A/N: Thank you to @aroacefluid for inspiring me to continue writing for this adorable pair because I love them and thank you to them for inspiring me to keep writing and posting every day of flufftober. I want to write more for this pair in this AU so if you have any ideas please tell me them, any idea is a good idea I swear (you should read some of the ideas I have lol).

It might not be the Superbowl but it means just as much now as it might in the future. Right now it’s ridiculous training running up and down the field to prepare for a stock normal game. It is a stock normal training nothing to be seen by the media and yet there are 10 people sitting in the stand right now taking photos of videos of the New Orleans Saints training.
Despite all the pressure that comes from the media being in the stands Sam feels more pressure from the fact that his boyfriend is sitting in the exact same stands. Steve had surprised him 2 nights ago with dinner and told Sam that he was going to be staying another 3 nights. That is a whole 5 days with his boyfriend, his boyfriend who lives in New York, and plays for the New York Giants.
Sam thought he was proposing that night which now seems silly, Steve is at the height of his career he won the Superbowl just over a month ago and now he’s being trailed every which way by media and teams offering contracts. Instead, they were actually celebrating Steve renewing his contract with the Giants for the next three years, which is good for Steve.
The media isn’t actually here for Sam or the team, it’s here for Steve, which if you wanted to think about it enough might also mean they are there for Sam as well in some twisted way. They want to capture the gay relationship between two brilliant NFL players.
This is what Sam is thinking right now in the centre of the field as he watches Steve walk towards him and the media is taking photos of it all. He watched Steve jump the fence and all his teammates stopped to watch the man walk towards him.
Watched the man get down on one knee and Sam begins crying because he has been picturing this moment since they were in college before they were both in the NFL and when they both actually got selected to play and when Steve won the Superbowl. He’s thought about it a lot.
“I hate you,” Sam cries looking at Steve’s Superbowl ring that Steve is proposing with.
“I love you too,” Steve whispers back putting the ring onto Sam’s finger and when Sam takes his collar and lifts the blonde man towards him so they can kiss, Steve knows that it was the right move.

hi lovely! so i was just rereading your "football" au, the one with the roommates and the definitely not in love with his teammate pierre etc... and first things first, it is fabulous. completely and utterly WONDERFUL, really! chef's kiss throughout.
but. but i do have one thing to say. my friend and i were both reading this and going feral, but we're also both very british and very confused. so to set the scene: we read "football au" and thought oh we know this! this is going to be fab! but then there was something about giants. and also quarterbacks. or was it linebacks??? and listen i really do think you're a marvellous writer. but sincerely. what fuck is a quarterback?? i only know a quarter pounder, and that's a burger, mate 😭

i won't go into the details of american football bc literally i dont even get it sometimes jklgdmsgklmds BUT. here are my answers to your questions, and a little of what ya need to know:
giants = the team name! they are one of two New York City-associated nfl teams. here's the shitty little moodboard i made a while back for colors/aesthetic :) lmao
quarterback = player on offense who throws the football! they're usually the biggest stars on the teams, and they're the players generally responsible for scoring. (if you've been on my blog on tumblr desktop(tm), the man in my sidebar gif is the quarterback for the giants right now!)
in the au, pierre is a runningback, which is a player who runs with the football! usually the quarterback will hand the ball off to the runningback, who tries to dodge the defenders and get as far down the field as he can before he gets tackled to the ground.
charles is a kicker, which is a player who kicks the football! when a team scores, they can get an extra point by kicking the football through the uprights.
when i get closer to actually finishing this fic i'll like. find a football primer of some kind and/or have a lil dictionary for people to reference <3

You never think shit like this is going to happen to someone you know. It sounds like the plotline of one of his grandmother’s soaps-- turns out it really was too good to be true, she was leading a double life the whole time and abandoned her boyfriend and child overnight, tune in tomorrow at one to see what happens next!
So far, next has mostly involved life going on as normal; Kristoff has taken Bailey leaving as if it were nothing more than a minor inconvenience, acting like his normal stoic, gruff self. Alice is too little to know what’s really going on, and she’s used to formula already, so no problems there, either. From the outside, really, it seems like it might have been for the best that Bailey left, considering how smoothly it’s all going.
But Sven knows, in a bone-deep heart-of-hearts sort of way, that it’s all bullshit, that sooner or later the facade is going to crack and the truth of it all is going to come rushing out. And he knows Kristoff isn’t going to recognize his breaking point until he’s well past it, and that even then he’s not going to tell anyone about it.
Which is why, when Kristoff’s texts back start slowing down and then dry up altogether, and when he starts making excuses to avoid leaving the apartment, and when he’s not even sending daily pictures of Alice anymore, Sven doesn’t need Bulda’s worried phone call to know it’s time to take matters into his own hands.
“Bjorgman?” he calls as he raps three times on the door. “You in there?”
He knows he is; he can see through the window that the light’s on. He knocks again anyway before noticing the piece of paper under his foot. Frowning, he kneels down and frees it.
Final Notice.
Well, shit.
“I’m coming in whether you like it or not,” he calls, digging out his spare key from his basketball shorts. “And you better be ready to tell me why the hell you’re getting evicted.”
Kristoff startles from where he’s been sleeping on the sofa, Alice in his arms, when Sven comes in. There are circles underneath his wild brown eyes and an unkempt beard growing on on his chin, and the moment he sees Sven his face pulls into a scowl.
“What the hell are you doing here?” he demands. “Couldn’t you at least knock?”
“I did, man. A lot. And,” he says, pushing a box of diapers out of the way with his foot, “call it a welfare check. You’re scaring the shit out of your mom.”
“We’re fine,” Kristoff insists.
Alice is, at least; the place is spotless, even the boxes of diapers and cans of formula on the floor are stacked neatly, and she’s grown since Sven last saw her, and even now she’s sleeping contentedly in her father’s arms.
But Kristoff himself-- shit. Even without the eviction notice, Sven would know something was wrong. He’s never seen him look so...broken.
“No, you’re fucking not,” he says, trying to keep his voice steady. “When was the last time you went outside? Or saw another person? I mean, shit, dude, are you even trying to find another job? And once again, why the fuck are you getting evicted? I know you weren’t on the team long, but _still, _I know how much they paid you.”
“That’s what Amazon is for,” Kristoff mutters, looking back down at Alice as she begins to stir.
Sven moves to stand directly in front of him, crouching down until they’re at the same eye level. “Kris,” he says, the fear in his chest more real than anything he’s felt watching a linebacker charge at him head on, “when was the last time you even fucking showered?”
The other man squeezes his eyes shut tight and sighs. “I don’t know,” he admits, his voice barely audible.
“Let me see Al,” Sven replies, more gently than anything he’s said so far. “And you go shower, and then come back, and we’ll talk.”
For a moment Kristoff’s arms tighten around the baby, and then he nods almost imperceptibly and hands her over.
Sven spends the ten minutes Kristoff’s in the shower with Alice beside him on the sofa, grinning and helping her practice sitting up on his own. “There you go, Ally Pally,” he says softly, marveling at how much she’s grown, how much she’s smiling these days. Shit, her eyes have even gone from blue to brown-- thank god, he thinks; at least there’s one part of her that looks like Kristoff.
He keeps playing with her as Kristoff rejoins them and sits on the sofa, awkwardly drumming his fingers on his knee. “So,” Sven says, without looking up at him, “the eviction notice. How’d that happen?”
He keeps his voice light, unjudgmental, but it still takes Kristoff a while to reply. “I don’t...have the money,” he says, his voice tight.
“You were just in the NFL for six months. Where’d all that go?”
“Where didn’t it go,” he mutters. “Paying hospital bills, and paying off the SUV we got because it was safer, and paying for my parents to fix up the bakery, and paying to just live, and now-- now it’s just gone.”
“So what are you going to do for work?”
“I don’t know.”
“What are you going to do about a place to live?”
Kristoff’s hand curls up into a fist on his knee. “I don’t know.”
“How are you going to feed your kid?”
That’s enough to send Kristoff to his feet and stalking away from the sofa, only to turn back on his heel and run a hand through his hair. “Look, Sven, I know I’m a shit father, okay? But I-- I just don’t fucking know, okay?”
“Have you done anything but take care of Alice since Bailey left?”
Kristoff lowers his hand and his gaze. “No.”
“Why?”
He draws in a deep breath, and then another. “I can’t...I don’t...I...” He sighs. “What if she grows up, and one day she asks me, ‘where were you when I needed you?’ I-- I’m all she has left, I--”
“No you’re not,” Sven interrupts. “Shit, dude, I’m right here, aren’t I? And your family’s an hour away, and--”
“It’s not the same--”
“No. But it’s something. You can’t live like this. I mean, literally, you can’t. Do you really think Alice would be happier having grown up on the fucking street because it meant you never left her side?”
Kristoff winces. “No.”
“Then-- just--” Sven sighs and picks Alice up before moving to stand beside his friend. “Look. You-- shit, I don’t know why you’re still living in Hartford anyway. Rent’s expensive as shit. Come stay with me for a few days, I’ll pay your landlord enough to fix your credit score.”
“You don’t--”
“I am. And on the way to my place, you’re calling your mom and telling her all of this. She’s worried sick.”
“This’ll make it worse.”
“Sometimes,” Sven says, “things have to get worse before they can get better. But right now, we just gotta worry about getting both of you guys through. Okay?”
Kristoff nods. “Okay.”

Sam loves this whole experience and he’s glad he has been able to be a part of it. Watching Steve take the field for the first time, the NFL field for a real game, Sam would be lying if he told you he never thought they’d be here. In high school, it was a dream and then in college, he met Steve and it became a possibility, now they were part of individual NFL teams and now he was watching Steve take the field for the first time.
But before that he just has to pull the man away for one kiss good luck, does it matter that he’s on the other team?
