hi! thank you! i actually wrote a whole post up about why i think harry is pretty textbook borderline here. (be warned: it’s VERY long, lmao.)
not sure how much i go into his negative character development in this post specifically, but to address that - basically like…a lot of his flawed thinking patterns are emphasized and reinforced throughout hbp and dh in particular (whereas his—albeit very justified—anger in ootp is never something he actually works through and is just written off as a result of voldemort possessing him, for example. so like…he never actually DEVELOPS as a response to this. his anger conveniently disappears when voldemort kills the horcrux part of him). everything regarding the development of his relationship with ginny, his use of dark arts, his impulsive self-sacrificing behaviours - genuinely kind of icky to read, and all framed by the narrative as acceptable, if not good. and don’t get me wrong - characters can absolutely do and believe things that are morally reprehensible without it being an endorsement of those behaviours and beliefs by the author. but that’s not the intention behind hp, at all. it just doesn’t make sense thematically.
anyway the tl;dr here is hp is not well-written, lmao. thematically, the narrative disagrees with itself constantly. most things are very surface-level in a way that might be compelling to a younger audience, sure, but ultimately does a disservice to the characters and the story. as a result, harry suffers from a sort of ambivalence that makes him a very difficult character to meaningfully analyze, imo. (side note that i definitely think from a strictly literary perspective, hp is a very interesting case study in, like, trends that have characterized published works in an era of like. cultural transition from postmodern expressions to post-postmodern ones. but that’s a whole other topic lol.)

obligatory "fuck JKR" but i hate how people act like if you even just mentioning Harry Potter is the same thing as depositing money directly into her bank account. Like yes don't monetarily support a bigot, don't buy the game, don't buy official merch, but there's already a god damned theme park, what real difference is it going to make if someone TALKS about Hp without tripping over themselves to reassure everyone that it is indeed boring lame trash and was never good in the first place. She doesn't make a cent off of other people writing fanfiction or whatever.

Was shocked to learn that antis had effectively banned talking about Severus Snape on r/harrypotter subreddit. As is: all text posts and comments focusing extensively on Snape's character are getting removed by the moderators as is now. The official reason given by mods is "We had noticed that discussions of Snape, James Potter, and Marauders are constantly resulting in lengthy arguments devolving into usage of insults, slurs, groundless accusations of supporting Nazism, personal attacks against other users, as well as targeted harassment of some users outside of this subreddit. Wanting to provide sage experience for everyone, we choose to temporarily forbid any discussion of these characters".
You cannot talk about one of the main adult characters of the series in one of the largest active online fan groups. Just... try to wrap your head around how dystopian it is.

Okay I can’t sleep because I have a Snape rant brewing so I’m just gonna get it out.
(Obligatory disclaimer: I fucking hate JKR. I’m not talking about this out of any love for her or her work, I’m talking about it because people still genuinely think Snape is “morally gray” or “misunderstood” and I can NOT take it)
I know we all have soft spots for the bad guys with tragic backstories but what I can’t get over is that snape’s backstory isn’t even tragic??? It’s not a tale of lost love, like, even a little bit. He didn’t lose Lilly to James because he and James were never competing for her, at least not from her point of view. We have absolutely no indication in the text that Lilly ever saw Snape as a romantic prospect at all. They were childhood friends, that’s it. It’s the “nice guy” incel bullshit all over again. Snape thought he had a right to her affection, thought that the only reason she didn’t love him was because James somehow took that love away, and that is just not how any of this works. He was not entitled to Lilly’s love, ESPECIALLY not when he was a literal wizard N@zi.
Say we have a little white boy and a little black girl. This boy is raised in an extremely racist household, but still becomes friends with the girl because he comes to see her as a person. This makes her the exception, because he knows that black girls aren’t really people. Then these two kids get older and go to school, and while there, instead of realizing that black people are in fact people, the boy digs even more into the racism he was taught. He even joins the junior kkk group at their school! He actively conspires to commit hate crimes, and this continues until he is more than old enough to realize it is wrong. He still sees the girl as the exception to the rule though, by virtue of the fact that she is associated with him. She is his, and that is what makes her different from all the other black kids. The girl hates what she sees in her best friend, but she holds out hope that he could change, despite all her friends constantly reminding her that he’s bad news and he’ll never change. Then one day they fight, he calls her a slur, and she realizes it’s time to let him go. He’s just a racist, and that’s that.
Then, after they leave school, the guy graduates from junior kkk to regular kkk, where he routinely commits hate crimes along with a bunch of other horrible racist dudes. He tries to make sure the girl won’t be targeted, not because she’s a person who deserves to live, but because he still sees her as the one that got away. He still thinks he deserves to have her, and he doesn’t care if her husband and child die, so long as she’s left alive afterward for him to have. Then she dies anyway, and he vows revenge on the members of his little group that did it. He leaves the kkk, not because he has realized that it is wrong, but because they destroyed something of his and so they have to pay.
People act like snape switching sides was a nod to his shifting moralities, like that’s what makes him “actually kind of a good guy, when you really think about it”. He didn’t leave the death eaters because he disagreed with their mission, he left because he wanted revenge for the hurt they caused him. If any of his anger had actually been about Lilly, he would have done everything in his power to take care of Harry once he came to Hogwarts (and no, keeping him barely alive out of a duty to Dumbledore while actively participating in Harry’s abuse in regular day-to-day life does NOT count as taking care of him).
Even if we completely disregard all of the shit with Lilly and the marauders, if we look at snape through the lens of a regular teacher, he’s still a horrible person. He abuses his students for gods sake! That is not and will never be “morally gray”. He is a child abuser, period. He is evil.
People also like to say that his patronus shifting to be the same as Lilly’s is somehow proof that he really loved her, and I just don’t see how that argument can even seriously be made. It proves he wants her, it proves he’s still hung up on her, sure. But you don’t need to love someone or something to just really want them. Honestly, it always seemed to me that it was a sign he was still obsessed with her, still hanging onto his bitterness at “losing” to James. He’s just a pathetic man still living his highschool rivalries through a child who has done nothing to him and didn’t ask to be part of this ridiculous “feud”.
Snape isn’t a case of moral ambiguity. He isn’t a case of a tragically misunderstood antihero. He isn’t a case of “doing the right things for the wrong reasons”. He doesn’t even do the right things at all. Snape is a bad person, plain and simple. He’s not someone you should sympathize with or make excuses for just because “but he really misses the girl he had a crush on in school 🥺”.
In conclusion: Snape didn’t love Lilly, he though he owned her. He is not morally gray in any sense of the term.
I also have SO much I could say about fucking Dumbledore and how telling it is that JKR genuinely tried to present him as a good person (also snape too in that regard) but that’s a whole other post.

If you want a fic that's longer than 5k, I would like half of the money upfront, to make sure I don't get scammed.
If you purchase a fic under 5k, I can write it in 1-2 weeks max. Over 5k, and it will take a lot longer. (precise estimates are hard due to my schedule varying.)
The wordcount you pay for is a minimum. If you commission me for 1000 words, and I write 1200, then you don't need to worry about paying extra. I won't write 900 though, since that'd be shortcharging you.
Since I usually write dark stuff, commissions can be anonymous if you'd prefer!

Obligatory, you can be trans in the game, there is a trans character that’s prominently featured. The goblins aren’t connected to any race other than the points you’ve made up.
The whole suppressing a goblin rebellion plot everyone was calling racist and problematic actually turned out to be an operation where the goblins were framed by the actual antagonists and the goblins were innocent all along. This is revealed later in the game.
I’m sorry your upset. Be better. You embarrass the real members of the trans community by getting upset at a non issue, now speak out against atomic heart funding a terrorist nation attacking a peaceful one, thanks.
Made up? This is a text book case of blood libel. This is a game made by neo nazis that uses the IP of a known antisemite. The goblins are very clearly antisemtic caricatures. The inclusion of a shofar silenced by a non-kosher cheese that references the Fettmilch pogroms of 1612 is included in the game. It is so blatantly antisemtic. Y'all just care more about a dogshit game than jewish lives.
The trans woman character is voiced by an unlisted va that gives her a masculine voice. Her name is SirOna Ryan, aka he she ryan. A friend who hadn't seen her since pre-transition & in years immediately clocked her & recognized her. It's blatantly transphobic. The dev team is also so notoriously homophobic that this is the only queer character in the game. A transphobic caricature of a trans woman.
Supressing a slave revolt is pro slavery. It doesn't matter if the slaves turned out to "be good all along"(also a deeply weird a fucked up narrative in it's own right), it's racist regardless. Y'all care more about this dogshit game than y'all do about racism.
I am a real trans person. I am now officially living in the worst state in the US to exist as a trans person because it is now A FELONY TO BE TRANS IN PUBLIC in my state. If I am openly trans in this state I can be arrested, charged, sent to prison, and if I don't die in prison, will have 0 rights if I make it out of prison. Which I doubt because my government wants us dead. This legislature was lobbied for using money & rhetoric from JKR's campaign for trans genocide.
A town in my state has also just been revealed that its CITY COUNCIL has compiled a HIT LIST agaisnt queer people & their families in that town. These are real world issues that I live with. My life as a trans person is in danger. I'll never be able to start T here, or get a hysterectomy. My friend can't get top surgery now. My little sibling can't get any trans affirming healthcare now either. I can't afford to leave, and even if I could, I would never be able to leave my people behind.
This is what giving the TERF Supreme more money and power does. She is personally funding trans genocide with y'all's money because y'all don't care about trans lives.
I'm an embarassment? You can't even say that too me off anon & with your full chest. I, and every trans person in my state are fearful for our lives more than ever. How long until we start getting rounded up? My state is notorious for how torturous our conversion camps are, I don't want to find out what they'll do to us when they've got us all locked up in prisons, but that is now a very real reality I face.
But y'all don't care about trans lives or jewish lives or BIPOC or any of that. You want to play a bad game & not face any backlash for it. You want to never be confronted with the objective reality of your choices. Y'all could choose to simply never talk about online, but that has never seemed to occur to y'all. I have living family that remembers how bad living under Russian rule is and family living in Poland right now. 37. Promote one of your own “deep cut” fics (an underrated one, or one that never got as much traction as you think it deserves!). What do you like about it?
Ooo this is a hard one. I think maybe my Hunter & Beast series--specifically Weak. I think the prose and atmosphere were pretty in that series. But I also feel like my fandom is not super huge on (at least my) fantasy aus lmfao so it is what it is and it's not like I'm disappointed about it or anything, plus there's a couple people who really did like that one <3
42. Have you ever received a comment that particularly stood out to you for whatever reason?
I have had some incredible comments and amazing, mind-blowing interactions in fandom and I'm so so so lucky for that TT.TT I have a whole folder of saved comments that literally mean the world to me. The two I chose to share are from people who dropped by on a fic and I never talked to again while most others I'm friends with now <3
I had someone say they printed out my entire fic and read it out loud with their best friend. That almost made me cry because reading together out loud is something you do with people you love, and being a part of that kind of love? it really is just amazing to know that what Harry Potter and Septimus Heap were to me with my family, Fairy Bound was to this person with their friend. (and obligatory fuck JKR but nothing can steal the love i shared with the people around me through it)
I also had someone tell me they used my fic in their fucking thesis paper which was mind blowing jdfhal especially fun because it was my first time writing hanahaki fic and their first time reading it
45. What’s something you’ve improved on since you started writing fic?
fuckin,,, believe it or not, grammar and spelling XD especially homophones, though I'm still fucking stUPID and get them wrong.
As for the non-technical side of writing, I think my storytelling in general has just gotten stronger. Things like pacing and plot--those are the things I tend to look back at old fics and wish I could redo now.
49. What are you currently working on? Share a few lines if you’re up for it!
The big one I'm working on right now follows Nick through high school with a focus on fencing. He and Seiji kept an antagonistic relationship rather than becoming friends, and after Kings Row loses state in their freshman year, Seiji transfers to Halverton. It's a mega slowburn enemies to lovers romance with lots of vicious attraction...when we actually hit the romance arc lmfao.
Here's a lil snippet from where I am currently:
“How does it feel,” Nick asked, tossing an arm over Eugene’s shoulders as they sauntered away, “to be the proud son of a certified DILF?”
“How does it feel,” Eugene said, shoulder-checking Nick, “to be the best friend of a future certified DILF?”
“We’ve got to stop saying that word,” Zayn laughed. “It’s starting to sound fake.”
“I don’t think it isn’t fake, technically,” Bobby observed.
