Ok but like if they all came back to life, I feel like it could go one of two directions with how the choir reacts afterward
They could either never bring up what happened with Karnak because it was like too painful or something
Or it could go in the complete opposite direction with them constantly bringing up what happened, usually to make fun of each other
Like one day this one teacher is being a huge jackass so when the teacher asks if they have any fun facts they’d like to share with the class Noel just stands up and goes “When a lioness has children-“
Ocean and Constance are desperately trying not to laugh
Mischa makes it a personal game to call as many people as possible a spielverderber
Somebody is talking for a really long time during a presentation and when it’s over Ricky just signs “And that is why not everyone should have a library card!” while Mischa just tries to not burst out laughing
Penny will sometimes recite Ricky’s Silver Surfer speech just so she can laugh about it later when people are like “Wow. So deep 🥲”
Sometimes you’ll just hear one of them humming everyone’s songs
The funniest time this has happened is when Noel caught Ocean humming “This Song Is Awesome”
Constance bakes everyone Zolar themed cupcakes and they’re so good

Maddy Perez x reader (gender not specified)

euphoria masterlist
Summary: Maddy can't see that the perfect one for her is Y/N
posted: January 27,2024
Tumblr media
Almost everyone knows how toxic Maddy and Nate is. If you don't know anything about their relationship you basically live under a rock.
The person who knew the most was Y/n a timid person but with a loud personality that's why Maddy and them got along so well.
It even got to the point where everyone thought they were a couple and only Y/n wishes for such a thing.
Because they and everyone else believes they are perfect for Maddy.
Except Maddy. ^
You let the wrong people love you
But you don't see that, do you?
When you cry and need my comfort
I drop everything to come over
Nate fucked up again and Maddy is paying for it again.
They were in her room making out and her phone kept ringing. It was this guy that was like obsessed with Maddy.
Nate saw it, got angry, threw stuff like the man he is, Maddy started crying, Nate didn't care, and blah blah blah. He left and Maddy is still crying and immediately texted you.
You were doing homework and a project at the same time when you got a text.
Maddy <3
can u please come over need ur comfort again??
You immediately went to her house.
The homework and project is due next week anyway.
Don't bite your lip or grit your teeth
Just count to ten and try to breathe
You stupid bitch, can't you see
the perfect one for you is me?
You were over at Maddys again trying to her calm down. "He's such a cunt Y/n! I did nothing fucking wrong!" You were quick to agree and still trying to get her to calm down.
"Just count to ten and try to breathe babe." You call everyone babe so of course Maddy isn't gonna find anything weird with the nickname.
She slowly started to calm down. "Thanks Y/n I can always count on you. You're literally my soulmate." She smiled and pulled you into a hug.
If only she said that out of a romantic love instead of a platonic one.
Maddy is your soulmate.
But she's too fucking dumb to see that.
"Anything for you Mads."
The perfect one for you is me
The perfect one for you is me
You stupid bitch, can't you see
the perfect one for you is me?
You and Maddy were taking a walk around the block. An old couple was walking the opposite way and they saw you guys.
"Oh well you guys are the most beautiful young couple l've ever seen!" The old lady says with a smile.
Before you correct her Maddy was a little too quick to jump to the opportunity.
"Oh we're not together I have a boyfriend." Yea for two more days, is what you wanted to say but the old lady just apologized and said
"Well I can tell the one you have now is not the one."
Literally everyone knows it but her.
You don't know what you deserve
And that's why you end up hurt
But you never listen
Take my advice as criticism
"Maddy he doesn't deserve you!" You and Maddy were arguing over the fact that Nate is a piece of shit. You think she doesn’t deserve to be treated like a piece of plastic but she believes that he’s just broken and needs someone to help him.
“You don’t known him Y/n! He needs someone to help him!”
“Yeah a fucking therapist! You shouldn’t have to pay for his actions Mads!” She just shook her head. “He treats you like shit! Every time something happens he storms off like a fucking bitch. He doesn’t care about you, Maddy. He just knows you will never leave him.”
“He does care Y/n! He’ll kill for me and I’ll kill for him. You just don’t know what true love looks like because you’ve been treated like shit in all of your relationships!” You knew she didn’t mean that so you just brushed it off.
“You don’t know what you deserve Maddy and when he puts his hands on you, which he will, don’t come crying to me!” You stormed out of her room and she heard the door slam and immediately started crying.
Her mom, who heard the whole thing. Just stared at her. Maddy looked up wondering why her own mother is not comforting her.
“Tienen razón Maddy. Puede parecer amor verdadero, pero es todo menos eso y muy pronto lo verás tal como es.”
(They are right Maddy. It may feel like true love but it’s anything but that and you will see him for who he truly is very soon.)
Then make the worst decisions
She went back to him but you weren’t surprised in any way. She can be stupid if she wants, you stopped caring.
You saw her the Monday after the fair and you guys made eye contact and she looked pale and very tired. She was also dressed in a turtleneck, since when did she wear a turtleneck in hot weather. Then it hit you.
‘I knew it, he fucking choked her.’
Don't bite your lip or grit your teeth
Just count to ten and try to breathe
You stupid bitch, can't you see
The perfect one for you is me?
When you see Maddie having a breakdown in the cafeteria and only Cassie comforting her at school you can tell she needs you. Really bad.
So you go over and just sit down and hug her. No questions asked. And she gladly accepted the hug and just cried into your shoulder.
“It’s alright Mads.”
The perfect one for you is me
The perfect one for you is me
You stupid bitch, can't you see
The perfect one for you is me?
After Maddy had your comfort. She’s been on you like crazy. Trying to kiss you and all. You thought this is what you wanted but not like this. Not after Nate.
“Maddy please. Just chill out.” You said trying to pull her arms off you. and she’s still trying to kiss you and hug you.
“You know your the best ever right? Even better than Nate.”
This is fucking bullshit.
Don't bite your lip or grit your teeth
Just count to ten and try to breathe
You stupid bitch, can't you see
The perfect one for you is me?
Another shitshow with Nate and Maddy. You’re honestly sick of this shit.
You gotta tell her how you feel.
_____
“Maddy I can’t do this anymore.”
“Do what?”
“You know what Maddy! This fucking hot and cold shit. I’m done being the therapist.”
“If it was that serious why did you keep doing it?!”
“Because I was in love with you Maddy! I was fucking in love. But now I’m not so?!”
“What do you mean you’re not?”
“I mean I’m not Maddy. Bye.” You walked out and just left her.
You never felt so fucking free.
The perfect one for you is me
The perfect one for you is me
You stupid bitch, can't you see
She just couldn’t see you were perfect for her and will continue to get hurt. But you’re okay with that.
The perfect one for you is me?

Incorrect Quotes ft. the Liddell-Van Dorts
. thought i'd give this generator a go and i absolutely am so glad i did .
Alice: Hello, I'm Alice. I work at a shop now. Here to help. Look, they gave me a badge with my name on it in case I forget it. Very helpful, as that does happen.
Shapeshifter: *transforms to look like Maddie* Maddie: Okay, are you like BLIND? You look nothing like me. First off, I'm way taller. Secondly, I DO NOT look so sleep deprived and lastly, if you could drag comb through that hair you're like a 7 on a good day and I've been told I'm a constant 10.
Maddie, writing in their diary with a glitter gel pen: I'm losing my sense of humanity. Nothing matters. God is dead. There's blood on my hands.
Victor: What can therapy do for me that screaming in my car for 30 minutes can’t?
Alice: If I can't cause tiny bits of chaos every day, I think my body will shut down.
Cop: You ran a red light. Alice: So did you, hypocrite. Cop: I was following you. Alice: That was dumb, I'm a terrible driver. Cop: Get out.
Victor: I've got a weapon, and I'm... admittedly VERY afraid to use it!
Alice: Remember, when burying a body, make sure to cover it with endangered plants so it’s illegal to dig up! Alice: Make sure to follow me for more gardening tips!
Victor: BEHOLD, the field in which I grow my fucks! Lay thine eyes upon it, and thou shalt see that it is barren!
Maddie: What, I can’t be in a bad mood? It’s like people think, “Oh, Maddie is such a nice person, Maddie is so happy-go-lucky! Maddie can’t be in a bad mood!” Well, you know what? Maddie CAN be in a bad mood. And right now, Maddie IS be in a bad mood.
Alice: Social distancing says you shouldn't be within an elbow's distance of each other. *later, in a barfight* Alice: Social distancing doesn't say nothing about feet! *kicks opponent in the face*
Victor: Sometimes I wonder if I’m hearing voices. Victor: Then I remember that’s the last bit of sanity I have trying to get me to fall asleep at a reasonable time.
Maddie: Well, if you're not at least a little bit gay for your friends, then what kind of friend are you?
Alice: I apologize for saying 'fuck' in front of Maddie. Victor: You just said it again. Maddie: Alice: I am not a role model.
Alice: How long do you reckon it’ll be until Maddie finally snaps and commits murder? Victor: I’ve been going through life assuming it’s already happened at some point and it’s just that no one was ever able to trace it back to her.
Maddie: Victor, Alice, I love y’all and all, but can I ask what in the hell are you doing? Victor, trying to stabilize a tower of folding chairs that Alice is sitting atop: Oh nothing much. Alice: I love you too :)
Alice: Guys where did Maddie go? Victor: She got arrested. Alice: How the hell- Maddie: *bursts in through the window* The cops are after me, I thought it would be fun to steal crackers and throw them at people.
Alice: Maddie, what do you have? Maddie: A KNIFE! Alice: Okay, have fu- Victor: NO!
Maddie: Would you take a bullet for me? Victor: ...yes? *Alice angrily bursts into the room* Maddie: *running away* Great, thanks!
Maddie, washing the dishes: Who the fuck used this pan?? Maddie: Wait. I the fuck used this pan… Victor: It was you the fuck. Maddie: It was I the fuck… Alice: Who cooks rice in a pan? Victor: She the fuck.
Victor: Why would anyone want to harm Maddie? Alice: Maybe because they met her?
Maddie: Mom, that’s disgusting. You’re only giving free stuff to beautiful people. Victor: Yeah, you should be ashamed of yourself. Alice: Oh yeah? *gets really close to Victor* How about a muffin on the house baby? Victor, giggling: I’m pretty.
Victor: You know, it’s fine to admit you were wrong. Maddie: *Sipping their drink after accidentally adding salt* I just like the way it tastes.
Victor: If we lose, you’re out of the will. Maddie: I was in the will?
Victor: Am I right, Maddie? Maddie: I’m almost certain you’re not, but to be fair, I wasn’t listening.
Alice: What situation is not instantly improved by the addition of fishnets, I ask you. Maddie: Being a fish. Alice: Well, shit.
Alice: What the fuck is wrong with you?? Maddie: What? No good morning? Alice: Good morning, what the fuck is wrong with you??
Victor: *chokes on something* Maddie: Jeez, Victor, don't die on us. Victor: Don't tell me what to do, I'll die whenever the hell I want!
Maddie: You know what I’ve realized? Alice: Some thoughts are better left unsaid? Maddie: Nice try, anyways-
Maddie: Help! I’m drowning! Victor: Calm down. We’re only in six feet of water! Maddie: NOT ALL OF US ARE TALL!
Victor: Talk dirty to me, baby~ Alice: The dishes. Victor: Wh- Alice: They’ve been there for 4 days and it’s your turn to wash them. You still haven’t cleaned them and I have asked you to do so several times.
Alice: *sees someone doing something stupid* Alice: What an idiot. Alice: *realizes it's Maddie* Alice: Wait, that's MY idiot!

01/15/2023 - a list of reasons that jack and carolinas relationship absolutely does not work
-they arent friends.
-they never just sit and have a conversation. its always either sex or silence with them. theyre either laying on each other asleep or fucking, they dont bond and they never have
-they dont know each other (she has a list of everything about him that she should know after just spending a little bit of time with him, and she has to ask me for help picking out his gifts bc i (by her own admittance) know him better than her)
-the gifts that they get each other are so telling of how little they know/care about each other. he gets her stuffed animals and jewelry that he has to be told she would like by her "friends". she gets him copies of stuff ive already bought him/us so its already been test ran (chains, rings, shoes). they clearly dont know each others likes and dislikes which is like relationship 101
-they never solve their issues, they either ignore them until they go away or they fuck it out and then ignore them until they go away, and they both fully acknowledge that this is something that they do but they dont ever try to fix it
-shes an idiot, and hes very much not an idiot, so they cant relate to each other on anything. she literally almost didnt graduate bc she failed math so many times and hes going to school to study theoretical physics. and he refuses to acknowledge how dumb she is past a joke so they can never have a real conversation about anything of interest, especially anything hes interested in, and its all superficial nonsense
-her family refuses to include him properly (they wont speak english around him), and she refuses to speak up about this so he never wants to do anything involving her family. he complains about it endlessly but doesnt have enough self respect to tell her to straighten them out
-shes delusional and clearly thinks that theyre gonna get married even though theyre a shit couple and literally everyone thinks so, but he clearly thinks that shes just having fun when she says that shit so theyre not at all on the same page relationship wise
-shes a fucking bitch and thinks its cute. (eg. telling maddie how much prom tickets cost after i said over and over again not to and when i told her that that wasnt cute she just smiled and pretended that she hadnt heard me (and when i looked at jack and said "i hate your girlfriend" he said "me too" so.. that seems not great for them)) -
-she does those stupid fucking "death glare" eyes that she thinks are intimidating-even though she just looks like a moron when she does it-towards any girl woman that looks in the general direction of jack despite the fact that they very much do not want him. like.. she clearly does not do well with the fucking "oPeN reLaTiONsHiP" and just lies to him about liking it bc she wants to keep him but hes too stupid to realize that hes being lied to and hes too stupid to realize that hes too stupid to realize that hes being lied to so he wont listen to people that tell him whats actually going on.
-i have never, not even one time, seen him have some sort of relationship with someone other than carolina that didnt end in a fight between the two of them. she always throws a fit about how hes leaving her and shes not enough for him and hes forced to feel guilty about something that is fundamentally okay within the bounds of their relationship and has to comfort her about it even though he did nothing wrong. thats classic psychological abuse but he doesnt care bc he refuses to even consider that carolinas not happy because that would mean that hes doing something wrong and god knows thats just impossible
-they dont acknowledge or respect each others boundaries. he doesnt acknowledge her dislike of the relationship dynamic and therefore cannot respect it. she kept roping people (meghan and company) into his life again and continued to do so after he explicitly told her that he was uncomfortable with it and that he didnt want to be around her. they keep forcing each other into horrible situations because they cannot grasp that their boundaries are not compatible with each other

fezco calling out a friend who says some gross shit about lexi
Ashtray pulled the car to a stop and turned off the engine, his eyes wandering over to the crowd littered around the front yard of some random dude's house. A silence set in the car between him, Fezco and Lexi as the three of them started shuffling around to get out of the car. "Yoo,” Fezco bellowed and froze in his tracks, grabbing something from behind his little brother's ear; in the faint illumination of the light coming from the house, Lexi could recognize it as a cigarette. "What I told you 'bout these? Quit actin' dumb, boy."  Fezco shook his head like a disappointed father, bringing his hand to gently smack the back of Ashtray's head in the dark. The younger boy groaned and rolled his eyes as he opened the door, stepping onto the driveway; there was an annoyed look in his eyes when he eyed Fez putting the cigarette behind his own ear. Lexi couldn't help herself from smiling as he followed the two of them, silently listening in on to their quiet bickering over the cigarette Fezco had confiscated - the argument lasted all the way from the car to the front door that was splayed open. Slowly the boys' voices got lost into the loud music that made Lexi's ears rin and her teeth chatter with the bass that she swore could reach her bones. Fezco let Ashtray walk before him, slowing down his walking to let Lexi catch up to him. He looked at her, throwing his arm over her shoulder as they slid their way through the crowd. "Your sister here?"  "Yeah," Lexi said with a quick nod, eyeing the crowd with some curiosity. "Don't know where, though. I think she pregamed with Maddy and the girls."  Fez made a swift stop when they reached the kitchen, grabbing a half-empty bottle of Hennessy from the marble counter. He grabbed a red cup, pouring himself a drink that made Lexi grimace. "I can't believe you like that stuff." Fez grinned as he set the bottle back onto the counter, turning back towards Lexi. He took a sip that looked almost defiant. "You're just a lightweight, Lex. Forreal."  "I am not a fucking lightweight!"  "Aight, whatever. Just don't be coming crying back to me when yo head spinning from two glasses of wine or whatever." There was a tender tone to Fez's words, a grin still tugging at his lips. He leaned in closer, his hand finding its way to Lexi's waist with a practised ease. His touch was firm on her as he pulled her closer, pressing a lingering kiss on Lexi's red lips. She giggled against his mouth, shaking her head. For a moment it almost felt like the world was slightly slower, slightly quieter. Like there was no one else as them and their corny moment, Fez's hand on Lexi's waist and Lexi's lips soft on his. Fezco's mouth tasted like brandy, his tongue almost stinging Lexi's own when their kiss deepened for a brief, stolen moment— "Get a fuckin' room," a familiar voice called out, snapping Fezco out of his own thoughts. He pulled away slightly, his hand still gripping Lexi's waist like he was afraid she'd vaporize in a second or two. His eyes were curious when his gaze moved from Lexi to someone standing behind her. "The fuck you doin' here?" If someone did not know Fez well enough, they might have mistaken his voice as hostile; it was anything but. A smile twitched at the corners of his mouth as he gently let go of Lexi, moving slightly past her to greet some guy she had never seen: he had dark brown eyes and visible tattoos peeking from under his sleeves, splattering his light skin with color.  A huge grin was pulling his unfamiliar face upwards, making his warm eyes squint. Fezco grabbed the guy's hand and the two of them bumped their chests together, slapping each others backs in that one, oddly familiar way that Lexi had often seen guys do instead of hugging. She followed the gesture with contained curiosity, smiling politely as she did. There were some more flabbergasted greetings exchanged, some crude language and bursts of laughter as Fezco and the other man pulled apart ever so slightly, still holding on to each other's hand like long lost brothers.  "Lexi, this is
Jackson," Fezco introduced eventually, turning his attention back to her.  "He used to live in town when we was kids." Lexi nodded,  a polite smile lighting up her features. "Hi, I'm Lexi." "Jackson," the guy repeated his own name, eyeing her and Fezco with evident curiosity in his brown eyes. His gaze shifted from Lexi to Fezco yet again, clearly trying to piece together the scene he had witnessed just a few minutes before. He looked at the girl from her head to her toes, pondering on his own words for a few, extended seconds. "So this the one you been hittin' lately?" There was something utterly crude about the way the words slipped off Jackson's lips, making Lexi nearly flinch as she felt her own mouth opening in utter confusion, her eyes narrowing slightly. Gross. Gross. Gross. Heavy silence set between the three of them, the music suddenly feeling all the more louder in Lexi's ears. She could feel the tension rising between the two men as they stared at each other, a piercing look making Fezco's eyes look that much more colder as he cleared his throat, throwing an almost apologetic look back at Lexi. There was something in his posture that stiffened, his entire body suddenly seeming slightly rigid as he turned his attention back to Jackson, all the familiar warmth from his eyes gone. Whatever leniency Fez had had for Jackson due to their shared history - it was gone. All gone.  "Listen man," Fezco said suddenly, his words as sharp as knives. Lexi could see his grip tightening on Jackson's hand, his knuckles almost white as he yanked him closer, so close that their noses were almost touching. Fezco's eyes were flaming as he stared Jackson down, his fingers digging into his skin with little mercy. His voice was low and quiet when he spoke: "Don't be saying disrespectful shit like that about her, forreal. You know I ain't fuckin' playin' with you." Jackson didn't evade his gaze, his own eyes losing some of their warmth as his gaze jumped from Fezco to Lexi, pulling his head slightly back to get some distance between himself and Fez. There was something about his body language that told Lexi that he was intimidated, swallowing almost comically heavy as he turned his attention back to Fezco, who was still staring him down. Fingers digging into Jackson's skin, holding him in place. "Aight, cool, cool. I was playin', man." "Don't be makin' shit weird like that, forreal." Fezco's voice seemed slightly lighter as he let go of the man, putting some distance between the two of them. His arm made its way around Lexi's waist again, pulling her close. "We good?" "We good, yeah," Jackson answered, his eyes grazing over the spot on his hand where Fezco's handprint was still imprinted on. "Y'all have a good night." And with that, he was gone, slipping into the crowd like a scared kid looking for his mother. Lexi exhaled heavily, shuddering slightly. "Gross." Fezco chuckled, grabbing his drink from the counter. He pressed a kiss into her hair. "Don't worry 'bout it, Lex."

Ghostly Mystery Tour
For Phic Fight 2021! dey’s lovely prompt c:
On Ao3
Maddie and Jack had fully prepared for their adventure into the Ghost Zone—or so they thought. The fuel on Specter Speeder had fizzled out about a mile in. They're stuck. At least, until Phantom comes by, offering help.
“I just don’t understand it Maddie, I swear I charged it just this morning!” Jack’s voice managed to be louder than his frantic jabbing at the fuel gauge in the enclosed space, the sickly green glow outside making him look ill instead of agitated.
“I’m sure you did honey, but we need to think of a plan.” Maddie was already trying to think of what they could use. They weren’t too far away from the portal home, with how quickly the Speeder ran out of power. They had plenty of gear and weaponry packed in for their research trip, but the Specter Speeder wasn’t powered with something they could just toss in a gas can and bring along. “Maybe we can hook some of the ropes to the floating land masses and tow it?”
“Oh! Great idea!” Jack brightened, shoving the previous problem aside, hands now occupied with measuring the distance of the nearby rocks. “The sooner we get moving, the sooner we can get back to work!”
The problem about how safe it actually was to breathe in the air when in the realm of the dead had been accounted for, but if they had to waste the air tanks just to get back- well they wouldn’t get to have nearly the amount of time to actually explore on foot, let alone gathering samples. They could learn so much about the ectoplasmic terrors from the world they clawed out of, weaknesses they didn’t need to fear on Earth even! So to have their expedition, a trip that had been months in the making derailed like this in mere moments hurt. At least Jack could keep his eyes forward, his positive attitude the only thing keeping her from screaming from the absolute unfairness of it all. “Just run the best options past me before you open the hatch, okay darling?”
“You betcha!”
She was still going to enable the Fenton Child Safety Lock as a precaution, he could get a little over eager when he saw an opportunity. It was just a matter of what tools could be repurposed into a makeshift claw or skewer to actually keep hold of the rocks. What would be the smallest loss?
The sound of something hitting the roof of the speeder halted her thoughts, turning to look out of the windows, drawing up her hood in case they’d be fighting so soon. Even Jack had stopped with his mental calculations, pulling a weapon from under the seat. “Company already? Guess we’ll show em what for, eh honey?”
“Well it is the Ghost Zone, they’re probably braver here. Not that it’ll be any problem.” A little boasting could help keep morale up, even if the situation was less than ideal. Stranded with a ghost already trying to take advantage, typical.
“Well one little zap with this baby and it’ll scoot right on back!”
If the ghost could hear them, maybe it would be frightened off just by their voices. Whatever had hit them hadn’t shown itself near the window, or hit their vehicle again. It didn’t feel right. There might be no evidence for whatever it was lurking around, but sometimes you had to follow your intuition. Jack was inquisitive, but didn’t ask out loud as his wife stood to knock the ceiling herself.
“Sooo are we doing knock knock jokes, or do you need a tow?”
She should have known. Of all the ghosts, it would have to be the one that always managed to get her hackles up, pretending to be helpful so people trusted him. A ghost that even tried to have a human name to fit in, not that she’d ever call this thing ‘Danny’. It was an insult to her baby boy, quite frankly. “What are you up to now?”
“Asking you if you need this thing moved. Duh,” the ghost snorted, the metal clanking as he knocked it again. “Talking at you from the roof feels dumb, you gonna shoot if I go to the front?”
“Depends on what you do, ghost scum!” Jack had looked pensive for a moment, but spoke up quickly on spotting Maddie reaching for a notebook. He just had to give her time to think it over, and he was great at distractions.
“Is scum what you call all people who help you out, or am I just your favourite?” A white haired head appeared at the top of their window, looking down with an amused smirk at the pair. Still playing innocent when they were at a disadvantage.
“You’re a ghost ‘claiming’ to want to help.”
That earned a frown, though the ghost stopped half hiding to float in front of their stranded speeder. “Riiiight. Put it that way, whatever,” he paused, as if studying their faces. His green eyes lingered on the weapon, notably so even as he went back to jabbering. “I’ve got some stuff to do, but I can drag the s-that thing back to the portal. So?”
The hunters shared a glance, unsure how to handle it. Phantom liked to claim he liked humans and protecting them, but he was a ghost. There had to be something he wanted out of them in return. Or might get violent if refused in the wrong way. At least he shouldn’t be able to see the quickly scrawled message to Jack. ‘You play the doubtful one, I’ll pretend to trust him- it’ll underestimate us’
“As if, spooky! Jack Fenton doesn’t need any ghost’s help!”
The ghost bought the open hostility without a second thought, eyes rolling to a sky that wasn’t here. “Really? I heard tow trucks were expensive out of state! Can’t imagine the out of dimension costs.”
It was going to be difficult to stay civil when it would be so much easier to just demand the ghost stop playing around. “We’re listening. So what do you want?”
“Awwww Mads, we don’t need this punk’s help! He doesn’t even have toes!”
The passion Jack had put into his moping managed to baffle the ghost. “Wait, what? Of course I do! No, stop, why does that matter? I know tows and toes are different things! I’m not that bad of a student, sheesh.” He seemed quite thrown, which was good. If the ghost forgot what the plan had been he might just get lost.
“Yeah, and you don’t have either Phantom!” Her husband managed to keep from laughing, but the shake in his shoulders showed it was a near thing.
Phantom glanced down at the black wispy tail that made up his legs, muttering something. “Well okay I don’t right now, but I normally do!”
It was a bit fascinating that Jack had distracted the ghost from his goal so completely. They’d have to think about an invention that could replicate the effect. “Can we focus please? I already said I’d listen to what you wanted.”
“Oh! Right, sorry,” he coughed, a strangely human expression of embarrassment. “I don’t actually need anything? I just have some stuff to do so you’d need to wait a bit.”
Oh right. Sure, the most dangerous ghost in town wanted to help the ghost hunters that wanted to destroy him ‘just because’. Just wait here while he goes to get some friends to attack them! Honestly, did ghosts think they were stupid? “Then why not tell us when you’re done? We’re not moving very quickly.”
“Cus he wants to make us think we’re safe before WHAM! Outnumbered by cowardly ghosts!” Jack expressed her true feelings effortlessly. “Not that it’d help em!”
“No way, you think I’d leave you guys here where anyone can try something?” The ghost still seemed confused, eyebrows raised and arms crossed. “You guys are here to study or whatever anyway, right? So you can look around while I get my errands done. And you know, you don’t get attacked. Most of the little guys leave me alone.”
As if that was a surprise! A ghost of Phantom’s strength could destroy smaller and weaker entities without effort. Perhaps it was a subtle threat slipping through his mask of ‘helpful child’. The idea of going deeper into the Ghost Zone, completely at his mercy was...well absolutely idiotic. Even if they could probably overcome him...being able to still get some studies done would make it not a complete waste of a trip. “So you think it’s likely we’ll be attacked here, so close to the portal?”
“Yeah, by him!” Jack looked tempted to grab his weapon, but refrained. “So what if we say no, huh?”
“Then I guess you can float here? Up to you, I guess.”
It was strange, to see the cocky ghost a bit hesitant. Even if there was an obvious threat he wasn’t mentioning. “Well if you could pull the Speeder, you could take it even if we don’t want you to.”
“I think that’s called kidnapping.” Phantom’s cocky smirk returned “Which is weird, you’re not kids! Adultnapping? Nah, that sounds dumb.”
“Ah cut the innocent act, we’re not falling for it!”
“Hey, I said it’s up to you! Either you agree to come along and I get you back home, or I just leave you guys to do whatever you plan to do. Even if yes, I could totally just drag the ship anyway. I’m not, because I’m trying to help, remember?” A hint of frustration slid past the confidence at ‘remember’, but the ghost folding his arms behind his head as if kicking back to relax did defang most of the threat. “I don’t have all day here.”
“We don’t have all day either Phantom. We have family to get back to, and no idea how long you plan to be ‘on errands’.” Maddie pointed out, still unsure what they should do. Trusting him was stupid, but he had showed his hand. Refusal might be met with the same result anyway, but ‘agreeing’ might trick the ghost into thinking they fell for his ‘trustworthy’ act.
“Like an hour or two? Not too long.”
“Well I’d use my Fenton Stopwatch! So don’t think you can pretend it’s a shorter time than it is, ghost!”
“Yeah yeah, you do that D-Jack,” he stumbled over the ghost hunter’s name, but otherwise didn’t move from relaxing. “It’s not gonna kill you to trust me for a bit.”
Even though it very much could kill them. He really was a smug bit of ectoplasm, thinking he blended in with humans well enough to be considered one. “So only a few hours, and you won’t stop us from researching or taking samples? Or lead us to a trap?”
“If I wanted people to get threatened by ghosts, I could just take some days off. No trouble, cross my heart. I’d swear to die but I got the jump on that bit,” he snorted at his own joke, but otherwise left the family to consider.
It was just safer to say ‘yes’ so the ghost thought they were fools. It had nothing to do with wanting to salvage something out of this disaster of an expedition. “Yes. We’ll accept your help, this time.”
“And you aren’t getting any thanks until we’re home, got it?” Good, ghost hunter, bad ghost hunter. An easy enough trick. Even if she wished Jack was the ‘trusting’ one. Yelling would feel nice.
“Yeeeah, kinda expected that too. Rude.” The ghost only shrugged before flying up and out of sight. She half expected to hear the ghost grab the Speeder, but they only really noticed when they started moving. Moving very, very quickly.
She couldn’t help it, her curiosity tamped down some of the fear she should be feeling, pointing out interesting landmasses as they passed, Jack just as enthusiastic to discuss what caused them, if the ghost built them or they were simply generated when a ghost squirmed into existence. A great castle that seemed familiar, an island with some sort of skull as a decoration and thousands of doors. Most ghosts they only could get sparing glimpses at, even when carrying an entire vehicle the ghost boy was fast. Ridiculously so. She thought it was his small figure that contributed to how quickly the pest could move- how the ghost could just vanish out of range in moments. That most of the power behind his physical attacks came from the speed they were delivered with instead of raw strength. Clearly that was an incorrect hypothesis, moving this quickly and carrying so much extra weight without any real difficulty. They slowed near what seemed to be another castle, though it was much less foreboding looking then the other one.
That sinking dread returned after they landed. She had some landmarks, but this much distance would be a big ask to get back. That, and this castle seemed more...occupied, judging by some humanoid ghosts loitering near the gates. One even waved. To them, or the ghost carrying them?
“Okayyy so. Ground rules? Don’t shoot anyone. None of these guys even go through the portal, they’re not the fighting type. Other than that? Have fun, I guess?” He’d stopped floating, standing on the ground beside their stalled craft. He didn’t look as if preparing to fight, which is what she’d assumed the ghost meant by ‘errands’. So what was he up to?
“We won’t do anything if they don’t.” A lie, honestly, but the ghost nodded.
“Wait, what’s that stuff for?” White gloves pointed at the masks the ghost hunters were pulling from under the seats. “Like you can hear me, there’s air out here.”
“It might be safe for ghosts, but we aren’t ghosts.”
Phantom opened his mouth as if to protest before shutting it with a frown. Strange, it was hard to get him to shut up most of the time.
“Nice try, we’re not gonna choke on ghost air today, Phantom!” Jack chuckled, adjusting his mask before popping open the hatch.
“I wasn’t expecting you to- oh whatever. Just don’t embarrass me,” he sounded like a sulking kid, only glancing at them for a moment before kicking off the ground to fly closer to the castle. Off to fight whoever ‘owned’ this area, perhaps?
“Well look at that! Regular plants!” Jack shook her from her pondering, crouched over what looked like a tended to flower bed near the walls. “Well, ghost plants that aren’t trying to attack. Think we should sketch em for the kids?”
“Well Jazz has been more interested in ghosts lately, I suppose.” It was interesting, but she was more curious about the ghost meandering past the walls. They seemed docile, almost like people just walking and apparently talking with one another. Not attempting to fight for territory or resources. Perhaps they were just repeating the memories of their lives over and over? Yet none of them had reacted badly to Phantom zipping past either. A different breed of ghost, perhaps? Or ghosts often had ‘kings’ that kept the lesser ones from squabbling. The large brute of a ghost that stole the town had claimed to be a king of sorts, and this was another castle...but she didn’t want to test anything by getting their attention. They might only act savagely towards humans, being jealous of those still alive after all.
“Yeah, she has! Danno might not like em, but that goth chick he’s eyeing might like em too!” He was already sketching away, quickly getting the basics. He’d fill in the details from memory back home. “You want to try seeing if those ones talk? Not sure how the ghost kid thinks we could embarrass him, ha!”
“Oh he was probably just trying to insult us. He likes to pretend to be a teenager,” she waved that question away, double checking her weapon was easy to reach in case of an emergency. No reason to make their predicament worse by being unprepared. While still considering to go near those ghosts instead of safely observing from a distance. Jack’s enthusiasm was too infectious, really, but that’s how they made so many discoveries!
The ghosts didn’t object to her moving closer, but she kept off the busier paths to be safe. So many stalls of what seemed to be goods, clothing and paintings, rugs and nick knacks. Well, the ghosts didn’t need anything to live, so it would make sense for them to prioritize other items first, but the art was strange. What did the dead know of creativity? Were these all recreations of something found in life? No, some of the paintings had the green skies of the Ghost Zone, implying at least some ‘new’ thought. They were strange, very unlike the wild animals that often attacked the town, or the showy inhuman mimics that tried to claim world domination. They just looked like greener, more transparent people. Barely any of them even floated much. They’d need new categories, they broke too many rules that stayed true on Earth.
“Oh that’s a lovely shade of blue! I wish I could make something like it.” The voice echoed, but it wasn’t growling or mocking. In fact, the ghost woman who had paused beside the hunter was smiling warmly, despite the dead red eyes. “Are you just visiting for a bit?”
“We’re mostly stuck going wherever the ghost boy is taking us, our ship broke down,” Maddie struggled not to frown, her natural inclination to get away from the still potentially dangerous ghost strong with so many fights. She could tell it the truth, in a sense. Phantom was far more likely to be dangerous then this waif of a woman. How she could move in so many ruffles was baffling.
“Oh dear! Well if he’s any trouble you can let Dorthea know, she’s a caring ruler. A human helped her get her rightful throne back, so I’m sure she’d be happy to help!” The ghost tittered a little, as if expecting that to be obvious.
So the ghost did know she was human? Far more alarming was the idea some other human had been dragged this far from home, possibly trapped. Maybe this would turn into a rescue mission. Unless it was too late for them, a distinct possibility. “Oh really? How did that happen?”
“Oh I don’t really know the details, but it was a human that inspired our good Queen that she didn’t need to fear that tyrant and she could fight back. I wish I’d seen it!”
It was disquieting how human the ghost sounded, a friendly sort of gossip. If only she had a way to record it. “The human got back home after helping, right?”
“Well I assume so, she had no intentions of staying here very long, that’s for sure!” She laughed easily, apparently blind to Maddie’s confusion and apprehension, or just unable to see it past the mask and goggles. “I’m fairly sure Sir Phantom took her back, you could ask him.”
Sir? That town terrorizing scoundrel was respected around here? And had been taking humans out of the ghost zone? Probably because he made whoever it was get here in the first place, just to rescue them. Was that why he was here? To stage some new act with this ghost queen? “Right, I might do that.” Would she? This morning she hadn’t expected to talk to ghosts, let alone multiple.
“Oh! If you see any of those angry blobs you can just run back towards the guards and they’ll deal with it. It’s their job, and they’re quite good at it. I actually considered doing that job for a bit, but I like looking after the plants more. Maybe I’ll switch in a decade or two!” The ghost kept talking, apparently taking Maddie’s lack of further questions as permission to keep chattering.
“Can’t you deal with them yourself?” Attacking ghost blobs was something she knew about, and if this ghost was strong enough to mimic humans, shouldn’t it be able to deal with the much less sophisticated tactics of blobs?
“Me? Oh no, I’m not not trained. Do you still have lions on the other side? It would be like trying to fight one of those with a stick!” She laughed, but not unkindly.
“You’re both ghosts though, aren’t you?” Perhaps they differentiated themselves by name in the Ghost Zone? It would lend some evidence to the ‘different breeds’ of ghost hypothesis she was rapidly stringing together.
She tapped at her chin for a moment at the question. “I suppose we are, but they’re more like animals. They might have always been animals, or never alive at all! It’s perfectly safe here though, they usually fight more among themselves.”
Well that was fascinating. Some ghosts didn’t instinctively know how to fight and had to be taught? Yet didn’t consider themselves completely separated from the more animalistic ectoplasmic terrors. Perhaps the more ‘domestic’ setting here made the ghosts less feral and more reliant on their previous memories. Well, the ghost could be lying, but she couldn’t see the benefit she’d gain from deception here. “So you’re kind of stuck here then? We saw a lot of those outside of this place.”
“No no, we’ve got safer ways to travel than just flying around! Not all of us are that brave, dear. Though I don’t think I’d want to stay somewhere else very long anyway. Here it’s safe, all my friends are here and we have one of the largest markets in the whole Ghost Zone. Other ghosts come to us!” There was a hint of pride as she spoke about her ‘home’, gesturing over to some of the stalls Maddie hadn't had time to look at before getting interrupted. “I was really hoping to get something from the seven armed bloke over there, but he’s not very interested in my clothing. Maybe next time.”
Said ‘bloke’ had far too many eyes to go with the arms, and a collection of honestly terrifying little statues with strange designs that made her head hurt if she looked at it too long. A clear outsider to the more human ones, but not causing a stir. So much for constantly fighting out groups, but they barely had anything in common either! Not to mention engaging in some kind of simplistic trading. “So this happens often?”
“Pretty much. It’s fun to make new things, but you get bored of just your own stuff after a few centuries you know? So we swap and find new things.”
Well of course, it’s not like the ghosts needed to trade for something vital to existence. Swapping ‘things’ made more sense in that context. So why weren’t any trying to trade strength or favours? Or simply taking what they wanted? Was it related to having a queen? She had so many questions that knowing what ones needed to be asked was next to impossible. “I suppose you would. How can you tell if a ghost that comes is peaceful?”
“Asking!” She laughed again, apparently finding the question funny. So they didn’t deal with constant attacks from spectres like Phantom trying to ‘take over?’ Why?
“Oh geeze, I’m so sorry if she said anything about trying to-” Phantom’s voice interrupted her thoughts, the ghost suddenly floating beside the other ghost and sputtering.
“Sorry? She’s been perfectly lovely! Haven’t you- oh I’m so rude, I didn’t even get your name!” the ghost tisked at herself, once again strangely apologetic.
“Wait, she has?” His doubtful tone made the ghost hunter scowl. As if he had any room to judge them.
“We’re scientists, not uncontrollable monsters.” Like him. She was fairly sure he caught the implication when the boy muttered something she couldn’t hear.
“Cool. Anyway, got another stop, then I’ll get you two back home.” He still hovered, glancing between the two of them a few times. “Oh. Maddie, that’s her name.”
“Lovely speaking with you Maddie! Had a good trip back, I’m Guenivier if you’re ever in the area again,” she smiled and gave another wave before somehow drifting back into the crowd without displacing even a bit of that dress.
“Who said you can give out my name?” Maddie hissed, once certain the other ghost was out of earshot.
He leaned back on teenager mannerisms, scoffing and heading away. “Because she wanted to know and thinks you aren’t a total ghost hater? It’s not gonna hurt anything.”
“How can I know you don’t have a way to locate people by name?”
He was rolling his eyes again as if she was being ridiculous. “You live in a house with a giant glowing sign. Not exactly subtle.”
“That isn’t in the ghost zone.”
“It’s attached to the ghost zone, it totally counts.”
It really was like arguing with a teenager when he bantered on like this. “Just don’t do it again.”
“Yes ma’am. Sheesh.” He hopped on top of the speeder, kicking his heels against the side. “Hey Jack, you coming?”
“Coming!” he bellowed back, jogging over from the patch of plants she’d left him at. However, he wasn’t just carrying his notebook, but a folded glowing bit of cloth. Some sort of tapestry judging by all the stitching? “Just wanted to get a few more lines done-” he broke off after spotting his wife, apparently reminded that he shouldn’t be so chummy with the ghost. “I mean I leave when I want to, you can’t boss Fentons around!”
“Oh come onnn, can you pretend you don’t hate me for like five minutes? I’m not even doing anything!” Phantom complained, flopping backwards onto the Speeder. “You were totally having a good time”.
“How did you get that, dear?” Maddie chose to ignore their sulking captor and instead look at what Jack managed to gather besides sketches.
“Oh, one of the ghosties liked my pictures and asked to trade for one! So I gave em a page for this! We can study how they made it back home, neat huh?”
Apparently he hadn’t been too worried about it being a trap, but a picture he’d just sketched wasn’t a big ask for something that could teach them a lot about the ghosts in here, so it was a good trade nonetheless. “You did great sweetie. Just make sure to store it safely, just in case.”
“Already on it sweet cheeks!” He was indeed, already pulling out a large sample bag to store their find before opening the hatch again.
“Ew. I changed my mind, go back to threatening me. Sappy is worse.”
Well, at least the ghost regretted his actions a bit. He’d be more sorry if he tried anything, but this did just seem to be something to sooth that hero complex it had. So far, anyway. She was tempted to ask the ghost what it had been up to at the castle, but it didn’t really matter. He’d just lie anyway, he clearly wasn’t the same sort of ghost as the weaker ones back there.
“Ha, he crumples in the face of our love Madds!” Jack laughed, hugging his wife and they got comfortable back in the speeder. “You think he’d take us back home if I said how much I love ya?”
“I so don’t need to hear this.” He was muffled, apparently still flopped on the speeder. He didn’t add anything before the Speeder lifted from the ground and resumed speeding through the strange green expanse.
“Clearly he buys his own teenager delusion.” Maddie mused, content to rest against Jack and look through his sketches. “Did they seem strangely lifelike to you too?”
“Oh sure! They just talked and didn’t even seem interested in going to the human world! Even though one was very jealous of how bright my jumpsuit is.” He leaned a bit to flick a few pages forward. “I sketched a couple and got their names, so we can see if we can look em up. See if they’re similar to their old selves according to history and all.”
“That’s a good idea. I didn’t get a complete name, but apparently they have jobs? Not like the wilder ghosts, and they do have a queen…” she paused, remembering the ‘human’ Phantom apparently ‘helped home. “Hey! You did help someone home from the ghost zone before, did you?”
“Huh? Oh! Yeah, she’s back safe. Wasn’t even a whole day.” He sounded distracted, or at least surprised by the question.
It could be a valuable lead. That, and the human might need help after such an experience. Who knew how ecto contaminated they might be! “Who was it?”
“How should I know? Just because I’m in town a lot doesn’t mean I know everyone’s name.”
She frowned, glancing at Jack who only shrugged. So he hadn’t heard that story, only her. “You know ours.”
“Because you shout them at me and shoot at me a lot? Pretty easy to remember!”
“Ghost kid’s got a point.” Jack admitted, patting her on the shoulder. “We’ll just find who it is ourselves! Just an extra project.”
“What, and just make their life weird again by bringing up ghost stuff? Leave em alone.”
Well now they absolutely had to look into it, if Phantom wasn’t keen on the idea. Better to let him think they agreed though. “True, it could just lead you back to them.”
“Hey! This is all you, not me!”
Jack chuckled. “You’re really good at riling him up. Almost sounds like our Danny like that, getting all touchy about fun family activities!”
“Well he probably copies behaviour from local teenagers,” she didn't like that comparison though. Their children were nothing like life destroying ghosts. It was better to turn her attention to the passing green and how the amount of doors seemed to dwindle as masses of ice started to become the most prominent detail. That made more sense, actually. Phantom had started using ice in addition to ectoblasts, if he came from somewhere with this sort of climate it seemed less out of place with his other abilities. Even if he was otherwise ill suited to snow and ice with how he insisted on looking like a kid.
The next stop felt more like a mistake, with only hills of untouched white powder and ice to see, but the crunch of snow below confirmed they were no longer moving. Good thing they came prepared with heated coats!
“Not a whole lot around here! If it wasn’t for all the green we could pretend we were in Alaska.” Jack chattered as he shrugged a coat on, still apparently too excited to look around to keep his suspicion up. “They don’t all like castles, or maybe it’s a hidden one!”
He better not be thinking Santa had an ice castle. That was probably what he was thinking of, but she didn’t really want to bring up their annual argument at the moment. He could be wrong today, there were more important things to do. “You do realize it’s a frozen wasteland you’ve stranded us on?”
“It’s not that cold.” Phantom objected, circling the Speeder idly.
“Easy for a ghost to say, you’re always cold ghost kid!”
He stopped at that, glancing back at Jack. “It's not that bad, is it?”
“Only because we brought warm clothing. Jumpsuits aren’t enough for the living.” Maddie huffed, looking at the snowfields to find anything worth looking at. The structures of ice were somewhat interesting, but not inherently ghostly.
“Well you guys can stay here, I guess.” The ghost bit at his lip, playing up the concern now that they pointed out a frozen wasteland was cold. Honestly, how did anyone fall for Phantom’s act if he made mistakes like this? “I don’t think Frostbite’s people come out this far…”
“Oh, are they dangerous? We can take any of your little ghostly pals!”
Phantom looked as if Jack suggested exploding a building. “No! Don’t fight any of them! They just look scary, okay? Just ignore them, if any show up.” He didn’t wait for a response before flying off this time, apparently in much more of a hurry this time.
“Sounds like he’s worried about what we can do to his little pals, huh?” Jack elbowed his wife with a grin. “Well, maybe we can find something weird about the ice here!”
It was better to try getting some of the ghost ice instead of doing nothing, though she doubted it would be very different from regular ice, beyond the ectocontamination. Now what would a ghost think is ‘scary looking’? He hadn’t given such a warning when close to all of the other ghosts, after all. It was a bit of a mystery, and none of the ice here had any identifying marks or hints of another odd little ghost ‘civilization’. ‘Frostbite’ wasn’t much of a name either, perhaps they were more like the wild sort that came to Amity?
“Oh hoh! Look at this!” Jack yelled out, pointing to something below him as he waved her over.
A large, clawed footprint left in the snow, and fairly deep. So something monstrous after all, as expected. “Maybe we can get a cast of it?” They had supplies for it, but she wasn’t certain if it would work in the ice correctly. The tracks didn’t go for long, but following them wasn’t a very tantalizing idea. Better to keep a distance and be well armed if they wanted to tangle with whatever left this. It wasn’t as distracting as the previous stop, but the sound of crunches increasing in volume had the couple back on edge and wary.
“Seriously, we should just go-”
It sounded like the ghost boy was near wherever the crunches were coming from, which didn’t improve her mood one iota.
“Nonsense! I have been asking to meet them for how long?” A deep, growling and carrying voice came in response as Maddie readied a weapon.
“Yeah, that’s the problem. You don’t want to, trust me.”
“Seems he doesn’t have a very high opinion of ghost hunters, eh Mads?” Jack was less noticeably readied, still half crouched near the footprint, but his hand hovered where a weapon was concealed. She focused on her breathing as the sound grew louder, eyes narrowed as she spotted a large figure cresting the nearby hill. With the little white haired ghost boy completely at ease near it. Nothing like his regular behaviour, let alone the talking. Why would this huge beast know of them?
“What did I say about not shooting people?” Phantom actually seemed to blush on seeing her holding the weapon, smacking his face. “Okay, you saw them, bye now!”
The large furred creature ignored how the smaller ghost pushed at their shoulder, instead waving with a horrific ice claw, bones gleaming from within as it seemed to rip at the very air. “Well our first meeting was hardly perfect either, I can manage.”
“Yeah but I can’t just pull a ‘won’t shoot a big yeti’ icicle out of their jumpsuits!”
For a human loving ghost, Phantom was certainly very concerned about this giant horned monster being harmed by ‘mere humans’. More proof of his act, at least. Though the large creature did have a cloak of some sort and clothing. He spoke well, if you ignored the fanged mouth and growls. A strange contradiction of appearance and intent. That wasn’t a normal thing for ghosts either, you could gather a decent amount about one by how they looked. So why was this one chatting and apparently interested in seeing two humans? “So, you’re the ‘Frostbite’ he mentioned?” She hazarded a guess, but wasn’t going to put the gun away.
It showed its fangs, maw wide and unnerving. “Yes, I am! It is an honour to meet you” The furry head bowed slightly, as if trying a sort of nod of respect. “Your work assisted the Great One in vanquishing Pariah Dark, we all owe you a debt of gratitude.”
“Please don’t call me that. Especially in front of them!” the green eyed ghost practically squawked, somehow flushing even harder when he didn’t even have blood.
Maddie’s mind almost flipped over from the sheer confusion of what this terrifying ghost said. They had ‘helped’ vanquish something? More likely, Phantom had stolen something. So why did this ghost still give them credit? That wasn’t even starting to touch why the ghost boy would be considered great in any aspect. “Assisted him? Do you mean with that ghost who took our town into the Ghost Zone?” She wasn’t sure if that was what the ‘king’ ghost was called, but it made more sense than anything else she could think of.
“Indeed. The King of All Ghosts would have sent the infinite realms into chaos and conflict. Of course we are grateful for your help in preventing that.”
“That’s when you stole the Ecto Skeleton!” Jack spoke up, no longer tense. “You never brought it back.”
“That’s not my fault, that thing almost wasted me! It was gone once I woke up!” The boy objected, but seemed to settle down when the larger ghost ruffled his hair. “I wanted to bring it back.”
“I’m sure now they understand how vitally important that technology was, for your world and ours.” The ghost’s yellow eyes watched them expectantly, the unnerving void of pointed daggers thankfully closed now.
“Well it did get Amity back where it belonged.” Losing the Ecto Skeleton had been a blow, but an acceptable one to get back to normal. The fact that more ghosts seemed to know and care about their part of it was somewhat unnerving. She very much doubted Phantom just ‘lost’ it either. Jack suffered from the demands of the suit, but the ghost was just ectoplasm and electricity. Quite unlikely he could be drained that much, it wasn’t meant for ghosts to use in the first place.
“Your world? Doesn’t the kid live here?” Jack asked, making his wife blink. She hadn’t noticed that odd phrasing.
“No, no. The Great One prefers the human world and his friends. How are they doing?”
He froze up, eyes flicking to the hunters and back to the yeti. “Fine. They’re great.” He darted closer to the two hunters, gesturing at them to move. “Okay let’s go.”
How much interacting was this ghost doing with humans to have ‘friends’ it told other ghosts about? They could be in danger, or used as targets! “No no, we’d love to hear about your friends.”
“Nope, you don’t, gotta get home right? Big hurry, don’t trust me, remember?” He was practically pleading with them.
Frostbite’s ears twitched as he tilted his head. “Don’t trust you? Surely they’re the ones who taught your friends how to drive that craft of yours?”
Phantom had the gall to turn invisible.
“We were unaware anyone other than us was using it, actually.” Maddie didn’t bother to keep the frost from her voice.
“Ah, well at least the good news is I already knew how to make a replacement battery for it when the Great One came asking for help.” His tail twitched, as one of the great claws scratched at his furry chest. “It should be good as new once you can install it.”
So not only was this ghost stealing technology and bringing humans to the ghost zone, it was teaching other ghosts how it worked! The second that ghost was in their grasp, he’d have some serious answering to do. “Do all of you call him that?” It was the only question she could ask without wishing to spit acid, quite frankly.
“All of the Far Frozen recognize him as such, but not all ghosts are the same. He should be proud of the title, a savour of two worlds.”
“Frostbite I’m begging you, stop! It’s embarrassing!” The ghost dropped his invisibility, still looking more like a flustered kid instead of the heroics seeking fame junkie he was.
“Well if it helps your relationship with these ghost hunters, I think it is important that they know.”
“Yeah no. Let’s not.”
It felt like there was something the two ghosts weren’t saying. That, and the fact Phantom didn’t seem to like being hailed as a hero here in the Ghost Zone didn’t make sense. Why all the grandstanding in Amity then?
“Well we’ll be glad for the lift home. You shouldn’t steal from us, kid.” Jack tried a stern approach, and the ghost actually flinched from the rebuke.
“You’re not the only ones who want to map this place out, that’s all,” he didn’t really seem to be answering them, more talking to himself before launching himself at the Speeder again. “You can shoot at me about it back home or whatever.”
“Travel safely! Do try and explore your other half more often, Great one. You’re always welcome here.” His great furry head watched them all easily, seeking out the ghost hunters eyes as well. "I understand you are less interested, but you are welcome to see the realities of my home as well. It may surprise you, in a good way."
She desperately wanted to ask what that monster of a ghost meant by that, but managed to hold her tongue. If all the ghosts here saw Phantom as some sort of godlike hero, chewing him out here wasn’t safe. Jack’s small nod of agreement and warm hug helped, but it couldn’t stop her mind churning. They’d seen and hurt so much, and none of it made any sense! This Frostbite just threw in several more wrenches in the works with only a few sentences, but with how agitated Phantom was getting now wasn’t the time to push their luck. Perhaps when the shoe was on the other foot, and the boy needed their assistance.
He didn’t speak up or grumble this time as they left the frozen land behind. Though that might be them as well,m sitting close together and considering the notes and samples they had taken. That and the huge list of questions Jack had scrawled down in the margins of a sketch of Frostbite. How could a ghost like Phantom truly manage to stay in the human world most of the time? Did it have to do with this ‘other half’ that ghost had mentioned? Would knowing what it was reveal a weakness in the ghost? So many questions, but no answers. Why had Phantom even let them speak to any ghosts, considering how badly he’d reacted to some of the information given? He couldn’t genuinely be wanting to help.
The inviting glow of the portal appeared sooner than either of them could expect, the ghost dropping the ship on the lab floor with a loud clunk.
“See? Home. No ‘evil plan’” he floated into view, and she was fairly sure he only did so to make those air quotes with his hands.
“So you say, ghost kid. Don’t think we won’t be checking for tricks!”
“Yeah sure,” he shrugged, grinning after a moment. “Oh hey, by the way, you do know what the Speeder is powered with, right?”
Maddie didn’t actually know how to take that question. “Of course we do, we built it!”
“Uh huh.” His grin widened as he kicked back, legs vanishing into that strange tail. “All you had to do was take the cover off. It’s the Ghost Zone! There’s ectoplasm everywhere! I just had Frostbite make a backup.”
...Had they really- They had. They’d been dragged around by a ghost for no reason at all! “Why you little-”
He kept laughing before turning and getting out of the way. “Thanks for flying with Phantom Zone Tours! I’m out.” A jaunty wave and he was gone, leaving two baffled ghost hunters behind.
“I think some fudge is in order after that!”
She couldn’t say he was wrong. Maybe fudge could make sense of that whole affair. All that for a prank? It didn’t add up. They’d have a lot of work to do.

To preface, I’m not sure that Buddie was supposed to get as big as it did (but like, when you put two people with that much chemistry on screen, what did you expect to happen?). It’s very obvious, and it’s been heavily discussed, that Eddie was supposed to be a foil for Buck. Key word supposed to be.
Okay. So they get there eventually. But a lot of it still remains fanon. I could go on a long chronological rant of every event in order, but the gist of it is this: since S2 Eddie’s character development has inexplicably been tied to someone else at every step of the way. Here’s what I mean—
First it was Shannon. He moved here for Shannon, okay great. It’s a plot device; it makes total sense. Then, when he’s here, he gets tied to Buck, who helps him with all of his problems and asks for nothing in return.
Except if Eddie’s supposed to be Buck’s partner in every way that matters… then why is it always Buck helping Eddie out? I get that it’s in Buck’s nature to step over boundaries when he has people’s best interests at heart, but not once (in my memory) do we see Eddie do anything but rib Buck about Abby. When Buck was there for him about Shannon reappearance? When he listened and brought Eddie the god’s gift to earth that is Carla? You’re honestly going to tell me that Eddie, loyal to a fault, never reached out to see how Buck was feeling? Like you’re really gonna tell me that? Idk.
And then...what? No more character development for Eddie that season, I guess. This is off topic, but Shannon’s entire arc made me SO MAD only because of how chopped it was. That’s his wife. Who just divorced him. And then she immediately dies. That’s (forgive me 911 gods), that’s lazy writing really. You might say, well it came back to bite Eddie in season three—
But then he’s tied to Lena, or defending Bobby over Buck though it’s damn clear to Chim and Hen and Athena why Buck did it. He makes a comment: “Look, I know it sucks, but that's life, right? Whenever stuff didn't work out for me, my dad always told me to brush it off, keep moving forward.”
And Eddie’s fucking stupid when it comes to his own emotions, but he has them. He knows repression is bad. He’s not dumb. He’s what, in his 30s? He better damn well know that’s not how trauma works; he doesn’t treat his own kid like that (and he says as much in therapy later, so those feelings are there no matter how deep-rooted they are); he didn’t tell Shannon to get over it when her mother got sick and she had to take a break.
Continuing with the lawsuit arc, What I’ve yearned for—which, I don’t have a problem with Buck suing the city, I have a problem with how he did it and how everyone responded—is Eddie’s point of view. Both Buddie fights, in the grocery store and that one scene right before they make up, are from Buck’s perspective so obviously the viewer feels sympathetic for him. When Eddie asked if Buck knew how much Chris missed him, it’s said so spittingly that it almost seems disingenuous. We needed an Eddie’s POV without Buck to see how it affected him, and we didn’t get one. We never get anything from Eddie’s isolated perspective unless it’s fundamental.
So then he goes to therapy, except it’s tied to Maddie’s and Hen’s at the same time. Hen gets her retreat; Maddie goes back to where Doug tried to kill her; Eddie gets...the kitchen scene, which is great for Buddie, not so great for Eddie because dude, he needs therapy. Buck’s not a therapist. Buck can’t do what Frank did and he didn’t do what that lady from Hen’s retreat did. Once again, the writers created Eddie for Buck, for Chris, not to be Eddie Diaz, which really sucks.
At the beginning of this post, I wanted to say “let’s cast aside Buddie’s relationship for a moment and look into Eddie’s character development under an isolated lens”, except you literally can’t. Every step of the way Eddie is tied to someone else’s emotions; someone else’s actions. Even in Eddie Begins we’ve gotten Eddie growing into a good father, but we knew that. We could see that in 2x01. The most important thing in Eddie’s life is Christopher. That’s a fact. His parents tried to take him, super shitty, but once again didn’t do much for character development.. yet. Eddie was always going to protect Christopher, that’s not even in question.
(I’m not quite sure how to put Eddie Begins into words, but I did my best. Sorry if it’s not coherent.)
And then we get to S4.
Listen, about Ana, I can’t imagine Eddie going back and dating someone that he snapped at about the skateboard. I just can’t. It’s just so, so out of character. Not to mention Eddie telling Ana that Christopher would get over it and then leaving him to storm off to Buck. Now, I’m not saying that Buck doesn’t basically co-parent Chris at this point but it’s still...it leaves a bad taste in my mouth that the writers needed that conversation between Buck and Chris so badly that they framed Eddie as not noticing that Chris would leave the house; that he would use his phone to call an uber; that his son felt like he couldn’t talk to him after how much Eddie’s emphasized that he can.
My point is this: if you’re going to create a character and give them these stubborn, steadfast, brave and loyal traits, then at least have them stand by them. Eddie should, by this point, be his own character without him having to have drama with Buck or his son; yes he’s Buck’s partner, but he’s also his own person. They make every scene in which Eddie gets injured in the field simultaneously about Buck; where was Eddie’s perspective during the leg injury? During the blood clot? Hell, other than some eye-contact, we didn’t get much of Eddie’s immediate thought process about his son getting swept away in a tsunami.
Hopefully in s5 we see more of what I deem Eddie’s perspective. Also, these are all my opinions and I don’t mean to offend anyone or start drama! I love Eddie and Buck and Chris and Buddie but these are just my thoughts solely from an analytical perspective. Sorry it was so long!
Also, lol, my hottest hottest take is that it should’ve been Eddie and Chris in the tsunami, but that’s just something I’d have thought was cool. No relevance to plot.
tagging @podinaroot and @blutterlie from my post!

Background: Based on the synopsis and set images as well as my own delusional Buddie brain, here is my theory of Episode 4x14.
Episode 4x13 will end with a firefighter (from another house) getting shot by the sniper. The first half of episode 4x14 will involve a number of close calls with the guy, but then he zeros in on the 118 for reasons unknown.
Our favorite firefam are out doing a major rescue. Skyscraper on fire or something. Eddie and Buck are on the roof, securing an injured person into the basket. Bobby is on the ground acting as incident commander. Hen and Chim are attending to the injured on the ground and waiting on the basket to be lowered so they can take that person to the hospital. The sniper suddenly appears on a nearby rooftop. His scope zeros in on Buck’s chest (on the opposing rooftop). He lines up the shot and pulls the trigger. In slow motion, Eddie sees this just as it happens without Buck even realizing, he jumps in front of the bullet, taking it to the shoulder instead of to Buck’s chest. He collapses over top of the injured person in the basket. Buck’s eyes immediately jump to the sniper who start lining up another shot, but then Eddie moans and Buck stops caring. He immediately starts tending to Eddie instead.
“Buckley, Diaz, status report,” Bobby’s voice crackles over the comms.
Buck grabs at his radio. “Eddie’s been shot. Sniper. Roof across the street.”
The show refocuses to our friends on the ground. Chim and Hen are staring at Bobby as they all heard Buck’s call. Bobby looks up to the roof nearby and can’t see the sniper from the ground. Athena walks over. “What happened?”
“The sniper. That roof. Eddie’s down,” he says pointing.
Athena immediately starts ordering the LAPD into position while Bobby sends another crew up to Eddie and Buck on the roof. They secure Eddie into a basket and drop him (and Buck) down to Chim and Hen. The other injured person is passed down to the other crew. Buck helps Chim and Hen get Eddie into the back of the bus. He’s about to close the doors, reluctantly when Bobby’s hand lands on his shoulder. “Go. Let me know how he makes out,” is all he says before pushing Buck into the back of the ambulance with Chim and Eddie. He closes the doors and Hen flips the sirens on as she takes off toward the hospital.
When they arrive, Hen and Chim unload Eddie’s stretcher (he’s out cold now, losing blood; coded in the bus once, but hanging onto life by the skin of his teeth). They pass him off to the waiting ER team and Buck makes to go after them. The nurses, doctors, Chim, and Hen all stare at him, but he swallows. “Pull his chart. I’m Evan Buckley. I’m his emergency contact, power of attorney. I’m not leaving.” Chim and Hen exchange a look, clearly unaware of this until right now. The nurses and doctors shrug and nod as they rush Eddie toward the waiting OR.
The show goes back to show the sniper being taken into custody (in the back of Athena’s car) as Chim and Hen return to the scene. Bobby asks them where Buck is and how Eddie is. And Chim asks him, “Did you know Buck was Eddie’s POA?”
Bobby smiles a little and chuckles slightly. “Nah but doesn’t surprise me. Guess we’re two men down, huh?” Hen and Chim both just shrug and nod as they go back to tending the wounded on the ground.
Taylor shows up to cover the event, specifically the sniper being arrested. She spots the 118 and goes over after her cameras stop rolling. “Where’s Buck?”
 “Hospital with Eddie,” Chim says.
“Oh,” Taylor says. “Was he hurt, too?”
Chim shakes his head. “He’s Eddie’s POA.”
 “What?”
“Power of attorney? He gets to make medical decisions and stuff while Eddie’s out. He has to be there,” Chim explains. Taylor’s a little taken aback but doesn’t say anything.
The show goes back to the hospital. A doctor walks into the waiting room and says, “Mr. Buckley?” Buck’s head pops up from where he’s sitting, lost in his own anxiety over the situation. He stands up and walks over to the doctor who introduces himself. “Mr. Diaz is going to be okay. I just finished up. They’re just getting him cleaned up and moved to recovery. You’ll be able to see him once he’s awake.”
“He’ll be okay?” Buck confirms and the doctor nods.
“A nurse will come and get you once he’s awake.”
“Thank you,” Buck says faintly. The doctor nods again and disappears back through the doors as Buck bursts into relieved tears. He goes back to his seat and sends a few texts first (to Maddie, Chim, Hen, Bobby, and Athena) saying Eddie’s going to be okay and that surgery is over. Then he calls Carla.
“Buckaroo! What do I owe the pleasure?”
 “Carla, are you with Chris?”
“Yeah, what’s wrong?” she asks, clearly sensing the anxiety in Buck’s voice. “Is Eddie okay? What happened?”
 “Did you see the news?”
 “The sniper?”
“Eddie got shot. He… he just got out of surgery. I’m waiting for the nurse to come get me once he wakes up. He’s going to be okay, but he… he coded on the way here…”
“Oh my God, Buck! Are you okay, honey? I’ll keep Christopher just as long as I need to, okay. You make sure to tell Eddie that, alright? I’ll be here with him as long as I need to be.”
 “Thank you,” Buck mumbles.
 “Did you call Ana?”
“What? No,” Buck says. Why would he call her?
 “Abuela and Pepa…”
“They’re next on my list. Listen, just take care of Christopher. I’ll let you know when I know more. Thank you again.”
Once he’s off the phone with Carla, he calls Pepa who’s already with Abuela and relays all the information to them. Abuela wants to come to the hospital, but Pepa says they shouldn’t because of the pandemic and she reluctantly agrees once Buck promises to call them as soon as he knows more. He sits back in the chair and starts fielding responses from his earlier texts until he looks up and sees Ana there. “What’re you doing here?”
“Could ask you the same thing.”
Buck shakes his head. “I’m… I’m his emergency contact… his POA.”
Ana huffs and stomps toward the desk. She’s about to ask the worker for information on Eddie when a nurse walks out of the double doors and calls, “Mr. Buckley?”
Buck gets up and walks over. Ana abandons her position at the desk to walk over, too. “Yes, that’s me,” Buck says. “Is he awake?”
The nurse nods. “Just woke up and already asking for you,” she says with a sweet smile. Buck’s heart flutters a little. The nurse swipes her card to open the double doors and Buck follows her through. She holds out her arm to stop Ana from following them. “Legally authorized persons and immediately family only. You’ll have to wait here.”
“But I’m his girlfriend!” she huffs.
“I’ll let him know you’re here,” the nurse says kindly and then leads Buck down the hall as the doors close on Ana’s face.
As soon as Buck and the nurse walk into Eddie’s room, he smiles and Buck is overwhelmed with relieved tears again. “I’m okay,” Eddie whispers as Buck drops to the chair next to his bed. “I’m okay. I’m fine. Everything’s fine.”
The nurse clears her throat and Eddie looks over at her. “Uh, there was a woman in the waiting room. Says she’s your girlfriend?”
“Oh shit,” Eddie mumbles. “Uh, yeah, yeah, let her in, can you?”
The nurse nods once and disappears from the room. The show goes back to the waiting room where Ana is pacing in front of the double doors, clearly on edge. The nurse reappears. “Mr. Diaz has authorized your visit,” she says with a smile. “Come with me.”
Ana follows the nurse back the hallway to Eddie’s room. She freezes in the doorway at the sight of Buck holding Eddie’s hand, finally crying the last of his tears as Eddie continues to reassure him that everything’s okay. Then she shakes her head and clears her throat as she walks forward. Eddie looks up at her and smiles politely. “Edmundo,” she croaks. “What the hell happened?”
Buck looks a little taken aback by the use of Eddie’s full name but sits back in the chair. He goes to release Eddie’s hand, but Eddie only holds his tighter. “Uh, well, I was shot.” Ana gives him a look. “Right. You knew that. Um, that sniper that’s been targeting first responders,” he explains. “He, uh, showed up on the roof top next to the one where Buck and I were trying to secure a victim in a basket. I saw just as he pulled the trigger, clearly aimed right at Buck’s chest and I put myself in front of it.”
Buck looks up, wide-eyed at that revelation. “You what?” Ana demands.
Before Eddie can say anything, Buck croaks out, “Why would you do that?”
Eddie’s eyes move from Ana to Buck and his expression softens. “You’re my best friend. I promised to always have your back.” He shrugs a little, wincing in pain.
“You have a child!” Ana rages, stepping closer. “How were we supposed to explain to Christopher that you DIED because you took a bullet for HIM!?!?”
“I didn’t die,” Eddie says calmly. “And if I had, Christopher would’ve understood. Buck’s his best friend, too.”
Ana looks positively enraged, but then Buck mumbles, “It hasn’t felt like it recently.”
Edie looks back to Buck, confused, hurt. He’s clearly trying to figure out what Buck means and then as he racks his brain, it slowly dawns on him. Ever since he started dating Ana, she’s taken Buck’s place in their lives in a lot of ways. Now when they have movie nights it’s with Ana, not Buck. When they go places on Eddie’s days off it’s with Ana, not Buck and he sees the hurt on his best friend’s face, and he realizes what he’s done. “I’m sorry,” is all he can think to say. Buck looks up at him. “I didn’t realize, Buck. I’m sorry.”
 “It’s okay,” Buck mumbles.
“No, it’s not. I was trying to figure out why Chris was being so reluctant. Why he wouldn’t tell me what was bugging him for the past couple months and I… I just realized why. God, I’m so dumb. I’m so sorry.”
“It’s okay,” Buck says again. “Oh, and he’s with Carla and she said she’ll keep him as long as necessary.”
“Thank you,” Eddie mumbles with a soft smile, “for everything.”
Buck can’t help but smile gently back and then Ana huffs in frustration and they both turn to her, having forgot she was even in the room. “Someone care to tell me what the hell is going on right now?”
“It’s complicated,” Eddie offers, and Buck just sighs a little. Eddie glances at him and knows what he needs to do.
The show cuts away from the hospital to Christopher and Carla at Eddie’s house. “When will my dad be home?” Christopher asks.
“Um,” Carla says slowly. “I’m not sure.”
 “What?”
She takes a deep breath. “Your dad got hurt. At work. Um, Buck was at the hospital with him, and I called Ms. Flores and she was going to go over, too.”
 “Is he okay?”
“He will be,” Carla says diplomatically. “Buck said he’d call when he knew more.”
 “Can I call Buck?”
Carla nods. “I think that would be okay.” She pulls out her phone and sends Buck a quick text telling him that Christopher wants to talk to him. Buck replies to give him just a minute and then a minute later Carla’s phone rings with a call from Buck. She hands it to Christopher who smiles at Buck’s name on the screen and answers the call.
 “Hey, Superman!” Buck says.
 “BUCK! Is my dad okay?”
“He will be,” Buck says, echoing Carla’s words. “I was just talking to him, but he’s talking to Ms. Flores now.”
“I don’t like her,” Christopher confides.
 “Really?”
“Mmhmm,” Christopher says quietly, glance at Carla whose eyebrow is raised. “Ever since he started dating her, I haven’t gotten to see you at all. And She doesn’t let me do anything fun and I never get to play video games.” He just goes off on this long list of ways he doesn’t like Ana and why he misses Buck.
“Wanna have a sleepover at my house tonight? I don’t think they’re gonna let your dad come home yet, so just you and me, what d’you say?” Buck asks.
 “Can we?” Christopher asks excitedly.
“Let me ask your dad, but I bet he’ll say yes.”
“Can… Can I talk to him?”
“Let’s see if he’s still awake,” Buck says.
The show goes back to the hospital perspective. Buck walks back into Eddie’s room (a real hospital room, not recovery now) to find Eddie and Ana in a heated argument. But just as he enters, Ana huffs a final sigh and turns to leave. She pushes past Buck. “Have fun with that,” she practically growls, and Buck raises an eyebrow before turning to Eddie who has an apologetic look on his face.
“Um, Christopher wants to talk to you,” Buck says, offering Eddie the phone. He smiles just barely and takes it as he starts talking to Christopher.
 [end finale]

I feel like out of all the characters, even though he’s the only straight one in the party, Dustin has the most astute gaydar.
EXCEPT when it comes to the older kids.
Like I feel like the second he saw Will staring at Mike he was like “Gay. Mega gay. Absolute homo energy,” he probably figured out that Max and Lucas were bi even before they did themselves.
But he could not tell you that Eddie was gay and Robin was a lesbian even if Eddie was SITTING IN STEVES LAP and Robin was STARING AT NANCY WITH PRACTICALLY CARTOONISH HEART EYES.
He would just be like “Yep, these are the most hetero heteros to ever hetero”

eah characters as cavetown songs
this was inspired by @/applewhiteapologist's eah characters as taylor swift songs, sooooooo yeah
some characters might not be here because: 1. it's hard to find songs for them (as of right now) 2. i forgot them/i'll do them if i have more time
apple white - devil town v2/green
-i chose devil town v2 because it seemed the most, uh, apple out of all the devil town versions? devil town v1 seems edgy-ish, and devil town v3 seems lower and calmer, i think???? maybe i just chose this because it has those light, floaty chords, i'm not sure, i'm not smart or anything -also i honestly felt like this was hard -i chose devil town because it could represent the future she pictured in her mind when raven didn't sign the book -i don't really know what to explain green, but like, ashlynn and apple in true hearts day??? that's the best way i could explain this song -lyric analysis time: --"i still get a little scared of something new, but I feel a little safer when i'm with you, falling doesn't feel so bad, when I know you've fallen this way too" ---apple is "a little scared of something new" because she's in for an unpredictable future without the storybook of legends ---for the falling part, it's like she's not so sad about being led astray when she's with her friends maybeeeeeee -lyrics for green because i can't explain it but it's just THERE: --"you looked so good in green i hope you’re well and you look so good with him and i’m proud of you still take care of my shirt warm and red i hope you think of me still as your friend i hope you love yourself your body and heart i hope you feel happy that’s all i want that's all i want"
raven queen - devil town v1 (dang it there's no purple text so have plain text)
-i just chose devil town v1 because i think it would work well with her guitar, i actually don't know how guitar works but i'm pretending to know how it works, don't tell anyone i don't know how they work -i think this song could represent her home life and whatnot because she's living with the evil queen -it's lyric analysis time!!: --"you said something dumb again, she's mad, at least that's what they say" (i just used orange so the lyrics wouldn't blend in as much) ---the something dumb thing could be like a 'nice deed' the evil queen doesn't like, and she's mad because of that --"we're all dead in devil town, that's fine, cause nothing's gonna scare us now" ---she's 'dead' after all the nagging and 'be eviL EMBRACE YOUR INNER EVIL' shit and it's now the normal, and it's not going to scare her since it's basically her life now -also slowed devil town can fit her too
madeline hatter - hug all ur friends/talk to me
-she's just so friendly?????? and supportive?????? and oh gosh i need a hug???????? -seriously though, they suit her because she feels so much like a huggy, supportive person and she's friends with everyone sooooooooooooo, hugs for everyone!! except you crystal!! and headmaster grimm!! not forgiving for the time you almost banished maddie!! -the lyrics because i can't explain these songs, it's just that maddie vibe, you know?: --"life’s too short to worry about things that we got wrong, so hug all your friends and let them know, you’re not letting go, i’m not letting go" (hug all ur friends) --"you don't have to be a prodigy to be unique you don't have to know what to say or what to think you don't have to be anybody you can never be that's alright, let it out, talk to me" (talk to me)
briar beauty - pigeon
-i had a very hard time with her but i think this kinda fits -it generates a sleepy vibe? (even though i didn't get this from the sleepyhead album *cough cough*) -okay, so the reason why i chose this for her is because of the chorus, which could kind of tie in with her destiny, with the 100 year coma -have the chorus for reference: --"didn’t give me time to say goodbye in the way that i wanted to, so honey, close your eyes and stay like you’re supposed to do, don’t know how i’m gonna live without, but i’ll stay strong for you"
ca cupid - sweet tooth/for you
-this is already self-explanatory if you listened to the song(s), buT IF YOU HAVEN'T YET, basically it's a song about an unhealthy crush and love and stuff -and you know who she has an unhealthy crush on???? that's right, it's blondie!! /hj (but seriously, in canon it's dexter but uH, i refuse to believe that, they're better off as friends) -lyric examples because like maddie, i can't really explain it but i know the vibe is THERE: --"a sweet tooth for you, i'm wide awake, the sugar went straight to my brain, feel like a kid, i double tap, my chest with my fist, i like you, say it back, say it back"
cerise hood - snail
-snail iS SUCH A GREAT SONG OMG -snail kinda represents her childhood and 'not wanting to be born like this' because of her parents technically breaking destiny (stupid storybook of legends) -lyrics from the song because i kinda don't really need to explain this song more: --"i was just born like this, wish that i could change it" --"i'm hanging out with the foxes and the hounds, and when i fit in i'll break back out"
daring charming - boys will be bugs/lemons (technically cavetown is just a feature but he's still there so yeah)
-it's just about the vibes -and also about the fact that the person in the songs have to uphold some sort of standard (the songs' standards were about masculinity) and i thought it could fit daring because he also has to uphold a standard (being the perfect charming prince) -also in lemons, daring's part is the one where cavetown sings it (if that wasn't obvious) -also ANOTHER LEMONS SIDE NOTE, i'd imagine rosabella singing brye's part, just because -lyrics time: --"don't mess with me, i'm a big boy now and i'm very scary i punch my walls, stay out at night, and i do karate don't message me 'cause i won't reply, i wanna make you cry ain't that how it's supposed to be? though it isn’t me boys will be bugs, right?" (boys will be bugs) --"so i'm gonna take it out on you too proud to show i'm hurting push it on you 'til you're burning" (lemons)
darling charming - 888/trying
-888 is a fun song, very groovy, has peppa pig plasters, 10/10 -main reason i chose 888, it kinda feels gay when you put it under a certain light?????????? -and snail could also fit with darling but i don't want to rob cerise -i was very stuck for a second song for darling because i felt obligated to give the charming siblings two songs because they're that top tier, but i think trying could be a good fit to some extent -could be like 'not great relationship with parents, struggle to fit with their standards ever since she found out she wanted to be a hero or something' -i still do think snail is a better fit for darling but i really really don't want to rob cerise because cerise is amazing -some lyrics: --"i'm workin' things out clouds lookin' strange papercut fingers dancing on the strings if i could see you right now i'd dance just for you when the nightlight goes out" (888) --"please let me know if you change your mind cause inside i'm falling And I need you to pull me out of this decline i realize how hard on you this must seem But trust me when i say it's far, far worse for me" (trying)
dexter charming - telescope/home
-telescope just feels like his vibe???? also because it kinda also have hopeless romantic-ness???? -also i headcanon him to be an astronomy nerd???? so that's fun???? that's my reasoning i guess???? (also, side-note i have just listened to astronomy by conan gray and it fits dexter) -ALSO HOME IS HERE BECAUSE DEXTER IS TRANS YOU CAN'T CHANGE MY MIND -also because it's also his vibe??????? -what time is it????? *clap clap* it's lyrics time!!: --"through the lens, it's dark, single-digit on the clock singing, "yessiree, i sure like-a you a lot" all i need is to get her she'll be happy if you let her" (telescope) --"turn off your porcelain face i can't really think right now and this place has too many colors, enough to drive all of us insane are you dead? sometimes i think i'm dead cause i can feel ghosts and ghouls wrapping my head but i don't wanna fall asleep just yet" (home)
okay the process of this post was just me staring at the lyrics and listening to cavetown a lot, sometimes during online classes but shhhh don't tell anyone (and finding more great songs)
is this post going to flop?? very very likely. do i care? eh, not sure, this was just me trying to put on my big brain hat.
also i realized while reading this post, that i never actually analyzed the majority of the songs' lyrics in this post?? so i'm very sorry

Quick AU where Danny stays in town during Girls Night Out
Yeah, random thoughts spring into brain. Danny is trans. I think that's enough background info. Also, Tumblr got a new post editor, so I'm betaing it right now.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Danny was supposed to go fishing with his dad. But something came up. AKA, Vlad wanted him to go visit him without Danny. So Danny was in Amity Park when he was supposed to be having dad bonding time. What could he say? His dad got that dumb book and everything. It was gonna be epic. Except stupid Vlad had to go and ruin everything. Whatever. Dad said they would go next weekend.
The first big issue was when Tucker disappeared. And he didn't. Might've been a dumb ghost thing. So he and Sam went to find stuff out. Except all the men in town were gone. It was glaring. "I-I'm sure it's nothing Danny!" Sam said nervously. "Yeah. It's gotta have been a stupid mistake. Maybe I'm immune cause I'm half ghost," Except there weren't any male ghosts either. "Yeah, that's gotta be it!" That when they heard Ember. "OH YEAH! NO MORE PESKY GUYS! IT'S A GIRL'S NIGHT OUT!" "Yes. You know, I'm surprised that worked. I was afraid it might've been a ghost only thing," Spectra drawled. "Of course it worked. The superior gender always prevails," Kitty replied. "And that's obviously female," Every vein in his body was pounding. "I think you might've confused sex for gender ladies," Sam said patiently. "We're not having sex!" Ember laughed. "You do realize how invalidating this can feel for trans people?!" Sam shrieked back. "If they're still here, that means it's a she," Spectra grinned. That was the last straw. He ran. As fast as he could. And for a half ghost that was fast. Once he got home, he slammed the door.
Sam saw Danny run off and knew how this was looking for him. "Isn't this rich? The ghost boy is really a girl," Kitty grinned. "I'm surprised I didn't notice sooner," Spectra laughed. Ember stayed oddly quiet for someone who was normally boisterously loud.
Danny curled in on himself. Herself. NO! Don't second guess yourself. It change the fact that it hurt. "All the men in town are gone!" He heard Jazz yell. "I realize that Jazz. Thank goodness your father is out of town," Mom sighed. "Wait, but Danny isn't! I really hope..." She was standing in his doorway. "FUCKING GHOSTS!" Jazz didn't swear. She never swore. "What is it Jazz? Oh. Danny, I'm so sorry," Mom pulled him into a hug. "I'll be fine," He grumbled. "Do you know which ghosts?" Jazz decided to change the conversation. "Spectra, Kitty and Ember," "Great. Spectra is going to use this horribly," Jazz grumbled quiet enough that only Danny could hear. "Listen, we have to get the guys back first," "Wait, if you're, that means any trans women in Amity are stuck there," Mom said. "Can we not talk about that? I'm seriously not in the mood," "At least pesky Phantom won't be here to get in the way," Jazz and Danny exchanged a look. Sam came bursting in. "Danny! Okay, I am going to make them even deader than before," Sam cracked her knuckles. "I'm fine Sam. Let's just find a way to fix this," "I have an idea!" Jazz said. "No," Danny, Sam and Mom said in unison. "Oh come on. Don't be like that. Not all my plans are bad," Jazz protested. "Speaking from experience (of being trapped in a thermos way too much for one night), that is completely untrue," "What was that about thermoses Danny?" Mom said. "Jazz put soup in my Fenton Thermos!" "I couldn't tell them apart! We really need to label things," "Like with a massive sticker that say Fenton?" "All our stuff has those!" "Fair enough," Danny conceded. It was the plan if anyone caught them talking about getting trapped in thermoses. It made sense because it actually happened. "Well, since Jazz's plan is out, I opt that we figure out how this whole thing happened," Mom said. "It's a combo between Kitty and Ember. Kitty has this thing that makes men disappear into another dimension. And Ember must've used her guitar to make it cover all of Amity. If we don't get them out in twelve hours, they'll be stuck there forever," "And I will have to resign to a life of raging dysphoria," "You were gonna have that anyways," "Times ten. This won't help anyways, but it won't be all bad," "Let's stop talking about you being trans. Danny, you're staying here," Jazz winked. He knew what that meant. They would get all the men back and Danny would keep the ghosts at bay. "Okay. So, from what they were blabbing, all we have to do is get them to do it again," Sam said. Once they had a plan in place, all they had to do was implement it. They left and Danny quickly transformed. Praying that Spectra wouldn't find a way to use this against him, he sped off. "Hey! Poo faces! I'm not gone, and it semi pisses me off!" He screamed. "Oh now sweety. Why would you want to leave behind the superior gender?" Spectra said. "Because it makes me feel horrible and like I was born wrong," "You were, weren't you," Don't let Spectra sink her claws in Fenturd! "Yeah, maybe I was, but if I work hard enough I can fix it," "How is Danny Phantom still here?" He heard Paulina say. Nope, not listening. "They're all going to know. You can't do anything about that," Spectra laughed evilly. "Now girls, follow the recipe! You too now," "I'm. NOT A GIRL!" The wail was probably ill planned, but Danny wasn't thinking straight. Shit, humans. He cut himself off. "Oh come on now. No matter how many times you tell yourself that, you still have to cover parts of yourself. Don't tell me you don't wake up every morning and wish you were a real boy?" "I am. I am a real boy. I just have to take a few extra steps to get there," "Oh come on now. Stop lying to yourself. Maddie, how can you possibly call these eggs? They're green," Okay, maybe dealing with Spectra first was a bad idea. But she was also taunting his mom. Deal with Ember. She must be better than this.
So he flew to a stage. Ember was rocking out with a bunch of girls. Sam was in the background. This was probably one of the less dangerous problems. "Listen, if you're going to taunt me for the fact that I'm still here, do it already," "Hey, listen kid. I'm not actually going to taunt you. Kitty and Spectra are being complete jerks, but I'm not going to judge you for being trans," "Y-you're not?" "Heck no! I'm doing this because I wanted to have a fun night without guys. You included. I'll just have to take a few extra steps to get rid of you!" Danny dodged the guitar strum easily. "Are you planning on bringing them back at the end of the night?" "That's really up to Kitty," "I guess," Sam could deal with Ember.
Next up was Kitty. Oh great, makeup. (I honestly forget what Kitty was doing, so makeup works) "Now girls. All you gotta do is apply the bronzer like so!" "Kitty! How would Johnny feel if he knew you were doing this?" "Oh come on now Ghost girl, you can't be serious. Johnny is having a guys night in all due time," "HEY! Don't you dare. Transphobia doesn't help anyone," Jazz yelled. "Oh stop complaining. She knows she doesn't belong with the guys. From the looks of it, Spectra's already gotten to you. This'll make this so much easier,"
The plan backfired immensely. Danny and Mom were a mess, Sam didn't manage to get the guitar, and Jazz just got in a debate with Kitty. Danny, having to keep up a facade, came downstairs. "How'd it go?" "Terribly. Though, I did learn the Ghost Boy is trans," Mom said. "Fascinating," "It's, well it's oddly human. Why would a ghost even bother?" "Turns out gender dysphoria comes to the grave," "Danny, this is no time for one of your morbid jokes," Yeah, maybe it was morbid, but it wasn't a joke. "Whatever. I guess we get to use Jazz's plan," "All we gotta do is convince them that a cis guy is still in town. Like wandered in after the disappearing act," "Great plan. Sam can't pretend to be me though," "How did you know I was going to do that?" "Lucky guess,"
So that's how Jazz ended up wearing a baseball cap and a pair of men's jeans into Ember's concert. "Did we really have to use a pair of dad's jeans? These barely fit," "You know, the fact that they fit at all should be surprising. Dad was skinny at one point in his life. Which means that one of us could be on his end of the gene pool," "It's probably you," "Don't make me think about that. Hiding what little chest I have is hard enough. If I got dad's genes, I'd honestly be terrified," "We haven't seen the women on his side of the family. And besides, you got the blue eyes black hair thing," "You are honestly scaring me. Now, I gotta scram before someone sees me talking to you. Mom or the ghosts," "Fair,"
And thus, the plan worked. Kitty, adamant that no men be left in Amity, blew another kiss. Ember amplified it. The men came back. The three got thermosed. Jazz laughed at their faces when they honestly though she was from out of town. Danny once again didn't get taken, even in ghost form.
Tucker and Sam found him curled up in his bed. "Hey man. I know this has gotta be tough for you," Tucker said. "Spectra had no right!" Sam continued. "Thanks guys. But I think I'm gonna take a few days off school," The trio heard Dash's voice outside. "Hey mom. I know what happened was scary. And I know it must've felt really bad, but I still see you as my mom," "Thanks Dash. I can always count on you to make me feel better," A woman's voice rang out. Danny looked over the window sill. "See Danny. It's not horribly weird. Just a few transphobic ghosts," Tucker laughed. "A couple," "What?" Sam and Tucker said in unison. "Ember isn't," "How do you know that?" "I talked to her," "Hey Fenturd! Don't you dare tell anyone about my mom! And don't be mean to her! I'm sure you wouldn't get it," "You'd be surprised Dash!" He grabbed his trans flag and hung it out the window. "I get it more than you seem to think!" Dash's mom smiled at him. "Y-you're trans? I thought you were just a loser!" "Yeah, and I had to talk to the transphobic ghosts. So I won't invalidate your mom!" Dash stared up at him. "Holy shit,"

Praying that this uploads, cause I've got shoddy internet rn. And I'm working on my Gravity Falls crossover fic. I just had this pop into my mind. Prolly just gonna be a oneshot. I might make another fic about Jack's side of the family later, that's connected to this one.

i like watching the days go by with you | 2k words | buddie | pre-relationship, domestic fluff | ao3
written for Eddie Diaz Week 2021 | Day 2: “This is nice.” + soft
.
A quiet but persistent buzzing noise coming from somewhere behind his head is what startles Eddie awake. He peaks one eye open but his vision is still fuzzy from sleep so he almost knocks over the lamp as he tries to locate his phone. Eventually, he manages to silence the alarm. With a sigh, he falls back onto the pillow, blinking and waiting until he feels awake enough to roll out of bed. The curtains are slightly parted and the already bright L.A. sun is creeping up the floorboards, painting a narrow path across the bed and widening up on the wall behind Eddie. He smiles to himself.
At the beginning of their group sleepover — or quarantine, if you wish — in Buck’s apartment Eddie made a small comment that getting blinded by the sun first thing in the morning wasn’t really his favourite thing to do. Since then, the curtains were kept shut every morning. Sometimes, when Eddie stirred awake as Buck was getting up, he saw his friend walk towards the window to peek outside. And every single time he parted the curtains just the tiniest bit, mindful of Eddie’s half-serious comment. The thoughtfulness made Eddie’s heart soar.
This whole living at Buck’s place thing has been… interesting so far. The sleeping arrangements seemed like a challenge at first but they’ve dealt with it pretty quickly. On the first day when they showed up on Buck’s doorstep, he had an argument with Hen about giving her the bed. Unsurprisingly, Buck lost and Hen happily took the couch. Chim, only slightly less happily took the mattress they've placed downstairs. There was a perfectly good mattress waiting for Eddie in the loft as well.
But the problem was that… he never really used it. That first night they were all tired after their shift, Chim and Hen already snoring quietly downstairs. Eddie moved over to the corner of the room, with every intention of crashing there for the night. But then Buck made a casual comment about the bed being big enough and that they could share if Eddie wanted.
And Eddie wanted. For a lot of reasons. Though the one that sounded the most reasonable at that moment was the fact that the bed was way more comfortable and required much less preparation than the mattress. And Eddie’s brain was too tired to tell him why sharing a bed with Buck was a dumb idea. ‘Having some kind of not-strictly-platonic feelings for Buck’ would definitely make it to the top of the list. But there was no list at the time, so Eddie just snuck under the covers on the left side of the bed that Buck left for him. They were both out within minutes.
And then Eddie just… didn’t bother with the mattress. Even though — or maybe because — on that first morning he woke up well rested and content, with Buck’s arm thrown loosely across his waist. It was nice. It took all of Eddie’s willpower not to roll over, closer into the warm embrace. Neither he, nor Buck commented on it and they let it be. Eddie was more than sure that Hen and Chim noticed — they noticed everything — but except a curious glance or five every now and then, they didn’t say anything. They kept up the whole thing even when Hen decided to go back home to Karen and the kids. Chim took the couch instead, his mattress had been put away. And Eddie stayed in Buck’s bed.
So here Eddie is now, sprawled on said bed with a stupid smile on his face, staring at the curtains like it’s the best thing ever. It certainly is great and lets him wake up without feeling like someone’s flashing a torch into his eyes. But it’s not directly responsible for the stupid smile, he must admit.
It takes him another minute before he finally wills his body to move. The right side of the bed is already vacant when he rolls over onto his stomach. He sends a glance downstairs. Buck is bustling around the kitchen, earphones in so he won’t disturb anyone. Eddie is pretty sure that he’s listening to this science slash comedy podcast he’s been obsessed with lately. He can’t really remember the name but he’s pretty sure there was a “fish” in it.
With one more content sigh, Eddie rolls out of bed and makes his way downstairs barefoot. As he walks closer, his brain recognises the scents coming from the kitchen. Coffee and something delicious that smells of tomatoes and fresh basil. His smile grows even bigger. He’s spent enough mornings here to hope that there’s a cup of freshly brewed coffee waiting for him as well.
Before Eddie can make a beeline for the coffee machine and check, Buck turns to take something from the kitchen island. His eyes skip to Eddie and his whole face lights up in a smile. Eddie’s breath hitches but he reciprocates the gesture. How can he not when Buck is looking like that, all happiness and soft curls? Eddie’s right hand twitches by his side. There’s a sudden need in him to run his fingers through Buck’s hair, to see if it’s as soft as it looks like. To stop himself from doing something stupid, Eddie grabs the barstool and sits down. He stuffs his hands under his tights, for good measure.
“Morning,” Buck greets, taking his earphones out and putting them in his pocket.
Before Eddie can say anything, a cup of coffee is placed right in front of him. He inhales the scent and lets out a happy little hum that makes Buck laugh.
“Hildy sends her regards,” Buck jokes, laughing even harder at the unimpressed look on Eddie’s face.
Really, it’s about time Buck let that go. It wasn’t Eddie’s fault that he had been startled, hearing a strange voice saying “Hello, Eddie” as he walked into the kitchen that first morning. And he already apologised for the mug he dropped. To Buck’s credit, he did disable the voice greetings after that. Now the cursed machine was just… quietly lurking from its place on the counter.
“Thanks, Buck,” he says sincerely after all, deciding to ignore the comment.
Buck only shrugs with a smile and turns back to whatever is sizzling on the pan. Eddie wraps his hands around the mug and takes a sip. Another content hum escapes his lips before he can stop it.
“This is nice,” Eddie says.
He’s not even sure what exactly he’s referring to. The coffee, the slow and calm atmosphere of the morning, the sight of Buck in a soft hoodie, pushing an omelette towards Eddie? The domesticity of it all that makes Eddie’s heart ache? It’s all of it and probably more. If only Christopher was around to join them in the kitchen right now, to ask for pancakes for breakfast and complain about his online classes or tell them about the dream he’s had. Then, Eddie would be completely and thoroughly happy.
And this is a thought that both excites and terrifies him at the same time.
But it’s a bit less scary when Buck is standing right in front of him, his big arms resting against the counter as he leans forward. He’s looking at Eddie with those soft eyes and a beautiful smile on his lips. The only thing Eddie can do is to stare back and hope that his face is better at controlling his emotions than his heart is.
It would be so easy to just lean forward a little and—
“God, you two make me miss Maddie even more,” Chimney says from somewhere behind Eddie’s back.
His sudden appearance startles Eddie enough that he pushes a fork off the counter. It falls to the floor with a loud clatter and he quickly ducks to retrieve it.
“I’ll start giving you plastic utensils at some point, I swear,” Buck says, shaking his head at Eddie. His eyes are laughing, though, so Eddie knows he’s not being serious.
“Oh fuck off, I apologised for that mug already. And it was just a fork this time, don’t be dramatic,” Eddie rolls his eyes at him but he’s smiling as well. Then he turns and adds, “Morning, Chim.”
Chimney is freshly showered and pours himself a cup of coffee. He’s also watching them with a raised eyebrow and an amused smile on his face. Eddie tries his best to ignore that, just like he ignored Chim’s comment.
“Um, so,” Eddie starts, wanting to steer the conversation onto a different track. “What facts did they have today?” he asks, pointing his chin at Buck’s phone laying on the counter. Just like he expected, there’s a paused episode of that No Such Thing as a Fish podcast.
“Oh, did you know that there is a type of pasta that only 3 women in the world can make?” Buck’s eyes light up in excitement. “It’s some fancy one they make in Sardinia and it’s called threads of God. The recipe has been passed from mother to daughter for ages.”
“What if they run out of daughters and have a son?” Eddie asks.
“It’s fine, cause the recipe isn’t even secret or anything,” Buck says, pointing the spatula at him. “It’s just a pain in the ass to make. They’ve been trying to teach people how to do it but it’s just hard enough that most of them just give up.”
Chimney chuckles at that around a mouthful of omelette. "You should totally try. I wouldn't be surprised if you'd manage to do it, out of sheer stubbornness."
And Buck — both because he's interested and because he rarely steps down from a challenge — reaches for his phone and starts googling for the recipe and reads out whatever he finds.
It sounds really interesting. And not only because Eddie has a soft spot for Buck and the little tidbits of information he gathers and then excitedly shares with everyone who wants to listen. Eddie always does. Some people just shrug or roll their eyes at Buck, but Eddie really admires his interest, the childlike curiosity about the world that Buck has. There are so many things Eddie admires about him.
All things considered, Eddie shouldn’t be surprised that somewhere along the way he has fallen in love with his best friend.
It catches him a bit off guard, being able to put a name to the feeling that has been blooming in his heart for so long. But it doesn’t make him panic, at least no more than having feelings for his best friend already did. It’s more of a relief, really. It all makes sense now.
Eddie doesn’t even realise that he’s been smiling and staring at the half-eaten omelette in front of him until his phone buzzes with a new text message. It shakes him out of his thoughts and he opens it to find a photo from Christopher.
"Everything okay, Eddie?" he hears Buck ask.
Raising his head, Eddie is met with a slightly worried gaze. He smiles, showing Buck the text he's just gotten.
"Yeah, Christopher's just complaining about his history assignment," he explains.
Buck chuckles at the photo of Chris' pouting face as he holds a history textbook and 'There's too many dates!' with a row of angry emojis written underneath. "We should FaceTime him later. I miss that little rascal."
Eddie doesn't point out that they've done that barely two days ago. Instead, his smile grows bigger as he agrees. He knows for a fact that Chris misses his Buck just as much and that the two of them have been texting a lot.
For some reason, Chimney sighs, rolls his eyes as Eddie glances at him, and leaves the kitchen with his coffee cup still in hand. Eddie's not sure what that was about. He doesn't have time to dwell on it though, because Buck drops on the barstool next to him with his own breakfast, their knees knocking together as he makes himself comfortable. Sipping the last of his coffee, Eddie bites the inside of his cheek to stop a smile.
He really could get used to spending all of his mornings like this.

Imagine setting up for Christmas at Joel and Tess'
Tess was walking up the stairs with a bunch of boxes with Joel behind her with his own boxes "I think this is a great view" he said and laughed "our grandchildren are coming over today Joel, keep it PG" Tess laughs. They set all the boxes down and Joel grabbed her waist and pulled her close to him, she laughed and wrapped her arms around his neck. He looked down at her and smiled, she smiled back "how did i get so lucky" he said to her with love in his eyes "you just seemed like you needed a strong woman to take care of you" she smiled at him and he leaned down to kiss her "oh mom and dad are already kissing" they heard Ellie laugh and turned around to see Ellie and Dina standing at the entrance holding a car seat with a sleeping JJ in it. Joel walked up to her and hugged her and she hugged back "hey Joel" she said and smiled "hey kiddo" he smiled then went to hug Dina who returned the hug. Tess did the same thing "wanna hold him?" Dina asked and took JJ out of the car seat, Tess nodded and held the baby smiling. The girls took their coats off and put them on the railing "is Maddy and Yara not here yet?" Ellie asked looking around "nope they are always late" Tess said and swayed back and forth with JJ. Ellie and Dina walked over to sit on the sofa "no no no hear me out why does she have to wear a little dress, she could wear a little suit if she wanted we should have asked her" hey heard Maddy walk in ranting to Yara "Maddy first off it's Christmas and second off we are at your parent's house" Yara said holding their one year old daughter in a blanket "yeah so they raised me listening to these rants you love so much" she smiled "hi Joel, hi Tess" Yara smiled and waved "hi Yara" they both said and returned the smile. Yara passed Riley off to Maddy and took her coat off putting it next to Ellie and Dina's. Then Maddy took hers off passing Riley over to Yara and ran to Joel "dad!" She yelled "Maddy no I have a coffee in my hand" he yelled and ended up dropping it to catch his daughter. Ellie managed to catch the cup so it didn't break but the coffee spilled out of it onto the floor. Maddy laughed and got out of Joel's arms "I'll clean it up mom it's ok" she laughed looking at her mom's reaction and walked into the kitchen to get paper towels to clean the mess up. When she got back Jesse and Manny were sitting next to each other, Manny had his head and Jesse's shoulder and Jesse waved "hey Maddy" he smiled and she waved back. Then cleaned up the mess, they all sat down. They put the babies in a playpen and they played together just babbling. The door opened and Abby and Lev walked in. Joel got up and took their coats, Joel hugged Abby then Lev "how are yall?" He asked and Abby smiled "we're good, how are you?" she asked and he nodded. They all started setting up the decorations together "I wanna put the tree topper on this year" Maddy yelled so Joel lifted her up and she put the topper on the tree. When they were all done decorating everyone sat down. They all sat in groups and talked with each other. Manny kept saying dumb stuff so Jesse kept giving him side glares while he talked. Soon after Tommy and Maria showed up "sorry we're late Tommy took forever to get ready" she laughed and they set their coats down. Tess and Joel walked over to hug them. Tess and Maria walked into the kitchen and started talking and laughing about their husbands. All the kids were sitting around drinking and laughing. Joel and Tommy were bonding over brotherly stuff.

Friends Don’t
Emily Prentiss x Reader
Word count: 2.3K
Requested by: n/a
This story is based off the song Friends Don’t by Maddie & Tae
“Hey y/n, wanna have a movie night this weekend? Five Feet Apart is finally on netflix, I know you’ve been dying to see it,” Emily offers as she sits on the edge of your desk and you can feel your face lighting up.
“Yeah! I was supposed to drive down to my sister’s house, but odds are we’ll get a case and I won’t make it down anyway. I’ll let her know I’ll take a few days off next month to go,” you say and it’s Emily’s turn to smile.
“That sounds great, as long as you’re sure she won’t mind,” Emily sounds hesitant but you just shake your head.
“I promise she won’t. I’d much rather spend the weekend with you anyway.”
“We’ve got a case,” JJ’s voice cuts off your conversation and you stand to follow her.
“Told you,” you call over your shoulder to Emily.
When you settle into the conference room you see Garcia already standing in the front to present. Hotch, JJ, and Rossi are sitting around the table. You glance around for the last two members of your team, but seeing no sign of them.
“Where are Morgan and Reid?” Emily asks before you can and JJ shrugs.
“I texted them, they should be here any minute,” Garcia says and on cue the two men come rushing into the room. Spencer’s hair is messed up and Morgan’s shirt is half untucked.
“Sorry, I was grabbing files from the archive room,” Spencer says and you look at Emily, raising an eyebrow.
“I was helping him reach the stuff that was too high,” Morgan says and Emily rolls her eyes and sends you a look. You both stifle your laughter, knowing that’s a blatant lie. They’re the same height but you decide to let it slide as Garcia starts the briefing.
xxxxx
The case was long and by the time your plane touched down back in DC you were all beyond ready to get home.
“You all set? I can walk you to your car,” Emily offers and you nod, the two of you saying goodbye to the rest of the team and making your way to the parking garage.
“Hell of a case, huh?” you say and Emily chuckles.
“More like the case from hell. If I have to look at those crime scene photos one more time, I’ll scream,” she says and you can’t help but agree as you walk up to your car. Instead of getting in you lean up against it and continue to talk to her. The topic changes more times than you can count but despite the exhaustion seeping into your bones, you can’t find the will to leave. You notice your team members walking by, first JJ and Reid get into her car and drive off. Then Rossi starts his fancy antique car and pulls out of the lot. Derek is next, rubbing his eyes and stifling a yawn as he throws a wave in your direction. You both wave back before turning to each other once again. You’re spinning your keys around your fingers when Hotch finally makes his way out of the building.
“You two are still here? Is everything okay?” Hotch asks and you look around, realizing there are only three cars left in the lot, yours, his, and Emily’s.
“Huh? Oh, no we’re fine. We just lost track of time,” Emily reassures him. He sends you a look you can’t decipher before he nods.
“Alright, well you should probably get home, it’s getting late,” He says and you both agree as he walks towards his car.
“He’s right. We should get going,” you tell Emily and she pulls you into a hug. It lasts maybe a bit longer than it should but neither of you say anything as you get into your respective cars and drive off.
Not long after you get home and settle into bed your phone rings. You groan, thinking you’re getting called back in so soon, but your mood lightens when you see it’s Emily.
“Hey, is everything okay?” you ask and you hear her chuckle on the other end of the line.
“Yeah. I don’t really know why I called. I guess I just wanted to say hi,” Emily says and you laugh a bit. “I guess that’s dumb.”
“No, Em. It’s not dumb. I think it’s adorable, and I’ll never say no to a chance to hear your voice,” you tell her truthfully and with that you’re picking up your conversation from earlier. You know you’re going to be fighting to stay awake at work tomorrow, but it’s worth it.
xxxxx
The next time the team gets back from a case nobody is ready to go home. It was a rough one and none of you want to be alone. When Morgan suggests drinks downtown you all agree, and decide to meet at the bar. You’re the first to arrive and you head straight for the bar, ordering a round of drinks for everyone before finding a booth you’ll all fit at. Hotch and Garcia arrive at almost the same time, both joining you.
“How’s everything going with you two?” Hotch asks and you simply shrug as Garcia goes into a tale of her most recent adventures.
“Kevin and I tried a pottery class last week, I can’t say it ended well,” She says and you all laugh.
“Emily and I did that once. I swear I was finding clay in my hair for a week,” you say and Garcia tilts her head to the side.
“You and Emily took a couples pottery class?” There’s no accusation in her voice but you still choke on your drink.
“No, it was a public class at that community college by my house. It wasn’t a couples thing,” you explain and she seems to accept your answer. She goes back to her horror story about her class but you can only think about her comment. Sure, you and Emily do a lot of couple stuff. You spend the night at each other’s house, you cancel plans to spend time with her, you’d do anything just to spend time with her. The more you think about it the more you realize friends don’t do that kind of stuff. You’re pulled away from thinking about her when she suddenly appears next to you.
“Hey, you okay?” Her voice is quiet. She doesn’t want to alert the rest of your team to your state unless you want them to know, which makes you fall a little harder.
“Uh, yeah I’m good. Just thinking about the case,” you brush it off and she takes your hand. You swear you feel sparks and your heart starts racing when she doesn’t let go immediately.
“You don’t need to think about that right now. We’re here to have fun, let’s get you another drink!” She says enthusiastically and you can’t help but smile.
“Sounds like a plan.”
xxxxx
A few hours and probably one too many shots later you sat with the whole team around the table. Morgan is in the middle of a drunken story about him and Ried betting on a basketball game and how he lost.
“I coached it in high school,” Ried says and something about a tiny 12 year old Spencer coaching a high school basketball team has you all dying laughing. You fall into Emily’s side and instead of helping you up she simply wraps an arm around you and pulls your back closer to her chest. You know you should pull away, but you can’t find the will to.
“Alright, I wanna dance. Anybody with me?” Garcia announces and JJ, Spencer, and Morgan all Jump up. With the combined pout of all four of them they’re even able to drag Hotch along.
“You two coming?” JJ asks and you can feel Emily shrug behind you.
“Nah, I’m comfy. Maybe later,” you say and she nods before following everyone else to the floor. Once she’s gone you adjust in Emily’s arms until you can see her face.
She stares at you for a few moments and you smile up at her. “What’s going on in that beautiful mind of yours?”
“Everything. Nothing. I don’t know,” she says with a shrug and you chuckle.
“Everything and nothing, huh? That’s quite a bit,” you tease for a second before brushing the hair out of her face. Your hand stays on her cheek as you wait for her to continue, but she doesn’t. “Come on, Em. Talk to me.”
“Just thinking about my future, I guess. I always do after hard cases. It makes me realize how lucky I am to even have one, and I think about what I want it to look like,” she explains and you grin. With anyone else the intimate position you’re in would be awkward, but sitting here with your legs draped across Emily’s, her hands holding you in place, one on your waist the other on your thighs, you feel content. Maybe it’s nothing to her, but one look in her eyes tells you that she feels something too, even if she doesn’t quite know what yet. You brush your thumb across her cheekbone as you listen. “I always wanted to make my way up in the FBI, maybe in Interpol, but now I don’t think I’d ever leave this team. I’d like to keep things just the way they are. The team, you…”
Your breath hitches as she trails off. “Em, I…” you almost say it. You almost tell her you love her, but before you can finish a giggling JJ and Garcia are back.
“Stop being party poopers, come dance,” Garcia whines as JJ pulls you up, and the moment is over.
xxxxx
The team goes their separate ways around 1 o'clock in the morning. Will picks up JJ and Spencer, Kevin comes down to drive Morgan and Garcia, and Hotch is sober enough to drive him and Rossi home. You’re fumbling with your phone, trying to call a taxi when it slips out of your hands. Emily catches it before it hits the ground and puts it in her own pocket.
“Come on, I’m good to drive. I’ll take you home,” Emily’s words cause you to think back on the night. While you had lost count of the drinks you and Garcia shared and taken a few shots trying to outdrink Morgan, Emily had nursed a beer or two the whole night. You nod, letting her lead you to her car.
“Thanks Em,” you say and she laughs as you fumble a bit with the car door.
“You alright there? I think you had a bit too much to drink,” she teases and you roll your eyes.
“Please. Only like, a quarter of this is from the alcohol. I’m just clumsy,” you say and she laughs again, opening the door and offering you a hand to help you in before settling into the driver's side. “Seriously though Em, I’m tipsy and stumbling but I’m not gone. I wouldn’t get behind a wheel but I’m not that impared right now. My brain is still all here.”
“I’m not judging you, y/n,” Emily promises, grabbing your hand over the center console as she pulls out of the parking lot. “Even if you were completely out of it I’d still be here to help you out. Though I’d definitely film the drunken rambles we all know and love.”
“Thanks Em. And I don’t ramble that much when I’m drunk,” you defend yourself as you notice her take a right where you normally would take a left and she’s driving 5 below the speed limit. After a few more turns you notice she’s driving you the long way home, but you don’t mind. You’ll take all the extra time with Emily Prentiss that you can get.
“Alright, we’re here,” Emily hops out to open the door for you. You turn, your legs dangling out of the car and your face inches from her’s.
“Hey Em, can we talk?” you ask quietly and she furrows her brow.
“Of course. Is everything okay?” her eyes dart across your body, as if looking for an injury you somehow managed to get with her right there the whole time. She’s going into panic mode and you grab her hand to pull her attention back to your words.
“I’m fine it’s just…” you trail off trying to find the words. “Emily, the way we are around each other-”
“I never meant to make you uncomfortable. I’m sorry if I did,” she cuts you off, trying to pull her hand out of yours but you just tighten your grip.
“No, Emily please just listen to me. I’m not uncomfortable with our relationship. Not even close, but this isn’t how friends act. We both know that. If Garcia looked at me the way you do or JJ held you like I do, you can’t tell me it wouldn’t weird you out,” you practically beg her to understand what you're saying but she shakes her head, looking at your hands, but not pulling away this time.
“That’s not what this is. Sure I’m closer with you than I am with them, but this isn’t anything more than friendship,” she sounds like she’s trying to convince herself more than you and you nod.
“You can lie to me and say you don't love me. But I know you do, and I love you too, Em. Nothing has to change if you don’t want it to, or if you want our relationship to be more platonic, I’ll respect that too. But I have to tell you that I am in love with you Emily Prentiss.” Rather than responding Emily crashes her lips into yours. The kiss doesn’t last long, neither of you can hold back your smiles, but as soon as you pull away she says the words you need to hear.
“I love you too, y/n.”
