I had to think about the second part of this quote a bit, but I do concur. Haters tend to hate people they feel intimated or threatened by, in competition with, or envious of. Usually, there is no real reason for their hatred, other than those people are different than them; whether in looks, personality, interests, or any other qualities.

In acknowledging that, if people are hating on someone who tries to be kind and respectful to all, somebody truly altruistic in their helping of others, it is fairly safe to conclude the haters lack some — or all — of those genuine qualities in themselves. Therefore, the good person is being hated by the "right" people in that they are hated simply because they are not hateful like the haters, nor would they ever want to be filled with hatred like them in exchange for their not being hated!

This not only reveals the haters for whom they really are, but also confirms the good person the "hatee" is. Thus, in this case, it is actually "good" to be hated by those hateful people, because the genuinely good person is indeed different than them!

However, it is important to note, a truly good person does not hate back. Just as haters do not need a valid reason to hate someone else, authentically kind people do not need a good reason to not dislike someone; they are just not hateful people!

So, not only is it "good to know who hates you," as Johnny Cash is quoted here, but it is also good to recognize who is always hating on one person or another. Just because they don't hate you — yet! — it doesn't mean they are not a hateful person. Pay attention to how these people treat all others — those noticeably different than them, people who cannot do anything for them, and especially, the ones they feel wronged by — and the true haters will always become clearly evident!

Unexpected and expectations/

One of the best surprises is when it rains unexpectedly. When the sky is plain and decent, with huge white clouds swaying swiftly, and the sun is shining in all it’s glory. To tell you the truth, I firmly believe that expectations kill the joy, and whether you believe it or not, I literally expect nothing from anyone or anything around me. You can argue that expecting is so human, it indeed is, but not expecting isn’t inhuman too. Listen to me, take some time right now and let go of all your expectations, for a minute, or for next five-ten minutes, or for an hour. For however long you can. And create the space. Amidst all the chaos and struggle you’ve probably forgotten the fact that in order to grow, you need some extra space at times. No matter how hard you press and push, you can’t confine your heart, mind, and soul. They need their own space to breathe, to relax, to learn, to unlearn, and to expand. The more expectations you shed, the lighter you feel and the easier it gets to live through the life. Whether you expect or not, some things and people are going to happen to you, in a particular way, just like whether it’s sunny or cloudy or humid, it’s going to rain if it’s going to rain. Now, it’s entirely upon you, if you derive joy from it, or pain.

I often wonder how Dhauladhars look on the other side. Is the sky same colour as candy floss during sunsets? Is the sky flooded with more stars on the other side? Are there many huts lying on the arms of the mountains... smoke coming out of their chimneys as they cook rajma chawal or they make really, really sweet, watery tea? Is there someone on the other side wondering how our Kangra valley looks? Questions. Perhaps I'll never find the answers to them in this lifetime. Or perhaps I will.
