I need to rant about Ivan guys guys I neeed to rant about Ivan (<--- keeps trying to write fics of him but Never finishes him) like God this man is so gay and so in love it genuinely hurts it Hurts and I am Injured by it and the imagrey is Sooo Good (and Yes this is probably me just parroting stuff Everyone has already said before but shut up it's my turn now!! (aka please I've been holding in these thoughts for Months now I must let them out of their cage before one of them Dies)) [Edit I am Not fucking proofreading this I spent 2 hours on it if there is a mistake you Imagined it </3]

Just like,

You can see it in the way he sees the stars in Till. His own hopes for freedom and the only real light in this world that he lost sight of in Till. He is the hope and wish for freedom that he has shut away and repressed and it makes him fall So Hard

Or how you only really see that red in his eyes (after. Almost Dying) when he's with or singing/thinking about how Till has Inspired him, like a fire has been lit inside him. A fire lit in the darkness. . hmm...

even at the end of the song, where he knows full well that he absolutely Crushed his opponent and also knows full well that Till is his next one. I'm sick. I'm so sick.

Or like. When he frees Till and everything is just Engulfed in that red now. How Till has that same fire in his eyes, he and Ivan are on the same page now. They see that same hope for freedom and they both share it. They're running towards the light (like the sky's lighter there, more on that in a sec), hell, the corners of the right side of the screen are literally tinted in LIGHT GREEN. Till's color. God dammit the whole scene is tinted in red and green. They are literally Complementary Colors. I'mmm soooooooo (God these scenes are soo pretty too I was genuinely Stunned when I first saw this)

DID YOU EVEN NOTICE I ONLY NOTICED NOW the Stars are fucking green. You can see it better in some of the Later Images but they are Literally Green because Ivan sees the stars in Till and uuuughsdfbshb

OR LIKE WHEN TILL TURNS BACK?? AND. And that red is no longer in his eyes and before The Realization hits Ivan his eyes are just Glowing with red. Because he was just Filled with that hope. Freedom was, potentially, Right There

Did you guys even notice in that like. 5 frames in the half-second animation of Till turning away he's totally engulfed in his shade of green. Like of Course. That's such a Till thing to do because of Course he's running back he never actually liked Ivan that way in the first place.

And also the lighting of the sky Flips. Because the light has always been with Till. And Ivan's left in the darkness. In the. Haha. Ha. Black Sorrow. Aha *sits down cries*

And Again with this mf's stupid eyes how they revert to just black because that hope's been stripped away again, how it's even reflected in his present self singing as he reminisces on it. Fucking. Ivan's Expression when Till runs away.T here's so fucking much like the irony. Like did he even see Till hesitate or did he just see him turn and run away.

Like the irony that the guy who's always breaking the rules and fighting and defying and clearly hating living in a world like this won't run away with him, who has always been passive and obeying the rules and just accepting captivity and has been repressing his desire for freedom is so Bitter and Awful but also he always Knew this would happen what the Hell was he thinking this was such a stupid idea like

this man gets No Breaks No Breaks Ever oh yeah btw they're facing off against each other in a literal Death Match. That they might've had a Chance of avoiding if they ran away. Ahah. Hh *sob*

Also this art brings me so much Joy as much as it hurts me on a visceral level like. Ivan Always has his eyes on Till but it goes from a fond smile. Like So Fond flat out lovestruck affectionate gaze because he loves this man and loves spending time with him to a grimace once they're on stage. How Till never really changes or really Has Changed, and that's why Ivan loves him as much as he is resentful towards him. How that's what brought them here, to the stage. How Ivan changed for Till and Because of Till but still Till is like a god damn immovable object with how he stubbornly sticks to his ways. There's such resentment but isn't he himself also stubborn for always sticking to Till anyways? Hell, he's singing all about him in Round 3 and loses control over his own emotions and expressions during it I'mmm Guhhh

Also the first image is titled Observation while the second one is titled Decision(? I think). Like mf What are you deciding. What happened Last Time you decided to do something I'm going to punt you into the next planet

Speaking of observing,

Just. How Ivan's Always Observing. I saw one person point out he's like a background character and it's like he sees himself as one too. He is a passive observer in his Own Life. How he watches all the other children in Anakt garden play. How his childhood leading him to Anakt Garden just kind of. Happens around him while he watches indifferently.

How he's always trailing behind Till. Or how he tends to just. Observe quietly and is portrayed as such.

Not to mention how he doesn't appear in the memories of Anyone else's rounds, not even Till's, even when he literally (temporarily) freed him from the city. He doesn't even appear At All in Luka's round even though we get a clear shot of Till getting his hopes and dreams shattered (though it Does parallel another shot of him from Round 2)

And then the One Times he tries to take action. Or start something. It gets rejected and he's resigned to just. Trailing behind again. Because of Course he'll always follow after Till. And of Course he's fucking bitter about it and bitter about himself because he Knew this would happen and Till is Always looking at someone else and that Never Changes but. He just thought for a moment that he could change something. Man.

Oh I forgot to talk about the competitions themselves huh? Wellll, (and I'll Attempt to keep it brief because I've been writing this post for Much too long but)

Till spends his first round singing completely devotedly to Mizi. Hell, his song wasn't even in the program, it's likely- no, almost definitely something he wrote entirely for her, and Ivan has no part in it, just watches bitterly as he passes out after his, er, stunt at the end

And continues to be passed out for almost the entirety of Ivan's song

Oh but he woke up for the emotional/musical climax at least, going over Ivan's most important memory of them together, that's cool at least right?! Surely Till felt something from that

Maybe they can talk something out, or at least acknowledge their relationship in Some way. Maybe Ivan could at least be seen by Till-

Aaand Till's Actual love interest Supposedly gets shot and now he probably thinks she's dead. His attention is turned to her once again, like it's always been from the start. He never really changes huh?

Better luck next time Ivan--

Just. This mf Never Wins and it makes me Laugh as much as it makes me So Sad

Gets hopes and dreams and future crushed by aliens (standard stuff). Sold off in an auction. Put in prestigious singing school and up to that point he hasn't really cared about Anything and has simply been going through the motions.

Meets boy that basically embodies the freedom and hope he used to have. Falls badly in love. Boy loves someone else. Tries to free him and give him the thing he'd surely want most. Rejected. Back to school you go loser.

Oh btw this school is to train you for a competition to the death. Btw you're facing off against that boy you love in the semi-finals of said death competition. And you might kill him or he'll kill you. Because you didn't run away when you had the chance.

Also he didn't sing or think about you at all during his round. In fact I'm pretty sure he wrote a whole ass song that wasn't even registered in the Alien Queue or whatever for someone else. Also he probably has hardly looked at you. Also he was unconscious for almost the entirety of your song. Except for the part where you lost control of your emotions.

Oh but that doesn't matter now because now he thinks the person He likes was just killed. So he's kiiinda gonna be distracted by that. And that might fuck up your round with him. Sorry man

This was Originally a rant about how much I love Black Sorrow's imagery and the portrayal of Ivan's love because this man clearly has Complex Emotions and then Kinda derailed into me just ranting about how many L's he's being handed before getting the executioner's blade. Uhhhhh oops. Congrats on sticking to the end though?

I just love Ivan very much. He is So Bitter and so Horribly In Love and looks up to and is inspired by Till So Much and I wish people explored him on a deeper level/more personally.

I wish I saw more deep looks at Ivan/Till, there's clearly Complicated Things going on there. Hell, we don't even know what Till's pov on the whole thing is aside from that One scene of him hesitating before running away from Ivan. As much as I love fluffy interpretations of them, I (did I mention that I'm an angst addict btw. Could You Tell) wish all their Complexities could be acknowledged. Like how Ivan Clearly puts Till on such a spotlight and it is Such a downfall for him through and through and he Kinda knows it but also What Else does he Have and he really looks up to him Sooo Much (just. Look at them in that official art of them in Anakt Garden !!!) and deep down just wants to run away from this horrible place and wants to run with Till, the Light of his life the fire in the darkness the fucking stars the universe his black sorrow just. Oh My God I need to end this post already I was supposed to be studying but spent those 2 hours Writing instead

But anyways yeah uuhhh long story short? This guy is a gay loser. He tries to look sooo cool and smooth but he is suuuch a gay lovestruck loser and his rose tinted glasses are so thick he can't see shit (I'm pretty sure I quoted that from something (but also no genuinely when I first got into alnst after just watching the first 3 rounds videos and saw Ivan in official art I was So Surprised like "Oh he's actually That kind of mf that tries to look Cool and Hot but is actually just Pathetic and Sad and Gay I thought he was Just Sad and Gay")) he's probably also touchstarved as hell idk and his love is doomed by the narrative (unless Hyuna saves his and Till's asses. Buuut we'll see </333)

I'm starting out with some of my favorite parts before a mini rant bc, yeah! (This is nowhere near all of my favorite parts, but there's just so much it'd take me hours to compile.

Immediately starting with a Harlan Ellison moment was amazing

The "world's most fuckable twink" line absolutely took me out, but then him going into the explanation about plagiarism being disrespectful right after was like two back to back gut punches, in the best way. Because he was so fucking right about it.

The grammar mistakes he points out are so funny

Him overlaying Brian Deer's documentary over Blair's video was also great.

Him calling Blair out for being lazy and honestly a shitty person was also great.

Rant time :)

My mini rant is just about how fucking stomach churning the second half is. Like, let me tell you, I watched that entire section, mouth agape, in shock and horror. I can bearly fathom how lazy, pathetic, and malicious you'd have to be to pull some of the shit he (Somerton) did. (The first half stuff was insanely bad too don't get me wrong)

Hbomberguy did an amazing job showing the visual of how many parts of the queer horror video were plagiarized, I legitimately gasped when the highlighted portions were shown.

Every time you think he can't get any lower, he does. It's baffling, and honestly, I wish I could say more about how mad this makes me, but I'm so mad and tired that I can't think of words so mini rant over, I suppose.

But also, sorry, this is one thing I feel like no one is mentioning, and it's driving me insane. I also watched Todd in the Shadows video (which is also really good btw) and at least three parts of the video debunk lies Somerton said about nazis, the main ones being, (and I'm taking the titles from the yt video so you can find these in the time stamps)

1. The SS was "teeming with homosexuals"

2. The hitler youth was also run by homosexuals

3. The nazis created our current body standards.

In the three mentioned above, Somerton's lies are genuinely just him writing gay fan fic about nazi Germany (at least that's how I felt about what he was speaking and wording things) and it's fucking disgusting. He says things in such a skin crawling way it makes me sick.

And no one seems to be talking about it or how fucking weird it is, but hey, maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed my mini rant and my favorite parts. Sorry it's all kinda messy.

AKIKASA where they're both pining on each other but Tsukasa is dense and Akito is in denial like why of all people i have a crush on him?? what the fuck aint no way in hell. but tsukasa's love language is touch and he likes to hug an unexpecting Akito and at first Akito would freeze up but slowly he started hesitantly hugs back and hides his face in Tsukasa's neck to hide his flaming red face...

RUITOYA where Toya for some reason always crosses path with his eccentric yet nice senpai for some reason and always felt his cheeks heating up when he's around Rui and Rui who knows he has a crush on Toya and knows Toya has a crush on him but decided not to say anything just because he loves seeing Toya all flustered. where Toya would often visit Rui on the rooftop to watch him work on his latest invention, and they would talk or stay in a comfortable silence. where Toya would smile brightly and Rui could only watch with widened eyes as he wishes that one day he can call Toya his.

MIZUAN where they always hang out after school either going clothes shopping or to the arcade, and An always reassuring Mizuki when she's insecure, using her Students Committee benefits to defend Mizuki from her bullies and trading her ribbon with Mizuki's tie to make her feel better. and Mizuki is slowly growing a crush on this determined and kind-hearted girl and An's already small crush on Mizuki grew as time passes. where when something bad happens to either of them, seeing the other would instantly make their days better, if just a bit.

ENAIRI where they have a crush on each other since long ago and they're basically the childhood friends to lovers troop. where Airi would always compliments Ena's drawings and Ena always goes to Airi's concerts. and everytime they touch each other they started blushing madly to the point that even Akito kept pushing her sister to confess. where when they're together it's just them hanging out and then half way both of them realized "wait oh god i'm hanging out with my crush fuck-" and their faces would turn as red as tomatoes.

ICHISHIHO where Ichika slowly fell first and Shiho fell harder. where they spend hours after classes to play their guitar and bass and tuning it, or syncing with each other, or they discuss what songs to sing next for their concerts. where Ichika would softly hum while playing his guitar and Shiho would watch silently in awe, not believing his eyes bc why is his friend so fuckin handsome and oh god he's heart is beating fast-

HONAKANA where it's just- so domestic. where Honami instead of usually once a week and for work now went to Kanade's home at every chances she got and its not for work anymore, bringing him homemade apple pies and they would spend hours just enjoying each other's presence over tea and pies. where Kanade would show Honami some of his songs that he's working on, where Honami would eventually show Kanade some of her songs and they would now make songs together. where Honami staying over is now a normal thing, where Kanade finally starts going out more just to meet up with Honami who'll show him some of the best places for apple pies and CD records.

...and Nene Kusanagi, who has to put up with all of their slow-burn and pining shits. because after all, the reason they all kissed in the end, is because HE PLAYS MATCH MAKER FOR ALL OF THEM-

Just A Minor Crisis…

Well, I woke up today and had the genius idea of Steve sharing in my crisis. Bon Appétit! Warning: a brief mental breakdown and some mentions of depression

Steve was having a midlife crisis. Honestly, it was a long time coming. Over the past three years or so of dealing with the Upside Down and all of its drama, Steve had only broken down like this one time before. It had been right after the events of Starcourt and losing Hopper. He’s fallen into a weeks-long depression that was only appeased by Robin pulling him out of bed to find a new job where they could work together. There may have been a brief sexuality crisis a few weeks after Spring Break too when Steve had seen Eddie with his hair in a bun but that was neither here nor there.

In the past 24 hours, he’d gotten a tattoo that he was hiding from his friends, quit his job, and made out with a random guy at a gay club in Indy. His life was going off the rails and he didn’t know what to do about that. He needed the money from work to be able to move out of his parent’s oppressive house, probably sooner rather than later. And while the spontaneous tattoo and random making out wasn’t a death sentence, it certainly wouldn’t make things easier on him in the future especially if his parents or friends caught wind of it.

He wanted to ask for help, so someone could assist him in not flying off the edge without a parachute, but he didn’t want the questions that were sure to accompany it. So, he suffered alone for the first week.

He practically dropped off the face of the earth, just wallowing in bed at home with his curtains drawn and doors locked. No one was getting through his defenses, not if he could help it. One thing he neglected to consider though was how savvy his friends were. On day eight of becoming a hermit, Eddie and Robin showed up in his room and yanked the comfy covers off of him.

“C’mon man, get out of bed. What’s going on? We haven’t seen you in like a week,” Eddie said with concern coating his voice.

“Are you okay, Dingus? Keith said you quit over the phone and no one has heard from you since! Do you know how worried we’ve been? We didn’t even think you were in town because your car isn’t in the driveway otherwise we would’ve broken in sooner!” Robin ranted, poking at his shoulder to get his attention.

“How did you get in?” Steve whispered, not having enough energy to speak any louder.

“I picked your lock. It was ridiculously easy by the way, almost concerningly. You might want to get that checked out. Now, why are you avoiding everyone?” Eddie asked him.

Steve didn’t have the energy to argue with them or field their concern so he just groaned and rolled over. Stupidly, he forgot about the new tattoo on his forearm that was exposed when he flipped.

“Dude, did you get new ink? I never thought I’d see the day that Steve Harrington would get a tattoo. What the hell?” Steve heard a smacking noise and a whimper of pain before he felt Robin climb in his bed to curl up with him.

“Steve? Please talk to me. Is this another depressive episode? It’s okay if it is but please don’t shut me out. We’re really worried about you. The tattoo looks great by the way! It looks just like your real bat!”

Steve’s tattoo was an image of his nail-bat on the outside of his right forearm. He’d wanted to get something spontaneous but still meaningful and there was nothing more meaningful than protecting the kids that have looked up to him for years. The pain of getting the tattoo was addicting too, he was already planning more despite the suffocating depression threatening to choke him.

“Yeah?” Steve cleared his throat harshly as he tried to speak after his days-long silence. “You like it?”

Robin nodded exuberantly while Eddie took a seat at the edge of the bed. “It’s totally metal, dude! It makes you look even more handsome, Stevie.”

When his eyes widened, Eddie backtracked. “Not that you weren’t handsome before! You were pretty, still are pretty! I just really like tattoos and it like, it adds to your prettiness! Because you’re pretty!”

Steve watched him flounder until eventually, Eddie cut himself off with an aggrieved hand to his mouth. “Thanks, Eds.”

He gave him a stilted nod before Robin took pity on him and pulled Steve’s attention away from Eddie’s reddening cheeks. “So are you having an episode? We can go downstairs to cuddle and watch movies. Munson and I took time off work for a couple of days to spend time with you.”

Steve felt tears spring to his eyes but nodded nonetheless. “That would be great. I missed you guys and I’m sorry I pulled away, it’s just-”

“No apologies necessary, Stevie. We’re here now and we can help you out. Now c’mon, I want to judge your movie selection,” Eddie said, offering him a hand out of bed.

They would deal with Steve’s coping skills and shaky mental health later. The rest of their night was spent watching crappy movies, eating junk food, and cuddling with each other. If Robin saw Eddie and Steve holding hands, well, that was no one’s business but her own.

ATLAS PARADOX RAMBLING

dude this book. i need to talk. about it. im going insane.

everyone who hasn't read it, PLEASE DO!!! it's a dark academia book about a bunch of gay silly magic people that join a society and try to kill each other. there's time travel, a big ass polycule, aesthetic scenes, the prettiest writing style in the world, science, philosophy, and fucked family. (opposite of found family).

(extremely chaotic unorganized long rant below, with spoilers. click at your own risk)

FIRST OF ALL WHY WAS THIS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE FIRST ONE?!!?!?

i had to power through the first one, it felt long, and unnecessary and like trekking through a JUNGLE with the thickest and most intricate ecosystem that i had to peel back and unravel for hours and hours. only to like move the plot by an inch.

BUT THIS. olivie blake found her footing because this was so good. i am aware the reviews hate on this book and some people don't like it, but personally i adore it and it's really well written.

CHARACTERS

bro they all had such wonderful voices, like they were distinct and unique from each other but not drastically, noticeably different I NEED TO LEARN FROM THIS. six of crows and the atlas six do multi povs so well <3 its like this book was made for me, each character was perfect and incredible and gay and silly and-

reina. love of my life. i look forward to all her povs because the plants are so silly and she's the best character. i said it. she's canon asexual now too YEES. i needed more of her because she was barely in the first one, and they DELIVERED. the juicy plot with her 'god complex' (ily callum) and her feelings getting hurt and learning she actually is lonely and wants friends? she's so wanda maximoff. next book better have her opening up and learning to love people or i riot (and also her killing people and being the badass she is)

parisa always my fave too, i do wish her character wasn't always talking about sex or romance, there were some great moments in this book where she showed off her telepathy powers (the prince in the tower!!) it was awesome. i'm glad they acknowledged that side of her with reina, (oh my god i ship them so much wait till i rant about them-) but dude i still HATE DALTON. SO MUCH. OH MY GOD. every time it's her pov i dread seeing dalton, i wish she could give that up. generic white men should die.

CALLUM. whatever turned him from complex, daunting, and a psychopath last book to janus from sanders sides this book- beautiful choice. he's literally the one sassy wine-sipping gay aunt that feels nothing and everything at once, also extremely mentally ill and depressed. he's SO FUNNY. his povs are fucking hilarious to read, and he quickly became one of my faves bc of how complex he is. i'm not smart enough to decipher and psychoanalyze him but god i LOVE CHARACTERS LIKE THIS.

i don't know what happened but nico is literally one of my faves now too, he's so silly and sweet and kind and i loved his relationships with everyone this book. like him trying to murder tristan in multiple different ways oml. he's my bbg. tristan was hit or miss for me, i did find him interesting but he's not my favourite. doesn't mean i hate him, he's so very british, i feel it radiating off the page. libby my queen my icon, her dream povs were so trippy i loved it- so so realistic to a real dream, that was the most surprising and unique part. also my bisexual queen seducing belen??

i did not like ezra and atlas was a little iffy here and there but tbh the cast was so well rounded and interesting and unique but paralleled each other so well?? THE RELATIONSHIPS. I DONT THINK ANY BOOK HAS THIS INTRICATE WEB-LIKE RELATIONSHIPS WITH EACH OTHER. they're one big polycule.

RELATIONSHIPS

nico and libby <3 i love them so much as siblings/queerplatonic partners. i don't ship them romantically, because i LOVE how they subverted the eye-rolling predictable ' YA academic rivals enemies to lovers' trope. when i started TAS, i immediately thought they were gonna get together and assumed the worst. but no, they still had the banter and importance in their relationship but without the romance? instead both of them were gay af. it's beautiful. i love subverting tropes so much. they're each other's 'other half' and they're hilarious together.

NICO AND TRISTAN. they were such a highlight this book, it was unexpected but so funny. nico trying to murder tristan and their little talks because 'they're not friends...just coworkers' yeah right, the best friendships start with creatively murdering each other. tristan being droll and chill af, and then nico bouncing off the walls my adhd king.

reina and nico broke me?? like that one chapter where they sparred and caught up with each other and reina was guarding her hurt feelings. DUDE THAT KILLED ME. made me stare at the ceiling for a good minute. their friendship is everything to me, they contrast each other so well. she deserves to be treated better- when they had that projection chapter and she saw that nico downplayed her skills...like she was good, but not good enough for him to care about her. AGGHGH.

now for the actual plot. this book has so many interesting subjects and philosophies and debates i'm not smart enough for this. but past all the aesthetic glamour, it's science, time travel, dreams, multiverses, fate, reality, and the complexities of the human mind. and my god it's fascinating as fuck.

do i have any idea what they do in this society?? NO. am i entertained? YES. especially that whole explosion paradox to bring libby back to the future. the whole powering the connections via aurora borealis? the whole debate about being gods? i love it. i love it.

I have very correct and cool thoughts on a YouTuber au that won’t leave my head so here they are:

Kitty is the first to start a channel. She’s grown up watching youtube and thinks it’s just wonderful, so she wants in. She starts just doing vlog stuff but eventually moves on to reviewing books which really gets popular. She’s this very happy chirpy girl who favours romance and erotica, who occasionally turns up out of the blue with a fucking like, Thomas Hardy novel, and will come out with random and poignant takes on what she’s reading. The people love her, as they should,

In my au, they’re (nearly) all friends to begin with, so once Kitty starts doing well, she tries to encourage Pat to get involved (she just really thinks he has the personality for it, and it'd be something to distract him from the divorce). He has four separate channels (he likes to keep things organised of course), one that’s more for Daley than anything, just short simple videos going through things he’ll need to learn growing up like how to fix a lightbulb, a flat tire, how to cook a few simple meals etc. He has a 'vlog' channel (it's a bird-watching diary, it is just videos of all the cool birds he's seen). His most popular, the club room (or something in that vein), is just him and his weird group of friends meeting up to fuck around for half an hour and talk about shows, movies, music and clothes they like and dislike for 20mins or so. Finally, he has a channel just for him to talk about those things in more detail.

Robin's channel is all about space, space facts, sci-fi etc. He will also sometimes do drunken videos where he debunks people's dumb conspiracies, and as he has an interest in prehistoric history, will film himself going to prehistoric sites and giving some commentary.

The Captain is a university professor who's infamous on his campus for going off on long rants during his lectures. He keeps getting complaints and Kitty casually suggests he starts a channel and rants there instead. He reluctantly gives in. He gets popular of course, and goes on from ranting about just about history/historians to everything.

People can't work out if he's gay or just a very determined ally until like, five years down the line when his fiance Pat walks in during a charity livestream to give him a cuppa.

Mary wouldn't have a channel but would be the cameraman/editor for some of the gang, Fanny wouldn't have a channel either, nor Humphrey (who's always running late and rarely makes it to the club sessions in time, but in return shows up on Kitty’s channel a fair bit to talk books).

Disgraced former MP Julian Fawcett would absolutely not be allowed to have a channel or appear on anyone's channel. He has to sit behind the camera at every club meeting and talk quietly, much to his chagrin.

Now, Alison and Mike. Either Mike would have a series of abandoned channels, or it'd be the ghost thing. I made a post a year or two back about them having a ghost hunter channel where they go around supposedly haunted places to see if they’re actually haunted with Alison being the annoyed ghost seer and Mike the enthusiastic believer, and yeah. I think it'd be kinda funny if this was just, casually something they both did, that in this otherwise normal world ghosts are canonically real, and that the Coopers bumped into the others while on a tour of an ‘abandoned haunted house’ that is actually just the manor that Pat and the others film their ghost meetings in.

I have thoughts and questions

Jumping for fucking joy when Nancy slapped Mr Daniels and said “she is a child” LIKE YES QUEEN

Nancy this episode slayed so much like from assaulting predators to supporting the gays in the span of less than an hour you go girl

Speaking of supporting the gays the coming out scene was so amazing and it Hurt

Frenchie and Betty Rizzo were so great this episode and the siblings energy with Jane and Gil was unmatched

Watching Gil with another girl hurt but like I get it so much

If they do get another season I am excited to see how the whole Pink Ladies date T-Birds thing comes around cause like rn Hazel and Cynthia are both dating non T-Birds (not to mention Hazel’s dating a soc)

I think we can all agree on one thing and it’s that the girl from Lydia’s summer scout or whatever is gonna catch these hands

Jane Nancy and Cynthia were so real in the first song like yeah get his ass

Susan I was rooting for you we were all rooting for you

Buddy finally made the right choice and now he’s a fucking homeless high school dropout-

Somebody give this poor boy a break

The Zuko name drop at the end fucking floored me

I need to know what happened between Zuko (I’m assuming Danny’s older brother?) and Jane to make her this mad

Also btw the whole writing it down thing for the coming out scene was cute and all but I would really like to know what Nancy wrote on the paper

Also something Nancy said in that scene caught my eye so imma just rant for a bit

In the part where Nancy’s trying to guess what’s making Cynthia upset she’s says something like “did you talk to your mom?” Which brings up two questions for me

What happened with Cynthia’s mom that would make Cynthia upset if they talked (from what we see of the scenes at Cynthia’s place it seems like she’s doesn’t live with them but she’s obviously not dead so something happened there$

How does Nancy know about whatever happened between Cynthia and her mom (basically like did she hear it through town gossip, is it like common knowledge for the town, or did Cynthia tell her in which case I wanna see that scene)

Also another thing that stood out to me (because she is my favorite character) was that in the church Cynthia kept doing the like 🙏 peace be with you thing and yeah it could’ve just been her being nervous and stuff but she also does the like touch cross thing (idk what it’s called) when Jane is talking to Mr. Daniels as almost like a subconscious thing so I’m wondering if that’s possibly a thing or if I’m just grasping at straws for a Cynthia backstory

I’m really hoping if we get a season two that they flesh out Olivia Nancy and Cynthia’s backstories cuz like we know Jane’s pretty much and we get little snippets of the other three but nothing really solid

Idk kinda like the T-Birds episode except with the girls

Anyways sorry for rambling (and spending like half the time talking about Cynthia) but yeah that’s it

I’ve only had time to watch the first so far but boy. yeah. that sure was an episode

side note I AM SO MAD ABOUT THE EARLY STREAMING. doctor who should be watched on a saturday night as god intended!!! its such bullshit from disney that doesn’t work at ALL bc it drops in the afternoon US time but then brits aren’t watching it til 18 hours later. I hate that rtd justified it. and i HATE that there are only 8 episodes. where are my fillers and two parters!! okay rant over 😂

honestly it was such a doctor who episode. trauma dumping about gallifrey, innocent little companion totally in awe of the tardis who then 5 mins later is somehow smarter and braver than the doctor, lore that doesn’t make any sense, bad and/or unsettling special effects, heavy handed leftie politics, Gay.

I’m really intrigued by the ruby+parents plot, especially the creepy hand reaching out to fifteen in that memory. but other than that the plot was meh.

what bothered me though was ruby’s character and how she works with fifteen. I don’t get what her personality is other than young and innocent and gutsy and enthusiastic and Mysterious. there wasn’t anything about her that seemed real, and there wasn’t anything to bounce off of the doctor. they just have no chemistry - they don’t bring anything out in each other or seem to authentically connect. there’s soooo much that’s interesting about fifteen and I feel like I learnt nothing

but my dash says ep 2 is a lot better so I’ll get back to you when I’ve watched that one 🙃

I just saw Barbie and that's your problem now (spoilers)

I just saw Barbie and bloody hell how did this movie ever get approved by Mattel (positive)

SPOILERS. LOOK AWAY IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS. KEEP SCROLLING IF YOU WISH FOR THIS MOVIE TO REMAIN UNSPOILED.

For contex, "Barbie" singular refers to margot robbie, the main character. "barbies" plural refers to background/side characters. I understand why this movie broke ryan gosling.

Ok play by play:

I walk into the theatre, popcorn in hand. The isles are filled with pink. I am wearing pink. the lights dim. Its showtime

Primitive children play with primitive dolls. barbie appears. i wonder if David Attenborough directed this part of the movie

Present day barbie. Stuff from the trailers. hi barbie hi barbie hi barbie. Oh wait the song is the narrator that kinda cool

5 minutes in and its Trailers trailers trailers. I've seen maybe 5 lines of non-trailer dialogue

The "beach you off" joke goes right over my head. I still don't know if there was a joke there

dance time. holy shit the mood of summer (do you ever think about dying) happend real fast. Nice save Barbie

sour milk and flat feet

jesus christ we're at weird barbie's already. this is the plot I know from the trailers but we still have like an hour and 20 minutes left

barbie has meditation time and discovers the girl

ken takes a walk and discovers that the world is run by men

barbie and ken go to school. Barbie gets burned roasted eviscerated by sara (the girl whos been playing with her) and runs away crying. Ken discovers the patriarchy

Barbie gets discovered by mattel. Barbie gets chased through mattel HQ

The girl and her mom save barbie and go back to barbie land. it was actually the mom who played with barbie and made her because she was sad about her daughter being a dicky teenager.

ken has taken over barbie land

ken has instated the patriarchy into barbie land. the barbies are brainwashed into being mindless servants. the dreamhouses are now for the kens.

Barbie has a breakdown. Mom daughter go to leave barbie land

Barbie is rescued by weird barbie and taken to her house, the base of a resistance??? other brainwashed barbies are there. Weird barbie now wears grenades. Discontinued barbies and weird barbies are trying to unbrainwash brainwashed barbies. It is not working. Barbie is still having a breakdown.

Gay as hell ken exists

Mom and daughter are back. Barbie cries about how she isnt pretty and "stereotypical barbie" anymore. The air is thick and uncomfortable. The narrator announces that margot robbie was not the right person to deliver that line. tension dissolved (for now)

Mom goes into long and heartfelt rant about the patriarchy and expectations of women and jesus christ is rocked me to my core it was like every feminist tumblr post compiled into the perfect monologue about the struggles of being a woman in the best way possible. I can feel the uncomfortable men in the room. I can also feel the men in the room who are sad for women. you could hear a pin drop. The barbies become unbrainwashed as they realize the patriarchy sucks. Barbie is back.

Barbie and friends have mom give more (unheard ;-;) speeches and unbrainwash the other barbies in a way that calls out how men view women and sexist media tropes.

Holly shit is ken the villain of this movie

Barbies turn kens against each other so they forget about voting to change the constitution. Yes.

Kens have a war over barbies. They do not have weapons. Ryan gosling sings a power ballad. The kens unite.

The kens confront the barbies. President barbie drops a motherfucker bomb censored with a mattel logo. The crowd once again goes wild. Some of us go feral. I went feral.

Lost of deep conversations about the patchirarchy and sexisim and beuty standards and holly shit I though this was going to be a kids film but its almost unhinged kiss me greta gerwig

A Barbie and ken romance is not the answer for barbie or ken. Ken cannot compute this. A Barbie and ken romance is not the answer for Barbie or ken. Ken slightly computes this.

Barbie tells ken that he's his own person and he is not defined by his girlfriend or the patriarchy or beach (his job. no there is not context). cough cough this is the movie addressing toxic masculinity and how the patriarchy harms men

Barbie does not know her ending. Barbie meets Ruth Mattel. Ruth mattel is in trouble with the IRS for committing tax evasion. deep emotional scene. barbie learns sees what it means to be human. that billie eyelash song plays. Humans only have one ending, ideas live forever. Barbie "wants to be part of the people who make ideas, not the idea"

Barbie is in a car. Beige suit. Pink Birkenstocks. The mom and the girl wish her good luck. They will be here when she's done. Barbie walks into an office building.

"name"

"handler comma Barbra" (context required but its meaningful and basically barbies human name)

"I'm here to see my gynecologist"

The end. The crowd goes feral. nobody moves as we wonder what the fuck just happened. We cheer.

Being the true Margot Robbie Stan that I am, I rise from my seat and think "what a ride"

I exit the theatre, grinning ear to ear. Perplexed. But grinning ear to ear. I do not stop grinning for a long time.

As I exit the theatre, me and my fellow movie-goers look at each other with a sense of fear, happiness, and that feeling when you wake up from a fever dream. I doubt I will sleep tonight as my brain processes this movie. I still don't really know what happened to Barbie. I'm perfectly ok with that.

Overall the trailers greatly mislead people and this movie was a wild feminist, feminist, feminist ride in the most fantabulous way possible. It touches on most social issues, makes fucking hilarious jokes, Barbie has several breakdowns and it truly feels like a giant "fuck you" to the patriarchy with Mattel's branding. Written by women, directed by women, produced by women. its perfect. It's not the most sophisticated piece of feminist media but its pretty fucking close and definitely the best mainstream one.

Hating the Barbie movie should replace hating cats as a red flag.

I loved it and I'm still processing it but it was great. Also how was something like this allowed to happen in hollywood. I don't care. it happened and It was perfect. I loved it and I'm making plans to see it again.
