Title: Embody the Stars Chapters: 8/? Current W/C: 11,483 Summary: After returning to Earth from their crash landing on Oasis Alex, Kyle, and Liz have to settle into life down on the surface with three stowaway alien passengers. Life on the planet's surface is destitute for most people and the crew feels that they have to intervene. Unfortunately Alex's family always has a way of catching up to him. A/N: Sequel to An Oasis in the Stars by @bekkachaos

Day 2 : Developmental Laboratories, People Processing Center (El Paso, TX Refuge)

It only took a day before Michael realized he wasn’t okay with the plan they’d come up with. Well really it had been a plan that Alex had come up with and they’d all just agreed to it so maybe that was the problem. Alex’s strategy revolved around putting himself at risk while keeping everyone else safe and he was so damn convincing when he spun the story that everyone couldn’t help but say yes–especially when they hardly had any time to think it over.

Now Michael understood that Alex had done that on purpose.

Michael kept a lot of things close to the vest and for good reason. He couldn’t go through his formative years as the son of the most hated man on Oasis without becoming a little jaded. Alex had told him a little about his relationship with his father and Michael had naively taken it at face value that Alex had divulged a lot more information to him than vice versa. As he thought about how Alex executed their return to Earth, though, it made him think that Alex was still keeping a lot of cards close to his chest too.

The worst part was that Michael knew why Alex had done what he did, because it was a move that Michael would have pulled and that worried him the most.

“We need to go get him,” Michael said, pacing back and forth in front of Liz’s workstation for the fourth time. Liz had been studiously ignoring him so far, which was impressive since he was an intense presence at the best of times.

Kyle happened to walk up then and Michael perked up. “Valenti, good. Tell Ortecho that we need to go get Alex.”

Kyle stopped short, slowly handing some medical supplies to Liz as he apprehensively looked Michael over. Liz accepted them without so much as a word, stowing them away with a nod of acknowledgement to Kyle.

“There’s nothing we can do right now,” Kyle said.

“He’s been there a day and we haven’t heard anything. You two said yourselves we don’t know how long they will hold him.” Michael glared.

“We can’t get good communications from the station, but even if we could, I doubt they’d let him talk to us right now. The ISA is going to question him and they won’t want him coordinating with us.”

Michael scoffed. Alex had set them down on Earth to “avoid politics” as he put it and yet he was right back up at the station doing that very thing. What was the fucking point of all of this if they were in the same mess anyway? Michael would sooner have crashed the damn shuttle until it was no longer traceable and gone on the run than deal with all of this, but none of the human crew wanted to lose all the work from their mission. Despite how their government had wronged Ortecho’s family, they were dedicated to the science of it all. He couldn’t fault them too much for that, even if it rankled right now.

“Question him or interrogate him?” Michael asked.

in fics where luke gets plopped into the prequels i want every jedi within ten metres of him to think hes the weirdest jedi theyve ever seen. he has negative lightsaber form. he doesnt know what a kata is. he handstands when he meditates. his solution to sith is to try and have a chat. hes a political radical who keeps suggesting revolution. you ask him what the jedi code is and he says "kindness and compassion and helping those in need :) ". you ask how he used the force like that and he says some shit about how you are a luminous being limited only by your mind. the councils authority is just a suggestion. he is somehow the new favourite of both qui gon and yoda

we poke fun at obi-wan for saying "sith lords are our specialty" and then getting his ass kicked by dooku, but in fairness, he was at the time the only person in living memory to have actually killed a sith. he showed remarkable humility honestly.

Embody the Stars

Michael plucked at Alex’s lapel, smirking. “I thought you looked good in your little jumpsuits on Oasis, but I think I can get into this, Private.”

Alex rolled his eyes, but tugged him in closer by the front of his jacket. “That’s Sergeant First Class, Guerin. The only Private around here is you.”

Michael raised his eyebrows, smirking as he wrapped his arms around Alex’s waist. “Does that mean I have to take orders from you? Call you ‘sir’?”

“Maybe, if you play your cards right,” Alex said, nearly an inch away from kissing him when a hand appeared between their faces.

“Keep it in your pants, boys. Save your weird sexual roleplay until after we’re done, yeah?”

“Is she talking to him or something?” Kyle asked, looking between the girl and Alex.

“I wonder why she would join our triad but then immediately start talking to Alex. That’s strange.”

Michael shrugged. “I mean, look at him. I’d talk to him first too.”

“Michael, god, you’re so thirsty. It’s gross,” Isobel complained.

He was unbothered by the comment. Both things were probably true. “I’m honest.”

“Hell, if I were into guys−”

“Kyle, shut up,” Isobel and Michael said at the same time. His mouth closed tightly as he scowled at the both of them.
