Sometimes I think about Louise Hobbs for too long and start going a little crazy.
Garret Jacob gets all the attention on the show. Abigail gets it from fandom. The absence of Louise is almost invisible. She’s not there. We don’t think about her.
We don’t think about her, of course, because she’s not in canon in the first place. She has no lines. Her name is not mentioned in dialogue. She only barely appears on camera.
Tumblr media
Here is Louise Hobbs alive and well. Striking about this bit, once I was looking at it: she doesn’t look towards the camera, she doesn’t look towards her family members, and her family doesn’t look towards her. They move around one another and don’t directly interact. Look at it: Abigail and Garret Jacob Hobbs are communicating, here, in a way that she’s entirely cut off from.
(And, ok, listen, I’ve gotta sidebar. Even before Abigail actually picks up the phone, GJH is keeping track of where she goes. There are no clear frames of this tiny interaction, but look:
Tumblr media
he’s keeping tabs on her. The minute she moves, he’s checking over his shoulder to see what she’s up to. By contrast, he doesn’t look at his wife even once.)
(One other thing about this tiny little scene of them playing house. GJH has absolutely no chill. He is tense and intense even before he gets on the phone. It’s not really possible to tell what Abigail is thinking through all of this--we know from later that she’s a pretty good liar--but Garret Jacob Hobbs is not subtle. He’s jumpy as fuck, and he’s probably that way all the time.)
Continuing.
Tumblr media
The next time we see Lousie, she’s being shoved out the front door. Think about that. GJH didn’t kill her immediately. He’s not interested in seeing her dead. He’s using her to buy time in the kitchen with Abigail because he knows he doesn’t have any left.
The way I remembered Louise dying was with a cut to her throat, but look at it. She’s got wounds on her arms, on her torso. He wasn’t careful, or quick. He didn’t hold out his hand to her and ask her to come closer. He attacked her, shoved her out the door, and slammed it behind her.
That is the end of Louise Hobbs.
Tumblr media
Hobbs family dynamics just. Absolutely fascinate me. (Too much.) I so desperately want to know what it was like to be Louise Hobbs. I want to know how much she knew, how much she suspected, and how much she refused to let herself understand. She’s the cannibal the show cares about the least. She’s the one who dies so that someone else can have a little more time.
The show constantly returns to the idea of murder as a way to break or make families. Besides the Hobbs family, there’s the children and foster mother from Oeuf, Gideon killing his wife in backstory, Lawrence Wells who killed his own son, Margot and Mason, and of course Dolarhyde’s obsession with killing families together. Louise Hobbs’s is a murder to break a family. She is, very literally, cast out.
We do see her one last time:
Tumblr media
It’s interesting that, when Abigail sees this, Alana is the one who becomes her mother. Whatever you want to say about the long-term feasibility of the Murder Family, it’s indisputable that Hannibal was never interested in planning a future with Alana. She’s there nearly by accident. Holding a place meant for Will. She is not part of the plan.
If Abigail mourns for Louise, she does it off-screen. We see flashbacks to her interactions with Garret Jacob, but, after this, Louise never returns. We’re left to wonder, or to forget, all on our own.

Plotted starter for @governmentofficial - Abigail Hobbs & Mycroft Holmes
There are events that turn your life upside down in the matter of seconds. Everything you had thought, believed in, knows till that very moment crumbles into ashes before your eyes. The solid ground you’ve always had under your feet suddenly vanishes, leaving you plunged into a free fall. Your whole world collapses on itself in front of you and there’s nothing you can do about it.
That was exactly what Abigail Hobbs had experienced less than a month before, when the FBI had barged into her house, but not before her father had managed to put his hunting knife against her mother’s throat and slit it open. The same knife that had pressed in the skin of the girl’s own neck, as she was used as a human shield, one that should have lasted long enough for her to share Louise Hobbs’s fate.
She didn’t remember much after that. The feeling of the blade cutting through her flesh, the warmth of the blood wetting her rapidly cooling skin. The deafening sounds of gunshots and then a strong, steady pressure around her neck, keeping it from bleeding it as copiously as it had been.
Then just blackness.
She had woken up days later in the ICU of Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, with a tube shove down her throat and machines beeping madly all around her. On the side of her neck, under a heavy bandage, a wound that would have scarred and marked her for the rest of her life.
The next week had been a blur too. She had learnt that both her parents were dead, that her father was a serial killer and that all the money and the properties of her family had been confiscated to pay the victims’ family. She had found herself at 13 years old, orphaned and penniless, with more debts to be settled. The world she had spent her childhood in was gone, just like that, and her future had looked like a dark, bottomless void.
At least until social services had tracked down some distant relatives on her mother’s side, who had accepted not just to pay for her medical expenses, but also to take her in.
A couple of days she had been put on a plane and shipped to England, with nothing but the slightly oversized, old clothes one of the nurses had generously provided her with and a passport.
And that was how Abigail had found herself standing in the hall of a mansion of the size of a small castle, surrounded by paintings that had to cost more than her old family house had. It made her feel intimidate and completely out of place, like a cheap trinket that had ended up in a refine jewelry shop by mistake.
That place was nothing like the home she had grown up in. Her house had used to be simple, decorated with the rugs and deer mounts her father had made out of the animals he hunted. The smooth wood surfaces, the many handmade pillows and pelts had always made it feel warm and welcoming, even despite the dark, disquieting shadows had been cast all over it when, several months before, she had discovered what sort of monster her father was and what other, less conventional materials were used to decorate the building and fill their plates.
The mansion was gave off a completely different vibe. It felt cold and distant with its high, finely chiselled ceilings, its large windows and pieces of furniture that looked like the belonged into a museum. The only bright side was that it was surrounded by a large garden. The thought of being able to immerse in nature even there brought her some comfort.
Blue eyes touched one of the armours before moving on the man who had come to greet her at the door after a limousine had picked her up at the airport. Mycroft Holmes. Her new adoptive father, even if, looking at him, Abigail wondered if he could have truly become a parental figure.
He too, like the mansion, was nothing like what she had known till now. However, in this sense, it was perhaps for the best.
“Do you really live here all by yourself?” She found herself asking, the hint of a frown on her face. “What do you...do with all this space?”
It made her wonder what her new room would have looked like.
“And...what should I call you?” She couldn’t see herself calling him ‘Dad’ nor using his first name. Perhaps ‘father’? Or maybe... “Mister Holmes?”

January 16th 1936 saw the birth of Michael “Chalky” White.
Born in Glasgow, Michael was the son of Victor White, a glovemaker and merchant, and his wife Doris, a property developer and businesswoman, both from eastern European Jewish immigrant families.
White was educated in Switzerland and at the Sorbonne in Paris and after working as a Wall Street runner in New York in the fifties, he took an interest in theatre, spending five years as assistant to Sir Peter Daubeny at the World Theatre in London.
In 1973, White produced the original Theatre Upstairs production of The Rocky Horror Show, and went on to produce the film version The Rocky Horror Picture Show in 1975.
He was executive producer on The Hound Of The Baskervilles in 1978 and also wrote an autobiography called Empty Seats.
His former girlfriend Lyndall Hobbs said in an interview aout him "Michael had an appetite for life that was unmatched in my opinion. A unique man who put on hundreds of shows and truly was a theatrical pioneer."
Michael White was the hidden celebrity of his age, and one of its greatest party-givers, counting Mick Jagger, Kate Moss – who presented him with that Olivier award – Anna Wintour, Yoko Ono and Jack Nicholson among his closest friends
One of his biggest earliest West End successes was with Barry Humphries in Housewife, Superstar! at the Apollo in 1970. And in film he produced the hilarious Monty Python and the Holy Grail and groundbreaking and excellent, The Comic Strip Presents, starting from Channel 4 television’s opening night in 1982. No other producer had as sure a nose for the comedy zeitgeist and no other tuned in like he did. It has been said that  he never produced anything he did not want to see himself.
Hec was a much loved man but prone to the excesses of life, White said he loved everyone and had no enemies, even though he felt he had been treated badly over the Rocky Horror film rights; he signed away his share, he cheerfully admitted, in a druggy haze.
White was declared bankrupt in 2005 – being a compulsive gambler did not help – shortly after suffering the first of several strokes in Los Angeles. He downsized from his Notting Hill mansion to a one-bedroom apartment. The work stopped, but his zest for life in the fast lane continued on crutches and at times a wheelchair.
It's said that there was nothing dull about anything he did. Even his flops were spectacular.
White got married twice: first to the model and designer Sarah Hillsdon in 1965, and then to Louise Moores in 1985. Both marriages ended in divorce, and between them his partner was the film director and producer Lyn all Hobbs.
White was the subject of a documentary 'The Last Impresario', which followed his exuberant life mingling with the A-list in London and featured interviews with famous friends and colleagues. In 2014, he received the Special Award at Britain’s Olivier Awards, honoring his lifetime achievements. By this time he already survived two strokes and was confined to a wheelchair, this didn't stop him enjoying his night,m as seen in the final pic with Nigel Planer and Kate Moss.
Michael Simon White died of heart failure on 7th of March 2016 and was buried at Westwood Memorial Park Westwood, Los Angeles County, California, USA.

Belcher Sibling Fankids Update:
Unfortunately, I still haven't drawn the fankids yet. I wanted to update regardless though. I added a fourth kid for my version of the Zekina family (the right amount of boys/kids is 4, forever am I right?! XD) and I almost completed the info for Louise's adopted kid. So to keep it brief, I'm going to recap the Zekina kids and give the inspiration behind their names while I provide a bit of info about Louise's adopted child. Adult Gene still doesn't have kids and I don't plan to give them any. Tina:
Daniel “Dani” Bob Belcher - 1. Daniel was the name of pilot Tina, so I thought it would be a fitting name for her first kid. 2. I also made it a headcanon that Danielle is Zeke's grandma's name so it could be more special in the lore. I'll have to find another reason if the show kills my headcanon 3. Bob is his middle name after his maternal grandfather for obvious reasons.
Jeffrey “Jeff” Griffin Belcher - 1. Jeffrey is the name of Tina's body pillow. 2. His nickname, Jeff is based on Tina's ex-ghost box boyfriend. 3. His middle name Griffin is based on Tina's favorite Boyz 4 Now band member. 4. The reason for both names is that they both had an indirect influence on leading Zeke and Tina to each other. Jeff for my headcanon "Tina and the Real Ghost" was around when Zeke realized he had a crush on Tina. Meanwhile, Griffin for the time Zeke and Leslie helped Tina and Louise get to the Boyz 4 Now concert.
Lily Cherilyn Belcher - 1. Lily is the name of Bob's late mother who Tina wanted to honor. 2. Lily is also what Louise tricked Linda into thinking they were renaming Tina (it was a horse called "Gelding the Lily" which in general I think the phrase, "gild the lily" fits Tina perfectly). 3. Cherilyn is a mix of Cheryl's and Linda's name that's not too obvious to honor both of them. 4. It's also a reference to the singer, Cher's full first name. However, that only matters because I have a story idea that Zeke tries to recreate the lost Bolognese sauce recipe from Linda's family. The pun name for Zeke's recipe recreation attempt is, "Do You Bolognese in Life After Love".
Brian “Brine” Tad Belcher - 1. Brian is an anagram for brain, stuff zombies eat. 2. Brian also almost sounds like brine which I thought it be cool to make people think of pickles. 3. The nickname "Brine" is also just me subtly roasting Tina for the time she put too much salt in the soup before Bob found out Zeke had a perfect palette. 4. Tad is a reference to the fact that he is the youngest. 5. Tad is also to honor Teddy because I see him and Zeke bonding really well (especially when he helps Zeke get his captain license in my headcanon). Also, Tina loves Teddy too so of course, she approves. 6. Tad is dated slang for "street kid" in the same way urchin is (so it helps me connect it to touch tank in an indirect way) 7. Tad is a variation of Thaddeus which in Dutch, Taco is also a variation of Thaddeus. (don't ask me, language is weird XD. I'm just happy to connect touch tank and tacos in one name). 8. I really wanted to make the initials BTB so it can also reference the abbreviation of the phrase that excites Tina, "bumper-to-bumper". Louise: Robin Susie Belcher-Stieblitz (- Fischoeder) -
Robin is two years older than Lily and the only child of Lousie through adoption. Robin is a variation of Robert which is where the name, Bob comes from. So Louise named the kid after Bob in a subtle way. However, since Robin is also the name of a bird, she sometimes calls Robin her "little chick". Her middle name, Susie which means "lily" is a way to subtly honor Bob's mother without hogging taking attention away from Lily. Susie is also a reference to "Calvin and Hobbes" as a way to foreshadow that Robin is connected to Calvin Fischoeder. Louise finds out from an old letter that Robin is the long lost grandchild (or great-grandchild, I haven't figured out the timeline yet) of Calvin Fischoeder and the woman he was only married to for a week (not sure if I want it to be Shelby Schnabel or an OC I'll have to make later but my lazy butt says Shelby atm) The greedy side of Louise is thrilled with the potential to finally get a taste of the Fischoeder wealth through Robin. However, the good person side of her throws that idea out the window once she realizes that Felix must never know that Robin is related to the late Calvin. She knows how unhinged Felix is and doesn't want to find out whether Felix would love his grand-niece with open arms (or great-grand-niece) or try to murder her on the spot to keep his spot as head of the Fischoeder wealth to himself (Calvin died at some point, not sure exactly when but definitely after Louise became an adult) Robin takes after both Lousie and Calvin in that she is a major troublemaker. Robin is often the ring leader when it comes to the daily chaos the next-generation Belcher family has to deal with.
That's all I got beyond that. I still need to figure out her family tree so I can even have an idea of what I want to do with her skin tone. I probably need to look more into the Fischoeder lore to get an idea about that. I'll love to get some help/suggestions from the Calvin Fishoeder fans on here. if you're reading, please. :3 Anyway, that's about it. Hope I'll actually draw the munchkins one of these days.

Hello. New to your blog and there's a big chance you've already answered this before, but you have such a rich inner world and I appreciate so much of what you put out and share with us that I feel I gotta ask: what books/movies/shows/quotes changed your life in big, profound ways? I cannot not have those in my lists.
omg thank you, this so sweet?? the list below is stuff that really resonated with me specifically, and it almost certainly won't have the same impact on everybody, BUT. you asked so you shall receive :)) in no particular order:
Borgia (2011-2014), created by Tom Fontana
Dead Like Me (2003-2004), created by Bryan Fuller
Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore
Only Ever Yours by Louise O'Neill
Crush by Richard Siken (yes, I know, I’m a walking cliche, but there is a reason Siken is basically worshipped nowadays and that reason is that he’s really fucking good)
A Monster Calls (2016), based off the book of the same name by Patrick Ness
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller (same as the above - popular things are good, actually)
The Lion in Winter (1968), based off the play of the same name by James Goldman
A Softer World webcomic, by Joey Comeau and Emily Horne
The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb
Misfits (2009-2013, but really just the first two seasons)
The Princess Bride (1987) dir. Rob Reiner, based off the book of the same name by William Golding
The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery
The South American Trilogy by Louis de Bernières
Ever After (1998) dir. Andy Tennant
for things like quotes it’s harder to narrow down - i feel myself change a little bit when i read new things practically every day, but if i had to narrow it down to One Quote That Changed Me, it’d probably be 'this may be a sad chapter, but you are not a sad story’, which i can’t even really source, it’s so... unoriginal, i guess, and saying the same thing a lot of other things say in better, more interesting ways - however, when i was mentally the lowest i’ve ever been and didn’t really want to be around anymore, that was the quote that gave me hope it wouldn’t be terrible forever. and it wasn’t <3

Lady for a Day (Frank Capra, 1933) Cast: May Robson, Warren William, Guy Kibbee, Glenda Farrell, Ned Sparks, Walter Connolly, Jean Parker, Nat Pendleton, Barry Norton, Halliwell Hobbes, Hobart Bosworth, Robert Emmett O'Connor. Screenplay: Robert Riskin, based on a story by Damon Runyon. Cinematography: Joseph Walker. Art direction: Stephen Goosson. Film editing: Gene Havlick. Music: Howard Jackson. There's almost enough salt in Robert Riskin's screenplay for Lady for a Day -- much of it supplied by the Damon Runyon story on which it's based -- to offset Frank Capra's characteristic indulgence in sweets. Much of it is provided by such worthy character actors as pickle-faced Ned Sparks, brassy Glenda Farrell, florid Guy Kibbee, and beefy Nat Pendleton, who help us tolerate the saccharine qualities of the tale of mother love. We never find out a lot of the backstory of Apple Annie, the gin-swigging street vendor who must pose as a society dame to fulfill the illusions she has raised in the letters she's written over the years to her daughter, Louise. The girl was raised in a convent in Europe and is now engaged to the son of a Spanish count; she wants to bring her fiancé and prospective father-in-law to New York to meet her mother. Covering up the truth about Annie necessitates a lot of manipulation by the swanky Dave the Dude, one of the denizens of the Runyon underworld. But what is the truth about Annie? Riskin and Capra never tell us who Louise's father was, let alone how Annie managed to send the child abroad and keep her secret all these years. Or, at the end, exactly how Dave the Dude saves the day when all looks lost. But this is for the good: Finessing the backstory turns Lady for a Day into what it has to be in order to be palatable at all: a fairy tale. To my tastes, which usually can't tolerate Capra's sentimental populism, this is one of his best films. Just don't look to it for plausibility.
