Nothing will raise your expectations unrealistically about how good some random old fantasy series will be more than a blind guardian song

I’m almost at the point where I’m ready to start taking commissions but trying to figure out pricing is tripping me up so bad. On one hand I definitely don’t want to undercharge, but on the other I don’t want to scare people off with higher prices :—/

working on being a less unpleasant person but the one pet peeve I will nurture forever is when people make those "look how ugly cat paintings were in the medieval times!" posts or vids and it's five fernando botero pictures and that one long cat by pierre bonnard

Perfect choice of book to start reading a day after I cried because my bf showed me a tiktok slideshow of critically endangered animals with overlaid text of them talking to the viewer anthromorphically about how they’ll be gone forever soon, set to melancholic string music

Realizing how much of the content I see online rn is either trying to sell me something or tip me over into a boiling outrage. Like manufactured content like those ppl cutting the bottoms of their shoes off or clogging a toilet with whipped cream or whatever, designed 100% to get clicks by making ppl mad. I’m gonna pick up oil painting again which is like the artist’s version of touching grass

grahhh i love ur art so much. when u paint how do u integrate ur lineart/sketch if at all? or do you paint from scratch ??
Thank you! I almost always discard the sketch immediately after blocking in the colors and/or major shadow-shapes on a layer underneath (basically just recreating the shape of the sketch in shadow/color, just to have a blobby base to build on top of).
I either delete it or, more usually, merge everything on one layer and paint over it.

do you have more music like star rider? you posted that one a couple weeks ago or so and i really ended up liking excerpts from a future past in its entirety. thank you for having great taste & introducing me to something cool & new
I'm glad you liked it!! Love Hallas but this is another tough one because they're just a bit too unique in the current landscape of retro rock. To me. Star Rider especially is such a mellow and kinda dreamy song, it's epic but also foreboding and I haven't found anything that sounds quite like it.
They pull influence from all over the place, mainly 70s prog and hard rock/early so-called proto metal.. lots of hammond and twin lead guitar harmonies. For bands in the past you can look to (for at least certain elements of their sound, if not the complete package), most common comparison would be Wishbone Ash. There's also Uriah Heep, definitely some Eloy (x), Nektar, Camel, and I feel like they've got a lot of italian prog influence, like Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso. Think I hear some Jethro Tull-isms in there as well. Pretty sure at least some of the band members are big fans of Rush and Genesis. There's something like deep purple and maiden in their sound as well, though mostly you'll pick up certain riffs and such.
Other bands that just kinda fit that heavy prog or throwback rock.metal, synthy, retro kitsch vibe that Hallas goes for imo:
Night - Hight Tides - Distant Skies
Flight - A Leap Through Matter & Echoes of Journey's Past
Astra - The Black Chord
Ashbury - Endless Skies (this band is what I think of first when I think of that sort of epic fantasy sound in retro rock)
I did not like the vocals on this much but you might have better luck with it, Phantom Spell - Immortal's Requiem.
Hopefully some of these recs hit as well, or at least point you in the right direction :-)

Any recommendations for someone who wants to get into goth music (and likes heavier metal and rock)?
You could start off with gothic rock. It was my intro to the scene and, in my experience of playing goth music to non goths, it's the most accessible.
A few of my favorites are The Sisters of Mercy (+ First and Last and Always and Vision Thing), Fields of The Nephilim (after their disbandment their frontman formed a gothic metal band called The Nefilim), Rosetta Stone, Pretentious Moi?, Behind The Scenes (at least their first album), Temple of Angels, Solemn Novena. But if you want more of the most notable bands there's also The Cure (this & the all time classic Disintegration r my favs of theirs), Killing Joke, The Damned, Bauhaus (who are a bit less accessible than the rest).
If you want to go more obscure, I have a whole playlist that's primarily lesser known bands, nothing but goth rock (with the last song, Ladykiller, being gothic metal so just ignore that one lol - although, while gothic metal isn't considered part of the scene due to being an offshoot of doom metal, I and a lot of other goths I know still listen to it, so if you haven't delved into that but want to go on a sidequest after this I have a list for it too.)
Some other bands (darkwave, ethereal wave, post punk, etc): Corpus Delicti (loud guitars), London After Midnight, Rope Sect, Die Laughing, Inkubus Sukkubus, Cocteau Twins, The Eden House, Wisborg, Horror Vacui, The Merry Thoughts, Nosferatu, Autumn, Lycia, The Mission, Pink Turns Blue. Some bands that have stronger metal elements or are metal with heavy goth rock elements: Cemetery Echo, Tiamat (only some albums), Theatre of Tragedy's Aegis, Lepra (last one's one of my fav recent discoveries, black metal with deathrocky vocals).
By no means comprehensive but hopefully something here works as a gateway for you!

Do you have a music tag? 👀
I have a music recs tag (which is pretty much any links & bandcamp audio I've posted about), wait let me listening (forgot to upload my monthly charts lately tho lol), and a playlist tag but for the last you're better off just checking out my spotify directly 'cause it's more comprehensive

do u find you prefer sound over lyrics, or are both equally important for your enjoy to the tunes.
Honestly it depends on the song, but I’d say the sound is almost always more important. In a lot of cases I can’t fully understand what the singer is saying (both because I usually listen to extreme metal with garbled vocals and because I have trouble processing words in me brain) anyway.
However I also have a very high tolerance to dumb lyrics lol so even if the lyrics are awful (barring some extreme cases) I’m usually still able to enjoy the song if the rest of it is good.
