lover from another nation ~ hcs .
characters !! all the genshin men i could think of rn...
note !! it's been a while since i've written hcs for a lot! aaaah just some thoughts i had today (i had a few culture shocks here and there when i met up with new friends hahahah)
~ m o n d s t a d t ~
grabbing zhongli by the hand to dance and sing in the middle of the square because mondstadters live for the festivities! he quickly learns to freestyle dance along with you, moving with the crowd and cheers and wine. (remember that Tangled scene? yes)
kaveh wasn't sure how to react the day you ordered hard liquor on your first date. sure, your freedom and love for a good drink is one of the things which made him fall for you but wow– are you really gonna down that many glasses on a date? what do you mean you're still sober?
ayato finds himself in love with the way you sing. it doesn't follow the rules of inazuman opera at all; it's much more freeing (much like how his house help sings as he does chores) and you'd tell him stories and the history of your homeland in the form of songs. no mondstadter could ever forget the songs they grew up listening to!
heizou being almost appalled by your rather... robust and reckless nature. you don't have any backup plans whenever a situation goes south, you simply hold his hand, smile, and say "we go where the wind blows!"
~ l i y u e ~
diluc having chopsticks as part of your dining utensils because sometimes, you're more comfortable eating with it (let's not forget often having rice on the table! he must learn the joys of garlic rice with his steak <3)
dainsleif stays by your side as you offer incense and fruits to your ancestors. he whispers quiet prayers, bows when you do, and helps you clean their altars. he finds solace in the familial piety of liyuens– it makes him wish he could honor his ancestors with the same kind of peace as you do.
kazuha getting tongue tied over the language being so similar to inazuman but also so different– why are some of the characters the same? why are the meanings different? there's a bit of miscommunication in the start, but you both find your own ways to understand each other when words fail.
we all know gorou has always wanted to climb the mountains of liyue and you made it possible! meeting him by the docks and touring him around your home nation, you made sure to pick hiking routes with the most scenic spots, even managing to tour him around the jade palace and the floating lone island.
~ i n a z u m a ~
kaeya has no idea how you sit on the floor while being comfortable. you've made him sit with you once while reading a book, after that, his bones ached for days! shaking every time he stood back up!
albedo met you in the irodori festival- he painted you for practice and spark between you started. the long distance was difficult at first, but his long letters always had a little drawing of you and you'd send back the scent of cherry blossoms. klee would also send you letters, asking you to come visit soon!
childe loves a new fighting style; like most sword users in inazuma, you followed the raiden shogun's teachings– swift, efficient, and at one with the sword. he loves how you fight and it's often how you end your dates!
cyno was almost confident that you were playing a prank the day you said you'll make him your specialty and you showed him a platter of raw seafood. it's "sashimi and ngiri" you say, and he waited for you to explain the pun of your joke. it wasn't a joke.
~ s u m e r u ~
thoma is quite used to mondstadters and inazumans, two very different cultures, then he meets you and your sumeru upbringing! you show him how to cook foods that can be eaten with hands, and your menu is often so colorful he can't help but admire it!
itto doesn't really understand the study culture of sumeru, but he totally supports whatever it is you're talking about and tries to add in comments (his comments don't exactly make sense though...)
scaramouche, in his "path of redemption and healing", unwillingly gets involved with you as you show him around the beautiful parts of sumeru! you argue that he needs a different, better outfit with a color scheme that matches his vision. he insists that the hat stays. you tell him he looks like an aranara.
~ s n e z h n a y a ~
al haitham was almost concerned the day you got a heatstroke after being in the desert for no more than a few minutes. snezhnaya has prepared you for harsh weather, but never the heat. soon enough your lover is carrying around heatstroke-first aid packs just for you.
bundling up tighnari's fluffy ears before setting foot in snezhnaya because you just know the cold would practically freeze them off. his tail also gets wrapped and bundled warm in the large coats you wear, protection from the harsh snow. he says he looks like a big lummox.
note !! alright, choose your favorite dynamic! i personally think mondstadters with liyue/inazuma would be interesting maybe because i want to force feed them the joys of rice...
// if i misinterpreted a culture then umm... just know it wasn't intentional and let's consider it a real thing in teyvats culture 🫣😎

What Are They Like On Social Media (Headcanons)?
feat. luffy, zoro, nami, sanji, usopp, robin, franky, and brook
requests open for other things like this!
Tumblr media
Luffy
nami made him make an Instagram account and he did so... BUT NOT WITHOUT DOWNLOADING 8 VIRUSES THE MOMENT HE GOT ONTO IT
he started clinking on every ad he saw, of course, and now he's got to pay 100000 dollars by the end of the month or else world government will find him.
he took that as a challenge.
basic, but his username is kingofthepirates or strawhat69 or something
maybe even a pun or some shit bro
follows anybody he even slightly likes and comments dumb shit on all of their posts.
ex; luffy commenting on a post robin made w chopper "can you ask him if reindeers are real?"
takes weird angled photos of his friends and posts them (ex. forehead shots)
Zoro
username is bestswordsmanofficial
usually posts training videos, but also sometimes puts on his story a cry for help to his friends cuz he got lost again
also not the most tech savy guy
i get vibes he would straight up record himself coughing to death and post it
he went viral once, actually.
was dragged by nami to be a backup dancer for one of her tiktoks
stiffly dancing
on snapchat, he uses weird filters like the broccoli one and just sent it to everyone he knew.
Nami
username is nami.venmo.me
probably makes scams in order to get money
she has two accounts; a scamming account and a real account (both under similar usernames actually)
on snapchat, she and usopp have a 200+ snapscore
they both contemplated jumping ship when they messed it up..
matching pfps with usopp too! ex.;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
nami is cookie monster, usopp is screaming man
Sanji
username is lovecook_sanji
other than posting the food he makes, he also posts aesthetic photos of him crying💀
ALSO posts photos of baths with rose petals that he only made cuz he wanted to be desperate in the caption like "such a beautiful place... i just wish that... someone could share it with me... :("
out here posting "i wish i was beautiful :(" posts for attention and zoro out here commenting back "i wish you were too💀"
blocked zoro after that
tags ONLY nami and robin in his posts whenever he posts the group
"the rest of them are just some guys 🙄"
Usopp
username is god..usopp
also is in charge of the strawhat official social media accounts
nami makes the aesthetically pleasing posts while usopp posts the funny hahas
like that time luffy slipped off ship with his mouth full of food (and bcuz he can't swim w his devil fruit) so he almost sank to the bottom
plugs his personal acc on the strawhat official acc too much
luffy used to be the manager of the account but that acc got banned...
so usopp was given the job to make a new one and manage it (no luffy you can't write the caption)
Robin
username is nico.robin
mostly posts about the books she's been reading, such as reviews
formats them nice and neatly
all her posts are very aesthetically pleasing
besides book reviews, she posts a lot of chopper
she's like a mom in that way making her kids pose for photos and takes photos as much as possible
overall very pretty account
Franky
username is franky_da_cyborg
when not posting inventions, he posts crewmates doing random things
doesn't have to be weird at all most of the posts are just straight up usopp making a sandwich or robin reading
all posts are very low quality tho lol
Brook
username is musician-brook
obv posts him playing music but also posts himself saying terrible dad jokes
"singing in the shower is fun until you get soap in your mouth. then it's a soap opera."
he got the phone confiscated for that one
apart of nami's backup dancers for her tiktoks
actually works it
go grandpa go!
Tumblr media

Minnie Julia Riperton Rudolph (November 8, 1947 – July 12, 1979) was an American singer-songwriter best known for her 1975 single "Lovin' You" and her four octave D3 to F♯7 coloratura soprano range. She is also widely known for her use of the whistle register and has been referred to by the media as the "Queen of the Whistle Register."
Minnie Riperton grew up in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side. As a child, she studied music, drama and dance at Chicago's Lincoln Center. The youngest of eight children in a musical family, she embraced the arts early. Although she began with ballet and modern dance, her parents recognized her vocal and musical abilities and encouraged her to pursue music and voice. At Chicago's Abraham Lincoln Center, she received operatic vocal training from Marion Jeffery. She practiced breathing and phrasing, with particular emphasis on diction. Jeffery also trained Riperton to use her full range. While studying under Jeffery, she sang operettas and show tunes, in preparation for a career in opera. Jeffery was so convinced of her pupil's abilities that she strongly pushed her to further study the classics at Chicago's Junior Lyric Opera.
The young Riperton was, however, becoming interested in soul, rhythm and blues, and rock. In her teen years, she sang lead vocals for the Chicago-based girl group the Gems. Eventually the group became a session group known as Studio Three and it was during this period that they provided the backing vocals on the classic 1965 Fontella Bass hit "Rescue Me".
After graduating from Hyde Park High School (now Hyde Park Academy High School), she enrolled at Loop College and became a member of Zeta Phi Beta sorority. She dropped out of college to pursue her music career.
Her early affiliation with the legendary Chicago-based Chess Records afforded her the opportunity to sing backup for various established artists such as Etta James, Fontella Bass, Ramsey Lewis, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters. While at Chess, Riperton also sang lead for the experimental rock/soul group Rotary Connection, from 1967 to 1971.
On April 5, 1975, Riperton reached the apex of her career with her No. 1 single "Lovin' You". The single was the last release from her 1974 gold album titled Perfect Angel. Riperton's third album, Adventures in Paradise was released in 1975. Despite the R&B hit "Inside My Love", some radio stations refused to play "Inside My Love" due to the lyrics.
Her fourth album for Epic Records, titled Stay in Love (1977), featured another collaboration with Stevie Wonder in the funky disco tune "Stick Together".
In 1978, Richard Rudolph and Riperton's attorney Mike Rosenfeld orchestrated a move to Capitol Records for Riperton and her CBS Records catalog. In April 1979, Riperton released her fifth and final album, Minnie. "Memory Lane" was a hit from the album.
Riperton provided backing vocals on Stevie Wonder's songs "Creepin'" from 1974's Fulfillingness' First Finale and "Ordinary Pain" from 1976's Songs in the Key of Life. In 1977, she lent her vocal abilities to a track named "Yesterday and Karma", on Osamu Kitajima's album, Osamu.
In January 1976, Riperton was diagnosed with breast cancer and, in April, she underwent a radical mastectomy. By the time of diagnosis, the cancer had metastasized and she was given about six months to live. Despite the grim prognosis, she continued recording and touring. She was one of the first celebrities to go public with her breast cancer diagnosis but did not disclose she was terminally ill.
In 1977, she became a spokesperson for the American Cancer Society. In 1978, she received the American Cancer Society's Courage Award, which was presented to her at the White House by President Jimmy Carter.
Riperton died of cancer on July 12, 1979 at the age 31.
During the 1990s, Riperton's music was sampled by many rap and hip-hop artists, including Tupac Shakur, Dr. Dre, A Tribe Called Quest, Blumentopf, The Orb

Obviously this isn’t any kind of official list. I’m just assuming Riker named his backup singers after himself, the main Lower Decks characters eventually form a band since canonically at least Mariner, Boimler and Tendi play instruments, Sisko who is played by an incredibly talented singer occasionally sings, after the musical anomaly some Klingons turn into Kpop stans, and since everyone in the Hugh/Paul found family is musical sometimes they jam together.
Honorable mentions if I could have more options:
Deep in my soul I am convinced that Lwaxana is in a riot grrrl band, even if Majel Barett has never been known to sing.
Dolly Parton from The Orville. I mean. C’mon.

A date. That was the exact word Enid had used when telling Wednesday what needed to happen next. She had made it very clear that the word “date” had to be used in the question. “No more of that “outing” nonsense,” she had said. The girl had some audacity, Wednesday would give her that.
Now the real issue rested on what exactly Wednesday was going to do for said “date.” It was a word she hated using, it held far too much weight and responsibility and expectations. She couldn’t just ask you to go for a walk because you did that anyway. No coffee because it was a constant and you had started bringing her a coffee every morning anyway. No, it had to be more than that.
Dates took too much planning.
Which was exactly why she found herself on Enid’s computer, doing her best to use it without asking for help. There had to be something in the area that you would enjoy, right? But despair settled in the back of her throat as she came to a sudden, single terrifying realisation.
She had no idea what you would enjoy doing.
All the time she had spent with you, all the outings and coffees and tutoring sessions, and she didn’t have a single clue what your interests were. You clearly knew her very well, hence the autopsy outing, but she was at a complete loss. She raked her brain for every hint, every clue, every aspect of you that she had collected to try and figure out this small mystery.
The longer she sat there, the more she realised there really hadn’t been many clues to begin with. Your room was filled with everything you could find, not following a specific theme. The things you talked about mirrored everyone else, not your own interests. When she thought about it, she realised there had only been two times she had seen you doing something for you; playing piano in the opera hall, and skipping detention for birdwatching.
Birdwatching…
Typing on the computer was more difficult than using a typewriter. It didn’t click the same way. The only benefit was being able to erase her mistakes, but it still took too much time to type in what she wanted. Then there were too many search results to dig through, why couldn’t she just use a library instead? At least it was more rewarding when she finally found what she was looking for.
Nonetheless, she stopped her internal complaining when she found something that caught her eye. A few clicks to get to where she wanted, and her eyes scanned the words on the page. It would be a long shot, but she truly felt you would enjoy it. Hopefully her gut reaction was correct.
Now all she needed to do was ask you.
—---
“We haven’t had a chance to talk since you’ve been back,” Larissa said as you plopped down in the booth opposite her, coffee spilling out over your fingers.
You looked tired. It wasn’t an unusual thing after long breaks, you despised not being at Nevermore and having easy access to Nicholas. But this was different; your shoulders drooped more and your smile wasn’t as genuine. The shake in your fingers was usual, but not the glassiness in your eyes.
“It’s been crazy,” you chuckled lightly, though even that sounded forced.
“You seem tired,” she actually vocalised, leaning slightly forward on the table to hopefully put you at ease.
“Break was tough,” you admitted almost instantly. It was quite the surprise.
“Would you like to talk about it?” She asked.
You looked down at your hands and started playing with your coffee mug. A few small blood spots were around your nails and new scrapes were healing across your knuckles. You went boxing, Larissa thought with a hushed cluck of her tongue. As much as she knew you had a reason, few things brought her greater sorrow than seeing the scrapes and bruises across such sensitive hands.
“Kristi and Marcus started calling again.”
Larissa’s sorrow turned into sudden rage. You were still focusing on your mug, but she was seeing red. How dare they try to contact you again? They made it a point to do so about every other year, but as far as she was concerned, they had given up their rights to you when they dropped you and Nicholas off at Nevermore all those years ago.
She would never be able to forget the looks on yours and Nicholas’ faces when you realised that no, they weren’t coming back for you. They weren’t coming for Parents’ Weekend, they weren’t taking you home for winter break, they weren’t picking you up for the summer. No nine year old should ever be faced with the terrifying realisation that they had been abandoned.
They only ever attempted to contact you if they needed something from you. In fact, if she remembered properly, the last time they had contacted you was after the accident. Even then it was only to see how much they needed to pay in medical bills; not once did they show any amount of concern for your wellbeing.
It was times like this when Larissa wished she was a more violent person.
“Let me know if they call you again.” You looked up from your untouched coffee. “I will take care of it.”
You gave her a small smile; a genuine one, one that she found herself craving whenever you were around. The big smiles, the toothy ones that you had when talking about something you were passionate about, those were wonderful. They didn’t quite compare to the small ones, the quiet ones, the ones that were so soft they were practically a gift whenever you gave them. Larissa loved seeing that one.
“How has the term been so far?” Larissa asked as she leaned back in the booth and took a sip of her hot chocolate.
Now she could see that toothy grin that so often meant trouble.
“Besides detention?” You asked. Cheeky.
“You rightfully deserved those,” she answered with a light chuckle.
“It’s been good,” you continued. “Wednesday finally asked me on a date.”
“Did she, now?”
Larissa would admit she was shocked at the revelation. There were plenty of nights the past term when you would come by her office and pace, complaining time after time about how frustrating Addams was. Yet when she would ask if you wanted to give up, you would give her a look of utter incredulity; of course you didn’t want to give up.
The way you talked about Miss Addams was almost laughable; the sheer admiration on your face was beyond evident. And yet you were never ashamed, you continued to embellish. Whether it was about her intellect, or her personality, or her hobbies. You would ramble until you were out of breath or Larissa reminded you how late it was.
“Saturday morning, yeah,” you said, completely unaware of Larissa’s internal thoughts. “No idea what we’re doing but, you know, it’ll be fun.”
With a small smile, your eyes slowly slid shut as you sipped your coffee. The exhaustion was still evident in everything about you, but you looked serene. Larissa was unused to you looking at peace, yet whenever Miss Addams came up, it seemed so effortless. If a girl was all it took to keep you happy, Larissa was more than content to let you live out your life as the teenager you so rarely got to be.
—---
You had not dressed appropriately for the date, and Wednesday was on the verge of giving up and heading back to Nevermore.
She had explicitly told you numerous times that you needed to wear something warm because you would be outside. It was still winter, there was a possibility of snow, and she knew you got cold quickly. Yet what were you wearing when you met up with her? A button down, jeans, boots, and the thinnest jacket Wednesday thought she had ever seen.
“You’re going to freeze,” she told you, but you just waved off her concern and started walking. Now you were visibly shaking, and she didn’t feel sorry for you.
Maybe she felt a little sorry for you.
“Where are we even going anyway?” You asked through chattering teeth after only the first 15 minutes of walking.
But Wednesday didn’t answer you, she just kept walking. It was inconsiderate, she was well aware of that, but what could she do? Everything about this trip was supposed to be a secret, a surprise. As much as she craved to tell you, she was going to keep her mouth shut. It was for your own good.
“You’re not taking me out here to kill me, are you?” You asked, this time letting out a nervous chuckle.
Once again she didn’t answer, only looking at you out of the corner of her eye. It gave her a certain sadistic satisfaction to see your face drop. You froze in place while Wednesday kept walking; at least you couldn’t see the smile tugging at the corner of her mouth.
“Are you?” You asked again, your voice further away as Wednesday kept walking. “Wednesday!”
The sound of your boots against the cold ground grew louder until you were walking beside her again. You had pulled your jacket tighter around your body and your shoulders were hunched. If your wings had been free, they would’ve wrapped around your body to encase what little warmth was left. Wednesday wished you would let them out.
A tingle radiated up her arm as your knuckles brushed lightly against her hand as you both continued walking. A small part (a very small part) in the back of her mind told her to grab your hand. To intertwine her fingers with yours and feel your thumb rubbing in that way that was so frustratingly soft and comforting. And she nearly did when your hand brushed against hers again.
Just do it, she thought when, for a third time, you graced her with the touch of your fingers on her skin. It should have been easy, you were both alone and no one would see. There was a privacy you couldn’t get at Nevermore, which was exactly what Wednesday had been planning for. But she just couldn’t get herself to reach out, to actually hold your hand.
So imagine her surprise when you did it for her. When you grabbed her hand so gently it was almost torturous. Your hand was so much bigger, practically encompassing the entirety of her hand. And the warmth, god your skin was so warm, it was no wonder you were so cold.
She hoped you couldn’t feel her racing pulse in her wrist.
“What’s that?” You asked, and Wednesday’s shoulders relaxed when she saw the building up ahead.
Though now derelict, the majority of the aviary was still standing. Vines crept up the outside walls and through the broken windows while trees towered above, burying it in shadow. The evidence of past inhabitants remained in the form of nests littering the roof and window sills.
“You are gonna kill me, you bastard,” you mumbled, but judging by the squeeze of her hand, you were joking.
Hopefully.
Now it was Wednesday’s turn to pull you along after her, keeping a tight grip on your hand. She might not be the one to make the first move, but she was certainly not going to be the first one to let go. It was easy to understand why her father was always staying in physical contact with her mother; it was grounding, comforting, and reminded her of home.
The further into the building she led you, the more little noises of amazement you let out. Once fully inside, Wednesday realised just how much of a mistake it was to bring you to an abandoned aviary. With no regard for anyone’s safety, you practically ran around, pulling Wednesday with you whether her legs could keep up or not.
If she had wanted to lead you to a specific room, that plan was gone. You were so enthralled with the building, pointing out everything you saw whether you knew what it was or not. That was most likely the nest of a pigeon, oh look that’s a bluejay feather, those birds weren’t even native to Vermont. She could imagine this was what you had been like as a child; easily excitable and full of wonder.
It was a good look on you, that smile of yours. While you often had one, this was far different. This one reached your eyes and showed off the sparkle within them. She could see the slight chip in one of your teeth and the silver band of a retainer on your bottom teeth when you were talking. How lovely, Wednesday thought, to see such imperfections.
Where did that thought come from?
“I didn’t know birds set up picnics,” you said, and Wednesday finally stopped looking at you for long enough to remember the initial point of this outi- no, it was a date.
Right. This was planned.
What did she say? Should she tell you that yes, it was a picnic, Enid had helped her plan it? No, she couldn’t say that, it would be humiliating to admit that she had no idea how to plan dates, had never even been on a date, and had to have Enid of all people help her. She had needed help, and that was so humiliating that Wednesday would rather bury herself alive.
“It looks peaceful,” you said, and once again Wednesday felt a sense of relief that you were taking all the difficult things away from her. “Come on.”
With a much more reserved smile - though no less genuine - you pulled Wednesday over to the blanket and sat the both of you down. For the first time since the walk in the woods, Wednesday let go of your hand and let you do what you apparently did best. For having no idea about the intricacies of this day, you were certainly acting as if you had planned all of it.
The way you got everything out of the basket and started setting things out, one would have assumed you did this all the time. Wednesday certainly felt like it as you laid out her favourites in front of her while yours was more on your side. And when you poured the drinks, and started getting a plate ready for Wednesday before your own, and the way you held the plate out for her to take as if you were serving her your heart on a silver platter-
-no. No, Wednesday didn’t think she liked that terrifying possibility at all. It meant you cared. It meant you were willing to give things up for her, and that was hammered into her head when she saw the still angry wound on your neck that she had caused. No, that you had let her cause. And now you were offering her the rest of you as if there would be no consequences.
Say something, her mind told her as she took the plate from you and watched as you started making your own. You weren’t as careful about how you plated your own food, more just tossing it onto the plate without a care in the world. Nothing like the structured, separated plate you had made for her.
The list. Wednesday’s eyes widened slightly as she remembered the list in her jacket pocket. While you were preoccupied with trying to decide which specific piece of cheese you wanted - even though it was the same type of cheese - she grabbed the piece of paper and laid it out beside her. Positioned just perfectly so you couldn’t see it, but she could read it easily.
“How is your family?” Wednesday asked in the most nonchalant way she could with her heart trying to thump its way up her throat.
But the way you froze with wide eyes and a cracker sticking half out of your mouth instantly made her feel like she had started with the wrong question. You chewed your food slowly, so painfully slowly and for a moment Wednesday started to consider if death would be the best solution. Certainly it would be less torturous than waiting for what you would say.
“You wanna know about my family?” You asked incredulously with a look that was far too vulnerable for Wednesday’s liking.
“Yes,” Wednesday said around the lump in her throat.
Your eyes trailed off to the side as a smile tugged at the corner of your lips. Wednesday listened as you finally started talking, telling her all about your family. You talked about your siblings, how one of them still hadn’t wolfed out yet, or how the other didn’t even enjoy blood, or how the little ones were doing in school. Onward to your abuelita, and your grandfather, and your mother. Wednesday was dizzy with your quick name changes and though she still wasn’t keeping up, she rarely got to see you so happy.
Only when you had ran out of breath did Wednesday ask you the next question, and on the day went. She learned more about you in one day than she had over the past months she had known you. You could play the banjo and fiddle as well, but your brother Nicky was the real fiddle player. That grandfather of yours had been a blacksmith, that’s where the sword you had sent her father came from. The list went on and on, and Wednesday kept a mental note to thank Enid for the questions.
Conversation died down as Wednesday ran out of questions, but it was a comfortable silence. It was nice, truly, to just sit in silence without any worries. There was no need to concern yourselves with homework, or exams, or the real world. Just to simply sit there and hear the nature surrounding you both without a care in the world.
She waited until you finished snacking before setting her own plate back in the picnic basket. You followed suit and started packing everything up without question. You missed the raised brow she sent your way, but she forgave you for the moment. Instead, she reached over and grabbed your phone that you had left on the blanket.
Thanks to Enid’s teachings, she found the app she was looking for and started searching. You finally stopped mid-cleanup as you looked at her with furrowed brows. More than once you tried to lean over to see what she was doing, but each time she would pull the phone away and hide it from your sight. Each time, you let out a huff before continuing cleaning up.
“Stand up,” Wednesday said once you were done and she had found what she was looking for.
You gave her a look filled with suspicion, but stood up anyway. She pressed “play” on your phone and set it back down on the floor, standing directly in front of you as the waltz played through the speakers. With a “deer in the headlights” look on your face, you let Wednesday position you properly.
“Do as I say.” You gulped audibly but nodded anyway. She felt your hand grip her waist ever so tightly and she pushed down the excitement at the gesture.
Waltz after waltz played as Wednesday tried oh so desperately to teach you even just the basics of dancing. She guided you slowly, correcting you when necessary and doing her best to keep her patience. It wasn’t that you weren’t trying; the look of pure concentration on your face was proof enough.
You were just so, so horrible at dancing.
“If you correct me on that one more time, I will cry,” you said as soon as Wednesday opened her mouth. She promptly closed it and let go of your hand before stepping back.
She missed the warmth your hand had left on her waist.
“You may be a lost cause,” Wednesday said.
“I know,” you threw your head back and whined. Under your clothes, Wednesday noticed the faint shift of your wings. It gave her a new idea.
“You can repay me for your hopelessness.” You looked at her and blinked once. “Show me how you fly.”
“They’re tucked away,” you said without giving it a second thought.
“Release them.”
“Release them yourself,” you shot back.
“Okay.”
She ignored the look of incredulity on your face as Wednesday stepped forward and pushed your jacket off your shoulders. Her fingers grazed your neck in the process and, for your sake, she pretended not to notice the goosebumps left in their wake. Although she certainly noticed the way you were looking at everything but her even though your hand rested naturally on her waist.
Thankfully that meant you couldn’t see the shake in her fingers as she started unbuttoning your shirt. In return, she also pretended not to notice the blush creeping up your neck as she went down your shirt button by button, her own anxiety making it a slow process. A silent sigh escaped her when she saw you were at least wearing an undershirt beneath the straps of the harness.
“I think you just wanted to take my shirt off,” you said with a strangled chuckle followed by your body tensing up underneath her fingers.
She stopped her movements and looked up at you through her eyelashes; you looked utterly mortified. Your eyes were closed and you were biting your lip so hard Wednesday almost thought she could see blood. Why did you look like that, like you were in pain? You were correct, she wanted to take your shirt off, it was the only way to reach the harness for your wings. What part of that was so painful?
You were too stuck in your own head to even look at her, so she used that time to push your shirt off your shoulders and unbuckle the harness. It fell to the ground as your wings practically sprang out, stretching out completely before tucking back around your shoulders in what Wednesday could only describe as a protective stance. A look of relief flooded over your face as your wings moved, finally free.
“Do they hurt?” Wednesday asked before she could stop her own mouth.
“They just get stiff,” you mumbled, finally looking down at her again.
With a look, Wednesday decided you looked completely different when your wings were out. Your shoulders weren’t so hunched and you stood taller. Why would you keep them put away if it was clearly uncomfortable? The furs had no choice in their transformations, but you had a choice in keeping them free or not. What could have possibly happened to convince you that they needed to stay put away?
It truly was a tragedy to see such things tucked away for no one to see. There was such power in them, yet they appeared to be so incredibly delicate. They moved as if they had a mind of their own, and maybe they did. As the feathers ruffled and they wrapped around both you and Wednesday, she determined she wanted to know everything about them.
“Wednesday,” you whispered. She looked up at you, her breath catching in her throat at how close you were.
Only when she felt your free hand cover hers did she realise she still had her hands where your harness had been buckled. If she focused, she could feel your heart racing in your chest, begging to escape. That flush on your neck had spread to your cheeks and oh, your face was terribly close. So close she could see the little scar running through the right side of your top lip.
She couldn’t bring herself to look away from your lips. Not even when she felt your hand cup her face so gently, pull her flush against you as if you thought she would break. Nor when your fingers scratched lightly against her cheek it was torture. Or when you leaned down so slowly, so close that she could feel your quick breaths on her lips. All Wednesday had to do was stand up on her toes and she could-
-*bang!*
Wednesday blinked once when your body tensed underneath her. Her feet stumbled over each other when you pulled her closer, all gentleness gone as you held her tight. Being so close, with your wings wrapped around her, she couldn’t see your face properly. All she knew was you were looking around frantically, scanning every inch of the building for the sound.
Another shot echoed in the air, and Wednesday didn’t even have time to think of what it could be before you grabbed her tight and sprang into the air. Something loud and shrill rang in her ears as she clutched your shirt in tight fists. The chilled wind rushed past her face and the ground was not beneath her feet and she couldn’t tell what was up or down and she was panicking.
The ground rushed up to meet her feet and she stumbled as soon as your arms loosened around her waist. Her vision was swimming and you were saying something but she didn’t know what, she just knew she needed a moment. Maybe a few moments. She went to step back and felt the ground fall away once again before your fingers tangled in her jacket and pulled her back into you forcefully.
“Quit moving,” you said. No, it was an order, how unusual for you. “Just give it a minute.”
But it wasn’t going away, and Wednesday was giving it all the minutes she could spare. She couldn’t tell where she was, the ground was still pitching beneath her, everything was moving, she wasn’t even sure if she was standing upright. All she knew was your hands were in her jacket and your wings were around her and she couldn’t stop her hands from shaking.
“Ground yourself.” You grabbed her hands and placed them on your chest again, and though she would kill you if you brought it up, she instinctively pressed closer until she could feel your heartbeat underneath. “Focus and breathe.”
There was no way she was going to look up at you and let you see her internal discombobulation. But she gave in and did as you said, focusing on the beat of your heart underneath her fingers. The gentle comforting rhythm gave her no doubt it would easily lull someone to sleep. Against every instinct in her body, against everything her brain was screaming at her, she let her head fall forward until she could rest her head above your heart.
It sounded like home.
“You good?” You asked once Wednesday’s breathing had evened out and she could finally open her eyes without severe vertigo.
She pulled back until she could look up at you. Your brows were furrowed and you were giving her the best smile you could muster, but she knew concern when she saw it. Good, she hoped you were concerned. Whatever you had just done to her was horrible and unsettling and she was mad at you. It had made her seem weak and foolish and you were looking at her too softly.
“What did you do?”
“I- I panicked,” you mumbled. “Brought us up to the canopy.”
Ah. That explained it. The queasiness, the vertigo, her stomach jumping up into her throat. It had been your fault. Though, she would admit, your reaction speed was noteworthy. The shot had barely reached her ears before you had made your move, and she could see how it would be admirable.
You looked guilty, almost like a child who had gotten caught with their hand in the cookie jar. But Wednesday could see the way your wings still stayed near her even if they had to stretch further. She could see the way your hands were still subconsciously reaching toward her. Why? If you had thought there was a threat, you had reacted appropriately.
“Thank you.” A large exhale escaped your lips as you finally looked back at her. “But never do that again.”
“About that…” you rubbed the back of your neck.
“Don’t,” Wednesday warned, but you smiled sheepishly at her.
“It’s the only way to get down,” you said. Wednesday sighed.
“I hate you.”

much more context with an episode list below the poll!
more info below by episode (forgive me in advance if i forgot your favorite doctor-evolution episode) (also forgive me for all the mistakes i will immediately see once i hit post but will be unable to fix because we can't edit poll posts):
season one: "i wasn't programmed for any of this!"
"eye of the needle": after kes starts advocating for him, janeway offers him the power to turn himself off, and he asks for a name.
"heroes and demons": he leaves sickbay for the first time and has his first non-medical mission. he's emotionally affected by freya's death at the end.
season two: "before you, i was just a projection of photons held together by forcefields [...] just a profession, not a life."
"projections": he hallucinates an existential crisis about whether he's a human or a hologram.
"twisted": the doctor spends time recreationally with the crew on the holodeck for the first time (though it's not clear if he enjoys it).
"lifesigns": he falls in love with vidiian doctor danara pel. at first he says his program is malfunctioning, but later believes his programming is adapting instead. he also records his first personal log.
season three: "i'm footloose and fancy-free."
"the swarm": his program starts to degrade because he has been expanding it for hobbies like opera and friendships with the crew. he says his program should be rebooted so he can serve his "primary responsibility," but kes and the others convince him that his memories are important to keep. (factoid: we learn his maximum runtime was supposed to be 1500 hours.)
"future's end": mobile emitter time!!! and his first time off the ship.
"darkling": he starts editing his own program (and it doesn't go well).
"real life": he creates a holo-family for himself.
according to the stardate mentioned in "latent image" (see season five), the flashback part of that episode happens at the very end of season three.
season four: "i believe i've earned the respect of the crew as an equal."
"revulsion": we meet our first delta quadrant hologram (and it doesn't go well). this is the first time we hear about holograms being subjugated by "organics."
"message in a bottle": the doctor meets the EMH-2 and reveals that at some point he programmed himself a dick and had sex.
"living witness": we learn that the doctor has a backup module who seems to have the same emotions and self-awareness as the doctor himself (which i take to mean that whatever sentience is now in his program can be duplicated by copying).
season five: "we gave him a soul. do we have any right to take it away now?"
"latent image": we learn the doctor had a holo-breakdown (off-screen in late season 3) after his ethical subroutines could not reconcile his decision to save harry's life over another patient's. at the time, they determined that erasing some of his memories was the only way to repair him. at the end of the episode, after the doctor and seven both argue for his individual rights, janeway decides to let him work through his guilt rather than deleting his memories again. assuming this ultimately works after the episode ends, it means that he was able to overcome a critical programming conflict through introspection and social support instead of altering his programming.
season six: "haven't I earned the right to self-determination?"
"tinker, tenor, doctor, spy": the doctor formally complains that his sentience is not being acknowledged and argues that he should be allowed to grow his abilities beyond his role as doctor. he also wants his potential to be evaluated based on his holographic nature rather than humanoid limits ("my program can be expanded indefinitely. i don't have limits!").
"blink of an eye": he lives for three years on the time dilation planet and even has a son ("it's a long story").
"virtuoso": he tries to leave the ship to become an opera star, choosing his passion (and his ego) over his originally programmed purpose.
side note: "fair haven" and "spirit folk" are both in season six, and that's the first time that anyone (including the doctor) seems to consider the concept that regular holodeck characters might also have some kind of feelings, personhood, or right to continued existence (unlike in season three, when in "alter ego" it's both a joke and a problem that harry falls in love with a hologram, or in "real life" when the doctor is fine with b'elanna reprogramming his family without consulting them).
season seven: "the doctor exhibits many of the traits we associate with a person [...] but are these traits real, or is the doctor merely programmed to simulate them?"
"critical care": the doctor violates the hippocratic oath in his programming by harming a patient to save others, and it does not trigger the ethical subroutine breakdown he experienced in season 5.
"body and soul": delta quadrant holograms are in revolt. the doctor experiences humanoid pleasures and enjoys them.
"flesh and blood": he betrays voyager to save the hirogen-programmed holograms and (temporarily) leaves the ship to join them, "because i'm one of you."
"author, author": a federation arbiter decides that he's not legally a person, but is "no ordinary hologram" and has some limited rights.

Musicals Aren't Supposed to Have Encores | Luke Dunphy x fem!reader
Based on season 4 episode 14 of Modern Family: "A Slight at the Opera."
Warnings: None? Two eighth-graders kiss a few times... does that need a warning?
Word count: 2,052
Summary: Luke and Y/n step up to new roles in "The Phantom of the Opera" performance their middle school is presenting. Cam doesn't know what to do when the audience calls for an encore at the end of the show.
A.N.: Notes vs notes became a very hard thing to keep track of while writing this. Because I had notes, as in musical notes that you sing or play. And notes, as in theatre notes, directions as to what to do, and ideas of what needs to change. The struggle of being both a music kid and a theatre kid is real.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"What do you mean Genevieve is sick?" Cam exclaimed to the girl's mother over the phone, "First our Phantom falls ill, and now our Christine? Does the world think our theater department is filled with actors?... No, of course, I'm sorry. I hope she feels better soon."
Theatre never goes exactly as planned. You're bound to have bumps along the way. Cam was prepared for that. He had backup props and backup lavaliers. What he hadn't prepared for was for both his Phantom and his Christine to get sick.
Having already found and lost hope in having Luke play the Phantom, Cam felt he was running low on ideas and patience. So, he turned to his assistant director/stage manager: Y/n.
"Well, Y/n. What do you think?" Cam asked.
"About which?" she replied, "We've got a couple problems right now."
"Either. Any. All. I don't know," he was obviously at the end of his wits.
"I think that you should show Manny the video you have of Luke so that he can see what you want him to be doing," she offered.
"Alright," Cam agreed, calling Manny over to watch the recording, "And what about Christine? I hate to say it, but Genevieve was the only soprano we had who could--"
"Luke has to do it," Manny cut in, before rushing off to undo the damage he had done.
"Well, that solves that problem," Y/n said cheerfully.
"I doubt any of them even know all the words, let alone the right notes, the right timing..." Cam trailed off, "Luke could you run 'The Phantom of the Opera,' please?"
"The whole show?" Luke asked, surprised.
"No, the song," Cam clarified with an exasperated shake of his head that looked much more like Mitchell's mannerisms than his own.
"Uh, sure, yeah. I don't know my cue without Christine's part, though."
"Y/n, could you sing Christine's parts until I figure out a replacement?" Cam requested turning to her.
"Well, I don't normally... but I guess I could... I do know the words, and the notes, and the timing and blocking... Sure." She replied.
The two walked over to the piano to practice. Y/n hadn't gotten more than four lines in when the whole theater was staring at her. Cam realized that maybe his Christine had been hiding in plain sight just like his Phantom. Her vibrato was perfect. Her voice paired perfectly with Luke's. Y/n and Luke looked up shocked when the entire ensemble came in perfectly on cue to find that Cam was conducting them like a choir. Y/n smiled at Luke, as they turned so the entire cast was rehearsing together. When they got to the part where Christine climbs up in notes, everyone's jaws hung open. Y/n herself was a tad surprised at how cleanly the notes came from her chest. Sure she loved to sing. Sure she had practiced this entire musical what felt like a million times. But to hear it in a theater. To hear how creepy her friend Luke could sound, perfectly portraying the Phantom. To hear the song all around her. It felt unreal. Especially when she got to the E6. She knew that for Genevieve they had lowered it, but she also knew that she could hit it. So, she ditched the note Cam had given the original Christine and chose instead to follow the regular notes of the song.
"Y/n," Cam started once the song was over, "You need to play Christine. Your voice is perfect. You know all the directions I gave. You understand what I'm trying to do with this show. Please, we need you as Christine."
"Okay, okay," she replied quickly.
They were very lucky that the costumes, which had been brought in for different actors, fit Y/n and Luke almost perfectly. Everything after casting Y/n had been rushed chaos. She had called her mom to bring her a pair of white heels since the original shoes didn't fit. But she neglected to tell her mom why she needed the shoes, simply insisting that the show sounded amazing and her family just had to come. Standing backstage, Y/n and Luke were talking while she used safety pins to shorten his cape. They didn't exactly have a replacement stage manager after all and she had offered to continue with both roles.
"You look really pretty," Luke commented as she stood up and handed him his pinned cloak.
"Thank you," she replied, a slight blush creeping onto her cheeks, "you should wear suits more often, you look quite dashing. I'd lose the mask though, your face is too cute to be covered."
Now it was Luke's turn to blush. He knew that Y/n was good at flustering people, of course he did, they had been best friends for years and she was his long-time crush, but he had never found himself on the receiving end of her flattery.
"Hey!" She called out quietly to one of their castmates, "That's not where that prop goes. Go put it on the prop table where it belongs."
"You know we're supposed to kiss, right?" Luke asked when Y/n turned back to him.
"Yes," she answered, "Poor Genevieve and Marcus, do you think that's why they're both sick? They had to kiss so much in rehearsal."
"Oh yeah, poor things, they had to kiss someone over and over again," he said, sarcasm dripping off every word.
"Careful," Y/n chided, "I'll kiss you over and over again."
"Like that's a threat," Luke snarked, before remembering who he was talking to, the confidence leaving him at once, "--I mean, we should probably practice at least once. Just, so we're on the same page. Know what to expect."
"Hmm, probably," she said slowly, before grabbing his hand and pulling him toward her.
Y/n kissed him gently, sweetly. And then it was over, and Luke decided he would do whatever it took to be able to kiss her again.
"Alright," Cam called, all the actors gathering around, "Uh... Luke, Y/n if I could talk to you for a moment after we're done. Alright, everyone, this is going to be great, there's nothing more we can do at this point. I know we've had a few hiccups, but I think we've come out stronger. So, good luck. Just, don't think about the audience. Be loose, speak clearly and enunciate, and have fun. Break a leg!"
When he had dismissed everyone else, Y/n and Luke walked over to Cam.
"Ah, good," he began, "I just want you to know how proud I am of you. And I wanted to make sure you didn't have any questions. Last minute confusions?"
"Nope," Luke said.
"None," Y/n confirmed.
"Good, good. And the kiss, I know we didn't talk about it. You're both alright with it?"
"Yep."
"Yes. We made sure to go over that with each other. We're on the same page. We know what to expect," she clarified, smiling at Cam, before looking at Luke with what he swore was a smirk.
"Wonderful. Then I'll go introduce our show, and we will begin," Cam said before leaving with a flourish.
The show was going perfectly. The audience was already captivated and they were only five songs in. When the iconic opening notes to "The Phantom of the Opera" began to play Y/n could feel people shift in their seats. She felt the pressure to perform the song well but didn't find herself nervous. One glance at Luke told her he felt the same way. Hearing how their voices melded together perfectly, Y/n was filled with giddy happiness. She couldn't have really explained it, but it pushed her further. When she began her climbing notes they were even stronger than they had been earlier.
They had taken an intermission between the two acts, and Y/n was enjoying some lemon honey tea, while a speaker next to her played "Something to Believe In" from Newsies. Luke was sitting in a makeup chair, across from her with his own cup, fidgeting as prosthetics were being applied to his face. In between taking sips of tea, the two were softly singing along to their favorite musical number, causing the poor kid trying to do Luke's makeup to continuously snap at him for moving his head.
"And if I'm gone tomorrow"
"What was ours still will be"
"I have something to believe in"
"Now that I know you believed in me."
Out in the audience, Haley had arrived during intermission and was now entering the theater with everyone else.
"I left the house as soon as I got your text," Haley exclaimed to Alex, "I can't believe Luke is playing the lead!"
Backstage, Cam called quietly: "Curtain's up again in five! You're doing great, y'all!"
Finally, they were reaching the end of the play. Alex was clinging to Haley's arm, practically holding her breath. By that point she had all but forgotten that her brother was playing the Phantom, having become deeply invested in the story. Not until Christine was standing, turning the Phantom to face her, did Haley lean over to Alex to whisper: "Can you believe that's Luke?"
Then, Christine kissed him.
"Oh my gosh," Alex exclaimed lightly to her sister, "They like each other."
"Who?" Haley replayed, "The Phantom and what's-her-name?"
"No, Luke and Y/n."
"Oh, yeah, duh. They have for years."
Then, Christine was kissing him again.
The curtain came down and then raised again, leaving the cast to bow. They led the audience in applause to the sound crew, the lighting crew, the musicians, and then Cam who joined them on stage. The curtain went down again, but the audience's applause didn't die down with it, rather it picked up. A few parents in the audience called for an encore, and soon the entire theater joined in.
"We don't have an encore," Cam quickly whispered to the cast, "Musicals aren't supposed to have encores. But they seem to really want one, does anyone have anything?"
"We do," Luke said, looking at the girl next to him.
"We do?" Y/n questioned, her eyebrows raised.
"Sure, 'Something to Believe In,'" he told her, before turning to Cam, "From Newsies."
"Are you sure?"
"We know the whole thing by heart," Y/n assured him.
Cam walked out in front of the curtain.
"Well, ladies and gentlefolk. You asked for an encore, so an encore you will receive," as Cam spoke, Manny ran to tell the pianist what the encore would be.
Cam continued, "But first, I'd like to thank my terrific cast for getting over humongous hurdles, especially my incredible leads, who only stepped into their roles today, having previously not been a part of the cast, but the crew. And who, just now, pulled an extra song out of their hats, like theatre magicians,"
He looked at the pianist asking, "We're ready?"
The pianist confirmed he was, indeed, ready.
"This is 'Something to Believe In' from Newsies," Cam said with a smile, before walking off stage.
The curtain had risen again, revealing that the mobile set pieces had been removed. There stood Luke and Y/n, the former of which had changed slightly: he had ditched his suit jacket, rolled up his sleeves, messed up his hair, and was standing so the audience could only see the normal side of his face. Their plan was to run the scene from first line to exit, and that's exactly what they did.
Sitting in the audience, Alex and Haley quietly squealed to each other. For years, they had been having monthly movie nights, just Haley, Alex, Luke, and Y/n. And each month, they watched one of four movies. Newsies being one of those movies. They had often joked that Y/n was like Katherine, joining another family. And each time "Something to Believe In" would start, someone would say it must be one of the best love songs ever, and the rest of the kids would agree.
Boy, did the two actors have fun with it. The nudging, the kiss. The playful looks turned to silent flirting. Everything they wanted to do in their own lives, and the song required all of it. When the curtain lowered for the final time, the audience erupted in cheers. Backstage, Cam ran to Y/n and Luke, engulfing them in a hug only a proud director/uncle could give.
I don't own Modern Family or any of its characters/plots. I don't own The Phantom of the Opera or any of its characters/plots/songs. I don't own Newsies or any of its characters/plots/songs.

Hi there! Playlist anon again. I listened to the whole thing and here are my thoughts. I hope this isn't over reaching cause I really enjoyed it overall and would love to see the rest 🙏🏽. Buckle in this is longgg
Rivers is a Vampire- Sonic would dance fight Shadow to this song (like in the original puss in boots, look up the scene I swear it's great).
Loose Cannon- it's both so Shadow and Sonic coded but it's funnier if it's Shadow realizing he likes Sonic. More likely it's supposed to be Sonic @ Shadow and it really fits. 10/10 putting it on my personal playlists.
Genius - this is Sonic having a jam sesh in his bedroom. 7.5/10 very in character, you're going to make me start liking rock music.
Assassin- 9/10 Shadow in his emo boy bag. The verses feel like Shadow in his head thinking he's hot shit (he's right), but the chorus feels like Rouge trying to talk him down. Overall big fan.
Lost- Honestly really love the vibes of this one. It sounds like Sonic and Hoax fighting/ talking or just Sonic debating with himself. Love the jaunty music with the sinister undertones.Fading World- 7/10(<- could be higher depending on personal taste) A nice interplay between Sonic's cheery friendliness and Shadow's.... everything. A nice world building song if that makes sense. If vamp au! were a level in a game this would play.
Moon Trance- A vampire nobility song if that makes sense. Kinda gives off Blaze if Sonic were dropping in with EDM beats. World building song.
Phantom of the Opera Overture- Shadow once again in his emo bag. Listening to this I imagine him dramatically posed as Ophelia in the river as Rouge looks on utterly unimpressed. Another world building song.
Dear Wormwood- 10/10 Devastating. This feels like when Shadow discovers Rogue is a vampire (if that's still canon?) and could work for the Sonic/Hoax reveal but to a much lesser extent.
Galacta Knight Theme- 5/10. Not bad but I'm not entirely sure how it fits. Feels like a world building song but lacks the rock and goth roots of its predecessors. I wanna say it feels like an Eggman song?
Trouble- Rouge song very fun (Shadow if you get a microscope). Good for a chase scene or playful fight.
Look What You Made Me Do Remix- Shadow after Sonic sneaks an extra sip of blood. 8/10 Shadow wouldn't be a Swiftie but he would bop to a song or two.
Bodies- GODDDDD 10/10. Shadow tracking a vampire to a party in his vulture outfit and having to maneuver his way to stealthily kill them (can't remember clearly if Shadow's actively a vampire hunter in the au rn but you get the vibe /pos).
Vampire Culture- like I said before Shadow being a hater /pos. Somebody get this boy a weighted blanket he needs to chill 8/10. I imagine he plays this as he puts on each vampire repellent stud and piercing.
The Magic 8- A very Sonic song in message but also Amy with the talk of magic. Funky duet? They'd probably sing this at Shadow 9/10.
Who's in Control- 10/10 Another Sonic/ Hoax talking song (I interpret their dynamic to be that Hoax has less inhibitions than Sonic and is overall allowed to be looser. hopefully that's close).
Why Do I- Sonic after Shadow realizes he's Hoax and they have a falling out. It feels do very Teen Beach Movie /pos. He'd get a whole musical number with backup dancers and rad sad choreography.
Blood Red Moon- World building song. Funnily enough I think you'd introduce Shadow with it. Dark foggy night, random vamp running away/ person being attacked by one, cut to Shadow standing ominously with a lightning strike for good measure. Lowkey has cowboy vibes.
Born of a Star- Feels like a happy future. The type of track that would play towards the end of a boss fight.
Drumming Song- 8/10. Very much an Amy song I like it a lot plenty of witchy vibes. Feels like it would play when she performs a powerful spell/ ritual (not sure exactly how her magic works). The chorus especially also sounds like Shadow describing the effect Hoax has on him :).
You've Created a Monster- Shadow. That's the review. This plays during a hunt or just during his morning routine. Just goofy enough to hide the emotional turmoil but serious enough to show his issues 8/10.
This is Why- Shadow whenever he sees Hoax. He's his biggest hater. Also Shadow at his job with Knuckles (he's about to punch someone's teeth in).
Figure 8- Sad Shadow hours. Probably around the time he just met Hoax and made the deal. Sounds like he's questioning his whole identity :(.
Shoot to Kill- 6/10 World building song. It's giving gathering of elders in the vampire kingdom.
Punching Bag- I've been associating the Set it Off songs with Sonic so far so at first I was thrown for a loop, but honestly? I can see him singing this after someone (Shadow) tries to kill him. It can also be a Shadow song but I find the Sonic angle very interesting.
Vampire- 9/10. ROUGE SONG. She's about to rob a man, GOOD FOR WOMEN.
Sirens- Not sure exactly this would apply to but very fun. Sounds like Shadow falling in love in a very overdramatic way but could also be Sonic. 8/10
Again sorry for the length and I hope I didn't interpret anything egregiously wrong 😭
I think the band In This Moment and their albums GODMODE, Mother and Ritual could maybe fit.
Thanks again for sharing :)🙏🏽
~🩸🎵
anon i am literally kissing you on ur nonexistent smooth gray mouth HHJDFHHSDH this is the nicest thing anyones ever given me im so giddy about this DHFSHFHSDJDSF that being said this is gonna get so long so i am adding the under cut LOL
Rivers is a Vampire- youre so fucking right for this and i wanna draw it so bad ... JKDFJKSJKF
Loose Cannon-set it offs elsewhere album is a whole banger and highly recc the whole thing >:]]] and this song is a shadow centric one ! about how hes always on the edge around everyone bc of his paranoia, and esp around hoax lol, he gets mad about being called out </333
Genius - sonic jamming to this is also so correct fdjghjdfg contrary to shadow, sonic in vampire au is just here to have a good time LMAO (u should get into rock :} BDSFBH its fun here)
Assassin- this one is rlly interesting to me bc the ENTIRE thing is intended to be a shadow callout post from sonic/hoax pov. i would not have considered this being shadow reflecting on himself at all ! but damn the rouge pov also works out really well too, i never considered that either! (originally i figured the only rouge mention would have been 'you hear whispers when were just talking' which would have been sonic and rouge talking to each other and shadow thinks they are conspiring </3)
Lost- this one is a lil complicated in my rat brain shdfhj !! this one is shadow pov! its like. about his perspective shifts across the plot in vampire au- first trying to hide from the scary vampires </3 and the screams are getting louder line ....is about maria...... i eated that part up.... "please dont find me im not ok" is a very shadowcore line and the final lost chorus meant to rep shadow eventually becoming 'lost' in what scared him but like. embracing it. this one. is hard to convey JJSDFJSD prob would need art to get across what i mean i suppose Fading World- this one is a Maria and GUN song ! :]c (dont worry about the fact its bass boosted. i am just guy who likes bass......)
Moon Trance- close !!! silver and mephiles :3333 jbhdfjdj(meph is blazes royal advisor so it does tie back to her kingdom ehe). boys who prowl and will bash your head in to this in the woods somewhere
Phantom of the Opera Overture- "Shadow once again in his emo bag. Listening to this I imagine him dramatically posed as Ophelia in the river as Rouge looks on utterly unimpressed. Another world building song." I NEED TO DRAW THIS SO FUCKING BAD AHAHH u are SO FUCKING RIGHT FOR THIS. side note, a general rule of thumb (not always but a lot) anything that sounds this fucking dramatic is shadow pov and how he imagines vampires, the real guys are just chilling dfbhgfhsd with their nerd music. shadow is vampires #1 hype man without even realizing
Dear Wormwood- this one is Primarily a shadow and GUN song !! tho there are little tidbits of others who he has discovered lied to him like rouge eggman and sonic !!! (and yes shadow finding out rouge is a vampire is still canon >:])
Galacta Knight Theme-close with the eggman bit !! a theme for geebo <333(Lance)
Tumblr media
Trouble- very correct vibes !! primarily rouge but i would add sonic in there too !! they both have that fun playful air to them tbh that i think a lot of people overlook in their canon dynamic hfgdhj
Look What You Made Me Do Remix- Shadow @ everyone tbh !! buttt primarily this is during his GUN arc when hes just so fed up with being lied to (he doesnt even know) i think if u remixed enough taylor swift into rock or metal he could get down to it fdgbjgdhjf
Bodies- YOURE SO RIGHT FOR THISSSS. esp the vulture part :]c... and the vampire hunter part is .. a little complicated ! he kinda is sometimes? theres a specific circumstance that makes him more willing to actively hunt and kill
Vampire Culture- he is absolutely blaring this in his mind while he gets ready lmaooo . big fan of weight blanket shadow tho dhgfdjg....something to draw.... fun lil fact tho... i imagine that smooth voice to be the head of GUN....
The Magic 8- i think sonic is the one singing it! but its all about amy! about her arc with her desperation to prove herself, getting consumed by her ambitions, and working with dark magic :)
Who's in Control- the sonic and hoax angle is SOOO interesting to me! i would have never thought of it bc frankly they are chill af, he does not have much turmoil about it! this has always been a HUGE shadow song esp 'living in fear, living afraid, hysterical everyday"
Why Do I- this is actually shadow @ sonic !!! reverse hehehe. this is one of the more accurate songs lmaooo, like 'wake up in cold sweats screaming your name" this song is the canon point in time where shadow first realizing he has a crush on sonic !! sonic is the reason the bastard drinks </3333
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Blood Red Moon- absolutely obsessed with your version of it oughhhh, but its always been an eggman song to me (esp with that laugh lol)! and one of his silly little schemes. defo gonna draw that shadow idea tho thats so sick (and it is SO cowboy. do not be surprised if it winds up in the desert vampire playlist)
Born of a Star- this one is a death song ! self reflection and "how did we get here"
Drumming Song- close with the chorus part ! but the entire thing is Sonic pov about how yummy yummy shadows blood is 😋 shadows heartbeat drumming in his mind !
You've Created a Monster- i was SO fucking confused when i saw this bc!!!! youtube is hiding that video from me "its not available" !! and apparently you can see it but i cant!!! im so mad but i also owe you my life bc i found the song again and it BANGS SO HARD and it is 100% shadow wanting to kill maim <3333 its also a 3 way song for shadow @ everyone/ Hoax @ shadow about how shadow seems to be forcing hoax to be the monster he fears to justify his hatred/ uh oh amy fucked up !!!!
This is Why- THE JOB ANGLE IS SO CORRECT AND FUNNY, obsessed with that. but also yeah shadow doesnt like outside </3 rouge is the one saying the coast is clear </333
Figure 8- the deal interpretation is so good...... thats all im ever gonna think about now. honestly "all for your sake, became the very thing that i hate, i lost my way, spinning in an endless figure 8" was meant to be a shadow talking about maria line! but thats all i really got from the song, the deal idea is so good.......
Shoot to Kill- i personally saw this as a shadow GUN song !! bro is more intense and focused than usual
Punching Bag- THIS CHANGED ME WTFFF, i was struggling to see it as shadow and GUN, but oh my fucking GOD, the sonic pov is so raw and i am OBSESSED with it. pissed him off one too many times !!!!!!!
Vampire- WE SUPPORT WOMENS WRONGS !!! YAY ROUGE!!!!
Sirens- this is a shadow and GUN song !! solace in their song is propaganda !! shadows ready to shoot !!! shake off some blues kill vampires !!! HES BACK IN THE NOOSE!!!! SONIC GIVE HIM ALL YOU GOT BECAUSE IF NOT THEYRE GONNA DROWN HIM OUT !!!!!!! ehe :]
i listened to Mother and couldnt immediately feel anyone out with it but ill look thru their other stuff and rack my brain !!! ty for the suggestion !!!! but omg ty SO MUCH this was so fun if u ever wanna hmu for the other playlists...... i am looking so hard.. (but no pressure !! this was already so much and im so grateful !!!)

Ko-Fi prompt from KemiKitty:
id enjoy hearing about concerts and ticket money if you want
Referencing my “how does this make money/how does this lose money” in this post.
Whoo! I actually really enjoy talking about money flow like this. Digging into examples like this helps with understanding the interconnectedness of the economic systems we inhabit, and with why things cost What They Do.
Disclaimer: I have not worked in this industry. I just majored in business, watch a lot of documentaries/video essays, and like to break down business and economic topics. When I got to performances, I try to figure these things out as an observer (dinner theater from watching Lindsey Sterling before she got super famous, more Traditional concerts at Staller Performing Arts center, Broadway shows) and asking questions of tour guides when at places like the Vienna Opera House.
Our Example: A moderately popular performer, in an enclosed performance space with a stage, fixed seating, and food service.
Let us consider a performer of middling popularity. They go on tours, but only in the lower 48 states, not yet internationally. They do single nights at an independent venue, which has either dinner tables or rows of audience seating. Let's say... 350 seats, in a middle-sized city, with $30/ticket on average, with wiggle room depending on seating, VIP passes, and discounts (groupons, senior, military, annual passes, etc).
So, who is getting paid, and who is paying?
Money coming into the venue, tied directly to this one event:
Tickets The people who came to this concert are paying for the tickets. 350 seats, at an average of $30/ticket, that's about $10,500. Most of this money does not go to the venue, but may pass through it, or leave a cut with it. (Depends on the ticketing software; we're saying this is an independent venue, not part of the ticketmaster situation, so it's a maybe.)
Food and drink The venue sells snacks, possibly full meals, if it's a dinner-and-show location. It may sell alcohol. It almost definitely sells drinks, maybe has vending machines if nothing else. If attendees cannot bring their own food and drink, and don't want to leave the building so they don't miss the show, then the venue can mark up the food they sell.
Merchandise Dependent on the type of merch and the venue, this may be a flat fee, where the performer puts down a few hundred dollars up front to set up a table for after the concert, or it might be taking a small cut of whatever is sold that night. They might not charge anything, but we'll include it as a likely avenue of income. I can see some kinder venues waiving the fee for newer, up-and-coming artists, but generally you can assume that the venue will take a cut.
Money flowing out of the venue, tied directly to this one event:
The Performer and their team The ticket costs will go primarily to the performer, their backup dancers/singers/band, their manager, and whatever fund they have for things other than wages, like a tour bus rental fee, the label, the driver, the night's post-concert laundry costs, and so on. The chances of all that money going to a single performer is very low; you can generally assume they have backup, management, additional costs, and someone pulling the strings. There are exceptions, like unaffiliated stand-up comedians or other, genuinely solo acts, but for the type of event I'm outlining, these are all contributing factors. Performers may bring their own lighting/sound techs. The venue also might provide their own. For a larger venue, I'd assume both are involved; one who knows the concert's program, and one who knows the venue's setup.
Venue staff The ushers, lighting/sound technicians, the bar staff, the cook, the janitor, security, and anyone else who is working night-of is getting paid. We can equate their pay to the money coming in from specifically the food and drink sales, along with tips for the waitstaff in particular. By this, I mean that the correlation is such that, should sales fall, the corresponding cut in costs is employee labor (the bar staff and cooks), rather than the performers (whose costs are calculated in relation to the money they bring in relating to the ticket sales).
Food and Drink Raw ingredients for the food, wholesale costs for the liquor, napkins, single-use straws, and so on.
Printed Programs Someone has to print the little booklet that tells you who's performing tonight, who's performing for the next few months, and anything else you need to know. If it's a big-name cultural center, they may even include some interviews! But ink is expensive, and that's a lot of paper.
Money coming into the venue, not connected to the specific event:
Advertising Does the venue have posters around for local businesses? For insurance companies? For upcoming events? Someone is paying them for that. Does the venue intersperse the pre-show music over the speakers with the occasional ad spot? Someone is paying them for that. Does the venue have ads in the program booklet? Someone is paying them for that. For a really, really large venue, the kind with dozens or hundreds of employees and massive lighting/sound setups, they are liable to get most of their income from advertising.
Government Grants and Private Donations Depending on the venue, they may donations or grants. This is more likely to apply to a university/community performing arts center than a for-profit dinner theater, but it's a possibility.
Merchandise The venue may have merch that is unrelated to the performance of the night. A historic or novelty location is most likely to have success with this, selling beer glasses with their logo or a t-shirt with 'home of the [band from several decades ago]' printed across the front.
Money flowing out of the venue, not connected to the specific event:
Administrative/Overhead Employees Management, bookkeeping, legal, marketing, and so on.
Utilities Electricity, water, sewage, gas, telecomm, and so on.
Taxes, Licenses, Fees Sales tax, property tax, liquor license, etc.
Mortgage or lease The venue's business owner is not necessarily the one to own the property outright. They may pay rent to a property owner, or mortgage to the bank.
Maintenance - Building Codes Any large building is going to need plumbers, glass techs, electricians, roofers, and so on coming by with regularity. (This part, I actually do know; I used to do repairs dispatching, and you'd be amazed how frequently a big box store needs someone to come by about the toilets.)
Maintenance - Venue Codes There are certain things that an entertainment venue needs to do that other businesses... don't. Namely, fire safety. It's a huge deal. Staying up to code can be expensive, especially if you need to get your backstage/wing curtains chemically treated again, which can be anywhere from one to five years, or the next time someone spills water on it. (That's the main reason open containers of liquids aren't allowed backstage.)
Marketing Just like people pay the venue to advertise, the venue pays for others to advertise it. This could be in the local newspaper or online, but if a given performer isn't someone semi-famous on tour that has a following, then something else needs to draw in a regular paying crowd.
Miscellaneous Overhead There is a lot of overhead for any business of moderate size that has its costs spread out over the year. This includes hiring an accountant for tax season, purchasing uniforms for employees, replacing cutlery and plates and furniture as it wears out or gets lost, repainting the walls every few years, office supplies when the printer for the programs wears out, and so on.
Is this everything? Almost definitely not.
But, hopefully, I've untangled a few things that you may not have considered before.
Those tickets and drinks you bought cover a lot more than just the performer!
...unless it's through ticketmaster, in which case it's probably just the monopoly.

❄️A Pristine Carol ❄️
A Mario + Rabbids AU Revisited...
In the Space Opera Network, during the most festive time of the year, the Phantom of the Bwahpera prepares for his annual Winter's Ball performance at Pristine Peaks. Much to the dismay of everyone, his ego is increased tenfold as he refuses to acknowledge his struggling employees. When the Phantom is greeted that night by his dead companion and three other spirits, he begins to realize the error of his ignorant ways.
A holiday ghost story... About a ghost being haunted by ghosts. How ironic!
Inspired by Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, this AU has both holiday cheer and all the spooks you'll ever need!
@randomrabbidramblings @bramble-scramble @minnesotamedic186 @deezeyrabbidy @pastelprince18 @murd3r-rabbids @mimizzin @mothstache @sneklover @salamifuposey @spaceiis0daz
The Cast:
The Phantom of the Bwahpera (Ebenezer Scrooge)
Bea (Belle, Scrooge's Lover)
Judas Morose (Jacob Marley)
Jedidiah McGruff (The Ghost of Christmas Past)
Z.I.N.G. (The Ghost of Christmas Present)
Mal "Fleshcarver" Steward (The Ghost of Christmas Future)
Leo (Bob Cratchet)
Little Lottie (Tiny Tim)
Dolly Mallard (Fred, Scrooge's Nephew - OC by @minnesotamedic186)
The Whole Story in a Nutshell:
The story begins with Phantom reminiscing about his best friend, Judas Morose, who died five years ago while preparing for the Winter's Ball at Pristine Peaks.
Leo, his assistant, asks if he could take a vacation on that day so that he could bring his wife and daughter to his performance, and Phantom does under the condition that his pay will be docked (permanently).
They then get a visit from the kind-hearted Dolly Mallard, who invites him over at her mansion to celebrate the winter festivities. Phantom declines, saying that his performance is far more important than some simple social gathering.
That night, Phantom comes home to get some beauty sleep until he is suddenly visited by Judas Morose, a wretched soul bounded and dangled by heavy chains, who tells him that he must change or else he'll be just like him.
Judas, before he returns to the afterlife, shows Phantom all of the celebrities who were just like him - self-centered and greedy.
Thus begins the haunting. As the clock strikes, Jedidiah McGruff, a country singer with a hankering for smoke and whiskey, appears. He takes Phantom to the past, revealing every moment that made the opera ghost who he is.
In the past, the Phantom was defeated by the hands of Mario and his crew of Heroes at his birthplace, Spooky Trails, and is met by Morose, who seizes the opportunity to make him a star.
Phantom does become a major star, popular for his operatic roasts, and becomes a big part of Morose's party inside a nightclub. Here is where he meets Bea and they fall in love. But their relationship soon became strife with heartbreak as Phantom obsesses over the spotlight, ending with him breaking up with her through text.
The clock then strikes twice, and Phantom encounters an electrifying rapper and DJ named Z.I.N.G., who shows him the present.
Leo arrives home to his wife, Lucille, and his daughter, Little Lottie, who is a huge fan of Phantom. The opera ghost realizes that she's autistic - a lonely girl with a big imagination and an even bigger heart. Lucille laments on how Phantom treats Leo, but Leo remains positive, for their daughter's sake.
Z.I.N.G. then takes Phantom to Dolly Mallard and her gathering of friends playing a guessing game, which turns out to be an excuse to make fun of Phantom. Z.I.N.G. then turns Phantom's attention to his backup dancers, Ignorance and Want, before leaving him.
And finally, when the clock strikes three, the final spirit, Mal "Fleshcarver" Steward of the metal band Rabbid Stew, appears from the darkness. She shows Phantom a vibrant and bustling world of fame and fortune, which was caused by the disappearance of a certain bad celebrity.
This celebrity was so horrible, so terrible, that everyone began praising his absence and goes as far as to sell off his items at an auction for extremely cheap prices. With Phantom not getting it, Fleshcarver then shows Lucille receiving a sudden call from the local school about Little Lottie.
Little Lottie, badly injured after another of her encounters with bullies, is in the nurse's office with her dad. When her mother arrives, she nonverbally communicates that she wants to disappear forever so that everyone can be happy.
Heartbroken by this little girl's predicament, and extremely scared of his future, Phantom begins to realize who the missing celebrity is. Fleshcarver then takes him to a decrepit mansion where he - that very celebrity - was crushed by a hanging chandelier while alone, wallowing in his failed career.
Phantom pleads for forgiveness and begs for another chance at redemption, vowing to put others before himself.
He then wakes up! He is alive, very, very much alive, and he is beyond ecstatic! The story ends with Phantom adding a great sum in everyone's paycheck, allowing Leo and his family to his performance for free, and arrives at Dolly Mallard's party, who was greeted with open arms.
