Fandom Problem #4825:'
The only thing that baffles me more than "you can't have technology in fantasy worlds" is all the fans that defend said stance.
It's all down to writing execution. Some writers can pull it off, and others clearly can't. Assuming it's bad writing on the basis of the idea is not always proper criticism.

Fandom Problem #4824:
When a character is the "smart one" of the group mainly because they're the only level head in a group of chaotic idiots--but the fandom (and hell, even later on, the SHOW) takes "the smart one" way too literally and now their entire character is just "this one is the human Wikipedia"

Fandom Problem #4822:
When one person from your fandom / ship has a batshit nuclear bad take that goes sorta viral and becomes a meme due to its sheer stupidity and from now until the end of time any time someone mentions your fandom / ship someone always goes "Ugh those are the guys that are always going around saying [batshit nuclear bad take] don't listen to anything they say 😒" even though the vast majority of us have never said anything close to resembling that.

Re: 4774
Some fans of the relatively wholesome works bully another fandom or one person.

4820: This is why cancel and mob culture sucks donkey balls. It exploits the basic fact that a lot of people are prone to reactionary, knee jerk judgments, which results in them spreading shit without even thinking or fact-checking. Because surely, the outrage is enough to validate a claim! Surely! Brain off, angry hats on, I guess.

4819: That's the Xam'd: Lost Memories "fandom" in a nutshell. There's basically no one at home, lol. The characters aren't amazingly in-depth and there is only, say, one outstanding romantic relationship in the entire show, so in a way, I can understand the lack of fandom. Fandoms are often sparked by the shipping potential of characters. But the creature designs were great and I found the lore, if not incomplete, to be pretty compelling, and I would've loved to see expansions on that.

#4821: This is a valid ask, and I want to expand on something it mentions re: gamification with coins. At first glance, and with the information provided, someone will probably think, "wait, what's wrong with this? It just sounds like tumblr badges". And you'd be right, because that's definitely what it sounds like. But the context is very different. A lot of roleplayers found the introduction of coins as rewards for post count to be a bit gaudy, because the site in question is a roleplaying site, for writing and for writers. There are many styles of roleplaying from one-liner dialogue replies, to novellas and chapter-length epics. Due to this, using post count as a marker for rewarding users was seen as, erm, not particularly balanced, since people who write one-liners can churn out 50 posts a night, whereas people who write novella may post one reply every two weeks. Users who brought this up and asked for a different system that, at least, addressed this distinction, were dismissed outright.
From what I recall, there was a lot of dismissing happening about a multitude of topics, not just this one, but it quickly became clear that the only kind of feedback the developers wanted was affirmative feedback. If they didn't already have something in mind, it wouldn't be on the radar. It was really offensive because they always emphasized how the site would be "by roleplayers, for roleplayers", but their definition of PBP roleplaying (and the styles of roleplaying included under that umbrella) was so narrow, it wasn't really a project intended for the greater roleplay community. It was just a pet project tailored to the preferences of whoever was in charge.
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with making a website and tailoring it like that. ;ut the lack of honesty about what they were trying to do was very gross. It felt like "smile and wave" publicity, and stringing along potential users to boost initial user numbers.

It's fun to create "void" as a "fan work" but it always ends in my own home. There will be people who read wiki article abt a lesser-known work, however, it does still.

Hi! For 4821 about roleplaying, I think op is referring to pbp (play by post) roleplaying which is just writing, unrelated to video games. :)

Fandom Problem #4821:
When a developer starts creating a new roleplay website for fandom people, then almost instantly, it gets run into the ground by puritan nonsense in the rules, gamification, coins that reward people by the post count instead of word count or content, and shitty cliques that attack people for liking certain characters or roleplaying certain ways (which was allowed by the dev within their discord server, despite the "strong emphasis on community and respect" or whatever)... And then, the developer totally ghosts all their blogs and platforms, so all the people who donated money to create the site were SOL and have no way to contact them. Fortunately, I didn't donate any money to that disaster because I'm leery of startups in general, but wow, what a mess

Fandom Problem #4820:
When someone confides in you that they ship a completely harmless het ship, which is canon, but they are too scared to say it anymore because the last time they posted meta on it, neo puritans in their teens sent them death threats for two months and tried to call them a homophobe, because they saw them as a homophobe for not shipping one of the mxm fandom ships. The worst part was, the person DID like that mxm ship- they just had a separate blog fully dedicated to it. But the puritans didn't even see it.

Fandom Problem #4818:
I think one of the things that fandoms need to come to accept that a piece of media isn't always necessarily 'garbage' or just 'written bad'. Sometimes, a piece of media just isn't for you and that's fine. Just because something wasn't to your liking doesn't mean it's not good. This doesn't mean it shouldn't be criticized and given your honest opinion but sometimes you should have more of an open mind than just "I didn't enjoy this so it must be bad!!!"

4811 I agree with the ask, but I also want to agree with someone in the notes, it CAN be very cathartic to get back at an "oppressing" or "privileged" group of people and make them experience everything the oppressed group goes through. In real life, that's shitty to do to someone, but fiction is escapist fantasy, and there is nothing wrong with writing whatever makes you feel good and vindicated. It's truly not that niche either. I watched "I am not an easy man" the other day and LOVED it.

4814 writer here. Oh, they were definitely antis. They had issues with people headcanoning certain things about characters, and writing them in darker scenarios. The accusations of bigotry towards trans people were the icing on top of the cake. I didn't mention that in the post though. Since then, I stopped posting on my own blogs, and have stuck strictly to fic archives, a tiny handful of writer-oriented blogs, and anonymous blogs like this, so at least I don't need to deal with those children as often now. I can confirm it is much better once you jump ship and back way, way off.

Same... Ive gone through so many blogs on here trying to have a fresh start and give fandom another chance hoping if i just "do it right" ill have fun... But the thing is i havent been having fun in like... 8 years. Im only 20 and i remember the 20 year olds i followed back when i was around 12. I know fandom has been on the deline for far longer but atleast i was able to have fun then, bit now i look at the 20 year olds and teens of today and i just feel so... Depressed. Im constantly tired and no one is friendly or fun anymore. I miss the blogs where i could look forward to seeing post everyday and talk to and have fun with... But now everyone is so on edge and even i have trouble interacting with people on my blog or even posting anything cuz its just like "is this going to get me harassed today?" "Is this tame and acceptable enough to not get me harassed?"
Even though i know i shouldnt care its really just me not wanting to deal with unnecessary drama that could be avoided if people werent so stupid
Cant do anything without performative activists threatening to harass you and having the constant fear of what if someone is so deranged that this tiny little insignificant thing will make them decide to doxx me or something...
Ive noticed more and more how empty fandoms feels yknow? Kinda feels like a warzone with a lot of mostly abandoned and broken buildings. A community board here and there, some people loitering about and some hidden places that are really picky about who they let in. And a hell of a lot of soldiers (antis) who will come beat you up if you look suspicious, or they just dont like you for whatever reason... Thats really how it feels and it really sucks.
I want it to be lively like a giant ren faire, packed full of people and art and music and just fun in general. A place where we don't need to have a background check of every person we so much a look at in order to play hopscotch or something with them.
