• except not entirely

• you were a couple of years older than most of your class

• America, Fiji, Asia you had become a full granola-girl, travel fiend for a couple of years

• hiking and surfing through the days, partying with your hostel friends through the night

• you were the textbook “trying to discover myself” gap-year kid

• yes, you even came home with a pair of those classic baggy trousers plastered with elephants

•although things went a little better for you considering the internet fame your YouTube doc got you (but we’ll get back to that)

• with two younger siblings (twins) you were blunt, and impatient

• but ultimately cared far more about others than you did yourself

• they were your best friends

• elys was renowned for his practical jokes and getting in trouble that only you could get him out of

• enya was the perfect, youngest child, spoilt in just the right way

• always encouraging you to let her practice her makeup skills or plant pretty flowers in the garden

• especially when your mum died, they were the only ones able to get you out of bed

• or failing that at least encourage a smile to your face

• specially considering the lacklustre relationship you had with your dad… who wasn’t really your dad

• your bio-father split before you were born so at 8 you were introduced to your new stepdad

• he was your sibling's father though so you always felt out of the loop, especially once your mum was gone

• growing up in a football family you were their biggest fan when they progressed from grassroots to academy and academy to first team

• attending every game clad in blue with a painted face, number 1 soccer mom to the max

• you would do anything for them

• the biggest people pleaser

• even if it meant catching a flight to a homophobic country to watch your brother's world cup debut

• just a wounded soul who’s afraid to disappoint

• absolutely underestimate your worth

• just trying to blend into the background

• despite being a secret slut for attention and craving someone to care for you for once

• you’d portray the perfect child to your family so they assume you’re a rebel kid really

• but you felt pretty average growing up

• you were adored in your hometown, always helping the elderly with their grocery shopping and the kids with their homework

• a babysitter and a tutor

• a football coach too

• you played as a kid, much like your siblings

• but the teenage depression when your mum died meant you lost all character and quit all hobbies

• at least for a couple of years

• alonely kid in high school, didn’t drink before you were of age, never went to a school party, or hung out smoking in a field

• always followed the rules at school, middle-of-the-road type of student, not memorable for being too good or too bad

• you were a classic 90’s kid except you refused to let the era go

• as a kid, your mum’s camcorder was on you always

• you loved filming everything and always forced your siblings into being the stars

• which was especially easy when it was their football skills you were showing off

• when you got older you filmed your travels, mainly to send back home but actually gained some traction online

• and then during covid when you and the twins resorted to your roots

• it turns out a YouTube series about two of Chelsea and England’s up-and-coming stars actually does pretty well

• despite being a film student graduate you had no intentions of following your peers to Hollywood or the BBC

• it was your sister who secured you a job with Chelsea

• a big surprise at Christmas when Elys unveiled a new camera and Enya followed up with a contract to start in the summer

• somehow you had never met any of the other Chelsea players, always rushing off to travel home after watching the game in the stands

Cleo slowly came to her senses; she remembered being at Tidmouth sheds with everyone and hearing Percy arrive then, nothing.

As her vision began to clear, Cleo could see her brothers standing over her.

"I think she's coming too, everyone give her some room." Came the voice of Sir Topham Hatt.

"Darius, what happened"? Cleo asked.

"You got a bit over excited and passed out." Darius said.

"A bit? Bro she was a rocket ship fueled with sugar that failed to launch." Romeo retorted.

"Not now Romes." Darius warned.

"Over excited? About what"? Cleo asked confused.

"I'm afraid it was my fault my dear." Came a voice.

Wendell cautiously puffed up towards the three siblings.

"Wendell." Cleo said shocked.

"Hello young Cleo, sorry to have caused you to pass out. Are you alright"? Wendell asked.

"Yes, yes I'm fine but, how are you alive and where have you been"? Cleo asked surprised.

Wendell smiled.

"It's a long story my dear, why don't I tell you all about it during teatime? Guessing on how much time has passed this is Tidmouth if I'm correct"? Wendell asked.

"Yes, this is Tidmouth sheds, it's been here for a very long time." Percy piped in.

The silly engine laughed.

"My goodness, Tidmouth sheds is considered old now?! I remember when Ethan drew up the first draft for this place, poor man didn't know how many engines it should house or how spacious the berths should be." Wendell remembered.

He looked over to Gordon, Flying Scotsman, and Spencer.

"But I can see he made the right choice. By the Arc it's amazing how large the new generation of engines have become"! Wendell said astonished.

Gordon grinned with pride.

"Biggest and best, and we pull the express"! Gordon boasted.

"Except when you fall into a ditch." Snickered James.

"And lose your dome." Continued Henry.

"Or need my help getting up your hill." Added Edward.

Gordon blushed out of embarrassment and being crossed; he wasn't expecting Edward to join in on the teasing.

Wendell held back a chuckle.

"No hard feelings my friend, we all get into our mishaps. Why do you think they call me the silly engine"? Wendell grinned.

By teatime, Patty had arrived with some baked goods and tea for the engine crews and her friends. Patty was amazed to see Wendell in the steel and steam, Romeo invited her to stay so the young baker could hear the silly old engine speak.

"So, Wendell I have to ask, what was life back then for you and Dinah? Tidmouth sheds didn't exist back then, so I'm guessing things were probably pretty wild back then"? Romeo asked.

"In a way it was, but it was more of an organized chaos. Before the realms were separated, Ethan and the other controllers had hardly any say on how the railroads were run. Instead, we were commanded by the overseers, and they were in control of everything. Where the engines were allowed to go, which one would pull which train, when we were allowed breaks and for how long." Wendell answered.

"That sounds horrible! Why didn't you and the other engines use your magic to fight back against these overseers"? Thomas asked.

"Well, back then we didn't have magic." Wendell revealed.

Everyone in the sheds gasped in shock.

"No magic?! Then how in the name of Sodor did we rebel against these overseers or are even sentient for that matter"? Scotsman asked bewildered.

"Sodor does provide its own magic, enough for us to be sentient, but we engines were unable to utilize Sodor's magic in such a way like the overseers could. It wasn't until the magic railroad was built that the engines finally had access to magic." Wendell explained.

Cleo was busy writing down what Wendell said into her notes, meanwhile Romeo had a question to ask.

"So, the magic railroad didn't just appear out of nowhere and with it the engines of Sodor could finally use magic and use it to defend themselves against these overseers. Then, who built the magic railroad and who or what split Sodor off the rest of the world"? Romeo asked.

"The magic railroad was constructed by the king and queen of Sodor of course"! Wendell peeped.

"Huh"? Everyone responded in confusion.

"Well, that is how Dinah refers to them. I forgot what their actual names were, but I do remember our interactions. We would see them around Sodor from time to time and the two seemed to have some influence in curbing the overseers abuse towards the engines for the better. Anyway, one day they approached us with a proposal. They would construct a railway capable of giving engines magic while Dinah and I would be placed as the magic railroad's protectors and use our new found magic to reform the railway to be an inclusive and friendly place for all. As for the realms splitting, things got very heated between the overseers and the island of Sodor, so on that fateful night the overseers attacked the island in an attempt to have full control of it." Wendell told.

Everyone was silent, what they heard was horrifying. How could anyone attack Sodor and its residents? For what reason did these overseers feel the need to take over the entire island when they already had so much control over Sodor already? Meanwhile, Wendell removed his headlamp in the same manner a person would remove a hat at place it over their heart.

"In an attempt to save everyone, the king and queen sacrificed themselves by using every ounce of magic they had to split the realms and separate the enraged overseers from Sodor, thus saving all of us " Wendell said solemnly.

Sag Moon through houses

This placement is hype friend energy. Having a sagittarius moon friend means you will get endless support and positive vibes from them no matter what crazy shit you do. The Past Doesn’t Die Ch. 2

Summary: Narinder grapples with what he just saw.

Narinder shoots up out of bed. His heart is pounding, and he looks around. But there is nothing there. He is in his hut. It was a nightmare. Only a nightmare. Yet, it felt so real.

He sits on his bed, feeling his pulse slow down. Memories of the dream swirl around in his mind. Staying here in his hut was unbearable. He gets out of bed and heads out.

There isn’t anywhere he can really go. At night, the cult grounds are pretty much dead, but anywhere is better than his own head.

Thankfully, the cult grounds are well decorated. That’s something that the Lamb took a lot of pride in. These decorations helps take his mind off of the nightmare.

Four decorations in particular caught Narinder’s eye. They were trophies that the Lamb had made after killing the Bishops. Each of their crowns sat upon a pedestal. Typically, he avoided these trophies. Tonight, he felt drawn to them.

He walks over to the trophies, and simply stares at them. He could feel the crowns staring back at him. Though his siblings have long since died, Narinder feels as though they are judging him. “Hello, everyone.” He says to the crowns. Though he knows that his siblings can’t hear him, he needs to talk to them, and this is the best he can do.

“I’m sorry for… well everything. I shouldn’t have sworn revenge. I shouldn’t have rebelled against the Old Faith, but I felt that there was a better way to do things. Now, I know that my better way was still quite awful.” Narinder feels the urge to look at the ground, but instead he forces himself to look up at the crowns.

“Every single day, I wish things had gone differently. I wish that we were still together as family. It’s my fault that we are apart today. Everything is my fault.” Narinder falls to his knees and tears start to form in his eyes.

He sat there for a few moments stewing in his sorrow. “Narinder?” A voice calls out to him. “What are you doing up so late?”

Narinder knows that voice well. It was the Lamb. He refuses to let them see that he’s crying. He quickly wipes the tears from his eyes. “I was having trouble sleeping.” He says. “Even after the past few decades, its still been quite an adjustment.”

“Narinder…” The Lamb says his name with a strain in their voice. “Please turn around and look at me.”

Narinder hopes that he did a well enough job of wiping the tears off his face. He turns around to look at the Lamb. The expression on their face was all Narinder needs to know that he failed.

The Lamb put their hand on his face. “Oh, Narinder. What’s wrong?”

Narinder takes a step back. “Nothing is wrong.” He says. “I’m fine.”

“Are you sure?” The Lamb asks. “You don’t seem fine.”

“I promise you. I am fine.” Narinder growls.

The Lamb crosses their arms. “Look, I’ve known you for over a century. I know when there’s something wrong with you.”

“I don’t understand why you’re so nice to me!” Narinder explodes.

The Lamb is taken aback. “What? Why wouldn’t I be nice to you?” They ask.

“Because of awful I have been to you. For crying out loud I was going to sacrifice you!” Narinder shouts.

The Lamb opens their mouth to say something, but Narinder keeps talking. “And I have been horrible to everyone else. I have been horrible to Ratau, Aym, Baal, Forneus, and all the past vessels! And I was horrible to those I cared about! Because of me my siblings are dead!”

The Lamb grips Narinder’s shoulders and looks deeply into his eyes. “Narinder. Listen to me. You didn’t kill them. I did.”

“You would have never killed them if I hadn’t forced your hand.” Narinder cries out.

“I would have killed them on my own. They’re the ones who ordered the death of me and everyone I ever knew. I lost my mother, my father, my girlfriend, and so many others because of them.” The Lamb says.

“It was a prophecy about me that caused your kin to be slaughtered. Why haven’t you tried to kill me?” Narinder asks.

The Lamb stands there for a moment flabbergasted. “I did try to kill you!” They shout.

“And yet you didn’t! Why? Why spare me after all I’ve put you through?!” Narinder asks.

“I don’t know. I guess you just looked pathetic!” The Lamb says.

Narinder puts his hand on his chest. “Pathetic?!” He asks.

“Yes, pathetic. After that whole thing where your face opened up and your eyes flew out, seeing you so small it reminded me that we were one in the same. Though you had become quite monstrous, you were just another Red Crown bearer. Same as I am now, and same as Ratau once was.” They say.

Narinder looks at the ground. “I wasn’t just another Red Crown bearer; I was THE Red Crown bearer.” He grumbles.

“Do you ever miss wearing the Red Crown?” The Lamb asks.

“Sometimes.” Narinder says. “Sometimes, I wish everything had gone to plan, but there are so many things here that I would miss. Chatting with the others, or quiet moments tending to the farm. Most of all, I think I would miss being here with you.”

The Lamb blushes. “Do you mean that?” They ask.

Narinder takes the Lamb’s hand. “Of course, I do. I’m thankful that I met you. When I think about what could have been had I succeeded in my plan I realize that I would have been terribly lonely. I would have ruled the world, but all that power would have meant nothing.”

He smiles gently. “There isn’t a day that goes by where I’m not grateful that you chose to fight me on that fateful day.”

“I always thought you hated me for deposing you.” The Lamb says.

“At first, I did hate you. I hated you more than anything, but I found that you’re so wonderful that it’s impossible to hate you for long.” Narinder says.

The Lamb is silent. Narinder thinks that he might have messed up. That the Lamb would hate him for what he said.

Then the Lamb pulls him into a kiss. The kiss is so warm and pleasant. If it lasted for an eternity, it would be too short.

The Lamb pulls away first. Now, it is Narinder’s turn to be speechless. The Lamb blushes. “Sorry, I don’t know why I just did that.”

“No, no. It’s okay” Narinder says. “That was actually really nice. It’s the first time I’ve been kissed in over a millennium. If you don’t mind, can we do it again?”

The Lamb smiles in a way that melts Narinder’s heart. “Alright” and they pull him into another kiss.

This kiss is just as pleasant and warm as the first one. With this kiss Narinder felt more alive than he ever had before.

Narinder is almost disappointed when the kiss is over, but he can’t get the dopey smile off his face. The Lamb can’t stop smiling too.

Narinder takes the Lamb’s hand in his, “Lamb, I love you so much.”

“I love you too, Nari.” They reply. The sky above them starts to brighten as the sun rises.

By the way, now that the brainrot is getting sparked again, I have two possible backstory ideas for Mas, how he ended up being so influential, yet such a coward and obedient, plus greedy for power individual.

In the first scenario, Mas grows up in a very rich noble family, and he grows up sheltered, with a very conservative and greedy father, and a docile mother that follows her husband's beliefs. He is not allowed to make friends other than kids his status, or behave outside of the etiquette the rich follow. He does not develop like an average child. He has a phase where he rebels, but gets grounded for it. At a point in his life when he's still young, he gets to know an adviser from Coruscant who becomes his mentor and inspiration to get into politics. He moves to Coruscant, leaving his rather unpleasant past behind him, and starts his journey as a young Senator representing his home planet that voted for him and his justice oriented values. But as time progressed, his unresolved trauma became his shadow and started acting as corrupted as his father was, believing he was right at the end, and decided that the only way to thrive is to leave idealism behind, be cynical and always do what's best for your skin. Around that time, he met Palatine, who looked like his perfect opportunity to get behind a patron, as long as he'd blindly follow him. I had actually started writing this story, you might have come across it, but I would totally do some changes to it, especially the more accurate representation of Champala.

More recently I have had another such scenario in my mind, which is quite opposite of the first. In this one, Mas grows up in a poor neighborhood in Tidros. A rare kind of neighborhood, especially because Champala is such a just planet, but every place has its sewer. His single mother raised him (I'm contemplating whether I should give him siblings or not). She was working as much as she could to ensure they could survive, and as a result, she never spent much time with her son. Mas started spending a lot of time in the streets as soon as he developed his lungs and limbs, and met with the other few street rats of his neighbourhood, creating something like a gang. The more he aged, the more rebellious he turned, spending a lot of nights partying long, getting game due to his tall horns which people loved seeing, vandalising and sabotaging richer people's properties whenever he found the opportunity to do so. At a point he started getting interested in activism and making his voice stand out for the political rights of people his class. To get the attention of the higher ups, he thought of a plan to sabotage the tourism of Tidros and create a viscous cycle of a destroyed economy in the capital city. To achieve that, he gained the trust of some thugs on and off world, to cut out the supplies going to hotels, beach bars, cruise ships, restaurants, or even sabotaging flights to Champala. During that time he was managing most of the operation and it felt good being recognised and a leader, being in control. Which ironically transformed him into the very thing he swore to destroy, a mindless rich man in the later years of his life, when he exploited the power and recognition he gained during his services to justice.

It was just the four of you wasn't it? Your twin sister, your mom, and your grandmother. Not once did it ever bother you that you lived in a household ran by women, you learned to adore their kindness, their patience, and the way, even if for a short while, it was a home overrun by laughter and love.

But nothing good truly lasts does it? As you grew up, you were always the more reserved twin, the one that had to be protected and your sister always would. she was sunshine and joy, rampant with energy and always the most adventurous of this sibling duo. I remember watching you admire that quality, wishing you could stand up for yourself, use your own voice, but you never did.

A father figure is something you never knew, he was never in the picture, you were the only man of the house as they say. It wasn't until one night you stayed up playing video games that you were alerted to a knocking on your door, and a man in uniform told you, your sister wasn't coming back. From something as seemingly harmless as a joint but it had been laced with something else, something stronger.

Your home felt the shock, and you saw your own mother dig herself into a hole. Slowly you saw her crumble before your very eyes, and the loving woman you knew became nothing more than a husk of her former self. And just like your sister, one night, she too was gone in an all too similar way.

Now it's just you and your grandmother, and I can see you still carry those scars deep within you. Maybe that's why you became a spokesperson for support groups, you want to see people get help so that they don't fall prey to the same thing your family did.

You followed your passions and got a degree I see, even landed a monumentally well paying job, and you take care of your aging grandmother, the only family you have left. It's sweet, but I know you feel lonely, will you ever wipe away that fake smile, who knows? Sweet boy.

Sunday Snippet

Today was @writerscornercafe August mass sprint so I figured I would share a snippet! I was originally going to work on my vampire fic and my brain said no <3 so I switched to a fic that’s supposed to be for warm up and my brain said maybe <3 So this is from a fic I’m still not sure if I will finish but I’m having a good time. It’s a poly fic featuring Harry/OFC/Louis.

Lennon dropped her phone in her lap and ran her hands over her face. She wanted to scream or punch something. She was furious that her mother couldn’t get her shit together. She was angry that she couldn’t help her siblings get away. She felt guilty she was an ocean away and couldn’t do more to help them than she was. It felt like a never-ending cycle, one she tried desperately to escape when she moved out, but she wasn’t sure if she ever would. Not while her siblings were still in her mother’s care.

Before she got up, she texted Kenzie about the rent and reassured her she would cover Jewel’s portion. Lennon wiped her eyes and finally got up. Originally, she was going to stop by the bookstore she knew was around the corner but all she wanted was to go back to her apartment, watch 10 Things I Hate About You and cry. She did her best to gather herself as she walked the long way around the park- the last thing she wanted to do was cry on the tube. She hoped by taking the long way around would help her calm down. That was of course until she nearly tripped over a soccer ball that came out of nowhere.

“Fuck, sorry love! Are you okay?”

Lennon straightened her bags and looked up at the stranger, her heart dropping again at the sight of Louis Tomlinson in front of her.

“Louis, hello. Yes, I’m okay.”

“Lennon,” Louis grinned. “How are you love?”

Lennon accepted Louis’ hug quickly and hoped he hadn’t noticed how upset she was, “I’m good, thanks. How are you?”

“Good, yeah. I’m just having a kickabout with some friends. What are you doing here?”

Lennon glanced at the field to their left and noticed a small group of guys standing around and a few girls further away, giggling and staring at them.

“I had a picnic with some friends, I’m on my way home now.”

“We’re going to a pub after this, you should come!”

“Oh,” Lennon felt herself blushing. “I don’t drink but thank you and I really should be getting home.”

“Me either, actually. The lads do though, and I could crave a good pub burger,” Louis laughed. “But alright, I’ll leave you be. We should get together for dinner this week though. Here, let me get your number.”

Lennon was so shocked that Louis Tomlinson was asking for her number that she gave it without a second thought. Without worrying about the implications, without worrying what her bosses at work would say. Suddenly, Louis had her number with the intention of getting together for dinner.

“I’ll text you later in the week, alright love? Be safe getting home.”

“Thank you, Louis. Have a good night.”

Lennon walked away feeling a wide array of emotions that she didn’t know how to process. She desperately needed that movie and a cry, maybe even some ice cream to top it all off.

re your post about the dif ways the blacks tried to meet/rebel against/avoid their families expectations and some of them were driven to insanity because of it:

as I’ve talked about a thousand times I hardcore hc sirius as bipolar and seeing as that kinda thing is inherited it’s v likely a lot of his family members had the same if not similar disorder, esp bc of inbreeding

so combining that with all you said in your post, I think it’s very easy for all of those pressures and terrible family ideals plus mental illness to push bella and walburga into insanity

and then that makes me think about narcissa and sirius specifically watching that. narcissa doing her best to follow the rules partly out of fear that not doing so would crush her. the hyper-strict control kids with mentally ill parents exert over their own lives. and then sirius also seeing that and being terrified he was going to end up like them - not just their morals and darkness, but their insanity. in my experience at least you’re always aware of that danger within you when you have a personality disorder, even if you can’t put it into words. I think he saw his mother, saw bella, and was scared of that happening to him, just as much as he wanted to get away from whatever level of abuse was directed towards him

so like...this is purely headcanon area now, right? because i don't think it's actually possible to diagnose a fictional character, at least not with the little information we have. so. putting this out as a disclaimer.

i think that with the Blacks, they do have some kind of mental illness running in the family, more predominantly in women (like it can be clearly seen in Bellatrix or Walburga, pushed to the extreme by Azkaban for the first and grief over losing her sons and husband for the second), but also in men, which could include Sirius.

now... i don't want to say anything about diagnosis because i am not familiar enough with any mental illness except for PTSD. so it's foreign territory for me - i think this is where you could possibly provide some insight? whether it's the same illness (bdp) for them all, or it could be some different variants?

if we push off the assumption that the Wizarding World does not really deal with mental illness unless it's an extreme version of it (like the Longbottoms), especially in the 70's, then they are probably all undiagnosed either way, which makes it worse - it's something that's not acknowledged or talked about in their society, and when muggle borns try to bring that up, it's like a tabboo.

I think that Narcissa and Regulus (both being the younger, softer, more sensitive siblings) felt that on some kind of unconscious level – they never knew what it is and never knew to put a name to it, but they felt subconsciously that the occasional anger outbursts and episodes are more than them just being difficult, that they don’t really control it.

So unlike Sirius and Andromeda, who I think always took that as a personal attack and tried to stand up to that, I think Reg and Cissy took a quieter approach (don’t provoke the angry bear) and kind of circled around them like “yes mother you’re right he’s a disgrace, now give me that glass it’s your fourth for the day” and “I know Bella, we will show him later, I promise, let’s just go take a cold shower first alright love?”

so like...they know their behavior is wrong. and they want to help. but they don't know how to. and they don't know what's wrong. so they're stuck justifying their siblings/parents to everyone around them like "yeah i know it's fucked up but she doesn't mean it, she can't help it" and they don't know how to explain it, because they don't understand what it is, they just feel that something is wrong. so they can't bring themselves to leave no matter what.

and it's all just really heartbreaking.

and i think that maybe, when Andromeda married Ted (maybe his muggle parents were therapists, it's a hc i've been entertaining, which is why he's so calm and understanding and Andy is drawn to that), and after Sirius leaves, when he meets him, they talk and Ted is like... that has a name in the muggle world. it's treatable. there's nothing wrong with you.

and it's all just... a lot. i have some snippets here and there in my drafts exploring this. i would really love your input on this because you seem to be much more knowledgeable than me in this department.

I have not watched any space battles in the past like 2 days but I will continue it tomorrow and I hope my billion asks of nonsense went through, esp the one about Anakin being space fantasy Jesus?? obi wan kenobi: you don’t need any context other than the prequels (episodes 1-3) to watch this. it is everything. they did my sad little desert hermit right and i am kissing deborah chow on the mouth.

the clone wars (animated show): okay so i have to say. watching the clone wars early on is actually HUGELY important because a lot of characters who are introduced in it are brought into other shows like the mandalorian and the book of boba fett and stuff, and if you haven’t watched it it’s a little confusing cause you’re like. well who tf are you??? when in clone wars they had a nineteen episode arc introducing them and stuff. that being said it is a lot to watch (seven seasons, lots of episodes…). but it’s seriously so good!!! like you get to see the individual things that led to anakins fall, ahsoka who is one of the best characters ever made, lots of obi wan angst, commander cody and captain rex and all the other clones who are just so wonderful and loveable, and just some really good stories. if you wanted you could also just start with some of the more important arcs (clone wars is set up in two to four episode arcs that act as sort of chapters in the larger book of the show if that makes sense) which i could give you a separate guide to lmao. but yeah tldr i recommend watching clone wars early on so that the star wars universe gets pulled together a little more.

star wars rebels (animated show): i can not emphasize my love for rebels more. in my honest opinion it is one of the best piecss of star wars media out there, and it is CRIMINALLY underrated. like yeah okay the animation style is a little weird but. the characters and their relationships more than make up for it. it’s about found family. it’s about love and compassion and hope. it’s about kanan and hera being the most loveable couple in the entire galaxy. it’s about zeb and ezra and sabine being siblings. it’s about rebellion and standing up for your home and learning to help others even when no one has helped you. just. it’s so good. i could go on for days. four seasons, twenty ish episodes in each, eleven out of ten stars from me.

rogue one: the best star wars movie ever made. i haven’t watched it in a long time but. good lord. it broke my heart in two and also patched it back together and kissed my forehead. i need to rewatch it desperately. you could really watch this at any point, you just need the context of the original trilogy.

the mandalorian: MY BELOVED. this is the show that really pulled me all the way into star wars a while back, because it’s just SO. GOOD. like din and grogu are everything and the story telling is so good and each episode just has such life to it and it’s just. it’s incredible (also pedro pascal is very hot as the mandalorian but that’s a separate conversation). quality wise it’s at the top of my list, but again i recommend watching it after at least some of clone wars, because i watched it before and didn’t understand some of what was happening. i’m rewatching it now after having watched most of star wars, and it makes a lot more sense lol.

the book of boba fett: confession i’ve only actually watched the first episode because i was waiting to watch it with my dad and we both got too busy, but the first episode slapped and also temeura morrison and ming na when are incredible so i know the rest of it should be good. the natural flow after finishing season two of the mandalorian is to watch book of boba fett, and i know from spoilers and stuff that it’ll make more sense with the clone wars and stuff beforehand.

Can I give a top 3? I'm just gonna give a top 3 because I like these comments for different reasons.

See, I like this because it's giving honest feedback. I know I have a bit of a tendency to go a Mary Sue route. It was way worse in my early days of writing, but it can still shine through if I only write out the scenes where the OC would have a strong positive impact. Without weaknesses to balance it out, of course it'll look Mary-Sue-ish. What I also like is that they didn't insult me for it. They said they didn't like the stories but they also said it was alright. Then they told me what they liked better about Till Death Do Us part. Really great feedback, all in all.

This is one I like because they told me what they liked about the story, like the concept itself and Lani's relationship with Ahsoka, then they even told me they liked my OC which... I will always absolutely adore you if you comment that, I really want people to like them. Finally, without realizing it, they gave me the solution to a plot hole: Why was Ahsoka nowhere around? Why wouldn't she finish Lani's training? Why would she allow them to be separated like that? The answer: Malachor. You see, I don't know anything about Star Wars Rebels except that Ahsoka appears in it, kicks the inquisitors' asses and then fights Vader. How that happened? No clue. What happened before and after? Also no clue. Because, get this, I knew those things from AMVs and edits. But this dear AO3 user just fixed my plothole by mentioning the planet Malachor and thus sending me into the rabbit hole that is Wookiepedia to find out what the deal with Malachor was.

And finally, the best comment I've ever had is by @takealookintheback - I know I didn't reply to it but that's because I was too amazed to say anything

This has everything a good comment needs. Saying what you liked (with pinpointing the actual moments from the story which is just - chef's kiss), a good amount of chaotic energy, interest in what happens next - plus it's coming from the master who had the idea in the first place, so I couldn't be happier!

11. Who is your favorite character(s) to write about and why?

You're making me choose? How cruel! I don't really have a favourite. It depends on the hyperfixation I'm currently in. Mostly, it's my OCs and their significant others, if they have any. Or just generally the people they're really close with, if we're taking my aroace baby Lani, for example. Speaking of Lani: Sibling dynamics are also fun, maybe because I don't have siblings so I get to imagine having them through writing. But if I had to pic favourites, I'd have to say Jelena is somewhere up there, Gordon/Raevyn (chaotic sweethearts), Vicky/Newkirk (really interesting dynamic, even though I gotta say writing Newkirk's accent can drive me mad) and Lani with her siblings and/or Han.

12. What is your favorite theme/subject matter/trope/ship to write about? Why?

I kinda halfway just answered this, didn't I? I like sibling dynamics and couples that have some tension about them and I don't mean sexual tension, I mean tension like other people not approving of their relationship, differences in social standing, an interesting combination of personalities, maybe even physical difficulties... Also, people generally get hurt in my fics. The only time my characters are safe is in pure fluff stories, but even then the fluff might be someone caring for someone who got hurt beforehand. Generally, I really love symbolism and I've been known to throw Greek myth references here and there. I mean, my Data/Tasha story is called Pygmalion and Galatea, so... Other overarching themes would be trust, loyalty and expectations as well as what happens when the opposite is true, when trust gets hurt, betrayal and expectations that aren't met.

Crystal: *muffled* I WON'T LET YOU HURT MY FRIEND!*all of a sudden Crystal broke Free of the rope tearing the duct tape off of her mouth and lifted up crystals and surrounded the person*

Crystal froze*

???: Too bad I took you when your brother was asleep otherwise he'll be tortured in front of you as you stand there in unbreakable ropes as you watch your brother be tortured

thank you!! i'm gonna answer this for...[turns around and whips a knife at a wall of photos] my spyro s/i lonnie! i feel like i haven't really built them up very much even though they predate most of the s/is that do get a lot of buzz on this blog (even a few that i revealed before them lmao)

1. what are the basics of your self insert? name, date of birth, height, etc.?

so their name is just lonnie (no surname as far as anyone knows). they're kind of, y'know, Vaguely Defined Cartoon Adult age but are meant to read as late 20s-early 30s. they stand at the My S/I Standard Height of 5'7". they outwardly appear to be a wolf, but since they're an alchemist whose whole gameplay gimmick (if they were a canon character) would be using different potions to change their form, it is deliberately left up in the air if that's their "true form", although it's true enough for them.

their hypothetical rebel realm is a big wizard tower themed after old monster movies and they have three little bat assistants named claude, bela, and boris.

3. how do the other characters generally feel about your self insert?

most people sort of take them for a weird but harmless nerd who's best left to their own devices. which is a perception they haven't helped since they get kind of grumpy whenever someone bothers them while they're working, which they consider most of the things they do when they're out and about to be part of their work. the characters who either have known them for a while or (in spyro's case) caught them at a good time see them as being...still a weird nerd, but in more of a friendly infodumping kind of way.

5. does your self insert have any special powers or abilities?

they do have actual magical capability that they honed (to a certain extent) during their time as the sorceress's apprentice but they prefer not to use it and instead channel the fundamentals into alchemy, which they're a lot better at.

7. would any other characters (besides your f/o) have a crush on your self insert?

i feel like bentley had an extremely fleeting thing for them because they understand his whole "swallowed a thesaurus" vernacular. (yes i am aware that gets retconned post-og trilogy. i do not see any of those games.) but then he kinda realized that other than that they're not his type.

9. who are your self insert’s closest friends?

they don't get out much but they do eventually get to be good friends with the other rebel realm dudes, and they have a sort of sibling-like relationship with bianca because of the whole "former students of the sorceress gotta stick together" thing.

also spyro but most people are friends with spyro because he's simply too little and purple of a guy to hate.

Prodigious

I find it odd how the fandom focuses so much on Aang’s childhood being ruined when he learned he was the Avatar at 12, but there’s very little talk about how discovering she was the Avatar as a toddler affected Korra’s life and how she was raised.

But we’ll circle back to that...

Because this is a good starting point to talk about one of the most prevalent themes in the story, which the mainstream discussion of tends to only focus on a few characters -- That is the Child Prodigy.

We’ll start with the two most obvious. The ones we always talk about.

Azula.

The clearest example of your typical child prodigy (if there is anything typical about a prodigy). Azula showed early mastery of very advanced Fire-Bending techniques, and is the only Fire-Bender to use blue flames, which was intended to make her stand out amongst the other villains but is also indicative that her Fire-Bending is more pure and powerful (blue flame is produced when burning pure O2 or fuel without contaminant at a very high temperature).

All this lead to her being praised and favored by Ozai as a child, but as double-edged swords go, this also meant she had a lot of pressure on her shoulders to never fail, and she rarely did. Her ego matched her talent, and let’s be honest she was the baddest bitch the show had ever seen. Conquering Ba Sing Se, defeating the Avatar in combat, and dropping some of the most devastating lines of dialogue in villain history; she was a force nobody wanted to reckon with.

And that become a problem for one asshole in particular...

Being jealous of his own child is just one item on a laundry list of reasons why this guy is the worst father in the history of fathers. Azula had begun to outshine him with her victories, and Ozai’s maniacal ego couldn’t handle that, so he left her behind to babysit the Fire Nation while he went out to burn/conquer the world, which also was her idea.

And while this wasn’t the only thing that aided in her demise, it certainly was the final straw which sent her spiraling down into this...

In the end Azula is a sad example of how certain unfair expectations are placed upon talented children, and the more they succeed, the more these expectations grow and weigh on the them until they either disappoint those looking down on them or surpass and embarrass their elders.

It is a lose-lose situation which inevitably destroys them.

There is a similar example of the child prodigy, but his story goes a little different.

Aang.

Even as a twelve/thirteen year-old boy Aang by far has the most impressive stats among any character in the Avatar universe.

Basically mastering 3 of the 4 Elements in less than a year, after mastering Air by the time he is twelve (not to mention inventing his own Air-bending move, the Air scooter).

Aang is an example of a child prodigy who had too much thrust onto him at too young an age because of the talent he showed; because of this he panicked and ran away, and the world was worse off for it.

Aang/Sokka/Katara’s story is all about how in times of War, responsibilities normally handled by adults are pushed onto kids who then have to grow up very fast in order to deal with it all.

The message is clear. War robs the young of their childhoods.

Now, let’s talk about a different kind of child prodigy.

The Unacknowledged.

Yes, of course I’m talking about Toph, the greatest Earth-Bender to ever live.

Because of her blindness, Toph’s family tried to keep her sheltered and safe by hiding her from the world. Refusing to believe she could ever be more than helpless. Anyone who has seen the show knows that is far from the truth.

But because her potential went unseen, there were some negative effects to her personality. Initially, she resented her parents, and rebelled; which established a certain level of independence, a bad attitude, and a hot-headed streak. Over time spent with the Gaang these behaviors subsided because she finally had friends and they accepted her for who she was. By the end of the series she was fully willing to accept aid from them when she needed it, like holding on to Sokka’s arm in environment where her bending couldn’t help her “see”.

Toph’s story is a foil to Azula’s, both showed immense talent and badassery, but while recognition of Azula lead to ever-mounting pressure for her to succeed; the lack of recognition for Toph created a need for her to be acknowledged and set an undercurrent of frustration which leads to her acting out in the ways she does.

The lesson to take from Toph’s story is not to shelter your kid from the world out of fear for their safety, and to be open to recognizing their talents, not shun them.

Next are two more Unacknowledged.

Katara and Sokka.

Their story, and the reason behind their circumstances, is one of the more complicated and nuanced ones in the series, so here we’ll focus on how it fits into the subject of discussion.

Because of the War, Katara was robbed not only of her mother but also of any Southern Masters to train her, and any role models Sokka could have looked up to left with his father to fight. Because of this Katara’s potential and Sokka’s genius went unacknowledged not due to neglect but rather due to circumstance. (Yes, I think Sokka is a genius, how many 15 yr olds do you know that can plan an invasion, design submarines, and spit poetry off the cuff?).

This is a further example of how War robs kids of necessary childhood experiences, and these two robberies had particular effects on both Katara and Sokka’s character developments.

Sokka had the responsibility of protecting his home put upon him at a young age. The men of his tribe leaving prevented him from completing his rite of manhood until the Gaang ran into Bato of the Water Tribe, and early on Sokka was constantly trying to prove himself as a man and a leader. Sokka is one of the smarter characters of the series, but he rarely got credit for it until the third season. Not to mention that because he wasn’t a bender he often seemed less useful than the others. The circumstances of war made his talent go unnoticed and because of that he often was unsure of himself and overcompensated to prove something.

Speaking of talent going unnoticed.

Katara is definitely one of the more talented benders of the series. After training herself for years with little progress, she essentially mastered Water-Bending in a few weeks under Master Pakku. While her anger towards the Fire-Nation mostly centers around the loss of her mother, it can’t be ignored that the delay in her training was a direct result of the Fire-Nations’ actions. Toph’s anger and frustration vented itself as rebellion. However, the same frustration and anger is within Katara, but because she wasn’t as natural a bender as Toph she sought to learn and be respected, and when that was denied to her is when that anger bubbled to the surface in some terrifying ways.

While Toph’s talent went unnoticed because of her families neglect, Katara and Sokka’s wasn’t acknowledged because there was nobody to acknowledge it. Because of that both brother and sister wanted to prove themselves to the world.

And then there is Zuko.

I know what you’re thinking. Zuko wasn’t a prodigy, his Fire-Bending skill didn’t catch up with Azula’s until the finale and he never mastered Lightning-Bending, but this section is about the Unacknowledged.

Zuko had many other talents besides Fire-Bending, he was a master swordsmen, and was able to successfully break into every secure facility he attempted in the show (which was almost every secure facility the show featured). Unfortunately, these talents were never recognized, because the only thing the royal family cared about was bending ability (It’s possible the reason he learned the sword was because he lacked skill in Fire-Bending).

As per usual with Zuko, this part of his tale is quite sad. Many can relate to being outshined by a sibling, and when it becomes all too clear that one cannot match another’s talent it’s quite understandable to focus on what they do excel at, but even then there is no promise of recognition for their own talent. Zuko was even mocked by his father during the solar eclipse when Ozai tried baiting him into attacking with his swords.

This lack of recognition is one of many sad aspects of Zuko’s early life, but it is a definitive example of one of the hardest unacknowledged prodigy’s cross to bear. The Outshone prodigy, one whose talents are never noticed because a bigger and brighter star stands in the way of such recognition, and arguably the most frustrating type mentioned here. Toph/Sokka/Katara all came from situations were there was no recognition being given to them or anyone, but Zuko had to bear watching massive amounts of praise be piled on to his sister while he and his accomplishments went by the way side.

Ozai summed up the situation best.

“Azula was born lucky, Zuko was lucky to be born”

Alright now where have I been going with all this?

So, far we’ve covered a lot of wrong ways to treat a child, whether they show talent or not, and how the circumstances of war can also take many things from children.

But what happened to Korra?

(Before we get into to this I should state that I like Korra, and the purpose of this is not to bash her as a character or her arc, but rather to give a little of my insight into it.)

It’s well established that Aang was told of his heritage too young, and that was a detriment on his development into an adult, but what would have happened if he realized his powers himself not long after he could walk? We’ll never know, but we do get to see the effects it had on Korra.

When she revealed herself as the Avatar, Korra set her entire life in a new direction, and because Aang tasked the White Lotus with finding and training her that direction was out of her control. There are two key differences between Korras’ and other Avatars’ lives.

1. She grew up in isolation on a White Lotus compound.

Every Avatar before Korra we know of spent a portion of their early lives traveling the world in order to master the elements; along this journey they not only learned how to bend the other 3 elements, buy also many things about the 3 other nations and the world they are tasked to protect as a whole. By confining Korra in safety and bringing the masters to her the White Lotus deprived Korra of this opportunity to learn and grow and understand the world and the people within in. It also deprived her of learning modern bending styles until she reached Republic City.

While this might have kept Korra safe from the Red Lotus, it grew within her a naiveté about how the world worked, and because of this when she actually did venture out into the world she was terribly unprepared for it.

2. She was trained and mastered 3 of the elements by the time she was 16.

Most Avatars don’t know they have this power until they reach 16 and then they spend several years learning to control it. Korra’s natural talent in the bending lead to her training being expedited not by necessity like Aang’s, but due to her talent and eagerness. Korra excelled at the physical part of being the Avatar and because of this by the time she reached maturity she had become over-confident in her abilities and true to what her Fire-Bending master said in Ep.1 she lacked restraint.

I’m not saying her bending isn’t great, but rather because it is so great it’s her go-to solution to anything, and she enjoys that so she uses it with enthusiastic gusto and not a lot of thinking before striking.

This overconfidence coupled with her naiveté of the world is what lead to many of her rash decisions and actions, most of which had negative consequences, and I believe are the reason behind some fan are dissatisfied with her. Aang had been almost the complete opposite, even by the age of twelve he was an experienced world traveler and an incredibly humble guy.

Some may have been dissatisfied by these character decisions, but they served a purpose, they are only the beginning of her arc. The internal challenge Korra must overcome through 4 seasons is to humble herself before the world, and learn from it. This was finally achieved in the 4th season when the metal poisoning in her body forces her to face others in the world as equals, only then had she completed her journey.

And why did it all go this way?

Because she is a very unique child prodigy, what she demonstrates in the first episode of LOK would be akin to a toddler playing the violin or hitting a three-pointer; she could bend 3 elements close to just after learning to walk. That is the kind of prodigious talent rarely seen because it is mostly impossible. How does a rational person handle a child like that?

It’s a tough question, and something this essay has been circling around the whole time. Each example here is the wrong way to handle talented and different children, but what is the right way?

As always look to Iroh.

Who treated his surrogate son Zuko with both respect and compassion.

Unlike Toph’s parents, Iroh worried over Zuko’s well being, but also allowed him to be independent, make his own decisions, and take his own risks.

Unlike the Nomad Leaders, he didn’t want Zuko weighed down by his position in the world and the responsibility that came with, and always encouraged him relax and take advantage of the moment.

Unlike Ozai, Iroh would always be there to support Zuko in his victories and his failures. Iroh shows him the right path but does not force him down it.

And even after Zuko betrayed and abandoned him.

Iroh was never angry with him, and embraced him upon his return.

He wanted Zuko to grow and be a better man. Even if Zuko wasn’t a prodigy like his sister.

And that is the answer here. The way to raise a prodigy is the same way anyone should raise any child. Love, Support, a Guiding Hand rather than a Forceful Shove, Recognition of What Makes Them Unique, and Forgiveness When They Falter. The problem comes along when you start treating children differently because you see them as different or special. All children are different, all children are special.

Kids are kids, and they all deserve a proper childhood.

retrogrades: a guide

Do you know that feeling when you to have the illusion that the vehicle you are in is moving backwards in comparison to the vehicle on your side or vice versa? This illusion is very similar to retrogrades. Due to the different speed other planets are orbiting the Sun with, whenever they are parallel to the Earth, it seems as if those planets are moving backwards. However, this is just an illusion, as seen from Earth for a short period of time. As astrology is all about the details, this illusion has a significant impact on our energy, both collectively and individually.

How often do retrogrades happen & what do they mean collectively?

Think of retrogrades as a period when a planet becomes more introverted, so it expresses that energy in an inwardly focused way. These are times of introspection and planning. You take a break in that area of your life in order to asses before taking action. That's why, starting things during retrogrades might not be the best idea, as it will always make you turn back and reassess what you started anyway.

The Sun and the Moon are never in retrograde. Besides these, all the other planetary bodies do go retrograde. The further the planet is from the Sun, the less often retrogrades happening.

Mercury is the one that goes retrograde most often, about 3-4 times a year and it stays in that motion for about 3 weeks at a time. Mercury rules communication, short distance travel and technology, siblings. So whenever it goes retrograde, we are likely to experience delays or feel more introverted about these energies.

Venus goes retrograde every 18 months and usually stays retrograde for about 40 days. So, whenever Venus is retrograde, we might feel more shy in our love life, feel things moving slower in terms of money or even plan to redecorate our house.

Mars goes retrograde every 2 years and usually stays retrograde for about 70 days. Mars is a fiery planet, so when it goes retrograde, it might make us feel like that fire is within us, which can mean bottling up anger or building motivation.

Jupiter goes retrograde every 13 months, lasting for about 4 months. Jupiter is all about luck and abundance, also indulgence, so this can be a time when we manifest better with our own mind.

Saturn goes retrograde every 1 year and it lasts for about 4.5 months. Saturn means rules and lessons, so it being retrograde can show a time of self discipline.

Uranus goes retrograde every 1 year and stays for about 5 months. Uranus is all about spontaneity, rebelling against the world and activism. It going retrograde can mean we feel more called to asses what we stand for.

Neptune goes retrograde every 1 year and stays for over 5 months. Neptune rules imagination, dreams and addiction. We might feel like we are having more dreams, feeling inspired, but also foggy, lost, giving into addictions easier.

Pluto goes retrograde every 1 year for about 5-6 months. Pluto is all about fears and intensity, so it can mean having to deal with some traumas from the past in order to heal from it.

Considering the fact that retrogrades are an illusion, it might seem as if they are holding us back, making things move slower. When in reality, they are helping us asses what we avoided to deal with in the first place and help us grow - so at the end of the day we are still moving advancing trough inner work.

Were you born during retrograde?

Do not panic - it is more common to be born during at least one retrograded cycle than to be born during a period when there are no retrogrades. However, the energy in your chart is felt differently if that is the case. Here's what it means:

No planets in retrograde: I see this as a straightforward chart, the energy of the planets in your chart are all expressed outwardly and this is why retrograde transits might be really introspective times for you.

Born during Mercury retrograde - these people are really good at assimilating information and details, but might have a difficult time with expressing it outwardly. It's nothing impossible, it might just take a bit of practice to feel safe enough to show their rich inner world.

Born during Venus retrograde - these people are very resourceful and know how to use their skills to make money. They might be a bit introverted in terms of showing love or when faced with love from someone else, as they like to take their time and asses at first.

Born during Mars retrograde - these people have a lot of inner motivation and strength and even if they might not show it outwardly as directly as others, they have their own way of dealing with anger or conflict that works for them and helps them succeed on their terms.

*IMPORTANT: Planets from Jupiter to Pluto are not personal planets, so if you were born under these retrogrades, the things written below will be felt less than if you were born with Venus, Mars or Mercury in retrograde.

Born during Jupiter retrograde - these people are most likely to make their own luck, they seek to find meaning in life and to explore. If they put their mind to it, they can be great manifestos in terms of their spirituality. At the same time, outer abundance might come only after they figure out this inner meaning.

Born during Saturn retrograde - these people have their own set of rules and order in which they thrive. When someone invades this order, they might feel disturbed. The key here is not to change their order, but to learn to communicate their needs better.

Born during Uranus retrograde - these people are sure of what they believe in, they might get random sparks of ideas, but they might feel as if some of their ideas or interests are too "strange" for others to understand and might want to keep it to themselves.
