A brief analysis of disorganized attachment in “Special Girl,” as taken from my Mac’s Notes app:

I saw someone on here say that “Special Girl” describes attachment disorders and of course I rushed back to the song to pin down what form of insecure attachment the song details. The song has also been on my mind lately considering my recent attempts at making an instrumental for it. Anyway, looking into the lyrics, it seems to encapsulate disorganized attachment (which makes perfect sense as a song already on my Misguided Torchbearers playlist). The following is taken from my notes app on my Mac, unedited:

“Sweet, sweet irony/Could not care less if you love me/But hate me first, yeah, make me work/That’s perfect” - aspects of dismissive-avoidant

“Baby, I’m a funny thing/I’m walking if it doesn’t sting/Heartbreak only means that it was worth it” - seems to be anxious or fearful-avoidant (“walking if it doesn’t sting” might be fearful-avoidant because of a concern that this is too good to be true, but such behavior is also similar to anxiously-attached people often forming relationships to people with avoidant attachment with the counterintuitive subconscious wanting someone who can’t fully commit)

Unsure of where “Talk and tap to find a crack/Prise open ’til my nails turn black” might fit, but once again seems to be anxiously-attached behavior towards avoidant person (might tie into “Hate Myself”’s anxiety in another’s silence?)
