Story of Kunning Palace, E05 (semi-live reaction)
Tumblr media
Of all the ways I thought Ning would handle the proposed slander against her beloved Zhang Zhe, the way she actually handled it did not align with my imaginings in the slightest. Sometimes what plays out is really better than the fiction in your head, hee. I did not see her calling out, not the dumb fiancee but the You-daughter. Nor did I foresee her half-drowning her in a jar full of goldfish.
FIERCE
Judging by the all the clips I have gorged on, this particular love line will be quite strong and trend for a while. Sigh. A decade plus of drama watching has whittled my patience for second lead to first lead love lines to whisper-thin nub but everyone keeps commenting on how amazing Zhang Zhe is so.... I guess the wait and watch won't be too grating.
...
I'm not sure I understand.
Zhang Zhe broke or bent his principles to help her on the oath that she'd become a good person thereafter.
Sometime later, Zhang Zhe is condemned to death for this.
Did he naturally get caught? Or did she deliberately sell him out? Was it more similar to the Yan Lin situation in which her people made moves without her knowledge and when push came to shove, she didn't make the necessary moves to upend the conspiracy for the sake of remaining Empress?
Whatever the case, it's clear Ning did many terrible things - some in ignorance, some in knowledge - to accomplish everything she achieved. I think she squared most, if not all of it with herself when weighing it against the ultimate end result... until Zhang Zhe ended up on the chopping block. I don't think she would have been able to write this sin off and once one stone in her ambitious bedrock was overturned, the rest likely came apart. It's why when she knew she was going to die she wanted her death to mean something, to be a reparation of sort to the only person remaining who might accept it because he thought she was worth something, because he's that good.
...
Oh. Oh. Look at the expression on his face as he listens to the patronizing, sexist drivel:
Tumblr media
My scrumptious proto-feminist
...
LOL, he did a dignified catwalk and every lady in the room forgot to think and breathe!
I understand, ladies, I understand.
Geez, Ning, Xie Wei had them open a window for you, and only you, so you would have fresh air and bright light, to improve your mood and chances! Not to silently accuse you of being a potential cheat!
Wow, this is all up hill climb, my guy. Get your shoes with the best tread on, Xie Wei.
I know not a drop of Chinese and even I can see that's atrocious. And what did she draw in the corner. A flower? A dancing sun? A really fat, disproportionate hand with a vestigial finger?
Tumblr media
And she asks, did she put too much effort into [failing]? Girl. It's so obvious she'd bring out the contrarian impulses of a saint. But maybe it's worth it since we get this face:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Teacher does not approve.
What I am enjoying so much in this scene is the action and counteraction. The way they each boldly challenge the other. She sent up an exam paper so abominable as to be a mockery [of him]; he passes her. She tries to expose her "stupidity" to the rest of the class; he threatens to critique the entire class, turning everyone against her idea.
point:

Counterpoint:

Concession:

Me:
Tumblr media
...
I'm not even touching the "dementia." Rolling my eyes and moving on.
But, but, but... How was he so spot on?! How did he guess at reincarnation?! I mean, yeah, he said he doesn't believe in the supernatural but it can't be a coincidence to the narrative that he's the first to come closest to the truth?
Xie Wei: Ning, what's your relationship with Yan Lin? I NEED TO KNOW... *whispers* for science.
Oh, your father asked me to take good care of you in the palace... Yan Lin asked me to help you... By the by, that study partner list? Yeah, another ministry generates it but ultimately it has to run by me. The moment I saw your name I marked you for the palace. After going to so much trouble, it would be stupid of me to release you from palace duties now!
Xie Wei, be like:
Tumblr media
...
God. I Hate Ning's Mom.

Redesigning Rhaenyra’s Costumes
Let’s be honest, her costumes were not giving what needed to be gave. I’m sure Covid impacted the fabrics that were available and how a thorough a job they are able to do fittings but the end result still wasn’t great. However, I did enjoy the ahistorical nature of it in that, much like GOT, you could not find direct historical inspiration for all the outfits. I tried to keep that in mind when I drew Rhaenerya’s outfits while also trying to keep it similar to her costumes in the show because I’m not redesigning ALL her dresses. I might redesign other dresses in the future, along with Rhaena and Baela.
1.Red Tourney- Great idea, terrible execution. it is so ill fitting with no structure whatsoever and it makes her look so frumpy. Which I know is not the intent because of her flared collar. Honestly, I’m not the biggest fan of the collar because it seems a little too advanced for the time period in the ASOIAF universe and Cersei would have certainly had an Elizabethan collar while queen. However, it is probably the most defining piece of the outfit so I had to include it. I also hope that it comes back in future appearances otherwise it would be such a bizarre design choice. Anyway, for my redesign I structured the collar a bit more, making it resemble a dragon wing. She has a blue-purple broach to represent her mother. The whole tourney is being thrown in her honor but Rhaenyra is really the only one thinking about Aemma. In a similar vein, Rhaenyra’s sleeves resemble armor with blue gems in reference to Aemma’s quote about a woman’s battle ground being the birthing bed.
2.Yellow Dress- This dress is inspired by the Byzantine period and by Rhaenys’s gowns. A lot of people on the show seem to favor wide necklines or off the shoulder dresses so I simply adorned hers with gemstones. Embroidery and sewn gems are also added because her dress was too plain and I think they tried to make up for it with shiny fabric. Plus all the men around her are obsessed with Old Valyria which I visualize as the Byzantine period and Ancient Rome so it makes sense she would incorporate Valyrian styles into her dresses. It is of course modernized with a medieval silhouette as she is expected to set the trends at King’s Landing. Matching the jewels is a simple gold circlet because Rhaenyra needs some casual crowns to wear around the house.
3.The Rose Gold Dress- Again, the idea was there but the execution wasn’t. This is the most medieval inspired of the dresses I redesigned for her. Since this is the scene where her and Alicent make up, she looks probably the softest we’ve seen her with light pink and a fabric belt. The fabric belt is inspired by Byzantine clothing. The bright red gems, tiara, the dragon scale dress and dragons scale lace under her rose gold dress do indicate that their animosity isn’t over but it is tempered for now. They simply miss each other that much. I emphasized the amount of gold she wears to contrast her older self who will wear more silver because it is a variation of black. I know she wears gold to match her dragon but she can’t wear black and gold without looking like a Baratheon I’m afraid.
4.Meeting in a Maternity Gown- I liked the original dress except for the front lacing and the white fabric. I don’t know why they made her wear white so much. I know they needed a pale fabric to show her lactating in this scene (🙄) so I kept it a pale gray since it’s still aligning herself with Team Black. In my redesign she’s wearing pale gray in softer fabric as she is probably seeking something comfortable post giving birth but it’s still regal enough to stand toe to toe with Alicent. She’s also wearing a variation of a French hood because that is what she wore at her coronation and she’s trying to maintain the idea of herself as heir. Instead of a front lace corset detail- which I assume was for breast feeding purposes because why would someone either handmaidens wear something that needed tying in the front?- I gave her a robe and belt. She’s aware of the rumors about her sons so she wears some of Laenor’s house colors to dissuade those rumors. Sort of like, “See how happy we are? I’m wearing his favorite color!” The gray and blue are House Strong colors though so she is showing her love for him as well. But both are so overwhelmed by her house colors, it barely registers. Rightfully so as she is representing herself during the council meeting. I added more dragon emblems because I loved her dress in the teaser trailer for season 2.

Hello and welcome back to Nat 20 Marketing!
After resting well for a week, we are back with our humble campaign toward successful integrated marketing communications. For this week’s topic, I call it the 3 R's – Right Message, Right Time, and Right Place, which we will cover one at a time.
Let’s start with the Right message.
When we promote a good or service, often times we want to make sure our point is well received by our target market. Marketers try very hard to be better than their competitors, at least from the outside. There are many ways to present what a company sells, such as comparing their own product against competitors (often unnamed in commercials); demonstration of the product usage and effects; endorsement from celebrities and influencers, etc. But, in IMC, we don’t really just talk about a product. We want to communicate a concept – the value that the company tries to uphold and provide for their customers. The value in a company’s product usually reflects directly at the mission statement, at what the company believes and promises to deliver.
When we target any segment, we want to understand where these people are coming from. We want to know what they care about and what they are looking for. We are the solutions. We need to send ourselves to them, and let them consider us when they are making the purchase decision. As a consumer myself, I like to see brands that align with what I care for, from my core principles to my hobbies and interests. I like brands that are honest and direct with their sales techniques. I tend to look at brands that are relevant to what I do daily. So, a company that sells gaming chairs should send their message to gamers who play video games when they are sitting at a desk. Mobile gamers may not care as much as console gamers when it comes to the quality of their chairs, since mobile gamers play their games on the go. With the right audience, we need to draft a message that really catches their attention. We need to communicate this message in ways that allow the brand to stand out from the others and memorable enough to last for a while, sometimes even after the marketing campaign is over.
When you read through this blog, I have raised several marketing examples from the past few years. Those commercials and campaigns did not happen recently, but they have left me a deep impression that I am able to bring them up naturally in writing and casual conversations with my peers. This is what marketers should aim for when they compose the message and perhaps the slogan.
Slogans can be a good primary channel to convey an idea. They are often short and catchy, with words that are impactful and to the point. The slogan may not always need to be grammatical, so marketers can be creative with their choice of words.
As free as creative writing can go, there are times when brands may be required to edit their slogans, symbols, or even logos to fit societal expectations. This may go into rebranding but I would consider it is a way to continue a product line without changing the core ingredients of what makes the product THAT product. A fairly recent and well-known case would be the Aunt Jemima brand name change to Pearl Milling Company, where the change was made due to the racist stereotypes present in the old brand name and logo.
Tumblr media
On to choosing the RIGHT time…
A good marketing campaign should be timely and relevant. Marketers should always be on the watch-out for the latest trends and decide whether to join in on the bandwagon or not. Sometimes, marketers need to take the initiative to bring forth new ideas that really wow their target audience. There are so many big and small contributory nuances we must think about when designing a marketing campaign. There are seasons, politics, social issues, and the list goes on. Sensitive messages should be handled with care, and a critical part is choosing the appropriate time to communicate.
For example, during the pandemic, marketers would promote social distancing instead of social gatherings, since it would be inappropriate to encourage gatherings when there was a highly transmissible virus going around the world that was taking away countless of lives. Every year, marketers take the opportunity to promote their products according to festivals that happen around the world, celebrating different cultures, from Lunar New Year to Christmas; from Easter to the Moon Festival.
Lastly, it would be choosing the RIGHT place!
Different generations of people indulge in different types of media. Baby boomers may prefer traditional channels like newspapers, magazines, and television. Gen Z and Gen Alpha would choose the wide variety of social media instead. As marketers, they need to analyze and follow their target audience to where they spend their time. Additionally, some may even have to consider going to public venues such as the Super Bowl and cultural conventions.
Let's wrap up!
To summarize, choosing the right time and place to send the right message out is critical the the success of an IMC campaign. They go hand-in-hand with each other and as marketers who aim for that Nat 20 roll for the marketing check, we ought to put effort into each of these elements when planning and organizing.
We will meet again next week with another Nat 20 Marketing post! See you next time.

To select the ideal kitchen cabinets for your area, let us consider a few things!
What is Your Kitchen Layout?
Considering the kitchen layout and placement of appliances is essential when choosing cabinets. Look at your kitchen shape, doors, and windows location. It helps find the cabinet configuration that maximizes the storage and complements the kitchen’s layout.
Do you have Your Style Preferences?
You can set the tone of your entire kitchen by choosing the correct cabinet set. If you have your style preferences, consider choosing cabinets according to them, like modern, classic, or rustic. Browsing magazines, showroom displays, or online platforms can help you get beautiful ideas about different kitchen cabinet options and their look.
Does Material Matters?
Yes, it matters when selecting the kitchen cabinets!
Cabinet materials impact both the appearance and durability of your kitchen cabinets. Materials like solid wood, plywood, particleboard, and medium-density fiberboard (MDF) have pros and cons. The ideal material for your cabinets should align with your lifestyle and budget.
Explore The Door Styles:
The cabinet door style influences the overall look of your kitchen. You can consider traditional raised panel doors or sleek and modern flat-panel designs to get the one that resonates with your aesthetic preferences. Look for open shelving, glass-fronted cabinets, or a combination to add visual interest to your kitchen.
Think Of Optimizing Storage Solutions:
When you are looking for efficient storage, choose the kitchen cabinets accordingly. Consider your specific storage needs, like pull-out shelves, deep drawers, or built-in organizers for pots and pans. You can customize cabinet interiors to accommodate your lifestyle.
Quality and Professional Construction Is the Key:
Hiring experienced professionals to get well-constructed cabinets is essential for long-term durability. With expert professionals, you can enjoy quality construction. It guarantees that your cabinets will endure regular use and work perfectly for many years.
Choose a Timeless Finish:
Do you adore the newest designs for kitchen cabinets? You can consider the latest trends and stick to a timeless finish to ensure the cabinet’s longevity.
It can be tempting to follow the latest trends, but choosing a timeless finish for your cabinets ensures longevity. thoughts on plastic surgery?
People tend to forget that plastic surgery isn’t just for people who feel like it, but also stuff like face reconstruction after severe accidents, implants after breast cancer, and things like that. In that regard, it’s pretty amazing what can be done with it, actually.
As for "casual“ plastic surgery…the issue is less that it exists, and more whatever drives people to hate their look so much they feel the need to permanently change it, no?
But idk, if someone gets a plastic surgery once and is super happy with it, tbh good for them? Like, people don’t make any drama about stuff like waxing either, and that one’s essentially self-inflicted harm at a weekly basis. Heck, it’s kinda expected to align with general societal standards. So it seems a bit…hypocritical to go "Oh but it’s not natural! Love yourself as you are!“ on one end but have society demand something way more painful that has to be actively kept up for basically a whole life on the other. You‘d think that those who go shame anyone with plastic surgery would logically hate beauty standards too, but (and granted, this is mostly anecdotal) more often than not they then circle around also judging people who don’t adhere to said standards at all either. Seems to be a bit of a "you don’t fit MY standards so screw you“ thing. Idk.
Though maybe the issue some people have is with not being able to change your mind? So it’s (potentially misplaced) concern for the well-being of the person, in that regard, maybe.
But also, if someone‘s treating plastic surgery like they go shopping for the newest clothes, that’s…maybe a bit questionable? Especially since those trends change just as much as clothes. See: how a few years ago those really big lips were a super trendy beauty thing but now aren’t really anymore. Chasing trends just isn’t stood idea in general imo. Also that’s just bound to lead to health issues after a while right? Then again, underlying issues and such.
Idk, it ain’t for me but if the person‘s happy and not compromising their health (or wallet, etc.) in any way, i don’t really see much of a problem with it? Idk. After all, the problem isn’t the surgery, it’s what leads people to take that as the option instead of anything else. (Also, the medical side of plastic surgery. That one’s, again, pretty nifty)

VOCES MAGICAE
I’ve noticed a trend in modern magick that “the words don’t matter, only the intention” and this has never really been something that has sat well with me. If the words in spell craft “don’t matter” then why do we have such a long history of magickal words of power, incantations, prayers, liturgy and charms? The spoken word has always been one of the most potent forms or aspects of my magickal workings.
The last few years of working within Fayerie Traditionalism and the rites within “An Carow Gwyn” and “An Cawdarn Rudh” I’ve come into contact with barbarous names. Also called “voces magicae” these are words that are seemingly meaningless words that are supposedly magickal or powerful in nature. These words were/are usually bastardised words from languages that were not Greek or Latin. Incantations containing barbarous words come to us from The Greek Magical Papyri (Papyri Graecae Magicae or PGM), a collection of spells and rituals and liturgy from Greco-Roman Egypt. The power of these words comes not from any supposed meaning but from their sound of resonance. This can make employing them difficult because the magician must know the proper pronunciation. For this reason I am very thankful to Robin Artisson for giving phonetic spellings of any barbarous names (commonly referred to as “strange words” in the Fayerie Traditionalism material) used in rites and spells.
Other types of magickal words similar to these are ones Robin has given in “The Clovenstone Workings” the words of power given in that book are channeled words taught to him by the fayerie close to him. One such word is the word of the Gateway Ring: NURTANUMO. This word is in itself as spirit as well as an incantation. Speaking it correctly and with the correct ritual actions create a liminal space within which a sorcerer may commune with helpful and “friendly” spirits(I say friendly to mean that the word helps to keep out any spirit that might mean one harm or does not resonate with the purpose of ones magickal working). Along with NURTANUMO and other words of power given in “The Clovenstone Workings” they are accompanied by sigils formed by the letters of the word.
Another form of incantation or words of power that I want to start exploring is charms. I mean by this the spoken charms found in most forms of American folk magic. These re usually rhyming couplets that are believed to contain a power all their own, in some traditions though, one must be born a “charmer” to use them with any effect. Seeing as these come from forms of folk magic, many of these charms call upon the power of God, Jesus, the saints, apostles, or the Holy Trinity. Many pagans within the U.S. are coming into witchcraft and paganism from Christianity and carry with them some level of trauma. This in turn can cause hang ups of one kind or another when employing any types of magick that have any Christian trappings. I personally had these issues early on in my Path. Over time I came to a realisation that helped me (the following is UPG so take it accordingly) Power is Power. I personally believe that charms and and psalms that have a history of magickal use contain their own power that has been generated through belief. Generations of people spoke these words and believed in the power of them and so they have that power. Along that line of thinking is my belief that when I speak a charm it is not just me, but every person before me who spoke it for the same purpose. I am chanting and charming with the Ancestors and they bolster no only my Power but the Power of the charm. You can find collections of charms like this in the braucherei text “The Long Lost Friend”. Another source though not American is the “Carmina Gadelica” a collection of Scottish charms, hymns, prayers and lore. Gemma Gary as also written the “Charmer’s Psalter” a collection of psalms and biblical scripture used in English folk magic. (I do plan on getting my hands on all three of these eventually)
One last note on rhyming charms. I’ve seen a an explanation for rhyming couplets being used in magick as a way to enter into light trances to work magick. You write or find a charm that aligns with your purpose, and chanting it helps to “set your intention’ as you slip into trance. As far as I can tell this is a relatively modern explanation for their Power, it is however no less of an effective method. I have used this technique to help me enter trance, more specifically the level of trance I want when using glossolalia; speaking in tongues (another potent and powerful form of spoken word magick).
Looking back at the idea of belief giving words power. This idea is why I think it is possible to use incantations from media and pop culture in actual spell work. There are cases where a tv show or book will take a pre-existing spell or incantation and reword it slightly to fit the show or scene. In this case the ritual action accompanied by the spoken spell can have great effect. In other cases if you know how the spell operates within the fictional universe, this can signal your own spirit and those spirits you work with what you want to achieve. One personal experience I have with this is using the lost and found spell from Charmed. Anytime I employ this spell I fix an image of the object in my mind, breathe deeply, recite the spell three times, and then set the spell with a sharp clap and a “so mote it be”. In this way I’m not simply reciting the spell and expecting things to appear as happens in the show. I use the incantation in conjunction with real world magickal techniques and have always gotten positive results. Once I do this spell and continue searching I will often find the lost object within an hour, sometimes a day at most.
Regardless of your views on words in magick I think it does our history and Ancestors a disservice to simply dismiss them as an arbitrary or useless aspect of magickal practice.

Something else to keep in mind is the way things compound? Like for instance, I’ve seen a mini trend of fics lately focusing on the issue of Dick dropping out of college or not wanting to go, which for the record, I feel is another way of building up to the idea that he and Bruce have all these fights during this period that are two way streets instead of like....what canon actually was (reminder that in the canon that Dick actually dropped out he and Bruce actually were never really NOT on good terms, like there’s never been a big fight in the comics about this topic so.....incheresting).
But anyway, my point is its worth keeping in mind that how you frame something at one point in a narrative like.....ideally, you want it to mesh up and align with other things you’ve brought up throughout the narrative, and not accidentally contradict yourself narratively.
I mean, this is really the big gripe most Dick Grayson fans have with his fanon characterization overall:
The fact that it just doesn’t make sense.
In Jason-centric fics that are after his resurrection, how often is Jason utterly convinced that Dick can’t even wipe his ass without Bruce’s approval? And yet in Jason-centric fics that are before his death, how often is Jason thinking about how Dick and Bruce are constantly fighting and Bruce can’t seem to do anything without Dick objecting? Reconcile these two things. They make no sense.
Same thing with fics that talk about Dick being the emotional glue of the family, the one keeping a cool head to calm down everyone else when they’re all taking shots at each other.....until randomly he just pops off without warning because he’s just that hot-tempered. These things mesh, how?
Same thing with Dick being frequently referenced as idealized by the hero community......but every time he interacts with someone like Roy or Kori or other Titans he can’t seem to avoid pissing them off and creating epic grudges. Make it make sense.
Or how Dick disliked or didn’t care about Jason to the extent that he only references him as a cautionary tale because of one line in canon......but the whole damn story where he kills the Joker because of Jason doesn’t count.
Or how its not okay to blame Dick for his own rapes but both of his major breakups which are intrinsically linked to the actions of his rapists like....were clearly and objectively all his fault somehow.
Dick Grayson fans aren’t on board with most of fanon because you can’t sell people on a constantly conflicting characterization that makes no sense and has no internal consistency.....you can only cater to people who don’t NEED to be sold on that because they’ve already decided they’re down with hating a character or largely ignoring him.
And I think people have gotten so used to not thinking twice about contradictory takes on Dick Grayson that they unintentionally undermine their own fics by contradicting themselves without even realizing it.
Like its ridiculously common to come across fics that reference Dick being beloved and charming everyone at the society galas they all have to go to.....but these fics take pot shots at Dick’s name, fashion, mannerisms etc all throughout it just because the author likes it or fans expect it or whatever reason.
But actually THINK about it:
Think how snobby the socialites at these galas are characterized as being any time its Jason their noses are turned down at.....and then look at like.....the constant jokes you as the author make YOURSELF at Dick’s very name, fashion and circus origins......how on Earth does it make ANY sense that these same people aren’t doing the same damn thing about Dick? That they’re actually any more fond of him than they are Jason, if no matter how charming he might be in the moment, the second he turns around its just as easy and likely for them to make a joke about his circus background or name as it is for writers and readers? If you can’t resist doing it, you really think snobby one percenters would bother in-universe?
Hell, they’d be more likely to hate him BECAUSE of his name, his fashion, etc.....because think of how often people not so subtly infer that he’s making a bad choice when he refuses to go by a different name, or dress more accordingly to normal fashions, etc.....
Dick has a million ways he could more easily fit in with the society he was brought into and ease his passage through it, but he puts his foot down at practically every opportunity. The idea that everybody is just dazzled by him at these galas makes no sense because the most consistent character choice made by Dick throughout the decades is that he refuses to CONFORM to others’ expectations of what he should be like.
EVERY SINGLE CHOICE he makes from his name to his wardrobe to his costumes to his education to his city to his living arrangements and on and on is in complete and utter DEFIANCE of what people expect of the eldest son or ward of Bruce Wayne, Prince of Gotham, and that’s by Dick’s conscious and consistent choice. He knows damn well how to be more what people want or expect of him, and that’s not what he wants so he says mmmm but also how bout no.
Dick constantly embodies the idea that you can take the boy out of the circus but you can not and will not take the circus out of the boy no matter what environment you place him in or who you surround him with. He will not allow it. He will not play along.
In what universe is that going to endear him to the very people who would most likely view his choice to prioritize the very things they look down upon as something he consciously PREFERS over their projected expectations or assumptions?
Its not.
Personally, I think Gotham high society despises Dick Grayson no matter what they pretend to his face, and he’s perfectly aware of it. And probably gets some kind of trollish glee out of it because fuck them too, anyway.
(And all of that is WITHOUT even taking into account the fact that a good number of the people at these society galas all along were looking at Dick as their future property, given that they were Owl members who knew all along what they intended for their Gray Son. These people simply do not view and treat Dick as an equal. Its impossible. There’s no way).
Or then back to the idea of Bruce and Dick’s fights in his later teenage years being a two way street....
The core problem at the root of all this is the very idea of a two way street implies a certain give and take. A clashing of equals.
And that’s just not the reality in ANY continuity.
Because the question is, in any given fight between Dick and Bruce in ANY canon....
When does Dick ever WIN these fights?
When does Dick get the outcome he wants OVER what Bruce wants? When does Bruce ever cave? When is it NOT Dick leaving the manor without getting what he came for, or even being kicked out? When has Dick ever been able to say no, I’m NOT fired, or no, I’m NOT giving you control over what happens with Robin. Even when he DOES confront Bruce on these matters, Bruce STILL infamously never caves. He never actually apologizes or admits wrongdoing, he still usually tells Dick to leave. Like I said, basically the only time Dick’s ever got the upper hand in an argument was over the college thing and that time it wasn’t even a fight! Bruce didn’t actually care that much! That was the good timeline! LOL.
But there’s never actually a reversal. There’s no real precedent for Bruce caving to a teenage Dick Grayson and saying hey you know what, you’re right here, I’m overstepping or I’m in the wrong or I’m the one who doesn’t know what he’s talking about because our divergent life experiences here have mine as less relevant to the issue in question than yours do?
It doesn’t happen.
And here’s the problem with that:
Dick’s a literal genius. Every member of the Batfam is. Its how they’re able to do what they do. They’re ALL smart as fuck, capable as fuck. Put any of them in any other situation where they’re the only Bat present, and everyone usually defaults to them. They know what to do, they know what call to make, their approach is borne out by the narrative as being the correct approach. Their intelligence and strategy is validated by the narrative, with Dick being no exception here. In fact he’s particularly NOTED within canon narratives for being the guy everyone in the DC universe trusts to lead them.
Now.....imagine being this guy, who while although still a teenager, is in his late teens, and has YEARS of leading his own team under his belt. Years of being responsible for the lives of teammates and civilians. Years of becoming aware of and comfortable with his own natural brilliance. Years of becoming confident in being capable of making the right call when the situation demands it. Years of learning to TRUST in his ability to make the right call, to know the right approach, because not only are people relying on him to make those calls, he needs to be able to trust he can make them in order to have the confidence to follow through and DO so instead of being frozen with indecision or trying to pass the decision off to someone else, which he NEVER does?
With all that....and even with all due respect to Bruce’s own genius and experience....
What are the chances that in all the times that Bruce and Dick clash in his late teenage years....
Dick is NEVER right?
And yet.....when in any of these conflicts.....is he ever validated in that, versus shut down by Bruce who insists his way is still right?
Imagine being an acknowledged genius with years of experience and responsibility under your belt, but NEVER getting to be right in any arguments with your father, even when just based off pure freaking statistics, its frankly impossible for you to be 100% wrong EVERY SINGLE TIME?
Do you see where the two way street thing starts to fall apart? How can it truly be a two way street if part of the reason the two of them so often end UP aggressively opposed to each other during this time period.....is because of how many times previous encounters have only ended ONE way no matter WHAT?
It makes sense for Dick and Bruce not to clash as much during their younger years, because even the most stubborn kids do understand on a fundamental level that they have things to learn from more experienced adults. And Dick has never been someone mindlessly predisposed towards conflict. He didn’t become an exceptional acrobat by the age of eight by butting heads with his parents every time they tried to teach him, he couldn’t have. He KNOWS how to listen, he KNOWS how to acknowledge when someone else is right.
But as he grows older, when he has more and more experience under his belt, more and more confidence in his own insights in large parts thanks to Bruce’s own efforts in buttressing his confidence in his younger years.....what happens when the balance of who is right and who is wrong in their arguments NEVER EVER starts to shift in his direction even a little bit, no matter HOW much more experienced he seems to get....and what happens when communicating this problem, this imbalance, to the person that really matters here, Bruce himself....still inherently requires Bruce accepting blame and acknowledging even just in THIS case, the idea that he’s not always right at this point and Dick has insights that can challenge his?
Of course there’s going to be more and more conflict....but can you truly argue that its a two way street, even just based off THIS? Is the teenage son truly to blame for being frustrated that he’s not allowed to ever be right, because the thing getting in his way is his father never ever being willing to back down or cave or not have the last word?
This is the sort of inherent contradiction I think lies at the heart of a lot of conflicting viewpoints here. It doesn’t matter how much lip service is being paid to the idea that Dick is intelligent, that Dick is respected, if all your content continually bears out the idea that actually no he’s not, because Bruce is always right, Dick never is in the right in arguments or conflicts.
The latter evidence just is not aligning with the former claims, and thus readers are innately forced to make a choice as to which to believe.....and more likely than not, they’re going to err on the side of substantiating whichever stance actually has more narrative support behind it, in any particular story.
See what I’m saying?
You need to make sure your story is ACTUALLY saying what you think you’re saying or you intended to say....or you end up undermining your own intentions.
Anyway. Just throwing that out there.

I've been binge reading fics a lot lately and I find it funny that it is rin who almost always thinks that "an evil makoto is threat to humanity" like it appears in at least 5 separate fics that I've read where rin ponders that the world would be in danger had makoto been a bad person- or something like that- because of his charm alone and his ability to unconsciously make people bend to his requests, and it's good to see where despite makoto's insecurity about how he'll never be good as rin, rin acknowledges makoto's "power" that he is unaware he possesses and his authority that he never puts to practice but is absolute when makoto needs or wants; i mean rin caved in to a smiling makoto in a drama cd and they were just dealing with CATS!!!
Talking about the possibility of an evil Makoto is always interesting because he uses so many of his skills already to make people trust him that purposefully using those for chaos could be messy. We’ve briefly talked about Makoto as a powerhouse and a villain before, and I can agree with the take that he could be manipulative and devastating in the wake of getting what he wants; we’re lucky that most of the time, the things he wants are positive, or he prioritizes peace/people over those other desires. I’ve noticed that trend in a few fics too, where Rin makes note of how scary-good Makoto can be at persuading and convincing others to do things. I think that comes from an important part of Rin and Makoto’s friendship in canon that gets overlooked: he recognizes Makoto as someone with so much potential for individual greatness. His friends and other people around him express gratitude and have faith in him, sure, but a lot of the compliments he gets relate back to how good he is at helping others (being a good brother, a good friend, a good leader, a good teacher, etc.). Besides Haru’s whole “Makoto is Makoto” speech and that phone call with Goro from DttF (need to rewatch it, but the one where he talks about being proud of Makoto), Makoto isn’t specifically recognized as somebody powerful until Rin talks about Makoto needing to consider scouts looking at him in ES. Even after Makoto has started letting go of any hopes of swimming competitively beyond high school and is looking more and more into a dream built around supporting others, Rin steps in to say that Makoto could be a contender in that world, if it was something he wanted.
This might be something to talk about in a separate post, but Makoto’s insecurities and jealousies regarding Rin get interpreted into fics in… somewhat weird ways?? Like I get how it was so vaguely referenced in the show that it became a detail for people to latch onto in Makoto-related ship fics (I see it in older makoharu fics a lot, but I’m sure it’s in soumako or makorin fics as well). It’s a fine interpretation to use in stories, the idea that Makoto is envious of Rin’s importance/position in someone’s life, but I personally don’t see that jealousy in canon as really having to do with Rin specifically. It feels removed from jealousy aimed at a specific individual, and more of this confusing feeling of “I wish I could have that self-assured nature, I wish I could have a clear direction to take, I wish I could have a path that aligned more with what my friends will end up doing… but that’s not in the cards for me right now and I need to make peace with that.” People who’ve taken steps towards majors or career paths that are supportive in nature (teachers, social workers, caretakers, etc) can probably relate to that sort of internal struggle, where it’s not like you don’t want to have a dream that helps people, but the whole “those who can, do; those who can’t, teach” mindset grates at your self-esteem a little more than usual, and you wonder what it’d be like to take on a path that involves a little more personal glory.
Many thoughts, many thoughts. Makoto is a puppet master and it’s fun considering what he can do with such power.

An anti dressed up as a shipper, an idiot, and a terf all walk into the same bar.
It’s the same picture person.
A lesson.
Warning: if the title doesn’t give it away, queerphobic content comes up in this from the other party being documented.
So, some of you may have watched a twitter exercise yesterday.
It started simple: concern trolling white knight “for the writers” comes in to angrily declare fans doing something tagged in support of them about Destiel was “out of line.” She claimed things like “Misha was gaslit into supporting Destiel”, and pulled all kinds of stunts.
She immediately got on a soap box yelling “I HAVE A LIT CRIT DEGREE, I KNOW AUTHOR INTENT” of course implying she knew better than EVERYONE around her how to read text. She then pulled, of all things, @chill-legilimens ‘ article about the network gods gutting the show out of the internet, and somehow misread it SO FUCKING BADLY -- SO FUCKING BADLY -- she thought it aligned with HER. She argued that fans influenced the writers, essentially, and basically pulled the exact opposite of the very clearly delivered message there out. When it was pointed out we know this author and even sometimes help edit their pieces, and she was, flat out misreading it while bragging about how good she is at deciphering text, it turned into a SHITSHOW.
I had watched her give a large group of queer people 2 days of runaround, while they tried to be polite, and similarly tried to prove everything while she proved nothing. Just preached. After 2 days of them exhausting themselves on her, I came in doing my blunt & savage thing, because fuck civility culture when it’s used by oppressors. Of course, she immediately started tone policing, while herself being an arrogant shitbrick the whole way.
She continued to preach author intent and talk down about “headcanons.” You see, she knew the authors very well. Berens’ name was mentioned in passing, and she came back with. “Who’s Berens? Is that the author of the article?” after Deirdre’s name had been directly cited in associated with it about 15 times.
Tumblr media
(credit: @judgehangman )
But it gets better. She started pulling the “authors have said Dean is straight.” line. Now, at this point, we had already sourced her at least four pieces of information (quite formally too: SPN Official DVD Collection Season 8 episode 13 creative commentary, Edlund and Sgriccia; Dissent Magazine The Attack Queers Bob Berens review; the books in the office with screenshots, and more.) So we issued one simple request: Okay. Source.
For the next-- I shit you not-- 10 hours she bricked the thread to death, finding any and EVERY rabbit hole she could try to venture down. For the first hour or two a few of us tried to actually debate her newly raised points, but still gave reminder that we were waiting for her source. Every tweet was an opportunity for her to drop a 15 tweet thread trying to derail onto a new topic, and often clarifying she had no idea about any of it (Edlund, Sgriccia, Berens, Dabb--who she couldn’t spell the name of--and Deirdre all became an amorpheous blob in her retelling that she swore she looked at sources and wasn’t convinced, while she crossed all the data and comments about the sources). She tried to challenge that anyone could know all the writers and episodes just because she proved she couldn’t, even when multiple people expressed it to her extremely rapidly with not just author and director listings, but cross references on when they overlapped and major elements (like the 15.20 shot 19 tree being the Kim Manners memorial tree). She randomly babbled about Kripke once. Lied her way through and claimed those sources were vague. Etc.
But at some point, I decided, we’re not playing this distraction game. You wanted a debate, you claim you have a lit crit degree, and thus know the entire art is Argumentation. A source, if you’re declaring knowing author intent. One source. Any time she dropped a distraction tweet, I replied to her thread with things like a list of our sources vs her lack of any and a reminder. I installed a counter ticker. How many times had she been asked to either recant her point or give a single source?
Someone made a list of the logical fallacies she used in the argument. It was two tweets long and still missed several obvious ones. That didn’t stop her. Neither did the dozens of requests for a source or a recant. Onwards, she marched, derailing time and again. She brought in a buddy to try to distract, but he fell out real quick when he realized “the burden of proof lies on the arguer” shot him and her both in the feet in record time and he ducked out.
Other greatest hits came out like “Dubs (Dabb’s) fanfic books”, and calling the ability to list authors and episodes “headcanons.”
Over time, the dialogue shifted: see, she came in trying the snide “enjoy your headcanons” downtalk, but as time and time again she was pulverized on every point about the show, or the authors, or anything else while STILL never even giving a single source to even her FIRST POINT and running distractions, it became a reality-- she was told, “We’ll enjoy our canon and author intent. You can enjoy your headcanon of... Dabb’s fanfic books and Lord Barons and the writers being collective hallucinations and whatever else in your hot takes about the show content itself” and she FLIPPED SHIT.
As the ticker for sources approached 100, she started becoming flustered. Before that, even, she started repetitively misgendering Ezra (no tumblr to link in), and Ezra screenshot their bio of they/them and asked them to adjust. Ignored. Ezra linked this request and asked it to be addressed again, and again, and again. 13 times. Ezra linked it 13 times. She even replied to several of them. No avail. No change. Not until literally any and every tweet in her vicinity either had “source?” or “address gender?” for her to reply to did she flee there, and write some giant write-around of “oh, I didn’t see this, sorry” but still refused to actually use it. Or “I’ll use the right one now.” No, just completely strickened pronouns from her vocabulary with Ezra moving forward, after not one mistake, not two, not five, but 13 answers.
At this point, I notice a trend: throughout the entire conversation, she had flip flopped on my pronouns, clearly confused as to what to call me. As I generally don’t care (honestly I prefer he but meh), it didn’t ping me as something to react to while she switched religiously between “he” and “she”. But I realized now, despite all of that confusion: she never once thought to use “they.” Also earlier we found tweets of hers that, while now declaring herself bisexual, she used troublesome wording in the past to blur the line on if she was an ally or, as she phrased it “maybe less than 100% straight in the bell curve” in other conversations.
I mutter about this on the side to Ezra and some friends, but continue on towards the 100 ticker that was the goal to show people in this digital terrarium how disingenuous most people you argue with are -- an exhibit for the class. They know they’re lying and have been caught, but will not cede to admit “oops, I guess I was wrong.” but rather stick, unironically, to their own headcanons about things. After all, they vaguely sorta apologized even if suddenly just refusing to use any pronouns at all on Ezra after that. And she’s so quick to disappear into 15 tweet bombs of distraction trying to play victim for being held accountable at this point, we just didn’t jump to a conclusion on that, alarming as it is.
So. You know. Source.
At this point, she RANDOMLY starts evoking the fact that like, How Dare, She Watched Gay Men Die To AIDS, She Is A Great Philanthropist How Dare How Dare.
I’m sorry, did you just evoke the blood of our dead to run away from the most basic scrap of accountability in what is literally the first wave of a lit debate because for the last 10 hours you have refused to take the necessary steps to move on to the next point? Did you... just... evoke the ghosts of gay men that were genocided to, essentially, pull up a smokescreen and run away from being party to queer erasure? Or even just? Giving a source? or admitting you were wrong on one point in a debate? Wow, you really just did that.
Naturally, people involved got pissed. Her Sources ticker hit 100, but at this point, all that haunted her was how completely fucking vile and inappropriate that was in this discussion.
She got blocked. She then tried to glom onto anyone that hadn’t blocked or muted her and run the same argumentation points she had earlier been decimated in the argument with, while yelling “I ship Destiel too! I wanted them to have sex too! Why does this make me the bad guy?” around the block and hoping nobody actually read the thread. She tried to pitch the “headcanons” point of view again, hoping a new audience would lick her boots. She was, largely, ignored; given a few more comments about her leaving the conversation losing all points and only covered in the blood of our dead she was so proud of; blocked by a few more. (unsurprisingly, if you check her actual tweet history, she seems more invested in Megstiel but)
Tumblr media
This is when CommaSameleon -- a professor with two lit degrees and a primary focus in teaching the art of Argumentation -- literally -- stepped in. She initially tried to engage the fact that, well, this woman not only can’t argue out of a paper sack but wasn’t even arguing, she was just running in circles and distracting from all the points and hadn’t addressed a single lit point directly while preaching down at people. But Sam, also, noticed something. This woman kept changing things like “queerphobia” to “homophobia.” Sam mentioned this kinda puts off TERF vibes (I think Sam picked up on the gendering thing herself too.)
Tumblr media
Her response? Which she deleted since? But Discord’s embed helpfully saved?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her inacted non-apologies remain weak, especially in any form of debate be it lit or now queer topics.
Tumblr media
Oh I’m sorry, let’s recap her viewpoints: TERF is a slur. “They” is made up and should be avoided at all costs. The blood of dead gay men are a token to use in a lit debate you’re avoiding responsibility in. After this, “authors are headcanons” is suddenly not your worst take, but fascinating that you 13 times didn’t even read the blatant ass screenshot. And I mean, these weren’t subtle or easy to miss these 13 times.
Tumblr media
100. She had 100 chances, literally, on a timer, to give a source or shut up with her platforming until she had one. Instead, she chose every rabbit hole she could manifest to disappear into, only to be met by another request for a source, and not moving on until we address the first points. We’ve given ours, now you give yours. Instead, you choose this. This is the hill you choose to die on, rather than admitting, “Sorry, I guess I was wrong” or “I guess I heard that somewhere, my bad.” 100 chances. 13 direct QT requests to address gender which she replied to but didn’t reply to until cornered (and still didn’t, truly, reply to), and “TERF is a slur.” Oh, and after waving around the dead men’s blood she also suddenly Can’t Be A Terf Because She Adopted Two Trans Kids. Lord help those children. Or, you know, the more realistic thing is she’s just manifesting all kinds of bullshit at this point to save face, which is probably why she deleted all the related tweets that show she’s a giant-ass TERF.
So anyway, this is very much a lesson on:
Paying attention to how people manipulate conversation to erase genuine discussion and debate.
Paying attention to WHY they do it. Motivation on methods and tactics will clear up a lot.
Figuring out HOW they try to sound woke about shit and when it’s entirely fucking vile and inappropriate to pull
And by all above points, figuring out that these people are among us, and how NOT to let them influence your conversations.
I don’t care if it’s about a discussion on a ship or show or anything else. People do this. A lot. Extremely dedicatedly, if the 100 asks doesn’t make that clear.
Stop letting people railroad your conversations with disingenuous bullshit.
So anyway in honor of this I made everyone a gif
Tumblr media
Use at will. It’s tagged anti-terf if you want to use the search feature on it.
UPDATE:
Just went and checked. She went and deleted literally her entire side of the conversation, hundreds if not thousands of tweets. Luckily, Ezra mentioned repeatedly -- and I do trust them inherently -- that they were saving the entire conversation, so that zip file exists somewhere. How fascinating, after she accused us that we would want to delete tweets. Someone realized they had a bad look and giant failure all around.
Also, a related anon that links to an earlier part of this conversation I didn’t even document where she was crying about “cis erasure” [x] This shit went on so long I legit forgot about that.

TLW characters as clothes I own:
Garraty: ecru corduroy jacket. It's old, faded, the elbows have been flattened by countless wears. I wear it when it's the coldest winter day or when it begins to get slightly chilly, or even in summer when I don't want my arms burnt. It's the most versatile item in my closet and sturdier than a flimsy summer t-shirt, which is aligned with Garraty's position as a POV character where the audience can comfortably situate themselves within him. He doesn't stick out and despite being saved by McVries a few times, I think he was one of the most if not THE most stable character due to his naivety/ignorance to his troubles and constant questioning of why the Hell he's participating in the walk. His 'generic' disposition and tying all the themes of the book together aided his endurance.
McVries: mint blue/light beige plaid shirt. There's a solidified, universally agreed image that McVries wears a plaid shirt and I think this agreement is the epitome of harmony. He would rock this shirt. It's very oversized on me and I like how it gives the impression I am concealing something, which parallels with the mystery that surrounds McVries' past, relationships, identity and family. Garraty wonders about his scar and Pearson is mystified with what the masochistic McVries is attempting to atone himself for. This sort of wonder is easily conveyed through that baggy, well-loved plaid shirt of mine. The shirt was expensive and I worked long hours at work for it, to which I thought of McVries' hours spent at the factory. Again, it's a versatile item that I can throw on and look put together, just like how McVries appears to be well prepared to live but maintains his goal of dying.
Stebbins: lime green hoodie. I would say my corduroy purple pants, but that was a purchase post-read. It's an eye-catching colour but in a simple hoodie format. Hoodies have the reputation of being a 'sloppy' article of clothing and hugely informal, something you see every day. Well, this one is bound to be noticed. The worn nature of Stebbins' clothing (holes in his sweater) and the garish combination of it all (green-blue-purple) simultaneously brings focus to the seemingly in/significant character and his implied poor background. This lime hoodie captures both clues which we are given when introduced to Stebbins. Lowkey enough with the hoodie and the ideas it implies, but noticeable with the colours and his growing presence. It's not a common hoodie color I can wear all the time, which is similar to how Stebbins is the only character with the exception of McVries who admits and commits to their goal (and knows what to expect), out of all the walkers, who are either ignorant or don't want to think about it: the rarity of an 'aware' walker.
Baker: white button down pyjamas. It's another one of those classics. Simple, abundant, can be cheap and expensive, if that shirt was fitted it would be considered formal. Sleeping itself is informal, but the aftermath of death is a 'formal' event. In one you wear white, the other black. Sleeping is also a euphemism for death which Baker's family has a history with and what the walkers crave. The appearance of those pjs is everywhere, just like Baker's physical description is quite comical and juvenile. Clothes come in and out of trends, we grow out of it, but not pjs (I'm sure we've all seen a blonde kid in a red striped shirt before in other media).
Davidson: midi grey/blue plaid dress with frilled neckline. The pretty boy gets the pretty dress. It's my favourite dress which symbolises how currently he's the fandom favourite. The zipper also broke which shows he's dead. That's it for the analysis, folks.
Parker: Levis blue jeans. Classic ol' American brand, the first ever blue jeans. As American you can get, just like Parker is the most Illinoisan Illinoisan that ever Illinois'd in Illinois. It has a worldwide reputation of being very hardy and durable, considering miners and other working men wore it as a part of everyday work wear. This ties in with Parker being described as a big-muscled boy and his angry, strong-willed character portrays a superficial image of him being, well, hardy and durable. But jeans will break down eventually and Levis, with many other classics like Docs, are now being mass produced in countries with cheaper labour e.g China, Bangladesh, there have been reports of it breaking down and tearing a lot faster than its given reputation. The scene of him weeping as he spilled his water bottle are the first tears in his character. Perhaps it is Parker's aggressive nature which he upheld till the end that sets him up for hasty self detonation along the walk.
Pearson: thigh high socks. 60s Pearson likes jahoobies. 21st century Modern Pearson, certified weeaboo and anime con attendee and follows risqué cosplay accounts, would have an affinity for legs. I apologise, I do not remember Pearson. I did not remember that he wore glasses until I saw fanart. Probably watches videos of buff women crushing watermelons between their thighs. I will give Pearson another one when I do a reread but my book is currently in somebody else's hands as I try to promote my TLW Is The Best Book And Is Ridiculously Underrated gospel.
Barkovitch: beige pleated skirt. This style of skirt is trendy and timeless, it has only gotten shorter throughout the decades. It's a skirt that most have worn in their lives and owned in their closet, whether plain or checkered, cotton or polyester. Can be styled as cute or classy. It's a skirt worn by both stereotypical popular, widely loved/hated mean girl tropes in media or the odd outcast, both to do with their popularity among others. Barkovitch's desire is revealed to be accepted by his own peers and attain friends, which were never fulfilled even during the walk where the boys metronomed between camaraderie and wish for the other to die. I think the forever classic pleated skirt depicts that the desire for acceptance and friendship is one that is agreed on holistically, whether we are aware of it or not. Our behavior is not so disparate from our desires, as shown by Barkovitch's antagonistic front which built a barbed wire from achieving his wish.
Olson: Dickies fuschia maxi skirt/Doc boots. The skirt even has a matching belt to accentuate the waist and it flares out. I always get compliments when I wear it, blooming a warm feeling in tune with Olson's initial front to look cool. For some similar reason, the Doc boots to me are synonymous with his gunslinger-esque belt and the cigarettes he smokes. Both Dickies and Docs are utilitarian workwear clothing designed for durability and longevity, especially Docs were designed as an improvement to the boots worn by soldiers in the WWII by a certain German Dr Marten. Yet, it has evolved from its original purpose as workwear to a cool, trendy skater clothing brand (Dickies) or a status of rebellion, grunge and again, cool (Docs); which is perfect for Olson whose extensive death is a consequence of his short-lived rebellion and a far cry from a boy who was once raring to rip.

Jungkook Energy Reading
Jungkook is at a major crossroad of his life. Here, he has a choice to make between 2 roads that will potentially lead him to 2 completely different lives. The choices are to either stay the course that he has been following until now, or to level up to a new, challenging but highly rewarding stage. This is a very fun and interesting topic to discuss so I will take my time with this.
To give you a context, Jungkook is a very highly intuitive person since, like, forever. Ever wondered why (or how) out of... (was it 7?)... so many company offers he chose to be with a small company for a reason that might seem like a whim? Ever wondered why his social media posts gain so much traction? Why he trends so often? If you’ve felt like Jungkook is one of those people who just “gets it” that’s because of his natural intuitive abilities. At the cost of being hated on, I’ll say this: he’s not the best singer in the world. Yet, he makes magic with his voice every time. He is an average dancer. Yet, he commands the stage and holds attention like nobody’s business. That’s because Jungkook has always worked with energy without knowing that he did. That’s why a lot of his achievements seem almost effortless. Yes, he works really hard for everything, but so do a lot of other people. Jungkook has this innate quality of (almost) always making the right choices, being at the right place at the right time that, combined with his ability to work hard, creates these massive outcomes. He’s a super powerful clairsentient and although I’m not sure if he consciously he uses his gifts, subconsciously it has often rewarded him, and so far he hasn’t had to really think about it too much, because it’s a naturally-occurring habit for him. But now he has reached a threshold where he has to contemplate things. Needless to say, it’s outside his comfort zone and is making him VERY stressed. He’s at a juncture where he feels this strong pull towards a direction but is afraid to go there because it’s out of his comfort zone and as is the case with that, he is plagued with doubts, confusion, opposing logics, etc— all of which is keeping him stuck and stagnant like a deer caught in headlights.
What is the problem with staying in his comfort zone, you might ask, I mean it has worked for him so far. Generally speaking, there’s no problem. There is never a problem in this world nor is there any good or bad. It all depends on how we see things. That’s why one person’s curse turns out to be another’s blessing, and one’s trash another’s treasure. The problem here is that, Jungkook has done the unthinkable— he has started to have dreams and desires (lol sorry not sorry I like to be dramatic). For a while (maybe a year or so?) Jungkook has been in this place (mentally and emotionally) where he has been rethinking and reinventing his goals, plans etc for his future. He has lived quite a while with a certain idea of how his life is going to go and worked with that vision. But it was getting tiring and draining in a way he didn’t quite understand why, followed by something impactful that happened in his life— has made him question everything. He has been proverbially studying himself in the mirror and rediscovering his true self. This is literally changing everything about his life. His wants are changing, the things that make him happy (or sad) are changing, and he has been think A LOT about how he wants his life to look like from here on. He’s trying to manifest a life that he thinks will not just give him the usual, practical material comforts of life, but also make him happy and fulfilled from a soul-deep space. And as is the case with manifestations, the first thing you gotta do is make sure your mindset is aligned with what you’re desiring. This is where Jungkook is at right now. He knows what he wants, he is willing to put in the work that it takes, and has also been making plans and taking action... but wait a second. Just when he thought that it is time for him to reap the rewards of his actions, things seem to be going south for him. He is facing problems and obstacles in nearly all areas of his life, and this has him utterly confused because he thinks he has done everything right and yet, why is he not seeing results materialize yet? He’s growing tired of this journey and it’s even more confusing because on the one hand, he still feels like he has hope and that there’s a high possibility that things will go his way, yet on the other hand, what IS happening in reality is quite the opposite. He feels like he’s being pulled in 2 opposite directions and both have equally strong reasons to go towards. This is what is known as “the crossroads”.
The reason he is not seeing results is like I said, manifestations are ALL about the mindset. Point blank period. If you hold a pendulum suspending by the string, and just THINK about moving it without moving your hand at all, it starts moving. This is how pendulum readings work. This is a small yet telling exercise to show how our mindset literally controls all our actions. So without the right mindset, actions mean nothing because those actions are coming from a mindset that is not aligned with what you want to manifest. This is what is happening with Jungkook. He is making his plans and taking action, like he has been trying to have a healthy routine, eat clean, exercise, practice his skills, etc but he is doing all of this from an outdated mindset. It’s like building a house of cards over a slanted surface. No matter how carefully you stack the cards, they come crashing down because the foundation is not right. His plans are great, his efforts are sincere, but are based on a very limited mindset. He thinks, well I’ll do this and this and then I’ll do that and that and then... but something goes wrong, some plans backfire, some work related problems come up, financial setbacks happen, and he is back to square one again. Then he feels unmotivated and goes into depressive episodes and eventually picks himself up and tries again but the whole thing happens again. He is now tired and feels he has no fights left and also feels it’s all useless because the Universe seems to be working against him. But that’s not the case. The Universe is simply telling him that no matter how hard he tries (because that’s kinda Jungkook’s mindset right now: if it didn’t work, try harder and harder next time), nothing will come to fruition if the mindset at the base of it all changes. And the same cycle will continue.
This crossroad is an opportunity for him to level up, not at the action point, but at the mindset point. He has to switch from the “work hard, struggle, chase” mindset to the “attract effortlessly” mindset. Now, this is not something new for Jungkook. Like I said, he is a natural intuitive and has actually attracted most of the things in his life quite effortlessly if you consider the fact that he has achieved more at 23 than most people have in their entire lives. The “struggle” is showing up because it is a crossroad. So no matter how competent, accomplished, or karmically good or bad you consider yourself to be, everyone struggles at some point or the other, when it is time to level up. I mentioned earlier that he is a Clairsentient and his comfort zone is to live his life according to his feelings without giving much thought to them and for a very long time, it’s worked out just fine. But now it is time for him to step into the role of a Claircognizant and to give a voice to his feelings. The Universe has been pushing this role at him for a while now, which has manifested in his life into a lot of overthinking, which is the shadow side of claircognizance. It entails a very active mind so at the beginning stages of honing this skill, you tend to struggle with overthinking and your mind sort of being all over the place. Think of your mind as an out-of-control river which floods everything around, but when you train your mind, and make it follow a course, it becomes life-saving. Because in the raw form, any spiritual gift comes with a lot of sharp ends, Jungkook is resisting this gift. He is stressed from all the overthinking and feels lost and out of control. So he tends to go back to his comfort zone and work from his old mindset and keeps facing obstacles. Now you might think, wow, being a Clairsentient is no joke either, so why bother about being a Claircognizant? Like leave the boy alone jeez. But like I always say, the Universe gives us all free will. There is no forcing him. He has made this choice when he started asking for this new, improved, happier life. This is something he is trying to manifest and to do that, he needs to have the right resources. At this point in his life, even being a Clairsentient (which is still awesome) is a limiting existence for him. Jungkook is an old soul. It might be interesting for you to know that he is the oldest soul in all of BTS and he is an older soul than his parents and brother as well! However, his old soul combined with a young mind and the fact that he is the youngest person in both his family and his BTS family, wreaks havoc within him. He often finds himself in situations where he feels deeply and profoundly but cannot express the depth of his feelings externally. This manifests as a throat chakra blockage even though he has a very strong and developed throat chakra (the reason why he is so expressive when he sings and is very facially expressive when dancing and just generally very expressive when he creates social media content from a fun, good mood space). Like I said, it’s a limit. So far it wasn’t as necessary to address this. But as he ages and his life progresses, he misses this skill set. He thinks it’s about his vocabulary, but it really is just about putting a voice to his inner feelings. He could feel it strongly inside when something is right or wrong, but he can rarely tell you why. He’s a good judge but he’s a terrible lawyer lol. And it’s not even telling or convincing others, it’s about telling yourself— KNOWING what you feel and why. Now, in this whole period of dilemma, he is starting to doubt his old gifts as well. He is starting to doubt his feelings and the ability to tell the right from wrong through his feelings— because that’s what energetic stagnation feels like; it feels like degeneration of everything that is, unless you decide to build something new upon the decaying old.
This jump from Clairsentience to Claircognizance can also be likened to the jump from the 3rd eye chakra to the Crown Chakra. And I don’t mean chakras in the sense that exist and govern various activities in our bodies. I mean it in the sense of the journey of consciousness of the various aspects of our existence, from the Root to the Crown. A renowned spiritual teacher had once said that the journey from the Root to the 3rd Eye Chakra has paths and procedures, but the journey from the 3rd Eye to the Crown Chakra has no path, no process, no formula. It is based on faith and faith alone. It’s a blind jump off the cliff, “knowing” that you are safe. Up until the 3rd Eye, you might be connected, but you are still operating within limits, all of which are of course self-imposed. Jungkook is at this point where he is asked by the Universe to step into his limitlessness. I have discussed in his career reading that he is meant to do some really huge things in his lifetime, which is crazy considering he already has done pretty epic things. The phrase “chosen one” always comes to mind when I talk about Jungkook, but I’d like to clarify this phrase first. We generally tend to see this term as something that sets one apart from others, as if they are special and privileged. But know that the Divine never differentiates. Each and every human has been created exactly the same in terms of capabilities. So it all comes down to free will and personal choice of which path each of us chooses. The thing to know about Jungkook is that he is one of the most sincere people on earth— actually as far as I’ve observed THE most sincere. And before Armys comes for me, yes, all of BTS are sincere. But spiritually speaking, Jungkook is still more sincere not just compared to the rest of the members but the general collective as well. He is, at his core, a very purpose-driven person. He is the least matrix-controlled, for those who know these concepts. He can’t do things just for the sake of it. It’s important for him to have meaning and purpose behind everything he does. Sadly though, he has spent the past few years doing exactly the opposite. He has been stuck in a cycle of activities that don’t bring joy to his soul and this has been sucking the life force out of him and he has been feeling more and more drained and has developed escapist tendencies. But it’s not that he has been externally forced to do these things, at least not always. It’s more so a result of lack of consciousness on his part. He didn’t know he was doing these things. He did what he did believing that he was doing the right thing— earning money, paying bills, securing a materially comfortable life— you know, all of the matrix stuff. But like I said, he does not easily fit into the matrix. While a lot of people spend their entire lifetimes plugged into the matrix, Jungkook is the type to sense discomfort very quickly and want to escape. The reason being, as I said earlier, he is an old soul and has lived many lifetimes developing awareness and his spiritual growth. This is why in this lifetime, he is naturally a lot more evolved than most (or all) of the collective. But since we do not remember our past lives and only carry that “growth” in our DNA, it’s something that is inherent to him without him actually knowing about it— until recently. Jungkook has been undergoing his spiritual awakening, and has been developing consciousness bit by bit— breaking out of the matrix so to speak. It’s this reason that he is “chosen” to do what he is about to do. Not because he has been unfairly selected out of many others, but because he has made this choice for himself and been working sincerely over many lifetimes. For this reason, Jungkook tends to have very pure emotions, and by pure I don’t mean non-sexual (because there’s nothing impure about sexual feelings). By pure I mean raw, unadulterated. He has very heightened sensibilities and feels every emotion to their purest essence, gifting him with high Emotional Intelligence. Unfortunately, this is not always a good thing because uncontrolled, he often tends to overwhelm himself with his mixed bag of feelings and this also causes the aforementioned escapism tendencies. And this is one more reason why he should level up. Regulating and organizing his myriad emotions and giving them a shape, a course will help him channel these gifts into fulfilling his dreams and creating big things in life. There are many things he can do, like journaling, writing down his dreams, goals, plans and procedure on paper, create routines based on his goals, etc but I feel like he is past this stage and is probably stuck in the part where he is doing everything and sometimes he has his wins but these wins are not becoming stable, and he is still getting his tower moments from time to time. This should mean one thing— he has reached the last stage of this journey, which like I said, is the journey to the Crown Chakra— the state of complete faith.
When discussing the concept of complete faith, we often use terms like blind faith, unquestioning faith, etc and while these terms are not exactly wrong per se, they can create misunderstandings. The Divine has blessed us with the ability to think, question and judge, not for nothing. Is it possible to have blind faith? Of course, lots of people do. But it’s also POTENTIALLY harmful to have faith in anything without actually having a knowhow of it. It’s not necessary of course, but for those who reach that level of consciousness, it is not just important, but absolutely essential to know the ins and outs and still have faith. I say it is more difficult to have complete faith with your eyes open than to have blind faith. Claircognizance at its best, is just that. While so far, your gut feeling has served you well and led you this close to the Divine, it is now time to employ your mind to catch up with your gut feeling and make sense of it all. While you learnt to open your eyes to the truth up until now, it is time to learn to keep your eyes open without blinking again and defend and embody the truth with your whole existence. This is literally the riskiest gamble. Like I said, jumping off the cliff. And that’s what Jungkook is being asked to do. So far he has been getting clarity about himself, his life and his path forward and treading cautiously with his small efforts and small wins, it is time for him to take the big leap forward. But the question of course is, how? And to where? While the details of this answer are with Jungkook, it has to start with releasing his limiting mindset. Have you ever noticed that whenever we have limited beliefs about something, either money or love or peace, the underlying belief is always that “I am limited”, “I have limited abilities”, “I have limited resources” etc. Meaning, any limits that we place on our external lives are actually limits that we think WE have. Money exists in this world, but I think I am limited in my potential to earn money. Love exists in this world, but I think I am limited in my potential to find love. You get the point. We actually do not think resources are limited, we think they are limited for us. Sometimes “us” means me as an individual, sometimes it means us as the entire population (cue: global warming, world peace, etc). Jungkook right now, is in the prime position to step out of this limited mindset into his unlimited potential. He has been operating from his limited mindset which is why his plans, no matter how well made, are failing. He has these big, beautiful dreams and has created this beautiful, peaceful life in his mind, but his old mindset is not aligned with this abundant life. The Universe has been nudging him in the direction of the mindset that he needs to adopt to align with his manifestations. I have written earlier somewhere that Jungkook thinks quite poorly of himself as a person and has self worth issues. In reality, he is the most sincere person Mother Earth has right now who has been working so hard for so long to reach this level of consciousness, it is safe to say no one else is as worthy as him to get everything that we wants. But by having these beliefs about himself, he is blocking the rewards that are meant to come to him. It’s like he has paid the price in advance, but is not accepting the delivery. Both because of being BTS’ golden youngest, Korea’s national pride, all the sweeping predictions about his future, and also his inner voice speaking to him, he is almost too aware of the great big things he is supposed to achieve, and although he does want them, a part of him is also scared and wants to run and hide and settle for something far less aka stay put in his comfort zone— all because of his limited mindset where he thinks he is not worthy of such things. And if you think you’re not worthy, obviously you’re going to think that it’s going to be an impossible task, which eventually either makes you take all the wrong actions, or not take action at all. This is why, no matter what his goals and plans, and no matter what actions he thinks of taking, he has to start with his mindset first. In fact, while manifesting, if I can tell you to do just one thing, it is to address the limits in your mindset. We’ve heard this many times and it sounds so simple but it really is the most, if not only, important step that matters. If the mindset is aligned with your goal, all actions will effortlessly flow towards that goal.
I feel like Jungkook has reached a level of self awareness and inner self dialogue where he is able to identify where his thoughts and emotions are going. He has definitely gotten a far better grip on his emotions than when I started this page, and contrary to what he thinks, his growth has been swift. It’s just that, we always expect a linear growth but that doesn’t happen with spirituality. And so every time he has a down time, he feels like he is back to square one. More so because Jungkook has such a perfectionistic and high achiever mentality. The reason why he seems to be going in a loop right now is because he has learnt and achieved everything that he has to with his current “limited” mindset. Hi future goals require him to grow out of that, not because his goals are something huge and difficult to achieve (because literally small and big are subjective both to humans and to the Universe) but because having a limitless mindset simply means to believe that I am worthy of achieving anything and everything I desire— without conditions. This is the mindset that Jungkook needs to work on adopting right now and everything else will smoothly flow from there. He needs to utilize the power of his mind— awareness, reasoning and self dialogue— to identify wherever he limits himself from believing his worthiness to achieve what he wants to have, and continue this practice until this new “I can f***ing have anything that I want” mindset is his default. Does it worry you that Jungkook will become an egotistical prick after that? Don’t worry, his soul has done enough work in the past to be grounded and humble through it all. This mindset is different from the ego-driven power-hungry mindset. Why? Because this power is the Source power. When we settle into our Crown Chakra consciousness aka Divine consciousness, we plug ourselves into the Source’s limitless creative power. The difference between ego-driven power and Source power is that while the former separates the individual from others, Source power recognizes the individual’s power as connected to and drawing from the Cosmos and therefore one we must give back to. It’s this constant cycle of giving and receiving in the Universe that makes Source power limitless, while the ego’s idea of power is one-sided and therefore finite.
Jungkook is kind of stuck in a place where, because he sees himself as limited, he looks to others to guide him, assure him, and provide him with the knowledge and direction that he needs. And that is because he has been disconnected from Source— not literally, but consciousness-wise. So far it wasn’t too bad, but now it is time for him to let go of the need for mediators and plug himself directly to the Source, i.e. work on his Crown Chakra. And as I mentioned earlier, it is as simple as just using your conscious mind to tell yourself, or more accurately, remind yourself, of your worth and your limitlessness. Jungkook feels like he needs someone to guide him, but he has forgotten that he has been prepared for the exact same task that he looks to another to do. Now this has a connection to his Twin Flame journey because his twin is at the same threshold, ready to level up to the same stage. The only slight difference is that she has already made her choice to level up to the new stage of limitless consciousness. And now it is up to Jungkook to make his. Do you what that means? It means a Union is on the horizon! After a long period of back and forth— one of them goes through a stage first then the other follows, and vice versa— they are finally going to be on the same page energetically, if Jungkook makes the choice. This is significant because Jungkook has been thinking that Union was something that was out of his control and he had nothing to do but to sit and wait, but all the while, it was a choice he had to make. Now, of course, this choice is not as simple as saying Yes or No. It’s a choice of consciousness— a consistent way of life that will, over time, upgrade and align their mindsets so they are both at the exact same stage. As twinflames, Jungkook and his DF are like the same person living in 2 different, alternate universes, with completely different lifestyles, work situations and challenges and the way they process these situations and challenges are similar, but not on the same page at the same time. They are soully same, yet because of their mortal forms being born and being raised in different environments, their ego-bodies have retained conditioning that make them different from each other in many ways, but as they shed their ego programming and connect more and more with their soul and with Source, they will be on the exact same page. This is when Union will occur. When they truly become one person in heart and mind. But this stage right now (i.e. before Union) is also the most challenging because this is where Separation truly happens. Physical separation is the least important aspect of the TF separation. This is where they are both on their own. They must individually find their faith aka go back to the Source, because without their connection to the Source, there is no TF connection; it becomes just another earthly connection riddled with alternating bouts of joy and sorrow, peace and pain. Usually in this journey, one twin is a more advanced journeyer than the other, who first “activates” the other i.e. leads them to their consciousness and guides them, usually energetically where when one twin crosses a stage, the other is literally pulled into that stage for them to cross. It’s like only one twin gets to make the choice and the other has no choice but to follow suit. This is also the reason why one twin feels more helpless and out of control. They are literally being yanked around by their twin’s energetic choices lol. But at this juncture, the guide twin has to leave the other twin’s hand, not because they don’t want to hold on, but because they can’t— they have nothing more to offer. This is where both twins get to make their choices individually. This stage is new for both of them and therefore they must individually cross this stage and meet at the other side. This is the period of ultimate spiritual growth, the after effect of which is blissful togetherness. But possible only if both twins make their choice to move forward.
I’ll end this post with a message from Jungkook’s DF:
 Jeongguk,
I hope you’re holding up okay, partner, cuz I know I’m getting my ass kicked. Did you absolutely hate this journey? Because I didn’t. Just like you, I didn’t know what I signed up for either. I made a simple wish and this road has been bumpy but it has also had the most incredible views along the way. The way I have grown over these recent times compared to my whole entire life is crazy! I love who I have become and who I continue to become. And I believe you had a part to play in this. I know you don’t believe that so much. I know you battle with your own doubts, fears and insecurities, just like I battle with mine. You still measure your importance with how much you do for others. But maybe someday I can tell you how much you have done for me simply my existing as who you are. Because who you are will determine what you will always do, not just once or twice. And you have grown so much too! I have sensed that often. But unless we learn to recognize our growth, we don’t see it. But since I had VIP seating lol I got to watch you grow. Sometimes you resisted, sometimes you fought, sometimes you hoped, sometimes you held on to the faith when I was ready to give up, sometimes you were hurtful and challenged me to find within myself new depths of love and understanding. You made me cry, you made me laugh, you made me angry, you made me blush. But you never left. And I didn’t leave either. We tried though. Both of us. And failed. Repeatedly. It’s been frustrating and funny. How we thought we could get away and the Divine kept guiding us back to each other. You know, I think the problem is that we’re both helplessly curious idiots. Always wanting to know more, always wanting to move ahead. Obstacles never had a chance with us. We were always the introspective types, you and I, always looking to solve our problems, hungry for growth. As they say, careful what you wish for.
I am aware of your expectations of me, always was. But I had to hold back. I couldn’t do anything that I wasn’t fully ready to do. Right or wrong, I had to do as I felt guided to do— it’s my sovereign right. I guess because deep down I knew that you would understand. Of all people, you would understand. And I was right, you did. You threw hands and made a mess often lol but you still did understand and patiently stuck around each time. I know it seems like I’ve been running further and further away from you, but I have actually been getting closer to you. Spiritually. I guess soon it’s going to be visible as well. Now there is this stage. It feels like a strange place to be in right now. Good strange. I know you are scared and doubtful and expect me to assure you that everything will be alright. How can I? I am scared and doubtful too. Every day, I am in these juxtaposed energies of faith and doubt, sorting through them like... one moment I am super believing, another moment I’m all nope can’t do.
I know you want me to say that I love you and that I always will, and to promise that if we take this journey, I will be there waiting for you. And I want to. I really REALLY want to make these promises to you. But in the past I have been in situations where these promises were made and then conveniently forgotten later. I’m trying not to let my past control my present or future but I have also learnt that words can be forgotten, but intentions are forever. And that is what I want to say to you: I have the intention. I intend to make this work. When the time is right, I intend to give this my best shot. Tbh, I feel like I have been giving this my best shot for a while now, but maybe we don’t agree on that lol. And I also want to tell you that I’ve never felt about anyone else what I feel about you and I don’t think anyone else can ever take your place in my life. What that means exactly I don’t know yet.
The reason why I tell you neither what to do nor what not to do is because I don’t want to control your life. I know you me to show some ownership on you, and you on me, but believe me, you’ll hate it there. I’ve been there suffocating and it’s the most beautiful feeling to make your own mistakes, learn your own lessons, and watch yourself become your own artwork masterpiece and I don’t want to take away that experience from you. This is not my apathy. This is my gift to you. Also, yes I’m a pretty generous and just generally amazing person lol but do you really think I write pages after pages for just anyone and for no reason? Put two and two together silly.
You doubt your worth so much and since I do that too, I know how that works and won’t hold that against you, but it seems like now you have no choice but to see your worth. You must know, that I’m leaving you alone only because I’m confident you’ll find your own way. I’ll admit, I haven’t always been confident in you. Maybe I will falter again. But don’t you see, that’s the point? I will never be fully confident in you until you are confident in yourself. The more you doubt, the more I doubt too. But I’ve been observing you for a long time now and it’s just so hard to not trust you. Even with all the doubts and apprehensions constantly attacking me from all directions, I keep going back to you. I really hope my gut feeling about you is right or I’ve just made a big booboo lol. The funny thing is, I don’t care as much now. It’s almost like, fine, if anything, this will go down in my history as a wonderful, fun mistake and I don’t think I will ever regret it because in this moment I’m doing what I want to do— either it leads to a reward or a lesson, both are welcome. I have never been THIS vulnerable in my life like I hear myself say these things and I sound so crazy and stupid lol I’m so not my sassy and smartassy self right now.
As I was saying, I really do believe you’ll find your way. I don’t even know what that way is, or what your problems are, but I know you will solve them all. I’ll just be here, solving mine. How do I know for sure we can solve all problems? Because each one of the 7 billion people can. The only reason they don’t is that they don’t have a strong enough reason to push themselves to do that. Do we have a strong enough reason? How much do our dreams mean to us? For me, I have had this picture painted of this perfect life for a while. And yes, it has you in it. Very prominently. In my mind, it’s this beautifully balanced, harmonious, vibrant relationship with a forever after. And I don’t want to ruin that picture for short term hedonism. So I really believe, if our reason is strong enough, if this means that much to us, no obstacle can limit us from getting what we want. You’re not the only one who goes after what he wants and never gives up. I’m somewhat of that breed too. It’s just that this has clearly been a journey and it has brought some wild surprises along the way. I’ve struggled but now I’m learning to accept anything that comes with it. If the road leads me to my destination I don’t care how bumpy it is. It’s literally up to you right now. And I promise, it’s not even that difficult when you let go of resistance. All you have to do is consistently believe that you have limitless power to achieve anything you want and to create your reality the way you want it. I know it’s been a struggle and it feels like just the opposite, but it’s been that way because believe it or not, YOU have had these limiting beliefs about yourself and what you can create. I also know it’s been a long road and you’re tired, but it’s safe to drop the defences now. You might feel like certain situations or certain people are out of your control and how could you ever have things work your way, but it’s all in the mindset. The moment you reset your mindset and stick with it, you will see your reality change. In any situation, do not focus on the external events— they are simply the results of your previous mindset. Rather, ask yourself, what limiting thoughts and beliefs you have in your mindset right now and proceed to change them. I promise to you, people and situations will change to suit your needs, without ever having to deal with anyone. All this WILL happen, so don’t give up until they do. Twinflame, soulmate, karmic, friends, partners, colleagues— everyone will adjust according to your needs when YOU step into your limitlessness. Remember, it’s not just you who are tied to your karmics, they are tied to you too. An attachment exists from both sides. You don’t have to worry over the other person severing the tie, it’s enough if you let go of your end. Ask yourself, what are the common energies I share with my karmic? Identify these energies, heal the underlying trauma and ascend from them. This automatically ends your karmic contract and your karmic is free from you as well, no matter what their status is. The reason your karmics exist is because deep in your mindset you still believe that that’s your place and that’s what you’re worthy of— it’s part of the comfort zone you’re still stuck in.
I wish you well, my favorite human, I really hope I find you at the end of this journey. I want everything that you want. There are so many shared dreams and goals that we have— I will tell you all about my dreams one day. Until then I need to live some of these on my own, go on a little solo adventure, while I let you go on yours. And when it’s over and we’re ready (and no we’re not ready right now no matter how much you try to convince me lol) I promise I will see you again. When and how, I have no idea, but I’m happy to leave that to however the Divine guides us. I promise I’ll never forget you because I literally can’t. Love you!

MUN QUESTIONS.
Q1 :   if  you  could  write  your  character  your  way  in  their  own  movie ,   what  would  it  be  called ,  what  style  would  it  be  filmed  in ,  and  what  would  it  be  about ?       A1 : Recently I decided that if/when I try to write anything serious about Eve again, it’ll center on her being a jewel thief because it presents me more fun, and emotionally diverse, opportunities. That and I have a very specific cover image in my mind. Ideally, her adventures would be a series of books. I have no title in mind, no idea about how ‘it would be filmed’ ( although a style replicating 90s films would be excellent, film grain and all. ) but, I do have a bunch of plots in mind that I really don’t feel like typing out here.
Q2 :   what  would  their  soundtrack / score  sound  like ?         A2 :  Her score would have a vintage sound (or a jazzy Spike Lee sound, if you will) with instrumentals by Dorothy Ashby (a Jazz Harpist) the Ahmad Jamal Trio, Pharaoh Sanders, Yusef Lateef and Tarika Blue. For music with lyrics, the soundtrack would include the likes of Julie London, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, and Dionne Warwick.
Q3 :   why  did  you  start  writing  this  character ?   + Q4 :   what  first  attracted  you  to  this  character ? A3 :  Whenever I make NPCs for my character’s lives I actually can’t just let them just be NPCs. I start thinking about them too much. Developing them too much. And then I’m like, ‘wow! I really like this character!’ Eve was a different character when I began writing her, and likely wouldn’t be considered the same character as she was previously, if I told someone in real life who knows about my writing (like my grandma) about all the changes she has undergone. Originally Delores was a university professor, because I thought it could lead to interesting interactions with college-age muses. And her previous history with the mafia was also something interesting to tap in. But then I started thinking about what was realistic, what wasn’t realistic, what did I feel comfortable/interested writing? What didn’t I feel comfortable/interested in writing?  So as time went on, things would alter about this character. And the new things I came up with attracted me more.
Q5 :   describe  the  biggest  thing  you  dislike  about  your  muse.         A5 :  I have a love/hate relationship with Eve’s quiet demeanor. On one hand, I think quieter characters need love and the ability to be fully dimensional but on the other hand, writing louder characters has always been more fun for me. But really, Eve’s guarded behavior makes writing her stressful in some cases with others because sometimes...if I’m going to be honest...people don’t know how to carry a thread and interact with someone of her demeanor effectively.
Q6 :   what  do  you  have  in  common  with  your  muse ?       A6 : We’re both black, we’re both into art (although our exact interests and aesthetics with art differ)
Q7 :   how  does  your  muse  feel  about  you ?         A7 : Realistically she would think I need to take better care of myself.
Q8 :   what  characters  does  your  muse  have  interesting  interactions with ?   A8 :  We skippin’ this question.
Q9 :   what  gives  you  inspiration  to  write  your  muse ?       A9 : Films such as, “Waiting to Exhale,” “The Kitchen” and “Widows.” Books by Alice Walker, like “The Third Life of Grange Copeland” as well as her short story, “Roselily.” The historical mob figure Stephanie St. Clair.
Q10 :   how  long  did  this  take  you  to  complete ?       A10 : A few hours.

Literature between Political Correctness and Cancel Culture
(Analyzed through Walter Siti, Natalie Wynn and Rick DuFer.)
(buckle up, because if you're gonna read this, it's gonna be long)
«Today is much easier to mistake an author’s personal stances with the content of their works, and then make the author pay for the work’s sins.
Today I look around and I have the sensation that literature is no longer taken seriously: that the way to interpret literature the way I knew it, depth-focused, focused on the power of words to reveal truths otherwise concealed to their own author, is disappearing — substituted by a conception of literature that has to serve a list of good causes.
When some writers of the “neo-effort” (Siti’s neologism) insist on the fact that words are decisive, and that it’d be urgent to change the words in order to change reality, I’m suddenly reminded of those old Marxist authors: they explained that the structure, which is what lays under society, determines what lays upon it, that is words and ideology. Thus, changing the name of something doesn’t change the thing the word stands for at all.
Literature has been considered throughout time the most indicated form to make resurface the part of ourselves — often, the least pleasant — that we’ve exiled in the shadows of our subconscious: a process that often happens without the author’s acknowledgement of it.
The authors of the neo-effort believe they have the duty to spread their ideas to the largest possible number of people and that, in order to do so, they have to simplify as much as they can what they write, sacrificing on the altar of efficiency the style, considered useless. The aim is to do good, namely gain an effect, what does it matter if it’s good or bad literature? Literature used to “take root”, to influence; put at the service of pre-established ideas, and not to venture into the discovery of something we don’t know yet. This way, it gains an ancillary role. And it’s a humiliation of literature — which can truly be useful, instead, only then it hurts.
Sartre’s “Nausea” doesn’t align with his political stances. For Sartre, the effort was the individual reflection of a society in perennial revolution, substantially a school of liberty, whilst for neo-effort the role of literature is to reassure.
Their attitude, their rejection of style, their low consideration of literature, tends to isolate the good writers out there, marginalizing them in a niche that looks like a convention of obsessed aesthetes in the public’s eyes.
I see it in the writing courses I teach: more and more young people whose main interest isn’t to write to learn something about themselves or society, but it’s to write to gain the title of writer and place themselves on the market, detecting the most profitable sector at the moment, which might be fantasy, crime, or effort-centred writing: it doesn’t matter, what matters is for it to be trending and to be reassuring to the reader, in a more and more therapeutic conception of writing.
Literature isn’t immediately therapeutic, this is the difference. When “The Sorrows of Young Werther” was published, copies of this book were burnt, because of the suicides it inspired. Today we read it at school. How much time has passed? I don’t refuse knowledge’s benefit, I refuse that knowledge can benefit instantly, painlessly. When I went to a psychoanalyst to face my neurosis, the psychoanalyst made me suffer for months, and only after I took benefit from it. What would have happened if they had welcomed me with a pat on the back and said “Don’t worry, stop thinking and go help African children”. Probably I would have had an immediate benefit, but all my neurosis would have stayed there, intact.
The Literature I talked to you about is depth-centred, and literature hasn’t always existed: thus it can disappear, sink for many years. Who said that it’ll survive, despite everything?
In Pasolini’s trial he was acquitted because Ungaretti was called to testify. He wrote a letter where he wrote that the formal value of Pasolini’s work turned into literature even those scenes that the prosecution deemed obscene. Law couldn’t do anything but recognize the critical judgement and welcome it. Web’s tribunal, today, would have burned Pasolini at the stake, and Ungaretti with him.» (via Walter Siti’s interview with the Huffingtonpost)
In other words, we can summarize Siti’s view with the sentence «novels aren’t the cure to the world’s evils.» They aren’t, because they don’t have the power to be, and more so they aren’t even supposed to be: writing is a form of art, and art has primarily an end in itself. Literature isn’t a political marketplace, even if it can be used to be — it’s not a crime to turn it into one, but by doing so, one loses Literature’s nature. By doing so, the harm could be mistake literature’s primary aim (that is being a form of art, that is style, that is the pursuit of the truth) with what they turned literature into: a marketplace to defend the author’s ideology.
Siti’s powerful image of the Web’s tribunal, the Web’s court finds an echo in Natalie Wynn video Canceling: in a sense, what Siti calls “neo-effort writers” fall under the same line of thoughts of Cancel Culture perpetrators.
«Like the guillotine, [cancelling] can become a sadistic entertainment spectacle.
Now there's a version of this conversation that's already been had to death, and it goes like this: On the one side are a bunch of male comedians who constantly bitch about how Cancel Culture is out of control, you can't joke about anything anymore without these Millennial jackals trying to get you in trouble.
And the other side is mostly progressive think-piece authors who argue that there's no such thing as cancel culture, it's just that powerful people are finally being held accountable for their actions and they can't fucking handle it, so they go around bitching about cancel culture.
Now unfortunately, neither of those viewpoints is quite as correct as some people might hope.
What Cancel Culture does, [is to] take one story and transform it into a significantly different story.
Presumption of Guilt
There's a traditional understanding of justice according to which, before you condemn or punish a person, you hear the accuser's side of the story and the accused's side of the story. You allow both sides to present evidence and only after everyone involved has had a chance to make their case do you pass judgment and punish the convict.
But cancelling does not abide by the law. Cancelling is a form of vigilante mob justice. And a lot of times, an accusation is proof enough.
Abstraction
Abstraction replaces the specific, concrete details of a claim with a more generic statement.
Essentialism
Essentialism is when we go from criticizing a person's actions to criticizing the person themselves. We're not just saying they did bad things. We’re saying they’re a bad person.
Pseudo-Moralism or Pseudo-Intellectualism
Moralism or intellectualism provide a phony pretext for the call-out. You can pretend you just want an apology; you can pretend you're just a “concerned citizen” who wants the person to improve. You can pretend you're simply offering up criticism, when what you're really doing is attacking a person's career and reputation out of spite, envy, revenge.
No Forgiveness
Cancelers will often dismiss an apology as insincere, no matter how convincingly written or delivered. And of course, an insincere apology is further proof of what a Machiavellian psychopath you really are.
Now sometimes, a good apology will calm things down for a while. But the next time there's a scandal, the original accusation will be raised again as if you never apologized.
The Transitive Property of Cancellation
Cancellation is infectious. If you associate with a cancelled person, the cancellation rubs off. It's like gonorrhoea, except doxycycline won't save you this time sweetie.» (via Natalie Wynn's Canceling video transcript)
Natalie Wynn describes and formalizes the phenomenon of Cancel Culture in those steps:
I only listen to the presumed victim,
I abstract the context to a vague idea,
I equate the action to the actor’s very essence (as if such thing even existed),
I say I’m acting in favour of morals or truth,
I accuse every person the presumed abuser ever came in contact with to be an abuser as well,
and I either reject every form of apology at the moment, or bring up the issue as if no apology was ever made at their first misstep.
Now, in this post I’m not trying to perpetrate any concept of charity, not only because it’s an attitude that takes a lot of work to inherit, but also because the negative aspects that might bring one to be a neo-effort writer or a Cancel Culture perpetrator are part of the very human nature (or, very stupidly, they wouldn’t be humans.)
The self-evidence rises here: those negative parts of human nature can be channelled everywhere, and literature or any other form of art is the healthiest way to do so: you’re not going to get rid of your anger, or your sadness — the best thing you can do is learn to control it and suppress it, but how is it going to work in the long run? It’s going to act past your good judgement, or even cloud your good judgement, clouding it into thinking you’re defending some pseudo-moralism or pseudo-intellectualism, when what you’ll be doing is just venting on someone else.
This is one way to see it: when one forgets what proper thinking is and falls into those quick and gut-feeling “thoughts”. Or one could even take advantage of this Cancel Culture, of this ground of poor thinking to instrumentalize this lack of critical judgement to attack someone else.
On instrumentalization and its dangers, Rick DuFer says:
«Political correctness works when its aim is to protect the weak from abusers, but when it favours every little susceptible sensitivity it turns dangerous.» (via Rick DuFer’s podcast DailyCogito)
Rick DuFer talks about a shared responsibility that happens during offence: shared between the offender and the offended. The problem with offence, as opposed to harm, is that it isn’t quantifiable, so the offender is guilty in regard to their intentions, and the offended is guilty in regard to the instrumentalization they can enact with the situation.
And again we find “instrumentalization”: if one destroys my property, I can quantify the damage, but if one insults me, how can I quantify how offended I truly am? This is when I can twist one person’s words and turn them into an offender, this is when sensitivity becomes a mask and no longer a virtue (or, for the toxic masculinity’s thought, a vice.)
Now, to wrap things up:
These people take the (s)word of this school of thought (which some other dichotomists may, generalizing it, call it “Strong Thought” or “Unique Thought”), perhaps without even knowing there’s an alternative, while there are multiple, actually: as many as the human beings right now populating Earth.
They may do it out of a dualistic and very childish view of society — divided into good and bad people. And if that’s your view of life, you’re not gonna want to be associated with who others deem as bad, following a gut feeling and nothing more. (And I say “gut feeling” to avoid saying “very poor thinking”, because that’s what absolutization, essentialism, and the rest is.)
Your thoughts aren’t really yours, and you become a vessel for something that belongs to someone else, someone who crafted those thoughts in a very different context, or with instrumentalization in mind. You don’t want to risk criticizing those thoughts because you don’t want to be isolated, or because you’re a sane person who deems it important to act rightfully (even if you’re letting others tell you what “right” is.)
And for how problematic moral relativism is, it surely is better than any form of absolutization: better than rejecting your status as “sapiens” and stopping thinking altogether, passively accepting what others taught you to be right and wrong, maybe even out of fear, or a stupid rush for glory and sympathy.
So I wouldn’t call this moral relativism, strictly, but rather moral subjectivism, or context-centred morality. A morality in which people still have a brain to separate a piece of work from an author’s ideology (against essentialism) and to still take into account the context in which an action was performed (against abstraction). A morality in which “good” and “wrong” aren’t seen in black and whites, but rather into lighter and darker greys; a morality which systematic use can slowly dress into the habit of charity towards one another, into kind teaching rather than cruel instrumentalization.
And is it really utopistic, is it really unfeasible, if we’re not falsely annihilating the suffering and the negative parts of the Human Experience?
This whole discourse could be turned into a political marketplace of rights and lefts, of conservatives and progressivists — but my aim here is much smaller (or bigger, if one is a humanist): to make the reader question their critical thinking, and just that.
(We love some self-doubt.)
I believe moral acts aren’t supposed to be a badge to share on one’s vest — to renew your status as “approachable person” (as if saying “don’t worry, you can talk to me, you’re not going to be deemed as bad for it”) or to be praised for. Moral acts are the only acts that raise humans from other species, the acts where the “sapiens” shows its evolution, the acts where our negative aspects aren’t hidden but channelled into arts, without the fear that someone might call us bad for it. (Immoral, even, whilst acting in the most moral way possible, exorcising those negative parts of us in the least harmful way possible.)
So, at the end of this unnecessary rant, my question is: is it better to be a minion in a culture where you have to watch your mouth, as if it wasn’t yours, or to be a person who’s engaged in researching how right and wrong truly manifest?

what if oikawa was actually friends with his fangirls?
i don’t mean all of them, but, like, a select few who are in the same year as he. like, maybe they started out as fans who only really liked oikawa for his athleticism, looks, and academic prowess--shallow things. but then they find out they’re in the same classroom as him. most people think they have a good idea of who oikawa is based on how he acts with his team. that is, they think oikawa is always super chatty and a little bit bratty because that how he often is. and for these girls--let’s say there are three of them and their names are yua, hina, and akari. these three girls go the first two years of high school having this same assumption. then comes third year.
since class 3-6 is a college prep class (at least in my mind it is, based on the trend for other schools), there is probably already some sort of change in attitude, naturally, since you take school seriously. even for the goofballs, if you’re in this course especially, there’s no messing around. yua, hina, and akari are super excited to be in the same class as oikawa--it is, after all, a chance to ogle him. they make note of how studious he is, how quiet he can be, and are even more enamored. they titter about these minute details for the first few weeks. they watch from afar at oikawa’s absentminded fidgeting as he listens to lectures, his neatly organized notebooks, and the curl of his hair in the morning. but they find it curious how oikawa never really seems to talk to other people though. people are always approaching him, especially girls, but oikawa always keeps them at arm’s length. he’s not close to any of his classmates. it’s strange for someone they always thought was so popular.
a couple of months into the semester, yua, hina, and akari are put into a group with oikawa for a work project. he’s nice to them. all smiles and perfect manners, but they notice that he always feels so... distant. it’s something that they noticed in the beginning, but had never really given much thought. now, though, they can see how his smiles never seem to reach his eyes and when they’re chatting between work, oikawa never talks about himself. they remain cordial after the project is over, always saying hi in class, but once the girls see it, they can’t unsee it.
the next volleyball match they attend, they notice how oikawa is truly himself with his team. with iwaizumi. how much he laughs and moves and feels with his friends. this oikawa--who is open and exuberant--and the one they know is discordant and the realization is overwhelming. why hadn’t they noticed before?
the girls understand the necessity--who isn’t different with their friends?--but it bothers them when they’ve claimed to be his fans for so long and know nothing about him. and it’s not like he’s a celebrity. oikawa is someone they could very easily approach. have approached, in fact.
i’m not really sure about the exact details, but the change happens slowly through the school year. it’s asking oikawa for favors, or offering help to him. sharing snacks during breaks. asking him questions about himself. debating about the best way to eat ramen. it comes to a head after oikawa sprains his ankle in practice. it’s obvious how down oikawa is about it, so the girls swoop in to help. it’s unnecessary, really, with iwaizumi and the other third years on the team coming in to check on oikawa throughout the day, but oikawa does notice. it’s different compared to when the other girls fuss over him--it’s more genuine? or, at the very least, they seem to have a different intent motivating them. oikawa isn’t sure, but he’s grateful all the same.
the next week, he offers to buy them ice cream as thanks. it’s the last few weeks of summer, so they all find shade under a large tree and spend the next four hours together. after that, the floodgates open. suddenly, the four of them are chatting before class, in class, after class. oikawa’s going out to see them over the weekends to do stuff together--going to cafés, to the movies, studying together. he tries to teach them volleyball one afternoon and cheers them on every time they make contact with the ball. for him, it’s nice to have friends. people he can talk to. who like him for him. for yua and hina and akari? it’s a revelation.
especially for yua and akari who are only children, they don’t talk to boys much. they’d always watched from afar, puzzled over male behavioral patterns like one watches lions at a zoo. you think they’re cool but you’d never get close to them. and, sure. maybe at the beginning they were a little starstruck by everything that is oikawa. but now they know that oikawa is just... a good friend. he greets them every morning, offers them his supplies and notes, brings them kitschy little trinkets he finds if he thinks the girls will like them. he creates playlists for them to listen to together after hina asks about the songs he’s always humming. he’s always free to talk to akari about the books she’s interested in. he lets yua put thread and needle in his hand, and stand for hours as her mannequin. he talks about his sister and takeru, about teaching at lil tykes in his free time. about all the spanish he’s been learning. his fears about his knee, and of his future.
it’s nice, the girls realize some eight months later, to have such a cool friend. they’re in the airport the day oikawa sets off for argentina, all smiles and laughter and tears. it’s hard to keep in touch when you’re 17,000 kilometers away from each other, when the day and night don’t align, when life gets in the way. but it’s not impossible.
and don’t you worry. yua and hina and akari are dressed up in sky blue jerseys some ten years later, screaming their lungs out at the olympics and so, so proud.
this was so self-indugent :)

The Buyerarchy of Needs Being the design and manufacturing of high volumes of low-quality clothing at a rapid rate of production, fast fashion is a means of bringing inexpensive styles to the public using trend replication. Despite being a recent phenomenon, fast fashions rapid development over a short period of time is extremely concerning from a sustainability point of view, as these cheaply made, trendy pieces result in an overwhelming amount of consumerism, while harmfully impacting the environment, garment workers, and ultimately, the consumer and their wallets. This fast fashion nightmare is being combatted daily, with the likes of boutique owners and designers Chrissy Adams, and Ilah and Tracy challenging its every move by promoting slow fashion, buying second hand, and everything in between.
According to Audrey Stanton, slow fashion is a direct response to fast fashion, and is a “thoughtful, intentional, and holistic” approach to excessive manufacturing, overcomplicated supply chains, and senseless consumption. The term slow fashion was first coined as a means of defining the ideal that having quality-based clothing over time-based clothing is far more advantageous for both the consumer and the environment. Slow fashion encourages slower production, and ultimately invites consumers to invest in quality clothing, as a means of building a minimalist wardrobe that will last a lifetime. Because fast fashion companies launch new collections almost weekly, slow fashion obviously aims to promote the opposite of this. Essentially, slow fashion boasts slower production schedules, small-batch collections, and zero waste designs, as a means of reducing textile waste. Rather than following micro trends and seasons, slow fashion labels utilise enduring styles and create classic, versatile pieces, created in-house or locally, as a means of ensuring that the supply chain process and labour conditions align with global standards. The idea of purchases benefitting not only the individual, but the environment and those who are slaves to the industry, has begun to become more appealing to buyers, as more people are adopting a non-consumerist mentality by maintaining quality over quantity shopping habits.
When considering our global consumption crisis, Canadian illustrator Sarah Lazarovic created the “The Buyerarchy of Needs” as a means of differentiating between what is needed, and what is wanted. At the bottom of Lazarovic’s pyramid, use what you have can be seen. This ideal is undoubtably inspired by the many unused items that are forgotten as new items are invested in, and aims to promote the ideal that you must first assess your current belongings before purchasing new items for the sake of the environment. Following this, Lazarovic suggests that borrowing be the next option when considering whether to buy or not; this ideal promotes personal savings and lack of overconsumption. Lazarovic’s next suggestion, being to swap, is one of the easiest suggestions on the pyramid, as there are numerous means of swapping within a community. Thrifting follows suit as the next best option, as it is the most cost-effective means of purchase, and quite sustainable. Not as sustainable yet just as effective, Make is the next suggestion on the pyramid. While it’s important to remember that making products can involve waste, it can be done sustainably through upcycling. Lastly, Buy can be seen as the last tier on Lazarovic’s Buyerarchy of Needs – by doing this, consumer priorities are shifted away from traditional forms of acquiring products, and are instead encouraged to take a more ethical approach. However, it should go without saying sometimes products do need to be bought brand new.
In addition to supporting slow fashion brands, other sustainable options include the likes of buying second hand, upcycling, hiring, and swapping clothing. According to Chrissy Adams, owner of slow fashion boutique Just Peachy, buying second hand has become “quite the norm, whether it be online or in person, because of how affordable it is”. When discussing other eco-friendly alternatives, Adams also suggested upcycling clothes as “another great alternative to fast fashion, as items already owned can be turned into more ‘on trend’ pieces – this ensure that you are keeping up with the latest trends, however not at a cost”. Adams also recommended hiring and swapping clothes as a new and upcoming means of combatting fast fashion. Hiring clothes, while only becoming popular in recent years, is a great alternative to “spending hundreds of dollars on outfits that will only be worn once and left to sit in the back of a wardrobe for years,” she said. Similar to hiring, swapping clothes with friends or family is a great alternative to fast fashion, as “you can pick and choose what pieces you are wanting, at no cost”. These options, which undoubtably help in reducing fast fashions footprint on the world, are “aiding in combatting fast fashion micro-trends and seasons, while promoting the quality over quantity ideal of slow fashion”.
By handmaking their garments at both a local and international level, Melbourne’s mother daughter duo Ilah and Tracy aim to highlight “the importance of independence and urbanity in a constantly evolving industry” through their slow fashion business Vesper and Co. Vesper and Co, having launched in 2019, have joined in paving the way towards a more ethical approach to fashion; while copying ideas of many fast fashion labels, but creating them in a more sustainable way using long lasting fabrics and patterns, they are providing alternatives for consumers to change their gaze from fast fashion labels, to slow fashion labels, while simultaneously allowing customers to have the same purchase, just in better quality. Ilah believes that “In order to change the way in which we digest fashion, we must first take a step back, and have a look at ourselves – we must question why we support fast fashion, and what it actually does for us.” The morals and ethics in which their label was founded upon centre around the fact that they want to minimise their footprint in the fashion industry. “We hand make our clothes because we want to eradicate big supply chains, and how impersonal fast fashion is – we aim to have minimal impact on the environment, but maximum impact on our buyers,” says Tracy.
While there are still so many gaps to close and lines to blur, fast fashion is an everchanging presence within the fashion world, and one that must be eradicated at all costs. Options like thrifting, hiring, recycling, and slow fashion are all appropriate measures that are being taken by numerous slow fashion labels and eco-fashion warriors, and ones that will hopefully aid in the promotion of a more ethical approach to the industry as a whole.
Pop-culture has Subconsciously Infected Us
When Gossip girl characters Blair Waldorf and Serena Van Der Woodsen find themselves in a ‘dark place’, the one thing they do in order to make themselves feel better is shop. Serena has been dumped by Dan again – what does she do? Shop. Blair didn’t get into the college of her dreams – what does she do? Shop. Serena is fighting with her mother over something trivial – what does she do? Shop. It would seem that some of our most beloved characters infectious urge to shop when the going gets tough has subconsciously rubbed off on young people alike, with people turning to online shopping as a coping mechanism. While at the time this may not seem bad, it comes at a cost, with that being one large one for the environment.
Unfortunately for the environment, I myself have adopted this unhealthy coping mechanism, and now own excess of 150 pieces of clothing that are waiting to see the light of day. My incessant need to shop has been used to cure sadness, joy, and everything in between; nowadays, an excuse to shop and spend my monthly pay isn’t necessary. But why do I feel the need to buy clothes, when I have so many patiently waiting in the back of my wardrobe? Kate Wayenberg of Consumption and Environment estimates that people do not wear at least 50% of the clothing stored in their wardrobes, as they continually buy more and more, despite not needing it.
It comes as no surprise that shopping acts as a coping mechanism. The natural production of dopamine is released when we do something we love, like for example, shopping. The burst of pleasure we get from hitting ‘buy now’ becomes addictive over time, and the more we experience it, the more we crave it, and the more we buy. It’s a vicious cycle that leads to overconsumption and an everchanging fast fashion industry. It comes as no surprise that there is no easy solution when it comes to the fast fashion industry, and combatting our ‘buy now, think later’ mentality. Sure, there are numerous pathways that still let you hit ‘buy’ that are good for the environment, but they often come at a cost that people aren’t willing to pay. Fast fashion is easy, cheap, and accessible – why wouldn’t people use it as a coping mechanism?
My wardrobe is full of clothes that are “special to me” and clothes that “I’ll definitely wear when I lose weight,” even though I know that is not the case. My year 11 formal dress, which hasn’t seen the light of day in the last 4 years, patiently waits while I scramble past it, time and time again. My favourite jumper from when I was 7 years old, which now wouldn’t even fit on one arm, collects dust in the back of my wardrobe, because “I’ll recycle that into something cool,” one day. My wardrobe is full of clothes that remind me of good times and smell of nostalgia, yet they are continually replaced with ones that have been bought in the heat of the moment, and ones that urges me to click ‘add to cart’ time and time again.
Fast fashion doesn’t help my spending problem, nor does it act as an appropriate coping mechanism; the more fast fashion I consume, the worse I feel. So why do I keep subjecting myself to its every beckoning call? Pop culture, sadly, has conditioned my brain to associate every human emotion with shopping, and that is something I will have to come to terms with on my own.
