Excited for any superhero projects?
Hi Anon! I am, yes. Off the top of my head, in terms of things coming out in the future, I’m very much looking forward to the Thunderbolts movie. And you have good timing because I was just thinking about the Thunderbolts movie yesterday. What If? season 2 looks like it could be very fun, and I’m tentatively looking forward to Avengers 5 and 6. Depending on if they treat the characters well of course- I can’t take another mess like Endgame. Will fully admit that if they let me see Natasha, Wanda (main Wanda, none of this rumored multiverse nonsense), Pietro (ditto), Tony, Steve (an actual in-character version please), and/or Loki again, bring Jane back as a Valkyrie, or write Thor well I might be willing to forgive a lot though.
I’m also pretty excited for Armor Wars since I love Rhodey, though admittedly that excitement took a bit of a hit when I saw the relevant Secret Invasion spoilers. Blade as a character isn’t really my jam, but I am looking forward to seeing Dane Whitman again in that movie, especially as Black Knight, so I’m gonna list that too. And I’m very curious about the Agatha tv show rumors I’ve heard and if we might be getting Billy, potentially with Teddy, and if Wanda might be back.
…Nearly forgot Cap 4! Looking forward to that, with a few caveats. Those caveats being I need them to not villainize Sharon and take back the Power Broker thing, and I… truly have no idea how to feel about Sabra, given current events. I was excited for her inclusion, if dreading the discourse, now I don’t know how to feel about it because the likelihood of her inclusion being tone-deaf is even higher, and said discourse is going to be 100 times worse.
I also still have to watch the Loki finale episode and The Marvels. Very much looking forward to The Marvels; I have mixed feelings on the Loki finale since I’ve gotten a little spoiled for it, but I want to see how it ends just the same.
I’m super behind on Marvel movies, I kind of lost steam after Multiverse of Madness and haven’t seen the last 4 or 5 movies. Of those, I’m most looking forward to watching Wakanda Forever. (That would’ve been Love and Thunder because I adore both Jane and Thor but uh, 😬 I’ve heard about it and I had no faith in Taika Waititi to begin with, so…) After WF I think I’m most looking forward to watching GOTG 3 even though I’m fully aware I’m probably gonna cry my eyes out. Feeling a bit meh on Quantumania sadly, despite loving Cassie Lang in comics, based on what friends who’ve seen it have said, and fully expecting to have to grin and bear it through Love and Thunder.
In terms of unconfirmed projects, I need Eternals 2 yesterday. Also a Shang-Chi sequel and a second season of Moon Knight. The rumored Vision Quest show could be very good or alternately very bad, but I love Vision and he deserves a starring role, so I’m crossing my fingers it happens and isn’t just a retread of Tom King’s Vision because that comic was incredibly depressing. (Adore Viv Vision though, and would love a proper robotic Sparky the dog!) I also saw a rumor a bit ago that we might get a Clea backstory show, which I would be incredibly down for since comics Clea is one of my favorite underused characters, and has a really coolbackstory with a lot of potential for an interesting story. And I love the Young Avengers, so if we get to see them as an official team in the future I’ll be hyped for that.
For non-MCU things, I’m vaguely looking forward to Deadpool 3 despite not being a mutants/X-Men enthusiast because a. Deadpool is just fun, b. the Taylor Swift Dazzler rumors. For DC, The Superman: Legacy casting has me really really excited. I love Superman and it seems like we might actually get a good take on him this time! In terms of things farther down the DC pipeline, I’m a big Supergirl fan so naturally I’m hyped for the planned Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie, despite being halfway through that comic and still unsure if I like or not. And I love Damian Wayne so cautiously excited for the rumored Batman movie featuring Bruce and Dami.

We are not judging how bad the movie is, we are judging which adapted the book the worst. There are good movies that are bad adaptions.
Propaganda below the cut (spoilers may apply)
Persuasion:
They massacred my girl!! That is not Anne Elliot!! The whole point is that she's beaten down and thinks she's missed her chance at happiness and is bullied by her family, not making mean and snarky nods to the camera :( They completely missed the whole point of the dynamic and it's SICKENING! They also cut Mrs Smith who is arguably one of the most important characters as she highlights Anne's lack of focus on title and rank and her family's comparative obsession with it + it's only through her that Anne learns about Mr Elliot's true nasty nature. Also they cut the 'I am half agony, half hope' line from Wentworth's letter at the end so what's even the POINT of adapting it if you don't have that!! Oh my god!! My poor favourite Austen novel :( (I do want to make it very very clear that my issues with the movie come from the writing and adaptation and not in any way from the race blind casting. The casting is superb and I'm genuinely so disappointed that they got such a bad adaptation bc so many of the cast are literally perfect)
Where do I even start? They tried to 'modernize' both the protagonist and the love story and managed to take out everything that made it good in the first place. Anne Elliot in the novel is quiet and good and helpful, full of regret. In the movie, she constantly turns to the audience to mock everyone around her, feeling so much better than everyone, to the point where nobody understands why Captain Wentworth would still be in love with her, or have fallen in love with her in the first place. Eight years before the plot starts, she broker her engagement to him because she was persuaded by a family friend that it was a bad idea. No way would movie!Anne have let herself be persuaded. They just tried to do a Fleabag/Emma type of thing without understanding what made either the novel or those two things work and thereby ruined it completely
Whoever made this didn't understand the point of the novel at all. They completely screwed up the character of Anne Elliot (the protagonist), which in turn screws the rest of the movie, as the original story only works because Anne is the way she is. Also, it's a period piece but the characters are talking in modern slang the entire time. And not in a clever way but in a very cringey one. If Jane Austen knew, she'd probably turn in her grave, and rightfully so.
Maximum Ride:
The storyline makes absolutely no sense, and the movie is nothing like the book. You could've given the movie an entirely different name and and keep the plot I wouldn't bat an eye
the movie's just bad mate
Horrendous low budget netflix movie with effects so bad they make me feel physically ill and acting so wooden the cast is in danger of being attacked by lumberjacks. The story already wasn't the best and the film somehow made it worst. I came in with nostalgia for my dear kids with bird wings and left never to be the same again.
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children:
While Miss Peregrine was one of my favorite books as a kid and incredibly unique in the way the story is written (The author basically took a box of weird antique photographs and created an underlying story behind a handful of them) the movie is incredibly boring. Like seriously I can't remember a single goddamn thing about the movie besides my extreme disappointment with it after leaving the theatres. It's probably because the original is a trilogy but they didn't want to make it a trilogy for the movie so they just scrapped the ending of the first book and rewrote a shitty climax where they threw snowballs at the nightmare child eating creatures or something. I remember THAT scene perfectly because it was so, so dumb. It was so stupid oh my God- ALSO, thank God I have a copy of the book from before the film came out because new copies don't have one of the photographs that the actual book uses as a base anymore and instead have the shitty movie poster! We truly do live in a society.
Changed way too much so it doesn't feel like the same thing. The main characters are these kids with different abilities (called peculiarities) and the movie switches around their powers and changes almost everyone's age. Emma and Olive switch powers so that Emma now floats (they also added that she can kind of control air to some extent) when she's supposed to have fire powers to match her fiery personality. Olive can make fire now and she's also aged up from an eight year old to a teenager and put her in this weird romance with Enoch. Enoch is also aged up from a grumpy thirteen year old to around the same age as Olive. Bronwyn, one of the older kids in the book and sort of a motherly figure to the younger kids, is now one of the youngest kids. Hugh and Fiona are aged down and basically have no interaction at all in the movie, even when their book counterparts had such a good relationship. The only one they didn't really change was Horace and Jacob. They also added these gorgon twins that do like two things. The antagonist in the movie is Mr. Barron who honestly isn't super memorable and isn't in the books whatsoever. The ending of the movie is weird too because they manage to turn back time somehow so Jacob's grandfather isn't dead and then he hops through loops so he can be with Emma and the other peculiars. I guess the problem of wights and hollowgasts is magically eliminated and we do not have to deal with the consequences. It took six books to fix everything. I appreciate that the movie engaged me enough to read the series but once I did, I could not believe they did my kids that dirty.
Yikes where to start. The 3 girl characters are all mixed up. There are 2 teens, one who's super strong and has a brother (I'll get back to him) and one who controls fire and is the love interest named Emma. The third girl is a child called Olive who floats. She's lighter than air.
In the movie, strong girl is the child, olive is now the fire girl and is for some reason super introverted, and Emma the love interest floats and gets given a super breath??? Power?? Like she rises a sunken ship by blowing in and keeps a man blown against a wall by blowing air at him. He makes a remark that she'll run out of breath eventually, which happens here because plot convenience, but not when she's blowing in the sunken ship.
The enemies in the book are terrifying Hollows. Creatures who have lost themselves and devour souls of those with powers... The movie decides they eat eyes now. And turn human again. And get busted up in a fair for the final act of the movie. Ugh.
The movie also decides randomly that time travelling through the loops is a thing; a loop being a pocket of time that replays the same day over and over. But apparently this means Main Character can travel back in time and stop his grandfather dying??? What?? His grandfathers death is the whole start of the movie and motivation for the character.
The movie undermines many of things that made the book amazing and even decides it's not a trilogy anymore!! Fuck the other 2 books, right?!
Tldr; it is terribly hollywood-ised and t tim Burton ruined a franchise by trying too hard to make it quirky and fun when the books already had a brilliant sombre and interesting tone to them.

Been a little bit since my last post! Sorry this one isn’t going to be a very long one either. I’ve been very busy with my new job and personal work, but I did want to talk about three movies I saw recently! And while I won’t spoil anything major, these thoughts may cloud your judgement going into the films, so I recommend avoiding if you wanna go in with an open mind. Anyway, let’s go:
BARBIE
Barbie was such a fun film! It made me laugh out loud way more than it had any right to. Seriously, there’s a joke Will Ferrel nonchalantly says that I can’t get outta my mind. I had tears in my eyes. Not gonna spoil it but if you know, you know. The themes are quite existential, but in a playful enough way that I didn’t leave it thinking “bummer…” If I had to complain about anything, it’s that Barbie was kinda inactive for the final act. To the point where I was asking myself “what is Barbie doing?” Maybe you’d see what I meant if you watched it. (Or disagree) I still had a good time tho.
It’s worth a watch!
TMNT MUTANT MAYHEM
This is my favorite TMNT movie now, and my favorite personification of the turtles. The art direction, emotional stuff, comedy, action, and characters were all on point. There’s a moment where Leo has a heart to heart with his bros that didn’t feel as earned as it could’ve (on first viewing) I only bring this up because it’s a thought I had as the scene was going on. Where as everything else in the movie felt organic and original, this scene felt like a tried and true motivational speech beat that these types of movies generally have. If that makes sense? I’d have to watch it again to be sure. And thankfully, I’d gladly watch it again because I had such a good time.
Watch itttt!!
THEY CLONED TYRONE
This is a Netflix original and boy was I blown away. I swear, John Boyega is on Leo DiCaprio’s level of changing into a whole new person for his roles. I’m never sure who I’m gonna get. He really killed it. I’m not gonna spoil this movie and honestly if you go in blind it might be better. The directing is really REALLY good, too. There’s a scene that I really loved, where we’re with a character for an extended amount of time in one shot. This is to build tension for a pretty crazy moment afterwards and it was VERY well done. These types of scenes are so cool to me because I’m used to cutting often in animation. But in live action, these scenes are really good for getting inside a character’s head. I really can’t explain without spoiling but if you’ve watched the movie, I thiiiiink you know the scene I’m talking about.
Anyway, the cast, direction, and plot are all top notch. Jamie Foxx is hilarious as always, and Teyonah Parris gets to shine in this film. I loved her character in this compared to Wandavision where her talent was wasted.
I think this movie is perfect for the culture, but if you’re not typically into movies with a majority black cast that deals with African American issues (in a really good way) then you probably won’t be impressed. Your loss, though! I believe that this, alongside movies like The Woman King, The Harder They Fall, and Get Out are examples of movies that have clear parallels to others in their respective genres, but add a twist that I appreciate because of their characters and writing. I used to be stuck with hood movies, but now I get hood mystery movies. I love it, is all I’m saying.
Anyway, I know what the next deep dive is gonna be. I just need to set aside free time to write it up. I’ve been wanting to do a write up about beat em up games. My favorite one, in particular. I want to analyze what I like about it, and what I don’t. Might do more drawing to go alongside it too. Anybody remember Advance Guardian Heroes?? Brace yourselves, lol.

I know I said a while ago that I wanted to write some of my thoughts on the New Percy Jackson show out, but as time went on, I found myself having less time to actually sit down and watch it. However, now, I have finally finished the show (perhaps more than once, lmao), and I have a lot to share about it! Far more than I originally thought I would, to be honest. Honestly, I spent a couple of days watching everything over again and ended up starting and ending my first embroidery project since the pandemic started, which felt pretty good as it helped me absorb a lot more information as I worked. And, while I would love nothing more than to just word vomit everything out of my brain, I find myself physically incapable of leaving everything out of order now that I’ve had the time to properly think things over (certainly not due to the fact that I’ve been plotting story ideas for the last few weeks and can’t think of leaving anything disorganized right now). Instead of nonsensical paragraphs, I figured I would take things in four separate sections - my opinions on the characters, the castings I hope we get in the future, my favorite quotes, and a small snippet of how I would see things going down if I were to write this AU.
So, without further ado, I’m going to start off strong with…
Tumblr media
My Character Takes:
Right off the bat, I adored Percy (Walker Scobell). I may be biased as I chose Walker as my sort of faceclaim for Bentley, but this child has Percy’s personality to a tee. I knew from watching him act alongside Ryan Reynolds in The Adam Project that he would be perfect not only for Bentley, but also for Percy and, when I finally got to see him as Percy, I knew I was right. From the iconic first line to the final moment of the series, he had me hooked. Though I missed the absolutely iconic “This is a pen!” quote from the movie, I feel like they got pretty much everything right for Percy. So many of his one-liners made me pause to laugh because I wouldn't have heard anything that was said afterward if I hadn’t, but he also has the right amount of seriousness and professionalism in certain scenes to make Percy come to life. I doubt Rick Riordan could have found a better Percy if they tried, and I can’t wait to see him in season 2.
Now, for Percy’s parents, Sally and Poseidon. Sally (Virginia Kull) was brilliant, and her interactions with Percy felt perfectly motherly and sweet while also having a vivid personality all her own. Watching back over the show after seeing it through the first time, I picked up on a lot more subtle hints at her mental struggle as a “single” mother of a demigod (she did remarry, and I’ll touch on that in a moment). I feel like watching it back over sort of gave me the full picture and I love that little touch. Now, Poseidon (Toby Stephens, Dame Maggie Smith’s son) was also incredible. I feel like, although we didn’t see much of Poseidon initially, the way he acted was very telling of his situation (being unable to see or interact with Percy without Zeus’ permission for fear of starting another huge war), and it felt like there was a definite desire and regret that he couldn’t have stuck around for his son (if not for Sally as well).
As for Percy’s stepfather, Gabe Ugliano (Timm Sharp), I feel like they may have tamed him a bit from the book as a way to avoid triggering anybody who grew up in an abusive household, but they still kept him on the despicable side. I always hated him, but I do feel like they could have made him worse. Instead of the bigoted, poker-playing asshole we meet in the books, we get a bit more of an idiot who wastes his money on online poker and sits around all day. I like that they kept his ending the way it was, but I sort of wish it played a bigger role in Sally's story going forward. Who knows; maybe it will in the future, but I wish they delved more into his character being genuinely a disgusting human being rather than just a loser.
Now, even though I don’t want to go too into detail on them because I don’t want to spoil anything in case you care to watch this show later on (highly recommended as there’s no need to read the books to see what’s going on), I want to touch on some of the campers and Percy’s friends. Ironically, I’ll be starting with Clarisse LaRue (Dior Goodjohn). Clarisse is the take-no-shit-and-start-shit daughter of Ares, the god of war, and is also the counselor of his cabin (Cabin 5). She’s very combative, competitive, and aggressive, which we find out is because she wants her dad to favor her despite her being a girl and all his “favorites” being boys. As stated in the show, he doesn’t even really like his kids, but that doesn’t stop her from trying to gain favor. Dior was a great choice for Clarisse, and I have to say, I think she did her great justice. The actor they had in the movies (well, movie as she was only in one despite her character being in more of the books) was good, but she wasn’t nearly as aggressive, feisty, and tough as Dior’s. Honestly, 10/10.
Luke Castellan is one character I couldn’t wait to see come to life, and Charlie Bushnell did an amazing job with him. He is the son of Hermes, the god of messengers, travelers, and thieves, and Luke is, like Clarisse, the head of his cabin (Cabin 11). Luke is one of the best, multi-faceted characters in not only the books, but in this show as well. Though he doesn’t appear in many episodes, I feel as though his character is one we’ll definitely be watching closely as time goes by. Regardless, Charlie did amazing in his portrayal of Luke, and I think he handled everything really well!
I know a lot of people weren’t thrilled when Leah Sava Jeffries was cast as Annabeth Chase (daughter of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy - Cabin 6), but I trusted Rick’s choice in casting her as he said he knew she was the best choice for Annabeth. I have to say, he was right; she was incredible! Her interactions with everyone, the subtle ways she showed that she knew more than she was letting on, and her acting overall was great for Annabeth. I love that they included her Yankees cap as well, something I wish they had in the movies. Leah was amazing, Annabeth truly came to life, and I’m very excited to see how everything pans out!
Speaking of pans, we have Grover Underwood, a hopeful searcher for Pan, the god of the wild, satyrs, and folk music. While Grover is not related to Pan, his goal is to become a searcher so that he can follow his family’s legacy of searching for the missing god of the wild. Now, I actually loved the way the movies made Grover, but I think they did pretty well with him in the show as well. There is a certain scene I wish they had kept from the movie, but with how they made Gabe Ugliano in the show, I’m not entirely surprised they took it out. It would have been hilarious, though! I do have to say that Aryan Simhadri did an amazing job and that I was very pleased with his performance overall!
For the Greek gods that we met this season, I want to start off with the now-passed Lance Reddick, who played Zeus, the god of the sky, thunder, lightning, kingship, honor, and justice (Cabin 1). It’s sad that he never was able to watch his character come to life on screen, but he did a pretty great job in the one episode he was in. The looming threat of his presence throughout the episodes was a very effective build-up to actually meeting him in the end. He was a good choice for Zeus and, while I’m upset he won’t be in any future seasons, his acting was great. I’m sure they’ll find someone to do him good justice in the future, but those will be big shoes to fill as far as the rest of the cast will be concerned, I’m sure.
As I’ve already touched on Poseidon, I’m going to skip over to Hephaestus, the god of fire, forges, sculpture, metalworking, stone masonry, carpenters, technology, artisans, and volcanoes (Cabin 9). Hephaestus is pretty much an outsider from the Olympian family as he doesn’t really bother with the drama of Olympus, and Timothy Omudson does a great job of showing this in his simplistic, yet interesting approach. I found myself wanting to sit and talk with him - get his take on everything, in a way. Unlike some of the other gods we hear about/meet, he seems to think fairly reasonably and is pretty sympathetic, something I really liked about this portrayal of Hephaestus.
Ares is next on my list and, while I was never a huge fan of the character as the Greek myth was originally labelled as a protector of mistreated women and this version Ares was just an asshole, I feel like Adam Copeland made me like him. The first time I watched the episode we meet him in, I just sat there laughing at his personality, but the second time around, I had to wonder how on earth I found myself genuinely sort of enjoying watching him. Though I’m still not big on him overall, as his treatment of his own children is pretty shit, I can’t say that I didn’t enjoy seeing him. Also, when he talked about different wars in the diner, it felt like I was listening to my dad in history class all over again, and I kind of enjoyed that. Anyway, he was chaotic and crazy, but he has great taste in motorcycles, and I actually enjoyed him overall. Adam Copeland did a great job not making me fully hate him.
Finally, I want to talk about Hermes, who was played by none other than Lin-Manuel Miranda. When I saw that he was on the cast list, my immediate thought was Apollo, but I ended up loving him as Hermes. I wish we had seen more of him, but honestly, that’s just my Hamilton brain screeching to be let out, as I know he wasn’t supposed to be in many, if any, of the episodes this season because they were following the books. Honestly, though, Lin was incredible, Hermes was incredible, and I hope we see more of him going forward!
Tumblr media
Future Castings:
Firstly, I want to say that my biggest hope is to see Sam Claflin as Apollo! His personality in The Hunger Games was all I needed to see, honestly. He would be perfect for Apollo, and I hope that’s who we get, but if not, I’ll just have to trust the process.
Tumblr media
My top pick for Thalia Grace (and a semi-popular one I’ve seen floating around) is Momona Tamada.
Tumblr media
I could see Zoë Saldaña, Tessa Thompson, or Danai Gurira as Athena. I don’t have a solid choice, but I could see them working really well as they have to play Annabeth’s mom, and they all could pull that off pretty well.
Tumblr media
For Aphrodite, I have a variety of ideas. Gemma Chan could be pretty good, but so could Florence Pugh, Elizabeth Olsen, or Indya Moore. I feel like there are so many ways they could pull it off, but regardless of who they choose, I’m sure it’ll be great. (There is no official artwork for her, so I’m using the picture from Rick Riordan’s website, but she is known to change her appearance as she pleases)
Tumblr media
One character I’m sure we won't see for a while, but I’d still enjoy, would be either Sadie Sink or Erin Kellyman for Rachel Elizabeth Dare. I doubt either actress will end up being chosen, as it’ll probably be a while before we get to season 3, but they were my top choices for her.
Tumblr media
Now, I don’t have many ideas for anyone else, but I’m sure the cast will be amazing no matter what.
Tumblr media
Quotes:
I had a lot of quotes from the show that I absolutely loved, but I forgot to write down which episodes they came from as I wrote more in the second time around and they got a bit jumbled on paper. I remember who said most of them and I was originally going to write that in as well, but I think I could use some of them later on, so I’ll just leave them nameless for now. Some of them, you can tell who could be part of the conversation if you pay attention to the names mentioned, but others are up in the air. Besides, the quotes alone are great, in my book. The different formats symbolize different people talking, as I couldn’t figure out a better way in the larger conversation points, but the ones where there’s only one person are just plain text.
--
“She fought valiantly, and she met a hero's fate.”
“She met a pinecone's fate.”
--
“So you're not a monster, what are you then?”
“A survivor.”
--
“It's not here.”
“We know. Yeah, glory's fine. Revenge is more fun.”
--
“Why is there half a goat in your pants?”
“Oh, it's... Oh! Oh, boy, she didn't tell you about... You didn't tell him about me?”
“You're early.”
“So the important thing is not to panic.”
--
“Look, this is a bad idea. They will see this as impertinent.”
“I am impertinent.”
--
“Not everyone who looks like a hero is a hero, and not everyone who looks like a monster is a monster.”
--
“He was a god.”
“You fell in love with God? Like Jesus?”
--
“I want him to know who he is before your family tries to tell him who they want him to be. He is better than that. He has better things in him than that.”
--
“This is Percy Jackson.”
“Yeah, Grover, I heard him the first time.”
“But did you?”
--
“It was your father who warned me to stay away. Said it was awful watching you struggle and feel powerless to stop it. But that sometimes… that’s what parenting is.”
--
“Are you stalking me, Annabeth?”
*shrugs* “Yes.”

“Look, I get that Nancy has issues, I’m just getting tired of her taking them out on me. I feel like… maybe it’s time to do something about it.”
“You could make an appointment to see Mr. Kane. He’s really good at talking-”
“I was thinking more like shoving Nancy in the nearest dumpster.”
“Oh.”
--
“I have a job!”
“Losing at imaginary poker?”
--
“Give me a second, I’m just starting a fight on Twitter.”
--
“I warned you, if you're not careful, you'll find out who I am.”
--
“Poseidon has ignored me my entire life.”
“You are his son!”
“I am Sally Jackson’s son!”
--
“Two things you never wanna be are small and scary at the same time. Things that are small and scary...get squished.”
--
“So, do we have a deal, or am I killing all three of you so I can eat in peace?”
“Ok.”
“Great!”
--
“Do you know what that feels like? To be so close to someone you love, knowing neither of you has any choice but to keep hurting each other?”
--
“I’m gonna kill him.”
“I knew I was gonna like you.”
--
“Is there a Greek god of disappointment? Maybe someone should ask him if he’s missing a kid.”
--
“This thing, Zeus's master bolt, we need to get it back, right?”
“Yes.”
“And it's gonna be hard to get, yes?”
“Extraordinarily.”
“And if the mission required someone to push me down a flight of stairs for it to succeed... you'd want someone who won't hesitate when they do it.”
--
“He isn’t here. My father, he just… didn’t show. I mean, ignoring me is one thing, but he doesn’t get to ignore you. I’m gonna make him come down here. I’m gonna make him see me. I’m gonna make him see us both.”
--
“No one comes ba~ack.”
“Dude! Don't make me come back out there!”
--
“You really don’t want the bolt?”
“Why would I want that?”
“To start a war between your brothers.”
“Why would I want that?!”
“Jealousy!”
“I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but it’s all candy canes and rainbows down here. I don’t really do jealous.”
--
“Take your victory. Just spare my son.”
--
“Obedience doesn’t come naturally to you, does it?”
“No… sir.”
“I must take some of the blame, I suppose. The sea does not like to be restrained.”
--
“Ares is a moron. Perhaps you noticed?”

AU Idea:
I know I've said before that I didn't have much of an idea of what I'd write if I did this AU, but I think watching the books come to life a bit has altered that. I've gone through some of the books again and sort of figured out what I would want to see happen, so I figured I would put it all out here while I'm at it. Some things in my original post have changed, such as their parents, but I also have a basic timeline down as well. I feel like the vibes would be very similar to that of Camp Wanamaker as I plan on keeping things mostly around the camp at first, but there will be some big exploration further down the road as I develop an actual storyline. I do plan on going more in-depth on topics that haven't been brought up in the show/movies as I figure that would make it easier not just for me, but also for you. I have a lot of ideas, but I'll try to work it down to the first couple of chapter ideas as I haven't gone through the whole story's plot yet.
For starters, I think I would have Royce be the new kid at camp - an almost sixteen-year-old who was brought to camp by an adult demigod who rescued him from a monster on a field trip (Butchy, son of Zeus). He's pushed head-first into camp activities, and soon finds himself getting stalked by a pair of younger demigods who have been at camp for some time and have already been claimed (Bentley, son of Apollo, and Kona, daughter of Iris). The kids eventually corner him outside the Unclaimed Child portion of the Hermes cabin (where he'll reside until his godly parent claims him) and encourage him to try different cabins until he finds a good fit. Despite claiming the whole thing is nothing but a dream he'll eventually wake up from, Royce allows the pair to drag him around, starting from the top and working his way down.
Zeus, Hera, and Poseidon's cabins are all quickly dismissed, but before he can get much further, things at camp slow to a stop as the Hunters of Artemis arrive, having been told to stay at camp until the return of their leader and goddess, Artemis. Kona is quick to tail the Hunters, trying her hardest to find acceptance within the female-only group while some others stray to their original cabins to visit their former siblings. Upon asking why the Hunters seem to be a group of relatively young girls, Bentley brings Royce to his older half-brother Miles (head counselor of Apollo's cabin) who explains that the Hunters are maidens (which can be human, god, demigod, or nymph) who have sworn loyalty to the maiden goddess Artemis. They reject love for as long as they live and, in return, gain eternal youth and semi-immortality as long as they don't break their vows, or are slain in battle. There are some who leave if they fall in love, but very few do.
Not long after, the campers and Hunters are pushed into a game of rather brutal game of Capture the Flag, where Royce encounters a small group of Hunters who take pity on him as the new kid, a tall brunette girl with a silver circlet on her head giving him a hand up when the others in her group leave the area (Vivien, Hunter of Artemis and daughter of Hecate, goddess of magic, crossroads, necromancy, and the night). During dinner that night, Royce meets her at the fire as he puts in an offering to his still unknown parent and asks the girl some questions, trading names and finding out her previous cabin before she suggests he not push his luck befriending any of the hunters as they won't be around for long, and heads back to her table, leaving him more than a little intrigued.
I do have a bit more written out, but for now, I'm going to keep it there. However, I'm still going to show some of the parental changes I've made since my last post about this idea. There are only three, but they're there. I also have some plans to add in some of my other characters that I don't write as much, if at all, but they'll come in later on as I haven't quite decided where to put them.
Kona has gone from the daughter of Poseidon to the daughter of Iris (goddess of the Rainbow and messenger of the gods). I changed this because, although I love the idea of Kona just railing people with water when they do stupid stuff, the thought of her being this artsy, hippie-esque little girl who habitually makes friendship bracelets for new campers, who enjoys going around scaring people by turning the world black-and-white or momentarily blinding them with sunbeams. It's also known that children of Iris are great with art/creativity and have a strong connection with pegasi, so I can just picture her trying to use paint or something to give each of the pegasi cutie marks like in My Little Pony or giving them dyed manes/tails.
Vivien has a change of pace as well, going from the daughter of Athena to the daughter of Hecate and a Hunter of Artemis. The Hunter part is a relatively big plot point in the story as, like I said, they give up love in favor of aiding with the Hunt. However, I'll dive into that when I write the story. For now, I'll focus on the Hecate part. Hecate is the goddess of magic, as I've said before, and where Vivien is a collector of crystals in every universe and is great with magic in my Hocus Pocus AU, I feel it's a great fit. Another thing nudging me toward this is the idea that Hecate can be a tough parent, and her children must prove their worth and study hard to master their skills in magic. I feel like Vivien's already established, rocky relationship with her mom in my other stories would come into play in this as well, perhaps playing a role in her decision to become a Hunter.
Another change that I didn't mention in the snippet above was Mick. Mick was originally the daughter of Hephaestus, but I've since changed that as I feel it makes more sense in the way I've fixed it. Now, she is the Roman descendant (otherwise known as a legacy) of Minerva (Athena's counterpart) and Vulcan (Hephaestus' counterpart). Her mother, Mack, was the daughter of Minerva, and her father, Brady, was the grandson of Vulcan. This means that Mick is not at Camp Half-Blood in New York (the camp for the children of Greek gods), but at Camp Jupiter in California (the camp for the descendants of Roman gods), something I feel suits her fairly well and gives her a deeper storyline with not only Butchy, but also her usual friends.

Final notes:
Now, in case you haven’t noticed, I adored this show as a whole! One of my nephews who hasn’t read the books, finally had the chance to watch it, and loved it nearly as much as I did, which is pretty telling. I love that even people who haven’t had an interest/read the books, are loving this show. It’s just great! I have to say, the show is pretty good at explaining everything as they go and making everything feel as though it’s flowing properly. As if it weren’t obvious by now, I highly recommend watching the first season! It’s a great show overall, everything felt realistic, and it gave me a lot of ideas for the future (which, as you can probably tell, might include a Percy Jackson AU of some kind). Anyway, I loved it and plan on going back to rewatch it more as time goes by, but for now, I’m going to end my ramblings and go back to my little one-off story that I haven’t touched in what feels like forever!

AINUN'S FILM REVIEW - EILEEN
Ratings: 7/10
Tumblr media
Having Ottessa Moshfegh herself write the screenplay and produce the movie, "Eileen" was unsurprisingly a faithful adaptation of the original work. Aesthetically, the movie was right up my alley. Some of the dialogues and visual compositions felt reminiscent of gifs that could have gone viral on sad-girl-tumblr circa 2014. Sadly, they left out large chunks of the titular character development and her self-transformation in the second half of the story. In addition to the elimination of a lot of Eileen's raw, peculiar and disgusting behavior. All of which I felt was what made the source material interesting in the first place.
Disclaimer: There might be some minor spoilers.
Set in mid-60s Massachusetts, "Eileen" unfolds the story of a repressed and shy young secretary, the titular character, who became captivated with a glamorous enigmatic new counselor, with somewhat of a femme fatale persona, Rebecca, in the boy prison where she works. As the two grew closer in their friendship, Eileen was inspired to explore new facets of herself. Her transformation along with her relationship with Rebecca would then take a twisted turn with the revelation of a secret.
Tumblr media
My first reaction upon watching the movie was that Thomasin McKenzie surprised me with her deliverance of Eileen. She managed to portray such a complex, repressed, longing, lonely mid-twenty woman mainly through nuanced body language and facial expressions. Her portrayal of Eileen's transformation, from drowning in the nihilism of reality to embracing her identity, was compelling. Apologies for ever being skeptical about her casting (in my defense, my main concern was I thought she was FAR too pretty to play such a disgusting character).
Tumblr media
McKenzie’s chemistry with Anne Hathaway, who played Rebecca was magnetic. It got me swooning over Rebecca every time she smiled at Eileen. I thank the casting directors for signing the perfect pair to represent the leads. Hathaway's charismatic persona carried Rebecca's alluring siren characteristic, a lovely balance to McKenzie's awkward and naive Eileen. This dynamic kept the audience wondering about the true nature of their friendship up until the revealing plot twist.
Despite these strengths, I was quite disappointed that they toned down some of the raw and weird icks from the book, something I was sort of looking forward to in an Ottessa Moshfegh adaptation. Watching this only a few days after I watched “Saltburn” and all the freaky stunts Barry Keoghan did, might worsen my disappointment with “Eileen”. This change from the books made Eileen less complex and more likable, which made her attraction to Rebecca less unsettling. It eliminated her self-reflection on her own mistakes, self-absorption and naivete which was more clearly described in the book.
For people who haven’t read the books, I can imagine the conflict resolution and ending to be weak and vague. It left a lot for self-interpretation, something I realize not a lot of younger social media-addicted audiences, who are more used to more "direct" movies, would like. This open-endedness laid a heavy burden on McKenzie’s acting, which thankfully, was wonderful, but in my honest opinion, wasn't enough to compensate for the lack of closure. Integrating some of Eileen’s internal monologues, especially during her final scenes, could have provided a more satisfying conclusion for a wider audience
Tumblr media
Regardless, despite my few disappointments, for me, both the movie and the book resonated with an emotional sense of painful longing and the agonizing feeling of being entrapped in one's self, unable to break free because of unseen limitations. It captured self-realization and the thrill of taking control of your own life and emotions. Well suited for people in their mid-20s, struggling with a quarter-life crisis. I don't know if this was intentional or not, but for me, the vague ending could represents the vagueness of life itself and the uncertainties of the future, adding an interesting depth to its thematic exploration.

Spoilers for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes movie
I just watched the movie and after finishing my reread of the book this morning, here are my thoughts
The casting is immaculate. It is literal perfection, every single one of them
I don’t like how they changed the prize for the mentor whose tribute won the Hunger Games. In the book there were two prizes and in the movie there was only the Plinth prize
I don’t like how we never find out what happened to Clemmie after she got bitten by Dr Gaul’s snakes. In the book we got a whole storyline with it, but the movie gave us nothing
The covey was practically ignored in the movie and that’s such a shame because they were so amazing in the book
I loved how the songs were interpreted in the movie, reading them in the book they were meh but the way Rachel Zegler sang was just perfect
I loved how the movie was cut in three acts, just like the book
I loved how they yassified the Academy uniforms, slay, Coriolanus. Slay.
During Sejanus’s execution, playing the jaberjay recording that incriminated him as he was hanged gave me literal chills
I loved how the changed the arena in the movie
I didn’t like how most tributes in the movie died differently than in the book, it doesn’t make any sense to change it
I loved how they changed the way Reaper collected the bodies of those that had died, mostly the way he tore down the flag of Panem, much better than how it happened in the book
The District 12 storyline felt rushed in the movie. In the book they spend weeks there, in the movie it was a couple of days
The way they changed how Coriolanus was able to take the officer exam was so confusing in the movie, it kinda just happened rather than having him study for the test after Sejanus bargained for Coriolanus to get his diploma after he was kicked out of the Academy without getting it. It just felt a little weird and rushed
I hate that they skipped all the private teaching moments between Dr Gaul and Coriolanus. In the book there’s this whole essay he needs to write about control, chaos and contract and all of that was skipped in the movie. That part of the book was what made the ending make sense when Dr Gaul pulled him from the Districts so he could study under her in the Capitol
I hate how they didn’t mention all the other changes Coriolanus brought to the Games, things we know will happen later because of the original movies like the victor’s village and the parcels of food for the victor’s entire District. All of that came from Coriolanus and the movie doesn’t mention it
I hate how the movie doesn’t mention that every single copy of the 10th Hunger Games has been destroyed so that no one will ever be able to see them again
I loved how they portrayed Tigris in the movie
Finally, I know this is a movie and so we don’t have Coriolanus’s inner monologue, but still, without it, he almost came across like a victim of circumstances rather than the psychopath we know he is from the book

Saw X Review: One of Jigsaw's Best Games Ever
Tumblr media
Saw X weaves a complex tapestry of suspense, redemption, and betrayal, marking a riveting addition to the iconic horror franchise. Directed and edited by Kevin Greutert, and penned by the talented duo of Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger, this installment bridges the narrative gap between the original Saw and its sequel, Saw II. The film's storyline ventures into uncharted territory, injecting fresh blood into the series while retaining the signature elements that fans adore. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3PzUo4P21c In Saw X, John Kramer travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in the hopes of receiving a miraculous cure, only to learn the entire procedure is a fraud intended to take advantage of the most helpless. The notorious serial killer, now motivated by a new goal, uses bizarre and clever traps to defeat the con artists. The Good: Tobin Bell's portrayal of John Kramer, the enigmatic Jigsaw, is nothing short of magnificent. While we've obviously seen him in every single Saw movie except for Spiral, he is relatively a side character in his films. Most Saw films follow the person who is trapped in his game, while we occasionally cut to some detectives trying to put the pieces together and hunt down Jigsaw. But not here. Tobin Bell's Jigsaw is put front and center of this story, which is one of the wisest choices they could've done. His performance transcends the screen, delving deep into the psyche of a man grappling with his mortality. Bell's nuanced delivery captures the essence of a character torn between his principles and the grim reality of his own impending demise. His performance is, without a doubt, Oscar-worthy, capturing the torment, resilience, and twisted morality that defines Jigsaw. Will he actually receive an Oscar nomination for his role? Unfortunately not. But in a perfect world, he would. The film's strength lies in its ability to make audiences empathize with Jigsaw, a feat achieved through clever storytelling and compelling character development. As the audience delves into John Kramer's desperate search for a second chance at life, they find themselves unexpectedly rooting for a character previously perceived as a cold-hearted antagonist. This shift in perspective is a testament to the film's exceptional writing and Bell's impeccable acting, which humanizes Jigsaw in ways previously unexplored. Saw X excels in its ability to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. The intricate traps, ingeniously designed by the diabolical minds behind the franchise, elicit genuine tension and nail-biting suspense. Each trap is meticulously crafted, posing a moral dilemma that challenges the characters' beliefs and pushes them to their limits. The creativity displayed in these sequences showcases the filmmakers' dedication to delivering a visceral and heart-pounding experience. The film's supporting cast delivers commendable performances, with Shawnee Smith reprising her role as Amanda Young, Synnøve Macody Lund portraying the cunning Cecilia Pederson, Steven Brand embodying the desperate Parker Sears, and Renata Vaca bringing depth to the character of Gabriela. Their collective efforts enhance the film's emotional resonance, adding layers to the intricate web of deceit and desperation. But it's Smith who gets the meatiest supporting role here as Amanda. She is one of the most fascinating characters in the entire franchise, and while she was quite intriguing in Saw II and Saw III, it's safe to say that she has never been better in Saw X. A large portion of the film focuses on Amanda's doubts on taking over for John once he inevitably passes away from cancer, and we frequently see John reassuring her, telling her that she has what it takes and is ready. In a way, it's weirdly beautiful and heartfelt even though we know we're watching two psychopathic characters who put people in deadly traps. It's hard to think of another film that makes you care for the villains so deeply. By making a handful of characters in Saw X that somehow feel even more sick and twisted than Jigsaw and Amanda is truly brilliant screenwriting. If they do ultimately decide to make another Saw film after this one, they surely need to bring back Goldfinger and Stolberg, as they've shown that they absolutely know what they're doing with these characters. And, no spoilers of course, but this film does contain an extraordinary end-credits scene that will have longtime Saw fans giddy, myself included. The Bad: However, Saw X is not without its flaws. At times, the plot becomes convoluted, requiring viewers to piece together fragmented information to fully grasp the intricacies of the story. While the complexity adds depth to the narrative, it may leave some audience members feeling slightly disoriented. Additionally, some character motivations, particularly towards the film's climax, might appear slightly contrived, requiring a suspension of disbelief to fully invest in the unfolding events. Overall: Saw X stands as a magificent entry in the franchise, skillfully blending elements of horror, suspense, and psychological drama. Tobin Bell's exceptional performance elevates the film, making it the second best entry in franchise that's been going on for nearly two decades now. The film's ability to evoke empathy for its iconic antagonist is a testament to the filmmakers' storytelling prowess. While it occasionally stumbles in its complexity, the film's gripping traps, stellar performances, and unexpected twists make it a must-watch for both longtime fans and newcomers to the series. Saw X is a thrilling rollercoaster of emotions, reminding audiences why the Saw franchise continues to captivate and terrify audiences worldwide. Read the full article

My Thoughts on the Mario Movie
I just opened this blog and I'm stuck bored at the laundromat, so now seems like a great time to ramble. Will be getting into spoiler territory.
Just to give background, I literally grew up on this franchise. SMB3 was the first game I ever beat. My favorite cartoon was The Super Mario Bros. Super Show (if you can't tell by the blog URL). I started to write at 9 years old after stumbling onto a Mario fansite and being inspired. This was my introduction to fandom.
When I initially saw the movie, I had mixed feelings. I was floored when they acknowledged and even expanded upon the original story of how the brothers made it to the Mushroom Kingdom. Yes, they're just some guys from the real world, that's the point! They're just some guys!
For the negatives: The pacing is awful. They don't take long enough to pause on any one moment or expand on any point made. They immediately jump to the next thing each time. My boy Luigi barely got any screen time. The voice acting wasn't bad, but it wasn't great (but I can look past that). I'm still not a fan of the final fight taking place in Brooklyn because then that raises a lot of questions that aren't answered (How do the citizens of Earth react to a massive turtle dragon attacking the city??? Did this get news coverage??? Are we just handwaving this??? What????).
As for the positives on my initial viewing: Loved Bowser. They nailed his personality. I knew they would the moment they announced that Jack Black would be voicing him. I loved every moment he was on screen. Zero complaints. The casting of Charlie Day as Luigi was also perfect in my book (even if that one was more controversial for some reason?). It just... Fits. Anya-Taylor Joy needed better direction, but her voice worked well enough and you can tell she really enjoyed her role from the previews. Chris Pratt was certainly there but not as bad as I was expecting.
And the references! God. The references. The movie really looked at its older audience and said "Hey. This is for you too." (I'm hoping the blue toad with glasses was supposed to reference Toadbert, but that may have just been me hoping.)
But, as I said, my feelings were mixed.
Initially.
But then I thought about the movie more and more.
What's important in the Mario franchise is that the CORE is there. I'm not talking "giant turtle kidnap princess saved by plumber the end." I mean the brothers. It's Super Mario BROTHERS.
This was my biggest fear going into the theatre. Mario and Luigi actively care for each other in the games, first and foremost. They bicker sometimes. Luigi can get a bit jealous in some of the games. But in playing the games, it's explicitly clear: They care for each other. They'll protect each other. They'll risk their lives for each other. In the Mario&Luigi games especially, they're not afraid to comfort each other and show affection for each other. "Toxic masculinity" does not exist here.
My fear going in, especially Chris Pratt as lead, would be that this would be outright abandoned. This movie was produced here in the USA, and us USAmericans tend to be HIGHLY touch-averse, to the point of it being cultural taboo. It would have been far too easy for them to ignore or change their relationship to the more 'typical' depiction you see of brothers in media.
But.... no.
THEY NAILED IT. ABSOLUTELY NAILED IT!
The most important part of the series! THEY NAILED IT!!!
Mario and Luigi's interactions are PERFECT in the movie! That's them! As they should be! Constantly reassuring each other before they're separated! Mario standing up for and protecting Luigi since they were kids! Luigi insisting that Mario isn't bringing him down like their dad says! When they reunite! THE FOREHEAD TOUCH! They're on the verge of tears! They only care that the other is safe even though they're in the middle of a massive battle!
The pacing is awful. The voice acting is okay. I still don't like the final battle taking place in Brooklyn without showing consequences. But in the end, that doesn't actually matter to me! This is going to be an introduction to the franchise for so many people! So many new fans, so many kids, so many people who will grow to love it as I do, and the most important part is THERE! The movie is far from perfect, but that doesn't matter to me as much now!
Hopefully we get more of the brothers in the next movie (There's DEFINITELY a next movie). I am actively excited for what the first movie brought and can't wait to see it expanded. It's perfect for what it needed to be.
(Also Donkey Kong's "WELL YOUR DAD'S RIGHT" is the funniest subversion of that trope I've ever seen and had me in tears in the theater, gotta give credit where credit is due.)

I hope this doesn't sound offensive, but can you list everything you hate about Boruto both the character himself and the series??(I wanted to ask you since I wanted to get as much information as possible to imagine a re-write or arc to fix the problems)
The way the original cast is drawn as adults. Naruto, Sasuke, Gaara, Mizukage Mei, Kiba, Hinata, Anko, Yamato, etc. They were made sooo ugly! Ugh!
How they completely ruined Hinata and NaruHina. Because, all Hinata does is act like those abusive wives who were all sweet and nice when they were dating. But, after they get married? They turn into horrible women with their husbands.
How Sasuke is so lame, docile and OOC as hell! It’s just like Vegeta from Dragon Ball Super. I prefer the original ones that I saw at the beginning.
Boruto is just so dislikable. He’s crap! He’s so annoying. He’s just like Sailor Mini Moon. They think they’re so much stronger and cooler than their parents. But, they’re not. They think they’re so perfect, powerful and mature. They’re not!
How Boruto was basically, befriending and changing his enemies like Naruto used to in Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. That’s blasphemy!!! I HATE BORUTO! That kid isn’t his dad! He’s not charismatic at all and I don’t believe he’s able to change people. I don’t buy it. The stupid creator (whose name I wrote down in my Death Note) of Boruto just did it. Because, Boruto is the main character.
How they made ALL of Naruto’s Semes/Tops completely forget about the love and how gay they were for him.
How they brainwashed Sai and erased ALL of his memories of Naruto and him. Then, they replaced them with fake ones of Ino.
Okay, the whole Mitsuki x Boruto ship. I ABHOR IT! Mitsuki was forced to love Boruto! It’s something that was implanted into his brain since he was born. The only sun & moon ship i acknowledge is, SasuNaru.
How they nerfed Sasuke and Naruto.
How they made Orochimaru all young and pretty. But, made Yamato old and ugly.
How Kakashi’s infatuation with Minato-sensei is completely gone. SERIOUSLY! What the hell?! Even Homophobic guys liked how much he idolized Minato in Shippuden.
How they took away all of Naruto‘a cool moves. Wind Shuriken? He doesn’t know it. How many thousands of shadow clones he could make? Nope. He can only make 7 or 8 now.
How some episodes are just cheap and crappy remakes of ones that we’ve already seen in Naruto and Naruto Shippuden.
They made Tsunade flat-chested. Why? That was her trait.
They cured Konohamaru of his Narutosexuality by, making him fall in love with a 99¢ store version of Tsunade in a freaking filler arc!!!
Naruto!!! Poor Naruto is no longer the cheerful boy he once was. Before anyone says something stupid about how he’s an adult now and HAD to change. That is BS! I’m 32 years old and I’ve had the exact same personality since the day I was born. My Dad too!! And like, what about Minato and Kushina? They kept the exact same personality they had as children! I mean, I understand that a person’s personality SOME TIMES changes with time or from childhood > adolescence > adulthood. OR if they had a traumatic experience. Which is what I think could be the case here. Naruto was forced to marry and have children with Hinata. Who he didn’t feel anything towards! He HAD to have an entire movie made so that he would be forced to love her. Please!!! Give me a freaking break!!! You wanna know what Naruto and Sasuke (including their American Voice Actors) wanted? They wanted to be together! Naruto wanted to “restore” Sasuke’s clan. If Sasuke would’ve asked? Well, Naruto would have transformed into Naruko/Sexy Jutsu to have children or something. They both would’ve been so happy together.
I’m probably leaving out a lot of other issues. But, I’m busy right now. I’m playing Dragon Age Inquisition on my PS5. I’m leveling up and talking to characters in the game to grind points. Bye.

Review:
So, if your like me, you spend wayyyyyy to much time on BookTok. As usual, I was scrolling aimlessly as one does and I stumble upon a trailer for this book by the author- I knew I was going to have to pick up this book. And, honestly I wasn't disappointed.
What would happen if you found out your favorite superhero's were real? and the hot misunderstood villain is currently stocking you? Welp. That's exactly what our main character Rosemary has to figure out. She gets thrown in to a world that her fangirl heart loves, but has to find her own place in, and that she may be closer to the wrong side than she originally thought.
This book honestly reminded me of a Avengers movie in the best way. Character gets thrown into the superhero world and needs to figure out what is right and what is wrong in this new world. Who are the bad guys and who are the good guys.
This novel is also a perfect example of what a good YA novel should be. The characters are realistic and act their ages(16,17, & 18), they respond accordingly to situations. It's also a action novel, which is something personally I don't think we have nearly enough of in the YA genre. It was also the perfect length- very short and sweet. I honestly think this book can work for any age group-which is very hard to do nowadays. Anybody from 7-29 could read this book and I think they would generally enjoy it.
Not to mention, the last 100 pages or so are very action pact that It kept me up till 2 am. Spoiler free review as always, but let me just say, the action never stops and the twists? keep you on the edge of your seat!
Honestly, I only have one negative note about the whole book. It felt rushed, and extremely fasted pace. Yes, I know I read fast, but I tried especially to take my time with this book. Even tho, it still felt extremely fast, without my kindle telling me that I was only 50% of the way thru the book, I would have thought we reached the climax and the end way sooner.
I honestly applaud the author, for writing such a good debut novel. I really hope she writes a second, because I. AM. HOOKED. I think the author has a really good shot here at having the next bestselling YA series. if you like superhero's, Misunderstood villains, and major twists, pick up this novel. I promise you, you won't regret it.

things about the hunger games movie i appreciate more as i age, as the film ages, and having read the ballad of songbirds and snakes:
in 2012 hollywood was in a bleak era for action movies where most movies that came out of it looked the same. we were in grey/teal/orange no-white-balance shakycam jump-cut hell for a long time — thg was not an exception to this. and i side-eyed it for not doing much of anything different. HOWEVER, coming back to it i think this is a rare example of the style actually working with the source material and the stylistic choices being justified rather than pushed onto a script because it was the look of the era. do i think it's perfect? no bc god there are so many scenes in this movie that look genuinely terrible thanks to Ultra-Cyan Color Grading™️! do i think i was harsh on it being too grey and shakycammy. yes.
james newton howard has a very light touch on the scoring and i think the man's very talented. i'm unsure how much of the movie being largely unscored is his choice and how much is gary ross's choice but kudos to both of them. and the sound department (for giving us the classic EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE) for letting digetic sound really shine through and make the movie that much more impactful
josh hutcherson looks like a BABY.
everyone except jennifer lawrence is perfectly cast. not a stinker among them except jennifer lawrence.
that being said the scene where katniss watches peeta confess his crush to caesar flickerman backstage and having a pall of rage form on her face was acted very well and it made me laugh lol
snow originally didn't appear for much time at all in THG, but got little additions in the movie adaptation, so seeing the little rose garden scenes between him and Seneca Crane had me like OUGH THAT'S MY UNHINGED LITTLE GUY. MY UNWELL BOY. and it does beg the question: how much did donald sutherland's performance here and in the other films end up informing what Snow's character would be for TBOSAS?
there is a lot a lot a lot from the trilogy that feels genuinely richer now that i've read TBOSAS. and the worry i had about it being an unnecessary addition; i am so glad it ended up unfounded.
the barnes & noble exclusive edition of TBOSAS has a q&a with suzanne collins at the end of it where she elaborates more on the epigraphs she includes at the beginning of the novel and i HIGHLY recommend people find the edition and read that q&a because not only does it very clearly state her intentions and inspirations for the novel and for Snow's character work but it also gives more context in the form of the classical philosophical literature collins used to write all four of the novels. and it makes going back to any of them that much more interesting because it gives me more to chew on.
watching the matter-of-factness that everyone reacts to all the facets of the hunger games and Capitol control has a lot more impact on and reality to me now after having seen the inception of a lot of those facets in tbosas
"have you ever been to the districts? ten, eleven, twelve?" "no" "i have." Oh I Bet You Have You Motherfucker
the final shot of THG being of Snow.
i live for a good dose of recontextualization in my media so being able to rewatch everything with basically completely fresh eyes has me salivating
taylor swift jumpscare in the credits but i kind of get it now. at least i get putting 2012 tswift onto the soundtrack.
things i HATE about the THG movie as i age:
CENTURY GOTHIC? YOU USED A FUCKING WINDOWS DEFAULT FONT FOR YOUR CREDITS AND OPENING TEXT? CENTURY GOTHIC?

Marilyn Monroe Film Ranking...Round 2!
I know y’all have been itching for my next round of Marilyn Monroe films. The ONLY good thing about such an angel being not alive, is that it is easier to watch all of her films. Assuming you can find them. I got a few for Christmas in 2021, and a gift card to find others! Let’s delve into the ranking!
Tumblr media
Let’s Make Love (1960)
This was a great mix of musicals, acting, story, and so different? The story is also different than you think its going to be. And DAMN marilyn, what she is wearing in the poster is so damn cute. It was like, really a stand out film.
Tumblr media
Some Like It Hot (1959)
This is one of her more iconic films, often viewed in film classes as a slapstick comedy. I laughed quite a bit at this. I love that its black and white film, and it ages well as a cross dressing film from the 50′s and 60′s. Really I love how I watch something that feels original. I really wish this had a sequel, that would of been AMAZING.
Tumblr media
We’re Not Married (1952)
This was so cute. It was an surprise anthology. It starts off and shows 5 couples whose marriage is not legal and fast forwards to where they are now and really each story within has the perfect ending! There is a man in the 50′s wearing an apron and cooking. That is worth its weight in gold.
Tumblr media
Clash By Night (1952)
Really I thought when I first read the back and decided to watch it that marilyn was going to be the lead. She was a side gal, which was interesting to me. But it is a very wholesome character, with some of her cutest down to earth looks that I have ever seen her in. As a film, its a fantastic film. It may be lower on a “marilyn monroe ranking list” but it is an amazing film. Truly.
Tumblr media
All About Eve (1950)
Black and white old beauty! Woooo! The introduction is amazing, with a proper introduction for all the characters and a clear transition into how they got to that moment. So wonderfully clear. It is a story about an actress, and funny enough this is apparently on LGBTQ+ lists, and I can see why. For an older film in a decade from when women were not “dominant”, it is a female driven female dominant cast. A story by women for women with women. Refreshing really. This really is another “marilyn is a side chick gal” and for that reason I rank this lower.
Tumblr media
Let’s Make It Legal (1951)
Another black and white beauty! It is funny to think, there is movies about Divorce, when I thought it was more common now versus then, especially in the 50′s. Marilyn is a side character, the young side gal. I would imagine this was from her “stuck in a contract with the movie studios” phase that puts her in not as good movies. She at one point made her own production company to right this wrong. Cute story, needs more blonde LOL.
Tumblr media
The Asphalt Jungle (1950)
Gah, these black and white films take the heart right out of me. More towards the beginning, compared to the end, of Marilyn’s short film career. Why are there not more black and white films made now a days? This is a Noir, something not often done and not always done well. It is an excellent movie in general, I just wish it had more marilyn in it. That is why it is lower on this list, but a wonderful cinematic experience.
Tumblr media
The Prince And The Showgirl (1957)
This is one her more “controversial” films as this is where she gets her “famous reputation” of coming late, being hard to work with. It is nice to have her pop up on the screen pretty soon into the beginning. A royal ish person falls for the american show girl while on a royal business trip. Set in early 1900′s europe, her costumes are amazing as always. She as a woman, is so ahead of her time, I love her. As I finish writing this, this is last or lower for me personally. She is wonderful, there are some funny things set up and then paid off-but there is kind of a let down from the otherwise “all star cast” that makes this feel like a lower ranking.
There are enough movies I have not seen that I could make a third post. Misfits was in hand when I was making this list, but it would not play on my devices. I might also add some films about Marilyn like Blonde on Netflix and Love, Marilyn. Here is the list, what do you want to see on the next installment: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marilyn_Monroe Which ones have you seen? Which ones have changed your life?

Ms. Marvel Episode 6 Review, Post Credits Scene & Ending Explained
Tumblr media
The end of Ms. Marvel is near. It was a difficult road. The show never managed to find the right tone and place in the vast Marvel Cinematic Universe. Six weeks of the show was filled with stories that did not feel like the best Marvel had to offer. The second half of the episodes must have been the most boring of any Marvel Disney Plus episode. The sixth episode ends with a bang. Marvel is not the only one that will benefit from what happens on the show. What does this episode have to do with the Marvel Cinematic Universe What's the big reveal? It is quite simple to answer. With this episode, Marvel finally allows Mutants to rejoin the fold. For most of the MCU's history, the word mutant was taboo. Every movie and series avoided it like the plague. The origin stories of characters such as Wanda and Pietro varied, which left mutant fans a little confused. When Marvel was nearly done with Chapter 11, they began to sell rights to some of their most valuable properties to movie studios. This is why Sony has Spider-Man and why the X-Men have been part of the 20th Century Fox machine for many years. It was almost certain that the mutants and X-Men would be included in the MCU when Disney purchased Fox a few years back. They are here. This is only the beginning. 'Ms. Marvel's Episode 6 Review: A Ending That Expands The Giant Universe Even More https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4Uvzw9o3V8 MS Marvel Episode 6 Breakdown | Easter Eggs, Post Credits Ending Explained, Review & More! Video Made By HeavySpoilers This is the saddest thing about Ms. Marvel's last episode. Although the episode was not great, it did show potential for how the character should be portrayed in a second season. This episode is where Kamala makes the most of her abilities and where the action is more well directed than any other. They are back as the directors of the first episode, and they proved that they were great at what they did. Episode 2-5 did not have the same energy and confidence. Marvel may be a powerful content producer, but it is just as important to have a voice behind the camera that has vision. Marvel could let these men handle the entire season next year, rather than giving it to people who don't have the right sensibilities for this type of TV series. The direction is much better than previous episodes but the writing is still terrible. It's laughable. It's laughably bad. This writing feels fake and lacks understanding of real-life conversations. This is just when we are talking about dialogue. The episode's plot is a disaster. Numerous storylines have been dropped. The entire setup for characters such as Nakia and Bruno ends up being useless. The final product doesn't seem to have the right resolutions for their stories, making it difficult to understand why they were there.  Marvel Disney Plus is really struggling because they have to follow a rigid template when telling these stories. Episode 6 was the longest episode in the season and didn't feel enough. The acting is as consistent as ever in the series so far. It is serviceable, but nothing more. Vellani continues to be the show's ace in the hole. Even when she has to speak in terrible dialogue, Vellani brings warmth and charisma to her character. Her performance in this episode was a little off. Maybe she was asked to perform things that were unfamiliar to her, but her reactions to the tasks and her delivery weren't right. While the rest of this cast does their jobs well, there are few memorable characters. Kamala's brother Aamir returns after being forgotten throughout the season. He just used to perform an awful rendition Home Alone in a school. Nakia is also given very little time to work out her problems with Kamala and her campaign for the Mosque Council. It felt rushed and incomplete. Like other Marvel TV series, Ms. Marvel was unable to reach the same heights as the movies. Marvel may have perfected the formula for delivering superhero entertainment on the big screen but they are far behind when it comes delivering the same quality in TV. They will continue to improve on this formula. Maybe. SCORE: 7.5/10 Ms. Marvel Episode 6 Rating Ms. Marvel Plot Ending Explained https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTbxCN9RYuM MS MARVEL Ending Explained | Post-Credits Scene Breakdown And Mutants In The MCU? Video Made By HeavySpoilers Ms. Marvel, in her new Muneba-designed costume, and her friends must escape the clutches of a growing Department of Damage Control (DODC) in a final episode that shifts tone. The ragtag crew hides in the local highschool where they battle the militarized government forces with wit, grit. Kamala and her friends ultimately come out on top but a new threat has emerged in Kamran's unbelievable--and understandable--grief. His mother's death and his new abilities make him a risk to himself and others. Kamala convinces him that even though he makes violent mistakes, he can still live a normal life and do well. As she rescues Kamran from the DODC, it's an emotionally charged moment that will last a lifetime. The classic comic-book moment when Kamala is threatened by the DODC, the New Jersey community comes together to defend her. The episode ends with Kamala being celebrated as a hero by TikTok videos and trends. We also see G. Willow Wilson, co-creator of Ms. Marvel, make an appearance. She sits on the roof of her home with her father and he helps her to come up with her super-hero name. Kamala, in Urdu, means wonder .... and Marvel. She's been their Ms. Marvel since childhood. The show's most important reveal is in the last moments of the episode, when Bruno tells Kamala her powers are not what she thought, but rather from her genes. Bruno says that her genes are "different, like a mutation." He reveals that her genes are different, like a mutation. Ms. Marvel Ending Explained In Details It was inevitable that the Ms. Marvel finale would be huge. There were Damage Control and Kamran-shaped loose endings to tie up before the finale. But there was also the question about how it bridged that gap to Kamala’s big-screen debut on 2023's The Marvels. Although some parts of the finale answered questions, others were left open for debate. Kamala might have the name and the suit but she still has plenty to discuss, especially after the credits began rolling. After the credits. You know what you don't know? Ms Marvel Ending - Plot Interrogations It might be safe to say that the Ms. Marvel Episode 6 Post-credits scene is the best out of all of the Marvel Disney+ series. So if you haven’t watched the finale yet, you are missing out. The final episode of Ms. Marvel Season 1 wrapped up Kamala Khan’s origin story, and the ending set up her future. That's why after watching it many questions still remain to be answered. Is Ms. Marvel a mutant? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GpES1FWF1o X-MEN MUTANTS EASTER EGG CONFIRMED! Ms Marvel Episode 6 Ending & Post Credit Explained Video Made By The Cosmic Wonder Kamala's origins have been finally revealed. Bruno, Kamala's best friend, revealed the truth to her. Bruno has been studying her genetics since she was granted her superhuman abilities. Episode 2 revealed that the bangle had unlock some latent abilities. But it wasn't until the finale that he found the answers to her genetics. Bruno says, "So I went back to your genetic makeup again." "I think it might have been wrong the first time. We now know why you have the Noor and how it works, but something was still off when I compared you with the rest of my family. Kamala, you have something special in your genes. It's like a mutation. Yes, the credits confirm that this was The X Men '97 theme he used to say. This big reveal is huge in the MCU. It marks the first major appearances of mutants in this universe. Charles Xavier was seen in Doctor Strange: The Multiverse of Madness. Mutants are people who possess the X-Gene within their DNA. This activates during puberty and unlocks superhuman abilities. Marvel boss Kevin Feige hinted at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019 that mutants would be included in the MCU. Now it has. Like us, Kamala star Imanvellani was shocked to learn the twist. She emailed Marvel head Feige in all capital letters. Vellani stated that Marvel.com opened in a new tab. I wrote Kevin Feige in all caps. I was like, "Are you really doing this?" Are you sure? It's an honor! It was almost like I was shouting at him via email. I was panicking. This is the largest deal in the world and it's happening on our show is insane." Are there mutants in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? They didn't exist until now! To keep it simple, when the MCU began in 2008, all rights to Marvel's mutant characters were part of the MCU's feature film rights. Fox owned the X-Men. This meant that mutants couldn't appear in Marvel Studios movies. And when they did, like Quicksilver or Scarlet Witch, their powers had to explained using a different origin. Disney bought Marvel and all the superheroes it had access to. We have been waiting for a while to find out how Marvel Studios would incorporate mutants into the dense mythology of Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now we have our first clue. Kamala Khan looks like the MCU's first mutant. Alternate reality Charles Xavier aside. But she might not be the last. Although it hasn't been confirmed, you can search "Wakanda Forever", and "Tenoch Huerta" for light spoilers. Captain Marvel 2: How Ms Marvel's Post Credit Scene Works ? Marvel is still able to navigate a scene after the credits. One last shocking Ms Marvel twist: Kamala Khan's bracelet emits an unusual glow and Iman Vellani suddenly becomes Captain Marvel. Brie Larson is confused to find herself in a bedroom of a teenage girl. Kamala's time travel exploits have shown us that the Clandestine bracelet somehow connects with other objects, dragging its owner through time to where the second relic may be. Although the visual effect in Ms Marvel is quite different, logic would suggest Captain Marvel was studying a companion for Kamala's bracelet.  This is because Brie Larson was last seen in the MCU looking into Shang Chi's Ten Rings. It has been long believed that they share a link to Ms Marvel. Carol has apparently switched Kamala for the Clandestine bracelet and warped Kamala with it. If that hypothesis is true, Kamala could be anywhere in the universe. Best case scenario? Avengers HQ (unlikely this is Captain Marvel). Worst case scenario? The middle of an alien warzone. Although so much is still unknown, the Ms Marvel post credits scene finally establishes a connection between Carol Danvers & Kamala Khan. The Captain and the Ms are now interconnected, regardless of whether Carol has to rescue Kamala from the hellscape she dropped her into or if Danvers simply apologizes and then goes on his way. From where did Captain Marvel get his inspiration? Ms. Marvel Post-credits scene was added to the Ms. Marvel ending. Kamala is lying on her back, and her bangle glows. She goes to check it and the energy knocks her through her closet door. Captain Marvel emerges in her place. What is the matter? It looks like Kamala has swapped places with Captain Marvel, and Carol is being replaced by whatever has begun affecting the bangle. You can see the energy she is emitting from her fingertips. They are suspiciously the same as the energy she was emitted from her bangle moments before. Carol last saw us in the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings post-credits scene. She was leading a meeting with Wong and Shang-Chi as well as Katy and Hulk regarding an ancient, mysterious power source. This could be a tie-in or, more likely, the answers are found in 2023’s The Marvels. It stars Kamala Khan and Carol Danvers, as well as WandaVision's Monica Rambeau AKA Photon. This scene will be the starting point for the big-screen adventure, which is due out in July. What Happens to Captain Marvel in The Ms. Marvel Finale ? As we mentioned, Ms. Marvel is about Kamala Khan's personal story and character development. Captain Marvel is not going to be involved with a story about her titular character. We also mentioned her appearance in the Ms. Marvel finale. What happens to Captain Marvel at the Ms. Marvel finale? Captain Marvel doesn't appear in the Ms. Marvel finale because she wasn't involved in the whole problem Kamala and her friends got into. She did however appear in the Ms. Marvel post-credits scene in what was one the most surprising Marvel series surprises. Kamala Khan was seen in that scene lying down on her back while still wearing her superhero suit. It seems that she was returning home from patrolling the streets in her new role as Ms. Marvel. She notices that her bangle glows strangely and she seems to be acting in a way she is unfamiliar with. The bangle then takes her to her closet, and she vanishes. Carol Danvers was also perplexed by the events that just occurred. This suggests that Kamala and Carol swapped places due to the strange effects of the bangle. We don't know much about it except that it comes out of the Light This scene in which Captain Marvel appears in Ms. Marvel’s place could be a sign that the two characters will eventually become connected during The Marvels. The bangle decided to swap Kamala's spot with Carol's. This could indicate that there is some kind of connection between them. Because there are many things we do not know about this bangle, we don't really know much. We do know that Captain Marvel (and Ms. Marvel) will eventually collaborate in The Marvels movie. What happened to Damage Control ? After discovering that Kamran also had superpowers, Damage Control spent much of the finale following Kamran. The group is disappointed when Kamala intervenes to save Kamran and provide him with a route to New Jersey Docks. Deever, the Damage Control Agent, is left to clean up after the accident. However, Agent Cleary quickly suspends her superior (Agent Cleary who briefly appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home). A second unit is then brought in to clean up the mess at Coles High School. What does this mean for Damage Control? It's not likely that they'll be put on ice. We know that they will be appearing in some way in August's She Hulk series. The trailer showed the Supermax prison, which was first shown in Ms. Marvel. Cleary could lead the charge. Expect them to be a low-level problem for superheroes in years to come. Kamran was never found. Who smuggled Kamran out of Jersey City ? Kamran was granted abilities at episode 5 without the ability of controlling them. As Damage Control chases him, he struggles even more in the season finale. Kamala, Bruno and their friends attempt to rescue him as Kamala asks for help from the Red Daggers. Kamran is captured by Kamala and she asks Kareem to help him escape the city. He agrees and tells her to get him to the harbor before midnight. Kamran is not impressed. He wants to reunite his mother and ClanDestines. The town is rocked by Kamala's powers, which leads to a standoff. As he walks towards the harbor, he is told by his mother to make it better. Kamram is not seen again. It's unclear who he takes or how he escapes.  It seems almost certain that he will be with the Red Dagger, thanks to Kareem's assistance. Waleed (Farhan Akhatar) may be a potential savior. He did appear to die at the end episode 4, but the actor said that it may not be his last in the MCU. It's possible that Ms. Marvel will return for season 2. Kamran could also be back, as he teased his future with Marvel.com (opens in new tab). Rish Shah, actor, says he doesn't know what the future holds but that there are many possibilities with Red Daggers. He said, "It's cool that he ends up there because there's so much scope for these character," All of them, both within the MCU and Kamala’s journey and her story. It is clear to me that he's not a bad person. Is Ms. Marvel able to use her comic-book powers? Some fans were furious about Ms. Marvel's retcon of Kamala’s stretchy 'embiggen’ powers before it aired. However, the show has merely altered the style, while adding a few touches of its own. Ms. Marvel's bangle, instead of being an Reed Richards-style ability allows her to create organic material, which can manifest in many different ways. As we see in the final, one of these ways is to 'embiggen, or to allow Ms. Marvel' to grow very tall and extend her limbs. Ms. Marvel now has all her powers from comic books. Marvel Studios chose to take them in a different direction by Kamala. What is the Noor Dimension? In episode 3, Ms. Marvel by Najma mentioned the Noor dimension. This information, which has never been seen in the MCU before, is new and links back to the established MCU canon, The Djinn. The djinn or genies are mystical beings who inhabit the Noor dimension. This dimension is said to be an alternate dimension from the one Earth exists in. The Noor dimension is their home. In particular, Ms. Marvel is its home. Genies are usually connected to an object. They must serve the object's owner and cannot do anything until it is destroyed or found. However, they can have powerful powers that allow them to grant wishes. It all depends on how the djinn handles it. What is the connection between Ms. Marvel, Djinn, and the MCU? Ms. Marvel or Kamala Khan has acquired her superhero powers through a bracelet that she received from her great-grandmother. Kamala's family is not forthcoming with any information regarding the ancestor of this power. This bangle links Ms. Marvel to her djinn connection in the MCU. This is a significant difference from Ms. Marvel's comic book counterpart, who has polymorph abilities such as the ability to grow, lengthen, and change her body size, among other abilities. Ms. Marvel can instead manipulate the 'purple-harad-light' in the live action version in a manner similar to Green Lantern characters. The bangle was sent to Pakistan. It is clear that the link backs to other Marvel heroes like Captain Marvel or Monica Rambeau is obvious, as the visual effects and lighting up of their eyes by a cosmic aura are very similar. The djinn can bestow powers on or receive mystical energy by harnessing mystical energy. Episode 2 revealed that the bangle didn't give her the powers. It seems more like she unlocked dormant abilities. Future episodes will provide more information, but it is probable that Ms. Marvel is an Inhuman, prehistoric human experimented upon by the Kree, who discovered life via Uranus. This was how she appeared in the comic book, but the MCU version appears to push her more as a Djinn. Ms. Marvel was told by her great-grandmother that she had found a way to return to the Noor dimension via the bangle in 1942. The power of the djinn on MCU Earth has been diminished as they no longer have the ability to significantly slow down the aging process. For members of the Djinn on Earth, this means that the bracelet can be used to return to the Noor dimension. Najma went to Kamala’s brother's wedding in order to retrieve the bracelet. Ms. Marvel's research also indicated that the portal opening back to Noor could cause massive damage to Earth. Many MCU stories feature the djinn, including the ClanDestine canon that involves Adam Destine and Elalyth. Elalyth, after a farm accident, restored Adam's health, and blessed him with a destiny of great destiny. This eventually led to Elalyth destroying the object Elalyth was trapped in. They fell in love, and had many children. Adam was also granted immortality and invulnerability at that point. His children all received mystical powers and extraordinary long lives. Although the stories of the children of the union have been explored in many comic books, not all children have been given backstories. The Ms. Marvel series offers the opportunity to introduce lesser-known characters. Fan theories suggest that Ms. Marvel may be related to ClanDestine, which is possible. Read the full article

having some thoughts about the end of shineva 3+1 😄 I can’t put everything into words properly but i really enjoyed this movie. it may not ave been perfect but i loved a lot of things about it. i dont expect anyone to read this i just wanna dump my thoughts even if it’s unorganized. this is not really anything you should take seriously and i may or may not repeat things I already said in this but my memory is very bad and i like to reiterate things. this is also my first attempt at posting on tumblr. the song below is what i was listening to while writing this terribly long “analysis”? “infodump”? whatever this would be called
first, about asuka
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this scene in particular really stood out to me because we finally know why asuka acts the way she acts. shinji saying “i liked you too” was also pretty powerful because it shows his growth and they finally both moved on and she got closure. the curse of eva is gone.
Tumblr media
shes always been a loner. in the rebuilds particularly, she is aware she is a clone of the true asuka. she’s convinced herself she doesn’t need anybody to help her. her mom was distant and her dad never there. when kensuke takes her in after shinji nearly causes the third impact, she’s finally accepted and loved for the first time. kensuke is the father figure she never had. mari also truly loved her for who she was as well, calling her pet names like princess and your highness. i thought that was sweet. honestly i dont have much to say about asuka right now but i love her anyway.
shinji (this one is long)

it was very moving when shinji finally reconciled with gendo. he finds out his father was just like him. he was on the path to being like gendo but instead of constantly grieving over kaworus death, he snaps himself out of it and finally accepts the fact. unlike gendo who eternally grieves over yui and cost all of earth to suffer for it. he couldn’t love shinji because he didn’t know how. he was so hyper focused on yui that it blinded him from what was important. that was his escape. in the part before they fight in the imaginary world, shinji cant go near him because of gendos AT field. he was afraid of his own son. skipping ahead because there’s so much to talk about, shinji abolishes all evangelions after saying farewell to rei and is alone sitting at the beach, but this time the ocean is restored to blue. he reconciled with everyone (gendo, asuka, rei, and kaworu). but something (someone) is missing. the animation decomposes to sketches. then an evangelion comes out of the water. mari falls out, and says something along the lines of “i told you I’d come back for you” (i dont exactly remember what she said) but at that moment everything returns to color and full animation. she came back for him as she promised. considering she’s a rebuild exclusive character she is the only one shinji doesn’t reminisce with. she represents moving on from the past, going to a new future.

ok so now for my train scene analysis. i admit i was not a fan of mari at first because i saw her as an unnecessary fanservice character that served nothing to the plot. as i explained just above there is more to her than was initially shown, even if she didn’t have much screentime. the picture above was very sad to watch(in a good way) though, she grabs shinjis hand and leads him to a new world, without evangelion. my interpretation is that this happens right after the beach scene. shinji wakes in a bench at a train station after the curse is completely lifted and he is an adult as he should be. on the other side of the tracks there is the original cast. the train has always been significant in the original series and the rebuilds too. it was shinjis way of escapism, to run away in his mind. this time around everyone is outside of the train, most likely representing he’s not gonna run away anymore, he has no reason to. as i said above, he wakes up immediately after the beach scene. so mari comes in and takes off his DSS collar, the symbol of his duty of piloting an eva and the weight of his “sin”. she puts it in her pocket, and i feel like thats her acknowledging his trauma but still accepting him as a person. they exchange a few lines. mari is by nature, flirtatious, and I believe shinji reciprocating that shows his growth, really. he is more confident than he was (unlike in NGE where he is kind of a wimpy pushover). so anyways, mari reaches out her hand. right now, theyre still in the anti-verse, hence the characters who have left are only just across the tracks. he wouldn’t have met them without the circumstances of eva. but shinji has already said goodbye and gladly takes mari’s hand to the outside of the station, where there is now footage of anno’s hometown. the message to the audience is that the true end of evangelion has finally happened and it is totally behind anno himself. whether or not the audience will put evangelion behind them is up to them. I know i wont be over this series anytime soon… and since this ending is up to interpretation i also want to believe that in the new universe shinji crosses path with his old friends again…

to end this shinji segment he is actually one of my favorite characters in the series and i relate to him to some degree (embarrassing moment…)
now about rei ayanami
Tumblr media Tumblr media
she was definitely my favorite in this movie. the way she learned human emotion and hard work… the way she tried to think for herself instead of only doing what she was told… learning names of emotions and finding out who she is, i was broken when rei exploded into LCL. the note she left for hikari, “good night good morning thank you good bye” was just 😔💔😢😂😭👍
when she realizes she is running out of time, she goes to shinji, who has yet to overcome his emotions at a place that was formerly NERV(if I remember correctly). she asks him if he has thought of a new name for her and he says “you’ll always be ayanami”. she is content with this answer. one of her final words are “i wanted to spend more time with the boy i loved”. this is shinji. earlier asuka told her the ayanami series is programmed to love the ikaris and want to take care of them. rei doesn’t mind this either. I will always love rei and she didn’t deserve any of this…
now about kaworu
Tumblr media
he is easily one of the most misunderstood characters in evangelion. people see him as manipulative but in reality he is the opposite. he is the only one who told shinji he loved him. at first, when he fell in love with shinji, that was him falling in live with humanity. shinjis fragile nature and heart, as an alien kaworu knew nothing of human emotions. shinji helped him realize what they were. his sacrifice and taking on shinjis first DSS choker was proof of this. in the original TV series, kaworu does a similar sacrifice so shinji can save humanity, but thats something for another day…his character is emphasized in 3+1 as well and i will talk about it.
Tumblr media
in his confrontation scene, shinji speaks to kaworu on the dream train. kaworu notices how shinji has changed and shinji says that he can handle pain and heartbreak now. he won’t cry anymore and let himself be weighed down by the past. the scene then cuts to the beach where they first met, with shinji saying he knows this is a significant place, even if doesn’t remember meeting him there for the first time. kaworu says he is just like shinji. shinji says then that means you’re like my father. that line confused me a bit, but then I realized kaworu and shinji parallels gendo and yui. kaworu went through time and time again to make sure shinji could be happy. like how gendo hoped to attain instrumentality and reunite with yui in a better world. (Honestly i have some events mixed up in the wrong order but that doesn’t change much) kaworu then says their names are in the book of life so they’ll keep on meeting again and again. kaji appears to talk to kaworu and says that kaworu wanted shinjis happiness so he could be happy. after talking for a bit, kaworu appears to shinji near their piano room and tells him he is sorry. he misunderstood his happiness. as a kawoshin shipper…. I am happy with this type of closure. kaworu learns that shinji doesn’t need to be dependent on him for them to love each other and that his own self fulfillment should come first before devoting himself to someone else. I’m coping so hard right now..!!
i think i wrote enough for now… i have a lot of thoughts and theres more i wanna say… but this should be fine.
