Rain picks his skin both on purpose and without realising. When he's stressed he'll stare in the mirror, face merely centimetres away from it, and look for any bump, spot or piece of dry skin that he could pick off. Even when he's concentrating, if he has a free hand, he'll sit and run his fingers over his face, back, arms, stomach, and legs, scratching at any 'imperfection' he finds. His whole body is covered in little scars from where he's picked his skin raw, and even though he thinks it's a sign he should stop, he physically cannot. Everyone is very aware of when Rain's been picking at his skin and will try to find ways to distract him. Copia is by far the most creative. He'll get a bunch of pens from his office, dismantle them all, and ask if Rain can put them back together, pretending that he's in a hurry and needs them urgently. Aether has given him creams to try to lighten the scars a bit after Rain complained about the ones on his face. Rain also cuts his nails extremely short to prevent him from picking so much but he usually caves and finds something to scratch the bumps off with. He isn't too distressed by his scars or the fact he picks his skin, he just wished he could have more control over what he does.

i just want to say to all my bfrb babes that ellie loves and helping in any way she can.

- if she notices that you're about to pick, she'll take her hands in yours and try to distract you from the urge.

- if you're the type of person that needs to get things off your chest, she'll listen to you so very attentively until the feeling doesn't feel as intense anymore.

- and if you're not:

she'll either talk your ear off about the latest comics she's reading or anything that comes to mind. i know she's less talkative in the second game but i fully believe that she'd be as conversational as she could in situations like this.

- if you have trichotillomania (projecting! :3) she'll make sure you don't feel AS insecure about your bald spots or your scabs. girlie is a GOD at making eye contact but i feel like she would do it more often as a subtle way of letting you know that she's not disgusted by your lack of lashes/eyebrows. don't know if this is too ooc but i want this woman to caress my baldspots.

- onto skin picking! she'll definitely help you out with tasks that involve your hands if it's mainly revolving around your fingers. she'll clean your scabs for you whether you can do it yourself or not.

- i feel like she wouldn't quite understand the fact that bfrb's are a REPETITIVE DISORDER and they're quite hard to stop so i feel like she would get mad at herself if you relapsed and blame herself for a while but she'd never get mad at you.

if you have a skin picking disorder i cannot recommend enough carrying around bandaids with you at virtually all times. also suggest getting some pain relieving antibiotic ointment for certain wounds

howdy! autistic lady here! i have a question for you but if you dont have an answer, thats cool too! uhhh so one of the ways i stim is by picking at my skin, but it's gotten so bad that im getting really nasty infections and stuff. (i know. that's gross. sorry) Like anytime my hands aren't doing anything, they end up picking at my skin pretty much without me telling them to. do you have any advice? :]

Oh no that's painful! I struggle with this as well. I haven't found a full solution, but having a fidget to divert your attention to when you realise what you're doing can help. There are also fidgets that emulate the feeling of picking called pick palettes or picking stones which I've heard are good, although I haven't tried them myself.

It might also help to cover the skin you've already picked at with your clothes or a bandage to protect it and let it heal before it can get infected.

I know it takes a lot of willpower to make yourself stop and fiddle with something else, but hopefully the more you do it the more you can break the habit.

According to the DSM, most people with excoriation disorder usually don't skin pick in front of others except for immediate family members, which was personally surprising to me since all my life I have skin picked in public. Wanted to see how applicable this was, so here's a poll!
