!Naruto spoiler alert!
I think Asuma's death is way more heartbreaking in the manga than in anime. The whole fight is the same, but the important change is in Shikamaru's character. In anime after his leader died he cried and said that it was because of the smoke from Asuma's cigarette. But in manga Shikamaru is the one who smoked then. He started coughing and talking about the smoke because the moment when Asuma died he took his lighter and started smoking. Yes, Asuma was smoking a cigarette during his last breaths but it wasn't his cigarette that caused Shikamaru's coughing.
When they are back in Konoha, Shikamaru is smoking in every shot we see him. He's doing it in the memory of his dead sensei even if he still hates smoking. He tells Tsunade that he's going to stop it when he'll get his revenge. It's a unusual behavior for him, but revenge is the most important thing to him in the moment. And just as he told Tsunade he stops smoking after the second battle with Hidan and Kakuzu.
Seeing Shikamaru like this is showing us how important Asuma was to him. In anime we see many characters crying after him, but Shikamaru isn't shown to us in a proper way because we can't see his sorrow the way manga showed it.

as the sun began to set after a long day, they were walking hand-in-hand as he insisted on walking with her to the apartment she was staying in the city. with his help, she managed to get a place to stay whenever she came to visit him. today, it appeared that he was determined to take her to places that she would like ( as if to make up for other ' tours ' he had taken her to without much of a plan. )
she wondered if he knew that spending time with him was the best part of it all.
so as they stood in front of the apartment, him telling her to get some rest and that he would text her before bed, the female took a rather bold initiative to lean in and press her lips against his. the kiss was chaste and sweet, only lasted for a few moment as soft blush dusted her cheeks when she leaned back. a tender smile decorated her expression. " that's what you're supposed to do ... at the end of a date, right ? " her smile turned a little bashful, voice lowering slightly. " and something ... you do with the one you like ... " [ from byakuya ! ]
despite telling her to go inside and rest, his hand continued to hold onto hers as if silently asking for a FEW more minutes. an action kurenai would no doubt tease him about once he reached his own apartment. but who could blame him? time never seemed to be on their side no matter how often she visited due to her responsibilities back on the island. on the plus side, she was becoming more familiar with modern technology and they no longer had to rely on handwritten letters that would get lost in transportation. especially with his BAD luck.
now if she could only learn how to hold the phone away from her ear during their video calls-- but that would be an issue he’d struggle with for another day.
when he thought he was FINALLY ready to let her hand go for the night. her next set of actions caught him off guard as she leaned forward to gently press her lips against his. the kiss probably lasted less than a minute, both of them TOO shy to even consider displaying public affection. but to him, it felt unhurried and he couldn’t help but smile as she pulled away. he'll never understand how he got so lucky to be paired with her for community service when his luck was practically nonexistent, but who was he to complain? the universe owed him at least this much happiness after what he'd been put through. “oh-- ? and where did you read about that?” he teased, voice uncharacteristically playful as he leaned in to press a kiss to her forehead. ".. i like you too." a lot. but he figured that should be saved for later before he scared her off. "but you really need to get some rest before you leave tomorrow."

Uchiha Sasuke
Oh, he’s gonna have a fit. Bonafide. He was super pissed and embarrassed when he accidentally kissed Naruto, so imagine if it was with a person that he actually liked. Yeesh, I’m so sorry. I think he would at first react in a quite nasty way, not out of malice but out of self-defense and insecurity. Remember, throughout his entire Academy education, all of the girls in his class were on him about their crushes. Pretty blatantly. I think this would definitely have some negative impact on how Sasuke views crushes at the age of a genin.
He would realize his colossal accident, though, when you were very upset. He really didn’t mean to do that, he’s really just lashing out. You would run away, and I don’t think he would chase after right away, instead trying to run into you at a later point. He would apologize after having sense beaten into him by Kakashi, and you can really tell it's hard for him to be open about this kind of stuff, so you accept it, acknowledging that neither of you are truly at fault. Sasuke’s relieved that you two can continue to be friends and get to know each other more, even if he’s gonna keep bottling up his feelings somewhat. I think you would definitely notice that his apology was still out of character, perhaps putting two and two together?
Uzumaki Naruto
Now, I think he would react the opposite of how he did when he accidentally kissed Sasuke. Instead of being grossed out that he ended up kissing someone he had no romantic feelings for, I think the poor boy would be flustered beyond all belief. Like, he would be the one to run away. After the sheer panic wore off, I think he would cackle like a mad man and immediately go brag to his team that he kissed the person he has a crush on. None of them would believe it and would grill him on what happened, leading them into discovering it was an accident.
The entire team is going to lambast Naruto for what happened and force him to go tell you that he’s sorry, but they’re quite shocked to see you come up to him to apologize before he got the chance. With a hand behind his head and a grin on his face, Naruto would accept, perhaps saying something really idiotic like how maybe it was fate or something like that, or how he doesn’t regret that it happened, especially with a close friend of his.
Hyuga Hinata
Oh look, you’ve killed her. Actually, though, she would probably flush so fast that the rush of blood to her head would make her dizzy. Immediately you would stammer out an apology, watching her stutter and try to process what just actually happened. If you were to try to place a reassuring hand on her shoulder or anything like that, please don’t. It will make it worse. Kiba, Shino, and Kurenai, her personal protection detail, would be on you in seconds, however. Shino and Kurenai would be working on getting out of her what happened while Kiba would yell at you about what happened.
I think after a couple of seconds, Hinata would be able to recover and explain the situation through her stammer. Earnestly, you would apologize to the entirety of Team 8, especially to Hinata. You would bow to her, anything to make sure that she knows that you didn’t mean to hurt her in any way. She is barely able to tell you that it was just an accident and that everything is alright before running away, her team on her heels and you left completely stunned.
Rock Lee
Rock Lee is way too polite to do anything other than pull away immediately and start apologizing. Don’t get me wrong if you didn’t express any discomfort at the situation, I think Lee would be ecstatic. But Might Guy one hundred percent had him on respect women juice from infancy. So he’ll be as chivalrous about it as possible. Expect Tenten and Neji to drag Lee away as he’s crying, having thrown himself on the ground for your forgiveness. The other two will also profusely apologize for Lee as they end the situation.
The next time you see Lee, he has a bouquet of flowers as an apology that he got from Ino. And his face is all scraped and bandaged up. You can’t help but feel a little bad about his injuries, and you genuinely weren’t upset about the accident, so you forgave Lee. His face would break out into a blush, and I see him shooting his shot with you for real, turning the giving of the bouquet from an apology into a declaration of love. Might Guy would definitely be rooting for him in the background, hidden away, crying over youthful love.

trying to make a list of 70’s to early 80’s proto-yuri, if anyone knows about other works please lemme know so I can add them ^_^
I grabbed the summaries off of manga ookoku, except for umibe no cain and maya no souretsu, which are from Wikipedia and mangadex respectively
“aries no otometachi” (1973) - satonaka machiko
-Kubo Emiko and Mizuho Romi are two girls born under the Aries sign. Emiko is an earnest and innocent girl who grew up with gentle parents. On the other hand, Romi, who was raised by her fashion designer mother, has a fierce temper. Emiko admires Takashi from the equestrian club, but when she meets the strong and beautiful Romi, she gradually becomes attracted to her. Is this excitement... love?
“futaripocchi” (1971) - riyoko ikeda
-Kaoru, a poor girl and Reiko, the daughter of a wealthy family are on good terms and attend Aisei Girls' Academy together. On the way home, Nobuko confesses her troubles about not being able to dress femininely. Since she lives alone, they meet often and talk about various things. Spilled the beans ||Kakashi x Reader

Sitting at a bar, drinking with your comrades, you slam down a cup and demand another. It was supposed to be light hearted fun, a little get together, yet you’re spilling out all of your woes to Kurenai about a particular shinobi.
A few hours prior to going out with the gang, you had initially asked Kakashi if he wanted to check out the new sushi place down the street. The flat rejection of “I’m busy” and him continuing to fly off to the hokage’s office crushed your self confidence.
Here you are, brazenly drunk at an ungodly hour with Asuma, Kurenai, Genma and Anko. How long has it been since everyone first arrived? Who knows. Guy was also supposed to join in with the gang earlier but reported he was busy as well.
At some point you were singing with the crew, the next you were about to throw hands with some man who dared touch. Anko, off to the side, is egging you on to rearrange his face. The ones holding you back is Genma and Kurenai, deciding you’ve had far too much to drink and should probably head home.
It felt like the heavens above loved to tease your poor soul. Both Guy and Kakashi pulled up to the party. They would be fashionably late if it weren’t more than 3 hours after the appointed time. Something something, Guy challenged him and didn’t know if everyone would still be here.
“See, my eternal rival! They’re still here youthful and kicking it!”
“Glad you two could make it.”
“Ah, actually I was just stopping by.”
While you could over hear what people were saying, your mind was too fogged up to process what was going on. Instead, you were still telling Anko how you one hundred percent could have taken that creep.
“He…! Would have deserved it y’know! Ya can’t just yknow! Go around touchin’ people like that.”
“Mm.”
“See? See? He woulda haddit co—“
The next thing you knew, you were hoisted up by someone piggy back style. Before you could protest, the warmth of their body and scent of vanilla calms your alcohol induced rage. A round of farewells sends you and your escort off. Smile, wave, and nuzzle into whoever is taking you home.
“Mister escort? You are taking me home right?”
“Yes”
“Okay.. How do you know where I live?”
“That’s a secret”
A gasp, “YOU’RE NOT KIDNAPPING ME ARE YOU?”
“Ah, yes. All of your friends let you be whisked away by some stranger.”
Shaking your head, you mumble in disbelief, “I can’t believe them. They’ll pay for this.”
There’s a pause. Streetlights pass over head steadily. Cool air clings on to your face as he walks.
“Mister escort? Do you have anyone you love?”
Muscles tense underneath you. Sighing, you continue talking, the words still slurring.
“Hey. Promise me you won’t tell anyone?”
“Tell anyone what?”
“Oi! gotta promise first!!”
“Sure.”
“Piiiiiinky promise!”
One arm unlatches from the man’s neck and holds out the little digit.
“Okay, okay. Promise.”
The gesture is returned, linking the the two appendages.
“Do you know… hmnn uh Kakashi Hatake? Think everyone knows him. If you don’t you’re really living under a rock mister!”
Another sigh, another huff. You bury your face into the crook of this man’s neck, covered in fabric.
“I love him.. A lot. I don’t know if he loves me back but what I do know Is that I have to be the one who has to confess first. He would rather bury his emotions six feet under and then jump off a cliff than say anything. He’s— He’s lost so much; I don’t blame him. Even if.. And even if Kakashi doesn’t return my feelings, that’s okay. All I want is to see that man happy and at peace for once in his life. He might not believe it but he deserves to love and be loved.”
“… Why do you love someone like him?”
“Are you kidding? He puts his friends and comrades first over rules, over the mission. His loyalties lies in them. I feel like that’s hard to come by these days. Who wouldn’t want someone like that in their life?”
Your escort stops in front of your door, not saying a single word. Bending down, he lets you off his back.
“You promised not to tell anybody, okay? Especially not him! If I find out you told him.. I’ll hunt you down, Mister Escort,” you threaten, not bothering to look at his face. With poor coordination you struggle to unlock the door. The only thing you wanted right now was to get inside and fall asleep. Once it unlocks and the entrance to your apartment is open, you bid the man a thank you and farewell.
After the door shuts in his face, he whispers. The words are barely audible.
“I love you too.”

Naruto x Demon Slayer au: Orochimaru - Written notes / Plot / Character design
Orochimaru takes inspiration from Obanai and Ubuyashiki. Like Obanai, he has poor eyesight but in both eyes. He has multiple snakes that emerge from his kimono to help him see when he requires his eyes. Like Ubuyashiki, he has a very calm tone of voice with an almost magical feel to it.
He often sits with his hands on his lap, and he bows when greeting people. He shows great appreciation for Tsunade and Jiraiya, whom he works along side of to run the leaf corps. His hands are feminine, and he has a very delicate touch and hold, but he's still plenty capable of carrying someone like Sakura without fault. Orochimaru wears a blindfold over his eyes, as they're very sensitive to light, and always has a soft smile on his face.
Kabuto is his right hand man. Orochimaru will send him off to gather information, and he will always retrieve it. He is also a great help in the lab. Sometimes, he acts as Orochimaru's eyes.
Orochimaru is first seen when Sakura is sent on the wrong mission. One of the Hashira sensei's sent her to fight one of Madara's higher rank demons, named Upper Moons, in hopes that her and Naruto will be killed. Sakura fought endlessly with this demon, through broken ribs, a broken arm and even a broken sword for hours. She strived for one reason - protecting Naruto, who was still recovering in his box from their last mission. He was blissfully unaware of the tragedy. Sakura cuts off the demons head, but before it could disappear, it stabs her in the stomach with her broken Nichirin sword. The box's straps were cut, so she slowly goes over to it, covering it with her body in a protective manner before passing out from exhaustion and blood loss. Naruto crawls out of his box after half an hour passes, he sees Sakura's state and panics. Trying to shake her awake, sobbing and wanting to scream.
Kurenai appears soon after, rushing to the two of them. Seeing Naruto startled, she approaches gently and smiles at him to let him know she's not a threat. Naruto reaches over Sakura and grabs her first aid kit, holding it out to Kurenai. "I'll try my best." She says, before starting to treat the wounds she can. Asuma joins her, helping her fix the sword wound, and reports:
"There's no sign of the demon anywhere. I asked some bystanders and they said it disappeared into ash. They also said it had a number in its eyes... so I'm assuming it's one of his..."
"This poor girl... fought... an Upper Moon? At her rank? It's a miracle she still has a pulse."
Naruto watches closely to make sure they aren't hurting Sakura, after the treatment, he reluctantly goes back into his box so they can start making their way to where they were instructed to go. Wanting to be with Sakura.
Orochimaru greets them in an unfurnished room in a small house, sitting in the centre. He holds his arms out in front of him, gesturing for Sakura to be put in front of him. Asuma does as told, and they begin their meeting.

Orochimaru: Welcome, Hashira. Glad to see you are unscathed. Shall we begin?
Kurenai and Asuma nod.
Orochimaru: The box... with the demon... what are your reports on him?
Asuma: He reminds me of the retired Hashira Minato.
Orochimaru: Hmm? Jiraiya's student?
Asuma: Yes sir. Their eyes are almost identical. But unlike Minato, he is very... sensitive. I've only seen him twice, and both times he has clung to and sobbed over this girl. They seem very close.
Orochimaru: Interesting... and you?
Kurenai: They behave kind of like siblings, Sakura taking the role of the elder. She was laying on top of the box as if to protect it, even if she died. He was hesitant to trust me, but he handed me a first aid kit for me to help her. He watched my hands closely when I was tending to her wounds, as if to make sure I wasn't causing further harm. They care deeply about each other.
Orochimaru: I see... open the box, please. I want to see the child myself.
Asuma places the box down and opens it, Naruto slowly crawling out, eyes gluing to Sakura. Orochimaru lifts the blindfond over his eyes, snakes emerging from his kimono, all staring at Naruto. Orochimaru beckons him forward, holding his hand gently and placing it on Sakura's chest to show him that she is still alive. Naruto is instantly relieved. After a somber pause, Orochimaru speaks.
Orochimaru: It was rumoured that Minato retired early because his wife was with child... I have reason to believe that this is him. There has been no contact with him since before these two arrived, so I have sent Kabuto out to investigate. Hopefully, he finds out more on the girls past as well.
Orochimaru moves his blindfold back into place, the snakes retreat as well.
Orochimaru: Is there anything further from you two?
Kurenai: What's going to happen to the Hashira?
Orochimaru: Until further notice, he has been taken of duty as a Hashira. We are having him evaluated for his mental state, and if he can come to terms with everything he will be allowed back, but we have decided that it is up to this child what his punishment will be.
Kurenai: Ah... I see... thank you, Lord Orochimaru.
Orochimaru nods to show his appreciation.
Orochimaru: Asuma?
Asuma: Uhm... the demon she fought... there was reports that it had a numeral engraved in its eyes. We believe that she fought one of Uchiha Madara's high rank demons.
Orochimaru: Ah... very interesting... I will have to interview her as well once she wakes. Just to be sure.
Asuma: Thank you, Lord Orochimaru.
Orochimaru nods again
Orochimaru: As of now, both Sakura and Naruto are seen as demon slayer corps members, as are the three siblings from the sand. They are all under the protection of Lady Tsunade, Lord Jiraiya and I.
Orochimaru stands up and walks over to the two Hashira, bowing with a hand over his heart.
Orochimaru: On behalf of the three Sannin, I thank you both for your services. I trust that you two will bring the children back safe and sound. Take care
He begins to walk to the door, disappearing into a puff of raven feathers.
Asuma and Kurenai release the breath they have been subconsciously holding, and make their way to begin their travel home.

maybe juugo with team 8 cause poor kurenai doesn't need to pop an aneurism so soon also actual disney princess juugo would fit the animal motif of team 8 well (also suigetsu and tenten bonding over their big ass weapons)
I did think of exactly that! But I also really wanted team Gai to have that chill time with him and his little animals 🥺 talking softly with Tenten, Neji reacting quietly and Lee being a positive encouragement to have around! He needs that!
And also Suigetsu and Kiba together would be just so funny~

Everyone is surprised when Kid Rin blushes and says she has a crush on Kakashi. Sakura is immidiatly trying to talk her out of that one XD save the poor girl from terrible life choices
Meanwhile the boys are hanging out and someone asks the terrible question of who they’re crushing on. Obito of course gets all blushy and ca’t say it, but that’s ok! Kakashi loves embarrassing his teammate and announces without hesitation that Obito has a huge crush on Rin
Someone (asuma) asks who Kakashi likes and he just scoffs and says he doesn’t have time for that sort of thing, but Obito throws back with ‘right, that’s why you spend so much time with Gai’

The pure ~gender~ if Sai, Kabuto, and Naruto were on the same team. Naruto borrowing Sai’s crop tops is excellent
No matter who ends up as the third on their team they will always be gender.
Poor Shino will not know what to do with himself with Naruto in a crop top. His dad, kurenai, and at one point Akamaru all had to pull him out of the way of several walls/poles/other people in the d first week or so of Naruto wearing them.
