In the animal kingdom, typically the male birds are the ones who are super colorful and do complicated mating rituals such as singing, dance, or gift giving to attract a mate. Since Xiao is a bird type illuminated beast, could you do hcs about what kind of dramatic things he would do to seduce the reader? I wanna see his serious self wearing the gaudiest outfit ever while break dancing lmao
Tumblr media
Pairings: Xiao x reader
Warnings: GN!reader, courting rituals, tiny bit of angst
Genre/Format: Fluff; Headcannons
Author's Note: I was today years old when I found out that Xiao is a sort of bird-like creature 😶 Anyways yeah! Hope these are to your liking~
Please check my blog title to verify whether requests are closed or not! Thank you!
Tumblr media
I cannot picture Xiao ever breakdancing lol. But! I think he would perform some sort of traditional dance to impress a potential partner.
If you recall the end of Ayaka's story quest (I think?) I'm picturing something very similar; albeit a traditional Chinese dance. Something truly breathtaking and emotional.
Xiao has trouble expressing his feelings and emotions, as well as even understanding human emotions in the first place...but he would still try to convey how he feels about you through song and dance.
Reluctantly, the adeptus may even ask his good pal Venti for a bit of help. Maybe the anemo archon would be generous enough to play the flute or lyre while Xiao courts you?
I also think Xiao is the type to want every detail to be perfect. Elaborate, but not entirely over the top.
A specific location where the scenery is gorgeous; the breeze passes through, the moon shines down on his graceful body as it moves and flows to the music, maybe some leaves fall around him? Or perhaps some aromatic petals?
Of course he's going to wear the most beautiful ensemble during his performance as well. Some sort of hanfu, or hanfu-inspired clothing that flows like the wind.
Xiao is also the type to bring you little gifts in an attempt to court you. He is quite perceptive and can pick up on the things that interest you easily.
A bracelet crafted from crystalfly cores and noctilucous jade. A bookmark made of pressed qingxin flowers. A wonderful blend of tea that Xiao created himself (with a bit of help from Zhongli, of course)
I can definitely picture the adeptus flaunting his strength oh so casually in front of/around you.
He's not the type of guy to flex his biceps for you to squeeze (unless you really want to? Then maaaybe he can make an exception...just this once...just for you)
Though he will jump in to 'rescue' you. By this I mean that he will rescue you from a tiny cut while you're cooking. Not even bad enough to need a bandage, just a small knick.
Xiao will appear next to you ready to whisk you off to the hospital or something...you have to firmly decline and remind him that you're not made of glass. 😐
The sweetie means well, he's just overly protective of the person that he desires spending the rest of his life with 💕

The bruise
Tears stain your face even though you already stopped crying long ago. Scars little your skin and they feel like open wounds. You remember every day you got them, from him. He promised that you are safe, and you fell for it. His sadistic smile burns in your nightmare as he rises the blade to your skin. Another scar for his collection. May it be his initial that he carves or just random patterns, he loves your whimper, your begging and your crying face as you fully submit to his mercy. He thinks you look eternal like that, you make him feel so giddy. He makes it clear that you are his, your body is his. You know by now that the only way to experience the sweet smell of freedom is determined by him, through his blade, and only when he desires to cut too deep. But until then you'll have to live in a constant state of bruised legs, hips and neck as the pain and his 'love' overwhelmes you.
Childe, Dottore, Pantalone, Ayato, Kaeya, Wanderer/Scara
The kiss
He can't keep his hands off you. He wants to explore every nook and cranny of your body, with his eyes, hand and lips. You taste marvellous and your moans are addictive, your shivers driving him over the edge. He has reached places you never knew existed as he holds you, hands moving, rubbing and lightly squeezing you. He's never too rough, always treating you like a piece of glass as he worships your body. You gave him a taste, let him indulge, and now he's hooked. He never leaves your side, he NEEDS to be around you, touch you. Without the warmth you radiate, his worlds seems so cold. But don't worry, you won't leave him. He makes sure you'll always be back in his arms, at the mercy of his kiss.
Kaeya, Childe, Zhongli, Itto, Alhaitham, Cyno, Albedo, Diluc
The affection
You don't have a choice to love anyone but him. He served his heart on a silver plate and you accepted it. You were a fool to be swept up by his sweet words and charming smile as now it's the only thing you whish to never see again. He would do anything for you, everything you desire. Isn't that so romantic? He tells you he loves you 24/7 and that you're so pretty and beautiful. He can't help himself as he remembers the days you would still blush at his words. He knows you still feel the same deep deep down. You said you loved him forever, didn't you? He knows you never stopped loving him, just as he will never stop loving you. If he keeps smothering you with his affection, surely you'll finally come around?

Sobbing and crying just saw your post of us sounding like a Sim, and I am DYING.
What if it went the other way? They can understand us, but we can't understand them!
Us : hey so what the fuck is happening why tf am I in genshin impact
Them : OMG ASKSKSKSKS FEDERRRALL MEERKK TREEESO! (Omg it's the divine God I'm shittinh myself oml) or whatever idk)
Us: excuse me what the fuck did you just say about my mother? (US mishearing or maybe the words are randomized? Who knows)
Everyone just being confused and frustrated on why you can't understand them. Is it because they aren't worshipping you enough? Maybe some friendship level BS where obly those who are lvl 10 can understand u or smth? Who knows, certainly not the Creator.
I highkey am thinking about writing smth for this now but having it be for like each archons reaction or smthin but who knows. I just wanna see a bunch of divine beings confused outta their mind in like whatever cities square and it turning into a "holy game of charades"
Also happy early birthday ajdjdjkdkdkdk
I”M SO LATE SO THANK YOU FOR THE BDAY WISHES LMAO SORRY KARMA MY BELOVED
AHHHHH U INSPIRED ME BY THE ARCHONS HOLY GAME OF CHARADES-
AND OH NO LVL 10 ONLY FRIENDSHIP UNDERSTANDING-
(づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ here have a hug for your patience- sorry karma!! :')
Tumblr media
LMAO this inuyasha gif- obviously everyone else guessing what ur doing and the 2 others r like ppl like Venti or Kaeya who r just fucking with ppl by joining you lol
OK BUT WHO DO U HAVE LVL 10 FRIENDSHIP?!
BC I GOT NOBODY 😭
ITS RLLY HARD TO DO OKAY-
I HAVE TO PUT ACTUAL EFFORT INTO THE FEW THAT ARE LEVEL 4-5
ID BE SO FUCKED-
Oh no.
Oh god (you??) no.
What if you had the highest friendship with little d**ks like Scaramouche.
noooOOOOOO
He’d be like, “Eh, I don’t feel like translating today.” 💀
Also I’m rolling with the idea that
perfect understanding = lvl 10,
Most words 7-9
Some words 5-6
Kinda ?? they get 2 words per sentence or smth 3-4
Basically nothing 1-2
Anyway ornery bitches like Scara/Xiao/Alhaitham/Rosaria/Diluc (all for diff reasons like diluc/xiao would just be overwhelmed and dont like ppl that much lol, whereas haitham doesnt give a fuck lmao) would kinda suck to have as translators
OH NOT THE PEOPLE WHO WOULD JUST LIE ABOUT WHAT U SAID ON PURPOSE TO DECEIVE THE MASSES LIKE Heizou/Yae Miko/Kaeya/Venti
They pull something like “oh well the god of gods said I could have the last slice of cake/an extra glass of wine hehe”
For different reasons these people would also be ROUGH translators: FISCHL OH NO- , Zhongli, Albedo (he simply would omit “unnecessary details”, cyno, ITTO PLEASE, Raiden (puppet) bc shed take stuff too far/too literally u would never be able to communicate jokes, Razor (im sorry bbyboy), Shenhe
THE CHARADDEEESSS
THE CHARADES OF THE GODS
You may or may not get another title of a jokester god bc of these SILLY charades 💀
The people u have higher levels of friendship with giving hints LMAO
“Uhhh….. Oh! Oh! Greatest Lord wishes to see a dance performance!”
Nahida’s sweet voice rings out in Yujing Terrace, her tiny hand waving in the air like an elementary student who’s really excited to answer. …Which isn’t that far off honestly.
“Hmm, I disagree Buer, I believe the Hundun Emperor is saying they wish to take a bath perhaps. I am also attempting to use context, as it has been a long day for them.” Zhongli is in his classic “majestic thinking gentleman” pose, and you’d admire it more if it weren’t for the fact that they don’t seem to be getting what you’re saying.
You hadn’t yet found someone with a higher friendship level than 2 or 3 (hey, don’t blame yourself, you really have to put effort into friendship levels to get them anywhere and you were still busy screwing around in Sumeru when you got spirited away).
So needless to say, most people were getting “the, me, I, you, etc.” rather than the actual important keywords you needed them to, hence the godly charade game now.
As you “hold” something, you throw your hands up in the air, still keeping your hands wrapped around nothing. You think if somebody told you last week that you’d be playing charades with the archons in Genshin Impact so you could actually communicate with them… well you don’t know what you would have done. Maybe just gave them a really awkward laugh.
“Oh! Are you asking for a weapon? Akitsu Mikami, my emperor, we or our nations will surely provide protection from any harm that might befall you. Hm, I suppose we should offer something anyway… I wouldn’t want to displease them…” Ei mutters to herself, having taken over her puppet once more for the occasion.
She and Buer, still retaining their authority status, had asked for the area to be cleared in order to try and get closer to communicating with the Divine First, or you.
“Ha! What idiot would try to hurt the All-Parent in their home, unless they wish to get thrown?” Venti cheekily says, as you don’t understand him, but judging by Zhongli’s clenched jaw, Ei’s sigh, and Nahida’s giggle, you can guess.
You give your own sad sigh… it’s already been 3 hours. 😭
How hard is charades for 4 archons??
Well… apparently very hard.
You put your face in your hands, and you hear the (retired) archons start to debate something, you can tell it’s getting a little passive-aggressive between Venti and Zhongli by their tone alone.
…Okay, now it’s just aggressive.
The archons eventually give their attention back to you so you can go back to your charades lol
You tried opening your mouth and closing it, very obvious, they can’t go wrong.
…Turns out they can.
Somehow you find yourself with a hot tea brewed by the geo archon.
(Venti attempted to offer you Dandelion Wine, or Osmanthus Wine even, and only god, well you now, knows where he pulled them from. Ei swatted his head, he looked so offended, and his cheeks were all puffed up, heh.)
Giving up, you just try to motion for them to stay still, your hands gesturing like trying to calm a wild animal.
They give you questioning looks, and you begin to walk off, they all seem to immediately start discussing something with each other. All of the gods look very conflicted, and after a minute of you getting further away (yes, you’re almost home free, Xiangling here you come! ) Nahida skips to catch up with you.
She gives you a beaming smile, and you can’t bring yourself to not return it. She's so much cuter in real life, even the official art didn't do her justice.
You make your way towards the restaurant, finally.
And apparently you’re happier than you thought to smell the savory scents flowing out of the kitchen because your stomach growls loudly.
You’re too hungry to even attempt to stop it, no one will care, except Nahida’s eyes go wide. She begins to sputter, and flail her hands desperately trying to charade an apology at you.
…you were just trying to tell them you were hungry. 💀
Ask box open again! :] 🎊

AWWW~! Now I have to know how they would react to the gifts lol. Imagine the triplets getting rare time bonding but Xiao and Kazuha adamantly refuse to share their blanket/shawl with Venti. Albedo always going to extremes so his cardigan NEVER gets stained. Chongyun outright going berserk mode if Hu Tao and Xingqiu dared to prank him by taking his scarf. NO RUSH THO. Take a good rest if you need one. (1)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You know the first thing I thought was how the heck did you read my mind..., especially for Ayato and Childe's smug act part. Like was it that obvious? I didn't think I place the reader's father in a negative light lmao. I am kidding~
I might make a reaction later not now but I will say a few items that I thought of when I was writing that.
Helmet for Bennett, all that came to my mind was that I need a helmet for that guy but then I had to remind myself constantly that this is a handmade shop and not a bike store.
I was thinking of giving Ayato or Kaeya a smoking pipe (the one that Ningaung uses) I don't know... I could imagine them just having that in their rooms whether they use it or not like many a gift or something? Like maybe reader saw how cool it look on the tv and when she saw it she didn't know what it was actually meant for and just... grabbed it not before her father grabbed it from her hands. She would probably try to nag her dad to give it back and that it was a gift for Ayato only for her dad to tell her no and then in the end resulting in her just giving Ayato candles. (She wanted that pipe but he dad just refuse to give it to her!!!)
For Venti the first thing I thought of was a wine holder and by that, I mean either a mini blanket for the wine glass just to make it look cozy or that strap necklace kind of thing where Venti doesn't have to hold the wine glass while he walks around the house. He just needs to be careful so that he won't spill the wine on his clothes...

Like this but handmade... *looks away*

Message #2 but you can answer any message in any order of course 🥰
The teacher issue wasn't really solved but he was replaced for this one subject already. He still handles the Main one crucial to our education so... Idk 😆😭 I literally don't even care to listen to his class because Why is he like That (he's very confusing and i cannot Learn)...
Woaaa goodluck on looking back to your college content!! (人´ω`*)♡ so insane how professional doctors were able to retain soo much info learned in college. Omg bass and keyboard! That is so very cool😳, i would like to learn music too (<- ambitious, and is bad at it)
IRL is so insane for me, i'm literally like a loner so social media is one medium for me to earn friends atleast(<- doesnt talk to anyone even on socmed) 🤣 i wanna make lots of friends but i obviously can't keep them all and tend to them consistently #introvert. I was one click away from making a blog but then the problem— the username... *Sweats* Interactions -> sharing thoughts comfortably is such a smart concept Fox! Didn't thought of that 😚
My... Creative projects as you described it isn't really any project that you expect😆 just fanarts here and there! <3
Your day that day is really productive already!! (to me, atleast) (๑•̀∀•́ฅ ✧ BUT LIGHTNING *INFRONT* of your house.... 😳 that's so scary! i wanna know what flavor is the cake 👀 please do tell~ i'm very hungry right now but i'll just probably sleep through this (ineffective). i drink water regularly (cant be dehydrated, nuh uh) not the 8 glasses thingy but still a nice amount! how are you today? :D
I did the lost seelie! I picked dayflower (blue) ( ^ω^ ) i really dont wanna pick the pink (not my type/too neon bright) 😅 what about you? Which color did you get? :o Nothing serious really happened! (But maybe it is for an introvert lol) I just didn't have the energy to socialize~ but i was lurking in tumblr to reblog cute carrd pngs or nice images ☺️
Have you tried fishing in Sumeru yet? Do you have a favorite fish? I personally like the Peach of the Deep Waves (only to be fished from the mawtiyama forest mushroom pool!) 🐟 I'm curious how adhd testing would go for you ! You dont need to tell the results if that's your preference ♥
— 🍰.
i feel like you should know my brain compels me to reply in order jfndknd 😅
i... am so sorry. really. i kinda wanna look at the silver lining of "oh, he's out of one at least!" but it still sucks considering the weight of the subject he still teaches. good luck 😭
thank you, i'll do my best 🥲 we review a lot. all the time. at some point the information has to stick lol i have experimental classes booked for next week, so hopefully i'll enjoy them. i used to play bass back in 2011/12 but i don't remember anything. have you tried any instruments?? or singing, maybe?
honestly the way you described your irl is a lot like mine lol #introvert, can absolutely relate. the dreaded username 😂 and even if it's just fanart, it's still a project!! and still cool!!! 💕
the lightning was both funny and scary – our porch light is still out, but the rest was normalized in the morning. i was going upstairs and met my dog halfway bc she got scared 😭😭😭 she kept following me and even camped in front of every door i went through until i went to bed, since she sleeps in my bedroom with me. the cake flavors were chocolate and fubá (apparently it's cornmeal in english?)! very tasty in my opinion uwu also!! don't go to bed hungry >:( you should eat!!!
i'm doing my best, honestly. that's all i can really say. thank you for asking 💕
ahhh, the blue seelie is really cute!! i was torn between that, yellow or green, and ended up getting green. it fits quite nicely with xiao hehe~ i can respect that; taking time for yourself is important.
i haven't yet! actually i've been ignoring the fishing mechanic for a while now loooool the same way i ignore my teapot..... i guess i'll google what fish that is 😅 i'll let you know when i get tested! i'm talking to my psychiatrist about that on friday, and i guess we'll go from there :3c

Xiao
“Xiao, how about today? Are you free today?” You’ve been asking him if he’d wanted to take a nice relaxing walk with you for a while now. You think that he’s been working too hard and needed more breaks.
“...Not today,” he doesn’t even look at you when he’s saying this. His eyes are glued to the archway leading into Wangshu Inn.
You know who he’s waiting for and lo and behold, Lumine comes strolling in, just passing the archway and Xiao straightens up.
You really don’t have anything against Lumine but you also can’t help the slight jealous streak bubbling up from the pits of your stomach
“...Okay. Be careful then,” you don’t say much other than that, not expecting a lot but, as if sensing your unease he turns to you, thoughtful gaze on his face. You stare back at him and tilt your head in slight wonder.
He lifts his hand to barely graze your cheek, the tips of his fingers tickling it. “I’ll be back,” and the next moment with a slight whistle of the wind, he’s gone. When you look down at the archway of Wangshu Inn, he’s standing next to Lumine already.
You take a moment to watch the scene and turn away to go back to Liyue, a heavy feeling in your chest.
For the next few days you get busy with some paperwork for your job. You hadn’t passed by the inn in a few days. “...Not that Xiao’s free, anyway,” you tell yourself and keep at it during work. You get frequent headaches at work when you stress out too much and so you do make it a point to try and de-stress once in a while or take short breaks.
“He must like Lumine a lot... or something...” You think to yourself one day while looking out your window and up at the moon. “...Or he just... doesn’t care about me anymore...” You blink as a picture of Lumine flashes in your mind’s eyes. “...She is kinda pretty... and strong... and capable...”
You feel yourself getting slightly depressed so you stop thinking about it and go on with your daily tasks.
After a week has passed you were busy at work when there’s suddenly a commotion at the front desk. “Uh, Y/N, there’s someone looking for you...” your co-worker says, pointing at the entrance of the shop, a perturbed look on her face.
You wonder who it could be and stroll up over there and to your surprise Xiao is glaring at you like you’d done something wrong, arms crossed and everything. “Where were you?! You didn’t come for a week!” Your other co-workers loitering around glance at you and him.
You blink, shocked at his outburst, “Oh, I... was busy,” Xiao seems to let out a long sigh and turns around, “Come walk with me for a bit,” he demands and you get slightly annoyed that he can just stroll in there and demand what he wants and yet you can’t even get a moment with him when YOU want to.
“I’m not on break, so no,” you hold your ground and step back, he twirls around, his turn to be shocked at your refusal. You never refused to spend time with him. He keeps quiet but searches your gaze. “Alright I’ll wait till you’re done then,” he’s about to walk away but you’ve just about had it.
“You don’t have to do anything for me... You’re better off spending time with Lumine, I’m not that interesting,” You say before you could think about it. Your co-workers are watching the scene unfold but before Xiao can say anything you’ve turned around and disappeared into the back of the shop.
Xiao is even more shocked, you were always good-natured and he’s left standing there in the middle of the shop slowly realizing that he might have fucked up somewhere. He gives your co-workers a dirty glare though before stalking off and waiting outside your workplace for the rest of the day.
“Oh... You’re still here,” You were secretly hoping he still was but you were also extremely tired and could feel the dull pain of a headache starting.
Xiao is silent again but gives you a once over. Then he fumbles with something in his pocket and hands you a vial with some liquid in it. You blink down at it but receive it, turning the small glass around in your hands.
He finally offers an explanation, turning his gaze away from you. “...The traveller said there’s a flower up on the mountains that helps with headaches...” he gives a slight pause here. “It was a little difficult to gather so it took a few days but... we got enough and turned it into an ointment,”
You’re taken aback. So... all those times were actually...“You... For me?” You look up at him, clutching the vial carefully, getting teary eyed at the emotional roller coaster of a week you’ve had.
He senses your distress and turns his eyes towards you once again and just gives a small nod. You suddenly feel guilty and let a few tears fall, not exactly crying but just on the edge of it. “I’m sorry Xiao, I thought--”
“Idiot,” he grabs your arm and pulls you closer to wipe away your tears. You manage to breathe out a small chuckle as he does so. He already knows what you were worried and upset about. “....I’d never replace you,”
It was so soft that you might have missed it if you didn’t listen carefully, but you heard it and a smile forms on your face, you lean in to kiss him on the cheek “Thank you Xiao!”
A slight pink forms on his cheeks, there wasn’t a lot of people this late at night but it still got him shy. “Wh-Whatever, just try it out and let me know,” he crosses his arms again and starts walking away but you follow him happily.
“I’ll try it out now, can we take a quick stroll right after?” You ask, falling in step next to him. This time, he agrees. And although he acts tough and everything through the night stroll, you’ll suddenly notice that you’ve been holding hands by the end of it.
“Don’t disappear like that again, even if you do I’ll come looking for you,”

summary; after finding out the rules of the game, you decide that you would do anything for him. pairings; xiao x reader (no pronouns used) warnings/tags; no beta/not proofread, lowkey squid game spoilers, squid game!AU, marble game but instead of sae-byeok and ji-yeong its xiao and you, major character death (you oops), angst no comfort, mentions of guns, death, and blood notes; so this is probably gonna flop/ someone has probably already done this before BUT !!! my sae-byeok brainrot has been THROUGH THE ROOF lately and i cant write for her so instead i did this lol, if it does well maybe i'll do more squid game crossovers ??? lmk if anyone wants a pt 2 with more charas bc this was meant to have more but its 5 am and i am exhausted LMAO reblogs are highly appreciated! songs; lonely shredder; mac demarco - happier than ever (edit); billie eilish
Tumblr media
the small, glass marble was heavy between your fingers, the decision you were about to make hanging uncomfortably in your chest. your partner's marble was well a ways away in the alley you were playing in, pretty much securing the win if you were to play your cards right.
or in your case, playing them wrong.
because you were choosing to lose.
Tumblr media
⊹XIAO
your marble slipped from your grasp only a foot or two from the line, landing with a pathetic thumb against the sandy floor. you glanced up at his marble, nestled in the gritty dirt several meters away. xiao had won.
you straightened your back, not really sure what was going to happen next or just how long you had left before your time was up.
"what are you doing?"
you winced just slightly when xiao spoke, hearing his footsteps approach behind you until your collar was grabbed roughly, pushing you back against the nearest wall.
"i lost," you said, weakly.
his eyes were swirling with confusion, anger, fear. it pained you to look into them. he wore a blank expression but you saw right through his stupid, icy facade.
just like you always could.
"why the hell would you do that?" he seethed, gripping your jacket tighter and shaking you roughly. you could tell how hard he was trying to be angry, to hate you for what you were doing. but you knew he didn't. he couldn't.
"hey, butter fingers, what can you do," you tried to crack a smile, but you knew it wasn't going to help.
xiao looked dumbfounded, brows knitted together in an emotion you weren't very well acquainted with seeing on his face:
fear.
"why are you doing this?" his voice was softer now, yet his tight grip on your collar remained steady. you didn't like seeing him like this, but it was all for the best. love makes you do crazy things, after all.
"whatever it takes," you whisper, despair and nausea washing over you as your choice was being set in stone. "i'll make sure you win."
his eyes widened slightly as your words truly sunk in, the gravity of the situation hitting harder than any bullet ever could.
anger suddenly took over his features again, fingers curling into fists around the fabric of your blood-stained jacket.
"you think i'm going to be grateful for this?" he spat, the malice in his tone not enough to counteract the horror in his glistening amber eyes. "take another throw. don't..."
his voice cracked and his eyes finally tore away from yours, his grip on you slacking once again. his breaths came heavy, and the quiver in his lip told you it took everything within him not to cry. "don't do this. please..."
you reached up, running your hands through his hair gently, relishing in the feel of his silky strands for what would be your last time feeling them. xiao squeezed his eyes shut, unsure whether it would hurt less to sink deeper into your touch or push you as far away as possible.
why? why did it have to be this way?
"you can't die," your voice is shaking and you have never been more terrified in your life, but the thought of xiao walking out of the bloodied room unscathed and safe was enough to keep you going. "i need you to live for the both of us. make it out of here for us, xiao..."
you tried to smile, feeling the familiar sting of tears burn at the back of your throat. but you wouldn't cry. not in front of him.
hot tears streaked single-file down your lover's cheeks, unbridled hopelessness pooling in both of his honey eyes. you reached up to wipe them away, but two masked guards rounded the corner, the lethal weapon present with one of them sealing your fate.
you were practically dragged off of the wall and out of his arms, the other guard simply leading xiao down the other way.
"xiao!" you called, catching him just before he was taken from the hellish room.
it was suddenly so much harder to speak, each word you wanted to scream getting caught in your throat. you knew you only had mere moments left, but you didn't have any idea what to say.
"thank you," you choked, smiling back your tears even though his back was turned. "thank you for being my partner."
the clink of a gun sounded much less scary seeing xiao out of harms way, and in that moment, you felt at peace.
"player 240, eliminated."

Zhongli
Zhongli doesn’t typically get surprised by things - he’s often so relaxed and easygoing that no matter how hard people try to get under his skin or shock him, they find more success at making a mountain laugh
He’s seen so many things in his thousands of years, his reactions have been muted beyond belief - perhaps due to the countless events which he’d soon rather forget, if only he wasn’t plagued by the constant reminders of his historic actions
Still, there are times when he is genuinely surprised - and today was one of those days
“Zhongli!” The young woman burst through the doors of his office, the sweat pouring down her face and glistening in the sun that shined through the window. There was an urgency in her voice, and as still as his expression was, his heart began to pound. “It’s Y/N. You have to come, now!”
She straightened her shirt and wrung her fearful hands together as she impatiently waited for him to make a move. She had expected his reaction to be more intense, but even in this distressing moment, he remained calm. He stood from his desk, pushing himself away from the table, and made his way toward the door, his feet moving quickly across the floor, coat left on the rack, abandoned.
Zhongli attempted to get information from the poor woman, but her worry and concern only made the statements that fell from her mouth … confusing.
“There was … uh, so they were caught in a fight? Uh, it’s bad, they … we need to get to the pharmacy, now.” The emotions that poured from her body made everyone turn as they passed by, and the long strides he took toward the pharmacy grew until the woman was practically running to keep up.
It was bad, so so bad - Zhongli did his best to listen as they explained to him the severity of your injuries
There was no way --- no way that you could have been hurt so badly, maybe they had the wrong person .. please
Zhongli pushed his way into the room. The first thing that hit him was the smell, the medicinal herbs, and mixtures that had been used in the healing process. His eyes found you and the pain in his chest grew, the worry, the anxiety, the dread, it surrounded him as if he were drowning.
Standing next to you, he carefully brushed your cheek, noting how the color seemed off. Your hand draped over your stomach and chest moving in a dreadfully slow rhythm as you breathe. As if you were made of glass, he reached for your hand before he took a seat in the chair. You felt as cold and lifeless as the creaking wood he rested in, and, as much as he tried to push it away, the thought of you never waking up clouded his mind.
Pressing your lifeless fingers to his lips, the tears from his eyes mixed with the frantic, desperate pleas in his head for this not to be true.
It had been days without any change. Zhongli’s world had stopped, he couldn’t bring himself to work, the tea that once warmed his chest only brought him displeasure, food no longer held flavor. His life was constant prayer and filling your room with items that would make you happy the moment you opened your eyes
perhaps, if he decorated it enough, you’d return to him - perhaps, if he called your name, you’d wake up - perhaps, if he exchanged his life for yours that would be enough
So, on the fifth day, when you still showed no signs of improvement and the truth that he had hidden in the far corners of his mind slipped into reality … he left your room an empty man
The sun was rising and Zhongli heard the lively chatter of birds as they greeted the day. Hand extended, he looked at his empty palm before gripping tightly the lonely light he couldn’t grasp. There was a disturbance behind him, but he’d been here for so long his mind blocked out the sound. It wasn’t worth getting hopeful over, for it never was the one thing that he wished for.
“Zhongli!” Someone shouted from down the hall, their voice colliding with the walls like an earthquake as they barreled toward him. Quickly, he turned and as the attendant burst into the room, the elation in their eyes and smile on their face told him everything he needed to understand. In an instant, the birds in their nest took flight as Zhongli dashed down the hallway to your room.
He cannot believe his eyes -- you shouldn’t be alive, how did you come back from that? - by all accounts, by all expert opinions you should have been a victim of your injury and yet, you were awake, you were finally awake and as perfect as you ever could be
And still -- here you are, healed, healthy, and completely unphased
He pushes his way through the confused and interested healers as they peek around the door into your room. Their voices mingling into one noise he doesn’t care to translate. Once he is through and his eyes meet yours, he wonders if this is how a mountain feels when miners set a blast at its base.
“Zhongli!” You shout and he nearly collapses from the sound of your voice. You launch yourself from the bed and leap into his arms, and for the first time in days, he feels your warmth. He cannot stop himself from holding you tightly, oh so tightly, against him. His hand running through your greasy hair, arm wrapped around your lower back as he hugs you. “Zh -- too tight.” You wheeze and he loosens his grip, slightly.
“I cannot understand …” He whispers, allowing you to pull back so you can look into his eyes, but he doesn’t let you go any further than that.
“I don’t know either. The last thing I remember was getting stabbed … then everything gets confusing.”
“There is no explanation for your recovery. I dare say, my dear, you shouldn’t be alive. Though,” He starts, pulling you back to his chest, “I am beyond grateful that you are.”
You laugh, the overflowing emotions in your body causing you to react in ways you didn’t expect. “I don’t know how … but I’m back.” He hugs you tighter and doesn't let you go no matter how many people filter in or come near the room to see the miracle of Bubu Pharmacy.
After the initial shock, and many spent days in each others company, you begin to investigate what had happened - and the reason not only surprised you both, but the outcome of it would change your life forever
He might not have known, but he was the primary reason and now, he could spend eons with you
It took hours to process the news. You were immortal? No longer would you age, no longer would sickness take you, injury or ailment be damned, you were a being of everlasting life. If anyone was more confused than you it was Zhongli. He never expected that his wishing, praying, begging would manifest itself into your immortality; as an ex-archon, he didn’t consider this a possibility. Still, as he looked at you, rested his hands on your legs, and fell into the gravity of your being, he imagined that this was your fate. A being as bright as you was bound to live forever.
You shifted, your body pressing closer to his, one leg draped over his thigh, you turned your head toward his neck and breathed in the smell that filled your dreams. “You know,” you began, looking up into his eyes. “I never told you this because I didn’t really understand it myself.” You picked at the blanket draped over you legs, averting your eyes.
“In the dark there was nothing - I remember crawling, stumbling through the pitch-black fog and I was … scared, but, every once in a while I heard this voice. It was soothing, it was calling me and I tried over and over again to find it. Then, after nearly giving up, I heard it again and when I looked up, you were standing in front of me. I heard you Zhongli …” You looked into his eyes, the tears already falling down your face, “It was you the whole time, it’s always been you - you led me through the darkness and brought me home.”
His thumb brushed across your cheek and you reached up to touch his hand. “You are the constant brightness which lights my way; without you, I was so lost.” Zhongli’s voice was strained and it stung your throat.
“We found each other, didn’t we?”
“We were destined to.”
Xiao
He’s seen so much in his life - the rise and fall of civilizations, the corruption of man, the shifting tides of power, and, no matter how turbulent it gets, he stays constant
When the two of you met, it was like any other day to him - you passed by his window as if you were looking through a shop, intrigued by what was being offered inside, and then you came day after day - he never understood your determination to get closer
Still, as the days turned into weeks, weeks into months, and after nearly a year went by and you wedged yourself into his uninterrupted life the thoughts of your mortality fluttered by like crystal flies
You were never meant to be a fixture in this world like he was … were you?
It was common for the two of you to be around, it was as if you were tethered by an invisible string. No matter how far apart you became, you’d always be reeled back in. So, it wasn’t unusual for you to assist him on his purges of miasma; you had proven yourself quite capable time and time again. As long as you kept yourself out of his way, paid attention to your surroundings, and kept your mask on, nothing was ever an issue.
Unfortunately, luck was not on your side today.
You were fighting a particularly difficult group, their miasmic poison seeped into the ground burning the grass below their feet and sending animals shrieking into the wilderness. You steadied yourself, pulling the mask tighter around your face and praying that it would hold the toxic mist at bay. To your right, you caught sight of the yaksha who had gifted the mask to you. Xiao leaped into the air over and over again as he pierced the ground and speared the sky with his anemo abilities. It was easy to get lost in him as he moved. He was ethereal in every possible aspect, but when he was fighting … there was no other way to describe it other than angelic.
In front of you, the sound of gargling and groaning caught your attention, and as quickly as you could you set off toward it.
Xiao never had to worry about you - he knew your moves, understood your thoughts as you cleansed the targets, could hear your heartbeat as if it was directly in his ear - he sensed you no matter where you were so if the need ever came where he had to act, he could
So when his side rocked and shuttered in pain and he knew it didn’t come from him, his actions turned violent to finish what he had started before rushing to where you were
When he found you, your blade slipping from the body of your enemy, hand pressed to your side as the crimson liquid seeped through your fingers, he felt, for the second time in his life, the air he was so skilled at commanding leave him
You fell, hand pressing into your side. You never knew blood could be so hot, or that pain like this was possible. Even though the blinding white light that covered your eyes as your body shuttered from the wound you still managed to cut down your enemy. Victory would remain yours even if the both of you had to go down for it.
“Y/N!” Xiao rushed to your side. Legs dropping underneath your body as you bent backward to alleviate the pain that wouldn’t go away.
“I may have been a bit careless.” You groaned, wincing at every movement you tried to make.
“Hold on.” Xiao cradled you in his arms, his incredible strength making it easy to lift you into the air.
“Holding …” You cough and cringe at the red spots that cover your hand when you pull it away.
He’s distressed, maybe more than you’ve ever seen him - all you can remember is reaching up to remove the mask from his face and seeing an expression that will haunt your dreams
There is a lot of noise around you and eventually, you get so annoyed at being kept awake that you sit up and shout at them to be quieter -- when you see their expressions and ask why they were staring at you like that only to be told that you were dead a while ago … you think it’s a joke
You have them explain it to you multiple times but no one fully understands why it happened … one second you were dead and the next you were awake
When Xiao walks in the room he looks like he’s seen a ghost -- his face is paler than it ever has been, his eyes wide and distressed but as soon as he realizes it's you …
“Xiao, please stop looking at me like that.” He’s so close to you, his eyes boring into your skin, fingers touching your body as if he can’t believe what he is seeing. Which, you think he has every right to be confused if you really were dead.
“What kind of magic is this?” He asked, looking at the healers before looking back at you. He grabs your wrist, the pulsation of your heart as it pounds against his fingers seems so real. The sound of your voice resonates in him the same way it always does, the warmth of your body seeps into his skin just the way it should, and every sign points to you being alive.
“Xia --- ah, oh.” You’re interrupted by his arms wrapping around your neck. You're shocked as Xiao doesn’t normally initiate contact with others, even with you he is more reserved, but, as he holds you close, you can feel how he shakes every once in a while. “I’m still here.” You reassure him but he doesn’t move.
After a few days, the two of you visit the only person who might have any idea what happened: Zhongli
Question after question you answer to the best of your ability and by the time he’s done you’re completely drained - he makes a pot of tea and the whole time he is quiet, he says nothing, expression still and patient - it makes you anxious and the stillness of the room seems to be affecting Xiao just as much
Once he pours you tea, eagerly you take it and let its soothing mixture warms your tired throat, he finally shares his thoughts
“Through my investigative inquiries, I can only assume one thing.” He said, sipping his tea while you looked onward, eagerly. “You, Y/N, are half-adeptus.”
“What!” You exclaim, nearly spitting the tea across the table.
“Your history lends me to believe that this is the truth. You state you cannot remember your childhood years, yes?”
“yeah, but a lot of people don’t remember all of that.”
“That may be true, but there are still hints of memories which linger. Even with this mask that Xiao has crafted for you, a normal human wouldn’t be able to breathe near miasma. So, you have to be half-Adeptus.” He takes another sip of tea, his face never changing, eyes closed and reverent.
“... half-Adeptus …” The words seem foreign to you as if you shouldn’t be speaking them. You look at Xiao but he’s been incredibly quiet this whole time. “So what does this mean?”
“It means your normal mortal life is one of the past, now, you will exist in the world of Adeptus and spirits, as you were born to be.”
“I don’t know how to do that …”
“Yes, you will need a guide.”
Xiao stood suddenly, his action startling you and only you. “I’ll do it. I will … I can guide you.” He looked down at you and for the first time in days, you felt relieved.
“So it’s been decided then.” Zhongli’s words linger in the air as two immortals welcome a third.
Dainsleif
A lonely existence is what it means to be immortal - the slow movement of time as it drifts by somehow flashes in an instant when it’s locked in memory - there are countless times that he’s returned to a familiar place only to find that it’s a stranger to him - so he never gets attached, he learned that the hard way many many years ago
And yet, you wouldn’t let up - every time he appeared you seemed to find him and though he knew it was better to let you fade into dust as so many other things in his life had, he couldn’t keep himself from you
Perhaps, he thought to himself, it was okay to connect with a light he knew would eventually dim - and after 500 years of loneliness he had become weak
He stepped through the halls of your home, the creaky structure, soft light, and comfortable atmosphere like a magnet to his heart. Try as he might, he couldn’t pull himself away from this attraction. The walk to your study was short, as you had spent many years converting the space into a place of respite, it was one of the first things one would pass as you welcomed them into your home.
Standing in the doorway, he leaned against the frame with arms crossed and looked in on you. Your focus fully on the work in front of you, your hands moving to fuss with your hair, your face, and the collar of your shirt. He had spent so long watching you from afar that he often forgot the benefits of being this close.
“Dain … you’re doing that thing again.” You announce, eyes still directed to the pages spread across the table.
“Am I?” He knew, of course, he knew that he was watching you with an intensity that set your skin on fire, but he had lived so many years as an observer it was a hard habit to break.
“Yes.” You chuckle, resting your hand under your chin and, finally, glancing at him. All he wanted was those eyes. “Welcome back.”
“Yes, I am back.”
He knew you were diligent, that you were so incredibly thoughtful in everything you did - you rarely put yourself in places where the danger would linger, so he never had to worry about you getting hurt in those ways -- what worried him more was the enemies he had. Even though you reassured him time and time again that it was okay -- he never let anyone see you two together, it wasn’t safe
You had grown used to the sensation of him shifting in and out of phase, you could almost tell where he would appear from at this point, and you always knew when he was watching you from afar - the way your skin reacted told you his eyes were on you somewhere
There was something comforting about having him around, and if you ever were in real danger he would be there to protect you
So how could you have known of the danger that was headed your way when it looked so incredibly innocent?
You wandered through the streets of Mondstadt, your once full bag now empty after selling all of your books to the shopkeeper. Ever since you were little you wanted to be a writer and now you were finally making your way there. It was nice that someone would buy your stories and, even if only a few people read them, you were still excited to see a copy floating around the city.
The smells and lively calls of vendors selling their wares pulled you from your plan of starting your next work, and even though you would scold yourself later, you tried to take in the sights and sounds around you. I do need a break, you thought as you looked at the lovely, well-taken care of flowers at Floral Whisper.
“I’d like one of these.” You ask, pointing at the shining blue lamp grass. Its color and glow remind you of the one person who managed to steal your heart. As you walked away, flower pressed to your lips to take in the smell, you nearly ran into a man in your absent-minded state. “Excuse me.” You exclaim, grabbing onto his arm and holding it tightly.
“Ah … so sorry.” He expressed, reaching out to stabilize you.
“It was my fault, I wasn’t paying attention.”
“No worries .. oh, that’s a lovely flower.” He pointed to your lamp grass, his eyes interested and demeanor welcoming.
“Yes, it’s a favorite of mine.” The thought of what it represented made you smile and, even though you were still in the middle of a conversation, you found yourself distracted again.
“It looks quite striking.”
“Oh, yes. Anyway, I’m very sorry. I’ll pay better attention on my way home.”
“Please do, wouldn’t want to get hurt.” He commented, and it was then that you noticed a strange fruit in his hand. It caught your curiosity and since he asked you a question you found yourself returning the exchange.
“That’s a strange fruit, I’ve never seen it before.” You asked, peering at it.
“Ah, this is a white apple, you’ve never seen one of these?”
“No, can’t say that I have. What does it taste like?”
“It’s very sweet, like oddly sweet … you know,” He extends the fruit to you, the sun flashing off the smooth surface, “You can have it. Consider it an apology for tripping you.”
“But I ran into you…”
“It’s okay, maybe you can look at it as my wish for you to have a safe trip home?” Hesitantly, you reach for the fruit. There is something strange about the way it feels in your hand but you don’t pay much attention to it.
“Well, thank you. That’s very kind of you.”
“Don’t mention it! Maybe, if we meet again, you can tell me if you like the taste.” He smiles and waves at you before stepping through the front gate. Pressing the lamp grass to your face once again, you stare at the apple as you make your way back home.
When you get home, you place the flower in a small vase before turning your attention to the apple - it’s shining so brightly, even in your dimly lit home and, after running it under cold water, you decide to take a bite
It’s incredibly crisp, the skin cracking as you sink your teeth into it, and just like he said, the sweetness of its insides fill your mouth like a bowl of candy - it’s almost too much but every time you think you’re done you’ve found yourself back in for another taste until the only thing left is the core
Placing the core on the counter you turn to wash the sticky residue off of your hands - the water starts to shift, your vision wobbles and your body feels strange and, as you reach for the faucet handle, your fingers slip over the metal and your legs give way
You recall calling out a name as your body collides with the hardwood
Dainsleif sighs as he vanquishes yet another abyss mage. It’s been months since he’s gotten any leads and the frustration is starting to show. Turning, he steps through a portal leaving the darkness of the domain behind and breathing in the welcoming smell of your home on the other side. He expects to see you when he passes through, but instead, he feels a heavy atmosphere, and his anxiety peaks.
“Y/N?” He calls out in the quiet house, his voice falling like heavy stones in a river. He searches every room before returning to the kitchen, his eyes scanning the space. Something catches his attention on the counter and as he makes his way to the object, he sees your lifeless body on the floor.
His normally quick responses seem chained to the wall, his feet won’t move, his lungs won’t take in air, his mind has turned off and the once-pounding heart which beat just for you, shattered. His movements shaky, unsteady he makes his way toward you, and as soon as he can, he reaches for your hand. When it flops with the pull of gravity he knows you aren’t sleeping.
The anger, the heartbreak, the devastation seep into his veins as he reaches for your face but he cannot bring himself to touch you. Instead, he looks up at the counter, his boots pounding heavily on the floor until he reaches his destination. That’s when he knows. This was his fault, he brought death to your door by being at your side. His greatest fear had come true.
“Mmm.” The sound makes him freeze, and slowly his eyes move down to your body. The moment he sees you shift, your fingers twitch he's lifting you off the floor and carrying you to the bedroom. Gently, he lays you on the bed and sits at your side. Fingers stroking your face and eyes searching desperately for another sign of life.
“Y/N?” He whispers.
“Dain?” At the sound of your voice, his head drops onto your arm, his hand resting against your cheek. “What’s going on? Are you okay?” You try to sit up but can’t.
“This isn’t possible, how can this be possible?”
“Dainsleif …” He pushes himself up and you see the confusion in his expression. “You look upset, are you okay?” Reaching your hand to his face you push back his hair and run your thumb across his cheek. He sighs and scoops you into his arms again, your confusion only growing, as well as the butterflies in your stomach.
After multiple explanations he tries one more time to tell you what had happened - he explained the apple you ate was a Ley Line apple. The fruit of a Ley Line tree is incredibly rare and toxic beyond measure - still, some believe that if you consume the fruit of a ley line tree you will gain immortality, though all accounts show no one has ever survived
So, if the rumors were true -- there was no way to know unless you decided to fling yourself from a cliff and see if that killed you or not, and Dain wasn’t inclined to let you try
As the years went by and you stopped aging, sickness abandoned you, and injuries never seemed to affect you - the rumors of the ley line seemed to prove true, at least for you
Dain was conflicted: he was sad that you were cursed to live an existence of immortality, to be like him, but he was selfishly happy that it was you and, while it would take you a while to adjust to your new life, he was proud to be the one with you
“If … if you really are immortal …” Dain spoke into his hands, the pressure of them against his lips reassuring.
“Does this mean … that I can be with you forever?”
He looked at you, his deep, rich blue eyes filled with honesty, “It does mean you’ll be alive forever.”
“An eternity seems unfathomable …”
“Yes, it will be filled with hardships.” He answered your questions but barely felt present in the conversation.
“Dainsleif.” You reach for his hand, wrapping your fingers around his. “I’ve known, I’ve always known that one day I’d leave you alone. That one day you’d walk in a world without me, and now …” You feel the warmth of your tears fall down your face as you talk, the realization filling you with elation, “ now you don’t have to be alone anymore. Never, do you hear me?”
Even though he didn’t respond, you caught the slight smile and sigh of relief as he placed his lips to your fingers.

Xiao, Zhongli and Venti with an immortal s/o
“Sooo 👀 can i request so some fluff hc for venti, xiao and zhongli with an immortal s/o?”
thank you so much for requesting!! this is my first time writing for more than one character at a time so it was a challenge lol thank you sm!!
Xiao
Xiao never understood the importance of time. Days, months, even years feel like nothing when you’re immortal. What a funny thing that is, immortality. He knows normal humans would do anything for it, and he despises them for that. Nothing so great came free, he knew that well. He was freed from tortures, only to get tormented by karma. He could still hear the voices and screams calling for help from tortured souls, these still haunt him daily. But the worst moments come when he sees that figure, that person who he once considered close. So close he could use the human word “soulmate”, if he believed in those, to describe who that person meant to him.
Many centuries back he met you, such a gentle person who got to break down his hard walls. A smile, a touch, a kiss. That’s all it took. So many meaningless years, and he never once encountered a person as kind yet strong like you. Someone who made the daily nightmares cease, with a simple smile and brush of fingers.
He remembers your last words like it was the day before. You were on top of one of the tall stones in Huaguang Stone Forest, Xiao laying his head on your lap and you placing small qingxin flowers on his hair. He wouldn’t allow anyone do that to him ever, but in the end, you were you. And you were different.
“Xiao” you called, once you were done placing the flowers. He opened his eyes and muttered a “hm?” in response. “I have to leave soon. Mondstadt calls me”
He sat up.
“What do you mean?”
“By tomorrow morning, I’ll be on my way back to Mondstadt” you said, quietly standing up.
He stood up too.
“When will I see you again?” he asked, now not being able to look at you.
“I don’t know” you said, reaching out for his hand and taking it. You placed a soft kiss on his knuckles, and he felt himself calm down at the gesture for a moment.
“I meant it when I said I’ll love you forever, Xiao” you said, finally locking eyes with him. You had teary eyes, he dreaded to see you like that. If it were up to him, he would swallow every bit of pain in your body and soul, just to see you smile.
And with that, you disappeared. As quickly as you broke down his walls, you disappeared just as quick the next day. Days, months and years became even more meaningless, but somehow he felt them longer. He missed you every day, he whispered to the moon every night, wishing that some archon would hear and bring you back to him. He knew you were like him, but he never heard from you again. Were you able to finally cross to the other side? He tried to erase those thoughts from his mind.
He later found himself in that very same stone, the one in which he last saw you. New Qingxin flowers blossomed, and they reminded him of you. He sat down, staring at the horizon. But then, he felt a strange swift of wind, and a presence behind him. He quickly stood up, ready to put his mask on and kill whoever dared to interrupt his solitude. But he didn’t. The mask in his hand dropped to the floor, next to the flowers.
“I’m back” you said, with a shy smile.
“You’re back” he said, more to himself than to you. Were you really there?
His question was soon answered, once you stepped closer and pulled him in a hug. He found himself wrapping his arms around you, holding you as close as he could, while trying to hold back his tears.
“I’m sorry I took so long, my beloved” you said as you locked your eyes with his. You grabbed his hand and held it, but you never once let go of the hug.
“I’m here to stay now” you whispered.
Zhongli
“You need to stop playing with people’s hearts” Zhongli said, as he sipped on his tea and looked at you questioningly. You rolled your eyes in response and put your focus back on your potion. A few petals from the most exotic flower in Teyvat, a little bit of juice made from vines and a teaspoon of slime condensate.
“Sometimes mortals need a little push in the right direction” You said, finishing up the mix and transferring it to a small bottle made of glass. “Plus, we’ve been here for centuries, I’m bored and I need a hobby”
“I don’t think that messing with human’s love lives can be considered a hobby. I don’t think it’s morally correct” he said.
“You’re very dramatic. I can feel the true desires of every being that touches the soil in Teyvat, and if I sense that the desire is mutual, I simply work my magic” You said, sitting back on your chair next to the tall man.
“Can’t you let them figure it out by themselves?” He asked.
“That’s no fun Zhongli” You said, finishing up the sweet perfume-potion you were creating.
You and Zhongli have been friends for centuries. You met when you moved to Liyue as the representative of the Dendro Archon, someone you really looked up to. Zhongli was kind enough to make you feel at home, and soon became friends with the Geo Archon. Though you must admit, you always wished it was something more.
Maybe that’s why you picked up this “hobby” of yours. Unrequited love is something painful and mortals only live a short life, you believe they should live it fully, if possible.
“Are you alright?” Zhongli asked, interrupting your thoughts with a concerned look on his face. You didn’t realize you had a sad look on yours.
“Oh? Yeah of course” You said, quickly brushing it off and proceeding decorating the small glass bottle.
“Y/n-“ he started, placing a hand on top of yours in order to get your attention. “I’ve known you for a long time. I know when something is wrong”
It was funny. He knew you like the back of his hand, he knew how to read you since the first time he laid his eyes on you. Yet he never found out how you truly felt about him, how your heart made like a million flips whenever he did something as simple as hold your hand, or brush a hair away from your face. All these little things and gestures, have been making you swoon over your closest friend for years, centuries even.
“Time and love are strange concepts, aren’t they?” You asked, looking straight at him. Here goes nothing, you thought.
“I believe those are rather simple concepts”
“You can spend a lifetime with someone, know every habit and expression but you don’t know how they truly feel about you” You said staring at him, searching for any hint that indicated he knew what you were talking about. But you saw nothing. Who were you kidding? He’s just your friend, has been for a long time.
You let out a defeated laugh, standing up and letting go of his hand. “Forgive me, I don’t really know what i’m saying” you said, grabbing the potion and starting to leave. But you felt his hand on your wrist, stopping your movements.
“You said you felt the desires of every being that stepped foot on Teyvat’s soil, am I right?” he asked, looking at you. You nodded. “Does it work on me?”
“You wanted to get close to me, as a friend”
“My apologies my dearest y/n, but I think your blessing is wrong” he said, standing up and holding your hand once again. “I did want to get closer to you as a friend at first, but not any longer. I’ve been observing mortals for a while as well, on my daily walks through Liyue Harbor, and I think I finally understood my feelings”
You were sure that if Zhongli listened close enough, he would hear the fast beating of your heart.
“I’ve been waiting for you to use your love potion on me, my dear y/n. I’m sure it wouldn’t have worked anyways since I believe it would take a lot of effort to make an effective potion that could work on me. But it would have given me the excuse to tell you how I really feel” he said.
“How do you feel then?” you asked him, looking up at the tall man.
“I think I’m very lucky to have you by my side, and it makes me want to travel to the Dendro nation and personally thank the Archon for assigning you to Liyue. I also want you to still be by my side for the centuries to come, if you’re okay with that” he said, lowering his voice by the end.
You acted before you could process your thoughts. You stood on your tippy toes and kissed his cheek gently, never letting go of his hand. He liked you, he felt the same way about you. It was real.
“I’m okay with that” you replied.
Venti
It was almost noon, almost an hour after the original time you accorded with Venti to meet. You planned a picnic date by the big tree near the statue of the Seven, your favorite spot. The same spot which later, became Venti’s favorite spot as well.
He wasn’t a person who would jump straight to conclusions. You were late. Maybe you fell asleep, maybe you couldn’t find the guitar you promised to bring so you could play a duet. Being late doesn’t mean something bad happened, right?”
He decided to wait a few more moments, but once the sun set, he had enough. He went out to try and find you. He went to your house, but noticed the door was locked and no one was inside. “They left” he thought.
He slowly but surely started to get desperate. Where were you? Were you hurt? Did you get lost somehow? He went to Angel’s Share, and not even Master Diluc had seen you. If Venti wasn’t in such a panicked state, he would have noticed the rare concerned and worried look Diluc had on his face.
If any traveler walked by literally any road in Mondstadt, they would soon encounter a big rush of wind. Venti went from here to there as fast as he could, trying to find you.
He soon enough found you in Stormbearer Mountains, fighting hilichurls and two pyro mages. You looked tired, sweat covering your body and your clothes were dirty. It was obvious that this has been going on for a while. You gripped your sword as hard as you could, and kept fighting. Why didn’t you call for him? With no exception, Venti tells you daily to call for him if you ever encounter a problem. It’s not that he doesn’t think you’re strong, oh no, he believed you were the strongest mortal in Teyvat. But in the end, to him you were still a mortal. Fragile and over-sensitive. He often told you to call his name, that the wind will carry it and he will appear there to help you out. So why didn’t you?
“y/n!” he screamed, once he laid his eyes on you. You turned around and saw a rush on wind, and felt his presence. What you didn’t feel though, was the pyro attack coming from one of the mages. The mage summoned three pyro artifacts that surrounded you, and burnt you. You felt your energy slip away, your head dizzy and your body burning. Then, you felt the cold wind, Venti quickly finishing off the mages and the remaining hilichurls.
Venti thought it was over. You were kneeled down, burnt skin, gasping for air. It was over, you were going to die. He felt his eyes water and fear running through his veins. He wrapped his arms around you, making you lean on his chest.
“Don’t leave me” he begged. “please”
“My dear, I don’t think I can” you said, letting out a short laugh.
“Please stay strong, I think I can carry you to the cathedral but you need to hold very still so-“ he started saying, now fully crying but you interrupted him by putting a hand on his cheek and wiping his tears with your thumb.
“I’m serious, I don’t think I can leave anyways. Venti, I literally can’t die.” you said, with a laugh and slowly standing up.
“You... you’re immortal?” he asked, looking up at you, not being able to leave the floor.
You nodded. “I thought you knew”
“I hate you” he said, standing up and wiping away his tears. “I do”
“No you don’t. But you’re cute though!” you said, grabbing his face and kissing the tip of his nose. “I’m very sorry I’m late though, my commission took longer than I thought but let me compensate you with dinner and a bottle of wine”
“But you’re still burnt?” he asked you, concern still in his face.
“Oh don’t worry about that, it will rip out when I start walking. I have healthy skin underneath” you said, like it was the most normal thing in the world.
“Why do I feel like this is not your first time getting so hurt?” he asked letting out a soft chuckle, suddenly feeling lighter now that he knows you’re okay and will probably be okay for a long long while.
“Eh, been there done that a few times” you simply said, taking his hand and walking back to the city of Mondstadt.

Hiii! I saw your HC requests are open. 🥰 May I ask for Kazuha, Xiao and Venti with a jealous S/O. Some fluff please. Thank youuu 💞
You’re my first one, anon! <3 Thank you for the request. Hope you like it! (ALSO REALLY GLAD TO START OUT WITH THE ANEMO BOYS <33)
KAZUHA, XIAO, and VENTI with a Jealous S/O Headcanons (GN! Reader)
Tumblr media
• Hear me out, this boy will either tease you or full on shower you with affection.
• You were walking through Liyue Harbor with Kazuha, visiting some restaurants and looking at some jewelry. (cause why not, lol)
• ...and while doing that, a sweet florist came by with flowers.
• Kazuha thought it would be nice to get some for his S/O. <3
• While you were sidetracked, he escaped from you to get some flowers. Knowing him, he'd know what kind of flowers you like.
• The florist kept on getting close to him each time he scooted away from her.
• You turned around from the display of jewelry, just to see Kazuha standing next to this girl, who was holding his arm.
• bro that was supposed to be you wth
• Kazuha pulled him arm out of the girl's hand and glanced at you, noticing your bitter expression.
• He instantly made his way towards you with the Qingxin flowers in his hand.
• "My dear, are you alright?" He then thought that maybe you were... jealous?
• "You were jealous, were you? Haha..." He said with a chuckled.
• When you made it back to the alcor, you both had some alone time as he gave you the most softest kisses on your cheek and lips. He'd cuddle you and would practically do anything to make up for it. May even tease you a bit. <333
"I'll never leave you for someone else, dear. That's a promise. Now, how about some haikus?"
Tumblr media
• Tbh, I don't know how this adeptus would feel like-
• You and Xiao were always together if Xiao was off duty. Usually, you'd either chill at the higher balcony or go out and wipe out some hilichurl camps Verr Goldet asked you to.
• Today, you two were sitting on the balcony. The leaves from the trees flew your guys's way peacefully through the wind.
• You felt hungry and quite thirsty, so you asked Xiao if he wanted anything. He replied with "maybe some water."
• After leaving the Adeptus alone for the time being, you made your way to the kitchen where Smiley Yanxiao was cooking.
• As you were waiting for your order, you heard two female voices that were about your age.
• "I heard that an adeptus lives here. You think we'll see them?" "I don't know, but if it's a boy, he must be the finest around."
• The fact that you, the adeptus in question's S/O, heard that? Bold.
• Smiley Yanxiao handed you over a tiny meal with two glasses of water right after.
• As you made your way up to the balcony, those words kept haunting you. In fact, an unrealistic thought entered your head. What if he left you? Left you for some other person?
• "What's with that look? Did someone hurt you?" You hear from Xiao, who noticed your expression.
• You explained what you heard when you were waiting for the food and drinks.
• After you sat on the balcony railing, he got in front of you and went on his tippy toes to kiss you. He'll never admit it, but he kinda likes it when you get jealous because it shows how much you care about him. <33
"It's weird you'd think that, but I'll be here if you need me."
Tumblr media
• Holy BARBATOS this guy will be a pain in the a-
• Venti had some bard business in the city at the time, so you were left alone.
• You were going to visit Majorie and look at the new treasures she had there, but you saw Venti performing not too far away.
• In fact, he had just finished. Everyone cheered and left, except this one girl. She seemed to be asking him questions and was getting to close for YOUR comfort.
• Venti, being a cheerful and and slightly oblivious person, he didn't really mind.
• But now you were in one of your moods, where you had a pouty look on your face. Majorie will be there later, you can go then.
• "Windblume~! How come you didn't visit your bard after his performance?" You hear the bards voice as he approached you.
• "I don't know. Why do you ask?"
• He instantly knew that you were jealous by the pout on your face. Also, he already knew you saw him talk to this citizen. But it's so fun teasing you!
• ok venti ur making ur S/O pissed
• "Awh... Is my Windblume jealous?" He teased.
• After all the teasing, you two went to Windrise. Venti played a little tune for you, lulling you sleep with your back on the tree.
• After he moved your head to his lap, his fingers ran through your hair playfully.
"Don't think that this teasing is over, Windblume~."

Texts from the Lost Tomb part 6.1
🎶 Back on the bullshit I never got off🎶
Is this another unnecessary story arc?? With three sections??
Yes.
Wushanju Crew Chat
Wang Meng: You know, I’m someone who appreciates consistency in my day. My life is pleasant, very few issues indeed if you ignore the big ones. And yet. Yet here we are. With unresolved messes at the end of a day.
Wang Pangzi: SOMETHIN YOU NEED TO SAY MARY POPPINS
Wang Meng: We need to talk about Huo Daofu and the glittery bead curtain.
Wang Pangzi: MY FAVE TEEN WIZARD SERIES
Wu Xie: did you turn on that suggested word thingy lol
What glittery bead curtain
Wang Meng: I closed the shop at 6:00pm this evening on the dot. I locked all of the doors in and out of the shop very carefully, especially in light of recent events. The hall leading to the back office was empty. I filed the day’s paperwork, updated and sent emails, and then spent an extra hour organizing receipts and dusting. When I came back out, there were glittery iridescent bead curtains over the front entrance to the shop.
What could this mean?
Wu Xie: uh that you need to spend less time at work?
Wang Pangzi: LOOKS LIKE WE GOT ONE FOR THE DETECTIVES. THE MYSTERY OF THE BEDAZZLED THRESHOLD COMMENCES
Wu Xie: I think we can be relatively secure in thinking a glittery bead curtain isn’t a hostile threat
Wang Pangzi: SAYS YOU
I REMEMBER YE OLDE EXPLORATION TIMES HOW FAST THINGS GOT FURIOUS
BEANBAG CHAIRS SET AFLAME AND LEFT ON DOORSTEPS AS A WARNING
GLITTERBOMBS FOR DAYS
PANIC AT THE DISCO
Wang Meng: Ugh, forget it. I should have just taken them down, regardless of who they belong to.
Zhang Qiling: They are not mine.
Wang Pangzi: A BOLD STATEMENT COMING FROM OUR PRIME SUSPECT
SOMEONE QUICK GO DRAW CHALK AROUND THE DOORWAY TO MARK THE SCENE OF THE CRIME
Wang Meng: Do we know anyone who *would* sneak in and put those up? For whatever reason, legal or not? Even as a joke?
Wang Pangzi: ARE YOU SERIOUSLY ASKING WHETHER WE KNOW ANYONE WHO IS CHAOTIC, AN OUTLAW, A PRANKSTER AND/OR SNEAKS INTO PLACES
BECAUSE THAT WOULD MEAN OUR SUSPECT LIST IS LITERALLY EVERYONE WE KNOW EXCEPT FOR YOU.
Wu Xie: okay let’s think about this; for starters, I didn’t break into my own shop
Wang Meng: You would be in danger of doing some work in the process, that’s true.
Wang Pangzi: LOL
Wu Xie: ANYWAY let’s keep going. For example, Xiao Ge would only break in somewhere for a good reason. Xiao Ge, did you do this?
Zhang Qiling: No.
Wu Xie: okay who’s next
Wang Pangzi: YOU REALLY MISSED YOUR CALLING IN INTERROGATION TIANZHEN
REALLY PUT THE SCREWS TO HIM
IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE;)
Zhang Qiling: How can we be certain *you* didn’t do it?
Wang Meng: Admittedly that was my guess, too.
Wang Pangzi: WOW I SEE HOW IT IS
BLAME PANGZI AS USUAL
ANYWAY HOW DOES HUO DAOFU FIT INTO THIS
Wu Xie: Oh yeah him! Oops I got distracted
Wang Pangzi: UR ENTIRE HISTORY IN A NUTSHELL
Wu Xie: Ugh fuck off
Wang Meng what abt Huo Daofu??
Zhang Qiling: ?
Wu Xie: oh sorry xiaoge I didn’t realize you wouldn’t have spent much time around him last year
He and I go way back
Zhang Qiling: Way back where?
Babysitters Club Chat
Wang Pangzi: I CANNOT BELIEVE HE IS BUYING YOUR INNOCENT ACT
IF YOU EVER TURN TO EVIL WE ARE FUCKED
Zhang Qiling: ?
Wang Pangzi: YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHO HUO DAOFU IS
YOU WERE EXTREMELY POLITE AND BORDERLINE FRIENDLY TOWARDS HIM
Zhang Qiling: I wanted him to feel welcome. I wanted to be sure he understands he has a place here. A specific place.
Wang Pangzi: FOR A SILENT GUY YOU ARE A MASTER AT SUBTLE POWER PLAYS IM ALL TINGLY
LMAO THE IDEA OF WU XIE LEAVING YOU FOR HUO DAOFU IS HILARIOUS AND ALSO NOPE
Zhang Qiling: Rationally, I understand that.
Main Chat
Wang Meng: Huo Daofu is coming for the weekend—didn’t Wu Xie tell you? Wu Xie asked me to check in a week ahead so we could start getting ready for his arrival
Wu Xie: oh yeah I did do that
Wang Meng: Fortunately I know you and so I already went ahead and took care of everything.
Re: the trip
He made a deal with Wu Xie’s doctor that he would do periodic checkups on him here at Wushanju
Bc Wu Xie hates being in the hospital
And frankly the hospital hates him too
Wang Pangzi: FAMILIARITY BREEDS CONTEMPT LOL
I FORGOT HUO DAOFU WAS DOING THAT
A VERY CHIVALROUS GESTURE
WOULDNT YOU SAY
XIOAGE
Zhang Qiling: Is it safe for him to be here with a criminal loose on the premises?
Wu Xie: Right, back to the curtain! Let’s focus on the curtain, hmm?
Wang Pangzi: I AM SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS WEEKEND.
ALSO WE CAN RULE OUT XIAO BAI FOR THE CURTAIN SHE JUST SENT A SELFIE FROM NORWAY COVERED IN GREEN SLIME WITH ZERO CONTEXT, UR PROTEGE INDEED
Wu Xie: okay but who else would do something so oddly charming yet illegal and—wait.
Snake Eyes Chat
Wu Xie: hey, Glasses hasn’t been in touch lately right?
Li Cu: uh nope
Unless u count the outdated memes
Why, is money or Xie Yuchen missing
Or is this curtain related, I saw Wang Meng’s tweet
Wu Xie: haha no nothing to worry about really
(I mean maybe? but who knows)
Wang Meng is probably just getting a little paranoid in his old age
Li Cu: better than getting reckless and stupid as hell in ur old age
Wu Xie: …hey:(
Unknown Number: Li Cu, we discussed this.
Wu Xie: ????????
Li Cu: *sigh* fine, reckless and stupid as heck
Unknown Number: …close enough.
Wu Xie: EXCUSE who is that
Madame, Sir, Non-Binary Tree Spirit, etc—whomst the fuck
Are you
Li Cu is underage FYI
So Im staying on this chat
Li Cu: okay first of all, it’s not like that
Second of all I’m literally not underage I s2g
u threw the embarrassing surprise bday party, okay so u should remember
And C, that’s my counselor and I invited her. She wanted to meet u and I knew u wouldn’t agree to a visit so I added her to our chat
we have been discussing u
Wu Xie: Oh wow!!!!!!!
What a surprise:)
hi so nice to meet you:)
Main Chat:
Wu Xie: RED FUCKING ALERT
FUCK THE CURTAIN FUCK THE VISIT
IVE BEEN TRICKED INTO FAMILY THERAPY BY A SMUG TEENAGER WHO TEXTS UNKNOWN NUMBERS
Wang Meng: I assume that means something to someone here?
Not my problem? Good.
Wang Pangzi: AHAHAHA GOD I LOVE LI CU
HES LIKE ADORABLE KARMA FOR ALL THE SHIT YOUVE PUT ME THROUGH
IM RAISING HIS ALLOWANCE
Wu Xie: wait i give him an allowance
has he been collecting on two allowances??
Zhang Qiling: Three. I knew about both of yours.
Snake Eyes Chat
Wu Xie: so uh may I ask your name?
Unknown Number: you can call me Ms. Lee.
Now, if you’re comfortable talking in this format, why don’t you tell me how things have been going?
Wu Xie: oh everything is normal and fine and safe as usual, why do you ask:)
Li Cu: I heard about ur necklace thing. nice of you to NOT mention it.
another dangerous adventure. again. prick.
Ur lucky your cool boyfriend cares about you so much or you’d have already died like ten years ago
Wu Xie: lol try twenty years ago
Li Cu: That isn’t funny.
Unknown Number: …What?
Wu Xie: shit ur right, okay that was a bit glib, my apologies.
…I use humor as a coping mechanism?
Unknown Number: and Li Cu, how do you feel about that?
Li Cu: he doesn’t even know what that phrase means
He doesn’t cope, like ever
In fact
It’s kind of why we met
Which is a funny story in retrospect tbh
Wu Xie: haha what are you talking about sweetie hahaha need I remind you of certain anecdotes that could idk send me to jail maybe lmao
Unknown Number: …You know, perhaps an in-person meeting might be more effective?
Wu Xie: haha such a nice idea but why
Main Chat
Wu Xie: If I go to jail, I’ll have to create alliances for protection, right, that’s how it works on tv
Who do we know who spends time in jail
Other than Hei Yangjing, he’s only ever there for like 12 hours and i suspect he just gets himself arrested bc he enjoys the breaking out process
Also how’s the curtain case coming along
Zhang Qiling: Has someone threatened you?
Wu Xie: well not yet but soon I’m sure
Wang Pangzi: WHERE WAS THIS PARANOIA WHEN WE GOT TAKEN TO THE TEA HOUSE HUH
Snake Eyes Minus Your Fucking Therapist Chat
Li Cu: okay how tf did u pull off spy and undercover shit
u are sus as hell
Wu Xie: damn son is it pick on Wu Xie night
I missed the flyers or I would’ve invited my uncles
Also re: the curtain it’s been mostly solved
Li Cu: I’m not your son, idiot.
Wu Xie: …oh. Sorry, sorry, you’re right, bad choice of words, haha
Forget i said anything
Delete this chat even
Li Cu: shit I meant
Legally, biologically, I meant—
shit
…I turn into an asshole as a coping mechanism?
Wu Xie: oh that’s all okay! I have to go do something else now let me know if you need anything okay kid thanks!
Li Cu: goddamn it calm down who’s the kid here
lemme organize my thoughts so I can articulate my emotions fuckin healthily or w/e
Ugh maybe for like one afternoon we could go to Ms. Lee together? She knows how to word stuff
Wu Xie: uh…okay.
Li Cu: Anyway you don’t need to worry abt jail
As if you would survive prison for one day you’d piss off half the place in like an hour or less
I gave Ms. Lee the heavily edited version of the desert highway to hell roadtrip and i discussed it more in terms of like “nightmarish but still wouldn’t take any of it back”
Well maybe the sand
that shit was everywhere
Wu Xie: oh kiddo. It’s fine, really…You don’t have to explain yourself to me.
Li Cu: no, no it’s just
I do technically have a dad
who is an asshole. Being a son doesn’t really mean shit to me bc it sucked.
So you need to stop backing down just cuz ur guilty abt stuff. I’m really really glad ur not my dad in a good way. Do u get what I mean there
Where’s the mafia widower I followed into hell, huh
Wu Xie: Ur a good kid, despite my influence. I’m really glad you have someone to talk to after everything I…after everything. Wow this talking through feelings thing is kind of weird but nice ur right
Jfc no wonder it took me and xiaoge so long to—you know what, we won’t get into that
Li Cu: ew tmi
Also re: this week’s recent necklace fuckery
I moved my stuff here, I live here now
So you can’t die anymore
Or else…Idk I don’t have a threat planned
anyways abt the curtain
Wu Xie: oh my god, kid…kid you have no idea
I am in tears.
Li Cu: see this is why I can’t be nice to you I can sense the hallmark channel from here
Ugh don’t be sad in ur room that’s dumb
Go hug Pangzi or something
Maybe delete this chat
Or the curtain thing
Focus on the curtain thing
Just stfu and go away
Wu Xie: <3 screenshotting this <3
Li Cu: I take back everything I said. This is why Xiao Ge sleeps on the roof. I hope the ghosts of the Wangs put up that curtain to strangle you somehow. Go die in a stupid way, it’ll suit you.
Wu Xie: lol don’t worry I’m not gonna embarrass you with it or anything
Main Chat
Wu Xie: omg guys look how cute my kid is *sending screenshot*
Wang Pangzi: I MEAN
HE IS WISHING YOU DEATH
BUT SURE
CUTE I GUESS
Wu Xie: no but read the whole thing:):):)
Zhang Qiling: It is indeed very hard to remain angry with you. And you are welcome to join me on the roof.
Wang Pangzi: UH NOPE
NOT WHENI HAD TO BLEACH THE COUNTER IN THE KITCHEN
DONT TRAUMATIZE THE EARLY BIRDS THEYRE ALREADY FREAKED OUT BY U YA HOODIE CRYPTID
Wu Xie: ok true but babe ur like a sexy cryptid
Wang Meng: so, are we just accepting that there is a glittery curtain of unknown origin, and Huo Daofu is going to have to see it while he’s waiting for you at Wushanju bc you’re going to family therapy?
Wu Xie: right
Wang Pangzi: SHOULDA TAKEN EARLY RETIREMENT HUH
Wang Meng: I’m going to go dust something.
Unnamed Chat:
Unknown number: so the curtain…
Unknown number 2: yep, not my best work but I kinda panicked last minute u know
Unknown number: what is in the water at Wushanju that makes everyone dumb and attractive
Unknown number 2: relax they’ll figure it out

How Should It Be - Xiao Gui/Wang Linkai One Shot
[a/n: ah yes back at it again with another cringey one shot. i meant to post this on 5/20 but i couldn’t get my brain juices to work and finish it until tonight. i hope you guys like it. big reminder that i love wang linkai ❤️. sorry if the fic is a mess btw lol.] / master list
He sags down in his seat, visibly defeated by whatever was on his mind. A pout is prominent on his lips as his best friend cracks a smile, clapping him on the back before wrapping his arm around him, their bodies crashing together.
“Why the long face, Gui? Don’t you know that frowning gives you wrinkles?” he asks. If Linkai wasn’t so down in the dumps, he would’ve smacked the exaggerated frown right off of Chengcheng’s face right then.
Fan Chengcheng has never been the kind to just let Linkai live in his misery. Oh, no. Fan Chengcheng has to twist the knife after he stabs you. Sure, the guy’s quiet when you first meet him. But once you get to know him the way Linkai knows him, it’s a done deal. Your soul is his and there’s no getting rid of him.
“You saw my butthole once, Kai. We’re practically blood brothers now.”
Don’t ask. Linkai is begging.
“Nothing,” he shifts back into the ratty couch. He thinks for a second about how Xingjie is always babbling on and on about how he should replace it (as if Linkai has the money to replace this old hand-me-down couch. He’s a soundcloud rapper. How much does Xingjie even thinks he makes off of his beats?). Something about how just because it’s old, doesn’t mean it’s vintage. Linkai thinks that maybe the spring that pops out of the second cushion of the faded blue sofa may have caught Xingjie by surprise one too many times. That’s why Linkai always sits on the arm rest or lays like a starfish on the floor during movie nights. You’ll never catch him squished in the middle of Yanchen and Xingjie on their Thursday night Grey’s Anatomy marathons (per Yanchen’s request because how could one look at the actual sun and say no?).
He’s picking at the frayed edge of the sofa when Chengcheng says, “It doesn’t look like nothing.” He suddenly snaps, reaching into his pocket before pulling out a pair of his (nonprescription) glasses. He pushes them up on his nose then opens his phone to his notes. Linkai sees him type “WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH GUI TODAY” and watches him not only put it in bold print but italics as well. “I think we should start a diary of some sort. My sister has one of those and she says it’s all a part of a healthy life style. Wait, should we buy a Password Journal for you? Okay, wait Chengcheng. Too far off track. Let’s focus on the now.” He recomposes himself before saying, “First of all, do you know your rising sign? It could help explain a lot of things.”
Linkai thinks that there’s a reason for everything. He thinks that you never meet a person by mistake. But sometimes...he has to question his life mottos as Chengcheng waves his hand and tells him he’ll make his birth chart from scratch, all he needs is the time he was born (because Chengcheng’s already memorized that he was born on May 20, 1999 in the Fujian Province).
“Chengcheng, I promise on my mother that I won’t judge you. Just tell me if you were dropped on your head as a baby or not.“ He’s desperate at this point. There’s no way somebody just wakes up and makes the conscious decision to be Fan Chengcheng. Not any sane person, that is.
“Astrology is a very serious science, Gui and I will not stand for your bashing!” Chengcheng whines.
Likai gives him side eyes. “Didn’t you only get into astrology because Justin said you were a Gemini and he liked that?”
“No!” But the blush rising on his cheeks says otherwise. “Look. This isn’t about me! This is about you! What’s your deal?”
The older one shakes his head, throwing himself back against the couch and hoping that the weird stain to his left would manifest into a blackhole and swallow him hole. He crosses his arms and taps his shoe against the ground, eyes glued to the ceiling popcorn and wondering who the hell even thought that shit was cute. He starts to wonder how much he could pay Chengcheng to eat it when the doorbell rings.
“I’ll get it,” Chengcheng says. “I’m expecting a package!” As he gets up, he throws a cushion at his roommate before hopping away.
Linkai shuts his eyes, too exhausted to even fight back. Maybe it is his package. Maybe it’s Justin. Maybe they have another “date” in Chengcheng’s room (it’s not a real date if Justin doesn’t know it’s a date).
He’s about to drift to sleep when another cushion hits his chin, causing him to bite his tongue.
He’s on his feet and ready to throw hands when his eyes land on (a very pissed looking) you.
Honestly. He’s not surprised. You have this sour face all day and all night and it’s to the point where he’s starting to consider having Chengcheng put together your birth chart so that he can understand just that much more about you.
He crosses his arms. “And what is the problem today, princess?” he raises his eyebrows. He leans down, teasingly close, and wrinkles his nose. “I was just thinking about you.”
“Don’t look so stressed,” you scoff. He pokes your forehead, causing you to stumble back a couple of steps. “Hey!” you whine, rubbing the spot. He can just hear you screaming in your head about how he has dirty finger nails or how his hands are always so cold and boney. You huff. “You’re gonna give me a headache.”
“You give me a headache every time you walk into the room,” he shrugs, pulling back. He throws himself onto the couch again and hears the floor rattle beneath him. Another complaint that you’ll throw at him is how he and Chengcheng should just move out of this ratty old place. (“And go where exactly?” “I don’t know! Go live with Zhengting! I heard he needs a roommate!” “You want us to live with Zhu Zhengting? He’ll be on China’s Most Wanted after he kills me and Chengcheng.”) You roll your eyes instead. “But go on. What did your best friend Wang Linkai do to piss you off today?”
“We had a lunch date!” you stomp your foot.
“A lunch date?!” Chengcheng repeats as he exists the kitchen, choking on the piece of bread he had shoved into his mouth. “You two go on dates?!”
Linkai snorts. Ever since Chengcheng found out the story of how you and Linkai met, he’s been begging for you two to fall in love. (“You met in college when she dropped her books and you helped her pick them up? Fingers lingering, eyes glazing over. Love blooming like spring cherry blossom-“ “Chengcheng, shut the actual hell up. I only helped her out because I’m not an asshole.” “Not an asshole? Have you met you?”). Chengcheng says that he’s read a lot of fan fictions. He knows how this will turn out. Apparently, he’s taking bets alongside Chen Linong and Lin Yanjun as to when you two will finally get together. But jokes on them because you are denser than a book.
According to Chengcheng, it’s not your fault because apparently Linkai has terrible game. His idea of flirting with you is to flake on you half the time, watch you get riled up then pat your head and walk away after you get done ranting to him. Linkai doesn’t call that game. He calls that tolerance because some of this shit you put him through makes his head spin in circles. Plus, he’s got an image to uphold. Xiao Gui AKA.IMP cannot go around braiding flower crowns and singing to the birds like this is some kind of Disney film. He’s still trying to live down that time Xukun posted a picture of him coloring in a coloring book on his instagram story (Ziyi still sends him children’s coloring books every holiday since. Whether Linkai fills them out or not is his business and his business only).
He thinks today is going to be a bad day. He thinks it’ll be one of those days where the two of you will fight to no ends and there’s literally nothing he can do to make you feel better. He hates to admit it but he likes those kind of days because they always end with the two of you laying in his bed. Those are the nights he’ll hold you and wipes your tears, whispering a mantra of “Yes, I’m an idiot” and “I’m sorry, it’s my fault for not cherishing you.” He likes those nights because even though you get on his last nerves, he’ll be willing to admit defeat if that means he’ll get to wake up with you beside him.
“Honestly, Linkai. I don’t even know why I try with you sometimes,” you groan, setting down the bag of food in your hands onto the coffee table with one too many water stains. “Chengcheng, come join us for lunch.”
“Oh, I don’t wanna intrude on your date,” he says.
You smile at him. “It’s not an actual date.“
There’s a weird look on your face as you say that. It’s a look you get that Xiao Gui has never been able to read. Your smile is big but your eyes never seem to match. Your shoulders visibly sag and your movements slow for a second before you seem to realize what you’re doing and get back to being normal. “Come!”
“No,” Linkai plops down on the floor next to you. “He has a lab with Justin due at midnight tonight. He needs to leave.”
“Hm? You keep tabs on me?” Chengcheng has a shit eating grin on his face which quickly disappears as Linkai scoffs.
“No. You’re wearing cologne for once and don’t look oily. From just that, I know you’re going to meet Justin,” he says. “You usually smell like terrible B.O. and your hair looks dry. As for your project, you have it written on your calendar inside of a big red heart. I saw it when I went to steal the five bucks from your dresser earlier.” Chengcheng sputters, face red with embarrassment.
You swat Linkai’s shoulder. “Leave him alone,” you frown. “Don’t worry about him, Cheng. You always look and smell great to me!” you grin encouragingly before turning back to Linkai again to whisper yell. “He has a crush. Don’t tell me you’ve never gotten dressed up for somebody you liked.”
“Hey!” he says louder than you expected considering this was supposed to be a hushed conversation. “I’m wearing the jeans you said make my ass look fat,” he retorts. You simply roll your eyes before returning to Chengcheng. Once again, you’ve reminded not only Linkai but the world that you are denser than a book. He makes a face. “You expect me to read your mind and yet you never seem to be able to read mine,” he mutters under his breath, forcefully stabbing into his rice.
“What was that?” you turn back to him. He shakes his head, shoveling a load of food into his mouth to keep you from pressing. You thankfully don’t and once again, turn to Chengcheng. “I think you look amazing. Really. Go get him! He’ll be in your arms in no time!”
“Thanks, jiejie!” the dopey boy grins. “I’ll be on my way then. Be back tomorrow morning. Don’t have too much fun while I’m gone!” he winks. He’s out the door before Linkai can kill him (as if Linkai even had the energy to do so).
He’s too busy dissecting his meat to notice your cold stare. You have to clear your throat for him to look up and see your face. He groans, “What the hell did I do now?”
“You should be more supportive of Chengcheng.”
“More supportive? Any more supportive and I might as well just text Justin and say ‘Hey dinghead! Chengcheng is in love with you!’” he scoffs. “Honestly, it doesn’t get any more supportive than me.” He’s actually offended that you don’t think he’s all for Chengstin. Linkai is the vice president of the Chengstin fanclub, only coming second to You Zhangjing. “Who do you think always makes sure there’s ice cream in the fridge when Justin comes over? Who do you think hops off our shitty ass wifi when Justin comes to watches movies? Who the fuck ran across town just to fight with sneaker heads to get Justin the newest pair of shoes because Chengcheng was stuck in class? Have you ever had to fight a sneak head, YN? Have you?” His eyes are wild as if he’s seen some things he’d rather not talk about.
You sigh. “I just think you need to be nicer to him,” you shrug.
“Last week you told me not to let Chengcheng step all over me,” Linkai points his chopstick accusingly at you.
“Because you were deadass tired and up doing his laundry while he slept!” you exclaim.
Linkai snorts. You’re honestly a walking contradiction when it comes to him. “Just eat and be quiet. I’ve already got a headache. Don’t make my stomach upset too with all of your nonsense.”
“It’s not nonsense, Linkai!”
“If it’s coming from you, it is.” He shuts his foam to-go plate and stands to his feet before you could give him another earful. “I’m gonna go get a drink. Want anything? Water? A soda? A shot of vodka?”
“Ten more minutes with you makes the last option sound more appeasing than it should,” you pinch the bridge of your nose.
“Nobody is forcing you to be here,” he reminds you, patting your head as he walks away. When he returns, he’s made two pretty drinks and winks at you. Bottoms up, his eyes say.
“Really? Drinking on a Tuesday?” you scoff.
“Whether it’s a Tuesday afternoon or a Saturday night, you will always find a reason to complain,” he replies. You roll your eyes, taking a sip and feeling the alcohol burn down your throat. You grimace before setting it back down on the table. “So what do you wanna do now, hm? Watch a movie? Make me watch you online shop?”
“Maybe I could put make up on you and do your hair,” you suggest.
It’s his turn to roll his eyes. “You say that everyone elses’ boy friends do this for them and yet, I feel as though I’m the only one.”
“Boyfriend?” you repeat, completely disregarding anything else he had said.
“Boy. Space. Friends,” he says before leaning back onto his hands. “Why? Do you wanna remove the space in between us?” he wiggles his eyebrows before swooping in close to you, noses bumping. You freeze at this. “What?” he smirks when you don’t push him away like usual. “You actually thinking about kissing me this time?”
You scoff, shaking your head and moving away from him. “Wang Linkai,” you scoff again. “You really are something else. You know that? Kiss you? My best friend? I’d rather eat sand or-“ You stop, looking at him and seeing the way his eyes cast down for a second. “What?”
He looks back up. “Nothing,” he says before pulling himself to his feet again. He stretches his arms over his head and yawns. “Come. Let’s go shop. Or something. I don’t know.” He shakes his head and reaches for his drink. Maybe he shouldn’t have poured so much alcohol into his drink. One sip and he’s already a mess. “What?” He notices you still haven’t moved from your spot on the floor. “Hurry up and put on your jacket. Or do I have to so it for you?” He makes a swipe to grab your arm but you pull back, holding it against your chest. “YN, what?” he sighs, a bit annoyed. “Are you mad at what I just did? Look, I’m sorry. Let’s just-“
“Linkai,” you frown. “Why do you look so sad?”
“It’s nothing,” he replies, walking around and looking for his keys.
“It’s doesn’t seem like nothing to you.” Your words are careful, almost as if you’re trying to find the right wire to cut in order for the bomb not to explode. It’s always like that when the two of you argue this deeply. And sadly, it always ends with somebody crying.
“Because it’s never anything to you!” he throws a hand down dramatically. “So like. Let’s go because I’m not going to do this today!”
“Do what today?” you ask, standing to your feet. He shakes his head and makes it towards the door when you grab his arm. He instantly spins around and pins you against the wall, arms encasing you. You narrow your eyes at him. “What’s your deal?” you huff.
“It’s not even a bit obvious to you?” He’s smiling like a deviant. Like you’re just playing into one of his cold jokes. “Are you really that stupid?”
“What did I do to you?” you cross your arms.
“Everything,” he says, eyes casting downwards. You feel your heart starting to hammer as you realize he’s staring right at your lips. “You waltz into my life and make it absolute hell. You expect me to just know what’s on your mind. You expect me to just know what makes you happy and what makes you sad. You expect me to just know these things and I don’t and it makes me so tired and yet...” he laughs coldly. “And yet when I look at you, I want to be defeated. I want to fall at my knees at your mercy. It’s been like this since the day we met.” His hand slowly makes its way up to your cheek, cupping the glowy red flesh between his fingers. “C’mon, YN. How should it be? What do I have to do to make you like me as much as I like you?”
“Linkai, you idiot! If you liked me, you should’ve just told me!” you pout.
“And then you would’ve found something to complain about then as well,” he rolls his eyes. “Honestly, YN. Just lighten up with me sometimes. I’m trying.”
“You’re always trying,” you smile. “That’s what I like about you.”
“You wanna know a secret?” he asks, leaning in closely. “I only try his hard for you.”
And as his lips finally land on yours, you realize that this is exactly how it should have been all along.

What if Happy Internet Cafe was a Cosplay Internet Cafe?
Fanfic slightly edited from my submission for the June fanfic contest on the discord server! I now have a FFN account and AO3 pending lol. Feedback and comments welcome~
Prompt: Ye Xiu has retired from Glory and departs Excellent Era but doesn’t head to Happy Internet Cafe and become a night manager.
Summary: In which Happy is a cosplay/internet cafe, Ye Xiu is a pro player magnet, and Chen Guo is a shrewd businesswoman
Tags: All叶, allye, cosplay, crossdressing, crackfic, tw minor sexual harassment, help i dont know how chinese money works, timeline is slightly off, let’s play spot the author’s favorite anime characters
(1)
Ye Xiu leant back languidly in his chair, his arms stretching out and coming to rest behind his head. “I feel that I match all of the qualifications, and work and pay aren’t a problem. So how about it?”
Chen Guo eyed him up and down. “Stand up.”
Ye Xiu took the time to stretch out his legs before lazily getting to his feet. Chen Guo circled him like a vulture coming upon a juicy piece of meat, muttering comments to herself.
“Hmm, he’s a little bit tall, but has pretty delicate features.” She crouched down to inspect his legs. “Long legs, not too much muscle....” She circled over to look at his back side. “Hmmm...”
Suddenly Ye Xiu felt a Smack! across his buttocks.
“Um...!” Ye Xiu yelped and rubbed his abused backside.
Chen Guo covered her mouth and snickered. “Oh, you’ll do.”
“Haha..?”
“So which shift do you want?” she asked.
“Night shift is fine!” Ye Xiu figured that he’d avoid the crowds and make some extra money. He didn’t mind switching his sleep schedule and he had always been pretty good at pulling all-nighters, thinking back to his time playing Glory all night long with Su Muqiu.
“Absolutely not!”
“Oh?” Were all the night shift posts taken?
“It’d be a waste to have a good looking guy like you take the night shift! If you want a less busy time you can take either the morning or the evening shift! Pretty boys like you need their beauty sleep!” Chen Guo explained.
Ye Xiu sweatdropped. “Uhh... Okay.... I guess I’ll take the evening shift then.”
Chen Guo clapped her hands together and gestured for him to follow her. “Great! You’ll work from 4 until 10. You get a break at 7 to eat. Most customers only come to use the computers, but if they need any help or want to order food they’ll ring the service bell. We offer special service if they order from us, which is that they can request you to do something, within reason. This usually means saying a line or doing a pose, so do your best to please the customer, alright?”
“Hmm?” Ye Xiu blinked. Wait. What was that last sentence?
“We’ll start you off easy, but we’ll want to take advantage of your good genes later. We’ll let you have a trial period tonight, but you can start officially as soon as tomorrow.” She started  rummaging through a closet in the back room. She finally pulled out some folded clothing in a box that Ye Xiu assumed was the uniform. “You’re about the same height as xiao Li, so this should fit you. I’ll show you the employee locker rooms!”
In front of the locker rooms, Chen Guo shoved the clothes she was holding into his arms.
“Try it on!”
Ye Xiu looked into the box. “Uh, boss, this... is your uniform?”
“You’re chickening out now?” She smacked his back. “You signed up for this, remember? How can we be Happy Cosplay Internet Cafe, the only cosplay internet cafe in all of China, without the cosplay?!”
Ye Xiu almost choked. “Cosplay?”
Chen Guo face palmed. “Have you been paying attention to your surroundings at all? Or at least been listening to me explaining your work?”
Ye Xiu looked around. At a second glance, it turned out that all the staff were wearing costumes of some sort. He had been so focused on getting out of the cold he really hadn’t noticed it!
He’d probably give a bad impression if he admitted he hadn’t been listening to his new boss though, so he coughed and said, “I’ll go change now.”
If he came out with a slight flush in his cheeks, it was a small matter. Well, maybe not, since Chen Guo had squealed and promptly whipped out her camera and begun snapping pictures of him to post on her Weibo. She gave him a big grin and a thumbs up.
“We’ll give you proper training with wigs and make up later. Can’t wait to have you crossdress~!”
A look of horror passes over Ye Xiu’s face. Just what did he sign up for?
(2) Su Mucheng
Dancing Rain: Big bro, you doing alright?
Lord Grim: dw, I got a job!
Dancing Rain: lol who would hire you. Your only skill is gaming
Dancing Rain: you should go back to my place! I’ll provide for you, and you can be my housewife!
Lord Grim: ...
Lord Grim: that was mean.
Dancing Rain: where did you get a job?
Lord Grim: Happy Internet Cafe!
Dancing Rain: you mean that cosplay cafe across the street?
Lord Grim: ...
Dancing Rain: omg are you in cosplay rn???
Lord Grim: ...
Dancing Rain: im coming over
Lord Grim: dont.
Lord Grim: mucheng im warning you
Lord Grim: It’s an internet cafe. What if you get mobbed?
Dancing Rain: dw im good at disguises!
It turned out that Mucheng’s “disguise” consisted of a pair of glasses, a hat, and a face mask. Yup, real subtle Mucheng. Everyone was thinking that, but no one dared approach. Why would Su Mucheng even go to an internet cafe across the street from Excellent Era after all? When Chen Guo took her id card, she nearly started screaming, but was quieted by a wink and shushing finger sign. Through the power of fangirling and selfies, Mucheng was able to obtain the whole second floor to herself, as well as Ye Xiu as her personal server. He was currently dressed in a simple school blazer with a blood red wig. Mucheng was snapping pics of him left and right.
Ye Xiu sweatdropped. “You better not post these.”
“I know,” she said plainly. “These are for my personal enjoyment. Besides, I’m supposed to get a ‘special service’ with my ice cream. So keep still while I take more photos.”
Later Chen Guo dreamily asked him, “Hey, do you think Su Mucheng will come again? Should I build a private room for her? I should build a private room for her.”
Ye Xiu sweatdropped again. Hey, don’t ask me if you’ve already decided.
(3) Huang Shaotian
Tang Rou thought that Huang Shaotian was a creep when he showed up outside around 10pm and covered in scarves, so she went to go get Chen Guo.
“Old Ye!” He whisper yelled, tiptoeing through the door. “Where the hell are you?”
Ye Xiu poked him in the back and the blond puppy jumped five feet in the air. “I’m right here.”
“Shit! You’re Old Ye?!” Huang Shaotian spluttered disbelievingly. To be fair, Ye Xiu was crossdressing, but you’d think that Huang Shaotian would have noticed him.
The short flouncy skirt of the black and white school uniform dress along with the mismatching colorful socks showed off his mile long legs wonderfully, and the orange wig with green highlights had pigtails that framed his handsome face. He was taller than a real girl, with slightly sharper angles, but all in all, he looked really good crossdressing.
“How could you? After all these years of friendship, you’ve forgotten me so soon?” Ye Xiu said in mock sadness.
“Nononono! That’s not it at all! I haven’t forgotten you though maybe I should seeing as you’re an old man dressing up as a girl that is not that you’re some creep or anything but just that you’ve retired and such but I promise I haven’t forgotten you after all you’re probably my best friend after Captain and all of the Blue Rain players and - Hey! Why are you leaving?!”
Ye Xiu turned in the general direction of the word explosion and shrugged. “It’s the end of my shift. I’m going to change.” And he sauntered off toward the back room to change into more comfortable clothes.
Shaotian sneakily grabbed his phone to snag a picture. He grinned down at the photo evidence of the battle god crossdressing.
“There he is, that’s the creep!” Tang Rou had come back with Chen Guo in tow.
“F-shit! I’m not a creep! That Old Ye invited me!”
Chen Guo and Tang Rou looked at each other.  A stalker?
“I’m going to have to see your ID.”
Some selfies and monetary transactions later, Huang Shaotian and Ye Xiu were in the private room running through the plan on the boneyard record.
“Hey Old Ye, it says that if I order some food, I can get special service. I’m going to make you PK with me!”
“Not happening.” Ye Xiu refused plainly.
“Why not?! PKPKPK!”
“Because it’s not my shift.” Ye Xiu wasn’t obligated to do anything for anyone right now. He was also tired after a long day taking requests from customers and didn’t want to deal with Shaotian’s shit right now. The boss had also given him a strict bedtime of 1am at the latest and he wanted to get in all of his dungeon runs before then.
“...”
Ye Xiu suddenly felt a chill down his back. Shaotian being silent? Never a good thing.
The next day at 4 pm.
“OLD YE!” A blond fluffball came flying at Ye Xiu. Ye Xiu tumbled to the ground under the unexpected tackle.
“Oh god.”
“PKPKPKPKPKPKPKPKPKPK!”
Six hours later...
“Boss, please kick him out.” Ye Xiu was disheveled and exhausted, pale and looking like he was about to collapse.
Chen Guo paused from counting the money Huang Shaotian had spent on reserving the private room and repeatedly ordering food with service for 6 hours. “....Hmm? What did you say?”
(3.5) All Star Weekend
“Ye Xiu! You’re really Ye Qiu?”
“...Yes.”
“Dammit! We should have charged Huang Shaotian more!”
“...”
(4) Ye Qiu
For the Lunar New Year, it turned out that Ye Qiu had found out he had retired from Excellent Era and was now working at Happy.
“Brother,” he tutted, “Come home for New Years. Do you even have a place to stay?”
“I’m going to work over time!” He just wanted to avoid going home over the holiday and play Glory all day.
“Fine, then I’m going to stay too.”
“Go home little brother. Unless... the boss has been wanting to do twin cosplays...”
“Happy New Year, I have to go attend to mother and little dot! Let me know when you’re coming back already! Bye!” In a flash, Ye Qiu was out the door.
Chen Guo came out of the back room holding a box of costumes. “Why did he leave? I had the cutest matching cosplays for you two!”
(5) Yu Wenzhou
“Captain Yu! What are you doing here?” Ye Xiu was so surprised to see Yu Wenzhou turn up one day that his half and half red and white wig almost fell off.
Yu Wenzhou was disguised in naught but a pair of dark sunglasses. Since Huang Shaotian had turned up the other time, more and more Blue Rain fans had been coming to Happy to see if they could catch a glimpse of their idol. Seeing the captain himself, of course some Yu Wenzhou fans crowded around to see if they could get an autograph. But as they approached, suddenly an ice cold aura appeared, and the fans decided it would probably be a good idea to back off.
“Hello Senior.” The blue-haired captain greeted amiably. “I came to see you in your new place of work.”
A slender hand came up to readjust his wig. “... I meant, how did you find me here?”
Yu Wenzhou smiled and merely handed him a thick wad of cash. “Let’s discuss this in the private room, shall we?”
So Ye Xiu led him up the stairs and Yu Wenzhou explained over coffee and biscuits. “Several weeks ago, Shaotian disappeared after the match with Excellent Era, and later claimed that he wanted to stay in Hangzhou for an extra day to visit family. He has no family in Hangzhou, so of course he must’ve been visiting someone other than family. He clearly lied about it, and as such it couldn’t have been anyone he would publically visit.”
He took another sip of his coffee. “The night he disappeared also happened to be the day the boneyard record was broken by Lord Grim and a swordsman Flowing Tree. Lord Grim is infamous in the tenth server with his technical skill, and he started in the tenth server around the time when you retired. Of course, I had a sneaking suspicion it was you, but Shaotian’s disappearance confirmed it. When he returned after his one day visit to ‘family’ he was in a surprisingly good mood and kept snickering at his phone. Naturally, I confisticated it and searched through the contents. Did you know he had this picture of you on it?”
He held up his phone and Ye Xiu saw that there was a picture of him crossdressing, shot from the back as he walked away to change clothes. It was slightly blurry, as it was dark, and Ye Xiu was surprised (but not that surprised) to know that Yu Wenzhou could recognize him even though the view was from the back and he had been in costume.
“That little brat!” Ye Xiu exclaimed. “Who would take advantage of such a good-looking guy like me, taking pictures of me on the sly?”
Yu Wenzhou put the picture away, ignoring the self-proclaimed ‘good-looking’ god. Ye Xiu noted that he didn’t delete the picture though. Wenzhou continued with his explanation. “When I saw this, I knew immediately that Shaotian had not gone to visit family but had rather gone to visit you at your workplace. A quick search of cosplay cafe and Hangzhou turned up this place. Did you know that this is the only cosplay internet cafe in China?”
“...Your deductive work is too scary Captain Yu.” Ye Xiu sighed. “So what did you hope to gain by coming here?”
Yu Wenzhou gave a little smile. “I was hoping to perhaps chat about some tactics and maybe play a match or two.”
Ye Xiu cracked his knuckles and began stretching out his arms in preparation. “It’ll be 100 yuan for each match, and you’ll need to buy food for any other requests.”
Yu Wenzhou tilted his head. “Hmm?”
“Boss’s rules.”
“Ah.”
(6) Zhang Xinjie and Han Wenqing
When Han Wenqing and Zhang Xinjie came to Happy Cosplay Internet Cafe one evening, they didn’t even bother disguising themselves despite being in the midst of Excellent Era territory, in fact, literally across the street from their so-called rivals.
A whisper chorus of boos echoed up from the computers. The quiet protest was quickly vanquished with the signature Han Wenqing GlareTM, resulting in the offenders groveling on the floor, offering their wallets as penitence.
All the commotion brought Chen Guo over. She reflexively wanted to jump back when he turned his gaze to her, but she held her ground and offered, “What can Happy Cosplay Internet Cafe do for you today, God Han, God Zhang?”
“Where’s Ye Qiu?”
Zhang Xinjie smoothed out the conversation. “We would like to rent out the private room and talk with Senior Ye if possible.”
“It’s 200 yuan per match and you need to order food for any other requests. The private room has a lock. Ye Xiu can let you in.”
Han Wenqing picked up a wallet off the floor, and dropped it on the counter, much to the dismay of one unfortunate booer.
“Yo Old Han.” Today Ye Xiu was dressed in a cute sailor themed idol costume with a long dark colored wig. He gave a mock salute. “Never thought I’d see the two of you here in a cosplay cafe in Excellent Era territory no less.”
“Never thought I’d see you here crossplaying at an internet cafe across the street from Excellent Era after having retired no less,” the older player spat back.
“Let’s go upstairs and fight in the arena instead of in the lobby, Captain, Senior.”
Ye Xiu laughed and led the two of them to the stairs. “You first.”
Zhang Xinjie, feeling that it was out of character for Ye Xiu to be polite asked, “Why don’t you go first, senior?”
“Gasp, Xiao Zhang! How perverted! You want to peek under my skirt as I go up the stairs, don’t you?”
Xinjie turned all shades of red and blurted, “That wasn’t it at all!”
Han Wenqing was not amused. “If we wanted a peek we would just lift it up. Now show me that unspecialized character of yours.” He began pushing Ye Xiu up the stairs.
“Ooh how brazen, Old Han.”
(7) Tiny Herb
Business at Happy was booming. Not only was Chen Guo obtaining more business from users hoping to see their favorite pro player, but she was able to charge the visiting pro players exorbitant amounts and they would gladly pay to play with Ye Xiu. Using the extra money, Chen Guo was able to upgrade the private room upstairs to include a full row of new computers and a comfy couch and coffee table.
The upgrades were a good investment. How else would the entire Tiny Herb pro team be able to fit comfortably into the room?
“Order whatever food you want. The club will pay for it. Don’t forget to think of your requests. You can ask him to do anything reasonable, so make sure you learn from this opportunity.”
“Yes Captain!”
Ye Xiu sighed. Today he was wearing a black and white sailor style girl’s school uniform, along with a short brown wig and white cap. He also had a staff and a stuffed animal to complete the cosplay, but they were too annoying to carry around while playing. “I left Excellent Era so that I didn’t have to be a training partner...” he muttered under his breath.
“What was that senior?” Wang Jiexi blinked his uneven eyes.
“Nothing, nothing. Just a reminder that it’s 300 yuan per person per match and that I require a break between matches. Oh, I know. While you’re waiting for me, you can fight Xiao Tang. I’m coaching her!” He gave a big thumbs up.
The whole ordeal was like one huge party with food and fun and Glory. Tang Rou despite getting utterly smashed bravely continued to fight, earning the respect of Tiny Herb. Ye Xiu then proceeded to crush them all in return. It was a bit depressing to think that all of them combined had still been trounced by a single guy dressed like an elementary school girl.
“Thank you Senior Ye!” exclaimed one Gao Yingjie on the way out.
“Yes. Thank you for your guidance Senior Ye. I hope to be like you someday.” echoed Qiao Yifan.
Ye Xiu patted both on the head. It was nice to see rookies with such enthusiasm. “You two have a lot to learn, but you also have a lot of potential. Keep working hard. And Yifan, why don’t you think about what I said?”
‘Why don’t you try out a Ghostblade! It would suit you!’ Yifan kept thinking of this phrase over and over again walking out of the internet cafe, such that he almost bumped into Chen Guo.
“Woah! Careful there.” She steadied him on his feet. “You know, you’re pretty cute.” Chen Guo handed Yifan a business card. “If you ever need a job or even a side job, you should contact me! I have some cute cosplays that would be perfect for you!”
Yifan almost choked. When he said he wanted to be like Senior Ye, he didn’t mean it that way!
(8) Jiang Botao
“So what brings you here by yourself?”
“Senior Ye! Please grant me a request!” Jiang Botao bowed deeply at a 90 degree angle.
“No need to be so formal,” Ye Xiu laughed. “As long as you buy something from here, I’ll be willing to hear you out.”
Jiang Botao ordered a What a Big One ice cream cone. “Sooo...” he started nervously, “ummm.... Please... Allow me to record a message from you to captain!”
“Oh? To Xiao Zhou? What would you like me to say?”
“Please say, ‘Zhou Zekai, Jiayou!’ a-and then umm, please blow a kiss!”
“Hoho? Well, alright get your camera ready!”
Jiang Botao aimed the camera at him portrait-wise, making sure to capture the full picture of Ye Xiu in a purple accented swimsuit and blue and white jacket covering his shirtless torso. He didn’t need a wig this time, but settled for some styling with gel to achieve the character’s likeness.
Ye Xiu grinned, not caring that it was out of character for the cosplay. “Xiao Zhou, Jiayou! Keep working hard!” He winked saucily and blew a kiss.
Jiang Botao was so grateful he kept thanking Ye Xiu over and over again and insisted on giving him extra cash. “For the wink! Please keep it for the wink!”
Later...
“Captain! Please make an effort to connect more with the rookies! They’re all intimidated by your silence!”
“...”
“If you coordinate well with them and get into the playoffs I’ll give you this!” Jiang Botao pressed a button on his phone, playing the video.
“Xiao Zhou, Jiayou! Keep working hard!” *Wink* *kiss*
Zhou Zekai stared at the little screen. “Want... Senior...”
“If you want it, please make an effort to get along!”
Zhou Zekai nodded emphatically.
“If we do well this season, we can go visit him later!”
Zhou Zekai was already walking out the door.
(9) Happy
“God Ye! Is it true that you initially worked as a staff member for Happy Internet Cafe?” Cameras flashed during the press conference following the Challenger League.
Chen Guo butted in, “It’s Happy Cosplay Internet Cafe. Get your facts right!”
“God Ye! Is it true that you engaged in crossplay?”
“It’s not that bad when you get used to it! Besides, my boss says I should show off my ‘legs for days.’”
“God Ye! Is it true that the other members of Happy cosplay as well?”
Chen Guo again interrupted. “At this time I would like to announce the limited edition release of our new cosplay photobook. It includes both group and individual cosplay photos of all of Team Happy. This limited edition will also include a section of Captain Ye’s best cosplays and a new cosplay as One Autumn Leaf. The photobooks will be on sale starting at midnight tonight and will cost 800 yuan. Proceeds will go to the development of Team Happy and also Ye Xiu’s costume repertoire. Thank you for your patronage.”
All the reporters gossipped among themselves. The males complained it was way too expensive, more than double the price of other costume books, but were quite sorely tempted by the One Autumn Leaf photo. The females wanted to see those legs for days.
The clubs were some of the first to buy the books when they came on sale. When questioned why they wanted to help the enemy the teams merely said, for research. Yeah, for research.
And so, Team Happy became the most influential team in the alliance for the sole reason of Ye Xiu fangirling.
//End notes:  *sweating* Yeah this totally fits the prompt. “Ye Xiu has retired from Glory and departs Excellent Era but doesn’t head to Happy Internet Cafe and become a night manager.” Hahaha *runs away*//

Video
youtube
Here’s another one! (b/c I got no original content/talent to contribute to the fandom LOL OTL)
Quan Zhi Gao Shou fan cover/Chinese adaption of Rain of Mind by Shuuhei Kita.
[半道英雄] means Hero who is halfway there. This song is just so nice/cute haha. Though, unlike the previous one, the video’s definitely MAJOR SPOILER ALERT. Because these are ppl drawn at their end-game teams. yeah. (rip me when I found this) For fun translation under cut of a comment on the video that points out the little easter eggs--song is not translated (I don’t got the fluency for that). Spoiler so bad. Last warning.
Translations tell me this is 無罪之罪’s art. I need to find this person’s art blog, not even kidding. Seriously the art for this is amazing???
Commenter 姚德暉 pointed out that if you look closely you can see tiny details in the characters that help identify them. Considering the fact that like 60% of these ppl haven’t even been introduced yet at the current novel translations, you’ll be lost if you haven’t been spoiled by say, the Wikia (rip me), or already finished the Chinese vers.
In order of appearance (not a word for word translation--I’ve added and deleted some stuff):
Ye Xiu (Excellent Era): smoking, the card
Wang Jiexi (Tiny Herb): unsymmetrical eyes (right is bigger)
Yu Wenzhou (Blue Rain): N/A
Han Wenqing (Tyranny): that fierce facial expression tho (somehow notable to commenter)
Zhou Zekai (Samsara): N/A
Jiang Botao (Samsara): N/A
Fang Minghua (Samsara): ring on right hand (I assume this is relevant later somehow? Don’t tell me.)
Sun Xiang (Samsara): 3 fingers (idk? maybe indicates 3 teams)
Du Ming (Samsara): love letter
Li Xuan (Void | right): N/A
Yu Yuce (Void | left): his character Carved Ghost is a girl
Zhang Xinjie (Tyranny): jacket zipper pulled to the top, his watch
Lin Jingyan (Tyranny): glasses (idk? most fanart of him, he’s got glasses), gentle/elegant appearance (??? notable to commenter for some reason)
Song Qiying (Tyranny): N/A
Zhang Jiale (Tyranny | right): 1 finger (idk? is this notable? could indicate previous team, could be his goal to be champ), red rose tattoo (previous Hundred Blossoms)
Sun Zheping (Heavenly Sword | left): hand injury (right), red butterfly tattoo (previous Happy)
Lou Guanning (Heavenly Sword): glass of wine (indicating wealth)
Wen Kebei (Heavenly Sword): N/A
Xiao Shiqin (Thunderclap): chess pieces (one of the "Four Master Tacticians"), glasses
Chu Yunxiu (Misty Rain): her character Windy Rain is a guy
Ye Xiu (Happy): smoking, blue butterfly, only one whose in-game character Lord Grim looks different than the player--he’s likely modeled after Su Muqiu
Huang Shaotian (Blue Rain): N/A
Zheng Xuan (Blue Rain): biting something (commenter unsure if this counts or is relevant)
Song Xiao (Blue Rain): N/A
Lu Hanwen (Blue Rain): also biting candy, tho in this case it’s probably just to indicate his young age, along with the bunny hair tie
Liu Xiaobie (Tiny Herb): earphones (apparently relevant later)
Gao Yingjie (Tiny Herb): N/A
Yuan Baiqing (Tiny Herb): N/A
Xu Bin (Tiny Herb): N/A
Dai Yanqi (Thunderclap): N/A
Fang Xuecai (Thunderclap): N/A
Shu Kexin (Misty Rain): N/A
Shu Keyi (Misty Rain): N/A
Li Hua (Misty Rain): N/A
Yang Cong (301 Degrees): N/A
Bai Shu (301 Degrees): luggage (previously from England)
Yu Feng (Hundred Blossoms): flowers
Zou Yuan (Hundred Blossoms): flowers
Qiu Fei (New Excellent Era): N/A
Zhao Yuzhe (Wind Howl): N/A
Tang Hao (Wind Howl): N/A
Tang Rou (Happy | left): 3 fingers up (一挑三: 1v3 is strongly associated with Tang Rou in the Chinese fandom, probably relevant later)
Su Mucheng (Happy | middle): N/A
Chen Guo (Happy | right): blue butterfly, idk why flowers tho (maybe relevant later?)
Mo Fan (Happy | far left): hood
An Wenyi (Happy | mid left): N/A
Qiao Yifan (Happy | mid right): cup/water
Wei Chen (Happy | far right): smoking, thin mustache (lookie how old the guy is haha)
Luo Ji (Happy | left): books, pens, fancy vest (student)
Fang Rui (Happy | middle): N/A
Bao Rongxing (Happy | right): everything XD--long blond hair, tattoos, happy smile
Ye Xiu (final shot): still smoking (LOL), blue butterfly, championship trophy
Su Muqiu (no team): umbrella, back (indicates passing)
(Holy shit what a big cast...)
You’ll notice that in addition to the team uniforms:
the Samsara ppl all have the same tooth necklace (except Sun Xiang)
the Void Ghostblade duo share a ring necklace
Zhang Jiale and Sun Zheping are together because both are from Hundred Blossoms
Heavenly Sword ppl all wear loose yellow ties
Tiny Herb all wear a beret except for Wang Jiexi, who has a fancy top hat--probably indicates he’s the most notable
Samsara, Blue Rain, and Tiny Herb are the only teams with special backgrounds (maybe Tyranny)
Can I just say I really, really love the in-game character designs? Even though they’re really different from the official one, the designs are all on point, esp Lord Grim--I’m kinda unsatisfied with Lord Grim’s appearance in the animation because he should be colorful, at least, if the animators don’t want to do mismatched equipment--his colors are so dull when they’re supposed to be so colorful it hurts the eyes (刺眼).
