While we've been anticipating Legion Command Squads since the Christmas teaser, I don't know that I was expecting them to be an upgrade pack. I'm not opposed in concept, but I'm not one hundred percent sold on this collection of bits; as great as it is to have more shields, breachers should be their own kit and I'm mystified as to why vox and medicae parts aren't included here.

Author's Note: It's here! The first chapter of the Yandere Salamander/Fem!Reader/Yandere Night Lord love triangle(corner) fic! It's going to be 4 chapters (5 actually you'll see tehe) and I drafted a good portion of it in advance so it should be smooth posting? We'll see. Enjoy!
Summary: A Night Lord becomes interested in you while you stand under the eyes of your Salamander guardian, and you find yourself stuck between two titans.

Word travels fast aboard even the largest of ships, you had learned quite quickly.
Space marine legions are not fond of working with one another, was what you had learned first. Many times even different squads within this same Legion can butt heads, as different styles of commanding and battle conflict with one other. Salamanders often try and remain cordial when problems within them arise, but friction was and is inevitable.
The second, was Vulkan was apparently quite firm with his legion that they were to welcome their temporary allies with respect. At least that is what you’ve heard from any Salamander that you’ve heard mumbling as you pass by, or any that have given you a moment of their time. That’s all you know, and these tidbits of knowledge fail to put together a full picture that you can understand. Their lips have been quite tight other than the bare minimum they believe you need to know.
Or what you can get from them if you ask very nicely; Much like the Commissars and Lords you've dealt with over the years, it seems Salamanders aren't immune to a bit of flattery also. You just need to make sure he doesn't find out, as you know how displeased he gets whenever he finds out you went wandering around chattering with his brothers.
Speaking of...
You can ask him about it; You just need to wait for him.
He always visits you in the librarium, once his second round of training is concluded. He then goes for his five hours of rest, and the cycle restarts. Though even if it isn't that time, you know he still keeps a keen eye on you.
You don’t wish to bother him with an issue as seemingly meaningless as gossip, but none of your fellows have been able to piece together what's happening, as none of the Salamanders have loosened their lips about it in the slightest.
It's made you more than a bit unnerved; Knowing that something is wrong but no one will tell you what it is. The tenseness in your neck is worse, and sirens and calls once normal now make you jolt when they sound off.
The large piece of parchment in front of you remains nearly empty, apart from the crude outline. Commander Artellus's face is fresh in your mind, but you for some reason can't put it to parchment.
You hear the sound of harsh, heavy boots on the ground, and turn to see who you've been waiting for coming towards you. You shift in your seat and turn to see him coming.
“Ralkan; You’re back,”
You smile wide at him, a put down the pen you'd been fruitlessly trying to use. The way his eyes look down at you is warm, his helmet hanging on the side of his hip. He stands close to where you sit alone at the massive table, covered in a mess of materials. The ink in your well shakes with waves, when he steps closer.
“You should have been there this time. I feel like I'm missing something now without your curious looks.”
You smile even wider and laugh, remembering the time. He had outpreformed Salamanders his senior, and you wondered if he was overdue for an ascension in rank, or if he was simply showing off.
“I'll come next time. As long as your battle brothers don’t mind me seeing your training again.”
He places a massive gauntlet on your shoulderblades, thumb against the side of your neck.
"They won't, I am sure of it. Though I hope you'll reserve your cheering only for me again."
His hand brushes along the upper half of your back before it slides away, his chainsword hanging neatly on his back. He looks out the massive window to the vast reaches of space directly in front of your makeshift desk for a moment, before pulling his bolter off his thigh and checking it.
He’s always meticulous. He’s been trained into flawless discipline, and it shows in every aspect of his existence. From the way he keeps his thoughts closed to the way each piece of armor and each weapon must be meticulously maintained.
You can hear the mechanics of his armor shift as he moves, but you can only tolerate few more beats of the near silence before you can’t help it anymore. Your pen twirls in your hand as a soothing gesture before you speak up.
“Ralkan?”
You look up to him, sniffling from the disturbed dust in your nose. He turns to look at you as you abandon your parchment, and finally put pen down and place your ink stained hands in your lap.
You hesitate for a moment, pursing your lips and looking away from his hard gaze as he turns back to you.
“What is happening?”
He is genuinely confused by your question for a moment, before he realizes what it is you're asking about, and his face stiffens. But still he doesn't answer. It irks you; Thinking that he’s trying to keep this all from you. You add on to your earlier question.
“I know that you are going to be fighting alongside another legion, but why are all of you acting like it's something you're all dreading?”
Perhaps you might simply be a guest aboard this ship, gifted from Terra to a legion eager to put their deeds to written memory, but you wish to know more than the servitors do. You pull your hands from your lap and lightly slap the table with them, gripping the edge.
“Ralkan, Who are the Night Lords?”
It is so instantly apparent that you struck something in him, as his body visibly tenses and his face briefly flashes with anger as a legion's name other than his own leaves your tongue.
He makes eye contact with you, the burning red of his eyes making your curiosity waver. But you still want to know- need to know. He takes a step closer, and his left hand rests against the surface of the table. He lets out a tense breath.
“The Night Lords are the 8th legion. They," Ralkan tries to find the words, pausing for a moment. "The way they wage battle is in near direct opposition to us Salamanders."
He speaks the name with a stern, cold demeanor. It fills you with a hesitant sort of interest.
These legions; Have they really developed cultures so unique that they find themselves unrecognizable to each other?
“They have no respect. They will cull entire cities for the slightest infraction.” He looks to you, and he catches that your curiosity it still taking hold; You lack the fear that he's trying to instill in you.
He takes a step forward, and you can hear his armor hiss and grind as he lowers to a knee, now only a head taller than you as you sit. He puts his hand on your shoulder again, but it lacks the gentleness it had the last time, as he grabs tight and forces you to face him. You wouldn’t be able to pull away even if you wanted to; And while he is still trying to be gentle, his gauntlet still yearns to bruise your skin underneath your clothing. The seams of his armor dig into your flesh even through the fabric.
“They are going to be crawling over the ship soon. Do not let them even see you. You cannot run from them and they will know it.” His hand makes sure you can’t look even the tiniest bit away from him. “They will take advantage of your weakness. You must stay here, in your quarters, or close to me. I was charged with protecting you, and I will see it through.”
There’s not many places on this ship you go, at least without him. He is your guard, or perhaps more accurately your handler. He is in charge of making sure you don’t wander where you don’t belong, as even if the Salamanders have been welcoming to a remembrancer on their ship, they have their limits. For your safely and their privacy.
This ship- A world for giants, it isn't meant for someone like you either. Ralkan makes it a bit easier to navigate.
Though out of all the titles he's been given, he seems to enjoy calling himself your knight first and foremost. You assume it’s simply a part of their culture, you’ve heard other Salamanders call themselves knights as well. The tone is different, but you assume it’s simply Ralkan’s own brand of oddity. Perhaps he isn't fully cognizant of the intimate undertone behind saying such a thing to you.
Stuck in his grip, your nose wrinkles as you try to say something in defiance, to learn a bit more, but you know this it all you'll get from him. Even if you ask sweetly.
“I just wanted to know what was happening. I'll," You turn your face away from him and blow air from between your tight lips. "I'll stop the questions about it."
There isn’t much you can say otherwise in the matter anyhow. You want to trust him, and to listen to him, but perhaps it’s simply curiosity that makes you hesitate on the matter. Or naivety he probably assumes, as much as that irritates you.
He lets out an audible sigh of relief, and loosens the hand on your shoulder, it drifting up your neck before it cups your jaw. The other joins it on the opposite side, holding your face in his gauntlets. They're so gentle, even with cold ceramite between your skin and his.
“You know I do this to protect you, yes?” He continues, his eyes soft as they gaze over you. “I only want for you to be safe here. With me. I have seen these astartes before; I know what they are capable of.”
His eyes are warm, brow softened. You always enjoy when he looks at you this way, even if you might fear of what lays between you being far beyond the supposed title of knight and his charge. 
He leans forward, and his forehead touches your own. You feel like he wishes to do more, but is forcing it back. Your bare hand lays overtop of his gauntlet, and you smile at him.
But after a moment, he leans back away from you.
“I must leave now. My brothers and I are part of the battalion that is due to greet our temporary allies.” 
You so desperately don’t want him to leave, but at the same time, you wonder if the weight on your chest will finally dissipate if he does.
He rises, and in doing so also removes his hands from your jaw. His cape shifts behind him just barely brushing against the floor, and you swear you can hear the crackling of a vox channel in his helmet. His battalion must be calling for him.
“I will return soon. Please, do not forget what I have said.” You nod in understanding, and pick up your pen. He smiles at you after you do, and turns to leave. You turn to watch for a moment, until he's out of your sight. You turn back to face the table and let out a sigh, rubbing your jaw.
You didn’t want him to leave, but at times Ralkan can be so, suffocating. His very energy is that way, many of the astartes are, but Ralkan seems to have his grip around you particularly tight.
You sum it up to him being dedicated to the safely of their brand new remembrancer. The sheen of a new toy that hasn't worn off yet. Or perhaps him simply wishing to make sure you don't deviate from the path, and tread where you aren't welcome.
You assume the ladder, though the way he looks at you fills you with doubt.
You aren't opposed to him being fond, but he is so overwhelming. You might consider yourself lucky you think you feel the same way, as you don't know if you'd be able to get free of his grip if you didn't.
You don’t forget his words, but as you write word after word, and the drawing of Commander Artellus's face slowly forms, your mind begins to fall into the paper, and his voice becomes little more than a tickle in the back of your mind.

The Fall of Remnant Ⅰ

"Get up! We have to keep moving!"
"Get to the shuttles!"
"Oh brothers! I don't wanna die!"
"PLANET WIDE EVACUATION! PLANET WIDE EVACUATION! ALL CIVILIANS TO DESIGNATED EVACUATION SHUTTLES!"
"SHIELD WALL! Don't let a single one through! We will protect our people until the evacuation is finished in this sector!" Captain Alec commanded as he and his marines used their shield to create an impenetrable wall to keep away the attacking legions of the Loyalists that besieged their world. Bolter fired ricochet off their Shields as a Space wolf rushed forward, only for Alec to stab him through his mouth, killing the space wolf as more followed.
A Remnant Knight firing nearby, only for that location to explode from artillery, Alec seeing the dead knight partially covered in debris. He looked back, seeing people flee behind another shield wall to the shuttles,
"HOLD! WE WILL SHOW THE LOYALISTS WHY WE SONS OF JAUNE ARE NOT TO BE UNDERESTIMATED!" He yelled out as he fought back more space wolves and White scars.
Captain Alec and his squads were wiped out in the heavy artillery barrage that followed moments later, only half of the Civilians in the sector were able to escape...
So! There is a project I have in the works called the Fall of Remnant, takes during the Great Scoring, in which the Imperium launches a retaliation strikes against the Traitors, while the others began to flee to the eye of terror, Jaune returned to Remnant to enact his plan to save as many of his people as possible,

A/N: Slight sad angst, let me know if you want more story to this
Summary: When you return with Newt, how will Ripley react when she sees her old lover.
Distant Lovers
You and Ripley had gone through all sorts or stages in a relationship, although you never really officially disclosed to one another what you were exactly. You were in a relationship, but it was never confirmed by yourself or Ripley, you both just went along with it because you were happy in each others company, happy in each others arms at night, happy in each others steamy embraces, and happy in the company of one another on a romantic level. You and Ellen had both gone through the first attack of the Xenomorph on the Nostromo, and you pushed through the aftereffects. You stayed as a team, and grew close on the Nostromo. It could be said the Nostromo is where your ‘relationship’ started. You stayed together on the ship back to Earth… that was until you were approached by Burke and asked to go to LV 426, as all of the colonies had gone down. You and Ripley promised one another you wouldn’t go, but it wasn’t until you were awoken by her as she had a nightmare, you both called Burke saying you’d join, to do one thing and one thing only; wipe the fuckers out. It was going as good as it could’ve done until you were separated. Ripley was pulled off to join the Marines, give them a talk, and meet the crew. You were pulled off to command a higher unit of the Marine Corps. When you and Ripley, and the two teams met up tensions were high. You caught on to a man named Hicks making eyes at Ripley, not to mention that both the Marine squads were squaring up to one another. As you, Ripley, Hicks, Hudson, Vasquez, Newt, and the other surviving Marines were welded into an office on LV 426, tensions grew higher, even between you and Ripley. You got into small irrelevant arguments, you bickered, and you seemed to grow apart for the time you were in there. It didn’t help that Hudson was panicking and Vasquez and Drake were shouting at him. Hicks and Ripley had gotten closer. For the time spent on the plant you isolated yourself away from Ripley, she was hurting you by spending precious time with Hicks. She spent a lot of time with Newt but that was alright, Newt was a scared little girl who saw Ripley as a mother. You were hurting because she had shut you out, turned to someone else for reassurance and care. You didn’t want to spend time with her, so any time that was spent together it was filed with bitter arguments. Some of those arguments got nasty and personal. It left a hatred between you and Ripley, maybe it was because of the situation and the people around you. Most of the arguments and insults you know were taken too far, but you were both stubborn and fought fire with fire. You and Ripley didn’t speak, you didn’t sit in the same room as one another, you didn’t fight side by side; and it felt like she had abandoned you, abandoned you for a potential family life with Hicks and Newt… or so you thought.
After the events of the Queen Xenomorph and her offspring were annihilated during the explosion of LV 426, more problems rose. There wasn’t enough room on the ship back to Earth for you and Newt, there was only a shuttle available. Ripley had actually spoke to you for the first time and begged you to take her place on the ship while she went with Newt. Part of you thought she was pleading for your space in the shuttle to protect the girl should anything happen, but the stubborn part of you knew she was pleading for your space to protect you. Although you and Ripley didn’t speak for a long time, she still showed she cared for you. She’d save you a seat in the office area whether you took it or not, she’d leave a cup of coffee where you were sitting, she’d secretly check your guns were loaded and you have enough ammunition, she’d check you had your helmet, armour, and even torch. She’d glance at you from across the room trying to read you, trying to tune in to what you were thinking about. She wanted to know if you were thinking about her, about the Nostromo, about the Xenomorph, perhaps you weren’t thinking about anything at all. But she wanted you to hold her and you tell her your thoughts, just like you used to, to calm her on the nights she woke up after a night terror.
So you assured Ripley that you protect Newt, that you wouldn’t let anything happen to her, and that you would both return safe. Newt clung on to Ripley when they were parting but the girl knew she would be safe with you. You gave Ripley a last look, she did the same. You both seemed stuck in place, you both wanted to hug, kiss, hold even shake hands at this point. But you wouldn’t move. So you have her a wink with a small smile and took the girls hand heading to the shuttle. Rather than heading straight to the ship, Ripley held back until she couldn’t see you both anymore.
Both the Marine ship and your shuttle were travelling directly back down to Earth for the first time in years, everyone would be in hyper sleep and the Marine ship was the first to arrive. The company had set up a large private housing estate for the Marines, yourself, Ripley and Newt to settle down into for the time being, and to settle in back down on Earth. You and Ripley had seen the house you’d been assigned to, it was the house at the bottom of a straight walk-down street. It was a beautiful house with steps leading up to it sat in the middle of a row of houses leading down to it, it had big front double doors, and bushes on the sides, it was a home to go to.
You and Newt had woken up from hyper-sleep to find you had a matter of hours left before you grounded to Earth. You had made contact with Ellen’s ship but only to find out that it had grounded 4 weeks before you have. The company had told you that Ellen had settled into the house, she was eagerly waiting for your arrival, but she was scared. She didn’t want a phone call that told her you and Newt didn’t make it, or something happened to the both of you. You tried to make contact with Ripley but that didn’t work as you still hadn’t grounded. You had about an hour left before you grounded and the same events with the first Xenomorph in the shuttle had happened with you and Newt. The monster was hiding in the vents, it had tucked itself in. You hid Newt in the uniform closet with her plastic doll. You didn’t try and flush the thing out, as it would most likely end up on earth. As it appeared to be sleeping in the vents you had snuck around it to push the alarm on the shuttle, which alerted the coma only lives were in danger… and it wasn’t long before Ellen caught wind of it. The alarms went off, the lights were flashing, the alarm was sounding, and it woke. You did the best you could to try and fight it with a pipe you’d found, without being burnt alive by it’s acid. Newt had started screaming from the uniform closet, making the aliens target; Newt. As the alarm had been set off, the shuttle was put into an automatic descent, making you, Newt, and the Xenomorph head straight for Earth at a rapid pace. By now, you had been thrown over all sorts of controls and buttons, you tried to light its tail on fire. You managed to stick a police through its arms jamming it into the vents as you got Newt strapped into a chair to brace her for impact, and the alien was frantic as it had practically ripped its own arm off to get you. You had managed to light its leg on fire, eventually the rest of its body catching on fire. As you made out the buildings from your rapid descent, you hugged Newt, protecting her from the incoming impact, and you prayed that the alien would die, burning alive before the oxygen tanks blew.
As the shuttle smashed into the ground, the backend of the shuttle had blown up, seemingly the oxygen tanks did catch on fire. You figured you were unconscious for a few minutes, but as soon as you woke you looked around for the threat, seeing as some of the shuttle had melted and had acid dripping from it you took the hint it had blown up. You quickly unstrapped a groggy Newt and made your way out of the wreck of the shuttle. As you got out there were people, lots of people standing around you. There were crowds. The sunlight hurt your eyes, and you shielded Newts. You and Newt had dust and dirt and ash all over you. You were bleeding from your eyebrow, lip and nose from the crash and the attack of the alien, that was why as you walked away from the crowd people were shouting if you needed help and who you were. After picking Newt up and carrying her bridal style, you made your way to the private estate which you had memorised the directions to. Newt only had a small nosebleed, and dirt all over her, but she was tucked into your neck. It was a short walk, and early morning, so you had hoped to have dodged the news vans and reporters.
It wasn’t long before a Marine caught whiff of the breaking news on the tv channel which he had just figured out how to use. All the Marines had gathered in Ripleys home, where they all anxiously waited for your arrival. Ripley stared in shock at the screen, she stared in shock at the mess and state of the shuttle crash. She tried to search for you on the news, wondering if the camera would pan to 2 survivors… but it didn’t. So she waited and waited, looking outside the porch windows, holding tears back.
As you turned the corner to start walking down the straight run to your new home you could vividly make out at the bottom of the private estate, you mind went blank for a while. But you knew you’d see Ripley, and thinking about Ripley made you question. Did you she miss you? Did she want to start things up again? Did she want to get married? Should you ask her? Should you leave her? Should you question her and Hicks? Should you be living with her? Your mind stopped asking questions when you got closer and closer to the house you made out that Ripley was waiting at the double doors, you saw her breath in the class, rapidly breathing, she had saw you. She saw a limping figure carrying a smaller figure, covered in dirt, and ash. She saw from her doors you were bleeding and you were hurt. As you continued to walk, Newt popped her head up, seeing Ripley open both double doors. You saw Ripley walk down the steps and you felt Newt wriggling to leave your arms, you stopped walking and gently put her down. You stood still and stood in your place watching as Newt cried out “Mom”, running to Ripley as Ripley did the same, running to her little girl. They met halfway in the street, but they were so far away from you. You held back, wondering if you were welcome. But you watched your two favourite girls hug and sob at their reunion. As Ripley out Newt down she turned to you, still with a tight hold on Newt. She looked at you and took in your appearance, she saw you were weak, hurting, tired, but she saw a look in your eyes that mirrored how she felt. She wants to run to you and she wants you ti pick her up in your arms and hold her, she doesn’t want you to ever leave her again. Although you could barely hear her, she said “thank you”. You stood in place, like the soldier you were. You were going to move forward… but Hicks running to the front door, looking down at Ripley and Newt caught your eye. Your heart dropped, why was he in your house? Did he not see who brought Newt home? How long had he been in yours and Ripleys house? Did she spend nights with him? Did she rest in his arms.. his in hers? And so you gave a tired smile to Ripley, dropped your head down, turned around, and made your way away from them. Made your way to where?… you didn’t know.

Just binged all of when the dead tree flowers and I loved everything about it but especially how readily Grants is ready to lie. Like all the time. And sometimes not even subtle lies he just says things with his whole chest and he’s good at it I love him
(Tbh I love protagonists/antagonists who just. fucking lie to everyone's faces. It's an underrated character trope, imo.)
“Do you know yet what Jedi the general is meeting?” Kix asks quietly. He scans the tunnel warily when Rex leads them around a sharp bend, tense, but—he doesn’t like small spaces much. Rex wouldn’t have picked him for this, except Coric isn't good enough with a blaster. Rex would have had to add in another trooper, and this is supposed to be a small, fast mission where they get in and get out as quickly as possible.
For all the headaches Domino has caused, and will definitely cause in the future, Rex is looking forward to having an ARC squad attached to Torrent again. The last one was his own, before the commander of the company had died and Siri had tapped Rex to take his place. It’s going to be especially nice to have an ARC medic around, though there were plenty of other reasons for Rex to recommend Domino for the course.
Keeping them somewhere secure until the mess with the Kaminoans and Granta can be worked out is just one among many, but—a pressing one.
“Not yet,” Rex says. “All she got was the extraction request. Blackout’s got her, though. They’ll be fine.”
“Maybe it’s General Olin,” Jesse says, pointed, and Kix instantly huffs, embarrassed.
“Commander Fox would like that,” he says with dignity, like he hasn’t been mooning over Siri's former padawan since Ferus swept in to rescue them with Bacara and all of his Marines like a gift from the Force itself.
“Commander Fox is going to have to fistfight Commander Bacara for him,” Denal says, amused. “If you want to get between them, Kix—”
“I wouldn’t get between them,” Kix says. “I’d sneak around the side and grab the target while they were distracted.”
Rex laughs before he can help it. Kix looks sweet and easygoing, but it’s good to remember that he’s one of the longest-surviving members of Torrent for a reason. “General Olin could probably use a month tied to a bed,” he says without mercy, and Kix's splutter is delightful. “So if you’re willing to try that, General Tachi would probably even help you—”
“Captain,” Kix protests, and Rex snorts.
“You're one to talk, Captain,” Jesse says. “Wasn’t Commander Cody just telling us about how you picked up that one assassin and threw him over your shoulder as you carried him to safety—”
“We,” Rex says, maybe a little too loudly, and he can feel that his ears are going red again, “aren’t taking anything Cody says as the truth. He’s a liar.”
There's perfect, judgmental silence from the three troopers behind him, but Rex ignores it for all he’s worth.

The ultramarines movie is my comfort movie,but it would be 300 times better if the two surviving marines at the end kissed. I mean come on they survived together and ended up becoming fathers to a pile of new ultramarines. That's true space romance.
(also watching them climb and jump is fucking hilarious. It's worse then the Nintendo DS Squad command game HAH)
It kills me that a shitty old dirty and broken wooden bridge made by 2 cave men managed to bear all of the Ultramarines guys

By mid-morning, the Alliance Military History museum was as busy as it was going to get for the day. Shepard and Kaidan, both clad in non-descript hoodies, dark glasses over their eyes, had been slowly making their way around the Shepard exhibit in the Reaper War wing of the museum. They’d avoided one exhibit in particular so far, but at last they had worked their way all the way around and only had one thing left.
There was an eye-catching sign that read ‘Last Stand’ and on a smaller sign below: “Experience the final three minutes of the Reaper war with Commander Shepard.” There were two entrances spaced wide apart, but it was clear that one was an entrance and the other an exit from the ‘Last Stand’ experience. Above the entrance was a bold ’21:13:43’ and above the exit was ’21:14:55.’ It evoked a popular symbol after the war had ended. A lot of people had a tattoo of the time—to the second—when the Crucible wave hit where they were hiding or fighting. The second the war ended.
“We don’t have to do this one,” Kaidan said, glancing at Shepard over the rim of his glasses.
“We’ve seen everything else.” Shepard’s brow was furrowed, “Might as well top-off the experience.” He turned and gave Kaidan a reassuring smile.
“I’m just saying,” Kaidan shrugged, “There’s not any three minutes of London that I’d like to relive, much less whatever three minutes they’ve picked out here.”
“What do you mean?”
“’21:13:43,’” Kaidan pointed to the exit, “That’s not London Local Time for the wave. It’s a good twelve minutes earlier.”
“Oh, Shepard nodded slowly, “the run-up to the transport beam.”
“Definitely not a moment I’d like to remember,” Kaidan said carefully, checking Shepard’s expression. Shepard had an excuse if he wanted it.
“Let’s have a look.” Shepard took a quick breath, then offered Kaidan a smile. Their audio queued when they cross the entrance threshold.
“These are some of the final moments of the Reaper War, and three minutes that would determine the fate of the galaxy. Constructed with data directly taken from a FOB monitoring Shepard’s position.”  
The audio continued to set the scene: Hammer Squad, Thannix Missiles, heroic names—Shepard nudged Kaidan when ‘Spectre Kaidan Alenko’ was mentioned—and the transport conduit. The exhibit itself was a dark tunnel, on either side a gigantic holographic layout of the broken London street that served as the run-up to the transport conduit. The conduit was represented by a holo near the exit, and where Shepard and Kaidan entered represented 550 meters south: where Hammer Team made their final charge. The audio would trip at key moments as patrons made their way through the hall. By this time, there was another group just ahead of them, but it was dark enough where they felt comfortable taking off the sunglasses.
Shepard was represented on the holo by a yellow ball with a pinging halo emitting from it. As they approached, it began to move toward the transport beam, dodging blasts and avoiding rubble the holo hadn’t rendered, resulting in a somewhat comical display. The audio was aware:
“Forty-five seconds. Commander Shepard runs straight at the beam, or as straight as the situation allowed. Harbinger began repelling the advancing forces, indiscriminately targeting both individual soldiers on the ground and also the ground and air vehicles. You can see Shepard zig-zagging back and forth, likely avoiding rubble or attempting to make himself a more difficult target.”
“Why do you think it’s only me up there? They should have data for every marine out there that day?”
“It’s your exhibit,” Kaidan offered lamely. “Plus, I don’t think seeing all those little… flickering lights go out would be a very stirring exhibit.” Shepard nodded gravely.
The yellow ball raced down the hill in real time, and after forty five seconds, stopped abruptly. It then went backwards.
“Forty-two seconds. That’s how long it took Shepard to call down the SSV Normandy and evacuate a number of marines wounded in the battle. You can see him take up a defensive position behind cover, then race forward—possibly supporting the weight of another wounded marine—when the Normandy arrives.”
Sure enough, the yellow ball ‘limped’ over to where a holographic Normandy had been generated. The ball stayed there, though, for another thirty seconds, nearly.
“Twenty-eight seconds. That’s how long Shepard lingered at the Normandy, likely ensuring as much time as possible for further evacuations. The Normandy’s cyber warfare suite was a surprise for Harbinger, and silenced, for a time, its blasts.”
They were catching up on the other group now, who were talking between themselves, bent over the holo with interest.
“Twenty-eight seconds,” one whispered to the other. “That’s forever in a battle like this, huh? Geez, makes you wonder what was going on.”
“Probably was just giving some orders or something,” said the other. “…I wonder if he thought about just… flying away?” They both chuckled, then grew quieter as they proceeded to hurry through the rest of the exhibit when Kaidan and Shepard got closer.
“I did,” Shepard whispered to Kaidan, pulling Kaidan’s hood just to the side so his lips could almost to the shell of Kaidan’s ear.
“Did what?” Kaidan turned. Shepard looked over his shoulder to see that the other patrons had drifted away.
“I did think about just getting on the Normandy, flying away,” he said, softly.
“No you didn’t,” Kaidan cracked a conspiratorial grin. “Not for long if at all, at any rate.”
“I did. I thought about leaving with you. Thought about it just long enough to make it hurt when I had to turn away.” Shepard touched Kaidan’s hand. “The exhibit doesn’t talk about it at all, but do you remember what you said during those ‘twenty-eight seconds?’”
Kaidan looked at Shepard warmly, looking through him, in some ways. “I, uh… I think I told you to let me finish the fight!” He laughed.
“You said ‘Don’t leave me behind,’” Shepard replied. He lifted Kaidan’s hand, softly ran his thumb over the man’s knuckles, his ring. “And I told you I loved you. And you said it back.”
“Yeah,” Kaidan said, voice thick. “Yeah I remember that.”
“It was the first time we’d said it to each other.” Shepard pointed at the yellow ball, lingering behind the Normandy hologram. “That’s what I remember about those twenty-eight seconds.”
“That’s sweet, Shepard,” Kaidan touched Shepard’s face, gave a little smile. “That little yellow dot is about to go through a whole lot of shit in the next 10 minutes.” Shepard nodded, aware even now of the various cybernetics implanted into his body after this battle. “I’m sorry you had to go through it alone.”
“You were waiting,” Shepard said, at last. “That’s what matters.” Kaidan looked over his shoulder once more before leaning in and kissing Shepard. Shepard leaned back with a wry smile, “I think I’ve had enough hero worship for one day, what do you say we get out of here?” Kaidan nodded and took his hand. They slipped their dark glasses on and strode out of the museum arm in arm.

Today's topic: Deathwatch
Alright, due to popular demand let's try and do this
@strumwulf , @trat-yrrebeulb, @saintnuke-ac, I hope this sort of post is what you expected, and if anyone wants me to cover a specifc supposedly "bad" faction, just drop an ask into my inbox.
Todays's topic is the Deathwatch. As by a Metawatch article from three weeks ago sitting at the very bottom of the roster with a miserable 42% winrate, right there with Admech. In this post I'll put together a list that definetly will pack a punch on the table and definetly perform better than 42%.
Let's see what we are working with first. Our Army Rule is "Oath of Moment" - essentially "each round pick a target, go fuck them up with full hit rerolls". The detachment rule is 3 tactics to pick for a round, which is Sustained Hits 1, Lethal Hits, or Precision on a 6. All in all pretty simple, just fire up whatever is needed. Nothing here gives us specific instructions on list construction, so let's look at the Stratagems:

Aside from Armor of Contempt, each of those targets either ONE regular unit or TWO killteams. Adaptive Tactics is fairly lame as well, so we will spend our command points mostly on a) teleport 2 killteams around with Teleportarium and b) turn on one of the Rounds-Boost depending on the situation, either Hellfire or Kraken.
That gives us the first order to be effective: slap two Killteams in there, and we can effect the most points (and firepower) with this by using Proteus Killteams. Two big units are priced 360p each, which gives us a neat 720p core to work around. There's just a problem with that: those boys will never hold objectives. Ideally you always have them placed at max range, have them blast away, and then jump back up.
So what DOES actualy hold the objectives for us? For the homefield that is fairly simple: 5 man Infiltrator Squad. Their 12'' deepstrike denial shuts down so much possible enemy nonsense, making their inclusion for the homefield a no-brainer. We are now at 820p with that.
But what about other objectives? In general Space Marines are not good at holding objectives unless they throw a Terminator Brick on something. Their units are too pricy to be relegated for holding duty most of the time. Luckily, we don't have to be good if we can just grab the enemy homefield instead. Usually that's not easy for the faction, but among the exclusive Deathwatch units there is an Aircraft Transport: the Corvus Blackstar.

And would you look at that, it can transport EVERYTHING.
So what is the most annoying, hardest-to-remove, packs-a-punch unit we can send right on its way to the enemy homefield? Centurion Devastators of course! A squad of 3 with Grav Cannons should be able to deal with any big stuff the Blackstar's Hurricane Bolters can't shred - and would you look at that, they even get full rerolls when shooting a target on a marker. But wait, there's more! We still got three unit slots left on our party cruiser! It's a bit cramped, but we can still fit a unit of Eliminators in there! Very useful if the marker is full of units and you can't directly disembark on it: they can move after shooting, so you still got a shot of scoring the objective after blasting the enemy off it.
Adding that all together with what we already have that puts us at 1260p, and oh dear, we don't have any characters yet!
Remember the pitiful 5 man infiltrator squad we left to defend our base? Those people will just get shredded away by any sort of serious indirect fire, or especially ballsy deepstrikers, and then our primary scoring takes a nosedive. Turns out for just 70p you can eliminate that risk entirely: a Librarian in Phobos Armor gives essentially the entire unit Lone Operative. Since the enemy cannot deepstrike within that range due to the unit's ability, that means they are now ultra-safe. With the homefield now at maximal security, we are now at 1330p.
So what to do with the remaining points? Well, the Proteus Killteam does have a mirror: the Fortis Killteam. While the first gets a bonus for aiming at targets above half strenght, they get a bonus for hitting units below that. There's just one problem: they don't have deepstrike and out other Killteams are clogging up the Teleportarium. So we add a regular Apothecary with the Beacon Angelis enhancement to a squad of 10. Just in case those Plasma Boys blow themselves up, we now got a medic on standby.
Adding that to what we have puts us at 1640p. To make the most out of this, let's add a Watch Master and 5 Deathwatch Veterans - they are just there to carry the following Enhancement:

This levels up Oath of Moment to its old glory, AND gives you an extra use. Meanwhile the special weapons on the Veterans can pack quite the punch as well, even when they are just a small unit. The "makes stratagems more expensive" skill is also neat.
Overall: 1920 points by now.
What we do with the last 95 points is completly up to preference. I just threw a Callidus Assassin in there for scoring purposes, and that fits thematically with the Proteus Teams jumping around.

Notes on playing this list:
The most interesting part about this: the list has an extreme advantage when going second. Not only can you start deepstriking on the first turn with your Teleportarium, you can also RAPID INGRESS THE CORVUS BLACKSTAR in the enemy T2, meaning for your T2 you can already zip over to their homefield. The list is not ideal for secondary scoring (you will most certainly not even consider Investigating Signals with just the Callidus), but it does not have to be, for your focus is to ruin the enemy primary scoring by directly putting their homefield into your focus. And hey, "Capture Enemy Outpost" is 8 points, so having your Centurions parked there at the first chance you get definetly will also score a bit.
Your biggest worry is running out of command points for you have no generator in your list but that is something one can play around. The operating procedure should be fairly obvious: mark Oath of Moment Target -> let the Proteus Killteams blast them off the table. Eventually strike in the Fortis Team for cleanup duty. Meanwhile the Blackstar with its cargo has its own gameplan mostly independent from that.
The biggest issue for this list in a competititve setting is time, for your goal is to win the primary game in the long run. I recommend unit trays for the Proteus Killteams so taking them off the board and putting them back down is easy.
Last fun bit: I am not sure how this works on the rules specifically, but in this list you would have TWO instances of "make a enemy battle tactic stratagem worse". Of course that means you target their best + Command Reroll, but I am not sure if you can stack them. Putting Command Reroll at a 3CP cost sounds hillarious tho...

Chapter 2: Something's Missing…
The evac was taking too damn long according to Quaritch. When he was head of security, and still human, emergency air evacuation would have been completed in less than 45 minutes given their close proximity to Bridgehead. He was pacing angrily, his tail flipping wildly with every turn. The squad had the camp repacked in less than 10 minutes. At least he could rely on someone.
“Don’t worry, boss, won’t be long now.” Wainfleet said, checking his watch and glancing at Zdinarsk, who nodded to confirm the Samson was close while staring at her radar. Even Z-Dog had abstained from snapping her bright pink gum bubbles so as not to annoy the colonel.
Quaritch wanted to go off on a tirade about how they’d be halfway to base if he were still in charge, but his squad didn’t deserve that. He had loyal soldiers in his unit. Ja had immediately dropped the marine mode and worked on Spider. With the boy unconscious, the good doctor couldn’t remove his mask to even clean the bloody nose. He’d checked his heart rate, breathing, and done a quick brain scan with the rudimentary equipment he could carry in the field.
“He’ll need an MRI, CT, and neuroimaging.” Ja said, the only time Quaritch stopped leaving a path in the underbrush, “To start. And if you could get me the monitor reports from his…” He paused and his ears went back. “Questioning, it would-…”
“Consider it done.” Quaritch interrupted with a gruff tone. Anything to help Ja and the medical staff at Bridgehead figure out what brought on Spider’s sudden outburst. Outburst was a kind term for what they just witnessed.
Quaritch remembered a technician calling Spider ‘completely feral’ when he was first captured by the RDA. He screamed and cursed in English and Na’vi, tried to break the one-way mirror with the chair he’d been graciously offered then had taken away right after, and attempted to force open a security door that not even a dozen Na’vi could do. Quaritch saw that anger, but that was child’s play compared to the manic look in the boy’s eyes during the verbal assault.
“About goddamn time…” Quaritch growled when they heard the Samson coming inbound. They’d carefully moved Spider to a clearing so the aircraft could land instead of slinging him over his shoulder like the last time he transported the kid against his will.
“Someone grab the backboard.” Ja said to anyone close as he tucked the handheld brain scanner into a cargo pants pocket. But he was shouldered aside before anyone reached the aircraft to retrieve the stretcher.
“No time. Move out!” Quaritch said as he slid an arm under Spider’s back and knees, scooping him up easily and jogging over to the open side doors. He ducked as he shuffled towards the back of the Samson where there was more space to kneel on one knee and still hold the boy in his arms. He didn’t have many memories of holding the kid when he was an infant. Never thought he would get another chance...
The rest of the squad jumped on board and they were off. Back to the place Quaritch promised he’d keep Spider away from…

As much as Quaritch didn’t want to give him up, Wainfleet and Ja convinced their commanding officer to allow the hospital staff to take over Spider’s care when they reached the med bay. He didn’t want the boy out of his sight but what could he do at that moment?
Well, there was one thing.
“Lyle, with me.” Quaritch said as he started walking away. He kept going as he turned to point back at Ja. “Stay here and report as SOON as you get somethin’ from the kid or the doctors.”
Ja saluted and stood at attention in the entrance that doubled as a classic hospital waiting room, complete with terribly boring artwork on the wall.
Quaritch and Wainfleet marched right to the heart of Bridgehead City: the Sec-Ops command center. Until it had more civilian citizens, Bridgehead was just another military base. Even if he didn’t have security clearance, Quaritch wouldn’t be stopped as he walked straight into a conference room Ardmore was heading with other high ranking officers, RDA superiors, and holographic displayed representatives still back on Earth.
“Colonel Quaritch.” Ardmore said with a hint of feigned surprise. When it came to the city and the RDA, nothing happened on Pandora that the general didn’t know about. “Tired of the kid already?”
Whether it was coincidence or not that Ardmore asked about Spider, Quaritch steeled himself and kept a calm composure as he dutifully saluted his superior officer.
“Not exactly the issue, General Ardmore.” Quaritch said with such a cool tone that even Wainfleet was surprised considering how fired up he was from the forest until they crossed the threshold into the conference room. “The boy suffered a severe nosebleed and collapsed unconscious. An emergency evacuation seemed necessary for an asset in custody of the RDA, ma’am.”
Ardmore narrowed his eyes slightly. Well spoken and well played. She looked to her mix of real and holographic audience, “If you will excuse me, I apologize for this interruption. Colonel.”
She nodded as she turned towards her office door and led Quaritch in. Wainfleet stayed back, crossing his arms and scanning the rooms. He wasn’t sure he'd seen more stuffed shirts in one room before.
“You say the boy collapsed?” Ardmore asked as she casually rounded her desk to sit down and look at the colonel, “That’s unfortunate to hear. I suggest you consider leaving Mr. Socorro in the capable hands of our medical staff while you continue your field missions.”
“With all due respect, General, I took responsibility for him for a reason. I’m not about to abandon my responsibilities due to a little mishap. I’m still at your disposal, ma’am, but one mission at a time.” Quaritch said coolly though he was boiling inside. He didn’t expect the general to give a damn about some wild child raised by the enemy who beat even her toughest interrogation methods. Yet, he was still angered by her lack of concern. Or dare you think it…compassion?
Ardmore didn’t respond just yet. Loyalty, responsibility, mission. Quaritch was playing all the right cards, and he wasn’t in a place where she could question it.
“Is the boy’s condition stable?” Ardmore asked with very little interest.
“To be determined, ma’am.” Quaritch started, trying not to bite off his tongue with his sharp teeth every time he showed her extra respect, “That’s why I so rudely interrupted your meeting. My apologies.”
“You saved me really.” Ardmore said, sounding bored, “I’m sure you remember how tedious it can be explaining living on Pandora to those who’ve never set foot here. So how can I help with the asset, Miles?”
Hearing his own name shouldn’t make Quaritch feel an anxious twinge in his chest. He’d lived with it his whole life. But now…having heard the way Spider said it…this alter ego or whatever the hell Quaritch was dealing with. He had never heard his name spoken with such malice.
“My medic did a check on the boy out in the field but it’s hard to determine the correct treatment without knowing all possible triggers. I would like to have a full report of the boy’s medical reports from his interrogations.” Quaritch explained. He made the request without actually asking. Making it clear he wasn’t ASKING for anything.
The general went quiet and appraised the ten-foot-tall reincarnation of one of Pandora’s most reputable and ruthless past inhabitants. Of course she knew the human Miles Quaritch had a son. She had taps on every human that stayed behind on the moon, including the ones born there.
Miles ‘Spider’ Socorro was practically the poster child for humanity’s successful transition to life off planet Earth. The first human born on Pandora; an intergalactic celebrity. But Ardmore didn’t have time for “celebrities”, the RDA could deal with the PR concerns. She needed her soldiers in line to keep the hostiles in line. If the head of her greatest tactical unit was distracted, it could cause a ripple effect through the ranks.
“Consider it done, Colonel.” Ardmore said, surprisingly agreeable considering Quaritch would likely respond negatively to what he learned, “So long as I can continue to count on your assistance with the hostiles. You’re not here to babysit, Miles, you’re here to finish what you started.”
“Understood, General Ardmore.” Quaritch said with another salute. Until the RDA found some hostiles to pacify, he would focus on Spider.
Ardmore kept her word when she said Ja would have the full medical report by the time Quaritch and Wainfleet returned to the medical wing. Sure enough, they entered the waiting area to see Ja crouched down against the wall and staring intently at a tablet. The colonel noticed how his medic, who was the calmest under pressure of the whole squad, looked unsettled.
“Ja, everything good?” Quaritch asked as he and Wainfleet approached. The medic looked up, his ears perking straight up from pinned back against his head.
“Sir, can we speak privately?” Ja said in a quiet, rushed voice.
Quaritch felt that twinge of anxiety come back and it was spreading through his chest. The three recoms ducked uncomfortably into an empty triage room and waited until their sensitive ears heard no one nearby. Quaritch looked back to Ja, he was crouched down and staring at the tablet again.
“Don’t leave me hangin’, doc.” Quaritch said with narrow eyes. He exchanged a look with Wainfleet, who just shrugged at Ja’s continued silence, before looking back to Ja. “Corporal. Speak up.”
“Sir, may I speak freely?” Ja said as he looked up to Quaritch. He received a prompt nod from his commanding officer and let out a sigh before asking, “What the fuck?”
“You’re gonna have to elaborate.” Quaritch growled, ears going back and tail flipping. Just what the hell did that report say to make one of his men speak so bluntly?
“Sir, how many of Spider’s interrogations did you witness?” Ja asked as he was swiping around on the tablet’s holographic screen.
“Two.” Quaritch said, eyes roving over Ja’s quick moving hands, “First interrogation lasted all of three minutes before he passed out. Second one lasted almost an hour and they didn’t get jack from the neuroscanner.”
“I’m not surprised…” Ja said as he turned the tablet around for the other recoms to look at. There were four separate images of top view brain scans. From left to right and top to bottom, the amount of bright oranges and red increased in the frontal lobe. Ja went on to explain, “Sir, each of these scans are a follow-up from a different session in the neuroscanner. They threw him in there four times, I’m guessing two more times between the first session when he passed out and the last one before you took custody. That’s twice the legal limit for this type of intensive interrogation per the UN’s Humane Treatment of POW Act.”
Quaritch stared at the scans, listening to Ja’s words. Spider had been interrogated while hooked up to the neuroscanner four times. FOUR times. And he only knew about two of them! He insisted on being present for the interrogations to make sure they went smoothly.
He felt himself feeling sick by how quickly anger was bubbling up inside him. Ja was continuing to explain the risks while Wainfleet stared at Quaritch, who was completely detached from the conversation. Eventually, the second in command told the medic to hold off on the explanation.
“Boss?” Wainfleet asked cautiously. He cleared his throat and spoke louder, “Colonel.”
“How’d this get past medical approval?” Quaritch asked quietly. He didn’t doubt for a second what the RDA was willing to do to get results. Hell, he’d invented most of the carrot and stick techniques used on Pandora!
“All these records have ‘Restrictions Omitted’.” Ja answered.
“How does that happen?” Quaritch felt the anger in his gut prompting his heart rate to pick up.
“I don’t know for sure, sir, but to bypass medical restrictions for something like this?” Ja theorized, though the politics of the situation weren’t his specialty, “You’d have to…not be protected by them.”

I have had the pleasure of meeting Yandin once before, in the aftermath of the Indomitus Crusade's arrival over Taralus. The navigator records on the Macragge's Honour had listed that dusty old ball of drab rock and snow as an Armoury World, so there was a fair amount of bemusement all round when we got word of a sizeable contingent of Astartes dug in on the planet's surface. Initial communications indicated they'd been holed up for some time in an old ruin near one of the old space elevators. They identified themselves as Iron Fists, and were claiming the planet as their ancestral chapter world. By all account, Crusade Command spent no small effort to screen them for foul play, corruption or infiltration. While the Iron Fists' claim to Taralus was eventually upheld, there was a general interest from higher up in gathering more information about the chapter and verifying some of the accounts that were coming out of Taralus. Remembrancer Anjelika Biscari led the effort, and took a small team down to the planet's surface to conduct interviews, appraise structures and write reports. I was still fairly new to the role then, and my visit to the Godspire anchorage terminal was the first time I worked alone in the field. Biscari had gone down a few hours before me and had emphasised an unusual need for brevity. "Broad strokes only", I believe her words were, and I didn't understand what she meant until I stepped out of the lander and saw the planet surface for the first time. The sights of war stretched all the way out to the horizon, and the ragged landscape of the Godspire mountains were littered with the husks of drop pods, tanks and bunkers. You couldn't walk twenty meters without passing a pile of burning dead, and it was here I first encountered sergeant Cosrau Yandin, sixth squad, second company Iron Fists. The moment stuck in my head rather prominently, as I recall he was helping a couple of disposal operatives clear a maintenace passage. The two men had been struggling with the body of a metahuman, still in its power armour, and as the sergeant reached in and dragged it out, I decided on a  bit of a whim to snag a pict-capture. It was only once I looked up that I realised I'd just got my first ever look at a Chaos Space Marine. Regrettably, I was only able to spend a few hours with the sergeant on Taralus. Broad strokes, Biscari had asked for, so that was all I could really capture. The Crusade did not linger long at Taralus, and before long the Iron Fists were well behind us. It's only been in recent months, as the Grand Conclave of Baal winds down, that I've had the opportunity and freedom to track the Iron Fists down and produce more of a complete history of the Chapter. It also gave me an opportunity to present Yandin, now Captain of the seventh company, with the pict-capt I took on our first meeting. (or rather, a remaster: most of my original pict-logs were scrambled quite badly during a brush with the bleak coil two years ago, so I had a colleague of mine, Artov Ilqar, recreate the pict with oil on canvas. See attached.) I've since had the opportunity to interview Captain Yandin on a number of aspects of his chapter's history, and hope to catalogue some of the more notable testimonies, treatises and accounts here. No further surprises with the updated Command Squad or Sternguard Veterans. Models all track closely with their discontinued Firstborn counterparts, aside from the typical Primaris detailing common to all modern Mk.X Space Marines.
I don't know that the range is really enhanced by the inclusion of a heavier heavy flamer, but there's no unringing that particular bell.

The Fractal Knights:
The Fractal Knights chapter is made up of the geneseeds of many legions separate chapters that were nearly destroyed in a brutal campaign. The chapters' colors are dark blue, white, and black. The companies of the chapter were named in honor of the fallen chapters with the most surviving members that make up the majority of said company. Their battle cry is "Honor the fallen, and protect those yet standing." Their home is the Fortress Monastery, The Mourning Star.
1st Company: Unity Company. (Named as such for it being made up of the best of all companies, and thus the best of all the fallen chapters, representing unity)
2nd Company: Celestial Knights Company. (The Celestial Knights were a Dark Angel Successor)
3rd Company: Wings of Dawn Company. (The Dawns Wings were a Blood Angel Successor.)
4th Company: Nova Dragons Company. (The Nova Dragons were a Salamander Successor)
5th Company: Tundra Wolves Company. (The Tundra Wolves were a Space Wolf Successor)
6th Company: The Imperial Paragons Company. (The Imperial Paragons were an Ultramarine successor)
7th Company: Iron Hammer Company. (The Iron Hammers were a Iron Hand successor)
8th Company: Storm Hawks Company. (the Storm Hawks were a Whitescar successor)
9th Company: Stellar Wardens Company (The Stellar Wardens were an Imperial Fist successor)
10th Company: Shadow Talon Company. (The Shadow Talons were a Ravenguard Successor)
Other Chapters that had fallen but only have squads named after them are ones of unknown origins, such as The Lunar Lords, The Blood Fangs, The Eternal Scholors, The Emperor's Scions, The Marauders Unbound, The Blazing Pheonix, The Dark Vigilance, The Hallowed Reapers, and many more, including the most mysterious one, The Serpants Eye.
Chapter Master: Lucifer Sammael, The Bringer of Lights Dawn, Champion of the Dreaded Campaign, and Lord of the Shattered Remnants. Many are unsure of who's geneseed lies within him. However, many believe him to be either a son of the Lion or Sanguinius. Either way, he had proven himself time and again, earning the rank of Chapter Master. All they know is that when he led the broken chapters to victory in the final days of the dreaded campaign, his armor had been so badly damaged, its heraldry was stripped away.
Honorguard Captain: Malakbel Dolico, Furious Castellan of the Vermilion Seal. Once a champion of The Lunar Lords, one of many chapters of unknown origin, and one that had great skill in warfare. He sought to maintain the strength and honor of this new chapter so that it doesn't meet the same fate as the old, and thus he proved himself worthy of leading the Honorguard.
1st Captain: Octavius Augustanus, Unwavering Heretic Slayer of the Celestial Nexus. A survivor of The Blood Fangs chapter, a chapter of unknown origin known for strength and brutality to their enemies, and turning the ground to blood-stained mud. He fought viciously and led many in defiance against unbearable odds and was a veteran of many battles, thus leading to him becoming the captain of the chapters veterans.
2nd: Captain: Raziel Faross, Grim Liberator of the Cleansing Spire. A mostly silent warrior of the Celestial Knights, who is one of few words, only speaking when necessary, as he believes actions are most important to lead. He has shown this many times, as those of his brothers are finest at bringing death when under his command.
3rd Captain: Dominiel Norea, Vengeful Warrior of the Ebon Blade. A somber survivor of the Wings of Dawn, he seeks to avenge not just those of his brothers who fell long ago, but all of the people of the Imperium who have suffered at the hands of the enemies of Man.
4th Captain: Skatar'nev Kal, Noble Herald of the Liberated Beacon. A son of the Nova Dragons, he led the effort of evacuating civilians during the dreaded campaign. Because of him, many had survived to tell the tale of the marines that died in those gruesome battles.
5th Captain: Grimrek the Berserker, Brash Rune Carvee of the Blood-Ice Saga. The Tundra Wolves was once where his loyalty lied. He served as a Rune Priest before being granted the rank of captain in his new chapter. After the fall of the Tundra Wolves, he hunted down the bastards that brought its ruin. He had nearly died several times during that time, and even lost his arm. But not once did the enemy make him fall.
6th Captain: Octavius Evidurius, Unwavering Commander of the Besieged Brethren, once a master strategist of the Imperial Paragons, and had devised many attack plans that resulted in swift victory.
7th Captain: Aratatus Mohl, Stalwart Smith of the Platinum Crusade. Once a Tech Marine of the Iron Hammer chapter, he had made sure all of his brothers in battle had their warmachines ready for whatever was to come. During a fateful battle, however, he was was grievously wounded, and placed in a dreadnought. Despite this, he still holds the rank of captain, and his confinement has only made him mightier.
8th Captain: Temukh Ilkhen, Agile Tracker of the Martial Rift. He called the Storm Hawks home before it fell. After that, he joined Grimrek in the hunt of vengeance before they returned to the rest of the Fractal Knights.
9th Captain: Adrim Pertadias, somber tactician worn down by brutal defenses against enemy wretches at Adrallasha IV. Once a member of the Stellar Wardens, the defenses held out as long as they did only because of his fortifications. He had held back brutal assaults that would have broken lesser men.
10th Captain: Brakna Kurthovae, Untiring Crusader of the Emperor's Bastion. He led the scouts and vanguard of the Shadow Talons in wiping out the enemy command structure during the dreaded campaign. It was what made victory even conceivable due to his efforts in leaving the enemy uncoordinated.
Chief Librarian: Ahmyn Abathon, Sanctioned Protector of the Hallowed Revelations. A skilled Librarian, he was but a Lexicanium of the The Eternal Scholors chapter, a chapter of unknown origin that was mostly made up of psykers. When his old chapter fell, he made it his mission to preserve the secrets of all the fallen chapters so they wouldn't be forgotten.
Chief Apothecary: Vispenarr Kiresh, Relentless Son of the Martyr's Conquests. Once an Apothecary of the Blazing Pheonix Chapter, an unknown chapter with many arogant individuals. He, too, was as arogant as his brothers, once having been a proud master of the blade, until he failed to save so many during the dreaded campaign. After that, he swore to save as many as possible by becoming an Apothecary. Through his dedication, he had risen up the ranks, reaching the status he carries to this day.
Master of the forge: Corradin Thassurius, Stubborn Conquerer of the Theldrite Stronghold. He served in the Marauders Unbound, another chapter of unknown origin, but had great skill in the art of the siege. He has made great and mighty war machines, capable of crushing any defense.
Master of Sanctity: Vasseo Baalald, Malevolent Heretic Slayer of the Obsidian Cloister. Once a member of a chapter called the Emperor's Scions, a chapter of unknown origins, which was a heavily religious chapter. He was one who constantly sought to follow the tonctrines of the Emperor, as read in the Lectitio Divinitatus, and thus, it was only a matter of time before he became the master of the chaplains.
For the armor design, the majority of the body is a dark blue, the shoulders and knee pads are black with white trimming on the shoulders. The helmets are black with a white faceplate. With sergeant, it's has a red helmet and white face plate, and with veterans, it is completely white. With veteran seargeants, it's red with white stripe and face plate. With lieutenants, a black helmet with a red stripe with white trimming and face plate, for ancients it is blue with a white stripe and face plate, and with captains it is black with a white face plate and a blue stripe with white trimming. The Aquila/Imperialis, as well as any other ornamentation worn by higher ranks, is either gold or silver. Their armor often times carries a knightly design, even often wearing crimson red tabards and hoods over their armor.

Why Tiny-Scale Wargames?

For me, a wargame succeeds or fails based on how it makes me think. When I look down at the pieces on the table, am I thinking about strategy? About the drama of my little guys? Or am thinking about little plastic toys on a table?
The default scale for miniatures games is just close enough that you can see your individual figures doing things. That makes sense. The companies want to sell toys, so you want to make a game where the toys do cool things.
But, once you zoom out far enough that individuals no longer matter, something amazing happens. Your perspective shifts, and you begin thinking of your little tabletop battle in the same way you'd think of a real battle. The game is no longer about individuals, but lines of battle, flanks, and C&C.
Space Marines in Epic Armageddon don't win because Lieutenant Ironpecs is really good at hitting things with a sword, they win because they follow orders when other armies would be struggling with morale.
Battles in Drop Zone Commander aren't won on shooting, they're won by seeing ways to use the terrain to create a place for your transports to land.
Darth Vader may be terrifying, but in Star Wars Armada, he's one guy in one TIE Fighter among hundreds.
That's something you can't get from squad-scale wargames, and that's why you should care about games with tiny miniatures.
