haven't done a monster biology post in a while
plant monsters
-long, spiraling vines that wrap so nicely around your limbs – soft, but firm enough that you can't move around as it takes its time with you
thick stalks attached to large flowers that open to reveal petals lined with sharp teeth and long tongues where the stamen should be. flowers that wrap around adventurer's heads as the vines hold them still, tongue curiously exploring all their warm, dark spaces
-flowers with aphrodisiac pollens that latch on the same way, stamens curling into their victim's nose, mouth, and ears, shooting bursts of pollen into their lungs and sinuses until they can barely move
-thorned vines to hold people in place just a little bit better, for those tender little captives who struggle a bit too much
-flowers large enough to hold adventurers inside them, leaving them vulnerable and unable to escape when the plant decides to either dissolve them for nutrients or pump them full of seeds
-plants that grow large, delicious fruit with hardy seeds small enough to swallow, smelling wonderful to coax creatures into eating them and spreading the seeds
-flowers with chromatophores that fan open and face towards visitors, flashing bright colors at them in vivid, mesmerizing patterns, distracting them while the vines coil them up
-things that look like closed flower buds, but aren't. adventurers don't realize until they're already within the plant's grasp that they're actually long, thin ovipositors, designed to pump hundreds of tiny, gooey seeds into the plant's captives.
-creatures that look like plants but aren't. mottled green skin/fur, long leafy ears, long brushy tongues to pull nectar from flowers, soft paw pads to move quietly through the underbrush they rely on for camouflage
