Mag Safe Technology
So I recently decided to finally upgrade my phone. I tend to use a phone, or any major piece of technology for a long time. I have loved Apple as a company, but find they make much bigger "quality of life" changes to their technology every couple of years-not every year.
Tumblr media
Wireless technology increases in quality so quickly. I remember my last phone, I was shocked that they changed the charging port. This time we have a new port, in my iPhone 15, and so much more wireless charging and accessories. But this post is more about Magsafe than Apple.
I have noticed Magsafe before, they were big with Pop Sockets. On my last phone, I had a case with a removable Pop Socket holder to put it on my wireless charging base. But otherwise, my Pop Socket was crucial to putting my phone up when I drive.
Tumblr media
So, when I got my new phone I got a Magsafe case. Cases, while they are overpriced in some ways, are helpful and these days are much more tested and sturdy than they used to be. I continued to use the stretch band pop socket and my general wireless charging base. I started looking around at the Magsafe Pop sockets and picked one up, it was kind of pricey-but where it ended up sitting on the case, made for much better use of the phone. From that combination alone, I was like damn. It clicked right on, clicked right off, and fits wonderfully in my car holder.
Tumblr media
So I was really happy with that and telling my sister she needed that herself. Like I may just get her one for her birthday. Then my wireless charger died, and it charges my phone and watch and wireless headphones so I was not thrilled. I was looking around online for a new charger, and found a really neat one for not a bad price. So, its wireless charging for phone in front, watch on top, and wireless headphones in back. But the really nifty thing is that the part that charges the phone is a power bank, a Magsafe power bank! That I can place on to charge the power bank itself, but I can also take it with me for those (now rare) days where my phone needs the extra bit of juice. I have a power bank in my purse already, Anker has been amazing to me. But just that seamless integration of technology, impressive.
Tumblr media
If you have an apple product, I would highly suggest using this fellow apple product with it. Wireless charging is not only an apple thing, it is an android thing too, but this is has been one of the first new modern changes that I could appreciate for a long time. Have you used magsafe products?

My Infertility Journey: Part 6
There are so many things I thought I would not do again and yet here I am. Hope is a dangerous thing. Eggs are here, now the question of...Should I carry or not?
Tumblr media
To Catch Up:
Part 5
Part 4
Part 3
Part 2
Part 1
October 2023:
So. Egg retrieval came, eggs went to testing, body came back. The body when it comes back comes back sooner and with a vengeance. The body feels like it did not complete the first one because the eggs were taken out and it starts again. That cycle tends to be one of the heavier ones. Doctor put me on Birth Control, Enskyce, to calm the factory down while we wait for the results of the embryo grading. I also transferred my embryo from Egg Retrieval #1 to join its new sibling embryo at the new office. Embryo transfer was $250, and a little nerve racking.
My partner goes to a new chiropractor, his wife specializes in fertility. My partner forced me to speak to her, Dr Alicia McDonough of Good Health & Wellness Chiropractic. Partners out there, don't force your partner to do something-let them do it when it makes sense to them and trust them. Anyways, here are the results of the consultation:
What is red light therapy? From what she said, it was using lights to increase blood flow to help heal the body naturally. Need to look more into this.
Do I consume 120-130 grams of protein per day? I ran the numbers, my normal routine put me at about 100. By doubling up the amount of protein powder in my AM/Lunch smoothie, I hit 120, and any other snacks would be protein bonuses.
Adding resistance training? I do 30 minutes a day, I need to look at what that is resistance training and possibly up 30 to 45 minutes by adding 15 minutes of resistance training.
Trading CoQ10 for Ubiquinol? I am on CoQ10 as a prenatal but also help with migraine management. I was told Ubiquinol is the more effective version of that, apparently vitamins are the tip of the iceberg and supplements are better than vitamins. I was told Ubiquinol was sold at Coscto, but I did not see it. This makes for better egg quality, which assumes a third round of making eggs in the future.
DHEA testing, and MTHFR testing? Yes. How did these tests get missed?
Future possibility: track my own cycle at home with ovation sticks (determine my cycle peak), track my temperature in the morning (figure out if I run warm or cold), get the endometriosis confirmed and cleaned up surgically (how and who does that?), Recover, Use red light therapy, and try to have kids on my own on a year off if IVF fails? To confirm endo: Laparoscopy and laparotomy. Recovery is usually 6 weeks (almost 2 months).
Future Possibility #2: If Egg Retrieval #2 does not work, maybe I should focus on egg quality vs quantity. Question then becomes, do I work with Dr. Mcdonough on that? Does she tell me what to tell my IVF doctor? Is that IVF?
Present Question: If my eggs are indicative of what I was doing 4 months ago, was I in an ok place 4 months ago for ER #2? I started low fodmap and exercise in July, ER #2 was in September, so May? Maybe.
Past Question: Based on the 4 month assumption being right, what about ER #1? In 2020? Are low quality eggs why no embryo from ER#1 has made it? I transferred the last embryo from ER #1, is it worth implanting then?
The consultation was $50. She mentioned mindset being important, and not thinking you are the issue. This is where I am going to disagree with her, while I would not have chosen to be this burden on my partner financially and every other way-there is a small part of this I can own. Once you own it, you can take control of it. I could of doubted my parent and checked it out myself. She mentioned weight not being an issue, while that was nice to hear-its not entirely true. We agreed a strong body can be a healthy body and the overall weight number isn't the end all be all. It was interesting, but not much help on the current path. More a future path, but I am too close to the current path to see beyond the woods.
Back to the current path, the enskyce started to give me migraines and nausea. I switched, with approval, and waited for the PGT results. Once those are in, we do an uterine evaluation and endoscratch prior to my transfer cycle. We received the results: the one embryo that made it was abnormal/aneuploid. We had a follow up appointment with our doctor to discuss next steps.
We spoke with Dr J Lin. He was shocked at our results. I was told to stop taking Birth Control, and call on the first day of my next cycle. Based on Egg Retrieval #2 results, and looking at an ultrasound today-it was advised to check back in after a month of no hormones to start Egg Retrieval #3. Egg Retrieval #3 would be longer (despite the fact that ER#2 was already longer than normal) and more days of Menopur. Financial department would call me with an estimate for ER#3 and I was advised to take the prenatal vitamins and supplements-as he confirmed your eggs are a reflection of the last 3 months. I stopped Birth Control. I also started to take my temperature daily and using Premom app/thermometer to determine some of my own data. I also started to do at home: red light therapy, cervical spine traction device, and a tens machine.
Tumblr media
November 2023:
Next cycle was estimated for 4 weeks from the appointment-around the 4th week of November. Between the holidays and everything else-we decided to take the rest of the year off. It was nice to be able to enjoy the holidays.
Tumblr media
December 2023:
I started the learning curve of gathering and understanding the data from my cycles using daily Basal Body Temperature checks and LH checks. In October, I also initiated the transfer of Eggs from ER#1 to join the eggs from ER#2 and found out that never got completed. So we decided in January to revisit that when everyone was back to work.
Tumblr media
January 2024:
New year, same fight. I gathered 3 months of data using Premom, it is pretty interesting. We also picked up where we left off in the Egg Transfer. I forgot how many abnormal embryos I had, and wondered why they were even being stored if no one really had a good argument for implanting them? My partner wanted to keep them, based on a suggestion from a family friend, but honestly it did not make sense to me. But, as they are my eggs-we had to choose to dissolve them and sign the paperwork to do so.
In my head there were a couple of things at play. First of all, this would be year 5 or year 6 of trying to have a kid, and I was really worried about doing this for 10 years and having nothing to show for it and having that change me (for the worse). That being said, I have yet to give up so the options were: try an implant with the new office, implant an embryo into a stranger, or try for more eggs. While I know, if I choose to continue this journey I can't avoid another ER, getting 0 from ER#2 was (and still does) suck. Once we finally had the eggs of play in place, we met with the doctor to discuss next steps.
February 2024:
So it was arranged for Cryoport transported my embryos from Ovation Fertility in Newport Beach to Reproductive Fertility Care in Irvine, CA. Transport went well, thank goodness. Next order of business was to dissolve the abnormals at Ovation Fertility. I was quite torn about dissolving them. But its hard to make a case to keep them. I closed out the account, and I am glad I did. The way that company acted towards me, with my objects, was not ok.
March 2024:
I was put on Birth Control to calm my system down and on the day we would have implanted on that cycle, we decided to do a Mock Embryo Transfer, SIS, and Ultrasound. That went well. Upon the next cycle start, we set an implant date for the last normal embryo in our storage.
April 2024:
Next cycle came and we did a prenatal blood draw and ultrasound. The ultrasound looked good. Started taking a mix of pills, patches, injections, and suppositories. At first there were no injections, which was nice time to prepare the body for them. Closer to implant the injections started in the back for progesterone and in the front for blood thinners. We also did 1 round of Intralipids before the implant. I was going to implant both my mosaic and normal but ended up being talked out of it. On implant day we arrived 30 minutes early, I started filling up my bladder 1 hour before the actual appointment time. Implant went perfectly. Came home and rested and eased into my new normal. Went in for the blood test almost 2 weeks later and found out the implant did not take, my hCG levels were less than 1-and those values should double every day (and be like 5-10 value). The only positive in this sad time is that a failed implant is a failed implant, because it did not take-it does not count as a miscarriage.
Me and my partner decided to remove me from the equation as far as carrying goes. I am going to recover, he's going to work and save money. I am 32 years old this year, by the time we get to 35-40...we are in trouble if we don't have results - as far as my body goes. So if I can get one more Egg Retrieval done after rest by 35, and let someone else carry it-we can still make this happen. It is pretty amazing how many years can go by trying to do this thing though, this is year 5/6 for us so far.
Ya know it's a funny thing, the longer I do this-the less self conscious I feel about it? Like before I would be all worried for anyone to know I was too busy because of an injection, and while I boldly share this via text-I still kind of keep it private ish? It is funny how things change in such a short amount of time, just a couple of years ago I was terrified to even jump in.

Now Experiencing: College Tours
My sister, and my cousin, are in college right now. Honestly, they are doing college the way I wished I had done college. As I am no longer a student, always in my mind but not stuck to one institution, I am helping them both and getting to relive my college experience through them.
Tumblr media
My Background:
I did very well in elementary school, middle school, and high school. I graduated a scholar with honors from Edison High School. Early in my high school experience, I fell in love with FIDM. I remember, I was in a class researching colleges and looked at all the flags on the wall and at the end was a boot. What the boot? I have a very good knack for design and fashion and building and branding. I got accepted my 2nd year of high school. My first year of college was a massive slap in the face. I should of switched majors to marketing, but I stuck to it. I use parts of my degree today, but I have a couple of regrets on how I went about my college experience. What I would do differently if I could:
I would try a class in high school or even community college during summer and see if you really like it or the idea of it.
I would really shop around more, and ask students that actually went there what is true and not true about what the college claims to do.
At the end of the day, I use my college not in a direct way-any job I have had that was utilizing my direct experience got me fired. Funny I know. I ended up falling into the family legacy of real estate and have done well for myself all things considered.
My College Experience (Living Vicariously):
I graduated college in 2012, that is now 12 years ago. My younger family members are currently in community college. One wants to get into accounting and the other wants to get into a plant major. So, when my sister was like, "Tour colleges?" "Hell Yeah!". I skipped that step, at least actually comparing colleges. We toured 3, me with two different majors in mind:
UCI: University of California Irvine-Now, I am sure this is a great school. But to me and my sister-this felt like a bad movie set of a movie we did not want to watch. Huge campus, walking tour of almost 2 hours. Growing and under construction too. I was ok with it for my cousin, they had a great looking greenhouse. But I was meh for my sister. We had to pay for parking.
CPP: Cal Poly Pomona: I had my BIL friend graduate from here and already knew of it and was so excited for this one after Irvine. It is a great fit for either accounting or plants. It was so pretty. It was a very good price, not much more than Fullerton but less than Irvine. I believe parking was free for this one.
UCF: University of California Fullerton-We were actually going to just go with Pomona but an associate of mine said to at least consider Fullerton. For accounting, the piece of paper is so much more important-plus all the aspects that modern employers demand of young working youth. Fullerton is in a great location, good size school, good budget, and so much bang for your buck. You had to pay for parking.
Why were we looking at these? These are the schools that they can get into with an AA (special for transfer). Things I was considering was: how likely were they going to be involved in activities, the people that would be around them, the education itself, the location compared to where they live, the price. I love Fullerton for my sister and Pomona for my cousin. It was also kind of funny, kind of sad, but so many parents were there with their kids for the tours! I don't remember mine doing that, and me and my sister were usually the only non parent child group. But I had a blast doing it, and I suggest everyone shop around when making a decision that will change, for better or worse, the rest of your life. I would gladly do that for anyone that needs it again!

Fallout: The Game and now...The Show!
Did you guys think I would leave you hanging? Of course, I am going to do a post about the game turned into a show. This is a very classic game with an interesting history!
Tumblr media
Fallout (The Game):
Even having never played it-I know the basis of the game through cultural osmosis. In an alternative reality, in the idyllic 50/60's the world gets hit with multiple nuclear blasts. So any reference to culture is the 50/60's. But after the nukes you are in post-apocalyptic America where everyone is trying to survive and thrive. You have the vault dwellers, and then the surface dwellers. The gist of the storyline is a vault dweller has to go to the surface for a part and see's the world they are never told about.
The history of the game franchise itself is interesting. It starts off in 97 as a computer game. Then it becomes a console game for Fallout 1 and 2. In 2008 it is purchased by Bethesda, and it turns from strategy to first person shooter/open world game. Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 become their own revival. Followed by Fallout Vegas and 76. There are 9 games in total, some are more like strategy and the majority are fps/open world rpg. I am not sure of the chronological vs story order-I may go more into that if I play it. It seems to be a Xbox game primarily.
Fallout (The Show):
Good cast, good set. It feels very much like a show that pays homage to the game without being such a strict retelling of the game storyline, like the Mario movie was. But unlike FNAF, it its kind of explaining things about the universe in a cinematic way. It is treated in every respect, down to the music-like a movie. Each episode is about an hour long.
The story generally is you follow a vault dweller as she leaves to look for her father on the surface after a raid, you follow a surface dweller in the brotherhood, and a ghoul who has ties to the background story as they chase a bounty. In a post apocalyptic world, each group in power is fighting to "fix America". So you see power struggles, growth of people as they are exposed to worlds nearby but so far away, and an otherwise fantastic world build. Story has secrets and as soon as you think you know what's going on-there's a new angle to consider.
On this trend of games turning into viewing experiences, I am here for it. Great show, this is doing well enough I would bet money that a second season could be in the works for next year. I also hear Fallout 5 is in the works-who knows what could be the same or similar between both of those coming out? Have you watched this yet? Would you be a surface dweller or a vault dweller in this alternative universe?

Nintendo Switch: Fallout Shelter
So I started watching Fallout on Amazon Prime, and it reminded me of a Fallout game I had on my Nintendo Switch. While most gamers have heard of the games that have been around forever, like Fallout, I had never played it myself.
Tumblr media
Fallout Shelter puts you in control of a state-of-the-art underground Vault from Vault-Tec. Build the perfect Vault, keep your Dwellers happy, and protect them from the dangers of the Wasteland. More info here: Fallout Shelter/Nintendo Switch/eShop Download
My Thoughts On The Game:
This game makes much more sense after watching the show or playing one of the main story line games. But this game on switch is a free download! You are an overseer, you run a vault full of people. It is up to you to house and feed and take care of them, while repopulating the world too. It took me a couple of vaults to get the strategy down but I can offer some tips and tricks I learned:
Take notes of who mates with who, families don't procreate together
I would have 1-2 people per room and pair males with females so they can get to know each other.
You can combine rooms, but I found having more than one smaller rooms meant you had utilities coming at various times
Once you have the first people come, you need to make the rest of your people.
You can't move a room once you place it.
Upgrade the rooms when you can.
Once you have things going well, send couples off (up to 2 at a time) to add more members.
Check everyone's health.
Upgrade the door to prevent raiders from coming in, arm someone on every level.
I really like the game so far. Could you run a vault? I dare you to try! Keep an eye out for a post about the show coming up!

FNAF: The Game and now...The Movie!
I am old enough that games that were small, have sequels and prequels, and now have merchandise in Hot Topic, and is now a movie! Let's talk Five Nights At Freddy's!
Tumblr media
First off, let's talk about the games that made this cinematic experience a reality! The game goes back to 2014 and it started as an indie game. Youtubers, I usually remember Markiplier being one of the lesser known names at the time to play it, made it huge. And then, occulus rift was just coming out now-crazy I know has since then that has blown up too. But this was one of first iconic games for that, the systems back then used to be expensive! (They still kind of are, but I almost got one for my nephew so not that bad.)
The story is you are a security guard for a no longer in business chuck e cheese essentially called Freddy's Fazbear's Pizza. You realize you are there to guard the animatronics and eventually learn why that is. It expands to so much more, here is a full list of games in the series:
Five Nights At Freddy's
Five Nights At Freddy's 2
Five Nights At Freddy's 3
Five Nights At Freddy's 4
Pizzeria Simulator
Ultimate Custom Night
Help Wanted
Special Delivery
Security Breach
For more information, click here: Five Nights at Freddy's - Wikipedia. From game to movie, let's goooooo!
Five Nights At Freddy's (2023)
Honestly, I was excited for this movie when it came out. I heard generally more bad than good things about it, and I was like-huh, could it have been that bad? Fast forward some time later, I find it on Amazon Prime. Me and my partner watch it, and I know of the game-he does not. We both really end up liking it. Good intro, they really brought the game to life and honored the bigger aspects of the FNAF world into the movie and plot. Good actors, kind of long, but it was a very enjoyable experience and I would watch it again with anyone who hasn't seen it. While this was more for the fan's that know the saga, the ones that don't can still mostly follow. The movie doesn't explain any mechanics of the game that are in the movie, but I am glad it doesn't.
It is funny how one thing inspires another and it inspires another. My FNAF is my nephew's Poppy Play Time. I would recommend the games, if you are not jumpy like me, and for sure recommend the movie. Has anyone else seen it? Who else love the trend of video games becoming movies?

Hay House: Unlock The Secrets of Card Reading (Day 4)
Last day! Let's hope this goes out with a bang! How have you liked this so far?
Tumblr media
Today we have "Connecting with Your Soul and Its Guidance for You" featuring Rebecca Campbell, Abiola Abrams, and Kyle Gray.
Connecting with your soul: are you listening to your soul and do you know how to? The inner fear voice wants to keep your safe, it sounds different than intuition. How does your intuition speak to you? Everyone's intuition speaks differently. Keep an intuition diary. Read cards with certainty. Writing is a great way to connect. All the answers we are seeking are within us. All people are co creators with the universe.
This was a pretty cool glimpse into the paid course, anyone interested in learning about card reading-I would highly suggest this. It is a little basic for me, but who doesn't love a one stop shop. Would you consider this course?

Hay House: Unlock The Secrets of Card Reading (Day 3)
Day 3 of 4! The title, foretelling your future, interesting to me as it seems this is what most people think cards should do for you-when in reality they do so much more.
Tumblr media
Today we have "Foretelling Your Future: If You Can See It, You Can Change It" featuring Radleigh Valentine, Sandra Anne Taylor, Rev. Sharon Anne Klingler, and Krystal Banner
Foretelling your future: The future is not set in stone, you have free will. You have the opportunity to change anything you want to change. There are fated meetings, but you chose this life for certain reasons. Future predicting comes from trends and trend tendencies. Everything and everyone is connected. The future exists in energetic potential. Deja Vu is an important concept in card reading. Every time you flip a card, you discover energetic potential. Things change when you change your consciousness. Rephrase the questions so you are asking cards one question at a time. Ask a vague question, you get a vague answer. It is not bad to start a session off. Ask what is on your heart and mind. There is not a right or wrong way to shuffle.
This video was not interactive, but more informative and was my favorite so far! Tomorrow is the last day, the idea of the course they are trying to sell you is kind of growing on me slowly. Would you take a card reader more seriously if they were certified? Would it matter who certified them?

Hay House: Unlock The Secrets of Card Reading (Day 2)
Day 2! While I feel like this is a bit short, it is a free sneak peek-so I get it! But loving what I am getting so far.
Tumblr media
Today we have "Speaking with Your Spirit Guides: Call in Your Etheric Helpers" featuring Kyle Gray, Abiola Abrams, Denise Linn, and Karen Kay.
Speaking with Your Spirit Guides: Your guides are here to help guide you on your human journey. To listen to your guides, you have to start listening to your inner voice first. Most people have more than one guide. Ask for help when you yourself are in a calm place. There various kinds of guides: Master guides, heavens/angels, Earthly helpers, Ancestors. A very good reading based off of that. Go within to connect to your spirit guides. We all have different gifts to interpret messages from spirit. Think about your clair senses.
Honestly, my favorite part about today was the fact there is someone not afraid to work with fairies. We all think we know so much about fairy tales but refuse to acknowledge the beings behind that. While I do not know if I am ballsy enough to do so myself, I love seeing more people that are. I am looking forward to day 3!

Hay House: Unlock The Secrets of Card Reading (Day 1)
Yesterday was Day 0, today is Day 1! Super excited for the next segment! What did y'all think of yesterday?
Tumblr media
So we have a video today about "Healing with Tarot and Oracle Cards" with Colette Baron-Reid, Chris-Anne, and Krystal Banner.
Healing with Tarot and Oracle Cards: The video was an interactive video, that was kind of nifty. Self healing with cards. Journaling with Oracle Cards. There is a massive history to Oracles. Know Thyself and Nothing in Excess. You as a being are whole, your perception of yourself is warped. You can't heal what you don't accept. Reading Tarot can help un stuck energies for the reader.
This is part of the Certified Card Reader online course and so far it seems like it would be a great way for anyone who wants to do this as a career to have a "certification". A certification is a great way to know what you are doing, but confidence and practice are so much more important. Stay tuned for Day 2!

Hay House: Unlock The Secrets of Card Reading (Day 0)
Hay House is back with another free event! This time, it is to unlock the secrets of card reading. It runs for 4 days, with freebies on day 0. Let's jump in.
Tumblr media
Firstly, you get a download of "Card Reading Step By Step" guidebook. Then you have access to a video called "A Beginner's Guide to Card Reading". This had multiple sections: What is card reading with Colette Baron-Reid, How the universe speaks to you with Radleigh Valentine, Meditation to Connect with The Divine with Kyle Gray, The Ase One Card Spread with Abiola Abrams, The Soul Whispers Two Card Spread with Rebecca Campbell. There was a quiz, "What cards are right for you?". The next video was "Awakening your Divine Connection" with Kyle Gray. The last video was "The 3 card spread" with Radleigh Valentine.
A Beginner's Guide to Card Reading: What is the divine? Cartomancy is the art of reading cards. Cards are the intermediary between you and the divine. Symbols and metaphors are the language. Synchronicity is a huge part of reading cards. The uncanny nature of quantum physics. The infinite is infinite. The divine is capable of making magic. The universe likes to send signs. Cartomancy is just one language of the divine. Intuition works as you never disconnect from divine. There is also the law of attraction. We are all equals and come from source. You can connect with Divine because you have spirit and a soul. You are the divine.
What Cards Are Right For You: For me, it was Tarot. Take time and energy to find the right tool for you.
Awakening Your Divine Connection: You are worthy of speaking to the divine, there is an interconnectedness. Intention is everything. Intuition is a muscle that needs practice and use. The role of intuition is to guide you. Give yourself the opportunity to be led. Give yourself a moment to hear yourself.
The 3 Card Spread: One of the most common but its placement with meaning after shuffling cards. Tarot is as unlimited as we are.
This is smart move by the company-but it is also great to hear from the people who make and use these cards. It is also great to see a deck, maybe you connect with it maybe you don't, but if you did-you could order it. Anyone who has not found their first, or next, deck yet-this a great way to "try before you buy". This is great to get a free "sample" of a program so that when there is a bigger one with a purchase, you may be more inclined to do it.

Now Selling: Carvana vs CarMax
Cars, these days, are being purchased more than homes are. While most people tend to go to a dealership, in recent times there has come new companies that want to change the way you buy...or sell..a car. I have sold 2 cars with two different companies.
Tumblr media
So, in case you need to catch up on how I would even be able to compare these two: https://www.tumblr.com/orphancookie69/739344070530482176/car-purchases-101?source=share
Carvana:
This transaction was for my Toyota Highlander, I still miss that car. We went through Carvana, and the process was so simple and easy that I did not even think to make a post about it. We applied online, they came and took a brief look at the car, we agreed on a price, they picked it up at our house and paid us for it. For more information: Carvana | Buy & Finance Used Cars Online | At Home Delivery
CarMax:
This time, we are selling the Ford Fusion. We checked Carvana first, and they were lower. So we decided to check CarMax and see what a difference it made, turns out they were higher. So we made an appointment in the evening to have the car inspected at a location, they don't come to you. I arrived first, thinking we were going to be able to finish the transaction that day, and my partner was later than I was. They told me when I arrived that they stopped buying cars 5 minutes ago but would verify the offer. So we are told that it should take 30-45 minutes and they would call us when they were done. We went nearby to get some food. We came back, it was almost an hour after our appointment. So we waited a bit, then thought, we should ask. We go up and they tell us that the vehicle is done and we need to go to the signing room? We got no call, by the way. So we go to the signing room and they tell us we need to go Business Center. We wait in line at the business center. They tell us to come back, they open at 10 AM, and check in and from check in-it will be 2-3 hour wait. Once they are ready, it should be 30 minutes of signing. We went to Buena Park, and they said they were the busiest location-we asked about other locations (after being told we can finish the process at any location) and they did not know how busy other ones were, just that they were the busiest. We had 7 days from that day to finish the process. We picked a different day to have my partner check in, and then call me when they called him to drive to meet him. I signed and then took him back to his second vehicle, now his main vehicle. For more information: CarMax - Shop for used cars, then buy online or at a store
Honestly, I was shocked at what a difference the two experiences were. In my opinion, the difference in price was not worth the awful customer service experience. Did you know that a lot of people tend to buy cars, and companies tend to purchase cars for higher, during tax season? I did not know that, but then again, I am the odd ball person that drives their teenage dream car until the wheels fall off. Have you ever bought or purchased a vehicle from either of these companies?

Now Experiencing: Family Trust Dispute Mediation
Honestly, there is so much I learned from doing this. It is crazy to me, that before this, when someone would rather sell their home and split the money for their kids instead of giving the kids a house-an asset that would increase in value or be usable-it seemed crazy to me. However, had that been done in my own family-it would of been better in most regards.

So, I was lucky enough to know both of my great grandparents. I love them, and parts of them inspire me to this day. I still hold myself as someone I would hope they would be proud of. I lost my great grandpa when I was little, he is the reason I am a reader today. My great grandma outlived him and is one of the strongest people I know. She passed just before I got married.
Of their kids, my grandpa, is the middle child. His older sister, was a smart but kind of useless person. Really, a shame for that intelligence to go to waste when the world could of really used it. The youngest, I was never really close to. It does not help that he was in and out of jail. But this story goes so much before and beyond that time frame.
The story is that my great grandmother dies, and to this day I can still remember the funeral. While I was really close to my grandma/grandpa growing up, as adults we had a falling out. While I am out of the picture, my grandparents pay rent for 40 years for a house they should have owned based on a gentleman's agreement made in the 80's. My great grandmother put everything into a trust after my great grandfather died and named the youngest the Successor Trustee. The estate itself has value in stocks, items, and properties.
My grandparents never received anything from the trust. They paid their rent, up until the end of 2023. Which, now looking back with my current occupational experience, is extremely absurd. I end up reconnecting with my grandparents and they ask me to help them with their situation. I read the trust and advise them on a couple of steps. Eventually I offer to be a mediator.
My first meeting as Mediator was a disaster. I have never felt so uncomfortable in a house that used to be filled with love. A couple of days later, I get a letter via my grandparents, from my great uncle asking me to mediate. I speak to him on the phone and agree to meet him alone in person. While I was not comfortable with it, based on how last meeting almost ended up in a screaming physical brawl, I put safe guards in place. Once I took a step back and took my feelings out of it-I had offered the same thing (unknown to my great uncle) to my grandparents. So I strove for fair.
I met with my great uncle and he let me know details on his end that helped to clear things up. So, after my great grandma passes in 2017-my great aunt and great uncle make trusts deeding their 1/3 of the estate to one another. Then they live off of their social security income, my grandparents rent, and the trust. My great aunt dies in 2021. So catching back up to 2024, where my grandpa was looking for a 50/50 split, the most that could be achieved is 1/3 and 2/3.
But then that assumes that the estate had anything left. There was less than $1,000 in the trust account and much had been sold over the years to keep everything above water. The biggest things to save at this point, was the houses. Each brother wanted the house they lived in. So I informed my grandpa about the state of affairs and honestly, it hurt to see him so damn heart broken. He is almost 70 years old and has been working his entire life to just be screwed over by his family.
I drafted a settlement agreement, and my lack of experience in this process starts to show. But I made the mistake of putting the small stuff with the large stuff. I ended up separating it and we got some traction back on this whole process. I got the settlement signed and picked a lawyer to do the final steps. Between the mishandling of the trust and nuances of the case, I was more worried about not doing these steps right. Like, me offering to do this from the goodness of my heart and making small mistakes is ok. But messing up the grant deeds? Nope.
So we ended up getting a quote for $1,450 as my great uncle did not even do the first step to be the Successor Trustee after my great grandmother died, means we needed affidavits and grant deeds. The other gray area is the parent child exclusion, which we may or may not be able to get. I got 2 copies of her death certificate to file with the grant deeds from Norwalk, did you know they now have an appointment system? It was pretty easy. My great uncle did not have the funds, and the lawyer wanted them upfront. So I set up a note to be paid back in 6 months.
I dropped off the paperwork to the lawyer and she got to work on the documents.
Moral of the Story: Money changes people. Blood needs to be nicer to one another. Bad parenting is so much worse than you would think it is. Legacy is what you make of it.
I was not a bad wannabe lawyer, for what essentially was my time, resources, and less than $2,000-we kept a little over 1 million dollars in assets in the family. This case though, made me question right and wrong, and how can family be so bad to one another? Where does this situation even begin at? Who, or how many people, need to mess up to have us end up here? Like, I know I can live with myself at the end of the day, as I was trying to honor my great grandparents/family legacy as best as I could-but did I even know the full legacy? Do I like knowing more now? This truly was an eye opening experience that I have no regrets doing. My advice to you reader, is avoid this with good parenting and estate planning.
