22. describe your writing process from scratch to finish.

on good days (i.e., on days that i'm extra focused), i write an outline first! i estimate how many scenes i want to include and determine what makes each scene important. i also try to come up with a working synopsis, flesh out the characters and their backgrounds, and note down literary tools that i'd like to include such as parallelism. this happens after a good idea/prompt dawns on me!

most days, though, i just write free flow because i don't have the energy nor the brain cells to write a full-blown outline lmao. these are usually drabbles or stories that are not as cohesive/full-circle as my planned ones.

91. how has your writing style changed over the years?

i think it's become more straightforward and a bit more engaging! i also add a bit more dialogue and internal monologues now.

94. do you prefer dialogue or description?

dialogue <3 i love me a good banter. also, i have a hard time writing descriptions and imagining settings when i read them. but i acknowledge that description is just as important as dialogue as it makes or breaks the setting and flow of the story. i'm working on this weakness hehe

i did already answer this but i forgot to say i really appreciate the ones that point out typos or errors ive missed so i can go back and fix them. or even like if there's a continuity error i made somewhere those can be super helpful too!

i do really love some of the plots i come up with. it really does make it such a joy to write something unusual and interesting and i do think that comes across in my fic ideas

💞what's the most important part of a story for you? the plot, the characters, the world building, the technical stuff (grammar etc), the figurative language

definitely the character's relationship- the tension, the intimacy, the romance and how im going to make it all come together. to me if the dynamic between the pairing isnt interesting then no matter how fantastic the plot, the world building, the language etc it's never going to be enough to make up for that lack of chemistry.

11. Are you partial to a certain character/pairing or are you more equal-opportunity? If you are partial to any character/pairing, why do you think that is?

I'm VERY MUCH a biased hoe. Dreamling all the way. If u approach me with anything else I will report you to the ship police

Now that my unfunny bone has been tickled: I am partial to Dreamling because it gives me something no other ship from other fandoms I've been in/am in does. There's something just so gentle about them! We've got a single episode with these two and it's a marvelous 600 years of slow burn! How wonderful!!!

I'm not entirely opposed to other ships though! I love the dynamic between Dream and Calliope too (and even the occasional Dream x Hob x Calliope). But yes, I'm very partial.

23. What’s a trope, AU, or concept you’ve never written, but would like to?

A No Powers AU! I have no idea how I'd set it, which is why I haven't done it yet. I would love to explore the complexities of Dream set on a non-fantasy world.

(.....i'm gonna assume this question refers to weather) it's really nice out! lots of sunshine, 65 degrees fahrenheit. though we're supposed to get lots of rain the next couple/few days. i'm preparing myself mentally for my inevitable migraines those days. aaaaa

36. how many times have you changed your url?

not much to be honest. i made this account way back in 2014?? or was it 2018? when did the haikyuu manga end? around then. and stuck with it ever since. if i want to "change my url" i just make a sideblog with the new one. lol how many times have i changed my theme tho~ is another question~ ahahahaha *looks away* ........thinking of changing it again, actually. i've had nothing but shiba yuzuha on the brain lately. aaaaaa

43. what's your take on spicy foods?

AHAHAH i technically have no tolerance for spicy foods. orz. some korean i am /j

i don't mind spicy??? i'll eat spicy foods like pepperoni, mild salsa, OH! TEOKBOKKI (probs spelled that wrong—)!!! i love teokbokki! but anything insanely spicy??? nahhhh! there are certain dipping/spicy sauces that are all-spice-no-flavor. don't like those! i prefer the sauces that have a flavor to them as well as a tasteful kick.

the thing is,,,,,,,. my stomach will immediately violently complain! so i try to avoid anything spicy/too spicy. ehehe orz

i got my isbn today for the book. 8 months to go. my mom and i were talking about what the next steps are. i was eating trail mix, standing on one foot, phone tucked into my ear.

"yeah," i said. "the problem is that tumblr as a market is like, not something that can be studied." there's this weird wave of nostalgia and affection for this place that came up over me: how lovely we avoid consumerism. okay, it sucks as a creator. but also? keep stickin' it to 'em.

my mother made the sound at the back of her throat that i also make, the one that means i've got an idea. "you should figure out some kind of reward for presale amounts. maybe you give out poems or a mug or a signed book or something. would your followers like that?" my mother is sweet, and kind, and i have no idea how to explain on this website you can buy someone crabs.

i put more m&ms down the hatch. i had to speak through peanuts and almonds. "if it passes 25 thousand i will print the book out in its entirety and eat it live on camera."

"oh god. no, you don't have to do that." she was anguished. "just tell them that you'd love them to read it, and that they've inspired you to write. you got started on that site, and they helped you keep going. raquel, you love these people. the community? you talk all the time about the other writers and artists and whatever else. tell them that you're hoping for their support, they'll come through."

"no," i assured her. i discovered i had dropped an m&m, but an ant had already found it, so it belonged to him now. i will let his little life have a surprise blue treasure in it, too. "i'm gonna fuckin' eat the book."

Sobbing uncontrollably reading through a dissertation about the college experience of students with ADHD. It is like reading a report about my life that just says over and over "My experiences are real. My hardships are real. I am not lazy, I am not dumb. My struggles were not my fault, and they were not a moral failing. The failure was with the system, not with me."

Here's a line that got me in particular:

"Hotez et al.(2022) compared the health, academic, and non-academic capacities of a nationally representative sample of U.S. first-year college students with ADHD and without ADHD. Students with ADHD self-reported lower academic aspirations and more feelings of depression and overwhelm, ranking themselves lower in their general emotional health. The fact that students with ADHD scored in the highest 10th percentile for many non-academic traits, such as artistic ability, computer skills, creativity, public speaking, social confidence, self-understanding and understanding of others, compassion, and risk-tasking, suggests that this population has strengths that are frequently underappreciated in academia."

(the paper is a thesis called "Understanding the Collegiate Experience for Students With ADHD" by Gia Long, 2022)
