Mistletoe, Love, Romance, and Friends
Note: For @maleliddell, featuring her OC, Male Liddell + for @hphmsecretsanta. Hope you like it!
Charlie Weasley watched the snow fall, the mug of hot chocolate warming his hands as he listened to the dark hair girl talking softly. He had lost track of where the conversation was heading about ten minutes earlier, losing himself in her quiet voice. It was quite soothing, especially after a sleepless night. A few moments later a lull came, and Male Liddell’s head fell to his shoulder.
“What are your plans for the break?” Male asked.
“I’ll be going home. Ginny’s so excited about the holiday and everything. That’s all she can say in her letters lately,” Charlie answered.
“Your family is so fascinating. I can’t believe you all like each other.”
Charlie paused. He knew that Male had a difficult family life, even without truly factoring in her brother. “We do, most of the time. I guess I’m just lucky. But, hey, perhaps, you can come visit at some point. I’d invite you for Christmas, but my parents generally prefer a little more notice.”
“The thought counts, Charlie. It really does.”
Charlie’s lips twitched as he tried not to smile. “Well…” he began, his voice trailing off as a howl of wind came blowing a whiteout of snow across the window.
“Glad I’m not out there,” Male muttered, and Charlie snorted. She turned to look at him with a slightly dark look. “What?”
“Nothing, just voicing my agreement,” he replied.
They fell into a comfortable quiet, watching and listening as the snow fell and the wind howl. But Charlie and Male were warm and comfortable. And Male had chosen to pass the time with him.
What neither knew or noticed, though, was that a small sprig of mistletoe hung above their heads.

Sims 4 Valicer Outfit Fun II -- CC Edition
We interrupt your regularly-scheduled Chill Valicer Save updates with another "watch me play dress-up with my OT3 in Sims 4" post, courtesy of me downloading a bunch of custom content outfits a few weeks ago and having period brain this past weekend. :p Sometimes you gotta keep it simple, you know? Anyway, here's some new outfits for Smiler, Victor, and Alice, all with a lovely CC bent --
First up, Smiler in an outfit from @the-crypt-o-club's 2022 Simblrween offering, Angsty Adolescence! The half-plain-black, half-black-and-yellow-checked pants were a MUST -- they remind me a bit of what Agent Joytide was wearing during the Smiler Takeover! The alternating yellow-and-black plastic bracelets also felt very appropriate to The Smiler's general theme, and of course I had to give them the yellow sneakers with the happy face and rainbow doodles and the cute Freezer Bunny t-shirt in yellow. XD I think Smiler's also sporting some custom eye make-up, though I don't know if that's from this particular pack or one of The Crypt-O-Club's other Simblrween offerings. Looks good, though -- great for a party outfit!
Next up, let's have a Victorian Smiler, courtesy of @simmerofthedawn and their Men's Day Wear set from Part One of their Victorian Collection! This is a great set of men's suits, in both darker colors for Autumn/Winter and lighter palettes for Spring/Summer, so you'll always have a suit appropriate to the season! Plus they made a copy of the Vampires top hat and gave it SO many more swatches -- "33 shades" as per their own post! Seriously, the set is worth downloading just for THAT ALONE in my opinion. I naturally had to put Smiler in the swatch that contained the most yellow, and that proved to be this particular outfit -- even if the colors are a tad more muted than I'd like. Still, they look snazzy, and it is SO NICE to have a top hat that matches their outfit perfectly! :D
We now move onto Victor's section, featuring him in his Crypt-O-Club outfit -- or, at least, one of their Freezer Bunny shirts from the Angsty Adolescence collection, in a kicky blue. I'm not 100% sure on the shorts and shoes, though I would GUESS they're also CC, as that's what I was mainly working with during this "playing dress-up in CAS" section. *shrug* Either way, he looks pretty nice -- I think this would be a good "workout" look for him!
Back to Simmer Of The Dawn's Men's Day Wear for this picture, with Victor showing off one of the darker swatches for his outfit. In fact, I chose this particular outfit because it's actually as close to a "canon" Victor outfit as I'll probably ever get! The top half isn't quite right -- wrong type of necktie, waistcoat fastens too low down, coat tails are too long -- but it's still good, and the pants are REALLY good. Maybe a BIT dark, but still REALLY close to Victor's canon trousers. I approve. :D
And while we're on the "Victor in actual Victorian clothes" train, here's Victor sporting a suit from Simmer Of The Dawn's Victorian Collection Part Four -- the Men's Day Suit collection! These also come in darker tones for Autumn/Winter and lighter ones for Spring/Summer, and feature higher waistcoats, slightly different tails on the coats, and bow ties. Victor's in a Spring/Summer light blue ensemble because I thought it looked nice on him and fit his usual color scheme, paired with a pretty gray top hat. Perfect for a promenade around town!
The top hat from Simmer Of the Dawn remains, but we move onto a different creator for this outfit (minus the gloves and shoes) -- Historical Sims Life on blogspot, with their Boldness Beckons outfit converted from Sims 3! This is a nice, more wintery look for Victor, bundled up with a thick neck scarf against the cold. :) He looks very smart indeed!
And finally, we end on a couple of Alice outfits, starting again with Crypt-O-Club's stuff! Alice here is sporting a dress from I believe the DIY Or Die fan pack -- what can I say, it looked really good on her! The shoes are another swatch of the Angsty Adolescence Converse (seriously, I love those, with all the fun doodles all over them -- you can customize them for any personality), while the stockings should ALSO be Angsty Adolescence, but might be from another pack -- I've downloaded ALL their "fan made stuff packs" at this point, so. . . XD Still, it's a great "punk princess" look for her I feel!
And as for the Victorian look, I found this by @vintagesimstress -- the 1890s Working Girl Mini-Set! A couple of blouses and a trio of skirts based off what working-class ladies wore in the 1890s, as indicated -- Alice is wearing the shortest of the three skirt lengths because I like being able to see her feet. XD The set also comes with an apron overlay that you can put on as an "accessory" (under the "tights/stocking" option), but I forgot to put that on ^^;. Still, it's nice to see Alice in a classic Victorian blouse and skirt! Even if it's a bit weird to see her in anything that long. XD

You sighed as you saw his baby blue form from the queen’s balcony. Ever since your ‘relationship’ had begun with the outsider things had been…different. Even the Queen of Hearts turned a blind eye when Alice openly threatened your coworkers.
“Here he comes…” You sighed out loud alerting the queen who was sipping on her tea.
“I’ll be finishing up then. If you would escort him up here. I’d like to avoid another….incident like last time.”
“Yes, my queen.” You bowed before excusing yourself from the Queen’s tea room. As soon as you shut the heart doors, you made use of your bunny legs; booking it down the tower stairs. Hopping past the card guards you thankfully were able to meet with Alice before he made it to the second floor.
“Oh hi, baby! How was work today? Have you eaten yet?” Immediately thousands of questions flew from pink lips as the man tightly held you against his chest.
You returned the hug if only to signal with your hands to the newbie guards. Thankfully taking the hint they returned to their post and you kept Alice occupied.
“Uh Alice, the queen wanted to have tea with you.”
Alice grimaced, “Tea? During your lunch?! Has that woman truly gone insane?!”
You calmed him the best you could, being sure to hold his hand close to your chest. He blushed heavily immediately changing his face from a scowl to a satisfied smile. Riding off his high you dragged him up the steps; chuckling in your head when he tripped trying to keep up with you. Finally arrived at those same heart-shaped doors you knocked on before presenting your boyfriend.
“Your highness, Alice Liddell.”
You stood at attention letting Alice come into the room. Without looking at him your ears shrunk back with his intimidating visage. In direct competition the queen gives off her own intense aura one that refuses to falter at his entry.
“Hearts. Are you really going to let my bunny work during their lunch?”
Despite the near growling Alice was doing the queen was biting in her response.
“Please, you come in here without even a curtsy demanding to know what I do with my staff! I don’t have to tell you anything.”
You watched the vein popping out of his clenched fist as he harshly glared at the Queen of Hearts who kept her face still. In a silent conversation delivered through their respective glares, Alice groaned sitting across from the queen who pridefully sipped her piping hot tea. With the clink of her cup to it’s saucer, she hummed before directing her burgundy gaze to you.
“Take your lunch (Y/n). And send for the twins; give them instructions to stay outside the room until the tea is red once more.”
“Yes, your highness. Excuse me.”
You bowed quickly, hopping at posthaste with your clock out of your suit pocket. With the door closed and the two finally alone all, if any existed in the first place, platitudes were dropped. The queen let her stone-face wrinkle with disgust as she held her chin up high and crossing her arms.
“The scent of an outsider is undebatingly repulsive!”
“Your one to talk…not many would want to be a room with a cannibal while they eat.”
They continued to glare at one another once more before pulling away. Alice looked out the window seeing your white ears bob through the maze as you left to eat your lunch. Alice clenched his teeth determined to see you before your break was over.
“You deprive me of my special lunch with my bunny…what do you want, Hearts?”
“Don’t act like your not smothering them…but anyway I need to know the extent at which you intend to continue your hunt?”
The pout Alice wore became a wide sadistic smile.
The queen continued, “The only reason none are acutely aware of my tastes is moderation…something you are not showing despite being granted your ‘antidote’.”
“Awwww,” Alice feigned sadness. Gleefully leaning as he spoke,” Must you refer to my love so coldly? With how much I’ve had to do to get your approval for so much as dating them is insane.”
The queen didn’t speak instead letting a shadow cover the half of her face as she turned her head.
Alice went on,“No. Normally a husband wouldn’t have to do so much to appease their inlaws.”
“...Don’t be presumptuous. I think your wrongly under the impression that we won’t bear our spears towards the only outsider we’ve let change the fate of our world.”
“Oh? But didn’t you try that already? That’s why the dormmouse and the mock turtle no longer exist, don’t you remember?”
A vein began to show on the queens forehead, eventually dissipating as she released her clutch against the folds of her dress. With a sigh of calm she forged on.
“They were acting on their own volition. That was not a collective effort. But depending on your results that may change.”
Alice for once faltered unable to recognize the look in the queen’s eyes. A woman who’d sooner behead someone in an angry fit of rage than actually diffuse the situation. A queen who delighted in a rotten consumption with intentions to behead all who refused to comply. The queen who’s anger nearly destroyed Wonderland…twice.
She was calm.
And Alice didn’t know why.
“What does that mean?”
“Don’t worry about that now Alice.” Returning his curious wrinkle in his brow with that stone-faced visage of a true queen. She took a sip of her tea pulling away to smile with unsmudged blood red lips.
“ Consider this a warning, Alice Lidell: Wonderland may not be a place of order but it is a place of heart. And we protect our hearts no matter how inconsequential they may seem.”
Before Alice could say any more the door opened showing the youngest twin giving an elegant curtsy that was borderline mocking as she wordlessly beckoned the man in blue. Alice turned again standing to make a point only to be startled by the other twin silently twirling his mini mallet already behind the queen.

Finally exiting the tower Alice left in an even worse mood than before. He felt something he no longer associated with when he was in Wonderland.
Confusion.
He thought he had dispelled it from his system and that the world no longer quivered with unfamiliar haze. But it did. And Alice couldn’t bring himself to happily chase after his bunny, the feeling racked his body with a stillness he hated to remember.
“Alice? You doing okay?”
The harmony of your voice graced Alice’s ears, snapping his head up in surprise. Twitching in all your rabbit glory Alice spied the cloth-wrapped bundle you gingerly held to your chest. Smelling the aroma of freshly baked bread he tilted his head in curiosity.
“Oh yeah, Duke made some widget bread for Hatter’s. I picked out the widgets for you so you could at least eat something.”
Wasting no time you placed the bundle in his arms before hopping past him to reenter the heart themed tower. Hearing the creak of the door and not its slamming, Alice turned around to see you with your foot in the door.
“So? Was I right? She didn’t feed you, right?”
Alice had to compose himself. Silently gulping saliva into his mouth he confirmed, blushing at the regression of his actions towards you. Once again unburying the feelings he thought he had overcome.
“Figured. She’s always forgetting to feed her guests, anyway see you after work!” Blowing a half-hearted kiss you disappeared behind the barrier of those heart-shaped doors.
Realizing he needed to breath, Alice floored himself now pouting with the bread in his hands. How could he let you go without your lunchtime kiss? But he figured he’d survive with the image of your bunny-cuteness sent in a blown kiss for him…just for him. With a skip in his step Alice began to make his way off the Heart’s property with one thing in his heart and the confusion that gripped him
He wasn’t giving (Y/n) up that was for sure and since his…protective habits were the issue then he’d change things. Just like they wanted. He has the love of his life. If his hunting was the problem he’d move to a different forest. This is his dream after all and who were they to rectify the confused and ‘lost’ Alice Liddell.

My thoughts on the general idea that isekai anime started to go downhill when they started to be written by men featuring male protagonists in wish-fulfillment adventures is that if you look beyond the current trends of isekai--beyond anime, even--you'll find that there are a lot of works of isekai (or, as they're called in English, "portal fantasy") written by men that featured girl protagonists that didn't have the same issues people find in current isekai when discussing the genre's flaws. (Some of these works are a lot older, and have other issues relevant to the time, but that's another topic.)
Off the top of my head, you have L. Frank Baum, Lewis Carroll, and C.S. Lewis as examples of men who wrote portal fantasies with girls as protagonists that didn't have the same issues that you see people criticize in isekai anime. The main difference I could see between their works and isekai anime that people dislike is that they were writing for a more general audience of children. More often than not, they also had younger girls who were either related to them or the children of friends of theirs that inspired them to write those stories. Lewis dedicated The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe to his goddaughter Lucy, Lewis Carroll wrote for Alice Liddell and her family, etc.
Even looking at more recent examples of isekai/isekai-adjacent works that feature girls and are written by men--Coraline by Neil Gaiman, Labyrinth by Jim Henson, Pan's Labyrinth by Guillermo del Toro--if you look up interviews by those people, they often cite their daughters as inspiration for the stories and protagonists they wrote.
The underlying theme I see here, is that none of them were horny while writing their works. (There's debate about Carroll, but I'm not going to go into that for now.)
I'm not saying that you have to be a dad if you're a man writing these kinds of works, but there is a general sense of empathy for the younger protagonists that doesn't involve sexualizing underage characters. I think that's one of the main reasons why these stories are different from current isekai that people often criticize. Just my two cents.
(There is one European isekai that is written by a man and features an overpowered male protagonist--that would be Michael Ende's The Neverending Story. But that story makes it a plot point about what happens when the isekai protagonist becomes too powerful for his own good.)

2000-Year-Old Ancient Greek ‘Graduate School Yearbook’ Carved in Stone Found
Historians have discovered that an ancient Greek inscription on a marble slab in the collection of the National Museums of Scotland is a rare, previously unknown “graduate school yearbook” type list of names.
The carved letters on this marble are a list of ephebic friends, and close friends, who passed through the ephebate in Athens, a year of rigorous military and civil training during the reign of Emperor Claudius (AD 41-54).
An ephebus was a youth in ancient Greece who had reached the age of puberty. Ephebi (the plural of “ephebus”) aged 18 or 19 were at one time required to undergo two years of stringent military training, but the requirement became less compulsory and the training less rigorous and militaristic over time. The youthfulness of the ephebi inspired the adjective “ephebic”.
Ephebic training became a requirement for all young males eligible for admission as Attic citizens in the 4th century B.C. If they were 18 years old of Attic parentage on both sides, the youths would be de jure citizens, but to actually exercise those rights (vote, be a party to a lawsuit, attend the assembly), first, they had to sign up for two years of military studies. The requirement was ultimately dropped, and by the 2nd century B.C., ephebic training was open to foreigners and the study of literature and philosophy was added to the curriculum. From roughly 39 A.D., everyone who had completed an ephebic training was considered an Attic citizen.
It lists a group of 31 friends who went through the Athenian ephebate together during the reign of the Roman Emperor Claudius (AD 41-54) and was intended to commemorate the close relationships they had formed.
When they read heard about it, experts assumed it was a replica of a similar list in the collection of the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, but when they examined it, they realized that was not the case.
Because inscriptions from this time period are uncommon, scholars say it’s even more remarkable that the newly discovered ephebic list dates from the same year and cohort as the Ashmolean’s inscription.
Dr. Peter Liddel, professor of Greek history and epigraphy at the University of Manchester, who led the discovery, said: “Because of lockdown we were not able to travel to the museum until July 2021, and on seeing it we realized that this was not a copy of an already known inscription but it was a completely unique new discovery which had been in the storerooms of the NMS for a very long time, since the 1880s, and it listed a group of young men who called themselves co-ephebes or co-cadets and friends.
“It turned out to be a list of the cadets for one particular year during the period 41-54 AD, the reign of Claudius, and it gives us new names, names we’d never come across before in ancient Greek, and it also gives us among the earliest evidence for non-citizens taking part in the ephebate in this period.
The top of the plaque is peaked and a worn relief believed to depict a small oil amphora of the type ephebes would have used in the school gymnasium. It is not known where the list was displayed but it is thought it could have been put up somewhere such as the gymnasium where the young men trained.
In the archonship of Metrodoros, when the superintendent was Dionysodoros (son of Dionysodoros) of Phlya, Attikos son of Philippos, having inscribed his own fellow ephebes (and) friends, dedicated (this).
The 31 names are inscribed in two columns under the dedication. Attikos’ select bros in the ephebate were Aiolion, Dionysas, Anthos, Herakon, Theogas, Charopeinos, Tryphon, Dorion, Phidias, Symmachos, Athenion, Antipas, Euodos, Metrobios, Hypsigonos, Apollonides, Hermas, Theophas, (H?)elis, Atlas, Zopyros, Euthiktos, Mousais, Aneiketos, Sekoundos, Zosimos, Primos, Dionys, Eisigenes, Sotas and Androneikos.

If anyone needs to see this, the ancient Greek word latinized as "pais" was just the word for "child". I saw it being misused in a hot take on Tumblr yesterday regarding the centurion story but couldn't find the post this morning. Since Greek is gendered, there is both a male and female declension ending for how it was used in the sentence. It's presence in the centurion story in Matthew 8:6 does not indicate a homosexual relationship. Liddell-Scott has been the authoritative lexicon for ancient Greek into English for a long time. There is no mention of a gay relationship in this entry of the lexicon. It was also used for one's own children, but it could be used generically for children, or could also be used in some cases for servants and slaves too.
So the child could have been the centurion's own son, which would make the account closer to a similar story in the Gospel of John chapter 4. The words "pais" and "huios" were used interchangeably in the John 4 story so that is clearly referring to the official's son despite the official using "pais" to refer to his own son in John 4:49. Back to the Matthew 8 story, scholars have interpreted "pais" as servant due to the context of the passage, but the word does not clearly define the relationship because like in Matthew 8:8, the phrase "ho pais mou" is literally "my (male) child".
So even though the child could have been a son, it is also possible that the child was a servant, apprentice, or slave being abused by the centurion. The ancient pagan Greeks saw an older male's sexual relationship with a male child as a respected form of mentorship, and the pagan Romans emulated the Greeks. However, even if that was the case then it was not the servant or slave child's fault that he was being abused in a homosexual pedophilic relationship. Jesus could have just commended the Roman centurion's faith and had mercy on the centurion's victim without wanting to piss off the Romans by going against the accepted Greco-Roman norms of slavery, pedophilia, and sexual coercion. This event was early in the ministry of Jesus and not in His time to die yet. He hadn't even gotten all the Disciples yet at this point in time (the calling of the disciple St. Matthew was later in chapter 9.) He probably would have died a lot sooner had He denounced a centurion like that, and there would not have been 12 Apostles. Also, there probably would not have been a Gospel of Matthew written since St Matthew had not been called yet, had Jesus denounced the centurion for pedophilic abuse at that moment.
Whatever the case, the story of the centurion and the child is not approval by Jesus of homosexual pedophilic relationships, especially given the context of the rest of the Bible. A better argument could be made to soften the interpretation of the rhetoric of St Paul against homosexuality by considering the Greco-Roman culture of male homosexual pedophilia and their concept of the penetrator being the dominant one and not really gay, while the penetrated was the servant or submissive one and therefore the actual gay person. That is why pagan Roman officials could penetrate other guys without being judged for being gay. The slaves and foreigners could be penetrated, but not Roman men (especially officials and politicians). It was a system of sexual exploitation, and the early Catholic Church should be given at least some credit for removing acceptance of homosexual pedophilia from mainstream society and instead recognizing pedophilia now as a terrible sin to prosecute (even if deviant priests are guilty of it).
