Let The Light In: Part 2
Tumblr media
Part 1 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5
Words: 1,598
Pairing: Paige Bueckers/Media Manager! Reader
Warnings: Angst, Friends to enemies to lovers (but the reader doesn’t know why they’re enemies), reader is actually so in the wrong, slow burn.
“Is that Paige Bueckers?” The guy sitting next to you nudges your elbow, his eyes glued to your computer screen.
He didn’t need to ask you to confirm that it was her, given the massive ‘5’ on her jersey and those unmistakable blonde braids. But you indulge him anyways, turning back to the screen of your laptop as if you need to double check who’s picture you’re editing, before giving him an affirmative hum and re-focusing your attention on the exposure curve that’s been giving you trouble all morning.
Seemingly unbothered by your lackluster reply, he leans closer, letting out a sharp whistle as he gets a better view. “Damn, that’s good. You take it?”
“All mine.” You reply hastily, reaching over to pat the camera bag next to you.
“Are you on the media team or something then?”
You just nod, casting a quick glance in his direction while his eyes stays fixated on the image of the girl on your screen until you swear you can see drool forming in the corners of his mouth.
“You know this should go up on the posters they have around campus” he says, finally leaning back into his chair.
It’s almost like he knows that stroking your ego is surefire way to get you to soften up.
You turn to him, a hint of a smile playing on your lips. “If you think that you should go check them out next week. There might be a few changes you'll like.”
An impressed look passes briefly over his face before returning to a cocky smirk. “You know, you’re doing her a favor. She looks way hotter in this than the ones that are up right now.”
Guard all the way back up, you turn to him, doing very little to hide your disgust. Without a word, you scoop up your belongings and move to another spot, eager to distance yourself far, far away from him.
Your new spot is near a window, which you’d normally avoid since you need to see your computer screen clearly while editing, and sunlight wouldn’t help with that. However, when a blonde woman walked by, hand in hand with her toddler who was clearly fighting off sleep with a blankie draped over her shoulders, you couldn't resist the urge to get as closer to the all-too-familiar scene.
----
"Hey, you awake?” Paige's voice is barely audible over the soothing hum of the air conditioner. You’re half asleep, nestled comfortably beneath the blankets, and all you can manage is a low, affirmative hum in response.
"I can't sleep," she whispers again, this time poking your cheek to ensure you’re paying attention.
"Count sheep.”
A loud groan echoes through the bedroom as Paige turns over to face you.
“We should do something."
You pretend not to hear her, keeping your eyes shut.
“Wake up, wake up, wake up” she intones, pulling the covers off your chest as she sits up in the bed.
"Let's go for a drive."
You peek one eye open, glaring at her. "Paige I love you but, please, for the love of God, just let me sleep." She keeps her mouth shut, but you can feel her gaze on you as you pull the covers back over yourself.
After two blissful minutes of silence, a soft "please" brings you back to consciousness. Opening your eyes fully now, you stare at her.
"Paige, I'm really tired."
"I'll let you have the aux, and you can bring your blanket," she offers, nudging your shoulder gently, trying to coax you out of bed.
With narrowed eyes, you meet her gaze, her face is illuminated by the moonlight streaming through your open blinds. With just that one glance, any remaining sibilance of a resolve is shattered.
"An hour tops, and if I fall asleep again, you can't wake me up until we're home."
A soft smile crosses her face. "Deal."
Before you really know what’s happening Paige has an arm wrapped around you, practically skipping as she drags you, half asleep and wrapped in a quilt, through the parking lot to her car. She turns your seat heater on, connects your phone to the speakers, and lets you choose a playlist before pulling out onto the main road, interlocking your fingers, and letting your hands rest on the center console.
"Dude, come on, really?" she groans as your sleep playlist begins and the sounds of an artificial rainstorm flood the car.
"I'm going back to sleep," Is all you can manage to say in your fatigued state, leaning your head against the window and shutting your eyes once again.
You don’t wake up again until sunlight has begun to shine through the trees lining highway, urging you to peek your eyes open. The gentle shake of the car almost lulling you back to sleep before you realize where you are.
"Paige, you've got to be kidding me," you groan out after catching a glance at the 6:45 A.M. flashing on the car’s dashboard. She looks at you briefly, a sheepish expression passing over her face. "You're awake."
“I am.” You respond, not hiding your irritation. “Where the hell are we, Bueckers?" You ask turning to look at her, but as your eyes briefly meet hers, a soft “Oh” escapes your lips, and suddenly, where you are doesn't matter anymore.
With your camera, you could have captured every detail—the way the morning light seemed to dance across her blonde hair, the delicate shadows her eyelashes threw across her under-eyes, mingling with the dark circles from a restless night. She looks beautiful.
It could be the best picture you'd ever taken of her. - And if you hadn’t been so clueless and absorbed in your art, you’d probably be paying a lot more attention to the miserable expression across your best friends face instead of the light that was hitting her perfectly.
"Wait, hold still," you whisper, your tone softening as you reach for your phone and point the camera at her. “Just let me get this shot.”
____
It takes a few seconds for you to dig your phone out of the bottom of your backpack where it had been left it in a now futile effort to prevent distractions. Once you find it you waste no time, opening the favorites album in your camera roll, holding up the image from that morning next to the one on your laptop.
‘Oh’
Side by side, the pictures are nearly identical.
Without realizing it, the two of you had recreated on of the last pictures you had taken of her before the two of you stopped talking, before she stopped talking to you.
In this new version, a stark black backdrop replaced blurry trees seen through a car window, and artificial orange and pink lights substituted the natural sunlight. In each image, her expression remained unchanged—those firm glares and pursed lips staring back at you from both screens. A heaviness settled in your chest as you set the phone aside and shut down Lightroom.
‘I’m not doing this right now.’
It was undeniable that you still missed her, even though the two of you had barely spoken in the past year. And despite all of your friends telling you that you should be furious at her for essentially ghosting you, your feelings hadn't changed.
Pure, unbridled misery. That’s the only way to really describe it.
The day you realized your best friend wasn’t ever going to respond to the 20+ ‘read’ texts and missed calls from your attempts to reach her was one of the worst days of your life.
----
Paige had just gotten the OK to return to campus after her ACL surgery, you had been on your way to try and visit her when Azzi had knocked on your dorm room door.
“Oh, were you on your way out?” She had questioned, seeing your outfit and the purse in your hands.
“I was gonna go check up on Paige I heard she was back.” Pausing before you add, “actually I’ve been meaning to ask if you had heard from her? She hasn’t gotten back to me yet and I’ve called like a million times.” You ask, forcing a chuckle to mask the stress bubbling beneath your words.
Azzi's expression hardens, her eyes avoiding yours. "Listen," she begins, her voice heavy, "that's actually what I came to talk to you about."
"Oh?" Your voice rises slightly, a mix of confusion and apprehension.
She takes a deep breath, steadying herself. "Paige doesn’t want you reaching out to her right now. She just needs to focus on getting healthy again."
"Oh." The word escapes your lips softly, tinged with hurt and disbelief, as the weight of her words settles in your chest.
----
The memory fades but the unmistakable hurt is still coursing through you as you close your eyes for a moment, letting yourself breathe.
It had been a mistake to let your guard down.
“You good?”
The voice you’ve been longing to hear for the past year interrupts your thoughts, sending a familiar pang through your chest as you look up, locking eyes with the blonde, her brows raised as she looks down on you with an unreadable expression.

i hate u [abby anderson]
Tumblr media
pairing; abby x afab!reader
word count; 3.8k how tf did that happen
cw; language, mentions of death, angst (like, so much angst), enemies to lovers, eventual smut
summary; abby has always had it out for you. the feeling was mutual.
until it wasn't.
an; hiiii, it's me, providing you with the abby content i'm devoid of. i love this buff lesbian woman so fucking much.
read pt 2 here!
MINORS DO NOT INTERACT OR I'LL CRY (and as always read it on AO3 here <3)
there were much more productive ways you could be spending your time. you could be, i don’t know—literally doing anything else other than being forced to clean these goddamned bathrooms.
it’s not that you didn’t mind cleaning, no. in fact, under ideal circumstances, cleaning could actually be fun for you. there was just a big problem with who it forced you into a room with this time. with her stupid long french braid, and her absurdly large muscles—like seriously, what the fuck was she showing off for? we’re killing scars, not for training for the fucking rapture.
“you know, if you move the mop in a back-and-forth motion, it would actually clean the floors.”
to put it quite plainly, abby doesn’t like you. you said left, she had to say right; you say go, she had to say stop—the mutual loathing was just routine at this point, it came almost as natural as breathing. surely it didn’t help that the two of you were typically sent on assignments that involved being together for far too many hours at a time. rarely was it made only slightly better by the presence of someone else, another body to diffuse even an ounce of the tension that hung between the two of you like a rope.
you scoffed at her juvenile insolence, though you started mopping again nonetheless. “trust me, i don’t want to be here any longer than i have to. i have shit to do,” you jeered, making it a point to look down at the ground, watching the soapy water spread across the tile. not at the way her muscles—have you mentioned they’re absurdly large?—flexed as she wiped down the counter with bleach.
“oh, i’m sorry, i didn’t realize i was keeping you from something!” abby exclaimed, feigning ignorance. “by all means, you run off and do whatever it is you have to do, and i’ll just finish this little punishment all by myself.”
you had to bite back a bitter laugh, instead choosing to shake your head at the ground, your mopping becoming just a little bit more aggressive with each stroke. you chose to ignore it. you almost had her completely tuned out of your mind, until you didn’t.
“it’s not like i was the one who just let that scar go.” that stopped you dead in your tracks.
abby has said a lot of things to you. a lot of untrue things. a lot of hurtful things, even. and again, it was entirely possible you could have even ignored that. but then you looked up—and you saw her stupid, imprudent fucking smirk, and it was over. “you know what abby?” you started, throwing your mop. you didn’t even have the energy to smile at the way she flinched when the wooden handle hit the ground with a loud bang. she played it off quickly, though, raising an eyebrow and leaning back against the counter. you didn’t expect the sudden lump in your throat.
“fuck you.”
the words didn’t come out exactly like you’d hoped. maybe there was a slight hesitation, the faintest crack between the syllables, a single tear threatening to spill down your cheek—but you meant it, wholeheartedly.
fuck abigail anderson.
you couldn't bother to give her even a second thought as you turned on your heel, ignoring her calls of your name from behind you. perhaps a bit childish, but you slammed the door extra hard on your way out.
let that scar go? is she fucking for real?
you were so tired of having to prove your place here to her. isaac sent you both on the same assignments, he trusts you just as much as her to do his most important jobs, but it never seems to be good enough. whether it was jealousy or stubbornness, you could never be quite sure.
time and time again you’ve tried to make nice with abby; you had actually wanted to be friends with her—the jaunty girl who never seemed to let her past slow her down, taking every opportunity to crack a sarcastic joke and practically jumping in front of bullets for the people she loved—you’d tried to spark friendly conversation, volunteered to take some of her extra assignments, even offered her a book you’d overheard her mentioning she wanted to read that you just happened to have on your bookshelf, but it was all futile. she wanted nothing to do with you, like your presence alone was a personal inconvenience. so, naturally, you stopped trying—yet, the two of you almost always somehow ended up in the same room together, whether it was a drunken night in leah and nora’s room, or cleaning bathrooms as a stupid punishment.
but one, one little slip up and that’s all it took. you took your eyes off that scar for a split fucking second, and now she’ll never let you live it down. you were furious, angry tears clouding your vision as you stormed away, down the hallway and practically sprinting up the stairs to your room.
she can clean that bathroom all by herself, you thought as you fumbled to get your keys out of your pocket, dropping them on the ground in your haste. “fuck!” you exclaimed, bending down to pick them up, searching for the small silver key on the ring.
“there you are,” a sudden voice from behind startles you enough that you flinch, dropping your keys again. of fucking course.
“go away abby,” you practically snarl, wiping away the wetness on your cheeks with your palm before she could see. despite your weak protest, you could hear her heavy footsteps getting closer as you finally unlocked the door, pushing it open and slipping inside.
“oh, come on,” abby was right on your heels, pressing a hand against the door and preventing it from fully closing behind you. your eyes felt like they might roll into the back of your head.
“i’m sorry, what part of ‘go away’ was unclear to you?” you snapped, turning around to glower at her through the small crack in the doorway. her arm strength was incredible, she was barely leaning against the door as you pushed with an embarrassing amount of effort to try and close it on her. what you lacked in brawn, you pride yourself in making up for with brains—yet another reason it was already embarrassing enough that you fucked up, now she was practically rubbing it in your face.
abby’s eyes held a look you couldn’t quite understand. no way she was apologetic, but her face held a certain softness to it you’d never quite seen before. usually her face was all rigid lines and sharp angles, clenched jaw and guarded eyes, especially with you. it was rare for her to smile around you, now that you thought about it.
“can we talk?” abby asked, and her voice was almost…pitiable. her eyes were low and her pink lips parted slightly. it was unnerving. she never asked you for anything, let alone to talk. your eyes flickered across her face, trying to make sense of what she was really trying to say, beneath the surface.
but there was really nothing to say to that. no, you wanted to scream, no we can’t fucking talk, fuck you, and i never want to talk to you again. but you said nothing, instead shaking your head and turning away, letting the door swing open against the pressure of her hand.
“why do you hate me so much?” your mouth was moving before your brain could catch up, arms crossing defensively over your chest, though you were no longer facing her.
“why do i hate you?” she scoffed, and you heard the door closing softly.
“yes, why?” you spun around to face her now—she still stood near the door, that same indecipherable expression painted on her face. you avoided her eyes, but noted the way her nose twitched ever so slightly. “ever since i stepped foot in this stadium you’ve had it out for me, and no matter how hard i try, i can’t understand why,” oh fuck, the anger was coming back up, rising in your throat like bile, “is it because i don’t put up with your shit anymore?”
“no,” abby gritted out, taking a step toward you. “listen, i—”
“because i see right through your little act?” you cut her off and wow, she was fuming now, chest rising and falling heavily as she clenched her fists together. “stop it, i’m trying to—”
but you couldn’t stop, even if you didn’t mean it, “‘ooh poor me, my dad died and now i’m stronger because of it, and everybody loves me,’” the words stung in your mouth, and in your eyes, “‘i’m isaac’s top scar killer but i have a heart of gold,’” tears falling as you stomped toward her, “well good for fucking you abby. i’ve lost a lot of people too but you don’t see me acting like i’m better than everyone.”
you couldn’t help it, you were pushing her before you knew it, right in the chest with as much strength as you could muster, and she wasn’t expecting it because she stumbled backwards into your bookshelf, a picture frame falling and shattering on the ground before she caught her footing.
you looked her right in the eyes for the first time since she had entered your room, uninvited, and all you saw was flames, burning through her blue irises like wildfire. you stepped back, wide-eyed and disoriented, her figure nothing more than a blurry silhouette in front of you. her heavy breathing was all that you could hear, it consumed you, made you dizzy as you staggered backwards, that ineffable sadness reaching into your chest and squeezing around your heart, fuck, how does she do this to you?
“for fucks sake, would you just listen?” abby’s asked suddenly. her voice was rough around the edges, chipped away by your words—you couldn’t look at her, it was too much, a sob escaping your throat before you could stop it. why did you say that to her? she was reaching toward you before you could say another word, you half expected her to hit you, to strangle you, to say fuck you and never speak to you again, but then her calloused fingers were gripping your forearm.
“abby,” your voice was pathetic, broken and whiny, god, you were completely out of control. you let your arm go limp, watching as her hand practically burned an impression into your skin as she pulled you into her chest. you were overwhelmed by her scent, that fucking pine soap she always hoarded and faintest hint of bleach that burned your nose, reminding you of what started this in the first place.
no, this couldn’t be real life, there was no way you were crying in front of abby, your biggest vulnerabilities tumbling from your lips like an avalanche, but her arms were there, wrapping around your shoulders like a blanket as her head fell into the crook of your neck. you couldn’t tell whose heart was beating faster, her pulse pounding against your ear as your arms hung limp by your side. your brain was absolutely spinning trying to figure out what to make of this, a few loose strands of her braid hair tickling the side of your cheek as you shifted your head.
“i’m sorry,” her strained voice bled down your neck, sending a shiver down your spine, her breath hot against your shoulder as she tightened her grip. instinctively, you wrapped your arms around her waist, giving in to her touch, her apology washing over you like a humid rain in the summer—you’d waited so long just to hear those two little words, but it felt wrong somehow. “i’m sorry,” she repeated, quieter now, though you were probably the one who should be saying that.
“abby,” you found yourself saying again, squeezing your eyes shut as you leaned into her, feeling the tightness of her back muscles flex as you flattened your hands against her back, oh god, what the fuck is happening right now? “i didn’t mean that,” you whispered, muffled slightly against her shirt. the words i’m sorry usually came easy to you, often apologizing for things that didn’t warrant one in the first place, but the words were harder to get out somehow in this moment, pressed against the fabric of her shirt.
her grip on you loosened, her arms sliding down your back and she was gone in an instant, turning away, clasping her fingers together and bringing them to the back of her neck.
“i don’t hate you,” but she couldn’t face you, dropping her arms to her hips as she looked at the ground. you watched the anxious tapping of her foot and it felt like you couldn’t breathe—isn't this what you wanted? to be friends, or at the very least, for her to not hate you? maybe then, but not now. “i’m intimidated.” she was quiet, turning to face you. the orange glow of the lamp cascaded over her face, painting her in the softest form you’d ever seen her in.
“intimidated?” you were taken aback, furrowing your brow. “by me?” you shook your head, incredulous at her sudden confession. what could she possibly be intimidated by? “abby, you’re-” you gestured at her, unsure of what to say. “-you could probably snap me in half if you wanted to, i-i don’t understand-”
“oh trust me, i know,” abby cut you off, scoffing, and fuck, she just couldn’t help herself could she? you were mortified she’d caught you in a moment of weakness, you were angry, you were so fucking confused. your pity quickly soured, tears dried up in an instant, the disdain seeping back into your skin like a parasite—no matter how many times the two of you got close to reconciling, it always went wrong somehow. it had felt different this time, but maybe you were wrong.
“abby, i swear to god i-”
“okay, okay, i’m sorry,” she softened again, taking a deep breath to steady herself. “old habits die hard, am i right?”
you squinted at her, crossing your arms over your chest defensively. “does this really seem like the time to be making a fucking joke? because the door is right there,” you made a show of pointing at the door before turning to sit on the chair behind you, bending over to take off your boots. anything to avoid looking her in the eye.
“fuck, i’m sorry, i don’t know how to talk to you about this,” she was walking towards you now, and you didn’t bother to look up. she sat opposite you in the mismatched chair, leaning forward to rest her elbows on her knees. you looked up at her through wet lashes as you pulled your boots off, tossing them haphazardly to the side. she looked just as confused as you felt, brows furrowed in frustration—nothing about this felt normal, or okay.
“what i’m trying to say is that i’m sorry,” she started, dropping her head to look at the ground.
“you said that already,” you noted dryly, scooting back in the chair and pulling your knees to your chest protectively. she laughed, but it didn’t sound bitter.
“i’m sorry, for everything,” abby looked at you now, and your breath hitched. “for how i’ve acted around you. for the way i’ve treated you, the things i’ve said. all of it,” her eyes were full of sorrow, and it made her look a way you’d never seen before—vulnerable, fragile, empty. “right after you moved onto the base, leah told me about what you’ve been through, losing your parents and your brother, being forced into that military school, and still fighting to get here all the way from boston. if i’m being honest, i was jealous that you could take it all in stride.”
you could do nothing but stare at her, wide-eyed and dumbstruck.
“from the minute you got here, you were so calm and collected, ready to help anyone who needed it. you were constantly volunteering for extra assignments, helping out in the classrooms, doing all the work that no one else wanted to do with a smile on your face…i know we all have a past but i never could’ve guessed yours,” she let her head fall again, clasping her hands together and taking a deep breath, “and god, you’re so fucking smart, like there’s no way you learned all the shit you know about history at that dumb military school.”
your mouth fell open slightly, trying to process her words. first, an apology, and then a compliment? no smart-ass comments, no snarky look, no just kidding. you’d never even talked with her about your love of history that much, let alone your family.
“abby,” you started, pulling your knees tighter to your chest. your brain and your mouth were fighting over what to say, the years of dissention between the two of you threatening to surface—but she seemed genuine. bouncing her leg up and down, abby continued to avoid your gaze as she picked at her cuticles.
“when i first got here, i was a mess.” she cut you off. “i could barely eat or sleep, i hid in my room whenever i wasn’t out on an assignment, and i didn’t care about anyone or anything. it took me months to get past it all and then you came along, so open and easygoing, even after everything you’ve been through…i was embarrassed.”
“everybody handles grief differently,” you said quietly, putting your feet back on the ground. she looked up at you, and her cheeks were wet. you swallowed thickly. “i wasn’t always that happy behind closed doors.”
abby frowned slightly. she was quiet now, pensive as she held your gaze. your cheeks burned under the scrutiny, and you wanted to shrink into the chair. less than an hour ago you had all the intention in the world of never speaking to abby again, and now she was sat, taking up space in your room, and your mind, fuck, how was she always on your mind?
“that still doesn’t explain why you were so mean to me,” you broke the silence after taking another second to process her words, and tears were clouding your vision again.
“yeah, if i’m still being honest, i don’t really have an explanation for that either. or, not a good one, at least,” she at least had the decency to look sheepish, leaning back and scratching her neck lightly. “i guess because i was so intimidated by the way you handled yourself, i just defaulted to…jealous rage?” she sounded unsure, and you scoffed.
“wow,” you said. “you’re right, that is a terrible explanation,” you shook your head, leaning back to match her pose. she laughed again, looking up to the ceiling, and it sounded foreign.
“i’m not the best with words,” she smiled weakly, a blush creeping up her neck.
“trust me, i could tell by all your elementary insults.”
“hey, didn’t i just say i was sorry?”
you smiled back at her now, against your better judgment. the two of you had spent the past three years practically at each other’s throats, and a simple i’m sorry i was mean to you because i don’t know how to handle my emotions was supposed to fix it all?
“i meant it though,” abby said softly now, eyes boring into yours. “i’m sorry. for everything.”
you held her gaze a moment longer, but had to look away. you had to, before she could see that you were caving, that all you’ve ever wanted to hear was that—that you wanted to just talk to her without always being on guard, that you wanted to know her favorite music and what she really thought about all of manny’s sexcapades and if she ever took her hair down from that goddamn french braid and— “you don’t have to forgive me. not right now, anyways. i just hope that one day you can.”
and then she was standing up, your eyes followed up her torso as she stood, smoothing her shirt down before giving you another weak smile and heading for the door. oh god, fuck, fuck all of this, “abby, wait,” you were up and after her in a heartbeat, grabbing her forearm just as she had yours earlier, forcing her to turn around. she looked surprisedly, first at your face, then down at your grip on her forearm, which you quickly dropped when you felt your heart skipping a beat. her eyes were wild, tired and full of anguish.
before you could talk yourself out of it, you were practically throwing yourself at her, arms wrapping around her torso as you pressed your cheek into her chest. she stumbled only briefly, before you felt her arms envelope your shoulders once more. this time, it didn’t feel wrong.
it felt like coming home.
“i really shouldn’t have said that thing about your dad,” you said, but it was muffled in her shirt.
you felt her laugh rumble in her chest before she squeezed you tighter, her head lowering into your neck so that you felt her lips on your shoulder as she spoke. “yeah, that was pretty fucked up.”
you smiled into her, and god, this was all fucked up. the world was fucked up, and out of it was born you and abby—two fucked up people making fucked up choices that lead to some pretty fucked up consequences.
she pulled back from you, but kept her hands on your shoulders. you took a fistful of her shirt, looking down to avoid her eyes. your stomach was flipping, the heat radiating from her body overwhelming you and making you feel dizzy. “can you forgive me?”
and yeah, that was maybe your fucked up, roundabout way of telling abby, i do forgive you, but she seemed to understand. when you dared to look back up, she dropped a hand, and the other came to softly caress your cheek. she looked at you tenderly, the rough pad of her thumb wiping away a tear you hadn’t even noticed.
“of course i can.”
and then there was only the sound of your heart thrumming in your ears, her quickened breath as she looked at you in a way you’d never seen before. you gripped her shirt tighter, lips parting slightly as you felt the weight of her hand against your cheek. you leaned into it, eyes slipping closed for a moment.
“abby,” you whispered, your free hand coming up to hold hers in place against your cheek.
“shh,” she shushed you softly, and you could sense her getting closer. you didn’t dare open your eyes, heat pooling in your stomach as you felt her breath fanning across your face.
“don’t speak.”
her lips pressed against yours so softly that for a moment, you wondered if you were dreaming.

My Queen (Pt. 4) 🔪
Yandere!Hyunjin x Fem!Reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Pt. 1) (Pt. 2) (Pt. 3) (Pt. 4) (Pt 5)
Warnings: delusions, Stockholm Syndrome, toxic relationship, yandere
—————————— 👑 ———————————
Gently, Hyunjin braided your hair, adding little flowers and clips, making you feel special. After months of staying indoors, you finally convinced him to go on a date outside, beyond the usual garden or park outings.
It’s not that he didn’t trust you, he just worried about someone stealing you away. As he finished tying your hair, you discussed the day's plan.
"So, first the cafe?"
"Yes, love," he nodded
"Then a walk through town and maybe some shopping?"
"Mmhm..." he nodded, a bit nervous.
"And dinner at the end?"
"Yes, only the best for you, my queen," he replied.
"That makes me happy," you said, turning to give him a quick peck on the lips.
"Thats good," he smiled, the nervousness fading as your affection warmed the moment.
~~~~~~~~~~~~ 👑
You took a sip of your hot mocha, sighing with comfort as you took in your surroundings. It was so nice being out in public. Fresh air and the warm smell of coffee had you feeling good.
It was a chilly day and Hyunjin had you dressed in a skirt with warm tights and boots. While at the cafe, he would be eyeing any and all people in the surrounding area. No one should lay eyes on his queen. No one here is worthy of her presence.”
Due to drinking a large Iced Americano, Hyunjin had to take a bathroom break. He wanted to be quick, but he knew you wouldn’t move.
"Y/n? Is that you?"
You hear a familiar voice and turn around. It was a friend.
"Oh, hi Jihyo!"
"Where have you been?" The girl asked while coming right up to you.
"What do you mean?"
"You've been gone for months! We thought you were kidnapped!"
"Oh I’m okay. I'm not kidnapped. Hyunjin brought me home."
"Hyunjin?” She said with a pause. “That weird guy who likes you? Did he kidnap you?"
"No, he brought me back to the castle."
"The cas— y/n, that's crazy talk! He kidnapped you! He's not right in the head.”
“What do you mean?” You ask with the tilt of your head.
“You’ve been gone for months!” She said frantically. “How could you let him keep you imprisoned like that??”
“Oh no.” You replied. "He's the love of my life,"
"Y/n, he's brainwashed you," Jihyo said, grabbing your wrist.
“How has he done that—?”
Hyunjin returned, glaring until Jihyo let go. "Who is this?" he asked.
"A friend, Jinnie. We were catching up, right?"
"Y/n..." Jihyo spoke cautiously. "We should hang out sometime."
"Yeah? Maybe you can visit." You added excitedly. “Jinnie, can Jihyo visit the castle?"
"I'll think about it," he said.
"Come on, darling," Hyunjin said, pulling you away. "Let's go; I want to get you some pretty jewelry."
"Okay! See you later, Jihyo!"
Your friend watched as the man lead you out. She was incredibly worried. Yeah she was glad you’re okay but she’s also worried about how you spoke. What has he done to you?
~~~~~~~ 👑
“What were you talking with your friend about?” He asked while getting back to the car.
“Not much really.” You said with a shrug. “She’s just been wondering where I’ve been.”
“What did you say?”
“I said that you took me home. Back to the castle.” You said with a smile.
Hyunjin sighed with relief while leaning in to give a quick kiss.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, my love.”’
~~~~~ 👑
After some shopping and him just spoiling you in general, you found yourselves at a restaurant. Nothing too fancy but still nice.
As you waited for your meal, Hyunjin, rubbed your hand and admired the new necklace he'd given you. He had an even bigger surprise planned and was excited. When the food arrived, you felt awkward; you were used to him feeding you.
"Sorry, Love," he apologized, noticing your hesitation. "I didn't mean to make you wait!"
"It's okay, Jinnie.”
Ignoring the curious looks, Hyunjin cut up your food and fed you, even taking care of your drink. It might have seemed strange to others, but they figured it was just a cringy couple thing.
After finishing, he ordered dessert, a slice of cake for you to share along with ice cream.
As you waited, Hyunjin stood up next to you, taking your hand.
“Y/n, my love.”
“Yes?”
“You are the most beautiful and amazing woman ever. No one compares to you, my queen.” He continued. “I wish to spend all eternity with you. I wish to rule by your side forever and ever.”
“Hm?”
After getting on one knee, he pulled out a ring from his pocket, one he had bought earlier in secret. “Will you marry me?”
You covered your mouth in shock. So unexpected! You could feel as the others in the restaurant turned their heads at the interesting scene.
“Of course I will!” You said with a smile, hugging him tight as he stood up. This illicited the surrounding patron to clap and cheer. Believing that this was so sweet.
Some tears rolled down your cheeks as he slipped the ring on. “I love it, Jinnie.”
In this moment, you felt so happy. Surrounded by cheering people and your loving boyfriend— no Fiancé! You couldn’t wait to spend the rest of your life with him. The love of your life.
Spider and Tuk being the bestest siblings ever and spider being the mvp big brother we all know he is hc's (modern + adopted spi au addition):
Before he could drive he would wait at Tuk's bus stop to get her off the bus. He insisted on doing it to "ease the workload on his parents" (since with Jake and Neytiri's work schedule, Tuk would have to go to an afterschool program and someone would have to pick her up) which it does, but it was really cause he liked to have the quality time with Tuk.
On their walk home he would ask her about school. He asks about what she did, if she brought anything home she wanted to show him (normally stuff from art class), if she did anything special or fun, that sort of stuff. He also stays up to date on her school gossip and makes sure no one's bothering his baby sis.
They hold hands the whole walk home, and more often than not he ends up carrying her or her bag for her.
Once he gets his license he picks her up from school and fills the 45 minute-ish time she would have normally spent on the bus and walking home at the park or getting ice cream or something else of the like.
When they get home he makes sure to look at anything she brought home. All the cool stuff first; art, school work she's proud of, a pretty pebble, or the occasional half wilted flower from the recess field. He makes sure to give all the praise and compliments possible, especially to the art and school work, cause he's supporting those skills early. Then he makes sure he gets all the homework, permission slips, things like that.
When his siblings ask why he does it, he says, "Who's gonna ask her to see what she drew during recess? Who's gonna ask if she did anything fun with her best friend? Who's gonna make sure she's not left out of the loop? We're a busy family, I don't want her getting left out just cause she's little, I'll ask, I like doing it anyway" he knows his family's busy, he knows Tuk tends to fall to the background cause she's the youngest, and that Jake and Neytiri are busy trying to keep them all afloat, so he takes care of Tuk.
He helps her with her homework and never raises his voice or gets frustrated. He sits next to her and they figure it out together.
He's always proud of her, even for the little things, so he's always giving her hugs and kissing her hair and other classic big brother things.
More often than not, Spider puts Tuk to bed. Either Jake and Neytiri give up trying to tame the "cranky banshee" (what Spider call her when she's tired) of a child and call Spider in, or she asks for him. He'll lay down next to her and pull her close and tell her stories until she gets sleepy and cuddled into him. Only then does he pull out the "put'em to sleep" combo, as he calls it; he hum to her (he hums "a la nanita na", like his mama used to hum to him, fight me) while rubbing her back with one hand and plays with her braids with the other. She's out like a light in a few minutes every time.
He often refers to her as a little banshee whenever she's being feisty or especially energetic.
There was an almost 2 month streak where Tuk would only sleep if Spider stayed in her room for the night or if she was in Spider's bed (which she preferred cause it was bigger and cozier). Spider didn't mind so he gave in almost immediately. Best sleep he got in years, even with the bony knees and elbows poking him.
Spider will sacrifice himself when she gets sick, opting to be the one to go comfort her, knowing he'll be sick soon after. He has spent many nights holding her on the bathroom floor and wiping snotty noses. (he always gets it and gets it *worse* but it's worth it for his baby sis)
Tuk always does he best to take care of him after. She'll sit in bed with him and pet his hair or bring him snacks/water. When she was little, she'd bring out all her Doc McStuffin's toys (cause she'd love Doc McStuffin's, again, fight me) and try and 'make him better'
Spider has the strongest cuteness aggression ever for Tuk, like, he wants to squish her and bite her and squeeze her and shake her, with all of the love in the world. He satiates himself by snatching her, flopping on the floor, and bear hugging her as tight as he can, with his legs too, and just rolling back and forth till she's giggling so hard she can't breathe.
He is deeply invested in multiple children's shows because of how often he watches them with her. (His favorite is Wild Kratts, Paw Patrol, and Ninja Turtles)
(this one next one is so random but Spi and Tuk have pastina lover vibes, again, I dare you to fight me on this)
Spider spent time in the system and fending for himself, meaning he picked up a lot of easy recipes, one of which, was pastina with butter, broth, and cheese. He passed this on to Tuk, who has now decided this is the best snack ever and asks him to make it all the time.
Spider works out, just so he can carry her around forever and ever.
He always make sure that he and his older little siblings always give time to Tuk and involve her in their play.
They go on day trips after he gets his license, sometimes just the two of them, other times with all the Sully kids. They go to museums and science centers and such. He again holds her hand most of the time, or makes sure that she doesn't get lost while playing.
Worries over her constantly.
They trade art all the time. He'll make her a knew piece of jewelry and she'll give him a new painting to keep in his room.
He has a picture of her in his wallet.
He takes so many photos of her, he's like a facebook mom. Lo'ak makes fun of him.
He's teaching her how to skateboard, cause she thinks he's the coolest ever cause he knows how to skateboard. He got her a pretty skateboard and hot pink gear (in which he went overboard in buying considering her basically bought her a hot pink suit of armor) and helped her decorate it. He also makes sure she's not picked on when they go to the skate park.
He kisses every boo boo.
He makes and (never ever breaks) lots of pinky promises.
they have a special handshake.
When the Sully's go out anywhere, you can tell when Tuk wants to go home, because she'll be in Spi's arms, cause he'd never turn down an opportunity to hold his baby sister.
They match hair beads. Spi will always have at least one that matches with hers at all times, and Tuk will have one of his on the braid behind her ear so she can fiddle with it.
Tuk always double and triple checks that Spider has his inhaler (he doesn't know how she remembers better than he can)
She wears his shirts to bed a lot. They're big and soft and who could blame her?
should I do more of these (maybe one for each sibling?)
don’t know how to be something you miss | ch 2
Wednesday Addams x Reader
Summary: On a rainy day, Wednesday recalls pieces of your story together through memories, and wonders if you miss her too.
A/N: People asked for a part 2 so I'm delivering. Soft!Wednesday because I can, so I will. I have to say that reading the first part is kinda essential to understand this one. This was based around this song that was suggested by @abelvrla, and this one that was suggested by @tuboficecream. The writing process for this was so weird, I feel like I genuinely blacked out while writing it, I wasn't really thinking about what I was doing and that's what came out. So, sorry if the quality is questionable; but hopefully not.
Masterlist | Read ch 1 here
Tumblr media
On the three-week mark, Wednesday goes looking for you.
She hates doing it; admitting that the mistake was hers. But she also hates that it took her this long to do so.
Because each day away from you feels like dying, little by little.
You resemble a ghost to her sometimes. She has glimpses of you every day yet never manages to get close enough to properly grasp you. It's unfair, because you have a hold on her; and it comes with this everlasting longing, a phantom pain in her heart that weeps in your absence.
She still wonders if it's the same for you, or if she fell alone and you don't miss her as she does you.
Wednesday considered, for a brief moment, to let it go — to bury your hoodie in the confines of her wardrobe and never look at it again and just forget about you. The Wednesday from a year ago would do just that, and call the Wednesday from today pathetic for even thinking otherwise.
But living in the past takes her nowhere. Wednesday would never forgive herself for not trying to save what you two had.
So she goes looking, and she finds you in Xavier's art shed. She knows you're there because your bike is leaning against the wall outside.
There's an instant bitterness in her mouth.
It's a gloomy day outside, fluffy clouds coming together to form what looks to be a storm. Wednesday sees it from between the trees as she walks the woods.
A year ago, the prospect of a storm would make her smile.
Not today. Rain brings back memories. And Wednesday doesn't want memories.
Taking in a deep breath, Wednesday pushes open the wooden door. You're sitting on a stool with a big canvas in front of you; there's a brush between your fingers and your tongue is poking out of your mouth as you concentrate on the image you're painting; a stroke of black paint is smudged on your cheek and Wednesday catches a glimpse of a black braid on your canvas — she really tries not to let her mind wander onto what it could be.
The door shuts close behind her with a soft click, finally drawing your attention. The shed feels too cramped for the tension hanging in the air. Breathing is a challenge already.
"Wednesday?" Xavier is the first to speak. Wednesday hadn't even noticed his presence.
"Did you need something?" He keeps going, annoyingly because he's invading her moment with you.
Wednesday doesn't look at him when she speaks, she has an unblinking stare focused on you; "I was hoping we could talk."
You lower your brush, trying to clean your cheek with the back of your hand but you only end up smudging more paint there.
It's been five seconds already and you're not talking. Wednesday takes it as a rejection. And somehow her broken heart still found a way to beat, thundering against her ears. It's almost deafening.
Wednesday bunches up the fabric on the cuffs of her jacket, her nails forming half-moons on her palms to ground herself.
"Give me a few minutes to change," your voice cut the silence and you gestured to your clothes, a little ruined with paint - you always had been a bit clumsy. "I'll find you."
There's an almost nonexistent softness to Wednesday's eyes. Because there's a barely there smile on your lips.
Rain is pouring down violently, the power has gone out in the whole school and now candles are the ones that illuminate Wednesday's room.
She hates the sound of the drops hitting her window and the roof above, they're loud, they bring with them the familiar cold air. It feels like loneliness, abandonment.
A knock comes from her door and Wednesday scrambles to open it. You're standing on the other side, a white and red hoodie keeping you warm because you couldn't find your favorite one.
Something about you instantly warms up the whole dorm when you walk in.
"I've been waiting for you," you tell her, keeping your hands behind your back. Ever since Wednesday snapped at you, you've been holding yourself back from reaching out, even if it hurt. If she wanted to make amends, you wanted it to be her decision.
Wednesday gulps, her gaze moving up and down your body before she has the courage to look you in the eyes. She feels out of place, maybe a little lost. She's unsure what's the next step on all this.
"I-" her words are tangled, everything she had perfectly planned is now a mess inside her mind, "I believe I owe you an apology."
You nod softly, the orange glow of the small flickering flame of the candle that rests on Wednesday's desk is reflecting against your skin. You look like her favorite dream.
"Okay," you tell her in all your tenderness, "for what?"
It's most unkind, though; Wednesday thinks to herself as she clenches her jaw. Because you know her, you know this isn't easy, yet you still want to hear her say it.
Wednesday huffs with remains of annoyance and shifts from one foot to another, she wants to reach out and hold you, bring things back to how they were. The distance feels worse now than it did when she saw you from the opposite side of the cafeteria. Maybe because you're just a step away from her, yet she doesn't feel within the right to take that step.
Thunder rumbles outside, and with it, the tight feeling weighing down on Wednesday's chest increases. She blinks once, twice. Her vision blurs over. She feels she's one word away from winning you back or losing you for good.
"I said things I didn't mean the last time we spoke."
You pursed your lips, taking half a step toward Wednesday; "you said your life was better before I showed up."
Wednesday instantly shook her head, "that's not what I meant."
"What did you mean then?"
"That I was scared." The words roll off Wednesday's tongue before she has a chance to filter them, she closes her eyes for a beat, cringing at her own sudden vulnerability. She decides you're worth it.
"I didn't know what had happened to you that day," Wednesday tells you, tone tight, "I never-" she hesitates, and you take another step closer. One of your hands comes up to Wednesday's cheek to tuck back a loose strand of hair there. It's laughable that the small touch is almost enough to get Wednesday to crumble.
"I never cared about someone to the point of feeling like I'm being drowned to death at the mere thought of harm coming to them," she finishes in a rush. So fast that some words almost mend together into one, but you manage to understand.
It's only when your thumb brushes it away, that Wednesday realizes a tear had slipped past her defenses and was rolling down her cheek. She looks away from you then, severely embarrassed.
"Love scares you," you whisper. It's not a question, you know it's a truth.
Wednesday is as still as a corpse, the only things moving are her eyes, incapable of choosing where to focus.
"I'm not going anywhere, Wednesday," you promise, because you knew she had to hear it. Then, you finally bring the hand that was behind your back to rest between both you and her.
When Wednesday looks down, she sees you holding onto a small box. Black in its color and resting perfectly in your palm. She frowns, glancing up at you in confusion. All you do is extend the box further toward her.
Wednesday relents and takes the box from you, careful as ever. She doesn't dare breathe when she opens it.
Inside, rests a necklace. The pendant in it has the shape of a Black Dahlia.
Wednesday doesn't need you to say a word. That's what you went to get on that day.
A sob cuts its way through Wednesday's throat, and she's suddenly losing any last bits of composure she had. Tears make a steady path down her cheeks.
You had come back to her with a physical manifestation of your affections, and she called you an inconvenience.
Apologies stumble past Wednesday's lips before she can stop them.
"We're okay," you tell her in the same heartbeat, sneaking your arms around her waist and pulling her body to yours. You grip her tightly, any last remaining distance between you disappearing.
Wednesday buries herself in your embrace, feeling the cold finally seep away from her skin and be replaced with your warmth.
"I missed you," her lips brush your skin with the confession and you feel the words in your heart.
You hug her tighter; "I missed you too."
There's a soft whimper that slips Wednesday at the knowledge that she was, after all, someone worth missing.
Wednesday's cheeks are a bright shade of pink when she eventually, reluctantly pulls away from you. It gets a warm and fuzzy feeling spreading through your chest.
She's holding the necklace tightly, it makes you smile. "May I?"
You take the necklace from her hands, whispering for her to turn around and she does so without hesitation. With delicate fingers, you close it around her neck.
It's a perfect fit, the dark flower resting perfectly over her chest.
"You look beautiful," you tell her with a smile.
Wednesday brings her hand up, tracing the pendant on her necklace. It makes her feel like she's yours, and she doesn't hate it.
Raindrops are steadily trickling down the window, the flames of the candles around you give the room the most intimate of feelings. You like it when the lights are out. And while looking around, your eyes catch a glimpse of a pop of color resting on top of Wednesday's bed. You walk closer to get a better look — because there wasn't supposed to be color in her side of the room.
And there, beside Wednesday's pillow, rests the lilac hoodie you've been incessantly looking for these last weeks.
With a chuckle, you pick it up, "I've been looking everywhere for this."
"You left it here," Wednesday tells you quickly, she's not looking you in the eye and the blush of her cheeks has just increased. It's almost like you've stumbled upon a secret she didn't want you to find. "I've been meaning to return it." Her voice is as quiet as you've ever heard it, and you think it's all too adorable.
Bringing the hoodie closer to your nose, you could feel Wednesday's perfume on the fabric. Your skin fills with goosebumps upon imagining her wearing it. You walk closer to her and reach around her to drape the hoodie over her shoulders, admiring the blend of her dark braids over the lilac.
Wednesday's dark eyes drift down to your lips, it's like she can read your mind.
You tug at the hoodie, pulling her close to you. You peck her lips, "you can keep it," you whisper against her, "looks much better on you anyway."
And Wednesday kisses the words, her hands sneaking behind your neck and trapping you to her. She kisses you as if she's not sure you're real yet and is trying to convince herself through your lips.
Wednesday can hear the raindrops hitting her window but all she feels is you.
Maybe she'll learn to love the rain again; as long as you stay.
All for you | Carl Gallagher
Tumblr media
pairing: Carl Gallagher x female!reader
show: Shameless
warnings: angst, fluff, smut (the reader and Carl are 18 years old in this ff)
summary: Carl is challenged that he can get your money, if he makes you fall in love with him. He loves the challenge until he loves something else more...
authors note: sorry for so many pov switched, I didnt notice it, when I first wrote this ff. Also I haven't had the chance to watch all the seasons yet, but I still hope that Carl's character is somewhat accurate :))
Tumblr media
Carl's pov
"Frank, goddamit youre no help! Why are you even lying around here - oh forget it, I don't want to hear it." Fiona's voice echoes in the room, while the entire Gallagher household is present.
The everyday discussion has been going on for too many minutes in which I could have done something better. The damn question “How do we get enough money?”
Lip at college, Ian with his gangster boyfriend, my shitty sister with her kid and then Liam. This family is screwed. No wonder with a father like Frank.
As the argument continues to escalate, I have the misfortune of sitting right next to him.
"You care to share some money, son?" Of course, my attempts to ignore him are unsuccessful.
"The drug trade doesn't always work out so well, but the weapon thing was something. You could give one to your good old dad, you know what the neighborhood is like." I run my hands through my hair in frustration, shaking my head.
"Just get one or two girls pregnant at school, then all of our problems are solved. But she has to be rich. After all, you want to get your hard work paid." Why the hell am I still here?
"You used to be more enthusiastic about my ideas. If you don't want to do play daddy, then use your charm. When I was your age, my cock was enough and the girls were happy."
"Be fucking quiet, no one wants to hear about your pathetic youth." It's no use, he keeps talking.
"I'm only saying, If you make a rich girl fall in love with you, then you can get money to do something nice for your family."
As I get up and walk away from him I take a breath, the tension caused by this idiot sucks.
Still, his words got me thinking. Maybe there's a new girl who would be perfect for this job...
Your pov
When I moved here, I wasn't sure what to expect. New school, maybe mean classmates and bad cafeteria food. That I might be able to join a group and make friends, people who laugh with me in class or go to the cinema together on weekends.
I was prepared to get lost in the hallways a few times, perhaps to be peppered with embarrassing questions by the teachers. I had even prepared myself for being called a nerd again and therefore spending my lunch breaks alone.
Then things turned out differently. I met two girls who, although they scared me at first with their need to gossip all the time, are good people at heart.
They studied with me (meaning they told me the newest gossip and braided my hair while I did our homework), showed me the city and its pitfalls. I felt comfortable, prepared and confident for what awaited me here.
Oh lord, was I wrong.
On a Thursday in the middle of the week I met a boy who messed everything up. Literally.
I met him when he was running through the halls twenty minutes late, but stupidly didn't pay attention to me, who was about to cross his path. Let's put it this way, it ended with my books on the floor, my jacket hanging off my shoulder, and his hair being a huge mess.
When he looked at me, I expected to hear something like "sorry" or "I'll help you."
You want to know what he said?
"Cute top. Let me know if you need help taking it off."
Then he got up casually and walked into the classroom across the hallway, a grin on his face as if he had won the Bachelor title.
After this encounter two things became very clear to me. 1. Look both ways when crossing the halls and 2. Stop daydreaming about this boy, even if he has beautiful blue eyes.
The first thing worked better than the second.
After a few descriptions, which actually only consisted of "incredibly impudent and incredibly good-looking", it was explained to me who I was dealing with.
Carl Gallagher. A boy who has lived here since he was born, someone who is rumoured to be more dangerous than the Italian Mafia.
Even though I thought that was exaggerated, I quickly realized that I should stay away from him and that he meant trouble.
Aside from the fact that I wasn't going to be in the situation of talking to him again anyway, my eyes couldn't stop themselves from looking at him.
There was something that defined him, something that made me want to watch a grin creep across his face when he made an inappropriate joke, how he would push his blonde hair back and his eyes would shine mischievously, as if he had already planned the next bank robbery.
I wasn't the only one who found his charisma attractive tho, of course not when he looked like one of God's angels, but he never really seemed interested in other girls. At least not with any serious intent, you might hear him flirting or making comments about his free bed, but you would never saw him in a relationship.
He never held hands or kissed anyone, had a real smile on his face or said sweet things, he was just Carl.
Suggestive, hot-tempered and like a flag that proclaimed: Stay away from me, because you will lose this fight.
I also felt that if I continued to watch him, I would lose the battle for platonic feelings towards him too.
"Please don't tell me you're looking at our school bad boy again. You better be careful, he might want to sell you a gun." Kenzie's voice makes me sigh.
"These are just rumors. Besides, it's not my fault, he's just -" Her hand on my shoulder interrupts me.
"We know, you have heart eyes every time you talk about him. There are so many great guys in this world, I'm not saying at this school, but you choose this one?" Her look says more than a thousand words as she looks over at Carl, who is pushing his way trough the crowd.
"I'm not in love, just curious. Those are two different things, okay?" Her eyebrows raise.
"You mean, curious how his lips would feel on yours?" Her laughter at my expression is lost in the sounds of the cafeteria.
"Very funny." I murmur to her, food forgotten on my plate. When the school bell rings, I stand up and pick up my backpack.
"My class is canceled now, but I'm going to the library. Will you meet me later?" As I walk backwards I see her thumbs up and the hearts she makes in Carl's direction. My reaction is two quick middle fingers.
As I walk out of the school building, I check my phone and tie my hair into a braid. The library is a few blocks away and the cool air makes me shiver.
When I get there and wave to the boy at the entrance, I turn to my favorite department. Call it cliche, but I love romance books. I mean, I don't know what it feels like to love someone with all my heart, but that doesn't mean I don't love reading about it.
The books I actually need are a few rows away. History, literature, everything I am assigned to get for school.
As I stroke over a few tapes and finally pull out a book to read the first few pages, I hear a noise next to me that makes me look up. After all, the library is usually a pretty quiet place.
As I look into the familiar blue eyes, I feel my cheeks turn red.
I have to stop myself from staring.
"Always a book in your hand, I see." Oh his voice hasn't changed. I try to shrug casually as I answer, but I'm not sure if it actually works.
"Aren't you going to be late for class again?" At my sarcasm he smiles, he takes a step in my direction which weakens my control over my voice.
"I thought I would learn something somewhere else too." These coded words make me swallow.
"So, you're here often?" I almost think he's not answering me, but maybe I'm just not concentrating, because I'm paying too much attention to every mole on his face.
"Actually, I didn't even know this shitty town had a library." His words make me laugh, but several requests to be quiet around us, make me whisper in response.
"Then why are you here?" I think my breathing stops as his hand brushes my fingers that are still holding the book.
"You're here." I feel my heart beating nervously faster, I probably look pretty confused and when I notice his grin, something flutters in my chest.
"No interest in books, huh?" Can my answer actually be any lamer?
"Dont worry, I have a newfound interest in you."
Your pov
If someone had told me a few weeks ago that I would become friends with Carl Gallagher, I would have found the idea absolutely crazy. To be honest, I still find the situation insane, but damn my cheeks still turn just as red when he's with me as they did the first time.
It turns out that he really has no interest in books, even though he visited me at the library almost every day since we met in the romance department.
I've never met anyone like him, funny and couragous without any reserve, always looking for trouble, acting self-confident. But also sweet.
He's like a current that pulls you along, like a wind that blows so hard that you fly with it. He feels like freedom and it is wonderful.
He makes me laugh, he carries my books, plays with my hair, walks home with me. In such a short time I feel like he didn't knock on the doors to my heart, instead he made a home there.
Maybe this is what it feels like to fall in love.
It's not a gentle announcement, more of a realization that makes you incredibly desperate and happy at the same time.
But with him I actually just feel happy.
"Ready, sunshine?" As soon as I come out of the classroom, he comes towards me and takes my bag from me. My heart jumps at his gesture, which feels like winning the Olympics.
"You're crazy, where do you even want to go?" He has something planned but won't tell me. When he puts his arm around my shoulder and I lean against him, I get a few sideways glances from our classmates.
Carl ignores everyone like always, it's crazy but the way he's so confident is pretty attractive to me.
"Does the guy in your cheesy books also tell you where they go on dates? I bet not, so just wait."
🔗🔗🔗🔗
"It feels like you're kidnapping me."
I feel his smile on my back and have to giggle quietly at his response.
"Mh, I plan to do that. But only for a few hours, otherwise my head will roll tomorrow. Your father takes your curfew pretty seriously."
I feel his hands on my hips, guiding me forward, hear the birds chirping around us, but can't figure out where we're going.
"Just a few more steps, baby. Then you'll see." As he promised, it is only a few meters away and when I see a small, calm lake, my mouth falls open in surprise.
"Carl, oh my God! It's wonderful here, thank you so much." I turn around in his grip and look at him, his smile reflects the love that I feel.
"Yeah? How much do you like it?" As his eyes focus on my lips, I feel a tingling feeling in my stomach. Slowly, my fingers stroke his chest and I see him swallow, even though he tries to hide it.
"I think it's incredibly beautiful here, I love it. And...I really like you." I shyly lower my gaze, my words are met with an unknown silence that makes me anxious after a few seconds. But when I look up at him again, he pushes a strand of my hair out of my face.
"To me, you are much more beautiful than this sight. I like you too and I thought that was pretty obvious." I smile broadly, butterflies fly around in my stomach and as the sun illuminates his face, I feel incredibly happy.
"You're so nice to me, I don't know how I deserve this." An expression crosses his face, but when I blink he smiles at me again.
"After all, you are the first person who explained the topics for the history exam to me, without giving up." My hand cups his cheek.
"I wouldn't give you up, you've become too important to me." As I stand on my tiptoes, our lips brush, his hand is on my back and pushes me closer to him.
"You are an angel." With his words we kiss and everything else around us blurs, only he remains. Everything is unimportant except him, standing in front of me, so handsome, that it is difficult not to look at him.
"Come on, let's go for a swim." As he pulls me towards the lake, you can hear our loud laughter in the air.
Carl's pov
"When are you going to collect the money? You've been with her for the last three months and nothing has come of it." Frank's annoying voice frustrates me more than anything else.
"I am working on it. Besides, she's actually really caring." When I see the dismissive hand gesture in my direction, I roll my eyes.
"You are completely wrong, son. A person is there for a certain period of time, but money? Money accompanies you throughout your life, especially if you buy beautiful bottles of the best alcohol."
I sink into the sofa, but want to turn away when I feel his hand on my shoulder.
"If you put it off any longer, it will be harder to get out of the situation. Girls your age will start planning to get married, if you stay with them for months."
But when he leaves, I feel conflicted. Can I really do this to her?
Carl's pov
"Happy birthday!" Her voice makes me jump and, confused, I turn around on the bench to look into her excited eyes.
"Why are you jumping around like that? Are you practicing for cheerleading?" I'm making fun of her, but the smile on her face doesn't fade.
"No, idiot. I'm just really curious to see how you react to your gift." My breath catches for a moment as I take in her words.
"You got me something?" When she leans forward and gives me a kiss on the cheek while pressing the bag into my lap, I start to smile too.
"Open!" Her encouragement breaks me out of my trance and I quickly tear up the paper, looking at the tickets with wide eyes.
"But...these tickets cost a fortune? Did you sell your liver or something?" When I look at her, she smiles back at me.
"I talked to my dad and he agreed that you deserve something special for your birthday. Are you happy?" As I look at the cards, I suddenly feel a pang in my heart. It must be showing on my face, because her happiness is also fading away.
"Do you not like it? I thought it was your favorite team? I can get you something else." When I look at her, I quickly pull her between my legs and kiss her.
"Shh, breathe angel. It's perfect, thank you. And well, your father. It's just a lot of money." Her hands play with the fabric of my shirt.
"You always say that. Do you have problems at home, with money, I mean? I've never been to your place, I don't even know where you live." What should I say to her now?
"It's okay." Her raised eyebrows look at me reproachfully, making me sigh.
"Each of us has to contribute a certain amount of money every month and if I don't sell fucking drugs, it will be tight." Her astonished look makes me pause and I gently stroke her arms.
Before I can say anything else, she kisses me. I look at her in surprise.
"What's that for?" She smiles shyly, looks at the floor for a moment before looking at me again.
"You're just so honest, I admire that. And that you've never asked me for anything, you know. That I lend you some money."
Fuck. Shit. What do I say?
"Yeah, I mean, I don't want to burden you with that-" but she interrupts me again, her concentrated expression makes me curious.
"What's going on in your pretty head?" My hands wander over her sides.
"It's the end of the month, how much are you missing?" I frown in confusion, but when she doesn't let it go, I tell her the amount.
"$240, the rest I earned by helping in the neighborhood." But despite the high sum, she just nods, looks at me again and gives me another kiss.
"Okay, maybe I'll be your sugar mommy." I have to laugh at the absurdity, but the longer she grins at me, the more I think she means it.
"What, are you serious? Thats fucking crazy, how am I supposed to pay you back?" Her eyes look around, but since the classroom is relatively empty during recess, she finds herself between my legs again. She slowly lets her hand wander down my stomach until she squeezes my cock through my clothes and I close my eyes in delight.
"Hmm, maybe you could help me relax between classes." Her eyes sparkle mischievously and I look at her with a grin.
"Anything you want, sugar."
Let's put it this way, the next few weeks the breaks were filled with kissing in the back corner of the classroom, dry humping on the toilet or Carl doing his best to pleasure me with his tongue in the caretaker's room, like now.
"Ahh-, Carl. I'll cum if you keep that up." His head has disappeared under my skirt, his fingers are stroking the bare skin of my thigh and the sinful movements of his tongue are making me see stars.
As he adds a finger and runs it over my folds, slowly until he inserts it, he looks at me again.
"You coming for me? Yeah, be a good girl or do you want to get caught by the old janitor grandpa spreading your legs for me?" As my eyes roll back, he pumps another finger into me, scissoring it thoroughly and hitting that sweet spot inside me.
When I moan loudly, he grins.
"You like that? Just wait until I bury my cock in you and you cant walk straight afterwards, so that everyone will notice." When his finger presses my clitoris, I see white and as I come I try to muffle the sounds with my hand over my mouth.
When I get off my high, I blindly search for my panties. But Carl beats me first.
"Hmm, no. I think I'll keep it as a little souvenir. Maybe you can get it back when you come to my house later." I don't know what surprises me more: that he wants me to run around exposed at school or that I'm invited to his house for the first time.
"Really? I'd like to come." But he interprets my words differently, his fingers stroke my entrance again and I moan and squeeze my eyes shut.
"Don't worry, I'll take care of it. Very well and for a very long time." When the bell rings, he lets go of me and I whimper slightly.
"Carl-" but he interrupts me by pulling back and straightening my skirt.
"I'm sure our agreement was between recess, now it's class time. Come on, I'll make it up to you later."
Your pov
As we ride the bus toward his home, I take his hand and intertwine our fingers.
"But don't expect a mansion or any of that shit." Ever since we left school, he has been bad-mouthing his hometown every free minute he has.
"Don't worry, I'll only have eyes for you anyway." The statement makes him laugh and he relaxes a little. As we get out and walk a little way along the street, we are watched by a few people.
"Why are so many people staring at us?" When he look at me, I'm obviously confused.
"Not everyone here wears designer clothes that cost several thousand dollars. If you come here more often, they'll call you a princess." Giggling, I slap him on the arm and as we climb the stairs to his house, I look around curiously.
"So this is where you grew up." His shoulders shrug casually, but I see him trying to gauge my reaction.
"Yeah, where in the world could it be nicer?" I laugh at his sarcastic comment and we both smile at each other as we enter the house.
I hear him calling into the house, then a girl with red hair appears, carrying a baby.
"You must be Debbie, the little one is so adorable." When I hold out my hand, she just looks at Carl with her eyebrows still raised.
"What did you do to end up with her? Also my daughter's name is Franny and yes, I know condoms exist." Surprised, I don't know exactly how to answer, so I leave it to Carl.
"My tongue is magic, Debs. Too bad you won't find out yourself anytime soon, Derek has moved away. By the way, Franny seems hungry." I'm unsure of the dynamic between the two of them, as she turns away and walks away, I resist the urge to say goodbye.
"That was...nice." His hand pulling me towards the stairs distracts me.
"She's a real ray of sunshine, come on. The others aren't back yet, so you can be as loud as you want this time."
When we get upstairs, he leads me into his room and I look at the magazines, posters and little things scattered everywhere.
"Cleaning and you are definitely not friends, huh?" I laugh at my joke, but Carl has other plans than letting me inspect his room.
He puts his hands on my hips and pushes me against the closed door, my breath catches as his eyes find mine.
"Do you want to keep playing housemaid? Then put on a damn maid costume, otherwise keep your eyes on me." At his stern voice, I press my thighs together and, grinning, I drag my fingers across his chest once again.
"Would you like that? Me on the floor, my ass in the air, and no underwear? Oh wait, what a coincidence that I'm not wearing any now either." His eyebrows raise, I see his eyes darken with lust.
"Let's save this little fantasy for another time, right now I just want to see you on my cock." Smiling, I lean towards him and start kissing him. I loosen the belt I bought him and pull him closer to me by his waistband.
"I think I did well today. After all, I didn't complain about getting through the school day without underwear. Do I get my reward now?" Grinning, he takes off my top and looks at my lace bra.
"Everything you want." He drops to his knees in front of me and kisses his way along my thighs, lifts my skirt and presses a kiss to my folds. Slowly he moves his tongue higher and kisses my stomach, I lean my head against the door.
"Does that feel good?" I just nod, burying my hand in his hair as he puts his mouth on me again.
"Ahh- Carl, I want you now." His fingers stretch me, the wetness running down my legs, making me tremble.
"You got me, sweetheart. What do you want me to do?" His head lifts to look at me and I place my fingers around his chin, seeing the moisture on his lips.
"I've been prepared enough, I want your dick now. Let's see if it's as magical as your tongue." Grinning, he stands up and lifts me up, lays me on my back on his bed and lies down between my legs.
He places a few kisses on my legs, then stretches up on his elbows so he's hovering over me. Then he kisses my cheek and my lips, lets his tongue slide over them and lets me taste myself.
I run my fingers through his blonde hair and pull his body closer to me. When he pulls a condom out of his pocket, I hold my breath.
"You still want to do this?" His look calms all the worries I had. I nod, stroking my fingers over his heated cheek.
"I trust you." His next kiss is passionate, his hands gliding over my body, caressing every bit of exposed skin. I lift my back off the mattress and let him take off my bra. His head lowers to run his tongue over my navel. As he sucks on them, I moan softly.
One of his hands starts kneading my breasts and when I try to take off my skirt, he stops me.
"Leave it on, okay?" I kiss him in response.
His hand strokes my sides and my own hands rest on his shoulders as he presses the tip of his cock against my entrance.
"Ready, baby?" When I agree, he presses himself into me and for a moment I have to squint my eyes because it hurts.
Then I feel several gentle kisses on my cheek, my forehead and my lips. His attempts to distract me work and as I become more and more relaxed, he slides further into me.
Slowly he presses his hips against me, the stretch so great that I can feel him all the way into my stomach. He waits for a moment, whispering sweet things in my ears until they get dirty and I beg him to move.
My hands wrap around his shoulders as he thrusts into me for the first time, the air around us thickening as he grunts and a moan escapes me.
"You're doing so well, God, you feel so good." His hips move faster and faster, the pleasure spreads through my body and the wetter I feel, the easier he slides in and out of me.
"You are perfect, my perfect girl. Do you feel good?" His hands stroke my skin, gently pinching my nipples, playing with them and making me squirm beneath him.
As he grips my hips and pushes himself harder into me, my head starts to spin. My noises get louder.
"Carl- god, please go harder" And so he does, the room is filled with the sounds of our bodies and sweat forms on us.
"Baby, do you want to ride me? You have such pretty thighs." I nod and when he pulls out of me I can't think clearly, I just want him to fill me up again.
He leans back and as I stabilize myself on his shoulders, I sink back onto him. The feeling is even better that my eyes roll back. His hands grasp my hips, helping me move.
"That's right, baby. You're doing so good, riding my cock like the good girl you are." At his words, I tighten my grip on him and he curses as I move harder on top of him.
The faster I go, the more exhausting it becomes, but as I feel a knot forming in my stomach, I ride him so fast just to chase my pleasure.
Then suddenly as he hits my spot inside me over and over again, I go boneless on him and melt in his arms. My come drips all over him and as he continues to fuck me, reaching his own climax, I tremble in his grip.
"Just a few more thrusts, baby. Ah, keep holding on to me." Even though I have lost my strength, I move on him a few more times until he comes and I lay my head on his shoulder.
We're both breathing heavily, but everything feels so good, so warm and comfortable, that I don't want to move a single muscle anymore.
He carefully pulls out of me, I moan slightly at the loss. He gently lays me back on his pillow and gives me a kiss before throwing the condom away.
He pulls the blanket over us and puts his arm around me to pull me closer. I snuggle up to him and feel so safe that I quickly press my lips to his skin.
"That was wonderful." He also presses a kiss on my hair.
"That was incredible, you are the best. I can't wait to do it again." Our embrace becomes tighter. For a moment the room is silent.
When I whisper his name, he hums in response.
"I know it's cliche to say something like that after the first time. But I just feel it so much that it hurts to keep it to myself. I love you." As I lie on his chest I hear his heart stop for a moment and then it starts beating much faster.
"I- no one has ever said that to me before." When I raise my head and look at him, he doesn't look at me. Instead, his eyes are fouced on the ceiling.
"I just want you to know. I don't want to put any pressure on you to say it. I just thought you should hear it. You know, now that things are serious between us." Again he is silent and I start to worry, but then he looks at me.
"You are truly the most incredible person I have ever met. I consider myself very lucky." He smiles at me, then leans down and we kiss for a moment. It feels like heaven.
We lay there for a few minutes, just cuddling and telling each other how our day was. We laugh and as the sun slowly sets, I start to get dressed.
"I wish I could stay here with you. But you know what my parents are like." He leans back on his elbow, watching me get dressed and contact my parents to pick me up.
"Hmm, I think we would do it again. If you stayed here tonight, I mean." I smile at him, sit down on his bed for a moment and ruffle his hair.
"I wouldn't mind, darling." The nickname makes him blush and when he leans forward to kiss me, I playfully push him away.
"I have to go, are you coming down with me?" He nods, feigning annoyance, and as we walk out of his room, he puts his arm around my waist and pulls me towards him.
He steals his kiss there, but more than that he steals my heart.
We smile at each other and for this moment everything is just perfect. We go downstairs and just as we are back in the living room we hear a door open loudly.
A visibly drunk man stumbles in. I see Carl tense up next to me, staring at the stranger angrily. I quietly lean towards him to whisper my question.
"Who is that?" When he rolls his eyes, I get a bad feeling.
"That's my father, great isn't it?" The man in front of me is dirty, has unkempt hair and an unpleasant smile on his face.
"Should I ask my parents if you can stay overnight?" My gaze is more focused on the man than on Carl.
But he just shakes his head, and just as he is about to answer, the man sees us too.
"Oh, my son! It's so good to see you, not really, but I'll take your bed. Fiona has mine. Is that your little girlfriend? She looks expensive, very good catch. How much money did you rip her off? I hope it's worth it to go through all this drama." I frown in confusion, but when Carl freezes next to me, I become uncertain.
"What does he mean by that?" This time my gaze is directed solely at Carl.
"Nothing, he's drunk-" but before he can finish, the man does.
"How rude of me, I am Frank. The proud father of this child, at least one of my descendants has made something of himself and used his talent. He has my good genes, the good looks and I teach him the tricks. Like exploiting an innocent, very very rich girl for money. It doesn't bother you, I hope? You seem to have enough, but I hope my son returns the favor to you."
The words catch me so off guard that I can't move. I don't believe anything this man says until I see the guilty look on Carl's face.
"W-what? That's a lie, right? Tell me he's lying, Carl." As he runs his hands through his hair and tries to answer me, Frank speaks again.
"Oh, you haven't confessed to her yet? My fault, I should have waited. I didn't think you would humiliate this girl for so long. I told you this wouldn't end well." But Carl ignores him completely when he notices me moving away from him.
"Wait, I'm sorry. It wasn't like that-" But I interrupt him, already feeling tears gathering in my eyes.
"So what happened? You act like you don't want any money from me and-" Carl's look becomes frustrated.
"You offered me your money! You said if I matched it, everything would be fine for you." I'm almost speechless, is this all a nightmare?
"Are you serious? I offered it to you because you weren't asking for it. And now I find out it was your plan from the beginning? You just talked to me, just spent time with me to get my money? Who does that?" Frank's voice intervenes.
"I invented the strategy, my dear. It's turning out to be quite useful." But I don't pay attention to him, I just look at Carl.
"Please, I'm sorry. Yes, it was meant that way in the beginning, but it's different now. I-" My tears flow when he admits it and any feeling of happiness disappears. All that remains is betrayal and sadness.
"You what? What am I saying, you were probably happy that I only wanted you in return. I'm such an idiot. You didn't just take my money, you took my first time too!" As he comes towards me, I step back.
"Listen to me, I didnt force you to do all this for me. You wanted it." The more he talks the more desperate I feel and the greater my anger becomes.
"You idiot! I thought you liked me! I thought you finally noticed me too." My sobs get louder and my vision blurs. When he tries to grab my face, I slap him.
"My cue to go. I can see that you're sorting it out between yourselves just fine." Frank's footsteps fading away are nothing compared to the sound of my heart breaking.
"I like you, I really like you. At first it wasn't my intention to start a relationship with you, but then I got to know you and-" Every word that escapes him is only worse.
"Stop talking! You know what the worst thing is that I liked you for so long before you even talked to me. And I thought it was a miracle when you first spoke to me in the libary. I should have listened to the others, you only care about yourself!" I wipe the tears from my cheeks, wishing I could be anywhere but here.
Then before he can say anything, I turn around and run out of the house. But I hear him following me.
"Wait! Don't just walk away, I have to get this straight. Hey!" He catches me, turns me around and holds my tear-stained face in his hands.
"I'm an idiot, I know that. I'm sorry for hurting you. I- God, I love you. You hear me? I love you too. Please stay." But I just shake my head and try to free myself from his grip.
"How do I know if that isn't a lie too? You've betrayed me, I can't talk to you now." When my car pulls up, I get in without turning around. I don't look back, even though his loud curse can be heard throughout the whole neighborhood.
Your pov
I spend the next few days without saying much, but I cried almost the whole time.
I miss him incredibly, not a day has gone by in the last few months when I haven't seen him and now I've been alone for three days.
I wish he was here, but on the other hand I am so hurt and feel terrible. He is the reason for this.
I wish I had never found out. I wish he had never done it, never lied to me. Didn't use me for money, but worst of all, I don't know if he even likes me.
Today is the first day that I go back to school. Even though I put on make-up, choose a nice outfit and listen to my favorite songs to distract myself, I can only think of him.
His blonde hair, his beautiful eyes, the way his lips felt. How he felt inside me. Then I remember that he loves me and how he finally said it, something I have wanted to hear for so long.
But then I think about what he did and everything feels empty again.
As I enter the school, my friends come to meet me. They already know what happened, they all hug me and I feel a little better.
Until I see him.
And he sees me too. It takes all my effort to avert my gaze. To get my books out of my cupboard, but then I have to stop because he is not standing next to me offering to carry them.
I take it myself, close my door, but before I can go any further, he is standing in front of me. My heart stops. Oh, how his eyes shine.
"Do you need help?" His eyes focus on the books and I have to swallow several times before I can answer.
"No, I have to go to class now." But as I try to walk past him, he stops me.
"You don't answer my texts, you don't call me back. I'm not allowed into your house and you avoid me at school. What can I do? Please tell me what I need to do, so you forgive me." I laugh, but it is without humor.
"What can you do? Move."
I can see his shock, but he still doesn't step aside.
"Can't you hear me? I said-" but he walks toward me until I'm forced to lean my back against the lockers.
His eyes find mine.
"I can't sleep. And when I do, I dream of you. There's a - a hole in my heart that only you can fill. It hurts and I hate not being with you. It's even worse to be here, when you don't look at me the way you usually do. You don't smile at me, God, you don't look like you're in love with me anymore. It's hell."
Tears gather in my eyes, his words are so desperate, it hurts to see him like this.
"Maybe you should have thought about that before you took advantage of me. Before you slept with me." A tear runs down my cheek and I know my mascara is smudging.
"I know, I know. And I feel so bad, I'll do anything to make it right. Just tell me."
When I look into his eyes, my heart also hurts.
"Move, Carl. I can't see you now." This time he lets go of me and I go to class with tears in my eyes.
Your pov
It's been four weeks since we last spoke, but it doesn't hurt any less to see him. Even if I don't let him talk to me, he doesn't give up.
He puts flowers in my locker, chocolate, and notes full of apologies and sweet promises.
Everything warms my heart, but it still feels like this money thing is unresolved between us. I know now that he likes me, very much in fact, as he makes it clear, but that doesn't change the real problem.
That he used me for my money.
As I leave school that day, I feel exhausted and, as I often do, I wish I had his arms around me.
Holding me tight, his lips kissing me, loving me.
As I wait for my father's car, I suddenly hear his familiar throat clearing. With my heart pounding, I turn around and see him smiling uncertainly at me.
"I know what I had to do and now I've done it. Here." He gives me an envelope and I take it uncertainly.
"Carl, your letters are flattering, but-" He quickly interrupts me.
"No, it's something else. Open it." The deja vu hits me unexpectedly and I slowly open the envelope, the content leaves me speechless.
"What is that supposed to be?" It's rhetorical, but I ask anyway.
"All the money I owe you. What you've kindly given me, I pay it back. Every cent. You can count." He looks so proud, I almost have to laugh.
"How- did you rob a bank?" He grins contentedly at my reaction.
"An old grandma." This time I laugh and he comes closer to me, slowly taking my hands.
"No, seriously. How did you do that?" He looks at me lovingly.
"Working in the kitchen every day after school, I found a part-time job with Fiona. The payment is bad, but it was worth it. I understand that money was the problem and well, that I wasn't honest to you." As I lower the envelope, we look at each other.
"Promise, no more secrets?"
He smiles and suddenly the world is a brighter place.
"Promise, but we continue one of our agreements." I raise my eyebrows questioningly, seeing him grin as he leans toward me, his breath brushing against my lips and he whispers:
"I'll still spend my breaks with you in the janitor's room."
The laughter that escapes me gets interrupted, when his lips meet mine.
<<Chapter 17
Tumblr media
“You look so beautiful!” Olivia gushes over you after she tucks the last braid into place, watching you stand and do a little twirl in your white dress.
“You think so? It’s not too much?”
“Too much? Girl, it’s your wedding day. You can’t be too much!”
Smiling, you smooth out your dress as you take in your reflection. You’re marrying Frankie. Your Frankie. Frankie, whom you’ve been in love with since you were 19. This is real. It’s happening.
Ok, technically, in the eyes of the law, it happened a few weeks ago at a courthouse. But there’s something special about gathering in front of your close friends and family, wearing a beautiful dress, and getting to repeat those vows in front of everyone. A soft knock at the door brings you out of your head and Olivia walks across the room to peak her head outside.
“Mosa, it’s the photographer. Are you ready for the first look?”
“It’s HERmosa!” Frankie’s muffled yell comes from behind the door and Olivia smirks.
One last glance in the mirror at your reflection and you nod, turning your back towards the door. You hear some shuffling as Frankie is ushered in backwards and the photographers get into place.
“Turn in 3..2..1..Turn!” Olivia says and then steps back.
You turn, your eyes finding his almost immediately, as if they were drawn there. He’s dressed in a tailored suit, fitting his form perfectly, his grandfather’s kerchief folded and poking from the pocket. But what you’re really interested in is his face, his eyes growing wider and glossier the longer he looks at you.
“Hermosa, you…you’re beautiful,” Frankie says, awestruck.
“You’re just figuring that out?” You say behind a smile.
“No, I mean I always knew but…wow.”
He walks up to you and cups your cheek, running his thumb across it as Olivia hisses something about makeup from the corner of the room. But you couldn’t care less. Frankie was here, marrying you. This is all you’ve dreamt of for well over 10 years. A tear runs down Frankie’s cheek and you wipe it away.
“Are you ok?”
He sniffs and smiles. “I’m the best I’ve felt in a long time. I just…I only wish we would’ve done this sooner.”
“We did. We got married in the courthouse, remember?”
He smiles at you. “I meant more that we never…that we stayed together since that first kiss.”
“Me too. But we can’t dwell on what-ifs. We can only think about the here-and-nows.”
Frankie tips your chin up and presses a light kiss to your lips, the clicks from the camera going crazy. You pose for photos for several minutes before Olivia ushers everyone from the room, winking at you when she says she’ll give you 10 minutes of alone time before she came to get you. The second the door closes, Frankie pushes his tongue in your mouth, pulling you as close as he can.
“I can’t mess this dress up, Frankie,” You say pouting.
“That’s ok. I can work with that.” Frankie grips your hips and spins you around, bending you over the back of the chair and clasping a hand to your mouth as he takes you, your hands desperately trying to reach behind you to pull him in closer.
15 minutes later, Olivia knocks on the door and enters hesitantly, smirking when she sees you smoothing down your dress, Frankie’s face more pink than when she had left.
“It’s time,” she says, tossing her thumb over her shoulder and looking at Frankie pointedly. He turns to you and kisses your cheek.
“See you out there?”
“Raging sharks couldn’t keep me away.”
He kisses you once more before Olivia starts clearing her throat. When he straightens up a curl falls on his forehead and you softly push it back to where it was, feeling Frankie’s eyes on you the entire time. He opens the door and looks outside befire turning back to you.
“Your gift is here.”
“You don’t have to get me a gift, Frank-”
Santi walks through the door, dressed in a nice tux and smiling from ear to ear. You hadn’t seen him since the day he confessed his love for you and you had missed him terribly. Frankie was your best friend, but Santi was a close second and you’d hated the idea of getting married without him there.
“Santi?”
“Hey, Hermosa.”
You catch a glimpse of Frankie’s smile before he closes the door as you wrap your arms around Santi, feeling him squeeze you back just as hard. Separating a few moments later, you dab under your eyes as you try to choke back tears.
“If I smudge my makeup, Olivia may kill me.”
Santi laughs. “She’s Benny’s girl, right? She’s perfect for him.”
“She’s really great…but how are you here?”
“I uh…Frankie called me a few weeks ago and told me…well, everything. I’m sorry I was screening my calls, Hermosa. I just…I needed time.”
“I understand. But…you’re here now! Are you ok?”
“I’m doing alright, Hermosa. Actually, pretty good.”
“You’ll have to tell me all about her.”
He laughs. “I will. But uh, hey - do you need a Man of Honor? If…if that would…be ok?”
“I would love to have to as my Man of Honor! But…Benny already agreed and I don’t know how to tell him -”
Santi waves his hand. “Benny was in on this. He knows and already said it was ok with him as long as you wanted it.”
Your eyes go wide. “Wait. Benny knew you were coming and he didn’t tell me?”
“Yeah.”
You gasp. “That bitch!”
Santi laughs his hardest yet. “So…”
“Let’s go, Man of Honor.”
The next thing you know, Frankie’s kissing you, everyone whooping and cheering, Aurelia throwing more flower petals into the air as they announce “Mr. and Mrs. Morales.” The rest of the night was like a blur, between photos and eating, first dances and cake, you barely had time to sit until things started to wind down long into the night. When you tried to help clean up, Olivia literally slapped your hand away and glared at you.
“Absolutely not. Benny!” He walks over and play groans when she says she’s recruited him to help clean up. She pretends to twist his nipple when he starts to complain and he yelps, high pitched and smiling as they play fight for a few moments before he gives in, grabbing plates and stacking them to wash.
Frankie looks exhausted and he’s limping a little, so you beg him to not carry you over the threshold. “You did that when we got courthouse married.”
“Yeah but-”
“No. I’m not having you throw your hip out on our wedding day. Not from this.”
He chokes and smiles, giving in, a dark twinkle in his eye. “Alright. If you insist.” But by the time you’d made it upstairs and gotten your clothes off, both of you were too exhausted to do much of anything aside from a shower and literally fall into bed. But Frankie made up for lost time the next morning, waking you with what he claims was already your third orgasm of the day, his curls mussed up from being buried between your legs. He presses his body to yours, swallowing your whimpers before he adds his own, hips shaking with release.
You spend your honeymoon at the Miller family cabin upstate, the only clothing you wear being one of Frankie’s shirts and sometimes his hat, which drives him wild. He celebrates another sobriety milestone while there, smiling wide at your praise. When you get back home, you can see he has an extra pep in his step, always a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth, always wanting to touch you, whether a hand to your wrist, a touch to your lower back, or a smack on your ass, chuckling as you yelp and smack him back. When you ask him why he looks exceptionally happy, he credits you. “I finally got the girl of my dreams, the love of my life.”
—-
Frankie and you settle into a comfortable routine. You were no strangers to living together, the adjustment taking no time at all. Life goes on as normal, except now, you get to live it with Frankie, no longer separated by a stupid argument, misconceptions, or a bitch of an ex wife. This was exactly where you were meant to be.
Several months later, Frankie follows you into the family restroom at Target, slinging your purse over his shoulder as he rifles through the bag of stuff you’d just purchased.
“Pink dye first, right?” He asks, raising his eyebrows as he looks at you.
“Yeah. They’re more accurate supposedly.”
Frankie tears open the box and studies the directions, as if he hadn’t done this several times already. He opens one of the sticks and hands it to you, turning around to give you a little privacy.
“Start the timer,” you say as you zip up your pants. Frankie hits go on his timer and turns to face you, a pregnancy stick held face down in your hand. He can see your nerves, your worry and concern on your face.
“It’ll be ok, Hermosa.”
“Yeah I know. But what if it isn’t?”
“It will be-”
“We’ve been trying for months, Frankie. I know the OB said to try for a year before fertility testing but-”
Frankie walks up to you and pulls you to him, applying a gentle pressure as he hugs you close, kissing the side of your head. “If it’s negative, then we keep trying, ok? It hasn’t been a year yet and sometimes these things take time.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. Will told me that it took them months to conceive Liam. And they were trying too. Just…breathe. In….out…”
You breathe with him for a few breaths. “You always were annoyingly calm in a crisis.”
He smiles. “Wouldn’t help to freak out behind the joystick.”
You open your mouth to reply, but his timer cuts you off. Your mouth jams shut, nerves taking over your body as Frankie holds your gaze.
“If it says negative, we can keep trying. Remember that. I love you no matter what, Hermosa.” You nod, taking a deep breath. “Ready?”
“Ready.” You flip the test over and look, 2 bright pink lines staring back at you. Tears immediately fall as you laugh, turning the test around to show Frankie, who yells, grabbing you up in his arms and hugging you tightly. He kisses you for a moment, pressing his forehead to yours.
“I fucking love you, Hermosa.”
“I love you, Frankie.”
He yanks the door open and whoops loudly, people turning to look at him as you follow him out of the bathroom.
“I’m going to be a father again!” He pumps his fists in the air, smiling from ear to ear as people cheer, clapping and congratulating you as they finish their purchases, one older couple handing you a gift card on their way out, telling you to spoil that baby.
—-
Frankie was hesitant at first with your pregnancy, despite being so supportive and actually wanting a child with you. A couple months in, you finally ask him why he seems afraid to touch you, that you won’t break. He finally confesses to you that when Elizabeth was pregnant, she did nothing but yell at him, belittling him and wouldn’t let him touch her at all, not her belly, not even to rub her back or feet. She called him horrible names and would blame it on the hormones. Your heart breaks for him and you have no words. Well, you have words but they aren’t nice ones. Instead, you sit next to him on the bed, leaning back onto one arm, and take his hand with the other, gently placing it on your lower belly. His eyes light up as he looks at your tiny for the moment bump, tears welling in his eyes as he brings his other hand up to take the other side. He pulls your shirt up just enough to see your belly skin, giving it a tiny kiss.
“Hey, little one. You grow strong in there and don’t give your mom too much of a hard time.”
From then on, Frankie is all in. Whatever you need, he gets it, even if it’s a ridiculous request at 3am. He’s constantly touching your growing belly, talking to it as much as you do. He finds Aurelia’s old crib in the attic, a few boxes of baby stuff and a bassinet up there as well. He sets up the nursery under your instruction, letting Aurelia help with the decorations when she comes on the weekends. You decide to wait to find out the sex of the baby, thinking it would be something fun to do. So instead you call it “Bean”.
“Think Bean will like this?” Frankie asks, pointing to a baby swing.
“They might, but Frankie, that swing is nearly $150. We can’t afford that.”
His shoulder’s slump but he agrees. “Maybe we can check the thrift shop. It’s the one thing Will didn’t toss our way.”
He was there for all of the classes too, birthing ones, breathing ones, even the hypnobirthing ones. He signed up for a “birthing partners” class, learning the best ways to support you not just during labor and delivery, but during the 4th trimester, or immediately postpartum. He helped you practice your meditations, making sure you had everything you needed and that you remember to take your prenatal and drink enough water.
When you’re 8 months pregnant, getting winded from walking down the hall, Frankie gets a call from his boss at Flyboyz on his day off, asking him to come in. He grabs his hat and gives you a quick kiss before leaving, reminding you to drink water. He’d been working a lot lately, trying to make extra money so he can stay home with you and the baby for the first month. You’re not sure how long he’ll be gone, so you plop yourself down on your bed, pulling over the basket of baby clothes that still have to be sorted and you get to work, separating the sizes, long sleeve vs short, nightgowns from onesies. A couple hours later, the front door opens and Frankie slams it behind him, the picture frames rattling on the walls. You set aside the footie pajamas you were folding and go to stand up, but Frankie comes storming into the bedroom before you can move, anger coming off of him in waves.
“Frankie?”
He yanks his hat from his head, tossing it onto his dresser, knocking some things off of it. “I can’t fucking believe her!”
Struggling a little, you manage to get up and cross the room to him, placing your hand on his mid back. He recoils, anger flashing in his eyes but it’s not directed at you. Unsure of what happened, you know he needs to calm down before he can tell you. You grab an ice cube out of your glass of water and turn to Frankie.
“Give me your hand.”
He looks at you, eyebrow raised. “What?”
“Just do it.”
He stares at you for a moment before shoving his hand out. You flip it palm up, opening his fingers and place the ice cube in his palm. He yelps, but you hold his hand firmly so he won’t drop the ice.
“What the fuck, Hermosa?”
“The cold will help reset your nervous system.”
“I don’t think- it’s too fucking cold, Hermosa.”
“Just another few seconds.”
His chest, which had been heaving a moment ago, has slowed down, the anger still there but at a manageable level. You tip his hand and grab the falling ice into your own palm, putting it in the sink in the bathroom before coming back to the bed and trying to sit on it. Frankie is there, taking your hand and helping you into bed. He goes to stand but you squeeze his hand and pull him until he sighs, sitting on the edge, his shoulders slumped.
“How do you feel?”
“Fucking angry, but…the edge is gone. Ice…who fucking knew?”
“So..may I ask what happened?”
His eyes darken with repressed outrage. “I thought I was getting extra work. Instead, my pilot’s license has been suspended, pending a review.”
You sit up quickly, eyes going wide. “What??”
He nods, his jaw clenching. “Apparently, someone made a claim that I was using when I flew some clients and now they have to investigate.”
You knew that Frankie had been clean over a year, that he wasn’t using at all. “Oh, Frankie. Wait..who made the claim?”
He looks at you. “It was anonymous but I know it was Elizabeth.” He says her name with absolute disgust and hate that you nearly pull back from him.
“Elizabeth? Would she-”
“Oh come on, Hermosa. You don’t think it was her? I’ve been clean for well over a year. She’s the only one who would have known that I used that would make claims.”
“What about Rick?”
Frankie shakes his head. “Nah. He left Flyboyz while you were…out of town. I told him he had to leave or I would report him for selling. He started to threaten to bring me down with him, but then remembered you were…not in my life and he could see the rock bottom in me, I guess. So he backed off, just left to go elsewhere. There’s no way it’s him. It’s her. It’s always her causing shit. I’m so fucking sick of it!”
Placing a hand on his back, you start to rub it, adding in little scratches here and there like he likes. “She is a bitch.”
“I just got my license back. I worked so hard on that.” He puts his face in his hands, resting his elbows on his legs. You scoot towards him wrapping your arm around him.
“I know you did. But you said suspended? That doesn’t mean revoked, right?”
He shakes his head. “No, it doesn’t.”
“So…what does it mean?”
“It means, I can’t fly until it’s reinstated. I have to pee in a cup at random times during the week for 6 months to prove I’m clean before they will lift the suspension.”
“Well there you go!”
He looks up at you, his eyebrows pulling together. “There I go, what? We can’t afford for me to not have this income, Hermosa.”
“We’ll be ok-”
“You’re about to have a baby. Your income won’t happen for a bit, and that’s fine, but we needed this extra money and now I can’t provide that. All because of my bitch of an ex!”
“Frankie, we’ll be ok. If we have to borrow money, we can.”
“I’m not borrowing money.”
“Fine. Then I will borrow it.”
“No, I’ll…I’ll figure something out.”
“Frankie-”
“Just…can we just stop for tonight? I’m trying to process this.”
You open your mouth to argue but then see the exhausted look on his face. “Sure. Why don’t you come talk to us? That always makes you feel better.”
Leaning back against the headboard, you watch as Frankie scoots up the bed, getting level with your belly as you turn on your side so you’re not being squished. He chats to the baby for a while, about everything and nothing and by the time he’s done, his shoulders are relaxed and he’s not as angry anymore.
Elizabeth never fully admits to being the one to make the claim, but you see the look on her face through the car window when you make your next exchange for Aurelia after Frankie confronts her and you know she did it. There’s nothing you can say or do except wait it out. Frankie getting his license back will be all the revenge you’ll need.
—---- (Skip to the next line if you don’t want to read about labor. It’s not terribly graphic at all, but I know it’s not everyone’s thing)-------
“I never thought I’d have to beg you to have sex with me!” You stomp your foot, furious that Frankie won’t follow the doctor’s advice.
It had been a few weeks since his license was revoked and you were a week past your due date and not happy about it.
“Hermosa, I don’t-”
“Want to hurt me, I know, I know. But the midwife even said that sex is the best way to induce labor because of the prostaglandins in your semen.”
“You make it sound so sexy.”
“Frankie,” you pinch the bridge of your nose, taking a deep sigh. “I am the size of a house. I am miserable and sweaty and I haven’t seen my feet in months and I just want to have this baby already. If it’s my belly, I can turn around-”
“You are fucking gorgeous.”
“Then please?”
Frankie studies you for a long moment, his shoulders starting to slump and that’s when you knew you had him. “Alright, fine. We can try it. But we’re going slow, taking our time, ok?”
“No arguments here.”
Contractions started within an hour of Frankie cumming inside of you. You weren’t sure at first what you were feeling, but it sort of felt like a bad period cramp, so you assumed this must be it. Frankie timed them all for you, helping you breathe as they got more intense and closer together, and when they were close enough apart, Frankie helped you to his truck and drove to the hospital. In between contractions, you watched him as he drove, expertly winding his way through traffic, a look of focus on his face, a little furrow between his brow the only indication that this was not a normal day behind the wheel. How lucky you were to have this man, who can be calm in stressful situations, want to spend his life with you.
“What?” Frankie glances sideways at you before turning back to the road.
“You’re cute when you focus.”
A smile pulls at the corner of his mouth. “Remember how cute I am when you’re in transition.”
Before you know it, you’re in a labor and delivery room, barely spending any time in triage before they whisked you away. Hospitals can be a frustrating place to have a baby. Each nurse walks in and tells you to rest between contractions, try to get some sleep when you can, but then a new nurse comes along within an hour, always rousing you from sleep to take your blood pressure or put their fingers where you didn’t want them. You’d finally had enough of the latter and told a nurse to kindly fuck off, and denied internal exams unless it was a medical emergency. Frankie was by your side the entire labor, putting counter pressure on your hips when you needed it, pulling your hair from your face, sneaking you snacks because they forbid food and you said you’d chomp off your own fingers if they didn’t let you eat. Transition was hard, but all of a sudden, you knew it was time to push. Following your body, you get on all fours, taking your calming breaths, but then realizing that Frankie was not next to you. Turning your head, you see him, wide eyed and backing towards the door.
“I’ll just-” He points his thumb over his shoulder at the door.
“No, please. I need you here with me.” Another contraction has you breathing again and it’s a minute before he replies.
“You want me here?”
“Yes. I need you, Frankie.”
His eyes start to water over and it doesn’t occur to you then, but later that night it’l come to you - he wasn’t trying to dodge out of the delivery. He was having a flashback to when Elizabeth kicked him out of the room right when Aurelia was making her way into the world, and your heart hurt all over again. Frankie is at your side in an instant, turning to yell for the nurse who had surprisingly not come in for some random check.
“No time!” You yell, letting out a low groan, a technique you learned to help move baby down and out. Frankie’s face slides into focus mode and he moves behind you, just in time to catch the baby as it comes sliding out. He gathers the baby up, holding it close as it screams into the world. The nurse comes running in then, having heard the baby crying as you turn onto your back, arms outstretched to hold your baby, skin to skin.
“Baby is here! I didn’t even know you were transitioning! You were pretty quiet.”
The nurse bustles around and does her thing while Frankie transfers the baby to your bare chest. Tears stream down your face as you look at Frankie, who has tears of his own. He kisses the top of your head. “I am so proud of you, Hermosa.”
A few moments pass, the baby calming against your chest. “Hey Frankie? Is the baby a boy or girl?”
He slaps his hand to his forehead. “I forgot to look! I was so focused on catching the baby and whether it was breathing and not dropping it that I don’t think I looked! Here.” He lifts the hip of the baby and smiles.
“We have a son. I have a son!”
—---No more labor/delivery details—---
Luis Christian Francisco Morales was born perfect. 10 little fingers and 10 little toes, skin glowing. He was the perfect combination of you both, although you say he favors Frankie mostly.
You both settle into your roles as new parents, a lot of it being new to Frankie too, since Elizabeth had denied him so much. He was determined to not miss out on things this time, making sure you both had everything you needed and watching Luis when he stayed awake between feeds so you could have a nap. Aurelia cries the first time she sees Luis, big ugly sobs, and when Frankie finally calms her down enough to ask what’s wrong, she simply says “He…he’s…s-so so cute!” She happily takes up the mantle of “Big Sister” when she’s with you. Once, you wake from your nap only to find all 3 of them sleeping, Luis curled up on Frankie’s broad chest, Aurelia tucked onto his other side. You snap a photo and then quietly leave the room, taking the time to actually shower.
About a month in, Frankie comes back from dropping Aurelia with her mom. His eyebrows were pulled together in confusion as he stares down at his phone.
“Everything ok?” You ask, shifting the bottle you were feeding Luis with so it was a better angle.
“Yeah. Uh…Santi just texted me.”
“Oh yeah? Everything ok?”
“Uh..he says congrats on Luis, that he’s the cutest, and that he was out of service for a bit and he’s sorry he didn’t text earlier.”
“That’s ok. I know he’s busy.”
Frankie is quiet for a moment. “He offered me some work.”
“Work?”
“Well, not just me. Benny, Will, and Tom too.”
“What kind of work?” When he doesn’t answer, you look up at him. He kicks his shoes off and sits next to you on the couch.
“Consulting.” His eyes don’t meet yours, focusing instead on his fingers, where he starts to pick at the skin around his nails.
“Consulting.” You say in disbelief.
“Yeah.”
“Wait, like a mission?”
Frankie shrugs. “No? I mean, it’s just scoping out a place and looking for weaknesses. We give our report to the government he works with and then come back. Easy peasy.”
“If it’s so easy peasy, why aren’t you looking at me?”
He takes a deep breath and let’s it out slowly before looking at you. “It’s for a week. Just trying to find holes in a fence.”
“And why do they need you?”
“They need a pilot.”
“You don’t have your license.”
“It probably doesn’t matter over there.”
“Frankie, I don’t-”
“I’ts $17k, Hermosa. We need the money.”
“I don’t like it. So much can go wrong. Who’s house is it? Definitely no one that’s a stand up citizen. What happens if they find you first? No, I don’t like it.”
“Just..he’s coming to town tomorrow and we’re going to chat about it at Benny’s fight. Let me ask some more questions.”
“I don’t like it, Frankie.”
“I know. Just..let me talk to Pope.”
—----
It’s late the next night and you start to pace the floor of your bedroom, wondering when he’ll be back. He’d texted you to tell you Benny had won the fight and they were stopping at the bar for a quick drink before Olivia takes him home to play nurse.
That had been 2 hours ago.
The door finally opens downstairs and you quietly make your way to the kitchen, where you were hearing Frankie move around.
“Did I wake you?”
You shake your head. “I was awake. Luis is asleep.”
“Good, good. He go down ok?”
“Yeah, actually in his bassinet, but Frankie? How did it go?”
He gets a glass of water, chugging half of it before setting the glass down on the counter. “It’s just a recce. No live fire.”
“There’s a possibility of people shooting at you??”
“I mean, we are casing a place. It’s always possible if guards see you or-”
“No.”
He looks at you. “Hermosa, we need the money.”
“No.”
“I don’t have a job. We need this.”
“No money is worth your life, Frankie. None of your lives.”
“I won’t be in any major danger. I’ve done worse.”
“Yeah but you didn’t have a family then.”
“I’ll be fine.”
“No. No, I don’t like this, no.”
Frankie puts his hands on his hips, cocking one hip back as he looks at you. “We’re behind on bills.”
“So? I’ll borrow some money and you can stay.”
“Hermosa-”
“Or I can get another job? A new client. I can-”
“You just had a baby, so no.”
“Then I can-”
“Hermosa.” He says it firmly, that hip still cocked back as his eyes find yours, resolve in them.
“You’ve…you’ve already said yes, haven’t you?”
His tongue comes out to swipe across his bottom lip. “We leave Thursday.”
Silence stretches between you both as you stare at him in disbelief. “I can’t believe you made that decision without me.”
“I made the decision for us. We need the money.”
“Oh, fuck you and the money! I said I could borrow it. You’re just being stubborn!”
“I’m taking responsibility! We needed money and this just happens to come our way? I have to take it.”
“So you’re saying it’s fate that Santi texted you to lure you down there with the promise of $17k? You’re telling me that it’s just consulting and nothing else? Can you promise me that?”
He shrugs. “That was the original deal.”
“But can you promise me?”
He studies you for a moment, his eyes lingering on yours. “I’m going, Hermosa.”
And with that, you turn on your heel and walk out of the kitchen, closing the door behind you, wishing you could slam it.
The next couple days were torture. You kept trying to convince Frankie to stay, convince all of them to stay. You didn’t want any of them going. But they all said the same thing that Frankie said. “It’s just consulting.” Thursday morning, Tom comes to pick up Frankie pretty early. He leans over to kiss you in bed and you take one more shot at trying to get him to stay. Your fingers wind into his curls as you pull him to you, deepening the chaste kiss he had started.
“You can still stay,” you say, your voice barely a whisper.
“I’ll be back in a week, Hermosa. I love you.”
Tears streaming down your face, you reply. “I love you too. Please don’t die. Don’t any of you die.”
Frankie chuckles. “We’ll be fine. I’ll call you in a couple of days once we’re settled, ok?”
—----
Except, Frankie did not call in a couple of days. Neither did any of the others, nor had they reached out to Stacy, Molly, or Olivia. There was no one to call, no contact. They needed it that way for whatever consultation they were on. Stacey brought the kids over and Olivia came too, all of you opting to stay together and support each other at least during the day. As the few days stretched into a week, which stretched into nearly another, Olivia split her time between you and Stacy’s, offering to watch the kids so you each could have a moment to yourselves. She was at Stacy’s tonight, Luis snuggled and tucked in beside you as you channel surf the tv, landing on nothing in particular. It was day 10 and about 2am so all of the infomercials were on. You landed on one for some random kitchen gadget when your phone rings. You jump, grabbing for your phone to quickly hit the silent button before it wakes Luis. It was an unknown number, but definitely foreign and so you pick up right away.
“Frankie?”
“Hermosa,” he breathes a sigh of relief, his voice wavering on the last syllable of your name.
“Are you ok? Is everyone alright? Fuck, I’ve been terrified out of my mind.”
“I know, I know. I’m sorry. Things got…out of hand. I can explain more when I get home.”
“I understand. But you’re ok?”
“I’m ok. A little banged up but ok.”
“Everyone else?”
The way he’s silent has your throat closing up, making it difficult to speak. “Frankie?”
“It’s Tom.”
While Tom and you never were best friends, there’s no way you would’ve wished death on the man, nor would you have wanted to have his girls without a father.
—----
Frankie’s mom takes Luis while you drive to the airport, there to pick up Frankie as Olivia and Stacy were going to get Benny and Will. You had experienced all of the emotions these past 10 days, mostly anger and fear, but when you heard his voice, a part of you caved. You just wanted him home and were grateful that he was alive.
You spot Benny first, towering over a majority of the crowd as people file out security and head towards baggage claim. Then you see it - a dark blue standard heating oil cap bobbing next to Benny and suddenly, you’re running, pushing people out of the way as you run towards him, Frankie seeing you at the last moment, dropping his bag to gather you in his arms, burying his face in your hair. Olivia and Stacy copy your actions, Will hissing when Stacy throws her arms around him. He mutters “I’m ok.” before pulling her to him. Pulling back, you look up into Frankie’s black brown eyes, taking in all the features of his face, his laugh lines, the spot where his one dimple pops up, the fact that he had the audacity to shave his beard.
“You shaved,” you said simply, running a finger along his jawline.
“Yeah. But I’ll grow it back just for you.”
His lips crash to yours, his hands cupping the sides of your face as you press your body against his, fingers twisting in his shirt.
“I’m still mad at you,” you breathe out between kisses.
“Fair enough.”
Hugs were exchanged all around before everyone went to their homes. On the drive home, Frankie tells you everything, how it was just a consult but then they decided to try and do it themselves, how it would’ve all been fine if they hadn’t missed their window, or if Tom had listened when he said it was too much weight for the helicopter.
“Wait..you crashed?”
“Yeah. It was just a little crash.”
“Frankie!”
“It’s me. I landed us…mostly fine. We all walked away.”
He explains about the money and the people from the village, and how they had to trek up the fucking Andes mountains and down the other side. How a young man from the village had wanted revenge and got it, dying himself in the process. How they carried Tom down the side of the mountain, leaving a ton of money there, only to make it to safety and come back with a new chopper to get the money and safely make it back in a whole other country, which is where he called you from. By the end of the story you’re silent, tears quietly falling down your face as you realize how easily they all could’ve died on the side of those mountains. How one of them did.
“We each put about $5mil in a trust fund for Tom’s girls, made sure Molly was taken care of. It’s what Tom would’ve wanted and it’s…it’ll never be enough.”
“Hey,” you squeeze his thigh and he looks at you, tears on his cheeks. “You are not to blame. Every one of you knew what you were doing, knew there were risks. And while I can’t say who shot first as I wasn’t there, Frankie, it was self defense. And, I’m sorry, but knowing you and knowing Tom? I’d bet money on him shooting first.”
Frankie nods. “Yeah I guess so…. are you mad at me still?”
“I was all prepared to be so pissed at you, but honestly? I’m just glad to have you here and alive.”
Frankie spends the next hour between your legs and you spend the hour after that washing his hair and tending to his arguably minor wounds. Once you were clean and dressed, you made him something to eat, as you’d have to go get Luis shortly. When you set his glass of water down, he grips your wrist, pulling you into his lap.
“How are you feeling? Do you need to call your sponsor?”
He shakes his head. “Surprisingly, no. I think I’m just so grateful to be alive. And there’s one more thing.”
“What?” You ask nervously.
Frankie leans in closer, speaking low in your ear. “We got the rest of the money.”
“The $17k?” You said stupidly.
Frankie smiles and shakes his head. “A lot more than $17k.”
Your eyes widen. “What?”
“Millions, Hermosa. Each. Millions. We’re set for life, as are Luis and Aurelia.”
“Can we stay here?”
Frankie chuckles. “What?”
“I don’t want some giant mansion. I want to stay here. In our house.”
Frankie smiles and kisses you lightly. “We can do whatever you want to.”
“What do you want to do?”
“Besides take care of my family?”
“Besides that.”
“Once I get my license reinstated, I want to start my business.” His eyes light up as he talks about it, how he had already looked into getting retired choppers, and had gathered up some possible contacts, even scouted out some property. The only thing that had stopped him was the money, which was no longer an issue.
—----
6 months later, Frankie’s license gets reinstated, the owner clapping him on the shoulder and apologizing for everything. A month later, Frankie opens Chopperz, his veteran owned and operated helicopter tour business. It’s a instant success - apparently people really want to experience flying in various retired military equipment being flown by actual veterans. He even has repeat customers, although a lot of them are women and you catch more than one of them blushing when he talks to them.
Will and Stacy build a new house, much bigger to fit their expanding family, ecstatic that they were finally having a girl. He quits giving speeches almost immediately, staying home with his family and helping Frankie out when he needs it.
Benny and Olivia confessed that they had actually gotten married the day after Benny’s last fight, not able to wait any longer. When he came home, they took off to travel the world while their dream house was being built just down the road from Frankie and Will.
Santi went to Australia to find Yovanna and her brother, following them around until they got settled. He and Yovanna stayed together for a while, and he took some time for himself, wandering the world to see things when he wasn’t in a uniform. He eventually came back, building a house down the road from Frankie and the Millers. But to his first get together with everyone, he brought a girl, which wouldn’t have surprised anyone, but you could see the way he looked at her, constantly touching her lightly, pressing kisses to her head, shoulder, lips, anywhere he could. And she was doing the same, her eyes lighting up every time they looked at each other, so when you asked him later, away from everyone else, he scratches the back of his neck and admits that he thinks she’s the one, that she gets him, understands him, and doesn’t give a flying fuck about his money, which she didn’t even know about until now.
Frankie and you were finally happy, after all these years. Elizabeth finally stopped her shit, leaving you and Frankie to be happy and only communicating when it regards Aurelia. Instead of moving, you decide to expand your house, adding another couple of bedrooms because you want to eventually expand your family. Frankie is beyond happy, smiling at Luis and Aurelia as they run around their new treehouse in the backyard, feeling you wrap your arms around him from behind, kissing his broad back before moving to stand next to him, his arm around your shoulder as you both watch your kids.
“What are you thinking about?” You ask, turning your head up to him.
“How happy I am. How I wish we had started this all sooner, that it didn’t take such a shitty road to get here, and that it didn’t take us this long.”
You reach up and cup his face, pulling him to you as you kiss him, his soft lips lightly nibbling at yours.
“I’ll always wait for you, Frankie.”
Au idea I'll probably never write:
Steve as seven au, BUT he escapes at the same time as El in season 1. They get separated after Benny's, when seven tells eleven to run and definitely kills a couple government agents to give her more time.
So the a plot of will being missing and Mike finding El? Standard canon except El is ALSO looking for her brother and is worried about him. She sees that he's mostly safe and tries to help find will but also insists she go to her brother soon.
B plot of barb and Nancy...idk I haven't really thought about how that'd work without Steve's kickback. Maybe they go to a party (like actual party not the five person hangout) together and get separated and no one notices barb disappear from the edge of the lawn. Idk
The C plot is seven, kinda bloody and definitely cold, wandering out into the middle of the street, and one Robin Buckley almost running him over with her bike. She immediately clocks "guy who seems pretty fucked up" about him, and offers him a ride to her house. But Robin has never been the most coordinated of people and biking with a(admittedly probably too skinny) teenage boy sitting in her package rack is hard, and combine that with a guy driving like the devil's after him, they end up swerving of the road.
Eddie steps out, apologizes profusely, and offers them a ride. seven is sceptical, especially when both of them pause when he tells them his name, but does end up in the van. He finally gets a chance to breathe once they get to the Buckleys', and Robin gets him some leftovers.
He sits in front of the tv set to a blank station, tucks his head into his shirt instead of blindfolds, and tries to see El.
He sees her older, with flowers braided through long hair, laughing. Too far. He sees her with short curls, a patterned button down, eating something in a cone beside a mustachioed man. Too far again. He sees her tiny, scared, holding his own small hand. Not far enough.
Finally, finally, he sees her as she knows her now, mostly, standing beside a group of children and in front of a monster in a large room.
Eddie and Robin have no idea why their new friend? Has turned the tv on to static and is hiding in his shirt, but figure he's had a rough day. He pops his head back out, blood dripping from his nose, and grins, telling them he knows where his sister will be.
Anyways blah blah blah El sees where people ARE Steve sees where people have been/will be (based on where/who they are right now. Futura is constantly in motion etc).
Idk season 2 would happen very similar as canon minus stancy break up (they never date and are just friends) (also Steve tells Robin and Eddie he and El are safe and they pass it on to the kids) El finds Kali, Steve fights demodogs, etc etc.
But I want a (pre?) season 3 scene where Robin and Steve are hanging out as soulmates do, door closed because they are discussing Sensitive Subjects (gay shit) and giggling like schoolgirls. Hopper, in all his disappointed dad glory, opens the door and starts in on a rant about keeping the door open three inches.
Steve, bitch that he is, just tilts his head to the side and says "but that is for when we are with people we date. I am not dating Robin."
Hopper, not yet picking up what's happening, sighs. "Kid. It's about propriety. You can't be alone with Robin, because what if you do start dating. Then it's. You have to set an example for El!"(it would be a nice move bringing up Older Brother Responsibility, except...well.)
"but we aren't. I am dating someone else?"
"still need the door open three inches, pal. When El is home, at least"(El is almost always home)
"we do! And you complain about the loud music!"
"wait. Who are you dating? I thought Nancy was dating Jonathan still. She barely comes over." Hopper please pick up what Steve is putting down oh my god.
(hop has forgotten Robin is there and she is trying very hard not to make noise but Steve keeps meeting her eye sometimes because dear god. truly an iconic moment in friendship history.)
"yeah obviously. Eddie comes over all the time, though."
"what does Ed- oooh. Ah. I see. That's why you keep the door open even though he complains."
Steve nods like Hopper is the dumbest man on the planet. He might just be. "Yes. Because you said El had to and she asked why I didn't have to so then I started to leave it open when Eddie was over. At least Eddie doesn't laugh at you to your face"
"Eddie laughs behind my back?"
"he said you didn't know we were dating but I told him of course you knew, the door is open three inches."
Hopper clasps Steve's shoulders and looks him in the eye. "Steve, I need you to keep telling him that. And not mention this very awkward conversation we had."
"because he was right."
"he doesn't need to know that."
That's all I got lmao (also check the tag ramble I added lol)
SOULMATES PART 2
Jake sully x NA'VI reader
SUMMARY; Y/n and Jake have had feelings for each other for a while. The only problem is that y/n's parents have forced her to be mated with Zo'at who was a great warrior. (Her parents are very close friends with Mo'at and Eytukan,(to make it clearer Mo'at is y/n's Aunt.)This is before the battle in the first film.
Part 3 is coming soon
Do not copy my work
It's been a few days since y/n and Jake have had their late nights together. Y/N still questioned what happened, why was their so many Atokerina's surrounding her?
"You are silent today" Neytiri observes, Mo'at was teaching the other healers.
"I was with Jake the other night. We were on a date and I went to break up with him." Neytiri gives me a sad look and places her hand on my shoulder for comfort.
"But some how Atokerina's surrounded us, I mean many of them did. What would that mean?" But before Neytiri could answer it was her Aunt.
"You're thinning the paste, it will be no use if you over mix it." I hadn't realized I was still mixing the paste as I give Mo'at a sheepish look as I felt my cheeks heat up as the other woman giggled.
Mo'at walked away as I dropped the tight woven bowl that was made out of vines.
"Do not listen to your parents, you must follow your heart. You deserve happiness, my sister." I smiled at Neytiri.
"What will I do without you?" Neytiri laughs lightly.
We both giggled. Lessons were over as I was riding my Ikran. I heard a whooshing sound and a cry of an Ikran behind me.
"Follow me." Jake took the lead as he took me to the opposite direction as we were heading towards the sacred tree.
The breeze blew against my face as I felt the mist come from the floating mountains.
I knew Jake was taking us to our spot, but I didn't realize that he was going to be taking me directly to the tree.
"Jake?" I called out to him, but he didn't respond. I sighed, I knew he was in his thoughts.
My heart still yearns for him, as I want him to be mine. But I knew that my family will do anything to get us to separate.
We were about to reach the ground as I hopped off my Ikran. She flew back as she went back towards the sky. Jake kneeled on the ground. His hair was different, his hair was in a ponytail as he had two pieces of braids framing his face.
I stood next to him, as I reached my hand to touch his strong bicep.
"Jake." I tried to turn him around to face me, only for him to start talking, still facing the tree.
"I'm one of the people now, or I will be soon. I want you to be my mate, I don't want you to be with Zo'at." I sighed, I squat down next to him as I leaned my cheek on his shoulder.
"I wish I could Jake. Trust me, I would choose you if I had a choice. My parents have me set with Zo'at, after the ceremony tomorrow." Jake takes a deep breath.
"You're making this hard, Jake." Jake shakes his head, his muscles flexing as he stands up.
I quickly move so that I did not fall.
"You're not thinking with your heart. You're doing this to please others." I let out a frustrated sound.
"I'll- I'll learn to love him." I saw Jake cringe when I said that.
He grabs onto my biceps with both hands. I stood still, not knowing what to do.
"Don't hurt yourself doing this." He leans his forehead against mine. I shake my head, resting my hands against his face.
"Eywa gave us a sign. We're meant to be, not you and Zo'at. I love you damn it! I never thought I'd love a woman like I'd love you." I bite my lip to keep it from trembling.
"Fuck!" I hissed, moving my head to bang lightly on his chest.
Jake gently rubs his rough thumbs against my cheeks as I started to silently cry.
"Hey." He whispered, trying to pry my face off of his chest. I hold him closer to me.
"I have to do this Jake. It has to be done." Jake was angry, angry at her for not listening to her heart.
"Baby c'mon." His voice cracked, she hated seeing him hurt. Worst of all, she hurted him.
"Eywa made a mistake. This, this is one of them." I quickly ran, Jake called after, but she was already on her ikran.
"I love her, please. Eywa, show her how much I love her. How much I need- no want her. My heart beats for her, Zo'at does not show affection. He does not care for her, he won't love her the way I would. And I will do my damn best to keep her happy." Jake stayed for a moment. The Atokerina's were back, Jake smiled as he looks up at the tree.
He will fight for her. He will do everything to find her.
Au where they survive Scarif and have kids after the war
1. after the war, neither jyn nor cassian are able to go live a totally uninvolved, quiet life, because there's still so much to be done for the galaxy. cassian works with new republic intelligence, repeatedly turning down promotions to general because that would mostly keep him behind a desk. jyn works in a more civilian capacity to help people displaced by war — which has her engaging with politics/the senate quite a bit (and which she's much better at than she'd ever given herself credit for). things are stabilizing; they have a home and they're happy together.
2. and their sense of that does start to evolve. eventually, after much time and deliberation (and lbr character development to acknowledge that his chronic pain from his old injuries is only getting worse over time and he can't push his body in the field so much anymore), cassian accepts the promotion. jyn takes a coordinator's position, which has her traveling a lot less. it's then, and only then, that they start to talk about having a child, because given... everything, this isn't something they're walking into lightly; the last thing either of them would want to do would be in a position that would risk abandoning their child.
3. kerri andor-erso is born about a year later. she's extremely willful and hell on wheels — which is to be expected, given who both of her parents are. she is, and they would say this with all the fondness in the galaxy, to be their only child. jyn and cassian are both getting a taste of their own medicine from early on, and she's absolutely wearing them both out lmao who is the only force that could take them out? yeah, their own kid
4. cassian is absolutely a girldad; man was born to be a girldad. the girl has him completely wrapped around her little finger and he knows it, and he puts her hair up in fancy little braids and makes her all her favorite lunches. jyn, meanwhile, is absolutely delighted to have a little mini-me she can teach everything she knows to — and i mean everything she knows. she doesn't have a favorite parent or one she's closer to more than the other, necessarily. and she also has a wealth of uncles and aunts who are all part of the family she knows.
5. and of course there's k2, who's now made it his life's entire directive to protect kerri at all costs. she puts hats and costumes on him and giggles about it, and he doesn't say one word. one word.
send me a potential AU, and i'll give you five facts that would happen in the story!
Distances Between (Part 2)
18+ blood drinking, heavy petting, grinding, conflicting feelings, flirting, pining, (light) alcohol drinking
Astarion X F! Plus Sized Tav
listening to: Rain - Sleep Token, It Will Come Back - Hozier
-
Tav was pretty sure she'd fucked up.
Deft fingers twisted her still damp hair into a tight braid. Sitting in her tent, Tav's mind raced through their.. interaction at the water, glad to have a tactile task to keep her steady. She had taken things too far. It was too much, she was certain of it.
A mistake to have let her lust clouded mind take control. Assumed. Overstepped. Screwing up her face she decided she must apologize.
That night she walked on hushed feet, went to him. There was a faint glow from inside his tent, the vague shape of his silhouette against the canvas. She knew his keen ears had heard her approach.
Her hand hovered over the opening, but decided against it. She had already intruded enough tonight.
There was a tension thrumming through the air as they both stood on silence, the fabric of the tent a division. She took in a small breath.
"Astarion," the stillness from inside of the tent a bow pulled taut.
"I'm sorry. I overstepped and it wont happen again. I know how it feels to be-" She paused, no this wasnt about her. Gathered her words again. "If you want to leave I wont hold it against you.."
Quieter then, "But I hope you stay." She turned and walked back to her tent.
She had hid the joy in her eyes when she saw him at the mouth of his tent, meditating. The light of the morning gave way and he had stayed. She quietly passed, meeting the others at the hubbub of breakfast.
Karlach's hand clapping down on her shoulder in greeting, her bright smile infectious. "Morning, Soldier!" As they chatted she could feel eyes on the back of her neck but didnt turn. Give him time, give him space.
Though the morning had been promising the day had proved grueling, each battle scraping them against the stones. Each skirmish a barely won whirlwind. When night blissfully came groans and slumped bodies littered the camp. Still there were small victorious smiles shared and the wine that Astarion had swiped made the group loose-limbed and happy.
As the banter and spirit floated Tav spotted that ever distant shock of silver hair. She stood and went to him, her step sure.
He glanced up at her, she was pretty sure pretending to be engrossed in his book. "Yes, darling?"
"Care for a drink?" She raised her eyebrows, a cheeky smile edging the corner of her lips. Though she had only had a few sips she felt the spirits in her stomach give her a silly bravado.
He glanced up at her, eyed her empty hands. A slow smile spread over his face, catching on.
"Well, now.. you shouldn't have. What a gracious offer! You spoil me darling." He let the darling trail on a little long, bemused.
"I'll find you when the riff raff has finally gone down for the count." He gestured lazily with the tips of his fingers to the others gathered around the fire.
"I'll be waiting on bated breath my honeyed Drow.." he was laying it on thick now and she rolled her eyes but couldn't help the smile.
She sat leaned back on her pack, eyes closed. Peaceful. Humming a tune softly, something she had heard in a passing tavern. Breathing in the quiet of the night air.
"Ah my favorite bard, wont you bless us with a song?" He said low in her ear.
She opened one eye in mock suspicion, squinting at him, "Yet I am no bard, gentle nobleman. I cannot offer you a shanty nor a hymn.."
She saw the glitter in his eyes, enjoying her banter.
"Nay, alas all I can offer.." she sat up slightly and pulled her tunic from her neck, long hair falling behind her.
"Oh you temptress, you siren!" His words were light and playful but his eyes.. She felt a thrill in her stomach.
He leaned in and cupped the side of her neck, his cool fingers gentle. Kneeling next to her his mouth only hovered above her pulse, his breath tickling her. He was so close. She was no stranger to this ritual by now but this felt.. different. The air crackled with electricity.
She could feel her heart beating hard.
He breathed it in, taking in her scent.
Finally he opened his jaws and oh so slowly sank into her.
She fought the moan that was forming in her throat but couldn't restrain the hand that trailed into his hair. Languidly scratching his scalp. He shivered under her touch and she was about to pull away, embarrassed that she had made him uncomfortable again.
But his long legs moved quickly, one thigh pushing between hers. They were so close now, straddled into eachother. The intimacy made her feel dizzy, delirious.
She pushed her face up into him as he pulled from her greedily, drinking her down. She held her hand to his clavicle, feeling the deep pulse of his swallowing.
Lust took to the front of her mind, losing herself. Pushing her small ragged breaths into his ear.
He hitched, a groan muffled into her flesh.
His hand wandered feather light, curious, down the curve of her hip. The other bracing her strong against him between her shoulder blades.
She twisted his hair in a small tug in response and felt the hand bracing her dig nails in, a growl deep in his chest.
In one fluid motion he hooked under her thigh and pulled her up to him, chest to chest, positioning her straddling over his hips. She let out a small gasp and resisted grinding down into him. Like he couldn't get her close enough.
She ran her hand down his lower back, intoxicated, revelling in the taut muscles there. She needed more. No she couldn't get carried away.
He finally came up for air, a gasping whimper against her neck, and began eagerly licking her up in slow wide strokes. His tongue newly hot from her blood coursing through him.
She could see it in the tips of his ears and resisted putting her mouth there. She had to slow down.
He finally fully pulled away, releasing her. The sight of him, blood smeared on his perfect mouth, eyes dark and rolling, sated. Gods it made her ache.
"Did you have your fill?" She asked leaning back on her hands, looking up at him, awestruck. Failing at hiding the gasping in her voice.
His gaze suddenly focused and flicked down to her, staring. His chest heaving, eyes dilated.
She expected a smirked remark, maybe some practiced sweet nothings. Instead he leaned down to her again.
His lips hovered inches away from hers, blood-fucked eyes boring into her.
Her breath froze in her chest. A thrill of danger tickled her spine. She dared not move, though her nerves screamed to lean into him. To slide her lips against his.
They stayed in that heady limbo for what could have only been seconds but felt like an eternity. Breathing eachother.
He slowly pulled away, an emotion she couldn't place passing over his face.
Then he was gone, wordlessly rising. Disappearing into the overlap of the tents.
Still gasping for breath all she could do was watch.
-
Shaking hands opened his tent. Get a grip. He pulled his blood drenched tunic off. Breathe. Breathe you fool.
He had never lost control like that.
The unbridled desire he felt frightened him. Not just for her heavenly blood but her. He could still feel the little hot breaths she left in his ear. Felt a groan deep in his chest just from the memory.
Her question, "Did you get your fill?" Gods below. It had him about to do something very stupid, cross a line that he did not expect.
No, no this wont do at all. He would have to keep his distance from now on. Ran a still warm hand through his bloodflecked hair.
"Years I have known I am living in a war zone
Poison of my enemy blatantly attacking me
War goddess arouse your power
Know this is indeed your hour
Dying to be heard literally
Constant screams convincing me
War"
Caron Wheeler – "Beach of the War Goddess"
"Shh, Dumplin, don't wake him…Baba is tired. Sweet Pea…both of you go with Kora and let your father sleep longer."
N'Jadaka kept himself snug in the fetal position with the bed covers tucked under his chin. Yani fussed with Sydette and Riki as they rushed to the bed trying to get to him. It was a losing battle once Sydette patted his shoulder and cupped his chin.
"Baba, today is such a pretty day, we should all go outside to see the blue butterflies," Sydette said.
N'Jadaka opened one eye. Sydette peered down at him with her big dimples visible.
"See, Baba is wide awake," Sydette said.
"Come on, Baba…the butterflies…." Riki whined.
N'Jadaka groaned. Yani had worked his body out and he ached all over in a good way.
"The butterflies will still be migrating later this afternoon," Yani said.
"Baba…"
Sydette's big eyes would not take no for an answer.
"Give Baba one more hour," N'Jadaka groaned.
He shifted his head onto a large pillow and gave both children morning hugs as they clamored onto him. Their haste to lie next to him on either side squeezed Yani out of the way. She stood up and put her hands on her hips, a lavender cover-up hanging loosely around her curves.
"We can have breakfast in bed," Sydette suggested.
Yani glanced at N'Jadaka and he grinned.
"Alright, breakfast in bed with Mama and Baba," he said.
Sydette and Riki cheered.
"Are you sure you want to get up now?" Yani said.
"Yeah… yeah…once I start moving around I'll be okay," he said.
Yani tapped a camouflaged floating screen above her nightstand.
"Kora, we'll have breakfast with the children in my room. Please tell the kitchen to bring our meals on trays."
"Yes, Princess Yani," Kora answered on the screen.
Yani fluffed up the pillows in the middle of the bed for the children to sit between them better. Their home attendants brought up the hearty morning meal of hot honey chicken omelets, mango crepes, and cheesy grits. N'Jadaka listened to his children talk excitedly about the blue butterfly migration through the royal garden and shared new riddles from Baba Z and Umama. His eyes blurred a lot and he found himself turning his head to the side, pretending to check his kimoyos because the peace he felt being with his family under a single roof flooded him with memories of his home life as a child. It gave him normalcy. Comfort. Fleeting images of himself as a boy sneaking food from his mother's plate as his father did the same rooted him in the present.
"When is Joba coming back?" Riki asked.
"In a few days," Yani said.
"Why can't she just stay here with us when Umi Disa has to travel?" Sydette asked.
N'Jadaka touched Sydette's braided hair.
"Well, they have family overseas that don't get to see her that much. Umi Disa has to share her with other relatives," N'Jadaka said.
"They can just come here," Riki said, irritation coloring his voice.
"You miss your baby sister, Dumplin?" Yani asked, tickling Riki's shoulder.
He nodded, and then his eyes watered.
"Aw, baby boy, she'll be back home soon. I know it's been hard for you," Yani cooed.
She hugged Riki and he buried his face in her side. Yani glanced at N'Jadaka and they shared a look to allow their son to cry openly. It was something they agreed upon to keep Riki in touch with his feelings. He was attached to Joba in a way they were still understanding as a family and it had nothing to do with emotional distance but the actual physical contact between them. They thrived as siblings in proximity to each other, almost as if they needed to recharge with one another in order to function at their best. Shuri theorized it had to do with their empathetic abilities to read people, and they balanced each other out when it became too much to process. Yani even commented that keeping them close helped with Riki's outbursts of frustration, something N'Jadaka recognized in his own past as a neurodivergent child. Crying was taught to their children as a good thing, a purifying release that wasn't to be coddled away or shunned as an outlet for mental health. N'Jadaka let himself shed some tears with his child and Yani reached across the pillow to rub his shoulder.
"I miss her too, Lil Man," he said.
Riki nodded and sat back on his propped pillow and his chest heaved a few times until he calmed himself down. Holding his father's hand helped him, the kinetic contact soothing to the boy from someone with the same gifts of perception.
"Will we get to stay here with you from now on?" Sydette asked.
"Yes. All of us here together," N'Jadaka said.
"Finally," Sydette said. "I'm tired of moving from house to house."
"Me too," Yani said.
N'Jadaka leaned over and kissed Yani in front of the children, solidifying the final union. Soon enough, he crammed the last of the food in his mouth, belched, and checked messages on his kimoyo. Shuri was back in her lab collecting data from satellite warning systems and T'Challa left his suite to join his sister. There was an orange code warning attached to T'Challa's message. The Avengers were heading to Wakanda and he would handle it before pulling N'Jadaka into the mix. N'Jadaka's intuition told him that complications were on the horizon. He typed a message informing everyone in the upper ranks that he would spend the next two hours with his family before heading out to Shuri's lab. His scheduled day off would have to be forsaken for duty to the country.
The attendants returned to collect their trays and juice glasses. Kora arrived to collect the children to change into outdoor clothes.
"Go, go!" Yani said.
She waved her hands at the children and they tumbled out of the bed and ran out of the room to Kora. She locked the door behind them.
"I'll have to remember to lock the door early. I spoke with them about barging in here when we're still sleeping. They'll have to get used to knocking from now on."
"They'll learn. They aren't accustomed to us being together in the same bedroom. It's different from before. I don't mind it."
"But what if they catch us… you know…"
"I'll code some warning lights for them so we'll know they're on the loose."
"I'll just keep the door locked. Time to learn boundaries as a unit."
His gaze dusted over her cover-up.
"I like when you wear those," he said.
She twirled around to amuse him before joining his side on the bed again.
"I saw the expression on your face when you checked messages. What is it?"
He rubbed Yani's hip and pulled her on top of him. Sunlight dappled across her arm and he rubbed the warmth it brought to her skin.
"The Avengers… Cap's people with Tony Stark… they need our help. It's a big deal, but T'Challa and I have made contingency plans."
"Contingency plans?"
He took a deep inhale.
Yani caressed his cheek.
"I can handle it," she said.
Closing his eyes, he accepted fully that Yani would indeed navigate the trying times ahead with him.
"Can we talk about it after the butterflies?" he asked.
"Sure. C'mon…"
She pulled him from the bed and they sauntered out to her balcony shower. The wide glass enclosure steamed up fast and they stripped naked, walking inside the warm space hand in hand. He lathered up a fluffy synthetic loofah sponge and washed Yani's front and back. She did the same for him as he scrubbed down his privates and hers.
Rinsing off with the three-sixty jet sprays, sunlight illuminated the shower, and N'Jadaka held Yani close to his wet body. Lowering his head he kissed her and fondled her breasts. She broke away smacking her lips and placing a hand on the plane of his left pec.
"Don't start nothin', man," she giggled.
He fingered her folds, finding them slippery and plumped up.
Yani moved out the sower and padded over nude to an outdoor chaise lounge to retrieve their towels. Her breasts jiggled as she unfolded the cloth for him.
"Baby, stay like that…put the towel down and bend over a little bit…yeah, like that."
He touched his dick from the entrance of the steamy shower while watching her.
"Lean forward… yeah… right there," he moaned.
She wiggled just a bit and then spread her feet wider while holding onto the chaise lounger. Her ass cheeks parted and her vulva became more visible. She rocked her hips left and right so that her backside hypnotized him. Slowing down even more, she gave him a little show. His erection grew in his hand. Once his dick started spewing pre-cum, he walked over to her and rested the wide head on her rump.
"Keep moving like that…yeah…nice and slow…lemme slap this dick on that ass…"
His free hand squeezed her left butt cheek as he masturbated against her. Reaching around for a heavy breast, he fondled her chest and jerked off.
"I warned you about startin' somethin'. Your big mouth told them an hour. We were supposed to sleep in," Yani grumbled.
"This is just a quickie. You know I'm a basic dude that fumbles when it comes to all this parading around in front of me. You didn't have to jiggle this ass so hard to get some towels. You wanted to prance around and tease me."
"If you say so."
"Always your go-to answer."
He slapped her ass and the sound was a solid loud echo.
"First time I saw this big ass I wanted to do this," he grunted. "Walk for Daddy."
Yani did the slow sultry walk into the bedroom he loved. N'Jadaka followed and fisted himself, watching her ass bounce. She could walk around anywhere in their private life like that with him and he would follow as if she placed him in a seductive trance. Cake by the pound, mama was heavy, and N'Jadaka kept up with her swaying hips.
"Make those cheeks clap for me," he said.
Yani stopped at her vanity and jumped up and down lightly, not needing too much effort to get her ass cheeks bouncing before they started making the noise he loved. She wiggled and reached back to smack her cheeks for him to show how much heaviness she carried.
"Oohh Yani…fuck," he groaned in a high-pitched tone.
He jerked off and patted her folds with his dick, making his tip slick.
"Remember how I used to make you walk around the compound naked?" he asked.
"Yeah."
He slapped his dick harder on her ass. Pre-cum dripped down her skin. He twisted his fingers under the head of his dick and cupped her breast again. His balls ached to cum, but he wanted to make it last. Once they stepped out of her bedroom, the day would not be their own anymore.
"We should go back to St. Thomas for a family vacation. I can fuck you outside again like I used to. Bend you over in the laundry room…tight, young pussy all over my dick. Everybody used to watch your fine ass walk around with this big booty in those sweats…cheeks just fucking bouncing all day. You knew what it did to me watching you walk around. Fat titties…fat ass… and you just let me nut in your pussy…all in your tight pussy…oh fuck…spread that ass…lemme cum on that pussy baby…"
Yani twisted her hips in a slow erotic fashion knowing he needed that slowness to arouse him more. Leaning her elbows on the vanity, she glanced back at him, ratcheting up his visual pleasure as she pouted her lips. Her rump did a syncopated dance all their own, teasing him with their movement the way men back home would make gifs of her social media videos to nut off to. That shit worked on her man too, and his face scrunched up, his lips parted to spill out the groans of losing control. His occasional gasps as the pitch of his voice changed excited her, and Yani spread her folds for him to see the delicious pink he craved surrounded by the sparkling jewels of her piercings.
She tilted her hips, and he rested his tip near her opening and spurted creamy hot cum all over her folds.
"Spread them pussy lips wider… lemme see all that pink… there you go baby…nut all over that…"
He grunted as his dick pulsed in his hand, all hot and heavy, painting more streaks of white heat all over her ass.
"I made a mess for real Yani…fuck… look at all that cum."
He rubbed semen gently over her swollen folds.
"Still sore?" he asked.
"A little. But I have that new cream Ilana brought for me."
"Want me to rub it on you?"
"No, I'll do it myself because you'll want to put that dick back in and we don't have time," she huffed.
They kissed.
A pounding on the bedroom door separated them.
"Mama! Baba! Come on!" Riki shouted.
Yani rushed back to the shower to rinse off and N'Jadaka grabbed the clothes that Ilana and Zola left out for him.
Several diverse species of butterflies migrated through Wakanda, but the favorite was always the blue mountain butterfly that traversed the terrain of the Jabari down to the warmer valley of Birnin Zana during the roosting season.
Sydette and Riki squealed and chased the thousands of fluttering butterflies, their brilliant color flooding the sky with azure wings.
"Gentle, gentle…" Yani prodded.
Sydette turned her face towards them with two butterflies flapping their wings on her forehead. They all laughed and N'Jadaka took pictures with his kimoyo beads. A dense migratory wave swooped down through the royal garden and flew past them. Surrounded by sunlight and blue, the happy family basked in the beauty of nature.
The children ran down a path to follow the butterflies heading toward the sweet-smelling flowers that attracted and sustained them, and N'Jadaka clasped Yani's hand and walked with her slowly to admire their bloodline frolicking in the garden. They spoke of her work, their wedding plans, and his need to balance more quiet time for himself. The sun rose above the tallest trees in the garden and they slowed down to admire the garden pond near the edge of the south enclosure.
"I think I want to write a book," Yani said.
The brown of her eyes were bright with the light of the sun, their shine almost turning into honey amber jewels as she gazed up into his face seeming to yearn for his approval. She valued his input regarding her career even though she was the expert in the trajectory of her future goals. He adored how she squeezed his hand and waited for an answer. Her beauty had always moved him and in the midst of butterflies and warm solar rays, N'Jadaka fell in love with Yani all over again, a mature love that sweetened more each day.
"What will your book be about?" he said.
"I want to share how Wakanda brings babies into the world. I will call it 'The Wakandan Way of Birth'…or something like that. Disa liked the article I wrote for the Wakandan Daily News and I think the lessons I've learned here could benefit Western women more personally in book form. Pictures… testimonies… and my experience being trained away from Western medicine. I complete my obstetrics residency next year, and with my Wakandan midwife certification finished, I think I'm qualified enough to write what I know so far. I'll request to be transferred to a hospital closer to the palace if I can."
"That sounds pretty good to me, baby. You have a full pedigree now. Dr. Galiber-Udaku…queen of the nation and the author of a future bestseller. Doing big things like I knew you would."
She rested her head against his chest.
"I love you… so much," Yani whispered into his chest.
"I love you more."
Wrapping her arms around his waist, she nestled into his chest deeper and he rubbed circles into her upper back.
"Do you need me to provide you with more support? I'll have your personal office ready in the East Palace. When you're prepared to interview new staff for your palace office, let me know. Zinzi and Efetobo can help screen applicants."
"I want a cross-section of the nation to apply, not just people in the golden city."
"That can be arranged. Let me know the budget you need and I can approve any extra admin costs for international travel and your auxiliary programs outside of Wakanda," he said.
He tilted her chin to look into her eyes.
"We have to talk about the schedule changes Yani. I have to factor in our joint duties on the world stage, but I know this will cut into your hospital work. There are high expectations for the queen…and now that we've begun working with other nations…listen, I'm not saying you can't keep working at the hospital, but your hours will have to be adjusted. Your presence at the ball was legendary already, understand? You are my secret chess piece."
"I don't want to be a part-time doctor."
"You can't be a part-time queen either."
"Why not? You have Ramonda to help you."
"Ramonda is my hand across the sea. You are the face of the nation. I need your patient load to be cut down to at least twenty hours a week."
"Twenty?!"
"You're about to be a queen. Have you thought out what that means? If something ever happened to me, you'd have to run the country. You have to be in the throne room for as much time as you're in the hospital. The Council of Elders, the Wakandan parliament, and the nobles expect you seated next to me."
Yani mashed her lips together, a curse word surely being held back from him.
"I asked for a compromise, baby. That's what the twenty hours are for. You would have morning duties in the throne room, and then you could finish the rest of your time at the hospital and your East Palace office."
"Babies don't arrive on a set schedule."
"This is the life we have now. We are the king and queen of the world."
The hesitation in her eyes worried him.
"I can't ask for more than you can give, Yani. Queens before you accepted their assignment as mother of the nation without question. It's one of the most powerful positions any woman will ever have. The elders told me if you can't give up the time, then they'll have to reconsider your title as queen. I'm not ruling with a princess, girl. I'm not marrying another woman either to have a queen in the role that only fits you. Please give it a chance, baby. I want you to have both worlds in peace. Once they see you can balance it, they may lay off the pressure on me."
"You can make all the rules now—"
"I also have to meet the elders halfway… show them that I'm not just a half-cocked dictator. I compromise to make them trust my leadership. Zinzi and Efetobo support you one hundred percent, but even they have to abide by the ancient laws and traditions of what the queen represents. You're not just the wife of a king, or an adornment for me either. You are a leader. Your hand will shape politics, and if you want to make the changes you desire in the world, then you have to be in the room where those decisions are made."
She considered his words, a lightbulb going off in her head by the way she glanced at the plants in the distance.
"I want to be in the room to help get what I need for my work," she said.
"You have to look beyond work… beyond your career… even beyond motherhood at times. Just like me."
Yani folded her arms across her midsection and stepped away from him to think.
"Do you wish I never took the throne?" he asked.
"No. I guess I just thought my domain would be raising our children and my continued education in medicine. Maybe I ignored everything else because I didn't think it would be my responsibility too. I planned on being like Michelle Obama…minding my business, supporting you on critical matters, and looking good for pictures."
"A queen is a lot more than a first lady in this country."
"I can be the queen Wakanda needs… the queen that you need," she said.
"You proved it last night. We're a kickass team."
Yani reached for his hand and he kissed her palm. He walked with his arm around her, enjoying the peace and quiet.
Too much quiet.
They caught up to Sydette who picked a fresh bouquet near the frog pond.
"Where is Riki?" Yani asked.
Sydette glanced around and shrugged.
"He was here a minute ago. Maybe he went to the gazebo," Sydette said.
"Riki," N'Jadaka called out.
Yani tapped her kimoyo.
"He's over by the cathedral tress," Yani said.
The path to the ancient tall trees winded around the frog pound and past Joba's fairy garden. They found Riki stuffed inside the space created by the bending and twining of tree trunks made years before N'Jadaka's father had been born. Riki spoke in a whispery voice, trying his best to stay hidden inside the protective covering.
"Riki!" Yani scolded when they all saw that he was speaking to Joba's image.
N'Jadaka's youngest daughter sat in her bed dressed in pajamas. It was nearly three in the morning where she stayed.
"Why are you up, Sunshine?" Yani asked.
Joba giggled.
"Does Mommy know you're talking to Riki?" N'Jadaka asked.
"Mommy is asleep," Joba said.
N'Jadaka stared at her smile.
"You lost another tooth baby girl?" he asked.
The gap in her top front teeth made her adorable.
"I showed her my loose tooth, Baba," Riki said, opening his mouth to show off his bottom tooth.
"How is your Mommy, Sunshine?" Yani asked.
"Good."
"Can we have some privacy, please?" Riki insisted.
"Don't keep her up long, ten more minutes and then she has to get to sleep, Lil Man," N'Jadaka said.
Yani blew Joba a kiss and they left the younger children alone to watch Sydette gather more flowers for her bouquet. N'Jadaka slipped his hand into the back pocket of the skintight mauve yoga pants Yani squeezed into. As always, he couldn't keep his hands off of her without holding something to keep them connected. Gratitude swarmed in his chest. He dropped down low and encouraged Yani to climb onto his back. He carried her piggyback toward the palace entrance. Riki caught up to them. The beauty of their surroundings had them all feeling tranquil. A visit to the garden maze brought on a game of hide and seek before a quick trip to the peahen nursery to observe new hatchlings.
The family shared a light lunch with all the grandparents in the regular dining room before N'Jadaka took them back to their private residence to have naps. Their children went to their separate rooms and Yani took away one of Riki's kimoyo beads so he wouldn't contact Joba again in secret.
N'Jadaka climbed the stairs to his third-floor king's domain where an entire wing made up just his bedchamber alone. Ilana and Zola had fresh tea and snacks waiting for him with lavender incense burning in small brass holders shaped like panthers. They assisted Yani for a time before she joined him in his bedroom to nap wearing a sheer pink dressing gown. Cuddling on top of the covers, he rested his head on her breasts, while she stroked his locs.
Zola brought up a change of clothes for Yani to wear later, and Ilana tinted the windows and made sure N'Jadaka's warrior attire was situated for his trip to Shuri's lab later.
"This is the fucking life," he murmured into Yani's titties as he pulled aside the ties on her dressing gown to suck on her nipples.
"Just a big baby," she teased, helping to widen the top of her gown for easier titty access.
He plucked and sucked on her nipples and listened to her heavy breathing. When her eyes were glassy looking, he whispered in her ear.
"Did you put that cream on down there?" he said.
Yani nodded.
She squirmed next to him, watching him undress all the way.
"I'm sorry, baby. I can't help it. You're so fucking fine…"
He grunted into her ear. Yani circled her hands around his thick neck. Without him asking or begging, she widened her legs and he gripped his dick.
"Can't help it…"
He sank into her depths and shouted her name. It felt like molten caramel stickiness slathering his dick.
"You take it so deep…fuck… you got the best pussy, Yani. Best pussy I ever had in my life…listen to it take this big dick. Fuck!"
Yani laid up under him with passive pillow princess energy. Missionary was her favorite position with him. She loved to keep still with her legs wide so she could watch his dick going in and out of her pussy making all kinds of wet, squelching noises. Arousal for her came from N'Jadaka working himself into an obsessive sexual frenzy. He held her legs for her and she passively watched him pump her walls with deep short thrusts. Her pussy gripped him tight, her delicate hands resting on her thighs. After deep stroking her for a while, he stopped talking. Listening to his dick stretch her pussy, all he could muster was grunts and moans. A gripping pussy was always too much for him. All of his favorite lovers in the past that came close to that magical tight tunnel that shut down language couldn't compare to his queen.
Staring at the kittenish teasing in her glossy brown eyes broke him down physically and mentally. Thrusting deeper, he held still inside of her to indulge in the throbbing of his dick. Together they regarded their joining, her pussy stuffed full of heavy pipe. He was snug and she was stretched to capacity. He reached down to cup both breasts and she widened her thighs, allowing his balls to smack against her ass cheeks better once he resumed shallow thrusts extending the build-up ready to release intense pleasure. Dropping his head down further, he began panting, unable to hide the loss of control creeping up from the tension in his ass toward his massive shoulders held rigid.
"Ohhhh….Yani…baby, I wanna cum inside you…" he sputtered.
That thang was yankin' on his meat and his toes dug into the covers to anchor his thrusts. Yani reached up with both hands and cradled his face. Her lips pursed tight a few times as control slipped from her grasp. He wore down that pussy and her satisfied whimpers pleased him. However, the superior lovemaking that she provided turned him into a praying man in the middle of the act. His prayers were given to her in Wakandan love talk, the gushy sounds of her pussy accepting the reverence of his soft words raining down on her ears. Swiveling his hips to stroke at a different angle released a loud cry from her lusty lips. A heat spread behind his eyes and a pressure in his throat tightened his lips and he grimaced as the root of his dick sent pulses that squeezed at his balls. Her warmth, wetness, and lush body became an insatiable whirlpool he never wanted to escape from.
Lowering his head, he delved a greedy tongue into her mouth for deep wet kisses. Each stroke of his dick matched the neediness of his lips, and the fiery muscle wrestling control of her gasps for air flustered his resolve to last longer. Overwhelmed by too many sensations and moving parts pressing down on her, Yani jammed her cheek against his and listened to him curse his way through a massive orgasm. He lifted his body up just enough to watch his dick throb and pump her full of cum, his dick piercing rubbing up under her clit ring.
"Shit…ooh shit… I'm nuttin' in this pussy…I'm nuttin' all in this pussy, baby. Look at my dick…this nut feels too fucking good…ohhhhh….damn….damn…fuck you doin' to me, Yani?"
A desperate groan cut him off and he watched Yani react to his release. Her eyes started to roll back then slammed shut when her thighs shook.
"Cum on that dick," he pleaded.
He gently thumbed her clit, tugging on her piercing to guide her to heaven.
"Oh dassit…dassit girl…I feel that pussy all over my dick…"
He hunkered down on her and pushed Yani to her limit, letting his dick hit that bottom so her orgasm lasted and he could savor the throbbing from tip to root of his rigid dick.
She opened her eyes and they both gazed into the reflections of love binding them forever. His sweet, precious island girl… the one who loved him back to himself…his eyes blurred, but not before he witnessed a teardrop fall upon her cute round nose. Yani wept under him, her tears spilling along the sides of her lids. He ejaculated again and shouted with surprise at what he was able to spurt into her. Her pussy contracted around his length and he slumped over in defeat, blanking out mentally for about five seconds before gaining control of his senses again.
He lifted away from her, pulling out his dick. The dark brown of his fat erection dripped with the liberal shine of her sticky fluids. It hung heavy and sated between his thighs.
"You fucked the shit out of me," he gasped. "How is that possible when I did all the work?"
He folded like a bad poker hand onto her breasts, accepting the rubs on his head from her in silent wonder. When he was strong enough after a time, he lowered his head between her legs to kiss her folds and lick the jewels that adorned platinum pussy like hers. His thick lips gave loving kisses to her big thighs, her hips, and her belly button. It still wasn't enough to show her how she broke him down sexually. All he could do was keep kissing her vulva and clit, using the tip of his tongue to part her folds and trace the shape of hearts all over her pussy lips.
He fell asleep with his head resting on her thigh and his fingers playing with her nipples.
N'Jadaka loved hard and strong.
Yani listened to his deep breathing as he slept on her body.
He slow-fucked her to sleep, but she woke up before he did. Sometime during their nap, he had moved against her side, his right hand still gripping a titty for security. He snored softly and he only did that in a deeply relaxed state. Especially after he fucked her good and proper. To say he gave her the best dick in her life was an understatement. Her body was built for deep-dick men, and not every man had the pipe to get past her ass cheeks or tame her depths. Only N'Jadaka.
His open confession of her being the best pussy he ever had made her feel amazing. He fucked her like he was scared to lose her… like he was proving to her that no other man could handle her, and he was right. Cumming with him was magical, and crying together was divine. He possessed her completely.
N'Jadaka's kimoyo beads lit up in a cool neon green color. Shuri.
Yani lifted from his body giving him space to roll over and answer the call. She snuggled under the covers to hide her nudity. N'Jadaka slipped on loose house pants.
"Talk to me," he said.
Shuri's face carried stress. Her lips stuck out further than normal with worry.
"I think you should see this. At first, I thought the earlier images were captures of American space debris or maybe even solar rays interfering with our equipment…"
N'Jadaka's bedroom became filled with images of Earth from space. The images zeroed in on specks in the atmosphere above them.
"Satellites?" he asked.
"No."
The images were enlarged. Silver spheres floated above the continent of Africa.
"Maybe probes…a tracking system of some kind," Shuri said. "They've moved closer to earth in the last hour."
"I'm heading over there," he said.
"Rogers warned us of an assault. From space. This looks bad, N'Jadaka."
Shuri sent over new images. N'Jadaka enlarged them. Yani jerked up from the bed.
"Are those spaceships?" Yani said.
Shuri's image returned and the lines on her forehead increased.
"Those ships appeared right after the Avengers contacted us about their team coming here. As of now, these spacecraft are hiding themselves near the Kuiper Belt. They were not there twelve hours ago."
"They may be using the wormholes. How many?" N'Jadaka asked.
"I only counted seven, like an armada waiting off the coast," T'Challa answered.
T'Challa stood near Shuri with an equally grim expression.
"Standby," N'Jadaka said.
He shut off his kimoyos.
"There are aliens coming here?" Yani asked.
N'Jadaka reached for her hand, but Yani pulled on her napping gown and stepped off the rumpled bed.
"We will find out more. I want you and the children to visit Nakia. Stay with her until I contact you. Do not let on to anyone that you've seen this, okay?"
Questions flew through her mind, but she kept silent. N'Jadaka was in control and she rested in that knowledge, trusting him to protect them all from any and everything. Yani kissed his lips and hustled out of the king's bedchamber.
"Kora, have the children dressed and ready to go with me to see Lady Nakia," Yani said.
Kora moved with swift legs to the children's wing and Yani ran to her dressing room where Ilana and Zola helped supervise the organization of her shoe wall to make space for her new queen wardrobe that included royal isicholos and other accessories.
"I'm going to spend time with Lady Nakia and Prince Toussaint. Can you organize this without me today?" Yani asked.
Both women nodded, clearly aware that something bothered Yani. They helped her with a quick shower and provided her with a lovely draped wide-legged pantsuit in a rich eggplant color.
"Peplum blouse or a princess vest?" Ilana asked.
"The dark green peplum," Yani said.
A half hour later she was on her way with the children and all their Doras to see Nakia. Yani's years of keeping a neutral face around deadly killers proved invaluable to her. Nakia caught no hint of concern from her. Her eyes lit up in delight from the new gifts they brought for the baby and the children kept them all occupied with their need to hold Toussaint and fuss over him like a Christmas gift.
An impromptu tea party commenced and Yani did her part to look after all the royal heirs and Nakia. Two hours later, they all noticed the strange foreign aircraft being escorted past the palace.
Tumblr media
N'Jadaka rang the alarm to have their foreign African guests escorted out of Wakanda. He assembled them all in the amphitheater seating of the War Hall after Shuri and T'Challa debriefed him with M'Baku listening.
The outsiders were warned of a national security breach. Not giving them a chance to question his intel, N'Jadaka left W'Kabi in charge of flying all their guests across their borders to various airports before shutting down their entire protective dome shield. No matter the global threat, the Avengers wanted to keep a low profile with the upcoming onslaught from the aliens they called The Black Order. Their leader, Thanos, rushed forward the intergalactic army, and N'Jadaka wanted the battle concentrated at one exact point south of the dome border. It was the best strategic location that would give Wakandans in the inner cities time to escape if there was a shield breach.
T'Challa and M'Baku met him at the Talon Port where a tracker beam held the Avengers aircraft in a holding pattern above the palace for its final security screening. The pilot, Sam Wilson followed instructions from the Wakandan Special Forces security team. T'Challa kept an open image of Steve Rogers and the other Avengers above his wrist. An entire regiment of Dora Milaje and the Onyx Squad surrounded them.
The Foreign aircraft floated down, its wings folding up to land near the king's entourage.
"Standby Shuri," N'Jadaka said.
A ramp lowered and Steve strode out to lead a ragtag group of exhausted Avengers. A white woman with chopped blonde hair matched Steve's pace.
"The Black Widow, Natasha," T'Challa whispered. "Dr. Bruce Banner…the Hulk—"
"Colonel James Rhodes," N'Jadaka said when he spotted Rhodey.
The former military officer blinked a few times when he recognized N'Jadaka. A pearly grin stretched his lips as he walked with Banner toward them.
"They call that one the Scarlett Witch…Wanda. That is Vision. You see?" T'Challa said.
"The mind stone they want us to remove," N'Jadaka said.
Steve reached out a hand to T'Challa and nodded at N'Jadaka.
"Seems like I'm always thanking you for something," Steve said.
Banner bowed to the king and attempted to get down on a knee. Rhodey looked aghast.
"We don't do that here," T'Challa said.
"But they should," N'Jadaka replied with a tinge of humor. "Let's go."
They followed N'Jadaka and T'Challa toward a half cruiser ready to whisk them away to Shuri's lab.
"How big of an assault are we looking at Rogers with this Black Order?" N'Jadaka asked.
"Massive," Banner said.
"How are we looking here?"
Natasha's nasally voice irritated N'Jadaka. He glanced back at her and T'Challa put some distance between her and him.
"You will have the Kingsguard, The Border Tribe, the Dora Milaje, and also Barnes," T'Challa said.
Bucky Barnes sauntered forward with the Kingsguard wearing a new Wakandan arm. He hugged Steve.
"How ya doin', Buck?" Steve asked.
"Not bad for the end of the world," Bucky said.
"Let's keep this reunion short. We have work to do," N'Jadaka ordered.
On the half cruiser, the Avengers sat wide-eyed staring at the world of Wakanda. Rhodey eased over to N'Jadaka.
"This is wild," Rhodey said. "I knew you were a different kind of cat back over in Gulmira, but I didn't think literally."
"Where's Stark?" N'Jadaka said.
Rhodey shrugged.
"So much has been going on full throttle. The Avengers are stretched thin. This is our last chance. If we can't shut them down here, it's over for us. Wherever Stark is, I'm sure he's working his ass off to find a solution to help us," Rhodey said.
"That's the least he could do. As much as he took from the world by helping to destroy it with greed, he owes some restitution."
"What about you? What do you owe the world with all the shit you've done after your time with Special Ops?"
"I owe nothing but a fist and the wisdom to know when to use it for my people, like now. I don't give a damn if these Avengers survive or not, as long as they hold the line for these aliens."
Rhodey's lips curled into a smirk.
"Yeah…they told me you were cold-blooded," Rhodey said.
Sam leaned forward in his seat from eavesdropping.
"Cold-blooded or not, we don't care about you either… as long as our alliance together saves everyone on earth."
The half cruiser swooped over a winding river that led toward Bashenga mountain. They flew over the Hall of Panthers, the new dome sparkling from the light of the golden Wakandan sun.
"All of this has been here for centuries?" Sam said.
"Longer than that," Rhodey quipped with awe in his voice.
"The motherland truly is the cradle of civilization," Sam said.
Sam's eyes appeared shiny as if he were about to weep at the lush futuristic scenery below him. Time wasn't wasted getting Vision to Shuri.
"Let's go! Move out of my way!" Shuri shouted at Natasha and Wanda who crowded Vision.
Shuri's medical team took Vision away and all the others followed with quick steps. She led them to a wide prepped medical bed near a giant window view of the gathering soldiers from Wakanda who lined up in strategic formation. N'Jadaka kept his arms folded near T'Challa.
"Stay back, please," Shuri told Wanda once more with irritation in her throat.
Banner was the only person Shuri kept close to the med bed. Conferring with Banner, Shuri ended her quick overview chat with a playful, "I'm sure you did your best."
N'Jadaka sensed her work would be slow-going and delicate. Shuri glanced at him.
"Give me as much time as you can," she said.
The confidence in her voice added a boost of hope to the others.
"I will give you the bare minimum," N'Jadaka said, "but if our line of defense is broken I need that stone destroyed immediately. I'm not risking all of my people and the diaspora for the feelings of one white woman and her robot boyfriend."
Shuri glanced over at Wanda. The so-called Scarlet Witch folded her arms and her thin lips became a pout.
"He's a sentient being with a right to life as any of us," Wanda spat out toward N'Jadaka.
He strode over to her.
"One life for billions is a fucked up trade-off," N'Jadaka said. "My children's lives are worth more, and I will end the life of anyone who risks theirs and others like them."
"I love him," Wanda said.
"And I love my children. You can cry all you want in front of all these people but this is my country and my cousin will do what I say. Her life is worth more too."
Shuri waved her hand over Vision's body and her kimoyo beads fed her the imaging she needed to process.
"I can do this, as long as I have time, cousin. He has about two trillion neurons…this will be delicate work. One misalignment and a cascade of circuit failure will end him."
Shuri looked at N'Jadaka and he shook his head.
"Time is not on your side."
The finality of his words forced a nod from Shuri. She jumped on her task and the other Avengers didn't look the king in the eye. They only gave anxious glances to Wanda and Vision.
"I have to meet with the Council of Elders and notify Wakandans for emergency preparedness. I'll catch up to you after I address the nation."
N'Jadaka turned to T'Challa.
"A quick word?" N'Jadaka said.
T'Challa followed him to a corner room.
"Do you want to see Nakia and Toussaint first? W'Kabi and Okoye can take the lead for now."
"I would like to do that, but as the Black Panther—"
"Man, fuck all that. You have a newborn. We are about to battle some unknown force. Ain't nothing promised to us."
T'Challa lowered his head and sighed. N'Jadaka gripped his shoulder.
"The world is on our shoulders. Let's go see our babies, Cuz."
T'Challa nodded.
"General Okoye, get the transport vehicles ready. We'll see you after my meeting," N'Jadaka said.
Okoye tapped her spear and led the Avengers away with the Dora Milaje. Wanda stood a proper distance from Vision as Shuri connected him to her computer interface.
The Council of Elders stood with N'Jadaka in the West Palace media room. He recited a prepared statement informing the public of an outside threat and that the nation was on high alert. Emergency responders were placed throughout key areas in the cities and Wakandans in more rural areas were transported to safer lodgings.
The royal family members were kept in the East Palace and N'Jadaka left T'Challa with Nakia and his son while he convened a final meeting with the council elders inside the throne room. He requested Yani by his side. She arrived dressed in a dark flowing dress with a cowrie shell head chain draped all around her scalp in the shape of the Northern Triangle, the oldest place in Wakanda. Her facial expression took on a serious countenance and she looked imposing walking up to her seat next to his throne chair. Ramonda sat on the other side of him with her hands folded on her lap. A bleak mood weighed down the air.
"What are our chances of defeating this Thanos?" M'Kathu asked.
"I was told he had a force made of aliens all across the galaxy. We won't know what we're truly up against until they arrive. They are honing in on Wakanda for the mind stone." N'Jadaka said.
"And you will kill the A.I. that houses it if Shuri fails?" Zinzi asked.
"Shuri will only fail if her time runs out. There are trillions of neuron links that make up Vision. She can save him, but half of all life in the universe will die if it doesn't happen before Thanos comes."
"You should destroy Vision now," Yani said.
The Council of Elders and Ramonda stared at her.
"Am I not allowed to speak freely here?" Yani asked, glancing about.
"Speak," N'Jadaka encouraged.
"Why wait? An army is coming here to wipe us out. When I was in St. Thomas and a man came to kill you and our child, I shot and killed him the moment I saw his eyes. One shot and we're alive because of that. I'm not a soldier, but even I had the good sense to act right then and there. We have something this alien wants and we should get rid of it. Him can't use his power without one lil stone…get rid of it before he comes here. He'll have to leave—"
"With all due respect, Princess Yani, we may still have to fight off an offensive attack. They may become enraged and decide to kill everyone on earth in anger or revenge for thwarting their plans. Either way, we are going to war," Bhira said.
Yani lowered her eyes to her lap and N'Jadaka reached over and squeezed her hand for support. He held pride in his chest that she asserted her viewpoint inside the throne room. The elders hearing she had killed a man without flinching had them glancing at her with new respect.
"The mind stone isn't the main one I'm worried about. He has another stone they say can reverse time. Even if we save Vision or destroy the mind stone, he can rewind everything back. We'll have to do a three-pronged attack. Destroy the mind stone, fight his army, and separate the time stone from him…besides killing him too."
N'Jadaka let the others take in his words and the gravity of their mission.
"As of now, the country is secure with defensive measures in place. We have the mountains and our underground caverns to relocate civilians if it all goes to shit," N'Jadaka said.
Zinzi stood up, glanced at the other elders, then faced N'Jadaka.
"Kumkani N'Jadaka, the Council of Elders wishes to ask that you remain in the palace during this time of foreign aggression. The Black Panther and Princess Shuri are using their talents to protect us on the battlefield, but we want the Golden Jaguar to protect the royal family and flee the territory if necessary to save the bloodline," Zinzi said.
Yani looked at him.
"Thank you for worrying about me and my family, but my talents are needed on the battlefield, too. A leader shouldn't sit back in the cut giving orders while others risk their lives—"
"You have nothing to prove to us. You are our warrior king and we want you here to lead evacuations and give our people hope of defeating this unknown terror," M'Kathu said.
N'Jadaka stepped down from the throne chair.
"I will lead the fight and return when needed," N'Jadaka said.
"As you wish, my king," M'Kathu said.
"We're done here. Everyone knows their orders. Return to the palace bunker," N'Jadaka said.
Efetobo rose from her seat and used her cane heavily to get to him.
"Wakanda Forever King N'Jadaka," Efetobo said.
Instead of making the symbol across her chest, she reached out and hugged N'Jadaka, her frail-looking arms carrying strength in them that filled his heart. When she released him, Ramonda did the same.
"You and T'Challa stay safe and give them hell!" Ramonda demanded.
"I will Auntie."
Zinzi pressed her forehead into his and prayed a few Wakandan scriptures of empowerment. Bhira and M'Kathu shook his hand afterward.
The Kingsguard escorted the elders and Ramonda out of the room. N'Jadaka reached for Yani and she took his hand, rising from her seat. He placed loving arms around her waist.
"I love how brave you appeared in front of them," he said.
He stroked her left eyebrow. Yani buried her face in his chest.
"I should feel more scared, but I'm not."
"Why not?"
She looked up at him.
"In a dream, Queen Mary said I was going to have more babies by you, and she can't be wrong. You can't die, not without me being pregnant. So…since there ain't no pickney in mi belly yet, you won't die."
He chuckled.
"My Mom told me the same thing after I ingested the heart-shaped herb again…about me having more babies. So if two ancestors told us that, then we're covered."
"Are you scared?"
"It's always tense before a battle."
"Not tense. Scared."
"My only fear is the potential amount of lives lost in Wakanda. Many died in the civil war I brought to them. Unfortunately, we're the only country that can even hold off a space army."
She glanced at her kimoyo.
"Riki and Sydette are here," she said, pulling him closer. Two Kingsguards opened the doors of the throne room and Nakia walked in with Toussaint wrapped against her chest. Sydette and Riki followed close by her.
"I came to wish you success," Nakia said.
The former War Dog had touches of pink in the whites of her eyes. She clung to Toussaint with protective hands that patted the bundle softly. N'Jadaka gave her a gentle hug and he stroked the silky smooth hair of the baby. He squatted down on one knee to be at eye level with his own children.
"Auntie Nakia and Mama will keep you all safe here, okay? I'm going to join Uncle T'Challa," he said.
"When will you be back?" Sydette asked.
Sweet Pea's large eyes haunted him. They had endured a dangerous separation before, but he needed to reassure her that he was coming back. He held her small hands in his big ones.
"I can't say for sure, but I will be close by."
"Can we watch you fight?" Riki asked.
"No, Lil Man, that wouldn't be a good idea. All the family will be here together and I'll have Noxolo and Aneka give you updates when I can."
Sydette threw her arms around him just as his kimoyos lit up with Disa's signature. He stood and tapped the beads. Disa and Joba's avatars floated in the middle for all of them to see.
"I'm glad I caught you," Disa said.
"I was going to contact you again," he said.
Disa had tremors in her voice. Joba studied him with calm assurance. His youngest could detect the even control of his tone.
"I want you and Joba to stay in New York until all of this is over. Nothing is happening yet, but I can't risk bringing you both back now."
"I get it, don't worry," Disa said.
Disa's eyes watered and she pushed her lips together.
"Disa… hey…don't worry about me."
"I'm afraid, Erik," Disa said.
N'Jadaka closed his eyes at the sound of his old name on her lips. Disa wiped her eyes and took a deep inhale to keep her voice steady.
"Adebiyi has been supportive and strong for us here, but I wish we could be with you and Yani…everyone. Dammit, I should've come home sooner."
"You were with family, Disa. Everything has been so uncertain and unpredictable. You have the best security team with you and I've already sent a half cruiser to stay offshore in case we need to evacuate you and your relatives. We'll keep you all informed of everything going on here," he said.
Joba hugged her mother and Adebiyi came into view.
"Watch over them for me, man," N'Jadaka said.
"Of course kumkani," Adebiyi said.
"Love you, baby girl," he said.
"I love you too, Baba," Joba said.
Disa held her hands under her chin trying to maintain her composure in front of Joba. Stress lines marred her face.
"Yani," Disa said.
Yani gave Disa a smile.
"Don't worry. We're all safe with N'Jadaka. Let's talk later when I get to the upper floors," Yani said.
The strength in Yani's voice helped Disa pull it together.
"It's hard not being there with all of you. Being far away magnifies everything. Just please be careful…all of you. As soon as it is safe to do so, bring us back," Disa said.
"We love you Umi Disa," Sydette said.
"I love you all, too. Be good for your Mama and don't run Grandpop ragged."
"We won't," Riki said with a mischievous grin.
"I can already tell that you're tricking me," Disa said.
Her mood lifted into higher spirits.
"We'll let you go. N'Jadaka…"
Disa couldn't get the words out. Her eyes told him she loved him instead.
"Love you back, Disa. Get some rest and keep the emergency lines open on all your kimoyos," he said.
Their images winked out.
"I'll take them up," Nakia said.
She let N'Jadaka hug Riki and Sydette, then led them away. Yani linked her arm in his, watching their children take solemn steps. His kimoyos lit up again with an emergency military signature. Okoye's avatar popped up.
"Kumkani, something has entered the atmosphere," Okoye said.
"On my way."
Yani hugged him tight.
"I have to go," he said.
He walked with her to the throne room's emergency departure Talon port. The Royal Talon Fighter floated down onto the secure platform and two Dora Milaje stepped out to escort him. Yani gripped his face and pulled his head down to her.
"Come back to me in one piece or else my old granny and your mother will come after you," she whispered.
Her sweet breath tickled his nose, her moist lips touching his lightly. He kissed her with tiny butterfly kisses before delving into her mouth with his tongue. She stroked his hair and he used the pads of his fingertips to touch her behind, holding back his desire to dig into the flesh more to stay with her.
"N'Jadaka, there are UAPs crashing into the dome shield," T'Challa said.
Yani broke away from him first and smoothed down the front of his shirt. She stepped back and he mentally commanded his Golden Jaguar suit to spread across his body.
"So handsome," Yani said. "Go on… king," she said.
He left her standing on the throne room port. The Talon Fighter darted across the sky and N'Jadaka scanned the puffy white clouds above.
The dome shield held up against the repeated slams of fireball explosives and more streaked down toward Wakanda all across the covering.
His first stop was checking in with the military strategists he hand-picked in a protected area behind the battle formation. General Sampha from the Border Tribe Army shook the king's hand and shared their battle plans on a floating table. The booming of projectiles striking the dome thundered above them.
"Kumkani, our dome shield is at one hundred percent. The weapons striking us are scanning the integrity of our protection, and the impact is growing stronger. How do you wish for us to proceed?" Sampha said.
Sampha's face carried a light sheen of sweat from the blazing sun and his eyes bulged a bit each time a projectile plummeted to earth and slammed into the dome as if he were annoyed by the audacity of aliens coming for Wakanda. Surliness in his voice gave N'Jadaka confidence that the Wakandans were about that smoke. Their military had trained for centuries for such an attack, even if it came from outer space.
N'Jadaka scanned their battle plans. Because these were not humans, the element of unknown factors had them at a disadvantage.
"The Dora Milaje are our most elite shock troops…close range warriors. We'll keep them at the front. I want more Jabari warriors fortifying the target area and a contingency in the capital near the palace."
The image of another drop ship landing outside the dome shook the ground with seismic force.
"Any sign of Thanos yet?" N'Jadaka asked.
"None," Banner answered.
"I don't like these small infantry formations here," N'Jadaka said, pointing to several gaps around the Avengers, "We're too exposed. I want skirmishers to harass and immobilize anything that may get through the wall."
General Sampha rubbed his chin while staring at the infantry.
"Fanning out into a long line makes it harder to flank us," Sampha said.
N'Jadaka pointed to a spot on the formation.
"It weakens the middle here. These fuckers traveled across galaxies that we never have. Ain't no telling what they have to break our lines."
N'Jadaka patted his shoulder.
"I'm not questioning your ability, Sampha. I'm thinking outside the box with the unknown."
The heads of the Navy and Airforce stood at attention awaiting more orders on their end.
N'Jadaka tapped a communicator on the war table.
"Rhodey… Wilson… I'll have the Wakandan airforce work with you inside and out of the barrier when attacks begin. Rhodey, I'm going to use you as an attack chopper, and Wilson, you'll help with the area of affect weaponry. You'll keep the explosives coming when necessary. General Lumumba and Lieutenant General Amilcar are patched into your communicators for commands."
"Roger that!" Both men answered simultaneously.
N'Jadaka worked on strategy and offensive measures with the leadership until the UAPs above them ceased falling. The suddenness unnerved them.
"I will go to T'Challa on the frontline."
"Wakanda Forever, kumkani!" the military heads barked out.
Two of his most menacing Doras waited for him inside the Royal Talon Fighter. They flew him to the battleground. He jumped down from Talon Fighter using its gravity tracker to slow him as he landed next to T'Challa on the battlefield.
"Ready?"
"Yes," T'Challa answered.
Rogers and the rest of the Avengers stood in a row staring up at the trees outside the shield that hid their enemy. M'Baku leaned toward N'Jadaka.
"We have already placed the Jabari warriors you asked to be stationed near Princess Shuri's lab for extra backup in case our line is broken. They have the vibranium shields you gave them activated," M'Baku said.
N'Jadaka shook his hand.
"We can't have them circling the dome. Keeping them here is the goal," N'Jadaka said.
N'Jadaka focused on the tree line outside of the dome again. The earth rumbled once more and giant triangular-shaped metal spheres rose up like hideous temples of doom.
"Bast protect us," T'Challa mumbled.
"Two of them are approaching the barrier," Okoye said.
N'Jadaka jerked his head toward T'Challa.
"Let's see how diplomacy works," N'Jadaka said.
T'Challa, Rogers, and Natasha followed him to the edge of the barrier. An alien three times N'Jadaka's size that looked like a badly rendered goblin waited with a female alien sporting horns and a dark persona. She had to be at least eight feet tall and slid a sword against the barrier. They were humanoid in nature and carried an erect stance of fearlessness. Their eyes locked and the killer in them both recognized the ferocity in the other. An unspoken understanding passed between them. It didn't matter that the creature before him came from a different galaxy across the universe. Game peeped game. Underneath the exterior, N'Jadaka sensed quiet respect. As a child of Ogum, he carried a fierce energy in his eyes. Before N'Jadaka could speak, Natasha glared at the aliens and taunted them.
"Where's your other friend?" she teased.
The female alien shifted her gaze from N'Jadaka to Natasha.
"You will pay for his life with yours."
The female alien turned back to N'Jadaka.
"Thanos will have that stone."
"Not on my watch as king," N'Jadaka said.
"What do they call you?"
"King N'Jadaka… son of Prince N'Jobu and Princess Califia. You?"
"Proxima Midnight. Prepare to be slaughtered."
"You are in Wakanda now," T'Challa interjected. "Thanos will have nothing but dust and blood."
Proxima smirked at the Black Panther.
"We…have blood to spare."
Proxima thrust her sword-holding arm into the air and the giant pyramid structures behind her rose higher from the ground.
"I guess it's on then," N'Jadaka said.
Proxima gave him a sardonic grin and he stomped back toward their line of defense. The tension of not knowing the terror they faced rippled along the soldiers behind N'Jadaka.
"As long as the barrier holds, we're good," N'Jadaka reassured everyone.
The ground shook, followed by clouds of dust outside the barrier announcing the start of the battle. T'Challa stepped forward and shouted "Yibambe!"
All the Wakandans repeated the words after him and N'Jadaka's chest swelled with emotion. He stood with his cousin to protect the world he had come to love. The land of his father. The dream of his mother.
"We defend this to the death!" N'Jadaka shouted. "Hold this line and don't let anything get through it!'
He strode to the front with arms outstretched showing off his claws and regarded the soldiers with blazing eyes.
"When Thanos comes, we must destroy the time stone so he can't reverse anything. Do you understand me?!" he shouted.
The others roared their understanding with weapons raised.
"Holy shit!"
Banner's voice broke through the shouting on their side. N'Jadaka studied the barrier and witnessed the ferocious creatures barreling toward war. Monstrous, six-limbed beasts with the shrieks of hell erupting from their throats.
Bast cooled his mind, and Ogum amped up his fighting spirit to the max.
The alien soldiers slammed their bodies into the barrier, killing themselves, but several were able to push through over the bodies of dead comrades who sacrificed themselves like fire ants crossing a river. Sam and Rhodey flew overhead to take care of the breach, dropping explosives that slowed a few enemies down.
"Shit, they're circling," Banner said.
"How do we stop that?" Rogers said.
The roar of Wakandan aircraft zoomed over the dome and took up battling the beasts outside of the barrier. Despite their exceptional attempts to corral the enemy in one spot, the swarm of alien fighters still overrode them by sheer numbers.
N'Jadaka glanced at T'Challa.
"We have to redirect their movement by making a kill zone," N'Jadaka said.
"I'll open the barrier and keep them at a distance," T'Challa said.
T'Challa touched his ear and spoke to Shuri.
"On my signal, open Northwest section seventeen," T'Challa commanded.
"Requesting confirmation on behalf of Princess Shuri…you said open the barrier?" A woman's voice asked, close enough for N'Jadaka to hear.
"Give him access and on his signal," N'Jadaka spoke into his own earbud.
M'Baku gave N'Jadaka a look of worry. Okoye threw back her shoulders in anticipation.
The barrier opened and the aliens poured in. Wilson flew out to engage behind the barrier with the Wakandan forces.
"Wakanda Forever!" N'Jadaka shouted.
He ran forward and the Talon Fighter's gravitational tracker beam snatched him up in the air.
"You two, go fight with the Black Panther," N'Jadaka ordered.
His Doras jumped down through the tracker beam and he took control of the Talon Fighter, sending down a torrent of firepower to kill monsters. Down below, his cousin took hits to build up kinetic energy and blasted creatures while the Avengers dug into the trenches of war.
He provided long-range support with Rhodey creating a large damage area around the point of impact that pushed back on the hordes bursting through despite their best efforts. Outside the dome, Wilson and the Wakandan Air support were effective in bypassing their line of sight beyond the trees. The outriders began to bunch up around the gap they opened. Their incredible speed became dangerous as they charged inside.
"Fuck! This is straight-up melee combat. Keep them from that defensive line at all costs!" N'Jadaka said.
Okoye's voice crackled in his ear.
"We can't mitigate the power of their charge, kumkani. We are expert close-range fighters but there are just too many of them."
"Second string is on the way, General," W'Kabi interjected.
N'Jadaka watched from the sky as new shock troops converged on the sides in full-body vibranium shields, battling through the trees, keeping the beasts at bay.
"Shuri, progress check," N'Jadaka said.
"Still slow-going. I have just cracked the outer core and can begin the real work," Shuri said with a strained tone of work under pressure.
The Avengers fought valiantly below him and he provided cover and long-range firepower. He fought the temptation to fly outside the barrier because the teeming hordes still overwhelmed the shock troops. Luckily, the first wave of enemy combatants were simple-minded creatures, full of snarling rage and not much else. There was no planned intelligence in their fighting strategy other than running over them.
"Keep them from the capital!" he shouted, flying after outriders who broke past the line.
Yani paced in front of Nakia.
Ilana and Zola scurried about organizing emergency clothing and assisted Nakia's nanny with Toussaint's extra diapers and blankets for travel. Noxolo sent word that the royal family was to be moved to the top floor of the East Palace where the structure could detach and fly off to safety elsewhere. Yani had hoped they wouldn't have to move from Nakia's suite because it told them all that the battle had grown worse than expected and N'Jadaka wanted them on standby evacuation.
Sydette held Toussaint while Nakia used a breast pump to extract milk for her son. Riki leaned against a wall window, watching for any signs of his father of T'Challa.
"I can smell smoke, Mama," Riki said.
Yani sniffed. The air filter pumped in outside air and the acrid stench of something metallic and burning wafted in.
"Shelter Griot, switch to indoor filtered air," Yani commanded.
"Yes, Princess Yani," a female-coded A.I. answered.
Within minutes, the burning smell disappeared.
"Yani, it's Queen Ramonda," Nakia said, holding up her wrist.
Ramonda's avatar shimmered in vivid colors.
"Baba Z and Umama are resting finally. I made them some tea with x'tin leaves added. They should sleep for the next few hours. They have asked that all of you come to the Jabari mountains at once. Dante and Marisol arrived with Tywla and Bibi," Ramonda said.
"I would like to stay here until we hear word from T'Challa and N'Jadaka's team," Nakia said.
"We want our grandchildren and great-grandchildren here with us. There is a half cruiser on standby."
Ramonda's terse tone left no room for arguing.
"Queen Ramonda, N'Jadaka has this shelter programmed to fly to St. Thomas," Yani said.
"Out of Wakanda?"
"Yes."
Ramonda gazed at Toussaint in Sydette's arms.
"I hate that the last few generations of Udaku children have witnessed nothing but war and family disruption."
"I understand Queen Mother, but we are together in this. What we are experiencing is an external threat…but one that unites us," Nakia said.
Yani's kimoyo lit up.
"I'll take this in another room," Yani said.
Sliding a bedroom door open, she dipped in and tapped her beads. Disa's image filled the room in life-size 3D seated in a chair.
"Hey," Disa said.
"We've moved to the emergency transport shelter in the palace."
"No word on how bad it is?"
Yani shook her head. Disa fretted.
"I keep praying and trying to stay positive. N'Jadaka and T'Challa's kimoyos let us know that they're alive, but that's it. I wasn't going to call but it's been hours now and the stress of not knowing anything is eating me up. All the media I can track in Wakanda here only plays emergency broadcasts commanding citizens to stay sheltered and on alert. No sirens have rung out in the city so that's a good sign, I guess," Disa said.
"So far."
"You look calm, though."
Yani sat on a bed.
"Do you believe in long gone relatives speaking to you?" Yani asked.
"Yes…like in my dreams. Sometimes my father comes to me. I wake up feeling like he's still here. Why?"
"I had a dream that my grandmother from way back…Queen Mary…came to me. She told me I had to stand tall with N'Jadaka… that I had to be fierce. Her say my future is important with him. It was real to mi. This war is only a test for us, so I'm not afraid of him dying in it. He won't. The worry I feel is for the people around him...and what we'll face as a nation when this is over."
"Hmmm, I wish my daddy would come to me in a dream like that!"
They shared soft laughter together.
"I can see that you believe what she said, so I will believe it too," Disa said.
"I'm glad you believe me. Some people get scared of spiritual stuff or think it's wish-fulfillment. I just have to be patient and pray that this war comes to an end soon."
"How is Nakia and the children?"
"Hanging in there. All the grandparents want us up in the Jabari mountains."
"Honestly, if I were there, that's the place I'd want to be."
Disa crossed her leg and grinned.
"What?" Yani asked.
"Adebiyi wants me to move to the mountains after we come back. Not moving in together, but me being closer to him."
"Do you want to?"
"I think the change in scenery is needed for me and Joba. I love the Golden City with all my heart, but being away has given me time to think about you and N'Jadaka. You two need space. I don't think Joba and I should be living up under your new household."
"But I don't want you to leave!"
The yelp in Yani's voice caught Disa by surprise.
"It's not a bad thing, Yani."
"We started this messy journey together and we'll finish it together. You're my big sister in so many ways, and this new life…you're a part of that. The Jabari mountains are so far, and our children need to be together," Yani said.
"The mountains are not that far with our transports. You'll have Joba every weekend…that's three days a week mind you, and I'm going to be in and out of the city for my company. I'll be there all the time."
"It won't be the same."
"You survived when you left the palace mad at me," Disa teased.
"That was different. I still missed you…I needed time away to grow up… to clear my head and realize how foolish I was being with you and myself."
"The change will be good for all of us, and who knows, it may not be permanent. I want to try it out and see where it takes me and Adebiyi."
"You're in love," Yani said.
The glow was all over Disa's face.
"I do love him… and he loves me."
Disa's eyes shined and Yani welled up for her.
"This life has been so crazy for me, Yani. I have no regrets about anything."
"Me neither."
"Really?"
"Not anymore. Seeing my great-great-grandmother…hearing her voice…seeing her…I know there are things that are beyond my comprehension, but I'm surrounded by loving people now. Like you."
"I'm glad you became my little sister. You, Marisol, and Twyla are as close to me as my best friends here in the States. Truth be told, the three of you have actually been closer because of your connection with N'Jadaka."
"We've both grown up a lot in two years."
"A long ass two years!'
Yani giggled.
"Allah will protect us all," Disa said.
Yani crinkled her nose with a thought.
"What are you thinking?" Disa asked.
"Wakanda has faced aggression four times in thirty years. I don't think they're built for civil and foreign fighting constantly. They've been a utopia for a long time and mentally, I don't know if it'll be easy for them to pick up the pieces without a national therapy session after all of this."
"They have N'Jadaka to show them the way back…and you. Remember, you spun a lost straw man back into gold. If you did that for our king, you'll have no problem doing it for the nation. I believe in you, little sister!"
Disa winked at her.
"I'll let you go. Joba and Adebiyi are going for a walk in Central Park with me. The weather is nice and I have to get out of this hotel for an hour at least. Fresh air will do me good."
"Have a nice time. I'll contact you as soon as I get any news from the front lines."
They blew kisses to one another and the call ended.
Yani wandered over to the bedroom window and tracked the placement of the sun. It would make the slow, downward trek into sunset within an hour. She turned to walk back into the living room when erratic booming noises shook the windows. Touching the nearest window, she sucked in a breath watching flames rise inside gargantuan plumes of black smoke racing to blot out the sky. The windows rattled again before a secondary protective vibranium barrier swarmed over the palace exterior, shielding them from the noise of seismic rumbles. Her heart lurched in her chest.
Yani noticed the wide darting movements of fighter drones flying through the pitch blackness blanketing the trees in the royal garden. The war had moved further inland and the drones were sent to reinforce the palace defense forces. If she could see it close from the east palace windows, the Wakandan defense line had been broken, and the enemy was near.
Racing into the living room, she joined Nakia who pulled the children closer to her on the couch. Riki jumped on her lap and Sydette handed Toussaint back to Nakia who tucked her breasts back into a nursing bra and covered the baby up. Ilana and Zola dashed into the room and waved for them to follow their lead.
Zola clasped Yani's hand and Sydette's while Ilana lifted Riki into her arms.
"We have to go into the flight room," Zola said. "Aneka is waiting for word from the king. Noxolo will detach us from the palace if he says it's time to leave."
"Are we losing?" Yani asked.
"I don't know, but we were ordered to stand by."
"Is Baba coming?" Sydette asked.
"I don't know, Sweet Pea."
Yani wore a brave face and pushed back on doubting Queen Mary.
The barrage of creatures lunging through the narrow opening of section seventeen overwhelmed the northwest defense. Even the once-missing Asgardian Thor couldn't help stop the influx of diverse creatures spilling through the narrow gauntlet into Wakanda. Several Avengers had left the interior of the barrier to destroy the spacecraft that brought the aliens in on the outside.
N'Jadaka settled his mentally tired body on the crest of a hill near Shuri's lab. T'Challa insisted that he fall back to give strategic support in their dwindling and scattered formation. He spent the last hour circling the forces with the Talon Fighter outside the breach, providing extra firepower for the secondary Border Tribe troops led by W'Kabi. Okoye's estranged husband proved to be a superior officer and ground fighter. The Border Tribe shields helped prevent the aliens from overtaking their offensive measures outside, but even then, a few enemies slipped through that N'Jadaka handled from the sky. He programmed the Talon Fighter to protect the lab from the air while he stomped on the ground searching for breakthroughs to kill.
"Shuri! Tell Wanda to end Vision now! They've got these giant fucking wheel machines tearing up the ground out here! They busted up under the barrier and we can't control the entry point anymore!" he shouted into his kimoyo.
"Fall back! Fall back!" T'Challa shouted in N'Jadaka's earbud.
N'Jadaka scanned the area below watching helplessly as the wheels razed the dark rich earth of Wakanda in the destruction. The enemy's power and weapons were too numerous to overcome. Giving Shuri time to save Vision had been a grave mistake. One that could cost his children's lives. The faces of Sydette, Riki, Joba, and baby Toussaint flashed across his mind.
"I'm going to keep trying, N'Jadaka, there's some progress," Shuri said, still hopeful.
"Time is up! I will come up there and rip it out of his skull myself!"
The horrendous crashing noises of the wheels forced N'Jadaka to charge toward Border Tribe soldiers positioned in front of him. If Thanos didn't come soon, there wouldn't be enough warriors to face him. Perhaps that was his plan overall.
"Get those wheels down!" he ordered, charging forward to help.
Wanda streaked overhead with bursts of crimson energy shooting out of her fingertips like lightning strikes. She lifted a linked row of earth-killing wheels and threw them on top of enemy combatants.
Ayo's voice broke through the chatter of N'Jadaka's earbud.
"We're being attacked inside the lab!" Ayo grunted.
"Shuri, get out of there!" T'Challa said.
N'Jadaka ran back up the hill toward the lab.
"Shuri, I'll be there soon!" N'Jadaka panted.
His suit provided him with a concentrated sip of electrolytes, refreshing his dehydrated muscles as he lunged forward.
"Shuri?!"
Panic lodged in his throat when his cousin didn't answer back right away. The crashing of glass and yelling drew his attention high above the trees that surrounded the lab. Two figures tumbled across the uneven sides of the building's roof. Vision held an alien by the throat.
"Vision is outside the lab!" he shouted.
"On my way!" Banner answered.
N'Jadaka's kimoyos showed him Shuri's vitals were fine. Her crumpled form and Ayo's were on the floor of the lab. He leaped up the side of the building and jumped through the gaping hole in the glass where Vision crashed through.
"Hey lil cuz," N'Jadaka said.
He lifted Shuri's head. She moaned and reached for her forehead where a bruised purple lump rose.
"Vision?" she asked.
"Fighting an alien."
"I wasn't done with him."
"Too late for that."
Ayo shook off the blow to her midsection. Her hands and face bled from cuts protecting Shuri. N'Jadaka reached for her and helped her up.
"Get Shuri to the palace shelter. Once you arrive, wait for my command to leave for St. Thomas. Got it?"
"Yes, kumkani," Ayo said.
"St. Thomas? N'Jadaka, no, I need to be here to help you and T'Challa."
Shuri plucked glass shards from her clothes and picked some embedded into her bleeding palm. He helped remove pieces from her hair.
"I promised Umama to get you out of here if it got bad," he said.
"Well, how bad is it? Is Thanos here?"
"No, but—"
A shiver went through N'Jadaka's body. Beyond a sensory overload, his entire form tensed involuntarily afterward, and his gaze ratcheted toward the busted lab window. Something new had arrived on Earth.
"Ayo, take her…go…go!"
Shuri gleaned from his tone and his eyes that things were about to go left. She hugged him tight.
"Watch out for my brother… no matter what…stay with him," Shuri murmured into his ear.
Ayo tugged on Shuri's arm. A quad stinger aircraft flew down to the shattered window and the Dora guided Shuri inside of it. They took off, and N'Jadaka watched it zip across the sky heading for the rest of the Udaku progeny. He tapped a kimoyo and the Royal Talon Fighter swooped past the building sideways. He leaped toward the tracker beam that delivered him inside of it.
N'Jadaka took over manual flying and jetted across the trees toward the biting sensation that quaked down in his bones. Eventually, the sensation fanned out to a low hum in his inner ear that grew in pressure. He hovered above Wanda who knelt beside Vision resting against a felled tree trunk. Banner jumped into view with his iron suit and N'Jadaka waited for something to materialize on his viewscreen.
T'Challa waved up to him.
"I'll back you up," N'Jadaka said.
"It's him!" Banner yelled.
A greenish-blue gas shimmered like an aurora borealis and a giant purple man stepped into their world. N'Jadaka assumed Thanos opened a powerful wormhole and expected more soldiers to spill out. Instead, the bald giant sauntered in alone.
Thanos hadn't taken two steps to start any shit yet and N'Jadka shot sonic vibranium blasters targeting the infinity gauntlet.
"Get that fucking glove off him!"
N'Jadaka's orders set everyone in motion. T'Challa clawed Thanos's neck to distract him as Banner grabbed for the gauntlet. Thanos flicked T'Challa away like a bothersome gnat and tossed Banner into a great stone mound that his iron suit went right through like it was Casper the friendly ghost.
Rogers and Bucky double-teamed next while Wanda threw crimson fire into Thanos's face. The Infinity Gauntlet gave him tremendous strength and they were clearly no match for him. Even his skin seemed impenetrable to any firepower.
"Wanda, destroy the stone!" T'Challa shouted.
Wanda stood frozen staring at her lover. She threw her left hand out forming a fiery red swirling barrier against Thanos. T'Challa scrambled to grab at the gauntlet with Rogers pulling on Thanos's other arm.
"Bitch, if you don't blast him!" N'Jadaka thundered at Wanda.
He lowered the Talon Fighter and aimed his sonic blasters at Vision's head, shooting off three rounds that hit the A.I. being with bull's eye precision in the center of his forehead. Vision's skull exploded and the glowing gold mind stone floated in the air.
"Destroy it!" T'Challa yelled.
The shock of N'Jadaka's killshot paralyzed Wanda. Instead of finishing the job as planned, she dropped to her knees and grappled with holding what was left of Vision. The king of Wakanda would've killed her too for being a useless soldier wasting time, however, she jumped to her feet and used her right hand to blast the stone with her powers while using her other hand to keep a shield up separating Thanos from it.
"T'Challa, we have to get the time stone away from him!"
His cousin was already in motion taking advantage of Wanda's glowing shield keeping Thanos at bay as she worked on the mind stone. Bucky jumped onto Thanos's neck using his legs to choke him. T'Challa yanked on the gauntlet with Rogers. Victory looked promising once Thor slammed his hammer into Thanos's chest. T'Challa grabbed for the time stone.
The mind stone lit up into a brilliant, growing blaze of gold power, shattering into bits that precipitated a blinding explosion with a mile-wide radius. The force of the explosion jostled the Talon Fighter.
Their combined efforts weren't enough.
N'Jadaka's heart dropped. Thanos snapped his fingers and a sickening feeling of déjà vu pressed the king's attention into a tiny pinprick. His hands waved over the control panels of the Talon Fighter, and down below he watched Wanda hold off Thanos with both hands. Vision rose to his knees and begged Wanda to kill him. N'Jadaka shook his head, the cool creeping dread of uncertainty washing over him. Hadn't he blasted Vision already to get Wanda on task? Why was he still alive?
T'Challa, Rogers, and Bucky jumped him, but Thanos flung them far away. Too far to get back to him quickly. Something in N'Jadaka's gut told him that was wrong, and he couldn't fathom the eerie sameness flooding his cortex that edged around the wrongness of the situation.
"Bitch, if you don't blast him!" N'Jadaka thundered to Wanda.
Wanda reacted like the situation was odd for her too, but she stared at Vision and began blasting the mind stone. N'Jadaka left the Talon Fighter on automatic pilot and pounced down from the ship's neon blue tracker beam aiming to land on the purple menace himself. He glanced over at Wanda and—
The fuck?
Another Thanos knocked Wanda aside and ripped the mind stone from Vision's forehead. N'Jadaka glanced back down at the ground that rushed toward him, and the second Thanos that looked up at him grinned, then faded away into nothingness, the illusion so real that N'Jadaka felt the shadow cross over his body as he landed with cat-like reflexes. He ran toward the real Thanos like the devil was on his heels. Thanos slipped the mind stone into its place on the gauntlet, even as Thor's hammer sliced through his chest.
"What did you do? What did you do?!" Thor shouted to Thanos.
White smoke puffed around the Infinity Gauntlet which had a burnt and tarnished look to it despite the gleam of the stones themselves.
A wormhole opened with the same greenish-blue smoke Thanos arrived in. It sucked him backward with a rush of air and he disappeared, like a kimoyo avatar winking out. Thor's hammer was no longer lodged in his chest and fell with a thud when the wormhole closed.
Sound left Wakanda.
The quiet drowned out the quick steps of T'Challa joining him.
"Where is he?" T'Challa said.
N'Jadaka shook his head in dismay, uncertain of the moment they were in.
"Is it over?" Okoye asked.
She darted out of the brush surrounding them and T'Challa patted her shoulder.
Wanda wept over Vision. Everyone else looked around bewildered and catching their breath.
"Where'd he go? Thor? Where'd he go?" Rogers asked, holding his busted side with blood pooling on his lip.
Thor only glanced around confused, in a daze like they all were. Okoye dropped down to her rump and gave a weary groan. N'Jadaka looked over the area, uneasy, and sensed the crackling of energy that made him feel off-kilter again.
Bucky stepped forward, staring at his left hand.
"Steve?" Bucky croaked before looking up at all of them.
His left hand became a dark gray blob of smoke that flaked away from his body like campfire ash with his legs following suit. He flopped down onto his face and disintegrated right before them.
"Shit!" N'Jadaka hissed.
They all jumped away like a contagion had been let loose, and clearly, it was because screams rippled across the battlefield. T'Challa reached for Okoye to get her off the ground.
"Up general, this is no place to die," T'Challa said.
Okoye reached for his arm and N'Jadaka's.
"Cuz," N'Jadaka said.
T'Challa's hand that held Okoye's arm turned into dark smoke too and flaked away slowly.
"N'Jadaka," T'Challa said, his eyes wide with fear.
"No…"
N'Jadaka tried to embrace T'Challa to hold him close, to never let him go, but he drifted away on ash and dry wind.
True fear gripped him then. This was how the world ended for half of the universe. A sad floating away in the deepest, quietest, black void. N'Jadaka tapped his kimoyo.
"Close section seventeen."
No one answered him.
"Barrier team, I said close section seventeen!"
A frightened voice answered.
"Kumkani…we are experiencing an anomaly…people are disappearing. I will close the barrier," a man said.
All around them, pieces of dark ash floated, choking the air with grief and shock. N'Jadaka grabbed Okoye's arm and the Talon Fighter pulled them up into its belly. The general took over flying manually and they both scanned the battlefield as bewildered soldiers gawked at people floating away in pieces.
"This cannot be…this cannot be…" Okoyo moaned.
Aliens that hadn't succumbed to the vanishing ran toward their spacecraft and flew away, leaving destruction in their wake.
"Kumkani, I'm ordering soldiers back to our barracks to regroup. Are you and the Black Panther alright?" W'Kabi asked.
"T'Challa is gone!" Okoye wept.
Her voice carried sadness and relief that W'Kabi was still on earth.
"W'Kabi, we'll meet you ten minutes at the regrouping coordinates. We need a muster roll immediately," N'Jadaka said.
His kimoyo lit up. Yani's signature. He exhaled and kept his composure. She was still with him. He tapped another bead to reach Disa.
"Yani, are you and the kids okay?"
The tone of his voice scared Yani. Her image hovered in the air.
"Some of the staff are gone…I don't know what happened to them…"
Sydette shrieked and N'Jadaka thought he would fall through the Talon Fighter.
"Mama! The guard turned into dust!" Sydette cried.
"N'Jadaka, what's happening?" Yani said.
"I can't say for sure yet but the fighting is over. Is Riki okay? Nakia and the baby?"
"We are all here. Is T'Challa with you?" Nakia asked. Her image appeared next to Yani's.
"I'm sorry Nakia…he disappeared in front of me and Okoye."
"No…"
Nakia covered her mouth. Toussaint was tied around her chest.
"We don't know what has happened to them all, Nakia," Okoye said.
"Is he dead?" Nakia said.
"I don't know," N'Jadaka said.
Shuri's signature lit up his kimoyo and he added her to their call. She looked distraught and teary-eyed.
"My mother told me that Baba Z and Marisol are gone. Most of their staff are gone too. Everyone else is still there in their household. Dante, Twyla, and Bibi are all safe," Shuri said.
"Everyone stay put. Okoye and I are going to meet with our military heads who survived this. I'll convene a meeting with the Council of Elders once I have more intel on what we're looking at nationwide. The outside is doing the same thing, so we can focus on us for now…"
Nakia broke down and Yani held her up.
"Yani, have Noxolo and Aneka take Nakia to the Jabari mountains to be with Auntie Ramonda and Umama. I may not be back tonight, so don't wait up for me with the children."
Yani closed her eyes and touched her lips before she spoke to him.
"N'Jadaka…have you checked on Disa and Joba?" Yani asked.
N'Jadaka glanced at his beads. Disa hadn't responded to his call.
"I'm trying to reach them now. Please, everyone, stay strong and together," N'Jadaka said.
He ended the call and frantically typed on his kimoyo.
He couldn't reach Disa or Joba.
One Sunny Day
(Stardew Valley) (Haley x Female Farmer)
Chapter 2
Sunday finally arrives. Turns out I could only bring one big bag of my stuff with me and a carry-on sized bag since I have to take a train there. I wanted to drive out there but my parents were hesitant about me doing so. That conversation ended in a compromise which resulted in this train situation.
"Are you sure you have everything, dear?" my mom anxiously questions. She has been very iffy on this whole idea and is very worried that something will happen to me. She should know I am able to handle myself out in the world by now.
I am not exactly the girliest looking girl in the world. I don't wear a lot of fancy clothes, or do my hair all neatly. I like to just wear baggy jeans and a graphic t-shirt most of the time with my hair in a braid. I am also pretty athletic looking with broad shoulders and a good bit of meat on my arms and legs. I played a lot of sports in my life and would visit the gym here and there when I had time. I am almost kind of intimidating to people especially since I am pretty tall compared to most girls. I tend to keep a mean glare on my face but I really don't mean to. Some people say I have an RBF (resting bitch face).
Of course in a city like this, at the crappiest high school I can ever imagine, I got called a few homophobic slurs in high school. That is about the worst I have had to deal with when I leave the house. People tend to clock me immediately for being into girls and like to tease me about it. I have never had to outwardly tell people my sexuality because they all just assume. They assume right of course. I have even had girls try to experiment with me at parties when they are drunk out of their minds, but of course I pushed them all away.
I've never actually had a girlfriend though. No one I have met has ever been my type. I don't really know what I am looking for, but I know I'll know when I meet the right girl.
"Yes, I am sure I have everything, mom" I roll my eyes and let out a laugh. She scowls at me for my behaviour.
"I am just making sure. I know how you are."
"We better get going. Train leaves in about an hour," my dad says from the car. They decided he would drive me to the station so they didn't have to worry about getting my car back home.
I run over and give my mom a big hug. My sister continues to text away on her phone. She looks up for a second and I give her a wave as I walk down the driveway. I won't even try to hug her. She would hate it.
I get in the car and my dad pulls away from the house. It is only about a 15 minute drive from my house to the station.
"I don't know if there is any service out there to text us, but you know you can always go old school and send us a letter if you need anything, right?" my dad questions.
"Yes I know dad. Don't you worry."
"You do know how to format and send a letter if you need to?"
I chuckle and nod my head, "yes I do. I know how to write a letter."
"Alright I am just making sure. I don't know what they teach you in school these days."
The train station enters our view and I turn to get my small carry-on bag from the back seat. He pulls up at the entrance and puts the car into park. Typical of him to park right in the way of everyone.
I hurriedly gather my bigger bag from the trunk and quickly say my goodbyes to my dad through his window. I hate being in the way of everyone. It is very embarrassing. He gives me a fist bump and I rush into the station to wait for my train.
                                                🌻 🌻 🌻
The train ride wasn't long at all. Just slightly over an hour. The train was pretty jammed packed with people, but no one else got off at the Pelican Town train station. It was just me.
With my bags in tow, I begin to walk around the shabby train platform. I have no idea what to do now or where to go from here. I pulled out my phone to text my mom that I made it safely, but like my dad said, no cell service. I put my phone back and look up to observe the area. I must've not been paying that close attention because on my left there is an older gentleman standing at the end of the platform.
"How long have you been there?" I ask, startled. His appearance made me flinch slightly. I wasn't expecting anyone to be waiting for me.
"Just slightly before your arrival. I knew you'd be coming to town today," the gentleman answers.
Creepy, I say in my head.
I give the man a slight nod and cautiously walk closer to him.
"So you are the granddaughter, eh? Your grandpa always talked about you. All good things of course. My name's Lewis. I am the Mayor of this here town.I've actually been Mayor of for over twenty years! No one ever runs against me when it's time for an election. I like to think that it means I'm doing my job well. I like being Mayor here," He rambles, "Your mom told us you would be coming today. I hear you are going to be living at the old farm. It hasn't been touched since your grandpa passed. I bid you good luck getting it back up and running," Mayor Lewis explains. He sure does have a lot to say.
He begins to lead me away from the train platform. As we walk, he goes on and on about Pelican Town and its origins. I try to act engaged and respond as nicely as possible. I don't want to give anyone a bad first impression of me.
We finally arrive at what seems to be the town centre. Many small buildings are scattered around and are connected by a stone path. A few people are walking around at this time of day, all looking in my direction.
"This is Pierre's shop," Mayor Lewis gestures towards a two story, beige building with a bulletin board hung up on it. "You will find everything you need here when it comes to planting seeds and getting groceries. Or, you can go to the Joja Mart that is just across the river that way. Not many of our citizens go there. They are very against that place. Many of them complain about the company and the building even being there."
I raise my eyebrow at him very slightly. He seems very clueless and unconcerned about Joja Mart. I have always read bad things about that place in the news. Clearly all the citizens here have common sense about how bad that place is too.
Mayor Lewis gestures to the blue building next to Pierre's.
"This is the clinic. If you ever get hurt, or need a doctor for any reason, Harvey will take good care of you here. You'll also sometimes find Maru here too. You'll know who that is soon enough. We have very few residents here in Pelican Town."
We walk a couple more steps but he stops abruptly and turns back around and points to another building.
"I almost forgot. That is the Stardrop Saloon. You'll probably be needing to go there tonight for dinner since you won't have anything set up."
We begin walking again, but this time, we actually keep walking.
After passing by a run down bus on a short path, we get to a house that sits all alone.
"And here we are! Your new home! I will leave you to get everything unpacked. Don't be alarmed when other residents show up at your doorstep to greet you. Everyone here is very friendly."
Mayor Lewis starts cutting across the giant, debris filled field towards a pathway south of the house.
I wonder where that leads to, I question.
I walk up to the house and try the door knob. It opens with no problem.
"I really need to get a lock on this door," I say to myself.
When I walk in, I notice that there is only a small bed, an old TV, a fireplace and a door that must lead to a washroom.
"What the hell?" I put a hand on my head in exasperation. I did not expect to live like this. I let out a huge sigh and set my bags down on the bed. I should've just stayed living at home.
So with your obvious love of barbie einstein level hair - it's got me wondering how vain FB!Yelena is about picture day with the kiddos and family photos. Is she the terror that has them dressed to the nines by 7am and ensures they stay clean and proper for the 3 hours until their shoot?
Does Kate help? Is she a hindrance? Does she break out Katherine for family photos?
---
There’s been so much angst lately and I miss our FBAU! Is Yelena particularly cuddly with her kids or is that more of a Kate thing
///
Okay, this isn't EXACTLY an answer to these two, but it was inspired by them.
---
Yelena buzzes around the kitchen, clad in one of Kate's old Columbia Archery t-shirts and a pair of satin short shorts. Her long blonde hair is fashioned into a messy, slept-on braid. Kate is a natural late riser, and the kids inherited this trait from her; therefore, Yelena looks forward to having weekend mornings to herself. This time is precious to her, as it's when she can enjoy the peace and quiet before the rest of the house wakes up. These little moments help keep her sane amidst the chaos of life.
Yelena takes her first satisfying sip of coffee and revels in the simple pleasure. However, her tranquil moment is interrupted by the sound of shuffling behind her. She glances at the clock. 7:15 AM. It's much too early for anyone else to be up, especially the grown adult mumbling and dragging their feet.
Kate flops her entire weight against Yelena's back, her head finding a resting place on Yelena's shoulder. After emitting a pathetic moan, Kate's sickly state becomes evident. Yelena is all too familiar with this behavior, as Kate becomes worse than their children when she's under the weather.
Slipping out from under her wife's weight, Yelena turns to get a good look at Kate, confirming her suspicions. Kate looks absolutely dreadful; she's sick.
"No. No. NO. Kate, no. I ask for very little. Just one thing. Family pictures are today. You can't be sick." Yelena exclaims, a gasp escaping her lips as a thought strikes her. "Katherine... you better not have gotten them sick..."
"Why me?! What if they got ME sick?! They're the walking germ bombs!"
"This was the first week all year that one or both of them didn't have some nasty thing going on. They were FINE."
“Nu-uh. Not my fault."
Kate whines, attempting to lean on Yelena once more, but Yelena retreats.
"Contagious! You're contagious." Yelena insists as Kate whimpers pitifully again. "You're not giving me whatever you have."
"Baby..."
"I should've known. I knew you were warmer than usual last night."
"I feel yucky. I don't like it."
"Go back to bed, please. I need you to sleep this off in..." Yelena turns to the microwave clock. "...the next six hours. We're not canceling the photographer."
"Babyyyyyy..."
"No 'baby.' Don't 'baby' me. Just do what I tell you. Go. Go, go. I'll check on them, then bring you something warm to drink."
Kate grumbles once more, hanging her head back while grimacing. Yelena rolls her eyes and pushes her wife to the bedroom as she heads in that direction too.
"Can I get kisses?" Kate dramatically pouts her lips.
"Absolutely not. What part of 'I don't want to get sick' is not clear enough?"
Reaching the hallway's turning point, where their paths diverge, Yelena urges Kate toward their bedroom.
"To bed, please. I need you up and ready to leave by 2 PM. We need these photos done today if we want to have them in time for Christmas Cards.  It's their last available slot this month, so I don't want to hear any excuses later." Yelena nudges Kate in the direction of their bedroom. "Bed. Now, please."
Kate huffs histrionically and shuffles down the hallway, disappearing into the room. Exhaling, Yelena turns on her heels and makes her way to two of the bedrooms located at the opposite end of the hall.
Yelena enters the main bedroom, cradling four-and-a-half-year-old Alexia in one arm and one-year-old Maks in the other. The children cling to her, visibly miserable.
"Both of them have a fever. Both." Yelena announces, placing them gently on the bed, where they immediately crawl over to Kate and snuggle up. "You're all quarantined now. We're containing this."
Kate weakly pats the empty space on the bed and mumbles something unintelligible.
"No way. I'm not exposing myself to your mysterious virus breath." Yelena retorts.
"Cuddles." Kate requests with puppy eyes and a pathetic tone.
"You have two perfect cuddle pals right there. I'll make him a bottle and you two some food." Yelena replies, turning to leave the room. As she heads towards the door, Kate leans in and whispers into Alexia's ear.
"Ask mommy for some cuddles."
"Momma, cuddles. Momma." Alexia repeats.
Yelena rolls her eyes, but a smile creeps onto her face as she turns back to face the bed, where three pitiful, snotty faces stare back at her.
"Don't make them do your dirty work." Yelena warns in jest.
"Is giving me love 'dirty work' now?"
"Katherine, you're sick. All of you are."
"EXACTLY why I need my wife to cuddle me. I'm here...languishing."
"Are you?"
Kate leans into Alexia’s ear again and whispers.
"Tell her I'm dying."
"Mommy's dying.”
Yelena's smile widens.
"Stop using them as pawns!"
"You tell her too. Tell her we're dying." Kate whispers into Maks’ ear, eliciting incoherent babbling from the baby. "You heard the man. The situation is DIRE."
"I'm going to make food now." Yelena declares, attempting to walk away.
"Cuddles or death. Are you really willing to risk it?"
"Momma." Maks whimpers.
When Yelena turns, she finds that Kate has recruited the little ones into her shenanigans, and now the trio is reaching out to her with grabby hands, beckoning her to join them in bed. Shaking her head, Yelena groans and steps closer to the bed.
"You're a pain in my butt...and when I'm sick too, there will be no one left to take care of you needy monsters." Yelena grumbles, sliding under the sheets and opening her arms. Kate quickly readjusts the kids, shifting them along with her as she snuggles into Yelena's embrace.
"Hmmmm...cuddles." Kate murmurs, and Yelena can't help but chuckle.
"You're a giant baby, Kate Bishop." Yelena teases, running her hand in soothing circles around Kate's back and tenderly kissing the top of her head.
"Uhum." Kate mumbles against Yelena's chest while their children doze off again, resting atop Kate.
The room falls into peaceful silence for a long moment until...
"ACHOO!"
Yelena sneezes, feeling the congestion suddenly weigh heavy on her chest. Kate smiles faintly against her skin.
"I like it when we do things as a family." Kate whispers.
"I hate you so much." Yelena playfully responds.
