No further surprises with the updated Command Squad or Sternguard Veterans. Models all track closely with their discontinued Firstborn counterparts, aside from the typical Primaris detailing common to all modern Mk.X Space Marines.
I don't know that the range is really enhanced by the inclusion of a heavier heavy flamer, but there's no unringing that particular bell.

My hobbing for the day. Making use of my proxy Marine bits in the style of Sternguard Veterans.
Thank the Emperor for shoulder pads because the extra bulk from these torsos makes it a bit difficult for normal Space Marine arms to fit properly.

Well, for all intents and purposes, the Leviathan Iron Snakes are complete, all that's missing is their basing material.

For the record, it’s hilarious that Malum Caedo, protagonist of Boltgun, is depicted as a sternguard.
Not a vanguard, the veterans first into a conflict.
But a sternguard, the guys supposed to cover a retreat.
From a game design standpoint this makes sense - vanguard are close-combat specialists while sternguard use ranged weapons, and Boltgun being a FPS with an array of guns makes a sternguard the natural choice.
But there’s something innately funny about this guy supposed to be the frosty, tactical-minded type turning out to be a high-octane one-man-rampage who apparently decides “cover the retreat” means “dive in pulling triggers until the enemy stops noticing anything else.”

3D printed Sternguard Veterans in Mark 6 Corvus pattern armor. A massive project I’ve been meaning to do for a while. I love Sternguard Veterans but this has been my first 40K 3D printing project.
They don’t have guns yet because the ones I printed off didn’t fit.
Not pictured: the 10th one with his cape covered in 10 liters of superglue that still won’t stay in place.
Also if anyone wants to tell me what the white dust is then that’d be fine by me.

Two squads of mkvi sternguard veterans. (I'll only buy primaris models to use the parts. I'm a mkvi corvus pattern and firstborn simp)
Tumblr media
And lieutenant Augustinius. He is referred to as Aggu by everyone, sometimes Augo, which are Greenlandic forms of the name. He gets weirded out when he's called Augustinius.

mini of the month time!
this month's mini was a sternguard veteran, but you know me, I can't stick to a brief to save my life...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
so here is a plasmagun toting, heavy bolter wielding veteran techmarine... thing!
I even tried my hand at a touch of OSL, and I don't think it was too awful!

Look, ma! White helmet.
With all the craze coming from the release of the Leviathan box set, I wanted to get in on it as well. Though, I didn't purchase the box.
The legs and the torso were bits that I purchased from Grim Dark Armory . And the rest were from the Intercessor sprues I have.
The torsos aren't a perfect fit. Funny, given that they're from the same sculptor. But, seeing the model built and painted, it's not that much of an issue.
And yeah, I was stoked on the white helmet. It's odd how the helmet was easier to paint than the tabard, which didn't get such smooth coverage.
My first Ultramarine that I painted since getting into the hobby last year.
I will next try these bits but with a Salamander. I have a power fist I've been saving for a special occasion .

Final priming of completed models.
Tumblr media
5 Terminators, 5 Sternguard Veterans, 10 Infiltrators, Terminator Chaplain, and Phobos Lieutenant.
Annoyingly, some of the Infiltrators didn't get an even coating on like the right side of their back. So that'll have to be cleaned up with the pot.
But other than that, all models are primed.
