“I DON’T WANT TO DIE ALONE”
is my personal favourite. Because in the end, this is exactly what ended up happening.
Here’s the link to my Very Serious Analysis of the Billentines, if anyone is interested.
And here’s the link to a separate analysis of “I Don’t Want To Die Alone”.

You know, when I see fictional characters who repress all their emotions, they're usually aloof and very blunt about keeping people at a distance, sometimes to an edgy degree—but what I don't see nearly enough are the emotionally repressed characters who are just…mellow.
Think about it. In real life, the person that's bottling up all their emotions is not the one that's brooding in the corner and snaps at you for trying to befriend them. More often than not, it's that friendly person in your circle who makes easy conversation with you, laughs with you, and listens and gives advice whenever you're upset. But you never see them upset, in fact they seem to have endless patience for you and everything around them—and so you call them their friend, you trust them. And only after months of telling them all your secrets do you realize…
…they've never actually told you anything about themselves.

in internet posts it is easy to cut them out of your life. they are hurting you! they aren't listening to you!
they held your hair back. they lent you lipstick. they held your hand at the train station and got you home safe. they rounded on your bully, got loud, said get fucked, spitting-mad in your defense.
they also cut the hair off again. told you that you should really think twice before wearing something like that. took you for granted. took your insecurities and threw them in your face again.
you know logically it should be easy. all the internet advice comments always read it will feel better. like an equation - if a person is rotten, you just remove them. you pull the tooth that's hurting.
but it was never a big flare-up moment. you don't live in a sitcom. they never tried to take your boyfriend or steal from your apartment. they showed up to birthdays and they wrote songs about you and bring you water without you asking. once you found out they carry an emergency inhaler for you, even though you haven't had an asthma attack in years - just in case.
where is the line? people fuck up. sometimes they fuck up badly. sometimes people have raw personalities, like a powerline, and being around them is dangerous. addicting. sometimes they can't help themselves, but you know they're trying. sometimes they are just rough-around-the-edges. sometimes they don't even realize how they sounded when they said that. sometimes it's just - you've both loved each other for so long now, the way this thing hurts goes back to the root.
and that's the fucked up part. you have pushed your fingers against the sweetheart of memory. things these days are electric, tense, harrowing. they didn't used to be. there were a lot of good days in there. sometimes you want to just close your eyes and say can this be over yet? do we still need to be fighting?
doing that would give up any chance you get of getting an apology, but you don't always know that you need an apology, you love them. once they flaked on your birthday party. once they told you to get over it, people are always dying. they also let you crash on their couch for a week after the breakup, handfeeding you when you were so sad you couldn't eat. they are also judgmental about everything, occasionally react to banal statements with an attitude that is weird and fiery. they also love you like a lighthouse sometimes, so strong they cut the storm like lightning.
but the problem is that you might be storm. you might be the thing that needs breaking. what if you are two forces who are desperately, horribly drawn to each other, shaped by the other person's passions, and both good for each other and bad in equal measure.
what if you're both just people, and you're no saint neither.
just cut them off! swallowing the saltwater, you catch yourself in the mirror. you've been shaking more than usual. there's an ache in you that is oblique, loud, impossible to soothe. is this what it looks like? when life is "easier"?
your mouth will always have a hole, is the thing, if you remove the tooth.

Garth Sherfield
So, part of a long list, this was the character that I almost played instead of Theoren Firemane in Curse of Strahd. To the extent that he actually has an exceedingly through and well thought out backstory. The faults come in the fact I really didn’t enjoy Blood Hunter personally, and that his backstory may be a SMIDGE too edgy.
Dhampir - Blood Hunter (Ghostslayer) - Haunted One - Garth
Monster Hunter/Vampire Slayer. Practiced Hemocraft to obtain power like those of the creatures he fought, used it to become a Dhampir later.
Personalty Trait
- Cautious
- Bad under Pressure
- Panics under pressure
- Quick to flee
- Monster to fight Monsters
Likes
- Tea
- Simple Foods
- A good plan
- Books and Information
Dislikes
- The Undead (Especially Ghouls, Ghasts, and Vampires.)
- Farm Pests
- Rushing in
- Being left behind
Habits
- Adjusts glasses with middle finger
- Fidgets with his hands
- Adjusting his pony-tail
- Sleeps fitfully
Misc -
Timeline
Meeting & Following Hunters - 9months
Sidekick - Another 11 months
Training - 2 year
Research & Experimention - 3 years.
Backstory:
Garth Sherfield was born in a small farming community by the name of Plainsbrook. A mundane village with a population totaling less than one hundred residents, and no significant landmarks. Which made it all the stranger the day Garth witnessed something lurking at the edge of woods, and all the less believed. Sure monsters existed, but not around here. That sort of thing just didn't happen in Plainsbrook. Garth knew what he saw though, and as young men are want to do, he went out to prove he was right. Unfortunately, he was. Caked in gore, reeking of corpses long due for a dirt nap, was a creature he later learned to call a Ghast.
Soiling himself in terror, and scrambling to flee, Garth quickly found his legs refused to obey as he hit the ground. Certain this was the end, the youth clamped his eyes shut, unwilling to witness what came next. He was very confused when the Ghast let out a horrible pained shriek. Daring to peek with one eye, he watched as three figures descended upon the monster. Acting in perfect harmony, the three swiftly dispatched the gruesome creature as though they'd done it a dozen times before. It was they who told him what it was, and what it's intentions had been. A lone Ghast attempting to rebuild it's pack using the denizens of Plainsbrook.
After making certain Garth was unharmed, the three individuals...the three heroes, left as swiftly as they had arrived. Awestruck by the trio, Garth made the impulsive decision to pack up what little he owned, and took off after them. For nine months he followed their escapades, tracking them based on every rumor, any word he heard of them. Eventually his persistence would pay off. Unable to lose him, they relented, allowing him to join in their travels if not in their work. A monster hunt was no place for a farmboy.
Their group had no name, but introduced themselves individually as Edgar, Donovan, and Lilith. Each for their own reasons, they had banded together to combat that which would prey on the common folk. Garth's part in this grim band was something of an assistant or squire. Eleven months of carrying their bags, tending to their equipment, and helping them prepare for the hunt; all while warning him of the dangers of their work. They weren't adventurers, and only by the strength of their planning and teamwork would they make it out of each hunt alive. The group warmed to their new addition with time, and ultimately decided to train Garth properly in their ways. Those two years were the best of his life, and lead up to the darkest. They'd caught rumors of a vampire on the wind, and deemed themselves ready to deal with such a problem for the sake of the people.
Even now Garth uncertain what went wrong, but the heroes he had idolized and devoted himself to were slaughtered, and once again he found his pants soiled as he attempted to flee in blind terror. This time his legs proved strong enough to carry him away. Having witnessed such an atrocity, he concluded no human, nor any other mortal race could hope to stand up to an abomination such as that. It is unclear how much time passed after that, Garth's mind was unreliable as he sank into the abyss of paranoia and fear; but one day, he had an epiphany. To take on a monster like that, you'd need a monster of your own. Travelling to anywhere he could access a library, and making a few backalley deals for the more taboo materials he required, Garth buried himself in research of monsters and the occult. That was how he discovered Hemocraft, blood magic, and with it his answer.
Though difficult, he succeeded in obtaining a single vial of vampire's blood. Combining the sanguine fluid with alchemy and hemocraft, Garth injected it into his own body, transforming himself into a Dhampir. A monster to fight monsters.
Yet there was still more to learn, and for what came next he would need teachers and comrades. He would not repeat the mistakes of the past.
Backstory (Draft):
Born in a small farming community named Plainsbrook , with a population of less than one hundred people. Life was quiet. Son of a Farmer. Village was bare bones in terms of infrastructure. There was a Blacksmith, a Tavern/Inn, and a General Store. No Doctor, just a Midwife who functioned as the local Healer. No mayor, just a village chief. Saw a monster in the forest, but when he told people in the village they brushed it off as him seeing things (not in the sense of "I saw sasquatch" and more "I saw a Lion". Not impossible, but unlikely.). As young men are want to do, he went out to prove he was right, and unfortunate was. Monster was a Ghast, and when he found it, it found him. He soiled himself and fell over trying to flee.
He was saved by the timely arrival of three individuals. Edgar, Donavan, and Lilith. Working together they dispatched the Ghast using every trick at their disposal. They weren't adventurers and were in fact barely stronger than Commoners, just better equipped. Each had their own reasons for it, but they battled against that which went bump in the night and preyed upon the common folk. Garth was star-struck and began following them. Literally. He wasn't part of the group, he just followed them around. Unable to shake him, they allowed him to travel with them where he was functionally a sidekick carrying things and helping them prepare but not actually fighting. Over time they warmed to his presence and began training him. Which was about when disaster struck. The group got a bit big for their britches and decided they could take on a Vampire. It massacred them almost literally. Garth once again soiled himself and ran, and was the only one to escape likely because he was too inconsequential to be bothered with.
He sort of snapped after that, deciding that no human or mortal race could stand up to power like that. To take on a monster like that, you'd need a monster of your own. Started researching the occult and making back alley deals, learning the basics of Hemocraft, and then after obtaining a vial  of vampire blood, infecting himself with it and using blood magic to transform himself into a Dhampir. A monster to fight monsters.
Likely had a breakdown for the first few months, jumping at shadows and believing the Vampire was still after him. Terrified and paranoid. One night during one of his panic attacks he had the thought of how "only a monster could kill a monster like that". Came as something of an epiphany. Began researching contagious species of monsters, searching for something you could be transformed into in a controlled state. Started with the simple research of what sorts of monsters like this existed, delved deeper, then moved on to trying to find ways to control the transformed state. Narrowed it down to Lycanthrope and Vampirism. Began research into the occult in order to find a way, eventually discovering Hemocraft and settling on vampirism.
Plainsbrook Notes
Small farming community with a population totally fewer than one hundred residents.
Very bare bones in terms of infrastructure.
Village has a Blacksmith, a Tavern/Inn, and a General Store. There is no Mayor or Doctor, only a Town Chief and a Midwife. A
place so insignificant not even bandits would bother with it.
Built on the plains, but close enough to a wooded area to acquire timber for building and firewood.
The Hunters Notes: They were't adventurers and were in fact barely stronger than Commoners, just better equipped. Likely used the Soldier Statblock. Succeeded on their hunts only through a combination of teamwork, traps, and ambushes.
Edgar: The leader of the group. Mid-thirities with a medium build and white hair. Serious demeanor, but not unkind. Valued honor, trust, and teamwork.
Donovan: Edgar's closest friend and most faithful comrade. Same age as Edgar, but slightly taller. Short cropped brown hair. Highly intelligent, with a warm and caring personality.
Lilith: Half-Elf, with long red hair. Age unknown, though she appeared younger than Edgar and Donovan. Riddled with scars, and it was unclear if she was more beautiful inspite of or because of them. A very striking woman. Never talked about her past, or really much at all. A fierce fighter, but often made a point to keep others safe above all.
Note: Didn't enjoy Blood Hunter during a test with another character. Convert to Artificer - Alchemist? Remove blood magic notes and make it a purely alchemical Dr Jekyl Mr Hyde scenario?
Appearance: 5′8, 152 lbs. Long brown hair tied in a ponytail with a white ribbon. Amber eyes. Round spectacles perched upon his nose. Boyish. Black gloves and boots. White shirt, dark brown pants. Navy blue inverness coat with white or gold trim. Wears a cravat. Various small potion bottles hanging from his belt. Uses a Crossbow primarily, but has a shortsword when needed.

Clark is taking Kon and Jon out for a classic, super-style bonding flight. Just a quick jaunt around the US and back!
They don’t get far. Somewhere in Illinois airpace, they run across another family.
The three (a hulking man, a snarky teenage boy, and a cackling youngest girl, each a grayscale blur in the blue, blue sky) throw neon-lit beams of energy at one another, quips and insults flying almost as fast as they do. It looks like training. It looks like fun!
The boy of them looks like a younger version of the man. Exactly like, even. Clark is familiar with clones.
The youngest, a girl, looks like both of them, but not quite. Perhaps she will, age sharpening her childish features, but it’s hard to say. More likely, she’s the man’s daughter.
Interested, Clark introduces himself to Dan. He seems to be a hero in his own right, even if Superman’s yet to see him in action. And it’s not often Clark sees a family so like his own!

DPXDC Prompt #85
When the Justice League hears about a new branch of government that believes ghosts are not sapient or sentient they of course decide that they want to evaluate this themselves so they go to Amity Park. Unfortunately ghosts can’t speak normally to humans it sounds like a fork in a garbage disposal to a human.
Danny’s friends weren’t around for the accident as they both had family emergencies at the time. No one knows and more troubling for him is the Justice league keeps stepping on his territory with different sets of hero’s trying to talk to him, he doesn’t because he knows they won’t be able to understand him. That changes when they start sending bats and a one Red Hood can understand him.
