I've been making something in my ceramics and fibers class since last week. We had a professional artist in her field teach us how to make plastic bag animals!!
It's supposed to be the animal that we chose that's made out of wire and plastic bags and wrapped in different types of fabrics.
Does anyone wanna guess what animal I made? I'll be putting answers people have guessed and some curveballs as options :D
Conrad Gessner was born #OTD (Swiss,26 Mar 1516 - 13 Dec 1565). This creature, which Gessner dubbed a "Simivulpa" ("Ape-Fox"), was the only one of the newly reported American animals included in his 1st edition of Historia animalium in 1551, considered a foundational text of modern zoology. Do you know what animal it actually was? 🤔
Hint: Gessner's illustration is based on this 1516 map icon, its earliest known European image. The caption reads: "An animal that looks like this is found here; it has a bag under its belly where it carries its offspring. One such animal was given to the King of Spain in Granada."
Another hint: This wildly inaccurate image was the result of Europeans attempting to illustrate a "new" animal based on second-hand reports of its appearance, which usually involved the "jigsaw animal" narrative. in this case, contemporary published accounts of the 1499-1500 voyage of Vicente Yáñez Pinzón (Spanish, c.1462-c.1514), during which the first known exploration of Brazil was made, described the first encounter with the animal like this: "Between these Trees he saw as strange a Monster, its foremost part resembling a Fox, the hinder a Monkey, the Feet were like a Mans, with Ears like an Owl; under whose Belly hung a great Bag, in which it carry'd the Young, which they drop not, nor forsake till they can feed themselves." [Translation from John Ogilby, America: Being the Latest, and Most Accurate Description of the New World (London, 1671), 59.]

Okay, calling this DONE. I’m not 100% sure about the “Mega”/Veiled form of Hexerba, but I fit the palette/concepts in that I wanted to, and then some, got some value balance that mostly keeps it from turning into a formless blob, and I can always chuckle about the silhouette. CX Somehow incomplete Hop-Dex entry below the cut; it has general line info, minus the Veiled form which is still in fluid development. @v@;
Most Chubex and Hexerba live near and in the Western Dunes, with the former typically sheltering in dens based in rocky outcrops, more often than not, covered by sand. All stages of this line are avid tunnelers and the surface-dwelling 2nd-stagers usually do well enough to provide for their young that stay protected in their chambers and tunnels.
Being a subterranean stage, it's uncommon to find one of these topside, but if one does, it will find Chubex with its eyes shut as the overworld is far too bright. The baby tunnel-dweller will rely on its sharp ears to detect possible threats, and upon pinpointing one, will face it directly, and begin to tilt its head side-to-side, its ears rocking rhythmically with the motion, in a metronome-like pattern.
This doesn't actually do anything, but usually distracts the would-be-predator long enough for either the baby to find an escape route or for a parent to find it. At this stage, Chubex is still in the midst of mastering its Psychic abilities, but predators can never be sure where a little one is in this learning process, as their aptitudes vary widely, hence the repeated success of this trick over countless generations.
I was at my cousins wedding and my mother comes up to me and says “There’s a creature in a bucket. Do you want to come see it?” I, of course, want to see the bucket creature
Here they is, the bucket creature! They’re some type of lizard but I’m not sure what kind. We did ask the owners of the place and they said that they see them all the time but they don’t know the actual name, they just call ‘em lizards
The Bat-Adoption Papers are literal Magic Contracts
So! In the Deified Batman AU (the AU where the Belief of the peoples of Gotham accidentally Ascended Batman to minor godhood), the Bat Adoption Papers would be a fun concept.
Batman is a God of The Night, Fear, and Protection. Specifically, the protection of Children, which is one of his biggest motivators. Meaning, it's a big part of his Divine Domain.
So when he, a God of Protection and Children, adopts his own Child? It's kind of a big deal.
His Adoption Papers basically become Magical Contracts that claim Dick to him as his own Son, basically turning Dick into a Demigod by the fact that he is the Son of a God.
Then each time Batman adopts a kid, they become a Demigod as well. Maybe after enough time, and after they forge their own Identities, they could become Minor Gods of their own? Idk, fun idea
Why do I bring this up?
Well, when Danny eventually joins the JLA, and runs into Batman, all he sees in a God of the Night, who takes one look at him, and then pulls out a Magical Binding Contract from his Belt.
Hey ya'll, time for the Mystery Skulls Animated September update!
For this month's update, we have some background layouts from one of our lovely freelancer artists Alldrawnup! The Kingsmen Mechanics location is getting plenty more love in this video, but we have some fun unique backgrounds we can't show right now since they go way too much into spoiler territory.
Secondly, we were asked about some color references and realized we never put out Alive Lewis or Kitsune Mystery's turnaround reference sheets. So we're rectifying that now. So sorry it took so long to make these public!
