I think as a fandom we all know how incredibly cringe shadowhunters is

half bc of the dilouge but half bc of most of the plotlines

im currently rewatching the show and OH MY GLOB 💀

the fucking "twist" of valentine telling clary and jace they're siblings IS SOOOOO FUCKING UNCOMFORTABLE TO WATCH it was hard to read too, I had to put the book down multiple times.

like yeah ok its a "plot twist" and pointing the mc's in the wrong way but DAMMM IT MAKES ME WAY TOO UNCOMFORTABLE LIKE YOU COULDNT DO ANYTHING ELSE?!

there's too much implied incest.

Rewatching Shadowhunters and I am yet again truly amazed at how much they managed to change/fuck up, and incredibly surprised everytime they got something right

Like they manage to include the detail about the role of suggenes at shadowhunter weddings, but just a couple minutes later completely fuck up the fact that white is the shadowhunter colour of mourning and funerals by putting Alec in a white suit instead of gold (tho granted they did have the rest of the wedding party have gold as part of their outfits, tho Lydia still had a mostly white dress which is just weird).

And how they include Chairman Meow and Church as Magnus's cats, but utterly fuck up how seraph blades and runes work

Also yay they gave Lydia a last name we recognise, but then she says Henry Branwell is her ancestor which makes no sense since his kids carried on the Fairchild name, all the way down to Jocelyn and Clary

And what exactly was the point in saying Ragnor Fell lived in a cottage outside London instead of Idris? It was Malcolm that had a hidden cottage near London, and the scene where they went to Ragnors house could easily have been Idris, there was nothing visually to say it was in England vs Idris. It was a pointless change that did nothing for the story (unlike major changes they made which obviously contributed to the new story they wanted to tell like Lydia and the whole wedding thing)

I'm definitely not gonna get started on the whole way they went about Magnus and Alec's relationship starting. I'll love Malec in any shape or form, but it just makes no sense for Magnus to interrupt a wedding of someone he barely knows and has never even kissed, and for Alec to go kiss him for the first time in front of everyone. But I think that's mainly coz one of the Malec scenes I was most excited for in the books was when Clary creates the fearless rune and Alec tests it out and almost outs himself to his parents coz of it.

But yeah, sometimes the things they got right surprise me so much coz of all the things they got so so wrong 😅

you don’t know that they dated in secret for months

you dont know alec’s wardrobe is absolutely hopeless and he only wears years old worn out sweaters with holes in the cuffs and magnus loves it

you dont know that sometimes magnus wears his worn out sweaters

you dont know that they didnt get married for years until alec became consul and they could get married in warlock blue and shadowhunter gold under his new law

you dont know they have two kids, before they ever married

you dont know their first son is named after alec’s brother max, who actually died during the war

you dont know that max’s skin is blue, and his eyes are just a shade darker than alec’s

you dont know that alec loved one man so much he changed the world for him
