What Happens When You Read Stormlight Archive first...
Personally, I ignored all of the “reading order” advice and chose Way of Kings as my very first Sanderson book. No regrets, to be honest! But from personal experience, here is what happens when your first stop in the Cosmere is the Stormlight Archive.
[Spoilers for Mistborn & Stormlight Archive & Warbreaker]
1. You don’t know who Hoid is
At first, Wit was just another character to me. Then the hints that he was, like, immortal or super old or some sort of god kept piling up. When Dalinar asked Wit if he was a Herald, I thought, “Ah ha! I was right!”
I was not right.
2. You don’t recognize any Worldhoppers
Zahel was just a grumpy guy who could do weird things with laundry. Azure was cool but I didn’t understand why she just sort of left the plot at one point. When people were called “oddly short” by Roshar standards, it meant nothing to me.
3. You don’t recognize non-Roshar magic
Seriously, that laundry scene with Zahel made NO SENSE to me. And when Hoid used non-Roshar powers, I just figured it was, like, some sort of bard thing.
4. You get very impatient with the interludes
I didn’t want my world to be expanded or to understand the nuances of spren or fabrials. I just wanted to get back to Kaladin! I remember being completely baffled by that one interlude where three men I didn’t know where looking for some dude with white hair and a narrow face.
It was definitely only on a reread that I appreciated them.
5. The big reveals are lost on you at first
When Szeth’s sword asked if he wanted to destroy some evil today, I thought, “Huh! Neat!” When Ialai namedropped Scadrial, I thought it was probably a person. And when Thaidakar was revealed as the Lord of Scars, I don’t think I even noticed really? I was too busy weeping as I tried to remember the difference between Thaidakar and Restares.
6. You buy into the Shallan-Adolin-Kaladin love triangle
Honestly, I wasn’t sure which way it would turn out! Would Shallan leave Adolin for Kaladin? It felt so plausible! I had not yet learned the ironclad rule that all arranged marriages in a Sanderson book will be successful. By the time I got to Warbreaker, I was like, “Oh, Siri is being married against her will to the evil, tyrannical god-king? I guess they’ll get along!” And I was right.
7. The magic system feels like so much
I was hanging on by a thread trying to keep straight Surgebinding and Honorblades and Shardblades and whatever Hoid had going on. Not to mention fabrials. By the time I got to Mistborn, it was like, “Three completely independent magic systems that depend on their own rules and can interact? Yeah! I can handle that!”
8. You want to read them all
For me, starting with Stormlight Archive was best! I loved it so much that I was suddenly wanting to read everything Sanderson wrote. Plus, the backwards reveals were pretty fun. Oh, you’re dead, are you, Kelsier? That’s not what Book 4 of Stormlight says...
And hey! Crazy how the King’s Wit keeps showing up!

Foxtrot Alpha Alpha - Chapter 36
Tumblr media
Pairing: Hangman x Female OC
Word Count: 2373
Warnings: Swearing
Summary: Hangman learned his lesson a long time ago to never show his true feelings when someone's words or actions hurt him. To do so showed weakness that could be exploited, and Seresin men couldn't show weakness. Of course, there was an exception to every rule, and Jake's always came in the form of women, three in particular: his mom, Juliette Kazansky, and the girl whose name he could no longer bring himself to speak. She was the girl that got away; she was his biggest 'what if' and his biggest regret; she would forever be the ghost that haunted his dreams. Jake believed that's where she'd stay, for he would surely never see her again after what he did.
Or so he thought.
Notes: This is the sequel to India Lima Yankee; I'm using the same callsign for the Female OC as in Ghost Story because I just really like it, but they are different characters; chapters in italics are flashbacks.

Ghost
Standing at the threshold of Hangman's apartment turned out to be even more daunting than anticipated. Staring at his door, Ghost thought grimly: I really should've figured out what to say before I got here. But there's no turning back now. Here goes nothing.
Her hand thudded heavily on the wooden door. She waited impatiently for a few seconds before knocking again. Once more, nothing. Ghost sighed, figuring he wasn't answering because it was her. She knew he was home; otherwise, his blinds wouldn't be raised. Unless he had headphones in while he worked out... that was a good possibility.
Ghost hesitated, grabbed hold of the doorknob, and twisted it. The door opened without resistance.
"Guess some things really never do change." Ghost stepped inside and set her backpack on the floor, calling out, "Hangman? You home?"
Noise in the back of the apartment caught her attention.
Please don't let there be a girl here...
"Hangman?" Ghost called out again, slowly walking toward the noise. She warily poked her head into the bedroom. "Jake, are-"
"Fuck!" Hangman's voice boomed to her right, and she jumped to face him. Staring at each other like startled deer, Ghost's eyes trailed down his glistening body, water droplets rolling down from his shoulders to his abdomen to his-
Tumblr media
Ghost whirled around, cheeks flush from embarrassment and silent awe at what she'd seen. Meanwhile, Hangman hurriedly wrapped a towel around his waist and demanded, "What the hell are you doing here?"
"I came to talk to you," Ghost replied, wincing at how stupid the words sounded coming out of her mouth.
"And you couldn't have called?"
"Would you have picked up?"
His irked silence gave her the answer. "That's what I thought."
"So you thought waltzing in here was a good idea?"
"I always told you to keep your doors locked before someone unsavory person walked in." I just never thought I'd fall into that category...
"Did you come here to tell me 'I told you so,' or is there another reason?" he snapped. Hangman moved to his dresser, pulling out fresh clothes.
"We need to talk. I'll be in the kitchen when you're ready."
"You're going to be waiting a while."
"Fine. I have nothing else planned today anyway."
Turning on her heel, Ghost exited the bedroom and strode to the kitchen. The bedroom door slammed shut behind her. If Hangman thought his rude demeanor and behavior would dissuade her from talking and persuade her to leave, he was vastly mistaken. Ghost opened her backpack and pulled out the box of letters, setting them on the kitchen island, pristinely clean like the rest of Hangman's apartment.
He took his sweet time getting ready, so Ghost contented herself with rereading the letters as a reminder of why she'd come here as the stress of the impending talk began to loom over her more and more.
Relax. We'll work this out. It'll be fine. Perfectly fine. We'll-
Her affirmations were cut off by her ringing phone. Glancing at the screen, she saw her mom's name. Ghost frowned and silenced the call. Not right now. The drama over Maverick being her dad could wait until later when she was emotionally capable of handling it. She was dealing with enough at the moment.
"One existential crisis at a time," Ghost mumbled to herself while she silenced the second call from her mom. A third call came in, but this time, from an unknown number. Either Charlie was borrowing someone's phone to try and reach her, or a new person was trying to call her. Curiosity got the better of her, and Ghost answered. "Hello?"
"Hello, Annalise."
The voice sent ice running down her veins. She shouldn't have answered. "What do you want, Kyle?"
"To talk."
"Did Hangman's threats not get through that thick skull of yours?" Ghost snarled, bracing herself on the counter to keep her hand from shaking. Something about his eerily calm tone set her on edge.
"Either you tell me where you are so I can come talk to you, or I will find you," Kyle said, "and I will not be alone."
"Come anywhere near me, and I will get that restraining order in place." Movement out of the corner of her eye caught Ghost's attention. Hangman walked in, throwing a shirt on, staring at her in concern. He must've heard the last bit of the conversation. She mouthed 'Kyle' to him, and his expression went livid. Without a word, he held out his hand, and Ghost placed her phone in it.
Tumblr media
"If you call my girl one more time-" Hangman growled, his lip curling involuntarily- "there will be hell to pay. I have a lot of pent-up rage right now, and I'd love nothing more than to use you as my personal punching bag."
My girl. The declaration sent shivers down Ghost's spine, even though she understood he only said it as a way to deter Kyle from reaching out to her again. Ghost had learned long ago that some men respected another man's claim on a woman more than the woman's outright denial of him.
Kyle said something else, and judging by the murder in Hangman's eyes, it was nothing good. Ghost's suspicion was confirmed when he snarled, "Do not touch her, or I'll make you wish you were dead."
Hangman hung up after that and returned the phone to Ghost, who asked, "What did he say?"
"I'm not going to repeat it, but... be careful. Kyle's obsessed with you, and he's with Nick now. He has backup if he decides to confront you. Just... be on guard."
"It's good he doesn't know where I live then."
"Don't underestimate Nick's abilities. Even if you've blocked your address from being found by normal methods, if he wants something, Nick will find it." Hangman opened his mouth as if to add more but shut it and moved away from Ghost. He opened a kitchen cupboard and pulled out a glass, filling it with water. "So, why did you barge in here?"
"To talk. About everything. Including-" Ghost slid the box to him- "these."
The color drained from Hangman's face. Deathly quiet, he queried, "How did you get those?"
"It doesn't mat-"
"Yes, it does! You weren't supposed to read these! Where the hell did you-" The epiphany suddenly dawned on him- "Coyote. God... damn it!"
He swiped at the glass of water, sending it flying across the kitchen and shattering against the wall. Shards scattered everywhere, and Ghost might've been concerned about the sudden show of rage had Hangman not suddenly sagged against the counter, shaking.
"How much did you read?" he asked, deceptively calm.
"I didn't intend to read any of them at first since you hadn't been the one to give them to me. Then I decided to read the first one," Ghost admitted guiltily, hating how much this appeared to be affecting him. "And then I couldn't stop. I read all of them."
Hangman scoffed. "They were the ramblings of a delusional aviator. I don't see what was so riveting in them," he replied, heading to a closet and grabbing a broom and dustpan. "You shouldn't have read them. They weren't meant for you."
"Then why were you addressing them to me?"
"Because maybe it started out that way, and it was the closest I could come to telling you what was on my mind without actually burdening you with it."
Ghost shook her head. "We'd been friends for years, Jake. Burdens aren't meant to be carried alone. Your burdens were mine, and vice versa."
"My burdens stopped being yours when I killed you and Ghoul!" He snapped, furiously brushing the shards of glass into the dustpan. She waited for him to finish the chore before she spoke, mainly because she wasn't sure what to say next. Hangman, however, decided he hated her silence and asked a question of his own. "What are you doing? Why are you still coming after me when I told you to leave me alone?"
"Because I told you once that you were stuck with me. Yes, we had a fight. Yes, it was a nasty one, and in our grief, we fractured our friendship. We both had parts in it. You tried to mend it early on, but I was stupid and ignored you. I'm sorry it took me this long to realize the demons you were facing in the aftermath of it. I'm sorry, Jake," Ghost said earnestly, finally taking a step toward him.
"Why do you care so much about fixing us after all this time?"
"Because I loved you back," Ghost replied, sliding his last letter over to him. "Unequivocally, unabashedly, wholeheartedly, I loved you."
I still love you.
At the echo of his written word rolling so easily off her tongue, Hangman's green eyes searched her face, scanning for any lies and deception. "Why are you telling me this now?"
"Because I need you to understand that as long as I'm around, you are not alone in this world. That you will always have someone willing to pull you out of that darkness."
"I don't want to have this conversation, Ghost."
"I don't care. It needs to happen. It's needed to happen for a long time now."
"You should go."
Ghost stood her ground. "No."
His nostrils flared, and he pointed firmly at the door. "Go."
"On one condition."
"This is not a negoti-"
"Do you love me?" Ghost interrupted, stepping toward him again.
"What?" The question took him aback, and he shook his head. "That's not-"
"Do you love me?" Ghost repeated.
"I can't do this, Annalise. We can't-"
She would not be deterred. "Tell me you don't love me, and I will walk out that door right now and never return. I will give you what you want. But first, you have to tell me that you don't love me."
It was a dangerous game she played. For all Ghost knew, Hangman would tell her those dreaded words, and then she'd have to follow through with her promise, even if it killed her to do it.
Hangman took a step back from her, shaking his head. "Annalise, please, I can't- I'm trying to protect you. Why can't you see that?"
"Protect me from what? What do I need protection from? Why won't you answer my question about if you lo-"
"Just stop. Please, stop asking-"
"Is this because you're afraid I won't love you back?" Ghost stared him down, challenging him to answer. When her question was met with silence, she decided to finally reveal the truth that she'd been lying to herself about since the accident that had torn them apart. At the risk of having her last guard wall between them torn down, if it meant she got him to answer, then she'd do it. She'd do anything for him. "Because I do. I love you, Jake."
Hangman froze, the genuineness of her statement crashing over him as his gaze searched her face once more for the lie, but he wouldn't find one. All he would see were the tears welling in Ghost's eyes as she said, "I love you, Jake. I love you so much that if leaving is what you truly want me to do, then I will. If you tell me you do not love me, I will walk out that door without another word or argument. I will do as you wish, and we- we can live our separate lives and be cordial to each other when social situations are required, but I will not talk to you during those times or contact you outside of them. I will find a way to live my life without having the hope that one day, you will once again be in it. But first-" Ghost closed the distance between herself and Hangman, heart and head aching in terror at what his words would be to her request- "you need to tell me that you do not love me."
"Annie, I..." Hangman gulped, and Ghost could've sworn his entire body shook. "I'm a danger. To you, to everyone who-"
Tumblr media
"That wasn't my question," she said sharply. "Do you love me?"
"I'm cursed! You don't deserve a life with a man who could get you killed or a guy who was so weak that he thought jumping into the black waves would solve all his issues. You deserve-"
"Jake!" Annalise exclaimed in exasperation, grasping his forearms firmly. "I will decide what type of man I deserve! And I will be the barrier between you and the black waves when they try calling for you to jump into them again. I will stand with you through the good and the bad. Just tell me: do you love me?"
"I love you!" Jake burst, chest rising and falling rapidly at the emotion he loosed. He broke from her grasp, clasping his hands behind his head as he walked away from her. Hangman took a few deep breaths, calming himself, before facing Ghost and closing the distance between them. He cupped her face, and in the gentlest of voices, he said, "Annie, I have loved you from the moment you tried to take my head off with your guitar. I never said anything because I did not want to drag someone as bright and full of light as you down with me into my darkness. I wanted you to find someone who deserved you, and I never saw myself as that man."
I love you. I love you. I love you. The words rang loudly in her head, and Ghost couldn't quite believe she was finally hearing them fall from his lips after all this time. She covered her hands with his, unable to tear her gaze from her sparkling green eyes.
"You-" Hangman began, kissing her brow- "have bewitched me- body and soul- since the day I met you, and I love you."
Ghost smiled at the reference to her favorite film. She tilted her head up to brace her forehead against his. "Forever?"
Without hesitation, without stumbling or missing a beat, Hangman replied, "And always."
Tumblr media
Ghost closed the gap between their lips, and no more words needed to be said.

omg imo I could've sworn there was at least one full week left of november for some reason but dec 1 is on friday BYE locking myself up to finish my books 🏃‍♀️ HOW WAS YOUR NOVEMBER READING!! are you already in the holiday spirit are you planning on reading/watching some holiday related things to get you there? this one's rando, but do you have any favorite holiday foods/desserts/drinks you're excited to indulge in during this last month o 2023 ☃️
november being 30 days always goes by SO quickly she knows we're ready for the main event. november was a very good reading month for me let's get into the
november book wrap up
Small Island by Andrea Levy
i finished this pretty early on in novembr, my thoughts are along the same lines as my goodreads review: Great piece of historical fiction. I found parts of this so funny and I'm not sure if that was the original intention but I did have a giggle! The humour was found moreso in Gilbert and Hortense who are just so, so different to each other and Hortense's wilful misunderstanding and naivete as she tries to be a Model Minority was just so funny it was a much needed brevity compared to the heaviness of the rest of the story. Such foul racist thoughts that can be burdensome after a while, though. Yeah! I don't need to read the POV of a white British man stationed in India in the second world war ever again, actually! I enjoyed reading though.
A Game of Thrones by George R.R Martin
reread this because I hadn't picked up a high fantasy book I'd actually enjoyed in a little while. Great! I love ASOIAF as a series love returning to a known entity. I can't find my copies of A Storm of Swords or A Clash of Kings so continuing my reread is on pause until those unearth themselves.
Drive Your Plow over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk
Brilliant! So, so atmospheric. Incredible translation to me, obviously I won't know for sure until there ever comes a day where I can read Polish, but I got so much of the story out of this. It was just so cool and not what I expected at all going into it. I've never read anything like it before so getting to grips with all of the quirks of the style, subject and character was its on experience.
Butcher's Crossing by John Williams
Stoner was one of my top 2022 reads, so I saved this knowing that I'd like it. Rachel Cusk coded. It didn't blow me away like Stoner did, but I appreciate these are two very different books with completely different approaches. Where Stoner is so insular, things are kind of bursting in Butcher's Crossing. William isn't a complete active character, but he's participating in his life. Really cool setting, one of the most tense books I've read which I find can fall short in books with more action but the way tension builds and builds and builds in these fraught interactions between the four men on the mountain is fucking incredible. Immediately watched the film after this, and I love Nicolas Cage as much as the next person, but it fell short for me as an adaptation and as a film, sadly! Will be reading Augustus very soon as the last novel Williams' acknowledges as his own work.
The Power of the Dog by Thomas Savage
Another Western! Apparently I couldn't get enough! Not long finished this, so bear with for complete thoughts. Realised that I haven't read a book with such a sinister character in a while. Phil is sinister and strange and he's complicated, and I just really liked this book! Took me a while to get through because it is so dense at parts, but I think playing the long game definitely paid off. I love books that can make life so dramatic, all of the small stuff builds up to this big moment kind of thing. Netflix removed this film??? Will be making time to watch it this weekend for sure!
Outlawed by Anna North
3/3 with Western's which is so out of left field for me I feel. Finished it today, but on my top 2023 shelf, for sure. I think reading these back-to-back has made me appreciate the difference in style and storytelling so much more. I was a bit nervous because I've found previous Reese Witherspoon book club picks really juvenile, and whilst this is way more accessible than BC or TPotD, there's still a lot of complexity that I was able to enjoy. I love communities and found families, and it just really got me reading this book about these "women" ostracized from society making something of their own at risk of imprisonment and hanging. Thought it was really neat :)
December Reads
I'm on the Kindle through to the end of the year (10 days to New York!) so I'll be getting a couple new titles to diversify my options more. I don't have anything set in stone but I did download pdf's of The Hunger Games series which I've never read before so I might do those.
My Christmas mood started on November 1st! Multiple plays of Ariana Grande's Christmas & Chill, and I've already watched a few Christmas films. I watched The Holiday for the first time recently and found it boring :( I'm not a Jude Law enjoyer sorry.
Oh I love a hot cider! Ferrero Rocher's, stuffing, anything Christmassy really! I'm also so excited for a Christmas in New York! I have an itinerary going and many pictures to take!

2, 9, 11, 12, 22?
2. Do you read/reread your own fics? It really honestly kindof depends on the fandom on this one. Generally speaking when I put some creative thing out there of any kind I am loathe to re-watch or re-read it (with the exception of looking at my own fanart- unless it was especially bad I love looking back at some of my old stuff just for the sheer thrill of seeing how much progress I’ve made) BUtT!!!! There is the exception of when it’s like. I’m either in a fandom in which the character I like gets character assassinated in fics a lot of the time and I need enrichment from outside sources or my own. OR when I’m just in a fandom where people don’t write x reader fics that much for the character and I’m the only one writing them and I have to re-read myself bc that’s the only content out there (current predicament re; everything Jared Harris has been in and it’s a crime that I’ve spent the whole year trying to remedy lmao).
9. Do you write every day? If you wrote today, share a sentence of what you’ve written!
OK SO!!!! This was actually a couple of paragraphs I got down yesterday and it’s some of the more solid stuff I’ve put out in recent months, but I’m very proud of how it turned out:
Sinclair was never particularly fussy when it came to her appearance, which made changing for dinner a fairly brief affair. She had learned from an early age that there was certainly no room for such attentions on a ship, and in fact had great fun in witnessing first-time sea-faring ladies, passengers of course on The Demeter, who tried to keep their appearances in spite of the swell and sway of the high seas. She remembered fondly then, the laugh of Mrs. Rose Anthony. How she’d wished to hear it now and all these months gone past. She would have laughed to see Fitzjames on the deck this morning, with that ridiculous cloak flowing behind him like a peacock with his feathers at half mast. None of the men would see it as she did. Not that she was in too much want of friends among them. But fewer still would understand her sense of humor as Rose had.  Pondering this, Sinclair forewent her shirt and waistcoat- both of which were custom tailored, as it wouldn’t do for the navy to commission such a garment. But her father had, for her sake. One of his many parting gifts. The very same man whose picture Sinclair’s gaze drifted to as she buttoned the deep blue bodice that had also been part of the set he had purchased for her, this one long sleeved to match the deep blue flannel day skirt she kept on, and which had served her so well in the chilly climate. She’d missed too how well he’d been able to do her hair for an occasion like this, where Sinclair now only managed a bun tied fairly neatly to the back of her head (more than she’d dare to manage for her daily duties, she might add), but it suited her all the same for the impression Sir John, and indeed, most of the men had of her. Neat as a pin. Diligent. A fixture of a plain sort of beauty in the corner. Never the center of their attentions, but never quite ignored.
12. Do you have a playlist for your current WIP(s)? Share it!
As I said in the other ask I have like. Just so many. None of them coherent- but THIS ONE has been my instrumental inspiration for a little while so there you have it. Someday I will consolidate all my fave lady terror vibes into a proper playlist... but that is not today...
22. Do you know how your fic will end before you start writing?
I mean… sort of. Like in general I do like to have some kind of sense where something is going before I start it- if it’s anything I’ve learned from commercial failures like GOT and the Star Wars Sequels it’s that poor planning will fucking kill you because actually as it turns out narrative structure is important. But at the same time- I think this was a quote from George R.R. Martin that some writers are “builders” who have everything pre-conceived before they put anything down (in reference to Stephen King), and some are “gardeners” (like George) who let stories just grow as they go. For me personally I’ve never felt too tied to either camp, so I put forth my secret third option being: “chef”. I know what I want the end-product to be. I have a general sense of what it should taste like and how I should cook it-thematically speaking. But things still come up as I go. Sometimes it needs a bit more of one spice than another and I try to listen to those instincts when they tell me to add something to what I’m making.

Could you please write a story about daddy Giroud?
05 / 05 / 2023
🇬🇧🇺🇲 ENGLISH / ANGLAIS 🇺🇲🇬🇧
Here is my response to the request for a story on Olivier Giroud. I assume that by "Daddy Giroud" you mean French professional footballer Olivier Giroud. 😏
First of all thank you for asking me to write a story. I see it as proof that my blog still arouses interest, given that the likes and comments are rare on certain stories. It seems that stories about straight white men are getting more and more popular.
Concerning Olivier Giroud, I take advantage of this request for a story to write a MAN OF THE DAY article, because this man deserves it for many reasons.
Tumblr media
MAN OF THE DAY #67 : OLIVIER GIROUD
Olivier Giroud is a French alpha male. I hadn't really mentioned it in my recent ranking of the most beautiful French men in my opinion, but in reality I was wrong to not include him.
Olivier Giroud has always been a very handsome man, although he's one of those men who makes a beard sexier. He has always had fun with his reputation and the image of a very handsome man he projects.
It must be understood that he is one of the rare famous French men of whom even the most straight men will assume to say that he is sublime. When I was a teenager and until high school, my girlfriends admitted without embarrassment that he was one of their crushes. You might expect a young girl to be endowed by a man closer to her in age, but in reality I think the muscular and mature side is attractive.
Indeed, Olivier Giroud stands out with his calm character, his calm attitude, a tidy family life and dignified behavior. His positions are always taken with lightness to avoid causing problems, he has always accepted to be put aside if necessary in the interest of the group.
And today he is the top scorer in the history of the French football team with more than fifty goals to his credit.
Aged 36 and standing 1.93m tall, he is therefore not only tall and muscular but also impressive without being intimidating. He is a good player, honest friend and protective father, a proud patriot and a talented footballer.
A story about him? Well I already wrote one a year ago, it was centered on his romantic relationship (invented but inspired by a photo that went around the world) with the player Kylian MBappe (on which I was incidentally recently asked for a story).
I invite you to reread it. If you don't like it or if you suggested something different, tell me your ideas in comments or by messages.
Would you like a story that focused on him as a lover? In which case I would need details if you care about this story because, as he is married and I have already imagined him in a relationship with Kylian MBappe, I do not see him as a basic homo. But he sure could be, and I think I made his romance with Kylian MBappe believable. This story is therefore part of the CELEBRITIES IN LOVE collection. I also wanted him to be quite dominant, but without being too authoritarian because that's not the image he reflects of himself.

If it's a story where he is dominant, it could be a sequel to my fiction which is also a story from the SPORTS, NEW KINGS collection. As for the Portuguese Christiano Ronaldo, the Brazilian Neymar and the Swedish Zlatan Ibrahimovic whom I transformed into sovereigns of their native countries, I made Olivier Giroud the King of France. The story you're asking me about could be about that.
As you can see in the images I have included, he is worshipped, and even in real life. Indeed his hometown posted an image of him to proclaim their pride in him.
Tumblr media
Well, I hope I answered your suggestion and gave you some plots ideas.
Dears readers, don't hesitate to tell me your opinion on Olivier Giroud (his beauty 😍...).

Congrats on 3k!!!! You are so incredibly talented, and one of my favourite writers (and one of the very first cod blogs I ever found who changed my understanding of these fictional men so fundamentally that it still bleeds into my work today - looking directly at you, the little things). You deserve all the support and recognition for your amazing work 🖤
My picks for the celebration are:
🎶 playlists
1. here there be monsters (my spooky halloween playlist)
✂️ snippet
👽 the cryptid collection
I'm sure you're absolutely swamped, so please don't feel pressured to answer all of them! Again, congrats!
asdaslkjsfd no wait hold on pls omg you're going to make me ugly cry rn i swear 😭 you were (and still are) one of my biggest inspirations when i started writing cod fics and to this day i still look to your price and soap as some of the best portrayals i've ever read, thank you this means so much to me 💜
🎶 playlists
Here There Be Monsters 1. woman king - iron & wine 2. come little children - the hound + the fox 3. the unquiet grave - karliene
✂️ snippet (monster!au - kyle "gaz" garrick x reader)
He is incomprehensible. Everywhere and nowhere. Surrounding you with his gaze, dozens of eyes—human, animal, creatures long forgotten, and beings not yet brought into existence—all staring beyond your flesh and bone and into the deepest depths of your soul. Searching. Craving. Feeding. It's warm, you think. Like a lost lover's tender embrace, burning, comforting, and all-encompassing. There is no end to him because there is no beginning. He is the start and end of everything you could ever want, everything you could ever need. Words cannot come to you, your mind full of him and only him. How he's stripped himself of all earthly attachments for you, allowed you the privilege to gaze upon his true form; a feat sought after and unattained by millions before you, and will continue to be by billions after you. It is the only thing he can give you here in this cursed place. An offering not of wealth or material, but one far more valuable. Pure divinity laid bare at your feet. You are not worthy.
👽 the cryptid collection
i thought long and hard about this one, and i think i'm going to have to go with the wanderlights!! while technically more supernatural than anything sort of cryptid-related, wanderlights are v similar and sometimes used interchangeably with ghost-lights, ghost orbs, and will o' the wisps!! described as atmospheric lights seen by travelers, they are known to lead travelers off the "safe" path. very much like how your fics are beacons of light that often lead me off the safe path of having a consistent sleep schedule because i stay up late rereading them over and over. to me, they're very beautiful and they remind me so much of the fireflies that i used to play with as a kid and i think that vibes fits you very well: beautiful, fun, and friendly.

And the king sent, and they gathered unto him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem. And the king went up into the house of the Lord, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of the LORD. And the king stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the Lord, to walk after the Lord, and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant. - 2 Kings 23:1-3 KJV
Josiah was a king who had tried to do the right thing, and when Hilkiah brought him the book of the Law which he had found in God's house and read it to him, it opened his eyes to all that had been going on in Judah and made him repent. This is how he came to recommit both himself and the people of Judah to the covenant. He proceeded to tear down the altars of the pagan gods and destroy anything that was part of their worship. We know that this reform would not be permanent as the Israelites kept forgetting about the fidelity they owed to God. They would return to idol worship and forget what God had done for them. Eventually, everything that was Israel under the rule of David would be lost to foreign nations.
Even today, there is unrest in the Holy Land! How long does it take for us to fall back on our own bad habits or sins? We promise not to gossip – until we have a juicy piece of information we just can't wait to share! We promise not to lie, but then we want to avoid getting into trouble and we forget our promise! We resolve not to lose our temper at our spouse or our children, and then we have a bad day at work, come home and feel like the weight of the world is on our shoulders and Wham! There goes the temper, everyone is upset, and our resolve is no more. Maybe it's time to reread the words of the Commandments and the command of Jesus once more. The more time we take to lean on the LORD God as His ways and teachings, the less we will be tempted to break them. We are so grateful that God keeps on forgiving us, His often wayward creation and children. May He give us that firm resolve we need to avoid temptation and those occasions that lead us to sin, and the willingness to forgive others as He forgives us.
Everyday, we must remember to thank Him for the grace that He poured out for us on the cross. He has freed us from the burdens of sin and guilt. May He help us to always walk in His grace and Holy Spirit, not by our own measure. May He give us the humble humility to know that our freedom and eternal salvation is found only in Him, so that His grace may sustain us, and we may never lose sight of His love and light and mercy. Thank Father God Almighty and the LORD Jesus Christ for calling us to Him and to serve Him. May He equip us to do all that He has called us to do so that as He works through us, He may use us to produce fruit, to reach others, and to encourage all brothers and sisters in Christ. May He work all of these things in us and through us for His Kingdom and His glory. Thank Father God Almighty and the LORD Jesus Christ for all His creation, for His miraculous ways and for everything He does and has done for us! Keep the faith and keep moving forward in your walk with Jesus!
Thank Father God Almighty and the LORD Jesus Christ for His Holy Word and for sending His Holy Spirit so that we might have His grace, not only to awaken us and transform our hearts in our spiritual rebirth and guarantee our eternity with Him, but to also call upon Him whenever we are in need. Thank Father God Almighty and the LORD Jesus Christ for all the reminders of His love and mercy and faithfulness within His Holy Word. He is bigger than any challenge or circumstance in our lives. Knowing this within our minds and our hearts, nothing can deter our faith in Him and His Truth. May we all accept Him and His eternal gift of salvation and ask that He would transform our hearts and lives according to His will and ways. Thank Father God Almighty and the LORD Jesus Christ for His Holy Spirit who saves, seals and leads us. May we always thank Father God Almighty and the LORD Jesus Christ for His almighty power and saving grace. For He is our strength, and He alone is able to save us, forgive our sins and gift us eternal salvation and entry into His Kingdom of Heaven.
May we make sure that we give our hearts and lives to God and take time to seek and praise Him and share His Truth with the world daily. May the LORD our God and Father in Heaven help us to stay diligent and obedient and help us to guard our hearts in Him and His Holy Word daily. May He help us to remain faithful and full of excitement to do our duty to Him and for His glorious return and our reunion in Heaven as well as all that awaits us there. May we never forget to thank the LORD our God and our Creator and Father in Heaven for all this and everything He does and has done for us! May we never forget who He is, nor forget who we are in Christ and that God is always with us! What a mighty God we serve! What a Savior this is! What a wonderful Lord, God, Savior and King we have in Jesus Christ! What a loving Father we have found in Almighty God! What a wonderful God we serve! His will be done!
Thanks and glory be to God! Blessed be the name of the LORD! Hallelujah and Amen!

1, 10, 13, and 22 for the history ask? C:
1: Favourite historical person
I already answered this one here. Short answer: Magnus Hirschfeld.
10: Pieces of art ( paintings, sculpures, lithographies, ect.) related to history you like most ( post an image of them)
It's probably no secret that I have a fondness for homoerotic neoclassical art, lol
Aesthetically I have other art movements that speak to me more (post-impressionism, for instance) but what fascinates me about neoclassical art is also the whole... god, like European obsession with the classics and how that intersects with different aspects of society and how like, there's a huge difference between studying what the classical world was actually like versus what people through history have thought the classical world was like and how that has been used rhetorically at different points in time and....!
I'm going to go with That One Minotaur Sculpture Where It Looks Like Theseus Is Riding Him (ie Theseus and the Minotaur, Antonio Canova, 1781-82). Aside from the pose being both amusing and genuinely erotic, the fact that it is eroticised in this way also talks to contemporary art theory and like, the homoerotic as part of the artistic ideal in itself and how classical subject matter was used to filter that?? Idk, there's just a lot going on with that sculpture and the culture surrounding its creation lol.
Tumblr media
13: Something random about some random historical person in a random era
Ah, erhm... Gah, I find this one difficult, I'm more about broad movements than specific people...
According to her autobiography (which I have only read random snippets of, it can be found here in Danish, German, British English and American English), when Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener first arrived in Paris, they stayed in the hotel room Oscar Wilde had been staying in when he died and they were inspired to reread a few of his works.
22: Random historical fact about the place you are at the moment
The first written reference to the village that would become Copenhagen in historical sources is in Knýtlinga saga, where it's referred to as Höfn or Havn (literally "Harbour").
(source) Quick English translation of the Danish by me Svend first fled to Zealand with those of the survivors who wanted to follow him, but King Magnus sailed after him at once and met Svend at the place that is called Havn; there he lay with a small number of ships.
This reference seems to check out with archaeological data as a village located around where central Copenhagen is today, from what I've read.
Of course the more famous early reference to Copenhagen is the second one, where Bishop Absalon was granted dominion over a slew of areas by the pope with "Hafnia" among them.

WARNINGS: MENTIONS OF WAR
1914
JOIN YOUR COUNTRY'S ARMY
God Save The King!
EDEN rolled her eyes at the headline in today's newspaper. It was all she saw for the last two weeks and it felt as soon as they entered the sixth month of the year, the papers were non-stop.
Sure she knew there was a crisis, but she couldn't imagine what the world would be like if every man enlisted and went and fought in this... war. She didn't believe it would be all fun and games like the papers said.
"You seein' this?" Eden put down the paper, looking up at Polly just as Ada went upstairs.
It was Sunday afternoon and the Dawkins woman stopped by to drop some medicine for the Shelby girl, who had a raging headache.
"Everyone's seein' it love, the boys won't stop goin' on 'bout it," Polly chuffed, placing a cup of tea down on the kitchen table for the nurse to consume.
Ever since Eden stepped through the door, the was something off about her, and Polly was determined to find out what.
"Tom hasn't said much to me," Eden murmured, rereading today's column.
"He won't, it's men's business as he puts it, the cheek of 'im'," Polly scoffed at her nephew's previous comment.
Eden hummed in agreement, "I've learnt to tune out his outlandish comments, if I didn't he would be rewarded a smack."
"Got a powerful backhand, Eden?" Polly asked, very amused.
Eden innocently shrugged, "John said I did."
"That boy," Polly tutted, "Martha's at her mum's again with Katie. I dunno what he said to her, but it can't be good."
"It never is," she knew how John could get, especially when he felt ganged up on or wronged, he would say anything and everything that came to mind. He has to learn.
"Now go on, drink your tea," Polly nodded to the cup that hadn't been touched.
Eden leaned back at the scent, "Can't drink much more, I've been pissin' like mad," she said and Polly leaned forward at that, "Woke Tommy up three times last night because of it".
"Sure that's the only reason he woke up," Polly jested, with an eye roll.
Eden gasped, "Polly?!"
"What?" she then insisted again, "Finish your tea."
Sighing, Eden picked it up, "Fine but the smell is potent."
Polly began more intrigued, "Potent ey?"
"Come to think of it, everythin' smells strong," Eden exclaimed, scrunching up her face, "Tom tried kissin' me in the Garrison yesterday, caught a whiff of his whiskey and I got up and left."
"Odd."
"Very. Let me finish the tea."
Eden reluctantly took a sip, then another, before forcing the whole thing down her throat.
"Been havin' dreams recently? No —" she shook her head, mouth full of the beverage, so Polly continued, "I 'ave,  dreamt of a little girl, little brown one. With a man holdin' her up whilst they watched the horses galloped by ain't that funny?"
"I guess," Eden breathed out, not thinking much of it.
All she felt was nausea.
Polly reached over, and dragged Eden's cup to where she could see, much to her confusion. Polly took one look and stared up at the younger woman.
"What is it?" Eden's eyes grew wide at the alert look on her face.
"Stand up," Polly said, doing so herself.
Eden whined, "My feet are killin' me."
"Stand up, side on."
She finally stood up, a bit too quickly, so she leaned against the table, Polly seemed very concerned by her fatigue after getting a good look at her.
Eden was caught off guard when the matriarch reached over and grabbed her breast, "Ow!"
"Eden..."
"I'm sensitive," Eden whined.
"How late are you?" Polly wondered, returning to her seat as the pregnant nurses stood there stunned beyond belief.
"A couple of days," she whispered, gulping at the thought, well she hadn't given it much thought to be honest,  "... a week I think."
Polly choked out a laugh, "Eden Dawkins."
"Two weeks," she added, mind running rampant, thinking back to all the times she'd been with Tommy.
It was mostly hate sex, hate on her part, even though it was very pleasurable.
Polly couldn't stop laughing, "You're a nurse."
"I'm aware of my occupation Pol," Eden muttered out of frustration, then quickly apologised,  "Sorry. It could just be stress, not pregnancy."
"You're pregnant," Polly spoke with indifference, despite hoping it would happen. Another great-neice she thought, but decided to keep that fact to herself.
"Stress, just stress," Eden tried to convince herself.
It's not like she was too young, her mum was twenty when she had her, but it was all too soon, she and Tommy only stopped arguing, their best friends were gone, (in different ways of course) and she just was starting to get the hang of things at work and she prayed he wasn't considering enlisting in that godforsaken war.
"You better tell him soon," Polly instead.
Slumping back into her chair, Eden sighed into her hands, "What if he leaves me?"
Polly softly scoffed, "Tommy looks at you like you're the sun to his moon, he'll marry you on the spot."
"I don't want him to marry me out of obligation," Eden rushed out and Polly gawked at her like she was mad.
"How can you be so stupid and yet so smart?" sorta like our Tommy in that aspect, Polly thought.
"Polly!"
"I should get paid for dealin' with a lot of ya," she muttered, rolling her shoulders back and shaking her head. "Tommy loves ya, he'dmarry you if you decided today was the day. That baby inside of you," Eden's gaze dropped to her stomach, "my nephew is a lot of things, but he's a man of his word, you understand?"
Eden meekly nodded, her eyes hadn't moved, almost as if she wanted to see some sort of bump, but she had to be sure, needed to be, but the thought of a baby was oddly comforting, half her, half Tommy... what a good looking baby, Polly noticed the smile tugging at her lips and grinned herself.
Footsteps approached them after the front door slammed shut.
Tommy entered the room and immediately smiled at the sight of his woman, coming over and pressing a chaste kiss to her cheek since her punishment was going strong, no kissing 'round people, not until you're forgiven.
"Well, I must be a ghost," Polly remarked, feigning hurt when her nephew ignored her presence.
"Pol," Tommy quickly greeted her with a forehead kiss, much to her amusement.
"Hi Tom," Eden mustered up a smile, all while sending a pleading look to Polly.
"You alright? Jeremiah said you were sick this mornin'" he said, rather worried, though slightly happy she stopped calling him Thomas.
Eden made a face, "How does —"
"He told your dad, he ran into Charlie and Charlie told me."
"And let me guess, the lads at the Marquis know too?" Eden murmured, irritably, earning a look of confusion from him, making Tommy return to her side,  "And I'm fine, just somethin' I ate."
Tommy eyed her just like he eyed him, the couple tended to communicate through expressions, which drove both families mad.
"You looked pale yesterday —" Polly quietly laughed at the look on Eden's face. Tommy cleared his throat soon after, "All alright, how's your day?"
"Not bad, you?"
Eden didn't see how his eyes nervously flickered to the headline of the paper on the tables but Polly did.
"Not bad."
__
Quietly shutting the front door, Eden rushed into her home, senselessly palming her stomach.
"Mum," she whispered, watching as Celestine prepared their Sunday dinner. She hoped her father in the next room didn't hear a thing, she couldn't deal with him just yet.
"You should've been here —" Celestine dropped her rant the moment she saw the worry on her daughter's face, "what's the matter?"
Eden nervously looked around, "I fucked up."
"Watch your language," Celestine gently cupped her daughter's face, "and what did you do?"
"I'm two weeks late."
"Fuck," Celestine muttered, despite herself, as her gaze dropped to her daughter's stomach, realising where her hand was placed.
"I think... I'm pregnant."

Wolf I think I’m funny so #1 for the fic writer asks, for Dirty Paws, but any song other than Dirty Paws. And also 15 and 16, if you like.
Oh you think you're funny, I'm about to be hilarious.
#1 Share a song that makes you think of [fic title]
King and Lionheart by Of Monsters and Men.
If I have to change bands too, Always Gold by Radical Face for various relationships breaking down while clinging to them
# 18 What’s one of your favorite lines you’ve written in a fic?
Oh god there's so many good lines I've got, be they funny or devastating...
Which is worse, he wonders. The grief at no closure or to drag out the inevitable.
That's technically two lines hmmm
Damn it, that's multiple lines about killing Spiritstar... I'll go with the cheat via two lines.
19. Give us a small teaser from one of your WIPs.
He closes the window a moment, to come sit by Shi-Long, who immediately leans into him, Larry takes the comfort as best he can when they’re both crammed into his small hot dog stand, trying to sell hot dogs, and just get through today.
Larry looks over to Shi-Long’s phone, “Are you rereading my fic?”
“It’s good.”
Larry manages a smile at that at least, brief but manages one. The fanfic is at least easy to write, the words coming easy, when the mere thought of his own original story makes all creativity stop. When all he can think about when he goes to write is the support he no longer has.
They sit in silence a bit, Shi-Long pulls up what looks like a news video of the press conference happening in the park, but the scrawl is in a language Larry can’t place. He squints at it and then asks, “Shi-Long?”
“Yeah writer-boy?”
“Where are you from?”
He gets a warm chuckle in response, sharp eyes flickering to him, “Oh?”
“I… you sent me a message once, in a different language, and I think it’s the same language as that, and I’m a dumbass American, so I don’t know what language it is, so…”
Shi-Long is silent for a moment before he sighs, “I’m Zheng Faian.” At Larry’s blank look he explains, “the Republic of Zheng Fa.” He nods to his phone, “that’s our president speaking.” Something flickers on his face, and Larry thinks that if he asks, Shi-Long would tell him.
He thinks Shi-Long doesn’t want him to ask.

Decided to experiment with a thing kind of like what Classics did with Zodac--make two versions of the character into two separate characters (or in one case, three), and then see what kind of roles, dynamics, and stories come out of it.
Since I'm putting these in my alternate continuity folder, expect some minor redesigns of each character and the ramblings of a madwoman.
Okay, here we go.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aaaand I start off with three King Grayskulls. One's the guy who fought alongside He-Ro and died banishing the Horde. Another is his descendent, a King that used a magic called Havoc to fight the Snake Men, only to fall to corruption and start a line of tyranny throughout the ages in Eternia (which in turn led to Castle Grayskull being magically hidden from the royal family for centuries). And the last one is the Champion that defeated him, and would go on to do more great deeds.
Tumblr media
Here are the two Duncans (plus Andra). One is Man-At-Arms, the other is one of his students. There are quite few technological mishaps that come from the kids, and MAA is doing his best to guide them in their tech endeavors, as well as being a father figure to them like he is with his daughter Teela and others like Prince Adam and Orko.
Pretend that paper has a design on it, lol.
Tumblr media
And other Andra's here too. She's in the Royal Guard with Teela.
Tumblr media
This is totally inspired by that theory of Ram Ma'am being Ram Man's daughter I've seen a few times, and while the CGI show debunks that... shoot, I'm taking that idea and running.
They've got a great relationship, and while Krass'tine is not fond of the palace and its customs, the royal bloodline's track record of tyranny, and worries about her father working for the royals... she is friends with Prince Adam. Hopefully, when he's king, he won't be dragging everyone else into a war.
Tumblr media
Stratos, King of Avion, sees a lot of promise in this young man, who while having been born wingless, still possesses a courageous heart, and once given artificial wings proves to be a talented flyer. Now if he could just temper that ego of his, he could prove to be a worthy successor.
Tumblr media
Frosta has two main concerns: Protecting her kingdom, and protecting her little sister.
Tumblr media
Bow takes this kid under his wing, thinking he's an orphan (which he's not, he ran away from home to join the Great Rebellion).
Tumblr media
Sea Hawk tries his best to be patient with this clown of a cabin boy.
Tumblr media
Wasn't sure what to put as Teela's Sorceress attire, I thought it was pointing to snake, but rereading things, now I'm wondering if I should have done the bird theme...
Oh, well, I think a snake-themed Sorceress is cool, let's move on.
Anyway, this is Teela in the future having chosen her eventual successor, a little orphaned street rat with impressive magic talent.

I want to give different names to the second designs--I might find some ideas in the Character Guide, it lists some alternate names that some characters have in various canons. It's more for the sake of not getting confused about who we're talking about.
Anyway, that's my ramblings for today. I was just drawing other characters and brainstorming ideas between drawing the AU Orko backstory stuff.

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Thanks....
NnnggaAAAA
I hope you understand how exceptionally difficult this question is. But alas, I will try my best.
Ten characters are a lot and I have no way of rating them, so I'm going to talk about my favorite 9 characters, then my favorite of all time.
10. Magnus Bane, from the Shadowhunters series and TV show. I love this man. SO MUCH. He is an immortal warlock with a soft spot for black hair and blue eyes. Those books were some of the first YA I ever read, and Magnus and Alec, his husband, we're the first queer relationship I became obsessed with.
9. Percy Jackson, my king. This man. God how I love this man. Percy was my first favorite character in any media. When I first read PJO, I aped through those books in a week, then the next series, then the next. Today, I've read all those books and own each physical copy. When the TV show comes out, I do NOT apologize for the person I will become.
8. Bryan Stark, from the DRAMA series by Paul Ruditiz. I have never seen someone online talk about these books, and it's a damn shame. Read the first two when I was in 6th grade, and since then I've reread the series more times than I can count. Bryan is just such an entertaining character. The author managed to make him gay without making that all his character is. Such an underrated book.
7. Kaz Brekker. Sigh. Anyone who knows me knows that I have a thing for traumatized men, and this boy fits the bill. He's just. I don't have the words. He is so smart, which automatically makes a person a great character for me, but he's also so mean, which makes me love him more. He cares so much about his love, but has no clue how to display that. Which is my type. I have issues. And of course Six of Crows is one of my all time favorite books.
6. Draco Malfoy. Okay, I know there's some major controversy with anything dealing with Harry Potter stuff, which I get, but that will not stop me from enjoying content about the characters. Now, it's not so much canon Draco that I enjoy as much as it is FANON Draco. His character got smugged horribly in the original material, and I love seeing people's interpretations of him as a character outside of what he was written as. I ship him with Harry, and the amount of fanfiction that I have consumed is ridiculous at this point.
5. Klaus Mikaelson, from the Originals. I watched Vampire Diaries, liked it, but my favorite character from that show was Klaus. There's just something about a man who's willing to rip out the hearts of hundreds of people for his family, for his child, that just hits right in my brain. Love this man with all my heart.
4. Andrew FUCKING Minyard, ladies and gentlemen. Everyone knows he was going to be up here somewhere. Many are likely shocked he's not at number one. A year ago, he would've been. When I read All for the Game, I really was not expecting so much to come out of it. I formed my entire Tumblr personality around it, read millions of words of fanfiction, and wrote MY first fanfiction for the series. I've daydreamed hours and hours of content that will never actually see the light of day, used it in school assignments. And the entire time, I loved one Andrew Minyard. Again, big thing for the traumatized boys, and my God does this poor thing take the cake. He's one of the most interesting, compelling, and agonizing characters I've seen in any fictional media.
3. Laurent De Vere, from the Captive Prince trilogy. Oooof, finally in the top three's. Debating between him and Andrew for this spot was so hard, but ultimately, I feel like the author fleshed Laurent's character out more. This man is so goddamn smart. And I would jump in front of a train for pretty petty bitchy smart sad characters. This series had the misfortune of being read a month before aftg, so it was sadly swept up in the storm that came after it. But now, looking back and remembering the experience of reading those books for the first time, I just keep thinking about how often I had to put my book down, or risk throwing it across the room, that's how insane those books are. I love this sad boy and all his trauma.
2. Bruce Wayne, or Batman. GOD this is hard. But I've been a Batman lover since I was a little girl. This man has some major issues, and a dependency on a fur suit and children decorated in circus colors. He has a weird queer-coded relationship with a killer clown. His character shifts so much that between one comic issue and the next I can go from wanting to strangle him to wanting to hug him tight and never let go. I don't think I could fix him, and I don't think there's much making him worse, but maybe I could get him into therapy???
1. Jason. Todd. The Red Hood. My baby, my child, the love of my life. Sigh. First place was never a question for me; even growing up with Batman, Jason was a more recent discovery and one I'm thankful for every day. This boy was sold to a mass murderer clown by his mother, beaten near death with a crowbar, and blown to bits. He was brought back, only to find out that his adopted dad not only didn't avenge him but changed absolutely nothing, putting another kid in the exact same spot he was in. Oh yeah, and being brought back required a trip into a nasty green pit that screwed up his head. And now, video games are making him look 40, comic writers KEEP killing him, no one can decide what his whole thing is supposed to be, and they gave him a FUCKING CROWBAR TO PATROL GOTHAM WITH. WHAT THE FUCK. So yeah, Jason needs some love.
And that's ten of my favorite characters in no particular order. As I'm finishing this, I'm thinking of like 20 other characters who could've gone on this list, but I'm happy with this for now.
Thank for the ask!

And so far, what’s happened is that the book in question has either lived up to my memory of it, or (as in the case of the previous two books, but especially in the case of the Deception of the Emerald Ring) failed to live up to that experience. But in the case of this book, I’m going to have to say that my current experience of it actually exceeds my previous experience. I remember being entertained by Charlotte and Robert’s romance, but not liking it as much as Letty and Geoffrey’s. Now, though, I think I might actually like Charlotte and Robert’s romance more than Letty and Geoffrey’s, mostly because I thoroughly enjoyed ups and downs of their dynamic - in particular, the way Charlotte deals with her disillusionment regarding Robert, and how they resolve that in the end. It was clearly painful, but I really enjoyed how Charlotte negotiated that pain and came out all the stronger for it at the end. As for Robert, I found him interesting because he was so different from the previous four male leads. The way he thinks of the nobility and their habits and pursuits are very different from the way Richard, Miles, Geoffrey, and Lord Vaughn think about it, and it was really rather refreshing to get another perspective on that whole thing. His own concerns regarding the relationship he has with his family and his title are also interesting to read about, mostly because of how conflicted he is about both. Speaking of family, I realize that in today’s online climate, the whole thing about Robert and Charlotte being cousins may lead to some rather...LOUD displays of scandalized horror from certain quarters. So to make things clear: it’s laid out in the first chapter that Charlotte and Robert are VERY distantly related, so their romance is rather like two people from a small town occupied by a handful of families getting together and settling down. Secondly, such marriages were common amongst the nobility from many cultures around the world as a means of consolidating and holding on to money, property, and power. Hell, in many cases the consanguinity would be MUCH closer than the very distant relationship Charlotte and Robert have, with first cousins oftentimes being viewed as acceptable for such marriages. It might not be right, but the fact remains that such marriages were practiced in the past, they were practiced during the Regency, and continue to be practiced today. (If you’re interested in how such marriages can go awry across the generations, then look into the Habsburgs, whose family tree - and the consequent health concerns - make for morbidly fascinating reading.) Additionally, this book dips into something that not of novels set during the Regency look at: King George II’s mental health. I won’t get into that too much because of spoilers, but suffice to say that there’s a reason why this specific period in time is so often called the “Regency”, and George II’s mental health had much to do with it. This novel also gives readers a glimpse into how mental health conditions were treated, and it puts into perspective just how VERY far we’ve come in the 21st century when it comes to mental health treatment. Makes me damn thankful too. So overall, this reread was a lovely ride - one that I think is better than the previous novels thus far, and ranks higher than Deception of the Emerald Ring, which was my favorite up until this point. Here’s to hoping the next one’s not so bad - though I’m also setting my expectations low because it takes place in British-occupied India. Rating: five jasmine flowers
