Oh god, I'm so sorry it took me this long to answer this; I just saw it. I do not get asks ; - ; we're passed Christmas and Hanukkah, but I will answer regardless. They do a hybrid of both holidays cuz why the fuck not. Lexi isn't religious but she loves both holidays so why not combine them? Fezco does his best to learn more about Hannukkah, and its traditions, and Lexi literally melts like a puddle. They'll have a Christmas tree in the living room, and they'll force Ash to help him decorate. They'll send Holiday cards, and Ash has to be photoshopped into the photo cuz he refuses to be in it. They will also have their cats in holiday sweaters. Fez will spoil his baby Lexi because he gives me that vibe. And Lexi will go above and beyond to make him/buy him the perfect gift cuz he's not had anyone but him gifts since Marie passed. Fezco will cook, Lexi will bake, and Ash will sulk. They eat a hybrid meal for Christnukkah (is that how it's spelled? idk). Half traditional Hanukkah, half traditional Christmas feast. Fezco will have been giving Lexi gifts for all 8 days of Hanukkah but will still continue to give her gifts on Christmas morning. They'll all snuggle on the sofa after opening gifts and watch the only Christmas movie Ash will allow: Die Hard.

"Shut up, Fez." I snap, turning to him as I hoist my bag further up onto my shoulder as a tear drips down my cheek. I sniffle loudly, watching a confused look passes across his expression. His lips part at my rude words, not expecting to come home to me, pissed off, after a long 'meeting' with Ash.

"You gonna tell me why you look all packed and shit?" Fez asks, reaching up to rub at the back of his neck, leaning against the wall beside him as my arms fold over my chest. He looks scared, his chest rising and falling in anxious breaths but there's something knowing in his eyes, like he already knows why I'm angry.

And he's lying and playing dumb on purpose.

"Next time you want to cheat on me with Lexi fucking Howard, at least try to be discrete." I grit, jaw tense and brows furrowed as his shoulders droop, his face paling at the mention of the other woman's name. "Or, you know what, there won't be a next time so-" I cut myself off with a bitter laugh, reaching up to angrily bat my tears away from my cheeks, realizing he's nothing to cry over.

Not anymore.

"How-"

"Lexi called me today. Consumed with guilt." I sniffle, tossing his cell phone down the hall, right into his hands. He doesn't give it another look, his eyes don't leave mine as a frown pulls his lips down. "So, I'll come back for my stuff. I'll also be back to tell Ash-"

"Tell me what?" My head whips around to see Ash standing at the other end of the hallway, his brows furrowed as he looks curiously between Fez and I. "Are you guys breaking up?" He asks, his eyes suddenly wide as he takes a tentative step towards me.

"Your brother cheated on me with Lexi. I trust you to handle it in ways with violence, ways I can not." I huff, forcing a sad smile as I step up to Ash, his face reddening in anger as he looks passed me, to Fez who stands cowardly against the wall. "Love you, Ash. Let me know if you need anything." I whisper, leaning down to press a kiss to his forehead, a scowl still tightly set on his lips.

I give Fez one last look, a hateful one, before patting Ash on the back and making my way out of the apartment for good.

2023 FFRC - October 🎃

Hello friends! I hope your Halloween was spectacular. I counted 6 little Wednesday Addams' last night so that was fun. More kids came to the door than last year, but we still have two huge bowls of candy left over. This is what we get for building a house in a new development without many children yet. More candy for me.

Anyway - only two more months of the 2023 @fanfic-reading-challenge. I'm sure @juuls will have rules for next year's challenge up soon. It's always exciting for me to get a new clean spreadsheet because I'm a nerd who loves spreadsheets. October 2023

What can I say about this month? Hrm. I read this mega long story with 70 chapters and 330k words and I didn't love it enough to recommend it. That's always a bummer. But I did reread a bunch of stories I loved from earlier in the year. I also posted my first couple podfics. They were so fun to do and I hope my extremely Canadian accent doesn't take people out of the story. Ha Ha.

okay so fun facts: originally this was from Lexi’s POV! I got about 400 or so words in when I realized it wasn’t working? Um… it was originally titled “ocean blue eyes (looking in mine)” when it was from Lexi’s pov! 🌊 and I cut a whole section where Lexi’s rant about summer vacation devolved into her questioning if Ashtray had ever seen an episode of Phineas and Ferb and a very funny back and forth about Perry the Platypus that I wish I had saved in my archives. Alas! I do not have it any longer and I have regrets about it.

but the above mentioned line you want to know about? girl. i think i had about 8-12 variations of it before settling on that one? I knew Fezco needed to be a menace right there but I wasn’t sure just how much of an actual goblin I wanted to make him. I tried so many lines. I was debating them in the text thread with my beta. When we settled on that line I actually went back to sprinkle in the other uses of him calling her baby that pop up prior to that one, deciding that he’d be using it as a pet name already even if they were insisting they were just friends.

It was fun and flirty and set a good tone for the rest of the fic without making it awkward. Also my absolute goal in life is to make Fezco a menace to society Lexi whenever possible. 😇

Anyways, I will stop fangirling to answer the question: 1. What writing projects are you currently working on?

I am working on my Soulmate/Soul mark AU: Words that Tie, Ties that Bind. It's my passion project. I have a Fezco/Lexi fic that I want to write but I will talk more about it in the NEXT question. 2. Which story is your favorite? Least favorite? My current favorite does have to be Words that Tie, Ties that Bind purely because of how much the idea speaks to me. I'm 200k words in, 38 chapters deep, and I'm still writing. My ADHD mind doesn't understand how I'm doing that. Hopefully, I can keep going.

I don't want to say my least favorite because I still love it it, it’s the fic I have called Doin' Time. But I say that one because I know I could have made it better. It's a Disturbia/Rear Window AU that I will 100% go back and touch up. I wrote during the lowest point of my life, aka after my Abuelo died of COVID. I poured all of my angst and heartache into that fic that I didn't really take the time to make sure it was SOLID. At least in my opinion, anyway. I know other people will disagree but I think I could always improve it. That being said, I do think the AU/idea would work amazing for Fexi.

Okay, imagine this: Gus's life takes a downward spiral and he dies of an overdose. Lexi (despite being hurt by her father's drug addiction was still very close to him) begins to act out in school and subsequently gets put on house arrest for assaulting someone who mocks her father's death. Just as Lexi is beginning her house arrest and beginning to process her grief and trauma, two things happen, 1. Marie O'Neill moves in next door with her two grandsons and 2. Cal Jacobs, who had long since moved into the house behind Lexi after divorcing and leaving his wife and sons, has many dark secrets connected to local missing men and women. TLDR: Lexi falls in love with her seriously hot neighbor Fezco while also dealing with the discovery that Cal Jacobs has been entertaining men and women who happen to go missing after he brings them into his home. And things really take a turn for the worst when Lexi is spying on Cal only to find her best friend's crush, Jules, in his living room. It's perfect, it's got murder, sex, lies, deception, mystery, hurt/comfort, and crime.

Why do you think the Euphoria fandom's most popular characters/ship is Lexi Howard & Fezco (Fexi)? They're not one of the main ships featured on the show, like Rue and Jules. And while many fans clearly identify with Lexi, who is intelligent, dedicated, caring and passionate, I wonder why (especially amongst fellow fanfic writers) Kat Hernandez, who writes fanfiction and has a secret double life on the internet, isn't more popular in the Euphoria fandom, or featured more prominently in fanfic.

Ok so this is my estimation (and please bear in mind that I'm not a very active member of this fandom anymore, nor am I an authority on fanfic) I think that Lexi and Fez resonated so much with people because there's a lot of room for fans to speculate and ideate onto them. Like within the axes of interesting/characterisation, most of them is left to our imagination, particularly when it comes to their motivations and their futures. There was soooo much speculation about Fezco and s2e1 provided a lot of answers, same with the bit about Lexi in a car with her dad.

The other thing that strikes me is that they're two characters who are (for the most part) unfailingly nice. They're quiet, they're loyal, they're smart, and in a show full of characters who lie, scheme and manipulate, that can be a big draw. This isn't to say that not-nice characters don't attract fandom, it's their contrast against characters like Nate Jacobs who are just unfailingly just evil, and imo that makes him quite boring.

I think the issue with Kat is that her characterisation is so all over the place in the show. First she's smart then she's dumb, she's honest then she's manipulative. Coupled with the fact that the show and SL basically didn't give her a storyline in S2, and when it did it was fucking bonkers. There's such a thing as just growing weary of a character and I think that's what happened to Kat, in the interesting/characterisation graph there's a lot of room for fans to speculate about her but god the show makes her out to be so shit, it just isn't fun.

The point I'm trying to make is that Lexi and Fez provide a very rich place to mine art from because the show mostly leaves their characterisation stable and (mostly) adherent to fans' hcs while giving us just enough plot for us to keep creating.

Tbh, my main reading is this: Lexi and Fez are a heteronormative white couple. They're both conventionally attractive and fit into the bad boy with a heart of gold/ smart girl with hidden depths trope. Add to that that the show doesn't detract from their relationship like it does to Jules and Rue or their characterisations like Kat, they become fertile ground for fandom and fan work. I wish it was different and I'm not saying that I'm a saint and immune to biases, but that's just how it is. And I'm not even white or straight. Or even conventionally attractive lol. It's a combination of bad writing and unconscious biases and SL treating Barbie like shit.
