Man I fucking hate how people on this site think Calvinism is the default for Christianity and Christian theology.
Like I'm gonna pull my hair out. Guys, guys, come with me to medieval Christianity where we had *ninety* FEAST DAYS A YEAR and where REFUSAL to ENJOY God's creation was a MORTAL SIN.
Puritan ideas about humanity being separate from the world and all physical pleasure being sinful weren't the fucking norm please guys I'm begging you...
(not that suffering was seen as negative 100% of the time, and fasting was absolutely part of the faith but not everyone was expected to live like a monk who took a vow of poverty. Also wait until I tell you that like, 80% of cheeses we have now were invented at monasteries and that often, rich youngest sons were sent to live at monasteries bc it they weren't Franciscan (iirc) life was pretty fucking sweet for a monk!)

Antisemitism on college campuses
You know what's not going to free Palestine?
-Barricading Jewish students from entering certain buildings, ordering them to stay indoors during one of our biggest holidays. -chanting antisemitic slogans and slurs. -Harassing and physically attacking Jews. It's literally Nazi behaviour.
The last few days have been terrifying for Jews across the world, and these instances shouldn't be ignored.Imagine any other minority group being treated like this.

I really just feel embarrassed and sad for the few Jewish kids at the Columbia protests and in JVP generally.
Our culture and history is beautiful and important, and worth celebrating on its' own merits, for its' own sake. If your friends and comrades can't support you in that, if you feel like you can't invite them to your seder table without "All Lives Matter"-ing the haggadah... Those people are not your allies, and they do not really view you as theirs.
Please try and do better for yourself. There are some wonderful organizations out there like A Land for All and Standing Together you could be championing instead.

I think one of the biggest things bothering me about how the pro-palestinan movement is working in america/Canada is that its actually very much not pro-palestinan.
These people are anti-israeli (at best), and that is the platform. "From the river to the sea" at best states that the land should be palestinian, but simultaneously denies Israeli rights to sharing". "Intifada" calls are also not particularly pro-palestinian.
These are also not pro-peace rallies. The ones I have walked past on my campus (which haven't gotten nearly as much media attention) are always loud, in your face. They stormed our president's office a few months back, preventing him from actually getting work done. These groups have written "yay" and "good" and x-ed out the eyes on the hostage posters around campus, which normally only last 48 hours anyways.
However, aside from "river to the sea", I rarely hear chants the involve peace. I've seen, of the weekly protests, exactly one (1) vigil, where the students actually just sat in their space calmly.
I suppose I'm trying very very hard to see the pro-palestinan perspective within the demonstrations and I am having a very hard time finding it through the anti-israeli sentiment.
