Based on Giovanni from Night on the Galactic Railroad
Man I hunted for a free pdf of this book for a bit on websites until I figured I could just put night on the galactic railroad pdf into google lmao.
My insert was supposed to be based on the book but I hadn’t read it at that point so repurposed that idea into this little lady lmao.
Don’t really know how to characterise her just yet or much of her story other than she likes collecting trinkets and was probably a funeral director. Also good at making candy, and shaping them into elaborate birds.
I hand wrote all the fucking writing on that and that was a mistake. Why is lettering so hard. I spent so much time on the kanji for her weapons which is Densha (train) for her sledgehammer and Yoru (night) for her crossbow. Courtesy of google translate since I don’t know jack shit about Japanese.
The crossbow is an ego weapon + fragment of the universe aberration ego gift (just colour swapped rn don’t have the actual abno planned out) that she got as a gift from a friend, and no she doesn’t know that they are ego. The accessories she has are all inspired by random stuff in the book.
I’ll expand on my girl eventually I like how she turned out :> and tbh I relate to Giovanni in the book a decent bit.

The Evangelion Annotation Project:
～7 Month Progress Update
First off - I got my library card!! I just made a quick visit to pick it up today, but hopefully in the near future I'll be able to get down there again and make some scans ^_^ I'll have to check with the staff to see about the quantity of material they'll let me scan and whether or not they have equipment I can use to scan the Evangelion Original books without damaging them, but making digital scans is free for library members & legal so long as it's for personal use, so if all goes well I should have some new material to translate soon.
As for what I'll be able to share - to avoid getting in any trouble, I probably won't be posting, like, full untranslated PDFs (although if any individual followers are interested in participating in the translation effort or reading the documents for personal research, feel free to DM me), but I will at the very least share any noteworthy discoveries I make, and I'll certainly use any materials I digitise as complementary documents to the Annotation Project as it progresses. (I'm not morally opposed to filesharing - especially not when it comes to rare and out-of-print works - but I'd prefer not to tread on any risky ground here, considering the Project is already in kind of a grey area re:Fair Use.)
On that note, the translation/transcription phase of the Project is coming along, frankly, well ahead of schedule. Over the past few months, I've found some more efficient OCR software, and also just gotten a bit better at reading the language & recognising the kanji. I'm working on the first half of Episode 24' right now, which leaves <450 pages of afureko scripts (out of approx. 2300 total) left to archive & translate. It's been a little over 7 months since I started the Project, and I think it's safe to say that I should be ready to move into the second phase - collecting auxilliary materials, revising draft translations, and doing the actual Annotation part - before I hit one year.
Finally, to any fellow translators who might be reading - all of the translations I post are in a bilingual layout, so the Japanese source text is right there for anyone who feels like translating parts of it better/differently/into another target language (or just reading it as it was originally written). Ultimately, this is an archival project that aims to preserve, organize, and contextualise various Evangelion-related peripheral source texts that might otherwise become rare or lost media. I'm hardly the first one to try something like this, but with many of the old fansites missing or defunct & many of the original works no longer in distribution - I feel like now is as good a time as any to take a swing at it.

What did you study to get better at anatomy? I know a lot of different artists out there say to study bodies and poses as well as art that you enjoy…but I feel like it’s not adequate. I’ve always enjoyed your human pose drawings and the bobadin drawings of yours to a ridiculous extent, so I thought you would be the person to ask.

To preface, you are witnessing the current iteration of a language I’ve been building for years.
The other folks aren't wrong. Perhaps your dissatisfaction is in the perceived enormity of the task. There is no secret shortcut, but perhaps there are different ways to think about the journey.
Now, everyone approaches art in a different way, for different reasons. To keep the language analogy going, some people learn enough to google translate their way through a trip to another country, some think it’s fun to roll their R’s, some just happened to move here & are figuring it out as they go, still others need to be fluent for work purposes—the potential diversity is limitless. What makes each individual voice interesting however, are the little details about themselves & that which they hold dear that naturally appear in the process of translating the world into the words, tone, and sentence structure people have.
Anatomy is one part of it. Like all “rules” around art and language, you learn enough to know what you’re doing, so you can then play and expand and mess things up with intention.
If I were to give general advice on shit to do:
Find a thing to care about. It’s much more enjoyable if you’re able to be interested in something, ANYTHING, that’s tangentially related to the thing you have to learn
Draw real people who happen to be physically in front of you, because all those books and techniques are cool and everything, but real bodies are all different, and generally tend to deviate from the tutorials.

[Quick note on how I study (esp from tutorials): copy the diagrams in the books, maybe write down 3 things that you noticed from them that you didn’t know before, translate those ideas into application. Most often when I use ref, I have An Idea already in mind of some fictional character situation, and I double-check reference to make sure I’m not far off the mark.]

Going on a dive on youtube for various ways people construct bodies; you may find a way that works for you, or a piece of a thing that you’ll integrate into your own working knowledge
Fixate real hard on some characters who happen to be human, because ho boi fun fucking shit to follow it down the rabbithole. Even now, I am finding new details on Boba Fett that I never noticed before.

At the end of the day, forcing yourself to learn a thing will only make it less enjoyable, so if the goal is “Get better at [Skill]”, the way to get there is to trick yourself into finding things you like on the way to figuring it out. People are just more complicated plants, sometimes we gotta run circles around our brains to sneak something in there.
Also, to manage expectations, it’s not about “Getting Good™ Immediately”, but “to observe and be able to describe one thing better, one piece at a time.” Every single thing in your life, including all the times you aren’t doing art, will bring added depth to your work. Take a moment, look at the sky, flex your hands, shove your face into a cat....

I was the sort of bastard who found diagrams FASCINATING.
Very few of my sketchbook pages were assigned schoolwork; I just did that shit on my own because I had an unhealthy existential dread of being unemployed after school, and I also fucking LOVED learning.
Nothing in here is printed out; I copied things out and studied them, goddamn. I no longer have the patience for this but I’m glad younger!me did.
You can tell I got into Yuri on Ice (above). Those studies are from looking up a youtube video on skating, and pausing the video every few frames to sketch the pose. Also the muscle diagram on the above right is fun because I drew the top black lines part on see-through acetate, which you can flip up. There’s more. There’s so much more. Whatever people see now is the culmination of everything I picked up along the way.
Honestly I definitely forced my own nose to the grindstone wayyyyy too much in college. Think of the person who skips most social events because they’re too busy working, who's perpetually anxious when out on social gatherings because they could be doing work—that was in no way healthy for me, and I never plan on repeating it. I had “motivational” quotes on post-it notes all around my workspace that said toxicly positive things like “think of all the time you spend consuming other peoples’ work, vs. how much time you spend making your own. Only one of those will make you remembered.”
However, I can’t be upset at past-me because I absolutely did the best I could with the coping mechanisms I had, and I’m really proud of him for trying this hard and still being ALIVE at the end of the day.
That’s a page from one of my 2017 sketchbooks; drawing was a stim for me + helped me stay awake in classes, so I’d draw the whole way through.
All sketchbook images above are from my “concentrated learning” phase of 2014-18. Since then I've lowered my own standards and now it’s about the vibes and not the 100% accuracy. Fuck the accuracy, shapes that real humans are can look “fake” or drawn incorrectly if you translate it into 2D. And sometimes it’s some visual prejudice you didn’t realize you had, due to the media you grew up seeing. Maybe some pieces have fucked up anatomy, but I’m not hung up about it (just add a lump when unsure). But yes, this is definitely “keep in mind I have thousands of studies under my belt and thus even if I’m not actively thinking about it, I’ve osmosis-ed enough from the stuff I’ve done previously to make something look like it’s got convincing shapes”. It also doesn’t come out great All The Time! That’s life. You can get here also; just take it in bite-sized chunks, and give yourself plenty of time to rest and go back into your own comfort zone.
I am not trying to make anyone demoralized; this is simply the path I took myself. Sometimes, even if you’ve barely taken three steps, it’s nice to encourage yourself and be proud of making it this far.

The art I am often most drawn to are the ones that tell me something new, often about something familiar. “That’s a line I never thought of using to describe the ears”, “That’s an application of color and texture that I would have never thought of myself but makes SO MUCH SENSE” etc.
I too, have a long ways to go. The rest of my life actually! And what a wild journey that shall be.

Part of him wanted to ask, though he knew that was the stupid part, the hopeful farmboy who picked the worst possible person to care about, who searched for signs in things that he knew deep down meant nothing - when kaz chose him for a job, when Kaz played along with one of his jokes. He could have kicked himself. He's finally seen the infamous Kaz Brekker without a stich of clothing, and he'd been too worried about ending up on a pike to pay proper attention.
ok i got a couple of things to say about this part
first of all it makes me so sad that jes cares so much for someone who dosn't deserve him. because no hate to kaz but they would never work as a couple and kaz already treats him like shit most of the time
i think this part shows who a lot about who jesper really is. a boy that grew up having to hide parts of himself, who thinks he's worth nothing but it's smart and capable, who's loyal and brave and caring but doesn't even know it himself. he's someone who feels he doesn't deserve good things and thinks he's not good enough, and that's why he unds up in all the wrong places with the wrong people. he left uni bc he fell in with the gangs, because he didn't think he was smart enough or even prepared to be in studying in the university. jesper is constantly hiding behind a mask or running from things because he's scared of not being enough
an kaz is everything jes in a way wishes he could be. kaz is secure in himself (at least on the outside), he's stable, he's smart, he's "unshakeable". and most of all, he doesn't care about others (we know that's not true but that's how he presents himself)
and that's the thing that causes jesper all his problems. because he's insecure because he thinks he's not good enough for the poeple or things he cares about. and he's always trying to do what's best for his loved ones: he went to the ice court to pay his debt for his father, he follows kaz everywhere beacause he cares about him, he offered to read to wylan (knowing it wouldn't be easy for him to be still that long).
and yeah it often doesn't work out becuase he's messy and he has problems but he tries. and he hates that. he hates that he cares so much about people because at the end of the day, that's what makes him feel like he's not good enough
one more thing and i'm done i promise
unpopular opinion but i love that leigh made jesper have a crush on kaz. 1 beacuse it's refreshing to see someone not get otgether with his first crush. and 2 because i love that it shows that we sometimes get attached to people that are not good for us, but that we can learn to move on. jesper ended with wylan who respects him and values him, unlike kaz

Do you have any recommendations on how to get into Egyptian mythology? I’ve been wanting to for a while but I don’t know what websites to use or what books are out there
oohh this is a good question!
uhmm i don’t really know any resources personally, because i got exposed to Egyptian mythology when we learned it in school, so my knowledge is basically what i learnt then, and what i’ve learnt from talking to people on this blog...
so, if anyone has any good resources for getting into Egyptian mythology, maybe you can reply/reblog this post and help out ^-^
everyone always recommends Overly Sarcastic Productions as a good introductory source into mythology, so here’s their videos related to Egyptian mythology which i haven’t watched myself, but i hope they help you :)
EDIT: if you think you're up to some more heavy reading, i've gotten some links to pdf versions of the Ancient Egyptian texts.
you can read about the different ones, and a summary of what they're about here
this one is specifically about the Eye of Horus, but it goes through the "spells" used in Ancient Egypt, providing an english translation of it, and what it meant
and this link will take you to a site that has a pdf copy of the Pyramid Texts, and if you scroll down to the "more free ebooks" section, there are other interesting pdfs relating to the Ancient Egyptian texts
DISCLAIMER: most of these texts are like pre-2000, which means that they're not really up-to-date, and are most likely biased. but they're still extremely useful in learning about the culture for people who are reading as a hobby.

sadness over a3! eng i guess
oof just on my 700th day.....
kinda sad because of the announcement about A3! ENG server shutting down soon due to financial difficulties at LIBER/CYBIRD in the past two years (covid-19 related, etc.). according to a rather in depth reddit comment that had links to LIBER's publicly available financial reports + some financial reports from LIBER's parent company, Aeria, in english, covid-19 really hit LIBER hard since they had to cancel many money making events, from pop-up shops for the typical anime merch trinkets (keychains, plushes, pins, etc.) to the huge in-person events (voice actor meetups, the stage plays of MANKAI LIVE, etc.). due to shrinking player base on the ENG server + major loss of profits on both JPN and ENG servers, LIBER had to choose one or the other and they chose the JPN one, which i totally understand since it's way bigger there and the JPN fanbase will continue to give the franchise money more often. also, another person found a financial report/estimate from the google play store or something, and A3! ENG only made ~$20K to ~$10K in the past few months, which i guess is not enough to keep a server and localization company afloat.
i got pretty attached to the characters and it was a great game to help get by during college. and honestly, while i am very sad about this, again, i understand why LIBER did this, looking at their financial report from 2020. I would LIBER save the entire franchise rather than shut all the servers down, making us all unable to see our favorite actors ever again, even if it means that we ENG fans will have to go thru the extra steps of finding/reading fan translations, wikis, etc., to read any further stories from where A3! ENG left off.
still, A3! ENG's localization was something special. i'm saying this as a TKRB JPN player who read the wiki for all the character voice lines and then had to see the official TKRB ENG localization make Yamabushi Kunihiro a rapper for some reason? lol. it was....weird.... meanwhile, all the memes and slang in A3! ENG didn't seem out of place and all fit their personalities because 3/4 of the troupes were all high school to college age and 3 of them were ~Gamers~. Out of all the gachas i've played, i feel like the only other F2P gacha game that had this incredibly smooth, all cultural jokes/puns translated in a way that still makes sense/fits the character/doesn't require a galaxy brain and some TL note to understand, is probably dragalia lost and that's only because it has frickin Nintendo localizing/publishing it globally for CyGames. Nintendo. i'll eventually read the fan translations of A3!'s Act 3 on the wiki, but it won't be the same without Kazunari's super high-energy influencer slang of "'whoa fam! that's totes 'blammable, gotta take a pic!" or Itaru's gremlin Gamer speak of "lol get rekt noobs" or Tsuzuru's tired dying breath of "that ain't it chief." the appropriate slang and relatable meme speak of the localization really helped humanize these characters as people of their respective ages, rather than just a typical formal speak or some directly translated JPN slang -> ENG that turns out super awkward that can be found in bad localizations.
going back to the reddit comment too, the death of A3! ENG servers could have bad repercussions in the future for other joseimuke games. josei, if you for some reason have been in the anime fandom but still don't know this term, is basically the genre of stories/video games/media/etc aimed at women. it's the mature adult counterpart to seinen, media aimed at adult men. basically shoujo/shonen = elementary/middle school/high school aimed while josei/seinen = high school/college/adult aimed if that helps.
Joseimuke is a part of josei that is not specifically romance. while some josei/joseimuke can overlap with otome, aka female aimed dating sims/romance media, they have many things about them that make these all separate genres. one of the official A3! ENG translators and a known fan translator of another joseimuke gacha, Mahou Yaku/Wizard’s Promise, minami, goes more in depth with this in a twitter thread.
A3! was an actor raising game, and a big part of it was found family and relationships that were platonic. yet it got advertised as an otome, which has more connotations with dating sims and brings to mind other shoujo/otome games and anime where the cast is all high schoolers and the setting is most often in a high school. but, other than some characters making flirty jokes or implied to have crushes on Izumi/player character, many character relationships with Izumi are platonic and not romantic at all. Spring Troupe in the game also jokingly calls themself a family. the entire Mankai Company is basically found family. plus, since the game actually has time passing in story and the characters age with each year, half of the characters aren’t even in high school anymore. a large majority of them are in college or are graduated by now, with only a few still in high school. i’m not surprised if a reason that some people left the game was due to feeling bored with the slice of life/not romantic story, feeling that they were lied to about it being an otome, which was falsely advertised since it is a game meant for the older teens/adults demographic of josei/joseimuke.
i’m worried that other japanese companies will look at this shut down as a “josei/joseimuke doesn’t work well in the west” and never localize other josei/joseimuke gacha games like Mahou Yaku, EnStars, Twisted Wonderland, Helios, etc.
while i like otome and shoujo, i, as a 23/soon to be 24 year old college graduate and now tax paying adult, want more stories that have more mature themes and characters that are more my age so i don’t have to feel awkward when i’m playing some dating sim and i, a literal 23 year old adult, and trying to woo a 16 year old. it’s...a little awkward to say the least. i would gladly welcome more mature media that is categorized as josei/joseimuke.
sorry if this is all over the place, but overall im just sad that A3! ENG is shutting down. i don’t know if i’ll join the JPN server yet. i’m def going to read the Act 3 story via fan translators on the wiki, but A3! gameplay was...boring lmao. as much as i love A3!, im sure that the constant event grind/burnout and boring rng gameplay turned people off too and i dont blame them. i felt the burnout bad since i participated in basically every event since day 1. it. is. rough. i’m not joining the hellish thunderdome that is the JPN server and im not ranking anymore as a F2P player lmao. literally had to play almost every waking free moment to get into the 30%-20% bracket as a F2P person and i never got to top 20%-10%, much less top 1% lmao. i’m don’t whale enough lol.
i feel like i should probably just. crack open my genki 2 textbook and uhhh totally legal pdf copy of tobira. so i can just. get the JPN version of games in the first place so i don’t have to worry about getting shafted since overseas fans are often considered expendable.
i wish that, when any games that are online end, gacha or mmo or anything, anything online, companies will let fans archive things. or like. release a book that is just the story text or something. like. CYBIRD is letting us still technically play the game and have the story and all, but what if they eventually later shut everything down? why not just release a pdf/ebook that’s just the text of the eng localization for some money? i’d buy it. for nostalgia and rereads and all and also archiving purposes. i think i’ll try to help with any english localization archive projects if i can so that the hilarious and incredible localization that was a work of love from the translation team doesn’t just disappear forever.

that’s it for now. as i said, guess i’ll head to the app for one of the last times to read the last unread stories and mini stories i have left, then the wiki for Act 3, and then i guess i’ll crack open genki 2 and bunpo.....

Sakura sighed and rolled her neck. She cupped her shoulders at the base of her nape and pulsed a bit of healing chakra.
She was spending too many evenings at her desk looking over the data for the children in the institute. The caregivers were very thorough with their reports and while that relieved her it was also more work for her to get through every day.
It was only a year and a half since she had opened up the institute and while she was no longer in the experimental stage of the program, everything could still be hectic. The hardest part had been finding the caregivers and doctors for the children—people that understood that they weren’t treating soldiers.
The research and paperwork that she had poured over had been atrociously lacking, not only for children but adults as well. It was disgustingly obvious that the only insight to mental health that Konoha had was in the use of torture and interrogation. With Ino’s help, the two of them picked apart all of the data until they could find anything useful.
Luck was on Sakura’s side that the Yamanaka clan already had an understanding of how the mind operated. Due to the nature of their family jutsu and the young age of which their shinobi clansmen trained, there was a foundation she had to work with.
Speaking of the Yamanaka family jutsu, Ino was insistently sending her messages to go home. Her voice wheedled in Sakura’s mind and nagged at her.
A hot bath, warm food, and her bed sounded lovely. She knew that all she needed was to head home and her mom would have all three ready for her.
Locking the stacks of unfinished documents into a cabinet, Sakura began her nightly clean up routine. For the past year she used to stay holed up in her office until everything was completed but due to the person sleeping on her office’s couch at the moment, Sakura had stopped working overnight.
Stifling a giggle, Sakura crouched down on her toes and brushed Sasuke’s hair out of his face. He had grown out his forelocks into bangs that fell over his rinnegan and while the look suited him, sometimes she missed seeing his face in full.
Sasuke had taken to sleeping in her office, complaining that there was always some sort of disturbance at his apartment. She had teased him about it, stating that he just missed her. He hadn’t replied to her verbally, but chose to show her how much he missed her once they got back to his apartment.
Blinking his eyes, Sasuke woke up the second time Sakura ran her fingers through his hair. The corners of his mouth twitched upwards and he sat up, pulling his legs back from over the arm of the loveseat.
“Are you going to walk me home, Sasuke-kun?” Sakura asked, continuing to run her fingers along his hair, scratching lightly at his scalp.
Sitting up, Sasuke stretched his arm over his head. “You’re not coming over?”
Heat traveled up the back of her neck and she cleared her throat in discomfort. “I don’t think that’s a good idea. It’s late and I’m still in trouble with Mama from last time I accidentally slept over. You know how she is about premarital relations━don’t you laugh at me!”
Sasuke turned his head away from her but his shoulders slightly shook, giving himself away. He had walked her home and sat with her as her mother lectured her and Sakura insisted that she had fallen asleep while working on paperwork. Haruno Mebuki hadn’t bought the story.
“Come here,” Sasuke asked softly, patting the space between his legs. Sakura shrugged off her lab coat and let it fall to the floor before settling on the couch between his legs. She laid back so her back was against his chest and her legs laid across the cushions. Sasuke’s leg closest to the edge slipped off the couch to accommodate her.
“Kakashi sent a scroll for you,” Sakura told him as he settled his chin on her shoulder and wrapped his arm around her waist. “He figured out your hiding spot.”
“Not really a hiding spot. Where else would I be?”
“Right…” Her voice trailed softly as her cheeks bloomed with heat.
Sasuke had been back home for months and Sakura still wasn’t used to him speaking to her or of her in such a way. It was one thing for her to just know that he enjoyed her presence and took comfort in it by his actions, it was another when he voiced it out loud and confirmed it.
The words were never direct but her heart translated them into a different phrase.
Taking her right wrist, Sasuke rolled it in a circular fashion, stretching the joint and pressing his thumb along the inside, massaging the flesh there.
“You wrote a lot today.” His voice was low against her ear, his breath warm and causing her to shiver. Sakura hummed and nodded, not trusting her words, as he continued to trail his fingers up her arm.
Sasuke stroked at her skin until he reached the back of her nape and he cupped Sakura’s neck and massaged it with his strong fingers. He rolled the base of her neck in his hand and Sakura felt the warm sensation of chakra pulsing from his hand and soothing out the knots as he continued to add pressure with his thumb and fingers down her shoulders.
“You’re getting better at that,” Sakura moaned in relief. “You’ve been studying.”
“Just a bit.”
Sakura didn’t need to see his face to know there was a smirk on it; she could hear the smug undertones in his voice. It filled her with joy when pieces of the young Sasuke revealed themselves in this older version of him.
“Turn around.” The order was whispered but it beat loudly in Sakura’s chest right next to her heart.
Sex still felt new, despite the two of them getting into it whenever the opportunity presented itself. Sasuke’s voice, husky and desperate in her ear, caused her as much nerves as it thrilled her. They were still learning what made the other tick, what touches were more desired.
She decided that she liked the way she felt in Sasuke’s hand. His skin was deliciously warm and the friction from calluses and scars from the nicks from holding shuriken created a pleasant sensation when his hands roved over her soft skin.
He pushed into the flesh of her back, soothing her muscles with his thumb and kneading with his fingers.
“That would be easier if my shirt was off.” Sakura licked her lips and hoped Sasuke took the hint. “And much easier if I was lying on my stomach.”
“Since when have I ever done things the easy way?”
Sakura whimpered when he removed his hand from under her sleeveless top, missing the heat that radiated from his palm. Sasuke took hold of her chin with his thumb and index finger and tilted her face up so he could press an open mouthed kiss to her lips. When he tried to pull away Sakura pressed forward, straddling his lap and wrapping her arms around his neck.
Her skirt bunched up around her hips and Sasuke’s hand went to her left thigh and caressed the flesh there. Sakura hummed in delight as the soreness from standing all day for observations drifted away with his soothing touch.
She yelped when his hand slid between her legs and he began to massage a new ache. Her hands tightened their grip on his hair and she rocked her hips against his hand.
They had never done something like this anywhere outside of his apartment. Their intimate moments were limited to the walls of Sasuke’s new home and that had been just fine with them until an annoyance kept ringing at the door.
Naruto had been late in discovering their relationship. He had whined because he felt that they had owed it to him to let him know when they had finally gotten together because he was their best friend. He had not been happy to find out that Sai and Ino had known before him.
“I told you first about Hinata!” He had whined to Sakura and Sakura didn’t have the heart to tell him that it didn’t count because if he hadn’t shared his feelings with her then he probably wouldn’t have gotten a chance to be married.
It wasn’t the same for her and Sasuke. Naruto’s interference was likely to impede any progress in their relationship. He would have kept trying to get involved and would have interfered with their alone time.
“What are you doing?” Sasuke asked as she dipped her hands inside his waistband. He quirked an eyebrow up in amusement as she began to stroke him.
“Doing some massaging of my own.”
Sasuke groaned in distaste, sliding down the couch so that he was lying on his back. “That was really bad.”
“And yet you’re still hard,” Sakura snapped, tugging down his pants to free his member.
“Your cheesiness has no effect on what your hands are doing.” Sasuke’s lips curled upward as Sakura increased the tightness of her hold and the speed of her strokes. “You’re getting better at that. Have you been studying?”
“Shut up!” Sakura burst into a peal of laughter at his teasing. “Are we really doing this in my office?”
“Say the word, I’ll do just about anything to you on this couch.” Sasuke gritted his teeth, stopping a moan from escaping. “Especially if you keep that up.”
“Give you a handjob and you lose all sense of shame, huh?” Sasuke narrowed his eyes at her as he reached between her legs again and then pinched her clit. Sakura jumped a little, squeaking from the shock.

She traced them as Sasuke pounded her into her office’s couch and she cried out incoherent words of gratitude that none of the old wounds kept them from having their current moment.
Sasuke exhaled a laugh against the crook of her neck as she came down from her high. “Did you just thank me for your orgasm?”
“No!” Sakura’s face grew even hotter and she slapped Sasuke against his chest. He just continued to laugh silently as his hips moved against hers.

Sakura covered her face with her hands, trying to hide from the embarrassment. The action had Sasuke stilling his hips and moving her hands away from her face. He interlocked his fingers with her left hand and pressed his forehead to hers.
“Don’t hide from me,” he muttered, red eyes boring into hers. His tomo swirled as a particularly rough thrust in the new angle had Sakura tensing and crying out for more. Sakura wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him close for a kiss, swallowing his moan as he spilled inside of her.
Sasuke collapsed against her and Sakura’s left leg dropped so that it was dangling off of the couch. Sakura’s fingers sank into his thick hair and she massaged his scalp, her nails drawing curlicues.
“How did I end up being the only one that actually got fully naked again?” Sakura grumbled as Sasuke tucked himself back into his pants, barely moving his body away from her. “How do you keep doing that?”
Sasuke simply shrugged and nuzzled closer to her, crushing her chest to his. They lay like that, listening to the way the clock on the office wall clicked the seconds in tandem with their heartbeats. Sakura knew she had already pushed past the acceptable time to return home without her mother assuming she and Sasuke were playing house.
“I want to wake up with you again.” Sasuke’s voice was low but his breath fanned against Sakura’s neck and shoulder.
“Yeah?” Sakura breathed out the question, feeling the way Sasuke nodded his head against her shoulder. “I love you too, Sasuke-kun.”
He didn’t protest the way she had stated her love as if it was a response to his own. Sakura’s chest grew warm at the way Sasuke wrapped his arm around her and held her closer.
Someday, Sakura thought as she pressed a kiss to Sasuke’s temple. Someday I’ll have all the mornings with you.

New framework seems to have performance issues
This version of ABP for the new Safari framework unfortuantely seems to kill performance on my computers. Maybe it’s partially related to them being a bit older (one is a Mid 2011 Mini, the other is a 2012 iMac), but with ABP enabled I can’t even open a new tab/window and type a URL into the bar and expect Safari to accept the input without having to hold down the return key until it goes or wait a minute after opening a new tab or window. I also noticed that using Twitter was jumpy and lagged even with simple typing, it felt like all the dynamic content it relies on was just struggling to be processed through whatever framework Apple is forcing. Hopefully the devloper can figure out the performance issues because it’s really, really bad now.

why isn’t this working?
I have ABP and it wasn’t perfect but worked fairly well for my needs. Recently, it simply disappeared. (I see someone else said that could be from the latest iOS update, but I don’t have that on my desktop yet). When I tried to reinstall, it showed me two boxes to check. The way I read it, if you checked the box that said you wanted the icon visible in the toolbar, it would be able to read sensitive information of all kinds on any page. What good is an app of any kind that allows for that?! As it was, with only the one box checked, it only blocked very few ads, and I was still getting requests from sites to be whitelisted without being able to fnd any way to do it. I’ve got all kinds of garage showing up on my Facebook page, and you guys have ruined what was a reasonable product. WHY?

Still works for me
Almost didn’t download the new version based on the recent reviews, however after looking at the other apps here that claim to be ad blockers I didn’t’t see too many alternatives. I decided to go ahead and get the new version and so far its pretty much the same as the old version, lots of ads blocked. I’m happy, just make sure you go through the simple set-up.

Works well but
After much research, I understand the issue with Apple changing the rules on the devs so they had to build this app from scratch. Works well for me so far, except for one annoying problem. I use Yahoo mail and it's not hiding the ad that appears in the top line of the inbox even with unchecking the Acceptable Ads box, which is super annoying. I know the devs are watching these reviews, so if someone can point me to an extension or something that will fix that, I'd appreciate it. Was using AdGuard and it fixed that problem, but that app behaves like spyware and is constantly running in the background even after you close Safari.

Magnets from Lightning
One of the first steps Senku takes to make sulfa drugs for Ruri is to generate electricity using strong magnets. Senku and the gang used the magnetic rocks that Chrome had found in order to collect iron sand, but these magnets aren’t strong enough to generate the electricity that Senku needs.
This post is pretty dang long because magnets and magnetism are So Much, so the rest is under the cut.
For strong magnets, made in Ch 24-25, Senku references the work done by NASA scientist Peter Wasilewski, who conducted experiments on creating magnets with lightning. These experiments were conducted in areas of the USA with lots of lightning activity, like in New Mexico.
(They spelled his name wrong in the translation haha)
Lodestones
You’ve probably heard of these before, the naturally occurring magnets often used in ancient times for early navigation. They were also used in Dr. Stone to collect iron sand from the river. Lodestones are made of a mineral called magnetite, which is made of iron and oxygen (Fe3O4) and is the most magnetic of all naturally occurring minerals on earth. However, while ordinary magnetite is attracted to magnets due to being full of iron, it doesn’t usually get magnetized itself due to its low magnetic coercivity (how well it can stay magnetized).
There’s actually another mineral found in lodestones called maghemite (cubic Fe2O3) along with other impurities of metal ions. The maghemite hecks up the crystalline structure of magnetite so that its magnetic coercivity is high enough to stay magnetized and become a permanent magnet.
So where does lightning come into play? Well, how do these rocks get magnetized in the first place? Permanent magnets are made when an object gets exposed to an external magnetic field and then stays magnetized. The Earth’s magnetic field isn’t strong enough to magnetize a lodestone on its own, and lodestones are found at the Earth’s surface, usually in high and exposed places, rather than anywhere deep underground, so the leading theory is that these rocks become magnetized after being struck by lightning bolts, which have strong magnetic fields surrounding them.
Wasilewski’s Lightning Experiments
Wasilewski found evidence of this theory by experimenting with zapping rocks with lightning. It’s a little similar to the story of how Ben Franklin drew lightning by flying a kite out in a storm with a metal key attached, but instead of a kite and key, Wasilewski used a small rocket attached to a long (like 3 miles long) metal wire. The other end of the wire was attached to a box with a sample of unmagnetized magnetite inside.
When the rock was struck (I’m assuming the rocket attracted lightning and got hit, and all the electricity from the lightning flowed through the wire to the box), it was exposed to the lightning bolt’s strong magnetic field, and when the lightning and its field went away, some residual magnetism, or remanent magnetization, was left in the rock, enough to pick up some paperclips at least.
Back to Magnets
What makes something magnetic? The answer takes you down into subatomic space with electrons and their “spin”. An electron’s spin can only be in one of two states: its magnetic field pointing either “up” or “down”. The way the electrons spin is the main source of ferromagnetism (the kind we’re dealing with right now). When enough electrons have their spins pointing in the same direction, and more than the number of electrons spinning the other way, this adds up to a larger magnetic field. Iron is one of the elements that has enough electrons spinning one way than the other, so it’s attracted to magnets and can also be magnetized.
(There’s some more complicated stuff about electrons and magnetism, but this post is already getting super long so we’re skipping that.)
Copper Wire
So what’s the copper wire for? Copper is a nonmagnetic metal, so why does Senku wrap the iron in it?
I haven’t found any direct answers to this question yet, but my best guess is that Senku is making use of Ampere’s Law, Faraday’s Law of Induction, and/or Lenz’s Law so that the magnets will be polarized properly. This is based on how, when Kohaku held the magnets such that they repelled each other, the coil marks on the bars were going the same direction.
And when the magnets attracted each other, the coils were going in opposite directions.
Ampere’s law describes how a magnetic field can be created inside a coil of wire when the wire has a current running through it. The magnetic field inside the coil would go in one direction, depending on the direction of the current through the coil. This is how electromagnets work. The electric current for Senku’s copper coil probably came from the lightning, and the lacquer coating the iron bar would probably then be to insulate the bar from the coil so that the current would only run through the coil. The iron bar inside the coil would then be exposed to a magnetic field that, along with the lightning’s own magnetic field, would be enough to magnetize the iron bar.
Faraday’s law has to do with how changes to the magnetic environment of a coil can induce a voltage (and thus produce electricity) in the coil. Both the iron bar and the wire were exposed to the lightning bolt’s magnetic field, and there would definitely be a couple big changes to the magnetic environment of the wire with how lightning comes and goes in a literal flash. The induced current from the lightning’s magnetic field could also contribute to the stuff in the previous paragraph.
Lenz’s law determines the direction or polarity of the induced current in the coil, from Faraday’s law. Whatever direction the change in the magnetic field that induced the current was going, the current will run so that the magnetic field inside the coil will go the opposite direction. For example, if you push the north end of a magnet into a coil of wire, then the magnetic field in the coil produced by the induced current in the wire will point out of the coil, in the opposite direction that the magnet is moving.

(Additionally, I think this law is also related to the remanent magnetization of the iron bar after getting zapped. The magnetic field of the iron bar would then be opposite of the field that magnetized it. I’m only about 80% sure though, since I can’t find where in my sources I might’ve read this. But it makes sense with conservation of energy and stuff, right?)
Combining all this together probably adds up to establishing polarity in the iron bar, and the handy marks from the coil would indicate which way the poles are facing.
As for the actual use of copper, copper material gets really funky around changing magnetic fields. While copper on its own isn’t magnetic, it can become temporarily magnetized in little sections, via electrical eddy currents, close to where a magnetic field is passing by or otherwise changing. You can see this when dropping a magnet down a copper tube, where the magnet falls in slow motion as the induced magnetic field from the copper tries to repel the magnet and its descent. Maybe this is important for magnets, too.

Eyrbyggja Saga Prompts Week 9
Welcome to Week Nine of Eyrbyggja Saga! This week (Nov. 30th 2020) we’re reading chapters 46-51, as laid out in Hermann Pálsson’s translation. This week’s section starts off as follows:

1. What might the author be attempting to convey with Thorgerd’s reaction to Bergthor’s death wound? How is this subtle hint different than how the author depicts Thorodd and Thurid’s relationship in Chapter 47 and why does Snorri have to clean up the mess? As a refresher—Thorgerd is the wife of Thormod, the elder brother of Bergthor.
2. The Icelandic Commonwealth was subject to Summon Days, where lawsuits were heard, and administrative matters attended to in one of the 4 (and later 5th) Quarter courts.
Do you find this system helpful in settling the compensation disputes after the Battle of Vigra Fjord in which every man dead canceled each other out? Are the laws depicted as preventing crime or settling the aftermath and can this be related to the honor-system and the independent fighting spirit so sought after in the sagas? How do you feel about one man’s death being compensation for Thorleif Kimbi’s suffered assault?
3. Let’s see…what did we learn in Chapter 49! Christianity comes to Iceland as everyone knows in 999/1000 C.E. after a very interesting debate! Iceland practices proprietary churches in which private land could be converted into a place of worship wherein the owner of the land gained proprietary profits! Well…obviously, the conversion was not as simple as that, but I’m curious to see what y’all know about the conversion of the Icelandic Common-wealth and what might have been the incentives to convert!
Some readers have highlighted the importance of conversion and power in previous prompts, but what is to be gained and what is to be lost? Why convert after all this time?
Bonus points if you can name the three “exceptions” demanded by the Pagan worshippers of the island before they converted! As always, there will be article links related to this featured below for the curious.
4. It is the lady of the hour, the one you have all been waiting for! Thorgunna is a famous figure in Old Norse scholarship, but who really is she? This isn’t the first witchy woman we’ve encountered, but what clues does the author gives us that might demarcate her as “witchy,” or “other,” compared to other characters? What foreshadows her demise, and is her awakening comparable to Thorlief Twist-Foot as a kind of Christian draugr?
5. Why does Thorgunna feel the need to appear before the farmers, and what is she doing besides fixin’ the weary coffin-bearers a nice little snack? What cultural lesson is learned with the burning of the clothes?

My latest article for Wired was about the Archive of Our Own and how fans are better than tech at organizing information online. (Plus: a delightful coda.) Excerpt:
On AO3, users can put in whatever tags they want. (Autocomplete is there to help, but they don’t have to use it.) Then behind the scenes, human volunteers look up any new tags that no one else has used before and match them with any applicable existing tags, a process known as tag wrangling.
Wrangling means that you don’t need to know whether the most popular tag for your new fanfic featuring Sherlock Holmes and John Watson is Johnlock or Sherwatson or John/Sherlock or Sherlock/John or Holmes/Watson or anything else. And you definitely don’t need to tag your fic with all of them just in case. Instead, you pick whichever one you like, the tag wranglers do their work behind the scenes, and readers looking for any of these synonyms will still be able to find you.

Do you have any tips for making a blanket and creating a pattern form a picture?
Hi, friend! Thanks so much for your patience in my reply (I know I’m not the best with prompt responses)!
I should preface this with saying that I have never drafted a pattern for something as large as a blanket, so if any other knitters have more applicable tips, I’d love for them to weigh in! I realize that you’re asking specifically for tips on working from a picture, but I figure I’ll share my little bits of experience in pattern drafting overall, in hopes that it will be helpful and not overwhelming. This got way longer than I was anticipating, so I’ve added a readmore to hopefully spare everyone’s dash.
Okay, tips!
Give yourself permission to make mistakes! As with all things in skilled crafts, mistakes will happen. Taking something from your brain and making it a tangible thing can be really, really hard. Expect that mistakes and frogging will happen. Embrace it as part of the process! Delight in your mistakes and what you’ve learned from them!
Start with a picture! (Which, I know you already implied you’re doing. In the case of not having a picture of a finished object) it really helps to have something visual to refer back to when you get lost, stuck or overwhelmed. Even if it’s just a doodle in a notebook that no one else will ever be able to fully understand, having that end goal as something you can see really helps!
Chart! Taking your vision and breaking it down into the technical points before you even begin can be a really great way to set a path for yourself. I, personally, am a big fan of stitchfiddle for charting. The website has a watered-down version of charting that works well enough, or a premium version you can pay for if you get really into the charting. There are also nifty apps that exist for knitting that can be super helpful too! For example, Conligata and KnitCompanion!
Google stuff! So far, every time I’ve gotten through the charting process, I’ve realized that my pattern will call for techniques that maybe I can’t do in my sleep. That’s when I jump to the internet and go searching for technique and tip tutorials to refine the details of what I’m about to make.
Ask for help! I’ve found knitters are fantastic people that are here for the love of the craft, and are always ready to jump in and share what knowledge they possess, should a question arise. Ravelry is a super fantastic source of support in their forums! Having one on one support can sometimes be the most helpful thing. Tutorials are great, but sometimes our needs get a little more specific than what tutorials can offer.
Draft! Once I have all my theoretical components laid out, I like to then write myself an actual pattern to start with. It doesn’t have to be pretty, it doesn’t even have to be anything more than scribbles in a notebook. Just a something that I know I can follow, again, to give myself a path and a plan.
Swatch! I realize swatching is not everyone’s favorite thing to do, but it really can be so helpful! Not just for obtaining gauge, but for refining and practicing techniques before jumping into the Big And Scary of actually doing the project itself. Swatching is what gives me 99.9% of my confidence in knitting. (The other .1% is probably dumb luck, for reference)
Write down everything you do! Especially as you’re doing it! Sometimes when you realize that mistakes have been made, having the written down pieces can be the best way to measure where you went wrong. It also gives you a reference point of all the things you did right when you try go to write your pattern down later to use again.
Revise! Once you have successfully made your pattern (yay!!) celebrate your victory, of course, but make sure you take the time to go back and write everything back out neatly into something that you can follow again to recreate your success! Include the notes you made to make sure you don’t repeat mistakes!
If you’re writing the pattern with the intent to publish
Reach out for test-knitters! The best way to make sure your pattern is user friendly to as many people as possible is to share it with others! Asking other knitters to test knit before publishing and inviting dialogue for what reads well and what doesn’t can be crucial for making sure your vision can be recreated by anyone.
Accept criticism! Remember the goal here is to make your pattern accessible. Sometimes, despite my best intentions, I know the thing in my brain may not always translate to the page as well as I intended. It can be tough, but I like to remind myself that the criticism from my test knitters is also well intended; it helps polish my finished pattern!
Draft again! Take everything you’ve learned, all your knowledge and wisdom of this pattern, and lay it out nice and neat for the whole world to follow. I usually like to use Google Docs for this (and all my drafts, really), because it’s free, they have templates you can follow (or make your own!), and they can be converted into share-friendly PDFs.
Publish that baby! Release your brain child into the world! Again, I am a big fan of Ravelry for just about everything knitting related, and publishing is no exception to that.
