just some thoughts i have on (mcu) toomes.

i saw a video of a channel i really admire pointing out that most mcu antagonists genuinely want to make the world a better place, mostly in terms of oppression like racism and social inequality. but suddenly the villains act completely out of character, usually by killing a lot of people or causing unnecessary destruction and chaos. and all of that is likely done on purpose because you're supposed to side with the characters who defend the system, who defend the status quo, so the antagonists who actually want to change things are seen as evil for it.

i can agree with all of these points. but then the video showed toomes' speech and basically said that he's right. and this isn't the first time i've seen folks agree with toomes, because he criticizes the powerful rich people that exploit the small ones like peter and himself. but since peter is close to tony stark, everyone claims that mcu peter has "betrayed" his own social class.

okay. my thoughts.

toomes is a family man, an ordinary worker, true. but from the very beginning, he's completely on board with selling alien weapons that are incredibly lethal. dare i say, toomes is a lot similar to walter white: two white, middle class family men that resort to the criminal world so they can provide for their wives and children. however, their gigantic ego is what drives them further and further into crime, so they no longer hesitate to commit atrocities such as killing people who get in their way. in the end, walter admits that he did all that for himself, not for his family. i know toomes is not as awful as walter, of course, but they're very alike in terms of backstory and motivations.

to emphasize: toomes does not hesitate to kill people. he killed one of his own crewmates, but even if he claims he thought the weapon wouldn't actually vaporize the guy, toomes doesn't feel one smidge of regret. he just shrugs and moves on (the moment is played for laughs even).

but most importantly, toomes tried to kill a fifteen-year-old teenager. his whole dad speech wasn't actually genuine, toomes was just preparing to drop the entire warehouse on peter. also, do people forget the scene where he talks to peter in the car while holding a fucking gun? he uses the whole family speech here, too. "nothing is more important than family". he lets peter go, but he also threatens to kill him and everyone he loves in case peter tries to stop him.

that's toomes' entire character! at no point in the movie does he act out of character; he's always been an egocentric dick that uses his family as an excuse, even if he does love them. he's not a good guy, he has never been a good guy.

but the issue here is that people take toomes' speech out of context to prove that he's correct and that peter is an idiot or a bootlicker for not siding with him. except peter doesn't fight toomes because of tony, he fights toomes because that's the right thing to do. because toomes is a criminal that is willing to do anything for his own benefit, not caring at all about any lives lost to him and his weapons.

again, i agree that the mcu is a huge police and military propaganda that demonizes activists who fight against them. i agree that most mcu antagonists deserve better. but toomes is not the case here. his speech isn't genuine. he's willing to kill a teenager and everyone else to keep his business up. you guys take out the context to make him look great, and to hate on mcu peter.

you can have your grievances with the mcu, like i do myself. still, toomes is not a guy to look up to, and peter is not a bootlicker. you can stop distorting the whole movie now.

Peter got a Stark phone when he was ten. Adrian took him to a big store with lots of TV screens that all played the same video of Tony Stark declaring to the world that he was Iron Man. They ducked behind the microwaves, both of them giggling as Adrian stuffed the phone under Peter’s sweater.

They walked right out the door without tripping the alarm, and Adrian bought him ice cream to celebrate

After his parents die, Peter is taken in by the Toomes’ family. Things slowly, then quickly spiral out of control. All Adrian wants is to take revenge on Tony Stark. All Peter wants is to do the right thing. Why is that so much harder than expected?

A collection of insights starting after the events of Homecoming, mostly from Tony's perspective. The relationship that Tony and Peter had built by the time Infinity War happened (or not - I'm not a big fan) wasn't built on any big world-ending events, but on countless lab sessions, movie nights, smaller emergencies, and conversations. All of these combined to form a bond between them just as strong as blood ties, and just as unbreakable. I feel like we missed out on all that on-screen, so I can never read enough stories that would maybe cover that period. There is a follow-up series called, Unbroken Strands.

She was pissed off when they closed the ambulance door and finally took off with her inside, she didn't need to be in there, she needed to be with Peter.

Cold, tired, hungry, and homeless, 14 year old Peter Parker gets taken in by Adrian Toomes and his crew. Mr. Toomes is a great guy who teaches Peter how to survive on the streets, and Peter loves him for it, despite that Mr. Toomes hates Peter’s hero Iron Man and says Tony Stark is out to line his own pockets by stepping on the little guy. When Iron Man appears one day and presents Spider Man with an opportunity too good to pass up, Peter finds himself having to make up his mind about what ‘helping the little guy’ really means. Peter also begins to find out some ugly truths about the things Adrian Toomes and his crew are making, and has to decide if the safety Toomes offers is worth throwing Spider Man’s mission and morals out the window. Can he find that same safety with Mr. Stark? So much of Peter’s future hangs in the balance and depends on the choices he makes. An anti-hero and an anti-villain are just one step over the same line in a different direction.

Saving the World Does Not a Hero Make by Azure_K_Mello (M) Complete (This isn't an Irondad fic so much as it's an older MCU/X-Men Crossover but I read it again recently because I love it so much)

Years ago, Tony Stark created a brutal weapon. Even when he was the Merchant of Death, he couldn’t bring himself to put it on the market. But, when S.H.I.E.L.D. learned of its existence, they wanted it. Deciding Spider-Man was the weakest link in Iron Man’s armor, Captain America, Black Widow and Falcon were sent to apprehend him — hoping he either knew where the weapon was or that they could trade him to Tony for it.

But, apprehending a fifteen-year-old is more correctly be termed as kidnapping. And what S.H.I.E.L.D. called interrogation was, in actuality, torture. And, when push came to shove, Peter had to save himself when no one else was going to help.

While on patrol, Peter is struck by a spell that turns him into a toddler. Or mostly into a toddler. His memories, intellect, and experiences are still intact. Unfortunately, that makes being trapped in a toddler's body, with a toddler's motor skills that much harder. His legs are too short, and his fingers are too uncooperative. He can’t ride in the car without a super claustrophobic car seat. He can’t even wash his hands without help and it's all very frustrating. Between the teasing, Tony does his absolute best to help.

Journalism is your major it's something you've always been quite passionate about your girlfriend Riri Williams was a fucking genius though literally she always took her time to even study the small things. She wasn't born with the genius gene though she learned she practiced and she studied to be better at it. She's amazing and you're currently missing her but you don't have time to sulk you're trying to get a shot of Ironheart she's been your main practice this past year. Ironheart was the name she said she wanted to go by when you first saw her it was from quite the distance you couldn't see her face not that you wished you could though it would throw the whole surprise away. You enjoyed not knowing who she was it would just make your work less passionate if you did. The first sighting you weren't even trying to catch it she just happened to be in the background of your video she had flown too close to you of course reposted this everywhere when you noticed her slowly but surely most of your platforms became an Ironheart report page. You'd answer questions like: where was she last seen? How tall is she? Is that an ironman suit? Does she have ironman tech? Is she a student at MIT? There were many questions always but you didn't mind finding out the answer. After reposting the first post she left a note for you at your door you still don't know how she knew where to find you but you didn't question it you thought it was kind of cute reminded you a bit of some cliche superhero x human fanfic you used to read when you were like twelve.

She always went to the same place as if she knew you'd be there she'd be testing something new with the suit or adding onto the suit. Recently she came back with an updated version of her suit and it was fly. There were so many questions exploding that night that you couldn't answer so you asked her yourself on your blog of course she read your blog you knew because how else would she know the information you had on her? So I ask the readers and you tonight Ironheart where did this new suit come from? Don't be shy we're all waiting to hear some incredible news.

Although you loved her new suit you like the original design it was raw it was well thought out it had emotions behind it you don't know how but you could just feel it and not only that but you noticed it was made fully on what seemed to scrap parts of other works now that was some real fucking talent. You were amazed by her loved her even. She never answered your question. For once that was a rarity she always answered you back she'd stick a sticky note inside of your little door handle handle you'd feel it if it was there. Whenever you think deeply you weren't exactly sure if she was a girl or if that's how she presented herself but you assumed her handwriting, the way her suit fits and dedication yeah this was definitely a woman or a person who presented themselves as such. You're shocked back to wake when you see her in the sky you bought a camera just to get better sightings of her however you're panicking when you see her come towards you. Why would she do that? However you don't stop recording when the feet of her suit hits the ground she stands a tall 5'9 in front of you as she approaches you you carefully step back the more steps she takes towards you "I would like to talk off camera" her voice is filtered of course sucks but it comes as no surprise. You shake your head no "mm-mm I need this I wouldn't be a true journalist if I stopped recording" she stands still and you slowly put the camera down but don't turn it off. "You're one hell of a sighter I... Like the attention so I'm giving you two minutes of any questions you want to ask... However if they pertain to who I am or endanger my safety I will refuse to answer." You nod quickly picking the camera back up as if you were ready for this life changing moment you list off your most asked questions as if they're fire on your tongue.

"Are you a woman or female presenting person? Where did the new suit come from? Where is the old suit? Do you plan on protecting us or just receiving clout? Are you a trained fighter? Is your suit based on ironman? Is it a tribute?Do you go to any of the schools near this location?"

She answers almost as fast as you asked "yes I'm a young woman, a friend, locked away in storage, protecting when I'm ready, no I'm not a trained fighter but brains are better than brawn, not originally, I refuse to answer." The last one peaks your interest you couldn't call yourself a real journalist if you didn't push for an answer. The second and last question was incompletely answered or not answered at all "a friend you can't say a name?" She says nothing and you sigh "will you not say this friend's name because they're powerful?" You can practically feel the smile in her voice "oh so very powerful" it doesn't satisfy your need for answer instead it adds onto it yet you're running out of time so you ask the last question again "do you attend any of the schools near this location? The first time I saw you were wearing a book ba-" she turns around and you can feel her about to leave but before she leaves you with no answer she says "like I said you're one hell of a sighter" you sigh and stop the camera you couldn't wait to post this but first you had to check on your girlfriend she had been couped in her damn room all day said she was feeling sick and didn't want you to get sick. So on your way back to the dorms you bought some cans of soup and crackers but when you arrive at her dorm she's not there and no one has seen her you drop your camera and book bag onto your bed before leaving for her favorite quiet place in her little storage building. She of course offered you a key after five months of dating you told her you'd never use it her quiet place should be just for her. You knew though she always kept one on the outside of the building hidden away so you unlock the entrance and slowly walk in not wanting to disturb her in case she had gotten better and just decided to get away for a while. Although you couldn't help but wonder what in the hell would make her lie to you? She wasn't in here at all you avoided looking at her things but eventually something grabbed your attention she seemed to have a power point on paper and other scribbles for a moment you think on where you've seen the exact power point and it hits you like lightning. Ironheart's suit the heart is a- holy shit....Ironheart is your girlfriend your girlfriend is Ironheart when it finally clicks you hear some clanging and walk around the discarded scraps to be met with Riri still in the Ironheart suit standing 5 foot 9 "you're fucking Ironheart!?" She damn near jumps out of her skin as you have the room "oh my God my girlfriend is Ironheart what the fuck? That's how she knew how to contact me that's why.... She I mean you" She follows behind you carefully taking off the suit "baby babe baby" when she's fully dressed down to just her basic T and jeans she grabs your shoulders stopping your rambling "you're Ironheart wow that's amazing I mean it's scary but amazing you built that?" She grabs your face with both hands and you just stop and look at her. For a moment you forget what you were rambling on about "breathe" you take a deep breath and shake your head "I can't do it I'm fucking my idol literally that's weird we sleep in the same room of my God I've seen you naked! I've seen Ironheart naked... I feel betrayed I understand you couldn't have told me but I feel betrayed not because you didn't tell me but because I expected you to be smarter about being caught you have your designs just sitting around!" Riri lets herself calm down when she realizes you're of no trouble you're panicked for way different reasons than she originally thought. "Yes I'm Ironheart yes you need to keep it a secret and maybe I shouldn't leave my designs around" you nod and smack the back of her head "you think? You've ruined it now everything I've written about you how I assumed Ironheart was stoic and calm it's all a lie you're not stoic and calm you party hard and drink harder" she nods in agreement before laughing.

"holy shit do you know about the YouTube channel?" Her smile only widens "you mean the one where you have no filter and continuously express how down bad you are for Ironheart? Yes and the blog about the sightings and the Instagram account you're high in numbers you should be surprised if I didn't notice." You shake your head in disbelief "I have to delete everything" Riri grabs your arms and shakes her head "no don't do that I kind of like the attention" you shake your head "no it's not safe if you're Ironheart and I keep posting these things no I can't if could lead someone to you or worst to your designs and-" you glance at the suit out the corner of your eye and look back at her "your suits vibranium hot shit the friend was Queen Shuri?" Your hands clasp over your mouth as you take a moment to sit down "I can't what's next you're going to tell me you personally know ironman or something!?" She's quiet and you don't even bother looking "you know ironman too!?" Riri laughs and takes the soup cans from the bag you bright earlier "imma warm this up you need this more than me we have a lot to talk about." You hum "oh you mean about how you lied to me about being sick?" She pauses in her steps "don't worry I have too much on my mind right now I'll kick you in your back about the lying later."

A boy in your gym class overhears you talking about your celebrity crush and spills some gossip — peter x gn!reader fluff

a/n: ok this is obvi inspired by that scene in homecoming but i reimagined it while thinking of tasm peter because of course

You sat on the bleachers with your friends during gym class, as you were bored and the Midtown High School's physical education program is not exactly known for being the best in the world—or even the city. 

You were leaning back onto the row behind you. You and all of your friends had your phones out, but you were still talking to them. 

"Oh my god!" You exclaimed. "Someone posted a new video of the Spider-Man!"

Your exclamation turned some heads, but everyone resumed their warmups after a second. Almost everyone, that is. You noticed a boy still looking at you when you stopped talking. Peter Parker; that was his name. You recognized him, though you weren't close at all. 

"Oh, send me that video." One of your friends said. 

"Yeah, sure." You said, quickly sending a link for the video to your group text. 

All of the friends in your group started watching the video on their own phones, only a few seconds behind where you were. 

You let out a small gasp, realizing something about the video. 

"Oh my god, this is like a block away from my apartment!" You pointed out to your friends. 

"For real?" 

"Really?"

"Wait, how do you know?" They asked. 

"Look!" You said, pausing the video when a certain building was in view and showing it to your friends. "That's the deli by my apartment building! You know, the one with the cat that sits on the sneeze guard."

"And you've never seen Spider-Man around your place?"

"No, but I'll look out even more now." You said. 

 After a second of staring at your phone, watching the new video over again, one of your friends looked over at you and noticed your expression. 

"Oooh, look at that!" She said, pointing to your face. "(y/n)'s blushing hard!"

Your friends all looked up from their phones to look at you.

One of your friends started chuckling lightly when he saw that you were, in fact, blushing. "Oh, do you have like a crush on the Spider-Man or something? That's adorable."

You noticed Peter whip his head at you from across the gym, then right back to his friend, Harry.

"It's not a crush!" You defended. "He's just so cool. And yeah, he's definitely got a great body or whatever, but that's it."

Your friends knew that you definitely had a crush on the Spider-Man from the videos online, and they weren't backing down. 

"Oh my god, you've totally got to wait on the top of a building for him to find you! That'll be such a story to tell your kids."

"Shut up." You said, rolling your eyes playfully.

One of your friends turned back to you and made a fake gagging noise."Ew, what if it's just like some 50-year old man who likes dressing up in spandex suits?"

"Come on, no 50-year old man looks like that. I bet he's in college or something."

The questions just wouldn't stop coming. It was rapid-fire interrogation from every single member of your friend group. Even the quiet ones had something to say.

"If you did meet him, would you ask for his number?"

"Probably." You shrugged. "I would at least ask for a picture."

You thought about meeting Spider-Man. Imagining what it would be like in real life. How tall he would be, how his voice would sound. You wondered if he would let you touch the suit.

"Peter knows Spider-Man!" Harry blurted from the gym floor. 

Peter cringed slightly, like even though he was usually suave and cool, Harry said something he shouldn't have and it embarrassed him.

"Do you really?" You asked, looking beside Harry at Peter.

"No, well, yeah, I do. But it's, like, complicated." Peter said. 

Ignoring all other words than 'yeah', your friends started to question Peter instead of you now. They asked him how he knows him, if he's real or if it's just computer tricks, who he is, and so many more questions. 

"You have to let (y/n) meet him!" One of your friends said to Peter. 

Peter opened his mouth to respond, but Harry swooped in and answered before his friend could say anything. 

"Definitely." He said. "He can introduce you two whenever you want."

The blush left your face a few minutes ago, but you could feel it coming back. 

"Cool." You said smiling. "Ask him if he's free tonight."

"Tonight?" Peter asked, looking and sounding completely flustered. 

"Yeah, my place. If he can come, or if he wants to come, that is."

Harry swooped in again to coolly answer in place of Peter. "He can definitely come, don't worry."

"Great," You said, still smiling. "Then, it's a date."

I'm gonna come out and say it; No Way Home sucked. Sure, it had some good moments but in my opinion, it does not live up to the first two instalments of the trilogy. I liked the first part of the movie but as soon as I knew where the second part was going, I fell off that train pretty quickly.

Not only did it make MCU Spidey end up with the same tale as his two predecessors but it also undoes Peter's entire establishment in Marvel's overall franchise. What was the point of the last four movies putting him on the roster with Earth's MIGHTIEST Heroes if you were just going to take all that away and make it like he exists in a completely separate world from them? What was the point of the three cameos we had from RDJ, Samuel L. Jackson, and Benedict Cumberbatch in their iconic roles to show that interconnected universe as with every other MCU movie, only for that to be stripped away at the very last second? Might as well have been another one of Sony's solo ventures at making a series after TASM but it's not and that's why I HATE the uncertainty of Peter Parker's future in the MCU. However, given the current failing reality of the MCU with every new movie that comes out, I can already confirm it's nothing good. In fact, it probably would be best if progress stops altogether before Marvel really is stuck in the dust and just a part of a magnificent past with no legacy to carry on. (This is a side note but that is still a big issue for me anyways that I may expand upon later in another post. In the meantime, go watch all the video essays on YouTube, I'm sure you'll find many good ones.)

He had a unique story that fit into the overarching plot of the MCU and the premise he had was different from the previous Spideys which is what was so interesting about his character development. This Peter Parker had friends that weren't introduced before, or at least, they were more developed than in other series; he had a superhero as a mentor, not a scientist turned villain due to unfortunate circumstances; he had a guy in the chair who wasn't after him or turned villain because his father was one, he had two crushes that were friends, he was part of clubs and acted more teenage-like than the last two. He interacts with other heroes, joins the Avengers, fights THE villain, perishes, comes back, loses his mentor, and is still expected to keep on going.

For crying out loud, he was asked if he was going to be the next Iron Man but he knew he wasn't which is what Far From Home set out to show us. And to all those who called him Iron Man Jr. in Homecoming, I hope you know that you make no sense and I think Marvel did a wonderful job making him stand apart. He was a kid admiring one of his role models and now that he actually had a connection to him, of course he was going to want to be like his mentor but even Tony recognized that he wanted him to be more, not like him. This shows Iron Man himself had great respect for the young hero.

Now, moving onto No Way Home, two main things that annoy the heck out of me; Peter being forgotten (obviously) and Aunt May dying. I'll start with Aunt May's death. To be honest, it was a completely unnecessary death and it actually doesn't make sense for the purpose it had in the movie. The punchline "With great power comes great responsibility." loses its premise as soon as you recall Civil War's intro to Peter in the first place. Uncle Ben had already died, Peter was Spider-Man at this point, and remember what Peter told Tony when they met, why the older hero related to him so much? "When you can do the things that I can, but you don't... and then the bad things happen... they happen because of you." So he already learned that lesson on responsibility and by the time we get to No Way Home, this kid had learned lessons also involving the universe at large. Why are we rehashing Uncle Ben's offscreen death with Aunt May if Marvel literally stated that was overdone? Make that make sense. But oh, it was to make something big and dramatic happen in the movie because we needed to mOve aLoNg. Peter lost his parents, his uncle, and mentor; can you come up with something new other than parental figure losses? Why do TASM Peter and OG Peter still have their Aunt Mays and even if it was just a deleted scene, technically TASM Peter's dad? Huh, then what do you say there? Why did MCU Peter Parker have to lose ALL his parental figures?

Finally, the thing that probably broke most of us; Peter being wiped from everyone's memory. As I stated earlier, his entire existence within the MCU just vanishes, like that, in seconds. So......... what was the point of his existence up till now in the MCU? What was the point of his specific development and growth if he was just going to get forgotten? Why was he meticulously introduced at the height of the Avengers' conflict and then constantly involved with some other MCU hero/important character if he was going to be removed from that? If the Avengers were never a big deal, why make him a part of that at all and why were we still bringing them up at the climax of the film? For those who bring up the argument that he's supposed to be a solitary hero, well that was the worst way to have introduced him then, right? But Marvel chose that route, not any other. Which is why that decision still makes no sense to me. You put him in a world where he wasn't the only superhero and he was going to interact with other heroes which none of the other Spider-Men had and that already put him in a unique position. Why give him a background that was going to get swiped?

Imagine that, making five blockbuster films that gave him a firm standing in the MCU at the peak of Phase 3 and then in his sixth film, his last standalone which is supposed to be his most shining moment, he gets the rug pulled out from underneath him to give him a blank slate? You might as well have thrown every script out from 2015 to 2019 including him before they were ever written or considered. It's the equivalent of undoing everything you just worked on in a school project that's worth 40% of your final grade. Think about that for a second. Marvel just undid 6 years of work and investment in a single character for them to go back to the beginning. Why didn't you just do that then from the start? You could have had more classic Spidey a long time ago by that train of thought (which I really didn't want because we already saw that twice and this Spidey was something fresh).

Anyways, thanks for reading. This is 2 years worth of disappointment and frustration put on the page.

I love them together but would still follow the separately. Zendaya was definitely more famous than Tom at the beginning and he (they) became insanely famous after the second movie (when they weren’t even publicly dating) . His YouTube videos and following were crazy at that time. I think it’s crazy how some people think one or both would stop being relevant if they were to break up. I honestly think that they are at a point of fame where it doesn’t matter anymore unless they do something really bad. They will always be famous together and separately.

Exactly! I knew Zendaya before I knew Tom (obviously), but I quickly became a fan of his after watching Spider-Man Homecoming for the first time back in 2017. (Ahh memories 🥰)

But I do feel like they are at a point where they would still be famous even if they were to not be dating each other. I do kind of feel like Tom would have more autonomy though and a chance to gain more of his own solo fans if he weren't in such a high-profile relationship. But they are happy and in love, and there's nothing wrong with that. Tom is deliriously happy, and so is Zendaya! Sometimes, you just happen to fall in love with someone who's insanely famous, and you just deal with the good, the bad, and the ugly that comes along with it! I think they've been doing very WELL with their relationship, especially seeing how famous they are and how much they're in the public eye. 🥰

I'm fucking obsessed with those NMACC paparazzi videos like. Every now and then I just remember "Tom homecoming" "jhandeyaa" "jijaji sharma gayeee" "ToooOOoooooOm" "ae Tommy" "spider pose" "nickwa" "geegee" "kya spiderman banega re tu" "Shakira hai kya kaun hai yeh" "makdi man" and I just. burst into giggles like an idiot
