#that's something you should be paying people now the average person as jobs that pay up to 16 or 22 or the manager positions.

I'm getting sick of yelling at thieves and crackheads who come in the store stealing petty shit just to feul their drug habits to get out of the store, or having to deal with incompetent or fucking stupid ass customers bitching about why they can exchange an item even though it's past our policy rate.
The job doesn't even pay well working as a manager at the job I work at doesn't even pay even well why is the job next door to me paying like 16 bucks an hour as a manager but a store that is likely part of a grocery store is only paying me 14.25 and to be a key holder 15 bucks ?? Bullshit

You didn't believe in “love at first sight”.
You liked to consider yourself an actually pretty average person. Having a decent job as a security guard for a theatre that had frequent shows and a good amount of hours.
You stood to the side, having been assigned around the barrier since you got in some odd hours ago, slightly leaning back against the stage in a spot that didn’t obstruct anybody's viewpoint. Watching as the process for the next band, a band named Lovejoy, made their way towards the stage.
They were meant to be the last band for the venue tonight. An up and coming band one of your friends had briefly ranted to you about, but not a band you truly listened to since indie nor indie rock was your vibe.
You had to move from your spot a couple times when a couple of people would try to shove the people already at the barrier, needing to break up a couple spats before they could evolve into something worse. On your second round of going back to your spot, you made the mistake of looking at the lead singer.
It was like your breath had been stolen for the first time. Watching the way he moved with a slight sway, his hands leaving the guitar he was playing to wrap around the mic and the stand itself.
You snap yourself out of it quicker than it started, needing to focus on your job. But now that you’ve fully noticed him, you can’t tune out his voice or the way his band seems to actually play together. It was nice.
You don’t notice that you’ve caught his eye in return.
It isn’t until later, after your manager asks you to stay behind and help double check that everything was in place and safe with a promise of overtime pay, that you actually get to talk to him. He had stayed behind, his band still there somewhere backstage. You were triple checking the barriers one last time when you heard someone clear their throat behind you, hand instantly flying to your baton that was attached to your belt when you turned around. Only to end up relaxing and giving an apologetic smile when you notice it was the lead singer from the last band.
“You should be careful. Not all security will look first.” It’s a light warning, one that he seems to get slightly nervous over as his hand moves to rub at the back of his neck.
“Guess I got lucky then, huh?” He seems slightly sheepish, moving to hold his hands in front of himself as he looks towards you. The look he was giving wasn’t one you could distinguish from, though, almost reminding you of someone who was in awe of something or someone. “What’s your name? I don’t think we were introduced when the band and I first got in.”
“No, we weren’t.” You huff out a light laugh before giving him your name, offering your hand to shake in greeting. The man takes your hand with ease, firmly shaking your hand as a smile pulls at his lips.
“I’m Wilbur, or Will, depending on what you’ve heard. But you can call me what you’d like.” You raise a brow, suddenly curious as to how many names the man is known by. Decidedly, you bite your tongue and let the question remain unanswered.
“Well, it’s nice to meet you, Will. You and your band were lovely tonight. The girls were fighting over barrier for you.” You partially joke, lightly hitting the back of your knuckle against the barrier before crossing your arms over your chest. “What are you still doing here? Your show is over. Surely you’re ready to pass out for the night.” There’s just barely a tint of concern to your voice. It wasn’t like you hadn’t seen bands after their concerts. Most went off on adrenaline, but you’ve seen the type where they instantly find a place backstage to momentarily crash.
Wilbur gives a partial smile as you speak, mostly watching as your lips move when you speak. “I saw you, and I was curious. I couldn't help myself.” He slightly chuckles, pressing his hands into his pockets this time. “Say, are you busy tonight or tomorrow? I'd love to take you out to eat.”
You can't help but give a sound of confusion. Why would he have wanted to take you out to eat at all? Surely, he wanted something out of it since not every lead singer would approach a random person to take them out.
“I'm not sure, I have a busy day tomorrow, and my bed at home yearns for my return.” You try to turn him down lightly, not missing the slight tug of a frown on his face before he gives another smile.
“That's fine. Can we exchange numbers then?” He's getting nervous, unlike when he initially approached. It makes you stall for a moment before you hum and offer a nod.
“Sure, that's more doable.” Your tone is calm, and to Wilbur, it's almost soft.
It takes a moment, but you exchange phones and effectively numbers. Chatting for just a bit longer before Wilbur dismisses himself first.
That night, when you're laying in bed, is the first time you both exchange conversation through text. It isn't the last by any means.
Conversation came easy between you two whenever it occurred. Whether it was in between his concerts or you being sleep deprived at three in the morning, it wasn't ever awful.
It takes a long time for you two when you see each other next. Wilbur, having gone on his second tour around your area, and coincidentally, the theatre you worked at again. It fell on a day that you didn't work, but that didn't mean you didn't get backstage access.
It was a similar tour to the last one you had been working on, songs from the same albums but ones they hadn't played last time. It was like they had an allure to them this time, something that just made you want to dance with someone. It could have just been the fact that you had grown more than fond over Wilbur’s voice over the hour after hour of phone calls that piled up in your logs after having met him.
When the concert ends, he takes his time heading backstage with his band. Wilbur is the one to spot you first, quick to run over, and wrap his arms around you in a welcoming embrace. You were quick to reciprocate with a wide grin, happy to finally see him in person after so long.
“I didn’t think you would be here today.” His tone is quiet, one of his hands moving to cup your cheek before moving to the nape of your neck. It wasn’t a hold you had expected from Wilbur of all people, yet it wasn’t unwelcome. In fact, it just made a strange bout of butterflies rise up in your stomach without warning.
“I wanted to surprise you,” You hum out with little hesitation, just enjoying the fact that you get to see him in person again as friends. Ignoring the slight chill that ran through you at that last part, it was all but perfect. “This time, my night is free if you’d like dinner together after your show?”
“Assuming you’re paying, of course.” It’s a joke he gives as his hands leave you, the warmth going with him yet some remaining behind enough. Comfortably, you pressed your hands into your pockets with a softer smile.
“Nah, but we can split the check unless you’re feeling like a gentleman tonight.” You joke right back, bumping the side of your hip against his as you move to walk past him. He’s quick to follow after you, looping one of his arms in your own as you walk together now.
“You should get ready for that dent in your bank account, darling.” You huff out a laugh, the cheeky grin on his face displaying that he was at least partially playing around.
“The only dent that'll happen tonight is the one to your ego when you end up paying for it.” it makes your chest warm, being able to talk and joke with Wilbur in any manner, especially in person.
“Is it a date?” He asks, and there's an underlying tone of genuine curiosity. Taking it at surface value, though, it sounded mostly playful.
“Sure, Will. It’s a date. So long as you pay.”
“I'll take what I can get.”
It was the first of many to come.

DO WHAT YOU CAN AND DONT BE A DICK ON THE INTERNET
i was writing a post about how it's unhelpful to shame average people for not meeting your standards of activism and calling them evil and things like that bc shame is not a reliable motivator and you don't know these people blah blah blah. and then i ended up writing this so here u go:
like. let's imagine you're an average guy. you work a job under a shitty manager and you still can't pay rent and afford groceries at the same time. you have untreated physical and mental illness and/or trauma. you don't have energy to cook a full meal. one of the microwave foods you like is being recalled. lead or e. coli or something. you can't remember when you last had water. you are too tired to clean the mold and algae off the corners of your brita. and who knows what is in the tap water.
a new episode of your favorite show just came out. you post about it. someone comments or makes a video about you and several others who are not posting about [serious issue]. saying you are heartless and inhuman. and you've heard about [serious issue] on a site or from someone who is supposed to be the most trustworthy on this topic. this random person on the internet is telling you things that don't match up to that. they're telling you that you should've had researched more. that not knowing enough is not an excuse. there is mold in your brita filter.
the video about you has thousands of comments. they're saying they think you should know what it's like to experience [serious issue]. then maybe you would take it seriously. you have the privilege to post about your favorite show. you are being lazy. these people are like piranhas. your dinner has e. coli or something. you have to clean your brita.
you want to research [serious issue]. you care about people. you started to but you are hearing different stories. one of your sources is from the same internet the random person came from. you thought you weren't supposed to trust the internet? another source can't even stand up against itself. that one is supposed to be trustworthy.
you see someone getting torn apart for posting misinformation. comments say they should have done their research. these people are like piranhas.
now you're seeing it. raw footage. you need a break and your notifications are flooded. why haven't you posted about this yet??? it's the least you could do. are you lazy??? don't you care??? these people are like piranhas. you still need to clean the brita.
no more internet. you need to clean the brita. sponge, soap. tap water. thin green and black streaks coming off the corners of the pitcher. all done. well now the sponge has mold on it. new sponge. your brita filter is getting old. new filter. do you even deserve a new filter? do you deserve fresh water? whatever, just refill it. tap water. waiting. tap water. waiting. tap water, fridge. check your phone.
brita filters are getting recalled.
lead or e. coli or something.

coming from one of those "born in mid 2000s and is now suddenly an adult, making everyone feel old," people, do you have any resources to learn how to bullshit your way through getting a job with zero experience. cause i cant even put like "babysitting" or anything since covid prevented literally any teenage-typical jobs and i kinda dont know what to put on a resume beyond the university im currently attending and the high school i graduated from. and they still dont teach you this in school even though we've complained for years 😭
Okay my chilluns, listen up. This is how to bullshit your way into a basic 1-page resume even if you think you have absolutely dum-dum-diddlysquat to put on it. I completely feel you, as it's hard as hell to get a job even in the ordinary course of things, and especially when everything seems to want 10 years of experience and a bachelor's degree (and still pays like shit). But you gotta be persistent anyway. So here follows the step-by-step guide of How To Resume:
Open a new Word (or other word-processing software of your choice) document.
Pick a nice, professional-looking font (for the love of God, no Comic Sans). Times New Roman is fine; you don't have to overthink it. My own CV is currently in Perpetua, because it's a nice serif that looks crisp and a little different, but it is still clean and readable. Garamond or Cambria or other starter typefaces are fine too. Make sure it is the right size, usually around 12pt.
Put your full name at the top, centered, in BOLD CAPITALS. Increase the typeface size a few more points on this, to make it stand out and to make it take up space.
Underneath this, in regular-sized text, put your contact information: mailing address if you're comfortable sharing it, or if not, at least your phone number and email address. Use a school email if you have it, and not some weird/in-jokey personal email.
Start a new paragraph. In a slightly smaller font (italic if you want to make it look classy) write a few words about yourself. This should be something like I am a [Major] student at [University] looking for a part-time, entry-level position in [sales, retail, office, etc]. A [year] graduate of [High School] in [City, State], I am [prompt, reliable, detail-oriented, mature, friendly, etc] and a hard worker who is eager to gain experience and positively contribute to your business.
Start a new paragraph. Change the alignment from Center to Left. Create a new heading in bold underline labeled Education.
Under this, fill in your education (college first, followed by high school). Include the institution name, city, and state, the year you graduated or expect to graduate, any honors or awards, any extracurriculars, any grade-point averages if they're good (i.e. 3.0 and above), and your expected major in college.
Start a new paragraph. Create another heading: Experience.
This is where you put absolutely anything you can think of (in chronological order, most recent first and counting backward). Did you volunteer for something ever in your life? Put it down! (Title of work, dates, location, brief description of work). Did you do yard work for someone for a weekend? Put it down! Were you (or are you) part of a student club or organization in high school or university? Have you organized or taken part in any local initiatives in your community or neighborhood? Put it down! Basically, absolutely any kind of work, paid or unpaid, that might be relevant, regardless of how long it was or when it took place.
Under that, put the new heading/paragraph Skills and Interests.
Have you worked with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Adobe, Photoshop? Put it down! People love that shit! Do you use social media and/or know how to work it better than the average grandma? Put 'er down! You get the idea. Think of anything in your daily life that can be put in Job Language and then see if you can do that. You are in university; do you have any projects, papers, or other things that you're proud of? Have you successfully managed a (gasp) group project? Do you make any kind of art? Are you a registered voter who has taken part in civic/political organizations, drives, or events? (If not, REGISTER TO VOTE! This is your angry grandmother speaking). All of that can go down. Even if it's not job experience per se, it's life experience and shows that you are someone who is engaged with the world and working to gain more.
Last paragraph and heading: References. Ask a few trusted adults who know you well and aren't related to you, such as a favorite high school teacher or a university faculty member/degree advisor, if they'd be willing to serve as referees. Put down their full names, titles/place of work, email addresses, and phone numbers.
Voila! You have a full page resume, probably even a little more if you're lucky. Proofread, make sure the spacing is even and the alignment is right, it doesn't look weird, the text is a consistent size, it's all the same color, there are no glaring typos or grammatical errors, etc. etc. Save it as a PDF.
Boom. Done. You are now a Job Hunting Maestro.
If you get an interview, you don't need to pretend that you have tons of experience or that you're something you're not, but you can present what you ARE in a positive light anyway. Don't apologize for yourself or play yourself down pre-emptively; be confident about yourself and what you can offer. You're a college kid looking for your first part-time job, COVID prevented you from a lot of normal teenage work experience, you're willing to work hard and learn new things. Here's your resume. What would be a good time to talk again.
Good luck! I believe in you.

Dungeon Meshi - Quick Reacts (CHA 15: Porridge)
It’s time for... VOLUME 3!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s them again! The guys who got got by the bug coins!
Tumblr media
NO ONE checked their pulses - confirmed. Lmfao. Great job, main party. You all failed your medicine checks.
Tumblr media
This is the... third time? That there’s been mention of monsters moving UP floors. Something has been driving them up out of the lower layers of the dungeon?
Tumblr media
I don’t think it was our guys who did THAT. Fallin was the one who was handy with anti-ghost spells, right? Marcille didn’t know how to do it?
Tumblr media
But the trail says otherwise. Interesting.
Tumblr media
.....business is business..........I guess.
Tumblr media
Damn, they got down there FAST. Guess the paintings didn’t slow them down much. I wonder if doodle-Laios is still there.......trapped.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The idea of having a water level that you WALK over is honestly a super cool dungeon concept. It creates such a unique atmosphere that forces the characters to think about their surroundings in a totally different way.
Tumblr media
I would die for you, dog-man.
Tumblr media
“Mermaids, hm? Average Tuesday.“
Tumblr media
Those mermaids can pull me underwater any time they want.
Tumblr media
This is kinda cute, not gonna lie.
Tumblr media
NOOOOOOOO SHE DIDN’T HEAR HIM BECAUSE OF THE EARPLUGS!!! NOOOO
Tumblr media
Oh, how the tables have turned. Now it’s Marcille and Senshi as the sensible ones.
Tumblr media
They really did just die again, huh.
To be fair, I don’t know if it’s their skill level that’s at fault. It feels like they just have shit luck.
Tumblr media
Laios did not pay enough attention to care, I think.
Tumblr media
Old take on kobolds that makes them dog-like! That’s fun. I’m personally fond of lizard-flavored Kobolds myself but it’s still fun to see familiar terminology.
Tumblr media
Do mermaids really turn into fish-faced people when dead???
Tumblr media
for a second there I thought he straight up slapped him ahahaa
Tumblr media
oh my god. Laios is. Singing terribly. To combat. the mermaids.
Does that...........work? SHOULd it work? Holy shit.
Tumblr media
IT WAS THE MERMAID’S OWN SONG??????
THE COMMITMENT!!! THE CHUTZPAH
Incredible. 10/10.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Laios is incredible in that he is basically a Horny Guy trope that’s constantly berated by the cast for a base instinct but... instead of sex his base instinct is just hunger and the urge to eat the weirdest ass thing he finds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m gonna ignore whatever emotional turmoil Chilchuck is going through in order to ask.... WHAT?? Are they different species or not? And if so, do they.... work together? Are they filling different niches? Do they not compete for one another?
Or maybe they’re just a dimorphic species. Maybe the sirens are the dude fishes, and the fish-mermaids are the females.
Tumblr media
The spectrum of this man is edging into ultraviolet territory.
Tumblr media
This is. A fantastic meme base.
Tumblr media
guys can we call it literally anything else
Tumblr media
10 photos taken before a disaster
Tumblr media
Top DnD College Kid Dinners
Tumblr media
Honestly, I respect her ability to just say ‘meh’ and move on though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DO NOT. RUIN THIS FOR HER.

How the Bad Batch got white-washed: a script
(Don't know if this is how it actually happened, but it's my personal theory that came out after some wiiiild discussions on Discord. I don't believe this actually happened, but I do think liberties were taken to secure audience members and ratings. Enjoy, my little crumpets!)
CW: Everything. Just...at this point, in between fics and art filled with violence and Naughty Times and Doug's irrational ramblings about Toaster Strudel and SEC football, you should probably leave if you're under 18.
-----
(Be Star Wars animation studio, probably Florida, who knows)
Studio Executive: Yo, animator, we got a problem here.
Animator: Yes?
Studio Executive: These clones, the new guys in this new show, 'The Bad Batch'…they all look alike. All bronzed, good looking guys with dark hair and thick shoulders.
Animator: Yes, that’s, um, kind of what clones are, sir? They are genetic duplicates of an indigenous actor from New Zealand.
Tumblr media
Studio Executive: That’s the problem.
Animator: Say what?
Studio Executive: Who is watching this damn show? Who is paying for Disney + subscriptions? Who is our main money-making audience here?
Animator: Um, I guess…families? And, uh, lonely single adults?
Studio Executive: EXACTLY. And you know what is declining, besides civility in an ever-crumbling society?
Animator: What?
Studio Executive: THE BIRTH RATE.
Animator: Uh, actually--
Studio Executive: YOU KNOW IT, I KNOW IT, THE WORLD KNOWS IT. DAMN GREAT RECESSION AND PANDEMIC AND CRUSHING REALITY GETTING MILLENIALS ALL (legitimately) SCARED OF HAVING BABIES. WE NEED MIDDLE CLASS PEOPLE TO START BREEDING LIKE RABBITS IF WE WANT TO HAVE A STEADY POPULATION OF AUDIENCE CONSUMERS OF DISNEY PRODUCTS.
Animator: Well, that seems aggressively eugenics-oriented, with a tinge of classism.
Studio Executive: WHATEVER I MAKE THE BIG BUCKS SHUT YOUR ART SCHOOL MOUTH. Now, redesign those new clones!
Animator: To…what?
Studio Executive: First of all, the tech guy! What’s his name?
Animator: ….Tech.
Studio Executive: WELL THAT SHIT’S EASY TO MARKET. Anywho, get rid of the tan and the muscles and the thick dark hair. No nerd looks like that, come on. Make him a skinny white guy with receding hair, slap some hipster glasses on him too. Actually, you know what? Meander your ass over to the accounting department on the second floor and draw a few of the weirdos conducting audits in there. Base the tech guy off of them, not a buff, golden, Maori man.
Animator: But the guys in accounting look NOTHING like Temuera Morrison! This is just wrong!
Tumblr media
(pictured above: Not the average CPA in the USA. That rhymed)
Studio Executive: Bro, get real. Are these lonely single ladies and the exhausted moms watching this show with their kids going to run into Mr. Morrison while working their office job? You think Boba Fett’s tanned self sits at the corner cubicle and tries to hit on them when they go to the copier? What are you smoking?! And on that note, make that tech character sassy, smart, and nurturing! Make him the perfect guy!
Animator: Why? I am so confused.
Tumblr media
("Wanna come look at some Excel spreadsheets with me, baby?")
Studio Executive: Because we want all the 30-something ladies watching this show to get so hot and bothered over Tech that they decide they need to have this clown’s babies, like, now! And they’ll run over to the accounting office, drunkenly hook up with one of the auditors in a broom closet after Thirsty Thursday, and boom! Another consumer born, 9 months later!
Animator: This is sounding astonishingly like eugenics.
Studio Executive: WHATEVER. Same goes for the other clones! Make that tall bald one look like the aggressively outgoing construction worker that’s laying cement outside of the accounting office! The one that always wolf-whistles and screams ‘Jesteś piękna! Beautiful like model!’ at every woman! The one that all the ladies in the office watch and go ‘Oh, yes, take that shirt off, it’s a hot day today, daddy’. Watching that fun guy on this show means those ladies with THROW THEMSELVES at guys like this! And bam! MORE CONSUMERS FOR DISNEY BORN.
Tumblr media
(Wrecker has raw contractor energy. ::lays pipe::)
Animator: I am not enjoying this conversation’s direction.
Studio Executive: CAN IT AND TAKE IT UP WITH HR. Now the leader, I know we’re going with Rambo, and I’m okay with it, but give him a little extra smolder and snatch that waist a bit. I want to go for a ‘hot waiter at Cooper’s Hawk that slips you his number after you tip him 40%’, vibe. 30-something ladies love Cooper’s Hawk, there’s been market research, do it.
Tumblr media
(He'll judge your love of pinot grigio, but not how you pay him, wink wink)
Animator: No.
Studio Executive: SHUT UP AND DO YOUR JOB. Now, the last two…bald, calm guy that always seems tired but is still constantly there for you? Basically, every exhausted Millennial man right now? Make him extra pale because he hasn’t left his condo since 2020 and his only social outlet is playing STEAM games with his other lonely friends. Perfect. Job well done.
Tumblr media
(He uses his scomp to play 'Dave the Diver'. You know he does)
Animator: Yeah, his name is Echo and he–
Studio Executive: Good, make him like I said, and trust me, ladies will see men like him and want to fix them, and then promptly ride said men like it’s Derby Day. More consumers born, we will have a bumper crop of tickets purchased at Disneyworld and Galaxy's Edge within the next couple of years. Excellent.
Animator: Sir, you are a sick, sick man.
Studio Executive: Speaking of which, the last guy. Just make him Clint Eastwood.
Animator:…Clint Eastwood. Isn’t he old as hell?
Tumblr media
(Oh, Daddy Warcrimes, you and your toothpick are the Internet's Everything)
Studio Executive: Yeah, but, daddy issues abound amongst many of our consumer audience. And this is a show about daddy issues. And hopefully, by watching this, we will turn more people in daddies and KEEP OUR CONSUMER NUMBERS UP ON DISNEY +!
Wait, where are you going?!
Animator: I’m resigning and joining the Peace Corps, I can’t do this anymore.

job hunt tipssssss (and lessons learnt..)
Tumblr media
tailor your resume to each position you apply
(1) always make your employers' job easier
include only the relevant experience and keep the descriptions straightforward.. recruiters are basically just ticking boxes, make it easy for them to do so or expect them to bin your CV after a quick glance
(2) have too many part-time/work gaps?
i highly recommend using a skill-based CV than a chronological CV for this case; not only is it waaaaaaaaaay easier to prepare but also makes your experience look more put-together since you can mix & match your relevant skills.. give it a shot if you've inconsistent work history or want to have a career change; i should mention it's also a game changer for people whom English isn't the first language
(3) review your cover letter before heading to an interview
i mean you've already explained why you're a great fit for the job in the application, just take advantage of that effort and reiterate everything during the interview --- preparation done!
Tumblr media
dont use the same answer for interviews
.. it'll definitely make you come across as average
there are 3 key and frequently asked questions you should be ready for:
(1) tell me about yourself
start with a basic introduction, followed by your previous work experience (again, making them relevant to the job) and wrap up with a glimpse of your personality -- for instance, say something like.. I see myself as an ambitious and self-motivated person (.. and how these qualities fit the job profile!)
(2) what do you know about us/ why do you want to work for us
always research the company; mention its values or services, and how they resonate with you
(3) what can you offer us/ why do you think you suit this job
highlight how your experience aligns with the job requirements; this demonstrates your dedication and preparation.. and also shows the employer what they can expect from you
i hate interviews (who doesnt?).. i believe many of us are very qualified for jobs we're interested in but often struggle to demonstrate our competence effectively; my way to make the process less agitating is to view it as a cool opportunity for employers to learn about us: it's not an exam.. rather, it's a level playing field where two or more strangers come together to mutually explore each other.
This is your chance (after putting so much effort into preparing the application) to shine and let them know you're the perfect fit for the job they're offering!
Tumblr media
never trust the reaction of the interviewer!
some interviewers acted super affirmative to each of my responses, making me feel like i was nailing the interview.. but then i ended up getting no job; i understand the intention is to encourage interviewees during the process, but pls dont take them too seriously and get carried away
stay focused and humble instead
Tumblr media
always reflect after each experience (exactly what i'm doing now)
it's important to reflect on your performance and seek improvement for future applications
i always discover areas that could be done better while preparing for new job applications, even though i felt that i'd already given my best for the last one
the competition is fierce but dont worry about competing with other stronger candidates (what you cant control); instead, concentrate on what you can control which is demonstrating how you're the best candidate!
always put yourself in your employer's shoes and do the homework; focus on the good and keep trying, one day all your hard work will pay off and get the job you deserve
.
(i regret so much that i didnt perform better during my interview just nw🥲i dont want the same thing to happen to you, pls take my tips and prepare as much as you cn💔)

It’s going to sound mean but you seem so pressed over Umiko’s alleged earnings, it’s worrying. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that seeing what she probably earns could make you feel hurt, but you sound jealous and not in a ‘I wish her well and I hope I’ll be able to earn as much or even more’ but more like ‘why the hell people pay her for her art if they don’t pay me for mine?’. And mentioning her specifically couple of times in your recent posts??? It almost sounds like you have a problem with HER and that SHE is being paid for her art and not you. I both write and draw, I know how much work, effort and time it takes and I am happy for Umiko and other artists, because it seems that people are willing to pay for what we create, you just have to know how to sell your product and it is not Umiko’s fault that it took you this long to figure something out. I’m happy her success motivated you and you decided to talk to your friend who can help you with your art, but seriously your recent posts made me feel like you have a serious problem with that girl. One more thing, you mentioned that she earns more in whatever amount of time than your mom in a year like what about it? Is it Umiko’s fault? People per her because they want to support her and they want to have access to her art, and I guess she wouldn’t earn as much in a normal job.
So first of all, I welcome you to quote directly (not paraphrase--highlight, copy, and paste) where I said or even implied that I think that Umiko should not be paid as much as she is.
Second of all, I mentioned Umiko as often I did because she is one of my favorite artists, not because I dislike her. I adore her work and believe she deserves every dollar she has made. She works very hard and is one of the few artists who I think is actually getting adequate compensation for that work. In addition, she seems to be a very kind person, and I will never resent the success of good people.
Thirdly, am I like not supposed to be jealous of someone making nearly $1million a year off fandom work????????????????????????? Sorry, but I think I'm allowed to feel envious that someone in my community is making more than twenty-four times the money I make, especially considering that I've been making fandom work for cod for about as long as she has. Maybe not as much, but I've been pretty consistent for the past year, despite the fact that I've been doing it for free.
I'm allowed to be salty that fandom culture permits her to ask for payment but fanfiction is just taken for granted as free content. Fandom does not bat an eyelash when artists ask for a subscription fee to access fanart porn, but writers can barely get readers to kick them an occasional $5 through ko-fi. Umiko didn't "figure something out" before I did--she has been allowed to monetize her work every step of the way because fandom has collectively agreed that it is acceptable for her to do so.
Umiko is not the only artist, either--Bluegiragi and Wombywoo are both making a significant amount of money off of their fanart. This is not guesswork on my part; the number of these artists' paid subscribers is available publicly on their patreon pages, and if you went to fourth grade math you're probably able to multiply that by the average fees of their tier lists. It is not hard to figure out that these artists are making a very comfortable living, or at least an extremely lucrative side hustle, off of work they produce for the Call of Duty fandom.
And I'm not saying they shouldn't! I never did! My beef with this fact is that this mode of income is not available to fanfiction writers! I have known writers who have written full length novels of carefully crafted stories that will never see even a fraction of a penny for their work, because fandom insists that fanfiction should not be monetized!
And knowing what I know now, I reject that notion entirely. It is beyond ridiculous, it is exploitative. My work, and the work of my friends, is just as labor-intensive, just as time-intensive, and just as skill-intensive as the work Umiko and the rest produce. If these artists deserve compensation for their fanwork--and I reiterate, they do--then how can we say that fanwriters don't?
As a postscript, I think you took my arguments in very bad faith, and I don't appreciate the finger-wagging you came into my inbox to do. I don't have to simper about other people's worth for my assertions about my own to be valid.

This is a really good video essay from an excellent channel. He immediately hammers home, "This is specific to cash you have available to invest, not cash for short term emergencies."
This is stupidly fucking important.
One of the most frustrating things I've seen are people who have gone from broke/poor to "I have had a great year, maybe even a few great years in a row -- I'm rich! I should invest heavily, maybe even super aggressively, like rich people do!"
Protect yourself first.
Tumblr media
I'm taking a different-than-intended view of his point because I want to illustrate something that isn't talked about a lot.
There is a huge difference between "I have had a few great years and have some extra cheddar laying around" and "I'm rich and have resources that will last forever."
Understanding and having a realistic view of where you are not only protects you against the "oh well fuck I suddenly have An Emergency Happening" it also helps keep you sharp.
There are scammers, frauds, and honest but just bad investments and business opportunities, constantly on the hunt for someone in that "I have had a few great years in a row and have extra cheddar."
Think about professional athletes.
They sign on as young people -- teens, 20s, maybe earlier -- and make a lifetime of average salary in a few years. "This person got paid $3 million!"
A $100,000 salary over 30 years is $3,000,000.
So basically they got paid a good 30 years salary up front.
Which. Is great. Because they can spend 30 years investing it carefully to protect + grow it.
But they aren't rich. They have a pool of money. Right now. For now.
We're not even talking about inflation. Or rising home prices, rising healthcare costs, rising fuel... the uneven blanket of rising costs etc.
They got that when they were 20 -- and if they can stretch it for 30 years until they are 50, they're still probably 10-20 years from traditional retirement.
This is an oversized example but the point stands.
Tumblr media
Let's say you get a new job, or a promotion, or have a business that suddenly pivots and takes off, inherit -- whatever.
For some reason your bank account increases.
You think: "I GOTTA DO SOMETHING WITH THIS."
Yes :-)
You gotta ensure your emergency account is well funded.
You gotta look at your debt and weigh it against investment opportunities. If it is higher than what you can expect in a return, pay it off. Debt that makes you money is leverage, debt that decreases your money is... debt.
You gotta look at your expenses -- old and new -- be aware that lifestyle shifts could bring in extra expenses.
Tumblr media
Ask yourself: Do I have NEW MONEY or do I have NEW INCOME?
If your money is a one-off, treat it carefully as a one-off boost. Enjoy it, spend it, save it, whatever -- but treat it as a BOOST.
If it is new income, THEN consider adjusting your financial situation long term to PROTECT EMPHASIS PROTECT EMPHASIS AGAIN PROTECT --
-- and then grow.

Re: the last ask but only about the smosh games part, because I don't have fully formed opinions on pit tbh
I feel like with the amount of videos smosh games puts out, they couldn't do "love is blind" type videos 3 times a week. Logistically, energy wise, and financially.
The guesses videos are just a lot easier to produce and I feel pretty confident about saying that they need to do that to keep up the posting schedule. (Technically not those specific videos, but formats in that ball park.)
If they should is another question but probably they have to, because money. Idk how much profit smosh makes, but their margin must be a lot slimmer than people imagine. All the salaries they have to pay, etc. And yk how shayne and stuff talked about feeling like smosh would had to shut down if Anthony didn't come back. That makes me feel like they were barely turning profit in those times and now it prob is better, but not extremely more.
Smosh games is simultaneously the one that makes the best and the most boring videos. From all smosh channels, it is least consistent, and I think it very much has to do with the amount they produce. And realistically, that won't change.
They good thing is that you can skip a bunch of uploads and still have multiple new smosh games videos you can watch per week.
But yeah if all those considerations weren't on the table the perfect smosh games would be a lot of gaming content mixed with high energy character videos (love is blind falls under that too). And of course the pinnacle, characters playing video games.
Sadly my wish won't come true, because of what I just stated but also because the types of videos I enjoy typically get the least views on top of that (not always but yeah). I suffer from too great of taste djkds.
I think what you said about them having to turn profit is the sole reason they do so much of the "lackluster" content like the Guesses videos. Those videos get consistent views for all uploads (averaging about 600k views which I believe makes them "roughly" $18k if monetized) and are really easy to make, for filming and editing.
Like I've said and am sure everyone is aware of, they make a lot of videos because they know it'll get a certain number of views. Look at Reddit Stories! Whereas if one-off videos don't get views they don't do them again typically.
The topic of why they decide to certain videos isn't really what I'm the most peeved about. (even though it DOES peev me! It's at the least understandable why they do it)(we talked about how they could transition to doing other videos without loosing money here)
The main thing I want from Smosh is for them to better focus on what the ACTUAL community wants! somebody has to watch their content so they can make money? I don't understand why it's far and between when they do stuff for the fans. We've been saying that we want the Summer/Winter Games back since it's been gone, it's like whoever runs the creative directing(?) (whoever decides the video concepts) pays almost no attention to comments/generally anything Smosh related on the internet. It's like they only focus on their personal timeline and the trending tab.
(Rant incoming!->
Full shade, I really don't think the social team takes their jobs seriously. Something has to be going wrong behind the scenes for so much shit to come off so weird. Mainly talking about the disaster with Sword AF S2, idk who's idea it was to let the community know they couldn't do it WHEN IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE RELEASED. Their is no good reason they couldn't let us know sometime before. (however I am open to what they have to say) It just felt like they didn't really care about people that were excited. I had popcorn ready and my schedule cleared for the day so I could watch it :( waiting on the clock to watch the upload, just to get-> "Ooopsie! teehee! We didn't finish it! So sorry lol!" ...
They still haven't teased/released any further info about when it's coming back which makes me think they FOR SURE knew it wasn't gonna be ready by the date THEY FUCKING SET THEMSELVES, which again if they knew they couldn't do it in time why not announce like a week before? even an hour before would have been fine! but no, they sent out the community post at 10am pst when they were supposed to drop S2..)
The only thing the social team (if they handle this even) is the YT shorts and the Tiktoks. Pretty much everything else I can think of they could do better in my opinion
Sorry to rant about stuff I've already talked about, but this is really just to easy of a fix to not point out when I can.
Pay attention to what your community wants. You WILL get rewarded for it.

Y’all get my crack fanf au info now.
I’m not sure what I’m calling it, probably something catchy like Star struck, but Idk.
It was made before the Ruin DLC came out, but might change to a “oh shit these guys are incredibly impressive and we should save their code” kind of thing.
Original idea below cut, along side newer idea(maybe)
This AU is basically biased on two things:
Sun and Moons hight
And my hight.
We don’t have their canonical heights, however we can assume their hight is roughly between 6-7 feet (1.8-2.1 meters)
Guess who else is conveniently in that size range?
Me, or at least me when I finish growing. My family’s average high is 6”4 (193 cm) (which is tall for an afab person)
Now for an afab person who wears heels?
Let’s just say it’s a high range I’m well within, when I’m dressing how I like.
Here’s the basic premise of the AU, my charter Minnie is 6”3 (190 cm) and is a kind of eccentric scientist, who is hired by this company to help create robotic assistants, and security guards.
Minnie hears the rumors around The Fazbear company, and about how advanced their AI is.
Now being a coder, who created almost every bit of these animatronics they have, they are very interested in Fazbear. So with permission from their company, they ask if they can go and see these animatronics in action.
Which animatronic happens to deal with helping people and doing security work? (And has its own cult following?) The Daycare attendant!
So Minnie comes in mid-day to watch the Daycare attendant. Which would have been fine if not for two things:
Minnie insisted that they not know why they were here
Minnie is a 6”5(they wear platforms) goth woman with long burgundy hair and dresses like a Victorian ghost
So this visit goes about as well as you think, and after giving Sun a miniature panic attack after they not only managed to fall into the ball pit, but also get themself on top of a play structure. When the Daycare closes they are throughly interrogated by the rather stressed Sun
Yeah thats the best first interaction Minnie had with All the animatronics in the Pizza plex.
But Minnie isn’t alone in this adventure! No no!
They have their security guard Will to help as well!
Now Will, short for William obviously, is a 5”5 (165 cm) Trans man who got hired my Minnie to help develop the AI of Pegasus, the security guard animatronic they are working on. Picrew of him at end.
Now Will’s actual job description is such: To break into a place Pegasus is in and survive. That’s it. He was originally hired by Minnie to do this by breaking into the building Pegasus was guarding and then steal a box.
The box was his job application forms.
Now Minnie and Will have a strange friendship, and the reason Will got his name is because of a pun.
Will feral.
Now the reason we call Will feral, is because after being hired by Minnie to basically light their few Million dollar robot on fire, he decided to follow Minnie around. Minnie is eccentric and weird and need supervision from both Will and their little helpers.
Minnie being a successful, gender queer who dressed like a Victorian lady in mourning often gets them spotted and harassed. And one day, while on the way to a meeting. Will just started barking at this guy who kept making passes.
At a later date, he had soda in his mouth and started to foam at the mouth while barking at a man who had done something similar.
So Wills second job came around. Minnie’s personal security guard.
And as Minnie’s friend, who gets paid to hang around them, drop to all fours bark and growl at people. It’s understandable that he also asks to be able to foam at the mouth on command.
Wills hole gag is being this feral little goblin man, who is smart and is technically inclined. Except he’d rather bite his friend, and drop to the ground on all fours and start barking and growling like a dog while foaming at the mouth.
If you’ve been paying attention I also mentioned Little helpers.
The Little helpers names are Heart, and Star.
They are two of the other type of animatronic Minnie makes. The assistant type.
Heart is the model body version of Pegasus, and test AI for Star.
Now Heart and Star are designed to run off of air pollution, such as an excess of greenhouse gases. They take that in and convert it into oxygen (like a plant) and run off of that.
It’s Also worth mentioning that Heart and Star are 45 and 69cm tall (1”6 ft and 2”3ft)
Heart and Star run around following Minnie around most times, but they have their jobs in the work place too. As cute as they are. (Image will be below Williams, Heart on the right, Star on the left)
Two more major oc, then I promise I will add the animatronics!
Comet, and Another who we are calling PI, short for Poor Intern.
Now PI is assigned to Will and Minnie after they break into the Pizza plez (instead of Gregory originally) and make Moon create a report on their break in.
Long story short for THAT fiasco is that Minnie wanted to test out Moons reaction to a break in, but wanted to see it in person. So after sending in her hired “thief” they go in, and scare Moon (cause 6”5 human who stops breathing when you look at them and 5”5 human who drops to the floor and starts foaming at the mouth Is Something He Was NOT programmed for) And escape.
Minnie’s company was not impressed and assigned PI to make sure they didn’t break in again.
They did.
And this time they were supervised!
Comet comes in as the Emotional Support security guard, who also gets spooked by the Victorian ghost, feral man, and GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL who break in.
Comet ends up helping them to communicate between companies a lot, and develop Heart and Stars AI.
Comet and Minnie end up as a couple, and PI and Will end up together.
It’s mainly just a crack fic for my friends with some cute animatronic OC’s I’ve made (and Pegasus)
Here’s what you’ve been waiting for this hole time!
My cannon hights list!!!:
Dj: 10”
Moon: 6”7
Pegasus: 6”6
Minnie: 6”5 (6”3) [With then without heels]
Chica: 6”4
Monty: 6”2
Freddy: 6”
Map bot: 5”10 (Favorite bot get a different hight)
PI: 5”8
Security bot: 5”6
Feral bastard man, (Will):5”5
Roxy: 5”4
ESSG(Comet): 5”3
Wet floor sign: 3”
Star: 2”6
Baby music man: 2”
Heart: 1”6
Cheese: “10 [Will’s animatronic friend]
SCREEEEE(Twilight): “6 [Comets animatronic friend]

Wow Cat, entitled much? College is not a guarantee to a "comfortable living". It's a path chosen by the user in hopes of turning that sheep skin into a livelihood that pays well. It isn't always the end result and 9 times out of 10 it's because the person who went to college didn't take into account what the degree's median pay would be. I can't tell you how many times a person has sat across from me and said something to the effect of "I have "X" degree and that should be worth something more, something extra." When I asked them what the median wage of that degree is their eyes would glaze over and there head would tilt like a puppy with no answer. It's because these people never looked into what their chosen degree path COULD MAKE, they just assume the sheep skin means more money. WRONG. Let's take Cat here as an example: Cat is going to graduate with a degree in Political Science and Geography, you know two of the 7 Social Science degrees (History, political science, geography, economics, psychology, sociology, and anthropology.) and 4th in line or middle of the road when it comes to money making degrees.
Per a Georgetown University study, her chosen degree paths starts at about 33k a year with a median wage of 60k a year, but she wants to start at 50k, because college reason. Now lets get to her inflation argument that bypasses huge things to make her argument work like the Consumer Price Index and the actual inflation rate. Cat was born in 2002, not 1982 so she knows shit about living in the 80's or the 70's. In 1980 the inflation rate was 13.9% in 1981 it was 11.8%, for the first 19 years of her life the highest inflation rate that her parents, not her, had to deal with was 4.3% in 2008. 2002's was 7.5% and 2023 6.4%, Guess what happened in 2022, our government went on a spending spree that has not stopped. The average inflation rate for her entire life is 2.3%. (All of the parentage are based of January numbers for each year rather than the highest or lowest for the entire year. Years like 2009 and 2015 where inflation rates were in negative percentages I made them zero %.) Side note: before 2009 you have to go back to 1955 before you find negative inflation rates again. From 1970 to 1990 the average inflation rate was 6.8285714285714%, just shy of 3 time higher than what she is complaining about, and her folks did it on a lower wage. Enter the Consumer Price index. From 2002 to today in 2023 the average Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) is 2.5304347826087%, and from 1970 to 1990 it was 6.2714285714286%, you guessed it, almost 3 times higher again. Of course the governments reckless spending and financing wars all over hell in back has started impacting EVERYONES bottom line, Cat is apparently just learning this. Cat, you need to earn a comfortable living, not have it handed to you. You need to work your ass up from the starting line not start closer to the top. It's not a Boomer, Gen X, Gen Z or what ever else is out there thing, its a you have never worked in your field thing, you just might suck at it thing and employers are not going to pay you on the work you might be able to do or the work ethic you might have, they are going to pay you as an employee that has limited work history, get used to it. I was born in 1970 got my first job, one of only 3 I ever had, in 1986. I did not earn over 41k a year until 2009, that was with a family of 4. Between my Bride and I we earned 4 1/2 degrees and took on no debt. How did we do it, work and save, living within our means and a budget. Guess what effects us much less becasue we pay cash for things, inflation. Not holding debt frees you up to do so many more things with your cash on hand. It's was less about inflation, although that is killing just about everyone now and more to do with piss poor advanced planning on Cat's part. Example: Had Cat looked into STEM degrees, you know a field short of female applicants, where the median starting yearly wage is 43k, with an expected yearly median wage of 76k per year, her outlook for earned wages would be much different. So, in short, Cat is pointing her anger at the wrong place, she shot herself in the foot taking on degrees with limited earning potential and in over saturated job markets rather than a more technical, less saturated job field that pays more all the way around.
“I think that if you go to college, you deserve to be able to make enough to live comfortably,” she asserts. “I think if you don’t go to college you should be able to make enough to live comfortably.” Comfortably, is relative to the person, and has more to do with, well comfort than economics. That's not how life works Cat. Maybe you should have paid a little more attention to those finance and economics classes.

Thinking about doing art as a life thing. Like in a general sense. Theres this stigma that if you do art as a living youre going to be a starving artist. It isnt that far from the truth but I also dont think its like that entirely either. Of course current economic atmosphere is playing a big part, but thats affecting EVERY family not just artists.
Im thinking how so many families try to drive out the idea of being an artist out of peoples heads as a career when they dont understand how vast the choices are. Is designing this lamp on your desk not art? Is building that dinner table not art? Are all the graphics online and UI and icons not art? All the childrens books, and childrens TV, all the special effects in marvel and costume making and prop design and building in real life and 3D. Is that not art?
Families have this immediate train of thought of traditional paintings set up in galleries selling for millions once the artist dies. When in reality thats not really the case. Most fine arts artists set their prices as fairly affordable. They dont want art to be a rich people thing. They want you to enjoy the piece and not break your back while still being paid for their labor.
Its crazy to me. An artist I used to be taught by did childrens workshops and earned a living that way. Almost every member of the museum I know has a main job (whether it relates to art or not is up to them.)
If you want to take up art as your primary source of living then of course you need a backup. But theres isnt any unmarried/unpartnered person that works and can afford their own home. Hell, I got a job that pays pretty average and I wouldnt afford living alone. People who know the risk, still do it, and have no extra funds or savings under their belt have a hard time when they DO move out suddenly realise it wasnt a wise choice. But not because the career is art. Its because any starting job doesnt allow for living alone. Not in this economy.
Which goes back to that stereotype of a failing artist.
Listen when you put your mind to something you WILL achieve it. It will be hard there will be hurdles but if you have the determination and perseverance you. will. achieve. your goals. With help or without. Whether its in your 20s, or your 30s, maybe even 50s. Life doesnt end at 20.
But theres still this one thing that nags me. Because growing up (and im sure others can relate) all the negativity from family only spurred me on. I was going to be successful in one way or another. And you know what? Im proud of where i am. I have a job in the industry with 3 years under my belt now. I have an online shop and can table at cons. Im part of a local group where we sell our art. And, I am part of a gallery now. Im pretty stable, and I am happy. I havent moved out but Im building my savings until I can.
And you know what my family tells me?
"Why dont you become an accountant since this isnt working out?"
Its this paradox of wanting to prove yourself to someone who will never see you as equal, who is never going to see the world through the eyes of an artist and opportunist (because lets be honest, thats what we are) and watch you succeed and climb and do things they once told you were unachievable.... And then still hold your hand and gently ask you, with eyes filled with pity and worry for things which dont exist, if maybe you should consider an office job instead.

Sup. xD
No, but really. Hi guys! Long time no see.
I see that Tumblr's changed, and believe me I'm re-learning how to use it. xD
So, um...usual life update I guess, you don't have to read this but I have to get this out of my system or I'll go crazy xD.
Honestly I really miss blogging and talking about fandoms, hobbies and whatnot. It's literally been over a year since I last blogged and there's a reason for that: literally no work-life balance at my old job. I say 'old' because I finally quit this year!! I'm really glad to be out of that soul-sucking hellhole xD For reference, I used to work at one of the Big Four accounting firms as an auditor, think hard before going in haha. The pay may be good...but at what cost?
Tumblr media
For a while even when I left I couldn't stop thinking about work, I would always worry that there's something that hasn't been finished yet, and believe me at that kind of job the workload is endless Orz. On the plus side I did get experience, but I'm waaayyyy more glad to be out than in, believe me guys, work-life balance is something that everyone should have, I don't know what it's like in other countries (do feel free to share, I'm quite curious) but there's a reason so many foreign professionals choose not to work in Taiwan:
The pay is low. Especially compared to Japan and South Korea. As of now minimum wage is NTD 26,400 (USD 836) per month, and NTD 176 (USD) per hour, the thing is it's seriously not keeping up with inflation here. Bento used to cost NTD 60~70 when I was in college! Now it's NTD 90~100 on average.
Hours are long. Not all jobs are like this, but you are expected to do overtime without additional pay in most.
A lot of bosses here just...don't know leadership skills? Like they know how to work, but are awful at teaching and leading subordinates. Both Mom and I complain that the EQ of some locals is quite low ^^" No seriously, you do something well and somehow it's always your fault xD People here can be too materialistic sometimes and don't spend enough time on enriching themselves and others. It's really the fault of long work hours as well as the cram school culture here.
So yeah..welp.
My new job (accounting staff at a SME) may be lower pay but at least I get to come home earlier now, which honestly is a relief. Also weekends off. You'd be extremely lucky to get a weekend off at the old job xD
In a way, my Dad spoiled our family xD Because he was too nice we got really used to this rosy portrait of Taiwan and the locals xD But yeah, Mom, Bro and I will find ways to carry on.
Tumblr media
Well enough about that! I hope everyone's getting on well with their lives, even when it's tough, there are always ways to carry on. ╰(*´︶`*)╯
I haven't been 100% offline actually xD Just a lot of lurking xD
Some things I've been up to:
You are now looking at a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fan xD JJBA lives in my head rent-free and I don't regret it at all, I want to slap past me for not following JoJo sooner, especially as an avid fan of music and fashion. My brother’s pestering of me to watch it finally came to. I don't read manga, have watched Parts 1~6 (and made my Mom watch it with me ha xD she practically got almost all the music references xD) and am excited for a Part 7 anime!! Which could take forever sadly :( Along with Arcane Season 2, it’s been a while since there’s a show that I really look forward to watching, what with the current state of TV and movies nowadays. Too much on content and not enough on quality or well, basic storytelling even.
But I'm sad that I can't go to JOJO WORLD. QQ I really have a knack for getting into things too late.
Tumblr media
My personal ranking: 2>5>3>4>1>6. This is just personal favoritism xD Each part has their own strengths and weaknesses and the writing in later parts is better as Araki has really matured as a mangaka and writer. But Part 2 is amazing. Period. I will not have it any other way. Special mention goes to this guy for simultaneously stealing my heart and *ahem* crushing (sorry) it, I have only cried for him:
Tumblr media
He and Joseph should kiss.
2. I got into gaming again! Thank Steam really for letting lots of players save money on not having to buy separate consoles xD I got my brother to help me invest in a good gaming laptop, and it's just lovely. Some of my favorite games:
METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE
I got to experience Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and my god it's a MASTERPIECE. The OST also is just *chef's kiss*. The composer really did a great job with the music. The animation that plays every time Raiden uses Zandatsu is an absolute joy to watch xD My brother introduced this game to me through the memes, and he immediately regretted it when it was all I could talk about for a while xD But god slicing a Metal Gear in two while Rules of Nature plays in the background, how can you not squee?! xD
youtube
Mind you this is the tutorial boss xD I highly recommend this game, pure unadulterated adrenaline rush xD It’s so over-the-top and unapologetic, and just damn cool.
SEKIRO: SHADOWS DIE TWICE
I also beat Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. And as of now, it's still the best sense of achievement that I got from a game, it's the most difficult game I've ever played and let me tell you guys I'm good friends with the death screen xD
Tumblr media
The adrenaline rush I got from beating Genichiro for the first time (and throwing the lightning back at him!!) as well as beating Sword Saint Isshin was unreal. At some point, the gameplay for me clicked, and it was immensely satisfying being able to perfectly parry the enemy's attacks. The clanging of swords is a sound that I absolutely love.
Though fuck Demon of Hatred xD. Joke I love the Sculptor character who I affectionately call 'Sculptor Dad' but come on you had to unlearn the game's combat system just to beat him. I agree that he's more of a Dark Souls boss than a Sekiro one.
Well deserving of 2019 Game of the Year 👏
DEVIL MAY CRY V
So you can probably see by now that I love action and hack and slash games xD I used to play Devil May Cry 3 when I was a teenager and even watched the Madhouse anime, the over-the-top-ness and Dante's quips won me over. Dante’s even the whole reason why I tried strawberries and now I love them xD So! It was only natural that I wanted to play DMCV, and I wasn't disappointed.
Tumblr media
There’s a total of 4 characters you can play as, each with their own SSStylish gameplay, and I had lots of fun just sending the demons into the air while the extremely enthusiastic cast cheers me on xD
Also V is that Edgy Guy who’s a hit with the ladies xD My brother hates him but I adore him. He even said that I’m a sucker for the “starving artist types xD Well…
Tumblr media
HOW CAN I NOT BE A SUCKER QQ That smirk, dear god.
HADES
youtube
0:34 sold me haha 😂
You play as this really sexy Prince of Hell with daddy issues.
While Sekiro would frustrate me sometimes with constantly dying, every time I died in Hades it encouraged me to keep on playing, as whenever you die it actually advances the plot and unlocks new dialogue with the various characters, who are based on Greek mythology. If anything the game encourages you to die xD There was a time I was so determined to make it to the surface and when I did it was the next morning already xD

The art by Jen Zee is also just extremely gorgeous, and the OST by Darren Korb (who also voices Zagreus) is amazing. I also recommend Supergiant’s other games Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre. They are one of the best indie game developers out there. They put a lot of heart into their games, which is something a lot of AAA games lack nowadays.
Also I headcanon that Zagreus listens to Coldrain while hacking and slashing through hell. It just seems like a band he would listen to xD
And not to forget, but thank Supergiant for giving the option to romance this really sexy grim reaper xD I'm a sucker for the 'tsundere' types too, and let me tell you every bottle of gifted nectar and ambrosia was worth it. When he finally realized his feelings weren't unnecessary I squeeed.

DISCO ELYSIUM
Last but not least, an underrated gem.
Disco Elysium is one of those games that shouldn’t exist, and boy am I glad that it does.
It’s a choose your adventure game in which you play as a detective trying to solve a murder case with your partner, all the while getting to know the seaside town of Martinaise. Which once you get to explore it, isn't really that big and yet somehow feels huge, there's a whole fictional history that was created for it and for places outside Martinaise even, the worldbuilding for this game is insane. It also seems very real and similar to our own and yet it's all fictional, I really admire that level of detail.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I actually first heard of this game through an artist I follow on Tumblr, who draws True Detective and Disco Elysium fanart. I adore the first season of True Detective and never knew that MartyxRust does things to me. Read reviews about this so-called "True Detective/The Wire-inspired" game and was sold.
Also the developers really hit it out of the park with Kim Kitsuragi, god I love Kim 😭 One of the best companions that you can have out there. Whenever I felt bad and by extension made my player character feel bad (the game is choice-based, there's even an achievement called 'World's Sorriest Cop' xD), Kim would always be helpful and encouraging and god just the sweetest.
The humor in the game is also something I just found so charming, and the voice acting is perfect for every character, I find myself having fun mimicking the voices a lot. I kept pestering my brother to play this game, and his Evrart Claire impression is so spot-on, I myself like to impersonate the Fritte clerk with my 'm'kays' xD
Tumblr media
Oh, and you can start a nightclub at a church. And believe me when you experience this scene in the game, it is glorious.
3. I had one of those 'happiest days in your life' moments: I went to see the GazettE's MASS final concert in Japan!! And the crazy thing is I specifically flew in just to see them, I was there in Japan for the concert and went home the next day. At the time I had booked my airline ticket thinking I would still be clocking in to my old job on Monday and well, I never thought I would quit xD
And silly me never thought that even Japanese trains could be late (the local trains at least), I was almost late to the 05:30 PM assembly time xD
By the time I got to the Budokan I was confused by the lack of banners and signs at the entrance at first, then I saw this procession of people in black heading to MASS (ha) and just knew. xD
And I thought I was the only one silly enough to fly to another country for a concert, then I heard Mandarin, English, Spanish in the crowd and thought: 'ah, music really brings people together'. It was beautiful.

Seeing the bouquet with the 'From overseas fans (Overseas fans より)' made me all warm and fuzzy inside.
Tumblr media
Too shy to take my own picture xD But glad to know I'm not the only one extremely happy to be there.
Tumblr media
I tried to take a picture of this Uruha banner and it just kept flapping in the wind like Uruha during the heavier songs, so I just gave up xD
Tumblr media
The setlist for that night, when they played Miseinen (未成年) I think I started tearing up QQ Frankly the whole night was so surreal I couldn't stop thinking about what I experienced on my way back to the hotel. And I stayed at a capsule hotel for the first time! Specifically this one.
The song they played after the concert was an instrumental version of Knockin' On Heaven's Door, and it was absolutely lovely. They even teased a trailer for a new release next year(!!) and a trailer for their Christmas concert A HYMN OF THE CRUCIFIXION ver.2

Their trailers are needless to say, cinematic. I'm sad that they removed all their older trailers off YouTube though :(
As of writing this, there are still stuff I want to share and fangirl about, but unfortunately I have to wake up to a job tomorrow xD If I could, I'd spend my days just doing what I love and not having to deal with stupidity at work. I just want to say I'm glad that there are things in life to enjoy and make going through the daily grind even just a bit easier :)

Alright. Here we are a few weeks out from Christmas and the end of the year, and I'm living my best life.
Two years ago at this point in time I was literally dying, sleeping all the time, brain fog, losing weight, stumbling through work, hoping like hell COVID would decline enough that I could have a surgery to remove the supposedly benign cyst that turned out to be a malignant baseball-sized ovarian cancer.
Then I got to examine my five year plan for the rest of my projected life, followed by 'well actually you might be fine; this particular kind of cancer is different from other ovarian ones, don't worry about it.'
It's been a pretty good run and as far as I can tell, I now have an average life span ahead of me. It gets a little dicey after 10 years (or probably 8 at this point), but at my age that's to be expected.
The best life part: I'm finally not worried about money. I'm still not living with an abusive shithead (he died 8 years ago). My parents are alive and reasonably healthy (for 70+ year olds). My boyfriend is with me, kind, reasonable, and accommodating. I have an engaging job that pays a lot. My kids are healthy. I own my house and I really like it.
I enjoy writing and fandom.
I don't have much in the way of friends, boyfriend aside and frankly I'm not always sure how to properly engage with him. Trump and other things have strained relations with my writing partner, but we're trying. A couple of the people I asked to meet in person when I was in Europe a few months ago declined and I take that as a general vote of no-confidence. (Also, if any of you guys are ever around Tulsa, I would be ecstatic to meet you, treat you to dinner, or whatever else.) The people I was friends with in real life around here have moved away in the last few years - to Kansas, to North Carolina, to Florida. Even some of my boyfriend's friends have moved away. (these moves were all job-related; they weren't due to me. I'm not that offensive. Ha.)
So I'm kind of lonely, but I have all my other needs met. And I've been estranged from people nearly all my life. That's what gave my abusive ex such a hold over me.
My priorities for the new year are:
Get better at my job. I started it four months ago and I'm still learning. I want to work it for five years or so and then I should be able to retire for the rest of my life. Yay!
Write fanfiction. It reliably makes me happy, engages my imagination, and my mental friends are fascinating and present in my life.
Re-engage with something physical. Brazilian jujitsu is fine. Running would be fine if my joints would cooperate (actually, same can be said of BJJ). I don't like hurting when I exercise. I need to figure that one out.

Do you have any advice / resources / ancient magics to make, like. Combat flowcharts or something of that nature to streamline decision making?
We're coming into the final battle of our campaign and the DM asked us to find ways to help make combat smoother – we're averaging an hour per round, with dozens of abilities and items each, and us DPS rolling upwards of 20 dice per turn. Obviously by now we've found ways to streamline (pre rolling, side chat, etc) but if we hit a snag on WHAT to do bc of a Counterspell or silence or someone going down, it comes screeching to a halt.
IDK you feel like someone who probably has an excel spreadsheet accounting for every possible scenario :P
funnily enough i have been toying with the idea of switching my own personal technique for combat tracking as a player to a spreadsheet which i recently did with encounter tracking from the DM side, but I haven't really dug into that at all because I know it would make me lose my mind trying to set up the automation while making it look aesthetically pleasing.
that being said, i have two pieces of commentary and i'll also share a few of my own strategies as well as two personal anecdotes to try to explain what i mean:
a) don't make a flow chart. no clue if you'll see these posts but as of writing this (12pm EST July 13th) I've just gone on a minor rampage talking about how I don't think flow charts are worth it even though that's the one of the current pieces meta in online TTRPG spaces because of aabria / laerynn, which is fine if it works for her and it IS fine if it works for other people.
however, in my opinion, i think flow charts will do a bad job of preparing anyone for the unpredictability of combat and will actually pigeonhole you into using the same strategies over and over again because they look good on paper and are written down in front of you. i don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to write down cool combos or have information in front of you (spoiler alert, i do that) but i think the term flow chart and the idea of an 'if/then' structure is going to be fundamentally useless and stress inducing.
b) speaking as someone whose been on both the player and dm side of this, if your rounds of combat are taking over an hour, this is an entire table problem. this is on the dm for their encounter design / the pace they take as the opposition (whether it's managing too many NPCS/monsters; too complicated statblocks, or indecision) as well as their need to keep things flowing at the table. It also largely depends on party size, if you're a big party, a longer round is normal, but everyone should be moving fairly fast. i'd ask your table as a whole what they think the issue is and and how to remedy it as a whole, not just one 'side' of the table.
now onto my strategies for both of these things. i'm going to explain my version of 'flow charts' last because it'll have screenshots and get long and i want to put something else before i slap in a readmore
my #1 tip for how to pay attention in combat and how to be better at combat is use other players turns to develop your strategy.
use their turns. pay attention to what they're doing so you can base your next turn off of the current state of the board, listen to what they're doing so you can remind them 'hey you've got a bardic' or if you can throw a reaction to counterspell, throw it then. otherwise: this is the time to look up your spells or other complicated abilities and make sure you've read the fine print. that way when it gets to your turn in combat you have the most informed, updated plan of what you can do.
now i'll throw my pc combat tracker under the cut as well as some personal anecdotes for why i think flow charts aren't the right choice
i've made an extensive post about how i think the best thing someone can do when designing a character's combat strategy and options is think about your action economy.
now, ignore anything that looks not RAW, this was a oneshot with funky combat rules (everyone had action surge and extra attack regardless of class; dm is insane for this) and i was using a homebrew warlock subclass, but the fundamental layout is the exact same i use for any character, I just like this example because it's not too crowded
Tumblr media
fuck a flow chart, all you need is your abilities laid out in front of you. I think it is much more helpful to sort via action economy and leave shorthand for myself on what things do and use another document or something like 5etools to keep all of the fine print for when I need to look into them.
Then, the ability tracker is key. Not only does this help you keep track of what resources you've expended, it keeps everything super close together. i left the attacks / item information section in this screenshot because it shows that this is quite literally the only thing i'm looking at in combat 95% of the time. my health and AC is at the top of my sheet because that's how my sheets are structured but frankly, if i switch over to spreadsheet pc combat trackers they'll be smushed in here as well.
this gives you all of your fundamental information laid out in front of you so you can develop your strategy on the fly and make the most of every single piece of your action economy you have. I also enjoy having the miscellaneous actions section because again, sometimes i forget they exist and they're quite good. also occasionally i'll use item information or ability tracking to keep little notes for myself when i have something like bardic inspiration or want to remind myself to cast a spell.
why i find this more useful than a flow chart is that it lets you rely on your own intuition and the situation at play instead of a set strategy, which really just doesn't work for dnd in my opinion.
why i think flow charts aren't a great idea i've already talked about but here are two personal stories from recent combat that i think summarize it with an actual play example:
Curse of Strahd, Yester Hill Fight. The gimmick of which was that the druids were concentrating on summoning animals that were whooping our ass and were super spread out. we needed to crush their concentration as fast as possible. In one turn, I beat the concentration out of two different druids a bit over 150 ft. apart. How? I was hasted. A situational thing that you couldn't plan for in a flow chart. I also had no idea WHAT the encounter would look like to plan for it. I had to rely on what the circumstances were and what I had on my character sheet in front of me. Ophelia uses Dhampir stats so i had a 35 ft. movement speed, with haste that's 70 ft. + a hasted action. I used blood cursed of the mark to deal extra damage and gain advantage (bonus action) and my first attack (action) to make a bite attack against one druid. It hit, and because I'm a mage slayer they have disadvantage on their concentration check. I also used bite empowerment (free action) to get a bonus to my next ability check or attack roll. I then used my hasted action to dash, moving 140 ft towards the other druid, to make my second attack (still of my attack action), with a +7 (i believe) additional bonus to hit, and used lunging attack (free action) on my chainwhip to get the 15 ft reach necessary to hit the second. The attack landed, and the druid again, had disadvantage on concentration. Both druids dropped concentration. This is a turn you cannot replicate on a flow chart. There's no logical reason in a vacuum to take one attack, dash and move 140 ft away and take your second attack. There's no way to even know you could move that far. Why I was able to do this was because I was able to look at my action economy and all of my abilities in a condensed way and calculate how to use every single thing I possibly could to do what we needed to do to get control back over the encounter.
The Frayed Mind. This is an example from Gestalt game so ignore if the abilities sound absolutely bonkers powerful, they are, but the same theory of planning a flow chart around 'the most optimal choices' isn't helpful. Rualinn's build is primarily based around stacking upcasted shadow blade (psychic damage) and smites (radiant). The boss we were fighting, the Frayed Mind, as well as most of the enemies in this area, were immune to psychic damage. This meant my character's primary strength and what she was built to do wasn't going to cut it here. Which is fine, I love a challenge, and I think DMs SHOULD challenge what they know their players can do to make them think outside of the box. So what I had to do for this entire arc was realize: I could not play Rualinn optimally the way I built her to fight, however, I still had a ton of versatility and options to readjust as needed. I started relying more on physical damage she could do as well as using her spellcasting for more than just smites. I used her radiant consumption for the first time, used my action surge to cast Fly for maneuverability on the battlefield instead of extra attacks, used Watchers Will for the first time as well. It was a super fun area and boss fight even though I was getting my ass kicked, it made me play to the other strengths of the build I put together. If you put together a list of just the most optimal choices, you won't ever see what the unoptimized choices are. And frankly, most of the time you'll have to make 'unoptimized' choices. Combat is about making due with the situation and the the best you can do the moment.
tldr; i think using flow charts pigeonholes you into options that sound good but could end up not being applicable / keep you from being prepared for things going wrong, the individual challenges of boons of combat you can't predict, etc.
if you want to get 'good' at combat, know your action economy, track your abilities, and use other players turns to plan your strategy as the encounter changes and develops. your plan on the wizard's turn might change by the time you hit the cleric's turn because the fighter's now been knocked and you're the person who could get them up fasted instead of attacking, etc etc.
