The Teen Titans go to the movies again with a Live-Action Movie from DC Studios #teentitans #dcstudios
While we’re still a year away from the relaunch of DC Studios‘ film universe, we have word that a new one will be joining the slate. The Teen Titans will be getting a live-action film, their first. Ana Nogueira will pen the screenplay for the film. Nogueira has already written Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, one of the films already greenlit and in production for DC Studios. There’s been different…

Tetris (dir. Jon S. Baird).
Apple’s biographical Cold War drama about the wild true story behind the high-stakes legal battle to secure the rights to titular Soviet-created puzzle video game stars Taron Egerton in a stylish period thriller. Things start quickly where the murky licencing deals over the popular game get complicated and Egerton’s character, apparently the only honest executive among the bunch, spends two hours and two trips to Moscow trying to untangle the complex gaming mess. Things devolve into a clearly fabricated end car chase and rush to the fall of Communism in an uncertain Russia.

The King’s Man
Year: Dec 2, 2021

Production Company: Marv Studios, Cloudy Productions, and 20th Century Studios

Rating:
IMDb: 6.3/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 42%
My Rating: 5.5/10
Platform: DVD
My Thoughts:
I had such high hopes for this movie. I remember seeing the trailer in theaters and was excited to see it. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it to see it when it came out after all the Covid delays. Fortunately, I spent zero dollars on seeing this movie because I rented it from my local library. I probably would have been upset paying money to see this in theaters. I would have stopped watching halfway through the movie if I hadn’t hoped that it would have some redeeming trait. ‘Maybe it’s a slow start,’ I thought to myself. It didn’t. It was a slow movie, which doesn’t work for the quirky, humorous spy films that the Kingsman franchise has promised.
Whoever was in charge of editing the trailer did a fantastic job in making the movie seem like it would have been as interesting. I was expecting a dangerous team of people,  a team up with Rasputin. Strong, diverse supporting characters. What I saw was not that.
The narrative starts out with the classic killing off the mother trope creating the overprotective father trope that leads to the rebellious son trope. The timeline starts out in the Boer War and then jumps to the beginning of The Great War with the villain, an eccentric Scottish mastermind bent on revenge against the British Empire (fair and relatable but not that interesting), starts triggers the war and prolongs it using his various agents in Germany, Russia, UK, and US.
It drags and honestly can be a little confusing at times what exactly is going on. The heroes and the villains causing major historical events, twisting and turning around the facts. The assassination of Arch Duke Ferdinand. The assassination of Rasputin. The Zimmerman note. It was vaguely interesting to see how they kept it in line as much as possible, while giving the impression of it all being done in secret between two sides. The fight scenes were lackluster and few. Honestly, I was bored during almost all of them.
It’s only when the son, Conrad, finally gets his chance to go to war and discovers how terrible it is (how original) that it kind of gets interesting. He is shot through a misunderstanding and a stolen identity, and I was surprised to see it, but satisfied with the turn of the plot.  We were finally getting somewhere with any kind of interest or meaning. Too bad I had already sat through probably over an hour and a half of the movie to get to that point.
The rest is typical, the father grieves for too long of a time, get sense kissed into him, and then in typical Kingsman fashion saves the day. At the very, very end we see how the Kingsman service came to be, after being teased with small nods to it’s origins at the beginning. The tailor service. “Oxfords not Rogues.” The Knights of the Round table codenames. The problem is that we get so little of it at the very end, it doesn’t make up for the dragging plot or the shallow characters, poor acting (in Conrad’s case), or the strange zooming in cinematography.  (It just didn’t work for a movie in this kind of historical setting like it did with the more modern films.)
Overall, a very lackluster film and I wouldn’t necessarily blame it on the fact the movie was sequel because Kingsman: The Golden Circle was a decent film in my opinion, if a little odd. Maybe if they didn’t try so hard to work around historical events in their time line, they could have given their characters or plot more depth

24 from the 50 meet cutes
Here we go!! I've got a few finished and will post them over the next couple days! This blurb is gonna have a second part (it's a double meet-cute ya'll!) based off of #1- which you can find here!
#24: Being paired up at Ballroom dancing class.
WC: 2k. || Other Writing || Warnings
☀️
Wednesday evenings are designated to Ballroom dancing. This was a simple pleasure that had started as a favour you were doing for a friend. They had insisted it would be fun- and it was- as soon as the fifty minutes were up, you were informed that not only had they found it boring, but they also hadn't signed up for the next session.
You, on the other hand, had signed up for the next one, and, after the third time you had found yourself attending the quaint dance studio- conveniently four blocks from home- it was quite obvious that you would be attending indefinitely.
With spring came the wedding season, and it was time to learn the classic styles of waltz and foxtrot. As a bonus, the wedding season also applied to you- you were attending this weekend. There was a sense of pride in knowing you would be prepared for the reception- maybe even find yourself on the dancefloor for a change.
Unsurprisingly, when you crossed the threshold of the front entrance this evening, there were a few new faces- some looking happier to be here than others- and it took a little searching before you found a spot on the bench to put your bag.
It wasn't much longer before the instructor clapped her hands together and called the class to attention. She covered the basics of introductions and gave a quick run-down of how the class would proceed.
Following your usual- and most comfortable- routine, you found a spacious spot near the back left. As much as you enjoyed the freedom these classes provided, you weren't at the point of willingly thrusting yourself to the front, which may as well have been like stepping into the spotlight.
Everyone scattered, leaving enough space for one another to slide and groove around successfully. The music was a classic symphony, something perfect to tackle the waltz with,
The class was already in full swing, dancers repeating steps until they were ready to be executed with ease. Over the orchestral tunes, the door to the studio swung open, and a man, rather cute and frazzled, sheepishly snuck in, swiftly slipping through the group until he came to a stop at the very back and settling into the spot to your right.
Paying more attention to the steps than the mystery man, it only occurred to you that he had stolen the space of your favourite dance partner, Marv.
The instructor revised the final moves required for today's lesson and then clapped her hands together, initiating the next part of the class. It was time to put the steps into practice, and other students shifted to greet their partners.
The mystery man looked left and right, smiling at Marv before quickly switching his attention to yours truly. Feeling dread for the first time since signing up to dance, having to switch up partners had been decided for you.
Worse off, Marv seemed happier than he ever had, keen on teaming up with the lady to his right- at least twenty years older than yourself.
Sheepishly, your new dance partner smiled, and you finally took the time to check him out. His hair, soft and chocolate, is pulled up and out of his face courtesy of a bright pink clip. He doesn't seem too prepared for this class, dressed in a pair of light-wash jeans and a loosely fitted and extremely flattering white tee.
You start to wonder if he's one of the few dancers gearing up for a wedding they would soon be asked to attend. And, when he makes no further attempts to initiate stepping closer and getting into position with you, it's almost a guarantee that he has no idea what he's doing.
Not only would you soon be dancing with a stranger, but he seemed to be expecting you to take control- something dance class usually guaranteed was not a necessity.
The sooner you get things started, the shorter the suffering. So, you sent him a sweet smile and stepped closer, encouraging him to do the same. He sighed with a sense of relief and followed suit, awkwardly shifting and shuffling, his arms awkwardly trying to find a space to rest.
You muttered a soft greeting, hoping it would help him warm up to you, and it seemed to work when he said hello back in between a soothing sigh.
He still seemed unsure, standing in place, his eyes swelling with surprise when you took a final step forward, sneakers bumping into your own as you boldly wrapped your arm around his shoulder, snatching his hand and forcing him to fall into position.
Hesitantly, he wrapped his other hand around your waist- he was so clueless that you could have chosen to lead, and he wouldn't have had a clue.
The music was looping, other partners moving back and forth, and after a brief moment of bashfully acknowledging one another, you nodded, taking a step back. For a second, it seemed he was considering what came next before finally putting his foot forward and following suit.
You didn't even make it to the third step when he started to get confused, his gaze glued to the gap between the two of you, watching his feet as if they would magically know what to do.
The desire to sigh with frustration was doubling; this dance style was something you had been looking forward to. It sucked that your partner was so... useless.
If you didn't help him, there was no hope in mastering the waltz, and you did not go out of your way to attend this class just to give up now. So, even though his eyes widened with surprise as you came to a halt, hand loosening in his hold as you looked up at him,
"I'm gonna count… To make it a little easier for us." Easier for him, more like. All disdain is dismissed as his features softened cutely, brows furrowed, his lips pouting but still pulling into a smile.
When he realised your own brows were curiously raised, waiting for him to acknowledge your offer, he nodded animatedly, and you took that as your cue to begin,
"One. Two. Three." He wordlessly counted along; it was adorable but only seemed to confuse him further.
"One. Two. Three." Repeating. He was barely keeping up.
"One. Two- Jesus!" You hissed, releasing him from his grip as a sudden sharp pressure ached at your foot.
In sudden fright, he let go, hands raising with innocent defence, taking a swift step back. He had stepped on your foot. As much as he had tried to avoid the outcome, his overly focused brain had neglected to control his body, and before he was able to stop himself, his foot came down atop your own, applying all of his weight.
"Fuck. I am so sorry." He pleas apologetically, concern flashing across his features, "I-"
"It's fine." You said through gritted teeth, holding back the discomfort you were currently facing. Even though the sneakers you chose were solid enough, they must be made of metal, considering the force at which he pierced your toes.
He sighed, frazzled and embarrassed- regret that he had agreed to attend this class. His hands coming up to meet the sides of his head, you feel sympathy just looking at him- he must be extremely nervous, and you wonder what events led up to him ending up here, crammed in a dance studio, stomping on your precious little toes.
The others continued around you, counting aloud or simply swaying to the tune, and with sheer determination, you chose to keep trying- certain that there was a solution to this crisis. Your lips parted, preparing to conjure up a sentence, thankful when he quickly spoke up,
"Maybe you can... take the lead?"
Willing to try anything, you nodded in agreement and stepped closer again, extending your arm as an invitation. He accepted graciously, slinging his hand atop your shoulder; his fingers were cool, fingers coming to a stop at the top of your back.
Wrapping your arm around his waist, you felt a sense of authority you hadn't known to be lacking. Taking far too much pride in gaining control, being the one who would guide your bodies in time with the tunes.
He seemed pleased to oblige, his free hand capturing your own, his palms swallowing yours whole, trapping it like he had decided it was his to keep.
Entangled in each other's arms again, you encouraged each of his steps, slowly moving in between one another as he finally started getting the hang of it. Before long, you stopped whisper-counting and focused on your partner.
It was sweet how focused he seemed, adamant to avoid any further slips and stomps. Your foot was still stinging dully, but his eyes were so clear, so focused on your own; he looked at you like he didn't want to be anywhere else.
Soon, moving in such sweet synchronicity that you began to dread that class was due to conclude not long from now. From the ever-increasing smile that only seemed to keep growing across his features, you could tell he was having fun. Time running out sucked for two reasons now, the latter being the look on his face when he found out it was over.
Time was going by faster than you could revel in the fondness you felt for this moment, and a massive part of you hoped he had joined this class of his own free will. At least then, you would be gifted the opportunity of seeing him again, perhaps even partnering up.
But, with the same frightful clap that had brought the class to a start, the instructor called for attention and went on to praise and commend the group. Regretfully, the two of you separated, falling back into the scattered line.
She concluded with all of the necessary information for next Wednesday's session, and with one final word of support, the instructor dismissed the class of out-of-breath but extremely enthusiastic students.
You meandered over to your belongings, taking your time to sluggishly slip your sweater on, shuffling around in your bag for your phone, and praying that your stranger-turned-dance-partner would find the courage to properly introduce himself.
Almost everyone had scattered along the entrance and the sidewalk of the building, some of them exchanging light conversation whilst others began their commute home.
To your dismay, the man whose arms you had just spent an entire half hour in, seems to have disappeared altogether. You glance shamefully in all directions, even delaying yourself a tad longer in the hopes that he would still exit the building.
When it was clear he was gone, you worked hard to get rid of the disappointment that surfaced in your guts, reasoning that it simply wasn't meant to be.
It seemed best to forget about this fluke- better to spend the walk home visualising and rehearsing the new dance steps you would finally be putting into practice at your second-cousins wedding this Saturday.

Was watching the opening of Blade (1998), and noticed when they credited the comics the line was
“Blade and Deacon Frost based on Marvel Comics characters created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan”.
It’s not too dissimilar from the “Batman created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger” credit in Batman Begins and the latter Nolan films.
But, it’s something I notice that the Marvel Studios films don’t do with any of their films. It’s just “Based on Marvel Comics Characters”.
