Tumblr media
You haven’t been inside a bar this crowded since you graduated from university.
You settle in the corner, avoiding nearly everyone’s eyes, hands cupped around a chipped glass full to the brim with beer.
You weren’t expecting an island on the brink of a full winter assault to be so… lively.
The room is a party. A party full of people who know one another well enough to call them by first name. There can’t be more than one hundred people living in this town year-round, and you think they might all be inside this dimly light pub, crowded around the waxed cedar bar, laughing and smiling with like they’ve not seen each other in eons. Like they’re long lost, disjointed members of the same family.
Well, all most all of them.
You don’t see the Ranger. The Caribbean blue eyes, brusque moustache and beard, low brim black beanie, all are missing.
Somehow, it doesn’t surprise you.
He didn’t seem the socializing type.
Still…
You hadn’t expected such a… clipped welcome.
And you surely hadn’t expected your ferry buddy, the spunky six-year-old girl who talked to you for most of the ride, to be his daughter.
Somehow, that made his cold, distant nature even worse.
Here’s a man capable of warmth; his smile said, when he scooped his daughter into his arms. Here’s someone you can trust. Someone who is friendly, genuine.
Just not towards you. He was stiff, uncomfortable, and even though the drive to town was fairly short, he barely spoke to you, answering your questions with the shortest syllables possible.
He was every bit the Ranger you had heard so little about. Every bit the man turned myth.
And handsome. Rugged.
Older.
Your new friend in the backseat was better company than the man you’d be working with for better part of a year, the Ranger who you’re afraid you can’t do it without. Can’t navigate the island or the tides without him, can’t do half the work you needed to do without a partner. The thing his role is supposed to be, when needed.
Worse was, the provided housing is a duplex, and he’s on the other side, a fact he gritted through his teeth this afternoon when he dropped you off, gesturing to the right side of the house with a callous wave. His front door was as green as the forest.
The other was black.
Your boss did warn you.
She was tactful, cautious. The island itself carries a reputation; one some may be intimated by, but not you.
Who are you to fear stewards of the land? They are more akin to you than others, after all.
John though, she lamented with a mournful expression, John was different.
“John is less than pleased about this placement but assures me it won’t be an issue.”
“Less than pleased?”
“He’s… protective, but he’ll warm up to you in time, I’m sure. A few days, and he’ll be showing you the ropes. Don’t worry.”
You keep your nose in your beer. When you’re finished, the next one comes immediately, without prompting, and the bartender swoops low, voice heavy in your ear.
“On the house.” He winks, and the woman to your left slides closer, curiosity wet on her lips between her drink and the question you know is coming.
“You’re the scientist?”
“No, the marine biologist. Cetologist, to be specific.” You cut to the quick and she stares at you, rightfully so. You have the good grace to grimace. “Er, sorry. I’m uh… not great with people.”
“That’s alright. Neither are we, really.” She lifts her drink with a cheers, gesturing to the room, and knocks it back. “So, what’s a cetologist?”
“I study whales.” She nods knowingly.
“Ah. You’re here for the pod.”
“Well, I’m interested in the humpbacks too, but yes. I’m mostly here to study the residents.” You were only here to study the pod, but you never said no to a whale, no matter notoriety, or size. You might be getting paid to study the residents, but you were going to soak up every second you could on this island. It’s wilderness was protected and almost pristine, an untamed landscape of mountain and sea too great of a call for you to resist.
The woman stares at you, intrigued, thin veil of amusement dancing in her eyes. “We’re happy to have you. You respect us, we’ll respect you.” The bartender pauses, shining a glass with a hole pocked rag, and glares at her. “Most of us will. Can’t say how John’ll take to ya.”
“Oh, I work on my own mostly.” You lie, giving her a fake smile that feels awful, and she humphs.
“Well, it was nice to meet you…” she flounders, and you provide your name, letting it settle in the air, others turning to give you a questioning look, like they’ve been waiting for it too, and she grins, repeating it with a handshake. “Skip the shortcuts through the forest at night.” She adds over her shoulder, hopping off the stool and wading into the crowd without another word, leaving you confused.
Skip the… skip the what?
“Ignore her.” The bartender hastily reassures you, but the emotion doesn’t touch his eyes, lingering gazes in the room enough to have you swallowing the rest of your beer in haste and beelining out the door.
The walk to your rental is short, up the street and take a left, then another, until you reach the only house at the top of the hill, a duplex with a sweeping, wide planked front porch.
The top step creaks beneath your weight. An ember glows in the dark.
“Jesus chr-“ Your heart slams against your ribs, pulse thundering between your ears.
He’s silent. The cigar illuminates his face, a flicker of brilliant blue, crystal clear and piercing, pinned onto you like a laser.
“It’s late.” It’s the admonishment of a father, and indignant rage flourishes down your spine.
“I’m an adult, thanks.” He’s unmoved by your spite. Settled like the cedars that grow at the heart of this place, tall enough to blot out the sun, wide enough to build houses, boats.
He pulls. The orange cinder burns red, honeyed smoke and mahogany sweetening the air.
The smoking is attractive. It's intriguing, dangerous, and draws you closer, other foot coming to rest on the top step, tempting fate.
"You shouldn't be out around here late."
"The entire town is down at the bar." You shoot back, still rising in anger, rattling with it. You’re a grown woman, who is this guy to tell you what you can and can’t do?
His jaw flexes, mouth tightening into a straight line, invisible string pulling him taut before he speaks again.
"They live here, know their way around. It's not always safe." The protest builds, words coming quick, rapid-fire, but before you can speak, you lose your voice to a chorus of howls.
Wolves.

Abandon | Tighnari x Reader
𓆩⟡𓆪 Beware! This is angst with no comfort! Otherwise, please enjoy~
𓆩⟡𓆪 I made this a bit shorter than it was intended but I didn’t want to make it too long and I felt like the ending was better this way.

"Ah... sorry. I'm just not in a place where I'm looking for a relationship. Thank you for your feelings; thank you for loving me. But, I can't return that love... not yet anyway."
Those were the words Tighnari had for you when you first confessed to him almost two years ago. Of course it broke your heart, but it was probably the nicest let down you could think of. You were upset, of course, but who were you to question his feelings? Tighnari was always busy with work and his studies to be in a relationship.
Relationships never seemed like they were for him, but his words had given you some inkling of hope that fueled your own feelings. The longer you spent around Tighnari, the more you felt your love for him grow. It truly felt endless. You never felt as if Tighnari took you for granted, he was just as any good friend would be. He supported you, was kind to you, encouraged you, and never judged you. Yet, there was always a feeling of emptiness that invaded your chest when you were around him.
Discontent.
No matter what, you were never satisfied with Tighnari's kindness towards you. It was never something you ever mentioned or acted upon, but you always felt like it wasn't enough. Unsurprisingly, you wanted more. You were in love with him and the gentle shoulder pats always left you wanting more.
That's when you realized your feelings had gotten out of hand. At first, being around Tighnari was enough. Just being able to see him, hear his voice, and helping to contribute to his work was enough. You weren't sure when it stopped, but now you needed to do something about it.
So, over the course of a month, you slowly began to get busier with your work. Twice a week, you would spend time with Tighnari, Cyno, Kaveh, and Alhaitham, usually playing Genius Invocation TCG. But you stopped attending due to taking on more work. Unfortunately, this led to some adverse health effects, but that was expected.
Consequently, you were called out by all four of your friends, especially Tighnari, who demanded you take some time off to take care of yourself. You felt guilty, avoiding your close friends the way you did. One thing you knew you couldn’t do was go cold turkey on Tighnari. It was a thought you just couldn’t handle so that’s why you were taking it slowly.
See, this is where things fell apart. It was a weekend and you had a day off. You went out with a friend and as you were heading home, you happened to run into the group and Cyno invited you to play Genius Invocation TCG.
“Sorry, I’ve been here a while and I’m tired.” You lied, giving them a halfhearted wave.
“Oh come on, (y/n).” Kaveh said with a frown as he placed his cards face down. “It’s been a while since you spent time with us. It’ll be fun! Hey! You can pester Tighnari about his new girlfriend.”
“Kaveh!” Tighnari hissed at his words but his friend had already spoken. Your entire body went rigid at Kaveh’s words and for a moment, everything fell silent. Your heart sank, the pit of anxiety grew within you, and the emotions slowly began to bubble.
Tighnari’s eyes slowly shifted to you, seeing that heartbroken look in your eyes. He wasn’t ready to see that. To see just how much the idea would hurt you. The remorse he fell made him realize he wasn’t as innocent as he pretended to be.
There was a very awkward silence that fell upon the group as everyone looked between you and Tighnari. The forest ranger looked guilty and you looked hurt. Even Alhaitham started to feel a little bad when he saw your face. Yet, you forced a smile, blinked back the tears, and looked at Kaveh which made the architect flinch a little.
“Sorry, I don’t have time for gossip. I’ve got an early day tomorrow but have fun on my behalf. And Tighnari, congrats on the new relationship. Didn’t know you had it in you.” There was a way you spoke that added to the guilt Tighnari felt. He knew you didn't mean that as a compliment.
With a wave, you turned and left, making all eyes land on Tighnari. The awkward silence continued for a moment before Alhaitham finally broke it.
“What the hell was that?” As usual, he was straightforward, needing answers to why you reacted the way you did.
“N-nothing. I’m sure they’re fine.” Tighnari lied as he looked at his cards. Yet, even though his eyes scanned the faces of the cards, he wasn’t thinking about the game or any strategy. He was worried about you because he knew the hope he gave you had just come crashing down. Yet, he didn’t move. The uncomfortable atmosphere remained around the four, but Tighnari remained where he was seated. ⎯⎯ ୨ A Little Later ୧ ⎯⎯
Your walk home was dreadful. Some pathetic part of you wished Tighnari would chase after you but he never did. Your entire walk home was filled with sniffling as you tried to bury the sadness down, which ultimately failed. Yet almost every moment was just waiting for him to catch up and apologize or even explain what was going on.
The words just kept repeating over and over in your head. Tighnari was in a relationship? He never told you any such thing. You weren’t even aware he had been looking. A bitter laugh escaped your lips as you approached the hill that led up to your home. You were so desperate, weren’t you? Hell, maybe he was going to tell you but you stopped hanging around him a few weeks ago.
You fooled yourself into acting as if you were completely unaware. You wanted Tighnari to love you back but acted as if it fine that he didn’t. Even after he rejected you, you hoped he would just one day come to you and declare he changed his mind. You dreamt of that day so many times, yet out of all the scenarios you made up, this wasn’t one of them.
You saw the look in his eyes. He knew how you felt and there was some inkling of guilt within his gaze. Yet, knowing that he might have felt some form of realization brought you no solace. You didn’t care if he was understood- not right now anyway. Knowing him, he probably wasn't even sorry.
Who was this girl he was dating? Did she work with him? Work with one of the others? Did you know her?
So many questions filled your mind that would remain unanswered for the foreseeable future. Your hand rubbed your wet cheek as you pushed your door open and closed it behind you. Your other hand mindlessly slid against the door and finding the lock, and turning it.
Your home felt… dreary. There was that silence that made the loneliness settle within you. Dropping your bag at your feet, you just walked inside and laid down on your couch. Your eyes stare at the ceiling and you were acutely aware when your vision began to blur with tears.
Soft sobs escaped your lips no matter how hard you tried to choke them down. You were angry. Angry at yourself for feeling this way, angry at Tighnari for giving you hope the day you confessed, angry at that girl who had him or whatever. No matter what you did, the tears just wouldn't stop. So, you just let go- you let those emotions flow out of you instead of holding them back.
You officially had to move on. Tighnari really didn’t feel the same way and you needed to let go of these stupid feelings. He wasn’t obligated to love you and you weren’t obligated to be friends with him. Especially since it was so painful. But that dull ache returned and you looked around your living space for any form of comfort. Yet, there was none. You were all alone.
There was a lingering thought in your head which kept reminding you every few moments that… Tighnari never came after you.

“Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!” Nico groaned from the extra weight on his bed and turned over.
“Asher.” Nico’s accent came through and the boy giggled, “Uncle Nico! It’s time to get up. It’s your first game today.”
“Yes, I know, meine liebe. But that means I need my sleep.”
“Uncle Nico what does ‘min- mina- lib-lirba’ mean.”
Nico sits up and scoots back so his back is flush agains the headboard and moves his nephew into his lap, “It’s meine liebe, schatz, and it means ‘my love’. And before you ask, schatz means hon.”
Asher nods excitedly, thoroughly entranced with his family’s native language. Nico continues to speak and tell Asher different German words when Anna knocks on his door, “Ash, what did I tell you last night about waking your uncle up?”
“Not to do it.”
“It’s alright, schatz. No biggie.”
“Mommy! Did you know that sc-schatz means ‘hon’?”
Anna shakes her head, “No, I did not know that, my love. Now how about we make some breakfast.”
Asher nodded his head once more and raced out of the bedroom and into the kitchen, “I’m sorry about him waking you up, Neeks. It’s been a long week.”
Nico gets up and throws one of his shirts on before going over to his sister, “I promise you, it’s okay. I can only imagine how draining it is, You’re doing great.” He kisses her on the forehead and she smiles walking away to make some food.
✧༺✎༻∞
Asher could not contain his excitement. Anna was lucky that she even got him to go down for a nap earlier right before the game. He made Anna get to the Prudential Center before the doors were even open, having Nico go and get them.
Asher excitedly clambered down from his mom’s grasp and went to grip his uncle’s outstretched hand. Anna followed behind the two, looking around at the arena along checking her phone whenever they stopped so Asher could ask questions. When the clubhouse came into view, Asher ran to the door and tried to open it, “Woah woah woah, there kumpel.”
“I wanna see everybody!” Asher bounced on his feet, extremely tempted to start running around the hallways.
“One moment, Ash.” Nico knocked on the door making sure it was decent before tkaing his nephew into the crowded room.
“Hi everyone!”
“Hi Asher.” Everyone let out their greetings and Asher went around saying hi to everyone.
“Hi Uncle Jesp. Hi Uncle Gravy. Hi Uncle Dougie. Hi Uncle Cloudy. Hi Uncle Jonas. Hi Uncle Tater Tot. Hi Uncle Dawson. Hi Uncle Bernier. Hi Jack! Mommy this is my new friend Jack!”
Anna looked up from her phone and in between her son and Jack, “I see honey. Go ahead and ask him, if you want.”
He nodded, “Jack, can you guess my five favorite things?” Asher loved to have people guess his favorite things. Nobody knew why he did, yet it was always funny how mad he got if someone got it wrong.
“I’m gonna say dinosaurs, airplanes, rainbows, and chicken nuggets.” Asher nodded his head as Jack spoke looking happy that he was gonna get them all right, “And the New York Rangers.”
Asher gasped in offense, “No! Why would I like the Rangers, Jack?” Jack shrugged, “I’m just joking, little man. You’re favorite team is obviously the Devils.”
He nodded in approval and walked back over to his mom, “Bye everyone. Good luck!”
Everyone waved at the little boy as he and Anna walked out of the locker room. She took him to their seats, right near the glass per his request. They waited until warmups, Asher making Anna take pictures of him and the rink with his jersey on as people piled into The Rock. The boy made friends with the poeple who sat around him, a nice young couple, a family with two kids, and a group teenage boys, who he was the biggest fan of.
The boys played rock, paper, scissors with him along with allowing him to play on their phones. When warmups started. Asher was standing and banging on the glass trying to get one of his uncles’ attention. When Ryan came over he started chanting, “Uncle Gravy! Uncle Gravy! Uncle Gravy!” IN reutnr, Ryan threw him a puck and he squealed.
The people beside them laughed at the boy’s antics, yet that wasn’t the last that they would hear from the boy. Whenever the Devils would score, he would chant their scorers name and then those who got the assist. Whenever the Blackhawks scored, he would boo saying something about how it wasn’t Bernier’s fault. And when the Devils got into the penalty box Asher would look towards his mom and “whisper”, “Mommy, Uncle …, did something bad.” When the Blackhawks got a penalty he screamed “Sentence to life” which Anna has no clue where he learned it from but had a sneaking suspicion.
When Jack got the OT winner Asher was beyond happy, screaming, “Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack!”
Anna took him to see the boys after the game and even allowed them to take the two out to dinner to celebrate the first game, and win, of the season.

Grim Ranger.
Ellie Williams x Fem!reader, Abby Anderson x Fem!reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Synopsis - you, a young journalist have been unexpectedly invited to an annual private party on an island. Sera Wells, one of the most influential people in your life when it comes to your work, is the host. You find yourself surrounded by not only famous and or rich acquaintances, but in the middle of the storm. But, that’ll be the least of your worries for your stay.
a.n - So glad I got this idea..This series is an interactive ‘your choice’ murder mystery!! *audience cheers*..I’d love to hear any theories you guys might have as the story progresses! This series is heavily inspired by the ‘Murder By Choice’ mobile game in case u wanna play it! This is the song of the series :) Hope u enjoy <3
warnings - provocative language, mentions of a murder, smut in later chapters, this is the beginning of the series so it may be boring (trust me pls).
The jet shook as your body couldn’t help but freeze up. Anyone would be nervous about this, right? You looked over to the pilot who gave you a soft smile before mouthing an ‘I’m sorry.’
You just stood silent and looked over to your friend, Jesse, to see if he was visibly shaken up or not. But he barely acknowledged it, or you, just mouthing lyrics to a song with his headphones on. You let out a sigh before the pilot spoke up.
Apologies for the turbulence, there is a nasty storm behind us.
You tried to avoid the worry bubbling up in your chest, just focused on getting to your destination in one piece. You picked up your phone and noticed it was 4:53..you were set to arrive at 5:00PM. Almost there, you thought.
Serveral minutes later..
The jet landed, and you and Jesse had grabbed your luggage, you were overwhelmed by the amount of people standing on the balcony but you tried to feign confidence as you were surrounded by affluent people..First impressions always mattered.
Your eyes scanned everyone, and they all seemingly were in their own world or communicating with one another. You thanked the pilot and began walking towards everyone. And you caught the eye of two women.
Ellie Williams; Famous writer.
Abby Anderson; Professional car salesman.
They both looked at you, seemingly trying to get your attention, but you went towards..
Ellie.
Abby.
After greeting the woman, everyone walked to the back patio, leaving their luggage in the front. The people seemed trustworthy enough. Besides, what would they have to steal?
You eyed the flickering bulbs and the moths surrounding them, strung up over the whole patio. You stared at the reflection of them in the pool before standing by it to let everyone space themselves out. Now all you had to do was wait.
1 minute went past and everyone was conversing again, still waiting for the host to greet them.
2 minutes went past, still chatter.
3 minutes went past, thud. Wait—thud?
You turn your head and almost let out a blood curdling scream, but someone already beat you to it. One of the guests had hit their head on the hardened surface surrounding the pool, blood seeping out from underneath him.
Surely it was just an accident..right?

y/ndevils00 heyo! welcome back to my postgame boyfriend show! tonight the njdevils played against the spawns of satan (not trevor)! or.. i mean.. the new york rangers.
we start tonight’s recap off with a very cute picture i got of my boyfriend and his best friend (again; not trevor) talking about how much they love me during warmups!
we also have da sun showing me that the tooth fairy came to visit him awhile ago! i bet he got lots of money for his toofer, however i wouldn’t know because he’s stopped letting me steal his wallet.
our first goal of the night was a tip in by mr. haula at ya! followed up in the same period by a goal from timo time! notice how he made the post this time? that’s because unlike most of these idiots (i’m looking at you, marino 👀), timo takes me seriously!
however, immediately after timo’s goal, haulaback girl was placed in the sin bin for tripping. i was very disappointed and he got a very strict talking to during first intermission and assured me he wouldn’t get another penalty. he lied.
he got a penalty in second period for the exact same reason that he did in the first. i cannot promise i was as nice to him in the second intermission.
we got a few scrums in this game, but my personal favorite one was in third period and ended much too quickly for my liking. BOO, REFS!
and finally, we have some pictures of my gorgeous, talented, sometimes annoying babygirl… my boyfriend!
tagged jackhughes, dawson1417, ehaula, tmeier96, ryangraves27 and vitacz15

y/ndevils00 you wouldn’t!
nicohischier i probably wouldn’t even need to steal her. i bet jack would just give her to me.
y/ndevils00 @/jackhughes TELL HIM HE’S WRONG!
jackhughes …. no comment
y/ndevils00 @/jackhughes you’re sleeping on the couch
jackhughes @/y/ndevils00 that only hurts you babe. every time you say that, you end up dragging me in to the bed at like 2am because you can’t fall asleep without me
y/ndevils00 @/jackhughes you can’t cook broccoli.

with the festive season in full swing, it was common place for friendly gatherings to be held and meals to be shared. so, when you were invited to dine out with kaveh and his friends, you accepted. you’d met kaveh in lambad’s tavern, thankfully when he was still sober. you quickly became friends and often met back at your meeting place for food and drinks. this would be the first time dining and even meeting his friend group, and knowing the roles they play in sumeru, to say you were scared was an understatement. at the same time, becoming part of this friend group would be a great opportunity for you. not only would you gain more friends but you should gain a small amount of fame for associating with them so casually. it seemed like a win-win.
with a strange mix of excitement and nervousness swirling in your stomach, you made your way to the venue. you were meeting the other men at pardis dhyai, a lovely location for such a meal. not used to being this far from the city, you arrived a few minutes late. not great, but you hoped they’d forgive you. heading towards the gazebo, you could make out an argument between kaveh and who you knew to be alhaitham. so much for a friendly dinner. without already knowing the dynamics of their friendship, you considered leaving. before you could turn to leave, a jaded looking man with ears and a tail spotted you. there was no way out of it now, so you approached the group not far from you.
“ah, hello. you must be kaveh’s guest. i’m tighnari,” he spoke, offering his hand for you to shake. you do so, but before you could introduce yourself, kaveh noticed you.
“there you are! what took you so long?” he interrupted, bringing the attention of the other two men to you.
“sorry kaveh…” you uttered, though you couldn’t give your reasonings before he took your arm and brought you to the table. with no room to ask questions, you were now sat at a round karmaphala wood table. beside you sat kaveh to your right, and tighnari to your left. next to tighnari sat alhaitham, and next to him sat a man you would learn was cyno. the food was already on the table, its aroma enticing. before you all began to eat, you finally introduced yourself. a quick chorus of acknowledgment lead to small introductions from the others at the table.
“i’m tighnari, chief officer of the forest rangers.”
“i’m alhaitham. akademiya’s scribe.”
“i’m cyno, professional tcg player.”
a beat of silence.
“you already know me, i’m kaveh, light of kshahrewar.”
“if they already knew you, why introduce yourself again? hm, senior?”
“you-!”
“alright,” cyno interrupted, holding a small roll in his hand, “i don’t know about you, but i’m bready to eat.” you could practically hear tighnari’s eyes rolling, but you found yourself quietly laughing at the pun. as shocking as that was for the rest of them, it was welcomed. everyone tucked into their meals and fell into casual conversation. regardless, you could feel eyes on you.
time seemed to slip away, and soon enough the setting sun shone, illuminating the five of you with a soft gold light as a farewell. both meals and conversations had reached their endings, but before everyone could leave, cyno had a parting gift for the group. well, joke.
“before we all leave, let’s taco ‘bout how berry good this was. i carrot believe it. lettuce celebrate today! alright that’s enough…” despite the groans and complaints from the other three, you found yourself laughing. there it was again- eyes on you. now that the others had left, you decided it was best to settle things then and there.
“why do you keep staring at me?” cyno’s expression showed he was scared that you’d caught on, but that soon turned to a look of anxiousness.
“it’s just… why were you laughing at me?”
“laughing…? your jokes were funny.”
“oh. well. that’s…” averting his gaze, he trails off, not at all prepared for your honesty. after a moment, he looks back to you,
“that’s berry good news then.”

tiny pumpkins (2125 words) by Winchesterek Rating: General Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski Characters: Derek Hale, Stiles Stilinski, Original Hale Character(s) Additional Tags: Everyone Is Alive, Farmer Stiles Stilinski, Park Ranger Derek Hale, Autumn, Pumpkins, pumpkin patch, Fluff, Meet-Cute, First Meetings, Kid Fic, Slice of Life, Uncle Derek Hale Written for: @sterekfests pumpkin patch, @sterekweekly wonder, and @warmandfluffybingocards visit to a pumpkin patch.
Stiles moved another pumpkin from the cart and into the stack of pumpkins in front of a sign that read Stilinski Pumpkin Patch.
But it really wasn't a Stilinski thing. It was something that his mom’s family always did and they started as a family when he was old enough to walk. Stiles had a few memories from that time, especially since he was so young, but as he always enjoyed looking at their family photos of him sitting amongst the pumpkins during the Fall season.
What he really enjoyed was the chilly air, the bright, warm colors and the warmth that the season brought to everyone’s lives. People were happy and bundled up, always visiting their seasonal pumpkin patch with friends or family.
And the kids, there were always tons of kids with someone or another, ecstatic about the pumpkins. People purchased pumpkins for decorations, to carve, to bake and whatever else they fancied.
Stiles just loved it all. And someday he hoped he’d be able to bring someone to the patch with him too. Maybe even he’d have a kid of his own, or he’d be an Uncle. Well, at least an Uncle to his friend's kids since he had no siblings.
Once he placed the last pumpkin into the pile, Stiles moved the cart to the side and cleaned his hands. He checked a few people out via the app on his phone for their pumpkin selections and a few treats that his best friends sold at a booth on their farm during their fall fest season.
Stiles then busied himself helping a few others take several pumpkins to their cars before he sat down on a stack of hay bales. That’s when he saw him.
The hottest guy that Stiles had ever laid eyes on was trailing behind two adorable kids who were practically frolicking through the patch. They were excited and giddy and Stiles heard their glee and wonder as they looked at all the different sizes and colors of pumpkins. Some huge, some tiny, and others that were perhaps the right size for their little hands.
The dude looked happy as he watched the two kids, who looked strikingly similar to him. They were either his kids or related to him in some way. Either way, the family genetics were strong. Stiles didn't see anyone else with him as he scanned the crowd, wondering if the children’s mother was somewhere close.
There was no way that a guy like that was single.
When no one else joined them, Stiles wiped his hands on his jeans and stood, heading over toward them awkwardly.
“Anything I can help you with?” Stiles asked, his eyes bouncing from the kids touching all the pumpkins and back to the guy who was staring at him when his gaze returned to him.
And god, his eyes were a gorgeous kaleidoscope of colors that Stiles couldn't describe.
“I’m sorry—” Stiles knew that he was saying something, probably talking about the pumpkins for the kids, but Stiles had been too lost in his eyes to actually hear what he was saying.
The guy laughed softly. “It’s okay…we’re actually looking for a few pumpkins to take home. In a variety of sizes. My family usually has a carving competition and we bake all the seeds.”
Right. Pumpkins. Stiles nodded and replied, “Oh, yeah. Yeah. Sure! I can get some together for you if you want.”
“Great.” The guy gave Stiles a warm smile just as one of the kids came over and hugged the guy’s leg and he wrapped an arm around them. “This is Avery and this is,” he paused, hugging the other kid. “Jack.”
“Well, it’s nice to meet you Avery and Jack.” Stiles smiled, squatting down to their level. “I’m Stiles.”
“What’s a Stiles?” Avery asked, looking up with a frown.
“That’s not nice!” Jack replied and glared at Avery. “He’s a Stiles!”
Stiles laughed and so did hot-guy-with-kids.
“And I’m a Derek. Now that we all know each other’s names,” Derek added, smoothing his hands over the kids’ heads. “How about you two go pick out some pumpkins while Stiles helps me get the rest into the car?”
Avery and Jack nodded and ran off into the pumpkin patch, scrutinizing all the pumpkins they came across, which made Stiles laugh again.
“So, pumpkins,” Stiles started. “Cute kids.”
“Yeah, they’re a handful. Thankfully I get to return them to my sister at the end of the day, or they might give me gray hair.” Derek shrugged, watching after the kids before his gaze returned to Stiles.
So then, they weren't his kids. They were his sisters' kids. Which meant that he might actually be single. Stiles glanced at Derek’s fingers and didn't see a ring there, either. So maybe it was his lucky day. But he still didn't know if Derek liked guys. He could have a girlfriend and just not be married.
Stiles really hoped that wasn't the case.
Derek pushed his hands into his pockets, his eyes trailing up and down Stiles, which made Stiles’ heart flutter. “So, Stiles?”
“It’s a family nickname. Sorry. I, uh—yeah I got distracted a little bit.” Stiles could feel his skin turn blotchy as he flushed, walking along with Derek through the pumpkins.
“By?” Derek seemed curious, like he was ready to listen to whatever Stiles had to say.
It was the first time anyone had really paid Stiles that kind of attention, so he took a chance and replied, “Your eyes are really pretty…”
Derek’s smile was warm and inviting, making something in Stiles’ chest flutter.
“I get that sometimes.” Derek stopped next to Stiles, looking around for presumably the kids before his attention returned. “So you work here?”
“Also a family thing,” Stiles offered. “The farm has been in my mom’s family for a long time so we kinda took over the seasonal side of things. I really like the pumpkins, especially watching them grow.”
“So you’re a pumpkin farmer. That’s…interesting.” Derek chuckled and Stiles picked up a medium-sized pumpkin.
“Maybe a part-time pumpkin farmer. I’m actually taking a break from school. I was going to go into local law enforcement, but I’ve always really wanted to be a detective or to work for the FBI.” Stiles handed Derek the pumpkin, his breath catching as his fingers brushed Derek’s when Derek took it from him.
“Really? FBI?” Derek asked, looking at the pumpkin and sounding surprised. “I guess it’s always hard to tell what kind of work people get into.”
“What do you do?” Stiles asked, turning his focus to the pumpkins, picking out various sizes and putting them into a pile. He could feel Derek’s eyes on him and he wondered if Derek liked what he saw or if he was just as confused as everyone else was about him.
“Well, my mom is a lawyer and my dad is a professor…and I think they always wanted me to go into one of those areas.” Derek smirked and shrugged, still holding the pumpkin Stiles had given him.
“But you sound like you don't want to do that…” Stiles straightened and took the pumpkin from Derek, setting it aside in the pile. “How many do you want?”
“About ten…or fifteen. Just in case the kids mess one up and want to start over,” Derek replied, not missing a beat. “And I wanted to do something else. I ended up being a park ranger.” When Stiles frowned at him, Derek continued, “I studied biology and wildlife science in college.”
“Oh. Wow. Color me surprised. I just never saw park ranger as a profession for you.” Stiles’ tone was teasing, but he meant every word. He could totally see Derek as a lawyer though, or a professor. At least from what little he knew about him. Especially because he looked so cozy in that sweater and scarf he was rocking with the Autumn weather making Stiles’ skin prickle.
Avery and Jack took that moment to run back over to them, squealing and holding up tiny miniature pumpkins and thrusting them at Derek. “Look what we found! Baby pumpkins!”
Derek laughed and took one and then the other, looking them over and handing them back. “Go get a few more of those and we’ll add them to the pile.”
Jack and Avery ran off to gather more pumpkins and Stiles laughed, watching after them. “Those tiny pumpkins always do really well with the kids. But they usually paint them instead of carve them.”
“Then maybe we’ll have a painting party too… I’m sure whatever we’ll do, they’ll love it. It’s more about the family thing than the pumpkins…” Derek moved to pick up a pumpkin and handed it to Stiles, his heart skipping another beat as he took it from Derek.
“What do you think about these? We can always add whatever the kids pick out once we get them into your vehicle.” And Stiles could already see the kids gathering many tiny pumpkins.
“Those look great,” Derek replied and when he turned back to Stiles, he added, “I always wanted to get into conservation for endangered species. I guess it’s one way I can get closer to my goals for that.”
Derek shrugged. “We also do community outreach and lessons for kids, so I get to travel to schools and teach them about different animals we have in our state parks.”
Stiles found that more attractive than he probably should. Not only was Derek smart, he cared. He had interests beyond just himself or working out like most dudes he knew. Derek was obviously older, but Stiles didn't think he was too much older.
“Do you want to go out sometime?” Stiles blurted and then stared like a deer in headlights. Oh, god. “I—uh, I’m sorry—I—“
Derek was staring at him like he was intrigued and confused. Before Stiles could say anything else, Derek answered, “I’d love to.”
“Oh.” Stiles couldn’t stop himself from staring. Derek saying yes was the last thing he thought he’d get as an answer. “Wow. Okay, yeah—that would be great.”
“How about I pick you up tomorrow at seven and you choose the place. That way we’re both surprised,” Derek added with a grin, taking his phone out of his pocket and handing it to Stiles. “If you put your number in my phone I’ll text you so you can have mine.”
Stiles almost fumbled Derek’s phone like the worst kinda football pass there ever was, but he managed not to drop it with a sigh of relief. He punched his number in and saved his name as a contact, then handed Derek’s phone back.
“I await your text with bated breath,” Stiles teased with a smile that was more shy than he felt.
“Well, let’s not keep you waiting, then,” Derek replied with a chuckle and texted Stiles. He felt his phone buzz in his pocket and it sent a rush of excitement through him.
The kids returned then with several more tiny pumpkins, “Look, Uncle Derek!”
They had Derek’s attention again as Stiles loaded up the pumpkins he’d picked out into a cart, along with the tiny pumpkins the kids put into it. Before long they were headed toward Derek’s vehicle, which was a sleek black Camaro that had Stiles warm in all the right places.
He couldn't believe that Derek was about to put all these pumpkins into his trunk. Nevertheless, they loaded them in and then Derek helped the kids into the back seat. It didn't look comfortable at all from what Stiles could see, but the kids didn't seem to care as they buckled themselves in.
“So, what’s the damage?” Derek asked, turning back to Stiles.
Stiles pulled out his phone and card reader. “Well, you’re set back $115 for the pumpkins.”
Derek handed Stiles his card, still smiling. “I’m sure they’ll love them. So it’s worth it.”
Stiles charged Derek’s card and sent him a digital receipt before handing it back to him. “I guess I'll see you tomorrow?”
“At seven.” Derek agreed, nodding. “I’ll make sure to wear something nice since you’re picking the place and it’s going to be a surprise.”
Stiles flushed and his mind went straight into the gutter with no needed help. “Seven it is.”
Derek flashed him one of those smiles again that had Stiles’ knees wanting to buckle as Derek’s eyes crinkled at the corners. Derek waved at Stiles almost shyly before slipping into the Camaro and closing the door.
The car was gone before Stiles shook himself from his shock. He was going on a date with a hot dude tomorrow.
What the hell was he going to wear?
Fuck.

After the celebration had finally ended, Halt decided he’d had enough of formalities and appearances. A grand homecoming to Araluen was not what he’d wanted. Now that he had Will back, all that was left to do was to return to the little cabin in Redmont and sleep for a week straight. If it weren’t for the assembly the King called for, he’d be able to do just that.
Someone knocked on the door. He gave a final tug on the straps of his pack before heading over, heaving in a silent sigh. But when the door swung open, he was met with an unexpected face.
Well, not entirely unexpected. It was bound to happen sooner or later. He’d rather it would have been later, but alas, Fate seemed to be enjoying her time with him.
“Crowley.” He stepped aside, allowing the Ranger Commandant in the room. “I thought you’d have left by now.”
“Really?” The sandy-haired man turned to look at him. “Eleven months, and that’s the first thing you have to say.”
“Eleven and one week,” he said quietly. “And I seem to recall giving you a full report earlier. So no, that is not the first thing I have said to you.”
Crowley ran a hand through his hair. “And one week.” A breathy chuckled escaped the other man. “Do you think I haven’t been counting each day?”
He raised an eyebrow. “A Ranger Commandant has more important things to do than wait for the prodigal son to return.”
“I’m sorry.” The older Ranger reached a hand towards his arm and then faltered, those light eyes desperately seeking his. “If I could go back in time, I would change everything. I would have broken you out of prison. I would have covered it all up. No one would have ever known.”
“Having everyone know was a part of the plan.”
“But why, Halt?” His voice broke. “Why would you put us through that?”
Halt raised his eyes to the ceiling. After all this time, his friend still had the nerve to ask the same question. “I don’t give you as much credit as I should. You’re not stupid, Crowley. You know the answer.”
It was the boy. Will. He would have burned the world for his apprentice if necessity demanded it of him. He had given up his life for some cheeky, over-talkative child that had somehow become an integral part of his life. Losing Will had been like losing an arm. He could have said all this and more, but he wasn’t sure if the other Ranger would ever truly understand.
“Crowley.” He laid a land on his friend’s shoulder. “You have your loyalties and I have mine. Surely you didn’t think I’d change over the years?”
“No. I never would have expected that.” The older Ranger turned away. “You always were a stubborn one.”
“And I don’t intend on changing that. I became a Ranger to help you. Not to pledge my full allegiance to a King.”
“That’s exactly what being a Ranger is.” The silver Oakleaf felt heavy around his neck. Halt knew what the Oakleaf meant. Running away from Clonmel, he was given a second chance, and that chance had been Araluen and its Rangers. He liked Duncan a great deal more than he cared to admit—certainly the Araluan was a far better King than either him or Ferris. But against all odds, that’s just what Duncan was.
A King.
“I just wanted to make sure you were okay,” Crowley said quietly. “But it seems to me you’re doing fine in that sense.”
Halt let go of the man’s shoulder. “You thought too highly of me. That’s your mistake.”
“I think just enough of you.” The redhead sighed. “My only mistake was turning you away. I’m sorry, Halt.”
He met his friend’s eyes, and saw the pain inside them, pain he was responsible for. “I am, too.”

Sea Salt Like Glitter: Part Three
Summary: You’re a forest ranger. Trees and mammals are your specialty. Mermaids in the ocean? Way outside your area of expertise. Good News: They like you. Bad News: They like you a lot
Mer! Sun x Plus Sized! Reader x Mer! Moon
Part One , Part Two , Part Three (Here!), Part Four (Coming Soon)
Hi everyone! Sorry this took a second, I decided to split the last part into two parts so have a (slightly shorter) part three. Things are heating up here, plot and otherwise. I hope that you enjoy!
Warnings: Different Species, Kissing (Mer), Grinding, Slightly Suggestive Use of Tentacles, Cross Species Interactions, Mild Flirting, Cross Species Courtship, Bodily Harm (Reader), Head Injury
Three months have gone by since the potential poacher boat incident and you’ve relaxed again. No one has come to try and steal your boys and they’re happy as clams. They’ve been very insistent about spending time with you and even if you don’t really get it, it’s nice to be wanted. Tonight is going to be another meet up and you’re going to be brave. You’re going to bring your swimsuit.
Moon has not so subtly been trying to get you to swim with them. Every time you’ve denied him, partly because he’s too mischievous and partly because you’re afraid you’ll embarrass yourself. The mers are already going to swim better than you, there’s no reason to prove it. Unfortunately, they’ve discovered your weakness in the months you’ve gotten to know them; puppy dog eyes. Sun had begged you to come into the water and you couldn’t resist, not for long. You agree to head down to the beach a little before the sun begins to set so you can spend time with Sun before he gets to be sleepy.
You ignore how odd it feels to go to the beach in something other than your uniform, enjoying the feeling of warm sand between your toes. Sun isn’t on the beach yet and you set your things up, placing a towel and your bag down. Better to bring snacks and water and not need it then be craving something later.
“Friend!” Sun’s excited call has you turning and you wave, giving him a smile. He’s halfway out of the water when he freezes, smile disappearing from his face. You frown back, making your way over to him.
“Hey Sun, everything alright?” The call of his name seems to snap the mer out of it, Sun giving a low rumble and leaning towards you. He rubs your cheeks together cutely, eyes half lidded. A part of your brain tries to tell you what it means but the thought doesn’t last as Sun begins to happily talk.
“Excited to swim today! What wearing?” His claws come up to gently pull at your shoulder strap at the question and you wave him off, making sure to fix the twist.
“It’s a bathing suit, it helps me in the water.” He doesn’t believe your words at all but takes his time looking you over. You shift a little and offer an explanation, even though you don’t need to justify yourself to him. “Usually I wear a t-shirt but I thought it might drag me down and that’s where the one piece came from.” You silently added that since no one was there you wanted to try out this new one; its cute but not something that you would wear out. Sun gave a coo, nuzzling you again and sliding back towards the water.
“Cute!” He chirped, grinning wider when you look a little embarrassed. “Swim with me!” You laughed, shaking your head and moving towards the water.
“Yeah yeah I’m coming.” You were thankful you had put skin protection on before Sun got here. There’s no way the mer would be patient enough to wait. Sun let out a few excited chirps before sinking all the way in, doing flips and jumps as you waded in.
The water was cold and you winced, wishing that you had brought a wet suit for a moment. Too late to back out now though. You took a deep breath and dove under the water, beginning to kick out towards Sun. He wasn’t far off shore but it was deep enough you couldn’t touch the bottom. Not that Sun was going to let you float alone, oh no.
The moment Sun could wrap his tail around you he did, pulling you close to his chest. You gasped, half in surprise and half because he was warm. It wasn’t something you noticed on the beach but here in the water there was a very noticeable temperature difference. You happily wrapped your arms around his neck, letting him tow you through the water.
The two of you played games as the sun began to set and you barely noticed. Sun would throw you into the air and then race to catch you, you would take off and try to swim as far as you could. Sun wanted you to dive and you went back to shore to grab goggles, the mer showing you things underwater. There was a beautiful coral formation nestled in the rock formations and even though you weren’t too confident, you let Sun swim you out there.
You were in the middle of watching a crab try to catch a small fish when everything scattered. Your heart began to pound as a dark shadow fell over you and you hoped it was Moon. Without turning to look you shot towards the surface, dark laughter following you. Your head breached the surface right as a tenacle wrapped around your foot and you were able to take a deep breathe before Moon pulled you back under.
He easily flipped you to see him and you scowled, shaking your fist at him. He snickered, wrapping another tentacle around your other leg. It was the first time you had seen his complete form and it was as impressive as it was intimidating. Moon was just as long as Sun but his torso was shorter, more of his upper half being tentacles. Each one was as thick as your arm at the ends and tree trunk sized at his waist. His lights were also flashing faster tonight and you hoped he was ok.
Moon dragged you through the water, hands on your arms and tentacles wrapped everywhere else. You didn’t flinch away, even as you moved a couple to better spots. It didn’t take long for you to need air and you gestured towards the surface. The squid gave an exaggerated pout, leading the two of you in a lazy loop-da-loop before heading up           .
It took you a moment to regain the ability to talk, mostly because your lungs had been burning more than you thought. Sun popped up next to you, tugging you towards him. Moon didn’t let you go completely, wrapping a tenacle around Sun and turning things into a cuddle party. You happily soaked up Sun’s warmth, shuddered as you realized it was much colder than before.
“Bad swimmer.” Moon taunted, tentacles squeezing your legs. You huffed, kicking at him a little. He gave you another squeeze and pressed closer, cold water dripping onto your shoulder.
“Trust me, I could be a lot worse. There are some people who don’t know how to swim.” Both mers made faces at your admission and you laughed. “Humans only really have to know how to walk ya know.”
“Swimming better.” Moon replied easily, as if that logic meant he won the mock argument. You rolled your eyes and Sun laughed quietly, his eyes starting to drop. It didn’t take long for either mer to fall asleep or wake up, depending on the time of day. The lack of sun made Sun sluggish but it didn’t seem to bother him as much as sunlight bothered Moon.
“You can go get some sleep Sun.” You gently reached out to rub his cheek. The mer purred like a cat and leaned into your touch, eyes closing all the way. It took him a second before he sat up and shook his head, one hand coming up to smack his face.
“No no, not yet! Something important to talk about!” You raised an eyebrow, looking between the two of them. Moon was deliberately avoiding eye contact and Sun was struggling to stay awake. Anxiety curled in your gut but you ignored it, giving them a nod.
“Ok, what did you want to talk about?” Neither knew exactly what to say, Sun staring at Moon and Moon refusing to look over. Sun made a frustrated sound, tail coming up to hit his mate. Moon hissed, flashing teeth in no real threat. “Is it a bad thing?”
“Not a bad thing.” Sun immediately reassured you, shaking his head. You weren’t convinced and Sun could tell, pinching your cheek gently.
“Delicate.” Moon rumbled from behind you and you turned to him, Sun nodding out of the corner of your eye.
“Yes yes, delicate!” Now you were getting even more nervous. You took a deep breath, figuring if you had to rip the band aid off, might as well do it quickly.
“Do the two of you have to leave?” Both of them seemed startled at your question, eyes  wide. They started to coo and click, pulling you even closer. It was a little hard to breathe but you didn’t fight it, waiting for them to switch back so you could understand them.
“No no no!” Sun was the first to realize they had switched to mer, hands stroking your head almost feverishly. He always did love touching your head and hair; it took a while to get used to. “We not going anywhere.”
“Want you to stay.” Moon spoke at almost the exact same time, his face buried in your shoulder. His breath was warm, even if his skin wasn’t and you shuddered at the duel sensations. Both noticed and began to hum, your skin suddenly feeling hyper sensitive.
“I-I want to you to stay too.” You cleared your throat and ignored the sudden flash of heat going through you. Keep it together damn it. Your friends didn’t need to know you were feeling that way about them. You barely even acknowledged you were feeling that way. At least out loud. And out of bed.
Moon made a displeased rumble, nibbling gently on your skin. Your heart was starting to pound and you were getting dizzy. Something was going on and you didn’t understand. Sun cooed and you met his eyes, realizing that they were blue instead of white. He smiled when you focused on him, leaning close to rub your noses together.
“Pretty pretty. Be with us?” Sun phrased it as a question but you were still missing too much context.
“What do you-?” Your question was cut off by your loud moan, the mers freezing in the water around you. Sun had moved his tail between your legs and the warmth rubbing just right had you responding. Moon let out a sound suspiciously like a groan and you whimpered as his teeth sank into you shoulder. It hurt but he didn’t bite hard enough to draw blood. Sun gave an answering groan and rubbed his tail against you again.
“Ok time out!” You were proud that your voice was strong, hands coming up to form an ‘X’ across your chest. “Waaaait a minute!” The mers paused what they were doing, two sets of bright eyes on you. You cleared your throat and began to disentangle yourself from them, ignoring the pouting and slight whines.
“We need to talk about this.” You put on your best scolding voice and it seemed the work, the mers coming back to themselves. Sun’s eyes changed back to white and Moon retracted most of his tentacles. One still helped you float and it stayed respectfully above the belt.
“Mad?” Sun sounded nervous, hands fidgeting anxiously in front of him. You sighed and gave a smile, shaking your head. The good news was that the cold water was helping you keep a clear head.
“No Sun I’m not mad. I just, we were getting a little carried away and I want to make sure we’re all ok with… whatever this is.” Sun relaxed at your words, looking relieved. Moon grumbled but nodded, letting you collect your thoughts. You took a deep breathe, ignoring how embarrassed you felt. “This… is a thing right?”
“Want it to be.” Sun confirmed, swimming small circles in the water. You could tell that he was anxious but you needed to understand what was happening.
“Mate.” Moon was always the blunt one of the pair, gesturing to himself and then Sun. Sun gave a nod and you nodded as well. They had explained it once an though it took a bit, you understood they were a bonded pair. “Mate too.” Moon began to trace out a triangle, you being one of the corners.
“Me?” Your voice was higher than you anticipated and Moon snickered a little.
“Yes!” Sun was quick to reassure you, swimming over. He reached for you and waiting until you nodded before grabbing your arms. He helped you float as you tried to process.
“How does that even-?” You cut off your own thought, not finishing it out loud. Moon gave a rumble and you watched as his lights began to flicker faster.
“Compatible.” He reassured you and even if you didn’t get it, you get enough. You want to deny that it’s not possible, that you don’t know what they’re talking about but you can’t. You’ve noticed the linger touches and look, the way they like to circle you. You had ignored it and said that it was all you, not them. And now you’re trying to think through it.
“When did you decide this?” You’re not trying to distract them but you do want to know. Sun laughs, rubbing your cheeks together quickly.
“Defended our territory, saved Moon. Lots and lots of things.” He sounds love struck and you can’t help but laugh a little. Moon moves closer, wrapping tentacles around both of you but nothing too much this time.
“Want to be with you. Defended us, we defend you.” His words are rougher than Sun’s but have the same emotion and you nod back.
“I want that too.” Both of them perk up, fins flaring out and you keep going. “But not tonight.” Sun whines loudly and Moon huffs, tentacles slapping the water a bit. “Behave you two. I’m not ready yet and I’m too cold but we can do this next time, I promise.”
They perk up at the mention of ‘next time’ and after sharing a few clicks they agree. Sun sinks under the waves and you float with Moon a little bit before he drops you off at shore. He nuzzles your cheek like Sun and you nuzzle back; only now do you realize that it must be like kissing for them. His eyes watch as you walk back to your cabin, ruby staring for longer than necessary before sinking under the waves.
You feel like you’re floating when you get to the cabin. You walk in easily and drop your bags by the door. Future you can take care of that. The entire day feels like a dream; you never would have guessed this is what your swim would bring. Getting ready for bed is automatic and later you’ll curse yourself for not feeling something off earlier.
You brush your teeth and then decide that you want another glass of water. Walking into the kitchen, everything is dark and quiet. It’s only when you grab a glass off the counter that you pause. Your curtains are closed. Your curtains are never closed, not in the living room.
Pain explodes on the back of your head and you slam into the counter, air leaving your lungs. You gasp, the glass in one hand and the other scrambling against the sink. You half turn, trying to throw the glass behind you and you take another blow to the head. You don’t have enough time to question that’s going on, consciousness leaving you faster than you can count.

Dangerous
mat barzal x model!fem!reader
a visceral in doses fic… read hook, line, and sinker before this part
warnings: mentions of an injury, small very minor angst, small mention of food
Tumblr media
*At the pizza place*
“I know I already said that you’re a natural when it comes to modeling, but I just can’t get over how seamless you are when it comes to all the different poses. You must be really flexible,” mat comments.
“It’s funny you say that. I actually used to do ballet. I started at a really young age- maybe 3 and it was the love of my life at the time, of course. I actually got injured at 15 and I was never able to get back to normal,” you say solemnly.
“So you went into modeling? That explains why you weren’t a child model or something like that.”
You nod your head in agreement, “yeah. It’s crazy because everyone in my family, even friends, would always say that I belonged in the modeling industry. I guess that was true. I wouldn’t change things. I love modeling. It’s probably the best thing to happen to me,” you finish your small story.
“I’m sorry about your injury, but I’m glad you’re in your rightful place,” mats speaks.
“It’s ok. It’s weird, though. You’re the first person who noticed my flexibility. No one I have ever met or worked with has ever noticed.”
“I’m glad I noticed because if I hadn’t, I would never know that little story about yourself,” mat is so sincere with his words, it makes your heart melt. Also making you grow a new appreciation for this handsome man that just came out of nowhere.
“What about you? You’re probably flexible too,” you guess.
“Not really,” he chuckles.
“I don’t think I can do a split or an even a high kick,” he continues.
“I don’t think that’s true. The way hockey players move during the game means you definitely have to have some kind of flexibility even if it’s a little,” you add in.
“You watch hockey?”
And you were caught.
It’s not like you didn’t want it to be a secret that you watch hockey, you just didn’t want mat to think that you were lying about knowing who he was when you met him for the first time.
You truly didn’t know anything about him, but you knew that he looked familiar. When he told you that he played hockey, the puzzle pieces weren’t hard to put together- especially because you had just been at an islanders game the past week.
“Occasionally. I’m more of a baseball person, but i watch hockey every now and then, live or on tv,” you inform him.
“Another interesting fact about you. What team do you root for?”
“If this is your way of asking if I’m a rangers fan, you’re not slick,” you tease with a wicked smirk.
“Well, I’m not a rangers fan. I actually quite enjoy the islanders,” you finish.
“Hmm… I like that answer.”
“Ok, hotshot. Don’t let it go to your head.”
“Too late.”
You both laugh at the same time before trying to calm down and breathe in some air.
It was crazy how easily you could laugh with him.
There’s a pause in conversation as you both take drinks from your cups and bites from your pizzas.
It’s a comfortable stillness, you’re taking in the nice evening you’re having with mat and secretly hoping you can do it more in the future.
“I actually have to tell you something,” you say slowly, trying not to worry him, but also being worried yourself.
He nods his head for you to continue.
“When you had told me that you played hockey, I kind of figured out who you were. When I met you, you were so familiar to me and the hockey thing made everything click. I did know you. Well, of you. I recognized you from the game. I hope that doesn’t freak you out or anything,” you blurt.
“It doesn’t freak me out nor does it bother me. As long as you don’t look me up or anything crazy,” mat responds.
Huh. Why didn’t he want you to look him up?
“Yeah , of course!”
“I am so full. Did you want to get desert?” Mat asks.
“I will have to take a pass on desert. I’ll probably just eat some fruit at home,” you answer.
“Sounds good! Well as much as I enjoyed shadowing you for the day, and trying your recommendation for pizza, I have an early morning tomorrow so I should get home.”
“Oh yeah! I don’t want to keep you too long or ruin your schedule,” you tell him.
“Do you live far from here?”
“Not really just a couple of minutes from here actually.”
“Mind if I walk you home?”
You heart melts just a little bit. He is so sweet, you think to yourself.
“As long as you don’t leak my address,” you tease.
“No promises,” he teases back.
As you’re walking back home, it’s silent but it’s only because you’re thinking about how good this day has been and how you hope it was just as good for mat.
“I guess your job isn’t exactly private either,” you speak your one nagging thought out loud.
“Not really. Which is why I wasn’t necessarily surprised when you said you had recognized me. Although, I’m sure my life is a bit more private than yours,” you’re now wondering if he thinks you had lied about knowing him when you first met. You hope that isn’t the case.
“Kind of. Especially when I’m pictured out with other famous people. I did a shoot last year with Bella Hadid and that sort of skyrocketed my career in the right direction, so now I’m always having the paps follow me, but only when they think I’m doing something secretive or interesting,” you explain.
“That’s crazy. I’m only recognized on the streets every once in a while.”
“You’re still recognized, though.”
“True. It’s honestly weird to be known,” mat said.
You nod your head in silent solidarity.
The conversation fades after mat’s last sentence, but the silence is comforting. It allows you to soak in mat’s charming and intense presence. You almost don’t realize that you had just made it to your home.
“Looks like this is me,” you interrupt the silence.
“I’m not sure I’m ready to leave you just yet,” mat responds.
“Dito. Today was really nice.”
You both are facing each other, not daring to break the strong eye contact. He brings his finger to drag it along the length of your forearm before stopping at your wrist. Your heart is pounding. You’re afraid it might jump out of your body in attempt to land in his large, warm hands.
“I enjoyed today. Best day I’ve had in a while. This may be a bit forward, but will you go out on a date with me, y/n?” Mat pulls you a tad bit closer to him.
“Hmm… you’d be pretty lucky to get to spend another day with me.” You lightly poke at his chest.
He laughs and walks backwards down the steps of your building. He has the cockiest expression adorning his face and glint in his eyes.
“I’ll see you next tuesday at 6:30,” mat exclaims.
“You’re pretty confident, hotshot,” you fire back, a bit of shock and amusement displayed on your face.
“Got to match confidence with even more confidence,” he says referencing your undying confidence.
“HA! I’ll see you at 6:30. Don’t be late, barzy!”
“You’re a dangerous one, y/n,” mat finishes with one last smile as he watches you go inside, patting himself on the back for successfully getting a date with you.
a/n: it’s been a little bit since i posted the last piece but hope you enjoy this part!!

OH MY GOD?!?!?!?
that issue. just. holy sht. that issue. that was crazy
DUSTFEATHER IS CANONLY DEAD?!?! BUT WHERE’S RAINHAZE?? I feel like he’d probably be nearby if he was dead too, but he ain’t.. what killed her?! or who, technically? maybe it was the ranger+hacksaw duo, as they said “the corpse is still rotting” GRRR THIS IS SO GOOD
also DEEPDARK REVEAL?! FOR THE FIRST TIME?!?! TECHNICALLY?!?! OH MY GOD HE’S HERE HE’S HERE IM GOING TO SCREAM INTO THE VOID HE’S HERE AND HIS BADDIES R HERE!!!!!! HE KNOWS OF BARRENCLAN!! BAD THINGS R COMING LADS
saturn :(( i immediately grew attached i’m so sad. i loved the symbolism of both of them reaching to eachother’s young kin: if saturn stayed alive, she’d be reaching at the life of the kits. if pinepaw killed her, he’d be reaching at the life of the chicks. it’s so sad but such a great depiction of the struggles of hunting that aren’t really explored in wc content, and a great way of using the way that they can communicate. also it ever so slightly shows eachother’s culture, as while friendly friendly is universal, prey sees predators as bloodthirsty beasts, which.. they have a right to, heartbreakingly enough. they kill and seek blood, but to protect themselves and others from hunger. just.. the circle of life.
i love saturn sm and i miss her already. great birdie who deserved so much more methinks. I LOVE THIS ISSUE SO MUCH IM EATING IT THANK YOU
HEHEH that is the exact reaction I was hoping to get from this issue so I'm glad. :]
Yes this is the first time Deepdark has fully appeared in the comic! The other time it's been by implication, or a shot of his side, something like that. I wanted him to have his bad bitch moment in this issue.
I'm so sorry to everyone who got attached to Saturn only for me to kill her off... my bad. That is what I was representing with the panel of them reaching toward each other, though, so I'm happy it came across. It also aligns with Saturn's line before that; "we all need to eat". The funny thing is that burrowing owls are also predators, just that they eat things like insects and small rodents. Which is why she specifically calls him a "tooth-hunter". Since this story expands outside of just cats like canon Warriors, I think it's very interesting to explore predator-prey dynamics in many different directions. Cause to coyotes, for example, a cat is a prey animal. To a cat, a burrowing owl is prey, but to a mouse, it's a predator.
And as well, despite Pinepaw and Saturn having a truce, they both know fully well that if they had access to the other's young, they'd kill them without question. Which just compounds on the sadness, because we can see that Pinepaw and Saturn get along well and in another circumstance, could be friends. Sorry that got a bit rambly, but it's a neat subject to me.

An unhealthy obsession - Tighnari
Gender neutral reader, it’s based off the thing with Donna where she’s gushing about Diluc all the time. Basically, reader is Donna and Tighnari is the reader’s equivalent to Diluc.
--
“Oh, isn’t Tighnari such a gentleman?” You gush to your friend, who was very much not into him like you were.
“Whatever you say...Just saying, he’s kind of a dick.” Your friend states. “He’s probably only being nice to you so that he doesn’t lose the forest ranger he can walk over.”
“That’s not true! He always thanks me after I complete the menial tasks he doesn’t like.” You reason.
“I’m not having this conversation again with you.” Your friend huffs out of frustration.
--
The traveler had been talking to Tighnari, Paimon nagging him for being so rude at times. Tighnari hears you gushing about how wonderful of a man he is for the millionth time, and he groans out of frustration.
“Could you do a favour for me, traveler?” Tighnari asks, the traveler looking over to see you there, unaware of the eyes on you. “Tell them to move on. Quite frankly, it’s distracting to me. They cannot take the hint when I keep sending them off on the, although harmless, tedious and long tasks I normally do.”
“Sure.” The traveler nods.
“They’re kinda like Donna, huh?” Paimon hums out in thought.
“Donna?” Tighnari asks, Paimon turning to him to start talking his ear off about Donna, and the comparisons to you while the traveler walked along to you.
--
“Hey, can we talk?” The traveler asks. “In a more private place, where nobody can eavesdrop.”
You nod, taking them along to your house and taking a seat, the traveler following your actions.
“Tighnari doesn’t like you.” The traveler states. “He, unfortunately, doesn’t have the balls to tell you like it is.”
“Tighnari? I help him out all the time, and he’s really nice to me!” You reason, the traveler giving you a sympathetic look.
“He’s normally sarcastic and sassy.” The traveler explains. “He gives you tasks in an attempt to get you to move on, but he doesn’t seem to realise this can have the opposing reaction.” They continue, taking one of your hands to keep your attention on them. “I’m sorry. I can understand why you like him, but he’s asked me to tell you to back off.”
“...” You take a few moments, processing all of the travelers words before responding. Thinking about Tighnari, he was sarcastic and sassy - he would most likely tease someone he was interested in, he wouldn’t be as sweet as he was with you. “Thank you. I think I need to figure out where I need to go with my work...Oh, I’m so embarrassed. I’m probably known to be that overly obsessive forest ranger that only thinks about him.” You sigh out, the traveler thinking to themselves.
“Well, you could stay as a forest ranger and make a point that you’re now aware of your unrequited feelings.” The traveler asks, you shaking your head.
“No, that would sting.” You respond quickly, the traveler jumping back in surprise. “Do you know anyone who would be open to hiring people like me? Not the obsessed part, the forest ranger experience type.” You elaborate, the traveler placing a hand on their chin in thought.
“Well, I could take you to the adventurers guild. I’m sure they’ll have something.” The traveler suggests.
“When do we go?” You ask.
“Let’s talk to Master Tighnari. I’ll do the talking.” The traveler reassures you, you nodding before taking your bag with you.
--
“You’re leaving the forest rangers?” Tighnari asks, a concerned tone easing in. “What’s brought this along?”
“They have informed me that they wouldn’t be able to keep working here, given the fact that everyone in Gandarva Ville knows they have...feelings that are excessive.” The traveler explains.
“But who else is going to take them, given how easily they fall for people.” Tighnari jabs, not seeing you flinch at his sudden words. “I mean, it took them one. Day. To catch feelings for me - Feelings that are strong even months later. Whoever gets them is going to have problems with them.”
“Lets’s go, _.” The traveler finishes the discussion, not caring about the potential paperwork you were supposed to fill in to confirm you have left the job. Dragging you by the hand, they feel you shaking as they walk off.

Any sneek peeks of the divorce AU 👀👀👀
I think you mean the single parents au, where Eremika are each divorced but from other people? I just want to make sure you meant mine, because @strscrossed has an actual divorce au with Eremika being divorced from each other.
But if it's single parents you want, that I can definitely do! Read on for a snippet from chapter 2 (rough draft so subject to change).
"Why am I even telling you all this?" Eren said. "I'm sorry. I just…" He shook his head.
She shot him a wry grin. “I’m used to it. I got married, had a kid, and got divorced before most of my social circle was even getting engaged. Everyone was always talking to me about this shit.” She rolled her eyes. “I don’t know why. I’m the last one anyone should get life advice from. But I guess I was the only one who had any first-hand experience.”
“Sorry,” said Eren. “I didn’t mean to do it to you again.”
"I don’t know. I kind of like it when it’s you," said Mikasa, sipping her drink, then running her fingertip around the rim of the can. "It feels like… It feels like nothing's really changed and I'm still bossing you around like I did when we were kids."
Eren turned his head just enough to look at her. She was already looking back at him, her eyes as lovely and clear as the twilight sky behind her. Her cheeks flushed when their gazes met and she cleared her throat, looking down at her seltzer, and he wondered if they were both thinking about all the time they had lost when she didn’t come back.
“I don’t know about that,” he said, choosing not to dwell on it. For tonight, they were friends again. That’s what mattered. "I don’t remember you bossing me around."
"I assure you. I did," said Mikasa. "I was always telling you what to do." A smile played across her lips. “Remember when you were going to run away to join the Power Rangers?”
Eren let his head drop back. “Oh, Jesus. Yes,” he said. “My mom loves to tell this story. You were telling me not to go while I packed, but I wouldn’t listen to you, so you chased me outside and punched me in the face to stop me. Mom heard me screaming and came outside and found me with a backpack full of fruit snacks and frozen chicken nuggets, and my nose was bleeding and you were just standing there staring at me, and as soon as you saw my mom you said, ‘Your son thinks the Power Rangers are real and he’s trying to run away and join them, Mrs. Jaeger. But I stopped him. Don’t worry.’ I was so mad at you.”
“See?” she said, cocking her head, her eyes twinkling. “Bossy.”
“But not wrong,” said Eren, holding up a finger.
"I've always wondered why your mom didn't get me in trouble with my parents for hitting you," Mikasa mused.
"Oh," said Eren. "That's because that wasn't the first time I tried to run away and she was just happy you stopped me in time so that she didn't need to call the police to find me again."
Mikasa gaped at him.
"I get what I put her through now that I have a kid," said Eren. “I live in terror that Adri’s going to be a pathological runaway like I was.”
Mikasa began to laugh. "I don't think I ever realized what a handful you were until now," she said.
Eren started laughing, too. "That's probably because I actually listened to you," he said. "My dad used to call you the Eren tamer."
"What?" said Mikasa, shaking her head. "No, he didn't."
"He did. He said I always behaved better for you. And he was right."
"I don't believe it," Mikasa scoffed.
"It's true!" said Eren.
"Really?" said Mikasa
Eren nodded, his face stretched into an exaggerated, self-effacing grimace. "'Fraid so."
Mikasa stared at him. "Why?"
"I don't know," Eren chuckled, sipping his seltzer. "I guess I just wanted to make you happy."

Game Night
This fic is part of the Critter Genfic Bingo to fulfill the Game Night and Modern AU slots, and is set in my Gamer AU. Read on AO3
Vax’ildan rarely gets to spend his own money on games these days as they are often gently covered by his subscribers, but a new game caught him unaware, so he didn’t have time to set up a donation goal or even make a poll to ascertain interest from his followers. The plan was simple: Vax was going to record his first playthrough of the game in solo mode and finally give YouTube a try. If it got a good response, then he would ask a friend or two if they wanted to play with him on stream. However, as his plans are wont to do, everything went down the drain when he mentioned buying the game on his next stream, and chat begged him to play live.
“Well, I guess that answers it,” Vax jokingly replied to everyone’s requests. “Let me talk to some friends and see if anyone is up for it. Hopefully, I’ll have a group for the next stream. How does that sound?”
Vax’s chat went wild with names and requests of other streamers he could ask to play with him, but the main name in common was very clear: Keyleth. It took him a while to cede to ask her, but he made no promises that he would be able to convince her to play the game. In the end, it was easier than he thought. All Vax had to do was tell his girlfriend that she could customize her character and show her the different options for races and classes, and she was in. The next challenge was finding two more people to play, which Keyleth also fixed by asking Percy, who in turn asked Vex’ahlia. So a party was formed, with Keyleth and Vax squad streaming so their viewers could watch both their points of vision.
“What are you guys playing,” Vax asks as he starts building his character. His is an easy choice to make, and he starts customizing a half-elf rogue to look slightly like him as his chat flies in approval and suggestions.
“I think I might try a ranger,” Vex’ahlia replies. Because she’s not streaming today, the audience will have to wait to see the reveal of her character, but on Vex’s screen is a female half-elf with a ponytail braid.
“Are you going to get a bear companion and call him Trinket, dear?” Percival teases his girlfriend. Everyone in Vax and Keyleth’s audience is familiar with Trinket, Vex’s large Newfoundland dog. At almost 70 kg, Trinket’s massive form and shaggy brown hair make him resemble a bear, which is where the joke came from one day during Vex’s first streams.
“Don’t tempt me, Percival.”
“What about you, Freddie?” Vax leans back on his chair, admiring his character.
“I’m playing a human fighter, of course.”
“Chat is asking if you’re going melee,” Vax leans in to read the questions on his screen.
“No. I’ll be ranged.”
“Keyleth, darling, what are you playing? You’re so quiet.” Vex mutters, adding piercings to her character.
“Oh? Sorry, there are so many options and hairs. It’s a lot,” Keyleth sounds and looks overwhelmed. She’s not used to playing this type of game, especially for the first time on stream.
“It’s okay, darling. Take your time.” Vex’ahlia reassures.
One of Keyleth’s biggest insecurities about streaming a game that is so out of her comfort zone was related to how her regular audience would react to the change. She usually streams cozy games that a lot of people use for body-doubling, and she loves providing everyone with a safe environment where they can go to escape from their daily lives. An adventure roleplaying game with a lot of action, dialogues, and possibly fights is not what her target audience usually looks for. However, Keyleth was pleasantly surprised—and relieved—when the poll results came in favor of her playing the game on stream. It turned out that a lot of Keyleth’s followers were avid players of tabletop roleplaying games or were generally interested in the game itself.
Although she felt better about how her audience would respond to the new game, Keyleth was still worried about stepping out of the bubble that shielded her from trolls. With a much more popular game being streamed—adding the fact that she is a woman with her camera on—Keyleth still couldn’t shake the fear that something bad could happen during the streams, which is why she recruited her best moderators, Pike and Grog, who were more than happy to stay on the sidelines and keep everyone on track.
“Okay, I think I’m done. Sorry, it took me so long,” Keyleth finally announces an hour after the stream starts. On her screen is a female half-elf druid with space buns and braids almost as red as Keyleth’s hair. She quickly reads the chat and smiles at everyone’s compliments about her character, most saying how fun her hair looks.
“No problem, love. Is everyone ready?” Vax asks. Everyone agrees, so they quickly name their characters after themselves before they move on to the next screen.
“We have to make another one?” Keyleth shouts, raising her hands to her head. On everyone’s screen is another character whose race and appearance can also be customized.
“What the fuck is a guardian,” Vex’ahlia asks, going over the different races available.
“I think it’s someone who will protect you and keep you alive,” Vax explains, quickly building a generic male elf. “You don’t have to fully customize them if you don’t want to. Just pick a race and whatever you want them to look like, I guess.”
“Yeah, right…” Keyleth looks distraught at her screen. “You know what… Chat, pick a race,” Keyleth asks. Her chat window quickly fills up with people firing races: there are a few elves, some asking for a dwarf, and a couple of people asking for a Githyanki, but the majority of the requests seem to be Drow, which is the preset anyway. It doesn’t take everyone a long time to finish building their guardians, and finally, the game begins.
A lot of fun is had for the next few hours: Vax steals everything he can get his hands on (and flirts with the vampire NPC), a wizard is saved from a portal, and the group goes through their first dungeon, the overgrown ruins of an old temple where they find a sarcophagus in a dank crypt.
“Guys, I found a sarcophagus. Do you think it has a treasure inside?” Vex’ahlia asks.
“We should investigate,” Percy crosses the threshold and waits for Vex to join him before he continues.
For some reason, neither of them notices the notification in the corner that says they failed several perception checks, so once Vex’s character is by Percy’s side, he opens the lid to the tomb, making several explosions go off and fire erupt in the chamber.
“Vex’ahlia!” Percy screams in real life, jumping out of his chair so fast it tumbles back and hits the wooden floor with a loud thud.
“I’m alright, darling,” Vex reassures him from the room next door, cackling at her boyfriend’s reaction. Her and Percy’s portraits on the left side of the screen are gray with a skull symbol next to them, indicating both characters are dead.
“What the fuck happened? I was gone for thirty seconds,” Vax shouts, sitting on his chair. He had just gone to the kitchen really quickly to grab some water for himself and Keyleth when he heard Keyleth’s screams.
“When was the last time you saved, brother?” Vex manages to ask, still laughing.
“Right before we walked into this room.” Vax shakes his head, unamused. “Are you okay, Freddie?”
“Ye–yeah, I think so. That was—” Percy draws a long breath and releases it slowly, and when he speaks again, his heart has slowed, and his voice is back to normal, “—unexpected.”
Once Vax reloads the game, he goes through the room ahead of everyone to make sure he disarms every trap before they loot the sarcophagus. “Let this be a lesson about greed, everyone,” He jokes once the valuables are successfully stashed in his inventory.
Because one tragedy doesn’t come by itself, not long after, the party is suddenly ambushed by undead skeletons, making Keyleth scream in panic as her character gets knocked unconscious by one before she gets a turn to do anything.
“I don’t think we’re strong enough to defeat these guys,” She cries.
“Yeah, we are, look.” Vax’s character appears next to Keyleth’s and stabs the skeleton that attacked her twice, leaving it with two HP. “I’ll always be here to save you, Kiki.” Vax’ildan being cheesy with his girlfriend on stream is not news, but it still manages to send both their chats over the edge. This will surely make the next fanmade supercut.
“Alright, lovebirds. Shall we kill these assholes, then?” Vex teases them.
The battle doesn’t draw long once Keyleth’s character is back up—still at one HP, but up nonetheless—and this time, when they find another sarcophagus, the group allows Vax to spearhead the party.
“Well, that was fun, right, everyone?” Vax asks a few minutes later, once they get a new NPC ally and discover an arcane book that they put away to ask their wizard friend to check later.
“Yeah. I wasn’t expecting it to be so fun,” Keyleth admits, leaning back in her chair and pulling her hoodie up. She can feel her battery draining fast. They have been streaming for a few hours longer than what she usually streams for, and her body is already reacting to it.
“Even when I died,” Vex’ahlia jokes, petting Trinket’s head on her lap. She’s glad she’s not on camera today. Her hair is a mess and she’s wearing a stained t-shirt she stole from Percy’s drawer.
“I did not like that part at all,” Percy chimes in, combing a hand through his shock-white hair and making it messier than it was.
“Just be glad I saved right before you two dingus went and set all the traps off,” Vax rolls his eyes at his sister and her boyfriend. His gaze darts over his screen to Keyleth’s stream, and he sees her bury herself in her hoodie and pull her knees up to her chest. For others, it might look like she’s just cold and getting comfortable, but Vax knows she’s overwhelmed and overstimulated, and she needs to relax, so he seamlessly brings the stream to an end with the promise of another one very soon.
More adventures await this group of chucklefucks, many mistakes and perception check failures that lead to not-so-good results, a lot of flirting with NPCs—Vax finds himself torn between the Vampire and the Wizard—and even a few not-safe-for-work unexpected scenes that make Keyleth slide down her chair and hide under her desk. At the end of the day, there is no denying that game night in general, and the new game in particular, is a huge success overall, and that everyone has plenty of fun playing and watching it.

I'm here
A/n: I wrote this in honor of the actor after I heard he passed.
Prompt: I’m here, I’m not going to leave you
Character: Tommy Oliver
Y/n sat with her friends listening to them talk.
She wasn’t really paying attention to what they were saying until they started talking about the new kid at school.
“Have you seen him?”
“Yeah, he’s cute but he acts strange.”
Y/n grabbed her sketch book and stood up.
“What’s wrong Y/n?”
Y/n looked at them and groaned.
“What did we do?”
“Really? You’re all talking about him like everyone talked about me.”
“But you’re nothing like him.”
“So?” Y/n turned away. “Until you get to know him keep your mouths shut!”
“Wow. Touchy much.”
“Oh like you would know Kimberly.” Y/n said glaring over her shoulder at them.
“You act like you know him.”
“Because I do. And until you guys can at least give him a chance, I’m not talking to you or anything.” Y/n said walking away.
The others looked down and Kimberly glared at her retreating form.
~
Y/n found Tommy sitting on the steps. She walked over and sat next to him.
“Thank you.”
“For standing up for you? Don’t worry.”
“But they are your friends.”
“So are you.”

The Power Rangers were getting their butts handed to them by the Green Ranger.
“Where is she?!”
“She’s not coming, remember!”
The Ranger were panting hard trying to get away.
“We need her!”
The Green Ranger stalked closer.
“Now we finish this.”
“No!”
The Green Ranger stopped when a dagger hit the ground by his feet.
He looked up and saw a new Ranger.
The new Ranger jumped down and landed in front of the others.
“Who are you?!”
“The Hydro Ranger.”
The Green Ranger growled. “I’ll put you in your place along with your friends.”
“No you won’t.”
The Hydro Ranger walked closer to the Green Ranger.
“You would never intentionally hurt me.” She said reaching down for her dagger.
“How do you know that.”
“Because you promised.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Give me your hand.” She said reaching out to him.
“Why would I trust you?”
She sighed and grabbed his hand.
He tried to pull away but he felt like she was the first person he couldn’t hurt.
She pulled him closer to that their helmets were touching.
“I’m here, I’m not going to leave you.”
He pulled away a little. “No!”
“I’m not here to help them.” She lifted her hands up to her sea green helmet.
“What is she doing?”
“Hydro stop!”
She pulled her helmet off and glared at the Rangers behind her.
“I’m here to stop you from turning into someone like them.”
“You can’t be one of them!”
She dropped her helmet and ran into his arms.
“I’m nothing like them. I’m trying to help you.”
“You can’t be a Power Ranger!”
“I am and you can be one too. Just let go of the hate.”
“You are the light.”
She put her head on his shoulder.
“For you, I would give this all up.”
“Then do it.”
“Okay but you have to too Tommy.”
“How did you know?”
She smiled at him.
“You are the only person who started talking to me just because you could. The other Rangers only became friends after I became a Ranger.”
He hugged her. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay.” She turned her head to the others. “Tell him I’m done being one of you.”
Tommy looked into her eyes.
“I told you didn’t I?”
He put his arm around her waist and laughed.
“I’m keeping you.” He said as they walked away.
“I don’t mind.”
