#treasure island #once again scanning midcentury stevenson editions for my own gremlin purposes!#I really do like when they get someone who is a reasonably capable maritime illustrator to do these...#alas these are not nearly as pretty editing-wise as my previous two posts of this type - I am not skilled enough to preserve the green ink #in a digitization when the paper's so significantly yellowed as this copy's!#BUT I am very pleased with my editing job on the ones where I scanned my thumb as well as the page!

does Tallstar’s SE (or Tallstar in general) have any changes? Hes always been my favourite character

For Tallstar's Revenge, there's a ton of building blocks I want to keep.

(WIP Title: Tallstar's Collapse)

The story is that Heatherstar, a few years ago, started a campaign against ShadowClan for control of the Mothermouth Moorland (ShadowClan probably calls it the Mothermouth Marshland). It's a floodplain just above the carrionplace and to the east of the Moor. This war is in its early stages, but quickly escalating.

To win this, she's focusing on training more Runners. Tunneling is a defensive activity. It helps you catch more food, it makes shelters from storms, it produces the best clay that any Clan has access to. And it's not useful for conquest.

So she's killing it, slowly. Into this world, Tallkit is born.

Sandgorse and the Tunnelers, like canon, realize that Heatherstar is trying to end their ancient tradition. The more they fight her, the more justification she has for denying them apprentices. I have some sympathy for Sandgorse I intend to portray here. He's still wrong for how he treats his son, but without a young tunneller, generations of knowledge will be lost.

But Tallkit CAN'T be their savior. He's a Runner, he hates tunnels, he has no mind for types of soil or a sense of depth. Heatherstar is right behind him to encourage

So between all this, Palebird's postpartem depression, Sandgorse's disappointment, Heatherstar's pressure, and the escalating war, Tall feels suffocated. I'm planning for Jake to be one of those traveling cats, from the original book.

(Also Jake is not Firestar's father, not in a way that matters. They do not look very similar either. Chelford cats don't have a concept of fatherhood and I don't appreciate canon's implication that Jake had special Main Character Genes and Tallstar immediately liked him because he saw his ex in him :/)

Jake offers him an adventure and freedom. I don't care much for the revenge-setup of the original book honestly. If I can find something else for them to look for together, I'd prefer that-- but the point of this journey is for Talltail to experience freedom for the first time in his life.

He meets old BloodClan, he rests a week as a kittypet, he explores the farms beyond the Clans and sees how the cats live. Talltail considers what the world has to offer and where Jake can bring him, as both a lover and as a symbol of freedom.

But in the end, he misses his family, and he misses WindClan.

Talltail decides that he wants to return to the Clans. He chooses this over the life he could have had with Jake, believing that his family needs him and that this is truly where he belongs. He believes he can make it better., and in some ways he can.

But, long after this SE ends, we see that power acts through leaders just as much as they can act through power.

Anyway, that's the WIP.

#Definitely one of my reduxes that hasn't 'clicked' yet #It's a good moment for my rewrite timeline wise #But at the same time it's not grabbing me yet.#Tallstar's SE is like... good. It has a lot of issues with the relationship payoffs #Mainly with Shrewclaw and Sandgorse #Though Palebird could also use some touching up #But like #As it is it's pretty solid #And unlike Bluestar's SE which I love BUT had a great idea for with the forget-me-nots #I haven't found anything like that which is sucking me into Tallstar's Collapse #Tallstar's Collapse #Honestly Jake and Tallstar is like... fine to me #Bonefall Rewrite #Not my favorite ship but I understand Why people like it #But for my own taste they're just not fucked up enough #I like it when two deeply unhinged little gremlins happen next to each other

rewatching tcw and i i can’t get over the fact that at one point, yoda was like “hi skywalker! we’ve been best friends since forever and you’re great at disobeying every order ever and you will get into so much trouble. that won’t be my problem but i am sorry. anyway i need you to help me break out of this place that’s been my home for 900 years since everyone else won’t let me leave because i need to go speak to dead people” and anakin goes along with it because it was just another boring tuesday and he had nothing better to do.

Oh my god could I stop being sick please? It's been two freaking months and I got shit to do!

#nasty bronchitis that ending up putting me in the hospital #I'm behind in doing real life things but also just so freakin tired #i wanna do dumb tumblr stuff #but i already have a post wrote up with links to all the info on shubble/wilbur situation so people don't have to look 50 different places #BUT I also don't wanna make every post I have time to make about... THAT #THAT'S DEPRESSING #but i said i would and I'm a person of my word so...#it's been over a month since I've been able to make a sound #you'd be surprised how bad it is sensory and emotion wise to not be able to laugh or make sounds when you cry or groan in frustration #I'm in PT too because I was so weak by the time I got in the hospital that I couldn't stand #was literally coughing so hard and so constantly that I couldn't keep down food #lost about 25 lbs in 3 weeks according to the doctors (I'm overweight but that is still a LOT for anybody that's not exercising to lose)#going to push myself today because my hair has gotten so thick and long that it's causing too many sensory issues #also a bit of gender dysphoria just to keep it interesting #the person who cuts my hair is aware of how sickly I am and is having me come in when she hasn't been doing a hair treatment before me #still there's a risk of an asthma attack or just collapsing from the short walk #literally do not care #my hair is thick and hot and too long #let me be an androgynous gremlin!#also my cat says hi (he is slapping my phone like No phone love me NOW!!!
