Ladakh Nightlife: How should you travel at night?
Are you also a nightlife lover? Planning a trip to Ladakh soon? Then we recommend you to get ready for some magical nights out in this mountainous region. Although Ladakh is better known for its serene monasteries and stunning landscapes, the nightlife scene in Leh is pretty charming too.
Trust me, Ladakh after dark has its own special energy you don't want to miss. And yes we are talking with experience. But, how can you fulfill this dream? Bike rental in Ladakh helps you live this dream without breaking your bank. Sound like a perfect plan? Then keep reading.
Tumblr media
Start with exploring cafes and foods
Alright, when the sun goes down in Leh, the streets start filling up with locals and tourists heading out for dinner or just taking a stroll. As you walk around, you'll find cozy little cafes, bars tucked away in hotels, and bustling bazaars. It's way more low-key than a wild Saturday night in Goa, but still lively in its own way.
Let's start with the cafes - they're my personal fave. Comfy couches, twinkling fairy lights, mouthwatering food...what's not to love? You'll find cuisine from all over the world but definitely try some local Ladakh dishes. At Gesmo Restaurant, I'd highly recommend the sky-thick wheat pasta in a spicy sauce. Yum.
Oh and be sure to order a steaming cup of Ladakh salt tea made with yak butter. Sounds weird but it's the perfect beverage for chilly nights out here. Pro tip: bring a jacket or shawl so you can enjoy outdoor garden seating without freezing your buns off.
Now, in terms of bars, there aren't many dedicated drinking spots, but quite a few hotels have lively bars open to the public. My top pick is the Voodoo Rooftop Lounge at The Grand Dragon Hotel. Sip a delicious mango margarita while gazing at the sparkling Leh Palace under the stars. So romantic.
Visit Ladakh’s night bazaar (Market)
Alright, finally, no night out in Leh is complete without a visit to the bustling night bazaar. Rows of stalls sell everything from winter woolens to Tibetan crafts and Ladakh jewelry. Watching locals haggle for a good deal is entertainment in itself! Don't forget to snack on yummy street food like momos and apricot juice too.
A few tips to make the most of your Ladakh nights: dress modestly, stick to well-lit areas, and watch your alcohol consumption. Remember drinking dehydrates you faster in the mountains. And of course, budget some time to nurse your hangover with sweet black tea before heading out on treks and long bike rides during the day.
How to travel with bike rental in Ladakh
Getting a bike on rent in Ladakh is something I'd totally recommend to explore the nightlife here for you. This is a recommendation after years of surviving in the bike renting industry and having 500+ happy customers. Leh is best experienced on two wheels! Just take it slow and watch for icy patches in winter. Rentnhop is one of the popular companies that offer Ladakh Bike Rental near the main market with different types of bikes in their collection. Ah, biking under the starry Ladakh sky - what freedom.
One last thing: don't forget to chat with the locals. Having a conversation over Chang beer or barley wine is the best way to learn more about Ladakh culture and beliefs. People here are so friendly and open.
Conclusion
So there you have it, my tips for savoring those precious evenings in Leh. Grab your partner or solo travel buddies and get ready for some unforgettable nights filled with good food, new friends, and breathless mountain views. Ladakh's nightlife will leave you with beautiful memories that'll last a lifetime. Let me know if you have any other questions before your trip related to bike rental in Ladakh or anything. Have an amazing time.

How do all the ROs prefer their toast?
Ah, the most important of questions. I'll be using a visual aid to answer:
Tumblr media
Adegoke – 5e. Doesn’t eat a lot of toast, but he could be persuaded for apricot jam (aka the best jam).
Atticus – 5h, but he doesn’t give it that much thought.
Arthur – 4d. Has toast occasionally at hotel breakfasts with fancy jams.
Avery – 2i. Toast is a staple of her diet – she has some for breakfast most mornings.
Charlie – 8e. Often forgets his toast in the toaster, though. Would choose cereal over toast any day (Frosties are his fave).
Ellis – 4c, with plenty of butter.
Florrie – 3b. Her friends at uni joke that she doesn’t have toast, just warm bread.
Griff – 2j. Griff has a pretty big breakfast most days (because my god does that man burn through energy).
Imogen – 6g. She learned to make toast herself when she was a kid – took her a while to get the hang of it, but she kind of grew to like the burny taste.
Nyra – 3i. Nyra only really has toast with eggs.
Rowan – 4c. Rowan lives near a bakery, so she usually has fancy fresh bread.
Syd – 4i, but Syd is a total porridge devotee.
Vinh – 8e. Vinh isn’t really a breakfast person, though.

So! You not really an alcohol drinker, or maybe you don’t like the stuff, but you’re out somewhere and trying to decide how to have some and not absolutely hate your drink either. Maybe you’d like to actually enjoy the taste of your drink! Even if you’re not looking to get drunk or even tipsy. Maybe you’re just social drinking once in a blue moon.
But being a newbie, or having only had terrible-tasting alcohol, you have NO idea what to get. Steph is here to help for newbies! Or people who don’t give a damn and just want to have a nice drink that actually tastes good for once, and not in a “oh this very bitter and tart wine is so sweet” way. I am myself now very sensitive to alcohol as a flavor, so the majority of these have Steph’s seal of “shouldn’t taste like trying to stomach down cold medicine and should actually be tasty to normal people who don’t drink alcohol”.
Please note to use this advice responsibly. This is not to help you get drunk, only to help you find a drink you probably won’t have to gag down and can thus enjoy the rest of your night if you’re choosing to partake in alcohol. Imbibing alcohol is a responsibility, and not one to take lightly.
“Girly drinks” are your friends. If you’re young or you don’t drink very much, your tastebuds are probably going to be oriented more toward sweet flavors and less toward bitter flavors. You’re looking for high sugar content baby. (And if you ARE looking to get drunk, this will get you drunk much faster than a whiskey, no matter what your hillbilly uncle says otherwise. that is the entire point of “girly drinks.”)
Most bars, pubs, restaurants and other places often have house drinks or cocktails in their drink menu that they make most often. You’re looking for drinks with ingredients like sweet fruits, like cherries, apricots, watermelon, mango, blue raspberry, lemonade, or novelty things like chocolate or butterscotch or cake or whatever. If anything, just ask the bartender or server if they’re not busy! The bartender will for sure know if it’s sweet, and can probably point you in the right direction if you tell them the flavors you usually like, or what you’re looking for. Yes, you’ll look like a newbie. That’s not the point. The point is to get a drink you’re not gonna gag on and that’s the price you pay.
Only somewhat related, but if you’ve never ordered drinks from a place with a bar, they’ll ask if you want to put it on a tab. That just means, “Do you want me to keep your order open so you can add more drinks later, or is this a one-time deal?” They’ll probably ask for a name then. If your friend’s paying, you give their name.
Typically, stay away from beer. Some rare people enjoy the taste of beer from the start, most do not. If you smell a glass and it smells putrid, steer clear of it. You ain’t gonna like it no matter what you put in it.
Most wines will also not be your friend. To those who do not regularly drink wine, it’s going to be impossibly bitter and feel like it’s drying your throat out despite being a liquid. (That’s the “dry” quality they talk about.)
On the contrary, however, wine spritzers, mixers, and punches? Those are your FRIENDS. These are legit going to taste like juice or soda or punch. They also tend to be lighter on alcoholic content (hence why commonly used for parties), and big on sugar. Spritzers are wine and soda, mixers are wine and some kind of liquor (usually a very sweet or fruity kind like a lemon or strawberry vodka), and wine punches can be as sweet or sour or fruity or tropical as you want. You’ll usually see them referred to as white or red sangrias.
Note: this is sort of why these can actually be MORE dangerous than like having straight-up liquor. These types of drinks with low alcohol and heavy sugar make it very, very easy to drink a lot of them, and have some extra surprise drunk times sneak up on you later because you drank more than you realized.
My rule for safe drinking? One drink per hour, follow with water. You will typically not get more than buzzed, and will stay sufficiently hydrated.
Spritzers, mixers, and punches are part of a larger group called cocktails. Cocktails being just “non-alcoholic drink + alcohol of some kind.” Rum and coke? Cocktail. Bellini? Cocktail.
Champagne cocktails are very often sweet, bubbly drinks. They are Steph’s fave for a reason. Mimosas are perhaps the most famous champagne cocktail. Those are made with orange juice and champagne. Can be surprisingly potent.
When getting cocktails with liquors/spirits, like vodka, rum, and so forth, you will want to stay away from particular ones that are known for very bitter tastes and hard kicks. A bunch also uh, in general taste like the inside of a barrel.
Typically, whiskey, gin, and tequilas are going to be very bitter and gross, and overpower whatever they’re put in. If you like really sour though, tequila goes well with margaritas, which are a lime drink that mostly covers the tequila taste.
Vodka and Rum are typically going to be stomached better, vodka usually being the easiest of all. Both tend to mix well with fruity girly drinks, the kind you’re looking for. Very potent, so imbibe carefully. In most drinks though, you’re still going to get that “cold medicine aftertaste” that clears your sinuses and sometimes it’s just too powerful for the drink. You can usually smell these pretty strongly before you actually drink, and that’ll give you a pretty good idea of the burn you’re gonna feel in a moment. Both are also good in sweet minty drinks, if you like those.
Surprisingly good drink for newbies: mead. It can be a little difficult to get a hold of, but it’s getting more popular. It’s made from honey, so it’s gonna be sweet usually by default. Peach mead? Hell yeah. Peach and honey taste.
Absinthe is actually very tasty, and no it will not make you hallucinate. It actually tastes a lot like licorice candy. Comes in fun colors, and with a sugar cube you dissolve into it on a special spoon. VERY hard to get in the US though, only a few bars sell it as a drink. Like I think it’s literally just a handful of bars across the entire fifty states that have absinthe and absinthe cocktails. If you’ve already tasted Jaegermeister, it tastes like that. I wouldn’t call it a newbie drink, but imo you’ll still enjoy your drink if George just feel like being special today.
Hard ciders have also been hailed as great for newbies, and usually very sweet. They’ve always been hit or miss with me; sometimes, yeah, they’re delicious, and other times they just taste like vaguely-fruity beer. Which is not great.
Beer, to me, tastes like old socks. So y’know, vaguely fruity old socks.
Stay away from most shots. This is usually pure liquor, and it is not pleasant. Especially if you have a small mouth like mine and sometimes can’t do shots in one go. Exceptions are novelty mixers, like those weird cake shots.
Cake-flavored vodka is not as good as you think it sounds.
So here’s some drinks that, as someone who’s tasted a bunch, I can tell you they’ll probably be easier to stomach. Some I actually enjoy as drinks.
Rumchata is horchata with rum in it, so a milky, cinnamon-y kind of drink. Good for newbies.
Kahlua & cream: coffee and cream drink
Mudslide: coffee and cream and irish liqueur; honestly best as a mudslide milkshake. holy shit. that’s heaven.
Bourbon milkshake: honestly if any place sells milkshakes and has a bar, you can ask to get a shot of bourbon added to your milkshake. VERY yummy flavor pair, especially vanilla milkshakes with bourbon.
White russian: kahlua and cream and add vodka
Red russian: vodka with cherry liquor
Dirty Shirley: grenadine (if this is listed as an ingredient that usually means a very sweet drink), soda, maraschino cherries, vodka
Bellini (bars that know what this is are sort of rare, you’ll probably have to explain it): peach juice and champagne
Mimosa: orange juice and champagne (acceptable for breakfast parties!)
Sangria (you usually can’t order this one from bars unless it’s like a special sangria night; this drink is usually found more at parties and social functions): fruit punch + wine + soda if the hosts are younger
Strawberry lemonade vodka: strawberry lemonade and vodka
Malibu cocktail: rum (usually Malibu Rum, hence the name), cranberry juice, pineapple juice.
Blue hawaiian: coconut creme liqueur, pineapple juice, white rum, blue curacao (blue-colored orange liqueur; it’s very fun to mix and also usually means a very sweet drink).
Mojito: rum, soda, lime juice, mint
Mai tai: pineapple juice, lime juice, orange juice, grenadine, white and dark rum
Lemon drop martini: vodka, triple sec (another orange liqueur), sugar and fresh lemon juice
Pina Colada: blended slushy drink made with creme de coconut, rum, and ice
Chocolate martinis: irish cream liqueur, chocolate liqueur, and vodka
Frozen daiquiris: slushy frozen drinks made with fruit juice and rum
Irish coffee: the one place where you actually might enjoy whiskey for those who don’t like it. It’s just that: coffee and usually a whiskey liqueur, like baileys. Creamy, warm, good for cold nights.
Peppermint schnapps hot chocolate: hot chocolate with a peppermint zip. If making yourself, make a big mug first and only add like a capful of peppermint schnapps, it can very easily overpower the chocolate taste. Also creamy and yummy for cold nights.
Hot buttered rum: an intensive recipe, but a very yummy, creamy, warm, butterscotchy drink that you stick a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of. Hard to get tastier than that. I’m very certain Butterbeer was originally based off of this.
There were a bunch of drinks that are typically considered “girly” for high sugar contents, but having had them before, they were just not sweet. Martinis are usually very dry and bitter no matter the fruit, long island iced teas only taste good if you like iced tea, cosmopolitans (cosmos) are heavy on the vodka flavor, as are watermelon vodkas and alcohol-infused watermelons, and a number of colorful, blended ice drinks that are usually listed are heavy on the alcohol burn, enough to drown out the flavor.
Hope this was helpful! Remember, yes, you might look like a newbie, but the bartender wants to help you find a drink just for you! Ask them questions (when they’re not busy), and they can totally help you out (most just like to help, but at the very least, helping you might mean some extra money at the end of the night). And if they’re real nice they might give you little samples so that you can have a taste for yourself before buying the whole drink.

Eating healthfully while chronically ill
So maybe you're in the same situation I am. I am single, live by myself, am chronically ill, don't make much money, but want to eat healthier. Because of my illness, I rarely have the energy to get up and cook (and wash dishes from said cooking). And lately I've been trying to eat healthier, so I thought maybe I could tell you the kinds of things I buy at the grocery store.
[I do understand that “healthy” isn't the same for everyone. Instead of coming at me, just don't buy the things that don't work for you. This is simply to help you brainstorm. If you have things you'd like to add to the list, that'd be cool
My number one go to:
cereal and almond milk. (I'm mildly lactose intolerant, but almond milk does have the bonus of having a farther away expiration date than cow milk). You can get healthy cereals like Cheerios, but I usually go for whatever is on sale or the bag cereals (which are resealable).
Perishable, but I eat them quickly:
cherry tomatoes
bananas (I also break down the bunches and only buy three at a time. Also, you don't have to wash them)
Mushrooms. I'm a weirdo that likes raw mushrooms.
Perishable, but they tend to last longer than other things:
apples
carrot sticks/ baby carrots
Other ways to get fruit:
canned fruit in its own juice. My faves are pineapple and pears.
Dried fruit. I like figs, dates, apricots, prunes, and craisins
Applesauce. I get the small individually packaged ones because they're easier. But, when I buy a big jar, it gets mold before I am halfway through.
Staples:
crackers. Usually saltines, but sometimes I treat myself with fancy crackers.
Peanut butter.
Cheese.
Yogurt. I buy them by the 6 pack. I do sometimes treat myself to Greek yogurt if it's on sale.
Almonds (or other nuts). Compare prices with a baking aisle to see which is better.
Other things:
olives.
Hummus
tortilla chips
pretzels
salsa (though premade salsa can sometimes be very bad. But sometimes good)
Things that aren't really healthy but are filling or easy to eat:
Pop-Tarts
Pudding cups
granola bars
Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (very good for quick boosts of energy)
Other things that are a sometimes food:
Summer sausage
beef jerky
smoked salmon
bread (bread usually goes bad before I get through the loaf, so I don't usually buy it. But wheat bread lasts longer than white bread)
Marmalade, pepper jelly, fig jam, tapenade (Not really healthy per se, but can break up the monotony)
(I generally avoid meats because they can be more expensive. And for me at least their health benefits are greatly outweighed by their health detriments. Plus I just really like fruits and veggies).
but yeah, then I basically just make little picnics in my bed. All I need is a knife and a spoon most of the time... if any utensils at all. And especially since I'm by myself, there is no shame in eating out of the container it comes in. Hope this helped somebody.

Just a bit of healthy food inspiration from this morning  /  one of my fave pre/post workout breakfasts at the moment: mini healthy pancakes (sweetened with applesauce) with a crunchy peanut butter sauce. This time with plum and apricot slices and a sprinkle of chia seeds on top. ♥︎
For the peanut butter sauce, I use a 100% crunchy peanut butter that has no sugar, salt or oil added (about 1 heaped tablespoon) and I add a little bit of melted butter, some vanilla extract, a teaspoon of maple syrup, a dash of milk and a bit of hot water.

Tag game!!
Rules: tag 15 people you want to know better
Thank you to the lovely @holikat for tagging me! I absolutely love stuff like this, and if anyone wants to just ask me random questions anytime (within reason) I’d love to answer them!
Relationship status: single and content, but also open to a change if it happens? It only took me almost eighteen years to become content with singleness so I am proud of that.
Fave colors: all neutral shades, light and dark gray, champagne, mauve, black, lavender, ivory, navy, light blue, and earth tones.
Lipstick or chapstick: lipstick! Neutral shades for the summer and spring, and more bold and dark for the fall and winter!
Three fave foods: Chicken Tikka Masala with Garlic Butter Naan, Beef Phô, and any pasta cooked in a garlic or pesto sauce.
Song stuck in my head: turning tables by Adele (so random!?)
Last song I listened to: Till I found you by Phil Wickham
Last movie I watched: Leap Year! I’m not normally a rom-com type of girl, but my roommate made me watch it, and it wasn’t bad!
Top 3 favorite TV Shows: BBC’s Sherlock, ITV/Masterpiece’s Victoria, and The Crown(!!) (I prefer British-made/British-centered shows, as you might have guessed 😂)
Books I’m currently reading: Absolute Friends by John Le Carré, Fools for Christ by Jaroslav Pelican, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, and Unwritten Letters to You by T.B. LaBerge
Last thing I googled: bath and body’s wild berry and chamomile tea (can anybody give me a conclusive answer as to whether this scent was discontinued or not? Because I need to know!)
Current time: 7:08 pm
How many blankets do you sleep in: two! A thick plaid one, and those fuzzy and furry aesthetic looking blankets in gray
Dream trip: Western Europe to see London, Bath, France, Switzerland, and Austria
Anything you want: to see my will and God’s will become aligned for me in my lifetime. It is a struggle, and on some days, a losing battle, but it would bring me endless peace and comfort to be able to say that outside of the Will of God, there is nothing I want.

No matter now much water I drink or well I moisturize I frequently have chapped lips. These are my faves that I keep within arms reach of my purse, robe, or nightstand. And I always need/ want more.😆🤣💳💸 SO PLEASE TELL ME!! What product is your lip conditioning/ moisturizing HG product that I’m missing & should add to my collection? HALP ME! Here’s my Top 5 picks: 🍯 @farmacybeauty Honey Butter Beeswax Lip Balm- This is my absolute favorite in a tube. I will never not have this on me at all times. It deeply moisturizes my lips with honey, beeswax, & cupuaçu butter, and it lasts for quite a while. 🌿 @noyahcosmetics Organic Peppermint or vanilla) Lip Balm- Super close runner up for my favorite in a tube! I think it feels & performs much better than Burt’s Bees. The component is made from 70% post-consumer recycled material, & the lip balm itself is made with only 5 ingredients right here in the USA. I am eager to try the other flavors! 🌹 @awakeskin Lip Therapy Lip Mask- my current favorite for nighttime. It has a blend of olive, argan, rosehip, & raspberry seed oils to deeply nourish my lips while I sleep, plus it’s thick enough that it stays put. I adore it. It’s sold out, though, & I can’t find it to replenish my almost empty pot. Mayday, Awake! 🧈 @mamonde_us Lip Sleeping Mask in Plum Blossom- I find that this product is wonderful at soothing my lips when they’re really irritated. It contains plum blossom extract (hello antioxidants!) and Shea + Muru Muru butters for ultra hydration. While I do use it at night, I tend to prefer it in the daytime as a primer for lipstick or as a top coat because it is glossy & feels incredible. 🫒 @seraphinebotanicals Fruit Butter Lip Sleeping Mask- Its an intensive overnight lip mask formulated with Vegan Glycolipids, Shea Butter & Apricot Kernel Butter to deliver intense hydration, softness & elasticity while you sleep. It claims to improve the health & texture of the lips, including repairing early signs of fine lines, so I’m down! I find it is super nourishing & a little thicker consistency. This product stays in place during the night, but also works well during the day. It’s aces! (at My Lip Stuff) https://www.instagram.com/p/CIlLAtpjQMt/?igshid=jraioi1ufity
