The Rookie Prodigy - Carlos Sainz x Driver! Reader Part 3

Plot: You are a rookie coming into the 2022 season of Formula One into Alfa Romeo with team member Zhou Guanyu, being in a mid tier team can you help them rise up the ranks. What pressures occur for the only rookies within the 2022 line up!

You were currently in your hotel room in Saudi Arabia deciding what outfit to where. Yxou ended up wearing dark red, leather pants with a white top. You wanted to stick to Alfa Romeo colours tonight which is where the outfit inspiration had come from.

You were in the lobby before everyone, a few people staying at the hotel asked you for pictures and signatures which you happily did. You waited until Charles and Carlos came down, Zhou trailing behind them.

"Zhou explained you were already down here when Carlos refused to leave without you" Charles laughed, thinking of how Zhou had walked out a minute later after hearing the constant knocking on your door and had followed the other two down here.

"Yeah, I started getting ready really early because I'm so hungry, the complimentary peanuts and Kit-Kit unfortunately didn't tide me over" you smile.

"Not too much longer till the others get here!" Zhou says, checking his phone to see if any had text him to tell him they were on their way down.

"Pierre just messaged me, they are all on their way down now. Daniel apparently lost his wallet?" Charles says, seeing what Zhou was doing and thought that maybe he might have a message.

"Amazing!" you grin excitedly.

Only a few minutes later are Pierre, Yuki, Lando and Daniel all joined with the rest of you. You pull each of them into a hug placing a light kiss as a greeting on their cheeks.

"Please tell me you guys are ready for food?" you ask, hoping that the answer would be yes and that you could all Uber over to the restaurant that had been left to Carlos and Daniel to find.

"Yes, I'm starved! I have eaten since after the race!" Lando says slinging an arm around your shoulder walking you to the front of the hotel.

"I'll book mine, Charles, Y/n and Zhou's car. Daniel are you good to do the rest?" Carlos huff's he of course wanted you in his car so he could sit next to you.

But as luck had it, or well, his friends. Zhou and you went straight in the back together when the car pulled up out the front of the hotel. Camera's from all around flashed as you both dived into the car. Charles practically legged it round the other side to sit on your otherside so he didn't have to sit next the driver and make awkward conversation.

"Really Charles?" Carlos frowns as Charles rolls down the window.

"I can sit in the front if its an issue" you smile, already starting to unbuckle prepared to slide over Charles to get out of the car and take the seat Carlos was huffing about.

"No its alright" Carlos smiles before going round to the front passenger side. You lock eyes with him in the rearview mirror and give him a massive grin. He smiles back, but it doesn't reach his eyes like it normally does.

You give him a questioning look but he turns his attention to the driver explaining where the restaurant was.

"Let's take a selfie" Zhou says taking out his phone on the camera app. As you were sat in the middle you lean closer to your team-mate smiling while Charles pulled his arm around your shoulder to do bunny ears above Zhou. You guys take a few pictures all laughing at the expressions being pulled.

"Wait that second one is so cute! Can you send them all to me, I want to post those on my Instagram!" you smile looking at the photos.

"Y/N take one with me" Carlos says holding up his phone. You pull your red shaded sunglasses down and place either arm around the shoulders of Charles and Zhou who lean into the picture while you lean back as casually as possible.

Getting to the venue was quick and painless, you were seconds behind the other car. You all walked into the restaurant, asking for the booking for eight people.

You all order with the help of the waiter giving his recommendations to which you all order sides plates to share on the table.

"So, Y/N what are you doing before Australia" Daniel asks, obviously it was easy for him, as he would already be there ready for the race that was in 2 weekends time.

"Oh, well I'm not sure If they'll want me and Zhou in Switzerland for a day or two. But i think I may go back to London for a little, or I don't know a last minute trip somewhere a little warmer" you smile.

"Oh you could come too..." Carlos starts about to extend an offer for you to come to Spain for a few days to his family home if you wanted too.

"You guys are eating here too?" you hear and you look away from Carlos seeing Lewis, Fernando and Sebastian. The later two says there hellos with a few fist bumps and shoulder hugs before following after the waitress who kindly waited for them while they talked.

Lewis nodded at them, and stayed behind to talk to the others knowing he'd find them later.

"You found this place too?" you ask. Lewis nods with his typical bright and dazzling smile.

"Yeah, under recommendations of people in the hotel" he admits, which is pretty much exactly where you guys had gotten it from.

"Did i just hear you saying you wanted to go somewhere warmer before Australia" Lewis asks.

"Oh yeah, i think Carlos was just about to add something, what were you saying?" you ask wanting to know what the Spaniard was going to say.

"Oh, nothing it isn't ..." he trails off looking down at the piece of bread that he was currently buttering.

"No no! You said i could come to...??" you push, you were hoping he might say he was going on vacation, even if it was with the others and was going to offer you to come.

But honestly your family always tended to be really busy when you came home so you always felt really alone.

"I was going to say you could come back to Spain with me for a bit, its warmer, even in April" he says not making eye contact with you.

"And you've always got the offer of California with me" Lewis smiles before looking away to find where the other two drivers he was with had gone.

"Or China will be pretty warm, your more than welcome to come back with me. I'm not going to Sheffield" Zhou smiles, and you were so thankful that all of these people had these offers up for you.

"Monaco is also free, I still need to show Lando a little more if you would like to join, maybe check out future property investments" Charles says wiggling his eyebrows at you, a laugh coming from your mouth before taking a sip of the new wine that had been delivered to you table.

"Now that would be fun. Then we can all haggle a ride with Max" Lando admits sipping at his coke.

"Or Australia will take you early..." Daniel says, which you know you'd end up quad-biking and playing tennis with him while begging to get all the spiders away from you.

"Well I have plenty of places to go, thank you for all the offers" you smile nodding at Lewis who said goodbye to everyone before walking away.

"Hmmmm what to do with the break now" you swish your wine round locking eyes with Carlos, whose cheeks had reddened.

"We're all going to be fighting for you, but maybe it will be better for you to come to Monaco afterwards before Italy so its a bit closer?" Lando says, thinking of the logistics behind it.

"Yeah i guess it would make more sense for you to do China with Zhou now, and then do Australia afterwards before Imola, then do Miami with Lewis, then do Spain with Carlos and then Monaco with these us too" Charles admits agreeing with Lando.

"What about us?" Yuki asks frowning feeling left out and Pierre nods along with him.

"You guys can fight that out, I'm having no part of this. It's whoever makes the best offer" you laugh, thanking the waiter as he starts to place down some of the meals.

"I'LL TAKE YOU TO SHANGHAI DISNEY" Zhou blurts out making everyone else stop what they had started to add to their small side plates.

"Fuck sake man, she loves Disney no-ones gonna top that!" Daniel argues and shakes his head.

"That's just ridiculous, I mean, I can take you to Disneyland Paris" Pierre offers, knowing that his girlfriend would also love to go and that he could force Charles to come along.

"Well, I could take her to Tokyo Disney guys ..." Yuki admits, thinking that he hasn't actually been there since he was a kid.

"Welp, whose going to step up and take her to Disney World... that's like the best one right?" Lando admits, before tilting his head to the side in a thinking face.

"I can offer you UK Alton Towers ... take it or leave it" Lando admits, trying not to laugh.

"My god, not even Thorpe Park..." you sigh dramatically.

"I do not know any theme parks in Spain... so erm I offer you a meal with my family cooked by my mother and be able to meet my dog ..." Carlos laughs scooping some more food onto his plate.

"See that does sound appealing..." you smile looking up at him catching his gaze.

"More appealing than a trip to Disney..." Daniel asks in shock, as they all knew how much you loved it. In F2 you were found in your drivers room listening to the Little Mermaid soundtrack.

"Mmmm it depends, will going from Spain to Australia be easier than China to Australia. It's all things I've gotta take into consideration" you smirk, Zhou right noe was your closest friend, the timeline of your careers was very similar, you stepped into Karting together, then moved to F3 together and then F2. So the fact that you were driving together now in a team meant the world too you.

But making new friends and new bonds, was arguably just as important.

Towards the end of the meal, you'd got a phone call from your mum. You politely excused yourself before answering the phone, everyone watched as your facial expression changed with the call, it went from pleasant to upset to angry very quickly.

"What do you think's happening?" Daniel asked.

"Between us, Y/N had a rough childhood growing up, both her parents were pretty absent and she came to live with me for a bit in our teens because they worked all the time. That's how she's managed to even afford the seat but its at the cost of having to raise herself" Zhou explained sadly, everyone seeing you in a different light, it explained the days you would run into karting late, or not have anyone there cheering you on so Zhou's parents actually started to cheer for the both of you.

They watch as you cut the call, nodding your head.

Your plans were completely ruined. You'd have to fly to Switzerland first thing tomorrow with Zhou for a factory debrief and then you'd leave to go back home at the request of your parents...

"Welp, Disney or Spain are off the table ..." you say looking down sadly as you walk back in slumping in your seat.

"What happened?"

"The one time, i plan something with my friends and they want to catch up?" you huff not understanding the way the universe was working right now, it sure wasn't in your favour.

"There's 365 days of the year, there are lots of days for Disney" Carlos comforts you rubbing your arm, making you lean further into the needed comfort.

"Well, I'll come back with you I guess. My mum will be there anyone, to get some house bits sorted. Then I'll go to China" he smiles knowing you'd be happier to get the flight with him.

Two Lines, Two Idiots Chapter Six: Crying Into A Cupcake

Pairing: Rafe Cameron x Maybank!Reader, Twin!JJ Maybank x reader

TW:pregnancy, slight angst, very brief mention of abuse, brief mention of addiction, so much fluff and cuteness, I think thats all

Summary: You, Rafe, and the pogues finally find out what youre having.

Things have settled down ever since Rafe confronted Ward a couple of weeks ago. It's been radio silence from the older Cameron, though Rose has tried to reach out a few times. She's even sent flowers, but her attempts at reconciliation have been ignored.

If there's one thing you've learned about that family, it's that there's always an angle. Maybe Rose really does feel bad, or maybe she's playing both sides of the field. There's no way to know, and it's not a risk either of you are willing to take.

Since Rafe's 'family' is out of the picture and your dad is obviously not in your life, that leaves the pogues. So when you and Rafe went to your appointment yesterday, you decided not to find out the genders just yet.

Instead, you had them send the results to a local bakery which is where you are now. Your friends don't know that they're finding out what you're having today, and your body is buzzing with excitement at the idea.

You've never been a big fan of gender reveal parties and even if you were, who is there to invite? Instead, you're opting for a small intimate affair with just Rafe and your found family. The nice older lady brings you your order; seven cupcakes that are dyed either all blue, all pink, or a combination.

You thank her with a smile after Rafe pays, and make the trek back to the truck. He helps you up since your belly is large enough now to cause issues. You're glad that the secret is about to be revealed because even though you're only fifteen weeks, the rate that you're growing is bound to start raising questions.

"Are you excited?"

Rafe smiles at you briefly before turning his attention back to the road and he squeezes your hand. The route to the chateau is second nature now since he's been staying there; ever since the altercation, he's refused to step foot back in Tannyhill.

You're not sure what's happening with the living situation, but JJ and John B have both insisted that you can just set up in the spare room and stay there. You're not quite sure how that could possibly work with Rafe practically moved in and two babies on the way, but you've written it off to be figured out later.

"Yeah, but I'm nervous too. What if they freak out?"

Rafe shoots you a glance and shrugs his shoulders, not at all concerned.

"They will at first, but based on how involved they already are, I'm guessing it'll quickly turn to happiness."

You sigh and nod, nerves eating at your mind.

"I hope so."

When the two of you arrive, everyone is already outside scattered around the yard. JJ is laying in the hammock with John B standing over him, Sarah and Kie are sitting on a log laughing about something, and Pope is off in his own little world reading a book.

The scene makes your heart swell as you watch all the people you love most in the world in one place, and you swallow the lump in your throat.

"Ready?" Rafe asks, and you turn to face him with a timid smile.

"As I'll ever be."

At that, you take a step forward and plaster on your best happy face.

"Hey, losers. You up for some dessert?"

Your voice draws their attention and they all face you with intrigued expressions. Sarah catches on first as she leaps to her feet with wide eyes and rushes forward.

She looks at the treats in Rafe's hand with swirled pink and blue icing on top and moves to snatch them from him.

"Is that what I think it is?"

Rafe quickly dodges her and holds them up over his head with a smirk.

"Sure is. Ready to find out what we're having?"

This successfully gets the rest of the pogues to join and JJ wraps an arm around your shoulder.

"I can't believe my little sister is having a kid."

You roll your eyes at his cheeky grin and push him off of you.

"Fuck off, JJ. You were born before me by two minutes."

You can't help but grin at his childlike laughter, and bump your shoulder into his. Sarah looks like she's about to explode as she bounces on the ball of her feet and stares at the plastic container.

"Can we please eat the cupcakes? I'm going to die."

You laugh at her pleading and nod at Rafe who starts handing them out.

"Okay, on the count of three everybody take a bite."

You wait for everyone to nod in understanding and take a deep breath before starting the countdown.

"Okay. One…two…three!"

You take a large bite and stare down at the blue with sparkling eyes before turning to Rafe. He's got a blue cupcake as well, and the two of you wait for everyones reactions. You figure JJ must also have blue when he lets out a loud cheer accompanied by a fist pump.

"Fuck yeah, it's a boy!"

You watch confusion grow on John B and Kie's faces as they turn their cupcakes around to show them to you.

"No, it's a girl."

John B's face is set in a deep frown and you turn to face Rafe with wide eyes before leaping into his arms. He throws his arms up and cheers once he sets you down, over the moon to be having one of each.

Rafe had been begging the universe for a daughter; a little daddy girl that he could spoil and take on dates.

"Wait, I'm lost. Did they screw up the order?"

You don't answer your brother, instead giving them a second to stew. You see John B figure it out first, and he turns to you with his jaw dropped.

"Wait, are you fucking serious?"

You nod your head with a smile that puts the sun to shame and giggle loudly when he carefully picks you up and spins you around. The rest aren't far behind, and when he sets you down JJ grabs your arm to make you face him.

There's an unspoken question in his eyes and you just nod in confirmation. You see his eyes well up with tears and get concerned for a moment before he shakes his head and pulls you into a bone-crushing hug.

"Holy shit. You're gonna have a Y/N and JJ 2.0"

The realization hits you like a ton of bricks as you return his embrace and bury your head into his shoulder. You and JJ might have your squabbles, but the bond you have is one of a kind. It warms your heart to think your son and daughter are going to have a built-in best friend.

"Oh my god, this means I don't have to choose! I can shop the entire baby section!"

You let out a watery laugh at Sarah's exclamation and wipe your tears. She launches forward and throws her arms around your neck, joy radiating off of her.

"I'm so glad that you're gonna be the mother of my niece and nephew. I can't begin to explain how happy I am for both of you. You've always been my sister, but this is just a whole new level. I love you."

She whispers into your ear, and you hug her a little tighter as the sentiment causes a fresh round of tears.

"I love you too, Sarah."

She releases you after a few moments and goes over to Rafe, letting the rest of the group get in their hugs with you.

The look on your boyfriend's face is one of sheer glee and terror, and Sarah pulls him aside.

"Are you okay?"

Rafe brings his thumb up to his mouth and gnaws on the side of it, a nervous habit he picked up as a child.

"Yeah, I'm good. Just scared."

Sarah nods and takes a moment to mull over his confession.

"Scared of what? You've been ironclad through this whole thing. What changed?"

The look in Rafe's eyes is akin to a little kid, and suddenly Sarah knows what he means.

"Oh. You're scared to have a son."

When her brother doesn't respond, she places a gentle hand on his forearm.

"Rafe, you're not Dad. You never have been. You've made bad decisions, but you're trying to be better. That's more than he could say. I see the way you look at her. It's like she hung the moon and stars."

He nods and shifts on his feet, his eyes burning with unshed tears.

"I wish Mom was still here."

Sarah gives him a sympathetic look before pulling him into a hug.

"Me too. She'd be so excited, and proud of you. I know that she would have loved Y/N."

The two of them just stand there for a moment, finding comfort in each other before she pulls back and nods toward you.

"Go celebrate with your girl. This is your guys' moment."

You beam up at Rafe as he rejoins your little circle and lean into him when he wraps his arms around you to place his hands on your belly.

"I can't believe you didn't tell us."

John B is still in shock and you laugh lightly.

"We wanted it to be a surprise. Plus, we were still coming to terms with it ourselves."

He nods with a huff and Sarah slaps his arm, a quick reminder that this isn't about him. You all settle in around a bonfire, discussing the babies and what you all think they'll be like.

JJ insists they'll have his signature blonde hair, and Rafe swears they'll have his piercing blue eyes and irresistible charm.

A short while later, you're sitting on the beach staring out at the waves when you feel someone sit beside you.

"You good, sis?"

You avoid his gaze, peering up at the stars and trying to suck the tears back into your eyes.

"Hey, what's wrong?"

JJ has always picked up on your moods at an annoyingly fast pace, and you sniffle.

"I'm so fucking afraid, J. Like stomach in knots, throwing up, straight up panic attack fear."

He frowns and pulls you into his side, his hand coming up to comb through your hair like he did when you were younger after one of Luke's episodes.

"Do you wanna talk about it?"

He's always been so patient and gentle with you, well aware that you're the more sensitive one. You've always put on a brave face, but JJ knows that it's just a front. Under the surface, you're just as close to the edge as he is.

"Don't get me wrong, I'm so happy. I just can't help but wonder if he's doomed. I silently hoped not to have a boy. I mean, look at the men in his bloodline. On both sides. One is a deranged money-hungry psychopath, and the other is an abusive addict. He's set up to fail before he even has a chance."

Your throat burns as you talk through the constriction and more hot tears fall into your lap.

"Y/N, look at how Rafe and I turned out. Sure, we're both a little reckless and hot-headed; but all things considered, we do okay. We both came straight from the lion's den and managed to make it out. Your little boy is going to have an entire army behind him and everything we grew up without. He's going to be the best, I promise."

You turn your head to look at him, skepticism clear on your face.

"You really think so?"

He nods instantly and leans forward to press a kiss to your temple.

"I know so. Have you talked to Rafe about this? I'm sure he's thinking the same thing."

You shake your head and JJ sighs, moving to stand up.

"I'm going to send him over. Don't shut him out, okay? You guys are in this together."

He doesn't give you a chance to respond, and within a couple of minutes, Rafe is rushing over. He drops to his knees beside you, and his heart drops at the sight of your bloodshot eyes and puffy cheeks.

"What's going on, baby? Talk to me."

He looks so worried, and it makes your heart clench. His eyes never leave yours, his hands on either side of your face forcing you to look at him.

"I don't want him to be a Cameron."

You immediately regret your choice of words when hurt flashes through his ocean eyes, but he doesn't interrupt.

"I don't mean it like that. I just mean.. the men in your family have so much pressure on them. I don't want him to grow up hard and calloused the way you were forced to. I want him to be soft and kind. I want him to be a kid."

Rafe nods in understanding before pulling you into his lap.

"Baby, I promise I'll do everything in my power to make sure that doesn't happen. I want him to be happy too, and I'd go to the ends of the earth to achieve it. I want all of you to be happy. I know we haven't talked about it yet, but if it'll ease your mind then we can give them your last name. Hell when we get married, I'll take your last name. Whatever puts a smile on that pretty face."

You shake your head from side to side and stifle another sob.

"I don't want him to be a Maybank either. He's going to have a reputation either way, but at least with the Camron title, it won't be that he's a troublemaker destined to end up in prison. Neither of us comes from a great lineage, and that's what worries me. It's like he's cursed to either be a power-hungry asshole or an abusive drunk that steals and gambles."

He leans down so he's eye level with you and shakes his head.

"Y/N, that's not true. We'll build our own legacy and it'll be good and loving. Our babies don't have to carry the burden we did just because they share the name."

You nod, but Rafe can tell that something is still bothering you.

"That's not all of it. What else is going on in that brilliant mind of yours?"

You hesitate for a moment before deciding that if this is going to work, you have to be honest.

"I never had a mother figure."

He catches on instantly, already sure he knows where this is going.

"What if I'm a bad mom?"

Rafe looks genuinely taken aback and offended at the mere suggestion, his eyebrows pinched together. Even in your current state, your hand reaches up to smooth out the crease and he leans into your touch.

"You're going to be the best fucking mom. You know how I know? Because of that right there. Even when you're going through something, your first instinct is to take care of me. You care for everyone around you, baby; and it's not because you have to. It's just who you are."

His thumb swipes under your eye when another tear falls and he continues.

"You are the most selfless, thoughtful, and kind person I've ever met. You don't treat people well to get something out of it, you do it because you have a good heart. You don't even realize it, and I'm going to spend every day reminding you."

He stops for a second, and you can tell he's debating on saying something else.

"I love you. I'm so in love with you that it makes my head spin and I can't make sense of it. You make me want to be a better person, Y/N. you've given me a reason to live and for that, I will always be grateful."

Rafe leans his forehead against yours and closes his eyes, just soaking up your presence. Really, he's trying to transfer all your pain and heartache over to himself. How can he not? You're his entire world, and if he could download all of your suffering he would without a second thought.

Usually, commitment would send you running for the hills. With anybody else, it's always raised alarm bells and sent your nervous system into fight or flight.

Nothing good has ever come from it; you've seen it over and over again. Yet, as you sit here in Rafe's arms you feel nothing but a serene calmness. You feel safe and at home, exactly where you're meant to be.

"I'm in love with you too. I've never told anybody that before, I've always left before it could get that far. But I don't want to run this time. I don't want to run ever again, not if it's away from you."

He pulls you into a sweet kiss, and in this tiny blip in the space-time continuum, every puzzle piece slots into place.

"I'll do anything I have to to make sure the three of you are taken care of. Our boy will be just fine because he has you. I'm never going anywhere."

Your cries have died down to hiccups and Rafe's heart feels like it's been pulverized at the smallness of your voice.

"Promise?"

He pulls back and sticks his hand out, nothing but love and soothing energy rolling off of him and into you.

"Pinky."

You hook your finger around his and you both kiss it, a vow to make a better life than what you were handed. His words from a few moments ago suddenly register in your foggy mind, and his heart soars at the mischievous smile that suddenly splits your face.

"Wait, did you say when we get married?"

He groans, his unspoken prayer that you didn't catch his slip-up going unanswered.

"I did. I meant it, too. It doesn't have to be anytime soon, but one day my ring is going to be weighing down your left hand with a diamond big enough to be seen from space."

Your lips crash into his and his hands encircle your waist as the two of you smile into the kiss.

"I'm holding you to that."

You squeal when he tickles his sides and his hand comes up to poke your nose.

"I expect nothing less."

restructuring the wheel of time into ten books

So a little while ago, there was a poll about people's favored choice for how many books should have been in WoT -- I voted for 'ten' and this is, I guess, my argument for a ten book series.

Books 1-5, I don’t really have any notes on when it comes to structure. Every book is complete in and of itself. While books 2 & 3 do have something of a repetitive structure, I think that works better in a book series than in a tv series.

The only suggestions that I would have structurally would be minor things like “tweak Rand’s power levels in the early books to keep him more in line with what he does later” (aka what the show is doing, lol) and maybe not having Ishamael present during the Battle of Falme and having that purely against the Seanchan, so that we don’t have super similar climaxes for Rand two books in a row (Rand could get his wound in Tear instead). And those are the sorts of things that I think it might be likely that Jordan would have done if he’d known exactly how long the series would end up being -- ex. he clearly backed down on Rand’s power jump when he realized that the series would be going for longer than he’d originally planned.

One minor plot change that I would do is put Perrin feeling Rand tug at him as the epilogue of TFOH or thereabouts. Just a little hint of Perrin in there, showing that he'll have a bigger role in the next book.

Book 6, though... I have some thoughts there.

Lord of Chaos/A Crown of Swords: this is the first book where the beginning really takes some time getting off the ground -- there are several Salidar chapters that could have been combined. This is really the first place in the books where characters hang around doing nothing (we're told more than once in Elayne & Nynaeve's PoV that they're barely being taught anything and that being there feels pointless), waiting for it to be time to actually Do Some Plot (the big Healing of severing) and it's just the beginning of a bad trend.

The other structural change that I would suggest is not doing the weird feint with Mat's character where he starts off doing a "Rand's general" storyline and then creakily transitions over to Salidar instead. Since Mat isn't actually going to Illian, he doesn't need to be marching south. He could just still be in Cairhien/Caemlyn and have Rand take him to Salidar from there. As it is, we end up spending several chapters on a storyline that gets abruptly terminated part of the way through the book so that Mat can do a completely different storyline instead and that really pads out the pages unnecessarily (this was a really bad trend that happened with Mat's character in particular more than once in the books; his storylines would just stop in their tracks and get shifted to something else entirely and never go back to his original storyline; ex. we literally never find out why/what the murdered caravan of Tuatha'an had to do with anything, because Mat never bothers to tell Rand their message because he spends the entire rest of the book series doing completely unrelated things and only ever sees Rand again for a brief conversation that is dominated by everyone catering to his slaver wife -- we never get payoff for the vast majority of Mat's storylines, even the minor threads). It really does feel like Jordan started writing the book, then went "oh shit, Mat needs to meet & marry the DotNM" and just abruptly changed Mat's story to yeet him to Ebou Dar without actually rewriting the earlier bits in the book.

Outside of that, the main change I would suggest being made in these books is improving Min’s characterization and Min and Rand’s relationship by NOT having Min change herself for Rand. Let Rand fall in love with Min as she is, not the dolled-up version of Min that she invents for Rand’s benefit (there are other characterization tweaks I would recommend as well, but Min is kinda the biggest issue imo).

The main ‘story arc’ for Rand that's set up in LoC is ‘defeating Sammael’ and it should take place over the course of a single book, not two separate books. Parts of ACoS would be saved for the next book but the Illian climax should happen in the same book that the story starts. I would title this book “A Crown of Swords” so that the focus is on Rand’s story, not the Forsakens' (and part of the oddness here is definitely due to Jordan changing his mind about doing the Taim-Demandred combo, so he sets up something that ends up going nowhere).

Inciting incidents:

Egwene is summoned to Salidar leading to Rand sending Mat there as well

Min arrives in Caemlyn, leading to The Box Incident

Turning point:

After the Box incident, Perrin and Rand stage a fight so that Perrin can go find Masema

Egwene sends Elayne, Nynaeve, Mat & co to Ebou Dar to look for the Bowl of the Winds and they actually take advantage of Mat being ta’veren right away instead of waiting around for a month (all the delays in Mat's various storylines had a knock-on effect in delaying everyone else's storylines, imo -- the Slog happens because everyone is waiting on Mat, whether they know it or not)

Climax:

Rand defeats Sammael

The attack of the Seanchan on Ebou Dar begins

A Crown of Swords/The Path of Daggers/Winter’s Heart: The Path of Daggers only needs some of trimming imo. Once that trimming is done, I think Elayne’s section of the prologue of WH could slid into it fairly neatly as a bit of an ‘upbeat’ epilogue, which would be a contrast to the darkness of Rand’s ending in the previous book and his defeat here when he tries to repel the Seanchan from Ebou Dar.

Also have Mat interact with Tuon throughout this book, essentially like he did in WH (Mat's interactions with Tuon in WH make sense with his previous characterization; it's in CoT & KoD when Jordan had him completely reverse on his moral outlook on slavery so that he would be willing to make out with a slaver - genuinely, how Mat goes from sympathizing with slaves in WH to sympathizing with slavers in CoT remains one of the most baffling writing choices that I've ever run across; especially with how limp and one-sided it made everything about Mat & Tuon feel in those books for me, because Jordan drained all the potential interesting conflict out of the pairing so that he could focus on Mat navel-gazing about his self-inflicted prophecy woes, making him just Min 2.0. *sigh*). This book I would choose to be named “The Path of Daggers” out of the available options.

Inciting incidents:

Elayne & Nynaeve use the Bowl of the Winds as Ebou Dar is invaded by the Seanchan and Mat gets left behind during the escape

Perrin & co find Masema, etc.

Egwene uses the rule of law to take control of the Salidar Aes Sedai

Turning point:

Mat first meets Tuon -- maybe give Mat & Tylin’s first meeting to Mat & Tuon instead, where he accidentally greets her using the Old Tongue, thus sparking her interest (cut out Mat & Tylin’s ‘relationship’ entirely, it was zero percent needed and is needed even less if Tuon arrives in the first wave of the attack, as I'm suggesting here)

Rand learns about the invasion by the Seanchan and goes campaigning

Egwene & the Aes Sedai jump to Tar Valon and begin their siege (since they no longer need to kill time to let Mat's plotline happen)

Climax:

Rand fails to defeat the Seanchan & gets attacked in the Sun Palace but kills the attackers here instead of us needing the Far Madding detour (which just felt like a less emotionally-impactful version of The Box to me and Jordan giving in to his desire to write a travelogue)

Faile learns Masema is dealing with the Seanchan and kills him, cutting off that entire path of slog by not getting kidnapped (we really only need one kidnapped wife imo)

Mat escapes Ebou Dar, kidnapping Tuon along the way (there's our allotted Kidnapped Wife)

Egwene is captured by the White Tower Aes Sedai when the rebels block off the harbors to Tar Valon

Winter’s Heart/Crossroads of Twilight/Knife of Dreams: All three of these books would have greatly benefited from being massively cut down to a single volume. This one also has a touch of TGS in it, mostly because Egwene had a lot more story left after KoD than pretty much any other character except maybe Mat.

Specific items to change or cut:

Cut out Far Madding entirely (Rand killed the attackers in Cairhien). Since Tuon arrived with the initial Seanchan invasion fleet in Ebou Dar, Nynaeve can be honest with Rand about Mat being left behind but Rand can see (in his color swirl vision) that Mat is no longer in Ebou Dar and has already escaped, filling that plot hole (the list of contrivances to keep Rand from knowing what happened to Mat frustrated and annoyed me so much when I was reading books WH-KoD).

Have the love confessions and Rand sleeping with Elayne, but don’t do the bonding yet. Have Rand leave Min behind in Caemlyn when he takes Nynaeve off to do the cleansing, so she can (emotionally) bond with Elayne & Aviendha. Since Min was just at ground zero for a terrible attack that was focused on Rand (which should, to Rand, prove his fears about being a danger to the people he loves to be correct!), it really is so bizarre that he keeps backpacking her around to dangerous place (Far Madding) after dangerous place (the Cleansing) after dangerous place (parlay with the Seanchan) and mostly shows that Jordan a) just had no more plot beats for Min until she played pregnancy test for Tuon in the epilogue and b) primarily saw Min as Rand’s Hero Reward rather than a character in her own right. But the whole affair mostly just undermined Rand’s character journey for me (he's so isolated! ...except for his live-in girlfriend).

Don’t do the Shaido plotline at all (have the Shaido scatter back to the Waste post-Dumai’s Wells); instead this should be where Perrin starts his wolf boot camp, so that he actually has a more appropriate amount of time for training before the Last Battle (and his emotional storyline would be a conflict with Faile over her killing Masema). I guess you can do the Whitecloaks storyline here.

Have Mat be the one to make a treaty with the Seanchan, and have Semirhage order the ‘airfleet’ against the White Tower instead of Tuon doing it. Instead of Mat accidentally giving himself away for nothing, have the Mat-Tuon marriage as part of the deal to seal the treaty, since Mat has figured out that she believes that he needs to be her husband, per prophecy, so he uses that to actually get concessions out of her. Because we aren’t trying to convince the readers that Mat is the sort of person who is capable of falling in love with a slaver in the space of a single month, we don’t need to spend two whole books wandering the Altaran countryside doing random shit and instead can get to the politics of it all. Let Mat actually continue to be smart and empathetic in this section of the storyline, rather than lopping off those parts of him and turning him into a zombie bootlicker yes-man. You can still layer in elements of Mat seeing potential in Tuon to be more than just a slaver, just don't have him toss his entire brain & morals away in order to kiss her ass.

Out of the available titles here, I think “Knife of Dreams” is the best one.

Rand faces off against Semirhage and captures her

Mat finds out that sul'dam (and thus Tuon) can channel and actually uses it as a negotiation tactic against her, please let this man use his brain during literally any of his conversations with Tuon, I am begging you. The way he reacts in the books to finding out that Tuon is a sul'dam and then that Tuon can channel is SO FUCKING BIZARRE. He just Does Not Care about slavery at all in CoT & KoD and is all Me Me Me about all of the Tuon revelations. In the previous books, Mat claims to be selfish even while constantly doing heroic/selfless things, but in CoT & KoD, he really does just come across as a genuine selfish bastard, someone who only thinks about himself and who doesn't give a shit about anyone else.

Climax:

Tuon and Mat agree on the terms of their marriage alliance and Say The Words

Elayne defeats her fellow claimants to the throne; maybe Min helps root out that Darkfriend captain in her guards, which would lend weight to her being able to do the same later for Tuon and also make it so that Min is at least as helpful to Team Light as she was to the Seanchan

The Seanchan (sent by Semirhage before she went to face Rand) attack the White Tower.

The Gathering Storm/Towers of Midnight: ToM has never made any sense as a title, so I would call this combined book “The Gathering Storm”. This section is more about putting things in a somewhat different order than they happened in the books, with a few tweaks.

Inciting Incidents:

Egwene defeats the Seanchan at the White Tower

Semirhage is freed by Elza and captures Rand, and (stealing @markantonys's excellent suggestion) Nynaeve is the one targeted when Semirhage forces Rand to her will, making Rand push Nynaeve away 'for her protection'

Rand and Egwene have a tense encounter that makes her doubt his sanity.

Turning point:

After taking the test to become full Aes Sedai, Nynaeve gets Lan's bond from Myrelle and then, since Myrelle was literally right outside the Black Tower at the time, Nynaeve and Logain deal with the Black Tower

Egwene deals with the assassins in the Tower (Gawyn subplot)

Perrin deals with the dreamspike and kills Slayer | Egwene deals with Mesaana

Aviendha returns from Rhuidean and reunites with Elayne & Min

Climax:

Rand attacks his father, leading to the moment on Dragonmount

post-epiphany, Rand actually goes to check in on his friends and loved ones, thus making his epiphany have an impact on the storyline -- he Travels to where Mat is and is the one who helps Mat get from Point A (Altara) to Point B (Caemlyn) and letting them actually have a real reunion, delivering Aludra to Elayne, where she is ready to make weapons. In Caemlyn, he talks to Elayne, Aviendha, & Min, leading into the bonding moment.

Mat saves Moiraine from the Tower of Ghenjei.

(epilogue) Tuon arrives back in Ebou Dar and takes control of the Seanchan forces, letting everyone know that there is now a treaty with the Westlands. Her going back with a treaty already tentatively in place would actually make the triumphant tone that the books try to take her with her return make a lot more sense than... readers apparently supposed to be happy??? that one slaver is taking over from another slaver, even though Tuon is just as willing to do awful shit to our protagonists as Suroth was, so it feels like a distinction without a difference to me. Technically, is Tuon marginally better than Suroth? Eh, maybe, but not by much.

A Memory of Light: Most of my changes here either follow from earlier ones (we already have a treaty with the Seanchan, so Mat can just go to Merrilor to start General’ing right away), but apart from that:

Let the Emond’s Field Five (plus Elayne) have a group reunion! (easier to do in this version where Mat's storyline isn't all about sucking up to Tuon, I admit)

Let Perrin and Mat be at Rand’s funeral! (genuinely so bizarre that Sanderson didn't do a one-sentence fix of this tbh; that would have been the easiest thing in the world to fix. One sentence is all you would have needed.)

Let Moiraine be the person who realizes that Rand is still alive, not Cadsuane.

The battle itself could have been cut down somewhat in order to leave more room for character interactions (we probably don't need three separate sword duels for Demandred; kinda excessive). This is a goodbye to people some of us spent over a decade loving; we should be given proper goodbyes to them.

I also feel like there's no need to have everyone and their brother know that Rand is in a relationship with three women? And it felt pointless to have people know that Rand is the father of Elayne's kids too. Have Rand tell his dad (and then have Tam actually act like he has that knowledge during his scenes with Elayne; it is genuinely bizarre how formal Tam and Elayne's interactions were in AMoL; she knows that he's Rand's dad! That's the grandfather of her kids!) but there's no need for a continent-wide memo about Rand's love life. I know this was likely all because of the epilogue where the whole world knows about ~the three~ grieving widows but this is all about a theoretical world of only ten books total, so some tweaking of the epilogue is happening regardless.

Inciting incidents:

Moiraine arrives (with Mat) to help heal the rift between Egwene and Rand

Darkfriends attack Caemlyn through the Ways

Climax:

Rand vs The Dark One

Everyone else vs the Shadow’s forces

So, that would leave us with ten books total (plus the New Spring prequel):

The Great Hunt: more important plot elements are introduced, like the Seanchan; Rand begins to learn leadership

The Dragon Reborn: Rand accepts being the Dragon Reborn & takes on a full-time leadership role; Mat now has his luck & Perrin has met Faile

The Shadow Rising: Perrin takes on a leadership role when he leads the defense of the Two Rivers

The Fires of Heaven: Mat takes on a leadership role during the Battle of Cairhien, creating the Band of the Red Hand

A Crown of Swords: Egwene takes on a leadership role by becoming Amyrlin Seat of the rebel Aes Sedai

The Path of Daggers: Elayne takes on a leadership role by putting in her claim to become Queen of Andor

Knife of Dreams: Rand & Nynaeve reverse the Dark One’s counterstroke and then Rand tries and fails to make an alliance with the Seanchan (fake!Tuon); Perrin goes to wolf boot camp; Mat makes a treaty with the Seanchan via marriage alliance to the DotNM; Elayne gets all ten Houses she needs to secure the throne; Egwene has all-but won over the White Tower as well.

The Gathering Storm: we all prepare for the Last Battle; Rand has his epiphany, in whatever form it takes; Mat saves Moiraine; Perrin defeats Slayer; Egwene and Elayne prepare their respective areas for TLB.

A Memory of Light: the journey ends (for this age)

I feel like this gives us a more consistent build-up to the ending, with each piece building upon the ones before, and not taking an excessive amount of time with subplots in the endgame. Each character also has a more consistent progression as well.

You let out a playful scoff, acting offended. “Well excuse you Daryl, The Golden Bite is an amazing diner!” You spoke to him over the phone.

That’s when your coworker, Annie came walking with a plate in hand that had a half eaten burger. “Still tastes like cardboard.” She sang as she headed back to the kitchen.

“Annie-”

“Still not gettin’ it?”

You rolled your eyes. “Gonna come and say it to my face?” You flinched at the loud voices coming from the kitchen, Annie was once again arguing with the cooks.

You don’t blame her, the cooks the manager hired are shit and so is the quality of the food. It’s a shock that this place hadn’t been shut down yet.

You heard Daryl laugh and the infamous sound of his motorcycle. “I still wanna live another day and get another taste, still thinkin’ of ya.”

Your face immediately became hot, you thought you would break your phone with how tight you were clutching it.

“Daryl!” You harshly whispered.

“I’m an honest man and I’m honest when I say, I wanna bend you over my bike again.”

“I’m at work!”

“That ain’t gonna stop me.”

Annie poked her head around the corner. “Oh yeah, Meredith said that the sheriff wants you. Ain’t taking anybody else.” She disappeared before you could retort.

“That’s my cue.”

“I’ll talk to you later, Judas.” You set your phone in your pocket and looked over your shoulder for a quick glance, right by the window.

Shane sat at the table, looking over the menu as if he hadn’t been here for the hundredth time. You snapped your head back at the coffee machine the second his eyes drifted away from the menu.

You were still reeling from the conversation you had with him before, the two of you hadn’t talked, texted, or called each other. He didn’t stop by whenever he was in the neighborhood, did he feel guilty?

You walked to his table with a pen and notepad in hand. “Hey, Shane, what can I get you?”

“Just the special and a large coffee, nothin’ in it.”

“I’ll get that-”

“Can you give me a minute?” Shane interrupted you.

You looked up from your notepad and lifted an eyebrow. “Somethin’ wrong?”

“Jus’ sit, I won’t be long.”

You sighed. “If I get busted, it’s gonna be on your head, Walsh. I need this job.”

Shane chuckled. “You could always become a stay at home wife.”

You scoffed, clicking your pen. “Yeah? Who the hell’s gonna deal with my bullshit?”

“Me as your husband.”

Your heart sank into your stomach. “What?” You needed to bite this in the bud, like Amy said. “Look Shane, I don’t think-”

“You say that but what ‘bout later? Down the line? What happens when the jackass becomes borin’? Or worse? Hurts you?”

You could only shake your head in disbelief, Daryl was many things. He’s wild, secretive, and could be distant at times but he would never hurt you.

“Seriously? Do you really think that low of Daryl?! You don’t even know him.”

“Do you even know him?”

“That’s-”

“Do you know where the guy lives or any idea what he does for a livin’?” Shane then grabbed your wrist to pull you closer, his hot breath hitting your face. “I know you, (Y/n). I know that you like to chase after people who ain’t good for you and you know it! He’s one of them. And I know you’re better and safer with me.”

“I don’t-!”

“Pardon me!” Annie made you both jump back, Shane releasing his tightening grip. “Are you lovebirds done arguing?”

“Annie-!”

“Because we would like you to keep the volume down or take it outside.” Annie cut you off before you could even explain. “Or you can get back to work and not lose this job.”

“I’m sorry.” You mumbled, scurrying off to the kitchen.

Annie’s eyes turned to Shane who she glared at. “You ain’t good for her. Not even close.” She turned on her heel and followed you.

She found you in the break room, rubbing your arms and taking deep breaths. She could see it in your eyes, the slight anger.

“Need me to ask Miguel to toss that guy out?” Annie placed a hand on your shoulder.

“No, no.” You waved her off, your hands now fidgeting with your fingers. “I don’t know what that was.”

“That was a glimpse of an asshole.” Annie explained. “And a jealous one from what I heard, no ‘mout of therapy can fix that man.”

“You could never know-”

“I know ‘em (Y/n).”

“He’s probably cooled off by now.” You took one final deep breath. “I’m jus’ gonna hear what else he gotta say then I’m done, I’m out of here.”

“Workin’ or him?”

“Most likely both.”

Meredith peered into the break room. “Think she’s gonna reject him?”

Annie shook her head, her hands on her hips as she took a couple steps out the break room, seeing you sit back down with Shane. “The girl loves thrill and danger. Safety is never in her handbook.”

“Worried for ‘er?”

“I’m scared shitless.”

“Look, (Y/n) I know I ain’t your type of guy. But it could all change.” Shane explained.

“I ain’t got time for this, I ain’t got time for whatever you’re dreamin’ of. It’s all it is, a dream.”

“You don’t understand.”

“I do.” You retracted your hand when he went for it, speaking as sternly as you could without drawing the attention of customers. “And if you understand, you would stop askin’ ‘bout this guy.”

“I’ll understand when I get the chance to show you that a life with me is a safer choice than whatever you have with that guy.”

You groaned, was he really going to do this to himself? “You would rather be in a loveless marriage?”

“It ain’t gonna be loveless. What I’m askin’ you to do is to go out with me.”

“HE SAID WHAT?!” Andrea snatched the pillow that hid your frustrated expression, she threw it behind her and asked the same question again, even louder if possible.

“You heard me.” You mumbled.

You didn’t know how to feel other than uncomfortable. The lump in your throat didn’t want to leave, making you feel bothered.

“What did you say?!”

“Didn’t say anythin’, told me to think ‘bout it.”

“Dammit (Y/n)!”

“I know!” You stopped her before she could scold you. “I know I should’ve said no!”

“But you gotta admit, he’s gotta be loaded with cash.”

“...He kinda is.”

“S-Seriously?”

You nodded, you grabbed another pillow to squeeze at, trying to sooth yourself. “There would be times where Shane would pay for my expenses, like rent and water.”

“Oh he’s serious ‘bout you.”

“That’s the sad part. Even if things didn’t work out with Daryl, I don’t want Shane to be a second option jus’ ‘cause I couldn’t have Daryl or it becomes borin’. I wanna be sure that if I choose Shane, it’s gotta be true.”

You jumped at the sound of the wine bottle being popped open, you stared at Andrea as she poured you a rather large glass of wine.

“Then go see Shane.”

“Y’know I can’t-”

“See Shane and see how you feel. If nothin’ changes or worse comes to worst, you feel repulsed, then tell ‘im. You can continue to see Daryl with Shane hanging over your head.”

Andrea pushed the glass into your hands. “And what if it doesn’t? What if I end up fallin’ for him?”

��Then you could lose a man you love or a man who’s only sticking ‘round when he needs you to blow or fuck.”

“Daryl doesn’t seem like the type.”

“Then that’s worse, choosing between two guys is a fuckin’ nightmare.”

‘Im on my way’

You read the text again from Shane, silently hoping all of this was just a dream and you never heard Shane asking you out.

You shut your phone and stared into the mirror, you sighed, taking your tenth pair of earrings off. You were annoyed with yourself, how hard was it to say no? Especially to Shane?

The knocking on your door made you annoyed even more, you weren’t in the mood for a guest but it dropped when you saw Carl with Rick… Carl with Rick.

You opened your door. “Hey Rick.” Then you turn to the boy. “Carl!”

Carl quickly wrapped his arms around you, nearly knocking you down. You could never stay mad at the boy.

Rick stepped in and closed your door. “I’m callin’ in a favor.”

“Shoot.” You said, managing to get his arms off to get him a little snack.

“Lori’s mom canceled on us and I know your workin’ tomorrow. I was hopin’ if you could look after Carl after your shift. Jus’ for a couple hours.”

“It’s no problem, you know I don’t mind takin’ care of your rascal.”

“Hey!” His shout made you stick out your tongue at him playfully.

“So… What’s gotcha all dolled up? Goin’ out with that guy?”

“What guy-? How did you know I was talkin’ to someone?” Rick fumbled over his words. “Grimes.”

“Shane, he was worried ‘bout you.”

“Jeez, y’know I can take care of myself.”

“Said that last time, remember what happened?”

You rolled your eyes. “It was once.”

“Three times, three guys who broke your heart.”

“It was nothin’. They were nothin’. They jus’ broke up with me, nothin’ crazy.”

“You say that now but what if it’s different?” Rick pulled you away from Carl and whispered. “What if he has a criminal record or is involved in some deep shit?”

“I can find that out.”

“And so can I but quicker, jus’ give me a name.”

“I ain’t gonna give you shit, Grimes.” You walked back to Carl. Your smile came back as you watched Carl become happy when you let him get some more.

Rick wanted to get it out of you, but if he couldn’t get it out of you, surely Carl could.

You could never say no to him.

Yandere childhood family friend/ bully

This is one of the many ocs I have created. I do have a set story / story lines in mind. But I don't know if anyone would be super interested in that so please read this and if you'd like to hear more or have me released story I have in mind (it's not completed yet just saying) just let me know and happy reading! Luke is a very obsessive possessive control of yandere.

He has known you your whole life since your parents were best friends.

Luke never left you alone as kids. Everything you did he did it with you.

Luke was the trouble maker all through school.

He has had a thing for you ever since he learned what love is. But you didn't reciprocate

So basically he is one of those "waaaah, this girl I'm in love with doesn't love me back, so now I have to take my anger out on her. Maybe this will make her love me." guys. Great, right?

In first grade he tried to kiss you and you said no and kinda wiggled away from his hug and went to your friends. Luke was so angry. He flipped a desk and started to stomp towards you, but he was dragged away from the principal.

So he may or may not have anger issues.

Later at recess that day he chased you down. Luke caught you and dragged you to a secluded area and kissed you. He told you that you're his. Very straightforward.

As you guys grew and got older he got angrier.

He wouldn't go out of his way to harass you in school. But if you guys shared a glass or walked near each other then he would mess with you.

If he went out of his way to mess with you then it might count as "bullying" and he can't have that. Luke will lose chances to be around you if that happens.

In your shared classes he would always be your partner and pick the desk next to you. It was a great opportunity to get you to himself.

If you ever tried to tell your parents about his bullying then they'll just tell you, "oh, he just is trying to show he likes you but doesn't know how to show it properly" or the "boys will be boys" card.

Luke will blackmail you. He knows any and all secrets of yours. So expect to be forced to be in a relationship with him.

He'll also force you in the relationship by threatening to kill people you love. And after seeing him beat the shit out of your desk mate for flirting with you, you know he'll do it if needed. And feel no remorse

But to him he isn't forcing you. He already believe that you two are in a relationship so him blackmailing you which he doesn't believe is blackmailing is really just him kind of giving you the little extra push to accept your relationship

Once he gets you as his girl, you will get SA. Luke will gaslight you into thinking it's normal for couples to do that. And if you when he does it then be ready ro get brateed by him.

Your parents are so happy to see you guys together. They've been rooting for you guys.

You'd think the parents wouldn't let you two be alone now you're together, but you'd be wrong. They're ecstatic that you're together. So why not let you have alone time to let the relationship blossom.

Luke will beat other people to the point of death for you.

He once heard a rumor that some piece of shit, small dicked dude (his words, not mine) liked you. The next day the dude was found nearly dead by the highway. He couldn't remember what happened. So they never found the assailant.

You also got a punishment that night.

He'll do anything for you. But he wants something in return.

"Oh? You need a ride home? Okay, tell me you love me"

Don't ever piss him off, he has anger issues, remember?

"I need you to start working on slides 5-10" you told him while working on the first half of your project. He sighed, "I could but don't really want to. Why don't you do it?". "Because I can't do the whole damn project luke!" You screamed. "Who the fuck do you think you are talking to me like that?", he questioned you. You realized your mistake and started to crawl away in tears. "Don't run away from me!" He yelled and snaked his hand around your ankle, pulling you towards him. Luke pulled you on his lap, bending you over his lap. "You act like a brat then you get treated like one." He growled out and slapped your ass hard. You cried out and started to plead with him, trying to get him to stop. Luke smacked you again. "You what's gonna happen next right?" He scolded you. You started to beg him not to, telling him you're just stressed and didn't mean it. He bent down to your ear, "Tell me you're sorry baby, and maybe I'll be nice". You started blubbering about how you're so sorry and didn't mean it. Then you saw a chilling smile form on his face, "Not good enough baby, take off your shirt."

He's never done anything below the waist. But god does he think about it. And he's more than happy to f*ck you if he gets tired of waiting. You promised him you'd have sex with him if he waited for you two to finish highschool, hoping you'd escape him or he'd move on by then.

Now he isn't just after you for sex. He does love you and wants to do all sorts of cheesy shit with you. And he will. He'll force you on so many dates with him.

Luke is very very much into PDA, and just touching you in general, but having a hand on you or kissing you in public just proves to all the worthless scum out there that you're his.

He also loves taking pictures of you. His locker is covered in photos and mementos from your many dates. And his bedroom has thousands of pictures of you.

He is just so obsessed with you. You're on his mind 24/7.

Did you know he has a dream wedding? Yeah, this crazed psycho has a dream wedding. You first heard about it while he held you on his lap during a movie marathon at his house. He randomly just spouted out how the wedding will take place. You started to feel nauseated. When he told you that you're getting married a month or two after you graduate and how your parents and his have already started putting down deposits you had to run to the bathroom to puke.

He followed you into the bathroom and held your hair (if it's long enough) for you, rubbing your back while you puke your guts out. "Oh baby, don't be nervous! Its gonna be the best fuckin wedding ever. We could invite the whole class to watch it. Then all those bastards would know you're mine." You puked harder. "Awe babe. Just think, in 3 months we'll be graduating and finally married. You'll be mine in the eyes of the law! And we'll finally fuck. God, it's gonna be great." You finally quit throwing up and just laid your head down. "Glad you got all those nerves out", Luke picked you up and took you to bed, laying with you. You noticed he turned on one of your comfort shows. "Just sleep babe."

Luke told your parents and his about how he is planning to propose. And holy shit did they lose it. They were so fucking estatic. They started helping him plan the wedding, because they know you're not gonna say no. Because you love him right?

And you'd just break their hearts if you denied Luke's undying love for you. And you can't do that to them.

So you're stuck with him for now.

Maybe you can escape graduation, or at most the wedding.

But, if you can somehow leave the state make sure you lose contact with your parents, and drop any social media you may have. Luke will stop at nothing to get you home, you're getting married soon, why would you leave him.

If you escape and you contact your parents and let them know of your whereabouts then expect for a pissed off blonde to come stopping through your workplace. How he found out where you work you may never know.

"Y/N L/N!" You heard a voice roar. 'Oh shit' you thought and scattered to the break room. You just have to figure out how to slip out without being caught. Now how were you going to manage that… Your train of thought was cut off by your terrified co worker leading Luke into your hiding spot. "Thank fuckin god!" He yelled and rushed at you. You tried to dodge him but he intercepted you. Your coworker pulled out their phone, about to dial 911, "LEAVE BEFORE I FUCKING DRAG YOUR BLOODY CORPSE MYSELF" Luke yelled and lunged at your scampering coworker with you in his arms. "I'm kickin your ass when we get home. How fuckin stupid are you?! Trying to leave your fiancée? Dumbass," he hissed. You kicked and squirmed until he threatened to kill any and everyone in the building. "Now, chill the fuck out and calmly walk with me to the car, or else they're all dead." He mumbled in your ear.

Luke will punish you physically, maybe even sexually

Now, he won't rape you (its not rape to him tho) because he knows you wanna wait till the wedding but that doesn't mean he won't touch you.

If you do push him to the edge then him waiting is thrown out the window.

"NO! LUKE STOP PLEASE!" Yous screamed and kicked up at him. Luke snarled at you, "STOP FUCKIN MOVING". You slowed your movements. "Please Luke! Don't do this, I'm sorry! I promise it won't happen again!" You cried out. He huffed at you. "I know, I'm never letting your ass outta my sight again". Luke continued to hold you down, taking off his belt to tie you up with. "I can't believe you talked to that dipshit. Acting like a slut, letting him touch you like that. You're mine!". You tried to plead with him, "Luke please stop, he was just a customer! All he did was help stead me before I fell.". Luke grabbed your throat, putting pressure on it, "I don't give a fuck what you say he might have been doing. No one, no one, touches you but me. You let him touch you, like a slut! I bet you wanted him to." Luke squeezed harder. You wheezed out an explanation but he didn't care. "Now, I'm gonna treat you like the whore you are." He ripped off your shirt with one hand. Luke loosened his grip on your throat. "Please Luke, he was just helping me! He means nothing to me, y-" you gulped, "you are the l-love of my life, I wouldn't do anything like that!". He thought for a moment so you continued, "And don't you want to wait till our wedding day? It'll be so much more special! Please don't do this just because you're mad Luke, please.". "Well, it is good to hear you agree that we're soulmates, but I deserve something after everything you put me through today. And baby, our wedding is gonna be special either way." He said then dove down to your lips, trapping you in an aggressive kiss while taking off your pants.

Yeah, so if you don't want that to happen don't push him over the edge okay? There is only so much our lover boy can take.

Luke will threaten anything and anyone you care about, or random classmates, to keep you with him. And it does work.

Oh, by the way, he will make you quit your job if you're getting too independent. Luke wants you to rely on him.

And oh my god is this man over protective. Not only are you not allowed to be around people he deems dangerous, but you also can't be around anything that might seriously hurt you.

You can cook and stuff but he wants to be supervising you and chopping whatever you need chopped. Luke also puts in and takes out things you put in the oven. Don't wanna burn your hand now do we?

Just don't deny him or his actions okay? It will not end well.

Remember how I said Luke doesn't wanna be classified as a bully to you? Well he is a bully to others. And your classmates would say he is one to you as well.

He does harass you at school. With unwanted touches, stealing your supplies or school assignment and not letting you have it without something in return, and little mean comments.

"Luke! Give me my worksheet. I need that or else Mrs. Green is gonna have my ass!" You said, jumping up to reach your paper. Luke scoffed, "If anyone is gonna have that sweet ass of yours, it's gonna be me". You ignored his comment. "Just give it!" You jumped up again, not even grazing his hand. "Fine, only if you give me a kiss." Luke gave you a shit eating grin. "What?! No! Not at school.". He sighed, "No worksheet then". You thought for a second. "Fine" you gave him a quick peck but he held you there for a second. Finally he gave you the paper. You honestly wanted to die, being forced to kiss this jackass was not on your to do list today. You stuffed the paper in your bag then skidded away to your next class.

His comments can be 'sweet' (he thinks they are) and teasing to mean and angry.

"Hey sweet stuff, doing your homework, now? God you're such a nerd!"

"I can't believe you whored yourself out like that" he huffed at you. "Luke, he was my project partner!". "Whatever, get your ass in the car."

God, isn't he sweet?

Just remember, don't piss him off, and love him back

“Nemu Hiiragi: The Shadow”

The promised Magius Nemu essay arrives. I have given up on proper essay formatting and will simply leave my analyses in semi-rant form because my brain is too chaotic and goes on too many tangents. It cannot be tamed. Informal essay under the cut!

So. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has heard others refer to Nemu as a shadow, Touka 2.0, or some other frankly reductive term. Most of the time, unless her creations come up, she’s not discussed at all, and even then… barely. That’s not exactly surprising. Given Nemu’s normally calm demeanor, and the fact that she and Touka are joined at the hip, it’s only natural that Touka would be the one to get the most attention, the one who stands out. Where Touka is the boisterous sun, Nemu is the humble moon. Today, we turn our eyes to the moon.

There is so much to talk about when it comes to Magius Nemu and pretty much all of it is going to make you really sad. Much like Touka and all other magical girls, she led a double life the entire time, but in her case, when she “traded one terminal illness for another” she got the short end of the stick. Imagine being a writer and discovering that your magic allows you to give physical form to your stories, to breathe life into your creations—literally. Now picture finding out later down the line that each time you use it, it consumes so much magic that it shaves off pieces of your very life force. That’s one slap in the face. But, it gets worse.

Let me lay out everything we know about how Magius Nemu’s sacrifices affected her physically, and how each of the people around her responded to her worsening condition. First, we know it causes pain severe enough to temporarily affect her vision and speech, and severe enough to make her fall to the ground, though she doesn’t always faint from it. We know it inflicts exhaustion and that even something like releasing an uwasa for the first time can make her pass out on the spot, so presumably it’s a lengthy process that takes a toll on her at every stage (well not sure about conceptualization, but creation and release definitely do). A voiced example of one of these episodes is in Arc 1 Chapter 8, 4:02:36 - 4:03:43 if you're watching the video.

Now, as for the people around Nemu, starting from more distant to closest. Her family? Oblivious, responsible for her state of emotional deprivation and for several other issues. Alina? Ehh she seems to either not care or care very little, which is properly Alina-esque of her. Mifuyu? Oh let me talk about MIFUYU for a second. Disclaimer, despite her many sins committed against my favorite characters, I do love the sheep, she’s too much of a failure, I cannot hate her. But Mifuyu “I want to be a nurse” Azusa is insensitive beyond belief, and I was honestly surprised when they appointed her to be some sort of… ethics teacher for Touka? Bruh. You see, an MGS is supposed to put us in the shoes of whatever character it’s about. That’s what it does. However my brain is broken and perceives the world from a TouNemu perspective by default. Which means I had a completely different reading of Mifuyu’s MGS. I am going to illustrate my point with screenshots this time because I happen to have them on hand.

Mifuyu says this about Touka and Nemu getting worked up over Alina wanting to prioritize witches above rumors. But. Here’s the thing. The thing that Mifuyu seems to be missing completely. Rumors are created by Nemu, through a sacrifice of her own life force that worsens her pain and makes her suffer more with each subsequent use. Evidently, the girls reply that no, they don’t think they were getting too emotional.

YOU THINK? Have you given any thought to why that could possibly be the case, Mifuyu? But, okay, fine, we can look past this. Alright. Next scene, it’s Touka and Nemu being upset that Yachiyo just destroyed the Divorce Stairs (I call them that, but for clarification, it’s the Friendship-Ending Staircase). I’m going to bring something up that I don’t believe is exactly contradicted by canon, though not confirmed either, but I’d be willing to believe by the fact that Nemu knows of Iroha (by name and I assume appearance) that there’s a psychic link of some kind between the uwasa and their creator. That would make sense, considering they are made of her magic and have pieces of her life force. If this is true, then that massacre Iroha and Yachiyo go on during Arc 1 Chapter 7 is far, far worse.

But alright, back to the scene. Touka is standing up for Nemu here, and Mifuyu proceeds to go and dismiss their feelings because, as she says in her thoughts, “they’re just children”. Okay, Mifuyu, hear me out. They’re 11-12. They’re not toddlers. Just because they’re children doesn’t make their emotions invalid, unimportant, or not worth considering. Particularly in this case, where they have a good reason to be upset. Nemu even mentions the life force she’s using up and Mifuyu’s first and only thought is “Yacchan…” (this is a repeating pattern).

The next relevant scene is one where Mifuyu does something Alina has also done and Touka hasn't: ask Nemu to make a rumor for her.

Nemu reminds her that it comes at a cost, and that she’s using up her life for this. Nemu gives in, of course. I will talk about this imminently. First though, the final scene of Mifuyu’s MGS. Where Mifuyu repeats the previous pattern but worse. How exactly is it worse? I’ll let the screenshots speak for themselves here. Nemu and Mifuyu meet at the shrine where the uwasa is going to be released, Nemu does the deed, and faints, then Mifuyu reacts like this:

These screenshots are less than a second apart. It is the immediate follow-up. Absolutely zero concern for one of the people she’s supposed to be responsible for who just did her a pretty big favor (as if you needed someone’s blood to open a door, they stabbed themselves to get you the blood, and then you left them on the ground in pain). So yes Mifuyu is insensitive and she is not helping Nemu’s view of adults. Relatedly, before I move to talking about Touka, since I’d like to actually end this on a non-depressing note, I’m going to circle back a little to Nemu’s family.

I am infamous for not liking Nemu’s family. Her parents, mainly. Her brother, for as much of a snotty brat as he is to her, is presumably still very tiny and has had scarce interactions with his sister, therefore leading to the way Nemu describes their relationship (“strangers”). As a slight aside, Nemu does try very hard to have a relationship with her brother, not only in her MGS, but in her solo Christmas quotes where she’s lost on what to get as a gift for a kid that likes soccer and asks Homescreen-chan for advice. And you see, Nemu has this thing where once you get past a certain point with her, she becomes a people pleaser. Unlike when Ui’s parents have visited before (seen in TouNemu’s Christmas MGS), Nemu was shocked to hear that her mother and brother had come to see her. This leads me to believe the visits are an extremely rare occurrence and that there is no other contact besides them. Ui’s parents at least video call her, from what the quotes say.

And now we have reached the point where it’s unavoidable and I have to talk about Nemu’s emotional trauma. Her family does not seem to know about her writing, which was a good call because it shielded her from much of the gifted kid trauma. However, that doesn’t mean her parents’ actions (or lack thereof) were without consequence. A lot of these might be subconscious, so bear with me a second. At this point in the timeline, Nemu struggles to believe that others will meet her needs or care for her. She seeks affirmation, acceptance, approval, and fortunately seems to get it in the form of her website and Touka during this era.

Let me give you some examples of Nemu’s people-pleasing tendencies, as any kid would learn that catering to the needs and desires of others can sometimes lead to a sense of belonging or validation—she explicitly wants that, she is aware that she wants to feel loved. This is immensely obvious with her family’s visits, where her first reaction isn’t good but then she plays along and puts up a happier face (which drops literally as soon as her mother and brother are out of the room), even apologizing for the slightest inconvenience regardless of whether or not the reaction to that inconvenience was bad (the book that was hard to find, the general Presence™ of her family in the room, apologizes again for talking about her feelings, etc). So that she doesn’t have to burden them with her feelings. So that her mother can feel like she’s fulfilled her duty by walking into the room, giving Nemu a rundown of what the family has been up to, and leaving without really actually spending any real quality time with her or bothering to really ask about her. Touka gets (righteously) angry in Nemu’s stead once her mother and brother have left precisely because of this. Nemu proceeds to, like many children in her position, defend her parents completely and then chastise herself for “looking down on them”. Touka and Ui both understand at least the heart of the issues at play here, and express as much. My point here isn’t exactly “Nemu’s parents are equivalent to Sana’s” or anything, it’s more that they’re extremely oblivious and their actions (and lack thereof) have hurt Nemu deeply.

That habit Nemu’s parents have of never truly showing interest in their daughter’s life seems to remain after the hospital, and then they’re focused on her brother’s comfort. Not Nemu’s. Never Nemu’s. Then, later on, in the Wings of the Magius, every time someone asks her to make a rumor (read: sacrifice a piece of her life force and make herself feel physically worse presumably forever), she agrees. Mifuyu asks her to, yeah sure. Alina wants a rumor? Of course. I won’t count when everyone asked her for stuff to add to Fendt Hope solely because I’m not sure Fendt Hope works like normal rumors do. Something, something, difficulty setting and maintaining healthy boundaries, struggling to distinguish her own needs from the needs of others…

A child who learned that her voice and desires were not prioritized in such critical stages of her life naturally struggles to articulate her own needs and wants. Prime example, Fendt Hope’s creation. She listens to the others give their ideas for it, never suggesting anything herself after reminding them of her usefulness. Until. Touka asks. When she does, Nemu seems almost taken aback. She apologizes. Nothing comes to mind. That very same day, she gets home, tries again to have some sort of positive interaction or time with her brother, gets rejected. As soon as an alternative form of service (doing the dishes for her exhausted mother so that she may help her brother with homework) presents itself, she practically jumps at the opportunity. The scene after that one, with the way she views Touka, Alina, and Mifuyu, vs the way she views her mother and brother, only makes this more obvious. How is Nemu supposed to feel any sense of value at home? At least as a magical girl, she’s useful. At least as a Magius, she has people who know her. The feelings of low self-worth aren’t as obvious on Nemu as they are on many of the other girls who have them, though.

The next time there’s a Magius meeting, this time to decide on a name for their base, Touka is again the one who asks Nemu for her opinion. It’s important to note that Touka is never once hostile, aggressive, or even annoyed when she does this. She considers Nemu’s thoughts and feelings more than anyone. Heck, Nemu would have no way to doubt Touka’s care for her considering their history and the way she acts.

Now I get to talk about the relationship between Magius Nemu and Magius Touka. If I start gushing incoherently, I apologize in advance. I covered a bit of Magius Touka’s attitude towards Nemu in the essay dedicated to her, and slightly in this one, but now I want to draw attention to how incredibly sweet Touka can be when it comes to Nemu. Nemu desperately needs that reliability and that love Touka provides, the hope she brings. And Touka is the one person who openly shows her care, attention. Over and over again.

Touka considers Nemu an equal. During the main story, as I said in my Magius Touka essay, she shows concern for Nemu’s health and wellbeing when no one else does. This goes beyond her magic-given affliction! I only wish we had more bits and pieces from that era, but as for what we do have… Well, I have to point at Nemu’s swimsuit costume story for the easiest and shortest point of reference. I’d use screenshots, but if I did, I would just end up showing you every single piece of dialogue and expression.

In that costume story, Touka and Nemu are at Fendt Hope, talking about their future trip to the beach (which they made plans for together in Touka’s swimsuit costume story). Nemu has her insecurities, and she’s shy about putting on the swimsuit, but then Touka proceeds to be incredibly supportive by first making her feel comfortable—for some reason she also had her own swimsuit lying around and offered to wear it too because Nemu mentioned it’d be embarrassing if she was the only one wearing a swimsuit and Touka was wearing clothes—then as soon as Nemu expresses self-doubt, she doubles down via genuine compliments (these two compliment each other way more than you think, even in main story Touka praises Nemu for her ideas). This is also a rare occasion where we’re shown that Nemu’s parents, or her mom at least, who seems more present than her dad, mean no harm, since it was Nemu’s mother who helped pick out every element of her swimsuit. After that, Touka goes off to change back into her school uniform, and Nemu is “uncharacteristically giddy” (as she states) looking at herself in the mirror. Touka gets back, and Nemu is startled to have been caught in a vulnerable state, but, critically, Touka is happy to see her happy and doesn’t tease her, although Nemu (jokingly, blushing) laments that letting Touka read her heart is the greatest failure of her life. Nemu asks Touka to listen. And Touka complies. Nemu trusts Touka with her heart, with her honest feelings, and knows Touka will never hurt her. That’s why she’s able to be so sincere with her. This is shown in Nemu’s Tap 8 quote, where she also refers to Touka as trustworthy (Touka has a matching Tap 8 quote, and hers is about how reliable Nemu is for her). This relationship, no matter what it is, is deeply important to both participants.

Finally, to end this glorified rant… I know I used the sun and moon metaphor earlier, but. I would like to borrow the words of Nemu in one of my fics: “It’s silent at night. Touka stays up with her telescope, I stay up reading nearby. We are stardust brought to life. A quiet place, just for us. The gentlest fire in us, like binary stars.” (I’m sorry but the binary stars comparison is too good not to mention). Their connection was there before the Magius, and after everything they went through, their lives became irreversibly bound, intertwined beyond the understanding of quite literally anyone else. They practically always speak in plural, the time they spend together has been on the rise, and at the time of writing? To avoid spoiling Arc 2 Chapter 12, I won’t go into specifics, but the relationship has reached a beautiful point that I will froth at the mouth about eventually.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed the Nemu essay, I went slightly more feral this time so apologies for that. I’ll see how soon the hospital era essay can be thrown into the wild. Nishi out!

Poor Spy can be iffy with affection. There are days he enjoys being able to cuddle up with his partner, and other times, he needs his space. It all really depends on how he's feeling that day. He'll usually let you know when he's having one of those "don't touch me" days. Also no PDA in front of the other mercs. If you guys were in a different area where no one knew you two, then he's a little more open to it. But only little things like hand holding, little kisses here and there, an arm around the waist, that sort of thing

B: Best Friend (What would they be like a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

Good luck trying to befriend this guy. Lots of trust issues. Lots of commitment issues. Cause of his line of work, he can't just be going around befriending people, plus he's kinda an introvert. Finding comfort in being alone with some alcohol and a book. But once you do befriend him, you got yourself such a sassy queen. He's the perfect person to go to if you're looking for some juicy drama, fashion advice, or just someone to BS with. I can see him being such an unintentional mom friend too. Fussing over you while acting like he doesn't want to and has better things to do. He doesn't like showing people that he cares

C: Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

He does like a good cuddle, he really does, but remember, there's times he just can't handle physical contact. He claims that he has to be the big spoon and how dare you wanna spoil him by being the big spoon. But with some determination and patience, you can get him to cave him and let you spoil him. It takes a while cause he's not used to being doted over like that. plz help him

D: Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking & cleaning?)

Spy? Settling down? Such a preposterous thing! Okay, but like, he's never really let such thing come across his mind. He's like Medic in the sense where he's so dedicated to his work. It's all he's ever really known. I'm sure he's thought about settling down when he was actively with Scout's Ma. Cause think about it. He's got a baddie that loves him. He's got a son (and a bunch of step sons). But there's a reason why he wasn't there, there's a reason why he left. Imma get more into it later though.

But as for cooking and cleaning? He's def up there with Engie when it comes to who's the best cook. He just doesn't like having to cook. To go through all that work and mess, and only be made to share with everyone else. He'd rather just go to some fancy restaurant or wait for some merc to make dinner (depends on who's cooking). And he's definitely the cleanest one of all mercs. He can't stand messes. His bedroom and smoking room are in such perfect condition. The only way you can tell that someone was even in the room is from the perpetual smell of cigarettes and a bottle of alcohol/glass that's been moved

E: Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

Due to his commitment issues, it's very hard for Spy to be in a relationship. He's got too much trauma and baggage for anyone (and even himself at times) to handle. Sometimes, he does the right thing and tells the person that he can't do it anymore. Other times, he'll just up and leave, never to be seen again. Yeah, it's a real shitty thing to do, but it's what he feels he has to do. It's easier for him to just disappear and act like he never existed. He doesn't know how to cope with his issues and it shows

F: Fiancé(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

Yeaaah, no. Absolutely not. Never. Marriage is a line Spy doesn't have the strength to cross. Dating is one thing. Marriage is a whole other thing. He could believe he's with his soulmate and still woudn't be able to propose. The thought alone fills him with anxiety. If you wanna be with this man, you gotta understand that he ain't ever gonna pop the question. Not even as an old man on his death bed. The most he can do is get you a pretty ring and let you say that he's your husband, but even that can be a little too muc

G: Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

Spy is a lot more gentle than you think. More so physically than emotionally though. He will love all over you as much as you want. Emotionally, it can be tough. He's a good person to vent your worries to. He does give some real good advice. But if you ever want him to let his walls down and open up, that's gonna be something that would take YEARS to do. He can let little bits of info out, but nothing too big. He's trying though. It's easier for him to hold you and let you spill your worries out to him

H: Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

Hugs are only in private or if he's trying to show that he's better than the person who's trying to win your affections over. His hugs aren't the best? Like, it's basically hugging a chain-smoking skeleton in a suit. I'm also gonna go on a limb and say that he's perpetually cold (cause he ain't got no meat or fat on them bones, ya know) so he'd use hugging you as a way to warm up. You wouldn't let this poor old man freeze to death, would you? Also, homie's got some of the NICEST cologne ever. So yeah, while he's got that constant cigarette smell to him, he also smells divine? I dunno. He's weird like that

I: I Love You (How fast do they say the L-Word?)

Ain't no way in hell this man is saying I love you first. And yet at the same time when you say I love you for the first time, he might cry. Spy might think he's some bad boy who pulls bitches like no other, but deep down, he's just a boy who's been through hell his whole life, never was able to cope with it in a healthy way which led him to down a rabbit hole of essentially made everything worse (I'm trying to not derail this entire post, plz help, I'm struggling) But he will say it. It'll take a while, but it's worth it when he says it. God, he could probably write a whole ass novel on why he loves you

J: Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

I wouldn't say that Spy is a jealous person, more so he just likes being able to woo/seduce you in front of the person who's trying to flirt with you. It fuels his ego. He knows he's better than that pathetic excuse of a person that thinks they could ever be on his level. It's one of those times he gets to be so smug and prideful

K: Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

Oh boy oh boy, does this man know how to kiss. He's got the experience, he's got the skill, he can easily make one little peck on the lips turn to a full make out session. He will leave you breathless. He will leave you wanting more. And he won't stop til he's satisfied, gosh darn it! And I know you ain't gonna stop it. I know that you want this Frenchy, disgusting. (I'm kidding, plz, I luv u, don't leave yet)

L: Little Ones (How are they around kids?)

Now Spy has never really been much of a kid person. Like, he can tolerate kids, but only for so long before he needs to leave the room to recoup from how chaotic kids can be. Now, I'm sure that when Scout's Ma told Spy she was pregnant, he was over the moon with how happy and exciting this news was. And I bet he cried when he held Scout for the first time. I bet you he still has baby pics of Scout hidden in his room he looks at when life isn't going well. But remember, there's a reason why he left. And as he got older, dealing with kids became more of a chore to deal with. He's a mercenary! He doesn't have time to be dealing with kids, he's got a job to do, man!

M: Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

He's GRUMPY in the mornings. He just wants to be left alone til he's ready to deal with everyone. And since he's an old man, he's up early. I... I don't think he sleeps to be honest

N: Night (How are nights spent with them?)

He's got a whole ass night routine he follows every night before bed or he'll kill someone. He tends to stay up late so he tends to not get much sleep at all. He won't cuddle when he first goes to bed, but then if you wake up in the middle of the night, he's all cuddled up with you, refusing to move. It will take a while for him to let you spend the night with him. He doesn't like having to sleep with his Balaclava on. He does get frequent nightmares though so be ready to be there to comfort him

O: Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait awhile to reveal things slowly?)

As I said before, it takes Spy a very long time for him to open up about himself. And even then, he isn't gonna tell you everything. It's just not his thing.

P: Patience (How easily angered are they?)

This is another thing that's weird. Like it's a 50/50 sort of thing, but also depends on the person? When it comes to his partner, he tends to be more lenient with them as compared to someone like Scout or Soldier. I would say he's also good at keeping a level head, unless he's stressed out, then oops

Q: Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every detail in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

Oh honey, this man knows EVERYTHING about you, whether you told him or not. Even the most private things like your family's medical history, he knows it already. Don't question it. As a matter of fact, why are you even questioning it? He's a spy! of course he knows all these little things about you. He never forgets >:(

R: Remember (What is their favourite moment in your relationship?)

It was the moment you let him doll you up for the first time. This man wouldn't stop going on about how he wanted to dress you up and do your makeup (if that's something you're comfortable with). FInally, you gave in and let him. And boy, was he ready. He already knew you're measurements and was so quick to take you to the tailor and fit you in an outfit that costs more than your house. He'd do your hair, nails, makeup, he'd go all out for you and make you look like a GOD (or goddess)

S: Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

He can be rather protective of his partners. He will literally have you living in a luxury house, filled with security, in a country of your choosing if it means to keep you safe. And, man, if you protected him, he'd be at a loss for words. He wouldn't even know what to do. He'd be so confused as to why you would ever wanna protect him? He'd probably get upset and scold you for putting yourself in such a dangerous situation

T: Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, and everyday tasks?)

Homie's going ALL OUT. He loves being able to go all out and show off. You guys will be dressed to the 10's, at a fancy restaurant, eating some of the finest foods, and you sure as hell are getting spoiled with gifts. Every occasion is a chance for Spy to spoil you and show off how perfect you are. Don't fight it, he won't listen

U: Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

He's got a lot of bad habits. He doesn't know how to cope with trauma well. He's definitely someone who has or actively self harms. I'm sorry to say that, but it's just something I can see. Also he chain smokes. He's ALWAYS smoking, never giving himself a break

V: Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

Oh you know he is always concerned about his looks. Even if he's got his Balaclava on, he's still fussing over his appearance. He'll fuss over yours too. He wants you both to constantly look your best. Even a tiny speck of dirt if your cheek is the end of the world for him. He will fuss about it for HOURS

W: Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

Spy is very much used to being alone. He can handle it. He'll miss having you around. You were always his favorite person to complain to. But he's not worried about it. He's a tough cookie

X: Xtra (A random headcanon for them)

Finally, I can say what I've been wanting to say. >:)

I fully believe that Spy is still in love with Scout's Ma. He most definitely is still in communication with her. Helping her out and even coming to see her when he can. That's his baby mama! He can't just abandoned her like he has with every lover he's had. He does still very much care about her, even if it's hard for him to express it and such. He only left so her and the kids could stay safe. Him being there just causes problems. She was the only one who was willing to stay with him no matter what. Even now, with Scout being an adult, she's still around, sending him letters and even gifts.

Yeah, if you couldn't tell, I'm a hard Spy x Scout's Ma defender. Their relationship may not be perfect, but God does it have me in such a chokehold, and I'm not really one for shipping

Y: Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)

Spy don't want no slob. He has very high standards. He doesn't want someone who's sloppy and doesn't take care of themselves (I smell some slight hypocrisy here)

Z: Zzz (What is a sleep habit of theirs?)

Awful sleep schedule. What even is sleep? He stays up late like a youngster, and wakes up early like an old man. I basically said what needs to be said up in the night section, oops

RELATIONSHIP. in the beginning they had a sort of rivalry. during i-land they had a misunderstanding and from then on they were rivals/enemies, but when they realized there was a possibility of them both making it into the group, they sat down and talked out their issues. as of now, heesung takes on a more caring role towards the girl in their day to day life.

the two met before i-land but were never friends, they just knew of each other because of what people told them about each other.

Heeseung was an ace trainee and everyone knew it, including Sage. This intimidated the girl because of how everyone spoke so highly of him.

the only time they hung out was when mutual friends of theirs went out to eat to celebrate passing a monthly evaluation and both were invited.

even then, they only exchanged a few words mostly because they sat at separate tables.

and skip to i-land days, when heeseung saw her enter he knew she was a tough contestant

the older opted to be a friend rather than a foe so he quickly went up to her and started a conversation post-first performance

this convo did not go as he planned

the two had a misunderstanding and Sage mistook Heesung's attempt at befriending her for him trying to sabotage her. their “rivalry” continued for a few more weeks ( a couple of episodes ) before the two realized they might debut together and talked it out

Heeseung reminded Sage of one of her best friends from back in New York and she thinks that was why they grew so close in such a short time.

nowadays Heesung is one of the ones who is very big on making sure Sage is doing alright

being the oldest, even though he doesn’t act it a lot, heesung likes to look after her even more so because she’s the only girl

he knows she doesn’t want to be treated any differently and he tries to adhere to that, but he also understands she has extra stress put on her because she is the only girl

when she's wearing a skirt and the stylists don’t give her a jacket, he'll lend her his && when she has solo promotions, he always calls to make sure she's doing alright

but that’s not to say she doesn’t help him too. she helps to make him feel like a kid again ( him and jungwon but we’ll get into that later )

when they hang out they typically play basketball together, write lyrics, practice/run through the choreography from their songs, and or play video games

sometimes they’ll also go to the gym together as well. the girl likes to tag along with the other members every once and a while ( usually Heesung, Niki, & Jake).

RELATIONSHIP. although they didn’t know each other before the show, when the two first met, sage didn’t really like the boy. she thought he was competition and didn’t want to lose to him at all. so she did everything she could to make sure she ranked higher than him. but as time went on, sage began to notice tiny things about his attitude and they soon developed a friendship which was mainly based on looking out for each other and helping the other.

when Jay was struggling in the show, she was the one who could be seen next to him, teaching him and lifting his spirits. she saw how he continued to grow and learn and would’ve hated to see him waste his talent.

in exchange, Jay would be the one protecting Sage from rude comments and her own temper.

^ whenever the boys on i-land would make any comments about her being a girl or doubting her skills she tended to get riled up and Jay would be the one to calm her down and or defend her

unlike heeseung, who mainly makes sure she's physically okay, Jay is the one who makes sure she is mentally and emotionally okay.

he does a lot of checkups on her because he knows that Sage tends to put up an act a lot of the time to not worry anyone

sage is Jay's official helper/chef. jay likes to cook for everyone else, but sage comes from a family where food is a love language so she likes to give him a break here and there and helps to feed the others.

jay asked sage ( + niki ) to help him with learning japanese and the girl also teaches him bits and pieces of the other languages she knows too

sage also likes to share some recipes she’s learned from her family throughout the years and with these she typically records blogs that she posts on her youtube channel

their favorite activities to do together are cooking, watching movies/shows together, and shopping.

jay also has a habit of shopping for other people when they're out. especially when it comes to sage cause they're very interested in fashion and clothing so he often buys her thing she thinks she'd look good in.

in some of her vlogs/lives sage can be seen shopping for jay and the other boys and she has clothes saved to carts and wish lists she's made in preparation for birthday's and other reasons to give gifts

RELATIONSHIP. these two had became friends quickly on the show due to them being the few who spoke english as a main language as well as sage making jokes and comments in english during their stay at i-land. jake and teagan are the two members who cause the most amount of chaos together and should not be left to their own devices for longer than five minutes. that being said..jake and sage are known for their clumsiness, iconic moments, and their chemistry.

being as though in i-land, they were part of the few who could speak english, they were seen speaking in english with each other almost all the time

the members say that they're always fighting

teagan loves teasing him by joking that he’s such a nerd for liking physics && jake teases sage for her clumsiness and her bad habits

the two are known for their dynamic where they’re able to joke about anything and go for each other’s throat with jokes

as well as them being the main two ( + jay ofc ) who speak english, they make stupid dirty jokes at the worst times

one of their most iconic moments being when the two of them, mid interview, lock eyes and burst into laughter and throughout the whole video they’re just seen whispering back and forth and holding in their laughter.

ALSO- them both being from wealthy families?? even more of a connection

the two of them showing off things they bought on lives and fans blowing up hashtags on twitter about how the items they showed cost like a 1000+ bucks/millions of won

their favorite activities to do together are having movie nights, play goofy sleepover games when they hang out, exploring places in seoul together, playing puzzle games, doing escape rooms, and talking about their doggies!

these two may not have a whole lot to say about their dynamic but don’t take that as them not caring for the other

the clumsy twins. sage known for tripping, even on nothing, and jake for tripping over people and falling into desks

jake is literally whipped for this girl like whaaat

he’ll deny it every chance he gets, but he’s always there to help her and adores her sm

teagan is also a victim of jake’s charms but the two hang out so often she claims she’s immune now

sage was named Layla's official godmother by Jake and he was named Rex’s official godfather by her

SHIP NAME. sunghoon + sage = sage-hoon

RELATIONSHIP. due to training at bighit previously, and both of them taking up ice skating as a hobby, these two already sort of knew each other, but they never really spoke to each other one on one. and when teagan’s eye-catching performance got all 23/24 votes? sunghoon wanted to befriend her even more. and later on, her close relationship with jake helped her and sunghoon bond more. the two treat each other more or less like siblings nowadays.

Segye recognized Hoon mostly for his ice skating days. although she was nowhere near as good or in love with the sport, she did like to stay updated on those around Korea & Sunghoon was included in that.

after realizing that it was him, she quickly struck up a conversation with the boy. this took sunghoon by surprise, being as though she knew him for ice skating, and they had a small conversation about their shared admiration of the sport.

during and after i-land they were known as the opposites attract duo

very much popular x loner energy.

they bring each other's playful/chaotic side out

he isn't one to show much affection physically but Sage knows he supports her through his actions

does Teagan need water? he's already on it. she's stressed because of uni? he has set up her game on her computer in her room.

in exchange, Sage is always there when he needs to vent or just someone to sit with.

during one of their comebacks sunghoon was stressing out and having a rough time so on the one day they were free she asked him to come out with her, he said yes thinking she was going to the movies or shopping, but she actually took him to an ice rink she rented for a couple of hours so he could have some fun

he even ended up teaching her one of his old routines

funnily enough, these two— at least in my head, are the real-life embodiment of todoroki and izuku from bnha.

because like, at first Sage would just talk and sunghoon would just listen. so much so that while on i-land, a lot of people thought he was just tuning her out. and when sunghoon heard one of them say it, he recapped word for word what Sage said and she was gassed for the rest of the week.

their convos are 50% sarcastic

people think sunghoon is completely introverted at first, but Sage is one of the first people he opens up around, revealing his true personality on i-land.

whenever Sage, Jake, and Sunghoon get together prepare for chaos-

long story short, sunghoon is a little shit who cares a lot, but hides it very well.

Y'all, I have been in a whirlwind trying to formulate all my thoughts on this subject into something even mildly coherent. Here it is!

This is my perspective of Eddie and his relationship with physical affection. (A response to my analysis of Buck not being as tactile as the fandom thinks.)

First things first: I excluded Eddie's canon romantic relationships, Christopher, and most patients on calls (you'll see). There's just too much to dissect between those individually, let alone all together.

Okay! Let's go!

Let's start with Eddie's family. Compared to Buck, Eddie has several members of his family who are openly affectionate with him. His Tia Pepa and Abuela in particular. You can tell his comfort level with them at just a glance, how he welcomes their touches and easily shows them affection in return.

The issue comes from his parents. Especially his father.

It's an issue that doesn't even begin a road to recovery until the end of season 5. Compared to the bright, freely given attention he gives his new family, Eddie has a distinctly different reaction to physical contact from his dad.

Distinct from the multiple hugs he gets from Bobby, a developing father figure in his life.

Which says a lot, seeing as all three of these hugs occured within the first year of Eddie's arrival at the 118. (All in Season 2).

It cements that touch and physical affection aren't just important to Eddie, but a major love language for him.

This doesn't mean Eddie is outright affectionate with everyone, or even overly affectionate with the people he loves. It just means that small contacts can be a way for him to express himself. And it's not limited to his team.

Eddie can extend this love language to complete strangers if he relates to them enough. For instance, the marine they met on a Christmas call.

This soldier, fresh from war, saves a fellow passenger on his ride home after the bus crashes. Literally seconds before, Eddie demonstrated the proper way to assess a patient using a flashlight. Yet, Eddie grabs the soldier's shoulder and assesses him by eye.

Why? Because the man already demonstrated his functionality while assisting the team with their patient. The firm grip on his shoulder is to ground him as Eddie asks for his condition.

Learning he's desperate to get to his daughter's recital, the 118 decide to take care of it. On the way there, he focuses on changing out of bloody clothes. However, there's limited space in the firetruck. Eddie inserts himself several times to help (not really). He tugs at his button-down to straighten (?) it, holds his boot as the soldier ties it. Small things that don't make a huge difference but show support for the stranger and his cause. (Adorable.)

Another instance is with Lena Bosko.

The first time they meet, Lena is injured but not entirely inhibited. She walks freely without issue. The reason Eddie is lined against her left is to physically block her injured side from the busy rush of the hospital. So no one bumps her.

As coworkers, they confide in each other and discuss how they work through issues. Lena identifies their shared emotional ties with physicality and suggests fighting as an outlet. Through this, Eddie takes it further and falls into a dark spiral of physical aggression and emotional suppression.

His reflection on street fighting helps him identify when others are struggling with similar issues later. He speaks from experience, and it does help them in the end.

His growth is also reflected after he relapses into physical destruction. And it, again, reveals his love language.

He didn't trust himself to show love. Street fighting revealed how his language could represent the opposite, and he felt it again at the loss of his entire military team.

Buck is the one to put Chris to bed. Eddie keeps his distance, curls himself away, and never reaches out. But he wants comfort. He rocks himself gently, making self-soothing gestures as he rubs his fingers over his skin.

Tragically, as previously discussed, Buck doesn't offer that comfort because Eddie doesn't explicitly indicate that he needs it.

And Buck is such an important person to him.

He will move himself to the front of a crowd just to hug him first. Even if Buck struggles with physical affection, Eddie could identify when Buck truly needed it to get his point across. A point not just about Buck's place in his son's world, but in his.

Eddie rarely initiates direct physical contact anymore and that may be due to Buck's lack of touch from anyone. He's careful, because it could be assumed that Buck doesn't typically want a lot of affection. So, how would Eddie, someone who shows love through touch, approach this?

Hen was shown dragging training dummies along the floors of the firehouse. She's strong. Still, Eddie decided to stay with her under the guise of pulling Buck from under the firetruck when he could have easily went to help lift the monstrosity off of him. But that would mean pulling his hand out of Buck's when it was already holding his so tightly.

Buck knows how to put on a harness by season 4, yet Eddie is there, assisting.

Eddie reaches out - maybe multiple times - to Buck after he's been shot.

And who could miss that small press of his hand to Buck's back while Eddie fights to keep his composure after a call triggers him?

These may seem as more of a comfort for Eddie than Buck, because they are. Eddie finds comfort in being near Buck. Near people he trusts. It's no wonder he started to freak when his hands were restrained after being dosed.

And I know we all laughed at Hen essentially calling out the lack of personal space him and Buck share. But it's important to remember that, yes, he does this with Buck, but he also saw no issue in doing it with Hen. Because he trusts Hen. And it is a show of love that he thought nothing of it to be in the same space. Even if she needed her bubble, which he had no issue in supplying. 😂

TL:DR : While Buck struggles with his perceived inability to show physical affection, it is very much a love language for Eddie. That core difference is shown in how they interact with each other, and the people around them.

King Of Fools

Throughout my analysis of The Owl House, you might have noticed that I have been largely focusing on Luz and co., with Eda sometimes gaining the limelight. With a few exceptions, I have mostly glossed over King's storyline, because it has mostly been comedy relief that plays offhandedly into the themes of the story.

But King is a fascinating character, and a complex one. And even in his previous focus episodes, he has been portrayed as relatively flat. He likes conquest and violence, that's pretty much it. So where did that change?

I would argue that King's character development and complexifying began in Really Small Problems.

Let me explain.

SPOILERS AHEAD

This episode fleshes King out by making him simpler, at least in motivation. Here, King's ambitiousness and world conquering nature shift slightly. We are introduced to a fundamentally petty character, and that's not a bad thing, most of the time. He just wants attention.

Now, pettiness is a focus on the small things in life, and that's what King does. He fixates on the little things and causes problems because of it. You might say that he has Really Small Problems. Maybe.

But there is a negative connotation to the word "petty". It's the reason it gets used as an insult, and that's because there is an obsessive element to it and a selfish element. Not malicious, but problematic, which can sometimes cause conflict.

For an example of why this causes issues, take the antagonist of this episode, one Tibblet-Tibblie Grimm Hammer III (TTGH3, I refuse to call this man "Tibbles"). I think that TTGH3 and King are rather similar characters, and it is this that causes character development in king.

Because King is petty. He is obsessive, and selfish, at the start of the episode. And he doesn't stop being those things at the end of the episode, or even at the end of the series, he just matures. He learns in which situations that selfishness is perfectly fine, and in what situation it isn't.

This episode opens with a quick briefing of King's character. Luz has been talking with friends, and King wants attention, so he makes a fool out of himself, and this reframes his actions in previous episodes. Suddenly the comedic antics become attempts for that same attention, and we see how that causes problems in retrospect.

King's goals have been simplified from conquer and rule the world to "notice me" and the complexity is derived from how that goal, despite being much more achievable, gets brought into conflict with other people.

That is actually a summary of the plot as well. King sees Luz spending time with her friends without him, and he makes a fool out of himself trying to get her back. He gets tricked by TTGH3 into making everyone tiny, and directly causes problems.

The symbolism of that friendship bracelet is rather cool, actually. King values it more than anything else, specifically its exclusivity. But when he realises his mistake, his way of remedying the problem is breaking it, shattering the symbol of his obsession, but also breaking it into more pieces. The same heart can be shared between more people.

I am also ninety percent sure that the carnival setting of this episode just exists for that hall of mirrors so that the metaphor of distorted perceptions could be hammered home.

TTGH3 doesn't learn this lesson at all, because he is a mirror of King (more mirror symbolism). TTGH3 is what happens if King continues on his current path, going against his friends and being possessive over them. Reducing them to items he can keep in a box.

But King's pettiness isn't a bad thing. Not exclusively. He is the perfect foil of Luz, and of Bellos, and of the Collector later on down the line (but we will talk about that when we get there). And that specifically ties into his role as the fool.

History Collection has an article about the history of the fool, and the thing I find fascinating is the duality of the character. This was the only person who could mock the king without losing their head, and served a myriad of roles (including sometimes as an assassin) because they were trusted and underestimated. The fool was an eejit who you didn't need to worry about because they were joking, but they were often the most astute person in the court.

The fool made people laugh, and I think that is important. Laughter is a primarily selfish emotion. You disrupt others because you are enjoying yourself, but it isn't maligned. It is encouraged. King straight up references tropes of being a comedian, a role directly descended from the fool.

If we return to the mirror symbolism, King is a mirror of both Luz and Bellos, but in the opposite ways. Luz enters the story wanting a worldly adventure and to save the world, and she gets those things, but she has to learn that it is the small things that matter just as much. Luz has to learn to see the world the way it is, and King's arc mirrors that, but with how he sees himself.

King begins the story wanting to rule the world, and the single best piece of catharsis in the entire series is a photo on a wall in the last episode depicting King playing catch with Eda. It's ok to want the small things, its ok to not know what you want. And its ok to be a bit selfish sometimes. Sometimes you want to laugh, sometimes you need to do your own thing. But you need to understand where that comes into conflict with others, and you need to understand how to take care of yourself and those others.

Maybe it's not selfish or petty, maybe I'm getting the words wrong (language is weird), but the point still stands.

But King is also a direct foil of Bellos. Starting with the obvious of both referring to themselves with titles, King and Emperor. But the contrast between the two is important. Bellos began his own story thinking on an incredibly small level, to the point where his own obsession over it killed his brother, but then Bellos decided he wanted to rule the world. He sacrificed his family for rulership.

King forsakes ruling for (found) family. As later reveals show him to be a titan, and associated with connection and nature, it would seem that Bellos is in opposition to the Boiling Isles as a whole. Not just practically but ideology.

The fool criticises the king. King criticises the Emperor. Fitting, in a weird way.

Final Thoughts

I like King. Tropes often get a bad rap, but they can be used effectively, and one that I will faun over every time is the comic relief that very suddenly turns dramatic. Like King later on down the line, but also like the finale of God Of War: Ragnarök. If you know, you know.

Musing on Ancient Mugenri History

I've been thinking about this topic recently and there's a lot in my mind, so I thought to write it down before it starts fading lol.

To be clear, this is going to involve a lot of speculation, and not much is gonna be based on concrete proof, which is a rather great departure from what I usually prefer, but hey, speculation is fun every now then~

This is gonna be split into several parts, which I hope makes things neat enough. In any case, let's begin!

The People of Mugenri

Before we look into the general ancient history of Mugenri, let's take a quick look at what the residents of Mugenri could've been like in the distant past.

Canon Information

First, let's start with the history of its population. Here, we look at these this line from A World That Isn't Fantasy — To Mugenri:

Hoojiro "Another world….. A land of a race that broke off from mankind long, long ago."

Haru immediately recognises this as referencing the "Land of Non-humans", which Tsubakura had apparently been looking into prior to being spirited away.

This land is generally accepted to refer to Mugenri, and this is the assumption I will be going off of here as well.

Additionally, let's also take a look at this bit of information from the 2021 Interview with JynX.

Characters (BPoHC) — Question 242 Q: Considering that God is moreso a qualification rather than a species, are Yago and Souko's longevity thanks to their original species rather than their status as a god? Does becoming a god even grant you new abilities? A: They both gained their longevity after becoming gods and were originally human-like.

Interpretation

Putting these two together, I propose the following: Mugenri was initially inhabited by a "primordial race", the very human-like race that Yago and Souko belonged to prior to their ascension to godhood.

Somewhere a long the way, this original race split into "humans" and "non-humans", who once co-existed peacefully but had a fall-out of some sorts.

This lead to the event Hoojiro described, the non-humans "breaking off" from the humans and settling in Mugenri, creating the "Land of Non-humans"

Caveats

There are, I think, 2 major caveats to this idea:

I'm making an assumption that the non-humans "breaking off" from the humans applies to both their evolutionary path as well as the relationship between the two.

There's nothing explicitly connecting the "human-like" race and the modern humans and non-humans.

Mugenri's Ancient History

This is where we get really speculative, as all I really have to go on are these names from BotC Back Issue EE Yabusame's Route - Stage 1:

Gods' Tabooed Land

Garden of Eden

Lost Horizon

Oppressed Land of Exile

It should absolutely be noted NiLU suggests that not all of these names originally referred to Mugenri, but that they only got conflated with Mugenri later down the line.

Nevertheless, they're helpful for taking a glimpse into Mugenri's nature. So, let's try to piece a timeline together using these names.

Step 0. Gods' Tabooed Land

"Tabooed Land" is a concept from Shinto that refers to a location said to be reserved for the gods and within which humans are forbidden, often believed to be where the gods descended to and from earth.

Admittedly, I'm unsure whether this step would be placed here or further down, hence "step 0".

If we were to place this here, this would refer to when the gods first descended to earth and started their work, landing in what would become Mugenri and creating "human-like" beings to inhabit it.

Step 1. Garden of Eden

This of course refers to the biblical paradise mentioned in Abrahamic religions where the first humans Adam and Eve once lived before being exiled by God for eating the forbidden fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

It's a rather safe bet to place as the first stage of Mugenri, as it is where humanity originated. Paralleling, in the case of Len'en, Mugenri being where the human-like primordial race came from.

It would also be during this period that Yago Ametsukana ascended to godhood, and perhaps Souko Shirami as well, though I'm have less proof for that one outside of the two gods' basis sharing a similar time period in the irl myths.

I would guess that somewhere along the way, whether they have already speciated into human and non-humans aside, the original inhabitants of Mugenri got themselves exiled from Mugenri.

Fondly remembering the paradisical life they used to lead in Mugenri, and lamenting its lost, the land eventually became known as, or equated with, the name "Garden of Eden".

Side Note — Yago's Ascension You might be curious as to why I'm so sure that Yago's ascension is so likely to have taken place in this stage, even specifically before the residents got exiled. This comes from a spell card of theirs, Sword Shot "The Cherubim and the Whirling Sword of Flame". This spell references what the Abrahamic God sent to guard the Garden of Eden after Adam and Eve's exile. Thus, Yago having this spell card quite heavily suggests that it was the Ametsukana who forged the "whirling sword of flame" and sent it with the cherubim to guard the garden.

Step 2A. Lost Horizon

Lost Horizon is a 1933 novel by English writer James Hilton, famous for being the origin of Shangri-La, a fictional utopian lamasery.

Having been banished from Mugenri, and as the time passed, it's not beyond belief that the people (especially the humans) would've forgotten where Mugenri was once located, rending a truly lost location from their perspective.

It is also during this phase, I would guess, that the two categories of humans and non-humans must have came to be, no later than this. Explanation to come later.

Step 2B. Gods' Tabooed Land

Yep, the "Gods' Tabooed Land" returns once again. For those who did not forget Mugenri, where it was and its history; or perhaps from the gods' own perspective, Mugenri isn't "lost" at all, it's right there!

Instead, these people would've understood Mugenri as a place now exclusively belonging to the gods, and where humans especially are not allowed to enter.

(After all, while the line between human and god is fairly clear, that between youkai and god is often less so.)

Step 3. Oppressed Land of Exile

Unlike the other names, this one doesn't seem to be a reference of any sort, but is just a simple description of the land.

It is during this time period that I propose the "breaking off" between humans and non-humans must've occurred. For whatever reason, the two races were no longer able to peacefully co-exist.

This lead to the non-humans returning to Mugenri (like I mentioned, it's a lot more likely for them to know where it is after all this time). There, they either locked themselves within to cut all possible contact with the humans or they got locked within by the humans.

Having been exiled from the outside world, the inhabitants of Mugenri started a new era of their lives, adopting the Ruri calendar. "Ruri" meaning "exile", further strengthening this idea.

Side Note I've been using "Mugenri" to refer to this location this entire time, but it only makes sense to assume that this name isn't always what it was called. In fact, I think it's rather likely that it was only used after the barrier was created and a separate world formed. Here, I'll use "Ruri Mugenri", named after its Ruri calendar, to denote specifically the Mugenri as we know it now, separated from the outside by the barrier.

The "exiled non-humans" theory does raise a curious question though: Why are there also humans in Ruri Mugenri?

Of course, this could be explained simply by the fact that humans occasionally wander into Mugenri, but I get the impression that humans have always been in the Ruri Mugenri from the very beginning.

There are, in my opinion, three ways we can explain this:

These early humans were sympathizers to the non-humans, and in solidarity joined them in their self-imposed exile.

These early humans were those who sacrificed their own freedom to forever trap the non-humans in Mugenri.

These early humans were not interested in the race conflict, but was simply hoping to start anew or escape the outside world.

Personally, I would imagine that all these cases could be found, though I'd like to focus on the 2nd option. Because this, I believe, is the origin of the Senri Shrine.

We know that the 1st Senri priest was among those who created the Mugenri Barrier, and considering their successor, Tsurubami Senri's, stance towards youkai, it's not hard to see how I came to this conclusion.

Additionally, this also answers the question of whether the non-humans willingly shut themselves in Mugenri or were trapped in there by the humans.

This idea is somewhat supported by this from the 2021 Interview with JynX:

Mugenri — Question 86 Q: Can you think of Mugenri as a trap or prison, maybe a birdcage? Why else would it be so easy to get in but extremely difficult to get out? A: Something like that. The details are secret~.

Unhelpful JynX aside (lol), they did agree, to some extent, that Mugenri is a trap or a prison, further strengthening the idea that the non-humans aren't exactly willing participants.

The Human/Non-human Conflict

Finally, let's take a quick look at what could've caused this conflict between the two sides in the first place. I have a few theories, so let's go into that here.

First off, there's always the good old human fear of the unknown and the different, the easiest and most typical explanation for these situations and plots.

Perhaps the humans gradually grew more and more intolerant of the non-humans, and eventually took to taking up arms against them, leading to this conflict.

Of course, it's frankly hard to believe that these primeval humans would've been able to fight against the myriad of youkai and other non-humans all by themselves.

Here I suggest that the humans weren't alone, but were instead supported by a certain subset of gods. To see where this idea comes from, let's revisit A World That Isn't Fantasy, this time looking at Alice Leaping Atop Lily Pad Ice.

Hoojiro "Have you ever heard of it? The story of the imperial family and the Earthly Gods buried by history's darkness."

This is, at first glance, seemingly just a throwaway line. Hoojiro brings it up out of nowhere, and Haru quickly brushes her aside.

But even ignoring why Hoojiro brought it up, from an out-of-universe perspective, this line is far too loaded to be nothing, especially from a writer like JynX.

From an in-universe perspective, Hoojiro then follows this up with the talk on the Land of Non-humans in the next section, To Mugenri. This, to me at least, seems to hint that these two must be related somehow.

After all, Tsubakura was looking into the Land of Non-humans, and Hoojiro would've certainly had a good idea of everything they looked into and found.

So! Let's try to figure out what this is about.

First off, I'll tell you right now that this is referring to the mythologised telling of how the Yamato dynasty of Japan came to rule over these islands.

See the imperial family of Japan, according to their mythology, is descendant from Amaterasu Ōmikami, a sun goddess. She is what is considered a "heavenly god" (天津神 amatsukami), gods belonging to or originating from the heavenly realm of Takamagahara.

The counterpart to these heavenly gods are thus the "earthly gods" (国津神 kunitsukami), the native gods of the earth. They were the original rulers of the land (Japan), and it was through both diplomacy and force that the heavenly gods got the earthly gods to relinquish control of the earth to them.

This, I am certain, is the "story of the imperial family and the Earthly Gods", Hoojiro refers to. And I have a feeling that this is what caused the relationship between the humans and non-humans to sour.

Basing it on the myths, it would appear that the heavenly gods chose, for whatever reason, to side with the humans in the conflict, allowing them claim the world as their own.

Having identified the heavenly gods with the humans, this would leave the earthly gods with the non-humans, neither of whom fared very well in this exchange, and were forced to submit before the heavenly gods and their humans.

Thus the losers of this conflict, the earthly gods and non-humans, were "exiled" from the known world, put into an almost mirror-dimension-like plane of existence, their only way back out into the greater world through the outside, the Land of the Humans.

Note — Too Harsh on the Humans? History is written by the victors, or in this case, the imprisoned losers. All the sources we have so far are fairly Ruri Mugenri-centric, even those from outside. There is every chance that the humans were somewhat justified in their attack on the non-humans at first, perhaps the non-humans first took over and oppressed them, much like how the earthly gods were the original rulers of Japan. If this were true, that it'd be rather easy to see why the heavenly gods sided with the humans, perhaps out of pity, or a desire to use them to eliminate a common enemy.

Ending

Phew! That was a lot, wasn't it?

But this indeed concludes my thoughts on what the hypothetical ancient history of the land of Mugenri might be like, from it's initial inception to the establishment of Ruri Mugenri.

Like I mentioned at the beginning, a lot more guesswork and speculation this time, so its canonicity is very doubtful. Still, I think it's at least plausible.

Thinking about the emotional rollercoaster that is Hunter and Jasper's newfound developing relationship after Jasper's no longer dying of infection and everything's come to light. Hunter now knows the truth, but can he HANDLE the truth? He was already having, like, seven ongoing crises, and now he has THIS on top of them. He's just learned about a dozen new things he gets to be angry over!

Your approach to writing Hunter's trauma recovery has always been very raw. I like a good saccharine hurt/comfort fic as much as the next person, but I really appreciate the raw approach, too. Recovery isn't perfect, it can be ugly and uncomfortable and painful, and you've never shied away from that. So I'm thinking of a still-reeling-from-Hollow-Mind Hunter, freshly dumped in another dimension with his weirdo stalker who turns out to be the father he'd just gotten used to thinking never existed, and I'm looking over at Agony!Hunter and Lament!Hunter for comparison and wincing.

I commented on another post about how I feel like Hunter would WILDLY vacillate between "you should've just kidnapped me by force!" and "yeah I was definitely super brainwashed and would've run back to tell Belos everything first chance I got" for the first…however long it takes for him to come to terms with this. But I can also see him lashing out at Jasper, like, here's some of the awful things Belos did to me, I hope that telling you about them makes you hurt because I feel like you abandoned me and I'm angry. But then that eventually goes in the complete opposite direction, like, I'm not going to tell you about what horrible memory gave me nightmares tonight even though I'd feel better if I did, because I know you love me and you were trying your best and you've been hurting every day for 16 years while you tried to get me back, and I don't want to hurt you more.

Jasper just…trying to get his kid to talk to him if he needs to. Probably at some point when Hunter's clammed up Jasper has to open up a bit himself like, look, nothing you could say is going to surprise me, that man gave me more opportunities to look at my insides than I want to remember; I'll be angry and sad about what you went through, but I've spent 16 years thinking about what he might have been doing to you and trust me, nothing you say is going to send me into a horrified shock response. Maybe he's reluctant to talk about his own experiences much because 1) Remembering sucks, and 2) He doesn't want Hunter thinking he's trying to upstage his pain, but like…they have adjacent trauma from the same abuser, they're gonna understand each other on a wavelength most other people won't get.

I do feel at the very least though Jasper would nip whatever personhood-related crisis Hunter might be having in the bud. Nope, nope, none of that; it took me 12 years to figure out I was a real person with feelings, and I didn't bargain with Belos to convince him to allow you the privilege of thinking you're a person just for you to start questioning it because you found out you're part vegetable. You've got 16 years experience of believing you're a person, that's a fantastic foundation that you should NOT take a sledgehammer to. Are we real people? We damn well BETTER be after all the work I put into figuring out emotions! Maybe this is like, the one thing Jasper really puts his foot down on. He's fine if Hunter's angry at him or if Hunter never forgives him or whatever, but he absolutely draws the line at Hunter thinking he might not be a real person.

Probably doesn't help that the whole situation is likely compounded by Hunter's guilt that oh, all his friends had to leave their family behind and are super worried about them, and he just GOT his dad back but he can't even be grateful about it?? What kind of horrible person is he??

And later on, when they've progressed past the worst of the anger, and Hunter has realized that yeah, he really does want a relationship with his dad. Then his issues of self-worth and believing love is conditional come into play.

I'm imagining some point where they're having a quiet conversation, maybe on the couch late at night. Maybe it started with Hunter asking why - why did you even care, why were you so willing to die for me when you barely knew me for two minutes. And Jasper is like I don't know, I just did, but that's not good enough for Hunter so he keeps talking. He talks about growing Hunter, all the work he put in and the attention to detail, about how excited he was, how he'd quietly talk to the planter box and spill out what he was only starting to realize were real feelings, about how he'd put his finger in Hunter's little palm and feel his heart stutter when his hand closed around it.

And Hunter listens to all of this in silence, watches Jasper smiling at the memories while he speaks, and he starts thinking about himself. About how he's never been able to maintain Belos's approval, how he's never been able to impress the coven heads, how he's just a half-a-witch who's never been anywhere near as powerful as Jasper is, how he's never been able to beat the Martlet in combat, how he's got so many punishment scars, how he's been such an awful, ungrateful brat these last few weeks to this man who loves him so much; love is conditional and Hunter has done nothing to earn Jasper's love and he probably needs to figure out how to fix that before he loses what seems to be a good thing, except his failures are many and his debt to Jasper is enormous and there is absolutely no way he will ever be able to impress or repay this man.

Jasper is still smiling into the middle distance as he says something about how badly he wanted to meet Hunter and how curious he was about what kind of person he'd be when he emerged.

Hunter feels a rock sink in his stomach, and very quietly says, "Sorry for the disappointment."

And Jasper blinks and looks down at Hunter, pure confusion on his face, and asks, "Why would I be disappointed?"

jasper completely blindsided by this. he doesn't have the proper experience with hunter's self worth issues yet to expect stuff like this, its just fully like. what?? disappointed??? when did i say that?? did i make it sound like that??? shit im doing a really bad job at this i guess. but also like. disappointed?? how could i ever be disappointed? you're alive! you have friends! I'm so happy! this is everything i ever wanted! and hunter is like no, i mean, disappointed by me and what i turned out like, i'm not nearly as brave or loyal as you, im a coward. and jasper is just floored. like ???? no! you are so smart and creative and kind and you are brave! what are you talking about??? you're a great kid! cue hunter bursting into tears

ok but pjo au where the demigods slowly start gaining more powers and not all of them are tied to their parents

and maybe they don’t realize it at first. maybe the gods realize it before them and get scared. maybe none of them realize it at all for a while. but the demigods are out there. they’re traveling the world. they’re doing shit. and stories are spreading and social media is launching a whole bunch of shit and slowly the gods start losing their power and the demigods start gaining new ones

maybe annabeth leaves to go scout something out during capture the flag, and completely fades from sight as she does. it’s such a normal thing to them that nobody thinks to question it, they hardly even remember that her yankee cap is still stuffed in her backpack in cabin six from their last terrifying adventure. maybe percy loses the curse of achilles but the thing about amnesia is he kind of forgot he even had it in the first place, and nothing anyone does to him really seems to hurt him still, so everyone who knew he had it kind of just... assumes he still does when they see him again. they forget that he is of the deep sea, or maybe once was, or will be, and to be someone who lives and breathes and walks on the surface of the earth with no issues and still be able to survive in the depths, under such immense pressure, his skin is made of stuff stronger than the styx can conjure, and if it wasn’t then, it is now. maybe piper’s starting to see things now, visions of what once were there, or might have been, or will be, beyond when she’s looking in the knife, beyond the normal demigod dreams, not quite prophetic like rachel. it’s more like she suddenly has access to all the possibilities, and that is a very different, very dangerous thing, and she doesn’t know how to swallow it.

because what gives them power is belief, right? and people are starting to believe in them. they’re starting to talk about them, and give them names and domains and stories and offerings

maybe prophecies are a lot more opportunities than they let on. maybe every quest for the gods is a path of mortals they leave a little better than they find them, carved across continents. maybe a couple of kids get lost in the woods for weeks and weeks and just when people are starting to give up hope of finding them, a group of teen girls lead them out from the tree line, silver jackets thrown over their quaking shoulders, before disappearing into the ether. maybe someone’s car breaks down, and it’s the middle of winter and they don’t know how to fix it and they don’t have the time or money to take it into a mechanic, and they’re starting to panic because they need this car, and then this kid they saw at the soup kitchen earlier shows up out of nowhere, and they assumed the kid was there with family but they’re not, they’re here all alone, they say they’re new in town and not planning to stay for long, and when the kid asks why they’re still here and the person explains the situation to them, this kid just grins. easy, no problem, just give me a bit. and they say they can’t pay them and the kid just laughs it off, and an hour later they’re five bucks lighter because they bought the kid a sandwich and water from the corner store, and their car is in better condition than they bought it in, can go twice the distance on half the gas, and the kid bounces before they can even ask what their name is or dig out their phone to call child services and what do you mean their car can fly now. maybe a little girl is terrified because her parents aren’t home yet, and she has a new babysitter, has for three weeks now, but everyone else says she’s the same lady as before, that they’ve known each other for ages, but she keeps looking and looking and looking at the thing that smiles with too many teeth, that laughs a beat too long, that doesn’t know how she likes her sandwiches cut, that parts its hair on the wrong side, and she knows that this is not her babysitter. it’s not hurting her, because she has two flesh and blood bio parents even if they have to work a lot, it’s not doing anything, but her babysitter is missing and no one believes her. and then this guy who kind of looks like her older cousin (but not how her not-babysitter kind of looks like her babysitter) hears her talking to herself about it in the corner of the playground and puts a hand on her shoulder and promises that it’ll be alright. and then her not-babysitter is gone and no one talks about her anymore, but they aren’t insisting that nothing’s changed this time, either, and the new babysitter looks very, very different and doesn’t pretend to be something they’re not.

...and so on and so forth. and these not-gods are something real and tangible and are actually helping people in a very real and impactful way even if those people might not exactly see the full gamut of what they’re doing because ~mist~. and that spreads, and leads to more stories, and more belief, and more than all of that, it even gets them something they never asked for, something like devotion.

and they’re not gods, not really, like the gods aren’t titans and the gods aren’t primordials. they’re something else. maybe a step down, maybe one or two to the left, but... close enough, really.

idk just. the demigods getting to have a little bit of otherworldly power their parents aren’t directly responsible and some eldritch confusion. as a treat.

heyy! could i ask for some headcanons of tfa ratchet (+sentinel, if you can please) dating an ftm human that has a lot of dysphoria concerning their (reader's) face? it'd mean a lot, thank you for your writing -💫

Warnings: Dysphoria (Face), Reader Dysphoria, Negative Self Image, Negative Thoughts, Trans Reader, FTM Reader, Awkward Reassurance (Ratchet), Misplaced Compliments (Sentinel)

Ratchet:

Ratchet doesn’t understand the human emphasis on gender, he really doesn’t. Cybertronians have a looser definition of gender, partly because they aren’t organic. At least that’s his running theory. That’s one of the reasons why he doesn’t see it as a big deal when you come out to him. Ratchet might be gruff but he knows that this is important and will support you 100% of the way.

It takes him a little while to realize that you don’t like looking at your face. At first he thinks it’s just mirrors in general but over time he sees that it’s specially your face. Bumblebee takes a prank too far and you look so shocked and ashamed that Ratchet has to scold the bot to the moon and back. He checks in on you afterwards to see how you’re doing and you confess that looking at your face makes you really dysphoric.

Ratchet listens to everything that you tell him without interrupting, letting you vent and talk through things that have clearly been bothering you for a while. He does step in if you start saying negative things about yourself; you’re his favorite person after all and he won’t stand for it. He’s going to do a lot of research into trans issues after this, both from a professional and personal curiosity. He wants to do what he can to help.

He starts gifting you different types of shirts and hats, experimenting to see which help define your face the way you want to. He’s not the best at fashion but he’s a gay old mech; he gets it. It can be a little embarrassing to have him giving you all these things but it comes from a place of love. Ratchet also makes a habit of complimenting something on your face but not your face itself. He’ll tell you he loves your eyebrows or nose, how your chin looks well defined. These are all private admissions but they mean a lot. The bots learn quickly that if they have any comments about your transness to keep it to themselves; Ratchet has no issue taking someone out back for a ‘training exercise’. He might be old but he has a few tricks up his sleeve.

Sentinel:

Sentinel takes a bit to admit to himself that he loves a human, let alone learning about human culture and nuance. He’s not completely oblivious but he does start paying attention to Jazz more as he talks about Earth and humans. Jazz doesn’t say anything and if he starts talking about your likes and interests more, both would deny it. Sentinel does his own research but it never seems to go as deep as he’d like. When you come out to him, he plays it cool but it mentally taking furious notes so he can look things up later.

As self-centered as he is, that attention also includes you. Sentinel considers you a ‘part of himself’ (both cute and weird) and so he’s always complimenting and praising you. No one is as much of a hype mech as Sentinel, even when you think it might not be the best time. He takes quick notice that you get uncomfortable with compliments to your face and it has him leaning in a little more.

You have to sit down with him and explain that you feel dysphoric for him to back off. He never intents to upset you so if you truly don’t want him making any comments he’ll shut up. All he wants to do is let you know he loves you and the easiest way for him to do that is verbally. Sentinel never thinks that his compliments are over the top but does get embarrassed if people call him out on being lovey dovey (just in case you want some payback). The two of you create clear boundaries on compliments and never once does he cross the line.

Sentinel will push, however, because he does think it helps. He’ll make comments about how your jaw line matches his or he loves to look at you. He also makes a habit of kissing your cheek or part of your face when you’re close by. At first it starts off as a cute way to shower you with affection and silently compliment your face but it soon becomes habit. He nearly gives everyone a spark attack the first time he does it in front of a group but he loves the way you can get embarrassed; it’s an ego boost. Woah the person who tries to be an asshole to you; tries because the moment someone starts to say something he’s all over them. Sentinel has a biting glossia and no one is safe from his wrath if they mess with you. It’s like having a cute, giant metal guard dog. And he loves tummy scratches.

ok so imagine nico wakes up suddenly and realizes the whole ToA jason dying thing was a bad dream and it's still only just shortly after the end of BoO. he shadowtravels straight to jason's cabin in a half-asleep panic just to be sure and jason has to talk him down all "woah it's ok i'm right here see??" and just sits up helping him calm down until nico passes back out again and jason just lets him sleep there because one does not wake up nico di angelo while he's getting some much-needed sleep.

when nico wakes up he's mortified that he fell asleep in jason's bed but he's got his head on straight now and genuinely worried because it could have just been a random extremely realistic nightmare, but demigod dreams can be Special so what if that was like a prophetic dream or something?? he talks it out with jason and gives him all the details of everything that was going on in the dream and jason's just trying to soothe him like "well i'm still dating piper and you're not dating will solace so clearly it's not actually reflective of reality right" and that helps nico relax somewhat.

except will keeps aggressively befriending nico and nico's convincing himself it's just platonic, until will actually does ask nico out and nico pretty much runs away immediately because OH NO. he goes to find jason and drags him back to the hades cabin immediately to talk because now he's worried that the dream really was prophetic and he doesn't want to risk dating will because maybe if things are different it won't happen?? jason feels extremely bad about that and tries to convince him it's ok, he shouldn't have to deny himself a possible relationship because of a bad dream, it was probably just him subconsciously picking up on will being into him and translating that into dream content. and after a lot of back and forth nico says that he doesn't even know if he actually likes will like that anyway. jason presses it all "well would you have said yes if not for this nightmare?" and nico admits that he doesn't know, he knows will is attractive and nice and all that so he should like him and what are the chances of anyone else ever liking someone like him anyway??? to which jason of course takes issue with that and insists this isn't his only chance at love and he shouldn't force himself to do anything because he thinks no one else will ever want to date him.

(and maybe nico trying to make a point like "would you?" thinking it'll make jason rethink his endless support, except jason doesn't even hesitate before agreeing because of course, who wouldn't?? nico's great, anyone who actually knows him would appreciate that. and it gets nico a lil flustered but he brushes it off as just more supportive friend nonsense that means nothing because jason is taken anyway).

they end up talking late into the night and jason ends up dozing off in the hades cabin so shoe's on the other foot now motherfucker. nico doesn't have the heart to wake him and all that, sleepovers are just becoming their thing now apparently. which would be fine, except the next morning while they're getting up there's a knock at the door and nico answers it to find will there, come to make sure nico was ok after he ran off like that and wanting to apologize if he crossed a line or something. except he sees jason over nico's shoulder still sitting in bed all sleep-disheveled and he's like. oh. i gotta go.

(and will heads straight to piper like "hey i'm not trying to start drama and maybe y'all have a open relationship or something, i'm not judging, but i think jason might be hooking up with nico and i'd feel like an asshole if i found out someone was being cheated on and didn't tell them???" to which piper is kinda bemused but mostly laughs it off because she knows jason's a good dude who wouldn't do that, she gets a bit jealous sometimes of other people clearly being into him but it's never about not trusting jason himself. she does ask him about it later, though, and jason's honest about having sleepovers with nico sometimes since hey they're friends and it seems to help nico sleep too? but he doesn't share the details of the prophetic dream shit, that's nico's business even if it might involve him personally. regardless, everything seems ok on the jason/piper front.)

nico does eventually go to talk to will because he feels bad about how he handled shit and will really is a nice guy. he admits he doesn't really feel the same and isn't really ready for any kind of relationship at all, maybe confides in will a bit about having only just recently kinda come to terms with his sexuality and started telling people and all that. and will accepts it easily since the whole running off thing and still being unsure about the jason thing had him feeling uncertain about his crush anyway. everything's cool, they can still be friends, and nico is mildly comforted thinking he has changed the future just in case that dream really was prophetic.
