Was at a farmers market recently and there was a giant white sighthound of some kind with a woman. He was standing stock-still nervously staring at this eggplant shaped exactly like his head until someone bumped the table, the eggplant moved, and he jumped about a foot in the air. The woman, who I don't think even saw what happened, just patted his head and told him 'everything is ok' without looking up from her tomatoes, and he just looked up at her with the most pathetic and tearful expression before hiding behind her legs from the produce. Like, I've never seen a dog that looked like it was physically holding back tears before, but now I get it. All I could think for the entire rest of the market was "that's Machete". Felt like I saw a celebrity. I get why you characterized him like that, the sighthounds really are just anxiety on stilts with big watery eyes. Just wanted to share.

Eddie is forever grumbling about “losing” his shirts, storming out of their room and flopping dramatically on the couch, declaring his favorite shirt is gone forever, it was there one minute and now it’s just gone. Gone gone gone!

And Steve will sigh and say it can’t be lost, shirts don’t just get up and walk out and Eddie will say this one did! all but harrumphing. So Steve will go in their room, look through the same pile of shirts Eddie looked through a moment ago, and come back out, holding it up, saying “this shirt?”

And Eddie will say it wasn’t there when he looked and they’re all black, it was camouflaged, and take the shirt half-annoyed, half-sheepish and murmur something about how there’s definitely a shirt stealing gremlin living in their walls that takes Eddie’s shirts then puts them back for Steve to find and make Eddie look like an idiot

And Steve will roll his eyes and try not to smile knowing it will happen again and again. And some days he finds it amusing, others annoying, but it’s all part of living together

I looked very hard through the flashback scenes to find the perfect stills for Ineffable Bureaucracy screenshots, looking for the opportunity for a smile from Gabriel specifically. And this is a guy we have seen smiling all the time in season one except for like, a brief peel away from that. Gabriel is so happy and smiley, but that smile means nothing. Those ear to ear smiles and laughs, they all mean nothing. Because they’re not real. That’s why looking through the scenes and seeing him smile at the different things Beelzebub says or does is just great because they are the tiniest, most insignificant seeming smiles that would seem like nothing or maybe even forced from anyone else. It’s like, one of the smallest smiles he’s given, but probably the most significant ones, too. The default happy angel. Angels are good, happy. Smiles all around. Gabriel keeps Heaven going by functioning as machine-like as possible that everything is alright, but he doesn’t even bother with all those BS pleasantries when he meets with Beelzebub. Then there’s those little smiles. One by one. More noticeable one after another. Because now he’s not the Archangel Gabriel. He’s just Gabriel. And he’s actually feeling happy. And I am half asleep and this could have come out so much more coherently and better-worded if I waited to post it until the morning, but I don’t care, because I wanted to share how happy those insignificant smiles of Gabriel’s made me and how they were the start of what eventually became that look of utter affection and joy when he got his memories back and saw Beelzebub again.

stuff i never finished and why

hello and good night . i'm just gonna ramble about stuff so yeah

oh man i really loved this drawing . but it was a PAIN IN THE ASS .

i had a bunch of problems with this one . i spent an embarrassing amount of time doing the line . then after i started painting it on Ibis paint i realized that i should've done the line with a textured brush .

then the background . i really couldn't make it look nice even if i tried . i spent so long just trying stuff and searching for references but i just couldn't get it right . the colors and the lightning kept looking weird .

and just when it was looking decent , oh no the file is corrupted !!! and if i wanted it back i would have to go through a speedpaint of a drawing that took me 28 hours ( i actually tried it 😭😭 but it was taking so long and after some time the app crashed )

so , i decided to just give up . i was already fed up with it . maybe some day i'll try to redraw it or something

edit : oh wait a second . this drawing makes no sense without the background . edgar looks like that because there's supposed to be a puddle under scriabin's swing and he's trying to get edgar wet with it

otgw x chapter 20 / 21

i just said i loved the other one but THIS ONE . this one is SO PRETTY and i was so excited to try some new brushes and overall just finish this . excited enough to start painting edgar without even finishing scriabin's line .

i was using a small tablet my friend let me borrow . it was actually so helpful because i could draw on my phone with it !! i used to work on this when i was at school .

then i started having problems with the background . again

then my friend told me that his mom didn't agree with him giving me the tablet and that he should give it to his sister instead so i had to give it back . great . at that point i didn't feel like finishing it so

this is like a month old maybe ???? i just thought " oh this would be such a fire pfp " and after finishing the sketch i was like " alright i'll finish this tomorrow " ( i never finished it )

mostly didn't finish it because i didn't have any idea to make it look lifeless and tragic . oh well . maybe i'll try it someday i still think it's cool

papa's cheeseria

this one isn't really unfinished . i just wanted to make a doodle sheet but never drew anything else so now he's just there . alone in a blank space . poor guy .

so yeah . everytime i play papa louie's games i always make the workers look like edgar and scriabin . i thought this default outfit looked pretty cool so so i had to draw it

the scully of fight the future who doesn’t want a career in the bureau at all if she can’t do it with him. who debated even telling him that she’s quitting in person, and feels like her loss won’t even make a difference: he doesn’t need her, she only holds him back. the scully who doesn’t even make it to the elevator. the way that as soon as he starts speaking, she goes silent. she can’t even respond. this is not a debate. tears just pour down her face, as he tells her that she owes nothing. that she has made her favorite person, a “whole” person. that she has saved him “a thousand times over.” and she stays completely silent. all she can do is cry, and hold him, and kiss his forehead. how small she must feel sometimes…being dragged from one spot to the next, following along. the way her face just collapses as she moves from holding onto his shoulder to pull him down to her. he breaks her open sometimes.

Do BB!Jay and Poppy ever become friends again? Obviously there's... the Whole Kits Thing but IDK I just like seeing them be friends. I think they should have been friends in canon but god forbid Jayfeather hangs out with anyone except the Three (and Hollyleaf before she dies and then she dies again)

It doesn't happen for years. Poppyfrost wanted to move on SO bad, and she's chronically avoidant of any legitimate problems. If left to her own devices, she would have kept dodging him until the day she died.

I think what changed was Dovewing leaving.

Poppyfrost is one of the last people who talks to her before she Hits Da Bricks, not knowing that she was close to a boiling point. She was FINALLY going to be brave about it and chat with her 'niece' after being distant her whole life so far. And uh... it didn't end well.

Too little too little too late, really. But it killed her, that when she finally mustered up the courage it basically pushed Dovewing over the edge.

But after that, with Dovewing leaving completely and disavowing her garbage family for how they all hurt her or failed to protect her, Jayfeather can't keep doing this shit. Poppyfrost avoiding him and refusing to talk about it

He KNOWS it's just as hard on her as it is on him. And that her breath catches uncomfortably when she looks at him. How long are they going to live like this? Badly pretending that nothing happened while they're both obviously in the middle of a big mess of their mutual making?

I haven't written on it yet but I imagine he cornered her while alone, and ended up actually, legitimately chasing her down. Like,

"Poppyfrost. You're bottling something up again."

"Aaaaaahaha idk what you mean. What. Huh."

"Yes you do, this is getting absolutely ridiculous. I'm blind not stupid, you can't pretend our secret codebreaking lovechild didn't--"

"BYE"

"What do you MEAN BYE IM- HEY!! POPPYFROST!!!!"

Something about the way that EVERY time Poppyfrost turns her head, Jayfeather is there. Once a comfort, then an inescapability, and someday... back to something comfortable.

Never the way it was, but better than it is when she's bolting through the woods trying to pretend her problems don't exist.
