Tumgik
Let's see...
In first fifteen minutes we get:
Buck and Eddie working together, no weird energy or separation, they're in sync
Eddie shirtless
Buck asking Eddie what plans he has for the weekend because he found a place to go go-karting in the desert (desert = solo, dry, alone basically which makes you wonder)
The minute dating comes up (Eddie turning down Buck's offer to hang out), Eddie starts covering up/dressing
The minute Eddie mentions he has another date with Marisol, Buck covers up
When Eddie mentions Natalie, Eddie is still buttoning up his shirt
Eddie and Christopher both have dates
Math is mentioned again
Eddie and Marisol are going well (shocker)
Buck has already broken up with Natalia offscreen (having finally realized in character what we all did back in the very ooc last two episodes of season 6) - (my wondering from above is over)
Buck broke up with Natalia because she only wanted to talk about his death and Eddie puts a hand on thee shoulder (from 3x03 - this whole moment is a total callback, even with Eddie looking him in he eye and leaving) and welcomes him back to the living, telling him he was missed
Buck gets that smile that he usually gets around Eddie after Eddie walks out
These partner dynamics back to back: Buddie, Madney, Bathena

You're like a little deranged kitten making a loud meow and extending your little tiny claws, thinking you're a big tiger when really you're so small and so cute. Get fucked? My, that is the nicest thing anyone on here has said to me in a while. Thank you. 😊

Part 2: there was a lot GA scoffing at the idea of Sansa’s political acumen but this scene really shows how clever and skilled she is and it’s not recognised as such. She sussed out Dany’s true feeling on Jon, that she’s a hypocrite and not a liberator only seeking peoples freedom, that the iron throne is her one goal. Sansa figured out in one conversation what Jon took weeks to figure out on Dragonstone and Tyrion and Varys even longer. Sansa clocked it in like a day. True Queen material there
I don't know if this was connected to the previous ask or not but I apologize if not.
The GA really didn't get Sansa's character and I blame D&D for that quite a bit. They tried to bait people to watch by promoting some huge power struggle about to take place between Sansa and Jon, now that he's been made KitN, right before season 7 aired, knowing full well that Jon was a fan favorite. They even had the actors themselves doing their dirty work for them while promoting the new season. So that already planted the seed in several minds of Sansa doesn't want Jon to be King and she's Littlefinger 2.0 and all that stupid bullshit. And they did it not only to get people to come back for the new season but also to get the audience to expect something that they could subvert, which had become their MO at that point. Even though Sansa told Jon and the audience that she's not looking to undermine him, and telling their siblings how much she can't wait for him to come back in so many words, they still spend the whole season trying to convince everyone that Littlefinger is playing her, she wants to be Queen, and she's waiting to betray Jon at any moment she can. So this way in 7x07 they could have the student surpass the teacher and go 'Ha ha' to the audience when Sansa executes Littlefinger. Subvert, subvert, subvert!
And as if that wasn't enough to prove Sansa's political acumen to the GA, to show that she actually has some smarts (in case they missed it all season, from KL as a matter of fact), they not only (purposely) missed the things you mentioned in 8x02, but that she did the exact same thing she did in 7x07 with Littlefinger when she sussed him out. His goal was the IT with her at his side (him really just wanting to use her to get the North). Dany's goal is also the IT and she doesn't intend to let the North go. So not only did Sansa see Cersei-like qualities in 8x01 but now she's seeing Littlefinger-like qualities in 8x02. Which is cemented in 8x04 when Dany pulls the Gendry move. I truly believe had Littlefinger survived, Dany would have executed him eventually because I don't believe she would have been fooled. I think she would've seen right through him. But that's a post for another day.
But yeah, it's a shame the GA discounts the brilliance and talent for political strategy that Sansa was displaying those last two seasons. It was right there in front of their faces but as usual, they purposely ignored it (well, most of them did, some people didn't genuinely see it and that's where my blaming D&D comes in because viewers shouldn't have to do a Rubik's cube to figure out a character and their true motivations, thinking process, and actions) and some brilliant moments for her character and some brilliant writing actually got missed (dismissed). Which I believe does somewhat of a disservice to Dany and Cersei too because they shared that brilliance as well despite any wrong choices they may have made. Cersei miscalculated when it came to Dany and went past a line she couldn't come back from and Dany miscalculated that everyone would want her new world and she crossed a line she couldn't come back from. They both wanted power for different reasons. As we know, Sansa didn't want power, only freedom and the ability to keep her family and herself safe. So it made sense that she was the only Queen in the end and not of the 7K
Like you said, true Queen material right there. I wish more people could gain a better understanding of her character and appreciate the brilliant woman she actually is.

In the book Yigrett and Jon’s relationship is much more dubcon so it’s not hard for me to see how Kit got to that thinking. (Though in the book, I’m not sure Jon IS attracted aggressive women as much as confidence/strength.) I think Sansa is the proverbial balance. Sansa is confident and has learned to assert herself but she also validates Jon as a person, cares for him, protects him while not being afraid to confront him on his mistakes. Thanks for responding!
Anon, I am so sorry. I thought I had responded to all of my asks and yet there yours sat. If you're still around, please accept my deepest apologies.
I confess I have not yet ventured past book 2 so I have no idea how their relationship goes, but I will say it seemed a tiny hint of dubcon in that cave scene in the show, in the beginning but only for a moment. So I can see it for sure. And I think the show played up on Kit's and Rose's natural chemistry to help make it something on its own if that makes sense.
I agree wholeheartedly with you about Sansa and how she regards him and treats him. Ygritte had his back as long as it served her interests. I'm not saying she didn't love him but when he chose something else over her, then it was game on and only her feelings for him made her hesitate before she was going to kill him. And she was going to kill him if Olly hadn't killed her first. Jon's whole reaction in that scene (and Kit's performance) confirmed it I believe.
And the funniest thing is, while Dany and Ygritte are different in some ways, one similarity they share is that it's all about them in the relationship and the minute Jon chooses (or appears to choose) someone (like family) or something else over that, even if it's for the right reason, then Jon's in mortal danger.
Whereas with Sansa, she actually wants to protect him and keep him with the Pack. Yes, she wants safety but not at the cost of any of her family, and she absolutely considers him to be her family. That's why when Sansa antis say all she wanted was power and Dany stans say she only wanted to kill Dany, I just laugh. Because they really don't understand her showverse character and they're looking at it through a tainted lens (their favoritism of Dany or hatred of Sansa). As you said, she asserts herself, sure, but she also respects Jon, validates him, and wants to protect him. She's a very balanced character and a positive for Jon, romantically or not.
And even though I don't know book!Jon, I agree with you and I don't think Jon was attracted to aggressive women in the show either. I think you're right, it was all about confidence and strength.
I hope you have a great weekend, Anon. Sorry again!

Some things to note for this blog
I should have put this up sooner but honestly, I didn't think I needed to, until now. Everything below the cut.
GoT
When I post anything GoT-related, I am talking about the showverse only. This is why I do not include "asoiaf" in the tags of each post. While using the same characters and universe that GRRM created in ASOIAF, Game of Thrones is an adaptation. Which is why we don't see characters like Lady Stoneheart, Val, Gryff, or Dacey Mormont. (I know most of us know this already but I feel the point needs to be reiterated for some...certain stan groups in particular) Same goes for House of the Dragon.
I do post about Daenerys (and will continue to) and I can be critical of her but I still love her. She is actually one of my favorite characters in the show. But while I consider myself a fan of hers, I don't stan her blindly and I can see the mistakes she's made. I will call out her bad behavior while still maintaining my love for the character. I appreciate her dark turn because of the fact that she, as a woman, got to have that arc and make her own choices. It's incredible storytelling that was layered in since season 1 (though the execution of it in the end was botched here and there). Same thing goes for the Targaryens. For example, while I might not be a fan of Daemon, I do appreciate his character and Matt Smith's portrayal.
If I see any ridiculous Dany stan or anti Sansa bs in my travels on here, I'm calling it out. Not specifically to the individual(s), I don't do that, but I do respond to ridiculous claims made about characters, their story arcs, the writing, fandom bs, and the show in general.
SPN
I do love SPN but I am very critical of the series finale. But while being critical of it, I can understand why some decisions were made behind the scenes and it is what it is. It doesn't mean I don't hope that a reboot or continuation down the line won't attempt to fix the mistakes that were made (imho Dean's appearance in the finale of The Winchesters already started that ball rolling in a way).
I have been critical of the Wincest pairing in the past but that has been more about some of the behavior of the shippers rather than about the ship itself. I've also listed why I don't feel comfortable with the ship itself but I also have the attitude of ship-and-let-ship. So I'm not attacking the ship but just stating why I don't care for it while also challenging some of the shippers' assertions of how the show was intentionally going that way for the brothers all along as well as their misunderstandings of Dean and Sam's actual familial relationship.
I am anti John Winchester and will forever be. Any posts I make on this subject is not criticism of Jeffrey Dean Morgan or his portrayal of the character. This is not challenging Jeffrey Dean Morgan's or Jensen Ackles' opinions of the character, but sometimes can be a respectful disagreement (meaning I have a different school of thought on the matter for those who aren't able to grasp this everyday life concept). This doesn't mean I don't acknowledge Dean's, Sam's, and Mary's love for John. While I agree with JDM and Jensen that John did the best he could in that time, he absolutely could have done better and had many opportunities to. Not to mention what was implied that was right underneath the surface of the story the whole time and how it was confirmed starting in season 12.
Imho, the idea of Destiel went canon in the show, not the pairing itself. We only saw Cas' confirmation of his feelings and how it all connected back to Cas' own story line over the years. By Dean not having time to respond one way or the other, I believe the show intended to keep that open-ended and ambiguous. So people can still speculate on his feelings should they so choose (personally, I think Cas was extremely important to Dean, more important than antis feel comfortable acknowledging which is why they consistently do their best to undermine the 15x18 moment and attack anyone who asserts that Destiel is canon).
I am very much pro-Dean (not a stan but a huge fan), pro-Winchesters 2.0 (Dean, Sam, Cas & Jack) or TFW 2.0, pro-Jack, pro-Jack and Cas as family to both Sam and Dean. My posts will usually operate from this stance.
If I see any ridiculous anti Dean, anti Destiel bs, pro-toxic codependency bs in my travels on here, I'm calling it out. Not specifically to the individual(s), I don't do that, but I do respond to ridiculous claims made about characters, their story arcs, the writing, fandom bs, and the show in general.
The Winchesters
I am very critical of The Winchesters but it is not personal criticism of Jensen or Danneel Ackles. I am not critical of it for the sake of being critical or fandom drama; I am looking at it through the same critical storytelling eye I look at everything else. I focus on the story and not anything beyond that. Whatever feuds the fandom drama queens believe are going on between Jensen and Jared, Danneel and Genevieve, Jared and Misha, etc, I am not engaging in any of that nor am I going to allow it to taint my perspective as a viewer.
911
While I have been critical of certain relationships for Buck and Eddie (like BuckTaylor, BuckAli, EddieAna, or EddieShannon for example), I am not completely critical of the female characters themselves nor am I anti them (their characters all served a purpose in the story). Except Abby and that was due to her severe mishandling of Buck. But even then, as long as she stays far away from Buck, I'm good with her and hope she finds her own happiness.
I still believe in the possibility of Buddie but I will admit that the season 6 finale left me dumbfounded, even knowing what was happening bts. So I have not posted as much for this pairing or fandom because I'm waiting to see how season 7 will go.
Speaking of which, I am very critical of the writing of the last two episodes of season 6 especially, not just for Buddie but all of the other characters and relationships as well.
Big Sky
I am very critical of the writing of the last season as well as the push the show made for a certain pairing to happen (Beau x Jenny). It is not criticism of Jensen Ackles or of Katheryn Winnick (I am a fan of both), nor is it criticism of the characters Beau Arlen or Jenny Hoyt (I also love both). I honestly believe Jenny's (and Cassie's) character got shafted in the last season as a bid to stay on the air by the showrunner. And I am very critical of that showrunner and some of the decisions he made that I think sunk the show the final inch over the edge into oblivion.
Celebrities/Actors
While I am a fan of Jensen Ackles's career and try to be supportive, this is not a stan blog. I will not be posting about Jensen's personal exploits (outside of FBBC and a social media post here and there possibly), any gossip/rumors surrounding Jensen, anything about his marriage to Danneel, etc.
I will not be posting anything about Danneel Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Misha Collins, etc.
I only post about people I admire and it's usually in relation to their acting and/or portrayals, or directing (like Miguel Sapochnik for example). I appreciate talent where I see it.

Gotta be honest, I was stoked for The Ones Who Live and I've been excitedly waiting for the first episode to drop. While I love both Rick and Michonne, separate and together (and Andy and Danai), and I love to explore a new aspect of this world, I have to ask what was that?
Maybe I'm spoiled by Dead City (I haven't seen Daryl Dixon yet but I plan to) and the writing on that show and that world, but this left me going "uh...Why does this feel like a fanfic spinoff instead of an exciting new chapter like Dead City did?" Perhaps I need to wait for the rest of the episodes to drop before I form an opinion but I will say I was not happy to see Scott Gimple so involved. He ruined Fear for me (we can solely blame the showrunners all we want but Scott was the one behind them and every decision they made). Idk if he's involved in the Daryl show (I sincerely hope not) and he better come nowhere near Dead City.
I hope this show gets better as it goes on. I do like Okafor (hope I'm spelling that right) and the actor who plays him. I liked the scene between him and Rick (where Rick started to feel like Rick again to me for a minute). But I just don't know. I'm wary of any type of hope where Gimple's involved.
---------------------
This week on the series of People Who Shouldn't Come Anywhere Near Story Telling:
I wrote the above portion while watching the first episode and told myself I was rushing to judgement, that I should give the show a chance. Then I saw the end of that episode and then the next one and I just...
There was such potential with this and it got ruined. I feel bad saying it because of Andy and Danai but Gimple ruined it all. As per usual.

It amazes me that every single day on this hellsite Destiel shippers are told that they're misreading certain scenes between Dean and Cas in the show but when it comes to genuine brotherly/familial moments between Dean and Sam like the barn scene in the finale, it's okay for Wincest shippers to misinterpret Dean telling Sam to tell him it's okay (meaning to leave) as Sam was telling Dean it was okay with him and Dean being in a romantic and sexual relationship the last 15 years? That never happened? Really?

When asked why some people didn't like the immediate enemies vibe Dany and Sansa had upon meeting in the show:
Sansa Stans: "Because while Sansa could tell what Dany really was, it was a little out of character for her to show immediate and open animosity to the tyrant-in-the-making. It also sets up two strong powerful women against each other that could have been handled differently."
Dany Stans: "Sansa sucks. Dany pretty. Who cares about food? Shut up, Sansa."

It's 2024 and I'm still seeing Dany stans out there making Dany defense posts for the show. "It's bad writing!" "She would never do anything that bad ever!" "She's still alive in the books!" "She has literally never done anything wrong in her life ever!" And I'm like:
Tumblr media
Like stan who you're gonna stan and enjoy the story in the books, sure. But Dany's showverse character DID do bad things. Dany's showverse character DID something majorly wrong and did not make the best choices. Dany's showverse character DID die. And it is not bad writing that A) her character got an ending that you didn't like but it made sense for her story & B) that it followed the trajectory of her story that has been set up from the beginning of the show. If it wasn't there then I'd agree with you but it was. Dany was always going to go dark. Get over it. The only bad writing that happened as far as she was concerned was the rushing of her dark turn, the finale throne room scene dialogue (which was put in there because Emilia asked for it), and the execution of it. That's it.
It's been almost five years, people. As people get told about Jon and Sansa and Cersei all the time, the show is over. Stop with the constant stream of excuses and bs already and just accept it. Enjoy the books and write your fanfics for the show. Of course, she's still alive in the books! They're not finished yet and that's her bookverse character. Look up the definition of the word adaptation and then google how books get adapted to the TV screen if you must. But stop saying it was bad writing. Dany going dark was there from the first freaking episode and GRRM was involved! So come on already. Please stop putting this shit in the Dany tag. You make it so hard for the rest of us who enjoy(ed) Dany's showverse character and Emilia's brilliant performance.

Soooo they just decided to casually promote The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2: The Book of Carol during the first episode of the new Richonne show? Not promote season 1 over on AMC+? Not promote Dead City? Or both?
...uh huh

I don't think it's a coincidence that in this latest episode of SVU Olivia finds and saves the person she's looking for, from a past case, someone that she thought she lost. And Elliot finds and loses the person he's looking for, from a past case, someone that he thought he saved.
No coincidence.

I don't know who needs to hear this but an actor's opinion, while valid, is not the end all be all for a show or film, and it doesn't dictate the story that was actually shown on screen/made it to air.
Editors exist for a reason and it's not just to chop up scenes or layer in the music. Jensen himself has talked about post-production and how it can be considered another draft of the script due to all of the decisions/changes being made during that process. They are just as surprised by the final product as we are.
And let's not forget that Kit hadn't even seen the final season until recently, Jensen hadn't seen 15x18 until it aired (and he saw all of the reactions for it), and does anyone know if Emilia watched the final season at all?
Whatever may have been in the shooting script, whatever they may have discussed with the showrunners/writers/directors/producers, they have no say on what the final product actually is. Their opinions are valid as are all of ours, but we need to stop putting so much weight into what they have to say. We can give them a bit more since they played the roles and worked behind the scenes, but we shouldn't be living or dying by what they're saying. Ship who you want to ship, love who you want to love, don't let what the actors say affect that (i.e. 9-1-1: Ronen saying Buddie are only brothers to him, Cocoa saying Buddie wasn't going to happen, & Arielle saying Lucy was going to be a viable love interest for Buck for example), and look at the final product.
The final product is what you see on your screens. No matter what anyone tries to tell you or whatever actors have to say. That's it.

Personally, I think it's hilarious that Jensen mentioned this last con that Elwood texts him from the editing room, asking if he meant to do something in a take which he says maybe not sure, then Elwood says it's brilliant and they're going to use it. Considering that Elwood just gave us the whole sales pitch on how Beau has feelings for Jenny and they still used takes where Beau looks bored around her, isn't looking at her (especially when Cassie and Carla are around), and doesn't seem interested at all.
Elwood, do you know how to successfully craft a slow burn love story (since that's what you turned this show into, which is not why David E. Kelly worked to bring this show to the air btw, if it was we would have seen hints of that in season 1 and not this recycled nonsense from season 2)
The fact that in this interview Elwood has to explain how Beau is allegedly feeling should tell you all you need to know about how badly the writing is coming across. A lot of people hate on D&D for the GoT ending, on Andrew Dabb and his team for the SPN ending, but those are actually decent writers and much better showrunners compared to this guy. Holy crap.

Sometimes I just can't help but shake my head when I see the future direction of TV writing when I read interviews like I did after the finale with Elwood and Jensen.
In what world would Beau not follow Emily? Regardless of lingering feelings for Carla or not? He followed her up to Montana, he stayed for her, why wouldn't he go back to Houston? Especially after what she's just been through and how he almost lost her? After we saw his strong reactions (understandable) when she was taken and how hard he worked to get her back? To the point where Jenny had to insert herself between him and Sunny in one scene? But now all of a sudden he's staying for the cocky self-absorbed blonde he might be banging OVER his daughter? For real? (don't get me wrong, I love Katheryn and Jenny so it hurts to see what they reduced her character to this season over a guy and a romance the show was forcing down our throats rather than focus on the two strong female lead characters that had been the heart of the show this entire time, they could have still done that AND told Beau's story)
So even further evidence that Elwood (and his writing team apparently) aren't actually developing a story in the show; they're doing a version of "Write Your Own Adventure", allowing everyone from the actors to the fans on social media decide how his story is going to progress.
It's one thing to take feedback and especially listen to viewer feedback. It's another thing to collaborate with your actors. It's a whole other thing when you allow them to write your story and do your job for you. Seriously, this guy is no better than that random fanfiction writer who allows what people say in reviews at the end of the chapter to determine what happens in the next chapter even if it doesn't make sense for the story they're telling.
This crap is so frustrating sometimes. Glad I stopped watching, 3x10 was my last episode.

So...just watched both crossover finales for SVU and OC.
I have mixed emotions. On one hand, it was nice to get the old groove of Benson and Stabler working together again. On the other hand, I want to look at the shows' writing teams & Graziano and go "Wtf?"
Let me see if I've got this straight... Rollins exited the show and Giddish is no longer a series regular, she left SVU to take a job as a professor, and we had a huge emotional farewell for her, her story was tied up nicely with her and Carisi getting married, etc...only for her not to deny Olivia's assessment of "You miss it, don't you?" And her confirming it by saying she loves her students but it's not what she thought it would be basically. We see that she's pregnant, something Carisi had told Benson a couple of episodes ago, and we also see Carisi becoming increasingly worried about impending fatherhood. I seriously doubt Kelli is coming back to the show but they have Muncey leave and STILL have this conversation happen between Benson and Rollins when it wasn't needed? It nullifies her emotional farewell to the show and all of the happiness fans had for her endgame (her marriage, her kids, her new career) and dilutes the reason for the conflict she initially had with Benson over her leaving.
And then Muncey leaving... Perhaps the actress Molly Burnett had another project, I'm not really sure what happened there. But we have yet ANOTHER spot to be filled on SVU and now also OC as well? I'm all for rotating new faces and stories but Muncey wasn't even here for a year. Should I expect Bruno to go somewhere in the beginning of the next season? Hard to maintain any emotional investment into these characters if they're just going to have short stints like this. TV is not the movies. TV characters stories' are meant to develop over time, that's the medium and type of story telling it has.
Speaking of which, WTF was that with Jamie? Again, maybe the actor Brent Antonello had another project on board, but what a brutal ending!!! And then to have the sociopath saved on top of it??? Also, why build up the relationship between him and Jet all season only to have it end in a phone call ILY that was one-sided due to him not returning the sentiment and that's the last thing he "says" to her ever?
And no goodbye convo between Benson and Muncey? Or Jamie and Stabler? Or even Velasco and Muncey really? He helps her carry her stuff to her car? And just a hug from Fin? That's it? Jamie, who was a practical mirror for Stabler? And while Benson and Jamie both getting hurt might be a parallel, again Jamie was a mirror for Stabler so how does Jamie not saying the ILY to Jet parallel? This just didn't make any sense to me.
And literally last episode, Benson and Stabler say that the almost kiss wasn't the right moment between them, but now they're just "partners"? He wants her to find her way to happiness? Okay, I can get behind that but then you have her watching after him like that? What? And Stabler already told Benson he loved her, so she knows this already, but when he says he was worried when he couldn't see and heard the shot...she tells him how terrible it must have been for him because it brings back memories about Kathy? I'm not saying she's wrong but make it make sense, people. D-E-V-E-L-O-P-M-E-N-T
Which we know they've thrown into the mix already because he tells Benson he's going on a job and she says "Thank you for telling me this time." So wtf was all the rest of this?
Idk if this was Graziano or what, but this episode single-handedly dismantled the Jamie and Jet relationship, the Velasco and Muncey relationship, and yep, the Bensler relationship. Not to mention they sidelined the Bell and Fin dynamic that we should have gotten to see more of.
And I'm going to say it, when is that Chief going to take a hike? Don't get me wrong, I like the actor, but no way in hell has his character gotten any development since he started deferring to Benson and working on himself. It's almost as if his behavior in this SVU finale undid all of that development and turned him into the asshole boss Benson battled with when he replaced Chief Garland (not that I understood why he and Kat were exited from the show back then either, especially when both actors said it was not their choice to leave the show).
I know OC has had a very high turnover for showrunners since Ilene and that has unfortunately sometimes been shown in the writing. But these two finales felt way off, from everything both shows have been building this past season (and even a little before that).
So I say to Graziano - wtf is going on?

Buddie and Destiel is good ol' rate baiting or whatever the official term is.
Villaneve and Clexa were made canon and integral to both characters of each relationship.
Buddie had subtext in season 2 (starting with 2x04). Fuffy was pure subtext (which is why Whedon's Nevers' TruePenance is pure queerbaiting - after Fuffy he knew what he was doing). Brachel featured subtext but it's very slight compared to the previous examples.
Any questions?
