Stucky Fic Recs Part 2 - will add later
Bucky and Steve's Excellent Adventure by blue_beans I Chapters: 48/48 I Completed Post-Avengers: Endgame Bucky Barnes is very suicidal for a good chunk of this, Sentient Infinity Stones, Fix-It fic, Action/Adventure, Time Travel, slow burn
Six months ago, Steve set out on a final mission to return the infinity stones to their proper timelines, and returned a minute later having lived out a life of peace and contentment with Peggy Carter in the past. He died in his sleep a few days later, surrounded by his friends. Or so Bucky assumes. He wouldn't know, he'd been busy being locked up on the Raft while the government decided whether or not to pardon him for the whole Winter Soldier thing. What with the court-mandated therapy and the constant surveillance by alphabet agencies and the crushing weight of his past, he's not sure if giving him a chance at "normal life" is more cruel than the alternative. But he's doing fine. Great, actually, so don't ask. He didn't have a nightmare. Especially not that strangely disturbing one about Steve... *** AKA I wanted to write the reverse time-heist and I'm still salty about Endgame. This is the result.
Seasons of War by eretria I Chapters 11/11 I Completed Friends to Lovers, World War II, war horrors, Dark
Chasing Bucky, always a step behind, Steve remembers the cycle of seasons that took him from the raw and naive young man to the Captain America who led the Howling Commandos into hell and, except for Bucky, out again. As his memories center on Bucky, one question haunts him: Is the Bucky he knew in the war the same one he knew before?
ampersand by kaydeefalls I Chapters 1/1 I one shot World War II, Friends to Lovers, the Winter Soldier started long before Bucky fell from the train
They've been steveandbucky since they were kids, but that ignores the parts of their lives that don't wrap around each other, that never did. (Bucky needs to figure out who he is, just him, with or without Steve.)
In Vain by kireteiru I Chapters 1/1 I one shot James "Bucky" Barnes/Steve Rogers(unrequited), Peggy Carter/Steve Rogers, Endgame, All hurt no comfort, not a fix it :(
"Nothing of the heart remains, Even if we could've stayed, We've been here long enough, Long enough to know it's all in vain. Everything we tried to say, Up until the final day, I guess we said enough, Said enough to know it's all in vain." _ "In Vain", Within Temptation (Resist) A choice was made, and now the world will bear its consequences.
i'm the furthest thing from heaven, but the closest to home by @buckyismybicycle I Chapters: 6/6 I Completed Guardian Angel Bucky, Identity Reveal, Canon Divergence, Memory Loss
When Steve loses Bucky in Kreischberg, he’s lost the only thing left he cares about. He crashes the Valkyrie into the Arctic, ready to be reunited with his love, but instead, he’s saved by an angel. Except this angel isn’t like the ones he’s read about — no, his angel is armed to the teeth and has wings the colour of blood and night. Yet, there’s something eerily familiar about this angel.
Good God, Let Me Give You My Life by @bellefyre I Chapters 6/6 I Completed Bucky/others, One-Sided Relationship, Non-Consensual Touching, rape, Hydra, Steve/Bucky is Endgame
5+1 meme, five people over the decades who fell in love with the Winter Soldier and died because of him and the one person the Winter Soldier loved and lived because of him.
How to Woo the Winter Soldier by @writeonclara I Chapters 6 /6 I Completed funny fic, gift giving, Steve falls for the Winter Soldier before finding out his Identity, Courting, Identity Reveal, Identity Porn, bad ideas
“I think I’m ready to date again,” Steve said. “What,” Natasha said. “What?” Clint said, lowering his binoculars. He blinked at the dumbstruck look on the Captain’s face, then followed his gaze to where he was staring dopily at—at the Winter fucking Soldier. “Steve, no,” Clint groaned. Or: Steve courts the Winter Soldier.
Ready to Comply by @exclamation I Chapters 31/31 I Completed Canon Divergence - Post-CA: The Winter Soldier, Dehumanization, Hurt/Comfort-But Mostly Hurt, Angst, Protective Steve Rogers
The asset's orders at the end of The Winter Soldier weren't to kill Captain America, but to capture him, so that he could be wiped and turned into another asset. The asset has succeeded in that mission, capturing its target and taking him back to the Hydra base. But the Hydra soldiers are dead, captured, or fled, so there is no one there to give the asset new orders. Alone with its captive, the asset has no instructions on how it is meant to act. But the more time it spends with its target, the more old protocols start to assert themselves, like the protocol that when that face is hurt and bleeding, the asset is supposed to clean away the blood.
From Grit to Pearl by @bluesimplicity73 I Chapters 38/38 I Completed Bucky & Rebecca Barnes, Bucky Recovering, Body Horror, BAMF Bucky, BAMF Rebecca Barnes, Angst, AU - Canon Divergence, Hydra
He does not have a name. He has been called many things over the years; a weapon, a ghost, HYDRA’s Fist, the Soldier, and from what they have told him his work has shaped the century. But he does not have a name. His name, like so many other things, has been taken from him, stolen. Forgotten. Until the day it is not, and remembering, he breaks free, killing his handler and making his escape in a desperate bid for freedom. Frightened, lost and hurt, he seeks out the last person in the world he can trust, his baby sister, now an almost eighty-year-old widow, somehow knowing she is the only one who can help him. It is a difficult journey, one filled with pain, tears, and things that should not be possible. But also with recovery and redemption, rebirth and miracles, family and hope. This story is a love letter between Bucky and his sister Rebecca, the world, and eventually his childhood best friend, Steve Rogers, the boy he once loved. But ultimately, it is the love letter Bucky writes to himself, as he reclaims who he once was, discovers who he is now, builds a new life for himself and realizes he might, just might, be as strong, as beautiful, as precious as a pearl.

This is a call out/rant post for the MCU(Marvel Cinematic Universe.) I just rewatched Captain America: The Winter Soilder. And I just have to say. Endgame was absolute bullish!t. I will forever be salty about Endgame, but not for the reasons people tend to think. I’m pissed off at one Steven James Rogers. F u you punk ass b!tch. You think you get to just skip out on us like that!? Till the end of the line means until the end of the line. Bucky is so much more understanding then me. Man I wish my s/o would pull that on me. I will travel to the past and pull your scrawny ass back myself. You’re going to group therapy to process your issues in a healthy constructive way just like all the rest of us. As far as I’m concerned, everything that happened after Black Panther isn’t canon. It never happened. I live in a world where everyone is happy and no one died. Infinity War? What’s that? Wanda Vision? Doesn’t ring a bell. Multiverse of Madness? Who’s she never heard of her. Spider Man No Way Home? Lmao NEW PHONE WHO DISS-

I just feel like if they nominated films like Avatar (the first one was soooo boring; haven't seen the second one) and Top Gun: Maverick, then Avengers Endgame and Infinity War should have also gotten in in their respective years. Both were better than those Avatar films. And Black Panther Wakandna Forever should have been there this year!!!! There seems to be a real bias against anything Marvel, which sucks.
I hope Angela Bassett gets her Oscar tonight. Nobody in that category is more deserving.
I didn’t bother watching the second Avatar because the first one was so boring to me. Sorry to any fans of it. Top Gun got a ton of positive attention all year, so I wasn’t too surprised when it made the cut.
But I’m with you, I’ll be bummed if Angela Bassett doesn’t win tonight. I think the only other person I’d be okay with winning over her would be Stephanie Hsu, but my overall choice is still Angela. If Jamie Lee Curtis comes out of nowhere again and beats them both I’m going to be a little salty 🦎

for the ask meme: stevetony, thorki, a fate ship of your choice
AH, I DIDN'T SEE THIS UNTIL NOW.
(in response to this meme.)
steve/tony - C: Not a bad ship.
your enthusiasm for it has endeared it to me! and my god do i see where comics shippers are coming from. you all are eating there. i am most familiar with its mcu permutation, however, and i am still sad to report that i can't quite see the start of it there. a lot of the fallout lands with things like civil war, but the foundation never really sold me. i am very fond of it as sort of like a...nephew of a ship, though! i want to buy it nice gifts for the holidays and on its birthday.
thor/loki - okay, this is a slightly complicated one because my opinion varies on whether i am excluding ragnarok and endgame or not. so, i'll do them separately.
excluding ragnarok and endgame - A: I love it.
the first two thor films are nothing special, but that dynamic just works for me. thor's at his most charming as an impulsive meathead of a prince who learns to temper himself and loki's at his most loki. it's a really great combination of personalities, and the way the constipated emotions boil over in tdw still makes tdw a solid enough watch for me. i love complicated sibling relationships!
including ragnarok and endgame - F: NOTP.
my disdain for ragnarok is something you know well, amanda, so i'll restrain myself from going on a salty rant. but, in short, it dumps everything i had liked about thor's characterization and extra dumps anything enjoyable about his relationship with loki. infinity war was the least decent thor characterization in the mcu, and christ above does endgame just shit the bed it had already fucking shat. loki's back! but not in a form that retains any of his character development. : ) thor's there! but all of his grief is undercut by him being a funny fat joke. : ) there's parts of endgame that are okay, but i increasingly look back on it less fondly. i have zero interest for either thor or any ship involving him that takes cues from these films' characterizations of him.
yu meiren/prince of lanling - B: It’s really cute.
you let me have my pick, so why not go with a really odd rare pair of mine! paisen is married. she is Big Married. she is so married that she's the equivalent to a wife guy--a husband lady. and i do really think how much she loves her husband in any form, including as a four-armed mecha centaur, is incredibly sweet. but it can tend to subsume her character, so i have a slight preference for her interaction with lanling. he's the only other human she ever seemed to form a close bond with, and man, the best part of lb3 is the prologue, imo. they're incredibly cute in summer 5, too. she's just fully herself around him and comfortable even when he is like "yu meiren pls don't be trash talking humans for the fifteenth time today..." he really loves her, and he's her favorite non-xiang yu human, and it's an impossible ship, but gosh dang it, i really like their dynamic!

So after the latest episode of WandaVision (which made me cry, not gonna lie), I’m even more pissed off at Infinity War and Endgame. Like, they had Wanda kill the love of her life for the greater good. Which fucked her up (understatement of the year) and then it didn’t even matter, because Tony was the one who ended it all. And he got a funeral and everyone is there and he’s the ultimate hero. What did Wanda get? A little conversation with Hawkeye in which SHE had to bring up Vision. Because Hawkeye was talking about Natasha. And then the person we’ve seen her confide in before (Steve) fucks off back to the 40s. No support system for Wanda, she’ll be fine probably *shrugs*. It’s not as if she lost her parents when she was young, lost her brother thanks to the person everyone now sees as the ultimate hero and now the love of her life. And no one is comforting her.

14 & 22 for the ask meme
Hey! You’re the first person to ever put something in my inbox, so thank you! :) I’m assuming you mean the salty ask meme? In that case…
14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom? Now, I don’t know if you’re asking me these so that I’ll be penalized or shunned in fandom, so please no one attack me for my opinion, but I don’t actually mind the Ragnarok, IW, and Endgame discourse? I get why lots of people avoid it, and I have to as well after a while, because discourse in general makes me feel really uncomfortable (it’s draining, and makes me feel helpless all the time) but the people who have written metas about it have been quite insightful, and detailed. I’m not going to tell them how to do fandom because sometimes releasing and talking about all the reasons why you don’t like something can be liberating, so I don’t mind it, and it did clear up some reasons for me why I felt uncomfortable a lot while watching Ragnarok, IW, and Endgame, but again, I feel like this is an unpopular opinion.  I mean, if you don’t want to read it, just filter your tags, unfollow, or block? (I dunno I’m new to tumblr I don’t know how this works. I also will probably not have much, if any, discourse on my own blog, but if I do, any negativity will be tagged.)
22. Popular character you hate. Alright, disclaimer, I don’t really “hate” any fictional characters because that would be a bit…I dunno, I just feel uncomfortable with that. If I really dislike them, I don’t really have any energy to put into hating them, I just feel general indifference toward them, but if we’re talking mcu, I guess I just absolutely don’t like Thanos. I know he’s not that popular in general, but he’s popular among some dudebros, and I know I’m going for the safe option here, but I just don’t like him. If we’re talking game of thrones, I guess I just, point blank, don’t like Ramsay Bolton. Props to the actor though, he was amazing.
Anyway, thanks for the ask! This was kind of fun :) (Please no one attack me for my opinions…)

This is going to be an unpopular opinion but...
I feel like the people who complain about MCU Spider-Man only being Tony Stark Jr. have missed the entire point of the MCU Spider-Man movies. It's a lot of discourse coming from the Marvel gatekeep fans that dislike how popular things have gotten. The... "I liked it before it was cool" fans that are super upset that all these young people are into something they also like (instead of seeing it for the positive it is - more merch! More content! Easier to find things about it! And more people you can chat with about things! It's great!). Everything HAS to be an argument over which Spidey’s been better because we can't just let people enjoy things.
But my point.
In Captain America: Civil War Spidey has a very small role to play and a lot of it is a supporting one. But the entire point (in my opinion) of Tony Stark having proof that Spider-Man already exists in New York is to show that Peter Parker would be a hero even without Tony’s tech. The tech is just there to give him the suit (which, I get it, people are salty Peter doesn't have kick ass sewing skills 🙄). It's also stated in their first meeting that Peter makes his own webs and his own webshooters. So he may not have got to the point where he made his own suit but this kid was smart and talented and capable (and younger than both Tobey and Andrew's Peter - approx 14 in CW compared to 17 and college aged).
In Spider-Man: Homecoming Peter rocks that Stark Tech suit. But he also hacks it. He also repeatedly makes phone calls to try and get Tony’s attention to a problem he thinks is worse than it seems on the surface. He's 15 and he feels things like a 15 year old. But okay, I get it, you're mad that he has Tony Stark as a mentor instead of Uncle Ben (so am I but mostly because I want Uncle Ben and not because I'm really mad about the mentor thing). Oh? Wait? That's not it? It's because... he's not expected to figure it all out on his own?
Only that's where you're... kind of wrong. Aside from Ned, Peter rarely received any help against Toomes at all. And it wasn't because Tony didn't care it was just because Peter was 15 and Toomes was good at hiding things.
My big point - big big point - about HOCO is that Peter doesn't beat Toomes (Vulture) until AFTER Tony takes the suit away. He doesn't beat him with the help of SI tech. He beats him AS SPIDER-MAN. There's even the iconic, stuck under a building, "come on, Spider-Man" scene where Peter realizes that he needs to be BE this hero in order to save the city. And not in a big way like Tobey or Andrew always was - Toomes wasn't trying to destroy New York. But he WAS selling weapons to people across the city to hurt dozens of others. Peter was literally being the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man we all want him to be. And he did that. Without a suit. Without any tech that wasn't of his own invention. And he even saved the bad guy's life. No one died that day.
But, okay, whatever, that's not your problem either. It's Far From Home. Okay, let's break that down.
Peter helping out SHIELD? I mean I get it but also there's literally a cartoon where that happens and no one complains. He also does it a few times in the comics. Oh wait, no it's the Tony Stark connection again. I get it. You don't like Tony Stark. Chill, guys, it's not that out of character. Peter Parker always looked up to the guy.
"He needed Stark's tech to beat Mysterio". Uh... tell me you didn't watch the movie without telling me you didn't watch the movie.
The entire point of FFH - as far as I took it - was Peter learning to trust himself again. He falls again and again and again for Mysterio's tricks because he doesn't listen to himself. He doesn't trust his "Spidey Sense" (aka Peter Tingle lmao) because of PTSD due to the events in both Infinity War and Endgame. The only way he beats Mysterio in the end is by TRUSTING HIMSELF. When he closes his eyes in that scene against the drones? He's not using tech to figure out where they are - he's using his Spidey Sense. When he stops Mysterio from shooting him? He's using his Spidey Sense. The entire story of FFH was that he was relearning to trust in his own powers and instincts and believing that he was still a hero even after having let down his hero (in his own mind).
I think I see the real issue. Other than the one i pointed out where we're mad what we liked is now more commercialized and popular - MCU Peter Parker has a pretty strong support system. He doesn't only have Aunt May but he has Ned and MJ, Tony Stark for a bit, Happy Hogan, etc. He works hand in hand with the Avengers.
All I'm saying is you can't argue that MCU Peter Parker is a terrible Spider-Man because he works with Tony Stark and then choose to ignore the fact that he beat both of his villains in both of his solo movies without using that tech.
And this post isn't to say that Tobey and Andew were terrible either. They were and are all great Spider-Men in their own unique ways (and let's be honest, Into the Spider-Verse was 100% the best Spider-Man movie out of the bunch and Miles Morales deserves a lot more love).
Why is it so hard to let people enjoy things without turning into a fandom discourse fight?

Eyyy just read the "endgame killed their hyperfixation" ask and BIG FUCKING MOOD! I personally didn't even enjoy MCU fandom content until like a year and a half after Endgame - except for some VERY salty fix-its. I just. I feel like creators and consumers, authors and readers, filmmakers and watchers, whichever form of creative work that's going out into the world, have a trust-based relationship. As a watcher I trusted them to make it - watching all their movies, waiting a year after Infinity War for Endgame, investing in these characters - worth it. And not it did they fail to make it worth it, but they did it in ways that felt intentionally malicious. I could go into a whole itemized list about that but, just no, nope, I'm done. No more trust/willingness to wait/suspension of disbelief from me towards the MCU. I have fandom and fanfic if I want to revisit my love for characters, and my family has D+ if I want to watch MCU films again, but I'm not gonna cry my heart out in a theater for the MCU again. And like! I still love the characters! But I'm not trusting canon with them again XD that's just my feelings.
Valid babe
