I know no one asked but here’s the moves the nimbasa trio have in the au where they’re pokemon
Tumblr media
#submas#nimbasa trio#i have reasons for the moves they have!!! and you will hear me talk ab them#[just wrote all those tags] dudes I’m so sorry there’s just a wall of text in the tags now#ingo has snarl and hyper voice because. why wouldn’t he#Note: ingo was born as a unovan Zorua and that’s why he’s able to also learn move that they can and not just the hisuian moves#he has bitter malice bc signature move and for the reason why he’s a hisuian zorua :)#I’ll explain why he has earthquake when I get to why emmet has iron tail#Emmet has u-turn because A) his brother is weak to dark types and one of them needs a move strong against them#and B) think ab how funny it would be for emmet to suddenly use u-turn on ingo to purposefully get ingo to chase him#he has aerial ace because it was [key word. was] strong against the two weaknesses he had (bug and fighting)#dark pulse is a egg move!! i had to give him one yknow?#specifically dark pulse because one of the Pokémon he could’ve gotten it from is weavile :)#ok now to talk ab how and why they taught themselves moves#so imagine this. your emmet (a dark type) and you’ve created a moveset that covers your brothers and your own weaknesses#then one day a Pokémon type is discovered. fairy type. and it turns out it’s strong against dark types#'no matter' you think 'ill just change one of my moves to be one that’s strong against this new type'#then you realize. there are practically no moves you can learn that are strong against fairy type. sure there’s sludge bomb but well#i don’t think that would be pleasant to learn#you practically die inside until your brother comes up with the idea that you two can try and learn moves that normally Zorua can’t learn#so you both start trying to learn and use these new moves. iron tail for you and earthquake for your brother#and eventually you two are the first documented case of zorua learning iron tail and earthquake#went off on bit of a pov change tangent there. sorry#elesa im so sorry I had to melodramatically explain why ingo and emmet have moves they shouldn’t even have#anyways!!! she has volt switch because of the volt switch tactic she uses in game!!#don’t remember why I gave her discharge#Flame charge bc that’s a move her zebstrika in game has#i think i chose thunder bc it’s probably the strongest electric type move zebstrika can learn? idk man i don’t remember

Mytheon
The existence of this Pokémon is highly debatable in the scientific community, as it has only ever been seen twice. At least in modern times.
The first time was over 30 years ago by a photographer who was able to shoot a couple of pictures but everyone dismissed them as fake.
10 years ago however, a scientist went out of her way to prove the existence of this elusive and rare Pokémon, claiming the photos only sealed the previously mythical beings existence that was sometimes depicted in ancient murals.
Though she was never able to take any good pictures of it as this was an independent study with little funds, she claims that she discovered why the Pokémon was so elusive, calling it “the ultimate adaptational camouflage”.
In her claims, she stated that Mytheon seems to be able to change color according to its current environment, mimicking other forms of Eevees evolutions. In icy climates it would change to a dark blue coloration, with intense sunlight it would acquire a purple one, in places heavy in vegetation it would get a cream coloration with green elements, and so on.
Curiously though, they were only two forms that really stood out.
The first was that at night it would always turn a dark color, no matter where it was. She did made a note questioning if this would apply with time zones.
The second was actually the hardest to see and she claims to not be sure which element caused it (if not a combination of all of them) as it turned a pink color after using a fairy type move while being surrounded by other fairy Pokémon in a flower field.
Due to the ridiculousness of the claims, and most importantly lack of proof, the scientific community to this day refuses to publish such work.
Rumor has it that said scientist is now on a crusade to evolve an Eevee into this form, and states that maybe the reason why it is hardly seen, it’s due to the fact that it’s evolution conditions are very hard and too specific. Which is why it’s so rare for it to occur in nature.
To this day she still has not managed to achieve success.
They say she runs an adoption center, so that all those Evolved forms can find a decent home.

i like you so matcha
prompt: is it really a rivals to lovers if one likes the other?
pairing: osamu x reader
word count: 3.2k
general taglist: @graykageyama @tsumue @thesorebae @micasaessakusa @alouphen
Osamu wasn’t one to worry about competition; he had heard of the new café just a few stores down from his own restaurant and while he believed that the grand opening was nothing more than large interest, the hype reached his own workers. While he prides himself on providing a menu that is cost efficient and perfect for anyone; his workers seem to think that the new café combined low cost with high quality and aesthetics.
Again, Osamu wasn’t that interested in the new place until through the grapevine he heard they were selling onigiri. It wasn’t just any onigiri, apparently their take involved changing the color of the rice to add an artistic component. They were even going as far as shaping the onigiri into novelty orientations, one of his workers showcased the hello kitty onigiri.
Once more, Osamu tried to reason that it wasn’t interesting but he can’t help the sudden tick of his forehead when his brother walks right passed the windows of his restaurant only to emerge thirty minutes later with a to-go box of rainbow colored onigiri. It irked him even more when Atsumu had the audacity to sit at the counter and eat the onigiris with such happiness.
“Hey Samu, you think you could make some of these.” Osamu takes the box, promptly throwing it into the trash, eliciting a whine from Atsumu who declares that now he must wait another twenty minutes in line for more.
Osamu finds himself waiting in line with his brother. Atsumu cries that his stomach is hungry, but Osamu keeps his attention to how long the line is; it didn’t wrap around the block but it was fairly long enough to understand that the place was popular. The glow of the neon blue sign is just barely evident under the sun, but it must appear better under night conditions.
When he looks inside, he sees pristine white tables that balance with the brightly colored food; the chairs looked to have comfortable padding, some decorated with different colored pillows. There were mirrors displayed along the walls, one moon shaped, one stars, one of the sun, he takes it to understand that this was probably a theme of the café.
“We’re almost to the front!” Atsumu’s stomach growls the closer they get.
Osamu notices there’s decorative fairy lights along the window looking out into the street, the windowsill is large and he thinks it’s a good idea when he sees some customers using the space as a seating area. There’s a chalkboard used to display the menu behind the workers at the counter and even a small one at the cash register that lists the specials of the day.
Even as they find a seat, Osamu’s eyes are staring at the ceiling, how aesthetic, he thinks, there’s even a mirror above where they sat. He observes the customers, most are women but here and there are a few men; some with their lovers, some just here for the food. He can conclude that most of the hype of the place is from the aesthetic alone. It’s the perfect place for a photo opportunity with how decorated everything is.
“Order for Miya!”
Atsumu practically sprints to the counter and back. When Osamu tries to touch the food, Atsumu slaps his hand, “Wait! Let me take a picture!”
Osamu rolls his eyes; his brother has fallen into the trap that is the café. Atsumu takes five minutes to capture every angle that he can, even utilizing the ceiling mirror to get a picture of him and his brother with the food. Osamu takes note of Atsumu’s drink, clear plastic with a secure top; it allows you to see the different layers of the coffee but he knows once Atsumu mixes the drink it’ll turn green for the matcha flavor.
“Look!” Atsumu is shoving the cup in Osamu’s face, “There’s a design on the cup!” Atsumu’s eyes sparkle at the cute print of a Pokémon character, “That means I was one of the first hundred customers of the day.”
At this point, Osamu wants to applaud the aesthetic of the restaurant. Even taking the time to print on designs for customers as a novelty item to which they could boost about on social media, Osamu is impressed. But he reasons that the aesthetic of the place must hold to a high standard with the food.
So when he takes one of the onigiri’s, he’s ready to critique the flavor.
“Are you enjoying your meal?”
When Osamu looks up after taking a bite, the rice flows down the wrong pipe; he coughs loudly, wheezing at the way the salted salmon is a lump in his throat. Atsumu gives up his drink for his brother and Osamu nearly falls in love with the sweet taste of the matcha coffee.
“Are you alright?” Your hand is pressed on his shoulder, it moved from when you had been lightly hitting his back to help.
Osamu’s cough dies down as he watched you move to the counter; the workers listening intently to your words before nodding off.
“I’m sorry.” Osamu coughs for a last time as you approach the table.
Your hands are on your hips, a grin pressed neatly on your lips as you hold out a hand, “It’s my fault, I must have surprised you coming over all of a sudden. I’m the owner and you run Onigiri Miya don’t you?” Osamu feels sweat beat down the side of his face when he reaches out to grasp your hands, “I’m a big fan, you have great flavors, I can only hope that ours matches yours.”
Your attention turns to his twin, Atsumu gladly takes your attention, this gives Osamu time to collect himself. Osamu discoveries himself staring at you, you radiated a type of energy, one that he feels matches his own when it comes to running a business. The smile on your face makes him flush slightly and his palms remain sweaty from when he held your hand.
“It’s an honor to have a professional volleyball player eat at our establishment. We hope to see us on your social media page. One of my workers will bring over a free drink for the inconvenience.” Your head lowers in courtesy, waving to the men to continue their dining experience, “Oh and Mister Onigiri Miya, I’d love to bounce some ideas off you, I think we’d work great as partners for a few projects.”
Business partners was the last thing Osamu was going to agree to now that he had been up and close with the café; it’s been deemed a threat. It irked him when he saw you, a smile on your face as you wave to him early in the morning. His business seemed to always open and end with you, that’s how he discovered that even your hours of operation were the same as his.
It annoyed him when you visited, a large cup of matcha coffee in your hand as you offer it to him during the middle of lunch rush. It’s sweet when he drinks it, but he tries not to like it too much and he even tries to repress the craving for it on days when you don’t visit his shop. He even holds back the urge to visit the café when he really wants some matcha coffee.
He also finds it absolutely annoying how the parking spaces in front of his restaurant are always blocked by your customers. One time he stormed into your café, the workers were no stranger to his complaints. He’s automatically walking to your office in the back. When he can’t find you, he discovers you in a hidden kitchen meant for creative purposes.
“Oh, Miya Osamu. What can I do for you?” There’s rice on your cheek, your apron dirtied with minced ingredients, you wipe your hands on the ends of your apron to leave streaks of flour.
Osamu pushes aside the thought that he finds your hair pulled up cute, his hands on his waist as he puffs out his chest, “You need to do something about the parking situation! Your customers are parking in spots specifically meant for Onigiri Miya!”
You laugh, the back of your hand wiping against your cheek to remove the rice, “No problem! I’ll just put up signs on parking. Good?”
Osamu’s eyes twitch, the rice on your cheek is still stuck there and you can’t seem to find just where it is. He takes a step forward, fingers reaching out to graze the speck of rice and flick it off into another direction. You’re grinning.
“Thanks, did you want some coffee?” Your hand is already preparing a cup, pushing buttons on a machine as it spews out coffee, “I’m trying out some matcha and chocolate fusion drinks. I think I just figured out the perfect balance. Taste test?” You hold out the cup to him.
It’s sweet, just a perfect blend; absolutely beautiful. Osamu ends up taking the drink back to his restaurant, eyes staring at the cup with doodles of hearts and stars.
The next day, Osamu barges into your office stating that the music from your café is too loud, even though he’s three stores down, and none of his workers could hear anything but he’s insisted that the music is too distracting. He returns once more with a complimentary drink and a lighter mood than before.
“Isn’t he being too demanding?” One of your workers watches Osamu peer into the shop.
You’re smiling, already prepping the matcha drink, “I think it’s cute.”
“He’s acting like he’s part of the neighborhood watch committee.” Your worker stands straight up, “Good morning mister Miya, another complaint today?”
Osamu crosses his arms, lips in a thin line, “If you’re going to have your workers hand out flyers, I would prefer it if it wasn’t done in front of my restaurant.”
“Here’s your order.” The cup in your hand is stretched out to him.
“I didn’t.” Osamu frowns but his finger brush against yours when he reaches for the cup.
“I’ll be sure to tell them to stay closer to our café.” Despite him turning away, he flushes, “Have a great day Miya Osamu!” Your voice makes his ears go red.
The workers giggle when he turns around to thank you. It was painfully obvious that he had a crush on you. Excuses upon excuses as a way to step into your café and have brief moments with you. His eyes distracted by the cup, he runs into the door, giggles follow him as he leaves.
Osamu has himself crouched behind the counter, hands in his hair, hiding from the world. He remains a roadblock to his workers but they all move around him; he can’t possibly step back into your café after that embarrassing moment.
“It probably wasn’t that bad sir.” The worker has been waiting for five minutes trying to get one of the rice bags from behind Osamu.
Osamu digs his hands into his hair, “I basically face planted into the door.”
“Can I just get the rice please? We have orders.”
When Osamu stands to his feet, the wind gets knocked out of him. You wave from behind the counter and Osamu coughs as though he was busily trying to do something from under.
“Can I help you with something?”
You lean on your toes, it makes him want to delve just a little closer to you, “Yeah, there’s a car blocking one of our carry out spots, it has an Onigiri Miya sticker on the bumper so we thought maybe it was yours?”
Osamu facepalms, he had forgotten to move his car. He’s quick to round the counter, making his way to you until he feels it. He’s suddenly thrusted forward, unable to comprehend the wet floor sign before he’s tumbling right into you. Your hands steady his arms, Osamu’s find themselves clutching your waist. He was blushing madly, nose brushing against yours; customers and workers alike stare at the rather intimate hold.
“Are you alright?”
Osamu lets go but the step he takes back makes him slip, your arm stretches out to grasp him but it only sends you forward. Everyone gasps. Osamu lands on his ass, your body hovering over him and he’s blushing even harder now with your breath against his skin.
“I’m so sorry.” You pull away from him.
“It’s my fault.” Osamu dusts himself off, helping you to your feet, even holding your hand to try and balance the both of you, “Are you okay?”
Besides minor embarrassment, you grin to him, “Nothing I haven’t experienced before. Have you ever slipped and spilled rice in the middle of lunch rush, effectively getting grains of rice in everything?” Osamu laughs, “Truly one of my more embarrassing moments.”
He feels his heart suddenly more at ease, the restaurant goes back to their bustling conversations and the two of you walk out together. Osamu thinks to himself that the term rivals didn’t fit the category that he has you under in his head.
“It’s called love.” Atsumu draws the word out and Osamu smacks his arm, effectively making Atsumu bang his head against the table, “Dammit Samu! Stop doing that!”
“Stop being stupid then.”
Atsumu begins a snarky outcry of obscenities at his brother. He doesn’t mind it as he sees you walking past his restaurant. The sun makes it hard for you to notice him through the windows but he has a perfect view of you carrying boxes towards your café. Your steps halt as the top box begins to tilt, leaning the rest of the boxes in the same directions.
“I got you.” Osamu pushes the boxes, he takes the top half to balance in his hands, “I’ll help you.”
“Thanks.” You beam, “I see your brother is visiting.”
When Osamu looks at the window, Atsumu has his face pressed against the glass. His heavy breathing creating fog, “Samu!” It amuses you when Osamu knocks against the glass, sending Atsumu to jolt back, “Samu! Get me some onigiri from the café.”
“You’re literally in an Onigiri restaurant!” Osamu barks.
Your giggle pulls him along and as if cupid had struck him with fifty arrows, he follows you happily.
It came to no surprise for literally everyone when Osamu finally mustered up the courage to ask you out. In the after hours of work, he discovers you flipping chairs all by your lonesome; his hand knocks against the glass, it causes you to jump in surprise but it quickly fades when you see him motioning for the locked door.
“Where are all of your workers?” Osamu has begun to help turn the chairs onto the tables, something he’s accustomed to doing at his restaurant.
“I sent them home. I don’t like making them stay too late.”
Osamu thinks about how his workers are cleaning up at the moment; he follows you to the back, eyes trailing themselves over your body, he finds the way your hair is tied with ribbons to be cute and he wonders if you look just as cute with your hair down.
“Osamu?”
He blushes when you bring him back to reality, “Sorry, I was thinking about something.”
“I’m just finishing up some prep for tomorrow, you don’t have to stay.” Your hands dust flour onto the table, your fingers forming bagels for tomorrow’s breakfast rush.
Osamu stands next to you, he curiously takes a piece of dough, following your hand movements to form the bagel shape, “This is the first time I’ve formed bagels.”
“Really?” You glance at him, “You’re a natural, I’d definitely hire you as a chef.” Unexpectedly, Osamu feels your hand hold over his, “You just need to make sure it’s all uniform. I don’t think my customers would enjoy bagels that are one size five times bigger than another.”
It’s another two hours before you two finish forming and proofing the bagels for the next day. He waits outside the doors of your café, he can clearly see his workers are just about to leave too, they snicker seeing him waiting outside. He quickly motions for them to go away, when the door chimes, he pretends as though he was just about to scratch his head.
“Thanks for the help.” Your hair falls past your shoulders, Osamu wishes time would stop for a second so he could run his fingers through them. It’s just the two of you standing on the empty street, the lamps barely doing you justice, “I’ll see you tomorrow then.”
“Wait.” Osamu tugs on your sleeve, “Do you want to have dinner with me? Or will you? I mean, you don’t have to but if you want to.”
“Are you asking me out?”
Osamu gulps, “Are willing to go out with me?”
He may have reached another level of joy when you clasp onto his arm, “Duh! You’re a little slow but you got there eventually.”
Osamu lets you drag him along the sidewalk, opting for a place nearby rather than driving elsewhere. He can’t help the smile of content on his face watching you stuff your mouth with food. The meal is comfortable and nice; but the date is absolutely, blissfully, perfect. At the end of the night, he walks you to your car, hands dug deep into his pockets and he isn’t sure if he should shamelessly kiss you or do the awkward hug and goodbye.
“Are you thinking if you should kiss me or hug me?” You laugh when he looks at you bewildered.
“Are you reading my mind?”
You lean forward, a whisper on you, “It’s a secret superpower I have.” The both of you chuckle and before he can register it, you stand on your toes, pressing a quick kiss onto his cheek. You open the door to your car as he blushes profoundly, “Normally I don’t kiss on the first date, the one on the cheek is just a guilty pleasure, because you’re cute.”
Osamu knew from the beginning that the competition shouldn’t have been one to worry about. What he should have been worried about was how cute the owner was.
“Uh-oh, here comes leader of the neighborhood watch committee.” Your workers snicker seeing him strut into the café, “Good morning mister Miya.”
“I have a complaint.” Osamu crosses his arms, eyes staring at you. He leans forward, “I’d prefer it if you kept your hair down.” His fingers pull on the ribbon in your hair, your strands fall to your shoulders.
On your toes, your lips meet his from over the counter; there’s a hum in him, “We take complaints here very seriously.” You steal the ribbon from his fingers, “But you know I can’t be walking around with my hair down.”
“I have a solution.” He situates a hat that he’s made appear out of no where onto your head. He pushes strands of your hair behind your ears and fixes the hat’s strap to fit nicely onto your head, “Perfect.”
You roll your eyes to your boyfriend, “It says Onigiri Miya on the hat doesn’t it.”
Osamu happily claps his hands, “Product placement.”
“You’re so shameless!” You set the drink in front of him, “Cash or card?”
Osamu scoffs, “You’re making me pay now?”
“Yup.” You wink to him, “It’s what boyfriends do.”
“You boyfriend trapped me with free matcha coffee.” Osamu takes the drink, pressing a kiss on your lips quickly, “Put it on my tab.”
“You literally don’t have a tab, Samu!” He’s laughing as he runs away with the drink, turning around to blow you a kiss before running off to his restaurant to prepare for the lunch rush.

can I get some headcanons for how piers and leon would react to an s/o that’s in an all girl band like babymetal? s/o is lead singer w/ primarina as her partner, and the other members have hatterene and a clefable. thank you!! (my fave baby metal songs are akatsuki, da da dance, shanti shanti shanti and megitsune if that helps :D)
Requested by: this lovely anon!
Fandom: Pokémon SWSH
Notes: this is a really cute idea! I actually listen to Baby Metal, ‘megitsune’ and ‘distortion’ are my favorites. Hope you enjoy!
.

.
Piers + Leon with a metal lead singer s/o
Piers
Piers was in a metal music deep dive on YouTube when he discovered your band. The thumbnail confused him, why was some girl with her Primarina recommended with all these rocks songs? Intrigued but certain YouTube’s recommendations are screwing with him, he clicks play.
Piers is stunned when an aggressive guitar riff comes out of the speaker. The beat was pretty catchy, there were a ton of metal elements but the chorus felt kind of pop like? He couldn’t explain it but he called sends a text out to some of his band members asking if they’ve heard of your band.
Someone responds that your music slaps, and Piers is surprised to learn the other band members also have fairy Pokémon.
After a few weeks of listening to your music, Piers books tickets to one of your shows. Once your second encore ends, you spot Piers in the crowd. You’re pretty excited to see a fellow musician in the audience, and become determined to talk to him after the show.
Talking to him turns out to be remarkably easy. Piers looks a bit intimidating but he’s a pretty chill guy. After a long chat you decide to exchange numbers.
A few months later and congrats - you two are dating!
Piers attends as many of your shows as he can, and likewise you’re a regular at his concerts.
Some people may accuse your relationship of being a publicity stunt, but nothing could be further from the truth. Piers doesn’t want the press in his business. He’s proud to be your boyfriend and he wants your more adoring fans to know you’re taken (he can be a little petty but he’d never vocalize it), but he doesn’t want his personal life being tampered with by rumors or drama.
He wants to collaborate with you and your band members. Piers isn’t entirely sure how to offer, so he’ll mention it off-handedly. If you agree, he’ll let your band have free creative control over any potential music video. Piers just doesn’t want to have to catch a fairy type to blend in with your aesthetic.
Even if you don’t want to collaborate, Piers wants to talk about music with you! Like if you have a vocal coach, what’s your inspiration for songs, do you like this track that he’s working on.
Piers’ heart stops when he hears you sing his songs. Also, wow it’s not fair that you sound so much better than he does. He doesn’t want to be that guy that’s always asking you to sing for him, he’s sure you get that enough, but when he does catch you singing outside of a show - he’s got a small, soft smile on his face.
You may not catch him wearing it outside of concerts but he definitely buys some of your merch. He regularly sleeps in one of your concert tees.
Won’t look at the comments on any of your social media posts because your fanboys irk him.
Leon
Maybe Leon hears one of your songs on the radio one day, or while Piers’ is in the league, he hears your music blasting out of Piers’ headphones.
Piers is the type to have music at an ungodly volume and bystanders can hear exactly what he’s listening to, I stand by this.
Either way, Leon’s surprised that he likes it. Leon doesn’t really like heavy music, he’s fine with some rock but not normally metal. But whatever it is that your group is playing, that sounds pretty good.
So the Champion looks you up, and needless to say, is caught off guard by the group’s aesthetic. Leon is really impressed by your Primarina, he’s never seen one in real life and while it isn’t the main reason - one of the side reasons for going to your concert is to see the Alola native.
The concert takes place in Wyndon. Leon brings along Hop for company, and to subtly dissuade any league fans from coming up and trying to get an autograph from him. Leon’s excited to see your Primarina on stage, and your group mates’ respective Clefable and Hatterene.
But you, dressed in a surprisingly complimentary mix of frills and leather, steal the show. Leon’s eyes are on you the entire time. Plus, you sound even better in person.
After the show, Leon forces Hop to wait in line with him for an autograph.
“Champion Leon? I thought I saw you in the crowd.” Your speaking voice is also lovely and Leon’s heart does flips. “You put on a great show, mate.” He praises, eyes bright with excitement.
You talk for a few minutes before one of your band members elbows you. Right, there’s more autographs to sign. Thankfully, Leon asks for your number so you can continue the conversation later.
You two get to know each other for a few weeks. Soon, Leon wants to battle you. Afterwards you go get tea and he asks you to go out with him.
Going out for dates is a little hard, you’re both Galar superstars so people interrupt your outings for pictures and autographs. But Leon doesn’t seem to mind so you don’t let it get to you. However, this does cause you two to eat at higher end restaurants where there’s an unspoken etiquette not to bother the more popular customers.
Leon invites you to participate in a double battle exhibition match with him. Your Primarina and his Charizard make a great team. You and Leon’s ship name goes trending on twitter as a result.
Leon wears one of your band’s t shirts in an interview once. It was really endearing. He’s almost as proud to be your boyfriend as he is to be Galar’s champion.
You have to tell Leon to stop playing your music whenever he gets the aux cord.

March 13, 2021: Kwaidan: The Black Hair (1963)
Three hours of Japanese ghost stories. OK. How do I do?
Tumblr media
Time is always a complicated mistress for me, so I really have to plan this accordingly. OK, let’s see, what do I know about Kwaidan? Well, it’s a Japanese anthology film...ahhhhhhhh, there it is!
OK, solution discovered! This film is broken up into four disparate short stories, so we’ll be tackling each one one at a time. Four shorter posts, one full movie! Nice. Now, normally, I’d go through a bit of an introduction, but I don’t know much about this film, or the short movies contained within. So, instead, let’s talk Japanese mythology.
Tumblr media
Hate to admit it, but basically all of my knowledge of Japanese gods and folklore comes from anime. Which isn’t the worst source, necessarily...but it’s definitely not the actual source. I’ve seen Noragami Season One, I’ve watched a button of other slice-of-life and folklore-based anime, so I know a little bit. The GF is far more adept (she’s the one who got me into Noragami, amongst other things), and she’ll be watching this movie as well, when she can.
So, I’m a relative novice when it comes to these things. What makes this more interesting is the fact that these stories are based on somewhat more contemporary sources, which means that they may not borrow from Japanese mythology much at all, outside of shared themes and morality. Sound familiar?
Tumblr media
Yeah, that basically describes Ugetsu Monogatari, which I covered a few days ago (here, here, and here, in that order). While it’s based off of a book, it shares elements seen in a lot of old Japanese folklore and traditional beliefs. Don’t needlessly pursue material goods and fame over happiness, and don’t fuck ghosts. Yeah, that’s mostly what I learned from that one.
Kwaidan, which literally means “ghost stories” in Japanese, came out over a decade later, is in color, as was directed by Masaki Kobayashi, and this is the only movie of his that I’ve ever heard of, so that’s something. In any case, I’m excited for this one! As excited as I am...worried. Because I have absolutely no idea what I’m in for. LET THE THREE HOURS COMMENCE (broken up into four palatable pieces).
Tumblr media
The movie segments are as follows:
The Black Hair (黒髪, Kurokami)
The Woman of the Snow (雪女, Yukionna)
Hoichi the Earless (耳無し芳一の話, Miminashi Hōichi no Hanashi)
In A Cup of Tea (茶碗の中, Chawan no Naka)
We’ll start with The Black Hair, which is giving major “The Ring” vibes, just as a name. We’ll see if I’m right about that, I guess! SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
Recap (1/4)
We start it all off with the Criterion Collection logo, and then...ink.
Tumblr media
Ink of black, red, and blue, dropped into water set against a white background, is seen cascading down the screen over the opening credits. The titles of the four short films are also introduced, as the ink colors are mixed over a mostly silent background. And once the end, we begin with our first story.
Tumblr media
The Black Hair
There’s a dilapidated estate, and as we travel through it, all of the background noises are amplified, and a set of doors opens, seemingly with the breeze. We enter, and a narrator tells us that there was a samurai that lived in old Kyoto, brought to financial ruin by the workings of his former master. To regain financial and social status, he’s decided to leave his wife behind. We join them now.
Tumblr media
The samurai (Rentarō Mikuni) leaves his sobbing wife (Michiyo Aratama), refusing to rot away in the estate, no longer dilapidated, as we’ve clearly gone back in time. Despite the desperate pleading of his wife, the samurai leaves Kyoto, and cruelly shoves his wife aside, hitting her with his sheathed sword at one point. So, yeah, he’s a dick. And his quest for fortune will almost certainly be his ruination. Like I said, certain shared themes.
That’s made even clearer by the next scene, in which the samurai is now married to a wealthy woman (Misako Watanabe) that looks very much like the woman from Ugetsu, smudgebrows and...impressively long hair, GODDAMN!
Tumblr media
The wealthy family of said daughter welcomes the samurai into the family, and he provides for her while also enjoying a higher social status as a result of the marriage. One day, he brings her to his post, and we clearly see that she’s in love with material possessions, moreso than her husband. Which, yeah, sounds familiar.
Looks like the samurai’s also starting to realize this, and he reminisces about his first wife, presumably still Kyoto. Yeah, bud, ya fucked up, don’t be a dick. Also, I assume that it attracts ghosts, since...you know, this is a ghost story. But yeah, he realizes that he still loves his first wife, patient and loving, as opposed to his cold and selfish second wife.
Tumblr media
And so, in his heart and mind, the samurai returns to see his first wife. Meanwhile, in his new life, the samurai is constantly haunted by memories of his first wife. It interferes with his archery on horseback during an exhibition with a competitor. Dude’s fucked up.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, the spoiled second wife is bored, coldly dismissing her handmaidens while waiting for her new husband to attend to her. She happens upon him, asleep next to a scroll. She tries to kiss him, but the great idiot turns her away. She slaps him, upset at both his own selfish ways, and his still-lasting devotion to his wife.
He gives up on pleasing her after this, and decides to officially return to his first wife to make amends for not appreciating her in the first place. However, despite this, his duty as a samurai in the region still lasts a few years, and he’s unable to return to his first wife until that point. And when he does, the place is mostly still OK, but somewhat wrecked on the outside.
Tumblr media
Yet, despite this, there she is, working at her loom and spinning wheel. The two are happy to see each other, and the samurai notes that she hasn’t left his mind, and apologizes for being a dick. He also notes that she hasn’t aged a day. Yeah, she’s 100% a ghost, fuck.
Anyway, he begs his definitely ghost-wife for forgiveness, which she quickly and enthusiastically gives. She even says that she never felt worthy for being his wife, and that she doesn’t deserve love from someone of his station, as compared to her own. Goddamn, dude really is a dick for leaving this ACTUAL SAINT of a woman.
Tumblr media
He pledges to make amends, and that nothing will ever separate them again. He notes that her hair smells the same as it did before. The same glossy black hair, he notes. He compliments her looks as they kiss. And yeah, real talk, she is a GORGEOUS woman. Again, dude’s a dick. But whatever, at least they’re together again.
And the samurai’s love QUICKLY gives way to horniness, as they make their bed in the room that they “first made love in”, according to him. They pledge to be together for the present and the future, and the swordsman falls asleep with his wide watching over him.
The sun rises the next day, and the samurai wakes up next to his wife, and sees her long black hair...
Tumblr media
AAAAAAAAAND it’s a corpse. It’s her dead fuckin’ body, and the hair’s still attached. Saw that coming...although I didn’t think my whole “don’t fuck ghosts” joke would come true that quickly.
AND THEN THE HAIR FUCKING ATTACKS HIM AND DRAINS HIS LIFE FORCE, WHAT IN THE NINE FUCKS
Tumblr media
Yeah, no, he’s rapidly aging, and he tries to escape the estate, now obviously completely dilapidated. The now elderly samurai does get out of the estate...but he doesn’t escape.
Tumblr media
Damn. Story Number One concluded.
Weird-ass story, in a way, but very well-shot. as it finishes, the GF begins to elucidate on the actual cultural relationship of this story. Here she is now, actually.
Tumblr media
Iridescent. Anyway, she told me about onryō (怨霊), vengeful spirits that come to exact revenge on those who committed wrongs on them or in general, taking their spirits from their dying bodies. Apparently, husbands wronging their wives and getting fucked over by the spirits is a common occurrance. Neat.
It’s also possibly a reference to the yōkai called the futakuchi-onna (二口女). That one, I already knew about. She’s the two-faced woman with her second face hidden behind her long hair, draped and kept down. Said hair is also prehensile! And for the record, I only knew about her because of this:
Tumblr media
Yup, Mawile is a Steel/Fairy type Pokémon based on the futakuchi-onna. Neat, huh?
Anyway, that’s the end of the first story...shall we move on to the second one? Next up, Kwaidan: The Snow Woman! See you there!

Round 1: VS Venonat - Legends Part 1
Hello everyone, welcome to my story! This is the first book in a series I'm writing. Hopefully, it'll be finished the way I want it to be. I have a lot of plans to manipulate known facts and add my own into the fray as well.
Sorry, y'all! I didn't mean to fall off on writing this. I just got self-conscious. But I'm not going to let that get into the way anymore! I'm gonna stay on top of writing this!
Especially with this new writing style I've got! I've discovered I'm more a slice of life, mystery, fantasy type of writer. Not so much action like I originally tried. So, my chapters will be much shorter than before and will have great character interactions. I hope y'all like it this go around! And I promise I'll do better with staying on top of things!
I've made a lot of changes to the OG story, along with the previous version so I'll make sure to spot them out and let y'all know!
Oh, and quick disclaimer. I'm a black queer writer so all of my stories, including this one, will have characters who explore black and queer themes. I hope this creates a welcoming atmosphere for all to enjoy my stories and see a different perspective on pokemon and what it can be written about.
I also hope to inspire more black and queer writers to write stories on this site. The more the merrier!
Oh and I'm thinking about doing this thing where I tell y'all what music helped me write these chapters. It's a fun little thing. Mainly because music is a big part of my writing process so I thought it'd be fun to share with y'all!
So these three chapters were inspired by the Calling All Lovers album by Tamar Braxton! I love her voice and have been obsessed with her recently! She's always been one of my favs (#piscesgang) but this revisit to this gem just kept me going! I believe the song that helped a lot was Broken Record.
Special shoutout to Big Dummy by Cocoa Sarai (#piscesgang) as well! That song kept me motivated.
Without further ado, I hope you enjoy it!

Round 1: VS Venonat – Legends Part 1
Location: Twinleaf Town Date: August 4th, 3000 Time: 8:45am
Legends. Paxton grew up on the grand tales of mystery and wonder. Weaved together by ancient people who desired to understand the world around them. From declarations of the universe’s creation to the birth of emotions. A legend existed for them all. And all found themselves scribed and stored in libraries across Sinnoh.
Once upon a time, he believed them. Sat amongst groups of budding trainers in awe as their teacher’s spun these tales. Admired the scholars who backed up these claims with beautifully dressed lies. Part of him wished he believed them. At least then he’d preserve the innocence he lost long ago.
Not that it mattered. Innocence didn’t make for a great travel companion. Clouded the mind and led even the best astray. Paxton knew he’d never succumb to it. Not again.
“Ain’t that right, Kiri?” his little formantis thrilled beside him. She fell in step beside him, having just defeated a wild bidoof. Annoying rodents with the worst aromas.
Under the morning sun, he kept moving. Summers in Sinnoh never made much sense. Despite the heat, a chilling breeze whisked by. Eastern winds—had to be from the lake. Still, a bit musty for his taste. He heard Lake Verity was a beautiful place filled with energetic, young pokémon. Perhaps just another well-crafted lie.
It doesn’t matter. Paxton shrugged and continued his path. He had his mission and pitstops didn’t fit the bill. Soon enough, he found himself inside Twinleaf Town. A cute little place filled with morning folks. They took to the streets with their pokémon and tended to their business. A few merchant stands set up with fresh produce and supplies.
“Pretty nice, huh?” Kiri agreed. She breathed in the fresh air and thrilled. Much better for her than Jubilife City.
Now, if any of them could point him in the right direction—
“I tell ya it’s true!” A youngster wailed to a crowd. Quite the sight, Paxton mused. Clothes tattered and caked with mud. His youthful tan marred with bruises and an odd burn across his forearm.
“There’s a monster in the lake! It attacked me and my nidoran!”
A monster in Lake Verity? Paxton frowned. Too farfetched for his taste. Powerful pokémon never lingered along the lakefront, so the merchants told him. The most dangerous any trainer encountered was a choleric gyarados!
There’s no such thing as monsters, he scoffed but got closer regardless. The kid had a story, no doubt about it. Perhaps it would prove to be a challenge for him.
Though his hopes weren’t high. Twinleaf Town hadn’t produced capable trainers in years—
“The boy speaks truth, if only misguided,” an elderly man took the boy’s side with a pleasant smile. Eyes narrowed with wisdom as leaned against his cane. “There’s always been a force protecting the lakefront. A guardian blessed by Lady Mesprit herself. It serves to protect the grounds from intruders.”
A guardian, the Paxton scoffed. Yet another well-dressed lie. And the crowd around him shared his thoughts if their whispers were any indication.
Clearly, the elder saw no reason to stop. He only adjusted his kimono and tapped his cane against the lush grass. A soft, melodic sound, yet it quieted the confused herd of people. Paxton whistled. Plenty of teachers killed for that superpower, especially on the last day of classes.
“Now, now,” The elder smiled, gingerly tapping the pokéball on his cane. “We all knew of the legend.”
The ball snapped open and released a pokémon before them all. A beautiful feline with glowing, white fur. The perfect contrast to its pitch-black skin and talons. Armed with a scythe-like tail and a crescent horn jutting from its forehead.
It glared at him with glowing red eyes. Eyes filled with frosty wisdom. Lingered on him, demanding something the trainer wasn’t prepared to give.
He flinched. Not his proudest moment. And the pokémon agreed, turning up its nose with a snarl.
“You feel it, Absol?” The man said in a graveled whisper. At once, the strange pokémon—absol, he supposed—growled. The elder stroked its forehead and locked eyes with the trainer. “Young man, what is your name.”
Part of him wanted nothing more than to flip the old geezer off. He hated unwanted attention. Yet the questioning gaze of the crowd made him shrink. Of course, that geezer had them wrapped up in his every word.
“Paxton,” he spoke softly, gathering Kiri closer for comfort. She glared and waved her arms for battle. “Paxton Lotus of Floaroma Town. This is my partner pokémon, Kiri the formantis.”
The geezer nodded with a strange smile. But Paxton couldn’t place why it disturbed him. “You all remember the legend,” the geezer spoke again. “A child blessed with verity. Discovered by the peaceful flower.” Paxton groaned. Of course, this had something to do with him. No wonder he didn’t trust the geezer. “Tell me, young one. What has brought you to his town?”
Easy. He had his mission. Deliver the package and report back to Professor Kapok. Nothing special. He did plenty of these over the weeks.
“To see the lake guardian with my own eyes,” Paxton spoke, but words felt foreign. “And start my journey with an adventure.”
“An adventure,” The man smiled. A knowing smile Paxton saw plentifully on Father’s face. “An adventure intertwined with the red strings. Yes, you certainly shall receive one. Follow me, please youngling.”
Something tells me I shoulda stayed in Floaroma Town
Suddenly, staying in Floaroma Town felt like the right move. Paxton sighed and ran a hand over his green coils. Lake Verity didn’t live up to the legends. No bustling pokémon or fairy spirits. Not even a spontaneous battle—though, Paxton yearned for it well. Just silence and a thick fog.
A strange fog at that. It hung over the trees until they caved to its weighed. Many bent at odd angles. Not even Eterna Forest looked so eerie. And that forest had far too many ghost-type pokémon.
“I hate this place,” Paxton shivered. The air seemed so cold and heavy. And each brush of air prickled his skin with sharpened icicles.
Paxton paused by a familiar tree. Passed it a few times now, he knew. No other tree had these strange cravings on the bark. Some language, he wagered. However, the letters seemed bizarre and had cycloptic eyes. Strange, yet they seemed familiar. As if he saw them in a dream before.
{Paxton…} a voice whispered on the wind. Eyes darted around, but Paxton couldn’t find the source. Yet the voice continued, whispering his name in an offbeat rhythm. {Paxton…}
Great, I’m loosin’ it! Paxton groaned. Yet the voice paid him no heed. Each whisper grew louder than the last with a pronounced echo. Mashed together with words until it jumbled into an incoherent mess. Pain shot through his mind and Paxton stumbled. Braced against the tree, he stared into the fog and froze.
A figure breached the fog. Pale as ice with messy coils and lifeless eyes. Naked yet the wisping streamers of the fog covered anything unsavory. The figure stared at him with shinning sky-blue eyes…and smiled. Giggled even!
Is that a ghost? Paxton swallowed. Spirits weren’t his forte. In fact, they freaked him out!
{Paxton…} the ghost spoke even though its lips never moved. It urged him to follow as it stepped back into the fog. {Paxton…}
…Hell. Against his better judgement, he followed it. Chased it through the shifting fog as Kiri appeared beside him in a burst of light. He needed her. If this ghost was anything like the kind in Kanto, then he couldn’t take any chances! Would’ve been a perfect time to find that guardian though.
Guardian…what if that ghost was the guardian? A chill ran down his spine. He hoped not. Dealing with the undead was Casper’s thing, not his! He had enough of ghost-type pokémon ever since he got lost in that busted down chateau!
Still, he put those thoughts aside and chased its faded form. Even as his lungs screamed at him to take a break. Or his legs struggled to keep up. He fought through it. And Paxton found himself in a clearing. Empty, yet devoid of the heavy fog. Just a soft breeze and lake water as it crashed against the ground.
The ghost turned to him and grinned. Eyes filled with mirth as it lifted off the ground and floated to the lake. Paxton followed and gazed in awe. The ghost danced above, swinging its arms. It spiralled through the morning skies and giggled. Soft and melodious as the soft waves rolling through. And with a grin, the ghost dove into the lake.
Glittering light erupted across the water. Engulfed the lake in a rainbow splendor.
For a moment, Paxton stared into the light. Entranced as thoughts raced through his mind. Feelings, long since buried, unearthed and flooded him in a sparkling array of light—
(Veno-NAT!)
Paxton didn’t realize he moved until the heat hit him. As he rolled along the soft grass, charred dirt sprinkled his skin. Ignited by flashes of green light. Something attacked him, but he couldn’t see anything in the grass. Just rustling as the breeze blew through—
(NAT!)
This time, Paxton was ready. He lunged away as streaks of light smashed into the ground. Unharmed except for the light scarps. Good enough for Kiri as she dashed into the fight. She weaved through the streaks of light and unleashed a spiral of glowing leaves into the tall grass. Trimmed grass fluttered through the air, but the rustled told him all he needed to know.
“Kiri, widen your range and trim the grass! Razor Leaf!”
Sharpened leaves ripped through the air and trimmed the tall grass. Amongst the fallen leaves, he caught a glimpse of the assailant. Purple for sure…and were those clodhopper feet?
The creature paused in the epicenter of the field. And…it had to be the ugliest thing Paxton ever saw. Thick, disheveled purple fur mashed with giant, red eyes, stubby paws and insect features. Poor thing. Nobody’d ever train something so hideous.
This must be the monster. Paxton frowned. Ugly or not, he had to get rid of it.
“Kiri, time to water the garden.” Kiri rushed it and slashed it across the chest. The bug cried out, but Kiri didn’t stop there. She slashed and slashed, drawing pained buzzes from the creature. Now that Kiri had a target, that bug didn’t have a chance.
“That’s it! Fury Cutter!”
Once Fury Cutter went to work, it didn’t matter what pokémon Kiri faced. Each slash gained greater strength than the last. A nasty move for sure but made pokémon battles so much easier. The bug stumbled away from a slash and hopped away. But Kiri raced after it, unleashing more spiraling leaves to smash into its back.
“Finish it, Kiri! Leaf—”
Kiri cried out, low and mangled, as she fell forward! Her blades held her up, but she gasped for air.
But how?! Paxton watched in horror as the air rippled and smashed into Kiri, blowing her back. He lunged for her. Caught her just before she crashed. And when he pulled her close, he found streaks of purple staining her green skin. Poison?
(Nat?) The bug hopped over. Body tensed as green light oozed underneath its messy fur. Paxton dipped a hand to his belt. He had the perfect pokémon for this ugly—
“Motha,” A calm, melodious voice washed over the field. And the beast paused. “That’s enough.”
The beast hobbled over to the lake with a certain bounce that Paxton didn’t appreciate.
“That’s enough fighting, please,” the same voice spoke again. And a trainer climbed out of the crystal waters. Clad in only a pair of black briefs decorated with bugs and bubbles. His soaked black coils hung over his eyes, dripping water down his toned hazelnut body. When he finally moved the coiled curtains, Paxton caught sight of sky-blue eyes.
Just like that ghost.
But…his looked so shattered.
“Who are you?” He spoke again with that same melodious quality. Only this time, there was a noticeable edge. Like a cliff blocking a powerful wave. “What are you doing in Lake Verity?”
Paxton scowled. Figures the monster had a trainer. It fought too well to be wild. But it didn’t make sense. Why attack? Paxton shook his head.
“My name is Paxton—Paxton Lotus of Floaroma Town,” he gulped. His heart pounded against his chest. “I’m here to defeat the monster in Lake Verity. That you, ain’t it?”
The trainer paused. And his eyes darkened with flecks of gray.
“I am the guardian of Lake Verity,” he began slowly as a storm brewed behind his lips. “My name is Turquoise. Turquoise Yukule.”
How did y'all like that chapter? It took some time to perfect, but I loved the twist it took! I'm happy with it.
Paxton's a new character I made. Lowkey based him off of a mix of the Aroma Lady and Gardener Trainer Classes. I'm starting to really fuse Trainer Classes for some reason and I love it lol
And yay, Turquoise is back! He's literally my favorite little bubble of sunshine. I love his character and did some changes to him too. I'll let y'all know his Trainer Class next chapter!
But I'd to hear from y'all. Feel free to leave a review or PM me. I'd love to hear your feedback. And I'll do my best to respond to all reviews as well!

One night in December
Completely lost in thought, I sat at the bar and watched the singing Meowth on stage. Just like every night. Ever since I got kicked out of the college for future nurses. The talented cat-Pokémon who would work for peanuts held up a mirror of grief, depression and despair to me. « I feel sorry for you, Jessie » he would say while he struck up the next blues song. I cheered him and took a generous sip of the beer in front of me. I tried to let the malty taste of beer melt on my tongue and recover from the strains of the last days. What more could I do with my life? I was a loser, a good-for-nothing, not even capable of learning simplest medical terms and techniques. Why did I even waste another thought on a life in uniform, surrounded by illness and suffering? Because I wanted to help. Because I wanted to prove to the world out there that I had what it takes to make something of myself! I’m not just a hopeless orphan! I’m strong, beautiful and deserve a chance ! I want to decide freely about my life, but fate treated me unkindly. Used by the state, screwed over by men, my life story. I took another big sip, trying to avoid the prying eyes of a young man sitting next to me. He looked quite passable with his lavender locks and the piercing emerald green eyes, but my past has taught me to be careful. He could be just another guy who gives me a hard time, even though he looked anything but dangerous. In fact, he looked as devastated as me. A shy smile flitted across his face.
« Hey, do you need that bottle cap ? » he asked, pointing at the metal seal on the bar counter. I cocked an eyebrow. That was by far the lamest pick-up line I’ve every heard. Nevertheless, he had earned my attention with this question. «Help yourself » I replied. His eyes flashed for a brief moment as he examined the bottle cap. « A really rare find, thank you » he grinned and stowed his precious treasure in his pocket. How pathetic! How miserable must a person be when he feels joy for a bottle cap ? This man became more and more interesting. Judging by his looks, women hat to lie at his feet. Yet here he sits, all alone, collecting garbage. «My name is James» he introduced himself. «Jessie» we shook hands. «Tell me, Jessie. What brings you to this dump so close to Christmas? Isn’t your family waiting for you? A loving family that appreciates you and cares for you ? Who gives you freedom to develop and takes your dreams seriously ? » I felt a deep sadness. What he told me only existed in fairy tales, a picture-book family is nothing more than a fraud. « Family’s overrated, James » I said, « besides, I really like that singing Meowth» we both laughed.
« Can I get you something to drink ? » James pulled out his wallet. A lot of green bills jumped out at me. ‘Great, a stuck-up aristocrat. A rich, spoiled mama’s boy. That’s all I needed’ I was about to get up and crawl into another corner of the bar, but he held me back. «Please, don’t go! It’s not what it looks like. I’m not a pompous schmuck! To be honest, I’m on the run from this, » he pointed at his money. « Who would voluntarily run away from so much money?» I sat back on my seat waiting for his answer. «Money isn’t everything, Jessie. Not if it means losing your dignity and your will to make free choices » he explained. Then suddenly I realized this man got into trouble and he was seriously trying to escape from it. «Money is all well and good, but if it determines your whole life, you learn to hate it». I couldn’t figure it out at the time.
For a few minutes we sat next to each other in silence while listening to the cat’s singing.£«Would you like to dance?» James reached for my hand an lead me to the dance floor. It was very busy in the bar, people were busting on the floor, so for better or worse we were forced to move closer. I inhaled his tart sent. Although we had known each other for a little over an hour, a certainty unknown to me emanated from him. He was the type of man you would share everything with and who you could trust. He was decent, he laid his hands very carefully on my hips, fearing that he might break me otherwise. «What do you do during the day, Jessie?» he asked. It was incredibly loud on the dance floor, I almost had to shout my answer. « I actually wanted to be a nurse. Unfortunately, that dream has been shattered» disappointed, I let my head down. James lifted my chin and smiled at me. «Don’t give up, Princess ! You’re going to be great, I’m sure of it » his words were so motivating, making the corners of my mouth twitch. It’s been a long time since anyone gave me hope. It was good to hear that encouragment from James. « As a girl, I always wanted to be famous, a real star » I whispered. James looked at me with the kindest eyes. « There she is!»
«What about you?» I wanted to know. He made me twirl around. I wrapped my arms around his neck. « No one has ever asked me that before. I want to be free and my biggest wish is to become a Pokéringer» I could see James was having a hard time answering that question. Could I dare? What did I have to lose? I had no family, no home, no job, no boyfriend. «Then let us explore freedom together! With your pocket money we can travel, discover the world, feast and fall in love», romantic nostalgia was flaring up inside of me. It was time for a fresh start, and with James, I would take it. It seemed to me that he was not completely averse to the idea, but then the slap in the face. «It’s not that simple, Jessie. My life is predetermined. I can’t make decisions of my own free will. Tomorrow I’m a prisoner again. I’ll be married by force, so my parents can maintain their image. Everything’s settled, everything’s in order. I’m so sorry » he sighed. How could I be so naive and dream of a happy life? Each time, I was denied it! «Then this is where we parted ways again, James. After all, you were honest with me from the beginning. Farewell!» I didn’t turn around anymore, grabbed my coat, pushed the door open and ran out onto the snowy streets. Thickly wrapped, I strolled through the deserted alleys, only hearing the snow trickling softly. «It always comes down to just me», I rebuked myself for being so naive that I really would have given James a chance. I couldn’t get him out of my mind. So courteous and polite, if a little pathetic and shy. Would it had been funny ? Would we have supported each other? Would he have accompanied me on the road to fame ? Would I have cheered him on when he played for victory high up in the skies ? Questions upon questions, the answers to which I would never know.
« Jessie ! » I could hear a faint voice in the distance, probably fate laughing at me. « Jessie ! » There it was again. It approached with heavy steps. I turned around facing James. He was completely out of breath, his cheeks turning red from the cold. «Jessie» he grabbed my hands. «Forget the money, forget the weight on my shoulders. Ever since I spotted you in that bar today, I can’t think about anything else. You’re so different from the women I know. You’re determined, beautiful and talented. I know you’ve got big plans and I want to be with you every step of the way. We can both buy ourselves free from the shackles of society. We can do our own thing, become an unbeatable team. Jessie», he pulled me closer, so close I could feel his breath on my face. « Let’s be free. Let’s dream again, » he proposed. At first I was speechless and completely taken by surprise. We did not know if it would go wrong, but it was worth a try. I nodded. James smiled as if the heaviest burden had fallen off him. He cupped my face and pressed his lips on mine. I had never experienced such an intense kiss. It wasn’t just a kiss, it was a promise. Only the night was our witness. Our lips parted and we looked at each other in silence for a long time. «Yous two can count me in» a familiar voice broke the silence. Meowth tugged at my sleeve. We bent down to him and held each other in our arms. Our little free family.

Any headcanons for Yellow/Leaf, Lisia/May, and Winona/Kris?
Yellow/Leaf
They’ve known each other since childhood, as Yellow is an old friend of Red and Green’s, and Red is Leaf’s older brother. However, they were never super close as children due to their age difference and having their own friend groups.
They reconnect later on after Leaf joins Team Rocket and begins investigating Mewtwo around the same era as the Gen 2 games. Yellow was also investigating Mewtwo on her own, so the two met by chance and decided to work together. I’m still fleshing out how their investigation goes, but the endgame is that they become close friends and are able to befriend Mewtwo.
They end up pursuing their own paths - Yellow goes to school to study to become a Pokémon Doctor, while Leaf starts working for Green at the Viridian Gym. The whole time they’re supporting each other’s different goals though!
At some point, they start dating and eventually move in together once Yellow graduates and Leaf inherits the Gym from Green (who retired to become a Professor). The two buy a house in Viridian, near the forest, that Yellow also runs a small clinic out of.
Their daughter and only child, Amaryllis, was a surprise and was born before they got married, though they got engaged after discovering Yellow was pregnant. They were also surprised when she was born with bright red hair, though this made Leaf very happy as it’s her mother’s hair color.
In the fankid era, Leaf continues to be the Viridian Gym Leader, while Yellow runs the clinic, focusing on taking care of the various wild pokémon who might get injured. Amaryllis is a fairy-type trainer with aspirations of becoming a Gym Leader herself.
Lisia/May
My OTP so I have a lot for this ship.
They’re a couple who gets together quite quickly! They start dating sometime in the post game of ORAS, probably after the Delta Episode, which is when May decided to try out being a coordinator after spending so long being a trainer.
Their relationship is pretty similar to what plays out in the game, with Lisia taking on a mentor, and eventual rival role to May and encouraging her before and after each contest win, the two growing closer the entire time. I think romantic feelings develop for Lisia first, but she’s hesitant to confess since she’s afraid May doesn’t feel the same, but May for sure caught feelings pretty soon as well, not saying anything since she thought Lisia was totally out of her league.
Eventually, right before the two are ready to compete in the Hoenn Grand Festival that year (I used the anime set up for contests in this verse!), the two both decide it’s the time to confess before they face off against each other in the competition. As they both had the same idea, they ended up confessing at the same time! It all worked out though, since knowing that no matter what, they had each other now and a whole future as girlfriends to look forward to, it didn’t matter who won or lost in the Grand Festival. (As it turns out, neither won, the spot going to Robert as it did in the anime.)
Drew was also there, yes, and he and May had a rivalry like they did in the anime! In this case, it just never became romantic, though of course the two remain very close friends throughout the fankid era. He may or may not have given May some advice and the final push to work up the courage to confess to Lisia. (May returns the favor by bothering him about Harley later on.)
May continued to pursue coordinating for a while, though her endgame career is as a Frontier Brain, replacing Spenser. Her facility is called the Battle Stage and functions like an enhanced version of the battle portion of contests (which is where she got the name from), where challengers have to show off both their battling skills and how in sync they are with their pokémon’s moves and performance. Her title as a Frontier Brain is “Stage Princess May”.
Lisia ends up taking over the Sootopolis Gym from her uncle Wallace when he becomes Champion, having been inspired by May’s success as a trainer. She specializes in Dragon-types (her babies) and is a formidable opponent for any gym challenger, often the last gym leader challenged in the league due to Sootopolis’s location.
The couple live in Sootopolis with their three children, Levi, Evan, and Ione. Levi is a coordinator and aspiring contest idol, taking after Lisia, Evan is a trainer who wants to become the Petalburg Gym Leader one day like his uncle and grandfather, and Ione is an aspiring performer who starts her journey in Kalos. There was a bit of drama with Evan since Brendan and Wally had already mentioned they liked Eve as a girl’s name for their soon-to-be born child, and Evan is awfully close to Eve. May swears it was a coincidence but there was a bit of tension for a while (that luckily gets cleared up pretty quickly.)
Kris/Winona
Less to say here since they’re less developed.
It was actually kind of an arranged marriage. Kris’s family and Winona’s family are both old and traditional and have ties going way back. The elders from both families decided it was time to have the clans join in marriage, something they do fairly regularly every so often and began discussions with clan members.
Initially the pairing suggested was Clair and Winona, but Clair wanted nothing to do with marriage so the elders approached her younger sister, Kris with the idea instead. Kris actually saw it as an opportunity for adventure and figured that since it was kind of a political match, she could still find love elsewhere if she and Winona didn’t click. Hoenn seemed like a fun place to live, so she agreed.
As such, they’re a couple who fall in love after marriage rather than before. They have Amethyst fairly soon after marriage since it was sort of expected of them and both were fine with having a kid, but Gale is born a fair bit later as he was the child they had after falling in love. Amethyst is a coordinator and Gale is a trainer and Evan’s rival.
The romance happened fairly slowly, but after living together for a while, both Kris and Winona found themselves thinking about each other a lot. Kris loved watching Winona work at the gym and how attentive she was to her pokémon (and formed a good bond with all of Winona’s flying-types as well!). Winona loved seeing how dedicated Kris was to her work as a researcher, her care in studying and looking after pokémon and the environment. Before either realized it, they were in love and it just felt right.
Winona continues to run the Fortree Gym, but she’s considering one of her children as a successor, if that’s what they want. Kris, already working for Professor Elm in Johto before moving to Hoenn to get married, simply started working for Professor Birch instead, and later works closely with Brendan once he takes up his father’s lab coat. She focuses on studying pokémon ecology in and around the Fortree area and how pokémon fit into the natural ecosystem, though she will also do the occasional study on pokémon in other habitats in Hoenn as well.

𝔸𝕋𝕆𝕄𝔸'𝕊 𝔾𝕐𝕄 𝕃𝔼𝔸𝔻𝔼ℝ𝕊
Tumblr media
Warning: very rushed sketches and drawings made during a period of art block, references used.
Types: Flying – Normal – Electrik – Steel – Bug – Poison (or Dark) – Dark (or Poison) – Fairy
Reminder ► Buddy Call
Tumblr media
SPONSA – FLYING-TYPE GYM LEADER OF SUNNYSTONE CROSSROADS
Very first gym leader of Atoma, Sponsa inhabits the Sunnystone Crossroads, a very small town in the outskirts of Atoma. Known for the windmills and flower pastures, the Sunnystone Crossroads are the perfect place to start your journey as a Pokémon trainer.
Sponsa is known for being very encouraging towards young challengers and newbies, and her gym is a learning experience. There, you will have to learn the importance of items in battles … By not having access to any. To get any items, you will have to battle the different trainers in the gym, and only once defeated will they give the challenger an item and describe its function to them.
Sponsa can be seen near the lake, probably birdwatching or feeding the local ducks. Anyone can feel free to join her … But be careful, she can get quite intense.
Tumblr media
BEN – NORMAL-TYPE GYM LEADER OF THE UNDERBRASS
Ex-member of a gang, Ben turned over a new leaf once he met Kaede, and once he suffered a terrible loss from her. He turned around quite nicely, as this was the right push he needed to change things in the Underbrass. Located underground, this city was first a big criminal meet-up, where no one felt safe. While things are still somewhat weird there, it is definitely getting better and better.
Ben is the second gym leader of Atoma, and uses Normal-types. A good guy, he is rather the anxious and sensitive sort, while also still keeping his tough persona. Can be a bit of a pushover, especially towards people who intimidate him, namely Wyatt. Easily flustered. Some may say that he looks a bit scary, but really, he is a very thoughtful guy and loves his Pokémon to bits, especially his Skwovet. He is surrounded by cute Pokémon but don’t let your guard down: he is considered to be a very strong trainer, and a powerful gym leader, especially this early.
In his gym, you will be judged by how much you care about your Pokémon. You will have access to no items at all – the only ways you can heal your Pokémon will be via the baking system in the Pokémon Amie function on the menu. You will also need to have a certain level of friendship with your Pokémon, because if you don’t, he won’t even let you in.
Ben uses two buddy calls during his fight.
Tumblr media
RHYTHM – ELECTRIK-TYPE GYM LEADER OF BISMUBOPOLIS
Very young DJ and very popular with the Atoman youth and on the socials, Rithm is also the gym leader of the extremely large Bismubopolis, also called BPL for short, the booming heart of Atoma. Full of activities, there is nothing you cannot do there. Battle stations, contests, and Atoma’s main train station is located there. You cannot only travel to other small parts of the region, but also to both Galar, Kalos and Eteria thanks to the fast trains. Another known battle station are The Gardens, in the outskirts of town, an immense greenhouse where strong Pokémon and trainers alike go to train and have a good time.
You should look out for the Nightclub however, since it is not only Rhythm’s territory, but also her very own gym. There, you will have to go through different battle styles to reach the gym leader. Duo, trio, rotation – you name it, you do it. Rhythm uses three buddy calls.
To note that Rhythm is only a nickname that she uses a lot on the socials. She is also the mischievous sort, only the other gym leaders are aware of how much of a troublemaker she can be. Around her, even people like Strelitzia and Varia tend to watch their backs.
Tumblr media
GUSTOV – STEEL-TYPE GYM LEADER OF LARIMAR HARBOR
Of Galarian origins, Gustov settled down in Atoma for work years ago. Architect, physician and a huge math head, Gustov was the one creating new plans to update the old Larimarian dams protecting the city from the sea. After years of labor, he was to go back to Galar with his family but finally decided to stay and become a gym leader when Kaede proposed the offer.
He seems, however, to sometimes regret such a decision, as he knows that while he has to stay and protect Larimar and the dams, he feels guilty at the idea of having left his family and being so far away from them. Gustov seems pretty popular, as he is a rather funny guy. Makes a lot of dad jokes.
He masters in steel-types Pokémon, and his gym is located in the museum dedicated to researches and the dams themselves. He is the fourth gym leader and a specialist on terrains and attacks that modify the battlefield. He is the only Gigamax user in the gym circuit and will use four Buddy Calls.
Tumblr media
AGATH – BUG-TYPE GYM LEADER OF URANOVILLE
Of all the gym leaders, Agath was the only one that dared to change typing … And more than once. Fire, Rock, Ground, she just couldn’t decide, until she laid her eyes on the Bug-type.
Chef with a big renown in the region, Agath is not only hesitant when it comes to her battle style and specialization, but also to her own cooking. Having lost to Kalosian chef Siebold in that department, Agath searches to perfect her style, rather obsessed to become a greater cook than he is. Right now, her food revolves around … Bugs. She cooks bugs. Quite temperamental, she often explodes into fits of anger, and is prone to yell. A lot. Most of the other gym leaders fear her, especially Ben and Gustov.
Uranoville is located near the Red Lands, and so, it is rather isolated from the rest. The Red Lands are rather vast and wild, and holds the abandoned mines, in which a tragedy took place years ago. One can still visit them and can encounter rock, ground, and fire types.
When entering the Uranoville gym, your items will be taken away, and replaced by a small selection of them – these are all foods. To pass in the gym, you will have to have a cook-off with the trainers before a battle. The quality of your food will have an impact on the battle. Agath uses four buddy calls.
Tumblr media
VARIA – POISON-TYPE GYM LEADER OF NEONBURG CITY
Arrogant and headstrong, Varia is usually the sixth gym leader trainers will pass through. He is known for being rather ruthless and violent, as well as for intimidating both trainers of his gym than challengers.
He and Strelitzia have an ongoing rivalry, but funnily enough, both their mothers are extremely good friends. That does not stop them, however, to cause trouble to each other while their mothers are far away. Strelitzia and Varia have known each other since kindergarten.
He took extra precautions for his gym to be overrun by a potent miasma. Once in, Pokémons will be poisoned, and nothing can make it stop once you’re inside. Another good thing to note is that you cannot leave the battlegrounds, unless you wish to give up, but there are some trainers that are also medics in the gym. Many Pokémon of the gym are now immune to poison or use the malus at their advantage. He uses five buddy calls if you battle him before Strelitzia, six if after her.
Neonburg City, while being rather developed, is located near the swamp area in the Sonian Woods, and thus the access is a little complicated for inexperienced trainers. Smog often covers the city, and on the outskirts of town is the dumping grounds. The gym is located in that area.
Generally the sixth gym leader challengers go through, he can also be the seventh if you decided to challenge Strelitzia first.
Tumblr media
STRELITZIA – DARK-TYPE GYM LEADER OF SARDONYX VILLE
Of both Alolan and Atoman heritage, Strelitzia represents well Sardonyx, the region’s multicultural meeting point. Pretty big – but not as much as Bismubopolis –, Sardonyx is between ‘pretty alive’ and ‘pretty calm’ when it comes to activity. The small harbor is known to be a part of a rather large market, in which you can find everything you need, from every possible region. To access Sardonyx, a trainer must first go past a part of the Sonian Woods, a very large Atoman forest. Unlike the swamp area, this side is eerier, and you can easily find dark, bug, and fairy types.
Contrasting with the bright colors of the town, Sardonyx is also full of small, dark alleys, all connected together. One might easily get lost in that urban maze, but not to worry, as Strelitzia’s personal gang makes sure that the city stays in order.
Strelitzia uses a total of six buddy calls (if you battle her after Varia, five if you battle her before him), along with a team-powered Z move for her Incineroar. Rules of the gym are restrictions based on types that are stronger against dark-types. Which type precisely ? It all depends on the day, on her mood, and … On your own team.
Strelitzia had been considered as a candidate for the Elite Four, but with the fear that the absence of rivalry would make Varia grow bored of his gym duties, it was decided against it.
More frequently the seventh gym leader challengers go through, she can also be the sixth if you decided to challenge Varia first.
Tumblr media
WYATT – FAIRY-TYPE GYM LEADER OF SMOKYQUARTZ SHORES
Located in between a river and the sea, the Smokyquartz Shores are considered to be a fantastic location for summer vacations. Developed and quite peaceful but a tad small, it is the most active during the summer for this exact reason. It’s also a city liked by the higher class.
There resides the Fairy-type gym leader, from the Almia region, and president of Altru Inc. He first came to Atoma to clear the air after the crimes he committed and to reflect on his actions, but was introduced to Pokémon battles by Kaede. Discovering he had talents only fitting a trainer, and realizing that he actually liked very much being a trainer, he accepted the offer when he was proposed to become a gym leader, finding time on his schedule so it wouldn’t pose a problem when it came to his business in Almia.
A very busy man, Wyatt only accepts worthy challengers in his gym, which also counts as an office building. You will have to wait for his arrival by battling the diverse employees on the floors, until you reach his office. Wyatt uses five different buddy calls, along with mega evolution. He is the very last gym leader before the league, so you will have to come in prepared.
He wanted to become the dark-type gym leader first, but Strelitzia got the spot before he did, and so opted for the fairy typing. Wyatt isn’t very liked by the youngest gym leaders, and each year he will find his gym tagged and vandalized by them.

It all depends on the day, on her mood, and ... On your own team.

WYATT -- Fairy-type gym leader of Smokyquartz Shores
Wyatt uses four different buddy calls, along with a mega evolution.

Pokemon AU: Team NY Part Two (Elite Four)
—A collaboration with @meyerlansky —Though this is set in the Unova region, we said “fuck it” with regards to which Pokemon are actually found in what region—because that’s limiting and less fun —The Elite Four edits below were made in (*checks metadata*) jesus, 2016. Pokemon that are more recently released were not largely accounted for in our plan (though some Galarian pokemon were so good, we had to revise) —Part One (Trainers) can be viewed here —Edits are done roughly to scale with character and pokemon heights. There aren’t many good trainer makers out there, so I used (slightly edited) in-game character art for them
The road to becoming the Elite Four for the Unova region was not an easy one. While they grew as trainers and as friends, Charlie, Meyer, Benny, and Frank went head-to-head with some of the region’s toughest trainers and gym leaders—plus two warring Team Rocket factions competing for control of Unova’s robust underbelly. Along the way, they grew stronger teams, developed their type preferences, and fought their way to become the latest and strongest installment Unova’s Elite Four.
BENNY SIEGEL, ELITE FOUR (Fighting/Fairy):
Tumblr media
Pokemon Team (left to right) with Pokedex entries:
Galarian Rapidash (psychic/fairy): “Little can stand up to its psycho cut. Unleashed from this Pokémon's horn, the move will punch a hole right through a thick metal sheet.”
Primeape (fighting): “It will beat up anyone who makes it mad, even if it has to chase them until the end of the world.”
Florges (fairy): “It controls the flowers it grows. The petal blizzards that Florges triggers are overwhelming in their beauty and power.”
Pangoro (fighting/dark): “It charges ahead and bashes its opponents like a berserker, uncaring about any hits it might take. Its arms are mighty enough to snap a telephone pole.”
Gallade (psychic/fighting): “Because it can sense what its foe is thinking, its attacks burst out first, fast, and fierce.”
Mienshao (fighting): “When Mienshao lets out a bizarre wail, you're in danger. A flurry of kicks and chops too fast to see is about to be unleashed!”
Benny’s team is the perfect mixture of flash and brute force—much like his battle strategy. As the first member of the Elite Four that trainers face, Benny’s battles are filled with heavy-hitting moves.
While most of his team is comprised of fighting Pokemon that match his own temperament and battle strategy, Benny surprises challengers with the addition of two fairy-types on his team. Early on in their days as the Elite Four, Charlie gave Benny a hard time about choosing fairy-type Pokemon. Benny’s Florges delivered one attack that knocked out all of Charlie’s dragons in one hit; he has since stopped commenting on Benny’s team choices. No one else in the League would say a word against him either—Benny is known to be short-tempered and eager for a battle.
In addition to his love of battling, Benny enjoys collecting shiny Pokemon, ever since he caught his shiny Floette at the start of his journey. Now evolved into his small-but-powerful Florges, it stands alongside a shiny Gallade on his team. He also traveled to the distant Galar region to catch a Rapidash—purely because it “looks awesome,” to quote the Elite Four member.
A battle against Benny is usually a short one. His Pokemon hit hard and fast, and they’ll do anything to win.
CHARLIE LUCIANO, ELITE FOUR (Fire/Dragon):
Tumblr media
Pokemon Team (left to right) with Pokedex entries:
Pyroar (fire/normal): “The males are usually lazy, but when attacked by a strong foe, a male will protect its friends with no regard for its own safety.”
Goodra (dragon): “It's very friendly toward people. If you grow close to it, Goodra will hug you with its sticky, slime-covered body. Don't get mad.”
Charizard (fire/dragon): “It is said that Charizard's fire burns hotter if it has experienced harsh battles.”
Tyrantrum (rock/dragon): “Nothing could stop this Pokémon 100 million years ago, so it behaved like a king.”
Arcanine (fire): “A Pokémon that has long been admired for its beauty. It runs agilely as if on wings.”
Houndoom (dark/fire): “Identifiable by its eerie howls, people a long time ago thought it was the grim reaper and feared it.”
Ever since Charlie’s first Pokemon, Charmander, his early affinity for fire-type Pokemon continued throughout his career as a trainer. However, the weakness to commonly found water-type Pokemon left him vulnerable. After discovering Mega Evolution that would change his beloved Charizard into fire/dragon, the new type speciality seemed obvious to strengthen his team.
His team is a mix of both fire and dragon types. This approach was seen as unconventional at first, as members of the Elite Four have historically only specialized in one type of Pokemon. When pressed for comment on this break from tradition, Charlie shrugged. “What’s that got to do with me? My team’s stronger this way—ain’t that the whole point?”
Along with his starter Pokemon (now evolved into a Charizard), his dragon-type Goomy and his fire/dark-type Houndour are still part of his team in their final evolution stages, having grown in strength over the years. The Arcanine was a natural addition among Charlie’s fire-type and dog-like Pokemon collection. Information is scarce as to how he acquired the ancient powerhouse Tyrantrum. Rumor has it that Charlie won an odd rock in a battle and thought he’d been ripped off; it was Meyer who recognized the ancient fossil for what it was.
The fire-type Pyroar was originally trained by Meyer as a Litleo, then traded for Charlie’s Deino. This was Charlie’s idea, as he and Meyer developed their respective interest in fire and dark Pokemon. Both Pokemon are loyal and devoted to their new trainers—as much as the two trainers are to each other.
Charlie is a fierce competitor who battles with a hard offense, though his ability to strategize has been honed over the years. His team of Pokemon form a strong and loyal pack, protective of their trainer and just as determined to win and prove their strength.
FRANK COSTELLO, ELITE FOUR (Normal):
Tumblr media
Pokemon Team (left to right) with Pokedex entries:
Staraptor (normal/flying): “It never stops attacking even if it is injured. It fusses over the shape of its comb.”
Miltank (normal): “Most people raise it for its milk, but it's quite tough and strong, so it's also well suited for battle.”
Ursaring (normal): “With its ability to distinguish any smell, it unfailingly finds all food buried deep underground.”
Bewear (normal/fighting): “This Pokémon has the habit of hugging its companions. Many Trainers have left this world after their spines were squashed by its hug.”
Kangaskhan (normal): “To protect its young, it will never give up during battle, no matter how badly wounded it is.”
Kecleon (normal): “A Pokémon that has the ability to alter its body colors to match its surroundings. A Kecleon reverts to its original colors if it is startled.”
Frank has the distinction of being the first-ever Elite Four trainer to specialize in normal-type Pokemon. He considers them sturdy and strong, with minimal influence from type-based strengths and weaknesses. This allows Frank to focus solely on his battle strategy, using a range of careful defensive and stat moves alongside some powerhouse offensive attacks from his Pokemon team.
He hasn’t changed his style much since his trainer days. But don’t let Frank’s understated presence deceive you—his Pokemon pack a punch. His Ursaring—once the tiny Teddiursa that accompanied him as a young trainer—is a hard fighter. Despite its cute appearance, Bewear is a Pokemon known for its incredible strength; it’s also known as a protective Pokemon that will go into a rage to protect those it cares about.
Frank’s Kecleon has also grown alongside him over the years. While it isn’t quite the powerhouse in terms of pure strength as the rest of his team, it does have the unique ability to blend into its surroundings and to change its type depending on the opponent. Over the years, Frank has mastered using Kecleon’s color change ability to undermine his opponent’s strategy and turn the tables on a battle.
Frank is the third member of the Elite Four that trainers must face. He prefers being later in the lineup—being after Benny and Charlie means that he sees less action. While he has a sharp mind for battles and strong Pokemon at his side, Frank enjoys using the downtime outside of the League to tend to his berry patch.
MEYER LANSKY, ELITE FOUR (Dark):
Tumblr media
Pokemon Team (left to right) with Pokedex entries:
Golurk (ground/ghost): “It is said that Golurk were ordered to protect people and Pokémon by the ancient people who made them.”
Bisharp (dark/steel): “Bisharp doesn't even change its expression when it deals the finishing blow to an opponent.”
Sableye (dark/ghost): “Sableye lead quiet lives deep inside caverns. They are feared, however, because these Pokémon are thought to steal the spirits of people when their eyes burn with a sinister glow in the darkness.”
Hydreigon (dark/dragon): “The three heads take turns sinking their teeth into the opponent. Their attacks won't slow until their target goes down.”
Weavile (dark/ice): “They live in cold regions, forming groups of four or five that hunt prey with impressive coordination.”
Scrafty (dark/fighting): “While mostly known for having the temperament of an aggressive ruffian, this Pokémon takes very good care of its family, friends, and territory.”
The strongest and final member of Unova’s Elite Four, Meyer is a cunning trainer with a natural knack for strategy and a smile more chilling than the snowy town where he first started his Pokemon journey. His dark-type team is a force to be reckoned with, carefully chosen for strategy as well as strength. Each of his five dark-type Pokemon boast different secondary types, affording a wide range of powerful moves and posing an additional challenge to anyone who would battle him.
The dark/ice Weavile from his original team embodies his specialty as a trainer, with its sharp claws and intellect. The little Scraggy from his trainer days has also remained a vital member of his team, now evolved into the no-less-tiny but far more powerful Scrafty. His team is rounded out by Sableye, a dangerous dark/ghost Pokemon with few weaknesses, and a disciplined and forceful Bisharp. The Hydreigon is evolved from the Deino he received from Charlie, in exchange for Meyer’s Litleo early in their journeys.
The only exception to his dark-type team is the ground/ghost Golurk; the bond between trainer and Pokemon has only grown stronger since that day many years ago when Meyer first found the little Golett in the snow. The ancient Pokemon is said to be a protector, and its strength coupled with Meyer’s natural knack for strategy has won them many battles.
Meyer is the final member of the Elite Four that trainers must defeat before going on to challenge the Champion. To date, only one trainer has ever managed to progress past Meyer. He has gone on record with the League stating that it will never happen again; so far, he has kept his word.
-----
The Unova Elite Four is comprised of four trainers who have grown together to become the strongest in the region. They were installed as the Elite Four under former League Champion Arnold Rothstein, whose psychic-based team never saw any action with these four guarding the path to the Champion.
Only one trainer has ever managed to defeat them all—a woman from the Kanto region, with a strong, diversified team. The unexpected victor Margaret Rohan has been the presiding League Champion for several years since.

The night outside Honeycomb’s room is cold, which is why he’s turned up the heating and is now cuddled up next to Den under a blanket. The lights are off, but he’s turned on the fairy lights that are strung across the room. Den’s turned a few of the lights pink, and Honeycomb can’t stop looking at the way the pastel lights reflect off his face. He’s nestled in Honeycomb’s lap, playing Pokémon on his switch. Honeycomb wants to be here forever, which is why his mind starts wandering to when Den has to leave, and where he’ll be going.
“Hey,” he says gently. Den turns, smiling up at him. “I know you don’t have to go yet, but when you do… stay safe out there.”
Den looks at him, still smiling, and raises an eyebrow. He’s cute when he’s confused, Honeycomb thinks. He’s cute when he’s most things.
“I worry about you,” Honeycomb says, smiling back to make sure he isn’t coming off as too worried. Honeycomb didn’t expect to discover magic and aliens existed, and he definitely didn’t expect to discover it by becoming the boyfriend of a magical spacefaring adventurer. It’s weird, having cute mundane dates like going on picnics, and knowing that the next day your boyfriend will be exploring an unknown magical planet. “It’s hard knowing that my boyfriend going home means going to a magical spaceship and preparing for a dangerous adventure the next day.”
Den catches on. “I’ll be fine,” he says. “I can hold my own.” He definitely doesn’t look the type to be able to defend himself, with a total height of 5’2” and a general softness about him. Honeycomb knows better. “Besides, I have the rest of the team with me. Aria will be there.”
Honeycomb groans and smiles. “It’s Aria I’m worried about. She may be able to defend you all, but she’s also not going to shy away from danger.”
Den considers this. He has a point. “And London, and Violet-”
“It’s not exactly comforting to know my boyfriend’s adventuring squad needs someone with cosmic life powers to keep them alive.” Honeycomb’s being light, but he’s reminded that Violet has literally had to use her powers to bring Aria back from the dead (or almost-dead). “Listen, I know you guys are capable. But I’m your normal, mundane boyfriend. I have to worry about you. You’re out there exploring the unknown and fighting all the things that try to fight you. I want you to be safe.”
Honeycomb’s searching for more words to express his concern when Den leans in and kisses him. Honeycomb’s eyes widen, then he closes them and eases into his boyfriend’s embrace, as Den pushes himself up and wraps his arms around Honeycomb. His mouth on Honeycomb’s is maybe the best sensation in the world. Honeycomb can tell Den just put on chapstick a few minutes ago. The strawberry one that he often smells like. Honeycomb wants that smell forever.
Eventually, Den slowly leans back. He’s sitting on Honeycomb, having pushed himself up all the way, facing him. He’s turned all of the fairy lights a bright pink. Honeycomb feels himself blush as he looks up at his boyfriend. He could count all of the freckles on his face. Honeycomb’s heart is racing as fast as the first time he saw Den, that one day at the beach. He doesn’t have to try and look casual this time, though. He lets himself marvel at Den’s beauty.
Den’s smooth smile transforms into one of his wide smiles as he sees the expression of Honeycomb’s face. He looks down and blushes, then sits up and resumes his confident expression. He snaps his fingers, and the lights go from pink to blue to pastel yellow, and soon Den is aglow under a shifting rainbow of light. “See? I know you worry, but… I was made for this.” The lights go back to pink. “And I can facetime you tomorrow. So you can see I’m okay.”
Honeycomb smiles. London’s figured out how to enchant Den’s phone so it works on planets with no satellites, and it results in the occasional static and weird glitches, but it’s not too bad, and Honeycomb gets to talk to Den.
“And maybe soon, I could take you with me. A date on another planet,” Den says, getting excited.
“I’d like that a lot,” Honeycomb says, his voice soft.
“And... I don’t have to go anywhere yet,” Den says. He reaches for Honeycomb just as Honeycomb wraps an arm around him, pulling him to his chest. Den looks up, and kisses Honeycomb lightly, before settling into him, leaning his head against his shoulder. Honeycomb wraps one arm around him and uses the other to play with his hair. He could stay like this forever.

GMW Fanfic: Story Time with Farkle and Smackle Returns!
Tumblr media
-Once upon a time, two young after school leaders attempted to tell a story to a group of children. The following is a written transcript of their attempt.
Hello everyone. For those that haven't gotten to know us yet, my name is Mr. Farkle. And apologies that we're breaking the norm of your regularly scheduled events you experience here.
But since Miss Maya is out today helping take care of her wife who is recovering in the hospital, we thought we'd do something different, yet super fun today. By the way, I'm Miss Smackle.
Yeah. So with fewer adult leaders at the program today, we thought we'd just keep you all entertained this afternoon with some good old fashioned story time.
With minor changes added into our classic stories as a means to appeal to our target demographic groups.
Smackle, we don't have demographic groups.
That's what the Ninja Wombats of Antarctica want you to think.
I… I don't even know how to react to that.
You can react by letting me make alterations to the story wherever I see fit.
Whatever. So today we're going to share with you all the story of the Three Little Pigs. Now, long ago there lived three little pigs who one day told their mother that they were ready to live on their own.
Hold on. How can the pigs talk?
It's a fairy tale Smackle. They just do.
But you said this story took place long ago. That infers this story took place in the past of our world. Can we say this story took place in an alternate universe?
Why would I want to bother with a detail like that?
Because if you don't, then many impressionable children here will start to believe that pigs have the ability to talk, and when they go visit a farm one day, they'll be very displeased to learn pigs don't talk, which will inspire those children to turn into mad scientists that start to do genetic engineering on pigs in an attempt to actually make them talk so that they can make their childhood dreams come true, but of course tinkering with the genetic code of pigs would only eventually inspire those aforementioned individuals to want to commit all sorts of other crimes against nature, which would eventually lead to a domino effect that would wipe away everything that exists on our planet including all traces of our culture except for the Statue of Liberty and a bunch of monkeys!
Okay. So this story takes place in an alternate universe where animals can talk.
Thank you for clarifying that.
Anyway… these three pigs wanted to live on their own. So they decided to all build their own houses. The first pig built his house out of straw. The second pig built his house out of sticks. The third pig built his house out of bricks.
Yes. And there's a reason why those first two pigs built their houses out of materials that aren't very good to build with.
Well, yeah Smackle. That's actually an important part of the story. I'm glad you pointed it out. Now the reason why the first two pigs made their houses out of straw and sticks was…
Was because they had fallen on hard economic times due the terrible state of the country they lived in.
What?
Yeah. I mean that's the real reason why they left their mother to live on their own in the first place. She couldn't afford to feed them anymore. If she could, they would've been living out of her basement until they were 45. So they unfortunately had no cash lying around. That's why the first two pigs had to build their houses out of cheap material. Now you may be wondering how the third pig was able to afford to make his house out of bricks. Well basically he won the lottery but didn't want to share his winnings with his family. The jerk!
All right. But the point is, the pigs were living in three different houses made of three different types of materials. But then one day, a Big Bad Wolf came to town. And he wanted to eat those three little pigs.
Because the only fast food place in town was Chick-Fil-A, and the wolf really was only craving bacon that day.
So the big bad wolf went to the house made of straw. He knocked on the first pig's door and said: Little pig, little pig, let me in.
And as the first pig stood scared and realized his life was soon to end, he began to flashback to when he first met Elsa the Snow Queen and their amazing adventure they had where he learned that when it comes to your fears, you just have to let it go, and should instead ask all of your friends if they wanna build a snowman.
Hold on. What are you doing?
Having a flashback moment. All the best modern stories have them now. Wait'll we get to the part where we discover the first little pig once had a trans-dimensional adventure where he finally discovered the secrets as to why 10 year olds in the Pokémon world never age!
Whatever. Let's just move on. So the pig of course tells the wolf that he can't come in. So the wolf says: Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down. And with a large puff of wind the wolf made from his mouth, he blew the house over.
And of course, the second pig had been watching everything from afar this whole time and saw how that evil wolf senselessly ruined his brother's life. And that was when the second pig decided to dedicate his life to stopping crime.
What?
So by the time the wolf got to the second pig's house and said: Little pig, little pig, let me in, he heard the second pig say: Some little piggys go to market. Some little piggys go home. Some little piggys got roast beef. BUT THIS LITTLE PIGGY IS PACKIN! Then the pig opened the door to the house showing he was holding two HUGE laser guns. The pig pointed them at the wolf and then declared: My name is Inigo Pig Toya. You killed my brother. Prepare to die!
Smackle, what are you doing to this story!?
IMPROVING IT! So then the wolf laughed at his adversary and said: You believe a pig like you can defeat me? The pig smiled and replied: In the words of the cutest sitcom character ever – Michelle Tanner… YOU GOT IT DUDE!
But getting things back on track: the wolf simply huffed and puffed and blew the second pig and his house down. Then the wolf moved on to the third pig's house. And when he got there…
The third pig walked out of his house with two even larger laser guns, and then declared to the wolf… One shall stand. One shall fall. The wolf looked at the pig in hate as he replied: Why throw away your life so recklessly? The pig then simply said: That's a question you should ask yourself Big Bad Wolf.
Hold on! Smackle, what the heck is going on in this story now?
The greatest battle of the century! So the pig and the wolf fought with their laser guns and fists. Eventually they were near the edge of a cliff. Despite both being weakened, the wolf now had the upper hand as he looked at his pig opponent. As the wolf prepared for his final blow, he said: Grr. I would've waited an eternity for this. It's over little pig. Then the little pig put both of his fists together and yelled: NOT BY THE HAIRS ON MY CHINNY CHIN CHIN! And then with his last ounce of strength, the pig pushed the wolf off of the cliff. At last, the little pig had finally honored the memory of his fallen brothers. And that… is where our story ends.
Oh good. Well at least we can stop now before…
Until we get to the sequel where a giant transforming planet turns the Big Bad Wolf into a new villain known as Galva Wolf. But luckily a new hero known as Rodimus Piggy steps up and shows that he has the touch, and he has the power!
Okay. I'm not even doing anything anymore. I'm leaving.
Wait. Farkle. You're going home early? But what about your next story? I thought you were gonna tell the kids all about Sleeping Beauty.
Another time. Besides… it would probably just end with you explaining how the prince was secretly a Pikachu in disguise the whole time.
Wait. You knew that too? Awesome!
THE END

Excerpt from Be Unbroken or Be Whole Again
Be Unbroken or Be Whole Again is a Pokemon fanfic anthology series following River and Mimikyu from Ryme City. Two lonely souls unite as their bond grows stronger and stronger over each hardship that comes their way.
“Happy Birthday, River!” Mom and Dad cried as they brought my birthday cake out of the kitchen to the small, wooden dinner table where we all sat.
“Oh my god!” I exclaimed, happy as all get out.
Today was my eleventh birthday. Both my Mom and Dad were here which was such a rarity for our family. With Mom travelling all over the world to discover new Pokemon and Dad working long hours at Clifford Tower to make ends meet, it was extremely unusual for the both of them to be home at the same time.
“I love it so much! It’s so cute.” I cried as the small Pikachu cake was placed on the table, with two number one shaped candles at the ears.
“And it’s ice cream cake,” Mom said. “I know it’s your favorite.”
Sometimes I wondered how she could still remember the small details about me, even though she was never here. It just reminded me even more that she did care, even if she wasn’t always physically around.
“Thanks, Mom,” I said, giving her a hug.
“Now make a wish,” Dad said as he flicked my nose playfully, causing me to giggle.
“Okay,” I cheered, closing my eyes and thinking about my wish.
At school, I was always the weird kid. I was never really into the things that other girls my age were into. While their favorite pokemon were Eevee or Skitty, mine were Shuppet and Absol. Every time I tried to bring up something I was interested in, like weird urban legends or pokemon breeding, I was shut down so they could talk about boy bands and the latest gossip. And it was even worse when I tried to talk to the boys. They found me equally as freakish as the girls did. I found it quite lonely at school, and found most of my solace in the library, hoping that one day I would find a friend.
I’ve got it! I thought. I wish for a friend. A companion. Somebody who I can talk to. Somebody who won’t run away or think I’m weird. Somebody who will love me for who I am.
Wishing with all of my might, I blew the two candles in one blow. Not very impressive but I hoped with the extra wish power that my wish could become reality. Mom and Dad both clapped after the flames were extinguished, and Dad gave me an extra big Bewear hug.
“Dad!” I complained, trying to squiggle away from his tight arms. In reality I was delighted by the affection, but I didn’t want him to know that.
“Okay, okay,” he chuckled, releasing me instantly.
“So whose present do you want first?” Mom asked as she retreated into her and Dad’s bedroom. “Mine or Dad’s.”
“All things considered, I think it would be best to give my present first,” Dad said.
“Did I ask you?” Mom teased, but she brought out Dad’s present anyways.
Dad’s present was inside a huge box, almost as big as my torso, wrapped in purple foil paper with a big black bow on top. Seeing the present wrapped in my favorite colors brought me so much joy, but it did not quite overwhelm my feelings of curiosity.
I opened the present with fervor, borderline desperate to see what was inside. On the top there was a medium sized backpack in blue and purple, with a pokeball shaped insignia in white on the front pouch. My eyes widened as I took the backpack to see that there were even more things. Various berries, potions, ethers, and a few medium sized bags of pokemon food were underneath, as well as a purple and black snapback hat and a pokedex.
“Oh my god this is great!” I cried before hugging my Dad even tighter than he hugged me. “This’ll be perfect when I find my Pokemon partner! We should go meet one tomorrow!” I found myself jumping up and down in excitement.
“Okay, calm down,” Dad said, putting a hand on my shoulder to stop me from vibrating to a different dimension. “You haven’t even seen your Mother’s present yet.”
As if she were waiting for a cue, Mom came out with a green and black pokeball with a golden lining. The ball had a small black ribbon on top. “A POKEMON?” I nearly cried tears of joy at the sight. “My very own pokemon!”
“Well, sort of,” Mom stated. “A Pokemon has to choose you as well you know.”
“I know,” I said with none of the passion leaving my voice. “What kind of Pokemon is it?”
“It’s for you to find out,” Mom said with a mischievous grin, “but I’m sure that you’ll love it.”
She then handed me the pokeball, and I held it with care.
“I hope that we can be the very best of friends,” I whispered to the pokeball.
I then pressed the button in the middle and released the Pokemon inside.
“Kyu! Kyu!” the Pokemon cried as it came out.
It looked Pikachu-ish, but it wasn’t really a Pikachu. It had a similar shape, but it looked as if it was made of cloth and like somebody used a marker to draw on its face. The Pokemon tilted its head in curiosity, and then warily moved closer to me.
“So cute!!!” I squealed quietly. “What kind is it?”
“She’s a Mimikyu,” Mom said. “Mimikyu is a fairy/ghost type from the Alola region. Not exactly the most beginner friendly, but I believe that you and Mimikyu will be the best of friends.”
Mimikyu was at my feet now, looking up at me inquisitively.
“Hi, Mimikyu! I’m River,” I said as I sat down and let her inspect me. As it did, I noticed that there was a slight ghostly energy coming from the… not skin, but actual cloth.
“Mom,” I asked, “Why does it wear this cloth over it?”
“Well, why don’t you find out?” Mom replied as she passed me my pokedex.
As soon as I caught it, I opened it and took a picture of the Mimikyu.
“Mimikyu, The Disguise Pokemon,” the pokedex said in a robotic voice. “A Ghost and Fairy type. It wears a ragged head cover to look like a Pikachu, but little is known about this Pokémon. It's said that a scholar who once tried to look inside met his end.”
“Cool!” I cried. My parents looked at each other, slightly concerned about my sanity.
“A lonely Pokémon,” the pokedex continued, “it conceals its terrifying appearance beneath an old rag so it can get closer to people and other Pokémon.”
I turned to find Mimikyu behind me, looking a bit nervous.
“Well I don’t care if other people think you’re scary,” I told her. “I think you’re amazing and super cute!”
Mimikyu looked up at me, the large head of her disguise leaning back.
“And don’t worry about me trying to take off your disguise and try to take a peek, although I think it’s got to be awesome. If you stick with me, I’ll make sure that we’ll become so strong that nobody will pick on us!” I stood up then. “It’ll be me and you against the world, side by side forever!” I leaned back down to look Mimikyu in the eyes. “That is, if you’ll choose me as well.”
At that moment, Mimikyu jumped into my arms and then climbed onto my shoulder.
“Mimikyu! Kyu! Kyu!” She cried joyfully, snuggling my cheek as I laughed with joy.
I could see Mom and Dad absolutely beaming, overjoyed to see that I connected with Mimikyu so well. And I was too. I now had a friend. A companion. Somebody who wouldn’t run away or think I’m weird and that I could talk to because they were just like me.
“Mimikyu, we will become best friends right?” I asked, a playful smirk on my face.
“Kyu!” she replied.
And that’s when I knew that my birthday wish had been answered.

Don’t Want to Let You Go Chapter 1: Like a Wild Bird
Next Chapter: Chapter 2: Heart or Family
-----------
It’s hot outside. Really hot. She finds the intense temperature too much for her liking. Still, the heat of the region, though barely bearable, is the least of her worries.
She takes a sip of her iced lemonade and feels the urge to just pour the whole glass on her own body to try to resist the intense heat of the morning; though she ultimately settles with just placing the cold drink over her warm forehead.
She sighs, the reaction partly caused by the refreshing sensation in her face, but also by her now usual distress...
The heat of the tropical island is not what keeps her awake at night, she acknowledges, as she absently stares at the plasma television in front of her.
No.
What keeps her up until the sunset is a thought that has been bothering her for years now, one that she has tried to push away over and over again: Her long-repressed urge to move away from Alola to discover and explore other regions… Just as her father did.
Her need for a change and her enjoyment of a new environment have always been well-engraved traits of her personality, traits she’s had ever since she was a kid and that constantly earned her complaints from her mother. The woman used to compare her to a wild bird: never content with feeling trapped inside the jail she has always considered stability and settlement to be.
Another discrete sigh escapes her, though her torment remains unnoticed by her friends. They’re both still oblivious of the battle that has been taking place inside of her head for quite some time now…
A battle in which the desire to follow her dreams and her nature was already winning over the comfortable stability Alola had provided her with for so many years now.
It’s not that she hasn’t enjoyed her life for the past few years; She had tried to do everything right: She maintained her championship, made really good friends, bought a house for herself on her 20th birthday, and pushed her urge of leaving away for years. She had tried it all… and all of her efforts had been motivated mainly by one reason...
Well. Two reasons. She acknowledges, watching Lillie and Hau laugh in unison, both of their gazes fixed on the screen in front of them as they praise the quick counterattack a Fairy-type trainer manages to pull against a Toxapex.
Their happiness and enjoyment of the moment make her mouth curve into a nostalgic smile.
She sometimes wishes she could stop feeling this way, after all, her time at Alola had been perfect at first, allowing her to discover the region on her own as part of the famous Island Challenge. Once she explored the islands thoroughly, saved the region and achieved the Championship, though, she had slowly started to feel caged again: Confined to a small region, tired of the same daily activities and bored of the slow, barely urban pace that every other islander seemed to love and be used to.
She loves them both, but, in the end, the decision has already been taken. All that's left for her to do is actually tell them and carry on with her plans. Plans she’d had for months now but that she hadn’t found the chance to speak about with them since the idea of hurting her best friends has always been what scares her the most.
“Fairy pokémon are so dope!” The recently named kahuna screams, taking her out of her thoughts for a second, his gaze focuses on her as if asking for her approval and his typical ear-to-ear grin manages to make her heart sink for a moment.
“Yeah, they’re pretty convenient…” She responds, not bothering to think on a better answer as her chest aches at the thought of watching that giant smile on his friend’s face disappear.
“They’re also the cutest!” The Aether girl comments, her head comfortably rested over the Alolan-native’s shoulder as she keeps her eyes on the television.
Lillie and Hau had grown closer and closer over the years, their reciprocated romantic feelings have always been obvious to everyone. Their relationship is pretty much established if not for one simple fact: There is no official relationship. At least not one that goes beyond a close friendship.
Even though they behave as boyfriend and girlfriend most of the time - or at least as the most devoted of friends - none of them have ventured to give the first step yet.
They have evaded her questions countless times, always telling her they are both fine as they are, and despite there being no actual progress between them, their relationship is still solid and endearing and it always manages to make her heart flutter.
She hears the sound of footsteps right behind her, the quiet pounding of feet against the elegant marble stairs manages to resonate quietly in the living room. She turns her head around, expecting to find Lillie’s young-looking mother, only to end up locking gazes with her friend’s brother instead.
She cannot deny the awkwardness of the moment. The sudden heat plaguing her cheeks as she thinks about how well the years have treated Gladion.
His hair is longer now, tied up in a slim ponytail. His still existent ear piercings, when combined with his very elegant daily dressing style, manage to make the 23-year-old look young, yet professional. His still piercing green eyes connect with her's for only about two seconds, but as her heart rate raises those few seconds feel like hours to her.
She looks away first, too embarrassed of her awkward reactions. Disappointed of her feelings as the blonde walks towards the studio unaware of the Champion's odd behavior.
She wonders if unaware is the right word to use… Though she’s more inclined to call it ‘uninterested’.
He had rejected her, after all.
Though thinking about that day still hurt a little, she couldn’t deny she had learned to coexist with the boy, even after her rejected love confession. She’d grown used to bump into him over the time whenever she visited her best friend’s house, and even though they tried to ignore each other most of the time she still sometimes exchanges a few words with the young CEO.
She watches him as he enters the studio, hands shoved inside his lab coat’s pockets, and she can’t help but be surprised at how much he has changed in the years they have lived without speaking to each other.
She never imagined he would turn out to be a total workaholic, though she has to admit the presidential look suits him very well.
Another sigh escapes her, though this time it doesn’t go unnoticed by her friends, who turn to look at her with worry in their eyes.
“Hey Moon” She hears Hau speak, raising his tone over the narrator of the pokémon battling channel's voice. “Is something bothering you? You know you can tell us anything”. His voice sounds hushed, concerned. He takes her hand in his with a comforting smile in his face, and Lillie nods at her in approval of the kahuna’s statement.
“We’re here for you” The blonde murmurs, joining the conversation with a sympathetic and sweet smile. A smile that only manages to make her heart sink further into her chest.
She waits until Gladion leaves the studio, observing as he walks up the stairs once more, his gaze seemingly lost in the document he had just retrieved.
She turns around to look at her friends as soon as she loses sight of him, swallowing hard and readying herself for the pair’s imminent negative reaction.
She has to tell them, she repeats to herself…
Even if it hurts them.
“Hau, Lillie…” She calls them, biting her lip with nervousness. “There’s actually something I’ve been wanting to tell you both for quite some time now…” She speaks, earning a curious glance from both of them.
She can only hope they respect her views. That they support her decision.
“I’m leaving Alola” She announces, watching Hau’s eyes grow wide in surprise and Lillie’s gentle reassurance turns into a puzzled expression.
The narrator of the pokémon battling channel’s voice resonates in the living room as he announces the defeat of a Clefable, knocked out by a powerful poison attack inflicted by the challenger’s Toxapex.
“Please don’t take it personal…” She pleads, fidgetting with her fingers in an attempt to fight back the fear of their reaction. Specially Hau’s. “You see… I’m… like a wild bird”
“Wild bird my ass…” She hears Hau’s venomous words echoing all over the living room, proving her worst fears to be true; though when she looks up to face him she can’t see anything but emptiness in his eyes.
“Please Moon, is there something we can do to make you reconsider?” She hears Lillie speak this time, tears already filling her eyes and running down her cheeks. She opens her mouth again, hesitating for a second, but ultimately managing to voice out her thoughts “You’re our best friend Moon. You’ve always been…” She struggles to speak without her voice crackling “And knowing you… You’re not planning on coming back”.
Lillie’s words manage to make Moon feel insecure for a second, deviating her gaze from them and choosing to look at the floor instead. She grabs her right arm nervously as tears start running down her cheeks as well.
She knew they wouldn’t like the news. She had just hoped they wouldn’t take them this badly.
“Lillie I…” She starts speaking, looking for the words that would hopefully make her friends less worried - less angry - about her news, but she can’t find any. At least not something that can be both comforting and truthful “I can’t make any empty promises to you…”
“Then don’t make any promises at all” Hau speaks, the resentment in his voice makes her heart ache like it’s been stabbed by a million daggers. “Just leave” He mutters so low she doesn’t know how she hears it so clearly.
Her tears fall down her cheeks towards the floor, but she can’t help it, she can feel her chest growing heavier and heavier with every second that passes.
One glance at Lillie’s tear-filled eyes is enough to flood her eyes with tears of her own.
One look at Hau’s disappointed face is all it takes for her feet to start moving on their own, running away from the mansion.
