Thoughts I had while reading TCF chapter 13

Cale: gets chills because Ron drinks the lemon tea without complaining

Also Cale: ignores that he does the same thing.

Looking at the two butlers around Cale is entertaining because you have Hans who is just constantly confused about what’s going on, and then you have Ron who is just amused by everything and notices the things Cale doesn’t. also Choi Han being polite because Cale’s there is amusing because chances are Cale wouldn’t care if he wasn’t.

Choi Han has this subtle sassiness to him, especially early on that I don’t think was fully intended because when he says ‘I will not fight against someone who is trying to cut someone else with a cooking knife,’ I don’t think he means to be sassy or anything (I don’t think I mean sassy but can’t figure out what i mean, maybe shady in the way of throwing shade, idk), like, that’s genuinely what’s happening but I hear it in such like a shady tone in my head. Again, I don’t think this was intended, I think Choi Han is a very genuine, earnest person, who means what he says in the way he says it, but my brain chooses to hear it as shady.

Ok yes Choi Han choosing to be someone who protects people, purely because Cale said he could do it is really cute and precious. And the “even” before I makes it just the slightest bit sad, but also Cale manages to cause confusion even when he’s not present, and I think that the impact Cale has on these characters, even when he’s not there to say or do anything, is a wonderful way to show how important he is to them.

Also, yes, I do find Choi Han saying this and having this revelation and Beacrox being like wth? What rubbish are you spewing? I just wanna fight funny. Because my humour is broken and I find a lot of things funny when they aren’t.

I feel like Ron just thinks everything his son and Cale does is cute and precious, and he’s right.

Ok but I love the idea of Ron, glaring at Choi Han accidentally while lost in thought, meanwhile Cale is just sat there with a small smile, but the tiny Cale living in his head is secretly clapping very quietly and letting out a cute little yay.

Yes, Cale, you’re right, the novel shouldn’t dictate your life, which is a good thing because you’ve already changed so much, even if you don’t realise it yet.

Once again, Cale proves he’s kinder than he allows himself to believe, because his second priority, after survival, is that everyone in their territory lives peacefully, and actually, considering how often he puts his life on the line, I’m pretty sure that’s actually his first priority.

I’m sorry but Cale saying sweet teas are the best after purposefully giving Ron the lemon tea, thus rubbing his face in it while also subtly guilting him, is such little shit behaviour.

Billos: lowkey disappointed he won’t see Cale until the capital

Cale: no, I’m going to be here everyday until I leave, and meet you at the capital

Billos: significantly happier than before

Cale: and I’m going to give you money and opportunities for profit

Billos: super shocked and super happy

Ron, stood to the side watching, suspiciously sharpening a knife: I thought he said they weren’t close

Billos gets a message at 3 in the morning that someone is in the tea shop and goes to investigate, only to see Cale helping himself to some tea. His only explanation is a shrug and “you said it was open any time.” Billos ends up giving him a key to get in so he stops tripping whatever alarm or security he has. Cut to bonding sessions when Billos gets there in the morning before it officially opens. It’s rarely just Cale, usually it’s the kids, sometimes one of the others joins, one time he arrives to the entire Cale fam just casually sat, drinking tea. It ends up becoming their hangout spot on the rare occasions they get a month or two of not saving someone or somewhere. Just cute, fluffy moments in the tea shop

Oh Ron I thought being in denial was Cale’s thing. It’s ok, you can admit you care about your puppy young master, we won’t judge you.

Choi Han misunderstanding what Ron is talking about and being like I don’t want to like you. Oh Choi Han, you’re too good for this world.

I find it really funny that Cale couldn’t even get rid of the person who was planning to leave of his own accord. Like Ron was planning to leave, he did leave briefly, and Cale still couldn’t completely get rid of him. A dragon was dying, of old age, and Cale was like I think the fuck not, someone needs to raise my child when I can’t and not only found a way to keep him alive but also possibly made him age down so he was younger, he uno reversed death by old age. Cale, this is not how you reduce the number of people around you. Like, he thought he was done, and then Cale agreed to take care of his son while he was gone, cured what was killing him, and just didn’t care that he’d been an assassin.

Ron pretending not to care about Cale while Cale pretends not to care about Ron is actually clown behaviour.

Ron and Cale’s relationship is so precious to me, like you don’t understand.

Him thinking about the good things about Cale only to immediately go but he’s still trash is the same energy as KRS Cale asking about Ron’s injury and going but I don’t care it’s just annoying to look at. This is why KRS Cale and Ron have such a cute relationship. They’re actually more similar than either of them realise, and if they did realise it, they’d be horrified.

Cale: asking Choi Han who he’s going to protect

Choi Han’s thoughts: don’t tell him it’s him yet, you can’t

Choi Han: I’ll tell you when I’m stronger

Cale: nearly has a heart attack at the thought of him getting stronger

The only person Cale needs protection against at the minute is Choi Han, and himself of course.

Hans is such a breath of fresh air in this book. Every time he’s in a scene it makes me smile.

Ok so I’m not wrong for thinking some of the admiration in this scene is aimed at Cale right? Because they say the expression isn’t related to the kittens’ cuteness so that’s how I always took its, that the admiration is aimed at Cale, and possibly wants praise. Oh my God, he kind of reminds me of Ranpo from Bungou Stray Dogs, wants praise but when you do praise him just goes of course I’m (insert praise here).

Also, I’m pretty sure the reason Cale kind of stumbles over his answer is because he finds them cute but can’t admit that and also feels embarrassed for thinking it.

Still love Hans respecting the kittens more than Cale, I would too. Honestly I feel like the reason I love Hans so much is because I relate to him so much. I too am constantly confused, never truly know what’s going on and respect cats more than people.

Cale is so mean, ignoring the cats like that, not one pat. They should file an official complaint.

Ron thinking Cale isn’t aware the cats are beast people only for him to not only know that, but also know how he wants to use them.

Btw in case you hadn’t noticed this is also a highlights of the chapter thing only everything is a highlight because this story is a delight.

So, Ron planned to teach the Cat Tribe children, he also planned to leave, I’m pretty sure that takes more than a few days. Ron in denial again?

Ron planning to train the cat tribe children as a present is like you buying something for yourself only for your friend to mess around with it and then give it back to you, claiming it’s a present. Also he doesn’t question why these cat tribe siblings cam looking for Cale, just accepts that they did and moves on, doesn’t even think for a second that just maybe they’re already assassins. Who would be trying to assassinate Cale and why? Idk but the fact Ron didn’t even question it, suspicious possibly paranoid assassin Ron, is the strangest thing about this situation.

On and Hong are my favourite little sassy children, and On is usually the sole holder of the group’s collective brain cell.

Good job On and Hong, you refuse to become assassins

Them looking at Cale was actually a cry for help but you didn’t hear that from me

And the cry for help worked, kind of, maybe.

The kittens being cute instead of answering the question. After all, the answer should be obvious.

The difference between what they want to eat though. On wantin meat, protein, which provides more energy and is more filling while Hong wants cake which is sweeter and still gives energy but is less filling. It could be an age thing or preference, but it could also subtly show their personalities/dynamic with On being the more practical one of the two.

Cale continues to be one of the first people to believe in them by being one of the first to believe they can be useful/helpful.

That girly urge to drop everything and write a 50k Harry Potter fanfic about Draco running away from home post 4th year and being scared and all alone and somehow running into Sirius who sees a young boy fending for himself after realizing his family are not good people and seeing himself and thus taking him in and letting him stay at Grimmauld Place despite protests because “He’s my nephew, he may have made mistakes but he’s also 15 and doesn’t deserve to be on his own fuck off”

That urge to write about him being oh so awkward with Ron and Hermione but still forming a begrudging, tentative friendship but it isn’t until he goes on an errand with Hermione to the muggle world and finding out about muggle hair dye and deciding to dye his hair to distance himself from the Malfoy name that Hermione decides to help him and whilst dying his hair Draco just spills his guts and apologizes to her for everything and admits that he was an ass and that he doesn’t want to be that anymore and that’s when their friendship begins for real

And immediately after that Ron also softens a bit and they start getting along just a tiny bit more.

He and Hermione somehow become besties though neither will admit it, like, they’ll be up at 2am arguing over their potions textbooks and Ron is just like ‘oh god there’s two of them now’ before getting them to take breaks and eat and teasing both of them.

Draco truly looking up to Sirius, who is just proud of him for being able to see his past mistakes and they’re just… UGH

That urge to write about Harry finally making it to Grimmauld Place and thinking he must’ve hit his head when he sees Draco standing behind Hermione and Ron, leaning against the door with slightly washed out light blue hair and a soft sweater

Harry being so confused when Hermione and Ron both vouch for Draco. Harry nearly passing out when Draco apologizes to him before anything else can happen and he looks so good in those hand me down sweaters WHAT IS HAPPENING?!

Them going back to Hogwarts, Draco, Hermione and Ron together as prefects.

Draco wondering where to sit during the first day since he’s not sure if his friends will want him anymore just for Ron to call out ‘Oi Malfoy, where you going?’ When he’s resigned to eat outside

Him and Harry bonding in Potions class, mainly laughing at Snape’s reaction to see Draco’s newly dyed pink hair that Umbridge nearly expells him for

And before you know it the Golden Trio has become the Golden Quartet and Harry spends most of his time trying to figure out why his heart does backflips every time he sees Draco smile or laugh at lunch

Then Dumbledore’s Army starts and Draco is Harry’s right hand man, helping him with what lessons to give and working as a double agent since he still lives in the Slytherin dorm he helps with avoiding the Inquisitorial Squad and even gets new members from Slytherin.

The urge to write about Draco and Harry spending so much time together figuring out what to teach next and how to make the lessons easier and Draco being so soft with Harry and letting his guard down and Harry opening up about his anger and Draco nearly murdering Umbrige when he finds out about the ‘I mustn’t tell lies’ thing

Ron talking about Hermione, wondering if maybe she has a crush on someone and Draco just staring and going ‘Weasley… you’re an idiot’ (with love)

Draco and Hermione being so competitive but also always studying together and Draco trying to get Hermione to make a move on Ron because ‘It’s so obvious it’s painful! I could tell from two tables away how you two drool for each other!’ Because Harry is so adamant about not getting involved in that mess. Just- Draco and Hermione being besties and platonic soulmates

The urge to write Draco and Harry staying in the Room of Requirements after the Army leaves and just hanging out and Harry being so weirdly happy because Draco never expects him to be the ‘Chosen One’ or a Dark Arts master or even calm and rational, he just expects him to be… Harry… even if that means dealing with his swing moods every once in a while

Harry writing to Sirius about feeling oh so confused and not knowing what to do and Sirius just being so amused and trading glances with Remus like, ‘…this boy is so dumb’

All four spending Christmas together and Draco is totally not crying when he gets his own Weasley sweater what are you talking about? And the trio crushes him into a hug to tease/comfort him. And well if Ron and Hermione wind up under the mistletoe and/or locked in a closet and the twins hand Draco a few coins well whose to say that was anything but a coincidence?

Harry not being able to concentrate as a seeker cause Malfoy dyed his hair a violet that makes his cheekbones pop out and his eyes look so pretty and FUUUUCCCCKKKK

Umbridge cornering Draco and trying to get info out of him and threatening him and trying to make him think that there’s no way Harry forgave him and that he’s just using him but Draco doesn’t care because being used by Harry would be better than being manipulated by his family Draco begrudingly admitting what happened when the Trio can tell he’s upset and all of them nearly killing Umbridge and affirming that they’re friends against all odds and that they wouldn’t trade him for anything, Draco dying his hair red in honor of that conversation

After a particularly bad Occlumency lesson with Snape, Harry sneaks out and finds Draco at the lake and they just talk and maybe just maybe Harry can’t help but kiss him because he just wants one good thing and- AAAAAHHHH

Anyways… yeah… the girly urge jeje

Might do it someday who knows, go back to my roots as an HP fanfic writer

Cale Cooking!

So, this a canon I have always imagined. It’s mentioned in the TCF that Cale knows how to cook Korean food from his Kim Rok Soo days. But I imagine Cale to be an excellent cook because he always undermines himself.

It’s not always that Beacrox is ill but even he fell ill after the strenuous fighting season was over. The children wished to cook something for him and were creating a mess in the kitchen, so Cale decided to shoo them out and take over the cooking while Rosalyn and CH cleans the mess and Ron runs an errand in the village.

So, Cale decides to take matters into his own hands.

Cale: Enough! All children out of the kitchen, now.

Roan: Human NOOOOOO!

Hong: Yess we want to cook Beacrox Uncle!!!

On: We would really love to give him something homemade.

Cale sighs.

Cale: Okay I will cook, and you all will help when I tell you too.

Cale got to work, he thought that a quick soup with some fresh bread and some hot coco would be enough. So he got to work, he kneaded the bread out of the left-over flour. He asked Roan and Hong to slowly control the heat around the melting chocolate, Choi Han to cut the vegetables and meat, Rosalyn to pre heat the oven with magic and On to get run to the underground house and bring some spice they got from the east.

Over the course of the next 1 hour he collected all the food in enough quantities to fulfill the small town they house at here at the Black Castle. The loaves were baking, soup was simmering, the hot coco was being filled in glasses for everyone's easy access.

Eventually he prepared one plate with all the food and told the children to give it to Beacrox.

Roan: You are not coming with us Human?

Cale: No, I don’t want to get catch whatever bug he has.

He then turned and left the kitchen. But everyone knew that despite that rude response how carefully he has made each item.

When Ron tasted the food, he knew instantly it wasn’t someone who has cooked for the first time. But the food was so healing, the rich but light taste of soup, the airy and slightly sour bread and the subtly sweet hot coco, that he didn’t question it much. He never knew his tiger young master could cook so well.

But the fact brings him peace that when he is gone and someone forgets to feed his Young Master, he can cook for himself.

The Children enjoyed the food so much that they ran again and again to the kitchen to sneak multiple helpings even late after dinner was over. Choi Han was almost nostalgic for a second remembering the young, malnourished Kim Rok Soo.

Cale after years of eating just enough actually ate more than necessary for once, enjoying the taste of his own food after years and getting a little lost in olden days.

The Legend of Korra Fancast

This one was hard to make. Specially the Watertribe that is based manly on the Inuk people but it physical appearance also resemble a lot other native people, like the Maori and other Native American people.

This fancast is based on appearance, ethnicity and vibes.

Korra- Devery Jacobs and Sydney Park

Devery Jacobs is a native actress who stars in Reservation Dogs, a show I haven't watched but it is on my watchlist. She is the first pick for the role, because she is native american, despite being light skinned in comparison to Korra.

The second pick is Sydney Park, I read she is mixed but I choose her based on her appearance only. I haven't seen none of them acting, but in those pictures I could see Korra in both of them.

Asami Sato - Havana Rose Liu and Kelsey Chow

I've Watched Bottoms and in the moment I saw Havana Rose Liu on screen I thought "that's Asami Sato" and, I mean, just look at her. She is gorgeous, sophisticated, charismatic, she even has those beautiful green eyes. And importantly, the acting is there.

I feel the same with Kelsey Chow, especially after watching clips of her in Yellowstone. Sure, she ain't asian or asian American (I've read that she has some native american background) but still, I think she is a good second choice even being too old for the role cuz like Devery Jacobs, who is also in her 30's, they look younger than they really are.

Mako - JJ Jr Mackenyu / Ludi Lin

I haven't watched One Piece but one look at JJ Jr Mackenyu and I saw Mako.

Same with Ludi Lin, sure he is also too old for the role but he has that "cooliness" , that "bad boy" aura that Mako has especially in book 1.

Bolin - Niko Hiraga // Kai Bradbury

I only saw Niko Hiraga in Booksmart and haven't seen any work of Kai Bradbury but look at those eyes, such sympathetic eyes man.

Tenzin - Donnie Yen / Ke Huy Quan

Ip Man himself as Tenzin is a dream and one of the most common fancasting of the character but I think Ke Huy Quan would be The Tenzin, I mean, in Everything Everywhere all at once he shows an heart and an light that justs would fit Tenzin so well

Lin Beifong - Michelle Yeoh // Ming-Na Yen

The same with Michelle Yeoh, I mean just look at her and her works. Ming-Na Yen would also be an amazing choice for Lin, if see her in clips from agents of shield and damn she seems so good in there.

Suyin Beifong - Maggie Q / Lucy Liu

Maggie Q is a baddie with such kind eyes and mother vibe (yes, I loved Nikita) that fits so well with Su. Lucy Liu brings the same as Maggie Q but with some swagger that would be fun to watch.

Amon - Meegwun Fairbrother / Adam Beach

No, Meegwun is not a white man but it is white passing just as Amon. I haven't see any of them acting, I'm going just by looks here. Adam would be the choice if they choose to make Amon look more like a Watertribe man.

Tarrlok - Tatanka Means // Matariki Whatarau

Same with Amon fancasting, Mataraki ain't native american but he is Maori(according to google) and yes, he is too young for the character and that's also why Tatanka is my first choice

Zaheer - Henry Rollins / Ron Yuan

Before y'all jump on me because I pick a white guy has first choice to play Zaheer, let's remember that he has a view of the Air Nomad culture and mentality that he considers superior even in comparison with the only Airbender master at the time, he also is a hypocrite since he let his friends destroy a millennial temple symbol and museum of the culture he said it's inspired him. This is the type of arrogance and disrespect that typically comes from a white man c'mon

I didn't know any of Ron Yuan work but just by his appearance I think he would be a good choice for Zaheer

Kuvira - Sonoya Mizuno / Natasha Liu Bourdizzo

Sonoya and Natasha , can't choose who I like best for the character, both of them has that damn penetrating powerful gaze.

Kim Rok Soo is known to attract cats and dragons.

So, I consider that Cale could be someone who is loved by canids, coming to have an extensive pack in his possession (He just wants to pamper his adorable and furry friends).

The members of the pack would not hesitate to destroy anyone who dared to hurt their beloved "owner".

Ron would observe with mild amusement Choi Han's rivalry with the canines, especially when it comes to getting the redhead's attention or approval.

When he smiles a pair of fangs stick out, giving him a cute but dangerous look. Due to this and due to some misunderstanding from the past, Ron ends up calling him "cub" (The man believed that Countess Jour and the young master were descendants of a tribe of foxes).

He is usually calm and collected, however, he sometimes lets his emotions get the best of him, especially in dangerous or stressful situations. Regardless, he intends to retain some self-control in regards to his energetic and adventurous side (Everyone he knows has witnessed him pass out anywhere from exhaustion, snarl at his enemies, or perform unavoidable actions, solidifying the belief that he's the same as a puppy).

I need your opinion, do you think Ron knew that Cale was no longer the same person?

I was stalking the fandom (as usual) and I saw a comment, by who I assume to be a new reader, wondering how Ron would react finding out Cale was actually KRS, that the child he watched grow wasn't actually the man he believes and it made me think a bit.

When I read tcf the first time, one of the things I was most curious about was all the odd looks Cale got in the first few chapters, and my biggest question was, surely a very sharp and experienced assassin who knew the know-hows of blending into different crowds would have immediately noticed that "Young master" was no longer the same person.

I'm sure you caught this too when reading, but there were many moments when Ron's expression turned odd after Cale did or said something.

Ron the whole first chapter:

It starts by something he dismisses, such as Cale waking up immediately after Ron calls out to him, on the very first attempt. But as the chapter progresses, Ron gets more and more intrigued.

He notices how Cale says thanks after he receives water and when servants dress him. Along with his other odd actions, asking the date, repeating his own name, asking to go to the study, not breaking things etc.

And then finally, Ron gives him the ultimate test, the lemon tea. I think this was his way of confirming that Cale had changed. It proved to me Ron was definitely onto something.

Now this is where I need your opinion. From my interpretation of Ron's character, yes he "loved" ogCale or held at least a bit of affection for him. Let me pull up some receipts:

Although Ron treated him like his grandson he did not think Cale had a soft spot for him nor that he treated him like a person and never really took much interest in him aside from his duties.

And while I was doing a deep-dive I went on the wiki and saw this.

So Ron saw ogCale, his situation and therefore pitied him, yet he thought of him as a helpless impertinent puppy, which is why he did not have much issue with following Beacrox who wished to leave with Choi Han in BOAH. But only after Cale changed is when he begin to be interested.

Now the question is, was the lemon tea experiment he did, just to test whether Cale had become aware of Ron's true identity, or was it to confirm Cale was a changed person entirely???

Personally I think it was both, and that Ron was aware from the very beginning. However this is where I am conflicted, because the idea of Ron watching that small boy become so big and smart is so satisfying to me, because the author wanted to paint this as a "cale finally stopped pretending to be a dumb oblivious trash and started to take matters into his hand" like it was all a plan cale had to hide his powers and get stronger in secret while acting unsuspecting. This is what the public believes and it sounds very cool but... hmm I wish we got a chapter focusing more on Ron's feelings.

Like I am aware he loves Cale very much and especially after getting the new arm he started to feel a sense of loyalty for Cale he didn't have before but the fact that he was one of the few people og Cale was very close with since he was very young, the fact that a whole new person was in the body is kind of not addressed in its full concept, this transition from no interest to loyalty was also a transition from og cale to krs cale so I wish we got more on it.

Cale making eye contact with Sui Khan and Ron while talking with Heavenly Demon.

Sui Khan: *Clicks his tongue*

Cale: *Ignores*

Ron: *Smiles softly* Young master, would you like some tea?

Cale: *Panics and accidentally answers* Uh, uh-

A few minutes later, both Cale and HD have the famous tea in their hand.

HD: *Tastes the tea and hesitates* Hmm.

Ron: It is the tea that young master-nim enjoys the most.

HD: I see. *Nods and stares blankly at Cale* Your taste is unique.

Cale: !!!

Cale: *Has too much to say to refute but keeps his mouth shut* ...

Hmm.. this idea is from @keeperofhounds

They sent me this from some time ago and I just got time to actually think it over and wrap my head around it

So, basically, the idea is..

Roksu reincarnated into Cale's supposed dead older brother who was fated to be stillborn

Their age gap is 7 years

If we follow the canon timeline, Jour died when Cale 8 years old

But here, she died when Roksu was 8 and Cale was 1

Jour still split her ancient power into two

The first one, she gave it to Cale

While the second one, she hide it in her diary for Roksu to take later

She somehow know about Roksu and his fate, still loves him all the same

The massacre still happen because Jour leave a false trail to Harris village

Because she know that it needs to happen

After her death, Roksu basically raise Cale because Deruth, being the coward he is, can't bring himself to even look at Cale because he remind him of his deceased wife

In this, Cale is the only red head in the family because Roksu inherited Deruth's hair color

At first, it was difficult for Roksu because he also see a glimpse of their mother in Cale

But seeing the innocence in him and the smile that seems to warm his heart, Roksu know that he will do anything for his baby brother

Ah! Roksu doesn't have his memories as Kim Rok Soo but he will remember them when he turn 18

I just want the timelime to match with LCF

Cale grow up as a happy, good, and kind kid

He might be shy around other people and only keep close those he is comfortable and care about

He is a bit naive because Roksu quite protective and paranoid toward him

Cale's relationship with Deruth is a bit strained because he is absent in his early years and when he brought in Violan and Basen, Roksu doesn't really let him away from him because he is warry

He doesn't hate them per se, it's just that they were new people, strangers, in his house that might harm his brother so he keep their distant from them

Roksu also distant with his father because he is dissapointed with how he did things and the way he doesn't even look at Cale properly, he even flinch, and it's make Roksu upset so he has been giving him cold shoulders until he realize his mistakes

And since Roksu busy taking care of Cale, he doesn't really have time to 'bond' with Basen nor Lily

And since Cale has half of the ancient power, he has been seeing people's ring since he couldn't understand anything

Roksu always know that Cale can see something, but he never found out what until Cale learn to speak more fluently

He didn't really understand what he mean by 'ring' around people at first

But when Cale break dowm after his nanny died, he told Roksu how the 'ring' was starting fade before

From there, Roksu conclude that the 'ring' is like a lifespan of people and his only conclusion is it's an Ancient Power

He know a bit of Ancient Power but doesn't really care about it before, but finding out that Cale might possess one made him research on Ancient Power to make sure it will not bring harm to Cale

He made Cale promise that he will not tell anyone about the 'rings' he saw and it's their secret

Oh!! Ron always there with them

Hmm.. I think Cale will pick some of Ron's habits like walk silently or good at sneaking or something

And! Cale is also close with Vic-hyung it make Roksu-hyung jealous 🥺

The three of them basically grow up close like siblings!!

When he first got his memories as KRS, the first thing he thought of is Cale's safety

He know that Cale doesn't grow up as a trashy young master, beside he still a kid, but he never know

So he become overbearing during that time until he is sure that Cale will be fine and safe

The first time Cale see Choi Han, he told Roksu that he has a pretty 'ring'

Roksu think it may be because he is not from here

During the events in LCF, Roksu bring Cale almost everywhere at the beginning but started to keep him in Rock Villa when thing become more dangerous

There were times when Cale sulk because Roksu keep going somewhere and leave him behind which lead to some wholesome brotherly love

Ah, I can imagine how scared Cale when Roksu hurt badly and how he refuse to leave his side and have him out of his sight

He got traumatized so bad he started to cry when he can't find his hyung

Idk why but I'm thinking about making Cale do something for GoD because Roksu is in dire situation and it make him injured or in extreme pain (temporarly because GoD protecting him and will make sure he is safe and fine after)

He agreed willingly because it's for his hyung but Roksu is furious with GoD for involving his baby brother

Thoughts I had while reading TCF/LCF chapter 15

Oh the hunting rabbits. Once again Ron is being a little shit and he even tricked poor Choi Han into helping him.

Ron may not have caught the rabbits but I imagine it was still his doing

On, Hong and Hans continue to be precious and adorable. Hans tries to take such good care of him. Love that he took the time to prepare jerky for them. He’s so sweet. I said it before I’ll say it again. Another day, another reason to love Hans

And Hans is right. Their sassiness is cute. Cute and terrifying. This novel does that type of thing better than most

The image I have in my head of Choi Han just peacefully sat eating his soup next to Cale and the kittens as all the other knights keep just glancing at him in uncertainty and Cale internally curses him for catching rabbits of all things, while Hans tries to get the cats to pay attention to him. I love it. It’s times like this I wish I could actually draw.

Choi Han asserting dominance. Also the start of Choi Han’s weird well I didn’t manage to kill them but I did manage to cut off a limb and permanently maimed them thing that happens a couple times that I remember. These bandits then Redika.

And the vice captain learns a valuable lesson luckily before he pisses off Choi Han too much

That must be humiliating for the bandits, having to admit they lost to 5 knights even if one of them was really strong. All their bandit friends and rivals will make fun of them. They become the laughing stock of the bandit community. And all because they tried to steal from Cale Henituse while Choi Han was there. Big mistake

It’s so fun watching Choi Han terrify and intimidate people. And he seems so pleased with himself.

Choi Han also enjoys messing people but I guess that makes sense. I feel like to be an ally of Cale’s you have to be a little shit at least slightly. It’s a fairly big part of the job description.

I feel like everyone likes messing with Cale tbf. He’s fun to tease and mess with

Ok it’s time to discuss the whole conversation Choi Han and Cale have here. First of all him saying I’ve never seen so many bandits before instead of just saying yeas as an overall answer is really smart form the author. Lets the audience know that this probably isn’t the first battle he’s seen, just with bandits and in-world, he’s lying without lying, because why would the trash Cale have seen a battle? He hasn’t left the Henituse territory in what, 2 years? And no one calls him out on this so it must be true that he’s never encounters bandits or a battle. In this story wording is everything. Ok so I know Choi Han doesn’t really know much about Cale but the whole “this must be your first time facing death” thing is really interesting to me. It shows how, when Choi Han thinks of death, he thinks of battles and violence. Because even if Cale has never faced a battle before, illnesses still exist, right? Like, there are many ways you could die, and many near death experiences you could face that have nothing to do with violence. That’s without taking into account the KRS element. And this thinking does make sense. Most of the death he’s seen has been due to violence. I just think it’s interesting that, in Choi Han’s mind death is associated most with battles and violence. But the thing is I don’t think at this point Cale really thinks anyone at this point is going to kill him, but he is still nervous around them purely because they’re dangerous and main characters and he doesn’t want to get involved, or so he claims. I don’t think I actually explained that how I meant. Basically he’s scared of the possibilities of what they could do but realistically he knows these things won’t happen, at least subconsciously. Idk Cale, maybe he keeps talking to you because, and this might be a stretch and I’m really grasping at straws here, but maybe the reason he keeps talking to you is that he likes you. Or maybe that you keep answering him. Idk though.

Ok and this the whole I trust in my heart I’ll be okay. Now, he’s talking about the Indestructible Sheild, and we know that and it makes sense to us… but no one else knows he has the indstructible shield. So when he says he doesn’t need to know martial arts, points out the people around him as a reason why and then says that he trusts in his heart he’ll be okay, all they hear is I trust you as my guards to keep me safe. Of course that motivates them, you’ve seemingly just put your full trust in them to keep you safe not just because it’s their job and they’re supposed to, but because you, as a person, actually trust them to do it. And then you’re somehow shocked when they want to train more. They want to ensure that your trust isn’t misplaced. Cale, I know you know things they don’t, but this is why we’re careful with what we say. Because Choi Han isn’t a mind reader so for him all he knows is what he sees and here’s so for Choi Han, this is that conversation word for word, starting from:

Choi Han: Cale-nim, do you not study any martial arts?

Cale: no need

Choi Han: shouldn’t you at least have the strength to protect yourself.

Cale: I have plenty of ways already *looks at the people around him* you can see them too right? *smiles* *pats heart* I trust my heart. I will live.

And funnily enough that’s also what everyone else hears. They don’t know about the indestructible shield, so to them when he says about trust, he’s talking about them. He’s so clueless, so dumb, and somehow so good at motivating people. This may happen a few more times, me showing a conversation without Cale’s thoughts to show what everyone actually hears just because I feel like it proves some of my points better and explains it better than I could. It also gives you a better idea of which conversation I’m talking about. It won’t be constant or all the time but when talking about misunderstandings that could’ve been avoided if Cale just remembered people weren’t mind readers who knew what he meant, I’ll occasionally do this. As I said it probably won’t be often. But anyways, I know a huge part of Cale’s character is that he’s oblivious and causes misunderstandings but how does he not realise they’re obviously going to think he’s talking about them here? What does he plan for them to think?

This is why I can’t feel sorry for him when these misunderstandings happen. He actually brings it on himself. Honestly reading these conversations while taking out his thoughts really helps you understand what everyone who isn’t Cale sees and hears and really puts it into a new perspective where it’s easier to understand their reactions and the understandings, and shows how utterly avoidable these reactions and situations are. And it actually makes it more entertaining for when you read his surprise or confusion. Like it’s easy enough to understand anyway but when put like this it’s like yeah there’s not really another way they could’ve taken that with what they know

So honest question how many times do you think the characters in this novel have looked at Cale and thought he was being cute and it’s just never mentioned because Cale never noticed it? Like they’ve just looked at him and gone “aww!” I reckon for Ron it’s a daily occurrence he’ll never met. And anytime he sees money or is presented with good food and gets happy or excited. When he interacts with Raon or the cat siblings. When he says certain things or does certain things. Because Cale is kind of adorable in his own right and just doesn’t realise it, doesn’t realise how precious he is, and I feel like everyone lowkey platonically simps for him and I think that’s perfectly valid. Again they have weekly gossip sessions where they just gush and worry about him. Ooh they share photos they took when he wasn’t paying attention, not embarrassing ones, but just moments they thought he was being cute.

Wait so the lemonade is specifically prepared by Ron, right? And the lemon tea by Beacrox? I love that the implication here is that Ron brought lemons along for the sole purpose of teasing Cale. Like that’s hilarious. God I love Ron and the lemon torture sm.

Yes, Choi Han motivated Hilsman. I’m not gonna say he didn’t but once again Cale doesn’t realise he’s also motivated him, and he’d probably be horrified if he knew. But Choi Han does also motivate Hilsman and provides some sort of level Hilsman wants the knights to achieve. Choi Han teaches him not to underestimate and encourages him to get stronger just by being present, but Cale encourages them with words and boosts their morale. That’s what’s he’s best at raising morale, boosting confidence, anything that has to do with speaking really. He somehow knows even without realising it what people need to hear to motivate them. The best way to put it is Choi Han is physical motivation and Cale is mental/emotional motivation, if you know what I mean. I’m bad at explaining things but hopefully you get my point.

My god they’re so dumb. The cave is right behind the villa so, logically, something goe wrong, those living in the villa will be killed first. Dumb, arrogant, careless. There are so many ways Venion and the Marquis are so dumb. The worlds where Taylor dies and doesn’t take over this family? I have no hope for them. Maybe one of his siblings is better? Idk, we don’t really know much about the other Stans but I can’t imagine they’d be much better if they have this Marquis as their father.

Honestly Venion is so pathetic. I can’t wait to see him get destroyed again. I remember the torture being satisfying to read the first time. I can’t imagine that will change

I’m sorry I know this probably isn’t the intent but Hans walked over with Choi Han when Cale was upset/angry and my brain just went aww he brought the emotional support Choi Han and I can’t unthink it. Choi Han is so emotional support and I love that. like I know that’s not really what/how it happened but idk I like the idea of, whenever Cale is upset or angry, someone just going to get Choi Han. The kids are already there obviously.

Cale: I just want to get Choi Han away from me

Also Cale, whenever Choi Han goes literally anywhere away from him: stay safe, and take this medicine, and hurry back and - *continues to act like a concerned parent and fuss about Choi Han*

Choi Han, who lost one family and has quickly gained another: I’ll never let anything happen to you and I love you and I’ll never leave you for too long and- *continues to platonically simp for Cale and is just so happy because he has somewhere to return to and a family and all the things he thought he’d lost forever*

Choi Han calling Cale sir just feels so weird to me. Like Cale-nim fine, but sir? Idk it doesn’t feel right.

Ah yes, Cale’s bad feelings. You’ve gotta love them.

Cale really can’t catch a break, can he? Choi Han leaves his side for two seconds and this BS happens. Well, guess that settles it, Choi Han can never leave Cale again. Every time he does, things like this (Marquis Stan’s carriage) happen. Or he brings back more people than he left with, and that’s clearly Cale’s thing, it can’t be both of their thing.

Once again, Cale gets involved when he doesn’t really have to. If Choi Han punches Marquis Stan I think that would be deserved. Probably for the best he didn’t though. That would not end well for Choi Han as funny and deserved as it would be.

I mean chances are, before he got out of the carriage, they didn’t really know Choi Han was with him? I’d say it’s a 50/50 chance they knew before then, but also it seems like these people are just like that, and would’ve reacted the same if Choi Han wasn’t with Cale, only maybe even worse.

I can count on one hand when snape has lost his cool in canon . in poa when harry saved sirius , in OOTP when sirius vs snape , when harry saw his memories . In hbp when harry called him a coward . And that's about it . While majority of time he is composed , confident and insults people with coolness and sass . The list is too long . Like he has coolly sassed Bellatrix , peter , sirius , harry , Ron , hermione , james , lockhart etc .

I love and deeply appreciate your talent but imo snape's behaviour is reversed in TLE , he is just too angry here to think coherently let alone insult or attempt at sarcasm .

I mean Remus has more sarcasm and wit than he has in canon and i have no complain there as i am a sucker for wity banter and humor , but it feels like injustice to Snape's personality to me .

I’m sorry you feel that way! I emphatically (and amicably) disagree.

I think for me it comes down to the fact that I am not trying to replicate the characters exactly as they were in the books. TLE is a prequel, and thus for all the characters — but especially Snape because he actually survives — this is a story of becoming. They’re not meant to be perfectly reflected versions of who they were in the '90s, but rather versions of themselves that could feasibly grow into the characters we see in canon.

The Snape in canon is a 35ish year old man who has survived a war and had years and years to master his emotions and become a top-notch spy who, as you say, sasses the likes of Bellatrix, not to mention lies to Voldemort's face. The Snape I’m writing in TLE is a 17-year-old boy who has done none of that yet but is raw and bitter and wrathful enough to be convinced joining a fascist hate group is a really swell idea.

To me, the moments you point out when Snape loses his cool in canon are the entire point of his characterization, not an occasional aberration, and these scenes were crucial to me when building his character. Rage is crucial to his character. It’s notable, I think, that almost all of these moments are related to the Marauders/Lily in some way. It’s the moment the mask slips and the wounded teenager comes out.

A few examples, just for fun (emphasis mine).

(This got a little long, but I was distracting myself during some severe weather that was stressing me, so I hope you’ll take this in the spirit of fun discussion, and not anything else. 🙂)

From POA, after Sirius escapes:

“THEY HELPED HIM ESCAPE, I KNOW IT!” Snape howled, pointing at Harry and Hermione. His face was twisted; spit was flying from his mouth. “Calm down, man!” Fudge barked. “You’re talking nonsense!” “YOU DON’T KNOW POTTER!” shrieked Snape. “HE DID IT, I KNOW HE DID IT—!”

“Fellow seems quite unbalanced,” said Fudge, staring after him. “I’d watch out for him if I were you, Dumbledore.” “Oh, he’s not unbalanced,” said Dumbledore quietly. “He’s just suffered a severe disappointment.”

From OOTP after Harry sees his worst memory:

“So,” said Snape, gripping Harry’s arm so tightly Harry’s hand was starting to feel numb. “So…been enjoying yourself, Potter?” “N-no…” said Harry, trying to free his arm. It was scary: Snape’s lips were shaking, his face was white, his teeth were bared. “Amusing man, your father, wasn’t he?” Said Snape, shaking Harry so hard that his glasses slipped down his nose. “I—didn’t—“ Snape threw Harry from him with all his might. Harry fell hard on to the dungeon floor.

From Half-Blood Prince, after Harry calls him a coward:

“DON’T—” screamed Snape, and his face was suddenly demented, inhuman, as though he was in as much pain as the yelping, howling dog stuck in the burning house behind them— “CALL ME COWARD!”

These are all such extreme reactions that, rare as they might be, they definitely suggest an undercurrent of deep rage and, I might add, a pattern of losing control when provoked with certain memories.

And then, of course, there are the flashbacks in which we actually DO get glimpses of young Snape:

“Tuney!” said Lily, surprise and welcome in her voice, but Snape had jumped to his feet. “Who’s spying now?” he shouted. What d’you want?”

(Interesting, I think, that his first instinct is to shout. Petunia hasn't said anything yet.)

There was a crack: A branch over Petunia’s head had fallen. Lily screamed: The branch caught Petunia on the shoulder, and she staggered backward and burst into tears. “Tuney!” But Petunia was running away. Lily rounded on Snape. “Did you make that happen?” “No.” He looked both defiant and scared. “You did!” She was backing away from him. “You did! You hurt her!” “No — no I didn’t!” But the lie did not convince Lily: After one last burning look, she ran from the little thicket, off after her sister, and Snape looked miserable and confused…

Snape’s whole face contorted and he spluttered, “Saved? Saved? You think he was playing the hero? He was saving his neck and his friends’ too! You’re not going to — I won’t let you —“ “Let me? Let me?” Lily’s bright green eyes were slits. Snape backtracked at once. “I didn’t mean — I just won’t want to see you made a fool of — He fancies you, James Potter fancies you!” The words seemed wrenched from him against his will. “And he’s not…everyone thinks…big Quidditch hero—“ Snape’s bitterness and dislike were rendering him incoherent, and Lily’s eyebrows were traveling farther and farther up her forehead.

He opened his mouth, but closed it without speaking. “I can’t pretend anymore. You’ve chosen your way, I’ve chosen mine.” “No—listen, I didn’t mean—“ “—to call me Mudblood? But you call everyone of my birth Mudblood, Severus. Why should I be any different?” He struggled on the verge of speech, but with a contemptuous look she turned and climbed back through the portrait hole…

This to me does not read as a composed, confident boy. This is (in my opinion) an extremely angry, troubled boy who is buffeted around by his emotions, who hasn’t yet learned to articulate them fully, let alone control them. Learning to conquer these emotions and be the cool, calm, and collected double-agent-man we see in canon is a big part of his journey, but it's certainly not something he's mastered yet at 17.

.......But, at the end of the day, this is just a fanfic and everyone has different interpretations of these characters. Which is fine and fun! TLE Snape has always been somewhat polarizing, but I'm pretty set in my interpretation of him. I'm looking forward to exploring more of his journey as he grows into book Snape. He's just not there yet. :)

Trash of the Count's Family: Why Him? Why Not Me?

Summary: In which OG novel Choi Han is jealous of a different timeline's Choi Han's life. Especially of his family and benefactor, Cale Henituse.

Warnings: Some spoilers for the novel (beyond the current point in the manhwa) and some angst as if the novel didn't give me enough

Choi Han is no hero.

Unlike the manhwas and novels out there, he was just a normal person.

Not a returnee or a genius or a reincarnator or a transmigrator.

But here he is, in a world full of unknown.

It's dark, scary, and lonely.

So when he finally finds people after so long, he rejoiced and latched onto that hope.

Only for it to be destroyed so quickly, and brutally.

So he sought revenge.

He fought for justice.

But the organization, no, the White Star was tougher and smarter than he expected.

He was outclassed in everything, magic, swordsmanship, and power.

Choi Han was simply not strong enough to protect his family from the leader of the secret organization. The leader that killed his family and possibly millions of other innocents as well.

He failed.

How he wished he could just go back in time so he could properly prepare against such a disaster known as the White Star.

But everything was too late.

(This was not a manhwa or a novel)

Everyone he loved has died.

His home was burned to the ground.

Even the crown prince, Alberu Crossman, was defeated and forced to submission.

In such a desperate and perilous situation, what should he, the hero of the Roan Kingdom do?

Pursue.

Get revenge.

When he does, the world is on fire.

It's a bloody mess.

It infuriates him.

He'd gotten so strong for what?

Then, he hears the God of Death, that infuriating bastard. Telling him of lies and of fairy tales that simply don't exist.

The God of Death pitied him.

What is a pity in this ruined world?

But then the hero sees.

He sees Rosalyn.

He sees Lock.

He sees Ron and Beacrox Molan.

He sees Alberu Crossman.

And he sees himself.

He sees himself, smiling.

Smiling at a redhead that Choi Han had long gotten rid of.

Cale Henituse.

Why?

His mind was filled with questions, before emotions.

Grief, regret, envy, jealousy, and fury.

Why?

Why him?

Fury overtook him.

He stepped out of the portal and grabbed Cale Henituse by his neck.

"Choi Han?! What are you- there are two Choi Hans?!"

The hero sees people he never seen before.

"Human!"

He sees dragons.

"Young Master Cale!"

He sees dark elves and elves.

"Cale!"

He sees believers of the Sun God and a necromancer.

He sees the Whale Tribe and the Tiger Tribe.

"Let go of Cale-nim." Through his anger, the hero saw himself of this timeline. He saw a different sword pointed at him.

The hero, Choi Han, gritted his teeth and then roared in anguish and self-pity.

"In another timeline, you are happy. And that person who made you happy, is a person named Cale Henituse."

"Cale Henituse! Why-"

"Let go, you bastard." The redhead unexpectedly bit back.

Dragon Fear? No, it was different.

Nonetheless, the hero has been pushed aside.

Ironically, the hero stood before himself of this timeline, someone who has not covered himself from head to toe with the blood of his allies, someone who has not dug his own despair, and someone who has not stained the world with his rage.

Oh God of Death, is this a punishment? The hero thought with the last bits of his rationality, which was stored deeply within him.

Where he has to see another world full of friendship and happiness he cannot get?

"Choi Han." He looked at Cale Henituse with a conflicted expression on his face. He growled back but the other didn't flinch at all.

"Why him? I lost everything. So why? Why does he!" The hero pointed his sword at himself of another timeline, the one who gets to be happy, who gets to have everything he doesn't have.

"Why does he gets to be happy?"

When the other didn't say anything, the hero grabbed Cale by the collar. For some reason, this Cale Henituse was not afraid, in fact, he raised a hand to stop the others.

Even so, the hero wasn't grateful for such a gesture.

"Why didn't you exist in my life? Why were you so useless in my life!?" For some unknown reason, his cheeks were wet.

A rough hand pulled them apart.

"Don't touch Cale-nim."

It's unfair.

"Choi Han." Cale Henituse stopped the Choi Han from this timeline from interfering. Instead, Cale simply looked at him with a conflicted expression.

If he had Cale Henituse in his timeline, would his allies live?

Would he be happy too?

"Why him? Why not me?"

Then, the God of Death whispered in his ear.

And the hero could only see his tears fall, as he too, collapsed to the floor. He feels himself growing tired, senseless, and lifeless as his vision slowly fades.

"Choi Han!"

When the last thing the hero saw was vibrant red hair, the hero Choi Han could only smile bitterly.

He grabbed Cale Henituse's hand tightly and watched the other yell his name with desperation.

How nice would it be to be in this world and be by his side?

How nice would it be if he was in this timeline?

How nice would it be to be happy?

Once again, the hero curses and wishes for the first time in a long time.

Let me be him, let me be happy by his side.

But he can't.

Because he's not the Choi Han from this timeline.

He's nothing more than a foreigner, an intruder, with an useless title of a hero on his head.

A fallen hero doesn't deserve happiness.

And the hero, Choi Han, falls.

It's... It's a game called how many parental figures can I give Cale before it's too much

Please .. og!Cale and Ron ,, Cale probably trailed after Beacrox when he was younger... Eyes sparkling as he followed his hyung around...

And then Ron is probably baby Cale's third most sought out person (1. Mom, 2. Beacrox, 3. Ron) ???? Like even more after his mom passes away ... He probably becomes the one person he turns to for comfort because his own father is too busy wallowing in despair to acknowledge his own son's pain as well.

Maybe Deruth has never been a parent to Cale ??? Like sure he was involved in the making, but .. he's never there.

Maybe Ron has to watch as the sweet boy he helped raise from birth grows distant... He sees all the hurt in Cale's eyes, but there's only so much he can do without overstepping the boundaries of being master and servant.

Maybe when Cale starts coming home black out drunk and cursing the world, he sits at the side of his puppy's bed for a little longer, carding his gloves hands through the red head's hair.

When Deruth brings home Violan and Basen... There's a period of time when Cale's anger towards the world turns into broken whimpers of "why doesn't he love me?" Or "am I not .. loveable? I was good for so long.."

It's when dusk falls and the night comes to blanket the world when Cale seems to seek out Ron the most. Sometimes Ron might find his young master sitting in the kitchen with a mug in his hands. (Beacrox is silently wiping silverware, always ready to listen if Cale ever wanted to speak).

(it's these two people that make Cale's revolve waiver when he's given the choice to switch places).

(he's sorry to leave them... But he's glad Roksoo would be able to have someone on his side right away).

Maybe when they find out the Cale they've seen blossom and change isn't their same puppy.. they mourn a little inside. They were happy that their young master had seemingly turned over a new leaf and started to put himself out there again. They have grown to love and care for this Cale as well, but their hearts ache for the child they helped raise. Whose heart couldn't handle being a part of this world, so he was sent to another.

(if he's happy... Thats enough for them).

Mmm maybe they stayed so long because they didn't want to leave og!Cale alone? So by they kept convincing themselves "one more year, just one more year," but then they couldn't bring themselves to leave.

(they feel horrible about how they would never leave the current Cale).

Cute scenes I'm sharing: Teddy wanting the same dress as JD.

Teddy gives himself wolf ears on full moons.

Harry wanting the Same suit as Alex.

Harry learning to create gold shields like Andy.

… Andromeda and Andy meeting in the perfect ‘Mama Andy’ moment.

I love all of these so much I need you to know that.

Teddy wide-eyed looking at JD’s dress then giving Harry and JD the biggest most watery puppy dog eyes because it’s both pretty and cool and he wants it so bad. He typically wears it with a cardigan which is the perfect mix of JD’s punk style and Harry’s cozy one that it makes everyone coo about their mini-me.

Teddy who tries to distract himself from feeling icky on the moons by trying to change his appearance when he remembers Mac’s ears and he gets really excited. His are blue and stick up out of his curls a little too far but it just makes him look like a puppy that hasn’t grown into them yet. Mac doesn’t cry the first time she sees them but it’s a damn close thing.

Not only does Harry have an exact copy of Alex’s suit he also develops a fondness of skirts that is all Andy. It’s not uncommon to see him matching one parent or another when he goes into H.E.R.A. and goes into Hogwarts already prepared to throw a fit when they tell him that he can’t wear a skirt. He really is out here playing 5D chess with gender and the wizarding world hasn’t even mastered checkers yet.

Wait wait wait nsndnsnsnsbsb imagine a shield charm is supposed to be transparent or just kinda white but some stronger shields tend to lean towards colors. Flitwick tells all of them to think about what makes them feel the safest when they cast, to hold that idea close as they feel the tug in their magic. Around the room most of the shields are clear or white (Ron’s is a familiar red hue while Hermione’s is more brown very close tot he looking old leather) but Harry’s is not only nearly opaque but it’s a blinding gold and silver mix. None of the other students can break Harry’s shield, and even Flitwick says it’s the strongest one he’s seen cast by such a young student. When asked about it Harry says he was thinking about his parents and leave it at that.

You know the dad thing where if there’s more than one dad around and you call for yours all of them look? Andy and Andromeda at all times. They really do become the best of friends and definitely bond over having a “destiny” set for them that they gave the finger to and chose to live the way they wanted instead.
