Bitey-face is a dog game you’ve probably seen and may love: lots of loud open-mouthed posturing and maybe some wrassling. I now invite you join me in experiencing bitey-face a la sloth bears. I grabbed these photos yesterday at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle and lost my shit laughing when I saw how they’d turned out. (Open them fullscreen and zoom in on their facial expressions, it’s so worth it.)
I just cannot get over the excessively extra lips.
The fun thing about watching these two play was the clear use of the log to diffuse tension / reduce physical contact. They purposefully set up on either side of it to posture at each other, and then would circle around and wrestle for a bit, before going right back to their original spots.
Shameless plug, I’ll be posting these and a bunch more on my insta.
HELLO!!!!! I was inspired by my love of bears (and my very good friend Barley over at @bovineblogger ) to make a bear blog! Where I shall rate bears!! Yippee! Feel free to join in and follow along while we rate ALL the bears! Ever!
(Info and disclaimers below the cut)
Profile Picture was commissioned from my lovely friend @catella-ars !!
I do not own any of the bear pictures, images, or videos unless otherwise specified.
I am not here to step on anyone toes, I just want to have a good time with my favorite guys (bears)
Sloth bears have a curious nature. Films have shown them head down, rooting around the forest floor looking for ants and termites, so singularly focused on dinner that they don't notice a nearby tiger. But generally, nothing escapes their attention. At the Bannerghatta Bear Rescue Centre, Suvarna, Cupid, Swapna, Mahi and Gomathi bear were very interested in what Wildlife SOS photographer Lenu Kannan had for them.
Todays bear of the day is............. The Sloth Bear!!!
sometimes called the Indian bear, this bear comes from, you guessed it, India!! these bad boys have a mostly fruit and insect based diet, eating lots of ants and termites! their snout is like that to help them vacuum up insects actually! so they could be considered more alike an anteater than a sloth! especially because these guys are MEAN
they have an insanely violent and aggressive disposition! they can outrun humans and can and Will attack them. these guys are Not to be messed with, at all. i would rather run into a polar bear than a sloth bear. they view humans as predators and will attack unprovoked, generally leaving victims horribly mangled and scarred.
one thing that is neat is that these guys can actually co-habitate with sun and moon bears pretty easily! they arent hostile towards each other, and can live comfortably in habitats together! this is likely since their behaviors and dietary preferences are so different!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5!!! stay away from them...... Admire from Afar....
