The bakery is a front!...Right? Part 2
Danny can practically feel Peter's glare through the small window between the front counter and kitchen, trying to melt his ice core. He isn't sure what he did to earn the man's ire but it was getting sort of old after two weeks.
Peter's brother, who almost always steals food and drinks between customers, wasn't nearly as bad. Danny didn't mind the loss, as he is beyond rich that he could fund his own country; he just found it odd that Alvin tended to put whatever he stole in test tubes.
He used to seeing street kids' having sticky fingers, but not ones with this particular habit. If he hadn't witnessed Alvin taking an entire bagel and stuffing it into a ziplock bag after another filling another test tube with the ghost theme latte- it was just color dye green and the foam shaped into a blob ghost- he would thought the guy was gathering samples of his merchandise rather then stocking up on food. Not that he could blame him.
Not knowing where their next meal will come from makes it understandable that they horde any food they can. Yes, the pair of brothers were close to his age but they been on the streets since Peter was fifteen and Alvin was thirteen. They had apparently took off in the middle of the night after Alvin was violently outed and his scum of a father tried to break the gay out of him.
They haven't spoken much about their past besides that, but Danny didn't need any more information.
Alvin is remarkably good at taking things without anyone noticed.
The only reason Danny caught on to what he was doing was because this was his haunt, and his ghost side had growled in outrage the first time Alvin swiped some samples of various coffees. His human side just thought it was hilarious.
After a while, the part of him that was Phantom recognized the two as new members of his haunt and now purred whenever they took stuff. Phantom's desire to provide for those under his protection made it hard for Danny not to slip and purr or rub himself against people like a creepy cat.
Phantom also had this mysterious allure to humans. Sam and Tucker let him know after the three came across the Phan Club led by his old classmates. Paulina wanting to marry him wasn't a one-time thing. Almost all his classmates wanted to marry Phantom because a part of him influenced their attraction.
Halfas were like that.
Frostbite said halfas were close to sirens and that annoyed him more than anything.
His ghost side wasn't mansplain, manipulate but rather manwhore. At least with enough exposure, people developed immunity to his allure, so Danny ignored all the love-struck eyes made at him.
Danny still very clearly remembered coming back for his junior year, walking into the hallways and causing multiple jaws to drop.
Sam and he had broken up at the beginning of the summer, so she only blinked at his sudden appearance, but Tucker had been blindsided.
"Dude, don't take this the wrong way, but you look delicious"
Danny had fallen for him just a little for that alone.
The two of them dated all junior year with Sam's blessing but agreed they were better as friends by the end. It was awkward, but the three got past that, spending senior year snickering as various people tried to ask Danny out.
Danny was petty enough to admit he enjoyed turning them down, citing their past treatment of him as a "never going to happen". Breaking the hearts of the A-listers was a special kind of joy, especially Dash.
After taking the time with Elle to further develop his ghost side, he hadn't realized the big difference between him and the other halfas.
Vlad's accident case him to form over time, after getting ecto-acne, and the years he spent in the hospital were him repeatedly dying only to be brought back seconds after, by the ectoplasm forced into his face. It is no wonder he lost his sanity and became violently obsessed with his parents.
In the creation of Dan, Vlad's mind had finally been accessible to his human side again. The future Vlad was more mellow sure, has taken him in with a kind heart but that was because he had been more human then ghost. The ghost side no longer had his parents around so its vengeance was no longer needed ans it cleared up the maddness.
It was like his image of a human hand been painted over by his ghost. It didn't blend.
Jazz had realized this, and then after speaking to his parents, they vowed to help him. Surprisingly it worked, and now Vlad was not a fruitloop. Unfortunately he may be something far worse.
Vlad was now his parents' boyfriend. Ugh. It didn't help that it had been Vlad that given his parents a grant all these years, who had taken care of the family from afar, and that he was a gentle soul. Jack had named him godfather of his son because they grew up together and had always know the sweetheart hidden within.
His coming back from the dead madness had rekindled old feelings, and his mom admitted she had felt something for him too.
Ew.
Ellie was influenced by her ghost side too. She was a clone, but her core form first, and unlike the other failed clones, she was more like a ghost who learned to be human. She gave in more to her spirit urges, only really eating and sleeping because she thought they were fun. Her ghost was painted over by her human side, but it was a well balanced collage.
Danny was a single painting with two figures side by side.
Since his accident perfectly split his two parts his human side kept his ghostly influence at bay until he was about sixteen, where slowly but surely, he allowed his two pieces to start to fuse.
That's why Dan had gone off the deep end when separated from his human side. There was nothing hold his urge to protect after his loved one's death and his ghost part saw his human half trying to get rid of him as betrayal, so it reacted by betrayung his protective obsession- by destroying everything it could and eating Vlad's ghost only fueled his crazy.
There had been times when both his ghost side and human side were separated that didn't cause this. When he was spilt by Fenton Ghost Cather, his ghost side took the responsibility while his human became even lazier than average. That didn't mean they had different personalities, just that some aspects of themselves were futher away.
It was like his soul multiplied rather then broken. It's why he was able to stay sane, he didn't reject any part of him.
It just didn't help with their fusing his ghost was affecting humans and him. He now had to deal with even more love-struck eyes. Worse, according to Vlad and Frostbite, Danny was now entering his mating stage, and he was honest to Acients nesting.
The building next door that he had bought and developed to have decent-sized cubicles with warm beds meant to house the homeless was now mostly occupied by children.
Phantom was almost always purring, seeing street kids slowly move in. He offered them food, work, a roof, and warm water. The cubicles could be considered dorm rooms-a bed, desk, and small cabinets that were savage from other kids who sold them to Danny enough for them to walk into and sleep when it turned dark. Some leave in the morning, others stay, but Danny doesn't mind.
Maybe that's why Peter hated him so much. Alvin was weak to Phantom's charm and Danny knew a thing or two about older siblings trying to protect thier younger siblings from parent's bigotry.
Jazz made a face when ghost hunters got near him before the reveal. They weren't in danger anymore, but knowing that and relaxing around what they saw a threat were two very different things.
Peter and Alvin Draper appeared a month or so after the whole Scarecrow's incident. He didn't mean to run into the supervillain, knocking the man over in the middle of his villian monologue.
He had been too busy trying to get Sam and Tucker- dated in senior year and the last two years- to agree on the main decor for their wedding. Even after they got engaged, it was still Danny who smoothed their bickering to notice that he had stop breathing again.
Sometimes he forgot.
It took the guy stuffing a needle into his arm, the liquid already being cleansed by his ectoplasm before fully settling in his bloodstream, to realize this wasn't another Gotham citizen casually wearing a gas mask.
This was the reason people wear gas masks.
He punched the creep away from him, effectively allowing the heroes to lock him up. But in doing so, he put all his goons out of work. He hadn't known until two days later Andres had nervously walked into his bakery with a resume.
Andres had been the Scarecrow's right-hand man trying to get money for his dying mother, who had cancer. Danny didn't know what to do with a guy whose only valuable skill at a bakery was speaking Spanish but if he wanted to get out of life of crime then who was he to stop him?
His resume was impressive, but it was mostly how to handle illegal chemicals and torture, so Danny set him up as his cashier and co-baker. A few days later, Andres had carefully suggested other goons from Scarecrow's crew who needed jobs, and Danny found himself fully staffed that same day.
More people began visiting him for work, and Danny didn't what to do with them half the time.
Sighing, he placed the newest batch of ecto-cookies in a box for Manolo to take to his mother. The kid is rocking on his heels by the entrance. He is new to the streets after getting thrown out by his mother's ex, but now that she was cleaning up her addiction, Danny hoped he wouldn't be seeing him around the streets as often.
"Peter is going to shoot you," Andres said, looking at the man with the streak of white in his hair practically foaming at the mouth when he saw the small boy arrive for his delivery run. "Want me and the boys to take care of him?"
Danny glanced up to catch Alvin ducking his head, face a healthy red hue. The guy had been staring at him again, which meant Peter was being overprotective again.
"No" He tells Andres, putting the boxes in a little red wagon for the boy to tug around. "I'll handle him."
He walked by the brothers, Alvin already trying to sneak a box away. Danny quickly moved the wagon away from him. When there was nothing to cleanse, ectoplasm worked like a potent energy drink, and honestly, Alvin did not need more of a reason to get less sleep.
Alvin pouted when his chance to steal a cookie failed.
Cute Thought Danny
Our children will be gorgeous Responded Phantom Make Alvin mate.
Danny ignores Phantom to smile at Manolo. He slips into Spanish, quickly crouching down to be at eye level. "Hi buddy. How is the new sweater treating you?"
Manolo's dimple shows as he pulls the sleeves over his palms. "It's warm. I like how fluffy it is."
Phantom cooed, and a soft purr escaped him before Danny clamped down on the sound. "I'm glad. Ready for another day of deliveries?"
"Yes!" The ten year old chirps snapping the list of names and address out of Danny's hand. The baker laughs, pulling our his wallet.
"I know I can count on you, so I'll pay you upfront. If anyone gives you tips, you can keep them," He says, handing the boy five hundred. Manolo beams, pocketing the money and scurrying away with his wagon.
I want a baby Phantom whines
I'll eat a bagel later, Danny promises.

Fictober23 Prompt: 18 - "We can't do this on our own."
Fandom: DPxDC
Rating: T
Warnings: Slight mentions of DannyXBruce ship
A/N: Inspired by the comments and Reblogs of Prompt 17. I advise to read that one first before reading this, also posting this early because I won't have the time to do that tomorrow. Credits for inspiring this continuation go to @charlietheepic7 and @noxcheshire
After the babysitting disaster Dick had sworn Tim and Damian into secrecy about. The bat-sibling had quickly warmed up to the phantom children and invited them several more times to visit them at the manor. Damian had even doubled his efforts in getting along with them, still believing they were his half siblings, despite Bruce having tried to explain to them in private that this wasn't the case.
Of course that didn't mean that Damian wasn't butting heads with them at all, in fact they were only sitting together like this now because Damian and Dan had gotten into a fight about whether or not Phantom was an adequate partner for Bruce. Dan appeared to have taken offense to that in some form and declared that Bruce was the one not suited to be with his Mom.
The fight ended with Dani, five years old little girl Dani, kicking down both Damian and her own brother, before proceeding to sit on Dan while loudly yelling that he was risking their entire plan of setting up their Mom with Uncle Bruce so Auntie Valerie would stop trying to be their Step Mom. Which brought them back to their current situation of the five of them sitting together in the main hang out room.
Dan grumbled inaudible, arms crossed and glaring at the bat children assembled before him. Dani giggled, nudging her big brother's leg. "Don't go nonverbal now!"
"Nonverbal?" Dick couldn't help but question, causing Dan to snarl at him while Dani still smiled very brightly at them.
"Big Brother sometimes only talks in growls and snarls. Auntie Jazz said it's got something to do with what he's been through. Mom says big brother isn't socialized enough yet." The boy only growled, glaring at them while he pulled the little girl into a hug and made her sit between his legs, making Dani giggle once more grinning bridely. The two Phantom children were seated on a loveseat together now in the general hang out room of Wayne Manor. Dick, Tim and Damian sat across from them on the couch.
The bat kids exchanged glances. Bruce can try as he might, there was no hiding the relation he had with the Phantom kids. There were too many things that added to the fact that the kids had to be Damians half siblings.
Damian looked rather disgruntled, arms also crossed as he turned to return Dan's glare with the same intensity. "Father, may have been trying to hide you from us but his attempts at gaining Nightingale favor are just as pathetic as the excuses he has been giving us in regards to our relation."
Tim arched an eyebrow. "I was not even aware that Bruce tried to flirt with Phantom at all."
Dick patted Tims shoulder in mock condolence. "I have seen the Phantom-Batman dynamic since my days as Robin… It was horrible and painful to watch. Jason can attest to that."
"Mom is as dense as a neutron star." Dan muttered looking away from them.
As if realizing something Dani blinked a couple of times before staring wide eyed at Dick and pointing with one hand at him. "You're the menace Robin! You're the one that asked Superman to throw you high into the air so you could do flips! Mom even said that you asked him once if he could phase you halfway through a wall or turn you invisible to scare your rogues!"
Both Tim and Damian stared at their older brother unimpressed.
"I guess that did happen. Well back to topic!" Dick tried to deflect which sort of worked. But more because Tim got curious about something.
"I don't get how you guys know about us but we didn't know about you two at all. Phantom never mentioned either of you before, not even when he came to visit as Danny. Before we were told about him being Phantom." Tim muttered, completely ignoring Dick as he turned his attention to the two kids. The two children in turn exchanged knowing looks.
"Mom and Auntie Jazz were worried that big brother would get PTSD seeing the Justice League. That's why Uncle Bruce and Superman are the only ones who really knew about us." Dani explained looking up at her older brother who suddenly sported a feral grin, showing off suddenly very sharp appearing teeth. "Though Superman learning about us was more a spur of the moment than intentional telling him."
"Mom was so mad at him." Dan mentioned his sharp teeth glinting as he exchanged a feral look with his sister. It sent a shiver down the batkids' back, making them remember that the kid mentioned he had apparently murdered all of them before. The image of little ten years old Dan standing in a sea of blue fire and laughing like a maniac crossed their minds for a brief moment before they pushed the memories of the babysitting disaster into the depths of their minds again. "He would have beat him up if Uncle Bruce didn't stop him. Instead Mom put Supes through the lecture of a lifetime using us as his how-it's-supposed-to-be example."
"Oh and we met big bro J when Frostbite helped with his treatment!" Dani added clapping her hands together all cutely while her brother on the other hand ended up growling. "He still owns me a spar."
"That… explains nothing." Tim retorted, eyes narrowed at the two kids who only shrugged refusing to explain any more than they had.
Damian meanwhile ended up glaring at nothing as he crossed his arms muttering something about punishing Todd for having been in cahoots with his father and keeping his younger siblings from him. Dick smiled, their youngest apparently really like the thought of having two younger siblings of his own now.
"Can we please get back to topic? About these two trying to set up Danny and Bruce?" Dick tried once more, he really wanted to know more about this whole 'we attempted to set our mom up with Bruce' deal the two kids had going on.
"What is there to question, Richard? My half siblings appear to want for my father and their mother to be together." Damian huffed with his attention being on his eldest brother he did not notice the confused look Dani gave the older boy before looking at her own brother only for Dan to sport a mix of a feral and mischievous grin the girl soon returned when a look of understanding crossed her face briefly.
"So are you guys going to help?" Dani looked at them with big baby blue and pleading eyes. Dan gave them a red eyed glare as if daring them to disagree with his sister. "As big brother said Mom is a neutron star! We can't do this on our own. But now that you guys know you can help!"
The three bat-kids exchanged a look, though it appeared as if Damian had already made a decision on that matter the moment he learned that Phantom was the mother of his half siblings. Dick grinned, pulling out his phone. "If we are going to do this then I am calling in the cavalry."
In other words Dick was going to call in all their siblings as back up. They had been discussing making Phantom, aka Danny Nightingale, a more permanent fixture in their lives before after he had helped Jason. Now they had even more reason to do so with two baby siblings added into their lot.

check out part one “anyone but you”!
warnings: 18+ mdni, smut, PinV, fingering, oral (f!receiving), overstimulation, flirting and just absolute filth
six months after the amazing hook up in omaha, you were now in kansas occupying yet another dive’s stool.
you were flirting with some guy. don, daniel, darren? one of those names. “so what do you do for work darling?” he questioned as you crossed your legs “i’m a..” how do you explain to someone you’re a hunter “i work for a security company” you lied sipping your beer. ‘dean’s probably to drunk to notice anyway…no his name is…’ you trailed off thinking in your head about the events from that glorious night you did sleep with dean. ‘the dean’ your friends called him.
“well i need a security system installed, you up for it?” don flirted before his hand slid up your thigh. why was he so much like dean? moments prior to your reply, the bar’s door opened. you spun in the stool to see who was also looking for liquid courage and music.
dean and sam.
“speak of the devil” fell from your lips in a low tone “huh?” don asked as you spun back towards the liquor wall, your back now to the new comers of the bar, “hey it was nice meeting you dea- don, i meant don..i’m gonna go before i get any more buzzed” you smiled politely getting up and gathering your purse and jacket. “leaving so soon?” you heard from behind you.
turning on your heels to face the two men “sam..” you nodded towards him then released a sigh before looking over to the man you had slept with “..dean”. you weren’t going to bring up anything from the one night stand forever ago. “you look good…” dean started “better than you left me anyway” he shrugged with a smug grin as you scoffed at the pass he made at the hook up “considering, you left me at three in the morning”
did he have some smart ass reply for everything?
“yeah sorry about that, something came up” you stated putting on your jacket and purse “oh i bet” he nodded his tone sarcastic and a tight lipped smile on his face. jerk “so anyway, we’re going home, you want a ride…in my car i mean?” he asked winking at you.
then and there, you wanted him.
it was probably the stare the two of you shared.
“i can get a cab” you told feeling a humid and heavy breeze as you looked intensely at dean. he looks so..fuckable. you wanted badly to see what he could do with his fingers since seeing him tie different knots with rope.
little did you know he wanted just as badly as you did to show you how talented he was with his hands. well, his middle and ring finger to be exact. god, were you jealous of the silver ring that decorated his finger.
secretly wishing it was your va-
“you sure?” the hunter questioned with a smug look “im sorry if im overstepping just..don’t want my baby in the car with a stranger” was when dan got the hint and scurried off. dean laughed stepping closer to you, sam off doing research on their case “lets go talk in the car, it’s too loud in here” as if that bothered dean.
did you refuse? no. how could you?
11:58 pm
heavy breathing filled the impala along with grunts and moans. “damn it girl” dean growled slapping your ass as you recoiled up and down on his wide cock.
“ngh” you moaned at the feeling before dean ducked his head to your breast, sucking. that only made you draw him in closer by wrapping your arms around his neck. “keep going baby, thats right, grind it out” the man instructed snaking one hand down to rub your clit. “aah- wait, right there..fuck im gonna cum” you expressed for the second time this night.
“ride it right, pretty girl” he pleaded with a grin on his face as he slid himself out of you. you felt so empty “why’d you stop?” you question as he laid you down on the reclined seat of the car then began peppering kisses down your face all the way to your wet cunt.
he kissed it a few times before looking up at you with that same smug grin. that was before he stuck in his two fingers as his nose rubbed against your clit “mm” you whined arching your back and tangling your fingers in his hair.
dean then started licking and sucking your sensitive skin. “let me hear how pretty i make you feel” he demanded finger fucking you.
maybe dreams do come true.
“please dean..” you begged as he understood and increased his pace flicking his tongue faster. “shit” you cried out as his talents made your vagina throb.
“you’re doing so good baby, hold it” he praised before leaning down to rub his tongue against the little ball of nerves between your legs. “please, please dean i ca- i can’t” you begged as your thighs swallowed dean whole and you went into a squirting fit.
“ou fuckk” you moaned quivering whilst dean is pushing your legs open and laughing “atta girl” he grinned toying with your clit a bit more before seeing that your eyes went blurry as he stopped to kiss you.
maybe he was the man of your dreams.

・ you can't help but feel bored in class, watching the clock go 'tick-tock! tick-tock! tick-tock!'. your pretty seatmate just happens to be taking notes as the teacher discussed about something.. tapping his shoulder, he looks to you, blinking a few times in confusion. you give a cheeky smile and gesture you want to draw something, your ball pen in the air trying to write out words, blinking a few times again, he lends you his empty hand. looking back in confusion, realizing he wants you to draw on his hand. you do it with an enthusiastic look, leaning your chairs closer together, to get a closer look and tattoo his hand like an artist. as he tried to listen more to the discussion, he can't help but let a chuckle out at your happy expression as you drew stars, cats, and what not on his hand. and 'till class ends, he walks to the canteen with you on his other arm, and the other with doodles all over, out in the open for his friends to see.

I am so sleepy
I was gonna give you Waylon and Danny since I think that came second but I’m not checking
BUT THEN THIS CAME TO ME IN A VISION so here you go, have KON! 😈
Chapter 15 is sitting at 11 500 words rn so it’s soooo close I just got a scene or two to finish up (Bruce suffering Bruce suffering Bruce Suffering)
———————
I’ll Take The Highway part v
Danny couldn’t have missed Constantine making his way up the street blindfolded and with his ears plugged. It might have been the whole “owned his soul” thing.
It also might have been the vortex of swirling magical attention that followed him like a cloud. The guy clearly wasn’t trying to advertise his presence, but to something like Danny…
Well, trying to hide that hard always caught his attention. A magical “nothing to see here” tasted like liquorice in the back of his throat.
Maybe the trench coat was actually cursed, in more than just the unfortunate fashion sense.
Part of him wondered if this had anything to do with them. The rest, well aware what his luck was like, wondered if he’d come barging into the restaurant.
It wasn’t like he shouldn’t be getting ready to go anyway, but he just… well, he was having a surprising amount of fun just hanging out with Waylon.
The guy was old enough to be his dad, but he was a great listener. Really encouraging, and he’d told Danny another couple of stories too, some from his darker times but all with happy endings.
He was probably trying to make Danny feel better after their talk, and it was definitely working. It just… well, he didn’t even really like thinking about Dan.
He’d asked Nocturn to put him to sleep not long after becoming king, to give the guy something to do other than stew in a thermos and plot vengeance.
Part of him still kinda expected that to bite him in the ass, but even if Dan broke out of Nocturn’s dreams, he couldn’t break out of Soup Time. For whatever reason he’d never learned Danny’s portal trick.
All the people who kept souping Danny were dead in Dan’s timeline.
Danny had almost been ready to wrap things up with Waylon (as little as he wanted to; they’d already exchanged numbers) when he felt Jason’s rage bubble.
He didn’t realise he’d blanked out until Waylon tapped the table in front of him with a claw, concern on his scaly face.
“Somethin’ th’ matter, kid?” He asked in a low growl.
Danny shook his head, staring down at the mostly empty milkshake and chugging the rest.
“Probably nothing… just got a bad feeling about Jason,” he explained with a shrug.
Reached out just a little, extending his senses but not aura. If Jason was already mad, that might send him over the edge.
Just as he reached out a sudden flare of fury made his hand clench, the glass he was still grasping shattering. Great, he had a hand full of milkshake and shards.
Shaking both free, Danny shoved his way out of the booth at the same time as Waylon, the big man going from concerned to battle ready in an instant.
For the first time, he almost looked dangerous. Danny was glad to have him at his back for the visual component at least; anyone who didn’t think twice about pissing off a tank like Jason wouldn’t even blink at Danny.
Killer Croc though? He got that name on his looks alone, long before he earned it.
They didn’t even make it across the bar, wait staff scattering to what were clearly well established positions in case trouble came in.
Trouble didn’t; barely.
Jason Todd did, all but vibrating with rage and steaming green with Pitty’s contribution.
Wait; steaming? Jason had mentioned the Lazarus Pits did that, but Danny had never seen ectoplasm steam before. Could everyone see it?
Whether Waylon could or not, it didn’t stop him from hurrying forward, attention fully focused behind Jason for anyone following.
It was maybe the teeniest bit cute that even so angry he had a personal heat haze, Jason didn’t even think Waylon was going for him. His attention was fixed somewhere else; somewhere internal and probably bloody.
Instinct pulled Danny forward, Jason slipping easily into his aura and for a moment Danny felt like he’d drown in Jason’s rage. Answered it himself a moment later, stroking across the anger with worry-protect-safe now.
Jason twitched just a little as the aura washed around him, looking around on automatic until he faced Danny.
The rage softened just a little as he caught Danny’s eye, shoulders sagging. His jaw unclenched enough to talk; visibly enough that it must have been painful.
“Just fucking B again, treating me like a fucking child,” he spat, fists still clenched tight at his sides.
The effort it was clearly taking not to go out and start swinging kept Danny on edge, even as Waylon relaxed.
“Yer a long way from that, kid,” the big guy agreed with a low chuckle, still between Jason and the door, and rested a large hand lightly on Jason’s shoulder. “Want me to go have a word?”
Jason shook his head sharply, the smallest of smiles flicking across his face before the anger replaced it. Yeah, definitely cute.
“No thanks. You’ve only just got out, you don’t need bat trouble again already,” he said through gritted teeth, then nodded to Danny. “I just wanna get out of here.”
Danny nodded immediately, going from maybe-fight to flight. Which was kinda literally an option. Ghosts knew how to make an exit.
“Do you wanna take your bike or just disappear?” He asked simply.
Jason gave him a tight smile, barely layered over anger he was still struggling to control. Fuck, if this was what he’d been dealing with every day before Danny came along…
“Harley’s out back with Batman. I just want to fucking go,” he growled, shaking his head.
Danny nodded again, turning and crouching a little for Jason to hop onto his back.
“Phantom Express it is then.”
And yeah, he knew it looked stupid without Waylon’s confirming snort of laughter.
So did Jason, and the tinge of mirth that coloured his rage-burning-break in his head was more than worth looking silly.
Seemed like Jason was finally starting to trust his strength too as he hopped up without question, Danny not reacting in the slightest to his added weight.
And definitely not the way Jason now towered over him, or having those thighs wrapped around his waist. Nope. No horny in the aura today.
Giving a last nod to Waylon, he turned them both invisible and flew up through the roof, intangibility phasing them through at the last second.
Once they were high enough to be beyond any eavesdropping, he slowed to a stop, not quite looking back at his passenger.
“So, where do you wanna go?”
As Danny had kinda hoped, the sudden exhilaration of flight had tamped Jason’s anger back down until it was less a physical presence. It still seethed and boiled inside him, but it was losing steam.
About half of what he could feel from Jason now was just tired, and honestly? Couldn’t blame him.
Danny had been told how bad his pit rages had been, a visceral wrath that almost possessed Jason and made him lash out in all directions. And by all accounts? He still hadn’t seen the half of it.
It made his core ache just thinking about living with that much rage stuck inside. Feeling like that all the time… Danny had always respected Jason, but this? This demanded a whole new level.
And a little bit made him want to put Jason in a nice ectoplasm hamster ball so he could roll around the streets and nothing would ever hurt him again.
Gonna have to keep that under wraps too, since apparently Danny was losing his fucking mind all up in Gotham.
(Not that he’d never hamster balled anyone before. It was just usually a punishment for Tucker, or Wes if they were being assholes. Derogatory hamster balls were totally fine and not evidence of losing anything at all.)
The man himself was quiet for a long moment, struggling with just everything that was going on inside him.
Danny waited, turning them both intangible again just in case Jason could still be affected by the cold. At this height, it wasn’t exactly pleasant.
Made him side eye all those pictures of witches in dresses and long socks on broomsticks. Good way for the living to get pneumonia, in Danny’s opinion.
Jason didn’t even seem to notice, letting out a frustrated huff of air.
“We’ve gotta get Tucker home. If B is off being an asshole we can at least go to the manor,” he grumbled.
Danny paused for a long moment himself, considering another solution. After all, for ghosts it was simply unthinkable that they hadn’t even had an introductory brawl yet.
Whenever he got that pissed, getting the shit kicked out of him had always helped burn off the energy. But maybe Jason’s was different.
Danny was pretty sure he’d never been that pissed, not even at Pariah. Not even at Agent K.
Danny wouldn’t judge. For now, he nodded, turning to head towards the manor.
“We can go to Frostbite after we’ve dropped Tuck off. It’s been long enough, and you definitely feel stronger?” He offered, kinda hoping it might help Jason feel better.
The grunt he got in return didn’t sound convinced, but Jason also didn’t argue.
Neither of them were expecting to run into traffic in the Gotham airways though, at least not below airline level. Or to be interrupted.
With a sudden loud gust of wind, another black haired young man in a black leather jacket pulled up in front of them, looking around with a frown.
“Hey, I heard someone up here? Jason? Where are you?” He asked loudly, brows furrowing like he was still listening.
Danny’s confusion was better than words as Jason gave his shoulder a quick squeeze.
“Superboy the first. Tim’s boyfriend,” he explained quietly, and Kon’s head whipped around to follow the sound.
“Okay Jason, I know you’re up here, what the fuck?” He asked impatiently, which was when Danny remembered.
Still invisible. Hiding from the Bat and also concerned citizens. He popped them back into visibility with a sheepish grin, waving at… Connor? Or Con? No, kinda sharper. Kon?
It might have been a secret third level of alias, but Danny was pretty sure the bats had called him by a couple names over the various stories.
“Hey… sorry, forgot we were invisible,” he explained, trying not to laugh. Mostly at himself, but best not give the wrong impression.
Superboy’s eyes locked on them for a moment, narrowed briefly, and then his face broke into a grin.
“So, I’m gonna guess you’re Danny, Tucker’s friend that Tim has been gushing about?” He asked eagerly, reclining comfortably in the air. Then paused. “Well, gushing about Tucker. You were mentioned, though.”
That sounded about right.
Danny snickered and nodded, giving Jason a careful reshuffle. If they weren’t gonna be travelling for the moment, they could get a little more comfortable.
Thick thighs tightened around his hips and Danny very specifically did not melt into a puddle of goo. Not even a little bit.
“Yeah, we were just gonna go get Tucker and head out. Are you coming to see Tim?” He asked, kinda half wanting to wait around long enough and see what Tucker and Connor made of each other.
Kon if he was here in official capacity? But he wasn’t exactly wearing a super uniform, or logo. But Jason hadn’t mentioned a name, because Jason wasn’t a helper.
There was one easy way around that though. Bouncing Jason just a little more roughly than strictly necessary, Danny stuck out his hand.
“Danny Fenton, by the way. Since we haven’t been fully introduced.” He gave his best cheerful-but-totally-human grin. No point unnerving the first official alien he met, even if he was only half alien.
The boy reached out easily, giving him a firm handshake back.
“Kon El. Connor when we’re on street level. And yeah, I was just heading the same way when I heard you guys. Tim asked if I’d bring Tucker home though, he wasn’t sure what you guys’ plans were so if you had anything else to do?” He glanced from one to the other, so clearly not asking that he might as well have.
Could Kryptonians see the heat haze of Jason’s anger too? Or did he just know the family well enough, know Jason well enough, to know the signs?
Danny hesitated, glancing over his shoulder at the other halfa. He could almost taste Jason’s indecision, holding each other this close. Bitter and tight in the back of his throat.
How much did he want to deal with his family, with that rage still burning inside him? Hell, they hadn’t even worked out what Jason would do while Danny took Tucker home.
Danny kept quiet though, leaving the choice up to Jason.
It didn’t take long.
Sucking in a deep breath, Jason let out a heavy sigh, a wave of pure relief washing over him.
The anger was still there, a hot little coal right between the dual cores, but it couldn’t drown out the gratitude-sorry-safe. Barely tempered it anymore.
His voice was still gruff when he spoke, still stiff with emotion, but Kon seemed to understand.
“Yeah, that’d be great. Thanks Kon.”
The younger man tipped them both a sarcastic salute, straightening in the air and turning towards Wayne manor.
“You’ve probably got like, a text from Tim about the change of plan, if he even bothered to mention it, but I’ll let him know I saw you. Seems like you’re sticking around, so I’ll probably run into you again, Danny.” He gave them both a cheery nod and flew away.
A tiny part of Danny was sorry that they wouldn’t be around to watch Tucker spiral when confronted with Tim’s boyfriend.
Tim Drake Wayne was a hottie, no point denying it, and he was easily Tucker’s second biggest tech crush beside the mysterious Oracle. With all that hero worship though?
Tucker probably hadn’t actually noticed he was also hot yet. He’d have been in love with him if he’d looked like a snail.
Kon El though? Kon El had exactly the kind of leather jacket, too cool for school, sculpted good looks that Tucker fell head over heels for on any gender.
(Danny absolutely was not a hypocrite, he’d be the very first to admit that he and Tucker had very similar taste in partners, at least as far as appearances. Tucker just preferred a little more “step on me” energy.)
In all the reminders that Tim had a boyfriend, no one had said his boyfriend was hot.
Danny didn’t mention it. It wasn’t like he’d have been able to fully enjoy things anyway; the night before had proved that, and Jason’s mood had been rosy by comparison.
He did offer just one comment though, watching Kon fly away thoughtfully.
“Should we have warned him that Tucker is going to spontaneously combust if Kon tells him to ride him?” He asked mostly hypothetically, fading them out of visibility and tangibility again.
It startled Jason into letting out a snort of laughter which became a cough with his last rasp of thinner air.
“You just did, with Kon’s hearing,” he managed once he could talk normally again, and Danny considered feeling bad about it.
That sizzling coal of rage was almost buried under amused-anticipation-relief.
Nah. No matter what form Tucker’s next wave of vengeance took, this was worth it.
“So, where to next?” He asked, again… kinda hypothetically. From Jason’s sigh the older man was just as aware of what the answer had to be.
“Let’s just fucking go see Frostbite. If I keep looking at the city something’s gonna piss me off again.” He sounded reluctant, resigned, but a slow creeping glow of amazement spread through his aura.
About to pop open another portal, Danny tipped his head up as far as he could and made them visible again, looking for his face.
“What’s up?” He asked, willing to put dimensional travel on hold if there was anything they might be able to do to actually help.
Jason shook his head to focus himself, glancing down at Danny and quickly looking away. Was Danny imagining that sweet pink blush in his cheeks?
“It’s nothing.”
Danny waited, secure in the actual empathic sensation of Jason warring with himself on his back. Finally he won (and also lost, as all civil wars end) and sighed.
“Just. I’ve never come out of the pit rage this fast before,” he admitted gruffly, glaring down at the sparkling lights of the city below. Like this wasn’t something to celebrate.
Danny let them fade back to invisibility, since Jason pretty clearly didn’t want to be looked at.
“Hey, that’s great news! We’ll just have to short circuit Tucker’s gay ass every time you need a boost,” he chirped brightly, and popped the portal open to Jason’s laughter.

Chloe Decker Tickle Headcannons
Tumblr media
(Credit to the gif owner!)
(This isn’t a request but I have been OBSESSED with the characters as I was watching Lucifer! I just had to make headcannons :3 oh also sorry if they aren’t the best I have only seen one season of the show also this is my second ever official headcannon post! ❤️)
Ler
Can we start with the fact that that woman is a mom and a detective? She has motherly tickle experience from Trixie!
Fighting crime all day makes her tough and strong! She can pin you if need be.
She loves little tickle fights or play-wrestling with someone and then getting them with tickles! >:3
Also, you can’t tell me that she doesn’t growl when she's the ler! 🫣
Chloe is the master at tickle hugs! If you two get into a silly argument and she forgives you with a hug, watch your back! I mean, literally, watch your back. She will scribble her nails all over your back, sides, and hips!
Back on the growling thing, if play-fighting in a tickle hug or trapped in cuddle tickles, she will growl into your neck or tummy while she noms and nuzzles.
Oh, and don’t even think about getting into a chase with her. She will catch you!
She will pretend to be grumpy, but that fades quickly into a teasy, happy smile.
Her favorite lees are Dan, Lucifer, and Trixie! Oh, and of course, Y/N.
If you work with her, expect lots of pokes and pinches throughout the case! And if it’s a tough case, she will do some tickly cuddles and takeout for the two of you to relax.
If you're in a Lee mood, she can tell! She’s super intelligent and a detective (and a total ler). She will sniff out your lee mood so quickly that it’s like she has a lee mood radar. 👀
Also, my god, this girl can tease! I mean, have you seen her banter with Lucifer?
She will use your words against you and make you so blushy. Anything you say will be used against you!
Also, she doesn’t always have her hair down, but if she does, she might “accidentally” let it drag over your tickle spots.
Chloe is also very loving! If you two are close enough, she will do lots of tickly nuzzles, kisses, raspberries, etc. 🥰
Lee
I think Chloe is more ler than lee, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t ticklish.
Chloe’s tickle spots are hips, neck, feet, wrists, and underarms.
Her main lers are Lucifer and Dan!
This girl is a fighter plus she also has some trust issues, so you rarely get lee Chloe, but it's possible.
If you're someone she trusts, you may see it! Just make sure you're ready to pin her down because if you don’t, you could get kicked. (Dan learned that one when they were dating)
Sneaking up behind her is a terrible idea unless you get her hips. If you do get her hips, she will double over, but if you don't, well let’s say Lucifer got a black eye one time 😅😂
She definitely will try to tickle or tease her ler back. Lee!Chloe happens most often in tickle fights!
She does have some other tickle spots but they are less tickly and more relaxing like her back and arms!
This girl loves those relaxing back and arm tickles while snuggling or when she’s stressed from work. ❤️
(Thank you to @the-gingerbread-lee for editing!)

Secret fetish/preference in bed of each of the EC boys? 🫢
oh goodness.... sorry for the delay but I've had to have a think about some of these 🤔
thoughts below
Dan H: I feel strongly about the rope bondage thing lmao. yes I am stereotyping that man no I do not care. boy is tying ppl in literal knots like his life depends on it.
Nico: I'm thinking pretty rough/primal puppy play. not so much in a pet/master dynamic but just like. he likes to fight for dominance and growl and shit, and when he DOES inevitably wrestle the other person into physical submission he's all smug grins while he fucks them senseless 🥴🥴🥴
Kevin: well my main thing about Kevin is that I think he skews about 99.9% submissive lol. maybe he is into a pet/master dynamic but specifically one where he's the obedient good boy who always gets his rewards 😌✨ because I think even though he's got this tendency to project a flirty playboy with his interactions, as soon as someone's responding positively the internal switch flips to "attention? for ME??? yes good more please what do I do where do I go" etc. etc.
Dan K: this one was tough!! I don't feel like I have a great handle on him. but something makes me want to say being blindfolded 👀
Pascal: if anyone in that group is an exhibitionist it's him. well. and also Kevin lol but in Kevin's case I think it's like a welcome thing when it happens but Pascal SEEKS IT OUT. I'm so sure he has a folder of tasteful AND tasteless nudes he's taken of himself 😌
David: AGAIN don't feel like I have a super solid characterization of David at this point, at least not in terms of sex lmao. but I could see him being into verbal teasing/light verbal degradation. mostly as the teaser but also probably on the receiving end sometimes

Daniel hovering around just in case Max needs his help? That’s his bestie and he doesn’t care if it’s the princess, if someone hurts Max he’ll wage war. He’s taken a leave of absence in anyways so he might as well stick around. He gets them food and water. He has a beta hand it to them because he’s not about to lose a hand or his head. He’s also a little worried about the after care. Maybe Max has a really bad come down from his heats? He struggles a bit with his omega side so heats are rough on him. He hates being vulnerable and he has no choice during those days. He’s laid bare and weak and he hates it. Daniel has learnt how to take care of Max afterward and he’s worried the princess will leave once Max’s heat breaks, that it’s just a good fuck and nothing more. He’s so relieved when Charles stays. She can see Max needs a lot of comfort and aftercare. She’s so gentle with him. She orders him a bath and washes him. Max doesn’t want to let go of her at all. Charles hand feeds him. Always with Max in her lap or resting against her. She doesn’t want to leave once Max is okay. Her alpha has picked her omega and it’s Max. She’ll need to handle this with her brothers. Rumours can’t spread that she’s fucking a guard.
Daniel teases Max a little about the princess afterwards, Max is littered in bruises and marks. And Max is clearly more than a little sore. Daniel does check in and make sure he made the right call, that Max wanted the princess though. He needs his bestie to be safe and loved.
Plss Dan already,having the day off anyway so he lounges around and makes sure Max still smells okay, and has beta Checo or Val bring them the food and drinks he collects for them, because hr knows princess will definitely twist his neck if he were to go in now.
Dan knows Max hates being vulnerable and dislikes his Heats very strongly. He likes the sex, enjoys it, but hates being vulnerable and always thinks people will think less of him...
When Dan smells Max's heat is breaking, he is more tense, not sure if the princess will leave right after and not bother to do aftercare when Dan knows Max needs thst so badly! He needs to be cuddled and praised and spoiled so he doesn't feel guilty or insecure!
But naturally, Charles stays, pampering her Omega and making sure he is fed snd bathed and always checking in if he is happy. Max is blushing but loves the attention, especially relieved when Charles still kisses him a lot! Even when Max is okay, Charles is reluctant to leave. Dan eventually goes into the room, which makes Charles growl deep in her chest, but he bows and softly says Charles perhaps should talk to her brother, and Dan will bring Max back to his own chambers!
Charles reluctantly leaving and Dan hugs Max quickly, making sure he is okay and happy and ofc teasing him a lot too lol<3

One's Hometown, One's New Home
Chapter Three: Curious Encounter
Masterpost | First | Previous | Next | Ao3
@tss-anxceit-week
Summary: Janus’ hometown is a usually quiet place where everyone knows everyone. So when someone new moves in, they’re usually the hottest topic of local gossip. The newcomer then comes by the library Janus works at, he can’t help but chat with him a little. Doesn’t hurt that he’s good looking as well.
Content Warnings: Injured Animal, Wolf, Unsafe interactions with wild life
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Janus loved taking walks in the woods by himself. He enjoyed the quiet, of course he did, he was a librarian, but it was a different sort of quiet than at his work. The wind dancing through the leaves, birds singing, a brook babbling nearby. It contrasted heavily with the quiet humming of the air conditioning in the library as well as the whispers of visitors and the turning of pages. Still, Janus could appreciate both types of silence.
Thankfully for him, this Sunday was once again without a single cloud in the sky without being overwhelmingly hot. He let his mind wander as his feet carried him along a familiar path through the trees, towards a small lake he likes to visit every once in a while.
His thoughts drifted to Virgil. He hadn’t seen him since he stormed out of Dan’s shop. It wasn’t that strange he supposed. None of the books he borrowed after their first meeting were due, so there wasn’t an incentive for him to come by the library and while Janus did know where he lived, he hadn’t acquired that information through Virgil himself, so he didn’t want to drop by unannounced, especially after how their last meeting ended.
So, Janus left it up to fate to determine when they’ll cross paths again.
Or the dues of the library he supposed.
Of course, if Virgil wanted to avoid him, Janus wouldn’t stop him. He had every right to cut off contact if he made him uncomfortable, but for some reason, Janus didn’t think that was the crux of the problem.
Virgil’s eyes in that moment… Well, they hadn’t seemed like they were looking at him with discomfort, if he thought back to it.
No, he looked like he was afraid.
But afraid of what? Of Janus?
No, he didn’t think so. He had flirted with Virgil from the first moment they met, and he had responded positively, even if Janus was the most direct at the end of their last conversation.
Maybe Virgil really had just remembered something and needed to leave so suddenly because of it, just like he had said?
Again, Janus didn’t think that was the whole truth.
But he couldn’t figure out why he thought that.
Just intuition, he supposed.
Suddenly, a sound startled him out of his thoughts. He stopped and listened.
There! A huffing of some sort.
Janus tried to spy through the trees to see what was making the noise, but he couldn’t see anything.
A growl followed by a whine.
An injured animal? If so, it would be a big one to make such sounds.
The logical side of Janus’ brain told him to stay away, to leave, go back home and not get involved, but… There was a part of him that was convinced he should check it out.
It was the part that won.
Carefully, Janus left the path. He made sure to check his compass that he always carried with him when he entered the woods, just in case. Yes, he’s been running around these woods since he was a child, but that was exactly why he knew not to underestimate the dangers they could hold as well.
He moved slowly. Calculating every step, looking out for traps the local hunters and or rangers might have placed. Trying to stay quiet as much as possible.
The sounds got louder.
It was definitely an animal. And as Janus peered around a tree, he saw it.
A wolf.
It was alone, staring at the ground and switching between whines and growls. Janus followed its line of sight and spotted the problem: the wolf left back leg was stuck in a bear trap. There weren’t a lot of bears around these parts – or wolves for that matter – but the few that wandered around could be a potential danger, so the local rangers placed some traps strategically to ward them off.
Honestly, Janus didn’t think that the trap was as sharp as it could be. He hardly saw any blood clinging to the wolf’s fur but he’s sure the force of it engaging could have caused an injury.
He was unsure of what to do.
Unconsciously he shifted a bit, enough to make noise and get the wolf’s attention. It snapped its head in Janus’ direction and growls loudly.
With raised hands, Janus steps out from behind the tree. Why exactly he didn’t know himself, it just felt like the right thing to do.
“Hey there. I’m not here to hurt you.” He spoke calmly while taking careful steps towards the trapped wolf. It stared at him intently, watching every move he made and growled once he got too close. Janus stopped at the warning and looked over to the caught leg.
His first impression turned out to be true. The teeth of the trap had been dulled and didn’t pierce the animal’s flesh as much though there was definitely blood. He was sure however, that the animal could survive the injury if it was set free.
“You’re in a bad situation, aren’t you?” he continued talking soothingly, staying still for now. “I can help you if you let me.”
The wolf’s leg twitched. It looked between the trap and Janus, as if contemplating his words.
Which was definitely not what was actually happening, a wolf couldn’t understand him.
Still, despite being trapped, it hadn’t actually shown a lot of aggression towards Janus. Yes, it growled at him when he got to close but that was it. It wasn’t baring its teeth or trying to get away from him.
Janus watched it for a moment longer and to his surprise, the wolf laid down on the ground, stretching its caught leg away from its head. He took it as permission and slowly started moving again. Walking in a half circle to stay away from its head and in turn sharp teeth, Janus approached the trap.
He had learned to engage and open these traps as a child, as had everyone who grew up around these parts as a safety precaution. He knelt down by the wolf’s side, keeping an eye on its head the entire time and got to work.
It didn’t take long before he pulled the metal teeth apart and as soon as he did, the animal pulled away. It limped a few steps away before stopping and looking back at Janus, who had remained still by the trap.
They stared at each other for a long moment before the wolf left, dragging its foot behind it.
Janus waited until he was sure it was gone before standing up.
In all honesty, he should be dead. Approaching an injured, wild animal while it was trapped was a death wish.
And yet he wasn’t even so much as injured.
Peculiar indeed.
[ID: gif of Dan calling after a trick-or-treater to leave his house alone in the Halloween Apocalypse. end ID]
Dan had had his good share of Halloween visits. Friendly and cute ones with little children all dressed up in colourful costumes, annoying ones of teens and adults who were mostly looking to prank him, and once he had been abducted by a grumpy space dog. What he hadn't experienced yet - and frankly he would have given half the world to avoid the experience - was opening the door on halloween night, expecting trick-or-treaters and coming face to face with a Dalek.
He didn't scream, he didn't think, merely froze and the primary thought in his head was "my parents are upstairs". He wasn't quite sure whether that was a concern because they would be in danger right after his inevitable extermination or because he could have used them at his side - they had proven to be remarkably efficient alien hunters with the Sontarans after all. Just that Sontarans weren't even half as scary as the tincan currently training its gun at him.
"TRICK OR TREAT" the Dalek demanded and Dan did a double take.
"What?" he managed to get out and it was quite stupid probably, arguing with a killing machine instead of - you know - running away, but he was too puzzled to do anything else.
"TRICK OR TREAT" the Dalek repeated. "I HEARD YOU HAD SWEETS, IDIOT."
"Idiot?" Dan repeated in confusion. "That doesn't sound like a Dalek. That sounds like…"
Now that he paid closer attention, it wasn't a metal casing in front of him. Merely some cheap cardboard painted to look like a Dalek that someone had stuck a plunger and a whisk onto. And that voice, it was a good imitation, he had to give him that, but it had changed a bit on the last sentence, taking on the gruff undertone of -
"Karvanista?" he asked incredulously. "Is that you?"
"Well done, human" his dog soulmate-or-whatever appeared behind the Dalek mock-up. "You're smarter than you look, after all. Not like that's hard."
"Missed you too" Dan said fondly, but then he glared. "But did you have to scare me like that!"
"Come on" Karvanista boasted. "It was hilarious. You should have seen your face! Priceless."
"What are you doing here, anyway?" Dan asked. "Aren't you off, flying around the universe with Vinder and Bel?"
"Aren't you off, flying around the universe with the Doctor and Yaz?" Karvanista mimicked him mockingly and Dan shrugged.
"Touché" he admitted. "But seriously? Do I have to expect a big dog at my doorstep for every Halloween now?"
"I am not a dog" Karvanista growled. "I'm a Lupar!"
"Yeah, yeah" Dan said dismissively.
Karvanista rolled his eyes. "Can I come in now?"
"Jury's still out" Dan teased, although he was, of course, more than happy to welcome his friend.
Karvanista let the Dalek costume drop to the floor, revealing a steaming bowl in his other paw. "I've brought food."
"Well in that case" Dan opened the door wide, letting Karvanista step inside. At least he had the manners to wipe his boots on the doormat while sniffing the new surroundings curiously.
"This will be the most awkward 'meet the parents' in the history of the universe" Dan muttered, closing the door behind them. He could already hear someone approaching the stairs on the upper floor. "Not like we're dating or anything."
"Obviously" Karvanista agreed. "No offence, but I can do better."
"No offence?" Dan repeated incredulously. "You can't just say 'no offence' and then say something offensive like it's fine!"
"I just did, keep up" Karvanista pressed the bowl of food into Dan's hands. "Now be a good human and bring this into the kitchen while I say hello to your parents. I hope they are more agreeable than you."
"No way I am leaving them alone with you!" Dan said. "I don't need my parents abducted!"
Karvanista rolled his eyes. "They're not my assigned humans, remember? You are. Although technically, all of Earth are my assigned humans now but I am choosing to ignore that. You can fend for yourselves for all I care."
"I am sorry" Dan said softly putting a hand onto Karvanista's arm. He hadn't meant to bring up the death of the Lupari.
"Yeah, whatever" Karvanista huffed but he didn't shake off the hand. "Are you going to bring the food to the kitchen now? It won't taste good if it gets cold."
"Sure" Dan agreed. "Just, come with me, maybe. My parents are tough, but they shouldn't have to face a giant dog in the hallway by themselves."
"Not a dog" Karvanista growled but he followed him into the kitchen readily.
"By the way" Dan said while setting the bowl onto the counter. "Thank you for showing up for Halloween, it's nice to have you 'round."
"Course I'd come, idiot" Karvanista said, elbowing him fondly. "It's our day after all."
Happy Halloween!
Dan’s First Full Moon
Content warning for:
-graphic violence
-blood
-animal violence
-death
Kevin triple-checks his inventory and runs through anything he might potentially need as well. As the full moon approached, Kevin anxiously demanded he pick Dan up for his friend’s first transformation. He felt and still feels incredibly responsible for Dan becoming a bitten werewolf so he’s going to do everything in his power to keep Dan safe from himself.
They had been talking after Dan’s impromptu hospital visit about the wonderful and scary new changes his body will go through. Kevin joked that it felt like explaining puberty except with more teeth and fur in the hopes it would lighten the mood. Thankfully, Dan replied with another joke. Kevin warned Dan of the sensitivity to light, sound, and smell as his eyes, ears, and nose adjust to the lycanthropy. His nose especially will make it hard to be outside because of the onslaught of new smells all at once.
“Sometimes you’ll feel really lonely. That’s normal so don’t be afraid to reach out to friends and family. That’s the wolf in you trying to find comfort in a pack,” Kevin explained on a call one night. “Next time you visit, I’ll teach you about pack life and we can howl together to strengthen pack bond. If you don’t mind that I consider you part of my pack that is,” Kevin feels embarrassed for suggesting it but making a pack with Dan will ease the new werewolf’s loneliness. If Dan decides to have different packmates that don’t include Kevin, he doesn’t think he’d mind that too much. Kevin was the one who failed to protect Dan after all. Why would he want someone weak in his pack?
Kevin drove to Dan’s and picked him up in the afternoon since the drive to the forest where Kevin normally shifts is rather far. The drive is so tense Kevin is worried Dan might snap from the pressure. His hands are clenched into fists so tightly Dan’s knuckles are white. Dan finally breaks the silence, Kevin pretending not to hear Dan’s heartbeat thrumming in his chest.
“Is this normal? To feel so tense and so tired?” Dan asks softly.
“Yeah, especially for your first shift,” Kevin replies. “It’s probably going to be the most uncomfortable you’ll feel.” Dan grumbles at that. The sound almost becomes a growl, which Kevin picks up on. Silence stretches between them until Dan seems to steel himself.
“What’s it like for you when you shift on a full moon?” Dan asks. He shifts his gaze from the road so he can look at Kevin. Kevin briefly matches Dan’s gaze but keeps his posture relaxed so Dan’s lupine instincts don’t take this as a challenge. He doesn’t want to appear threatening.
“Since I was born a werewolf, I technically don't have to shift on the full moon but it hurts when I don’t. Kinda like I worked out super hard the day before so my muscles are super achy and sore. Actually shifting? I’ve been doing it so much I barely feel it. But the other bitten werewolves I’ve met say their first shift hurts a lot because it takes the longest,” Kevin admits. “Sorry, that’s not very helpful.” He offers Dan a weak smile. Dan returns the smile.
“It’s okay. I’m just a bit anxious about it. You’ve done this before right?” Dan asks worriedly.
“Of course! I’ve told you before; I come from a family of born werewolves who take care of freshly bitten werewolves and show them how to wolf,” Kevin assures.
“What would the ideal scenario be tonight?” Dan asks as he plays with the hem of his jacket. Kevin flashes his eyes up to the sky before flicking them back down to the road. He tightens his grip on the wheel.
“You don’t immediately see me as a threat and we can run in the woods together. But that’s only happened a handful of times of the tens of bitten werewolves we’ve helped. Most of the time, we’ve had to tie them up so they don’t attack humans. We typically put muzzles on bitten werewolves after they shift in case they get loose and try to bite someone.” Dan visibly wilts at that to the point Kevin could practically smell his apprehension.
“You’ll stop me before I get loose, right?” Dan asks, voice shaky. Kevin spares a glance from the road and makes eye contact and Dan catches his breath. Kevin’s expression is resolute and probably the most somber Dan’s ever seen him.
“On my life, I’ll stop you,” Kevin promises. Something in Dan’s chest loosens and he finds himself sighing with relief, grateful that Kevin will protect others from him. Dan’s eyes are glassy as he smiles weakly at Kevin.
“Thank you Kevin,” Dan says softly. The rest drive of the drive is spent in silence except for the sound of Dan’s heart beating, albeit slower than earlier. It feels all too long and too fast as they race the setting sun to the forest. By the time they’ve reached the woods, the sun has completely sunk below the horizon. Kevin exits the driver’s seat pops the trunk open. The boxes of supplies he brought greet him, the silver chains sitting on top, front and center. Slipping on a pair of leather gloves, he takes the silver chains and lock and wraps them around the trunk of a large tree. Kevin can feel Dan’s eyes watching him intensely. He tries not to shiver. Kevin then pulls out a collar and muzzle from the box and puts them into the pocket in his hoodie. They were specially made by born werewolves so they’re woven with silver threads. Because it’s only thread, the collar and muzzle can still break but it’ll just take a lot longer. It also won’t burn as badly as pure silver like the chains. Kevin shuts the trunk door and just finishes attaching the collar to the chain when a sharp gasp from the passenger seat brings Kevin’s attention back to Dan as he spills from the car onto the grass.
“Shit,” Kevin curses as he rushes to Dan’s side. The moon is just barely filtering through the trees but it’s enough to spur Dan’s transformation. Dan cries out and his hand reaches out desperately so Kevin grasps it firmly. He doesn’t care that Dan his gripping it too tightly, using his werewolf strength unintentionally. He needs to be strong for Dan. He needs to be here for Dan. Dan’s body curls in on itself as his bones start rearranging themselves, cracking and mending in a cacophony of pain. He howls in agony as he squeezes Kevin’s hand, fresh claws digging into his skin. Dan’s face elongates into the muzzle of a wolf’s as his teeth become fangs that pick up the light of the moon. He’s panting heavily through the entire transformation, which Kevin chooses to see as a good thing. Blood seeps from Dan’s gums while his jaws were clenched from the pain. Dan’s snout is long for a wolf and Kevin can’t help but empathize with how it must have felt like an agonizing eternity during the shift. Kevin runs his fingers through Dan’s hair to soothe him, if only a little. Dark brown, wavy fur soon covers Dan’s whole body and he has to let go of Kevin’s hand as his hands turn into paws. A tail sprouts slowly from the base of Dan’s spine before it’s covered in fluffy fur.
Kevin steps back as Dan finishes his transformation with a final whimpering howl and collapses onto his side. It took a lot less time than bitten werewolf transformations he’s overseen in the past but it leaves him wary. He stays crouched and still as Dan catches his breath. Then, Dan slowly gets to his feet and sniffs the air. Now that Dan’s standing, Kevin can see he’s not dissimilar from how he is as a human. Everything about his wolf form is long and lithe. Kevin reminds himself not to underestimate Dan because he’s small and skinny as a wolf. But he makes a mental note to still be careful with Dan because of his lung.
Once Dan’s breathing evens out, his eyes bore straight into Kevin. Kevin inhales sharply when Dan makes eye contact. Dan’s eyes are fully reflecting the moon: his pupils a bright yellow while his irises are their normal pale blue. Before Dan can move, Kevin lunges at him and grabs his scruff with one hand and wraps his other arm around Dan’s head. Dan snarls and tries to free himself from Kevin’s grasp, snapping his jaws at the air. His shoulder is immediately complaining from the position but Kevin drags Dan to the collar attached to the silver chains. He lets go of the hand holding Dan’s scruff and snatches the collar from the ground, quickly wrestling Dan to the ground. Kevin holds one knee against Dan’s head and the other against Dan’s shoulder as he clips the collar around the werewolf’s neck. Now that Dan is chained to the tree, Kevin gets off of him and hastily retreats. Dan snaps at his heels only to be pulled back by the chain. He snarls at Kevin, saliva dripping from his fangs. Kevin sighs, resting against the side of his car. At least his lung doesn’t seem bothered from Kevin pinning Dan down.
“I’ll put the harness on you later so you don’t end up choking because of the collar,” Kevin tells Dan. His words don’t have any effect, which is expected. “I really hope I don’t have to hurt you. I’d rather not need to shift in order to stop you from killing someone.” Dan bares his teeth at Kevin before biting his chains. “No Dan, stop!” Kevin cries, leaping up from his reclined position as the silver burns Dan’s mouth. Dan, seeing Kevin rushing at him, growls and goes to bite him. Kevin throws his arm between him and Dan as teeth sink into his flesh. Kevin clenches his jaw so as not to cry out and further aggravate Dan. He uses his free hand to wrench Dan’s fangs from his arm but to no avail. Dan doesn’t want to let go. Kevin stares into Dan’s empty eyes, trying to see some semblance of him in there but he’s not there. So Kevin patiently waits for Dan to tire, ignoring the pain in his shoulder and arm.
“Let go, Dan,” Kevin commands. Dan does not listen or acknowledge that Kevin is speaking. He keeps staring into Kevin’s eyes. So Kevin decides to switch tactics. He throws his head back and howls, low and melodic. Dan freezes, his hold on Kevin’s arm loosening slightly. It’s just enough for Kevin to pry his jaws open and swiftly pull the muzzle from his pocket and slip it over Dan’s face. By the time Dan can react, the muzzle is securely fastened. Dan spits and growls, thrashing his head around to try and shake the muzzle off. Kevin steps back and exhales, finally taking the time to inspect his injury. He rolls the sleeve of his hoodie up and winces. It’s going to be a messy heal but it will heal nonetheless. Kevin slides the sleeve back down, the throbbing pain in his shoulder making itself known. He watches as Dan tries desperately to get the muzzle off, now fully ignoring the chain. Dan switches from whipping his head back and forth to rubbing his face against the ground and pushing at the muzzle with his paws. Thankfully for Kevin, Dan’s snout is longer than most werewolves’ so the muzzle won’t be going anywhere.
Kevin groans and sinks down, resting his back against his car. He takes a deep breath before running his hand down his face, sparing a glance at Dan. The bitten werewolf has stopped moving and is now staring at Kevin unblinkingly, his head somewhat bowed. Kevin huffs a chuckle before howling again, albeit weaker than last time. Dan’s head perks up as he watches Kevin howl. Kevin tries again, listening for Dan to make any sound with him. What he doesn’t expect is Dan to attempt to howl too but it’s a horrible screaming sound instead. Kevin can’t help but laugh at Dan’s pitiful howl but maybe it’s because of the muzzle. Kevin watches Dan try to howl again but he still can’t seem to figure it out.
“You’ll get it one day,” Kevin promises. “When you have a pack of your own, you’ll be howling properly in no time.” Dan, surprisingly, tilts his head at that. Kevin chuckles. “I’m assuming you’ll make your own pack after all. I’m just temporary pack since I’m the one that got you in this mess in the first place,” Kevin rambles, wincing as pain shoots up his arm again. Dan regards Kevin dubiously before pacing around as far as the chain will let him. “I know you’re restless but I can’t let you off the chain,” Kevin apologizes. Dan snorts at that and keeps pacing around. Kevin smiles and shakes his head at Dan before slowly getting up. He might as well bandage his arm since he doesn’t think he needs to shift tonight. It seems like Dan isn’t particularly bloodthirsty anymore.
Kevin removes his leather gloves and takes one of the small bottles of water he packed and cleans his arm with it. He takes the rest of the water and pours it into a bowl for Dan, placing it down where Dan can reach it. Kevin doesn’t turn his back on Dan, instead, he slowly backs up while watching the wolf. Dan approaches the bowl of water, giving it a precursory sniff before attempting to drink from it. Kevin smiles to himself before going back to bandaging his arm. With his bite wound sufficiently cleaned and dressed now, Kevin lowers his sleeve over the bandages and reclines against the side of his car with a sigh. His shoulder pain is ever present now but he doesn’t want to take any painkillers yet. Suddenly, Dan starts growling, pulling the chain taut with so much force that it shakes the tree it’s attached to. Kevin is immediately on guard but when he sees that Dan isn’t directing his aggression towards him, he follows Dan’s gaze. There’s a figure wearing dark camouflage clothing and night vision goggles. It isn’t until Kevin hears the click that he puts it together. Without missing a beat, Kevin barrels into Dan, knocking him over as he hears a bullet wiz over his back. Dan, already agitated, tries to sink his teeth into Kevin but the muzzle stops him. He snarls and scratches at Kevin to get him off and away from him instead. Dan shoves Kevin off of him with his hind paws, knocking the wind from his lungs. Dan is immediately pinning Kevin down by his shoulders, causing Kevin to cry out. There’s the sound of cocking a gun.
“Don’t shoot him! Please, don’t shoot!” Kevin shouts to the camouflaged figure. “He’s tied up and can’t bite anyone, please don’t shoot him!” The figure doesn’t respond, keeping their aim steady. Dan looms over Kevin with his teeth bared and ready to strike. The stranger must have taken a step forward to “help” Kevin because there’s a snap of a twig and Dan lunges for Kevin. Except the muzzle keeps his jaws shut and Dan ends up slamming his nose into Kevin’s eye. It would have been funny if not for the imminent danger. Kevin, taking this as a window of opportunity, grabs Dan by the scruff and rolls them both over so that Kevin is freed from being pinned. Using the spin’s momentum, Kevin shoves Dan away from him and hobbles over to the figure as he blinks the pain from his eye. Dan writhes and pulls against the chain violently to try and get to either of them. Kevin stays crouched and puts a hand to his shoulder. He should have taken the painkillers earlier.
“Are you one too?” the figure asks. Kevin’s head shoots up in alarm.
“No! Just my friend! I offered to help him with his transformation tonight!” Kevin lies. The stranger’s gaze drifts to Kevin’s arm where the sleeve is still bloody.
“Did he bite you?” the figure asks, taking a step towards Kevin. Dan shrieks, the chain holding him at bay rattling violently.
“No, he just scratched me,” Kevin lies again. They contemplate Kevin’s answers before turning their gun back on Dan.
“I’m doing you a favor, kid,” the stranger says before they pull the trigger. Time slows as Kevin propels himself forward, feeling his body shift in mid-air. Outstretched hands become claws. His teeth sharpen in his open jaws as his scream becomes a howl. While the night vision goggles and mask cover the stranger’s face, Kevin can smell the shock and fear burst from them as he sinks his fangs into their neck. Kevin gives the stranger a swift death. He hates how the blood floods his mouth. It tastes of the stranger’s life flashing before their eyes. He then turns his attention to Dan who appears unharmed. Dan doesn’t smell of gunpowder or blood. In fact, there is a neat bullet hole in the ground a little ways past where Dan is standing. Kevin limps over and digs up the bullet and the bullet from earlier, taking them in his teeth delicately before depositing them next to his car. Once the bullets are accounted for, Kevin makes his way over to Dan to double-check that he’s fine. Kevin sniffs Dan all over and deems him perfectly fine. Kevin then gives Dan a lick on the head before limping over to the corpse. Kevin paws at the jacket they’re wearing and reveals several silver knives, silver bullets, and a vial of dried wolfsbane. Werewolf hunter.  Kevin huffs and shakes his head. What a mess. He grabs the corpse by the collar and drags it away from Dan. If someone comes looking for whoever this was, Kevin doesn’t want them finding Dan.
Kevin walks back, in human form, to where he chained Dan to the tree and is pleasantly surprised to see that Dan is relatively calm. Of course, his eyes were staring straight in Kevin’s direction before he even saw him. “Did ye have a good time out here alone?” Kevin asks lightheartedly. Dan doesn’t respond at all but Kevin slowly notices all the scuffs on the ground. Dan must have tried to chase things but the chain kept him from pursuing.
“We should probably leave,” Kevin mutters. He picks up the silver bullets barehanded, hissing from the contact, and slides them into his pocket. He’ll stash them away later. Kevin checks his phone for the time and the screen informs him it’s an hour or two from dawn. Perfect. Kevin finally takes some painkillers for his shoulder. Thankfully his lycanthropy doesn’t let his injury get too bad but it can only do so much. He hasn’t seen many werewolves heal back 100% after being hit by a car, human form or not.
Kevin slips his leather gloves back on as he approaches Dan. “We’re going for a trip, Dan,” Kevin explains briefly as he unlocks the chain from the tree. He grips the end tightly, anticipating that Dan would try and chase after something as soon as he was free. Dan predictably starts pulling but he’s pulling in the direction Kevin dragged the body away. “No no no, we’re not going over there,” Kevin chides hurriedly as he starts leading Dan towards the car instead. It’s a struggle since Dan does not seem to want to get into the car so Kevin finally gives in and picks Dan up and manhandles him into the car and shuts the door.
“Oh feck, seatbelts,” Kevin sighs. He checks the trunk for if he brought the harness specifically for buckling into a seatbelt and after digging through the boxes, he remembers he has the harness in his hoodie pocket. He closes the trunk door and makes his way to the backseat. He opens it slowly and is ready for when Dan tries to bolt out but Kevin bodily blocks him and attempts to quickly get the harness onto the bitten werewolf. “Sorry Dan, this is mildly inconvenient,” Kevin apologizes as Dan snarls and tries to bite him as Kevin wrestles the harness onto Dan. Now that Dan is harnessed up and clipped to the seatbelt, Kevin doesn’t feel as nervous that Dan is immediately going to try and maul him while he’s driving. He double-checks that he’s not leaving any physical evidence of their stay or the scuffle they had before getting into the driver’s seat. Kevin backs out of the woods and makes a mental note not to come back here for a few months. He grips the wheel and takes a shuddering breath as the gravity of the situation sinks in. He killed a human with his own fangs. He can still taste their blood in his mouth. He hasn’t had to kill a werewolf hunter in a long time. Before he can distract himself too much, Kevin lets himself sob once before refocusing in the road. He feels tears streaming over his cheeks but he can’t bring himself to wipe them away. Shifting and snuffling in the backseat brings Kevin’s eyes to the rearview mirror. Dan is leaning as far forward as the seatbelt will allow him with his long nose twitching in Kevin’s direction. His glowing eyes are wide and curious.
“Aw, are ye worried about me Dan?” Kevin chuckles, though his voice is a bit strained. Dan tilts his head and whines softly. Kevin sniffles a bit before looking back at the road. “We’ll be at my place soon. I just have to drive around a bit more in case we’re being followed,” Kevin assures Dan. He hears Dan huff at him before settling back down. It takes a little longer than Kevin would have liked but he makes it back to his house without incident. He heaves himself out of the car and shuffles over to the back seat door to let Dan out. Dan growls at him while he unbuckles his seatbelt but he doesn’t rush out of the car like Kevin though he would. Rather, he patiently allows Kevin to lead him to the house. Kevin fumbles with his keys but he gets them inside. He locks the door and the deadbolt before stumbling to his bedroom. He unclips the silver chain from Dan’s collar and throws it into the corner of his room, discarding his leather gloves promptly afterward.
Now that they’re not in mortal danger, Kevin can truly take in Dan’s wolf form. Somehow, his fur on the top of his head resembles his bangs. Dan is fairly tall for a wolf too, his head reaching just below Kevin’s chest. But if Dan stood up on his hind legs, he would certainly be taller than Kevin. Dan stares back at Kevin during this scrutiny, his pupils still pale like the moon. Kevin ruffles Dan’s fur before flopping onto his bed. He nearly jumps out of his skin when he feels the bed dip and Dan’s long, muzzled nose is right in his face.
“Oh feck, you scared me Dan!” Kevin laughs as he pets Dan’s face. He grabs Dan’s long nose and gives it a gentle shake. Dan snarls lightly so Kevin lets his nose go and sighs. Dan, with the muzzle on, manages to bite a bit of Kevin’s sweater and shake it vigorously until it slips from his teeth. He then sniffs all over Kevin, his nose poking Kevin while he smells him. When Dan pokes Kevin’s injured arm, he curls his nose away from it and bares his teeth. “Ah, now there’s no need for that. You’re the one that did that to me,” Kevin chides. He sits up, making his back crack in the process, and pulls the sweater off over his head with a groan. His fecking shoulder. Kevin inspects his bandaged wound and unwraps it. It healed over pretty well, the punctures in his skin have already closed up leaving pink indentations. Dan sniffs it, his wet nose cool against Kevin’s skin. “See? Good as new!” Kevin assures. Dan eyes him dubiously but he settles down on Kevin’s bed, nosing the pillows innocently. “Alright, the sun’s gonna come up soon so let’s get some sleep before then,” Kevin says as he lays back down, feeling himself slip into unconsciousness.
Kevin’s not sure what time it is when he wakes up but the sound of bones cracking and whimpering tells him it’s dawn. He turns his head and sees Dan’s lupine face scrunched in agony as he paces around on the bed panting anxiously. Eventually, he can’t stand anymore and collapses onto the bed and into himself like a dying spider. Kevin reaches out and pets Dan’s head, knowing he can’t do much else to comfort the bitten werewolf as he shifts back. The fur slowly recedes until it’s just a fluffy mess on the top of Dan’s head. His front paws elongate and his claws recede to his human fingers. The long snout confined to the muzzle shrinks away until the muzzle is holding nothing but empty space. A formerly trembling tail disappears back into Dan’s spine. Kevin drapes the blanket they’re on top of over Dan as he finishes shifting back to a human, unsure if he’ll still have his clothes on. Dan’s hands find the blanket and he clenches them tightly as he catches his breath from the transformation. Kevin waits patiently for Dan to recover mentally. It doesn’t take long, maybe Dan heard Kevin moving around because he opens his eyes and they immediately go to the muzzle loosely wrapped around his head.
“What in the hell am I wearing?” Dan croaks. Kevin chuckles but he makes no move to pull it off Dan. Dan doesn’t seem to have the energy to remove it either.
“A muzzle. Doesn’t quite fit you this way,” Kevin replies. “Because of that, you didn't bite anyone.” Dan sits up and sighs with relief until he sees Kevin’s bare arms.
“Then what’s that?” he asks, pointing to the pink scarring on Kevin’s arm. Kevin lifts up the previously injured arm just enough to see how well it’s healed.
“Oh, yeah, I’m not anyone,” Kevin says nonchalantly. Dan scoffs and holds Kevin’s arm gingerly.
“I bit you,” Dan states, his voice shaking slightly.
“It’s okay, Dan. Don’t beat yourself up about it. Remember, I’m a werewolf too,” Kevin says softly. “I knew what I was getting into last night.” Dan runs his fingers over the indentations from the bite marks.
“Did it hurt when I bit you?” Dan asks.
“Nah, I’ve been bit worse before,” Kevin replies, half telling the truth. Dan buys the half lie and sets Kevin’s arm back down.
“What happened last night?” Dan whispers, eyes already glassy. He holds the blanket tighter around himself. Kevin tries to sit up but can barely get his shoulders off the bed before his aches and pains force him back down. He exhales in frustration before trying again. This time, Dan helps him upright, which he thanks him for.
“Well, you certainly wore me out. Getting that muzzle on you wasn’t easy,” Kevin says lightheartedly. “But chaining you to a tree was. By the way, you still have the collar and harness on too.” Dan raises his hands to his neck where he finds the collar, much too big on him. He unclips everything and holds them delicately in his hands. Dan looks up at Kevin to continue speaking, hands starting to tremble.
“But there’s more that happened. I remember hearing gunshots,” Dan whimpers. Kevin nods.
“A werewolf hunter tried to kill you last night,” Kevin states. “They failed, obviously.” Dan starts frantically checking himself and the bed for any bloody trails or grazes or anything and upon finding nothing, he looks at Kevin expectantly. Kevin takes a shuddering breath before saying, “I killed them, Dan. To protect you I went for their throat because I thought I’d fail you twice.” Kevin then covers his face with a hand to hide his tears. Dan doesn’t need to see him break down right now. Thin fingers wrap around his hand and slowly lower it from his face. Dan’s brows are furrowed but his eyes are clear and determined.
“I’m sorry you had to make that decision but I am grateful you did,” Dan says gently, still holding Kevin’s hand in his. “I don’t hold that against you. You haven’t failed me.” Dan doesn’t expect Kevin to lean forward heavily and practically slump against Dan’s body much less in wolf form. The shift is instantaneous and catches Dan off guard from Kevin’s weight. Kevin’s forehead rests underneath Dan’s chin while the rest of his body is nearly flush with Dan. Dan doesn’t quite understand this behavior but he runs his hands over Kevin’s back soothingly. He doesn't comment on how Kevin is shaking in his arms but he does rest his cheek on the top of Kevin’s head. Even though he’s meant to be comforting Kevin, Dan finds himself calming down while petting Kevin.
“Thank you for protecting me, Kevin,” Dan says into Kevin’s fur. Kevin grunts before pulling back and shifting back to his human form. He looks into Dan’s eyes with an expression Dan can’t quite place but Dan feels at ease.
“Of course, Dan,” Kevin replies.
“You want to what?” Dan asked again. I shrugged, averting my gaze and playing with my napkin. “(Y/N), I don’t know…”
“just once Dan. Please.” I pleaded, eyes snapping up to his. “Just let me dom you once. Please.” Dan sighed before nodding.
“alright. But we go over everything so there’s no slip ups.” I nodded as he ran a hand over his face. “Ok first off we keep our safe word.” I nodded.
“can…can I still safeword? If I need it?” Dans eyes widened and he nodded slowly.
“if you need to.” Dan agreed. “And we can decide if we switch roles or if we stop altogether.” Dan paused as he thought over what he needed to go over. “What do you want to do to me?”
“can I…can I tie you up?” I asked nervously. Dan smiled at me.
“sure. But something I can get out of if I need to.” He said, his tone slightly hard. “I mean not that I’m going to just get out of it for the fun of it. Just in case you safeword or it gets too overwhelming.” I nodded. “Anything else you want to do?” Dan folding his hands together and rested his chin on top of them. I swallowed thickly.
“order you around?” Dan smiled at me.
“you asking me or you telling me?” I blushed as the smirk he gave me.
“telling you. I want to order you around.” Dan nodded before hitting his palms on the table.
“alright. Let’s do this.” He said, leaning back in the chair.
“bedroom.” I said, my voice trembling as I finally got to do something that was on my mind for a while. “Now.” Dan scrunched up his nose.
“firmer.” He whispered.
“bedroom. Now.” I tried again and Dan nodded. Standing up, he started towards the bedroom. Glancing over his shoulder at me, he blushed slightly. “Strip.” I bit my lip to stop from saying please. Dan turned to face me as he pulled his sweater over his head. Hands dropping to his jeans, he undid them and had kicked them away. “On the bed.” I couldn’t tear my eyes away from his chest, both out of arousal and nerves. Dan sat on the edge of the bed and slid back until his head hit the pillows. His hands went up above his head and his eyes flickered to the side where his suit was already laid out, tie on the hanger draped over his pants.
“you can use that one.” Dan whispered. I nodded before going to get it. I looped the tie through the headboard and loosely tied the ends around his wrists. Dan tugged and one came off. He nodded at me as I tied it back up. Glancing down at Dan, I leaned down and kissed him.
“love you.” I whispered. He smiled at me as I walked to the end of the bed again. I slowly stripped, watching as Dan grew hard and smiling to myself.
“oh damn.” Dan breathed out as he looked me over. His hands flexed above his head and I bit my lip at the look he was giving me. Climbing on the bed, I jerked him off a little before lining up and sinking down on him. We both let out loud moans as he slid home. “Oh fuck. (Y/N).” Dan groaned.
“Dan.” I breathed out, pressing my hands firmly to his chest. I squeezed and moaned as I started to move. “Don’t move. If you move, I might not let you cum.” Dans stomach tensed as he struggled to keep his hips still. I slowly bounced on his dick as Dans hands flexed above his head. He watched me through hooded eyes as I moaned above him.
“(Y/N).” Dan whined as I could feel him start to twitch. “Please.” I shook my head as I sped up.
“not yet.” I panted. “Not yet.” I flexed my fingers against his chest and threw my head back. Moaning as I orgasmed, Dan growled with the effort of holding back. “Now Dan. Now.” Dan roared as he orgasmed, his hips pounding up into me as he did. I slumped over on top of him as I started to come down from my high. “Wow.” I breathed out as I sat back up. I smiled at Dan before letting him slip out as I got up. I quickly untied Dan and followed his usual routine of rubbing his wrists and helping bring his arms down, knowing his muscles would be aching pleasantly.
“have fun?” Dan asked, a smile on his face as he watched me venture to the bathroom to grab a washcloth. He took it from me and started to finish up our usual aftercare. I nodded as I curled up against him, watching his toss the washcloth into the laundry basket.
“yeah. Different. But a kind of good different.” Dan smiled at me wrote kissing my forehead.
“good.” He whispered as I started to drift off. “Maybe next time we can try something a little more intense.” I nodded sleepily against his chest.
TAoT: Chapter 23: Ultimate Enemy: Part 3
Dan POV:
As the portal closed, Dan took in his appearance. Black hair, pale skin, baggy clothes, scuffed sneakers. Everything was exactly as he remembered.
But not how his younger self appeared now.
Dan glared down at his bare right arm. He knew that apprentice marks could not be mimicked, having learned so back when he tried to impersonate Artemis’ apprentice. Still, Dan had hoped that since he and his younger self were the same person, he would be able to mimic his apprentice mark.
But that was not the case.
He bit back a growl as he changed his appearance yet again, adding an elastic bandage wrapped tightly around his forearm. It would have to do for now. He would figure something out later.
“What do you plan to do now?” Gaea asked from behind him, her voice soft like moss on a stone.
Dan scowled. “What I plan on doing is none of your business.”
Gaea tutted disapprovingly. “Now, now. There is no need to get cross with me, :little death:.”
Dan whirled on the protogenos, his lip curling with rage as he hissed at her. “Do not call me—”
He froze.
Gaea stood before him. Really, it was only a projection of her. She wasn’t fully awake—not yet. But… she hadn’t taken on her usual glamour. Instead of dark soil churning and shifting to form her robes, little shards of shattered glass from the broken windows rippled over her, crystallizing into a long, pale blue chiton and shawl. Coal black hair tumbled over her shoulders, and silvery-white leaves sprouted in a semicircle around the back of her head. Her gaze was half-lidded as she watched him, and Dan was grateful that her eyes were still inhumanly green, rather than icy blue.
The impersonation wasn’t perfect, but it still looked achingly similar to…
“I told you to never take that form again,” Dan growled as he turned away.
“Oh, am I bringing up old memories?” Gaea’s tone indicated that she was teasing him, but Dan was not in the mood. “Perhaps you would be more comfortable with a more recent one?”
Dan heard the sound of shifting dirt, but he didn’t turn around. He didn’t need to turn around to know what she looked like now. White hair, white dress, a flower crown adorning her head…
Dan shook his head, clearing his thoughts. He couldn’t afford to think about the past right now. Not after…
“What are you going to do?” Gaea asked again.
Dan’s eyes flared red. “I’m going to ensure my future.”
He held up one of the medallions that had been left behind by his old friends, and a blue energy surrounded Dan as he was pulled from his present and transported back to his past.
.
.
Dan appeared in the alleyway next to the Nasty Burger, ten years in his past. He carelessly tossed the medallion to the side as he inspected the building. The roof had been partially blown off and the wall facing Dan was almost completely destroyed. He was surprised to see the restaurant in such a state. It… hadn’t been like this back when…
.
The news had called it a freak accident. There had been a malfunction in the heating element of the sauce vats, which had caused the containers to heat far past the safe temperature zone and essentially become ticking time bombs. That anyone had been around when the restaurant had exploded had merely been an unfortunate turn of events. A tragedy.
His friends, Sam and Tucker, had been there to support him. To defend him and his actions—his absences, his poor grades, etc.—from the judgment of his parents and teacher. Jazz, the nosy, meddling sibling that she was, had surprisingly been on Dan’s side. She had protested as well, claiming that Dan was “stressed” and didn’t “know the consequences” of what he was doing.
Dan had rolled his eyes at that. How bad could the consequences be? More detention? He never went anyway. More homework? He never did it anyway.
If he had known that the consequences would be the deaths of his loved ones… Well, he might’ve done something different then.
There had been no time for Dan to react. There had been no warning. The second the building had exploded, Dan had instinctively gone intangible, and before he could even fully react—could even think—they were gone.
Dead.
He hadn’t even gotten a chance to say goodbye.
.
Had that explosion already occurred?
No, that couldn’t be the case. Samantha and Tucker had been with his past self just a few hours earlier. They weren’t dead. Yet. Dan’s plan would soon change that.
But then… what had caused this destruction?
Dan peeked through the gaping hole in the brick wall of the building. The dining area looked to be beyond repair, and what he could see of the back of the restaurant indicated that the kitchen was also in shambles.
The sauce vats stood untouched against the back wall. Dan noticed that the red-hot heating element from an overturned grill was leaning dangerously close to one of the said vats, and he could see from where he stood that the sauce temperature gauge was slowly but surely creeping upwards.
So… that meant this would play out more or less the same, right? Sure, the building was a bit more banged up than before, but the explosion of the two containers had been the catalyst that shaped Dan into who he was now.
He remembered the accident as clear as day. The following days, weeks, where he had wandered alone… and when his human half had finally rejected him as well, something inside of Dan had snapped. He had felt… numb, at first. But other emotions had quickly taken its place. He had felt sad. He had felt angry.
He had felt betrayed.
And he had been quick to take his revenge. And then…
.
Dan remembered when he had first met the earth goddess. After the betrayal of his human half… he had felt lost. He hadn’t really had a plan after getting his revenge on his human half—former human half, now. And as soon as his mortal side had died, memories had flooded his mind. Memories of long, long ago—a different time. A different life.
Dan hadn’t known what to do with the newfound information—with his restored memories, he had just felt more lost than ever. Honestly, his best idea had been to go back to the Ghost Zone. Go far, far away, where no one would bother him. Where he could think and mope and sulk in peace.
But then…
She had appeared.
Gaea didn’t say anything—she only held her arms out to him, a pitying smile on her restful face. That had been the first time she had mimicked his mother’s form (he wouldn’t see her usual, black-robed form until later.)
An intense feeling of sorrow—of regret—flooded Dan’s core. Before he realized what he was doing, Dan wrapped his arms around Gaea and began to cry. He cried, and cried, and cried. He wept tears of fear and sorrow; of anger and betrayal. The goddess wrapped her arms around him in return, quietly humming a soft tune as she held him.
Logically, Dan knew that this woman was not his mother, but… he was so desperate for something familiar—something comforting—that he did not care.
When Dan’s tears finally came to an end, the goddess spoke softly to him.
“You have lost much, little one.” Her voice was like leaves rustling in the breeze. “You have faced far too much sorrow in your lives.”
Dan stilled as a few straggling tears dripped down his cheeks. How… how did she know about that? How did she know about—
“I can help you,” Gaea promised. “All the pain you’ve felt… I can help it all go away.” She pulled away from the hug then, using her hand to guide Dan’s gaze up to her face. Her eyes were closed, but he could see the faintest bit of green light shining from under her eyelids as she smiled almost sweetly. “I just need you to do a few things for me in return…”
.
“Danny!”
Dan dazedly turned towards the mouth of the alley. He barely had time to register Samantha and Tucker calling out to him before Samantha enveloped him in her arms.
“You made it back!” Samantha gushed as she squeezed him tightly.
“Geez, Sam, let the guy breathe,” Tucker teased. Dan could practically hear the teen’s eye roll, even if he couldn’t see it.
Samantha quickly pulled away, a faint blush dusting her cheeks, and cleared her throat. Tucker laughed and muttered something under his breath that earned him a punch in the arm from Samantha. Dan watched their interaction with mild amusement; he… sometimes missed these moments.
Only when he was at his weakest, of course.
“So, did you beat that evil, jerky, pus-pack alternative version of yourself?” Tucker punched the air enthusiastically.
Pus-pack? Why you… Dan barely held back a growl. Taking a deep breath to calm himself, he smirked at the two humans. He had a part to play, after all.
“Oh, I defeated my other self quite easily,” Dan declared smugly. “And that was quick thinking on your parts, removing those medallions when you did.”
“That was all Sam, dude,” Tucker announced, looping an arm around the goth’s shoulders. “She’s a quick thinker.”
“I already told you, Tuck.” Samantha shrugged off Tucker’s arm. “Steampunk’s not really my thing.”
“Well, anyways,” Tucker jerked a thumb over his shoulder, pointing back at the wrecked restaurant. “We should try and do what we can to stop the Nasty Burger from blowing up.”
“I’ve already taken care of it,” Dan replied smoothly, the lie rolling easily off of his tongue.
Tucker raised an eyebrow, as if he didn’t quite believe Dan, but before the teen could say anything Samantha cut him off with an impressed whistle.
“Way to go, Danny. Look at you, actually thinking ahead for once!” She gave him a playful shove. “I guess Tha… I mean, your mentor is actually teaching you some useful stuff, huh?”
Dan’s eyes flashed red with rage at the mention of… Thanatos. His father.
His “friends” were really trying his patience, weren’t they? But he couldn’t afford to lose his patience with them just yet; he needed them later on.
“Why don’t we go back to my place and hang out?” Samantha suggested with a gesture towards the front of the alleyway.
Before Dan could say anything—could even make an forced attempt at appearing eager—Tucker whooped.
“Heck yeah!” He slung his arm around Dan’s shoulder and practically dragged him out of the alleyway. “I’m always down to play video games! How ‘bout you, Danny?”
“Uhh… yes,” Dan agreed as enthusiastically as he could (which wasn’t very much at all. He had other things to be doing than wasting his time with these two.) “I’m down to… ‘hang out’.”
Samantha scoffed. “Geez, you sound like Mr. Lancer. But enough chit-chat.” Her attitude became serious as she glanced over at him. “What was that… weird transformation you did back there? In the future?”
Dan faltered. He had almost forgotten about that; he had pushed it to the back of his mind as he focused on not appearing suspicious. Samantha and Tucker hadn’t seen that transformation before? Why hadn’t his younger self shown it to them? Where had it even come from? Dan didn’t have that form—not anymore, and he hadn’t seen those laurels since…
Well, Dan would just have to ask his past self about that later, after his work here was done. It wasn’t like he was going anywhere anytime soon.
“Oh, that? That was just… something new I’ve been practicing in my… free time.” That lie didn’t come out quite as smoothly as the last.
“You mean, like… your training sessions?” Tucker questioned. “You don’t really have free time nowadays, especially since Than—”
Samantha elbowed Tucker hard in the side, eliciting a cry of pain from the bespectacled teenager. Dan bit back a groan as he rolled his eyes. This version of his past was growing more insufferable with every passing moment. Thanatos this and Thanatos that…
He couldn’t wait to raze it all to the ground.
“Let’s not talk about that right now, Tuck, okay?” Samantha gave Tucker an almost threatening smile, before glancing back at Dan. “Let’s just focus on having a good time.”
“Yeah, totally.” Dan stretched out his arms and laced his fingers behind his head, giving a lazy shrug as he sauntered down the sidewalk alongside Samantha and Tucker. “This is our chance to hang out before the test tomorrow. Let’s not worry about school or training or anything else right now. Besides, who’s gonna win at, uhh… Doomed?” That was a game they used to play together, right?
Satisfaction filled Dan’s core as his old friends cheered in agreement. They didn’t suspect anything. As long as he played along until everything was in place, it would all go according to plan.
And he would have his way soon enough.
.
Clockwork POV:
Clockwork didn’t bother to look up as the Observants returned once more. He twisted the crown of his staff, hoping in vain that the Observants would see that he was busy and let him work in peace.
Of course, he already knew that wasn’t going to be the case.
“Have you completed the task?” The first Observant’s voice was crass and demanding.
“Everything’s fine,” Clockwork replied crossly, careful to not answer their question. He pressed a button on the console in front of him, revealing a time point in Amity Park—specifically, this Daniel’s timeline (it got a bit confusing trying to distinguish one Daniel from another, at least when trying to explain it to another person. Clockwork certainly wasn’t confused.)
The small group of ghosts watched the large monitor as Daniel—a Daniel, anyway—was joined by two of his human friends.
“See? Here’s your king, back in his own time.” Clockwork didn’t bother hiding his smirk as the two Observants bristled at the reminder that Daniel was technically the ruler of the Ghost Zone, despite not having been officially crowned yet. “Safe, sound, and clearly not evil. Now,” Clockwork turned towards the Observants, the annoyance on his face clear as day. “Care to observe the door?”
The Observants glared at the time ghost, anger and frustration practically radiating off of them in palpable waves. Clockwork just glared coolly right back at them; they got the message and left without another word.
Once they were gone, Clockwork pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. Those bullheaded Observants really tested his patience. And that was quite the accomplishment, considering who Clockwork was.
Or rather, who Clockwork was a part of.
He sighed as he shed his spirit form for his true one; he really had been busy before the Observants appeared. He knew that Daniel’s current timeline was already different from his old future. It was highly unlikely that he would join Gaea’s forces, especially once he learned about her role in his family’s death in the old timeline. However, Clockwork also knew that highly unlikely did not mean impossible, and a certain protogenos was going to try and make sure that old future still happened.
And that was something that Clockwork could not allow. After all, much greater things were in store for Daniel within his future.
Clockwork sighed yet again. As much as he didn’t want to go, there was only one place he could possibly hope to find the one he was looking for.
.
.
With a blink of his eyes, Clockwork was back within the mists of Chaos. He hadn’t been here in quite a long time. How many millennia, now? It didn’t matter. He didn’t plan to stay for very long.
Hints of his elder form found him in the infinite darkness, and welcomed him home. He could feel himself growing stronger as he delved deeper into the mists, searching for…
There.
She was more awake in this place. Not fully, but enough that Clockwork would be able to speak with her.
An earthly aura—one of must and petrichor—surrounded Clockwork as he neared its center. He could practically smell verdant forests and fertile soil all around him, although he knew that was not the case. Nothing could exist within Chaos.
Nothing except for those that had first sprouted from Its mists, and those that had already been around when It first came into existence.
“Chronos?” A tired voice rose from the depths. “What brings you here?”
“I am here to speak with you, Gaea,” Clockwork answered. “And to warn you against the current path that you are taking.”
The aura around him grew stronger, and Clockwork could tell that the earth goddess was offended. “What I do is none of your business.”
“When others plan on messing with the flow of time, it is most certainly my business,” Clockwork countered. “And that is exactly what you are trying to do.”
Gaea scoffed. “And how would you know if I was trying anything? You have been divided for so long that I am surprised you are even aware of anything around you.”
“I am aware of more than you realize, Gaea,” Clockwork responded coolly. “Otherwise, I would not be here, now would I?”
Gaea’s aura shifted like the rolling tides but otherwise she did nothing.
Clockwork rolled his eyes at the much younger—in comparison to him, at least—protogenos’ antics. “Remember that I am much older than you, Gaea. There is little that other beings can hide from me.”
“Say your piece, and be done with it,” Gaea ground out. “Unlike you, I have plans I wish to accomplish within this century.”
“You cannot persuade him to join your side,” Clockwork said—he knew that Gaea already knew who he was referring to. “He will not believe any lie you may tell him.”
“And why is that?” Gaea asked tiredly; she was growing tired of his persistence.
“Because he will learn,” Clockwork answered simply. “Before you set your plans in action, he will learn what you plan to do. He has already seen what you have done to him in ten years’ time. He will soon know the truth of what happened to his loved ones. Of what you did to them.”
“And how would he know such a thing? I have yet to do anything to him or his loved ones. Unless,” Gaea’s tone turned accusatory. “You have said something to him, Chronos.”
“I have said nothing to him about the matter,” Clockwork assured her. “And I will not unless he asks me. However, as of now he is in an alternate future where he has met a version of himself that formed under your influence.”
Gaea’s aura stilled like the surface of a pond—she was taken aback. “He’s where?”
“Exactly where I said,” Clockwork answered as more parts of his elder form swirled around him, clinging to him like a second skin. “He is currently in a timeline where you successfully turned him to your side after killing his mortal family and friends.”
The darkness around Clockwork suddenly seemed to burst with life. He could hear plants rustling with glee, and he could envisions mountains in all their majesty, standing tall and prideful amongst their surroundings.
“So I will succeed, then.” Gaea preened, sounding rather pleased with herself. “I will soon return to my rightful home.”
“Not quite,” Clockwork interjected.
Gaea’s presence immediately grew still, like a forest with a dangerous predator on the prowl. “What do you mean?” She asked carefully, her tone and aura warning Clockwork to choose his next words wisely.
“You know that this is not the way you will be awoken,” Clockwork reminded her. “The Prophecy of Seven already tells of—”
“And what does it matter if I arise a little sooner than planned?” Gaea countered, exasperation radiating from her like ocean waves in a storm. “Have I not waited long enough? If Death’s child is able to give me the freedom that I seek now, then why shouldn’t I seize that opportunity? You told me it has already worked—”
“In a timeline that will soon no longer exist.” Clockwork cut her off. “I should know, as I will make sure of it. And I will continue to frustrate your efforts for as long as you persist down a path that is not meant to be yours.”
He could feel Gaea’s anger bristling like thorns. She was clearly irritated by his interference in her plans. But Clockwork didn’t care. He didn’t need Gaea to understand the repercussions her plan would have on time itself, but he did need for her to leave it alone. Time wasn’t hers to mess with.
Clockwork shifted as yet more of his elder form merged with him. Visions of what has been, what was happening, and what could be appeared more easily before him, almost dizzying in their multitude. He blinked them away as Gaea spoke.
“Why do you insist upon trying to dissuade me from my plan?” Gaea growled. “Nothing you say or do will change my mind.”
“You know who Death’s child will become,” Clockwork continued, unfazed. “If you were to interfere with that, you would doom everyone, including yourself, to destruction. And I swear on Chaos Itself that I will not allow you to do that.”
Gaea remained quiet, but Clockwork could tell that her resolve was wavering as she took his words into consideration. After all, a threat made by Chronos himself was not one to be taken lightly.
“Besides, what difference is a few more years in the span of eternity?” Clockwork reasoned. “Why, I dare say that’s not long at all.”
.
Danny POV:
Danny’s head pounded as he struggled against the ropes. He grit his teeth as the ectoplasmic cords cut through his sleeves and dug into his skin, ignoring the wet feeling of blood spreading down his arms. Thoughts buzzed around his head like a hive of angry hornets.
Alone again. Must protect. Demigod? Mom! Dad! Must help! Jazz! Can’t be alone. Can’t be a demigod. Sam! Tucker! Only mortal parents… Legacy? Must stop him! Must… stop me—
Danny gasped for air as hot tears rolled down his cheeks and unbidden images filled his mind, overpowering his rampant thoughts. Visions of what Dan would do to everyone Danny cared about if Danny wasn’t able to stop him…
Nothing recognizable was left. Nothing even remotely human—only charred bits of singed flesh and blackened bone, falling to the earth like pieces of hail. His family and friends were gone, as if they’d never even existed—no, no, that wasn’t right.
He could see his parents. His father, bare-chested and chained. Lash marks covered his entire upper body. There was so much blood, and from how the light reflected off of it he couldn’t tell whether it was red or gold. His mother’s charred remains lay on the earth before him, and he couldn’t remember if her hair had been red or black—
Danny cried out in pain. It felt like his head was going to split open. What was happening to him? What—
“Well, well, well.” A gravelly voice growled, sending a chill down Danny’s spine. “After all you’ve done, you decided to show your face here again?”
Danny whipped his head around searching for the source of the voice, and froze when he saw who was surrounding him.
He recognized Skulktech almost immediately, along with the Box Ghost, Ember, Johnny, and Kitty. But they all looked quite a bit different from how Danny remembered them. They looked haggard, run down… angry.
At him.
Danny stared at them in shock. “What happened to you guys?” He could guess the answer—knew the answer, deep in his core—but… he didn’t want to say it out loud.
“Isn’t it obvious?” Ember rasped, affirming exactly what he had feared. “You did.”
“You and the Earth Mother, Gaea,” Skulktech sneered.
Danny didn’t even have time to wonder what Skulktech was referring to as the others voiced their agreement. As they closed in on him, Danny quickly realized that they most definitely did not have good intentions.
“Guys, wait!” Danny squirmed as he tried to free himself from his bonds. “That wasn’t me! I-I don’t know what all happened to you, but I promise that it wasn’t—”
“Oh, puh-lease.” Johnny rolled his eyes. “Spare us the excuses. We’ve been waiting a long time for a chance to pay you back for all you’ve done to us.”
As his enemies’ powers flared, Danny wondered how he was going to make it out of this in one piece. He twisted and turned, trying to free his arms in an attempt to at least defend himself as his enemies prepared to attack. But the ropes held fast, holding him captive and defenseless as the ghosts’ combined fury began to rain down upon him.
Box Ghost threw little pink cubes of ectoplasm that exploded on impact, burning Danny’s skin like acid. Danny hardly had time to react before Skulktech struck next, firing an ecto-blast that hit Danny square in the chest and sent him reeling backwards into Ember.
Ember sneered as she strummed her beaten up guitar, unleashing a wave of purple ecto-energy that whammed into Danny and sent him flying backwards once again. Kitty simply flew forward as Danny floundered and struck him across the face with her purse, sending him sprawling.
Danny was struck by blow after blow of burning, blistering ecto-energy, completely unable to fight back or block any of it. “Stop!” He begged, pained tears rolling down his cheeks. “Th-that wasn’t—”
Johnny didn’t even give Danny a chance to speak, a vengeful smirk on his lips as he snapped his fingers. His Shadow leapt forward and swung at Danny, its clawed fist connecting with Danny’s cheek and sending the halfa flying backwards.
A throbbing pain rang through Danny’s head, which spun wildly as he struggled to focus on the unforgiving spirits in front of him. His core pounded frantically in his chest as they closed in on him once again, eager to continue their onslaught.
“Stop!” Danny shouted desperately. The thrum of his core grew so loud that he could barely hear his own voice as cold energy welled up deep within him. “Leave me alone!”
The ghosts ignored his pleas, and the energy in Danny’s core grew so cold that it burned as it built within his chest. It pushed uncomfortably against his lungs, as if trying to force its way out of him.
Box Ghost raised his hand, a dangerous pink ectoplasmic energy flaring to life in his palm as he prepared to strike Danny once again.
“I said leave… me… ALONE!!!” The cold suddenly burst from Danny’s chest, tearing itself out of his throat in an ungodly scream.
The sound coming from him was deafening, growing louder and louder as waves of green ecto-energy burst from Danny’s mouth. The force threw Danny’s enemies back, tearing at their forms like ocean waves crashing against a sand castle. Danny’s scream was unrelenting as it forced its way out of his lungs and past his lips, intent on destroying everything in its path. The cords that bound him were shredded by the sheer ecto-energy radiating from his core.
But then the energy in Danny’s chest fizzled out just as quickly as it had formed, leaving Danny’s throat raw and burning as he clamped his hands over his mouth and looked on in horror. What had he done?
His enemies were scattered about, unconscious and floating listlessly in the green void, their forms flickering like TV static and almost completely destabilizing around the edges.
“No…” Danny whispered, his voice scratchy and hoarse. H-he hadn’t meant to hurt them. He hadn’t meant to… do that. That power… the same force that Dan had used t-to kill so many people—
I-I didn’t mean to…
:I’m sorry,: Danny whispered again before he flew away, leaving his gravely injured enemies to drift through the endlessly shifting Ghost Zone.
.
.
As Danny was trying to find his way through the Ghost Zone (he wasn’t really sure where he was trying to go, he was just trying to find a way out of there), a faint sobbing caught his attention. The sound was so mournful that Danny wondered if it was just another ghost, but as he flew a little farther he noticed a few leaves floating through the green void of the Ghost Zone.
Leaves and flower petals drifted lazily in a nonexistent breeze, and Danny was immediately on edge. Was… Dan’s ‘benefactor’ here? That Mother Earth person that Dan had been talking to earlier? The same one Skulktech had mentioned? Danny wasn’t sure, but… he didn’t think the plants were coming from her. After all, why would she be in the Ghost Zone?
And if it wasn’t her…
Then who was it?
Against his better judgment, Danny followed the trail of plant life. Scattered petals became whole blooms, floating as if they were underwater. They led Danny to a lone floating outcrop of stone. It was covered in thick plant life, and a woman knelt on a small patch of grass in the midst of it all. She was dressed in shimmering green robes and a thick black cloak. Her dark hair was braided with dried grass and red poppies, and she was facing away from Danny as she wept.
“Uhh, hello?” Danny called out, hesitantly drifting closer. “Are… you okay?”
He stopped a few feet from the floating island. Thick and thorny dark purple vines circled the perimeter of the island, and vibrant red roses sprouted from their midsts. A faint red smoke wafted from the flowers, and the scent of it instantly burned Danny’s nose and brought tears to his eyes.
“Leave me, oh mindless spirit,” the woman moaned mournfully. “Leave me to my sorrows…”
“Hey!” Danny shouted defensively. “I’m not mindless, I was just wondering if you needed help. Though, with all those scary-looking plants you’ve got there, I’m… guessing you don’t want any.”
“Help?” The woman scoffed, before standing and turning to face him. “How could a ghost help me? And who—”
Whatever she was about to say died on her lips as soon as she saw Danny. Her face—which looked strikingly familiar to Danny, though he didn’t know why—changed between several emotions within mere seconds. From sadness, to shock, to hatred.
“YOU!” The woman screamed. “You killed my daughter, and now you’ve come for me!”
Danny quickly backed away, raising his hands in surrender. “W-wait, you’ve got the wrong guy!” He protested. “I haven’t killed anybody—”
“Lies!” The woman wailed. “I know you! I know what you’ve done! I would know your presence anywhere after what you did!”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about!” Danny insisted. What did she mean, “what you’ve done?” He hadn’t done anything, so why did she believe that he had?
Well… Danny hadn’t done anything. But Dan definitely had.
“Oh, quit playing innocent!” The woman snapped, her eyes seeming to glow with rage. The plants around her began to writhe like angry snakes. “All the pantheons know you, and the devastation you’ve caused! You killed Heracles, Ares, Athena, Artemis, Apollo, Zagreus, Makaria, and my daughter!”
“I didn’t!” Danny shouted, growing frustrated with all the accusations. “That wasn’t me, I swear—”
“I WATCHED YOU KILL HER!!!” She screamed, harshly cutting Danny off. Her voice echoed through the void around them, cutting through the eerie silence. Danny’s ears were ringing as the woman continued to shout at him. “She told me to run, but I faltered! I looked back and w-watched as you…” Overcome with emotion, the woman fell to her knees with a heartbroken wail. “My dear Persephone…”
Persephone? Danny thought, recognition bringing the goddess’ face to his mind. That was why this woman looked so familiar, she was… “Demeter?”
“What?” She ground out. “Are you here to kill me, too?”
“No!” Danny snapped. “Stop it! I’m not—”
“Do it.”
Danny froze, his ectoplasm feeling like it had suddenly turned to ice in his veins. “… what?” He breathed in disbelief, his voice just above a whisper.
Demeter looked up at him, and Danny was taken aback by the anguish in her eyes. “Do it!” She begged. “Just kill me already!”
“I-I…” Danny backed away from the goddess. “I won’t—”
Demeter let out a loud, guttural shriek as the plant life around her erupted into a jungle of wriggling vines and flowers. The blood red roses tripled in size almost instantly, their stems turning into thick, thorned trunks that twisted and slithered towards Danny like octopus tentacles. Danny darted backwards, narrowly avoiding being snagged by the deadly-looking vines.
“KILL ME!” Demeter cried. “PLEASE! I can’t live without her…”
Danny couldn’t handle anymore of this. He turned tail and fled as fast as he could—faster than he had ever flown before—but it wasn’t quick enough to escape Demeter’s cries as she called after him, begging him to end her suffering.
Forced my boy to watch the watchmen movie with me (so he could get what I was yelling about on my private instagram story, I was mansplaining the whole time and we watched the directors cut), so here are my thoughts:
It was relatively faithful (not that that's a measure of how good something is), and overall criticisms I can think of have already been made (fight choreography, Zack kinda missing the point) and for a goofy little time its pretty enjoyable :3
((More in depth below))
I think that they messed up Dan's character, he was made too confident... (I love his extremely passive/gentle demeanor and speech patterns so much so much and they took that away from him... growls...) and also how his relationship with Laurie was handled
I really didn't like how they had Dan immediately come onto her in the dinner scene (like im looking at the book rn and I'm failing to see romantic subtext there, though I am like really bad at seeing that kinda stuff so it could be user error?) they just feel really underbaked in the movie, kinda gives me "oh they're boy and girl they kiss now" energy, where in the book they have a lot more time to develop (also like Dan also knew her since she was 16 iirc so having her take most of the initiative makes it feel way less predatory... and I wanna clarify I think Laurie and Dan are great for each other and he treats her so well after they're established)
Not to mention the pool scene! That scene was so fucking deep and tender etc. I CRODE and there was really nothing comparable in the movie (ALSO WHY DID THEY HAVE JON KISS HER OH MY GOD)
I also personally fucking HATED how the Roche scene was handled but I guess burning a dude alive was too much /opinionated because I can see how it kinda makes sense like killing him the same way he killed his dogs or whatever and its a relatively easy way to go...
But god in the comic where he's just standing and waiting is so powerful, also like really fucked up because the guy didn't even outright confess (which its like were certain its him but theres that <1% chance it was wrong guy wrong place wrong time to be thought about) also being burnt to death is accepted to be one of the most painful ways to die and to put salt in the wound giving him the saw even though both of them knew he wouldn't get out... it just makes him feel super Fucked Up And Evil which makes sense! That scene is one of the very rare cases in fiction where I get the same gut response as I get when hearing about real fucked up murders
those were my main issues tbh I really liked how they did Rorschach's mask also his waist being so snatched under the trench coat was driving me crazy... loved his casting esp because im also a short freak, there needs to be more of us
Good things about Dan though he still is sweet and gentle despite not being as much as I wished he was... like when he fixed Rorschach's collar and just little things like that... and despite my grievances with how his relationship was handled with Laurie it wasn't fucked up TOO bad...
Uhh lets see, casting JDM as Edward actual genius
Refuse to comment on blue peanits...
Anyways here's what the boyfriend had to say about it:
aftg crack sharkboy and lavagirl au, inspired by the “YOU RUINED MY DREAM JOURNAL.” reblog i had from @ thespineoftherighteous
Maybe it starts off like one of those joint fever dream things i mentioned in another post. Where the foxes have a sleepover. They drift off after catching Neil up on some old classic, disney channel movies.
As much as i lived for Neil trying to defend his “dream journal”, I think Kevin’s the star of this fever dream. He’s Max.
Planet drool no longer exists, only planet Exy.
Andrew’s shark boy. Neil’s lavagirl. I don’t feel I need to explain.
Coach is Mr. Electric. bc yes.
Aaron’s Linus/Minus. Still a hater, even in dream land.
Matt and Dan are Kevin’s parents/the giant cookie king and queen.
Allison’s the ice princess.
Nicky’s one of the talking sharks that helped raise sharkboy andrew.
I’msosorrybabe-Renee’s Tobor. But it’s okay bc she’ll give insightful wisdom to help move the story along
ANDREW SINGING THE DREAM SONGGG
in the most monotone voice ever
“Go to sleep.”
“Not like that Andrew. Sing him a lullaby.” Neil huffs, before clearing his throat.
“DrEaMm, dReaam, DreAmm.” He demonstrates, “..You’re turn.”
“..Close your eyes. Shut your mouth. Dream a dream and get us out.” Andrew starts dryly, “Dream, dream dream dream dream dream..”
“Hit the hay. Fast asleep. Dream a dream you little bleep. Dream dream dream dream dream dream.”
Kevin dreams a shark Maserati into existence beside them.
“It’s working!! Andrew keep it up!” encourages Neil.
*cue Andrew spin-kick flipping into a split. About to go off*
“Relax, lay about, or my fist will put you out. Dream dream dream dream dream dream.”
I’ll stop but can literally go on and on with this. (i mean Lavagirl goes on to ask Max to dream a more positive future for her. Bc she’s always been seen as destructive force. LIKE hello, similar energy to Neil giving Kevin his “game” i the books-)
I added a tikok of this iconic scene from the movie below lol.
The foxes wake up the next morning and everyone’s taking a moment to just reflect . After the initial shock passes, and it’s clear that, that just happened, everyone explodes at once.
Nicky, “I was a shark-“
Matt, very concerned “Neil, bro you gotta listen to me. You know that I’d”, He pauses and motions to Dan who frantically agrees. “We’d never actually eat you. Right bro??”
Neil nods with a small chuckle. ,“Yeah of course.” Then he runs a quick hand through his hair. Checking to make that it is in fact not a living flame.
“LINUS? Out of everyone?! I was LINUS??”, stresses an annoyed Aaron.
Andrew snorts. (He ran his tongue carefully across his teeth as soon as they’d all woken up, and was quietly relieved when they weren’t pointed.)
“I mean, the crystal weren’t a bad look..” Allison chimes in, placing a hand to her neck.
“That’s easy to say when you weren’t an disembodied floating tin head.” Renee jokes, “Glad I could offer some advice though Kevin,” she adds with a smile at him.
Kevin, who’d been silently staring at the sharkboy and lava girl DVD case for most of the discussion, raises his head “… I need a drink.”
“it’s literally 10 in the morning??” scolds Dan. Right before Abby cheerily turns the corner, a delicious smell following her in.
“Surprised to see you lot already up and at em.”, she greets warmly. The foxes mumer their hello’s
“Here’s the deal guys- I checked the fridge this morning and it was just about empty; Other than some old, leftover cookie dough. So i just tossed that in the oven and had David run down to the store for some eggs and such- Y’all don’t mind a few chocolate chips cookies and milk for breakfast, right?”
The team share a look and Aaron growls, “You’ve got to be jo-“
“No, Abby’s that’ll be a treat.” Dan cuts off politely. “Thank you.” Abby’s nods, satisfied and returns to the kitchen.
Descendants of Despair Part 79
A small knot of hope settled into my stomach. Hope. It was one of the most useless human emotions. Either your hope would be justified and the outcome would be good, or your hope would be dashed and the outcome would be so much worse than if you just thought of the worst case scenario to begin with. However, despite this knowledge, I allowed the hope to spread, easing some of the tension that had been building since leaving Jake's side.
"Well, let's approach this from the point of view that we know they know you are here..." Dan began. "We can assume that they also realise that you know this information. This limits our options fairly significantly. I think our best bet is to make it appear that you have disappeared. They obviously aren't interested in what I am doing, so I think I should be the one to do something...and I know just what to do." Dan left the sentence hanging in the air as Lilly and I waited with baited breath.
"Well, what are you going to do?" I finally prompted, a slight growl of annoyance in my voice which made Dan snicker.
"I am going to head to the Aurora and confront Phil, loudly, asking for your whereabouts!" Dan announced, looking extremely proud of himself. He had the right to be. I couldn't really find any fault in his plan. He was the only one that would be risking anything by going there and he may stumble upon some information that may help us get closer to the end game.
"Hm, okay but you take precautions." I agreed.
"Precautions?" Dan groaned. "You don't need to treat me like an infant."
"Oh, that isn't what I was thinking at all," I clarified. "I was thinking if you get taken you won't be able to relay the information to us, so we need to have you wired so we can hear it ourselves."
Dan nodded in agreement, accepting my terms without flinching. A good sign that he was aware of the potential danger that could lie ahead and was willing to meet them head on. Alternatively, his bravado could entirely be because he was stubbornly ignorant of the dangers that could lie ahead. It really didn't matter either way, though the former would be far easier to deal with than the latter.
"Uh, no offence or anything, but do you know how to...wire someone?" Lilly asked hesitantly. I knew what she was getting at. Out of the two of us, Jake was far more tech savvy, so Lilly wouldn't have noticed any of the small things that showed I knew a thing or two. That was helpful. Being underestimated always was. I decided to play this to my advantage. The future was bleak and I clung desperately to any small fragment of my former life.
Shrugging, I indicated my phone.
"Can't be too hard to figure out." I muttered as I typed absentmindedly into the encrypted search engine Jake had left on my phone. The rest of my mind I devoted to searching my memory of the things I had taken with me. To build a simple listening device, you need a crappy phone. The type with a microphone that picks up on everything. You then need to upgrade it with the battery power and circuits of another phone. Risking the connection severing due to battery shortage or a small bump was not worth it. The end device may be crackly but, it would be serviceable enough to get the information needed.
My fingers tightened around the phone in my hand. The phone with the best battery and circuits, upgraded to well above standard. The phone that held my precious connection to Jake. Shaking my head briefly, I eyed Dan and Lilly warily. "We need two cell phones. An old piece of crap phone and a newer model..." I began, hesitantly shielding my device from their keen eyes.
Sacrifice. It was something that Jake and I had done our whole lives. Lives marred with bare surroundings. Walls that dripped with icy drops and held together with mold. Fragments of blankets that barely stretched to make one good one. Every good thing we had, we had worked our asses off to get.
Dan grunted and levered himself from his seat. "If it's crap you need, I got it," he mumbled as he headed into his bedroom. He was playing his role well, but I could sense the tension that bubbled below the surface. It was how I felt every time I was up against the unknown. False bravado.
"Um, I can sacrifice my phone..." Lilly whispered, holding it out in a shaking and unwilling hand just as Dan appeared back in the room. "No, it's okay Lilly." He grunted as he chucked two phones on my knee. Saving both Lilly and I from making the sacrifice. I smiled up at him, genuinely.
"Thanks Dan," I whispered, as I went through the process of creating a listening device, forcing myself to remember to check the instructions on my phone. An act. Always an act. Playing a role. A part.
