tease tidbit tuesday 🫧
hi friends, i'm procrastinating doing my fema courses in favor of watching season 4 <3 have a lil bit of eddie vs the hoa
It’s just—Buck is big and it kind of drives Eddie a little crazy.  Like? God, okay. He’s a little stupid over it. You’ll have to forgive him.  He is so big, right, larger than Eddie and Eddie isn’t a small guy. He’s filled out since finishing his probationary year, settling in his career and getting comfortable in the life he chose for himself and Chris. He’s more functional muscle than big gains; his stomach’s soft, protected by a sweet layer of fat, but his core’s solid and his arms are twice the size they used to be when he was twenty-seven.  See? He isn’t small.  But, like, Buck’s just bigger, wider and broader and thicker, and there’s something so delicious about having somebody that large at his mercy, at his every beck and call. Buck has this quality about him, no matter his size, like he’s always ready to drop to his knees and let himself be taken care of, and it has Eddie’s head buzzing in a way that most definitely isn’t from the beer.

Tagged by @devirnis for WIP Wednesday! Here’s a whole scene from proposal fic because why not… (vomit content warning)
Bobby shows up on the doorstep before Buck's first PT appointment after being discharged and Buck is hit by sudden intense gratitude for the stupidest possible reason. Ah, he thinks, thank god Eddie isn't going to see what I'm like during one of these. And then What the fuck, Buckley? Eddie did see him after that first session, and it's not like his patheticisms start and end within a 45 minute time frame and the clean walls and persistent disinfectant smell of Dr. Shelley's office. He's spent the last two days in a shivering little lump on the man's bed, sleeping 16 hours out of 24. He's not really sparing him anything he hasn't already seen. What, then? Spread the different facets of exactly how fucked up he is around? Like if no one has to deal with too much they won't get tired of it? Here, Eddie, you can have helping me go to the bathroom because I can't stand up on my own. Maddie, you get me crying whenever I see you or even hear you on the phone because you're my big sister so I get to dump all my feelings on you, that's fair right? Bobby, you can hear me screaming in pain, is that ok with you? You were there last time, I'm sure you'll do fine. It's too much for any of them. It's too much for Buck.
"You ready, kid?" Bobby says, with the softest little smile. God. Buck is going to fall apart into tiny, gross little pieces. Eddie can mop the floor and be done with him.
“Ready,” is what he says, knowing it sounds like a lie.
They have him walking between the parallel bars today. He remembers them, from his leg. They don’t start there, most of the hour is more stretching (ow) and fine motor skills practice (frustrating). But they told him at the beginning they want to get him walking again as soon as they can to avoid any further muscle loss or atrophy, and they want to work with him to see if they can figure out how much of his dizziness is from brain injury and how much is from vestibular damage.
Well, he’s up on the bars now and he couldn’t fucking tell you. The whole world is just spinning around him at a sickening speed as the physical therapist and Bobby both mutter encouragement, tell him to keep taking one more step, he can do it. Buck tries, he really tries, he wants to take these five steps on his own and for the doctor to tell him he’s progressing fantastically and to be tired but happy on the drive home with Bobby, both of them smiling and cracking jokes. Instead he collapses three steps in and vomits on the soft plastic-y blue floor covering. His ear is ringing and he only has a split second to feel humiliated before there are arms around him.
“Sweetheart,” Bobby is saying over the background hum, “Sweetheart, I’ve got you.” There are hands in Buck’s hair and he chokes out a sob. He doesn’t really stop crying until they’re almost back at the Diaz house, how he got from the office to the car a mysterious blur. Bobby is holding his hand on the center console. When Buck squeezes a little tighter he hears him sigh in relief and it almost starts the tears up again. Bobby is out of the car as soon as he's parked, hurrying around to the passenger side to help Buck to the house. He’d protested, days ago, about the need to rent a wheelchair until he could carry a little more of his own weight, but now he guesses getting rolled to the door is more dignified than Bobby having to put him in a fireman's carry.
He’d do it. Buck knows he would, Bobby would pick him up and hold him in his arms and carry him as far as he needed to go. Bobby settles him on the couch, handling him as gently as he would a child at a disaster site, running to bring him mouthwash to get rid of the bitter taste of stomach acid, finding saltines in the kitchen, pouring ginger ale on ice and procuring as if by magic a bendy straw in old fashioned, environmentally unfriendly, single use plastic. He sits on the coffee table in front of him, at attention, ready to appease any want.
"Thanks, dad. Bobby! Thanks- thanks, Cap," Buck slams his eyes shut and drops his head onto the couch behind him. The indignities never fucking end, apparently. He's stopped from withering away entirely by the warm weight of a hand over his own where it lays on the armrest. Buck opens his eyes. Bobby is staring down at their hands, jaw working, breathing through his nose.
"It wasn't even-" Bobby frowns as his voice fails, and clears his throat to try again. "I kept wishing I could be mad at you. Being reckless again, running into danger, getting yourself hurt." He exhales heavily, breath stuttering into a sad little laugh. "But I watched you climb that ladder. I kept playing it over and over in my head. You had three points of contact the whole time. Could have filmed it for a goddamn safety manual. It could have been-" his voice catches again, and Buck turns his hand to grab onto Bobby's. "It could have been any of us. It could have been any of us up there. All the stupid stunts you pull that you walk away from, and it's-" Bobby's free hand waves wildly into the room. "It's a random fucking act of god that nearly-"
"Bobby-"
"That nearly takes you from me," he finishes, squeezing Buck's hand. He's crying, and Buck thinks he might be again, too.
"I'm so sorry-"
"Oh, kid," Bobby says, leaning forward, gathering Buck up in his arms. “Nothing to apologize for. You’re right here. You’re still breathing. That’s all I need.”
Buck weeps again, into Bobby’s shoulder, his captain or father or good friend’s hand rubbing up and down his spine. He is still breathing. He’s still breathing. Bobby’s soft flannel shirt smells like grill smoke and Eddie’s couch is familiar beneath him, and Buck hurts and feels sick and dizzy, and he exists. “Bobby-“
“It’s alright. It’s alright.”
Bobby’s face is wet when Buck pulls away after however long it takes for each breath to stop aching so bad as it rattles in and out of him. Buck wants to say all sorts of things, most of which amount to I love you, but what comes out is a nod towards the TV and “You wanna stay for the game?”
Buck doesn’t even know what sports, if any, are on today, but Bobby seems to hear some of the other words he meant to say because he smiles so kindly at him and says “Yeah, Buck. Anything.”

Hi Anna 💕💕💕
I saw that your post about how it looks like ABC just confirmed the cruise ship disaster. How do you think this will play into your theory of Buck drowning and having his breakdown that way???
hi darling 💜
First of all, I'm just slightly coherent, so bear with me lol. Just for context, I have a whole tag for the possibility of Buck drowning, all thoughts can be found here. Also, everything about this is gonna be based on the vision I wrote here, so if anyone is just stumbling into this and wants to know why I'm so sure they'll drown Buck go read that.
Up until the props department posted that picture of the life vests, I was thinking about Buck drowning in buddie terms, something that would be a climax for Buck, that could be used for Eddie in the same way the shooting can be used for Buck. But, with the life vests and the now confirmed cruise disaster, I started to think about what that could mean as a trigger. You don't need a lot to trigger Buck and you put something like this in the ocean????? With everything that went wrong for Buck around water?? It's so easy to start the timer in the timebomb we know Buck is and deal with everything surrounding the lightning strike and his death.
So, my most recent vision of it involved Buck saving a random person, (I did discuss the possibility of it being Bobby but didn't elaborate) I have been saying that they will use Bobby or Maddie to trigger Buck since I first posted about my theory about drowning Buck, mostly because his own death was not enough to trigger him but Maddie or Bobby being in serious danger would, but at first I wasn't convinced they wouldn't just use a surrogate for one of them and then have Buck find out Bobby was in danger too after. BUT I was talking to @bucksbackwardcap the other day and she brought up the possible parallels with worst day ever, with the plane crash and Bobby asking for help, and my brain has been in overdrive since.
Because let's say my general vision is correct and Buck will do something that will get him trapped to save someone and that will lead to him drowning, he would not handle almost dying again well. And taking my vision of Buck and Eddie are paired doing water rescues, they spot someone, they get them out, Buck doesn't resurface, Eddie needs to dive back in to get him, and the fun implication of Eddie having to save Buck again, and making the person that Buck went in to save Bobby, you can have so many fun developments from there. My main thing is Buck having a moment where he gives up, not in a he let himself sink type situation, but a bit more of a not trying as hard as he could to swin (we know Buck can swin and I've talked about the possible parallels with greys anatomy and teh ferry boat crash and Meredith drowning in season 3, with @slowlyfoggydestiny inputs), and considering who Buck is, dying in the place of someone he loves is the way to go. So we would have Buck doing something stupid to save Bobby, ending up getting trapped himself, Eddie distracted treating Bobby and not noticing Buck is not there immediately (that would play out nicely with the way Eddie is always last to know, like he's the last to see Shannon in the car crash, he only finds out Buck and Chris were in the tsunami after they are safe, he's the last to look up after the lightning), we have Buck not being able to swim back to surface, then obviously I don't want to kill Buck permanently, so Eddie would dive for him and we could have something nice on the buddie front (dear God please give me "You're not doing this to me again").
So that way we can have parallels to the worst day ever and sink or swim/the searchers, with all the water elements, and searching for someone, and the way the team doesn't know someone they love is there. And that could be interesting because we would have to deal with the way Buck gave up, we would have to deal with Bobby feeling guilt for the way Buck nearly killed himself to save him, and since Eddie like to insert himself in the father/son conflicts (rec the lawsuit) we could have Eddie struggling with having to save Buck again, and misplacing his feelings. You can create a really nice tension between the 3 of them. You can have Eddie pissed that Buck stopped swimming but at the same time conflicted over the fact that he can't really be mad at Buck for dying, so redirecting that feeling into other things while the tension between them gets more present in the space that's already growing since the cemetery. You can have Bobby not dealing well with the fact that Buck almost died because of him again, and he could go overbearing or detached like the lawsuit, I think he would go overbearing this time. And most of all you can have Buck losing his shit because for a second he thought he was gonna die and was okay with it.
So far Buck has been completely ignoring the lightning and everything about it, right? Just move past it. But there's a limit to how much you can just shove past before you just can't anymore and Buck is past that threshold. So you can have Buck steadly spiraling out of control in the background up until a moment where he just snaps. I've been conflicted about how Buck snapping could happen in a way where he would get help as quickly as possible because he lives alone, so it's not like it happened with Eddie, that you can just have Chris make a call, but let's say we're reaching the climax of the situation and Buck does something stupid, going up that crane type stupid, the type of stupid that could get him killed, and everyone snapping at him, and Buck snapping himself. And you can have the overbearing we didn't see from Bobby and Eddie after the lightning happening now. You have Bobby show up, we get a little nice father/son moment, and we have the parallels to worst day ever when Bobby asks for help.
But I also like the idea of Eddie showing up in the middle of it all, not only just for the parallel with fear-o-phobia, but also because I think it would be good for all the growth we've witnessed from Eddie, to have him really mad, ready to confront Buck because he's being an idiot, and just switching the flip back to protector once he realizes how bad it actually is. Obviously, this all ends with Buck back in therapy.
And I feel like that could work if Buck is saving a random person, if he's saving Bobby, or even if he's saving Athena.
And with everything that happened to Buck and people Buck loves around water, or just the situations where he can't breathe, having him drown is THE perfect trigger. And to have him in the ocean trying to save someone he loves again, to have him completely ignore his own safety, could be so so so so so good.

Since your Lone Star answers were so great and IF you feel like it….what would you want to see for the original recipe characters?
OH BOY my initial reaction was that i might have less to say about 911 prime bc they actually get real character arcs (🙃)… but that was not the case lol
eddie is also easy i want him to have his arc about being a deeply closeted man figuring it out. comphet to having some more problems and issues to gay realization. eddie and marjan are holding hands in my minds eye. you were written gay you just don’t know it yet
hen i want to have more captain’s seat turmoil! i liked what they set up in 702 but it was resolved so quickly we didn’t really get a chance to explore it. maybe bobby is a little hurt after the cruise so we get a bit more captain hen? it’s an interesting dynamic for her, she wears it well but clearly doesn’t feel Completely at ease with it (“don’t call me cap”) so I’d love to see some breathing room around it to let it play out
ravi i swear to god if they don’t give me a ravi begins im going to do something drastic
chim I’d love to see have some conflict on the job! not with the crew but with a call or something. we see him having relationship insecurities etc bc of calls he goes on, but i feel like we haven’t seen him challenged by an emergency During that emergency in a while… idk what that means specifically but he’s an EXTREMELY competent paramedic and firefighter, i want to see what it would take to make him waver! also more girldad chim :)
karen. more of her. more karen always and forever. I don’t even care in what capacity i just want to see her on my tv
maddie I want to see get to be silly!! i want to see all of that joy and happiness she EARNED by clawing her way through her own mind, and the rest of her life. I’d love to see her get to tell off her parents (a la “love me anyway”), I’d really like to see them unforgiven. i want her and Eddie to hang out also
buck breakdown era WHEN! i know the end of last season got a little ??? which i expect is because they didn’t know if they were getting picked back up again and wanted it to feel like A Conclusion just in case, but i want buck to have a full breakdown. death and spare parts and donor not dad and in case of emergency break glass guardian. i want him to finally lose it for real. he had his shut down era now i want him to boil over :) also more uncle buck and uncle albert!!
athena i want you to have to question your morals and beliefs and I want you to get to be less of a cop gjfhdhf her begins episode makes me so mad I think she should get another one where her oaths are confronted and she gets to let herself choose humanity over law
bobby… oh boy what could we wish for. i think I want them to bring back around the blood thing, where he got a reason to keep living (and maybe parallel it with buck or smth? give him a place to land?). even if it’s not a whole storyline i want to hear where he’s at about that now!! it’s been a long time since we’ve seen him like that, i want to see him revisit what that means after everything he’s built for himself here. I would also love to see buck and bobby acknowledge the father/son dynamic to each other! buck’s said it to TK and bobby said it to may and they’ve mentioned it in a dismissive way during a half reprimand but i want them to acknowledge it for real <3 maybe get a bobby defending buck and/or maddie to the buckley parents
misc: i STILL DESPERATELY want an all-kids episode where may has everyone’s kids at her apartment while the parents are at some kind of first responders and their spouses event and they have to scooby doo a mystery by themselves, please for the love of god i need them to talk about the will again before i explode, i want eddie and karen to hang out and be best friends, more josh and maddie, hen and buck should get drunk again, i would actually also love to see more of lucy!

SaL anon here bestie and *deep sigh* here we are...again. Not to get off topic but have you ever seem The Green Mile?? I have a complicated relationship with that movie but I the thing from it permanently imprinted on my brain is when the warden comes in demands "What in the Blue Fuck was That!?" It a whole ass mood right now after watching that clip and I highly recommend just watching that line to get the full effect.
Why, for the love of God, are we bringing up Shannon again??!! She didn't even really come up during Eddie's PTSD arc but we're just gonna randomly insert her in a episode sort of about death?? Of course we are because KR has literally no new ideas. Oh except for this season where she's like "You know what hasn't been done yet?? We haven't emphasized importance of family by blood so we'll redeem all the horrible parents with zero effort to let everyone know your grudges are petty and just hurt you." You know why that hasn't been done Kristen??!! Because this is a show about FOUND family, realizing your importance and worth in a space that's safe for you to do that, and having the support you need when the bad times come!! She has actually forgotten the very foundation of this show and I'd scream but I'm also so, so tired. You know what time it is then 🍸🍸🍸. Gonna read comfort fic and find a comfort show to put on when that gets hard. Cheers friend!!
Bestieeeee! What. The fuck. Is happening?! I didn't answer this Friday and I should have because yesterday was a WHOLE other mess! I feel so bad for dragging you into this show just in time for it to all go to shit. We survived RNM, we don't deserve to suffer like this again! 😩😩😩
Your "KR has literally no new ideas" line is SO apt after that clip yesterday literally recycling the eddieana meeting. Parallels can be used and be effective but after she literally just re-did Buck's fight with Bobby over returning to work with Eddie (only to not show their apology or Eddie's decision to return to work on screen), and re-did Eddie's "it's time to get back out there after Shannon and figure out what you want") s4 arc last week, this "Buck meets a girl on a call in the exact same way Eddie met Ana" just looks...so so so lazy. Not to mention Buck and Eddie are only ever with women after they meet them on calls, AND we are reverting Buck back to season 1 "a relationship with THIS women must be able to fix me" which is just...gross. Buck was always one of my favorite characters but GOD I dread his personal scenes now because KR just doesn't know what to do with him unless it's trying to get into his pants in some way and she doesn't understand any of the motivations or what drives him as a character. Stop ruining my boy!! GOD I need her off this show like, YESTERDAY.
ANYWAY
This whole Shannon thing has me so 🙄🙄🙄 because as good as Ryan and Gavin are and Eddie/Chris scenes always are because they play so well off each other, this is like, the LEAST interesting thing they could have done and it's clearly not about Chris or Eddie or their complicated history with Shannon, it's just being used to push the "Eddie choosing someone to date for himself" idea. They could have given something deep and emotional this season like Chris now being old enough to start asking harder questions about Shannon leaving and Eddie trying to navigate that with him, or having a talk about Chris starting to be interested in dating and asking Eddie some hard questions about why Eddie isn't dating again since Ana has been gone for so long. But nope! It's "let's pretend this parent never did anything awful and there are zero complex feelings about them" hours once again. Thanks, I HATE it. And for me it ruins the nuance of Shannon's character because she WAS just a person who was struggling. But where Eddie thought his son didn't need *him* so much as he needed Eddie to provide for him and once he found out Chris just wanted to spend time WITH him he fought tooth and nail to make it work no matter how hard, Shannon decided it was too much and cut off all contact because keeping in touch with her son and making sure he knew he was loved wasn't as important as her not wanting to be put in an awkward position. And that's life! And Chris and Eddie should be allowed to acknowledge that they loved her at some point, Chris should be allowed to have good memories of his mom, and still be allowed to acknowledge that she abandoned them and hurt them deeply and there are complex feelings around that!
These complex parental relationships leading to the found family of the 118 has ALWAYS been at the heart of the show and you're right that KR has NEVER understood that and has spent this season undermining that bond across the whole team and any time the story tries to emphasize the found family it's also still pushing the blood family importance so the storytelling comes out confused and in opposition to itself giving the audience emotional whiplash. I'm just so very very tired of this. I'm positive it's too much to hope for but with audiences tuning out and the constant complaints at how the show is handling arcs and pacing and KR's choices, and even now articles by people who often write about 911 calling out the inconsistencies, maybe the negotiations for renewal will come with some stipulations on who gets to be in charge. Even if I didn't love EVERY storyline choice in the early seasons, the episodes themselves were ALWAYS enjoyable overall and there was so much good stuff going on it was easy to let the stuff I didn't like as much roll past, so it would be good to get back to that sort of vibe again and KR has proved over several seasons that she is NOT up to that task. With the Tarlos wedding wrapped up, we might get...I don't want to say "lucky" because I don't think Tim is the greatest thing ever, but we might get some bit of pacing and consistency and flow back in the show (I know LS has some pacing issues as well but that feels to me more like them having to work around RL's insistence on centricity than anything else)
Oof. Lets see if we can make it through these last few episodes with this dating nonsense, the sperm donor arc and L coming back, and maybe even a Tay Kay jumpscare. Can't wait 🙄 At least Ravi is back home and the finale emergency looks like it will be good and we're getting injured Chim so we're going to get *some* crumbs out of this mess. And then it will be summer and I've got a fic idea started soooo, we'll see if I can get anywhere with my astronaut!Buck, NASA medic!Eddie Countdowns inspired thingy. Cheers my friend, we are going to NEED IT. (But hey, if we survived RNM, we can do ANYTHING. But also we shouldn't have to and I need this show to STOP IT.) 🍹🍹🍹🍹🍹🍹🍹

All right Alice choose your fighter!!!!!
However this poker game goes down you get a scene where Buck drags Eddie to the suit store. It's the complete fix of panic attacks and Anna. I'm to sexy is playing in the background while we get a montage of 2 platonic best friends dressing fancy. I will even throw in Chris with a thumbs up thumbs down reaction to every outfit.....
Or, pick any situation. Could be prepping for a first date, talking about a first fight, the day before the wedding, whatever it your choice. But we get scenes of Buck with his squad Athena Maddie and Hen. And in the other house its Eddie with his Karen, Carla and May. Then in the Han house it's Bobby and Chim teaching Chris Denny and Harry whatever lesson is going on in Buddie land lol.
Choose your fighter Nonnie, hello again! :D Thank you for this ask.
OMG, this is soooo hard. ;_; I love both of these scenarios! Well, if you allow me one thing. I just about choked laughing out loud at I'm Too Sexy playing in the background! XD Also, all hail the gay aura that that song has! In fact, the singer came out as bisexual all the way back in 1991. But can it please be a song that's about ACTUALLY being sexy rather than a parody on being sexy, based on a self-absorbed model one of the guys in the band was dating for a bit? ;) I wouldn't say no to a callback in the form of Whatta Man playing in the background, or since we had that cowboy reference in 610, it could be Ginuwine's Pony. ;p In any case, I think this scenario would be my answer...
Don't get me wrong, I want ALL the firefam antics, I want all the talks and teasing and honest to God joy that I know we're going to see from everyone that loves Buddie so much. I do! But I just know that 613 is gonna be really good to us no matter what, and if what it gives us is an actual reverse parallel of Eddie with Ana? Where the flirting is actually sexy and doesn't lead to panic attacks? Where Eddie realizes that damn, THIS is what it should be like? This is what he has been missing? Where he just can't contain his happiness, instead of failing to contain his fear? Wow. W O W. Cinematic poetry. Gimme all of it. My hopelessly romantic soul is ready!
Thank you so much, this was as fun as always! ^u^ I hope you have a great day! As always, my ask tag's here. xoxox

ohhhh unpopular opinion rating!! lmao ok i will just let out saggome things cuz i too need to bitch to somebody, feel free to ignore this if you ain't feeling this tho ❤️ laugh love etc xD
1.) i liked the donor-not-dad storyline because it showed that no matter the circumstances of your conception and birth, you deserve to be loved unconditionally by your parents. i think that this will ultimately help buck to find peace with his own backstory 😭
2.) buck id not regress for choosing to date natalia?! we saw buck happily choose to only have an armchair for months after taylor (meaning he was okay with being alone), and he happily accepted his parents buying him a couch (showing that they are closer and buck is happy to have them in his life more). he went at his own pace, and we clearly see that by immediately choosing to get a new couch after the childbirth, he is finally at a place where he is ready for somebody new in his life. plus, he is the one buying his own couch, simply inviting natalia along, which is a beautiful metaphor imo
3.) alternatively, choosing eddie's couch would have been a regression even though buddies love to ignore that. buck said his past girlfriends "came with couches", meaning that those couches were not his in the first place and that none of them truly met them where he is at. we see that well with buck having no couch because taylor took hers with her when she left. buck choosing somebody else's couch again would have shown that he has not learned a lesson. so there.
3.) i think that natalia coming off strong at first is actually paralleling buck perfectly? he comes off strong, overshares often, and tends to overwhelms others. people judge her for it but… buck did worse in their second date lmao
4.) natalia stepping into buck's scary mess during the childbirth scene showed literally and metaphorically how she was willing to accept all of buck, his life and past and baggage
5.) the characters saying shit does not mean they are all-knowing! 🙄 yes, eddie said that meeting people on a call is bad, but we also know that bobby and athena met on a call and are endgame. we see these characters contradicting themselves a lot because that's how humans are. the fandom gotta stop taking the characters' words like the word of a god. the narrative's entire point is to teach them (and us) that their way of thinking may be bullshit sometimes
6.) i liked the finale. lmao 😂
strongly agree | agree | neutral | disagree | strongly disagree
SAY ALL THAAAT!!!!!!!!!!!!! god you're so right especially with the buddie/natalia stuff ohh my godfddd. gonna respond to these in the order u said them btw <3 because u have SO many good thoughts here and I wanna get into them
1) I also love the sperm donor storyline!! I was a little squicked at first but that was more of a "this arc has sexual themes involving pregnancy that make me, personally, kind of uncomfortable for ace reasons" than anything else. but once I got past that I LOVE what it's done for buck's arc!! and in the finale when he literally held a baby that he helped create in his arms, and the grief was tangible on his face, and then he handed the kid over to kameron??? POETIC CINEMA. I LOVE HOW THAT STORYLINE WRAPPED UP <333 and when he told connor to just love the kid?? when we all know how he was raised??????? auigghhh <33
2) and onto the couch thing!! I actually missed most of his dialogue w natalia at the end of the ep because I was still shaking from the stress and intensity of the emergency BUT I LOVE THAT!?!?!?! how he's choosing his own couch but letting her come along!?!? and that's such a great point about the metaphor of him being in a place where HE'S ready for someone in his life. and so he's letting her in but he's choosing his own couch because he understands everything the couch metaphor has been saying all this time. on GOD you are making me a bucktalia fan I'm obsessed with them <3
2.1). there's a phenomenon in this fandom where fans will outright ignore things in canon/twist it to fit the Buddie Agenda and the WORST thing is that the buddie subsection of this fandom is like a fucking HIVEMIND. the theories are made, sometimes even taking canon and twisting it around to Fit Buddie, and then everyone just takes it and runs with it. everyone freaks out abt the couch theory in particular. so you hit the nail exactly on the head with the couch metaphor thing because everyone LOOOVES to say buck needs to choose eddie's couch but that's exactly what he did with taylor!! and abby!!!! and everyone else!! just because it's eddie doesn't mean he's not just another relationship in a long line of relationships!!!! it's just. very telling how the fandom has blinders on when it comes to buddie. and yeah sure fandom is for crazy theories and having fun with them but there comes a point where the crazy theories are completely overtaking the entire fucking fandom so people who want to enjoy other characters just. can't.
3). well see the reason why natalia gets bashed for coming off strong but buck doesn't when he's literally done worse (I love him but it's true) is because natalia isn't only a Woman, she's A Woman In The Way Of Buddie. so clearly her only role in the story is as an antagonist who is actively trying to hurt buck 🤪 <- sarcasm. and also buck is the Fandom Sweetheart Who Can Do No Wrong so. there u go.
4). exactly!!!! I also think there's something to be said for natalia the death doula, who first connected with buck over death, walking in and visibly making that metaphor of rejoining his life even with all the wildness, during a birth. aka thee most powerfully symbolic act of life + new beginnings that exists. I don't remember the details exactly but I think she might have even helped deliver the baby, which just kinda makes me even more 👀 at the symbolism there <333 I'm LITERALLY becoming a bucktalia fan purely because of this ask because ur takes are soooooooo <333333333
5). YES!!!!!!!!!! I'd also like to add that for eddie, it's TRUE that people he meets on calls aren't necessarily great partners. he'd met ana before, of course, but it was when they bumped into each other on the call where they actually started seeing each other as a romantic interest. and well we all know how that turned out. so when eddie says this I strongly believe that that's why!! but you're exactly right when you say it's not necessarily the case!! eddie's just one guy, who has been affected by this in a certain way, and so of course he's saying that that's the given outcome because it's what happened to him!!!! but bobby and athena met on a call, and so did hen and athena, but both of those relationships are strong and solid!! imo eddie is a very unreliable narrator here because the thing with ana probably still stings, so he's just saying things without really thinking through that they might not be true for other people like bathena, and could potentially be untrue for others as well. there's just. an insane amount of fandom illiteracy the SECOND either buck or eddie are involved because all anyone can ever talk about is how much they want them to kiss. and also you're so RIGHT that people take things characters say as gospel truth when they're LITERALLY just people in a story.
6). YESSSSSS IM SO GLAD YOU LIKED IT!!!! honestly it's probably one of my fav episodes!!!!! my ONE SINGULAR gripe is that there wasn't a lot of time spent recovering, even for chim, eddie, and hen, who all had fairly severe injuries. they were all at the hospital one second, and then there was a time skip and they were all walking around fit as a fiddle. however I understand that they thought it was gonna be The Finale so they wanted to wrap up everyone's arcs as best as they could, and they didn't really have enough time to put in everything that they wanted to put. so the gripe is a minor one, and besides, I've added some ideas to the list of fic to write <3
send me an unpopular opinion and I'll rate it!!

The ‘one week wasn’t enough time to mentally prepare for what Aisha and Tracie are about to do to me’ reaction dump:
This is going to wreck me I know it
I’m so stoked for HenRen but at this cost???
Actually feed me the tension and suspense
But also not too much bc I can’t handle it 🥺
Tumblr media
Ohhhhh Karen acting like a bossssssssssss
WAIT
WAIT CHIM SET THEM UP??????
OMG YESSSSSS
neighbor Chim to the rescue
Hen was so smitten already
Y'all I'm so excited for baby HenRen
I'm also LIVING for all the home life scenes with Denny ♥
Denny's 'momma' 🥺
WAIT
ALSO
MY BRAIN IS MAKING CONNECTIONS
THIS TOTALLY MEANS KAREN AND CHIM WERE SLOPPY DRUNK BFFS LONG BEFORE THE TEQUILA!!!!!!!!!1
Tumblr media
Also, I'm loving the music choices this season
I'll be honest, I never even considered how the fostering would be affected by Hen progressing with the med school story line. It makes sense and if they don't go through with it, I wonder if this will set up more placements? I'd love to see that more for HenRen
yall I KNOW they did NOT just have hen on the phone for THAT ?!
I -
Get them to a vow renewal honeymoon on a tropical island stat
OH THANK GOD DENNY IS OKAY
NOW HELP KAREN
I love Chim catching her sneaking out lmao
jesus the suspense rn
wait was that a fucking arm?
Tumblr media
nice to see they've still got their gag factor going
Buck you shoulda known she was gonna go fully Buck too lol
All yall are the same
So wait, I'm terrified to know how we go from this to her being worked on in the bus ??????
Nightmare for Hen or ??????????
Well tbf it is a nightmare but
I love the glimpse of Karen reacting about Eva calling about Denny - it really hits home harder how the eventual cheating hurt her, and it's kinda incredible she overcame it enough to move forward with Hen.
Bobby in the bus???!!!
Howard. Chimney. Han. You can't just -
FOX I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD
IF YOU KILL HER
I WILL RIOT SO
FUCKING
HARD
I SWEAR
IT
SO
GOD DAMDN
THANK YOU
Tumblr media
that was too fucking close for comfort okay
sob. city.
I can't believe there's only 15ish minutes Itleft - this episode FLEW
It's a little thing, but once again I noticed how Eddie looks to Buck to reassure him - that little nod and affirmation that Karen would be alright. I really enjoy seeing those subtle choices between them ♥
Karen has such a big heart 😭
Yep, Denny thanking her broke me thanks fox more dramatic sobbing here
I KNEW IT
I KNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW
So like - here's the thing: I would love to see her as a doctor. I would love to see Hen being a boss bitch saving people and doing surgery, and maybe even getting her own show, but selfishly I'm glad she trashed those papers because I love the Wilson family so much and am afraid that if they moved to a spin off that we'd get significantly less crossover with the 118 fam. Plus the doctor storyline would definitely have her having to make even more sacrifices in the long run (just thinking about residency alone, which is another year off) and I'll be honest I don't trust Fox to give the storyline good attention. I mean, we went how long with it chilling on the back burner?
I'm at least glad they put a lot of thought and effort into fading the storyline, because we got HenRen backstory, we got Karen backstory, we got so many cute Denny-and-Moms moments, and we got to see Chim being a meddling little shit.
"Are we supposed to take him out of the carrier?" lmaooooo
baby denny is fucking adorable ahhhhhhhhhh
Paralleling Karen giving up her dream with Hen giving up hers (at least temporarily) has me sobbing again
Karen's little snarl at Hen on the couch lmao I love them
Denny is too fucking cute 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Tumblr media
"This is my dream"
I'M SOBBING SO MUCH RN
I NEED THAT TWO WEEK BREAK TO PROCESS
10/10 THIS EPISODE IS TOP 5 ALL TIME CANNOT STOP BEING EMOTIONAL I LOVE THE WILSON FAMILY SO FUCKING MUCH

Top 3 911 *character* moments (for as little or as many characters as you like!!) for sleepover sunday <3
Amy, my buddie, my buck(y) - TY for this ask! Now I’m basically caught up on 911 for my first ever watch, I’ll do the main 118 - This is gonna be kinda long and ramble-y, so sorry about that!
Buck:
2x08 - Buck, Actually: The scene with Thomas in the back of the ambulace, this both makes and breaks my heart. I am 100% sure that this scene was pivotal for Buck in terms of how he then saw love and relationships afterwards, especially as it could have been Bobby or Eddie who sat with him but no it was Buck, who then tried to revive him, and was picking up the scrapbook pictures - “You don’t find it son, you make it.” And yeah even in season 5 it was to his detriment where he just tried to make it stick with Taylor because as he says to Maddie, he ‘clings’ and is scared of being left behind - I think in the near future he’s going to get the balance right.
Tumblr media
5x13 - Buck keeping his promise to always be there for Eddie and Chris (after the legendary kitchen scene apology/emotional whiplash of the century in 3x07) when Chris rings him and he hurries over to comfort Chris and reassure him beofre he goes to Eddie, and taking Bobbys advice from season one to heart here with Eddie and stepping in it with him, breaking down the door. Being there in the days afterwards helping with Chris. Buck keeping his promises because they are integral to him, the loyalty.
3x16 - Now this episode has gripped me and won’t let go, but the scene that gets me is actually a bit smaller - when the 118 are discussing Red with Buck over a game of pool, Buck seems to realise when Hen mentions people drifting apart, that even though he has now made it back to the 118 after all his trauma, back to his family, he could still end up being left behind - THEY could leave him, the firehouse, and lose contact - he’s in disbelief almost that they would lose contact, leave him behind. Seeing himself in Red, and before we learn his backstory in 4x04-4x05 it is just a glimpse into why Buck has a fear of being alone, of being left, and it was really well done.
Bobby:
One of the biggest scenes that gets me for Bobby is in 1x04, the ‘help’ scene in his apartment surrounded by Hen and Buck - that absolutely broke me. He says how many days he was sober for up to the 1/4 of a day, he set the damn table. Hen’s ‘Redwood’ speech. Trying to joke with Buck until he asks for help and just breaks and they’re there for him. When he needs them most. I would love to see a future scene paralleling this for either Hen or Buck with Bobby.
Tumblr media
I love the smaller sillier Bobby moments where we are reminded that he’s as goofy as the other firefam members but hides it better (unless he’s at home with Athena, she gets a front room seat): The roomba “give me your gun” scene - It makes me laugh so hard.
Finally for him, Him being there for Eddie, both after Shannon died/fight club, and around his breakdown - Bobby saw someone in the same postition he had been in, and used what he had expereinced, what he knew, and helped, let Eddie know that he had been through it and it wasn’t easy, but it gets lighter and lighter with time.
Chimney:
Taking Bobby to the baby ward in 1x08 - After the scene in the gym, where bobby is battling with himself over his deal with God, and Chimney realised what Bobby was really doing - he was going to commit suicide once he reach the number of people lost in the block of flats fire as a twisted kind of penance. Chimney taking him to see what his blood was doing, that Bobby shouldn’t look on it as a curse to keep him alive as a punishment, but as a blessing. And to throw his book away, or get a bigger one because he was here to stay. He felt responsible after being teh one to get bobby to donate in the first place, but ended up finding a drive for him to live, and taking him to show him exactly what good he was doing.
Chimney’s speech to Albert in the hospital after the car accident in 4x09. God that made me cry, Kenneth Choi is a fantastic actor. But Oh chim, The emotional whiplash of having his daughter just born, and running to be with Albert. Trying to joke about baby names to wake him up. Trying to stay upbeat even as you can see he’s terrified. Really going through all the stages of grief in that one scene - outstanding.
3x13: Chimneys talk with Eddie in the locker room + The bloody ambulance scene with Hen - You can just see how much Chim loves Maddie, how even just mentioning how he loves her lights up his face, how they’re going slow after everything because he knows first hand what maddie has been through after Doug stabbed him in season 2. Eddie turning round and delivering the iconic ‘tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone’, and then seeing Chim walk out the ambulance all confident to ask maddie on a date, covered from head to toe in blood - I just loved. I hope we get Chim flipping the advice back on Eddie soon.
Eddie:
Eddie telling his father that he wants to be better for himself, not just Christopher, in 5x17 - that such a damn powerful line because it can be so hard to be kind to yourself, to want to work on yourself not for anyone else but because you also deserve it too even if you don’t believe it all the time. And tell his dad that directly that he wants to unlearn what he taught him, honestly just important af.
Tumblr media
The Will - THE WILL - The ‘Because, Evan’ of it all, I swear. Like we don’t know just how long after Eddie Begins (3x15) occurs that Eddie changes his will (I like to think before/during 3x16). But we know Eddie’s sat on this knowledge for a long time, and he tells Buck because in this moment Buck needs to know he’s not expendable, he’s not getting left, Eddie trusts him, to save him, and to be there if he can’t. He takes teh twisted words the Buckley parents used and softens them, that Buck is wrong to think he’s replaceable, because to him and Chris he isn’t, and he has the paperwork to prove that.
Eddie and Christopher morning routine montage in 2x04 (i think?) - One of the most adorable scene in the show, and really shows how much Eddie loves his son I would love to see an updated version of their morning routine now christopher is older, I know we see it a little in season 5, but I’d love a new music based montage.
Hen:
Hen berating the doctor for not listen to her about her mother’s health issues in 4x13 - she stood her ground and she was persistent. She saved her mother’s life. And I am glad she told the doctor that he needed to listen to his patients particularly from minority backgrounds, because he was dismissive of what was happening and Toni almost died. Hen is going to be an amazing doctor, she will fight for her patients no matter what.
Hen being called by Athena to free her from the handcuffs near the end of season one - oh I laughed so hard at this, I was like Hen herself. I love how much Hen and Athena get each other, they go to each other for advice and support, about work and kids and spouses. They are both strong willed, black women in male dominated workplaces who unwind together with a glass of wine and could both put the world to rights.
2x09 Hen’s ‘I see you’ speech to the original 118 firehouse staff, after how they treated her - she is unrepentantly herself, she will not bow or bend because she has worked her ass off to get there and has overcome so much. Her passion about the job, about being one of the person who will dedicate their lives to helping other who need saving.

You said you had thoughts on Buck getting hurt while Eddie is the dispatcher consider this your carte blanche invitation to ramble/write/whatever when you have the time bc I am here like 👀🍿
okay yes. thank you, anon, for encouraging me to ramble lmao
alright so it's been a Lot the past 24 hours and i've been so busy i haven't really had time to process BUT i can't stop thinking about this scenario and the likelihood of it????
in fact, it's almost so on the nose i think i'd be more shocked if some variation of it didn't happen??? because, how many times have we seen maddie or may or abby actively be the dispatcher in contact with the 118 during a call??? it's a major part of buck and abby's relationship in s1. there's multiple times where chim ends up talking to maddie on a scene (beyond he contact with bobby) and may has spoken to bobby a few times too.
and if eddie is a dispatcher that works exclusively/specifically with firefighters like this post suggests, then it feels even more likely/obvious he'll be interacting with the 118 through calls. (episode titles like "outside looking in" and "fomo" also suggest he'd going to struggle with not being an active part of the emergency like normal)
so then. we've gotten the hints about lucy being a daredevil and being similar to buck. and we know buck is in a bad place mentally which tends to make him reckless. so it doesn't take a lot to envision a situation where buck is the one pulling the dangerous stunt and eddie's on the other end of the call
(tbh i'd scream if it paralleled buck and abby's first call where she's yelling his name and trying to find out what happened except in this scenario eddie is obviously more concerned about buck than what's happening in the emergency itself)
and maybe the line goes silent or eddie hears the crash or the fall or whatever it is and i cAN'T stop picturing him whipping off the headset and bolting out of his chair (kind of like how maddie does in 3x03 when she's on the phone with buck while he's at the VA hospital) and my god if it cut to a scene at the hospital or something - like him storming in and straight up to bobby, demanding to see buck because he doesn't know what happened and he doesn't know if buck's okay and he should've been there dammit, well.
i think i may just lose it

Sooo I still have a few more rewatches to do before I break this down but damn were we fed well tonight!!!!
I don't lb because I don't want to get spoilers before I see it but so many reactions I had, this was awesome!!!!
Okay Resident Evil looking opening, cool, cool, cool
Missed opportunity of joke coming back “And you thought the zoo was safer” (someone mentioned this in a previous post, if I find it again, I'll link it)
The elephant pushing something over, refusing to be ignored...yep - universe is screaming
Buck is oddly pushy for Eddie to accept that meeting Ana’s family is serious & Eddie is oddly insistent that it’s not
More Maddie and Josh time, yes!!!!
Parallel #1: Eddie buying Christopher a new suit for the christening, last suit he had was for Shannon’s funeral
More Linda =D
Ah, Tim Minear is one of the ones who wrote this, interesting
Buck and Eddie synchronicity in water rescue again - emergency had to do with “left turn”, GPS messing up and sending in the wrong direction to where it sinks
Taylor is more concerned with work than she is about having sex with Buck
YES TO KAREN AND DAVID
Ransomware attack happening in Texas - hmm....
Denny and Harry!!!
I wish Athena didn’t have to see that jerk ever again
That fan club is disgusting, what idiots
DA is right because that’s exactly why the guy wants to do it
That whole suit store scene is cringe yet again, that whole “shh” thing made me flinch because it’s just so cringe (I did not cringe with Buck and Taylor at all) - love how Eddie basically confirms what Buck said about Ana wanting to show him off “Let’s just try it with a tie” - then the whole “Let’s ask Mom” thing - right…I wish I could say I was surprised the increased heartbeat started right after that and then the whole collapse
Four months time frame, interesting
“Repression” !!!!! A cardiologist saying this about Eddie - TIM I JUST WANT TO TALK!!!
Eddie denying the doctor’s diagnosis, looking to Ana twice who says nothing one way or the other, it’s only Christopher that speaks up
Okay thank God that was a dream Athena had, I got so worried for her =(
Bobby teaching Harry to cook is so freaking cute
I seriously want to hit this guy (the rapist) with my car, repeatedly
OMG why is the DA not objecting??? How is that relevant????
Judge that should be stricken from the record!!!! LET ME IN TV SCREEN, LET ME IN!!!! IF THIS DA CAN’T DO HIS JOB, I WILL!!!! ATHENA, I’M COMING!!!! *smacks into screen* DAMMIT
Sue in a leadership role in ATC interesting - LTY226 hmmm…
Oh thank God, the ATC scene made me so freaking nervous
Not surprising Eddie starts to feel woozy seeing Nick have a heart attack
25 million hmmm….
Oh shit here we go, I wondered how this would affect the jails
OH DAMMIT, COME ON!! How did he get away???? - well now we know why we got the summary we did for 5x03, shit
Holy shit, I’m just waiting for Eddie to step up and say “I told you Hildy was the enemy!” Holy crap if he was anxious before, he definitely will be now
Oh Eddie keeping the panic attack secret from Buck….oh Eddie
Omg I hope they move the survivors somewhere safe
“In a heartbeat” - 3 heart attacks, cardiologist, a heart being delivered (I think that’s what they said), hmm…Eddie thinking he might have a heart attack (meaning it’s not the real deal, happening with Ana with him and Christopher, and she remains quiet when Eddie looks over to her, doesn’t speak up at his look, um hmm) - can they make this anymore obvious?
Go get him, Buck! It seems like Protective!Buck may actually be a thing, I’m here for it
These girls are so freaking creepy
“Retrograde”, nice!!!
NO!!!!!!!!!! Son of a….I knew it had to be too easy, dammit, that poor detective
Okay, have no idea what's happening next week but can't wait to see the helicopter scene and eventually the protective!Buck scene with the zoo animals - holy hell what a ride so far!

Thoughts on 4x12
So I finally got around to watching today's episode. These are just some of my raw, unedited thoughts as I was watching and I couldn't help but share because guys we struck GOLD this week!
Aww Buck’s face when he doesn’t get to go up in the helicopter with his man
That’s not poetry, my dude
Why don’t we see Eddie’s face when he calls Taylor Buck’s girlfriend? Hmm, you jealous bro?
Do Chim and Hen not know how news reporting works? You can’t just tell a reporter to stop
Emergency one (tree lady): for gods sake
Emergency two (men fighting with metal detectors): and the boomers are at it again. Also, capitalism at its finest
Seeing serious parallels with 4x06 (montage, mainstream soundtrack, recycled firetruck scene in 11:09)
Emergency # I’ve lost track: an excavator? Really?
UPDATE: omfg
Oh damn an actual fire for once
12:50 OH COME ON THIS IS PURE FLIRTING BETWEEN HUSBANDS
“I already made a deal with Taylor” Eddie’s face is the equivalent of “you’re sleeping on the couch tonight”
Wait they’re at Buck’s house this is turning into an actual plan???
“Okay then I’ll just be over here thinking by myself then go team” HOW IS THIS NOT A JEALOUS HUSBAND?
13:47 Eddie looking to Buck: “babe get up it’s time to hustle the probie”
Hen and Chim know (and I don’t mean the treasure)
Notice how at 15:00 Buddie didn’t need orders from Bobby? Maybe cause two brains put together are better than one, ey?
Eddie baby you’re literally dropping your man into shit
How did this guy get a girlfriend let alone a wife and a girlfriend?
Buck and Taylor better not kiss #bestfriendgoals #notendgame
Omg the water channel
“They brought their gear!” “they brought their med kits!” this is literally kids in trouble with their parents #Bathena
Karen wrote an algorithm Hen what the fuck 😂
EDDIE’S FACE 😂😂😂
Tell me “Taylor and the cameraman who isn’t even here” isn’t a reference for saying fuck off background characters
Buck saying “I don’t know what to do with the point four” is adorable he’s like a puppy
PROBIE 😂
“I’m not doing any more math” has me dead
“Do any of you have a badge and a gun” #motherathena
We seriously got Bathena parents keeping their children in check this whole episode and I am HERE for it
Ya’ll are right Eddie’s face in Buck’s “I don’t trust anyone” is completely different from the rest of the fam
No ship name for Buck and Taylor cause boy is deep in the friend zone. Taylor knows not take what isn’t hers

hey it’s miya again! thanks so much for responding to my previous ask!! i read your meta and it was amazing as always. i really like what you said about how addiction was something athena was aware of but not to a point where he is now inviting her to his meetings. the trust and bond the two of them have only got deeper with that. Following that up with how buck does not tell people his feelings and the level of honesty and vulnerability he let out in eddie’s presence just speaks volumes. there was no looking away like the fact that he looks up into eddie’s eyes and holds his gaze 😭😭 he has grown so much cause we haven’t had a moment like this with buck very clearly lost and trying to make sense of his trauma and it was done so well. love a bobby/buck parallel ❤️
I wanted to get more of your thoughts on if eddie was actually deflecting with the conversation about the shooting. cause to me he answered it so quick but in my mind it’s because the first thing he thought of was buck. if eddie had said “i remember you being in front of me when it happened or i remember falling to the ground and you watching me” that would would have been a shift in tone & kind of revealed a bit to much. eddie is very aware of his feelings for buck and i think with buck dying and then coming back to life (by his hands might i add) those feelings start to become more intensified. he wants to tell buck how he feels but it’s just not the right time ya know but i believe by the end of the season eddie won’t have a choice to tell him cause he can’t spend another minute without letting him know how much he loves him.
My lovely Miya! :D Hello again, so happy to hear from you! *HUGS* And please, you never have to thank me for replying to your ask, I'll always do my best with that! I just apologize if because of my disability, I can't answer too many asks at once, and it takes me more time. But I'm absolutely delighted to hear you enjoyed my 612 meta, thank you SO MUCH for the kind words!
I loved the Bobby/Buck parallels, so very appropriate since they're now acknowledged by both for the father and son they are! And yes, God. The vulnerability Buck is capable of around Eddie because he feels safe with him, it's gonna keep me up at night for several good years, I think... ;_;
Regarding what Eddie says... I'm not sure if he remembers. Yes, I know he answered quickly and averted his eyes, but that feels like a very natural form of behavior for someone remembering a life altering moment. He might remember and not be saying anything about it! I'm just not convinced the show has hinted at it in a manner that's unambiguous. Then again, sometimes shows are intentionally ambiguous because they're deflecting themselves. ;)
One reason why I think maybe full real doesn't remember (beyond the fact that trauma will sometimes do that to you) is that while you're absolutely right and saying "I remember you" would have been a very exposed moment between them, it could have also served to help Buck. Something like... telling him that in Eddie's greatest moment of need, he remembers Buck being there. Eddie knows Buck struggles with feelings of inadequacy, so telling him how instrumental he was during the worst moment of Eddie's life, that could have been very significant. Then again, Eddie might not say it if he thinks there's a way he can help Buck without putting himself too out there. We'll see, but I am very hopeful that one way or another, by the end of the season, we'll get one of them at least canonically knowing how they feel about the other one.
Thank you for this lovely ask, sweetheart! I hope you have a great day and I'm delighted we get to exchange POVs! As always, here's my ask tag. xoxox

911 4x14 - thoughts and rambles
Okay, I just watched the finale of 911 after I managed NOT to get spoiled all day long. I’m still proud of that fact by the way. I wanted to peek at spoilers so badly, but because work was so exceptionally busy I made it work. And I’m so happy that I had no idea what was coming.
I’m not one to write episode reviews or anything like that, but I feel the need to write down some of my rambling thoughts, because this episode really blew me away in many ways. It was like a good fanfic come to life. I have to admit that, when I opened Tumblr, I was a little surprised that, in between the positivity, there was still quite some negativity about this episode. All while I’m sitting here, still crying over that great ending with ‘Skyscraper’. So, let me get these random thoughts out.
Be warned! Spoilers and thoughts on the overall storylines from the episode, different characters and of course relationships between characters after the cut. Mainly Buddie positive relationship thoughts though, because this episode filled me with the Buddie-feels. 😊
1. The episode as a whole felt a little rushed. The sniper storyline wasn't well-developed at all. I think that probably has to do with the fact that they had to shorten the season because of—well, you all know why. Let’s not spoil my happy mood here.
2. Eddie and Buck and all the blood—man, that entire sequence of events with Buck rescuing Eddie was just *chef’s kiss*. And the way he was in shock and shaking when he was talking to Taylor. Such good acting by Oliver! Also, did Taylor call Chris ‘his son’? I mean—what? Even outsiders can see it now. The Buckley-Diaz family vibes are real.
3. Question: How is it that Athena seems to be the only capable police officer that actually does any work on this show? She seems able to do everything: patrolling, investigating, finding evidence without any problem or help, walking into a fire and shooting people… You name it and Athena Grant-Nash will do it. And other police officers just let her as well. Is there no hierarchy in this fictional police force? I love Athena to bits, but this was a bit too much for me, if I’m honest.
4. Maddie! Yes, she’s getting help. Thank God. Listen, I’ve been there, right after child-birth. There was no fluffy pink cloud for me either. Just a lot of greyness. I started talking to someone when I felt it was getting to be too much and it really helped. So hopefully, she’ll get through this eventually. I’m hoping that they won’t brush over it in S5. I want to see her progress.
5. Bathena. Man, those two. Such a strong couple. One of the greatest fictional couples out there. I’ve always liked Bobby. Hell, I started watching 911 because Peter Krause was in it and I used to be obsessed with ‘sports night’ way back when in the nineties. 😊 I just loved how Athena showed up and rescued her man in a direct parallel on how he showed up when she got attacked and he was ready to kill someone to save her. Couple’s goals, I’m telling you.
6. Nia was back! That is all! I loved that so much!
7. Albert wanting to be a firefighter felt a little strange to me, but okay. Good for him I suppose. I admit that I don’t really care about him that much. He’s not a character that really speaks to me.
8. Buck and Christopher. Pffff—THAT scene where Buck broke down and Chris consoled him that Eddie would be fine. I mean, yeah—they really pushed the whole ‘Buck is Chris’ dad’ storyline. And then Eddie went and actually made it official. What can I say? I cried— hard.
9. Carla’s little talk with Buck. So many parallels to last week’s talk with Eddie. I mean, the first thing Buck thinks about is Eddie when he is asked how he’s doing. I’m a firm believer that Carla knows there is something unexplored there, right under the surface. If those dumb boys would just figure it out already.
10. That brings me to all the Buddie. Oh man, this episode soothed my aching Buddie-heart so much. It was like reading a good solid Buddie fic. It was all there, the terror and heartbreak, the fear to lose the other, the ‘you’re not expendable’, the ‘I made you his legal guardian’… all of it.
In the end Buck and Taylor happened (I’m not really surprised there as it was a season finale and 911 likes to end that with happiness for everyone) and Eddie and Ana still seem to be together. At least Buck and Taylor acted like a couple and kissed. Eddie and Ana have this weird dynamic going on. A kiss on the cheek? Really?
I will say this: I didn’t mind Buck and Taylor getting together. Like— at all. It -weirdly enough- didn’t even phase me.
Mostly because I was reeling so hard from the infinitely much more powerful emotional connection that Buck and Eddie displayed. Buck saved Eddie, but in the middle of it Eddie was worried about Buck. Buck was not fine after he delivered Eddie to the hospital. He seemed broken. And then Taylor kissed him and ran off. She later told him ‘You didn’t chase me’ (or something like that) and I’m like— no, he didn’t, because right then Ana called him and he knew this would be about Eddie and Eddie will always be more important. He didn’t run after Taylor. He ran towards Eddie. There's something poetic about that. And then Ana stepped aside, and Eddie looked at him with the biggest most soft heart eyes that I’ve ever seen. He’s never looked like that at Ana. In the last scene, when he told Buck about the guardianship he looked so sure of himself. Then he basically told Buck everything he’s ever wanted and needed to hear. Buck told Taylor earlier that he never felt like he was enough. Well, Buck— Eddie just gave you his entire world (his son). You are more than enough for him.
As a single mother I can attest that it’s very important to think about what you want for your child if anything ever happens to you. You don’t take the decision of guardianship lightly. I’ve been there. I was Eddie. It’s hard to make the right choice. For him to make that choice—to make Buck, his best friend, the legal guardian of his child? That’s incredible.
Combine that with Carla’s question last episode about following his own heart and not Christopher’s. It seems to me that Eddie has seen the light and he’s started to partially follow his heart. He’s still not completely there yet, but if this narrative continues, I can see him breaking up with Ana next season, because he realises that following his heart means following Buck, not Ana. And of course, by then Buck will still be with Taylor and there might be pining. I’m all for that.
There were so many parallels between Buck/Taylor + Eddie/Ana and Buddie. Not to mention the clear parallel between Bathena’s storyline and Buddie’s storyline.
I just— I feel really good about this when it comes to romantic Buddie. Listen, I have nothing against platonic best friends Buddie and if that is your jam, you do you! But, for me, the narrative is clearly pushing us towards a romance. I’m getting some really good slow burn vibes here. So far it feels as if Buddie is still right on track with no signs of slowing down. Now, I don’t have a crystal ball or anything like that so I don’t know what the future will bring and showrunners can always change their minds if they really want to, but –in my humble opinion- there is no reversing this kind of emotional connection. If the showrunners really wanted to stop the ambiguity between Buddie, they could have easily done that in this episode. All they had to do was feature more Buck/Taylor and Eddie/Ana to strengthen their connection towards season 5. Instead they focused on the bond between Buck and Eddie and intertwined them even more in each other's lives. So yeah, personally I feel like this is clear: There is only one way to proceed with the storyline and that is forward.
I’m actually really excited for season 5! A lot more than I thought I was going to be two episodes ago. And now there's Tim with his cryptic little quotes about Buck and Eddie. Another thing to obsess about! YAY! 😊 It's a great feeling to start the hiatus like that.
