Musicart Profiles (03)

Approaching the game's release in Spring 2023, Takt op's official twitter account has periodically releasing the profiles or biodata for the currently released / playable Musicarts. I'm posting this as part 3, and you can look for part 1 and part 2 of this post here too !

— important notes :

First person basis is a term on how to address yourself in first person, widely known in Japanese language has so many words to address yourself in first person such as Erlkönig's yo (a first person pronoun who were used by rulers) and Fantaisie's gensou-chan (a form of name-based first person basis) I have an explanation on each first person basis used here on a twitter thread !

the Musicarts' ages are still a grey area since they're human-like being but not a human at the same time. I speculated that it was the age when they were first awakened as a Musicart, or the age when their human host loses their conciousness and memory before awakened as a Musicart— similar to Anna's awakening as Destiny. (this is a subject to change)

What moves do you think are KCs key strategic moves?

Great grey rock strategy. That's the first one. It the best strategy for dealing with narcissists. His experience with Diana taught him that if you react they win, so he's not reacting.

Glad you asked. This same me writing a post about it. These are the strategies he has used so far:

Over the top glitz and glamour strategy. He's using the same pr strategy he used to improve Camilla's public image: lots of charity work and lots of official events with as much royal glitz and glam as possible. That's why we are getting so many diplomatic events and so many gowns and jewels. That's also why we are getting the biggest, glitziest coronation he can get away with. During the War of the Wales he did a disastrous interview where he tried to open up and be relatable and it backfired miserably. He's not doing that again. He's going to create psychological distance by draping the royals in as much glitz and glamour and tradition as possible. The Harkles can't compare with that.

Divide and conquer strategy. This is what the Lady Hussey meeting was about. During Camilla's pr drive she had a lot of little tea parties with reporters and stakeholders. Many of those reporters (*cough* Rebecca English *cough*) are still fans. It's a tried-and-true strategy (Diana in particular used it well) and it works. The ethnic charities and academics are all going to be heavily courted and they will eventually succumb. The ones that don't give in will be starved of money and attention.

United front. This was also part of the Camilla strategy. Will and Harry were roped into photo ops with Cam and stories were planted in the press saying they liked her and approved the marriage. Stories about how the Queen secretly approved but couldn't do so publicly because of her official role as head of the church also appeared. Everyone was signing from the same hymnbook, just like they are now. Not everyone wore burgundy though. That part is new. The addition of the Middletons and Cam's kids is also new.

Symbolic substitution. Charles knows from painful experience that it's about the role, not the person. The equerries, Sophie's UN work, Colonel Kate, etc... are all about keeping the role alive. Sadly, that's likely why Edward may not get the Duke of Edinburgh title. Because it was held by Philip, the role is symbolically superior to Charles and can't be transferred to his younger brother without implicitly undermining KC's position. The same was the case with the Princess of Wales title. It became symbolically opposed to the Prince of Wales title which is why Cam never used it, even after her popularity increased.

These are the ones he will use in the future:

Pomp and Circumstance. The coronation will be epic. Period. Will and Kate's wedding reinvigorated the institution for a decade and the coronation has to have a similar effect.

Biographies. The coronation will result in an avalanche of books and articles about KC. He will use them to create a new narrative. I'm not sure what that narrative will be because it will depend on what Harry says in his own book. My guess is he will piggyback on Harry's tale of trauma to recount his own childhood trauma and how, unlike his son, he overcame it to become a visionary ruler. Yes, he's going to go for "visionary." He's not humble and he kind of deserves the title because of all his environmental and charity work.

Public validation. This will be done in tandem with the biographies and the coronation, and Harry will unwittingly contribute. Harry's biography will claim that KC was a cold parent who was more concerned with his public role than his family. KC will spin that, with the help of foreign dignitaries, charity leaders, and commentators, into a narrative presenting KC as a devoted (and visionary!) statesman and charity leader. This is the same strategy he used after marrying Cam when we were inundated with stories about "how good she was for him."

Future focused. Harry is stuck in the past, but KC will present a dynamic monarchy focused on the future. That's what Kate's pantsuits, Sophie's fashion, Will's Earthshot project, and the young equerries are supposed to signal. This is the only strategy that I am skeptical about. It's hard to project youth and vigor when you are as old as KC is. However, he's a cunning fox and I'm sure he'll find a way. A vigorous reform platform with strategic changes may be enough. I'm very curious to see what he does about the Commonwealth. He needs to do something big to counteract the damage inflicted by Harry's documentary and he only has like three months to plan.

Evolution of White Knight in RWBY (Volume 7)

Episode 7.1 “The Greatest Kingdom” has a brief, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment. While the group is at Pietro’s pharmacy, Pietro identifies Weiss, which surprises her since she’s never met him before (though she is a bit of a public figure as the Schnee heiress, so it shouldn’t have been that big a surprise). She takes a step back, an action that is mimicked by Jaune, who she is standing nearby.

Episode 7.4 “Pomp and Circumstance” has another brief moment for the two. While Qrow has a talk with Ruby, Weiss can be seen having a conversation with Jaune and Ren. She’s seen standing next to him when the newly minted Hunters and Huntresses are shown the mission board, showing that she’s more comfortable in his presence.

Episode 7.6 “A Night Off” has a callback to Volume 2. Blake and Yang are going clubbing with FNKI and Ruby, Ren and Nora go to Robyn’s victory party, leaving Weiss with one of three options: go with Blake and Yang, go with Ruby, Ren, and Nora, or stay at the academy. None of the options are appealing to her. She has a dislike of Robyn Hill, so she doesn’t want to go to the party and even expresses annoyance that the three are going. She also doesn’t want to go clubbing. Aside from the fact night clubs might not be Weiss’ scene, she’s also annoyed by Blake and Yang’s antics. Jaune and Oscar appear at the doorway, and Jaune asks if anyone wants to go see a movie with him and Oscar. Jaune hasn’t even finished his question before Weiss replies with a “yup!” and goes with them, not even hesitating. This is a callback to Volume 2 when Jaune asked Weiss to the movies, which she turned him down for. While it could be seen as Weiss having no other options, she is still willing to go to the movies with him (and Oscar).

Episode 7.8 “Cordially Invited” has the group along with Ironwood, Winter, Penny, and the Ace Ops at the Schnee Mansion. While Weiss is being held up by her brother Whitley, Jaune comes up with a plan to get Whitley’s attention off of Weiss so that she could do some snooping. It’s interesting to note that it’s Jaune who comes up with this and not Ruby.

So it took me a bit to figure this out, but I've decided to approach this as a general analysis and brief overview from my perspective so you're going to have to forgive me for being a bit rambling lmao

(Cw for discussions of historical gender and misogyny)

One of the things that struck me when doing research that Prussia was, as a nation, pretty weird in its concept of gender. I’ll mostly be focusing on Frederican Prussia here because that has the most meat to chew on and is what I’m most familiar with:

Interpreting Gil as a trans dude (so much as the concept can be applied to an early modern context) puts him in such an interesting position re: the toxic hypermasculine chauvinism of the martial culture of Prussia, and especially the contemporary standards of manhood. Masculinity was a performance and a duty, and within Fritz’ personal circle it was explicitly homosocial, homoerotic, and homosexual — Fritz himself was a raging misogynist to the point he managed to alienate and offend potential allies into turning against him by being a crude and often cruel chauvinist.

It's an interesting point to note that FW1 (Fritz' father) and his brand of extremely austere, no-frills-attached masculinity was, as similar to "modern" misogyny as it is, an aberration for the time. In the 1700s masculinity was - at least in aristocratic circles - very much typified by "effete" homosociality, high levels of personal grooming and pomp, and a personal cultivation of interest in high arts and culture.

It’s that “performance” of masculinity that interests me re: HWS Prussia, and even if he were a cis man I do believe he would be operating under a sense of gender identity that would be foreign and register as “queer” to the modern reader. He’s a soldier so he performs his duty as is expected of him, and I feel like that echoes into the other elements of his identity: gender and sexuality.

Which brings me back to my preference for interpreting him as a trans man within the the context of what he represents and why I find it narratively fascinating and fulfilling — What does this mean for him? Where does Gilbert begin and end within the performance of duty and manhood of his nation? Does he find familiarity within the “effete”, homosocial structure of Frederican era masculinity, or does he prefer the later, stricter gendered lines? He knows he’s not a woman, but what makes him a man?

There’s something to be said about the contrast between the homoerotic manhood of the Enlightenment Era and the homosexual scandals of Imperial Germany but this post has gotten long enough already and I don’t think I’ve really said anything much at all in the first place.

There’s really so much to consider and I didn’t even touch on the neurotic and bizarre gendered fanaticism of the Knights (@makwandis would be a fantastic person to ask about this!), or the recurring Cassandras within Prussian folklore, the interpersonal dynamic of being Ludwig's creator (father, mother, brother), or the delirious genderfuck of the Weimar Republic. Maybe those posts will be written at a later date if people are interested.

From the Valentine candy fic I'm trying to finish:

When one has sat tethered to an unwanted throne for many lifetimes, it becomes incredibly difficult to do so during meetings which should have been written communication.

Despite the fact that Loki has far more patience with bureaucracy than Mobius does, due to decades of enduring Asgardian pomp and circumstance, even he cannot sit for over an hour listening to budget reviews and field op recaps without contemplating opening a Time Door directly below his seat to drop him nearly anywhere but this council room. (Or dropping Judge Neilssen into an apocalypse, whichever would be more effective to achieving the end goal of freedom.)

And while Loki must admit there is a certain well-deserved reward in seeing the adulation of the average TVA agent toward He who catalyzed this new system, even that form of mild worship is not sufficient compensation for having to sit quiet and at least appear to be listening respectfully in these meetings.

That said. After the first meeting in which the council made the tactical error of allowing the two of them to sit next to each other (apparently Mobius does not have the discernment to snicker quietly at Loki’s muttered commentary), they have been duly separated by someone at these things, usually by a longsuffering analyst and sometimes one of the judges.

Loki prefers the human barrier be Judge Willis, because it is quite fun to be a thorn in her side, and he is rapidly realizing they could have been fast friends in another life, another timeline branch. She has a wicked sense of humor and nerves of steel; she reminds him quite often of Sif, in that respect.

She also takes her job very, very seriously, so getting her to crack by any mischief possible in these meetings is rapidly becoming a personal goal.

I've Done It

I rewrote the Sororitas Codex!

Preamble The Adepta Sororitas are near and dear to my heart. They are utterly infamous for having an entire edition pass without a codex. In theory, they are fantastic, and they do add wonderful pomp and flare to the models, but on the OTT they are nothing more than discount Space Marines with Miracle Dice making up the difference. They have no unique wargear, their organization is boring, they aren't allowed to have millennia-old grudges or even supplement Codicies. In the fluff, they are slaves of the Church, when in reality they are Adepts. Adepts are separate but equal organs of the Imperium. Deathwatch: Tyranid Invasion heavily implies it was Guilliman that created the title of Adept, and it would make perfect sense for him to do so. The Sisters of Battle are militant orders, like the Adeptus Astartes. Historically, they would build fortresses, own land, and wages wars on their own. The big difference from Adeptus Astartes is that Astartes are so OP that no one wants to allow any unit to get over 1,000 men.
