HP OC Concept (2/3): Miss Fortescue

The eldest daughter and second child of a renowned muggle anthropologist and a renowned pureblood historian, Miss Fortescue grew up with a love of all things ancient. As a result of her half-blood heritage, she grew fascinated by the ways that magical and muggle history intersected. Upon starting Hogwarts, she was sorted into Ravenclaw, where she was eventually named prefect and headgirl. She also discovered a desire for adventure, a want to see the world. After Hogwarts, she becomes a historian and an amateur archeologist and anthropologist.

HP OC Concept (1/3): Brosnan Lynch

Legend had it that Brosnan Robert Lynch’s ancestor, Cormac Lynch, had fallen in love with a beautiful selkie in the 1600s. Brosnan (born late 1920s or early 1930s) wasn’t too sure what to make of the legend, but his family had resided on the Donegal coast for centuries. And so, he wasn’t that concerned with the legend… even if he has always felt an unusual kinship with the ocean. For the most part, though, Brosnan refused to act like it was a big deal. After all, the selkies of the textbooks were ugly creatures, nothing like the seals of muggle legend. The eldest son of six children, Brosnan, like those before him, was sorted into Slytherin when he started Hogwarts and gained a firsthand viewing of the way that Tom Riddle corrupted the house. Oh yeah, and as he grows older, Brosnan starts to pick up on weird things going on with his family.

HP OC Concept (3/3): Unnamed Marauders Era Lynch Boy

The son of Brosnan Lynch, born 1959/60, he spent most of his early childhood in New York City and attended Ilvermorny for three years. At the age of 14, his family moved back to the British Isles. It was a bit of a shock, but he adapted well. A former student of Horned Serpent, he was sorted into Slytherin just like many of the Lynches before him. For the most part, he kept a low profile while some of his cousins entered the ranks of the death eaters. He himself had never even thought of joining the death eaters and was repulsed by the idea. However, when he was 17, he was wrongfully arrested for and convicted of a murder that he never committed. In the old tradition of Lynch turning on Lynch, one of his cousins named him as the perpetrator. Unlike the messy murder of Tadhg Lynch in 1897, his cousin was the clear perpetrator. In 1997, he was exonerated by the work of Kingsley Shacklebolt who had discovered odd discrepancies with the Lynch boy’s case and with some pointers from Sirius Black, who vaguely remembered the American son of the ministry’s ambassador to MACUSA.

Describe your character's physicality. How do they move? Posture, muscle density, body shape, height, confidence, athleticism, stamina, bone structure, quirks, and "flaws." How is their internal reality expressed through their body?

The Honorable Mr. Neil Pemberton stood at 6’1”. When standing still, Neil held his body rigid and tight, leaning heavily on his cane. His right leg, severely damaged by a horse riding accident when he was sixteen, was held especially taut. Neil’s gait when walking is also impacted by his damaged leg. He walks slowly, lurching along more often than not.

In addition, Neil’s damaged right leg severely inhibits his athleticism. Once an avid athlete, Neil spends his time sitting on the sidelines, watching other men and women dance and interact. While doing this, he slouches. His right leg is fully extended because bending his knee for too long caused a ton of pain and Neil would rather not dull his mind through the use of laudanum or alcohol. The pain from his right leg, a constant companion for years, also affects Neil’s stamina. He gets fatigued easily. He can’t walk as far as he’d like.

For the most part, it’s hard to see Neil’s resentment on his body. He’s mostly come to terms with the reality that his leg will never heal and that he’ll never dance or run or hunt or box again. But, when he slouches at balls where he’d normally sit up, it’s hard to miss the way that Neil mourns what he’d never had the opportunity to do. Pitying looks, though, always straighten Neil’s posture. He refuses to be pitied.
