I’ve seen a lot of different characterizations of tim-as-robin, so i like the thought that, especially at the beginning, tim-as-robin has an on mode and an off mode. in his mind, robin is supposed to be loud, confident, snippy, high-energy, and bright, given how dick and jason were as robin, so he makes an appropriate character and puts him on when he goes out with batman. the gelled-up hair (dcau-tim style) helps him settle into character + i read a fic once where he does it so bruce doesn’t mistake him for jason and i internalized that.

(edit: i found the fic)

tim is naturally a lot quieter and likes to hide under his cape when being high energy and peopling and being perceived becomes too much. people learned to be wary of the quiet robiniii because it means he’s tired and therefore a lot less patient.

tim stops fronting as much the more he settles into his role. dick has fond memories of his gelled hair. it was Crispy.

tim hiding under cass’ cape when he doesn’t want to deal with things + is seeking comfort -> cass bundling him up automatically in times of stress or when she needs comfort
