to say riki considered you and heeseung his parents was an understatement.

he boy genuinely believed you were. so it's safe to say that when his heeseung hyung ( read: dad ) came home to their apartment late to their weekly boys' night and dropped the news, he was devastated.

“me and y/n broke up.“

riki could feel his whole world collapse, suddenly feeling ten again when his parents sat him down to tell him that his mum and dad were getting a divorce and dad was going to be moving back to his old city.

in hindsight, he should’ve consoled his hyung who didn’t look like he had just broken it off with his girlfriend of four years and the woman everyone believed he’d marry one day. he should've gone up to him like a good friend and given him a few words of comfort — maybe even a hug.

but instead, he felt anger. it was selfish, but he couldn’t realise his irrationality over the splitting feeling in his chest, and heeseung's reaction — or lack thereof — didn’t help but wedge a nail in the crack and hammer it down.

he couldn’t make out what the rest of their friends were saying, feeling all his senses suddenly muffle, giving his emotions nowhere to go but out, “what do you mean you broke up.”

the room suddenly felt colder. all their friends stopped talking and froze their gazes on him. seeing sunghoon from his peripheral, sending him a questioning look, but his vision tunnelled on the eldest, who was still standing near the entrance. “you can’t just break up, not now.”

confusion settled on the elder's face, overtly not expecting this reaction from him, “what do you mean i can't? it's my relationship, and we both ended it.”

riki was starting to feel antagonised, seeing faces look back and forth between him and the other, so he stood up in an attempt to size himself up, refusing to see the irrationality of his point. he felt like heeseung was being inconsiderate by breaking up something riki relied on without thinking of the others who'd be affected outside of the relationship.

everyone in their friend group was aware of his abnormal attachments, evident in the shirt he refuses to throw away because it was his father's, even if the fabric had more holes than not, or the two sizes too big shoes his sister gifted him, insisting he would ‘grow into them’ and now yours and heeseung's relationship.

healthy relationships weren't the norm in his life growing up, so by default, riki was hostile and withdrawn towards you the first few times heeseung introduced you as his new girlfriend. reminding himself constantly at the back of his mind that all relationships must come to an end and with every problem heeseung brought home, he was convinced it was near.

however, he must have underestimated you. one year became two, then four, and riki had become accustomed to his life with you. finding himself excited every time you’d come over whenever he was around because you had always seemed to favour him slightly, giving him the best meat cuts whenever you’d eat out together, or saving him the corner of the brownie because you knew it was his favourite part.

maybe it was silly to let you grow a home into the hole in his heart that was carved by his mother, seeking maternal comforts from you and allowing you to become a constant in his life.

but then again, all relationships have an end but riki wasn’t ready to let this one go. “so what? that’s it? you’re just going to end it here after everything?”

“look, it was a mutual breakup. we both just don't feel the same as we did before, so we broke it off like adults. i wish her all the best, just not with me.”

the split started to spread throughout his whole body, feeling his knees start to weaken under the weight of his emotions. when he started to feel his throat clog up and his eyes start to burn, he quickly made his escape, pushing past his hyung making sure to knock their shoulder on his way out to show he wasn't happy with the new change.

he could hear them discussing what happened after slamming his bedroom door, the thin walls leaving no word left unheard, drilling each question into his mind.

maybe then he should’ve left and apologised for his outburst, but grief is a funny feeling.

even though the relationship wasn’t his and never was to begin with, riki had gotten too comfortable living vicariously through you, and now he wanted someone to take responsibility for feelings only he could be blamed for.

but that’s another thing about grief. there’s always someone you want to pin the blame on. someone who caused this emotion to spiral and settle at the pit of his stomach without anywhere else to go leaving it to make itself home in his body.

and it wasn’t going to be him.

sometimes i go on ao3 and filter it so it shows the summaries of all those new hermit watcher griangst grumbo ooc hermit ensemble cast fics where they are haunted by evil server things from 2019/2020 to remind myself what the fanfictions used to be like... i'm remembering the good parts of 2019/2020.

Your recent SCI posts remind me of a few years ago when 2 (or 3? I can't really rmb) of the author's novel series (SCI being one of them) were being published in my area and I got to explain to my non-danmei friends the fun tidbit that the names had to be changed sliiiiightly because they were essentially fanfictions of a well known mystery historical drama (which my mom loves; she still rewatches it sometimes). Fun times.

I noticed when nominating for Yuletide that the show names are synonyms of 1. the book names and 2. shit that is disambiguated as something other than the book.

Just read your drabbles and I feel like you captured the both of them really well!

It didn't quite occur to me initially that kaito would still experience his seizures. :/ if I rmb correctly, they're caused by his constant use of time magic? So his body is reaching its limit. In that case, wouldn't causing his paused time to go again make the situation worse? I'm wondering what form kaitos healing will take, because it seems that for clamp, extending a life means immortality -> Yuko's situation, which wouldn't really fit here either.

Wow thank you so much for reading them!! 🥲 It might seem like I'm seeking validation around (I am), but for me it's really the first time and I was so nervous, for many reasons, not necessarily connected strictly to fanfictions. Writing is really a "world" I've never dared stepping into. I'm also worried about how my English sounds, so there's a lot of insecurities converging...

Anyways! Yea I have the impression that MANY people haven't grasped Kaito's situation from the finale very well, and again I would blame the ENG translation for that, but it's not only that. I feel like CLAMP have glossed over the specific fact to not ruin the atmosphere of the "happy finale", but what they made the characters say is pretty clear. The fact that his time is stopped didn't erase the pain he's been constantly experiencing since long time (the so-called "seizures", which have been there even before the play started), cause if it was enough to also halt completely his seizures, Sakura would've asked Akiho もう辛かったり痛かったりにはならないってこと？ ("does that mean that he's not going to have a hard time and feel pain anymore?"), but sadly what she said is もっと辛かったり痛かったりにはならないってこと？("does that mean that he's not going to have a hard time and feel pain more than this?"). A single word can change so much. Stopping his time means that his overall situation is completely frozen at the point it was before he ended up engulfed by the Seal of D and turned into a dragon. He's not going to age, but his pain won't stop either. But this is literally what's keeping him from dying, because those seizures were meant to become worse and worse, till they would've eventually killed him. That's why Sakura is relieved to hear that "they aren't going to get worse than this". In the bigger picture of things, it's still something to be relieved about.

Now, what Akiho explained they're going to do is to find a magic that would cure him FIRST, AND THEN find a magic that could make his stopped time move again. It's very conditional to the fact that they can find a "cure" for him, and the cure is pretty much bound to extending his lifetime, cause as you have mentioned, Kaito is having these seizures cause the time magic he had used shaved off his lifespan, in the first place. This might mean that if they can find a way to "cure" the seizures, then the lifespan will automatically be extended too. I don't exactly know how CLAMP have envisioned this.

But yeah, once you dig deeper, you can actually understand just how difficult things are going to be for them from now on. It's not going to be easy to find what they're looking for. Still, we're literally talking about bringing back a guy that was supposed to be trapped forever in a dimension where time was destroyed, eternally condemned to solitude in an inhuman shape. Moreover, even if you removed the Seal of D there was still his complete lack of self worth and care for his life, which brought him to use time magic to that degree and eventually bring his body to its limit, at death's door. What everyone was capable of accomplishing in the finale is literally a miracle. Having Kaito alive, even if a bit sickly, is a miracle. I'm absolutely certain that if this was another one of CLAMP's manga, for another demographic, there's no way that Kaito would've been alive and with Akiho, by now. Because the "death flags" were so many for him, and we know how CLAMP are. Everyone gotta bear the consequence of their choices, in their manga. And it's not like they've "let him off the hook" easily either, even for CCS standards.

So yeah, as I said elsewhere some days ago, I desperately need to see a bit of serenity and happiness for them in the special chapter, I need to see for certain that despite the difficult path they've chosen, they're really going to be happy together. 🤞Not only for Kaito but mainly for Akiho too.

i rmb the first plot summary was supposed to be "always an angel never a god, always giving never taking, the most selfish person in the world, a person he'd always love" and like i mentioned in the author's notes it was supposed to be angstier and wayyy longer... i will write the remaining parts someday just not right now,, the vibes and the stars need to align first to make my brain go brrrrr

A little late to the party, but I want to talk about Polin and the changes in s3.

I literally finished the book a day before they announce the synopsis. And you can imagine my reaction pretty much was this:

It’s been only a few years since I really started paying attention to adaptations and how badly they do it. I seriously wonder when did an adaptation became a synonym to fanfiction? Like, these people claim to love the source material, yet make such dramatic changes that sometimes readers hardly recognize the characters on screen.

And I have to say, I love RMB. I really did. How could I not? It has the friends-to-lovers, best-friend/sibling, and unrequited-turned-requited tropes. It gives me such AmyLaurie vibes!!! 🥰 🥰 🥰 🥰 🥰 🥰 🥰

I loved Penelope. And I will never forgive the show for tuning LW into a TV Notas type of column. In the book, Penelope only mocked those who deserve it, like Cressida. She would have never wrote about Marina’s pregnancy. It was just gossip, no harm was done. Otherwise, why would Sophie be such a fan? She only offered a glimpse into the ton, and mocked at people in power. And maybe it help to de-glamourize their lives, like with the maid wars. I can imagine that part was very amusing for the common people. Moreover, LW never wrote ill of Sophie, even when she knew she had been a maid for the Bridgertons. On the contrary, Sophie counts everytime she appears. It makes her feel special!

But most importantly, there’s a beautiful growth that happens. At the end of AOFAG, there is hint for RMB. After 11 years of being LW and writing about other people’s lives, Penelope is ready for her own story to take front and center. And that’s what happens in RMB. Penelope says goodbye to her secret identity and starts writing as herself. I was so happy to see she wrote an autobiographical novel! One that she can proudly claim as her own and get the recognition she deserves.

Yet, judging by the synopsis, LW is not going anywhere. I mean, who knows, but I don’t think the show wants to end it. It’s been only 2 years of the column, so Pen won’t have as much $ as in the book. And I don’t like that they might take the growth away from her. However, I do like that she wants to get married to get away from her family.

As for Colin. I really wish the show had hinted his writing too. They really didn’t need to do much. Just a tiny scene where he’s unpacking and he puts a bunch of diaries on his desk, or him reading a notebook? Polin fans would know instantly what that is, and it would make sense for the rest of the audience once they clear that up in s3. People would be like “oh, so that’s what he was doing all along?” I see people here fearing they will get rid of his writing.

oh dear god more than 10k- I think the last time i did that was like when i was 16 ahfsjkgh tho idk bc back then i dont write digital, i PHYSICALLY wrote my stories in a small notebook. Yeah my wrist was crying back then-

If this tells you anything, this story has taken me so long - Atherix is reading it now and she's talking about a scene in it to me and i forgot i put it in. @-@ if all goes well I'm probably going to break the story up into chapters and edit it in chunks [+ write the last section and edit it]

To be fair this is also a story where I am trying to answer a lot of questions without. Actually answering them yet. Exploring a little on how the brain unwraps trauma and tries to deal with it when it gets to be too much because it was all revealed at once. They are. Going through it. It's fine. Everyone's fine. :)

And yessss - I stole the idea from a fiction workshop class I had in college. As part of the workshop we had to summarize every story in like, 5 or 6 sentences and I adapted that to be 5 or 6 sentences + worldbuilding notes + 2-3 sentences per side story - in my professor's defense she was talking about short stories that were, at maximum, 15 pages, and now im dealing with a nearly 40k already fanfiction series lolol I highly recommend trying it, it really changes the game.

like i've done this shit for ages man !!! you think i know how to make a comprehensive tagging system of every trope just like that ?? i've ran multiple fic rec blogs before and i promise, almost no author cares if you share their fic after it's deleted. if anything, a bunch don't even rmb why they deleted it and sometimes regret it.

like this one time i had someone ask me for a link of a deleted fic and it was their own !!!! they had deleted it a while back and didn't have any backup copy of it and wanted to repost it.

and yeah, it's just a little funny like its fuckin mcyt fanfiction man, you're not going to hell for it. your fanfiction is not encouraging any misdeed or sin. if anything it brings people joy and comfort and you'll probably rmb it fondly later too. if not, then just forget about it. orphaning a fic also exists.
